- 0:26Speaker 1: It is time to believe your worries outside and laugh
- 0:30Speaker 1: with us inside the treehouse. I'm Dan O'Malley along with
- 0:33Speaker 1: Trey Trenholm and Raj Sharma. Do you think concert ticket
- 0:40Speaker 1: prices are too low?
- 0:42Speaker 2: Hm?
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yes, because I'm made of money.
- 0:51Speaker 2: On what planet? Is that a question?
- 0:54Speaker 1: The planet that the CEO of Live Nation lives on.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Mhmm.
- 1:00Speaker 1: You really want to step in it as a really anybody,
- 1:05Speaker 1: if you really want to step in some controversies, step
- 1:08Speaker 1: into some troubled waters, go on record as saying concert
- 1:12Speaker 1: ticket prices are too low, especially if you're the CEO
- 1:17Speaker 1: of the largest ticketing company in the world. Yeah, the
- 1:22Speaker 1: CEO of Live Nation thinks concert tickets are actually underpriced.
- 1:28Speaker 1: God blessed Jesus. Right now, I don't know who's the
- 1:34Speaker 1: dumber CEO, the guy who was hugging his head of
- 1:36Speaker 1: HR at the Coldplay concert or this guy.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yes, is Live Nation? Do they? I know?
- 1:46Speaker 4: They promote and they put on concerts. Do they sell
- 1:49Speaker 4: the tickets to Yes?
- 1:50Speaker 1: Well, Live Nation owns Ticketmaster which does that?
- 1:55Speaker 2: And doesn't iHeart have a piece of Live Nation?
- 1:57Speaker 1: Not anymore they used to. Yeah, Instead, it's a small
- 2:02Speaker 1: media company known as Liberty Media that owns a large
- 2:08Speaker 1: stake of iHeartMedia and a large stake of Live Nation.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But the two companies Live Nation and iHeart are no
- 2:15Speaker 1: longer affiliated. They are separate entities. But Live Nation does
- 2:20Speaker 1: own Ticketmaster, which is if you could do like the
- 2:26Speaker 1: crosshairs thing on a company logo, Ticketmaster is one of
- 2:29Speaker 1: those that it is pretty much a consensus everybody hates
- 2:35Speaker 1: Ticketmaster as a company because ticket prices might be let's
- 2:39Speaker 1: say thirty five bucks for a show, but you're going
- 2:43Speaker 1: to pay seventy five eighty ninety dollars because of all
- 2:46Speaker 1: the additional fees and other nonsense that gets stacked on
- 2:49Speaker 1: top of it.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I think that's why Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Soundgarden back
- 2:54Speaker 3: in the late nineties stopped using Ticketmaster and developed the
- 2:59Speaker 3: new new website.
- 3:02Speaker 5: Or you can go to them directly and buy their tickets.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah. The CEO of Live Nation, his name is Michael Rippino.
- 3:10Speaker 1: He said during a conference last weekend. There's quote a
- 3:15Speaker 1: lot of runway left when it comes to ticket prices,
- 3:18Speaker 1: especially since tickets for sporting events are so much more,
- 3:21Speaker 1: he said, and I quote music has been underappreciated in sports.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I joke. It's like a badge of honor to spend
- 3:30Speaker 1: seventy thousand dollars for a Knick's court side seat. They
- 3:33Speaker 1: beat me up if we charge eight hundred for Beyonce,
- 3:37Speaker 1: he continues. When you read about ticket prices going up,
- 3:40Speaker 1: the average concert price is still seventy two dollars. Try
- 3:44Speaker 1: going to a Laker game for that, and there's eighty
- 3:47Speaker 1: of them. The concert is underpriced and has been for
- 3:51Speaker 1: a long time. That is Live Nation CEO Michael Rippinos
- 3:55Speaker 1: stepping in it up to his knees. Wow, do you
- 4:03Speaker 1: think that's a fair comparison concerts to say an NBA
- 4:07Speaker 1: game as far as ticket prices.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Typically no, because Beyonce these days is playing at and
- 4:13Speaker 4: T where there's you know, eighty five thousand seats or whatever,
- 4:17Speaker 4: and most arenas are eighteen to twenty thousand probably so
- 4:23Speaker 4: smaller market.
- 4:26Speaker 5: But.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Wow, there is.
- 4:32Speaker 1: He is correct that there is a ticket price disparity
- 4:37Speaker 1: when you compare a concert ticket versus a sporting event,
- 4:41Speaker 1: because like an NBA game, do you have eighty two
- 4:43Speaker 1: games in a season, right, whereas you you may only
- 4:48Speaker 1: have one concert in that city in the calendar year.
- 4:50Speaker 5: Right.
- 4:51Speaker 1: So he's seeing it from a scarcity standpoint. So if
- 4:57Speaker 1: that was the case, I would love to see how
- 5:00Speaker 1: many tickets Live Nation slash ticket Master could sell for
- 5:06Speaker 1: a Beyonce concert eight hundred dollars times eighty two. Let's
- 5:11Speaker 1: see how many tickets you sell if you really think
- 5:14Speaker 1: that the tickets, that the ticket prices should be closer
- 5:17Speaker 1: in line with sporting events, because that's in essence what
- 5:21Speaker 1: he's saying. He's not now he wouldn't. I hope he
- 5:23Speaker 1: wouldn't actually do the math and say, okay, concert ticket
- 5:27Speaker 1: prices eight hundred times eighty two, that's the new price.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I hope he wouldn't go that far. But what he's
- 5:32Speaker 1: saying is they're going to raise prices.
- 5:38Speaker 3: You know, and they're going to lose out to streaming services.
- 5:41Speaker 3: That's what's happening. So now you can get these concerts,
- 5:44Speaker 3: you can get your sporting events, whatever it is you
- 5:47Speaker 3: need through streaming. You can just watch it from your home,
- 5:50Speaker 3: and that's I think what most people are starting to do,
- 5:53Speaker 3: especially when you have you know, when you're in a
- 5:55Speaker 3: city where your team sucks, I don't think you're going
- 5:58Speaker 3: to go to the game as often as you would
- 6:04Speaker 3: have back in the day, Like, I remember going to
- 6:05Speaker 3: Cowboys games when I was a kid, and you know,
- 6:08Speaker 3: my parents immigrant, you know, working class people, just it
- 6:13Speaker 3: wasn't that expensive.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Yeah, and most of the streaming services you're talking about
- 6:19Speaker 4: are illegal, yes, I mean.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I mean.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yeah, he wasn't trying to hide that apparent. No, I
- 6:29Speaker 1: thought it was clear.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll just watch it there, I have them in
- 6:36Speaker 3: my history.
- 6:39Speaker 1: But yeah, at the end of at the end of
- 6:41Speaker 1: the day, what what the Live Nation CEO is saying
- 6:44Speaker 1: is there is room to raise prices here and I
- 6:47Speaker 1: think people are going to pay it not and and
- 6:51Speaker 1: it's just a matter of how much they can, how
- 6:53Speaker 1: far they can take it before it becomes uh not
- 6:57Speaker 1: a good idea.
- 6:59Speaker 4: I don't he's wrong in what he said, but I
- 7:04Speaker 4: don't I think he's right about that that they can
- 7:07Speaker 4: raise prices and people will still pay it.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I mean, you look at the.
- 7:10Speaker 4: How concerts sell out and at the just stupid prices
- 7:14Speaker 4: from I mean Kendrick Lamar tickets back. Yeah, and he
- 7:19Speaker 4: played at and T and they were I think average
- 7:22Speaker 4: was like seven hundred dollars. I mean, if the artist
- 7:26Speaker 4: is big enough, people will pay whatever. I mean, Taylor
- 7:29Speaker 4: Swift is obviously the ultimate example of that one.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yeah, And what was interesting also about the Taylor Swift
- 7:34Speaker 1: situation was with that eras tour was ticket prices. And
- 7:38Speaker 1: we're talking in essence. The additional layer of this is
- 7:42Speaker 1: the secondary market because so many of the ticket companies,
- 7:45Speaker 1: the smaller ticket company, the ticket purchasing companies, will be
- 7:48Speaker 1: the ones using bots and things to buy tickets when
- 7:52Speaker 1: they immediately when they go on sale, and then they're
- 7:56Speaker 1: selling them on the secondary market at an amazing markup.
- 7:59Speaker 1: And that's where he is right that people will pay
- 8:01Speaker 1: for that. Like you said, try with the Kinder Klamar tickets, Uh,
- 8:05Speaker 1: there are ways around it. Like with the Taylor Swift thing,
- 8:08Speaker 1: tickets at some of her shows in America were so expensive.
- 8:12Speaker 1: People were doing concert tourism the way they do medical
- 8:15Speaker 1: tourism that Raj speaks so fondly of. It was cheaper
- 8:20Speaker 1: to buy a ticket to go see Taylor Swift in Europe.
- 8:25Speaker 1: The ticket, the AirPair, the ticket, the airfare, and the
- 8:29Speaker 1: accommodations were cheaper than the ticket in America. So yeah,
- 8:37Speaker 1: some people going to Europe. You had some people going
- 8:39Speaker 1: to South America to go see the show because it
- 8:42Speaker 1: was cheaper than it was in the States.
- 8:46Speaker 3: There was a you don't remember when the ticketmaster had
- 8:49Speaker 3: that glitch with the Taylor Swift tickets.
- 8:53Speaker 5: Were the shut down the website.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Yeah it craft.
- 8:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:58Speaker 3: So there was a guy in Chicago who was buying
- 9:01Speaker 3: like every year, him and his buddies do like a
- 9:03Speaker 3: guy thing. He's the older guy and he was buying tickets.
- 9:06Speaker 3: I can't remember if it was like Lennard Skinner or
- 9:10Speaker 3: somebody he was, or the Eagles, I can't remember who was.
- 9:13Speaker 3: But he was trying to buy tickets for him and
- 9:14Speaker 3: eight of his buddies to go watch this with seventy
- 9:17Speaker 3: five eighty bucks pop. And he hit the purchase button.
- 9:21Speaker 3: The glitch happened and it all turned into Taylor Swift
- 9:24Speaker 3: tickets at that price and they.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Were front row.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Oh.
- 9:29Speaker 5: He gave two to his daughters and then sold the
- 9:33Speaker 5: rest of them for ten thousand apiece.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Had a boy.
- 9:40Speaker 1: See it's amazing. I'll congratulate an individual on being enterprising,
- 9:45Speaker 1: but I don't want the CEO of Live Nation doing it.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not buying. I'm not spending that amount
- 9:51Speaker 1: of money on a concert no matter who's selling it.
- 9:55Speaker 1: But if an individual can get that bag, go for it.
- 9:58Speaker 1: But as the head of a company who controls the
- 10:02Speaker 1: vast majority of the concerts in the country, that bothers
- 10:08Speaker 1: me a little bit.
- 10:10Speaker 3: I'm not that big of a fan of anybody that
- 10:12Speaker 3: I would pay that much money to see.
- 10:15Speaker 5: And I'm a huge music guy.
- 10:16Speaker 3: I love live events, I love going the whole the
- 10:20Speaker 3: whole thing that comes with it, like hanging out with
- 10:21Speaker 3: your friends, going out doing the whole thing. But I'm
- 10:24Speaker 3: not a fan of anybody enough to pay eight hundred
- 10:28Speaker 3: dollars for a ticket.
- 10:30Speaker 2: You'd have to resurrect prints for me to do that.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought you were going to say Jesus, And
- 10:35Speaker 1: even then, I'm gonna be a little skeptical.
- 10:38Speaker 4: He's really a one act play.
- 10:44Speaker 1: There's another reboot. I've seen this.
- 10:48Speaker 5: He just turns water into wine and disappears like I'm out.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Willem de Vaux, Jim CAVISO, they did it better, all right.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So the Live Nation CEO stuck his foot and I'm
- 11:01Speaker 1: curious to see how that shakes out for the rest
- 11:05Speaker 1: of our adventure. Here today inside the Treehouse on our
- 11:08Speaker 1: YouTube exclusive show, let's play a quick game of if
- 11:13Speaker 1: you laugh, You're Dead. All right, So here we go, Raj.
- 11:17Speaker 1: This headline is especially for you because I want to
- 11:20Speaker 1: see your reaction as I read this headline. A man
- 11:25Speaker 1: was accused of crashing his car and hurling kids over
- 11:29Speaker 1: a fence.
- 11:34Speaker 5: Were they in the car?
- 11:36Speaker 3: I don't know, or those two separate events that he did.
- 11:39Speaker 3: He croutched this car and there were kids watching, so
- 11:42Speaker 3: he just threw him over a fence.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I don't know. I couldn't get past the headline because
- 11:47Speaker 1: I was dead as soon as I saw the headliner, Like,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I'm out on this one. I don't know what it is.
- 11:51Speaker 1: I don't know if it's the verbiage or what A
- 11:55Speaker 1: man was accused of crashing his car and hurling kids
- 11:58Speaker 1: over a fence.
- 12:00Speaker 2: All you can.
- 12:00Speaker 1: See is like when Uncle Phil would tosh jazzy jazz
- 12:05Speaker 1: at the front door of the bel Air minch. But
- 12:08Speaker 1: in this case, it just be one after another.
- 12:10Speaker 2: What are you doing?
- 12:11Speaker 1: I'm hurtling kids over this.
- 12:12Speaker 5: Fence with a car just smoking behind him? Yeah, and
- 12:19Speaker 5: I don't.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I know nothing about the story. All I know
- 12:22Speaker 1: is what I've told you in the headline.
- 12:23Speaker 3: All right, So that's how my brain works, as like
- 12:26Speaker 3: there's just kids standing around like playing.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Out in the street, which why gen Z would do that.
- 12:31Speaker 5: They're scared of the outside. Uh.
- 12:34Speaker 3: And he crashed his car and he's so angry just
- 12:36Speaker 3: hees kids just starts throwing them over a fence.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like, I mean, crashes his car, throws kids
- 12:43Speaker 4: and he's like the aristocrats.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Well, good job, very nice, no surprise. This was a
- 12:58Speaker 1: This is a man in Florida was Larry. He was
- 13:01Speaker 1: spotted speeding last Saturday afternoon. When a deputy tried to
- 13:05Speaker 1: stop him. He spun his car in a full circle
- 13:08Speaker 1: around the squad car and sped off a little fast
- 13:11Speaker 1: in the furious maneuver the police. Tampa drift, Yeah, little
- 13:15Speaker 1: Tampa drift. The police opted not to pursue him for
- 13:19Speaker 1: safety reasons, but maybe they should have because later on
- 13:23Speaker 1: Larry crashed with three kids inside and then escaped with
- 13:29Speaker 1: them by hurling by hurling them over a six foot fence.
- 13:35Speaker 3: So my question is how strong is Larry.
- 13:41Speaker 1: And how small were these kids? I mean, I kind
- 13:45Speaker 1: of feel like once Larry gets out of prison, he
- 13:47Speaker 1: has a future in the strongman competitions.
- 13:50Speaker 5: I think somebody's not getting a best Dad mug.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Ever, Well, let's think about it, because in the World
- 13:56Speaker 1: Strongman competitions, those boulders are solid. They don't wiggle. Children
- 14:01Speaker 1: wiggle when you try to throw them over six foot fence.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, but well, if they're concussed from an accident, maybe not.
- 14:09Speaker 1: That that is true. Maybe they were unconscious, they.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Were gonna They're gonna be concussed either way, from the
- 14:16Speaker 3: accident or the landing.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I'xed up in the twenty twenty six World Strongman Competition
- 14:23Speaker 1: Floria Bjornson will hurl unconscious children toddler throwing a Yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 4: I'm just shocked at Florida. There's a place in Florida
- 14:36Speaker 4: that has a no chase policy.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I'm also surprising, Yeah, that that seems like a Florida
- 14:46Speaker 1: standard thing. They just chase everybody, Like, are you a
- 14:48Speaker 1: jay walker? They're gonna chase you down on a car probably,
- 14:52Speaker 1: uh So. Anyway, Larry later crashed with three kids inside,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and then escaped with the kids by hurling them over
- 14:59Speaker 1: a six foot fence and then jumping over it himself
- 15:02Speaker 1: in a true testament of endurance and strength. He was
- 15:06Speaker 1: caught soon after that, probably because he was so tired
- 15:09Speaker 1: from throwing children over his six foot fence and then
- 15:12Speaker 1: hoppying it himself. All three kids were taken to the hospital,
- 15:16Speaker 1: checked out, and released late. Larry was later booked on
- 15:19Speaker 1: three counts of child neglect, and officials say more charges
- 15:23Speaker 1: could be filed.
- 15:24Speaker 3: You think the kids outran him, That's when you're getting old.
- 15:33Speaker 5: They didn't catch any of the kids. They caught Larry.
- 15:36Speaker 5: Kids made it home.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and that really is all the information we have
- 15:42Speaker 1: on the story. Don't know who the kids were, don't
- 15:43Speaker 1: know if any of them were his, if all of
- 15:46Speaker 1: them were his. Since there's no mention immediately in the
- 15:49Speaker 1: story about kidnapping charges, I guess they were there either
- 15:52Speaker 1: on their own volition they were his or Candy in
- 15:59Speaker 1: the van man maybe he's the babysitter.
- 16:02Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 16:04Speaker 5: You have solid candy game getting the man.
- 16:09Speaker 2: He was doing to make a wish.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Except it was his. You know what I've always wanted
- 16:17Speaker 1: to do her old kids over fences and John Cena
- 16:21Speaker 1: and the Rock showed up and said We're going to
- 16:23Speaker 1: make this happen.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Go get them, Larry, You sure, no, Actually go get them.
- 16:29Speaker 5: There's kids.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Get them.
- 16:31Speaker 1: They're not paying attention, they're looking at their phones.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Yeah, you see one of the kids. Just what's going
- 16:38Speaker 3: through your head? It was like we were in the car,
- 16:41Speaker 3: everything was fine. Now I'm flying over a fence.
- 16:46Speaker 1: It really is an important lesson for children to learn.
- 16:48Speaker 1: You need to keep your head on a swivel. You
- 16:50Speaker 1: can't just constantly keep your face buried in a phone.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Sometimes you need to watch out for an adult that
- 16:55Speaker 1: may pull you out of a car and throw you
- 16:56Speaker 1: over a fence.
- 16:57Speaker 5: All you. Here's one kid's like dad's drinking again.
- 17:02Speaker 2: And it was that day Timmy decided he did not
- 17:04Speaker 2: want to be Superman.
- 17:14Speaker 5: He created a new superhero, ground Man.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Very flat. All right, let's uh, let's let's let's continue
- 17:29Speaker 1: on this path down the path of stupid criminals. Newsflash,
- 17:34Speaker 1: it is not a good idea to door dash your
- 17:36Speaker 1: murder supplies. Seems like something you wouldn't have to tell somebody,
- 17:40Speaker 1: But here we are. H Uh. This story takes us
- 17:46Speaker 1: to Sweetwater, Texas. On Monday morning, a door dash driver
- 17:50Speaker 1: alerted police after making a very strange delivery to a
- 17:53Speaker 1: motel in Sweetwater, Texas. Same day delivery services are supposed
- 18:00Speaker 1: being you know, convenient for food, last minute items like
- 18:02Speaker 1: toilet paper or something not necessarily murder supplies. Police say
- 18:08Speaker 1: a forty two year old man named Neil Cooper placed
- 18:10Speaker 1: an order on door Dash for kidnapping slash murder tools.
- 18:15Speaker 1: The list of items has not been completely released, but
- 18:19Speaker 1: rumor has it the delivery included trash bags, zip ties, bleach,
- 18:24Speaker 1: a hatchet, and more. And there is more to this story.
- 18:29Speaker 1: When police showed up at the motel thanks to the
- 18:32Speaker 1: tip from the door Dash driver who was delivering the
- 18:35Speaker 1: murder supplies, they actually found and rescued a hostage. So
- 18:41Speaker 1: good job, Wow, good job Popo, and good job door
- 18:46Speaker 1: Dash to empathize these items should not be all in
- 18:52Speaker 1: one thing at this sketchy motel.
- 18:56Speaker 4: I mean, I always thought, you know, it was just
- 18:58Speaker 4: pure laziness to get Taco Bell DoorDash, but you can't
- 19:03Speaker 4: even go buy your own fucking murder supplies.
- 19:08Speaker 1: It really is like there really is a generation of lazy,
- 19:11Speaker 1: Like you can't even murder with effort anymore.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Do you leave a five star thanks for the delivery?
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's probably probably a good thing. Like if I'm
- 19:24Speaker 1: the door Dash guy and I'm on the phone with
- 19:25Speaker 1: nine one one. Okay, look here's the deal. There's some
- 19:28Speaker 1: suspicious items in this delivery I'm making. I just drop
- 19:30Speaker 1: it off at this CD motel in Sweetwater, Texas. Do
- 19:34Speaker 1: me as solid whatever you do, don't bust him until
- 19:37Speaker 1: I get my five star rating.
- 19:42Speaker 3: I'm went away from platinum. Just give me, just give
- 19:45Speaker 3: me this. I like how the murderer was trying to
- 19:54Speaker 3: reduce his carbon footprint. I was like, you know what,
- 19:56Speaker 3: I'll just have it delivered. I'm not I'm not getting
- 19:59Speaker 3: the get in the diesel.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Here's here's another scary thing or just weird coincidence. The
- 20:10Speaker 1: items that were in his door dash delivery that were
- 20:14Speaker 1: alleged murder supplies, right, trash bags, zip ties, bleach, a hatchet,
- 20:24Speaker 1: and more of those four things. My wife has three
- 20:29Speaker 1: of those in her car at all times because she's
- 20:31Speaker 1: a wedding planner. So I try to remind people when
- 20:35Speaker 1: someone says, hey, do you have been to have any
- 20:37Speaker 1: zip ties, like, oh, yeah, we got a ton of
- 20:38Speaker 1: the car. I have to remind them we're not murderers.
- 20:41Speaker 1: My wife's just a wedding planner. But when you have
- 20:45Speaker 1: those items in your car at all times, it really
- 20:48Speaker 1: is kind of a fifty to fifty either serial killer
- 20:51Speaker 1: or wedding planner, the hatchet that definitely leans more cerial.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Oh yes, exactly.
