- 0:50Speaker 1: some show on the Sports Hub on Saturday. Yeah. Pause.
- 0:54Speaker 1: That was a terrible red zone defense too. It didn't
- 0:56Speaker 1: really matter, No that did We got two red zone touchdowns? Yeah, yes,
- 1:00Speaker 1: I mean we need to have an intervention. It's never
- 1:03Speaker 1: good enough. Josh Husha, I'm tired of getting sad. Do

- 1:31Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All Right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It
- 1:37Speaker 1: is Tuesday here at Gillette Stadium, getting ready for a
- 1:41Speaker 1: Saturday game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Christmas Eve. But yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 1: I think we unfortunately we have to talk about this
- 1:52Speaker 1: last game that happened, and uh, you know, we now
- 1:56Speaker 1: have our butt fumble game. I mean, let's face it,
- 2:00Speaker 1: let's own it. It's probably one of the stupidest endings
- 2:03Speaker 1: to a game I've ever seen. And we'd be laughing
- 2:08Speaker 1: at any other team that did it, so laugh away
- 2:10Speaker 1: because we did it. You know, we sure did do it. Yeah.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. Two
- 2:16Speaker 1: days later, what is it? Two days? I mean, it's
- 2:18Speaker 1: just I can't believe it. I mean, and you know,
- 2:20Speaker 1: I said on the show, just I think the thing
- 2:22Speaker 1: that was frustrating was that not that they did anything
- 2:24Speaker 1: new or dynamic or special, but it just seemed like
- 2:26Speaker 1: they were about to pull out a win in a
- 2:27Speaker 1: way you hadn't really seen and that they really needed
- 2:30Speaker 1: any and go eight and six, you know, and just
- 2:32Speaker 1: stay alive. Yeah, and then they just blew it in
- 2:35Speaker 1: absolute epic fashion. And I just that my job is
- 2:39Speaker 1: still on the floor. Yeah, Deuce is here, Evan's here,
- 2:42Speaker 1: Paul's here, Matt's in the booth. I'm here, and we'll
- 2:44Speaker 1: talk about it. Well, we'll talk about things for the
- 2:47Speaker 1: next two hours. We're not gonna talk just about that,
- 2:50Speaker 1: but we have to talk about it. And you know,
- 2:52Speaker 1: that's is one of those games where I know, we
- 2:54Speaker 1: did our picks, and we all picked against the Patriots,
- 2:57Speaker 1: right I think, Yeah, I even I did, But it's
- 3:00Speaker 1: one of those games where you got to pick right,
- 3:03Speaker 1: but you are wrong, you know, because you know what
- 3:06Speaker 1: I mean, Like I mean the way that game ended, obviously, Yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 1: no one picked that. Like I really I didn't think
- 3:12Speaker 1: going in that they would do so well against Davante Adams.
- 3:16Speaker 1: You know, I didn't think that Romandre Stevenson was going
- 3:20Speaker 1: to run for one hundred and seventy nine yards or
- 3:22Speaker 1: whatever it was. But instead of talking about those great things,
- 3:27Speaker 1: we have to talk about how the game ended, and
- 3:29Speaker 1: it's too bad. You know, um, you know, I just
- 3:33Speaker 1: that's not what any of us envisioned when we said
- 3:35Speaker 1: that the Patriots wouldn't win the game. We thought that
- 3:38Speaker 1: it would be because of or at least I thought,
- 3:40Speaker 1: because Vegas is you know, weapons would be just too
- 3:45Speaker 1: much to handle. That wasn't the case. That wasn't why
- 3:48Speaker 1: they lost. I would agree that's not the reason why
- 3:52Speaker 1: they lost. But I think a lot of people would
- 3:54Speaker 1: have said they can't generate enough offense to win. That's
- 3:57Speaker 1: that would be why they lose. That's true, and that
- 3:59Speaker 1: did happened, and that's why I said that. I don't
- 4:01Speaker 1: really think the game. No, but that game should have
- 4:03Speaker 1: ended in a typical Patriots win fashion where the other
- 4:07Speaker 1: team puked all over, the team made mistakes, you got
- 4:10Speaker 1: a defensive score, and you did just enough to win.
- 4:13Speaker 1: That's how this game should have ended. I agree, you know,
- 4:16Speaker 1: I agree. There's no reason for allowing an eighty one
- 4:18Speaker 1: yard drive to close the game, right. And it's the
- 4:21Speaker 1: old it's the old Patriots thing of you know, taking
- 4:23Speaker 1: away the top weapons, but then you know, you you
- 4:26Speaker 1: win or lose with the third and fourth receiver, and
- 4:28Speaker 1: you know they lost against Keelan Cole and Mac Hollins,
- 4:31Speaker 1: so you know those are the guys. Like, like a
- 4:34Speaker 1: couple of times I focused on where Car's eyes were going,
- 4:37Speaker 1: you know, on passing plays, and he would look at
- 4:39Speaker 1: Davante Adams. It's not like he wasn't looking his way,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and then he would check down to someone else. So
- 4:45Speaker 1: Patriots were doing a good job on him. Yeah, I mean,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I agree. There were so many games where he had
- 4:49Speaker 1: like double jigit targets too, like before this, like he
- 4:51Speaker 1: would throw it up to him. That's taking the other
- 4:54Speaker 1: team's time. Well, fair enough, well said Hi, I'm kidding.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I always said it about one hundred and sixteen times. No,
- 5:05Speaker 1: But if you I wrote this in after further review,
- 5:08Speaker 1: nice plug. If you told me before the game that
- 5:12Speaker 1: the Patriots would hold Ivanta Adams to four for twenty eight,
- 5:16Speaker 1: hold Josh Jacobs under a hundred yards, and hold Max
- 5:19Speaker 1: Crosby and Chandler Jones without a sack, I would say
- 5:22Speaker 1: the Patriots won, right right. I mean, those were the
- 5:25Speaker 1: objectives at the top of the today. They're going to
- 5:29Speaker 1: score a touchdown on defense, and they score a defensive
- 5:32Speaker 1: touchdown like, these were all the objectives that they should
- 5:36Speaker 1: have checked off. And I think the biggest thing is
- 5:39Speaker 1: is that, as we have seen all season long, sometimes
- 5:44Speaker 1: it's not the big picture stuff with this team, it's
- 5:46Speaker 1: the details that lose them games. It's the little things.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And that's why I wish I could say that the
- 5:53Speaker 1: last play was a one off, But this is just
- 5:56Speaker 1: kind of accumulation of fourteen weeks of exactly what we've seen,
- 6:00Speaker 1: maybe exaggerated in one of the most embarrassing ways in
- 6:03Speaker 1: NFL history, But this was all of This was not
- 6:07Speaker 1: a one off. This was all the Patriots have been
- 6:11Speaker 1: an undisciplined, poorly coached, sloppy football team all season long,
- 6:17Speaker 1: and this one play was just a summation of all
- 6:20Speaker 1: of that. Yeah. So when I go back to the
- 6:23Speaker 1: because I was at the Miami Miracle game covering that
- 6:25Speaker 1: game as well, when I go back to that, that
- 6:28Speaker 1: is a one off, right, Like that was a one off,
- 6:31Speaker 1: really well executed hook and ladder by Miami, and you
- 6:34Speaker 1: just kind of chalk it up to that this is
- 6:36Speaker 1: what this team is. Yeah, and you know, Paul will
- 6:40Speaker 1: be proud of us because not one of us mentioned
- 6:42Speaker 1: the bad call by the ref so the bad you
- 6:44Speaker 1: know review, you know, like because that like, yeah, I
- 6:48Speaker 1: think the Patriots get screwed, but everything else overshadows that, Like, okay,
- 6:52Speaker 1: so what you shouldn't have been in that position to
- 6:54Speaker 1: begin with? Right? And I think the other part of it,
- 6:56Speaker 1: And we've talked about this at length on Sunday, I
- 6:58Speaker 1: think if you if I had to go to a
- 7:00Speaker 1: firing squad and offer my opinion, I would say, I
- 7:03Speaker 1: think his foot was touching the line. Yeah, I ain't sure,
- 7:07Speaker 1: but I think he was. It was second down, right,
- 7:10Speaker 1: like the people make it out to be. It was
- 7:12Speaker 1: like the tuck rule, where you know, the Raiders are
- 7:14Speaker 1: covering the fumble, the game's over, Like, no, they were
- 7:16Speaker 1: still on the thirty yard line. They had two more
- 7:19Speaker 1: plays to get ten more yards to get closer. It
- 7:21Speaker 1: already was like in really scary territory. Yeah, like at
- 7:26Speaker 1: that point and by the way, he was open. Yeah yeah,
- 7:30Speaker 1: Like what's to say that someone said that was the
- 7:35Speaker 1: all the things that Evan said about the Patriots is
- 7:37Speaker 1: not a one off? How a thousand percent agree with him?
- 7:40Speaker 1: You know what else wasn't a one off? Why the
- 7:42Speaker 1: Raiders a six and eight? Yeah? Yeah, because everything. I mean,
- 7:45Speaker 1: how many times did he throw the ball downfield to
- 7:47Speaker 1: a guy who's in the clear and threw it like
- 7:49Speaker 1: directly on the wrong side. Yea, Like Matt Collins had
- 7:52Speaker 1: like three different plays. He could have had like a
- 7:54Speaker 1: sixty yard touchdown if only instead of throwing it, you know,
- 7:58Speaker 1: completely to the middle of the field, he throws it
- 8:00Speaker 1: to the outside or vice versa. You know. The funny
- 8:02Speaker 1: thing about this game is, you know, maybe that's the
- 8:05Speaker 1: only way a game like this could have ended, because
- 8:07Speaker 1: you had a team that can't hold a league a
- 8:09Speaker 1: comedy of error, and another team that just can't score points. Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and like, how else is like the meeting of those
- 8:16Speaker 1: two forces is it going to end up? You know,
- 8:19Speaker 1: maybe it was, Maybe it was a fitting ending. I
- 8:21Speaker 1: don't know. I just would have loved to stop on
- 8:23Speaker 1: that fourth down, you know, get the defense, get that
- 8:25Speaker 1: last stop, close it out, like absolutely, there you go,
- 8:27Speaker 1: you take it all out. I just and that's something
- 8:30Speaker 1: like I think this Patriots defense this year has been good.
- 8:32Speaker 1: You know, I don't think that they're great, but I
- 8:34Speaker 1: think that they're good, and I better than last year.
- 8:37Speaker 1: And I just wonder what they will be like if
- 8:39Speaker 1: they had a competent, complimentary offense to work with if
- 8:42Speaker 1: they've played better at times than last year. Yeah, I
- 8:44Speaker 1: mean the late game let down, the last drive, I mean,
- 8:47Speaker 1: that's you know, that sucks. We've seen plenty of Patriots
- 8:49Speaker 1: defenses do that, and you know, games bigger than this
- 8:52Speaker 1: one for sure, you know, thinking Eli Manning, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 1: even with you know, the same thing going to second,
- 8:56Speaker 1: going to Manningham. You know, like like those plays in
- 8:58Speaker 1: the last drive, it's just frustrating because it seemed like, man,
- 9:01Speaker 1: they're really taking this game over whatever. It was five
- 9:04Speaker 1: straight punts, I mean, they were just getting after it
- 9:06Speaker 1: and you know, as we talked about on the show,
- 9:08Speaker 1: was just the pass rush. They couldn't get after him anymore,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden he was able to
- 9:11Speaker 1: make those throws. And I think, you know, you can
- 9:14Speaker 1: you can look at it two different ways. I and
- 9:16Speaker 1: I get that sometimes I look at it from sort
- 9:18Speaker 1: of a negative perspective, I do, you know, but I
- 9:21Speaker 1: do think it was more about what the Raiders weren't
- 9:23Speaker 1: doing or we're doing in this particular case, and that is,
- 9:26Speaker 1: you know, committing a penalty on every single possession. And
- 9:30Speaker 1: I just think the Patriots are too smart for that.
- 9:32Speaker 1: You know, you consistently want to go second and fifteen.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Patriots are going to find a way to get off
- 9:36Speaker 1: the field. And I thought that some of the things
- 9:38Speaker 1: that they did occasionally, you know, they would get them
- 9:41Speaker 1: in those situations, like Miles Bryant would come off the slot,
- 9:44Speaker 1: rush them, you know, throw away. Now it's third and fifteen.
- 9:47Speaker 1: You're not converting third and fifteens consistently in that league.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I don't care how good you are offensively. And I
- 9:52Speaker 1: thought the Patriots really did a good job of taking
- 9:55Speaker 1: advantage of all of it. I think they had nine
- 9:57Speaker 1: offensive penalties. The Raiders they had thirteen penalt these altogether,
- 10:00Speaker 1: it was eight or nine on offense. And I thought
- 10:03Speaker 1: the Patriots defense like that played right into their hands
- 10:05Speaker 1: and they completely shut it down. Five straight punts and
- 10:09Speaker 1: really no threat at all to score in the second
- 10:12Speaker 1: half until the last drive. Yeah, It's it's almost like,
- 10:15Speaker 1: you know, clearly the momentum was on the Patriots side,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and it's almost like maybe your Romandre and Mayers were
- 10:23Speaker 1: feeling too good about themselves at that point, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 1: it wasn't on the Patriot's side on that play. No, Well,
- 10:28Speaker 1: because they had just scored. But but like the offense
- 10:30Speaker 1: had been playing better in the second half. Oh, I disagreed.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I think the offense was a mess. Thought. I think
- 10:35Speaker 1: they were removing the ball. I think the best drive
- 10:37Speaker 1: they had was the one that they self destructed in
- 10:39Speaker 1: the red zone, had an eighty seven yard drive. Listen,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I I do you think the Pagrio's defense played well. Yes,
- 10:46Speaker 1: Patriots had the same amount of yards that the Raiders did.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I know, but like, I think the pagris defense played
- 10:50Speaker 1: really well. But you know, like the offensive line, I
- 10:53Speaker 1: was pleased with the way the old line played, the
- 10:55Speaker 1: way they were pushing. Fine. You know, I wasn't pleased
- 10:59Speaker 1: with the quarterback going thirteen for thirty one Mac. We'll
- 11:02Speaker 1: talk about Max separately, absolutely um, because he was not
- 11:06Speaker 1: that good. But I thought the running game was there.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I thought the protection for the most part was there.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I don't think they didn't move the ball and score.
- 11:12Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying. Okay, the offense wasn't good, but
- 11:15Speaker 1: like the Raiders offense wasn't good either, But there was
- 11:19Speaker 1: there was elements of there for the offense that it
- 11:22Speaker 1: could have been good. Like like, I can't say that
- 11:25Speaker 1: Oh Mac Mac couldn't get Mac didn't have time. He
- 11:27Speaker 1: had time, The Patriots could run the ball. There were holes.
- 11:32Speaker 1: You know, they just like like it's been the issue.
- 11:35Speaker 1: They just can't exit, you know, they can't take advantage of.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But I you know, compared to how the old lines
- 11:40Speaker 1: played lately, I think they played great in this game. Yes, no, yeah,
- 11:45Speaker 1: they just didn't score. I know, but like I mean,
- 11:47Speaker 1: you said, like they could have, but I agree, but
- 11:50Speaker 1: I could have. But again I said, well, talk about
- 11:52Speaker 1: Max separately. I'm probably I'm talking about the offense. I
- 11:55Speaker 1: know I'm talking about Mac. So you think the reason
- 11:57Speaker 1: they didn't school was just Mac Mac probably coaching. Yeah, okay,
- 12:01Speaker 1: can we go back to the defense for a second.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And the last tis Henry because we're gonna we're gonna
- 12:06Speaker 1: talk about Mac and the offense. I'm sure for most
- 12:09Speaker 1: of the time here. This is and I'm not making
- 12:11Speaker 1: excuses for the Patriots, but this is a league wide
- 12:16Speaker 1: issue that I have seen more teams drive the field
- 12:20Speaker 1: in the two minute rial to tie or go ahead
- 12:21Speaker 1: and late in the game. Oh that's the NFL. It's
- 12:24Speaker 1: a problem. No defense can get a stop in that
- 12:27Speaker 1: position anymore. And it's it's like a I don't know
- 12:31Speaker 1: what it is. Like, I'm just gonna ask you, what
- 12:33Speaker 1: do you think it is? Because I mean, it's totally true.
- 12:35Speaker 1: And so I think the biggest thing is is that
- 12:41Speaker 1: they they treat the first let's call it twenty five
- 12:45Speaker 1: yards as prevent defense, right like they are just trying
- 12:49Speaker 1: not to give up the eighty yard touchdown and try
- 12:51Speaker 1: to make you drive the field. And then they actually
- 12:54Speaker 1: start playing defense when you cross the fifty and from
- 12:58Speaker 1: I don't understand that. You know, it's fourth and ten
- 13:01Speaker 1: and Marcus Jones is giving him twelve yards of cushion
- 13:05Speaker 1: on the outside, so he just runs a deep comeback
- 13:07Speaker 1: at the sticks and it's first down. Like what in
- 13:11Speaker 1: the whole game they're they're calling you know, these aggressive
- 13:14Speaker 1: simulated pressures, blitzes, whatever you want to call. They're calling
- 13:17Speaker 1: aggressive defense the whole game. And then they go into
- 13:20Speaker 1: the shell there and then on the Keeling Cole touchdown
- 13:25Speaker 1: they go back to what was working. But at that
- 13:28Speaker 1: point the Raiders had already seen it too many times
- 13:30Speaker 1: and Derek Carr just knew where to go with the football.
- 13:33Speaker 1: So it just the whole league I have not ever
- 13:38Speaker 1: can ever recall seeing more game tying drives down a
- 13:44Speaker 1: touchdown with less than two minutes to go than I
- 13:46Speaker 1: have seen this season. I totally agree, and it's it's mine,
- 13:50Speaker 1: like it's fourth and ten. Get off the fields like
- 13:54Speaker 1: you're killing me. I don't have any numbers on like
- 13:57Speaker 1: this season and compared to past seasons, but I never
- 14:00Speaker 1: feel like the defense ever gets a stop in this situation.
- 14:02Speaker 1: It's crazy. I don't know if this is a new thing.
- 14:05Speaker 1: That's why, Like I I'll tell you, and I said
- 14:07Speaker 1: it to Mike. I was really surprised the Patriots didn't
- 14:10Speaker 1: at least threatened to get into field goal range with
- 14:14Speaker 1: thirty two seconds and two timeouts to not even get close,
- 14:18Speaker 1: not even get it, couldn't even get on the radar
- 14:20Speaker 1: side of the field. Embarrassed that drive. The final play
- 14:25Speaker 1: was a perfect summation of that drive, because that drive
- 14:28Speaker 1: up until that point was napjack disaster as well. Guys
- 14:31Speaker 1: running into each other down the field, terrible spacing, running
- 14:35Speaker 1: right into helper into leverage, which we can get to
- 14:37Speaker 1: you a little bit. Is we waste about twelve seconds
- 14:39Speaker 1: at one point. Well, they only had two timeouts. They
- 14:42Speaker 1: had the two timeouts they used them like they had
- 14:44Speaker 1: to use them on the first play because they throw
- 14:46Speaker 1: underneath for like eight yards on the first play. Yeah, like,
- 14:48Speaker 1: either you got to throw to the sidelines for eight yards,
- 14:51Speaker 1: I have no problem with that, or you gotta get
- 14:53Speaker 1: you gotta get a chunk play if you're going over
- 14:54Speaker 1: the middle, like getting to the line at one they
- 14:56Speaker 1: didn't call time out. I don't know. I just remember thinking,
- 14:59Speaker 1: what are we doing, Harry, Harry, Yeah, and the other thing.
- 15:01Speaker 1: And I'm hoping to ask him about this in the
- 15:05Speaker 1: locker room because I'm not going to get a straight
- 15:06Speaker 1: answer from the coaches. And that is on the killing
- 15:09Speaker 1: Coal touchdown. Guess who wasn't on the field, Josh. Yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 1: they took UJ out and put Anthony Jennings on the field.
- 15:16Speaker 1: UJ was on the field for the entire drive up
- 15:18Speaker 1: until that point. I went back and watched again to
- 15:21Speaker 1: see if he got banged up or nicked up or something.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Maybe there was a you know, maybe he's he's out
- 15:26Speaker 1: of gas. Like I don't know, I saw it just
- 15:28Speaker 1: real quick. I saw one camp shot near the end
- 15:30Speaker 1: of the game. He looked a little tired. I'm just speculating. Yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 1: there was one moment where I'm like, j seems like
- 15:34Speaker 1: he's out of breath, right, but I don't know. But
- 15:37Speaker 1: good point, I mean, and no waste of time. It was.
- 15:39Speaker 1: There was thirty two seconds. They threw an eight yard
- 15:41Speaker 1: pass time out, so with twenty five seconds. Uh, it
- 15:46Speaker 1: was incomplete, so no need you know twenty seconds. They
- 15:49Speaker 1: had to run a draw to get the first time
- 15:52Speaker 1: out immediately. Yes, I just the thirty two to twenty
- 15:55Speaker 1: five all right, Like that's that means, yeah, you're not
- 15:58Speaker 1: getting get much quicker than that. Yeah. Then they had
- 16:01Speaker 1: to run a draw, which is another terrible you know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: because it's third and two. Now you run the risk
- 16:06Speaker 1: of if I don't get the first down, if I
- 16:07Speaker 1: throw an incomplete pass, I have to bunt. Yeah. They
- 16:09Speaker 1: ran back to back draws, right, so you don't want
- 16:11Speaker 1: to do that. So they run a draw, they get
- 16:12Speaker 1: the first down, they have to call time out again.
- 16:14Speaker 1: This fourteen seconds left, incomplete pass, incomplete pass ten seconds left.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Then it goes down to three seconds and now you're
- 16:22Speaker 1: run that draw. Yeah. Yeah, so they didn't waste huge
- 16:25Speaker 1: time per se. But I thought the play calling was
- 16:28Speaker 1: highly suspect and I'm sorry it's it's like completely ignoring
- 16:33Speaker 1: everything because of what happened on that last play. But
- 16:36Speaker 1: I'm sorry running a draw from the your own forty
- 16:38Speaker 1: five yards of mine. Just take a knee, yep. I've
- 16:41Speaker 1: never seen a guy take a knee and lose the ball.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I've seen guys fumble on draws. So that to me,
- 16:47Speaker 1: if you if you really thought I did see somebody
- 16:49Speaker 1: take a knee this year and lose it. Remember that game?
- 16:52Speaker 1: The goal line was it? Oh that was a see
- 16:55Speaker 1: he didn't take a knee. He fumbled a snap. Yeah, okay, Josh,
- 16:58Speaker 1: I've seen a guy fumble a snap. Yeah yeah, well yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 1: but snap the ball to take the knee, didn't okay,
- 17:04Speaker 1: But you have to snap the ball to get the
- 17:06Speaker 1: drawer off too, Like you have to snap the ball
- 17:08Speaker 1: to the play anyway, Like I can't. I can't eliminate
- 17:11Speaker 1: the snap from the equation. I can eliminate exactly. I
- 17:13Speaker 1: can eliminate the risk of a fumble by just taking
- 17:16Speaker 1: a knee, right, don't even put the ball in play.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I don't even want you looking at the ball. Eleven
- 17:21Speaker 1: you go in the bathroom, I don't want you looking
- 17:23Speaker 1: at the ball. Don't bring the ball like like if
- 17:27Speaker 1: and I know that Bill was really upset after the game,
- 17:29Speaker 1: and rightly so, but if he really believed that his
- 17:32Speaker 1: quarterback couldn't throw the ball sixty yards, which I think
- 17:36Speaker 1: is an abject lie, Well he kind of, he said, Yeah,
- 17:39Speaker 1: he didn't clear it up with the media, cleared up
- 17:41Speaker 1: with his contractor. I don't know if he meant like
- 17:43Speaker 1: he wouldn't have had time to get it away it
- 17:46Speaker 1: was too far. Yeah, yeah, so I can't throw it
- 17:49Speaker 1: that far? Yeah, couldn't. I think couldn't throw it that far?
- 17:52Speaker 1: Was the quote. Yeah. Now, I think he clarified it
- 17:54Speaker 1: in his contractually albigate an interview on Wei, but not
- 17:57Speaker 1: with the media. Right. No. I also just want to
- 18:02Speaker 1: say one thing real quick about this that I think
- 18:06Speaker 1: is more inside baseball maybe than anything, but I'm gonna
- 18:08Speaker 1: say it anyways. So after the game, Jakobe Myers stood
- 18:12Speaker 1: at his locker, answered questions, tears in his eyes, super
- 18:17Speaker 1: accountable about it, like I'm not making an excuse for
- 18:19Speaker 1: the play was awful, but the way he handled himself
- 18:22Speaker 1: after that game was extremely professional and candid, honest the
- 18:27Speaker 1: whole thing. I thought Ramondre was the same way, and
- 18:30Speaker 1: I thought Mac was the same way. And I think
- 18:32Speaker 1: one of the frustrating parts just speaking to players in
- 18:35Speaker 1: the locker room and getting the feel of it, especially
- 18:38Speaker 1: out in Arizona. I think one of the frustrating parts
- 18:42Speaker 1: that the players have right now is that it doesn't
- 18:45Speaker 1: feel like the coaching staff is accountable in the same
- 18:50Speaker 1: sense that some of the players have been accountable. And
- 18:53Speaker 1: all these players go up there. Mac Jones goes up
- 18:55Speaker 1: to the podium and says he should have tackled Chandler Jones.
- 18:58Speaker 1: The quarterback said he it was my fault that I
- 19:02Speaker 1: didn't tackle Chandler Jones. And then Belichick gets up there.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Won't give us an answer really, it says mistakes were made. Really,
- 19:12Speaker 1: thank you, Like we can see that, Okay, what what?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Why was the situation not conveyed to the players? What
- 19:20Speaker 1: was conveyed to the player? But what But like I see,
- 19:24Speaker 1: Bill's in a tough place because let's say he did, like,
- 19:27Speaker 1: you know, he did convey the situation. Didn't say that
- 19:30Speaker 1: then he like he doesn't want to say, like they
- 19:33Speaker 1: screwed up him saying that there was mistakes on the players,
- 19:35Speaker 1: throwing the players on the bus for it anyway, I know,
- 19:37Speaker 1: but he like he can't go into detail because he's
- 19:40Speaker 1: never does that. He never did, he might never do it.
- 19:43Speaker 1: But this is different, like when you have a play
- 19:45Speaker 1: like that. This is different. Then the second thing that
- 19:47Speaker 1: I'll throw out there is that today we had assistant
- 19:50Speaker 1: assistant coaches were available. Ma Patricia didn't talk, Joe Judge
- 19:55Speaker 1: didn't talk. They threw Nick Klee out there because it's
- 19:58Speaker 1: his turn in the rotation to speak. And at some
- 20:03Speaker 1: point in time, like you have to have, it has
- 20:05Speaker 1: to be a two way street because the players, they talk, right,
- 20:08Speaker 1: they go up there and they and they tell us
- 20:10Speaker 1: what's going on, and they tell us what their perspective
- 20:12Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff. It's probably Jacoby Myers's
- 20:15Speaker 1: worst day of his life, and he went up there
- 20:17Speaker 1: and he answered the same questions. And I think that
- 20:20Speaker 1: they feel internally that there's not a lot of accountability
- 20:24Speaker 1: in terms of this is an absolute dumpster fire on
- 20:28Speaker 1: offense and there's really no back and forth there. And
- 20:33Speaker 1: then in terms of talking to us and talking to
- 20:35Speaker 1: the media, they don't. They don't either they don't answer
- 20:39Speaker 1: the questions or we're not even able to ask them
- 20:41Speaker 1: the questions because they don't make them available, and after
- 20:43Speaker 1: a game like that where the offense was horrible for
- 20:46Speaker 1: four quarters and then you end the game like that
- 20:49Speaker 1: and the guy calling the plays isn't available to the
- 20:51Speaker 1: media the next week. I mean, I just I don't
- 20:53Speaker 1: think that that's fair to the players at all. Can
- 20:54Speaker 1: I ask? I want to ask two questions to follow
- 20:57Speaker 1: up to this. You, um, you guys, fred In Evan,
- 21:00Speaker 1: you're on the road. Every game has Bill been the
- 21:04Speaker 1: first to speak more often than not always last? He's
- 21:08Speaker 1: always last? Yeah, okay, so that completely illimazed that. I
- 21:11Speaker 1: thought that was a terrible look that he made. He
- 21:14Speaker 1: used to be first. I thought the fact that that
- 21:16Speaker 1: three players had to go to the podium a players,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I thought was was a really bad look. But if
- 21:22Speaker 1: you're telling me that that's what happens every week, every week,
- 21:24Speaker 1: and I'll you know, this year, I think he should
- 21:27Speaker 1: have made an exception this week and said, this isn't
- 21:29Speaker 1: the regular game. I need to get out there and
- 21:30Speaker 1: speak first. Rare, you know, once in a while there
- 21:34Speaker 1: might be one straggler player that comes in after Billy,
- 21:37Speaker 1: but for the most part, he's been last. So the
- 21:40Speaker 1: second one I want to ask, and this is to
- 21:42Speaker 1: Evan and Mike. You guys have been in the locker
- 21:44Speaker 1: room here, you know, for all open locker room periods.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I know, Evan, you've been to everyone. Mike, I assume
- 21:49Speaker 1: that you're at most, if not all. Um. Do you
- 21:53Speaker 1: get a sense that there was a growing amount of
- 21:55Speaker 1: that kind of attitude, that the players are doing their
- 21:59Speaker 1: best to be accountable and that they're getting let down. Yes,
- 22:03Speaker 1: And I think the biggest thing that I would say
- 22:05Speaker 1: is that I want to separate buying from effort, because
- 22:09Speaker 1: effort I don't question with the with the offense, I
- 22:12Speaker 1: think they're trying. The players are trying to get better
- 22:15Speaker 1: and trying to do the right things on the field.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I think that there's a real lack of buy in
- 22:20Speaker 1: in terms of confidence that they are doing the right
- 22:22Speaker 1: things and being told to do the right things, and
- 22:25Speaker 1: they're scheming it up properly and all those kinds of
- 22:28Speaker 1: things that I think is a real issue that I
- 22:32Speaker 1: know it gets talked a lot about on talk Radio
- 22:35Speaker 1: nine eighty five and things like that that might seem exaggerated,
- 22:39Speaker 1: but I truly think that it's a real issue that
- 22:43Speaker 1: they feel, and it starts with the quarterback. I don't
- 22:47Speaker 1: think that Mac Jones feels like he has the tools
- 22:50Speaker 1: to be successful on the field, and that's why I
- 22:53Speaker 1: think a lot of the frustrations that we're seeing on
- 22:56Speaker 1: TV over the last couple of weeks of him having
- 22:58Speaker 1: these outbursts, I think that's where it stems from, is
- 23:01Speaker 1: that he just doesn't feel like they call their down
- 23:05Speaker 1: plays and they're running right into coverage. Yeah. I just
- 23:08Speaker 1: wonder if, like, because I thought the way you phrase that,
- 23:11Speaker 1: with the way the players stood and spoke and said, yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 1: that's on me, and then the coaches aren't doing that. Yeah,
- 23:18Speaker 1: if that element of it was something that you can sense,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I don't think there's any doubt. I don't think anybody
- 23:25Speaker 1: would argue that what you're seeing offensively is a lack
- 23:27Speaker 1: of buying. They don't have confidence in faith that what
- 23:30Speaker 1: they're being prepped to do is going to work because
- 23:33Speaker 1: it hasn't worked all year. Yeah, they have no confidence.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I mean, and I score one touchdown every game. And
- 23:38Speaker 1: it goes back to like some of the young coaches,
- 23:40Speaker 1: I remember Josh talking about this, as you know, as
- 23:42Speaker 1: a young coach, it's you're in a weird position because
- 23:43Speaker 1: sometimes you're younger than the players you might be coaching
- 23:46Speaker 1: or you're the same age as them, and you know,
- 23:47Speaker 1: and they talked about you just want to feel like
- 23:50Speaker 1: the players know that you're giving them information to be
- 23:52Speaker 1: successful and to put them in position to win. And
- 23:55Speaker 1: I think to Evan's point, it doesn't feel like they
- 23:57Speaker 1: feel like even if we execute what they're telling us
- 24:00Speaker 1: to do, it's not gonna it's not gonna happen. What
- 24:02Speaker 1: And I also connected it on the show, which you
- 24:05Speaker 1: know last week there're a lot of on pause channels
- 24:07Speaker 1: talk of you know, a lot of this stuff that
- 24:09Speaker 1: the players feeling like they need to take things in
- 24:10Speaker 1: their own hands. That play felt like we need to
- 24:13Speaker 1: take things in our own hands. I don't know if
- 24:14Speaker 1: if I'm going to directly collect guy that emails me
- 24:17Speaker 1: all the time, he calls them the insurrectionists. Yeah, and
- 24:19Speaker 1: they just went Rogan did it all on in their
- 24:20Speaker 1: own I don't know that plan on the mindset of
- 24:24Speaker 1: the team is that I need to do something right
- 24:26Speaker 1: now because we don't have a plan. That's what said.
- 24:28Speaker 1: He said, I need I was trying to be a
- 24:30Speaker 1: here arroball. Yeah, I felt I felt for them because
- 24:33Speaker 1: I I do think those two in particular, Um, Stevenson
- 24:37Speaker 1: and Myers. I'm not telling you you can question anybody
- 24:41Speaker 1: you know in terms of effort or whatever, but those
- 24:44Speaker 1: would be number fifty two and fifty three on my
- 24:48Speaker 1: list of questioning their their mindset, their effort, their preparation,
- 24:53Speaker 1: broken tackles, plays, injuries. Yeah, I mean both guys planning.
- 24:56Speaker 1: The fact that Stevenson practiced I think once and didn't start,
- 25:00Speaker 1: so they obviously felt like concerned enough going into the
- 25:03Speaker 1: game that they were like, maybe we don't have to
- 25:05Speaker 1: get and then he puts forth a career high. I mean,
- 25:09Speaker 1: just unfortunate that the game ends the way it does
- 25:11Speaker 1: because those two guys should have been the least of
- 25:13Speaker 1: your worries. I just think it's so telling that hero
- 25:16Speaker 1: ball is the exact opposite of do your job ball, right, Like,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I mean, it's just it's it's exactly what they're not
- 25:21Speaker 1: looking for. Yeah, they weren't desperate. That's those are desperation plays,
- 25:25Speaker 1: and they weren't desperate when you're losing, right right, That's
- 25:29Speaker 1: why I like I I you know, I think I
- 25:31Speaker 1: said it off the air before we started, Like, I
- 25:33Speaker 1: just is there even like an inkling of a possibility
- 25:36Speaker 1: like point one percent chance that maybe someone lost the situation.
- 25:42Speaker 1: I think you said it to me when we were
- 25:43Speaker 1: walking out. They were tied. Oh I know, and I
- 25:46Speaker 1: said to you think that they thought they would lose?
- 25:48Speaker 1: That's what I thought. I know what the score was.
- 25:52Speaker 1: But do you think that maybe, like when Stevenson flips
- 25:55Speaker 1: it to Myers in that split second where Mayer's react
- 25:58Speaker 1: and gets the ball and he's like, well he just
- 26:00Speaker 1: flipped it to me. I guess we're doing this. We
- 26:02Speaker 1: got we got it. Okay. That's what I keep saying.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I'm not trying to excuse them because obviously if they
- 26:09Speaker 1: did think they were losing, that doesn't make it any better.
- 26:12Speaker 1: It doesn't. It makes it worse. There's there's been a
- 26:14Speaker 1: lot of silly and unfortunate stuff coming up, but my
- 26:17Speaker 1: favorite was not they always put those little dot diagrams
- 26:19Speaker 1: out of certain places, and somebody altered it to be like,
- 26:21Speaker 1: this is what Jakobe Myers thought would happen, and they
- 26:23Speaker 1: did it, like the ball going back to Mac and
- 26:25Speaker 1: then Mac like out running all twenty one other guys
- 26:28Speaker 1: on the field up. The side of the true lunacy
- 26:31Speaker 1: of the play thought is if it worked exactly the
- 26:34Speaker 1: way you wanted to then one right, then you probably
- 26:38Speaker 1: get your quarterback hurt. And then point Evan said, you know,
- 26:42Speaker 1: if they were designing something like you think we're throwing
- 26:44Speaker 1: it back to Marcus Jones, like oh that makes sense,
- 26:47Speaker 1: Like like that would have made sense, but still would
- 26:50Speaker 1: have been done and then still would have been very dumb.
- 26:53Speaker 1: But we're okay, I see what they would trying to,
- 26:55Speaker 1: like what what lateral play starts with a draw? You know,
- 26:59Speaker 1: and then on top at all, you know, he didn't
- 27:01Speaker 1: think the quarterback could throw it fired? Oh yeah, you know,
- 27:05Speaker 1: like we said, what makes city just so much worse
- 27:08Speaker 1: is the situation. The Patriots could have been eight and six,
- 27:12Speaker 1: They could have you know, been in really really good
- 27:15Speaker 1: shape for the playoffs, and now they're out. You know,
- 27:18Speaker 1: if the season ended today, they'd be out of the playoffs.
- 27:21Speaker 1: And it's just a huge opportunity loss. You know, we said,
- 27:25Speaker 1: you know, with the schedule the way it is, this
- 27:27Speaker 1: is a game you gotta win. This is a winnable game.
- 27:29Speaker 1: They had it, They had it. I mean, it's it's
- 27:31Speaker 1: I mean, I think Paul understand, it's one of the
- 27:32Speaker 1: only games you felt like they pissed away. Yeah, I
- 27:35Speaker 1: mean it's the first game that I think would go
- 27:37Speaker 1: into the category if they should have won that game. Yeah,
- 27:40Speaker 1: like you could have won other you could have won Minnesota,
- 27:43Speaker 1: but this is a game you should have won. You
- 27:45Speaker 1: had a seven point lead with fourth thirty seconds left
- 27:49Speaker 1: in the game. You should win. I mean they got
- 27:50Speaker 1: the first. I mean they both the defense and the
- 27:52Speaker 1: offense had chances to close the game out with a win.
- 27:54Speaker 1: You always talk about they never got the ball back
- 27:55Speaker 1: with the with the lead, Well you know they did.
- 27:57Speaker 1: They had the ball with the lead and the lead.
- 27:59Speaker 1: They had to get a stuff. That was another one
- 28:01Speaker 1: like that. This is another reason why like I can't
- 28:03Speaker 1: get on board with the improvement offensively, Like that was
- 28:06Speaker 1: a horrific series too. That doesn't even get talked about
- 28:09Speaker 1: it because of what happened. Naked bootleg call was that's
- 28:13Speaker 1: honestly a I don't even have the words. People would
- 28:17Speaker 1: be talking about that if it wasn't somebody somebody who
- 28:22Speaker 1: isn't even like doesn't barely knows whether the football is
- 28:26Speaker 1: stuffed or puffed, said, why are they calling a play
- 28:30Speaker 1: that would get our quarterback hurt? I mean the person
- 28:34Speaker 1: was exactly right, like other than it was just a
- 28:36Speaker 1: bad play, like right, I don't even not that I
- 28:39Speaker 1: don't care about the quarterback getting hurt, but that the
- 28:42Speaker 1: balls on the left hash okay, And so there is
- 28:47Speaker 1: there is reason, like if you have justin fields at quarterback,
- 28:49Speaker 1: you could say, okay, a four three guy, right, this works, right,
- 28:53Speaker 1: But the problem was is because the ball it was
- 28:56Speaker 1: on the left hash, they were running it to Max
- 28:58Speaker 1: Crosby's side. Max Crosby is one of the smartest players
- 29:02Speaker 1: in the league. You're not going to fool him. Oh
- 29:03Speaker 1: and by the way, you fooled him, But you don't
- 29:06Speaker 1: have to your point, you don't have justin fields. If
- 29:08Speaker 1: that was justin fields and everything unfolded exactly the same.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Now obviously everything changes. The defense is playing that they're
- 29:15Speaker 1: not thinking any way shape or for him, they're going
- 29:17Speaker 1: to run a naked bootleg here. If it was if
- 29:19Speaker 1: it was third and three, Crosby comes crashing in turns
- 29:23Speaker 1: and chase them down. Yeah, because to Evan's point, it's
- 29:27Speaker 1: Mack Jones. No disrespect to Mac Jones, that's not his
- 29:31Speaker 1: skill set. If that was justin Fields or another mobile quarterback,
- 29:35Speaker 1: he probably gets the Edging gets the first down. Yeah,
- 29:38Speaker 1: and it's a different play call, And I also could
- 29:41Speaker 1: have seen it. First of all, it was third and
- 29:43Speaker 1: three instead of third and ten. And I would also
- 29:46Speaker 1: could have seen it if the ball is on the
- 29:48Speaker 1: right hash and you're running it to Chandler Jones aside,
- 29:50Speaker 1: because he is somebody that just comes downhill. But Jones
- 29:54Speaker 1: would have chased them down too, maybe if he got
- 29:56Speaker 1: even if he got fooled. I just running that from
- 30:00Speaker 1: that down in distance towards their best player on defense
- 30:05Speaker 1: is just I don't know what how they thought that
- 30:08Speaker 1: that was going to have any sort of success. And
- 30:09Speaker 1: then you put you you know you, it's eleven yards right,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and now you bring the sideline into it. So let's
- 30:15Speaker 1: say for argument's sake, he gets up field and he's
- 30:18Speaker 1: able to get like six or seven yards. Now he's
- 30:20Speaker 1: looking at the first down stack, He's like, I can
- 30:22Speaker 1: get it. But if I get it and I go
- 30:25Speaker 1: for the pylon and I miss, and I'm sure now
- 30:27Speaker 1: I'm out of bounds, which compounds the fact that I
- 30:30Speaker 1: didn't get the first down, like there was not That
- 30:32Speaker 1: was a horrifically bad play call. Should they'll talk about
- 30:36Speaker 1: it too? Afterwards, it almost sound like he thought they
- 30:38Speaker 1: were going to get him with it. And I think
- 30:40Speaker 1: when there's the post and I'm telling you, I think
- 30:42Speaker 1: they quote unquote did get him with it. It doesn't
- 30:45Speaker 1: matter when your quarterback is not known for his mobility.
- 30:49Speaker 1: There was definitely a second there where if it was
- 30:52Speaker 1: Justin Fields absolutely said if everything unfolded exactly the same
- 30:57Speaker 1: for you, name the mobile quarterback, it's a down. Josh Allen,
- 31:01Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson, Justin Fields, Patrick Mahomes, they all get a
- 31:05Speaker 1: first down if the play is defended the same way.
- 31:08Speaker 1: That's a big gift because obviously with those mobile quarterbacks,
- 31:11Speaker 1: that's more in the defense's mindset going into the disciplined right,
- 31:15Speaker 1: you wouldn't let it. But I think that this goes
- 31:17Speaker 1: back They were two for thirteen on third down, and
- 31:20Speaker 1: I think this goes back to a lot of the
- 31:22Speaker 1: other conversations that they don't even try. Sometimes on third down,
- 31:26Speaker 1: they don't even try the one before the block punt right,
- 31:29Speaker 1: the little dump off to Hunter Henry over the middle
- 31:31Speaker 1: where it got right. If it's five guys tackled them.
- 31:34Speaker 1: If it's third and eight and longer, there's a seventy
- 31:37Speaker 1: five percent chance that they're gonna just give up. No,
- 31:40Speaker 1: you know what Evan will play. They run. It's the
- 31:42Speaker 1: one where the other two wide receivers on the left
- 31:43Speaker 1: get ready to block, and then you get a little
- 31:45Speaker 1: roster and you try to hit him on the crosser
- 31:47Speaker 1: and assume these guys are gonna block, and he always
- 31:49Speaker 1: gets tackled. It right after the little downfield screen. That's
- 31:52Speaker 1: worked once against the Jets the first time they played
- 31:54Speaker 1: the Jets in the Meadowlands. It worked one time because
- 31:57Speaker 1: they hadn't run it yet all year, and now it's
- 31:59Speaker 1: been on tape and so teams just know it's coming.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne. They ran it with Kendrick Bourne earlier in
- 32:03Speaker 1: the game and he dropped and dropped it, but it
- 32:05Speaker 1: was that wasn't going anywhere. Yeah, I know the player
- 32:07Speaker 1: you're talking about. They had one, and it's funny. They
- 32:09Speaker 1: had two third down conversions and one of them was
- 32:11Speaker 1: like a third and eleven to Tyke one thought, and
- 32:13Speaker 1: it was the only the second drive of the game.
- 32:16Speaker 1: It's the only past play of the game that I
- 32:17Speaker 1: looked and I said, that's a Patriot. That's offense. That's
- 32:21Speaker 1: NFL offense. He dropped back to Fred's point, had a
- 32:24Speaker 1: lot of time to throw one third and eleven. Give
- 32:26Speaker 1: the lines some credit. He looked, here comes the incut.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Bang he puts it right on him first down. Yeah,
- 32:33Speaker 1: that's like even like the Jacoby Myers played forty years
- 32:36Speaker 1: that was a coverage bust. He was uncovered, Like they
- 32:39Speaker 1: uncovered him twice on the same play. He missed it
- 32:42Speaker 1: earlier on in the game, and they were there, they
- 32:45Speaker 1: were showing zero blitz and then falling out of it,
- 32:48Speaker 1: and so they just said, Jocoby up the shoot instantly
- 32:51Speaker 1: and by by they weren't falling into it quickly enough
- 32:54Speaker 1: to coverage, so they he missed him earlier on in
- 32:56Speaker 1: the game. He overthrew it and then they hit him
- 32:58Speaker 1: the second time. But I don't I mean, I I
- 33:00Speaker 1: get it some you know, every team is going to
- 33:02Speaker 1: have their plays, But I don't know why you can
- 33:03Speaker 1: run a play that looks so normal. Yeah, remember, like
- 33:06Speaker 1: you and I talked about it for like five minutes
- 33:08Speaker 1: on that play. It was early in the game. It
- 33:10Speaker 1: was like the second drive Adam third, Like, I was like, wow,
- 33:14Speaker 1: we just dropped remember it hard He goes. You know,
- 33:16Speaker 1: it's not like he had a great amount of time.
- 33:17Speaker 1: He had a normal amount of time for normal offense.
- 33:20Speaker 1: I was like, everything looked right on that. They just
- 33:24Speaker 1: can't you know how he had enough time. I assume
- 33:28Speaker 1: they kept they chipped the ends. Yeah, they kept a
- 33:30Speaker 1: couple of guys, and I thought that they did that
- 33:32Speaker 1: on um you you, I know you watch this so
- 33:37Speaker 1: you can correct me. On the last drive, like the
- 33:39Speaker 1: thirty two seconds that look were they keeping Henry in
- 33:41Speaker 1: like they were chipping They were chipping Crosby the entire game? Ye, Like,
- 33:44Speaker 1: which was the right people. I'm not saying no for
- 33:46Speaker 1: the for the bulk of the game, sure, but with
- 33:49Speaker 1: thirty two seconds left, if I could just complete two passes,
- 33:52Speaker 1: I can at least take a shot here. Yeah, like
- 33:55Speaker 1: dot Connor McDermott. Actually, all things considered, seeing that he's
- 33:58Speaker 1: a backup tackle who was just on the Jets practice
- 34:00Speaker 1: squad a month ago, he actually held up pretty well
- 34:03Speaker 1: against Max Crosby, and he he had I would say
- 34:06Speaker 1: four or five true one on ones against Max Crosby,
- 34:10Speaker 1: and I would say it was like a fifty fifties play,
- 34:12Speaker 1: which for a backup tackle against one of the best
- 34:14Speaker 1: batchelors in the league is not Yeah, those guys didn't
- 34:16Speaker 1: wreck the game. For sure, they had I thought they
- 34:18Speaker 1: had some occasional pressure, but they dealt with it really well.
- 34:21Speaker 1: And you know, I think he got hit a couple
- 34:24Speaker 1: of times as he was throwing that affected throws. Yeah,
- 34:27Speaker 1: but not, but not. It's the NFL. It just I mean,
- 34:30Speaker 1: this probably goes without saying, but it just feels like
- 34:32Speaker 1: NFL defenses have seen everything the Patriots have done this season,
- 34:35Speaker 1: and they are completely know what they're trying to do,
- 34:38Speaker 1: and they're completely ready for it. And the Patriots don't
- 34:40Speaker 1: have the creativity to move off of that stuff and
- 34:44Speaker 1: to build off of what was successful to do something different,
- 34:46Speaker 1: and then they just keep doing what was once successful
- 34:49Speaker 1: thinking it was gonna be successful again. I feel like,
- 34:50Speaker 1: you hit a play that's successful, you got to move
- 34:52Speaker 1: on right away. You're not going to be successful with
- 34:53Speaker 1: that again. You got to you know, continue to evolve.
- 34:55Speaker 1: It just feels like they're stuck in me. I just
- 34:57Speaker 1: wonder how close they are to the record of least
- 35:00Speaker 1: amount of offensive touchdowns scored in a season, Like I mean,
- 35:03Speaker 1: they can't be far from right. I mean, I've seen
- 35:06Speaker 1: a lot of the comparisons of like the Patriots have
- 35:08Speaker 1: this many offensive touchdowns this year. You know, this guy
- 35:10Speaker 1: has this many, It'll like compared to how many how many?
- 35:13Speaker 1: How many touchdowns? Has Mac thrown for? Seven touchdowns? Eight interception?
- 35:17Speaker 1: Can you believe that an NFL quarterback seven touchdowns, especially
- 35:21Speaker 1: we're in Week fifteen, has five? Oh you know that
- 35:26Speaker 1: that's that's not a normal NFL offense. No, you know,
- 35:31Speaker 1: any way you cut it, they score one touchdown every game. Yeah,
- 35:35Speaker 1: well that's because they have one drive where they actually
- 35:38Speaker 1: scripted up pretty well. But that the problem is that's it.
- 35:41Speaker 1: That's it, or or Romandre just carries six guys. I mean,
- 35:45Speaker 1: I would say the one touchdown drive involved a thirty
- 35:47Speaker 1: nine yard completion as Evan said, on a on a
- 35:49Speaker 1: bust and then a thirty four yard touchdown run. Yeah
- 35:52Speaker 1: that was a touchdown. Boom, we got three play drive.
- 35:54Speaker 1: It's just every week there is one thing that they
- 35:58Speaker 1: do that I'm like, okay, that was that was good job?
- 36:02Speaker 1: All right, like good like the good job. Right, there's
- 36:05Speaker 1: one thing every week, but then it's one thing and
- 36:07Speaker 1: it's there's never two in three. It's always you know,
- 36:10Speaker 1: it's like the Bills game with the Marcus Jones touchdown? Now,
- 36:12Speaker 1: was there one thing was that we're going to use
- 36:14Speaker 1: Marcus Jones on offense this week? And then the rest
- 36:17Speaker 1: of the game was horrible. Were you intrigued a little
- 36:19Speaker 1: bit with some of the Pierre Strong you said, just
- 36:21Speaker 1: felt like they were dabbling a little bit with maybe
- 36:23Speaker 1: trying to get him. That was there one thing in
- 36:26Speaker 1: this game? And they did it like two or three
- 36:28Speaker 1: times and they stopped doing it, and Pierre Strong I
- 36:31Speaker 1: said it after he I think it was like a
- 36:33Speaker 1: nineteen eighteen yard run that he had in the game,
- 36:35Speaker 1: and he poured Duran armand Di Scott his ankles broken
- 36:39Speaker 1: and uh, he tripped him. I should have been a penalty.
- 36:41Speaker 1: But anyways that he I said it during the game,
- 36:45Speaker 1: I was like, this is a guy that can create
- 36:47Speaker 1: with the ball in his hands. I get this dude
- 36:49Speaker 1: the football, Like what are we doing? And then I
- 36:51Speaker 1: don't think he played. The rest of the game. They
- 36:54Speaker 1: went full Roman tripping and intentional grounding the two least
- 37:00Speaker 1: missed penalty calls. They never get called and it happens
- 37:03Speaker 1: all the time. Well, because he broke his ankles and
- 37:05Speaker 1: as darn Harmon was going down, he's stuck his leg
- 37:08Speaker 1: out and dripped them. H do all right? Five five
- 37:12Speaker 1: hundred is the ACE ticket outline. Web radio at Patriots
- 37:16Speaker 1: dot com is the email address. Uh, let's go to
- 37:19Speaker 1: the phone. See what people have to say. I dare,
- 37:23Speaker 1: I dare say it won't be good. But anyway, Dan's
- 37:25Speaker 1: and Maryland? What's up? Dan's going to remove? Hey turner? Um,
- 37:31Speaker 1: I want to bob you guys to feel all the
- 37:33Speaker 1: work after the game. I learned this pretty hard. You know,
- 37:35Speaker 1: we act and right again after like that. Um, but
- 37:38Speaker 1: all you guys put out good auticles, So thank you,
- 37:41Speaker 1: thank you, thank you. I just I find it unbelievable.
- 37:44Speaker 1: How keeps happening, you know, the delay of games on
- 37:47Speaker 1: the offensive, the punk thing when no one was looking,
- 37:51Speaker 1: and it's just meets from the season, and I just
- 37:53Speaker 1: don't know how to say six coaching. I don't know.
- 37:56Speaker 1: And the last thing is, um, how many players do
- 37:59Speaker 1: you think get a spot next season? Like, regardless of
- 38:03Speaker 1: the contract, how many guys you think have earned a
- 38:06Speaker 1: spot on this team? All right? Thanks? Thank you? Well,
- 38:10Speaker 1: I mean certainly, I hope they keep myers. You know,
- 38:14Speaker 1: Stevenson has earned a spot. David Andrews isn't going anywhere. Well, um,
- 38:20Speaker 1: you know, um, I haven't heard anyone. I think equality
- 38:24Speaker 1: has been good. I think Judean stays obviously. I mean,
- 38:27Speaker 1: there isn't. I think there's a there's stuff to build
- 38:30Speaker 1: on here. Someone gave you a first round pick, would
- 38:33Speaker 1: you trade them for the Judon first round pick? Yeah?
- 38:36Speaker 1: At this point, yeah, I think so they won't. I
- 38:39Speaker 1: don't think they get a first round pick for him,
- 38:41Speaker 1: but I would, I would trade. They might, but they won't. Yeah,
- 38:45Speaker 1: I mean I think I think, I think there's plenty
- 38:47Speaker 1: of players of the team that you could are good
- 38:51Speaker 1: players and you can build with. I think there's some
- 38:53Speaker 1: players and I think, you know, the rookie Marcus Jones
- 38:56Speaker 1: is a big part of that. I just think they're
- 38:58Speaker 1: lacking in places where they really need it the most now,
- 39:02Speaker 1: which is you know, receiver and you know, a tight
- 39:05Speaker 1: end that can change the game a little bit, maybe linebacker.
- 39:07Speaker 1: But I mean, I think there are pieces on defense,
- 39:09Speaker 1: and you know, you put a couple of good pieces
- 39:10Speaker 1: in there and reinforce a couple of spots, maybe cornerback,
- 39:13Speaker 1: and you know, I think they'll be okay on defense
- 39:15Speaker 1: with you know, some of the pieces they have. They
- 39:17Speaker 1: certainly need more, but I think when you look at
- 39:19Speaker 1: what's coming back that they're not in terrible shape there.
- 39:21Speaker 1: But I just I don't know how much it matters
- 39:23Speaker 1: until you get a functional offense and players that can
- 39:27Speaker 1: execute that functional offense. I mean, that's the thing. It's
- 39:30Speaker 1: it's not complimentary offense. We hope to give each other hope,
- 39:35Speaker 1: but not that the offense is given the defense any
- 39:37Speaker 1: hope at this time of year. I mean, it's just
- 39:39Speaker 1: it seems like it's it's the defense is like, man,
- 39:41Speaker 1: we got five straight stops, we gave you a touchdown, like,
- 39:44Speaker 1: and we still have to get the final stop. Like
- 39:46Speaker 1: there's you know, they have to do it by themselves,
- 39:48Speaker 1: like and I don't. I mean, I don't know if
- 39:50Speaker 1: they're gonna win one of these last three games, but
- 39:51Speaker 1: if they do, it's probably gonna be because the defense
- 39:53Speaker 1: are the special teams step up and make either a
- 39:56Speaker 1: game you know, it has to be like a game
- 39:58Speaker 1: making play and then a game ceiling play. Theyre probably
- 40:00Speaker 1: gonna have to do both. I hate to say it,
- 40:02Speaker 1: but like I have gotten to the point where if
- 40:04Speaker 1: they beat anybody of any substance, to me, it's going
- 40:07Speaker 1: to involve the other team just not showing like the Raiders.
- 40:12Speaker 1: The Raiders stink, They stink they should have blown their fifth,
- 40:16Speaker 1: fifth double digit lead at half, right, Yep, they basically
- 40:22Speaker 1: that is what they are. It's not like you were
- 40:24Speaker 1: the only ones to do it to him. That's what
- 40:26Speaker 1: they do. They stink. That to me is that's the
- 40:28Speaker 1: Patriots imo to win. The team pukes. If you look
- 40:31Speaker 1: at some of the contracts, just to answer the question
- 40:34Speaker 1: about like who might not be here, there's an out
- 40:36Speaker 1: in Trent Brown's contract, but he's really affordable for next year,
- 40:39Speaker 1: so I still think that they probably keep him around.
- 40:43Speaker 1: There's an out and Hunter Henry's contract and Johnny Smith
- 40:46Speaker 1: you're stuck with right contractually, you're stuck with him until
- 40:49Speaker 1: next at least next offseason. So maybe they cut ties
- 40:54Speaker 1: with one of those post June first ones, and you know,
- 40:57Speaker 1: I know it's a big cappy. You could eat some
- 40:59Speaker 1: of the money that way. But I wonder if they
- 41:02Speaker 1: look at it and say, you know, let's although I
- 41:05Speaker 1: think Hunter Henry has been the better of the two guys,
- 41:08Speaker 1: allocating that much money to both guys at the tight
- 41:11Speaker 1: end position is a lot of money, and that ten
- 41:14Speaker 1: million dollars that you get from cutting Hunter Henry while
- 41:16Speaker 1: you still have a serviceable tight end and John Smith
- 41:19Speaker 1: on the roster, that might allow you to then use
- 41:23Speaker 1: that extra ten million bucks to get a receiver that
- 41:25Speaker 1: makes a bigger impact on the offense. I just look
- 41:27Speaker 1: at Hunter Henry and Jacobe Meyer's situations and just connect
- 41:30Speaker 1: them directly to Mac and not even on the field.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Just you know Mac. I mean, we heard what he
- 41:34Speaker 1: said about Jacoby after the game being one of his
- 41:37Speaker 1: best friends, you know, Like, like, how much a part
- 41:40Speaker 1: of the plan this year is we got to keep
- 41:42Speaker 1: Mac on the system, you know? And are you able
- 41:44Speaker 1: to do that if you then let Jacoby walk cut
- 41:47Speaker 1: Hunter Henry, you know, like two of his I think
- 41:49Speaker 1: you can if it's if you get him a real coach.
- 41:52Speaker 1: I think that a lot of the frustrations for Mac
- 41:55Speaker 1: will go away. Like if Bill O'Brien's here next year,
- 41:57Speaker 1: then I don't think he's gonna care about the persons.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Can we talk about that too? I just Bill, why
- 42:01Speaker 1: are we putting like and I totally agree. I'm just
- 42:03Speaker 1: saying I think everybody is just now save us. Bill O'Brien,
- 42:06Speaker 1: You're the only hope you're the only one who can
- 42:08Speaker 1: do with Bill O'Brien. Like, I just feel like we're
- 42:10Speaker 1: putting all our chips on Bill O'Brien to save this
- 42:13Speaker 1: team next year. And I'm not convinced he's gonna come
- 42:15Speaker 1: here for sure, So you know, there's got to be
- 42:17Speaker 1: some other options that they consider. Everybody just keeps going
- 42:21Speaker 1: right to Bill O'Brien. Yeah, even regardless. It's just that
- 42:26Speaker 1: it's putting so much on him to just make everything
- 42:28Speaker 1: right again and and and bring it back to what
- 42:31Speaker 1: it was. And I mean, I don't even know even
- 42:32Speaker 1: if Bill Bill O'Brien does come here that he's got
- 42:35Speaker 1: that magic one. Now. I love Bill O'Brien, and I
- 42:37Speaker 1: think he'd be great with Mac. I think like his
- 42:39Speaker 1: temperament with like dealing with this stuff will be a
- 42:41Speaker 1: lot better. But I just I don't want to put
- 42:44Speaker 1: all all my eggs in that one basket of Bill
- 42:46Speaker 1: O'Brien being the only guy that can come in here
- 42:48Speaker 1: and fix it. Uh, Danielle's and Illinois, what's up? Danielle?
- 42:52Speaker 1: Hey guys, So if I can't call in tomorrow or Thursday,
- 42:55Speaker 1: I just want to wish you guys a merry Christmas. Oh,
- 42:57Speaker 1: thank you, thank you you too, Oday, Yeah, thank you.
- 43:00Speaker 1: But you guys actually just touching on why I called in.
- 43:03Speaker 1: I was hoping somebody would say it on the postgame show.
- 43:06Speaker 1: I think it's about like almost an hour end. They
- 43:07Speaker 1: finally brought up Matt Patricia. Now, the few fans I
- 43:12Speaker 1: find around here, we're all having kind of like the
- 43:14Speaker 1: same issues, and we're not putting it all on Matt
- 43:16Speaker 1: Patricia because clearly like we've got a lot offensively that
- 43:20Speaker 1: there's a lot of problems, but we're all just kind
- 43:23Speaker 1: of like, oh, what if you know, we still had
- 43:24Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels. They're like, you're talking about bill O Brian
- 43:26Speaker 1: and how would you guys feel? I know it's like hypothetical,
- 43:29Speaker 1: but what do you think do you think our season
- 43:32Speaker 1: would be? You think we would have a different standing
- 43:35Speaker 1: on a little bit more wins if we had somebody else.
- 43:39Speaker 1: I know it's hard because it's like, who you know,
- 43:41Speaker 1: if we had somebody and they could be worse. I
- 43:42Speaker 1: think it's how do you guys feel? I think I
- 43:44Speaker 1: think combination of someone else and a different attitude going
- 43:48Speaker 1: into the spring. Really, I mean, because remember they made
- 43:52Speaker 1: this change to the offense. And from that point through
- 43:57Speaker 1: training camp, even when you're playing in shorts, this offense
- 44:01Speaker 1: hasn't looked good. So to me, that's all wasted time.
- 44:04Speaker 1: All this experimenting with all this other stuff was wasted time.
- 44:08Speaker 1: So if you combine not doing that and someone else,
- 44:11Speaker 1: I think this offense would be looking better. Yeah, now
- 44:14Speaker 1: would it be. It wouldn't be Kansas City or the Bills,
- 44:17Speaker 1: but it would look better. It would look more like
- 44:20Speaker 1: an NFL offense, which it doesn't look like right now. Yeah,
- 44:23Speaker 1: you know it's hard. This is such a low bar.
- 44:26Speaker 1: It's like, well, what would happen if they were eighteenth
- 44:28Speaker 1: on third down or eighteenth the red zone? You know,
- 44:30Speaker 1: like an average off But that's the thing, like we
- 44:32Speaker 1: have to remember how bad it looked in training cam.
- 44:36Speaker 1: You know, same thing even with CAM, the numbers with
- 44:39Speaker 1: Cam Newton, it didn't look it didn't look like that
- 44:42Speaker 1: bad like CAM look bad, like oh this is CAM,
- 44:45Speaker 1: this is CAM bad. Yeah, I mean if it's like
- 44:47Speaker 1: the numbers are strikingly similar to the year the cam
- 44:51Speaker 1: in to Evans point, why it's worse because you eliminate
- 44:54Speaker 1: the Cam Newton right right right, If you don't even
- 44:57Speaker 1: have that to fall back. That was a sad realization
- 44:59Speaker 1: I can't in the last day or so, was that
- 45:01Speaker 1: this has been a worse off off. I mean just
- 45:04Speaker 1: like it was just like looking up some things like
- 45:08Speaker 1: the Patriots have scored thirty touchdowns, the Raiders only have
- 45:11Speaker 1: thirty five. Like so even like the defense, like that's
- 45:15Speaker 1: what the Raiders do. Well, that's what everybody else play
- 45:18Speaker 1: second half if you just added first half touchdowns the Raiders.
- 45:21Speaker 1: But what I'm what I'm saying is that's what the
- 45:22Speaker 1: Raiders are. Like they tried, they tried to keep you
- 45:25Speaker 1: in it, like in the race, they tried to hand
- 45:28Speaker 1: you the game, I know, and you couldn't take it.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Like that's the frustrating part about it is you took it.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I just couldn't. Like they didn't even do anything to
- 45:37Speaker 1: take it. They just like it's so frustrating. I know
- 45:41Speaker 1: I sound like a baby, but I think they're eleven
- 45:43Speaker 1: win team with Josh McDaniels, I they're eleven win team.
- 45:47Speaker 1: They went from seventh and scoring seventh and red zone
- 45:51Speaker 1: seventh on third down, seventh across the board to seventeenth,
- 45:55Speaker 1: thirty second and twenty ninth and I snumbers are what
- 46:00Speaker 1: they are. I don't I don't love like third down
- 46:04Speaker 1: because I think first and second down often contribute to
- 46:07Speaker 1: third down percentages. But typically speaking, third down and red
- 46:13Speaker 1: zone are schemed downs, right like, those are scheme situations
- 46:18Speaker 1: where having good schemes, being on the right, on the
- 46:23Speaker 1: same page execute like those are. There's a reason why
- 46:26Speaker 1: we isolate those two things and make a big deal
- 46:28Speaker 1: out of the stats with those two things is because
- 46:31Speaker 1: those are schemes situations. And it's same thing on the
- 46:34Speaker 1: defensive side of the football. Third down. When you watch
- 46:36Speaker 1: the Patriots defense, that's when they run their exotics, right like,
- 46:39Speaker 1: that's when they get into their pressure package. That's when
- 46:42Speaker 1: they start to spin the dial in the back end.
- 46:44Speaker 1: The first and second stuff is your base offense. Third
- 46:47Speaker 1: down is where you make your money as a coaching staff.
- 46:49Speaker 1: And they're they're twenty ninth in the league on third
- 46:52Speaker 1: down there, So that that tells you right there that
- 46:55Speaker 1: they have nothing in the bag on third down. Nothing
- 46:59Speaker 1: that takes anybody by surprise, nothing that is different. Nothing,
- 47:03Speaker 1: They have no variety. It's the same thing over and
- 47:05Speaker 1: over again. And the Raiders, the Raiders are just dropping
- 47:09Speaker 1: help defenders right into the passing lane. Widows like they
- 47:12Speaker 1: just knew exactly where to you know, distribute Derek coverage
- 47:17Speaker 1: because they knew exactly what play the Patriots are running.
- 47:20Speaker 1: And that to me is such a major difference between
- 47:24Speaker 1: a coordinate, well coordinate offense. And I'm not even getting
- 47:27Speaker 1: into route spacing and details and timing and all those
- 47:33Speaker 1: other things that go into coordination and coaching as well,
- 47:36Speaker 1: that is completely off with this offense. All Right, We're

- 54:26Speaker 1: Sit in there, take a hit and deliver the ball.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Here comes next ball to attapt a fifty four yard
- 54:33Speaker 1: field goal. Bulk is three for four this season from
- 54:37Speaker 1: fifty plus the longest of twenty twenty two for fifty
- 54:40Speaker 1: two from an air half try on his staff books

- 54:57Speaker 1: hamper from me time tack. What it'side thirty five and
- 55:00Speaker 1: the thirty four not a boy back. It's a one
- 55:04Speaker 1: point game, and Jones under center. I give the steaments
- 55:07Speaker 1: and runs it to the right and go home up
- 55:09Speaker 1: to the good. Five to the tens and the five
- 55:11Speaker 1: ten zone found. Patriots take the lead touchdown doing gun
- 55:17Speaker 1: back back two huge place thirty nun yonder and then
- 55:21Speaker 1: the dagger with stements and a right tackle. The safety
- 55:25Speaker 1: not even in play. In another ultimate collapse by the
- 55:29Speaker 1: Las Vegas Raiders, the Patriots will go for two with
- 55:34Speaker 1: their lead of twenty two seventeen four men motion to
- 55:40Speaker 1: the right, take break, Q me draw Joes, take the staff.
- 55:43Speaker 1: He's gonna throw a lot left the march. He's so good,
- 55:45Speaker 1: an easy catch. Pull the pitch from Jones for two.
- 55:49Speaker 1: That might be the best in play called map Patricia
- 55:51Speaker 1: this year. All on an air half right. I had
- 55:54Speaker 1: shotgun staff, kitar a bush timing for the right, goes
- 55:56Speaker 1: a long ball left that fat in the ampson. It's
- 55:58Speaker 1: gonna be fine, cold back quarter touch down, Las Vegas.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Marcus Jones, you gotta go to the cube. I don't
- 56:07Speaker 1: think it. He covered for the Patriots. The play will
- 56:10Speaker 1: be reviewed and here is after I'm going to play
- 56:14Speaker 1: the run on the field. Fansite roll down a third
- 56:20Speaker 1: and ten three seconds left, Jones will give it the
- 56:22Speaker 1: steam Ons and he started right. He runs it up
- 56:24Speaker 1: the middle. Hit my Chandler. Jones slips. They had across
- 56:25Speaker 1: the Polly five for the ship, far off the tack
- 56:28Speaker 1: up the Corty. He lost the football and Jacob me
- 56:30Speaker 1: Buyers picks it up. He circles back and he throws
- 56:32Speaker 1: it across the field. Rid my god, he picked up
- 56:34Speaker 1: my Chanler jokes. He breaks away to the thirty. He
- 56:37Speaker 1: runs to the twenty. He run from the tad. He
- 56:40Speaker 1: runs for the end. Joe on the three touchdown raters Tony.
- 56:50Speaker 1: This might be one of the dumbest teams I've ever seen,
- 56:55Speaker 1: and a victory for launched Vegas. Hey pat Fans, I'm

- 57:23Speaker 1: all day dot com. And I got to assume that
- 57:26Speaker 1: that play from the other night will probably be a
- 57:29Speaker 1: digital moment at some point. Did you come up with
- 57:32Speaker 1: a name for it yet? Forget um? I had flow
- 57:35Speaker 1: come up for the name. I thought I had fail
- 57:38Speaker 1: Fail Mary fail lateral, that's Mary. Well, it wasn't a
- 57:43Speaker 1: hail Mary, I know, but the fail Mary's seattle right
- 57:48Speaker 1: from that that ref scabs game a few years ago.
- 57:52Speaker 1: I remember that. Yeah, yeah, all right, well Fred had
- 57:56Speaker 1: to duck out important business. We don't take anyone was
- 57:58Speaker 1: talking about this game anymore. I don't blame him. He
- 58:00Speaker 1: put it. He pushed the mic away and stormed off.
- 58:02Speaker 1: So you're you're stuck with Deuce whole hosting here, started
- 58:05Speaker 1: mumbling things about the offense, wasn't I didn't know what
- 58:09Speaker 1: he was talking about. I was sitting there going, I
- 58:12Speaker 1: can't wait to say no, no, no, no, no freends
- 58:14Speaker 1: right when ever didn't really defend Fred, I was like, okay,
- 58:17Speaker 1: I must be right. I was. I wasn't in the
- 58:19Speaker 1: mood to get into it, but yeah, I I just
- 58:22Speaker 1: it's been the same offense. It's been the same mistakes
- 58:24Speaker 1: it's been I wanted to though, I wanted just to
- 58:26Speaker 1: do this to Evan. Evan, how about that sequence though,
- 58:28Speaker 1: when they got down to the to the two yard line,
- 58:31Speaker 1: Why did you want to do that just because of
- 58:33Speaker 1: that look on your face that I just wanted to
- 58:34Speaker 1: see you and have you okay, so angry and walk
- 58:37Speaker 1: us through. That's a far bigger problem. That sequence is
- 58:39Speaker 1: a far bigger problem than the last player. That's why
- 58:41Speaker 1: I bring it up. I don't want to break down
- 58:45Speaker 1: like the actual XS and nose of what they called.
- 58:48Speaker 1: It's what they didn't call to me, the fact that
- 58:52Speaker 1: this team, well, first and goal from the two yard line,
- 58:57Speaker 1: get the cornerback under center and run the damn ball
- 59:01Speaker 1: into the end zone. Like I don't understand that. I
- 59:03Speaker 1: don't even care if you want I would do that.
- 59:05Speaker 1: I agree, just run the ball. I don't care if
- 59:07Speaker 1: you want to do it out a shotgun that they've
- 59:10Speaker 1: tried doing it. There's no way stopped. Stevenson's not getting
- 59:13Speaker 1: into the end zone if you give it to him
- 59:15Speaker 1: three times. So they ran it from the gun on
- 59:18Speaker 1: first or second down, I can't remember off the top
- 59:21Speaker 1: of my head. And he almost Mac Jones thought he
- 59:23Speaker 1: was in Well Mac Jones does that on every handoff
- 59:25Speaker 1: inside the five. But but you understand what I'm like,
- 59:28Speaker 1: he gained he gained a yard at least he got
- 59:31Speaker 1: inside the one. Yeah, just do the same play. They're
- 59:34Speaker 1: not stopped. They were not stopping. So what was surprising
- 59:37Speaker 1: to me? And it goes back to a few this
- 59:40Speaker 1: is now more than a few years ago. I remember
- 59:42Speaker 1: after that Denver game in the playoffs when Von Miller
- 59:46Speaker 1: and DeMarcus Warett just destroyed Brady and they lost. And
- 59:48Speaker 1: think it's twenty and fifteen season, and Dante's Karnekia after
- 59:53Speaker 1: the game said something along the lines of if you
- 59:58Speaker 1: can't get because there was a play in the game
- 59:59Speaker 1: where if they had picked up a first down I
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: think they would have been in good shape or would
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: have water or whatever. If you can't pick up two
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: yards running the football, then you're you're no good as
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: an offense. Like if you can't if you can't just
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: turn and pick up two yards on the ground, then
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: then you're in trouble. And it comes back to also
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: the lack of a fullback on this team. So you
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: don't have a fullback on the roster fine, put an
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: extra offensive lineman on the field, convert one of the
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: defensive guys like you used to do with Vrabel and
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Seymore back in the day to okay, rip up Seymour's knee,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: doing it right to just on the goal line in
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: short yardage. I'm not asking you to do that as
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: like the Landed Roberts thing from a few years ago.
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: But the fact that they insist on spreading the field
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: from inside the two yard line and they don't just
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: put Mac under center and turn it over to your
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: best offensive player and Remandre Stevenson and pound the football
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: into the end zone is how you get all of
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: this disorganization because now you're trying to passing concepts from
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: in tight and it's the space is not there, and
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: you're trying to get it all buttoned up and it's
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: a mess. Like just run the damn ball. How bad
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: did Mac miss JOHNU on that one? Like what happened there?
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: Because he I mean he had John Smith in the back, Okay,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: to completely excuse Mac, I think Johnny Smith stopped Arount.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: To be honest with you, he stumbled like everything involving
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: him never looks right, you know how? I said, Like
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: that play to taekwon tho it and on the third
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: that was the only play that I thought looked right. Yeah,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: that's a player just like I agree with Evan, like
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: it didn't look like he did what he was supposed
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: to do or was where Zack was supposed to be.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: It's so weird to see an FFL player that I
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: would say is not a great athlete. But it's like
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: he's a tremendous athlete, but he's just not smooth. It
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: doesn't make any sense. I guess that's the line. Um.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I will say this, is it possible that everything that
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: you know timing wise just got thrown off by the
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: bump because I was actually I was surprised he didn't
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: get called for in a fan it's on that play. Yeah,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: as he trucked a guy that that That's the way
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: that I saw it was that it was more of
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: like a timing route thing than all these people posting
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: it and being like Mac Jones missed a wide open receiver.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I agree with you. I don't think it was. Yeah,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: And but the one thing I will say about macause
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: he's not like you go thirteen twenty thirty one or
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: whatever the hell it was, which is his career low
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: I believe in completion rate in the game, and this
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: was the fewest yards he threw he threw in a
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: game outside of the Buffalo win game one hundred and twelve,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: So second few is in his career in a game.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: So because he had sixty with like five minutes left
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: in the game. So this was a very bad statistical
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: game for the quarterback as well. I would say that
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: the number one thing that I see with Mac on
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: this film is not necessarily like I felt like all
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: he missed, you know, ten open receivers, Like he's looking
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: in the wrong places. Where's he going here? Where is
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: he going there? Mechanically he's broken. They've broken him mechanically,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: and I think it stems from the pressure and then
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: the timing of the whole offense being off as well.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: But he's not throwing from a good bass, so his
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: feet are really close apart, and when you do that,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: you don't come through the football the way that you should.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: So his front shoulder is flying open, his feet are
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: like basically on top of each other, and he's kind
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: of just shot putting it at this point, and that's
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: why you're seeing the ball sail on him a lot
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: like those two outs on towards the sideline sailed it.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: He sailed to one up the seams the first couple
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: of the first couple pass. Yes, those two those two
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: outs were like horrifically bad. Yeah, it's all mechanically. He
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: is totally incompletely broken. Yeah, I agree with you about
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: the pressure too. And I I'm gonna be like Evan here,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna sound like an apologist and not really mean
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: to be. But I wonder even on that play to
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: Smith in the end zone, like a little bit of pressure,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: you might you might say that, like, well there's a
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: little timing issue because he gets clucked up, and maybe
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: Mac just said I can't afford to give him another
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: split second here because I won't have that time. Well,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Max Crosby was beating Connor McDermott, you know, and maybe
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: he looks at that was like, I just gotta, I gotta,
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: I gotta throw it a little bit before I want to.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna air on the side of caution. So if
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: the worst thing that happens is what happens, you know,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: we live to fight another day. You know, I'm gonna
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: throw it a little bit too far to the outside
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: so it can't get intercepted, which is why I thought
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: the decision on the slants to Agilo was really bad
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: because that play could have resulted in a similar Malcolm
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Butler thing, right, did you write that? I think you
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: wrote that. Which one Thornton off on the on the
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: quick slant to Aglare at the goal line, was that
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: I think Thornton was involved in this. No, the way
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: that I saw that one was that he threw it
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: first window right, so like on a like it's slant
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: flat right and then you have the first window and
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: then you're the second window is once he clears the
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: flat route and he threw it first window and he
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: threw a freaking rocket right at Nelson Aguilar's face. But
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: I thought that coverage on that play was good. Yeah,
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: I thought twenty one Robertson I think was I just
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: don't think that Nelson Aglar was really ready for the ball.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: And but I think the main thing with Mac that
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: did I see is mechanical, which is that you know,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: like I was saying, his bass, he's not throwing from
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: a good bass, and everything for quarterback starts with your
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: feet right, like it's feet hips, shoulders, eyes like those
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: are the sort of checkpoints that you have to have.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: And his feet are totally off because he's not trusting
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: that he can step up into the pocket and really
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: have that weight transfer, and because of that, all of
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: his throws are going high. I got got the phone
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: stacked up. I got one more question for you, Evan
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: before up, because you were there and it hard to
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: see on the TV with the mac kind of post
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: snap getting frustrated, pumping the side. Did you get any impression, Well,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: what was your impression of that in the building, of
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: his kind of just emoting. I guess because I know
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: Bdard was all over it. I mean I saw a
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: couple of things, but I'm up and down, so I
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: didn't see about But but what was your impression. I
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: thought it was worse in Arizona. Yes, I thought it
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: was worse in Arizona than it was with the Raiders.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: But I got to be honest with you, A lot
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: of that type of stuff you actually see more a
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: bit on TV because they get the camera on him right,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: Whereas when you're at the game, you're just kind of
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: taking notes and doing, you know, kind of getting ready
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: for the next You're like generally like you're writing, so
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: like that's why I think you miss a lot of
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: in between play stuff and that's when that happens. And
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: Wilmore actually talked about it a little bit like he
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: was still upset when he went over for the time
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: out after the touchdown that got taken away to Myers
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: and now that's that's not helping. Now, Okay, I get it.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: You're mad, you're frustrated, you know, split second, but now
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: you're over on the sideline and you're going over ostensibly
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: what you're gonna be doing, and you're still ranting a
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: little bit. Yeah, settle down, figured out. Then you go
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: back out in the fourth down, you're demonstratively waiving the
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: field goal team off to which is something that almost
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: every quarterback does. All right, you haven't met a quarterback
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: that doesn't want to go forth down, No problem offensive coordinator, right,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: no problem with that, not here, but no problem with
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: wanting to go for it and fourth down and showing
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: the sideline out. No, no, we got this. Then they
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: have to call it time out and it's again like
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: you're at the room, push let in the field. Well,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: then you go out there and you're all jacked up
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: and then you call for the snap before the guy
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: is set right. I have to say that with the
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Mac outburst, first of all, from a big picture standpoint,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: I totally understand why he's frustrate because this is too
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: This is his career that's going down the tubes, right,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: It's it's his career. He's the one that we're saying
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: was thirteen for thirty one. He's the one that looks
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: bad on film. Like, I totally understand it, but I
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: I wonder at what point And and Bill is a
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: very stoic sideline guy for them. He gets pissed off
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: at the rafts, don't get me wrong, But for the
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: most part, he's a very stoic guy. But I wonder
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: at one point he has like a Bill O'Brien moment
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: with Mac during the game and be like, Mac, don't
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: we all want that? Andy, Like you know what I mean,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Bill O'Brien to come back more for that than even right,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: and just sort of tell him like settle the f down, Yeah, right,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: because this goes in college. They used to call him
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Mac and right. Nick Saban used to call him Mac
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: and Rush. So this is in him, right, This this
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: kind of teapot, like they used to call Bill O'Brien,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: this is in him and they had I think the
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: only way is to your point about Bill O'Brien is
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: like the only way to combat it is to fight
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: fire with fire, like Matt Patricia just being like that's
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: not gonna do it, Like you have to get in
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: his face and be like, you know, we got to
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: shut the hell up. All right, let's let's jump over
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: the phones. We got Ben from Pittsfield's been hanging on
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: for a while. Hey, Ben, thanks for calling in. Ben,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: good job, Hardy. Then are you there? He did, He
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: was holding for a while, so my apologize. Ben called back,
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: if you can, let's go up to Rashot in Baltimore,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: har Shot. What's going on? Hey, what's up? What's up?
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: I have to say? All right, So as I was
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: watching the game as it got the half time, it
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: was thirteen three, and then I thought of what Mike said.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Mike was like, you know the Raiders, they usually have
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: a lead and then they give it up. He was like,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: that's where we want them. So I'm like, all right,
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: we got them right wherever we want them. So you know,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: we get to pick now I'm gonna just fast forward
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: to the two minute drive that that drive that the
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Patriot head like before the Raiders got the ball. I'm like, really,
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: this is this is the three plays that we have
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: and we took up no time, no time, like I know,
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: I like the Jacobe toss back like that was dumb
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: like it was that was that was the That was
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: the dumbest play I've ever seen. But that two minute
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: drive that was brutal. That was brutal. It was brutal
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: drive to know where. Yeah, thanks for sho. I appreciate it. Um, yeah,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: still still feeling it. Um. Do you think that this
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: game's gonna carry over? Do you think that this is
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: gonna linger? I mean, it's just anything. I mean, are
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: they are they done? Well? I think they're done because
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: of the opponents they play, But that's but do you
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: think it how? I mean, I guess the question is,
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: like I expect how much fight are they going to
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: have left in them against three teams that are all
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: dropped for playoff position, that need wins and that certainly
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: have no love lost for the Patriots and would like
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: nothing more than to, you know, come in here beat
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: the Patriots again. I mean I could make an argument
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: on both sides for that, Like, if I were Buffalo,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: I'd rather have the Patriots in the playoffs than the alternatives.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: Oh sure, light, I mean, this is a team that
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: they've handled, and you know they have their handsful with Miami.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: They have their handsful with the Jets every time they
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: play them. Casey, you know, I would much rather if
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: I had, If I had my choice to be kingmaker,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: and I'm Sean McDermot that last game. Now, obviously you're
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: gonna take care of yourself. If you need that win
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: to clinch the number one seed, for sure, you're gonna
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: win the game. You're gonna try to win the game.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: But if I haven't, you know, let's say they lose.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Let's say that Buffalo loses at Cincinnati next week and
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: Kansas City has three three games that they really should win.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: So now you're a game behind, and maybe Buffalo said says, well,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna be the two seed. Who's going to be seven?
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Would I rather play Miami or the Patriots or Jacksonville
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: or Herbert in the charge Jacksonville. I think if Jacksonville
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: makes the playoffs, they're gonna have to be the division winner.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: They're gonna overtake tennis, right I think. I mean, yeah,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: I'm sure there's a mathematical chance that they have of
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: making a wild card. But and I say it only
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: half in jest, because I think that Buffalo will try
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: to win their games. I thought, I don't think they'll
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: be rolling over in that last game because I really
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: don't see a scenario that they don't need to win
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: the game. Yeah, you know, because I don't think kids
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: the city is gonna lose, and I think Buffalo is
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: gonna win enough. They're gonna win at least one game.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I think they could lose that Cincinnati in two weeks.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: Did that ever really happen for the Patriots? I mean,
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: there were so many times where they were like having
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: to decide if they wanted to play starters. At the
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: end of the season, things are already clinched that they
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: specifically chose. Evan might remember this because this is going
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: to be the height of like your like sort of
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: childhood fandom. The year that they lost on purpose to
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: Miami so they could play Jacksonville in the wildcard game.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: I think it was six oh five, oh six somewhere
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: in that they they could be it was the game
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: that they made Matt Castle airmailed a two point conversion
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: so they wouldn't tie the game at the end against
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: Miami in a meaningless last game. But that was because
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: they wanted to play Jacksonville in a wild card. Yeah.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: I was at that game. I think McGinnis brook the
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: sack record Jacksonville. And it was so cold that we
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: were all drinking hot chocolate. And I was probably like
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: twelve or thirteen, and in that hot shot, my uncle,
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: who was hammered, handed me the Schnops hot chocolate instead
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: of the real hot chocolate. And I took a sip
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: of it. And my sister was with me at the game,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: and I turned to her and I was like, jackson
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: doesn't taste right that alcohol at it. It's awesome, it's twelve,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: but thirteen, did you keep it? I was still too
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: young at that point to even want to do that.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I was, I was adweep. I don't really see a
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: ton of examples where like you can just openly physically
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: see a team is not trying to win. And I
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: don't think that that will see that. I think the
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: Patriots will go into these games. They're gonna put a
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: game playing together, and they're gonna do their best. I
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: think if they fall behind, you're not gonna necessarily see
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: balls to the wall come back attempt. They're going to
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: be some business decisions being made. Like when they played
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: at Buffalo in the playoff game last year. You go
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: back and watch the second half, I can show, I can.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: I could circle four or five different individuals, and they're
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: not all players that are gone. By the way, I
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: know everybody likes to say jay Z Jackson made business choices.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: He did absolutely equit in the second half of that game.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: He wasn't alone. That's what happens when you no longer
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: think you have a chance, and now you don't have
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: a chance in this game. Let's make sure. Let's make
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: sure I don't have any offseason surgeries to worry about.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: You know, it gets well. That is an interesting question
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: to ponder. A Bill's team trying to lose against the
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Patriots offense trying to move the ball. What would happen?
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: We don't And that's the other thing, And I don't
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: trying to idiots. It's the other thing about the whole
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: you know, how was the offense? I don't mean to
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: pick on Fred now that he's not here to argue
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: with me. But you did face the thirty second ranked
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: defense back to back weeks, thirty first, thirty second, whatever,
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: you know, whatever category you want to go in Arizona,
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: and it didn't look any better. You good, one touchdown again,
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: like it's sorry, Like who you play counts? You know,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: like you face the worst red zone defense in football?
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Do you know the Raiders. I don't know if you
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: noticed this, ev it was a TV thing. That's the
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: first time that they did not allow a touchdown this
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: year when faced with a goal to ghost situation. I
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: saw a tweet of it. Never, not once did they
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: not allow a touchdown. Never, not once, And they did
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: allow two touchdowns actually, but the Patriots just wipe the
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: mat on their own right. You're welcome, Raiders. Let's go
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: back to the phone, Steve and Vermont. Hey, Steve, how
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: are you doing. I'm good? How are you good? Good?
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Thanks for calling in. Thanks a long time listener, first
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: time caller. I wanted to say, you guys do an
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: awesome job. I appreciate listening to you every week. I
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: felt like I had to call in today because we
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: are at the absolute worth I've seen in the history
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: of being a fan. I'm watching every game since ninety two,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: every game of the Blitzow and Brady era, and where
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: our coaching staff has gotten to at this point, it's
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: just terrible. It's you know, we've had worse results, but
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: this is the worst coaching performance I've seen from this
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: team in all my years as a fan, especially on
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: the offensive side. They just can't do anything right. I
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: did have a question for Evan. Evan on catch twenty two.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: You guys are talking about a offensive formations they used
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: where they had Pierre Strong, Jack Jones, Taykwon Thornton, and
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: Nelson Aguilar with John U. Smith on the field to
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: get the most speed that they could. I might be mistaken,
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: but I think they started the game this week with
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: that poor I wanted to ask if you'd seen anything
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: knew that they had involved in that formation, and if
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: you thought there was any positive plays that came from
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: that formation. Yeah, thanks for the calls to I think
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: you met Marcus Jones. There a lot of Joneses. I
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: totally understand the confusion, but they did not run that
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: formation or that grouping nearly as much as they had
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: against Arizona, and this was my biggest fear with Jacoby
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: and potentially DeVante Parker coming back. I know everybody was
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: all up in arms about all the screens against Arizona,
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: and I actually wrote and after further review, that I
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: didn't really mind it because I liked where they were
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: headed with it right. I thought that they could build
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: some stuff off of it and make it a little
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: bit more creative and more explosive as they went. And
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: my big problem that I had with this game plan
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: this week is that they didn't do any of it
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: right like. And this is I think sometimes that I
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: think that they get And I wrote this at the time,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: and I said, don't get caught up in the game
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: plan stuff. Right You're not good enough right now to
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: change week to week based off of opponent and game
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: plan like you used to do with Brady. You're not
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: a conversation Mike and I had independent Paul saying similar
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: things to You're not good enough to morph week to
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: week into the best offense defensively. Sure, if you want
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: to run more man than zone one week zone, then
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: man blitz less more or whatever, Yeah, totally go go
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: crazy with the game plan. But for this offense right now,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: they need to find like a core set of plays
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: that they can execute consistently that puts guys in a
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: position to succeed, that gets some of their playmakers some opportunities,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: and just stick with it. And I thought this week,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: all of a sudden, now they're they're trying to run
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: downfield concepts again. Whereas last week everything was short. Now
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: everything's down the field. Now next week it's going to
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: be short again. It's like this is all over the place.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: And if they had played the same offense that they
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: did against Arizona, then I don't think you go thirteen
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: for twenty thirty one because you're throwing the ball five yards,
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: so you're going to complete more of the passage. Well,
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: that to me was what was striking about the thirteen
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: for thirty one is like their offense isn't you know,
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: they should build a complete passage, right, I mean they
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: don't throw a ton of you know that they threw
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: a handful in this game for sure, And Nevin talked
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: about some of the misses, um, but yeah, you shouldn't.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: You shouldn't expect to have that with with the amount
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: of short stuff that they throw, especially like on long
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: yardage place like that you were complaining about earlier. You know,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: it's third and fourteen. If you don't complete that pass,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: you know, when you're throwing it underneath, I mean, if
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: you're throwing it beyond the sticks. Yeah, okay, yeah, that's
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: that's a hard completion, no you Yeah, they and I
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: just looked and Marcus Jones he had eight snaps against
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Arizona on offense and only two in this game. Yeah,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: and one of them was in the red zone where
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: they had them minute running back essentially. One of them
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: was in the the goal to go to know, there's
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: only time they were in the red zone. So but yeah,
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: they I noticed that they played Marcus less and I
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: think that that's a big reason why is because he
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: had to play so much on d He played every
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: play on defense and I you know, to go to
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: the last defensive drive as well. Eventually, you know, Marcus Jones,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: Miles Bryant, Jonathan Like, it's a very small group of corners, right,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: very small, And so how do they lose? They lost
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: at the catch point, right, Like they lost on the
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: play that was sort of like a fifty fifty ball
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: in the back of the end zone. But yeah, I
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: in my head when he said that they ran that
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: a lot of was like, I think Marcus the only
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: played two offensive snaps, so they didn't really and uh,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: it just it just goes back to this week. There
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: ten yards per attempt, air yards per attempt, average depth
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: of the targets ten yards. Last week it was like
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: a little bit under five. Do you get like sort
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: of do you get the impression that they pay too
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: much attention to the midweek narratives? Like there was a
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: huge hue and cry about that it was like four
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: yards right, It was like four yards right. They threw
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: all screens and everybody was like, what are you doing? Man, Yeah,
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: let's show them. I'm gonna do it this way next week.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: I think what they saw with this Raiders secondary, the
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: Raiders secondary and the Raiders defense came in thirty second
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: in the league in DV away against the Past, and
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: I think that they thought that they were gonna be
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: able to throw on them. That's what I And now
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: one drive that they put together that led up to
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: the goal line sequence, they did make some throws down
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: the field on them, and they just they kept on
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: trying to do it and all the screen stuff that
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: everybody was complaining about the week before completely went by
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: the west the wayside, And I understand why people get
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: annoyed by the screens on like third and ten, right
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: when you're that you're waving the white flag. But this
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: team cannot execute on first and second down consistently enough.
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: But they can they can execute screens like they can
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: they run some good screens. I don't think they're great
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: at it. I gotta be honest with you, Like, even
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: in this game, there was the play I keep talking about,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: the one stupid play because I'm an idiot, and I
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: get excited by the one play that looks like NFL offense.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: The two plays that preceded the incut to Taekwon Thoroten.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: We're both like, I'm gonna have to go back and
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: look to see if they're actually screens or just check checkdowns,
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: and they get blown up like that's why it was
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: third and eleven because they completed two passes there for nothing. Yeah,
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: you know, And well, I think the biggest thing to it.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: Most of the time, when you when you try to
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: screen teams, it seems that blitz and it seems that
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: play zone, right because when you're playing zone, you fall
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: out of it, and then you're all of a sudden,
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: you're you guys are dropping to depth and you're you're
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: coming off the line of scrimmage and then and then
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: you can set up the blocks and stuff like that.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: The Raiders played a lot of Man on Monday or Sunday,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: excuse me, So my guess is that they said the
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: screens aren't going to work against man because somebody's assigned
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: to the running back right right through. But I think
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: that it's, you know, all the mystery. They had those
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: eight snaps of Marcus Jones against Arizona or they're motioning him,
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: they're running misdirection plays and they're running screens to him,
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: and they're building off the screen to him, and like
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: that was complimentary offense, right, Like so we're gonna show
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: you the screen, he's gonna take it for twelve yards,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: and the next play he's gonna motion like it's the screen,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: but we're actually gonna hit you over here. Like that's
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: that's how you sequenced together plays. And this this offense
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: that they ran on Sunday was just disjointed in the matter.
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: And that sequence was it's first and ten from the
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: twenty four past short left to Pierre Strong minus two.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: Now I think it was a screen. It may not.
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: It may have been a check There was one where
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: they ran slam flat and I think it's this one
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: where Mac through that was minus two, and then the
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: next play is passionate left to Stevenson for one. Again,
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: I can't tell you whether that one was a screen.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: I can't tell you where the first one was a
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: hand on the bible that there was screens. They may
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: have just been checkdowns or swing whatever. But my point
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: is the passes at well behind the line of scrimmage.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: I don't think they've had a tremendous amount of success,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: which certainly not if you take away that Marcus Jones touchdown. Okay,
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: but so this game, right and I know we're getting
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: on a tangent about the screens right now. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: that's not not really the point. This game they ran
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: for two hundred yards, right, which I I you know,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: this was their best running game of the year in
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: terms of production. But for the most part, they don't
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: run the football. They have not been running the football
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: very well, and against Arizona they averaged four and a
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: half yards per screet, so it wasn't great production. It
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: wasn't like they averaged ten but four and a half.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: It's replacing your running game, is you're right, and without Stevenson? Yeah,
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: I mean, I mean you could sell me on that.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: You could sell me on that. So yeah, I'm not
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: completely let's jump over the phone's speed fresnop has gone
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Hey bad. I'm very bothered, but still yeah, I think
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: the thing that I'm bothered most by, I'm sorry I
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: missed the beginning of the shows that you'd already talked
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: about it, but the fact that it was Jakobe Myers
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: that got caught up with the dumb play. It's frustrating
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: because I know his dad listens to show I just
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: like he deserves him support. He's been, um, pretty rock
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: solid player. He's like he consistently plays at his ceiling,
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: which is gonna get you down the field, but not
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: into the end zone. So it's like frustrating when he lost,
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: you know, the chance to have that touchdown. That was
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: like the most Jacobe Myers thing. When he loses an
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: opportunity to touchdown would have been easy if it was Nelson.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: It's the least Jacobe Myers thing when he throws that,
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: you know, gumass pass. So I just I don't know.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: I just wanted to send good bods at the Myers
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: is because he's he's been great and I really I
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: really liked him, and I don't know the sad that
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: he that that he is going to be remembered for
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: something like that. Yeah, fuck I hear, especially if he
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: leaves in free thanks to be appreciate it. Yeah, that's
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: why people got rid of them. Yeah, can't make that mistake.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: It does suck though, I mean, and like I said,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: I mean, unfortunately if it was Nelson Agiler, everyone that
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: just like and it just sucks because everybody he has
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: such good will to Joe Jacoby Myers, one of the
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: few players who's improved and done everything you've asked of
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: him and come through with big catches when you don't
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: have a lot of guys can do it. Because like,
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: I'm so far removed from that, Like I would definitely
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: like if I was like not working here and I
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: was like twenty year old Paul like season ticket holder
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: like I was, I would totally look at it that
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: way and say, I wish it was like Aglo the
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: one guys that I don't really love, you know, I
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: really like Myers and it hates what I but like
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: now I'm just like kid like my team did something
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: stupid with the game in the lot. I don't care
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: who did it. Yeah, you know, but I don't know.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: I just it's definitely a valid thing. You'd rather have
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: it be a guy that you didn't love, Yeah, but
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: it's I mean, in some ways it's just appropriate because
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: as much as you love the guy, the team has
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: just not been good this year, and he's part of
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: that team, And as much as you don't want him
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: to be and you want him to, you know, earn
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: another contract here and do well, It's it's not that easy.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: I think it's appropriate because they even broke Jacoby, like
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: he's probably the smartest guy on the offense, honestly, and
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: this has been such a an absolute object disaster on offense,
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: and we finally have gotten to the point where Ramandre
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: and Jacoby, the two guys that we thought were safe,
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: are finally broken as well. A good job. Let's go
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: out to Patty and Agawam, Hey Patty, how are you doing? Hey? Guys?
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: Let me take out well, I actually no, I'll keep
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: you on speaker. I'll probably hear me better. So I
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: was going to go on a little bit of a ramp. Butudge,
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: while I was unfold, I thought of a hypothetical question.
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: So I'll just throw that out at you. Let's just say,
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: prior to the season starting, they went outside, you know,
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: outside of Bill's friends of Belichick and hired an offensive
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: coordinator and we still had the same results. Do you
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: think that guy would still be working right now or
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: do you think Bill would have gotten rid of him
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: like weeks ago? Right now? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I think
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: he'd still be employed now. I don't know if he
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: would be employed next year, but I don't think he
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: would have fired. I don't think that's Bill style to
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: like Samod hasn't been fired. I don't think guys are
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: getting fired. That's your guy point. I mean, I think
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: the special teams have been really bad for two years. Yeah, no,
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: I don't. I mean with a game or two exception
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: here or there, like the Jets game. You know they
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: won a game on a punt return, you know, Marcus
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: Jones won a game. Yeah, that's how I would look
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: at it. I tend to be a little negative that
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: I would look at it as Marcus Jos blocking was
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: good too. I made a playfair Yeah, and Nick Folk
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: has been really consistent seen which I don't really count
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: as special teams. As you also knew. They made a
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: few mistakes here and there defensively and got called for penalties.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: But for the life of me and the Belichick era,
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever seen a team so undisciplined
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: and doesn't it seems like they're not ready when they
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: come out. Um, even I mean even after the first
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: few weeks, when it seems like they would come out
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: the first drive of the game and the drive after
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: halftime and be able to put something together. I mean,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: they're not even doing that now. No, yeah, it's worse. Yeah, yeah, yeah, baby,
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: thanks Patty. I do think we should like defensively, they
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: they're a well coached defense. Yeah, they're well coached defense.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: They some of the stuff that they run, like some
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: of the simulated pressures and the different zone drops and
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: stuff that they do, Like, you can't do that unless
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: you know what you're doing. You know, do you do
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: you have an issue with how much they're dropping shoot
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: on do you think that that is worth um, you know,
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: forcing him to get attention and then dropping him out
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: and kind of saying, ha ha, we got you. But
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: is it is it really worth it? I mean, don't
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: you do you need him? I mean, he's he's obviously
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: not putting up the same production the last few games
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: that he did early in the season. Is it is
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: it worth it to drop him out for those scheme
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: add it kind of twists. I like the decoy, I do.
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: I like the decoy. It's like, you know, if you
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: had Randy Moss and they're doubling him, then you use
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: them as a decoy and you you know, hit them
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: someplace else, right, Like, it's the same thing, just the
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: defensive equivalent. I like the decoy, but I think the
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: the issue that it presents is that past ushing his
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: rhythmic right. It's like you gotta get on they call
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: him like sequences or um, you know, different scripts. Set
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: him up right where you're set him up for the
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: bull rush for cha, Well, you actually start with the
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: bull chas foundational move is the long arm right bullrush.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Long arm. So he's speed to power, long arm, pushed
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: the tackle. So he does that, does it again, He
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: does it again, He does it again, and then the
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: fourth time turns the corner right's straight speed rush or
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: ghost move right where he shows it and then lets
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: it go. Those are things that go over that's the
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: chess match over the course of the game. So the
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: problem that you have with dropping Jude on and they
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: dropped him nine times in this game, mostly on third down.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: The problem that you have is that when you get
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: into that final drive and you need a rush, like
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: you just need somebody to make a play up front,
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: he's out of it right and so now there's no setup,
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: there's nothing else for him to go to. So that's
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: where it becomes a problem is when you absolutely need
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: to play late in the game and your best player
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: on defense can't come up with it. I think it
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: goes back to the fact that he's really been in
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: and out of the rush the entire game. Yeah, how
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: about like on that last drive, I read your favorite scribe,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Greg Bdard, breaking down talking about chipping the tight ends,
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: which they had done, you know throughout the game. Do
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: you need to do that in that last drive or
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: as Greg sort of opined, do you kind of invite that,
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: like if they want to throw something, you know, maybe
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: across the middle, it's going to take a lot of
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: time off the clock. Isn't that what you're hoping, you know,
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: provided you don't get up like a thirty yard on
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: the scene, which they did. Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of different ways to look
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: at it. And I never really thought of it the
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: way that Evan just talked about. It's hard to ask
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: Matt Judon to do one thing and then and say, Okay,
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: now it's time to close the game out, get after
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: the passion when he hasn't really had a chance to
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: sort of wear down the guy blocking him all game.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: And I wonder how you know just how Judon feels,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: because I mean, there certainly is the aspect here if
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: you got to take one for the team. But at
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: the same time, the average fan is going to look
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: at the stats and say, half he did it again,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: doing it again, and you know, and it's not entirely fair.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: But at the same time, the coaching staff has to
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: know that, you know, you need like this is this
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: was the problem. He just couldn't close the game out,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: you know, so maybe a better plan. I just I
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: think they're a good defense, and I think Paul even
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: you said, you know that they seem better than last year. Um,
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: you know, I just I do have some hope on
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: that side of the ball. I met in this game.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: I thought they were better overall this game this year.
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: I don't neither. I just think that they generally. This
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: was the first and I know that they haven't been
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: a good offense, but I still look at the personnel
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: when I say they got the pieces, were a good offense.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: They should be better offensively than they have been. And
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: I thought they made him look like a very average group.
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: I thought what Evans said about Josh Jacobs, he ran
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: wild in the first half. They clamped it down and
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: a lot of people were like McDaniel's idiot got away
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: from Josh. No he didn't. They ran eight times for
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: twenty three yards. They shut him down in the second half.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: That's why he didn't rush for as many yards in
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: the second half, because the Patriots were much better on
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: run defense in the second half. I thought the game
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: played on defense was awesome because what they did. I
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: thought they played well in this game defensively. I thought
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: it was it was better than what I've seen. Yeah,
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: I think what they tried to do is and they
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: came out in all those two high shells, so they're
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: playing too high and they're saying, we're just gonna give
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: up some yards on the ground. But what it did
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: is it got the Raiders passing game out of sink, right,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: because they were running the ball more, and then they
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: were when they were passing, they were passing it into numbers. Right,
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: they're passing into seven to eight guys in coverage. And
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: the simulated pressures, you know, to Mike's point about dropping
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: Jude on, those were working the entire game. I mean,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: Bentley had five, i think four or five quarterback pressures
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: in this game by blitzing up the middle. And you
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: watch it and you see, you know, Jermaine a loom
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: or setting towards Jude on the left guard. Excuse me,
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: the right guard is taking the tackle and then and
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: then it just parsed the red seas for the guy
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: coming up the middle. Met McMillan had another one later
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: in the game too, on the similar, similar scheme. But
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: I think the issue for me was that they tried
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: it one too many times. They tried it again on
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: the Keeling Coal touchdown, and it was like finally the
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: Raiders got it blocked right, like they finally knew what
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: it kind of had an answer to it, so eventually
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: you have to have something else. And I agree with
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: you on the plan. Mike and I were talking about it.
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: There was I would say maybe a half dozen occasions
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: where a car got back on his back foot and
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: just stood there and looked around, and I was like, Wow,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: they must have those zones flood like you can't see
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: on TV. They must have those zones flooded, and he
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: must have no pockets. Now, I think that sort of
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: to you a point, threw them out of sync. But
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: I also think a huge play in the game was
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: the first drive Marcus Jones. He's got him wide open
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: and he throws it over the wrong shoulder and allows
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: Marcus Jones to get back and ball to the play
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: that should have been a touchdown. Like he's got to
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: just lead him to this. No one there, there's no safety.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: I don't think was there a safety on the other
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: side of the field. It's quarters and this is like
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: the dangerous part. Like everybody is like when you call,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: when you say something's quarters, something's cover three, everybody's like, well,
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: it's zone. It is zone. But on the outside it's man.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's man like it's you're you're matched up right,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: like you're not, regardless of how you're getting to it
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: on the outside, you're playing single coverage. That just is
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: the way it is. So they ran like post cross
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: which is like a common play action concept, and the
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: safeties jumped the crosser and they left the deep post unleveraged. Now,
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: this is the exact same play that Jason mccordy made
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl against the Ramps. So the backside
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: corner should be the one that helps over the top
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: for the for the post, right, because they're running the
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: crosser away from him, so there's nobody coming into his
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: own so he's just covering grass. Yeah. Now I would
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: say the difference between those two plays is the one
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: of the Super Bowl is in the end zone and
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Cooks couldn't run any further. Yeah, he's sort of walked.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: Gared Goff was ten minutes too late and that I
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: think this was just a bad throw and I think
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: you might look at the rest of the game much
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: differently if you're the Raiders if you hit that, which
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: I think it's I think Marcus Jones did a great
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: job of closing like he should. You guys don't need
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: to have me tell you how much I love Marcus Jones.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: I think his closing speed was incredibly impressive on that play.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: You look at the replay, they probably should have been
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: a touchdown anyway, it should have been like it was
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: a missed opportunity. And I think that changes the whole
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: complexion of like anything that the Patriots wanted to do defensively,
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: if it involves a seventy yard touchdown or if a
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: sixty yard touchdown, whatever the case was, heads you might not.
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: You might say, if we do that, we're gonna leave
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: ourselves susceptible to that. And what was your big thing, Mike,
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: what was your big key going into the game? The
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: big plays? Okay, how many times was Mac Hollins open?
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: Now I know it's Mac Collins, that's not I look at.
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: I focus on the DeVante Adams play because even with
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: the throw where it was, and even with Marcus Jones
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: getting back into the play, I think that was a drop.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: I think DeVante Adams has made that catch more often.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: I was stunned, So you're a point, Evan. I was stunned.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: And I think I'm not taking anything away from Marcus Jones.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: You want to give him a a PB. Absolutely, if
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: you want to give it to him, give it to him.
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: I think it's a drop, but only because of who
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: it is. Yeah, I don't know what every would say
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: to this, but when we were in Vegas, like mac
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: Collins was surprisingly like active to me and I and
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: that was coming even as I was blown away by
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: Adams and Renfrow and what they were doing. But I
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: just think, I'm like, he's getting a lot of looks.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: You can see if they had all of those guys
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: all year and he's like the fourth guy. Just that's
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: not bad. He was asked to be the second guy
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: all year. He's I think the Raiders haven't walked up
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: for a couple of years. But like that's the exact
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: kind of guy that Bill sides and everybody's like, oh,
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: nice little play that they signed here because he can play.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: He can play special teams, he can play on the receiver,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: He even down the punts inside the he get away
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: from that. He's there big offseason addition now, right, which
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: is a guy who works back. He's a guy who
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: works when you have Davante Adams, Yeah, he's he's like, uh,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: I don't know, see Kendrick Bourne or Nelson. Yeah, I
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: mean not the same style of player. He's probably not
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: as fast as Agalore, but that's him. Like he's a
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: complimentary piece if you have a he had the one
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: he had, the one where he got behind Jonathan Jones
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: that should have been a touchdown, that terrible overthrew. The
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: second one that I think you're talking about, the coverage
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: was was better than I think you're giving it credit for. No,
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: I'm just saying that he was in the clear and
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: the throw was on the wrong side. That's all there was.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: He was Yeah, because car there were like three d
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: the guy's going the going, the guy's going down the
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: field deep, and he's probably between the hashes. Yeah, and
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: the throw needed to be to the right hash, and
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: it was toward the left hash, which causes the guy
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: to sort of alter his route and gets him back
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: into coverage. Yeah. Like so now he's he's covered like
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: the Marcus Jones playing. Yeah, I think if he throws
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: that to the right hash, I don't care what closing
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: speed you had, you weren't gonna you were too far behind.
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: If he just could run to the ball right, that's
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: what was going to happen. The throw took him back
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: to the inside and allowed Marcus Jones to bother him. Yeah,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: those were those two plays. The one that mccollins got
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: behind Jonathan Jones later on in the game. Actually, there
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: was one that went off his hands that I think
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: it was in the drive before their game winning drive.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: I believe it was maybe or maybe it was the
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: game winning drive or game time drive. Excuse me, I
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: think it was. I think it was a deep ball
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: on that drive, on that drive that it could have
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: they could have gotten the tie touchdown on that plank
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: possession before when they have Adam streaking across the field
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: kind of uncovered, yeah, and Darren Waller reached up and
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: knocked out. Yeah. There were like seven guys that looked
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: like Patriots offense. We got two guys in the same spot.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: Well that and the only reason why it ended up
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: that way is because it was a scrambled drill, Like
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: the initial play was covered and they that pass. Yeah,
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: they were just trying to get open. Yeah, okay, hey,
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: but I think the that was sort of a lot
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: of the game plan in this game, and they finally
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: got burned up by it by on the keeling coal touchdown.
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: Was they knew that Mac Hollins and Keelan Cole, we're
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: gonna have a lot of space, right, Like they were
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: going to be one on one against guys, and they
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: were gonna have a lot of space because a lot
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: of the coverage was rotating towards Davante Adams obviously, which
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: I think was obviously a sound right, but it didn't
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: really burn them until the coal Touchdown's grab one more
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: call here Adam down in Pennsylvania. Hey Adam, what's going on? Hey? Everyone?
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: How they're going good? I've been better? Yeah, So let's
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: you know, I just want to go back to the
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: last play on Sunday, So just thinking back to that,
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: Like what struck me with the way that last play
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: played out was that, you know what happened was that
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: these guys they took the game into their own hands, right,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: the just said let's right out the clock and play
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: for OT. But Ramandre Stevenson, Jakobe Myers, they said, essentially,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: you know, we know better than our coaches, so let's
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: win it now, right, Like, let's try to end this
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: in regulation because we don't know what's going to happen
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: in OT And just thinking about it, you know it
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: just felt very desperate, And I think that's just one
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: of the most disappointing parts about that last place that
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: it fully demonstrated that these guys don't trust their coaches, right, Like,
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: we don't trust that our coaches know what's best for us.
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: We don't believe they can put us in a position
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: to win this game, so we need to try to
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: improvise and be the heroes ourselves, like, you know, they'd
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: rather chance it with laterals in a tie game than
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: take things to ot and just see what happens. And
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: you know, I know we harp on the good old days,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: you know, the dynasty, you know, but this would not
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: have ever happened in the past twenty years. You know,
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: no one would have ever questioned the play Paul, or
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: the game plan or the goal. And now it just
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: feels like these players are ready to go a wall
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: or off scrit to try to win a game because
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: they just don't have trust and the coaches that you
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: know that they can guide them to victory. So, you know,
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: that was just something that just kind of reflecting on
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: that play, it was just kind of a sobering thought
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: that came to mind that just watching these guys they
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: they just really don't trust the coaching and that that
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: play it just really fully embodies that. So I hope
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: they learned their lesson, you know, to trust their coaching
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: even if it's you know, not always perfect, but you know,
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: it potentially cost us a playoff spot. So I just
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: wanted to get your guys thoughts there and I'll take
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: it offline. Thanks. Thanks, Adam, appreciate the call. I mean,
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: flirting with what we were talking about little bit. I
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: just don't I just wonder how organic it wasn't. I mean,
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: this is something that like I love to ask romand
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: great unknown, right, like what did it just occur to
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Romandre as he was getting tackled? And you know, I
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: think Evan threw out like he thought maybe they were
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: closer and that Jacobe had a few yards to go.
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: But I still think it was spur of the moment,
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: Romandre throwing it back to Jacoby, and Jacoby just reacting
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: thinking all right, I guess this is what we're doing.
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: We're gonna start lateraling the ball right now without like,
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: you know, it's interesting you can out a chat before.
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: Do you think there was any kind of mention of
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: the word lateral prior to that play being called and run.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: And I don't not to pick on the collar, but
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: I don't think it's that deep. I don't think it's
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: that deep that they are like the coaching staff doesn't
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: know what it's doing, like in the maybe in the
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: sense of like now that they are sitting on a
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: Tuesday and reflecting on it, maybe they get there. But
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: like in the game, like in that moment, I don't
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: think that the thing that's popping through more Stevens's head
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: in that moment as he's running with the football in
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: an NFL game is you know what, Maddie Bee doesn't
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: know what the hell he's doing, so I'm just gonna
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: flip this ball to the job And would have to
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: be premeditated, right, And I agree with you, guys. I
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: don't think it was premeditated. I think it was something
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: that came about on the spur of the moment, like
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: they're trying to get Billy about the touchdown. And I
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: do think I like your theories, you guys. I like
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: your theories that like maybe he's thinking, well, you know,
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: I ran a draw, like I went like twenty five yard.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: I think he got like twenty You know, maybe he
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: did think I'm like inside the twenty, so I can
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: try it here, and then you know, what's the worst
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: that's gonna happen. It's like that it's gonna be like
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: eighty yards, but not realizing, oh wait a minute, I
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: only just got into Radors territory. Now I flip it
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: back to Myers, who throws it across the field, and
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: now we're running on our side of the field. So
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: if something bad happens, which did, it's not really that
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: that much of a stretch. Like if if if everybody's
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: in the same spot and you're twenty five yards further
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: and Chandler Jones catches it, he probably still goes for
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: a touchdown, but at least you have a chance to
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: chase him down. Your skill guys might be able to
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: chase him down, I mean forty five yards once he
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: once he pile drives ac Jones into the turf game
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: set match, there's nobody, No one would even had a
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: sniff to catch him. That was That was sort of
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: the gist of what I got from Remandre's perspective is
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: I think the worst thing that happened on that play
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: was Chandler Jones actually initially misses the tackle on Remandre,
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: and Remandre because the rest of the defense is in
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: pre event, there's nobody for another twenty yards, and I
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: think that he thought he was a lot closer to
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: the end zone right than he actually was. And to
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: your point, you said, I'm gonna lateral it to Jacobe,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: who's going to take it the rest of the way,
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: or he's just going to realize that there's nothing else,
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: there's nowhere else to go, and I'll go down and
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: we'll go to overtime. So I'm not trying to Remandre
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: is also to blame for starting the whole chain of events,
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: but I think that when he got loose a little bit,
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: I think that he thought to himself, oh, oh crap,
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: I'm I'm getting I'm getting there, like I'm getting there,
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: and you know what to do if you got there,
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: And that was sort of where it all started to
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: go wrong, and it like it was poor. It was
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: a poor plan like in all around. But it was
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: funny because I listened to Chandler Jones talking about it,
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: and he talked about missing the tackle. He was trying
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: to strip the ball, which is why he you know,
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: partly at least why he missed the tackle. I mean,
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: it happens all the time. But the whole Raiders defense,
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: they had to have eight guys inside there, twenty yeah,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: so like the fact that you go twenty Like I've
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: kind of heard some rumblings of this too, not a lot,
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: because everybody's so pissed off. No one's really looking at
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: the bright side. But well, he broke into the cli.
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: No he didn't. There were no Raiders defenders there, like
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: all the Raiders defenders were still to be beaten because
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: they were all playing for the hill Mary right and
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: the breaking into the clear. It was the worst thing
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: that happened, right in my mind, because at that point,
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: I think that to Vermandre, he thought to himself like
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: I think I'm only like twenty or thirty yards out
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: or maybe even less right, like maybe he thinks I
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: think he thought was closer than he was. Rightever, that
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: number is right, but I just think that there was
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: no on no planet did he think when he handed
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: that ball tossed it to Jacoby that Jacoby would do
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: what he did And I can't play him. His lateral
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: was really reckless, like he just flips it over his
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: head without looking it wasn't a fumble, but it was dangerous.
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: He threw it. He threw it over his head like
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: like almost like I mean, I'm not it's unfortunate, like
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Myers ends up getting picked off. He's looking, he sees Mac.
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: He's throwing it to Mac. He just didn't see Chandler Jones.
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: Which Chandler Jones is actually on the ground, correct, and
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: he got up pointed. Yeah, like this is the difference.
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: Like it was a like just a calamity of bad
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: luck and bad everything like Chandler Jones. There's not not
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: every defensive lineman in football has the ability to do
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: with channel with Jones did. I'm not telling you he's
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: the only one, because there's a lot of athletic defensive
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: ends in football. But he made that look ridiculously easy. Yeah,
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: getting up off the ground, high pointing the ball, stiff
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: arming Mac Jones and then just ram rumbling into the
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: end zone like look like a tight end. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: Max gotta make that tackle. Let's go down to Andrew
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: and Australia at least try by the face masks like
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: horse collar you do something and that that still shot, guys,
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: I can't look at its Christmas car sorry, Andrew, where
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: we're rambling on here? That wasn't That wasn't nice. But
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: I just said to me, what do you got Andrew? Hey,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: so first time caller, thanks very much for taking my call. Um.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: You guys probably already discussed this, but I got two
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: comments on this game. None of this stuff you guys
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: have just been talking about would have happened if the
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: offense could have gotten one or two first downs with
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: three minutes to go. Um, and then after that if
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: the defense could have actually stopped him. UM. So my
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: comments really, how much of that's on coaching? How much
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: that is on the players in executing? Um? And if
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: it's coaching, can we start just driving a new the straight?
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: Can we do we start protesting and getting rid of
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: coach Patrizia because goodn't disgracious enough already. I'll take it
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: off there, appreciate it, uh, I mean everything. It's hard
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: to in the first two plays, I just the overall start,
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: going back to the spring, it's just cast a shadow
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: over all of this. And so as much as I
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: have issues with Matt Jones, I just I struggle to
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: get to that point because I don't think he's like
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: he's been put in position to succeed, and you know
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: it's I just I have I struggle to get past that.
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: Now that said, I think the defense, it's just kind
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: of execution there the end, where you know, whether it's
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: what they need to do to get the pass rush there,
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: or the pass rush was themselves they need to get there.
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: That's that was to me the issue at the end.
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: It's just, you know, your last drive, you need somebody
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: to step up and close the game out, and they
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: didn't get it. And offensively, I mean, what are you
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: gonna say like they should have been able to close
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: it out. I guess, but I mean they've struggled to
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: move the ball all year long, so I can't say
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: that they should have done anything. Defensively, I have a
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: little bit higher expectations. Yeah, the pass rush on the
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: final drive was disappointing because it felt like they didn't
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: really they didn't really try some of the tricks that
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: worked in the beginning of beginning for the first fifty
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: eight minutes of the game until the cold touchdown, and
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: then when they what they tried on the coal touchdown
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: was the same plan that they had been running all game,
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: and the Raiders were just ready for it finally, So
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: they're rushing four guys right like they're just standard four
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: man rush, seven drop in coverage, and Barnward came close
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: a few times he beat his guy, but car was
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: got the ball out because he was running running those
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: deep outs to the sideline. You know there's deep comebacks
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: and that those are pretty quick plays. So they just
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: didn't get it get there fully. And yeah, I would
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: agree that as much as I the last play was
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: the last play. You have to look at it at
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: some degree and say, your defense is your strength, right
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: like your defense is what you're is the good side
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: of the ball, if you will, so that if you're
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: gonna be confident in any side of the football winning
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: a game for you in that type of situation, it
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: would be the defense. Now, Barmo, you mentioned Barmer who
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: came back and early in the game he had like
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: a sack that was just looked like he destroyed their car,
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: like he just I mean it was kind of vintage Barmore.
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: Would you would you think of his game returning? Yeah,
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: I thought he looked good. I thought he looked good.
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: Dodd looked healthy. Um, you know he he only got
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: credited for the one sack by PFF. But I thought
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: that he was more impactful than the stats suggested in
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: this game. Had a couple of nice two gap style
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: you know, run stops as well. I thought he played
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: pretty well for the first game back, and he was
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: beating the blockers, right. It wasn't he wasn't always impacting
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: the throw because maybe the throw was getting out quicker
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: than you know, he was able to get there. But
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: I thought that he was beating the blockers and Daniel
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: Aquality was getting all to ask you about him, you
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: think he's a player, so it's just kind of a guy.
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: I think he's kind of a guy. But he was
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: getting a lot of one on ones against Arizona, and
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: that was where sack came against Arizona, was on a
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: one on one. And now if you put Christian Barmore
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: in that spot instead of Daniel Aquale that I think
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: that's a pretty clear upgrade for you and you should
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: be able to, you know, use that to your advantage.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: I haven't done any emails here in the last hour,
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: but I did want to at least get to this one.
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: El from Wisconsin wrote in and just said, you know,
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: why do he keeps saying someone has earned a spot.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: If money is anywhere near equal, well that's something else.
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: But I think that the caller called in and said,
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: who's earned a spot for next year? And so we
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: were just kind of generally saying, who do we feel
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: like players to build around. I mean, certainly there's a
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: bunch of guys who were free agents that decisions have
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: to be made on, but or you know, as Evan
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: pointed out, guys that they could release with an out
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: in their contract. Um, But I don't think it's not
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: really we're not really saying, like, you know, outside of contract,
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: who should or shouldn't be there. It's yeah, and it's
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: hard like that. That caller was asking us how many
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: players like, probably a lot. I don't know, you know,
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: how many you have turnover every year as Bill loves
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: to tell us as turnover year, but how many guys
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: remain on a roster from one year to the next
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: as an average rule in the NFL. I don't have
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: the number off the average number. I mean, you have
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: fifty three three I'm talking to five. I'm just talking
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: about fifty three man roster guys. I'd say it's probably
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: pushing forty. Yeah, I mean, I agree, because you have
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: all the guys on rookie contracts still unless you trade
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: one of those guys, like, you know, a Chase Winovich
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: for example, all those guys are gonna still be on
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: the team. So, uh, Chase Winovich, Mack Wilson, I would
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: see him. I haven't seen either of what this is.
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: This is a little off off beat question. We're talking
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: about free agents. But um, you know, Miles Bryant was
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: an undrafted rookie when he made the team, so he's
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: going to be a restricted free agent. But he's he
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: was undrafted, so you've got a choice to make where
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: first round ten or second round tender? Original round tender? Right?
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: He was restricted though? Right? Yeah? Was he cut? So
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: is he Is he restricted? I don't think he is. No,
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: I don't think he's on that deal anything. If he is,
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: whatever the lowest tender is. I that's an original round tender.
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: Are not basically nothing? So basically nothing. So I mean
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: it's just an interesting No one's going to sign him
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: as a restricted free agent kind of interesting. They might
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: not even offer him a tender because they can probably
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: get him from cheaper than that. I agree. Jonathan Jones
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: be a free agent. That's I think him and Myers,
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: I think are a top of the list for me
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: of you know, guys who have really contributed. And after that,
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: I mean, I don't Damien Harris, Nelson, agil Or, Isaiah Wynn, ray,
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: Qua mcmill and, Cody Davis, Juwan Williams, Devin mccordy, Jabrill Peppers,
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: Ferns and Mac Wilson. I mean, those are that's my
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: quick overview of free agents, but I mean there's not
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: a lot of guys in there. Those are depending free agents.
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: I mean, I think the bigger questions are the ones
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: that haven't talked about between out's contract, you know, the
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: Hunter Henry types that evn't brought up, or the Trent
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: Brown types that yeah, even though it's affordable, what do
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: you want him back? You know those kinds of you
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: know Kendrick Bourne, Yeah, kenner Bourne is not going to
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: break the bank, But do you want him back based
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: on what's what's happened this year? I don't know. I mean,
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: Parker's an easy out with his contract as well, that's
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: easy to get out of that last year, or that
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: one the only guy impending free agent that I look
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: at that I say I want back at this point
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: is Jonathan Jones. I think Jakoe like I would take
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: Jakobe back, Don't get me wrong, But if he hits
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: unrestricted free agency and someone's offering him fifteen million dollars
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: a year, then I'm okay. But then why you know,
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: letting him walk. I would love to have Jonathan Jones back.
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: I think that no matter where you play him, he's
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: a good player. I thought Jonathan Jones got a bigger
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: contract than I thought he would get when the Patriots
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: originally extended him. I wonder if he made himself some
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: money this year. I think this has been his best
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: season by far. Yeah. Yeah, I think he did make
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: himself some money in some respects. But I also think
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: ninety nine percent of teams are still going to view
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: him as a nickel and it was slock corner and
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: so that that position is not going to get paid
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: like the outside guys. But it might be more than
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: they're willing to give him at his age. Yeah, I
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: would prioritize keeping him. I would. And I know you
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: drafted Marcus Jones to probably take that slot roll over,
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: but I just think that Jonathan Jones plays you can
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: put him any like, you can put him in safety,
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: and he's going to be a good safety. Like he's
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: that type of guy that truly is just outside inside safety,
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: like you can play him anywhere. They keep showing this
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: play that Jalen hurts, hurts his shoulder, and it's just
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: like it makes me Hurt's grab one more call here
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: as we wrap things up. Phil in Indiana, Hey Phil,
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: how are you doing? Philip? Thank you? Just a couple
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: of quick a couple of quick comments, and again may
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: have mentioned these earlier in the show. I'm sorry, But
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: the Patriots had the ball second and seven. They're going
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: to run twice. Raiders obviously know they're going to run.
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: And what happens that we've seen all year is jump
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: off side. And now it's second and twelve and they're
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: not going to get the first. And so whether it's
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: jumping off side, delay a game, not getting the place,
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: you know, it's just over and over. And as soon
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: as they said I thought this games, now we're in
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: trouble again. Yeah, I agree. So that's the type of
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: stuff they just need to clean up. And the second
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: thing is I thought they were Patriots the end of
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: the sure it looks like they had a pretty good
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: draft and they in using this young grow right who's
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: kind of handling the draft now, And I do hope
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: then this is a good example why Belitis should should
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: turn over the offensive play calling to someone else, maybe
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: some of the younger guys that are on the on
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: the staff. So thank you, that's all I have to say.
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: Thanks Phil. I agree with this mentality because you get
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: three yards in first down, second and seven. I think
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: given the way you ran the ball throughout the day,
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: and I know it's harder to run in that situation
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: than that was the rest of the day. But you
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: could realistically say I have two places to get seven yards.
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: I could do that. I can run, But when you
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: make it second and twelve, realistically, you're probably not going
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: to do that. In that scenario where the other teams
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: just play and run, you're probably not going to get
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: twelve yards on two carries. So that was a huge penalty. Yeah,
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: can we You have the the playlists right there so
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: you can look it up. But can we at least try?
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: Can we at least try? What do you mean? Can
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: we try the second and twelve and third and ten?
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: Can we at least try to run a play that's
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: going to pick up a first down. Okay, So yeah,
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: they ran the ball three places. The reason why I
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: asked you to look up the play just quickly is
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: because at that point there's still at least over two
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: minutes left in the game, right, and the Raiders have
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: the two minute warning and they, however many time I
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: outs they had left. So okay, so they took it
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: over with five ten left Stevenson left guard for three
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: yards down to four thirty. Oh no, sorry, this is
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: the wrong one, wrong drive. Yes, it's three to twelve left,
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: Stevenson middle for three yards. Then they time out. Then
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: it is three h nine and that's when the penalty
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: occurs on second and seven. So I think it's reasonable
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: that you ran the ball on first down. So now
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: it's second and twelve, and this is where I assume
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: you want to try to pass. Yes, they clearly wanted
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: to get rid of that last time out. They prioritize
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: that over throwing the ball. I think that's a very
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: reasonable second guess. Ninety nine times out of one hundred,
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: I'm in favor of throwing the ball to get a
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: first down to clinch the game. In that scenario because
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: I don't care if the other team has timeouts. If
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: they have enough time, they're gonna have, right. I am
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: not surprised that the Raiders move the ball and we're
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: going to be throwing it into the end zone because
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: that's what teams do rum. So to Evans point, I
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: would rather throw it. But I gotta tell you, I
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: have absolutely no faith in the passing game. So in
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: this case, I think I would have run it three times.
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: I'm just saying I would have, and I almost never
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: would feel that way. If it's isolated in that, like
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: one specific scenario, then I guess maybe you can understand
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: they want them to bring their timeouts. They want to
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: take out as much time on the clock. I just
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: all season long, they get into third and eight plus
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: and they give up. They do they give up. They
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: don't even try like that in the bootleg was not
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: even trying, Like you weren't going to get it that
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: so you're not even trying, Like the bootleg call is inexplicable.
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: It's like I would rather have thrown a bomb and
