- 0:00Speaker 1: You might think, how would a kid put on a
- 0:02Speaker 1: football helmet and not know there's a cotton mouth in there?
- 0:05Speaker 2: Well, in those football helmets there's a lot of you know,
- 0:08Speaker 2: pads and areas for the snake to kind of work
- 0:10Speaker 2: its way in there and get up and hide and
- 0:13Speaker 2: not be directly against your head. How did the snake
- 0:17Speaker 2: get into the helmet? Well, you know you'd take it off,
- 0:19Speaker 2: you throw it on the ground. You're over there having
- 0:21Speaker 2: a meeting on the ground. Well, our coach never let
- 0:24Speaker 2: our helmets touch the ground. But I don't know how
- 0:27Speaker 2: they do things. That wasn't a baby one, That was
- 0:29Speaker 2: a big one. It might have been in the kid's
- 0:31Speaker 2: locker and the snake is like, hey, this is just
- 0:33Speaker 2: a good place to crash for the night. Maybe the
- 0:35Speaker 2: snake had too much to drink wandered its way in there.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Maybe it'd be a good motivator for the Black Shirts.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Let's put snakes in their helmets.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Eleven to ten kfab Certified Transmission Sports Free Huskar Buzz
- 0:49Speaker 2: Edition with Sean Callahan Live and Lincoln and Jim Rose
- 0:51Speaker 2: right here.
- 0:52Speaker 1: All right, Seana, how you doing do?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Good? Good morning? Gentlemen.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Do you ever have a snake in your helmet when
- 0:57Speaker 1: you were playing for the gross Hide Cougars.
- 0:59Speaker 3: No, I do remember that scene from Arachnophobia, the movie
- 1:02Speaker 3: whereas Spider got inside the kid's helmet and he takes
- 1:05Speaker 3: a big shot in the football field and they think
- 1:09Speaker 3: he goes down because of the hit. Will Spider bit
- 1:11Speaker 3: him and kill them?
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah? Okay, well nothing like football.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Football called John Goodman.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, let's visit about some players. There's a
- 1:21Speaker 1: couple of guys out there. A lot of people are
- 1:23Speaker 1: wondering whether they're ever going to turn out or how
- 1:25Speaker 1: good are they? What's their status? And I want to
- 1:28Speaker 1: ask you about a couple of those guys, because you're
- 1:30Speaker 1: on top of everybody. What is the deal with Justin
- 1:33Speaker 1: Rhett This was the Georgia transfer. Is this guy going
- 1:36Speaker 1: to be a key factor at safety this year?
- 1:40Speaker 3: I still when I look at that group, I still
- 1:42Speaker 3: think he might be on the outside looking in. I
- 1:45Speaker 3: mean he's still right there. But remember Rex got three
- 1:48Speaker 3: is now back. Jowayne McDougall was brought in as a
- 1:51Speaker 3: starter that was at San Diego State. You have Jamir Kahn.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I mean those are kind of the three main safeties.
- 2:00Speaker 3: When I like look at then Caleb Benning and Justin Redd.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I mean, so you've got four or five guys that
- 2:05Speaker 3: can play there and they've all been repping. It's early
- 2:10Speaker 3: in camp, but yeah, the talent's there. Last day's Bishop
- 2:13Speaker 3: Gorman kid that went to Georgia. But yeah, you know,
- 2:17Speaker 3: as far as winning the job, it remains to be
- 2:19Speaker 3: seen because you have now last year starter healthy and
- 2:23Speaker 3: then a new coach and the coordinator. Then obviously he
- 2:25Speaker 3: brought one of his starters with him and Joyn McDougal.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Now what about Jason Shiggs? Is he a factor?
- 2:32Speaker 3: Yeah, he'd be in that conversation too. You know, he
- 2:36Speaker 3: was kind of under the radar Portal edition, so it's
- 2:42Speaker 3: really hard to say where he kind of fits in
- 2:44Speaker 3: at this point. But you know, they brought him in.
- 2:47Speaker 3: You know, it was not by any means like a
- 2:49Speaker 3: big money ad, more of a depth piece ad that
- 2:52Speaker 3: they brought in. But you know, special teams probably could
- 2:55Speaker 3: be an option too for some of these guys.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Now, the running back room I think is still a
- 2:59Speaker 1: big question. I don't think they're going to be running
- 3:01Speaker 1: the ball a lot anyway, but you do have to
- 3:04Speaker 1: have a feature back and I don't know how you
- 3:06Speaker 1: replace Emma Johnson's versatility. Who do you think is going
- 3:10Speaker 1: to emerge out of that room?
- 3:12Speaker 3: Well, you got to look at it like this way.
- 3:13Speaker 3: There's probably gonna be about thirty five touches in a
- 3:15Speaker 3: game for the Backs, whether it's on the ground or
- 3:17Speaker 3: through the air, air maybe forty. Mean, last year they
- 3:21Speaker 3: were blessed enough with Emma Johnson that he could take
- 3:23Speaker 3: ninety percent of those touches. And they don't have obviously
- 3:27Speaker 3: somebody of that caliber at least right now. I mean,
- 3:30Speaker 3: I still think Makai Nelson and Isaiah Mosey and Jamal Rule,
- 3:33Speaker 3: that combination, it will just split that up. And you know,
- 3:37Speaker 3: Mkai Nelson looks really good physically when you see him
- 3:40Speaker 3: from say a year ago. Mosey has had a great offseason.
- 3:43Speaker 3: They love Jamal Rule. Tyke Hayes is kind of a
- 3:46Speaker 3: wild card coming in late from Penn State from Iowa
- 3:50Speaker 3: Western where he kind of fits. He's the one guy
- 3:52Speaker 3: that could really shake that conversation up. The nice thing
- 3:56Speaker 3: is they have those first three games where they're gonna
- 3:58Speaker 3: be heavy favorites at home or ideally you can kind
- 4:02Speaker 3: of let that room figure itself out.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Do you think Quinton Ives We've seen the best of
- 4:07Speaker 1: Quinton Ives yet.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I just don't put him up. I mean, I
- 4:11Speaker 3: think those first four guys are ahead of him, so
- 4:13Speaker 3: he's probably your fifth option down. He does not have
- 4:17Speaker 3: like that that second gear of speed. If you remember
- 4:22Speaker 3: last year, we got to see him play more in
- 4:24Speaker 3: the Houston Christian game because mkay Nelson was suspended, and
- 4:28Speaker 3: you know, he had some kind of what we're you know,
- 4:30Speaker 3: breakaway runs at any back on the team would have
- 4:32Speaker 3: gotten because of the discreptancy of talent and he just
- 4:35Speaker 3: didn't look fluid and good running in the open or
- 4:39Speaker 3: McKay nelson. They would have been easy touchdowns. So I
- 4:42Speaker 3: think he does some good things, but he doesn't have
- 4:45Speaker 3: that speed to kind of break away and and and
- 4:49Speaker 3: do some of the things Mane the other guys can do.
- 4:51Speaker 1: When you throw a mere Brown into the mix, that's
- 4:53Speaker 1: six scholarship running backs? Is that too many?
- 4:58Speaker 3: Who a mere Uh?
- 4:59Speaker 1: Next year here when you throw a mere Brown in there?
- 5:01Speaker 1: And you know.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Down Connor well, Connor Booth's in that conversation as well,
- 5:06Speaker 3: But no, you want to have options. I think when
- 5:10Speaker 3: you when you look at that group, you want a
- 5:12Speaker 3: number of options in there. And you know that top
- 5:15Speaker 3: four is pretty good. I mean, I think that's a
- 5:17Speaker 3: really solid group of four backs. I mean Mosey in
- 5:23Speaker 3: the guy they just brought in, Tyke Hayes from Penn State.
- 5:26Speaker 3: I you know, those two guys are our former four
- 5:29Speaker 3: star guys. And then you know you get down the
- 5:32Speaker 3: line of Mikai Nelson being you know, it's a it's
- 5:34Speaker 3: a solid group of backs. They've they's got to let
- 5:37Speaker 3: kind of figure out how they want to rotate them
- 5:39Speaker 3: and play them here in the games.
- 5:41Speaker 1: All right, so let's ahead this week.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Well, they will practice today and then Tomorrow is an
- 5:47Speaker 3: off day, and then they'll come back Friday and Saturday
- 5:50Speaker 3: and they'll scrimmage probably Saturday. So today I believe is
- 5:54Speaker 3: their last day in the dorms before the players move
- 5:56Speaker 3: out of the dorms. But yeah, camp's moving along. The
- 6:00Speaker 3: heat is here like they've they've kind of been practicing
- 6:03Speaker 3: at different times.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Oh oh, Eric, Well there you have the gist of it.
- 6:12Speaker 1: We're going to have a scrimmage on Saturday. Sad that
- 6:15Speaker 1: we lost a shuttle there
