- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good next.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way, it's Sonya
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Good morning. Thank you for joining me here today. Just well,
- 0:15Speaker 1: 2 more days before the weekend again. Yay! Short work
- 0:17Speaker 1: week just for you. Hope it's going well so far.
- 0:20Speaker 1: We still have that peppermint buffet dining experience at Park
- 0:23Speaker 1: Royal for you. This morning show, don't go anywhere. Singapore's
- 0:27Speaker 1: number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And like I mentioned earlier, um, we were talking about
- 0:35Speaker 1: how Baby Shark took over like the entire world, right?
- 0:39Speaker 1: I played a snippet for you earlier. I'm not gonna
- 0:40Speaker 1: do it again because if not, it'll be stuck in
- 0:43Speaker 1: your head all day, I think. Um, and, and I
- 0:46Speaker 1: think there's over what, like, I don't know, 10 billion
- 0:49Speaker 1: views or I don't even know how many views at
- 0:52Speaker 1: this point. Let me get an exact number because it
- 0:55Speaker 1: keeps changing.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Um, oh, over 17 billion views as of now, like
- 1:01Speaker 1: right now. It is the most watched video on YouTube.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I believe in the past it was, was it Justin
- 1:08Speaker 1: Bieber's Baby or I don't know, man. I think Justin
- 1:11Speaker 1: Bieber held the record for quite some time, um, but,
- 1:14Speaker 1: and Gangnam Style, right? Now it's Baby Sharks, 17 billion
- 1:19Speaker 1: views as of this year.
- 1:21Speaker 1: You might have noticed that there were 2 kids featured
- 1:24Speaker 1: in this and the one that made the first appearance
- 1:26Speaker 1: was this Korean boy as a child. His name is
- 1:30Speaker 1: Park Gyeon-rog.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And now he's grown up. I think, I mean, he,
- 1:36Speaker 1: he looks like a teenager at most or maybe he's
- 1:39Speaker 1: close to 20 years old. I'm not, not entirely sure
- 1:42Speaker 1: his exact age right now, but he's decided to make
- 1:46Speaker 1: a career out of it, out of his fame. He's
- 1:49Speaker 1: now put on the name as Baby Shark Boy and
- 1:54Speaker 1: I know his, his official name is Baby Shark Boy,
- 1:57Speaker 1: and he's going to kick off a career in K-pop. Yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Um, you know, it's gonna be really exciting. He's gonna
- 2:04Speaker 1: debut in a few days, actually 20th of August. There's
- 2:08Speaker 1: a single called Wave coming up, um, and, and, uh,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I think a, a member of Monster X is going
- 2:14Speaker 1: to be helping him out with it and featuring in
- 2:17Speaker 1: it as well. So I, I think he's set for success.
- 2:20Speaker 1: He looks good. He looks cute, and I think he
- 2:23Speaker 1: has a whole package, uh, except the name Baby Shark Boy.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I think needs to change la.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'm not sure whether he might regret it in a
- 2:31Speaker 1: few years when he, you know, grows up a bit more,
- 2:34Speaker 1: but we'll see. I think it only makes sense to
- 2:36Speaker 1: write off that recognition for a bit. In just about
- 2:39Speaker 1: less than 10 minutes, about to open up the phone lines, 669-11987.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I want to know how your exams are going and
- 2:47Speaker 1: did you manage to catch the collaboration between 987 and 933?
- 2:52Speaker 1: Because we're doing a series of um,
- 2:56Speaker 1: Oral examination papers between myself and Ting Fong and we're just, honestly,
- 3:02Speaker 1: I don't know how I didn't laugh. I was struggling,
- 3:04Speaker 1: like I was about to snort. I was about to laugh,
- 3:07Speaker 1: because he would go through um an English paper and
- 3:10Speaker 1: I would try the Mandarin paper, OK, the Mandarin oral exam.
- 3:14Speaker 1: So my episode of me trying the
- 3:16Speaker 1: Mandarin version will be out very soon, but we kick
- 3:19Speaker 1: things off with him trying the English oral exam. Please
- 3:22Speaker 1: check it out right now. It's on 987. It's a
- 3:24Speaker 1: collab post between all four of us. Yes, Joos Sanan, myself, um,
- 3:29Speaker 1: 987 and Ting Fong. So please check it out. It's
- 3:32Speaker 1: on Instagram and TikTok as well, so don't miss out. Honestly, um,
- 3:37Speaker 1: We had such a blast filming it. Like I love
- 3:39Speaker 1: working with them. It's hilarious. It just reminds me how
- 3:42Speaker 1: bad my Mandarin is. Heading to the phone lines, we've
- 3:44Speaker 1: got Michaela. Good morning. What song can I get you today?
- 3:49Speaker 1: Touch my. Touch and who is it going out to? Um,
- 3:51Speaker 1: all the P6s that all the P6 icons that are
- 3:56Speaker 1: having today.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Alright, I got you on that. You have a great day, OK?
- 4:01Speaker 1: Thank you. Now, this I think is a pretty important announcement, OK?
- 4:05Speaker 1: When I saw this, I was a little shocked and
- 4:07Speaker 1: I forwarded it to my friends and family who know
- 4:11Speaker 1: of this and who've actually eaten this, and I actually
- 4:14Speaker 1: have like a couple of bottles of it at home
- 4:16Speaker 1: right now.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So, if you've been to Trader Joe's before, especially in
- 4:21Speaker 1: the US, it's huge, right? And some of their items
- 4:25Speaker 1: are quite iconic. So, I think people have started to
- 4:28Speaker 1: um stock them and resell them, especially online on e-commerce platforms. So,
- 4:32Speaker 1: if you are familiar with Trader Joe's, you would know
- 4:35Speaker 1: their seasoning blend called Everything but the Bagel. You confirm
- 4:39Speaker 1: you've seen it before, right? Um, just, just do a
- 4:42Speaker 1: quick search on it and you'll be able to find it.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Unfortunately, Trader Joe's everything but the bagel seasoning has been
- 4:49Speaker 1: tested for poppy seeds, and it's in there, apparently. If
- 4:55Speaker 1: you're unfamiliar with the term poppy seeds, it actually is
- 4:58Speaker 1: related to opium, if I'm not wrong. And, you know,
- 5:02Speaker 1: we've learned in school back then, yeah, there was um
- 5:04Speaker 1: there was an opium situation last time in the past
- 5:07Speaker 1: and all that.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Um, they come from the opium poppy, and they contain,
- 5:10Speaker 1: I mean, the, the blend contains traces of other forms
- 5:13Speaker 1: of controlled drugs, apparently. And this is something that we've
- 5:17Speaker 1: never known, uh, by the way, like, this has been
- 5:20Speaker 1: available on the shelves forever and I discovered it because
- 5:22Speaker 1: a friend of mine, um, bought it for a, for
- 5:25Speaker 1: a gifts when she went to the US and brought
- 5:27Speaker 1: it back. And I was like, wow, it's really tasty.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I mean, I did put it on some stuff like
- 5:31Speaker 1: toast or your avocados and stuff, but after a while,
- 5:34Speaker 1: I got a bit of joll out of it, you know,
- 5:36Speaker 1: in a very local way. You got sick of the flavor, right?
- 5:39Speaker 1: So I changed. I bought other types of seasonings from
- 5:42Speaker 1: Trader Joe's whenever I go to the US and all,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and you would have never known. I mean, what does
- 5:47Speaker 1: it say on the bottle? It says it's got sesame, garlic,
- 5:50Speaker 1: I think some onions, if I'm not wrong, and it's
- 5:53Speaker 1: just a bunch of very tasty things in the seasoning blend.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Um, our friends over at South Korea were the first
- 6:01Speaker 1: ones to actually ban it because they, they realized there
- 6:04Speaker 1: were some prohibited items in the testing. So, I think
- 6:07Speaker 1: this has been previously listed on certain e-commerce platforms. So,
- 6:11Speaker 1: if you've bought them or shopped them on e-commerce platforms
- 6:14Speaker 1: as well, I think um the authorities are advising you
- 6:17Speaker 1: to toss them and they're stopping, they're stopping the sales
- 6:20Speaker 1: on of this particular blend on all platforms. So, just
- 6:24Speaker 1: something for you to note this morning. I, whenever it
- 6:27Speaker 1: comes down to buying tickets,
- 6:29Speaker 1: Especially for a really big concert or big act, you know, um,
- 6:32Speaker 1: BTS coming to Singapore soon. We even had Big Bang.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Remember yesterday I was saying like what, half a million
- 6:37Speaker 1: people were in the queue in the early, early bird tickets. Crazy, right?
- 6:40Speaker 1: But bringing you here to our Singapore sporting scene, OK.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I feel like kind of proud in a way that
- 6:48Speaker 1: this is happening because it shows that there is a demand.
- 6:52Speaker 1: The Singapore versus Thailand football match tickets sold out in
- 6:57Speaker 1: minutes and now they're reselling at up to $1500 a pair.
- 7:03Speaker 1: It's crazy and the fans are saying like, it's bots
- 7:06Speaker 1: and scalpers galore over here. How is this happening? Crazy. Um.
- 7:11Speaker 1: These are tickets for the 15th of August game. It
- 7:14Speaker 1: actually went on sale at 11:00 a.m. yesterday, exclusively through
- 7:18Speaker 1: an online platform called Ticket Hotline. So I think um
- 7:21Speaker 1: more than 4000 home supported tickets were released, but due
- 7:24Speaker 1: to overwhelming demand, it was snapped up immediately. So I
- 7:27Speaker 1: wonder what they're gonna do now because the tickets are
- 7:29Speaker 1: reselling for 1.5K. It's, it's nuts. I'm, I'm curious to
- 7:33Speaker 1: know what um the authorities might do because I think
- 7:37Speaker 1: A lot of people say they're extremely frustrated and uh
- 7:40Speaker 1: our friends over at Football Association of Singapore are, are,
- 7:44Speaker 1: they're trying to figure it out, but they thanked fans
- 7:46Speaker 1: on Instagram for their support. Although a lot of people
- 7:49Speaker 1: expressed their frustration in the comments, I have faith that
- 7:52Speaker 1: our FAS may do something about it. Maybe either release
- 7:56Speaker 1: more tickets or I don't know, like, um, maybe in
- 8:00Speaker 1: the future when they release tickets, they might have to
- 8:02Speaker 1: come up with a better plan.
- 8:04Speaker 1: To secure the site or something. This, this war against
- 8:08Speaker 1: bots and scalpers, it's never ending, you know. I don't
- 8:11Speaker 1: know what else we can do, like what the powers
- 8:14Speaker 1: that be can do to stop this from happening. It's
- 8:17Speaker 1: been like a decade-long or an age-old battle that we've
- 8:20Speaker 1: been fighting.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And um I don't, I don't really see an end
- 8:24Speaker 1: to it unless they insist on you using your like SingPass,
- 8:27Speaker 1: for example, and only you can only buy it and
- 8:31Speaker 1: you have to show your sing you have to show
- 8:32Speaker 1: your identification again when you enter the, enter the um
- 8:36Speaker 1: the arena, something like that, you know, that could be
- 8:39Speaker 1: the best way, although it's an extra step, of course,
- 8:41Speaker 1: and more trouble, but maybe, maybe, just maybe, it might
- 8:45Speaker 1: have to happen soon. Still can't believe Hailey Steinfeld's a mom.
- 8:48Speaker 1: It's insane. Like, I, I still remember, I feel like
- 8:52Speaker 1: it was just last year that Joakim and I met
- 8:54Speaker 1: Hailey Steinfeld and she was getting ready for Pitch Perfect 2,
- 8:57Speaker 1: if I'm not wrong. That was already quite a number
- 8:59Speaker 1: of years back. And um then she broke off into
- 9:02Speaker 1: a solo singing career and she visited us here in 1987.
- 9:05Speaker 1: That was when like, I don't know, she was in
- 9:07Speaker 1: her early twenties or maybe not even.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Maybe not even 20. I think she got married quite
- 9:12Speaker 1: young actually, but yeah, it's incredible, like the woman she's
- 9:15Speaker 1: become and the actress that she has become as well.
- 9:17Speaker 1: It's just fantastic and uh maybe, maybe at some point
- 9:20Speaker 1: we get to link up again, perhaps, you know, I
- 9:23Speaker 1: always wonder about all these celebrities that we met, especially
- 9:26Speaker 1: Hollywood A-listers that we met um earlier on in our
- 9:29Speaker 1: career when
- 9:30Speaker 1: You know, we flew around a lot more for interviews
- 9:33Speaker 1: and all that because ever since COVID, I feel things
- 9:35Speaker 1: have changed a little bit. A lot of it has
- 9:38Speaker 1: translated to be online instead, and I kind of miss that.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I kind of miss seeing and connecting with them in
- 9:44Speaker 1: the flesh and just seeing how they answer your questions
- 9:47Speaker 1: and how they.
- 9:48Speaker 1: That's right with you as a normal human being, right?
- 9:50Speaker 1: It's always so eye-opening and some of them actually will
- 9:53Speaker 1: surprise you. Like some of the biggest celebrities from Hollywood
- 9:56Speaker 1: that we've met are the most down to earth, humble
- 9:59Speaker 1: people that you will ever speak to and that's always,
- 10:03Speaker 1: it's always in those moments that I appreciate the job
- 10:05Speaker 1: so much, you know.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Anyway, um, coming up very, very soon, you'll be walking
- 10:09Speaker 1: away with a 2, well, a, a dinner for 2
- 10:13Speaker 1: over at a beautiful buffet. This is at Park Royal
- 10:17Speaker 1: at Marina Bay. Bit of an update here, thanks to
- 10:19Speaker 1: our friends over at Grab. Now, I think this is
- 10:22Speaker 1: super good, by the way. They've launched a new safety
- 10:25Speaker 1: program designed specifically for food delivery riders, developed together with,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and I didn't even know that this was a thing.
- 10:32Speaker 1: There's a Riding Safety Association of Singapore, also known as RSAS.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I had no idea. And also the National Delivery Champions Association. That,
- 10:42Speaker 1: that's incredible. I learn something new every day. Um, Grab
- 10:45Speaker 1: Academy Ride Safe 2026 was actually launched yesterday.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And um also officiated by some of our ministers out there.
- 10:54Speaker 1: And I think this course is built around, you know,
- 10:57Speaker 1: how to do defensive riding techniques, hazard awareness, risk anticipation,
- 11:03Speaker 1: handling your motorcycle, low speed control, how to emergency brake
- 11:07Speaker 1: and all that, and they even complete these exercises using
- 11:10Speaker 1: their own delivery bags. So I'm like, OK, it's very,
- 11:13Speaker 1: very on ground, very practical.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Um, the instructors can actually coach them other conditions closer
- 11:18Speaker 1: to their actual work because I, I get it sometimes
- 11:20Speaker 1: when you do things in theory or when you take
- 11:22Speaker 1: a lesson, especially when, you know, I took my driving class, right,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and you've got the instructor right next to you in
- 11:28Speaker 1: your car. I feel like it's not the same when
- 11:32Speaker 1: you're out there on your own, like, a lot of
- 11:34Speaker 1: the things that you learn.
- 11:35Speaker 1: In the circuits, sometimes you still have to um take
- 11:39Speaker 1: it with a pinch of salt when you're out there, right?
- 11:41Speaker 1: Because road conditions and the people around you and all that,
- 11:44Speaker 1: it changes things a lot.
- 11:46Speaker 1: So, I, I feel like this is super good and
- 11:48Speaker 1: you want to be safe out there. I think, um,
- 11:51Speaker 1: as much as you can because I appreciate these delivery
- 11:53Speaker 1: riders so much. I honestly don't know what we would
- 11:56Speaker 1: do without them. If you think about it, we use
- 11:59Speaker 1: delivery services pretty much every other day. For me, at
- 12:03Speaker 1: least once a day, I'll use some sort of delivery service.
- 12:05Speaker 1: If it's not Grab, it could be um FoodPanda for
- 12:08Speaker 1: Panda Mart or it could be like Lala Move, for example,
- 12:11Speaker 1: when I'm moving stuff around or carrying stuff around, right?
- 12:14Speaker 1: So it's, it's, it's a risky thing sometimes for them
- 12:17Speaker 1: to be on the road for, for long hours and
- 12:19Speaker 1: not just that, if they're rushing to fulfill orders or,
- 12:22Speaker 1: you know, they, they want to make sure that they
- 12:24Speaker 1: get there in time, it's, it can be risky. So,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I really hope that more delivery riders out there, if
- 12:29Speaker 1: you're tuning in right now, we appreciate you and please
- 12:32Speaker 1: stay safe. And I, I really don't know how life
- 12:35Speaker 1: would be without these delivery services. Singapore, we are so
- 12:39Speaker 1: blessed and spoiled to some extent because when I go overseas, right,
- 12:44Speaker 1: The delivery options are not great, to be honest. I,
- 12:46Speaker 1: I'm not talking about places like Thailand or Indonesia because
- 12:50Speaker 1: those are great. Like, I love the food there and
- 12:52Speaker 1: um delivery services are in abundance. But in other countries,
- 12:56Speaker 1: like in Europe, for example, even in the US it's
- 12:59Speaker 1: very different, OK? Not only is it extremely expensive, the
- 13:02Speaker 1: options are not fantastic. It's always like mostly fast food,
- 13:06Speaker 1: most of the time, and you have to wait for
- 13:08Speaker 1: quite some time because things are just far away for them, right?
- 13:11Speaker 1: Anyway, be safe on the roads if you're tuning in
- 13:13Speaker 1: right now. And I had a very interesting evening yesterday. So,
- 13:17Speaker 1: you know me lah, between Joakim and I, I am
- 13:20Speaker 1: not the most fit person. I mean, OK, I'm not unfit.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I'm OK. Like I do just enough to get by,
- 13:27Speaker 1: but I don't, I definitely don't overdo it. If I'm
- 13:30Speaker 1: feeling tired that day, I'm definitely not going to work
- 13:33Speaker 1: out or hitting the gym.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I'm just gonna chill and give my body what it deserves,
- 13:38Speaker 1: which is sleep, and my sleep debt is terrible right now. So,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I am not one to go out of my way
- 13:45Speaker 1: to try something intense until last night, OK? So, well,
- 13:50Speaker 1: yesterday evening, um, I was invited by some friends to
- 13:52Speaker 1: try a new like boxing HI gym kind of situation,
- 13:57Speaker 1: and I initially I was like, oh, OK, sure. I
- 13:59Speaker 1: didn't read the details. I thought it was just the
- 14:02Speaker 1: opening of a gym.
- 14:04Speaker 1: And I was like, OK, yeah, sure, I'll just show
- 14:06Speaker 1: some support, you know, friends of friends and all that, right?
- 14:08Speaker 1: And until I realized that we have to do a class.
- 14:11Speaker 1: We had to do like an actual hit boxing class,
- 14:16Speaker 1: and um, I didn't know what to expect. I was like, huh, like, OK,
- 14:20Speaker 1: oh man, like I don't know if I'm mentally ready
- 14:21Speaker 1: for this. I mean, I'm a Pilates girlie. I sometimes
- 14:24Speaker 1: do incline walks at the gym, you know, hot girl
- 14:26Speaker 1: walk at East Coast Park or something, or maybe Fort
- 14:30Speaker 1: Canning at times, you know, but that's the most that
- 14:32Speaker 1: I'll do.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And when it comes to combat sports or anything combat related,
- 14:36Speaker 1: I'm like, oh man, I just did my nails, ha.
- 14:39Speaker 1: So, anyway, I went, OK, despite having just done my manicure,
- 14:44Speaker 1: but I, I didn't think it would be that intense. Um,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I was wrong. The hit boxing class was pretty intense
- 14:51Speaker 1: and I already think that they lowered the level down
- 14:55Speaker 1: for us because it was just like um, a media invite,
- 14:58Speaker 1: a media preview kind of thing. So they, they probably
- 15:02Speaker 1: made it easier already.
- 15:04Speaker 1: It was about 45 minutes, quite intense, and the breaks
- 15:08Speaker 1: are so short, I think I could barely take like
- 15:11Speaker 1: two sips of water and then we're starting again, you know.
- 15:13Speaker 1: So it was a really good experience, I will say.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I mean, I'm aching everywhere this morning, but I did
- 15:18Speaker 1: feel some sense of like,
- 15:21Speaker 1: Release or liberation when I was punching that punching bag.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I mean, I've never done combat sports before, only done
- 15:27Speaker 1: a few things for like filming, you know, like act
- 15:29Speaker 1: a bit on the, like just for, just for a
- 15:31Speaker 1: video or something, right? Then we, we do it, but
- 15:34Speaker 1: not for real. And I was like, oh, wow, this
- 15:35Speaker 1: is actually quite a good release, especially if you've had
- 15:39Speaker 1: quite a long day or you're frustrated or, you know,
- 15:42Speaker 1: you just want to learn some basic self-defense. I don't
- 15:46Speaker 1: even know that if that's considered self-defense, but
- 15:48Speaker 1: I can now punch someone in case something bad happens, right,
- 15:51Speaker 1: and run away maybe as quickly as I can. So
- 15:54Speaker 1: that was my experience yesterday evening. I thought it was
- 15:56Speaker 1: pretty interesting because it was the first time I went
- 15:58Speaker 1: like completely out of my comfort zone to try um
- 16:01Speaker 1: a different type of sport or something like that.
- 16:04Speaker 1: And as you know me, like I've never had a
- 16:07Speaker 1: history of sports ever in school, my CCA, nothing, OK? PE,
- 16:11Speaker 1: no one wants to pick me for their team. That,
- 16:14Speaker 1: that's how bad it is. So, give me a call,
- 16:16Speaker 1: 669-11987 or drop me a message, 90050987.
- 16:23Speaker 1: If you had the free will and the ability and
- 16:26Speaker 1: the time right now to pick up any random sport
- 16:30Speaker 1: as a hobby, OK, or maybe you end up really
- 16:32Speaker 1: good at it, don't know, what would it be? Now,
- 16:35Speaker 1: you can get creative with it because I would have
- 16:37Speaker 1: loved to do something like fencing or, you know, something
- 16:40Speaker 1: cool like that, right?
- 16:41Speaker 1: But yeah, I just don't have the hand-eye coordination for that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Give me a call at 669-11987 or drop me a message.
- 16:48Speaker 1: If you had the free will and the time to
- 16:51Speaker 1: pick up and be really good at any sport right
- 16:53Speaker 1: now in this time of your life, what would it be?
- 16:56Speaker 1: Get creative and in exchange, a dining experience for two
- 17:00Speaker 1: at Peppermint at Park Royal Collection, Marina Bay.
- 17:03Speaker 1: This is a halal certified buffet restaurant. It will satisfy
- 17:06Speaker 1: every kind of craving and appetite that you have. Thanks
- 17:09Speaker 1: for joining me here this morning. I was just sharing
- 17:11Speaker 1: about my experience doing a boxing class for the first
- 17:14Speaker 1: time yesterday. I mean, previously, yeah, I've visited some boxing, um,
- 17:19Speaker 1: gyms before, but it was mainly for like a shoot
- 17:21Speaker 1: or like a media thing and it was never really
- 17:23Speaker 1: like a full class. So this was my first like
- 17:26Speaker 1: hit boxing fitness class that went on for about 45
- 17:29Speaker 1: minutes and I almost passed away.
- 17:33Speaker 1: But look, I had fun, to be honest, even though
- 17:36Speaker 1: I'm aching a lot this morning, but it was a
- 17:39Speaker 1: good form of release, I feel, because, you know, you
- 17:41Speaker 1: never really do that or get to do that at all.
- 17:44Speaker 1: So my question to you this morning was actually, if
- 17:46Speaker 1: you had the free will and time right now to
- 17:48Speaker 1: pick up any sport at all, like, don't even think
- 17:51Speaker 1: about your ability or like the training, whatever. If you
- 17:54Speaker 1: could pick it up and be good at it, what
- 17:55Speaker 1: would you want to do? Some hilarious ones coming through
- 17:58Speaker 1: and entertaining ones as well. Say hi to Belle. You said, hey, Sonia, morning.
- 18:02Speaker 1: For me, definitely horseback riding.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I don't know if I'll be any good at it,
- 18:07Speaker 1: to be honest, but it's insane how effortlessly graceful these
- 18:10Speaker 1: equestrians look while doing it. Funny thing is, my parents
- 18:13Speaker 1: actually asked if I wanted to try when I was
- 18:15Speaker 1: a lot younger, but I thought horses were stinky back then.
- 18:18Speaker 1: What a waste.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Oh, no, Bell, wasted opportunity because if um you took
- 18:25Speaker 1: it back then when your parents offered it, they would
- 18:27Speaker 1: have paid for you, the class, but now you're an adult, right?
- 18:30Speaker 1: You got to pay yourself.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I don't think horseback lessons are cheap, man. I think
- 18:34Speaker 1: they might be, they might fall under the highest sports
- 18:37Speaker 1: kind of, kind of situation. OK, um, saying hi over
- 18:40Speaker 1: here to Sarah. You said, good morning, Sonia. My dad
- 18:43Speaker 1: says he wants to get into paragliding. He did it
- 18:48Speaker 1: once before in Turkey and says it's so peaceful up
- 18:51Speaker 1: in the sky because it's far away from people. He
- 18:55Speaker 1: said that if he's really good at it, he hopes
- 18:57Speaker 1: he'll be invited to be one of the red lions
- 18:59Speaker 1: during NDP.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Hey, man, never too late. That could be, um, I,
- 19:05Speaker 1: I wonder how old your dad is now, but maybe for, um,
- 19:09Speaker 1: what's the next XSG 65, maybe that could be the next,
- 19:12Speaker 1: I don't know, big, big celebration perhaps, I'm not sure.
- 19:16Speaker 1: He could be like one of the guests, uh, Red Lions. Yeah. hm. OK,
- 19:21Speaker 1: more of your messages coming up in just a bit,
- 19:23Speaker 1: but I'm just gonna squeeze in one more from V.
- 19:26Speaker 1: You said, I've been the same since young. Nobody would
- 19:29Speaker 1: ever pick me for their PE group just like me.
- 19:32Speaker 1: But if I had to choose a sport, I would
- 19:34Speaker 1: love to do rhythmic gymnastics or figure skating. The combination
- 19:38Speaker 1: of strength, control, balance, and flexibility is beautiful. Plus you
- 19:42Speaker 1: get to keep the nice manicures and outfits. Thank you.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Thank you for relating to me, while exercising in a
- 19:48Speaker 1: cool environment, and the strength, balance, and flexibility built are
- 19:52Speaker 1: exactly the qualities that help with mobility as we age
- 19:55Speaker 1: in the future.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Unfortunately, at this point, the only splits my body can
- 20:00Speaker 1: manage are split ends and a splitting headache.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Hey, our listeners, uh, I, I tell you, I love
- 20:06Speaker 1: my listeners, honestly, like you guys are so witty. You
- 20:09Speaker 1: give the best answers. You have like humor that I
- 20:12Speaker 1: really appreciate. I think, you know, the feeling is mutual.
- 20:14Speaker 1: That's why we're tuning into each other. That's why you're
- 20:16Speaker 1: tuned in to us, right?
- 20:18Speaker 1: Love that. OK. Um, I've gone on for a bit now.
- 20:20Speaker 1: When we come back, we're heading to the phone lines
- 20:22Speaker 1: and more of your messages. It's not too late to
- 20:24Speaker 1: get your stories in, by the way. 669-11987. You can
- 20:28Speaker 1: give me a call.
- 20:30Speaker 1: And the question is, if you had the free will
- 20:32Speaker 1: and time right now to pick up any sport and
- 20:34Speaker 1: be good at it, what would it be? In exchange,
- 20:38Speaker 1: a dining experience for two over at this gorgeous buffet restaurant.
- 20:42Speaker 1: It is called Peppermints. It's over at Park Royal Collection,
- 20:45Speaker 1: Marina Bay, and it's halal certified. And my question posed
- 20:48Speaker 1: to you today was based off my experience yesterday evening
- 20:52Speaker 1: when I tried a boxing class for the very first
- 20:55Speaker 1: time to support one of my friend's friend's gyms and
- 20:58Speaker 1: I just didn't expect it to be like, I mean, OK,
- 21:01Speaker 1: what was I expecting? It was definitely gonna be intense.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I just didn't expect myself to be like, yeah, OK,
- 21:05Speaker 1: I'll come, you know. But hey, in the spirit of
- 21:08Speaker 1: trying new things and living life to the fullest in 2026,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, OK, why not? I'll just go.
- 21:13Speaker 1: So my question to you, if you had the free
- 21:16Speaker 1: will and time right now to pick whatever sport you
- 21:18Speaker 1: want to do, what would it be? OK, so I'm
- 21:22Speaker 1: heading to more of your messages in just a little bit.
- 21:25Speaker 1: B. Saying hi over here to Ped, Pedro. You said, hi, Sonia,
- 21:30Speaker 1: I would choose tennis. I think it'd be a great
- 21:32Speaker 1: sport to pick up because it challenges you physically and mentally.
- 21:36Speaker 1: If I had the time, I want to learn it properly,
- 21:38Speaker 1: from the basics of footwork and technique, understanding strategy, staying
- 21:42Speaker 1: calm under pressure.
- 21:44Speaker 1: But more than just being good at it, I want
- 21:45Speaker 1: to reach a level where I can play a competitive
- 21:47Speaker 1: match and enjoy the challenge, keep improving over time. It's
- 21:51Speaker 1: also such a great way to stay active and meet
- 21:53Speaker 1: people and have something meaningful to work towards. To be honest,
- 21:56Speaker 1: you know, that's how I feel about paddle. I mean,
- 21:58Speaker 1: paddle is a bit easier to pick up than tennis,
- 22:00Speaker 1: I believe, and I think tennis players who, uh, try
- 22:03Speaker 1: to play paddle, they do have different strokes and strategies,
- 22:07Speaker 1: and of course, the tennis court is much bigger, right?
- 22:10Speaker 1: But if you have that, the basics, I think picking
- 22:12Speaker 1: up something like paddle is a lot easier, but just
- 22:14Speaker 1: something for you to try, Pedro, why not, right? I mean,
- 22:17Speaker 1: look at me. I have zero hand-eye coordination and I
- 22:19Speaker 1: can sort of play paddle, not competitively. I think that
- 22:22Speaker 1: freaks me out. I, I still get a bit scared.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, I don't know how people do it.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Like I can speak in front of a crowd of
- 22:28Speaker 1: 5000 people, but I can't play a match.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I can't play a match, so.
- 22:35Speaker 1: That definitely scares me, um, but thank you for your message. OK,
- 22:39Speaker 1: so more of it coming through right now.
- 22:43Speaker 1: One, I think we're saying hi over here to John.
- 22:47Speaker 1: You see, I have the time, but my will is
- 22:49Speaker 1: weak because I'm scared to death. I want to talk,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I want, I'm talking about Parkour. I'm always fascinated about
- 22:55Speaker 1: how aerodynamic the moments are. You look like a superhero
- 22:59Speaker 1: and um I really just for now appreciate it from
- 23:02Speaker 1: a distance. You're right. Parkour is, um, wow, something of
- 23:05Speaker 1: a different level altogether. So it's, it's pretty, pretty crazy.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I don't think I could do it, even if you're
- 23:10Speaker 1: like nimble and stuff, right?
- 23:12Speaker 1: OK, Nadia is on the line right now. What do
- 23:14Speaker 1: you think, Nadia? What kind of sport would you want
- 23:16Speaker 1: to pick up?
- 23:17Speaker 2: I'll
- 23:17Speaker 2: probably be a triathlete. I'll do triathlon. Wow,
- 23:21Speaker 1: that's a lot. That's intense. Are you anywhere close to
- 23:24Speaker 1: being a triathlete?
- 23:25Speaker 2: I still hate running though.
- 23:27Speaker 2: So that's the first obstacle. I got to get through it.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Me too I want to do it because I just
- 23:32Speaker 2: want to, you know, convince myself that I can do
- 23:34Speaker 2: hard things.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I think, you know, when it comes down
- 23:37Speaker 1: to endurance related sports, it's very much a mental thing, right?
- 23:42Speaker 1: Like you want to prove to yourself that I can
- 23:44Speaker 1: do this at this time of my life. But OK, you,
- 23:48Speaker 1: you said triathlons and you know.
- 23:49Speaker 1: You mentioned you don't like running. So what about the
- 23:52Speaker 1: other two, like swimming, cycling? Are you good with that?
- 23:54Speaker 2: I have
- 23:54Speaker 2: a fear of open water. I can swimming at the
- 23:57Speaker 2: swimming pool, but that's another obstacle that I have to
- 24:01Speaker 2: get through as
- 24:01Speaker 2: well. OK,
- 24:02Speaker 1: OK, so then what do you do now if you're,
- 24:05Speaker 1: you know, you're not there yet in terms of being
- 24:07Speaker 1: a triathlete.
- 24:09Speaker 2: What exercises?
- 24:10Speaker 2: I, I'm, I'm still trying to convince myself to, to
- 24:14Speaker 2: like running. I, I, I, I will do away with
- 24:16Speaker 2: the thing that, you know, motivation is no longer there.
- 24:19Speaker 2: You just got to keep showing up
- 24:21Speaker 2: for your run.
- 24:22Speaker 1: OK, so we're still at the thinking stage. The intention
- 24:25Speaker 1: is there.
- 24:26Speaker 2: The intention
- 24:27Speaker 2: is there.
- 24:28Speaker 2: trying to get
- 24:29Speaker 2: used to it. Exactly.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Every time I'm like, you know what, my mind is willing,
- 24:33Speaker 1: but my body cannot lah.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Mind is willing but soul is weak.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Exactly,
- 24:39Speaker 2: girl, you nailed it.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Yesterday, accidentally getting myself into a boxing class and I
- 24:44Speaker 1: think now my pinky kind of hurts. Maybe I punched
- 24:46Speaker 1: too hard on the punching bag and my shins are bruised, OK?
- 24:50Speaker 1: Like literally, I'm gonna take a photo and like post
- 24:53Speaker 1: it up on IGS later. They're actually bruised, which shows
- 24:56Speaker 1: you like how hard I was kicking, yeah.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Um, I asked you that question. What kind of sport
- 25:00Speaker 1: you want to pick up if you have the free
- 25:02Speaker 1: will in time. Say hi to Nizam. You said morning sons.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Someone said horseback riding earlier. I'm gonna one up that
- 25:07Speaker 1: with polo. It's like horseback riding plus hockey in some way.
- 25:12Speaker 1: How am I supposed to do that? The hand-eye coordination
- 25:14Speaker 1: is next level and
- 25:16Speaker 1: Oh, man, um, I, I, I really feel like I,
- 25:20Speaker 1: the amount of time taken to play properly, first you
- 25:22Speaker 1: have to learn how to ride, hit the ball, do
- 25:24Speaker 1: everything together. It'll take years before you can even hit
- 25:27Speaker 1: a ball on the horse's back. I completely agree. I mean,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I honestly don't know like how people do that. My
- 25:32Speaker 1: hand-eye coordination is non-existent, OK? In fact, yesterday when they
- 25:36Speaker 1: were saying, OK, like, um, a jab, left hook with.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Jab, something jab, jab, hook, hook and kick or I
- 25:45Speaker 1: don't know what combination it was. I was like, hold up,
- 25:48Speaker 1: I need to see that again because I completely missed it. OK,
- 25:52Speaker 1: saying hi here as well to Jamie. I'll choose fencing.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I like how it changes your stamina and mind. It
- 25:58Speaker 1: requires fast thinking, strategy and agility. It's like physical chess
- 26:02Speaker 1: and I find it so cool to hold the foil.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I had a friend in secondary school that did
- 26:08Speaker 1: fencing and I thought it was the coolest thing ever
- 26:10Speaker 1: when she brought like her gear because she had to
- 26:12Speaker 1: go for class after school. I'm like, wow, that's so cool.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I'm like, that, that looks like, you know, you're down
- 26:17Speaker 1: for business, that you're a spy or something, which coincidentally,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I'm also bad at.
- 26:23Speaker 1: OK, um, last few messages coming up. Oh, we're still
- 26:25Speaker 1: in the midst of reading out some of your messages.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Are there too many? I'm so sorry if I didn't
- 26:30Speaker 1: manage to read yours out, but I'll squeeze in a
- 26:32Speaker 1: few more before we wrap it up and award a winner.
- 26:35Speaker 1: The question today based off my experience going for a
- 26:37Speaker 1: boxing class for the first time ever yesterday, is, if
- 26:40Speaker 1: you had the free will and time to pick up
- 26:42Speaker 1: a sport and be good at it, now, in this
- 26:44Speaker 1: time of your life, what would it be? You can
- 26:45Speaker 1: get creative. Um, saying hi here to, I think your
- 26:49Speaker 1: name is Tri Trisha.
- 26:52Speaker 1: He said, morning, Sonia. If I could learn any sport
- 26:54Speaker 1: right now, it would be taekwondo, judo, or karate. Um, now,
- 26:58Speaker 1: this is a bit personal, but I've had my own
- 27:00Speaker 1: experiences in many times of my life, and I always
- 27:03Speaker 1: regret not learning martial arts to protect myself. With the
- 27:06Speaker 1: amount of harassment cases recently as well, I think everyone
- 27:09Speaker 1: could benefit from taking up things like taekwondo, judo, or
- 27:12Speaker 1: maybe other self-defense classes. No, you are so right. Actually,
- 27:16Speaker 1: yesterday when I was in the, in the boxing class, right?
- 27:19Speaker 1: I thought about that too. I'm like, OK, I mean,
- 27:21Speaker 1: this isn't exactly self-defense, but it's like basics, right? And
- 27:25Speaker 1: it could help you in a situation where you want
- 27:28Speaker 1: to like, defend yourself and run or something, you know,
- 27:30Speaker 1: and I just, I guess here in Singapore, we never
- 27:33Speaker 1: really think about that or we always overlook it until
- 27:36Speaker 1: you see what's going on in other parts of the world,
- 27:38Speaker 1: then you're like, OK, I think self-defense is very, very important.
- 27:42Speaker 1: OK, more messages coming through right now. Felicia says, Morning, Sonia.
- 27:47Speaker 1: My father recently retired, so I asked him what sport
- 27:49Speaker 1: he would like to take up now he has more
- 27:51Speaker 1: free time. He chose swimming. Now, swimming actually is good
- 27:55Speaker 1: for improving overall health, keeps all four limbs active, provides
- 27:58Speaker 1: good full body workout. Um, since my dad has stopped
- 28:01Speaker 1: dyeing his hair as well, he doesn't have to worry
- 28:03Speaker 1: about the color fading. He feels that swimming is the
- 28:06Speaker 1: sport he really wants to do at this stage of
- 28:08Speaker 1: his life. Now that he has both the
- 28:10Speaker 1: Time and the minimum finance, he's able to enjoy and
- 28:13Speaker 1: take better care of his health. I love that. That's great.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Thank you. OK, B says kite foiling. Thanks to Max
- 28:20Speaker 1: Mader for introducing this fun sport, part surfing, part flying.
- 28:24Speaker 1: What's there not to like? OK, um, squeezing in one
- 28:28Speaker 1: last one from Sophia. Hey, Sonia, is high rocks counted?
- 28:31Speaker 1: I want to pick that up and join because not
- 28:32Speaker 1: gonna lie, the photos and videos of super hot participants
- 28:36Speaker 1: are serious thirst traps.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Yeah, because that's the main point and the priority of sports, right?
- 28:42Speaker 1: Manifesting that when I join, I can find my future
- 28:44Speaker 1: husband there. On a more serious and practical note, Hirock
- 28:47Speaker 1: is a very intensive workout that can build aerobic capacity
- 28:51Speaker 1: and muscular strength. I can kill two birds with one stone.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Make that 3 birds with one stone if you find
- 28:56Speaker 1: your husband there.
- 28:58Speaker 1: OK, when we come back, one person is walking away
- 29:01Speaker 1: a winner. Find out who. uh, so many messages and
- 29:05Speaker 1: stories coming through today about the sport that you wouldn't
- 29:07Speaker 1: mind picking up now if you had the free will
- 29:10Speaker 1: and time. Only one person can walk away with it though,
- 29:13Speaker 1: and it goes to Sophia, congratulations. You are today's winner.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Please catch up with all the entertaining stories on me
- 29:23Speaker 1: Listen and Spotify. It will be up after the show,
- 29:26Speaker 1: but Sophia, you're walking away with a dining experience for
- 29:28Speaker 1: two at Peppermints at Park Royal Collection, Marina Bay, a
- 29:32Speaker 1: halal certified buffet restaurant with their signature seafood and lobster
- 29:36Speaker 1: laksa Tower.
- 29:37Speaker 1: And a dessert spread that includes the ever popular signature
- 29:40Speaker 1: durian punga. So good. Please check them out on Instagram
- 29:43Speaker 1: as well. Park Royal Collection, Marina Bay. We got a
- 29:46Speaker 1: sneak peek into the rejuvenated Istana Park. I mean, the
- 29:50Speaker 1: full vision is going to be shared in 2027 and
- 29:52Speaker 1: I think they are definitely working on it already. It
- 29:56Speaker 1: will be more than 3 times its current size and
- 29:59Speaker 1: potentially connected to the Istana grounds. How interesting is that, right?
- 30:04Speaker 1: This is all according to our friends over at N
- 30:06Speaker 1: Parks and
- 30:07Speaker 1: They're trying to transform Orchard Road into a very green
- 30:09Speaker 1: oasis that's family-friendly as well, straight in the heart of
- 30:12Speaker 1: the city. I mean, I think we've seen some um
- 30:16Speaker 1: artist impressions or sketches before of what might happen to it,
- 30:20Speaker 1: but the full, full, full vision will be shared next year.
- 30:24Speaker 1: It'll be really cool because I think our friends over
- 30:26Speaker 1: at STB and URA and M Parks are like working
- 30:29Speaker 1: very hard on this. They are.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Uh, from, from what it looks like from these artists impressions,
- 30:34Speaker 1: can I just say, it could potentially look like a
- 30:38Speaker 1: mini Central Park. You know what, you know where I'm
- 30:40Speaker 1: going with that? Like if you've been to New York before,
- 30:43Speaker 1: and if you had the chance to see Central Park
- 30:44Speaker 1: from up above, like from a building or something, it
- 30:47Speaker 1: kinda is giving that vibe, and I like it. I
- 30:50Speaker 1: like it. It's, uh, it'll be really cool to be
- 30:53Speaker 1: able to access all these places and the existing stretch
- 30:56Speaker 1: of Orchard Road.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Between Buoyong Road and Handy Road is going to be
- 31:00Speaker 1: transformed into like a pedestrian activity promenade. So, well, like
- 31:04Speaker 1: promenade like Bridgerton, you can walk around. They call it promenade, right?
- 31:08Speaker 1: Like where you just walk around and people watch or whatever.
- 31:11Speaker 1: There's going to be lots of playgrounds. Uh, there's a
- 31:13Speaker 1: garden dedicated to honoring Singapore women as well. I, I
- 31:17Speaker 1: need to know what that's about, but it will celebrate
- 31:20Speaker 1: the pioneering spirit and contributions of Singapore women. I love that.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I will be in that garden like all the time.
- 31:27Speaker 1: So it's honestly very exciting project and we cannot wait
- 31:30Speaker 1: to see what other programs and activities will be there.
- 31:33Speaker 1: And time for some food-related news here. Very unfortunate one,
- 31:36Speaker 1: especially if you're familiar with the areas of Bugis and Kovan.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Perhaps you live around there, or you go to school
- 31:41Speaker 1: or work around the area. This gelato shop has been
- 31:44Speaker 1: there for 21 years, and they are homegrown, by the way,
- 31:48Speaker 1: Singaporean brand is called Tom's Palate.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Unfortunately, they've decided that they might have to shut down.
- 31:56Speaker 1: They are looking for a successor, but um saying hi
- 31:59Speaker 1: to the co-owner here, Faith Yap, who has done a
- 32:01Speaker 1: few interviews already, like for 8 Days Eat as well.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Um, the recipes still sit in her laptop, apparently. The
- 32:08Speaker 1: equipment have been listed on Carousel. The brand is just
- 32:11Speaker 1: seared into her memory, but, um, the impending shutdown is
- 32:15Speaker 1: very scary because of the increasing cost of rent and
- 32:17Speaker 1: manpower challenges. It may really shut down if they cannot
- 32:21Speaker 1: find a buyer or, you know, a successor. So it
- 32:25Speaker 1: was very sad because it's a very well-loved brand, and
- 32:27Speaker 1: they just announced it like 2 days ago or, or yeah,
- 32:30Speaker 1: a day or two ago, that it plans to shutter
- 32:32Speaker 1: its outlets in Bugis and Kovan.
- 32:35Speaker 1: By, uh, by the time October comes, after 21 long
- 32:38Speaker 1: years in the business, I mean, that's like someone's entire life,
- 32:41Speaker 1: you know, and I think a lot of students who
- 32:43Speaker 1: live around Bugis State will be familiar with Thomas Pallard
- 32:45Speaker 1: for sure. Um, I think she mentioned that there are
- 32:48Speaker 1: interested parties that approach them, so they're in the process
- 32:50Speaker 1: of filtering it and seeing if it fits their needs
- 32:54Speaker 1: and if it works for them. So, um, it's very sad,
- 32:58Speaker 1: sad to hear that a lot of your beloved homegrown
- 33:01Speaker 1: brands are considering closing things down.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I mean, not just them, but many others that we've read,
- 33:07Speaker 1: you know, in the news over the past few months
- 33:09Speaker 1: or even in the past year or so. So if
- 33:11Speaker 1: you want to just go enjoy it before they make
- 33:14Speaker 1: a decision and, you know, we won't rule out the
- 33:16Speaker 1: possibility that they're going to stay, but in the meantime,
- 33:18Speaker 1: if you really love them, please show them some support.
- 33:21Speaker 1: It's at 51 Middle Road and also Block 212 Hougang
- 33:25Speaker 1: Street 21, and both outlets for now, are expected to
- 33:29Speaker 1: close around October 18th, unless we hear some good news.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Fingers crossed for them, please.
