- 0:003 lifelong friends, 6 trusty balls and endless NFL ticks.
- 0:05Welcome to three guys 6 balls NFL podcast.
- 0:08Welcome to episode 46 of three guys 6 balls NFL podcast.
- 0:11I'm your host Joel and I'm here with my two usual Co host Will
- 0:14and Avery. Just want to start this episode
- 0:17by saying Congrats to the Rams, Seahawks, Broncos and Patriots
- 0:21for making it to the conference championship games.
- 0:24I also want to start this episode by giving a couple shout
- 0:26outs and I want to start by shouting out Avery for the
- 0:30creation of his new hit TV series The Real Housewives of
- 0:34the Browns. That was the best post we've
- 0:41ever had on social media, on YouTube.
- 0:43It got over 14,000 views, a whole bunch of comments.
- 0:47That is by far the best social media post we've ever had on any
- 0:50platform. So Congrats to Avery for the
- 0:53creation of his new hit TV series.
- 0:56Not even because it was a good take, but because a lot of
- 0:59people disagreed with it and said like, that's exactly,
- 1:01that's a, that's a weak take and like still commented.
- 1:06Bitch, I also want to give a shout out to everybody who's
- 1:12been engaging with our content on social media.
- 1:15We've seen a huge increase not just on that post, but on all
- 1:18posts in general with comments and shares, likes, everything,
- 1:22just all around engagement from everybody.
- 1:24So shout out to even the haters. We appreciate you guys too
- 1:28because negative engagement is still engagement.
- 1:31What about the Eagles? We appreciate it.
- 1:32Screw them. While we're in this moment here,
- 1:37I would like to take a second to apologize specifically to
- 1:40absolutely nobody. No, no, specifically to Avery's
- 1:45dad and family and anybody else who's just overall against
- 1:49swearing. I dropped a hard F word last
- 1:52week. Fortunately, the Rams won,
- 1:54right? If I do that and the Rams lose,
- 1:57boy howdy am I in for it. But hey, they won.
- 2:00So I still hate the Bears. Just I'll doubt it back.
- 2:04That's my bad. I won't.
- 2:05I don't need to be doing that out here.
- 2:09Yeah, I don't know how you knew that, Will, but my last shout
- 2:11out was going to be to Avery's dad, Dwayne, because he sits
- 2:15here every week and he listens to our episode, watches our
- 2:18show, and he deals with these two guys swearing.
- 2:21And it for anybody who's never listened to or watched this
- 2:25show, if you've ever heard us say, sorry, Dwayne, that's who
- 2:29they're talking to, is Avery. 'S my dad so.
- 2:31Shout out Dwayne. And we love him very much.
- 2:35Is our #1 fan. Unless someone else watches
- 2:38every minute of this show, then that you are also our #1 fan.
- 2:41Hi actually I hate Kirk Kirk my Co worker.
- 2:47There's no chains. Kirk well, not quite key on his
- 2:50Spotify rap was point OO 1% of our top listeners.
- 2:54So which means we have 1000 listeners now we have 1000
- 2:58listeners, guys, that's cool beans, right?
- 3:00That's cool. All right.
- 3:05Right. Well, I'm excited for today's
- 3:06episode, guys, because we got a lot of good stuff to talk about.
- 3:09We're going to talk about some of the recent divisional round
- 3:13games. We're going to recap some of
- 3:14those, talk about some controversial plays from those
- 3:17games. Then we're going to discuss
- 3:20where the teams that lost those games go from here.
- 3:23And then at the end, we're going to wrap up the episode by
- 3:26talking about the conference championship games.
- 3:28But before we do that, we're going to finish our fantasy
- 3:31ranking scores for the season. So we already did our
- 3:35quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends.
- 3:39And right now Will and Avery are tied with 19 points and I'm in
- 3:43the lead with 25 points. Just to review the scoring.
- 3:47How this works is we all gave our top 10 or top five rankings
- 3:51before the season started, and we're comparing them to how the
- 3:55actual top 10 or top five rankings finished at the end of
- 3:57the fantasy season. You get a point if you had a guy
- 4:01ranked in the top ten, anywhere in the top 10.
- 4:04You get 2 points if you had that guy ranked at the exact
- 4:07position, and you get 2 points if you were the only one who had
- 4:11that player ranked in the top 10.
- 4:13So we're going to start with the kickers here, and the actual top
- 4:20five kickers go like this. So one is Jason Myers, 2 is
- 4:24Kaimi Fairbairn, 3 is Brandon Aubrey, 4 is Cameron Dicker, and
- 4:29five is Cam Little. I'm sure I had Dicker in there.
- 4:32I don't remember these but I know I had him in there.
- 4:37All right, so Avery's top five kickers weren't like this.
- 4:42Number one, Cam little #2 Cameron Dicker, you were
- 4:46correct. You did have him in there.
- 4:48Number 3 is Andy Borgalis #4 not gay.
- 4:55Yeah, solid season. Solid season, all right.
- 4:59And #5 was Harrison Bucker. So Will's top five go like this.
- 5:06Number one. Brandon Aubrey #2, Jake Bates #3
- 5:10Jake Elliott #4 Cameron dicker #5 Marcus Aurelius.
- 5:17Oh, I missed that one. I remember that now.
- 5:22I was and then little. Upset, but the actual number 5
- 5:24was Chase McLaughlin. And then my top five kickers
- 5:27went like this. Number one, Brandon Aubrey #2
- 5:30Chris Boswell #3 Cameron dicker #4 Chase McLaughlin and #5 Kim
- 5:36Little. So the points for this round.
- 5:39Avery got two points because he had Cam Little in the top five
- 5:43and he had Cameron Dicker in the top five.
- 5:46Unfortunately, Matt Gay did not make the top five Fantasy Union
- 5:49kickers. And then phobia, man, that's
- 5:53what kept him out. The fantasy football, he made
- 5:56the top five fantasy, that's for sure.
- 6:02Different category he made it, you know he.
- 6:06Made Rivalry category. All right, and then Will got
- 6:13three points because he had Brandon Aubrey, Cameron Dicker
- 6:17at #4 That does put you in taking place.
- 6:21And then I got 4 points because I had Brandon Aubrey in the top
- 6:24five, Cameron Dicker and Cam Little at #5 so I got 2 points
- 6:28for that. All right, so final round
- 6:31fantasy defenses. So the actual top five goes
- 6:34Seahawks, Texans, Vikings, Jaguars, and Broncos.
- 6:39So Avery's top five were the Broncos, Eagles, Ravens,
- 6:43Vikings, and Lions. Wills were the Ravens, Broncos,
- 6:46Texans, Vikings, and Eagles. Mine were the Broncos, Vikings,
- 6:51Steelers, Ravens, and Texans. So Will and I tied with three
- 6:55points in this round, and Avery had two points.
- 6:59So the final scores. Avery had 23 points in last
- 7:02place. Michael Jordan.
- 7:03Will had 25 points in second place and I had 32 points in
- 7:08first. Place the kickers betrayed me.
- 7:11Yeah, that's what did it. All right, so let's move on to
- 7:21talk about some of these divisional games that just
- 7:23happened. We'll recap these games and
- 7:25within that we'll give some thoughts on where these teams go
- 7:29next, the teams that lost, where these teams go next.
- 7:31So let's just actually before we start, I got asked a question
- 7:36because I know we're going to end up here anyway, so we might
- 7:38as well just start with this and combine it from two different
- 7:40games. Was the Brandon Cooks play a
- 7:42catch or an interception and was the Devante Adams play a catch
- 7:46or an interception? Will, what do you think?
- 7:49Oh, you're starting with me. OK.
- 7:50I think the Brandon Cooks play was a catch down by contact and
- 7:58the Devante Adams play they called correctly catch down by
- 8:02contact. I think it should have been the
- 8:03same result in both place. I actually think because of the
- 8:07Brandon Cooks play, we got the results we got in the Texans
- 8:11game. There was a catch there that
- 8:13they ripped the ball out and then it fumble and I don't think
- 8:16they recovered it and I think he recovered it from the Patriots
- 8:19recovered I don't remember who. And then as well the Rams game
- 8:23with Devante Adams. I think that the NFL sent a
- 8:26memo, maybe the NFL Reference Association sent a memo out to
- 8:29the two crews on the following games, maybe even the Seahawks
- 8:33game as well as though there wasn't a lot of conference in
- 8:35that game of a hey, this was inaccurate.
- 8:39If something like this happens, you have to stop the game and
- 8:43actually review it. Don't actually review that
- 8:45turnover, actually review that kind of turnover.
- 8:48I think I, I mean Brandon Coax gets two hands on the ball as
- 8:53he's going to the ground, he gets 2 feet down and yet as he's
- 8:56going to the ground in the process of making a catch, if
- 9:00that defender wasn't there, he makes the catch, right?
- 9:03It's not like the ground caused the ball to pop out.
- 9:05So we're not talking about surviving the ground here.
- 9:07He had two hands on the ball, body on the ground and then the
- 9:11ball gets ripped out and ends up in the defenders hand He throws.
- 9:15McLaughlin is the guy's name for for Denver.
- 9:19They got the ball there. I cannot believe that they
- 9:22actually not even reviewed that. It was a turnover.
- 9:23So they had to review it, but they didn't.
- 9:26And even Sean McDermott in overtime called a time out like
- 9:30like, hey, you got to do something about you can't just
- 9:33move on here. You have to actually at least do
- 9:36the pomp and circumstance make it look like you were at
- 9:39minimum. So I, I here's my take on that
- 9:44play. I think that crew doing that
- 9:47game now this is this is 75% satire.
- 9:51So let me go in with that. I think the crew doing that game
- 9:55that was in the last game of the season, I've already talked
- 9:57about this. The refing contract is up after
- 10:01the season. They're about to go and you
- 10:03collect the bargaining and the refing association, the refing
- 10:05union is about to go into new negotiations with the NFL on
- 10:09their new deal today. And so this is this game's this
- 10:13cruise last game. They're not doing the Super
- 10:15Bowl, I would assume. And so this was our last game.
- 10:18The game is in overtime. They're like, no, we're ending
- 10:21this thing. We are calling it done.
- 10:24Go on the other way. Don't even care.
- 10:26We're not taking the time to review it.
- 10:29Pastor friends, pastor friends, roughly the password.
- 10:31Get another field, get them in the end zone.
- 10:32We're not doing this game because I do believe that that
- 10:35was the Bills first possession. Yeah.
- 10:38Or or or was it next score wins already at that point?
- 10:41I don't think it was next score wins at that point.
- 10:43I think the the charger the ball anyway.
- 10:47And so it was a let's get the Broncos the ball now get them
- 10:51down the field as fast as we can and let's get this game over
- 10:53with. We are we worked four quarters
- 10:56in our last game already. We're not working a fifth one.
- 10:58Let's get out of here. Now that is mostly satire, but
- 11:02the fact that they didn't call a pass and friends call until
- 11:04overtime and in that turn away that turnover wins.
- 11:07I, I think it was the, I'm not beg to complain about the refs
- 11:13having such a big effect on games, but there's no way for me
- 11:16to overlook this one. That, that they, they did not
- 11:19take enough time to look at it. And I think because of it we got
- 11:22a different call twice on Sunday.
- 11:24So I I think it was a catch by by Brandy Cokes and down by
- 11:28contact. What do you think, Avery?
- 11:30I think the refs got both of these right.
- 11:32I agree with Joe Burrow here. I will say that like because of
- 11:38the gravity of the call and the play, I would appreciate if the
- 11:43refs did give it more time to look at it and then come away
- 11:47with the correct thing. I feel like in general, when it
- 11:50comes down to that, I'm thinking kind of the same thing with like
- 11:53that Saints play from like, jeez, now it's been like a
- 11:56decade, hasn't it? That blatant pass interference
- 11:59call, it didn't get called like I, I, I think for these, it's
- 12:02like, look, it would give a lot of people more peace and peace,
- 12:06Peace of Mind if you just did look at it.
- 12:08I didn't like that they just kind of rushed it and the coach
- 12:10is just kind of like just looking around like, dude, or
- 12:12was that, is that it? However, I feel like there's
- 12:16this, I mean, wasn't it the, I could be totally wrong here.
- 12:19Dez Bryant's catch against the Packers again a decade ago where
- 12:24it was this thing where it's like Kay, there's this element
- 12:27of like, you have to kind of maintain control.
- 12:30However, with this, it's like Kay, he had it in his hands, but
- 12:34the defender had his hands on it, too.
- 12:35And the way I was taught was like when that ball's in the
- 12:38air, like it's anybody's ball, like anyone can come away with
- 12:42it. Now, granted, if the defenders
- 12:44not looking at the ball and, and, you know, clawing at the
- 12:46receiver, obviously that's something different.
- 12:48But when you both go down and you each have two hands on it
- 12:52and then you roll over and one guy comes away with it, that to
- 12:56me like, 'cause it's all within 1/2 a second like cable, he got
- 12:58the ball. Like, so to me, I see that and
- 13:03I'm like, now that wasn't enough time to go down.
- 13:06If it's something where it's like it's the same thing of
- 13:08going out of bounds. If I catch the ball as I'm going
- 13:11out of bounds, like, oh, did he like continue to have possession
- 13:15of it? But because really it's like as
- 13:17soon as again, that was the Dez thing was like he got it and
- 13:19then let go. I think Calvin Johnson did the
- 13:21same thing. We're like, hey dude, I'm a
- 13:23receiver, I catch balls. How much longer does this need
- 13:26to be in my hands before you can recognize that I did in fact
- 13:30catch this? But when I see that, I'm like,
- 13:31you had it in your hands, but so did the defender.
- 13:34And then after you hit the ground, the defender came up
- 13:36with and I'm like, as far as I'm concerned, like you both had
- 13:39possession of it. You both had your hands on it.
- 13:42The defender's knee also touched the ground.
- 13:44Was that a catch? Was that an interception for him
- 13:46when he touched the ground? So when I see that, I, I kind of
- 13:48feel like if after you've gone out of bounds, you still have to
- 13:52hold on to it. I'm like, OK, if you're, if it's
- 13:54a jump ball and you all grab your grab onto the ball, at that
- 13:57point it's like who comes away with it?
- 13:59It's the same with a fumble, like a fumble, the ball's
- 14:01rolling around. It doesn't matter if a guy gets
- 14:04it and his his knees on the ground.
- 14:06If that ball slides back out, even if he had possession for a
- 14:09split second, it's still a fumble.
- 14:10It's like 10 seconds after the fumble is recovered that the
- 14:14refs get in there and see who has it.
- 14:16So that's how I see it. I feel, I genuinely feel like,
- 14:19like it was heartbreaking and I didn't like that they just
- 14:21glossed over it. But I, I do think that the refs
- 14:25got both of those calls right. And the boot tastes great.
- 14:28The boot tastes great by the way, someone will get that.
- 14:34I did not. I do wait.
- 14:35Bootlegger. Whatever.
- 14:37The only thing I'd like to interject there Avery is that in
- 14:40the rules in the actual rule book, it says joint possession
- 14:44sticks with whoever had possession And so if receiver so
- 14:49like like like in baseball tie. So it wasn't joint possession
- 14:52and that doesn't make any sense. Right, so.
- 14:54Joint possession is whoever had it first.
- 14:56It's like so it wasn't joint. No, no, whoever was possessed,
- 14:59not whoever had it first. Whoever team was.
- 15:01Possessed. If it's a tie, yeah, it's like
- 15:03if it's a tie, it goes to the passing team.
- 15:06Yeah, tie goes to the run, Yeah. But it wasn't a tie either.
- 15:08When it was, yeah, you just said it was a tie.
- 15:10They both had possession at the same time and they both were
- 15:12down by contact. You just said that your words,
- 15:15your words were both. No, no, I, I know.
- 15:18I understand what you're saying. I understand and both go.
- 15:20Down on the ground. But I mean, it's the same thing.
- 15:22If you catch the ball, you have possession, you get 2 feet down,
- 15:27you have possession and you're inbounds, and then you fall out
- 15:30of bounds and drop the ball. It's the same deal.
- 15:33It's like, well, he had possession.
- 15:34It's like, yeah, but you didn't control it.
- 15:36You didn't control it, and if that's like, you never had
- 15:40control of it because he came away with it.
- 15:42This is different than surviving around because because the
- 15:45ground did not cause the ball to come out.
- 15:47He was on his way down, but the the being on the ground did not
- 15:51make the ball come loose. He was two hands on the ball, 2
- 15:56feet down and bounce in the middle of the field, body on the
- 16:00ground, down by contact, and then the defender gained full
- 16:04possession of that ball. Let me wait.
- 16:07Let me, let me, let me, let me think, let me humor me for a
- 16:10SEC. Let's say that the defender was
- 16:13never there, but everything else happened the same way.
- 16:17The ball came in, he caught it goes to the ball and, and, and
- 16:20where the ball went, it went. Would that have been a catch?
- 16:24OK, so. If remove the defender from the
- 16:27picture, is that a? Is that a completion,
- 16:29incompletion or a fumble? So in this in this, he's going
- 16:32down to the ground, hypothetical rolls over and the ball comes
- 16:35out. Yeah, everything is the exact
- 16:38same. It's even with the ball like
- 16:40kind of floating away. Right, incomplete.
- 16:42Pass. OK, so he never had completion
- 16:44then, right? I disagree.
- 16:47You take away the defender. It wasn't a complete pass.
- 16:49Well, if you take away the defender, the ball doesn't get
- 16:51ripped out of his hands, but. What I'm saying is, but what I'm
- 16:54saying is if he wasn't there and the ball still got ripped away
- 16:57at the same time, it's an incomplete pass.
- 17:00So if it's incomplete pass without the defender there, how
- 17:02on earth is it a completed pass with the defender there?
- 17:06Because without the defender there, that ball doesn't come
- 17:08out of his hands. So in your in your hypothetical,
- 17:12that would be incomplete. But in reality, where they both
- 17:16had we'll, we'll call it, they both had possession and both
- 17:19were down by contact right there.
- 17:21Ty goes to the offense, but that's what I'm saying he
- 17:23wouldn't. Have been down by.
- 17:24He wouldn't have been down though.
- 17:26He would have been. I mean, I guess.
- 17:28Both bodies were on the ground. He would have been down.
- 17:30Both of them were down. No.
- 17:31What? No, what I'm saying is, is if
- 17:33the defender isn't there, but everything else happens the same
- 17:36like it. So basically in the same time it
- 17:39took for the defender to RIP the ball out, he just dropped the he
- 17:42let go of the ball. And I guess we could even go
- 17:46with with college rules or whatever because you technically
- 17:48have to be down by contact. So the defender there, it's
- 17:50technically just still a live ball.
- 17:51I guess whatever. But what I'm saying is like, so
- 17:54that wasn't enough time for him to be on the ground and maintain
- 17:57possession. Chains on the ball 2 feet down,
- 17:59hits the ground, rolls over in his back and then let's go to
- 18:02the ball. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:03I'm calling on detect, but he I'm not just going back on what
- 18:06I on what I just said, which I guess I technically am, but I
- 18:09think given the scenario where he rolls over in his back and
- 18:12then then the ball just magically flies out of his hand
- 18:15with two hands, I mean. It's it's a half, we're talking
- 18:17about 1/2 a second here, right, Right.
- 18:20Because I mean, I mean, I mean at that point, if he was going
- 18:22out of bounds, if it was there and then he he touches out of
- 18:25bounds and he lets go, they're like he didn't maintain control.
- 18:27The the main difference between these two is what you're talking
- 18:30about is surviving the ground. That's not what I'm talking
- 18:33about because that's not the argument here.
- 18:35The ball was ripped out of his hands by another human, by
- 18:37another person. It's.
- 18:39I, I, I, I know what he was saying is it wasn't a strip,
- 18:42but, but it wasn't like a strip fumble.
- 18:44It was. It absolutely was.
- 18:46There wasn't enough time for it to be.
- 18:48He didn't have any time to even make any football move.
- 18:50Is essentially the same thing though, because both guys had
- 18:53their their hands in the ball, both guys were down and then the
- 18:56Bronco player jumped up with the ball.
- 18:58OK, turnover, but I know that's what I'm.
- 19:01Saying is like, it's like if he was down there but let go, but
- 19:05if the defender wasn't there, the ball comes out and it's not
- 19:08a catch. It's just a completely different
- 19:10scenario. We were talking about surviving
- 19:12the ground versus who had possession.
- 19:15I know. But what I'm saying is even if,
- 19:17but, but if you did survive the ground, I mean, you don't have
- 19:19enough time. If that's not if you, if you
- 19:21have it and you let go, it's like, oh, he didn't survive the
- 19:23ground. It's like, yeah, because he
- 19:24didn't maintain it for long enough.
- 19:26That's the reason. Because if he did and then let
- 19:28go of it or whatever, then it'd be like a fumble.
- 19:30All I'm saying is that if if that if the defender wasn't
- 19:33there and he maintained his hands on the ball for the exact
- 19:37same amount of time, it would have been an incomplete pass.
- 19:40Like he didn't have it for long enough.
- 19:41Devante Adams I feel like had it for long enough where it was
- 19:44like if you let go then it would have been a fumble.
- 19:46That's my that's my perspective though.
- 19:48But I'm also not a ref. I'm just going on vibes and you
- 19:51guys know that. Well.
- 19:53I would like to make the argument here that both plays
- 19:56were interceptions or turnovers, however you want to call it.
- 20:00And the reason why I'm I'm, I'm basing this off of how the NFL
- 20:05has called other games that I've seen.
- 20:08During this regular season, and that's what I'm basing it off.
- 20:11You can't base anything off under games.
- 20:14But I'm also going to base it off of what the rules say.
- 20:17So take the the Devante Adams play.
- 20:19OK, so he catches the ball, he goes down and has possession and
- 20:23his knee hits the ground while he's being tackled.
- 20:25And then the guy rips it out, right?
- 20:27So here, I'm going to read you the rules that I printed off
- 20:30this page. I'm going to read you the exact
- 20:32wording in the rules for a completed pass.
- 20:35A player who makes a catch may advance the ball.
- 20:37A forward pass is complete by the offense or intercepted by
- 20:40the defense in the field of play at the sideline or in the end
- 20:43zone. If a player who is in bounds, A
- 20:46secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the
- 20:49ball touching the ground, and B touches the ground in bounds
- 20:53with both feet or with any part of his body other than his
- 20:56hands, which Devonte Adams did. But there's AC, and after A&B
- 21:01have been fulfilled, clearly performs any act common to the
- 21:04game. Example, extend the ball
- 21:07forward, take an additional step, tuck the ball away and
- 21:10turn up field or avoid or ward off and an opponent or he
- 21:14maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.
- 21:18So the only way that this could have been a completed pass by
- 21:20Devante Adams is if they deemed that he did an act common to the
- 21:24game. But what was that act?
- 21:27Getting tackled. That's what you can tackle,
- 21:29Yeah, that's the most common thing in the game.
- 21:30So then if that is the case, I would like to go back to the
- 21:33Bucks and Rams game where tight end Kate Auten for the Bucks
- 21:37juggled a pass, caught the ball, had possession of it and a Rams
- 21:42defender ripped the ball out of his hands while his knee was on
- 21:45the ground. If getting tackled is having an
- 21:49act common to the game, Tay Dalton was down in that game but
- 21:54they called it a pick 6. So based off of how that game
- 21:57was called, that Devante Adams play was also an interception.
- 22:02It was not a completed pass. I mean, getting tackled isn't
- 22:05actually an ad comment of the game.
- 22:07That's not what. I know.
- 22:08But that's what I'm, that's what I'm saying is that's what I'm
- 22:10saying is if there's no other act common to the game that
- 22:14Devante Adams completed, he had A&B in this scenario, but he did
- 22:18not have C, unless you count getting tackled.
- 22:21He did nothing else except for catch the ball and go down.
- 22:25He did no act come into the game.
- 22:28So how is that a completed pass based off of these rules?
- 22:32How is that a completed pass? I don't remember, I will say a
- 22:35specific play unfortunately. I need to read like that.
- 22:38I will say, though, I think the one thing we can all agree on is
- 22:42that there are massive inconsistencies in the way that
- 22:46these games and catches are officiated.
- 22:49I think that individual plays we can look at be like, I think
- 22:52this. I think that the problem is we
- 22:54don't have a solid standard. We don't have a gold standard we
- 22:58can look at. And so I think the real issue
- 23:00here is that there is an issue and it needs to be solved.
- 23:05And the only people that can solve it is the NFL, because
- 23:08otherwise you're going to get more of this.
- 23:09Everything is rigged. They're they're they're playing
- 23:13favorites when really I'm like, dude, I think these guys are
- 23:16trying the best they can. And I think they have a work
- 23:19culture that is not that transparent.
- 23:22And I don't think the rules are very great.
- 23:24And I think that there are dirty incentives for how they decide
- 23:29to officiate games because it is still just like college and NFL.
- 23:33There are tears to this and you get graded and I think there's a
- 23:36little bit of politics that we may not know, but Will might
- 23:39have some insight. I know he's not an NFL ref, but
- 23:43he might know more about like how these refs move up and what
- 23:47decides their pay and their position.
- 23:51I don't know if you I just. Put that open.
- 23:52No sure I know that. All I can speak for is the high
- 23:55school level and the association I ref with specifically.
- 23:58I know we get regularly film reviewed by our training staff
- 24:03on the association and we get grades based on our games and
- 24:08there's a mid season review where where our bio 4 gets
- 24:11reviewed and we get put into levels we're able to do.
- 24:15So in Oregon they've got 6 classifications of football 1A
- 24:18through 6A and in Oregon 1A football is either six men or
- 24:23eight men football. 2A football is 9 men football.
- 24:26You'll get to 11 men football until you get to 3A4A5 and 6A
- 24:31and 6A is the biggest. That's like the Portland
- 24:33schools, the same schools, Eugene school, actually not even
- 24:36all Eugene schools. Most Eugene schools are 6A.
- 24:38And so the better the referee you are, the higher quality
- 24:41classification a game you get. And just because it's a 6A game
- 24:45doesn't mean it's a better game than out like a 3A or A2A game.
- 24:49It depends on on like the teams that are playing because you
- 24:51could have the top three teams in the state playing a 3A game
- 24:54and or you get assigned to like some of the bottom teams in 6A.
- 24:57And so you we do regularly get graded on our body of work and
- 25:02we have to maintain a high standard of rule knowledge and
- 25:05enforcement on the field to be able to get better games.
- 25:09I think it's exactly why we saw the Big 12 referees in the
- 25:12national championship last night because of and there's the same
- 25:15ones that did the other college football playoffs because their
- 25:18body of work throughout the playoffs, throughout the rate in
- 25:20the season, having of standard high enough to officiate that
- 25:24game. They let the boys play last
- 25:25night at the college football national championship until a
- 25:28couple of questionable class and Even so much where Kirsten was
- 25:31like, yeah, let's get something done here.
- 25:33I think the same. It's the same all the way up.
- 25:36The problem is, is that the union the referees and the NFL
- 25:38have is so locked tight. They're not from what I hear, I
- 25:44don't know this first hand, but from what I hear from podcasts
- 25:46and things like that is that the NFL is not allowed to talk to
- 25:49the referees association until it's like it's like so pre
- 25:53seasons in August, I think it's like July, it's like from from
- 25:58February to July, you don't get to talk to us.
- 26:01We don't have to do any training.
- 26:02We're not doing any offseason stuff.
- 26:04We're doing our own thing. We have our own other jobs.
- 26:07We're they're not even full time employees.
- 26:10The NFL needs to absorb, I guess in my opinion, the NFL needs to
- 26:16absorb the referees. You into the NFL have full make
- 26:21these guys full time employees when it's offseason time, you're
- 26:24involved in Rule changes. You're involved in the winter
- 26:26meetings where the where the coaches are making rule changes.
- 26:29You're able to give and maybe not all the referees, but you're
- 26:33able to give opinions. Maybe like the head refs, like
- 26:36the like the the the regular White House, we see the the
- 26:39Hockey League, the the hussy that you know, the regular ones,
- 26:43you know him regular are able to be in those meetings and give
- 26:47opinion. What if we make this world
- 26:48change? This is a possible negative
- 26:50effect or this is a positive effect, And I I can't say that
- 26:53doesn't happen. It's possible there is someone
- 26:56from the reffing association, the refing even in those
- 26:59meetings, but I don't I I truly would not think so.
- 27:02It's only to brand man, get them trained up better.
- 27:04I think you have a better stable of referees and then I think
- 27:07just like players, just like coaches, just like team, just
- 27:11like owners. If a referee makes a bad call or
- 27:15makes a showboat you move or tries to make the game about
- 27:18them, they get suspended, they get fined, they get penalized.
- 27:22They they get financially penalized for they're
- 27:26wrongdoing. Like for instance, you brought
- 27:28up the Ramsey heart, excuse me, Rams Saints in FC championship
- 27:32game. The side judge that's staring
- 27:35right at that, that didn't make that call that due to the
- 27:38generation he's just gotten fired from being a referee
- 27:40forever. You are no longer going to
- 27:41officiate. No call I've ever seen.
- 27:43Yes, there are. There are referees who will keep
- 27:47the flight in their pocket and, and, and just for no reason, you
- 27:52see it happen. At least it looks like you see
- 27:54it happen. And I can, I can tell first hand
- 27:57sometimes watching on film, it looks like you're looking right
- 27:59at it when really you're working through it.
- 28:02And so you don't that you're too close to see it.
- 28:04I've had that happen where people were like, how did you
- 28:06not see this happen right in front of you?
- 28:08I'll say, well, actually this is what I was.
- 28:10I understand where it looks like my hat's pointed.
- 28:12This is what I was actually working at.
- 28:13It's like, OK, well, I guess. But when you're at that level,
- 28:17you have to be able to see the entire section you're supposed
- 28:20to be looking at because not, there's a reason there's 8
- 28:22referees out there. There's 8 referees for 22
- 28:25players. Your job is not to watch all 22
- 28:28at the same time. You're only supposed to be
- 28:29watching your section, your keys, your people.
- 28:33So yeah, they, I do believe they do get graded and they do get
- 28:35dreads. But I, I think they need to be
- 28:37right into the actual NFL union umbrella with the players
- 28:41association and everything like that and held you a higher
- 28:44standard. I agree.
- 28:46All right. Do you guys have anything else
- 28:47to add on that before we move on?
- 28:48I liked that Avery and I were about, well, actually, all three
- 28:52of us were on different sides there and we all had the same
- 28:55conclusion. They should have taken more time
- 28:58to review these plays, all of them, every single time.
- 29:00They should have taken more time to review them anyway.
- 29:04All right, so let's go through the games individually and then
- 29:07we'll talk about what the eliminated team from those games
- 29:11like where they go from here. So well, let's start with you.
- 29:15If you have any thoughts on the Bills and Broncos, give us some
- 29:17thoughts on that game specifically and then let us
- 29:19know where do the Buffalo Bills go from here?
- 29:22I kind of shared it. My only real thought is that I
- 29:26don't like that the referees decided to put the flag in their
- 29:30pocket until the very end. I shared a screenshot in our our
- 29:33text chat. The field difference between
- 29:36these two was a bit egregious to me and they didn't call a single
- 29:40pass. No friends call until overtime
- 29:42and it was only against the Bill.
- 29:44I do think the Bills got screwed a bit here, but at the same
- 29:46time, Josh Allen had for the Bills had five turnovers and
- 29:49Josh Allen had four of them. You can't expect to win a game
- 29:53like that. That's just not going to happen.
- 29:54You have to play better. I think the Bills get the right
- 29:56coach in there. I think they need to draft a a
- 29:58wide receiver, a quality wide wide receiver this year.
- 30:01Quit trying the Patriot model where you have no wide receivers
- 30:05and you're just going to make it work.
- 30:06You're not Tom Brady and you got to quit relying so much on Josh
- 30:09Allen to do everything for you. You got to quit doing that.
- 30:12He's going to he's. That's exactly what I wrote
- 30:14down. He's what I wrote down is stop
- 30:16expecting Josh Allen to save you.
- 30:18Making a team game and also Josh Allen quit trying to do
- 30:21everything. You have 10 other players on the
- 30:24field. It's OK.
- 30:25They they can help. So I don't think they changed
- 30:28too much. You get the right coach in
- 30:30there. It's too bad Harbaugh is already
- 30:32hired by the Giants. I think Harbaugh in Buffalo
- 30:34would have been pretty good, but we'll see.
- 30:37Avery, any thoughts? Yeah, I mean, I, I thought, I
- 30:40thought Josh Allen had a bad game.
- 30:42I, I, I mean, he did literally have a bad game.
- 30:46What can happen whenever I, I think the Broncos, I mean credit
- 30:50to them. The big thing in this is, goes
- 30:53to what Will was saying, but I don't, I, I mean this generally
- 30:57not a big fan of when we point out how many flags got put on
- 31:01one team versus another. It, it would be one thing if, if
- 31:05we're like, this team had like 5 calls that I could look directly
- 31:09at me like that was a missed call or like they messed that
- 31:12up. And it, and there were way more,
- 31:15you know, fudged calls on this team versus that team.
- 31:18But like in general, I mean, and this is going back to yesterday,
- 31:21the Miami and Indiana game. I watched the whole thing and
- 31:24there was a part where they said, you know, Miami gets the
- 31:2610th most penalties out of any team.
- 31:29And they said Indiana gets the 10th least amount of penalties
- 31:32out of any team in college. And it played out that way where
- 31:36you see, you see these frustrations in the yeah, I, I'm
- 31:38sure as a Miami fan, you're getting frustrated, but it's
- 31:40also like, but you are committing these penalties.
- 31:43I'm sorry that Indiana isn't matching your, you know, lack of
- 31:48discipline here. But but for the most part, I'm
- 31:51not a big fan of, and I think I don't know the solution to this,
- 31:55but I really, really don't like the, it's not the punt throw.
- 32:00It's, it's, it's just when you throw it up there trying to get
- 32:04a flag, I don't like that at all.
- 32:07And I really, I really don't know how you would stop that.
- 32:11Like, maybe it's something where the refs have to be like, look,
- 32:15it's got to be a clear cut, you know, like we're going to be
- 32:18strict on this. If it's fourth down and you
- 32:20throw it up there, you know, or if it's third down and you're
- 32:23just trying to draw a flag, yeah.
- 32:26Like we're not, we're not just going to be passing those out
- 32:29like candy. You know, I don't like that at
- 32:32all. I mean, even even if it's a team
- 32:34I'm rooting for, seeing that, I'm like, OK, I wanted to
- 32:38actually beat you guys, not get bailed out by the refs and now
- 32:41have to hear the opposing fans say, oh, you paid the refs.
- 32:45Like it's not fun for anybody. It's the same as a friggin tie.
- 32:50No one wants to see that crap. Don't do it.
- 32:53Get rid of that. More than these past
- 32:55interference calls, more than these catches and receptions,
- 32:57Get rid of ties. Abolish ties.
- 32:59It's the last remnant of communism left in this country
- 33:02and I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it.
- 33:05I'm sick of it and I'm glad that it's a miracle that they that
- 33:08they don't allow ties in the playoffs.
- 33:09I'm almost surprised like, well, you guys can be Co champions, we
- 33:13can be Co managers. Anyway, I had to get that out of
- 33:16my system. It didn't happen recently, but
- 33:18again, it's it's. Pervasive.
- 33:25All right, so for for me, I already shared what I wrote
- 33:27down. I said for the Bills, stop
- 33:29expecting Josh Allen to save you.
- 33:31Josh Allen has continuously brought the Bills out of holes
- 33:34that they wouldn't have been able to come out of without him.
- 33:37But they need to surround Josh Allen with players who can do
- 33:40the same thing because he is the only one on that team who can
- 33:44bring that team out of a hole. You need to stop giving Josh
- 33:47Allen Khalil Shakur as his number one receiving option.
- 33:51He's a good player, but let's be real about what he isn't.
- 33:54He's not Jamar Chase, he's not Justin Jefferson.
- 33:57He's not that type of receiver. When that's your best receiver,
- 34:01exactly what do you expect Josh Allen to do?
- 34:03He's of course he's going to have to try and do some stuff
- 34:06where he's going to make some stupid mistakes because he has
- 34:08to. He doesn't have a choice.
- 34:09You don't have a game wrecker on defense.
- 34:12You don't have a Miles Gary. You don't have a Will Anderson
- 34:14type of player on defense. It's just Josh Allen.
- 34:17Stop expecting him to save you and build the team so that he
- 34:21doesn't have to save you every single time.
- 34:23The name of the team is not the Josh Allen's, it's the Buffalo
- 34:27Bills. Stop expecting Josh Allen to
- 34:30save you and actually build this team so that Josh Allen doesn't
- 34:33have to do everything. And also another thing I want to
- 34:35say that I would like to get your guys's opinion on after I
- 34:38say it. I've been seeing a lot of things
- 34:40on social media about people defining what Josh Allen's
- 34:44legacy is after this game, after another playoff loss.
- 34:48And to me, it's for anyone questioning Josh Allen's legacy,
- 34:53for anyone trying to define Josh Allen's legacy, stop.
- 34:56Just stop. Josh Allen is 29 years old.
- 35:00You can say what he has or hasn't done to this point in his
- 35:03career, but as far as legacy goes, his story is not over.
- 35:08You can't say that Josh Allen's legacy is this or it's that
- 35:11because the legacy is what you'd leave behind.
- 35:13It's how you'll be remembered. And I want to give 3 examples of
- 35:17other quarterbacks to show you why you can't define their
- 35:19legacy until their story is complete.
- 35:22Matthew Stafford played for the Lions for 12 seasons, made the
- 35:25playoffs three times, went O and three In those games he had a
- 35:29regular season record of 74 and 90.
- 35:32Before going to the Rams, Matthew Stafford won a Super
- 35:35Bowl at 34 years old. Drew Brees.
- 35:39Prior to winning the Super Bowl with the Saints, he had been a
- 35:41starter for seven years, made the playoffs twice, and went one
- 35:45and two in those playoff games. He had a regular season of 55
- 35:48and 51, so barely over 500. He did not win the Super Bowl
- 35:51until he was 31 years old. And then finally John Elway.
- 35:56He didn't win the Super Bowl until he was 37 years old.
- 36:00He had been to the Super Bowl 3 times, lost all three prior to
- 36:03winning two straight Super Bowls when he was 37 and 38.
- 36:07Right now, Josh Allen's legacy is being built, but it cannot be
- 36:11defined until his career is over.
- 36:14If we get to the point where Josh Allen retires and he
- 36:16doesn't win a Super Bowl, then come talk to me.
- 36:19But until then, just. Stop.
- 36:21Yeah, I, I, I'm this is. No one's going to like this
- 36:24take, but it's hard for me to get behind like unless you've
- 36:31genuinely proven yourself. What I'm talking about is like
- 36:34quarterbacks that are based purely on success.
- 36:37And I look at some quarterbacks that have had just bad teams,
- 36:41you know, like, I mean, even Matt Stafford and you know,
- 36:44Calvin Johnson and the Lions, it's like at least people have
- 36:47overcome like Calvin Johnson, despite playing on the Lions
- 36:50ones, like, oh, well, he didn't win, you know, any Super Bowls.
- 36:52Like dude was undeniable. He was great.
- 36:55The thing is with quarterbacks is they're based, they are
- 36:57judged based on wins. And you look at this and they
- 37:01are making the playoffs every year.
- 37:03They're a deep running team. They are a scary team every
- 37:06single year. And they come up short.
- 37:08This time, I would say like, yeah, the the turnovers were,
- 37:11you know, pretty rough. But also it's like that in a
- 37:16year we're going to move past that.
- 37:18If it if he wins the Super Bowl next year, no one's going to
- 37:20care. When you look at Tom Brady, it's
- 37:22like the fact that you wanted Tampa Bay and Belichick didn't
- 37:25because at the time, at the time, the sports world was a
- 37:29little divided on was this Tom Brady or was this Bill
- 37:32Belichick? And then we like all figured
- 37:34out. But I just feel like it is to
- 37:36Joel's credit, he is it's still very early.
- 37:39We haven't seen it yet. But even then, the Bills that
- 37:42went that won four straight AFC championships, It's like, dude,
- 37:46OK, you're the second best team four years in a row.
- 37:49I guess you can look at it as you lost the Super Bowl 4 years
- 37:52in a row if you want. But no one else has had that
- 37:55much success in that span of time.
- 37:57In those four years, no team collectively was better than the
- 38:00Buffalo Bills. Maybe the Cowboy, maybe the
- 38:03Cowboys at that time, But but yeah, I just, I, I look at it as
- 38:08far as like their individual body of work compared to what
- 38:11they were going up against. If you want to look at like
- 38:14winning, it's like then give them the keys to the Kingdom.
- 38:17Give them the let them draft the players, let them choose their
- 38:21coach. If that's how we're going to
- 38:22judge these players by how many championships they have, how
- 38:25they perform in, you know, in the postseason, like give them
- 38:28the keys to the Kingdom. Otherwise it's like, dude, they
- 38:30are an employee. Like this is the coach, this is
- 38:34the owners, this is the entire organization.
- 38:37Like depended on that is, is infantile at best.
- 38:41Anyway, go ahead Will. Excuse me, I'd like to add two
- 38:44things on to here. Going off whatever he said, the
- 38:47GM is responsible for building the roster, right?
- 38:51I think we can all agree with that.
- 38:53Brandon Bean, GM for the Buffalo Bills, just got promote it.
- 38:59He is GM. Have you not heard his favorite?
- 39:02This is new news. He is GM and director of player
- 39:06personnel. I think he is player operations,
- 39:08player personnel. He got an additional job.
- 39:11He got a new Sean McDermott coaching your butt off out here.
- 39:15Fired Brandon Bean hit build a roster.
- 39:19You know what we like what you're doing let's give you a
- 39:21promotion here, your job and the other job we like we like how
- 39:25much you're doing do more of it please So there's that
- 39:28additionally, this is so there are 18 regular season games, not
- 39:32kind of pre season, but let's just say Josh Allen didn't play
- 39:35in pre season. I don't know if it's true or
- 39:37not. It's not worth working out.
- 39:39So let's say 18 regular season games 2.
- 39:42Points 18 weeks. 17 games, 17 games, 17 games, and then two
- 39:48postseason games. So Josh Allen played nineteen
- 39:51games of football this year. I don't think he missed me this
- 39:53year, did he? No, no.
- 39:55So he. Was in he well in the last game
- 39:57of the season he played one snap so he could get this oh OK and
- 40:00then. Trisky went awe.
- 40:02Yeah, he did. So OK, so forgotten his.
- 40:06Performance. Josh Allen played eighteen games
- 40:09of football where he was doing everything for the entire team.
- 40:13It's no wonder. It's no wonder he had one bad
- 40:17game and it just happened to be the one that mattered the most.
- 40:20Like he put his body in the line a lot.
- 40:23Fernando Mendoza last night, diving on that fourth down, that
- 40:26was crazy baller. He drops down doing that in week
- 40:30one in the NFL season because he's got no one on his end to
- 40:33rely on. He's just out here trying to get
- 40:35a point, let alone 8/19/20 weeks later, I guess we'll try to win
- 40:41a divisional round. Additionally with that, here's a
- 40:43good transition for you, Joe, moving to the second game on
- 40:46Saturday, Seahawks, 49ers, same thing.
- 40:50You've got one player on that team now, Christian McCaffrey,
- 40:53who has done everything for you all season long.
- 40:56And then he did not play every game this season.
- 40:58I know that for sure. Actually, I don't know that for
- 41:01sure. Did he play every game this
- 41:02season? OK, pretty sure he did.
- 41:04You're right, This might be the first season in years that he's
- 41:06played every game this season. In that game, he's 11 carries
- 41:10for 35 yards. His body was broken down.
- 41:14He just could not handle. He couldn't handle 20 games.
- 41:18How 19 games is just ride my back, the entire team get on my
- 41:23back. I guess we're going.
- 41:24Eventually your legs give out. The black party had more rushing
- 41:28hours of Christian McCaffrey in in that game.
- 41:30Yeah, I agree. I wrote down the same thing for
- 41:32the 49ers as well. I actually wrote down two
- 41:34things, but that was one of them was build an offense where you
- 41:37don't have to be so reliant on Christian McCaffrey because he
- 41:40was your leading rusher and your leading receiver.
- 41:43You can take the name out of it, take build an offense that
- 41:45doesn't rely heavily on just one person when you're trying this
- 41:49situation or Christian McCaffrey.
- 41:50Doesn't matter. Right, right.
- 41:51But in this situation, it's Christian McCaffrey.
- 41:54And so the 49ers specifically have to build an offense that's
- 41:56not so reliant on Christian McCaffrey because he had 924
- 42:01receiving yards, which was leading the team.
- 42:03Their next leading receiver had 643.
- 42:06Christian McCaffrey was the leading receiver by 281 yards.
- 42:10You have to have more reliable guys to take the load off of
- 42:14Christian McCaffrey, because what happens when Christian
- 42:16McCaffrey gets hurt again? What happens when he's not there
- 42:20for eight games or 10 games or however many games it is?
- 42:23And 49ers fans will say, well, we have George Kittle and we
- 42:26have Ricky Pearsall. Great.
- 42:27Kittle missed six regular season games.
- 42:29Pearsall missed 8. So.
- 42:31How are you going to rely on those guys when they're not
- 42:32there? Well, and then you can't.
- 42:34We saw how it happened because in the divisional game, George
- 42:37Kittle out again, they didn't score a touchdown exactly.
- 42:39Did not score a touchdown exactly.
- 42:42In the last two games in Seattle, the Niners only scored
- 42:459 total points, eight quarters in football.
- 42:48And I have, I've just, I'll share my other thing that I
- 42:50wrote down for the 49ers in the Navy.
- 42:51You can give us some thoughts on this real quick.
- 42:53But I think the 49ers need to get better secondary pass
- 42:57rushers because they had the least amount of sacks in the
- 43:00league this year with 20 in the regular season.
- 43:02And 49ers fans will use the excuse that Nick Bosa wasn't
- 43:05there and he was hurt most of the year, which I get, I get
- 43:08that, but it's not an excuse for not having anyone else who can
- 43:11effectively rush the passer. The leading SAC guy for the
- 43:1349ers this year had 4 sacks. If you take a team like the
- 43:17Broncos who had 68 sacks as a team this year which led the
- 43:20league, and let's just say Nick Benito gets hurt who had 14
- 43:24sacks, that team goes from elite at rushing the passer to really
- 43:28good at rushing the passer. If you take away his 14 sacks,
- 43:31they go from 68 to 54 and 54 still would have been second in
- 43:36the league in sacks. So aside from Benito, the
- 43:39Broncos had three guys with seven or more sacks, another
- 43:42four guys with four sacks and another nine guys who had at
- 43:45least some sort of stat in the sack column.
- 43:48You have to get better secondary pass rushers if you're the 49ers
- 43:52because you cannot just rely on Nick Bosa on defense, just like
- 43:56you rely on Christian McCaffrey on offense.
- 43:58No, I, I, I kind of see the four as much as I do not like the
- 44:0349ers fans. I don't mind the 49ers as much,
- 44:06but I, I see this as like, dude, your guys entire team has been
- 44:10decimated and here you are playing Seattle in the playoffs.
- 44:15As far as I'm concerned, I'm like gay.
- 44:19I mean, it's a little bit of like that Buffalo Bills, you
- 44:22know, four time losers kind of situation where it's like, oh,
- 44:25here we are talking about the 49ers is like, yeah, because
- 44:28they're relevant because they made the playoffs, You know,
- 44:31like the Bucks. I mean, dude, there was a point
- 44:33in time when they were like, the Bucks are the best team in in
- 44:36NFL right now. Baker Mayfield is looking like
- 44:39an MVP. It's it, it's such a distant
- 44:42memory now that I see this like, dude, I see that as like a
- 44:46testament to the coaching of these players.
- 44:48It's like with what they were able to do with what they had
- 44:51left, I'm like, I understand. It's like maybe that is a
- 44:53glaring thing where it's like, hey, you guys either really need
- 44:56to focus on getting depth or you need to fire whoever is your
- 45:01strength and conditioning and your team doctor because they
- 45:05are sabotaging you. It's just it's like a very, very
- 45:08suspicious amount of injuries. I think if anything, it's like,
- 45:12OK, you could say like all injuries are injuries are just
- 45:14part of it. It's like maybe, maybe LeBron
- 45:18spends over $1,000,000 a year on his health and he's playing like
- 45:21every game. And now there's load management
- 45:23stuff. I'm like, dude's going to be
- 45:24playing 23 seasons. So it's like clearly there is
- 45:27something he's he's not a full, full contact sport.
- 45:30I mean, it is contact, but not as much as the NFL.
- 45:32But still, I feel like there is something that can be done.
- 45:35This is the highest level of football.
- 45:38It is the biggest sport in America.
- 45:40There has to be something that you can do for your team and for
- 45:43your players to keep them healthy.
- 45:45I don't know what it is. That's your good job, but having
- 45:48this many injuries and not enough depth, like that's on you
- 45:51guys. That's on you.
- 45:53You know, if you if you you know, drafted these players
- 45:56like, well, they're they're a little injury prone.
- 45:57It's like that's on you. You you know, I just see this is
- 46:01like I I'm not going to look at the 49ers and say like, man, you
- 46:05guys like really, you know, you know, shot the bed, not really a
- 46:09cuss. So I'm not sorry, but it's
- 46:11something that like you have to, you have to get on these
- 46:16injuries. You have to figure that out.
- 46:18Because if, if that keeps happening and it's not happening
- 46:20to other teams, to the to the clip that it's at, to the degree
- 46:22it's happening to you, there's something wrong and you need to
- 46:25evaluate that. Yeah, I, I don't know if you can
- 46:27see it or not, but there's a child Lynch jersey hanging right
- 46:29here beside me. Buccaneers Super Bowl jersey
- 46:31signed out of rap. Shout out.
- 46:32My parents are buying that and try not me for taking it from
- 46:35them. Is.
- 46:39What you want? He is the GM of the 49ers
- 46:42currently and has been for a while.
- 46:43I think this comes down to him. Again, we just talked about
- 46:46Brandon Bean in Buffalo. It's same thing with John Lynch.
- 46:49You have to build depth. You can't Brandon Iukes have the
- 46:52whole season and all we heard from 49ers fans about that was
- 46:55them pouting. It was, oh, Iukes not playing.
- 46:58Oh, get over it, OK, Dude doesn't want to play for you.
- 47:02He's choosing to sit out. He's choosing to not talk to
- 47:04your team. Move on next, who's next guy up
- 47:08build more debt. And I yes, that that's an
- 47:10incredibly easy thing to say, an incredibly hard thing to do.
- 47:13But as Jewel said, you have got to get people in your second and
- 47:16third string who are able to step up and do the thing they
- 47:19need to do. And that comes from building the
- 47:21right roster and from coaching. And now you don't have Bob Sala,
- 47:24Robert Sala anymore. Good luck because I think he was
- 47:27instrumental into the team making to the divisional round.
- 47:31His defense tried it their best to win you a championship with a
- 47:36bunch of nobodies. I mean, I'm almost a bag of
- 47:37rocks out there doing their longest.
- 47:40But yeah, good luck for the Niners.
- 47:42They're in a soft rebuild. It's a full rebuild.
- 47:45It's definitely a soft rebuild where they're going to have to
- 47:47bring in a bunch of depths because they've consistently it
- 47:50wasn't the running backs this year.
- 47:52It has been their running backs in the past, but they're they're
- 47:55in a a constant cycle of our team's going to get decimated.
- 47:59Just what position is it going to be in this year?
- 48:01Just happened to be your entire defense.
- 48:03It's because they're too close to that substation.
- 48:06That's what it is. Yeah, yeah.
- 48:09All right, let's move on to Texans and Patriots and we'll
- 48:13kind of do these ones a little bit quicker because we're
- 48:15getting a little bit low on time here and I want to make sure we
- 48:17get on the No. We've had some good
- 48:19conversations. So I I love it.
- 48:21I love what we talked about so far, but I'll start on this one.
- 48:25The Texans and I don't really have any thoughts on the game,
- 48:28but aside from the fact that CJ Shroud threw away the game,
- 48:33literally 4 interceptions in that game.
- 48:36Your defense gave you a lot of chances to come back in that
- 48:40game. Will Anderson, I saw him make
- 48:42play after play after play and CJ Shout just threw the chances
- 48:46away every single time. The Texans have been in the same
- 48:50spot for the last three years where they win a playoff game
- 48:52and then they make 2 divisional round and then they lose.
- 48:55So where do the Texans go from here?
- 48:57I think that they have to stop relying on their defense to save
- 49:00them. Much like the Bills, they have
- 49:02to stop relying on Josh Allen to save them every time.
- 49:04The Texans have to stop relying on their defense to save them
- 49:06every time. CJ Stroud has been extremely
- 49:09average since his rookie season. He set some nice moments like
- 49:11winning a playoff game every year, but he's also had some
- 49:14really really bad moments like throwing 4 interceptions in a
- 49:16divisional round playoff game where he looks awful.
- 49:19Last year the excuse was, well his offensive line sucks, they
- 49:21give up 54 sacks, but this year they only give up 31.
- 49:24So what's the excuse now? Their team rely too much on the
- 49:27defense and not enough on the offense, and the offense did not
- 49:30contribute near enough for this team to be true contenders.
- 49:33If they want to be true contenders, they have to build
- 49:36this offense because the NFL changes very quickly from year
- 49:40to year. I don't know how long you're
- 49:42going to have this level of a defense.
- 49:45Will you still have a good defense as long as you have Will
- 49:47Anderson and those type of guys? Sure.
- 49:50Is it going to be elite like it is right now?
- 49:52I don't know how long it's going to be at that level for.
- 49:55So you have to get your offense to not the same level, but at
- 49:59least to a capable level where this team can truly be
- 50:02contenders. And I think it's going to be
- 50:04tempting for the Texans in the draft to go, well, how did we
- 50:07win games? We won with defense.
- 50:09So why not make our defense even better, right?
- 50:11You can't do that if you're the Texans.
- 50:13You cannot do that because this offense is the reason that your
- 50:17team is being held back. Your defense is elite.
- 50:20Your offense is not even close to that.
- 50:22So you have to build the offense.
- 50:24With the exception of the game where they wore those sick red
- 50:28uniforms, which I only watched about 10 minutes of.
- 50:31That was the first game I'd seen CJ Stroud, and I was so lost.
- 50:36I didn't know. I thought this guy was supposed
- 50:39to be good. I thought they blew out the
- 50:41Steelers. I don't.
- 50:43I mean, granted, it was snowing in Foxborough, so like maybe
- 50:47that had something to do with it.
- 50:49But that was dude, he look like Jameis Winston in the national
- 50:55in the College Football Playoff against Oregon.
- 50:57That's a deep cut. But anyone knows, you've
- 51:00probably seen one of the clips where it was like, whoa, like
- 51:05this guy looks like he's on a little bit of shrooms right now.
- 51:08Like he is just like he looked lost.
- 51:11He looked lost the whole game. And I think that's like the
- 51:14biggest thing is, is it's like, you know, you can make a
- 51:18mistake, but you know, the camera is going to be
- 51:20continually cutting to you. And whether it's fair or not,
- 51:24fans draw conclusions from that. And, you know, they can kind of
- 51:27see, you know, OK, how are you handling this?
- 51:29You know, you you can read a person, especially when they're
- 51:31in a very, very high stress situation.
- 51:34And I don't think he handled it very well.
- 51:36I mean, he's got it kind of got this kind of lost, lost puppy
- 51:38dog look. And granted, I haven't seen much
- 51:40of him from before, but that was a lot to take in, especially in
- 51:45a playoff game where it's like, Hey, I can understand if you
- 51:48tried your hardest, but the Patriots just barely, you know,
- 51:51edged you out. And I I going back to the
- 51:54College Football Playoff. I thought Miami did great.
- 51:56I'm like, hey, dude, they crushed everyone this season and
- 52:00you guys took them down to the line.
- 52:02If it wasn't for that pick, like you guys could have won that
- 52:05game. And I see that as like, you
- 52:07know, Carson Beck. Oh, typical Carson Beck, like
- 52:09bitch, sorry, dad. Carson Beck took them to the
- 52:12national championship Like I they lost some games early on or
- 52:17no it was that was Notre Dame, I can't remember.
- 52:19Anyway, they lost two games. They make it all the way there.
- 52:23They beat Ohio State to get there.
- 52:25So I see this is like Caleb, he did get there, but losing in
- 52:30such an embarrassing fashion is just bad.
- 52:33And that is the last taste that is going to be left in
- 52:36everyone's mouth for the next 8 months.
- 52:39And so now it's you have a lot of fans losing confidence and
- 52:43they're kind of in that similar position as the Bills where it's
- 52:45like, OK, we're slightly better than mediocre.
- 52:49We're making it to the playoffs. But like for what?
- 52:51To just lose a few spots in the draft?
- 52:54Like there's nothing to hang our hat on on this.
- 52:56So I don't really know. But these scrubs got to figure
- 53:01some stuff out. Yeah, well, why don't you give
- 53:04us some thoughts on this game and the Texans real quick and
- 53:06then just transition right into the Chicago Bears.
- 53:09Happily, I think the Texans. So I don't really have many
- 53:14thoughts in the game like you guys.
- 53:15I mean, I don't need to beat the dead horse here.
- 53:17Do better. I think it starts by getting rid
- 53:20of your OC. You have a head coach who's a
- 53:22very Nick Kaley is his name. You have a head coach who's a
- 53:26long term defensive player in the league.
- 53:28You had a good at DC. You've got a great defense.
- 53:31You need you need an aggressive offensive coordinator who's
- 53:36going to stand up to your defensive head coach and your
- 53:39and your defensive coordinator and be like, listen, there's a
- 53:42whole other side of this game that we have to pay attention to
- 53:44as well. Because D'amico Ryan's not that
- 53:46he can't, but as as head coach, he's for sure focusing more on
- 53:51defense. So you need to bring in, I don't
- 53:54even know who, Yeah, I mean, take a college head coach that
- 53:58you like that's going on offense and bring them in for for OC Get
- 54:04somebody strong in there who's going to make his opinion heard
- 54:07and his way with it heard you have.
- 54:12You talking about a coach? Yeah, I'm talking about their
- 54:14offensive coordinator. You really?
- 54:16Bring someone in that's good, someone that can win.
- 54:20I just say Signetti, don't say someone.
- 54:22There's only one he's talking about an OC he's talking.
- 54:25About leaving the. Because it's beneath him.
- 54:27Got it. Yes, exactly.
- 54:29I do truly mean that the NFL is in.
- 54:32OC is beneath Signetti at at this point.
- 54:35Yeah. It is.
- 54:36Being head coaches beneath him, I feel like at this point I'm
- 54:38like, dude is. I mean like a Lincoln Riley or
- 54:41like someone, someone like that, someone like who's good?
- 54:46Mario Cristobal. No, I wouldn't bring him.
- 54:48That's around. That's around.
- 54:49Where you should be. I I wouldn't buy him as an OC.
- 54:51Linebacker coach. Offensive line.
- 54:54General Assistant. Not the point.
- 54:56Get somebody in there who's who's willing to play to CJ
- 55:00Stroud style because you you've got the Rams old OC or or
- 55:03somebody from the Rams offensive staff in there now and he's
- 55:06playing it seems as if he's expecting Matthew Stafford and
- 55:10he doesn't have that. He has he's got CJ Stroud.
- 55:13So so get somebody else in that. It's going to do better for your
- 55:17team with that Rams Bears who boy howdy, let me start with I
- 55:24hate A330 kickoff. I was stressed the entire day
- 55:30until kickoff and three, 3330 my time.
- 55:33I couldn't imagine if I was on the East Coast.
- 55:35It doesn't kick off to 6:30 PM. That's miserable.
- 55:39I was. I was useless at my house, man.
- 55:41What do the bears do now? I don't get the bears do a call
- 55:44during thing. You don't change a thing.
- 55:48Hats off to the Chicago Bears. Possibly the Indiana Bears here
- 55:52soon. We don't know if he has the hats
- 55:54off to them for getting there in year 1 of Ben Johnson.
- 55:57They are. I've heard it 100 times.
- 55:59They are ahead of schedule and another year under the same the
- 56:04same thing. Same coaching staff, same play
- 56:07styles in coaching style. They are going to be incredibly
- 56:10dangerous next year as well. Get Kayla Williams to stop
- 56:13making dumb decisions. But I mean, I can be said about
- 56:15so many people get him to stop making nine times out of 10,
- 56:21fourth and 4th from the 14 yard line.
- 56:23You throw a ball 52 yards in the air that should be intercepted 9
- 56:27times out of nuts. This 10th time there was an
- 56:29offensive pass reference. Didn't call, not going on it.
- 56:32Great catch by Cole. Come at first catch of the game.
- 56:35First catch of the game. Just all right, I guess I'll
- 56:37just take this one. Just outstanding play to tie the
- 56:40ball game up. Caleb Williams can do it.
- 56:43You just got to kind of wrangle him in some more.
- 56:45And I think that Bears team, I, I know I've talked a lot of crap
- 56:49about this Bears team. I've talked.
- 56:51This means a lot. This is big for anyone watching
- 56:53who hasn't. Seen a lot more.
- 56:55Keep an eye on what we're saying right there, because this is
- 56:57insane. This isn't if you showed him
- 57:00this. Clip.
- 57:02Six months ago he'd say that's AI, that's not real, that's
- 57:05that's fake. Fake news.
- 57:08No, man, I truly mean, I truly mean, I mean Ben Johnson.
- 57:11I was so skeptical. I was probably the number one
- 57:14skeptic the entire season. Now come on, coach, can't be
- 57:17that big a deal. It is.
- 57:19It's that big a deal. I don't think they change a Dang
- 57:21thing. You don't do anything.
- 57:23Just just keep your another year, get another year with your
- 57:27personnel under your belt, continue to draft well, maybe
- 57:30get another a couple offensive line pieces, 'cause you trade
- 57:33for a bunch. So who knows if they're going to
- 57:35stay together or not. You resigned a bunch or you
- 57:38signed a bunch in the offseason. Maybe build up your offensive
- 57:40line a bit more. That way Kelly Williams doesn't
- 57:42have to scramble. He could if he wants to, but
- 57:44doesn't have to. But this Bears team is in a good
- 57:47position moving forward. I agree that they're in a really
- 57:48good position. I disagree that they shouldn't
- 57:51change anything though, and the reason why is because much like
- 57:54the Bills and the Texans and the 49ers, they rely too much on one
- 57:59side of the ball or on one player.
- 58:01The Bears rely too much on fourth quarter comebacks.
- 58:05The Bears have to stop putting themselves in position to have
- 58:08to come back every single time. They had seven wins when
- 58:12trailing with two minutes or less this season.
- 58:14That is incredibly hard to do, and while it is very impressive
- 58:17that they were able to do that, I don't think they're going to
- 58:19be able to do that as many times next year.
- 58:22I said that about the Chiefs before this season that if they
- 58:25wanted to make the playoffs again, they would have to play
- 58:27better overall football if they wanted to win this season
- 58:30because of the season before they got away with a lot of wins
- 58:33that they probably shouldn't have.
- 58:35There was a lot of skill involved.
- 58:36There was also a lot of luck involved.
- 58:38But this year they didn't get as lucky and so they missed the
- 58:41playoffs. I'm not saying that the Bears
- 58:43were all luck. There was a lot of skill
- 58:45involved in that as well. So what I'm saying is it is
- 58:47incredibly hard to come back that many times when trailing
- 58:51with under 2 minutes in one season.
- 58:54And if the Bears think that they're going to do that same
- 58:56thing again next year, I don't see it happening.
- 58:59Will they make some comebacks? Yes.
- 59:01Will they make 7 in one season? Probably not.
- 59:05They're just going to have to play better.
- 59:07And I think that they will because they'll have another
- 59:10year in Ben Johnson's system with mostly the same players and
- 59:15they'll get more used to it. They'll get their chemistry
- 59:16better. Like their chemistry.
- 59:18You could see throughout the year that their chemistry got
- 59:20better throughout the year, like specifically with Caleb Williams
- 59:23and Colson Loveland. With Caleb Williams and Colson
- 59:26Loveland, their chemistry skyrocketed at the end of the
- 59:30year. So like if a full another
- 59:32offseason in Ben Johnson's system with these guys all
- 59:34together, I do see them getting better and playing better next
- 59:38season. But you cannot rely on winning
- 59:41seven games when you're trailing in the last two minutes.
- 59:44You can't rely on that. And that's what the Bears did
- 59:47this season. And ultimately it ended up
- 59:49costing them in the playoffs because they relied too much on
- 59:52their ability to come back late in games.
- 59:55I will say I agree with what you guys are saying.
- 59:58I as someone who is a fan of North Carolina basketball and I
- 1:00:03am taking it there right now, that team has no ability to stop
- 1:00:08the bleeding and so. To see a team that has the grit
- 1:00:14to be able to claw their way back is really nice to see.
- 1:00:18And that that could all just depend on your perspective on
- 1:00:22what you know. If someone has a fault, it's
- 1:00:25like, well, they've got this fault.
- 1:00:26And it's like, well, what about all these other things they do?
- 1:00:28Well? It's like, well, I'm focused on
- 1:00:30the fault and I see that. And, and like Will said, they
- 1:00:33are ahead of schedule. They are ahead of schedule.
- 1:00:35Ben Johnson is scary. Caleb, Caleb Williams clearly
- 1:00:39can do it. And these are all things that
- 1:00:41can be corrected. In fact, if anything, it gets to
- 1:00:45the point where it's like, dude, if the Bears are up on you in
- 1:00:48the fourth quarter, it's over over.
- 1:00:51And I think that's a great position to be to not feel like,
- 1:00:54oh, we're we started playing not to lose.
- 1:00:57Now we're going to lose to know that your team has that in it
- 1:01:01like that pass was stupid. It's that was insane.
- 1:01:06That was if that happened in Madden, like they would turn the
- 1:01:10game off, they'd be like, no, no, why is my DB 5 1/2 yards
- 1:01:16away from the from the receiver like they're only going for the
- 1:01:20end. I anyway, I just, I see it as
- 1:01:22this team is doing really, really well.
- 1:01:25I saw a video of Caleb Williams at a hockey game, a Blackhawks
- 1:01:28game, I think, or what is it Blackhawks?
- 1:01:30Is that their hockey? Team.
- 1:01:32And he was, everyone is cheering for him.
- 1:01:34And I was like, I thought he just lost.
- 1:01:36And I'm like, well, made that really good catch.
- 1:01:39They lost the game. Bears have been trashed for a
- 1:01:42while. They're not really trash.
- 1:01:44Now, they did lose that game, but to a team that could
- 1:01:47potentially win the Super Bowl. So it's like, hey, hey, from
- 1:01:50where we were feeling pretty good.
- 1:01:52Feeling pretty good right now. So as far as I'm concerned like
- 1:01:56that, I mean, hey, gave Rams fans some heart attacks.
- 1:02:00I feel like, yeah, I feel, I mean, Will couldn't get anything
- 1:02:03done that day. As far as I'm concerned, you
- 1:02:05guys are doing, you guys are doing OK all.
- 1:02:07Right. Well, let's move on to the
- 1:02:09conference championship games. We got to go over these with the
- 1:02:12time we got left because we're kind of running out here.
- 1:02:14So Rams at Seahawks. So in their first meeting the
- 1:02:19Rams won the game by two points and in their second meeting the
- 1:02:22Seahawks won the game by one point in overtime.
- 1:02:25I expect this to be another very close game.
- 1:02:28I expect the Seattle defense will keep them in the game like
- 1:02:31they've done both times because Sam Darnold has thrown a total
- 1:02:35of 6 interceptions in those two games.
- 1:02:37In the first game, Sam Darnold threw 4 interceptions and the
- 1:02:40Seahawks only lost by two, and in the second game he threw 2
- 1:02:44interceptions and the Seahawks won by one.
- 1:02:47While Matthew Stafford has thrown 5 interceptions in those
- 1:02:50two games, or five touchdowns. Sorry, Matthew Stafford has
- 1:02:53thrown 5 touchdowns in those two games, 0 interceptions and
- 1:02:56somehow they've only won by two and they lost by 1.
- 1:03:00So I expect this to be a very close game, just like the first
- 1:03:04two were. I also said that about Seahawks
- 1:03:0649ers. That did not happen, but this
- 1:03:09time I mean it. I think this is going to be
- 1:03:10another very close game. All right.
- 1:03:12He goes next layer deeper than that.
- 1:03:13So yes. And you're like you mentioned,
- 1:03:15in those two games, the Rams have scored 58 points and the
- 1:03:18Seahawks have scored, yeah, 59 points.
- 1:03:21Isn't it 56? Yep, 56.
- 1:03:24No, it's one that doesn't matter.
- 1:03:27Let's talk about the yards. No.
- 1:03:28No 5757 because they won by one point in one game and they lost
- 1:03:33by two in another game. So there's a one point
- 1:03:35differential 57. They're just numbers, guys.
- 1:03:37They're not real. You're right.
- 1:03:39And and the yards, the yards totals for each team in those
- 1:03:44two games, the Rams have have gained 830 yards and the
- 1:03:48Seahawks in those two games have gained 829 yards.
- 1:03:52These two teams are incredibly evenly matched.
- 1:03:56As Jill mentioned, Donald has done 14 picks on the year. 6 of
- 1:04:00them have been to the ramps in in five quarters of football.
- 1:04:03And so that's, that's huge. OK.
- 1:04:06I, I think we are about to see the most classic football game
- 1:04:10that we've seen in a long time real quick.
- 1:04:12I know we have like 0 time real quick.
- 1:04:15Do you know the total combined rushing totals for these two
- 1:04:19quarterbacks, Donald and Stafford?
- 1:04:21I know I haven't memorized. What is?
- 1:04:23Give me a guess. Just give.
- 1:04:25Me a guess but but you just go ahead.
- 1:04:26Give me a guess. 10 yards. Oh, it's more than that.
- 1:04:30It's more than that 20, No, so, so St.
- 1:04:33Donald, Sam Donald has 95 rushing yards in the season.
- 1:04:37Combined, they have 96. We are going to see, we are
- 1:04:41going to see drop back to pass, throw the football, hand the
- 1:04:45ball off, run the foot like that.
- 1:04:48This is going to be the most classic 2 tight end set game you
- 1:04:51could ever imagine. You'll see more tight ends in
- 1:04:53this game. I'll leave the inappropriate
- 1:04:56joke out of it. We're moving on.
- 1:04:57I think the biggest key to this game is the fact that is that in
- 1:05:01those two games, RAM Seahawks that we've already had, Zach
- 1:05:04Charbonnet had 20 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown where
- 1:05:08Kenneth Walker had 27 carries for 167 yards and two
- 1:05:12touchdowns. Finding someone to replace Zach
- 1:05:14Charbonnet to give Kenneth Walker a break to break these
- 1:05:18big wins is going to be the biggest the biggest drawback for
- 1:05:22the Seahawks. They're going to have to find
- 1:05:24someone to do it. Their current backup is of the
- 1:05:28the Leas Jones Junior. He has not had more than 9
- 1:05:31carries an entire season. They've got somebody coming back
- 1:05:34from IR who might be able to play.
- 1:05:36I think this is going to come down to the run game and then
- 1:05:39the Rams defensive line getting to Sam Donald better than they
- 1:05:43got to Kayla Williams because neither quarterback is mobile.
- 1:05:46And then and it also comes down to the Rams offensive line
- 1:05:49protecting way better than they protected against the Bears.
- 1:05:52Matthew Stafford was under fire the entire game against the
- 1:05:56Bears. He was not able to sit back
- 1:05:57there and do anything. It was miserable to watch.
- 1:06:01This is grandpa, not quite Philip Rivers grandpa, but
- 1:06:04grandpa throw the ball, trying to throw the ball over and over
- 1:06:08again. Although I do have to say I like
- 1:06:09the Rams in this game. It'll be a close one.
- 1:06:12I think we've got AII think legitimately comes down to the
- 1:06:15same reason Ben Johnson didn't go for two at the end of the
- 1:06:18game there because the Rams goal line and short yardage defense
- 1:06:22had been very stout the entire game.
- 1:06:24I think Max McDonald does go for two and the game ends. 2120 Rams
- 1:06:28win. My head tells me Seahawks, but
- 1:06:30my heart for you, Will tells me Rams.
- 1:06:33I appreciate that. All right, Avery, give us some
- 1:06:37thoughts on this game and then why don't you just transition
- 1:06:40right into Patriots at Broncos? Yeah, no, I, I agree with Will
- 1:06:44completely. I this this game is going to be
- 1:06:46fun to watch. I don't see a world where this
- 1:06:49is a boring game. It's really not a whole lot to
- 1:06:52say on this. I just think it will be very,
- 1:06:53very, very exciting. The other game, though, I don't
- 1:06:56know. I didn't realize I was like
- 1:06:59setting myself up there. Yeah.
- 1:07:01I. I'm.
- 1:07:03Hey, I'll tell you what at least, At least this backup has
- 1:07:06a full week to prepare rather than, you know, Bo got hurt in
- 1:07:11the first quarter. He's just got to go in.
- 1:07:13Hasn't, you know, at all been prepared.
- 1:07:16So I, I would be curious to see just because of how stout this
- 1:07:19Broncos defense is. Granted, Bo Nix isn't really
- 1:07:23much of A downfield passer. He's even at Oregon.
- 1:07:27He's he's hitting these slams, he's hitting these short, short
- 1:07:30passes. I feel like that shouldn't be as
- 1:07:33difficult to replace. Not saying you can just replace
- 1:07:37Bo Nix. I'm just saying, hey, he's not
- 1:07:39throwing bombs, you know, down the field to Randy Moss, you
- 1:07:42know, also the Patriots. I mean, I still think the
- 1:07:44Patriots are going to win it all somehow.
- 1:07:48I'm not sure how they're going to be.
- 1:07:50I feel like the NFC has got this one in the bag, but something
- 1:07:52tells me the Patriots are going to fall it out anyway.
- 1:07:55Just keeping it short and sweet there.
- 1:07:56Yeah, just going based off of that with the backup, I've seen
- 1:07:59a lot of people comparing the Broncos quarterback situation to
- 1:08:02the 2017 Eagles with Nick Foles. Not the same thing.
- 1:08:06Not the same thing. There is a huge difference
- 1:08:08between those two situations. Jared Stidham has four career
- 1:08:12starts and he's one and three in those starts.
- 1:08:15Before the 2017 season, Nick Foles had 36 starts, 37 if you
- 1:08:19count the playoffs, and in those 36 starts he was 20 and 16.
- 1:08:23There is a huge difference in the experience between those two
- 1:08:26guys. It is not even close to the same
- 1:08:29thing. Jared Stidham has never thrown a
- 1:08:30postseason pass. He's also not thrown a regular
- 1:08:34season pass in two years, not even close to the same thing.
- 1:08:37The only real hope I have for Jared Sidham is, like Avery
- 1:08:40mentioned, he's going against that Broncos defense every day
- 1:08:43in practice. That's really the only hope that
- 1:08:45I have for Jared Sidham in this game is because he's going
- 1:08:47against that Broncos defense in practice.
- 1:08:49So it is going to prepare him very well to go against the
- 1:08:53Patriots defense. That's really the only hope that
- 1:08:55I have for him, though. The experience thing and
- 1:08:58comparing them to the 2017 Nick Foles with the Eagles, it's not
- 1:09:02even close to the same thing. But just because it's a backup
- 1:09:05quarterback, people are like, oh, it's the same.
- 1:09:07They're going to win the Super Bowl with their backup
- 1:09:08quarterback. It it's not the same thing.
- 1:09:11Real quick, just want to interject.
- 1:09:12This is a little off topic, but going back to quarterbacks and
- 1:09:15winning, I think even though Sam Darnold has been, you know,
- 1:09:18isn't, you know, statistically the greatest quarterback going
- 1:09:21from the Vikings and turning them into a really good looking
- 1:09:25team and then going to the Seahawks and turning that around
- 1:09:28too, for going off of winning. I think, I think I think Darnold
- 1:09:32needs a little bit more recognition, But that's a that's
- 1:09:34a discussion for a different time.
- 1:09:35I just want to put that out there, put some respect on his
- 1:09:38name. All right, will give us your
- 1:09:39final thoughts. So in the post season this year
- 1:09:43Drake May is 33 of 56. That is a 58 percent, 58.9% with
- 1:09:50your percentage. His biggest tout for MVP is the
- 1:09:54fact that he had a 72% completion percentage in the
- 1:09:57regular season. This postseason, he is putting
- 1:10:00the ball in the ground a lot more and turning the ball over a
- 1:10:03lot more on a percentage base, right.
- 1:10:06We have a smaller sense size obviously in postseason.
- 1:10:08This Broncos defense is incredibly stout.
- 1:10:11They are very good. We have not seen very good from
- 1:10:16the Patriots offense. In your game against the
- 1:10:18Chargers, it was 4 field goals, 3 field goals, and one very late
- 1:10:23touchdown. In the game against the Texans,
- 1:10:26everyone's talking about how bad CJ Stroud did.
- 1:10:29Drake made it not do very well either.
- 1:10:30He turned the ball over way more than he should.
- 1:10:33He only had one turnover, but I do believe there were multiple
- 1:10:35fumbles that he had against against the Texans and they won.
- 1:10:40There were they only scored 28 points, which is not a lot, but
- 1:10:44when the Broncos can have a 33 point fourth quarter, yes,
- 1:10:48different quarterback, sure, But Jared said that this is his
- 1:10:51third year in the Broncos organization.
- 1:10:54This is not like the Colts this year who are running out to go
- 1:10:57call Phillip Rivers of a hey, we need somebody to come run this
- 1:11:00offense. You did it five years ago, can
- 1:11:02you do it again? I think it is a vastly different
- 1:11:05thing. I also think this is very not
- 1:11:08Mike Rabel esque of them, but I think that the the Patriots
- 1:11:12team, just like the rest of the world, is underestimating the
- 1:11:14Broncos. As Avery said, Bonex is not a
- 1:11:17down the field thrower. His longest pass for the season
- 1:11:19is only 52 yards and I don't know how much of that is after
- 1:11:23the catch. It's the yards after.
- 1:11:25Yeah, yeah. So we're not talking about a
- 1:11:27team who's trying to do the Drew Brees throw the ball as far as
- 1:11:30we can until his arm falls off. We don't have Jacoby Brassett
- 1:11:34who's throwing the ball halfway across the field just because we
- 1:11:36can't. So we we are a short passing
- 1:11:39team. JK Dobbins is back this week.
- 1:11:42So you've got JK Dobbins and RJ Harvey back there.
- 1:11:46I like the Broncos to win this game.
- 1:11:48I like the Broncos to win this game at home.
- 1:11:50I think they steal. I think they literally steal the
- 1:11:53win. This is a pick six in the fourth
- 1:11:56quarter to win the game. Broncos do it in Bronco fashion
- 1:11:59where pick six, they run the ball down and they end up being
- 1:12:04the Patriots. 2421 or something like that.
- 1:12:07Probably more like 1714 if we're being honest.
- 1:12:10Drake May has played sloppy in the postseason so far, and the
- 1:12:14Broncos feast on sloppy. Play.
- 1:12:16I like it. I don't like a.
- 1:12:17Score an offensive touchdown. I'll just.
- 1:12:20Oh, there we go. There we.
- 1:12:22Go Sorry, I don't think the Broncos go down on the
- 1:12:25touchdown. Broncos go on offensive
- 1:12:27touchdown I. Was going to say, if that was
- 1:12:29about Patriots, I'm going to put that on the Internet.
- 1:12:30You're going to get absolutely roasted.
- 1:12:32That's fine, I'm really the. Broncos don't score an offensive
- 1:12:36touchdown and beat the Patriots. I like that a lot.
- 1:12:40Yep, Ramandra Strevensson has put the ball on the turf too
- 1:12:43many times. Drake may put the ball on the
- 1:12:45turf too many times watching this Broncos defense to step up
- 1:12:48and win this game. OK.
- 1:12:51Yeah. All right.
- 1:12:51Well, that's what we got time for on tonight's episode.
- 1:12:54We'll be back next week with kind of a similar outline.
- 1:12:57We're probably going to recap the games from the conference
- 1:13:00championship. We'll talk about the Super Bowl
- 1:13:02match up, and we'll probably do something else in there too.
- 1:13:05I don't know what yet. But as always, don't forget to
- 1:13:08keep your balls played with. We'll see you next time.
- 1:13:10Bye now y'all. Also, Mark Davis's haircut still
- 1:13:12sucks.
