Latest / KSEV Mornings with Craig and Wayne / 8-19-26 Craig Collins Show
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Craig Collins show on KSEV, the Voice
- 0:03Speaker 1: of Texas. I had intended to play my open, but
- 0:06Speaker 1: my open might not be usable in the next couple
- 0:08Speaker 1: of day, well after the next couple days, but.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Thrilled to have you with us.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I'm going to immediately rip a band aid off what
- 0:16Speaker 1: Chris Salsato said he was doing a few days ago
- 0:18Speaker 1: on his show and announce a thing that I'm pretty
- 0:22Speaker 1: excited about.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I am going to be a part of the brand new.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Morning show here at KSV. The brand new morning show
- 0:28Speaker 1: will be called KSV Mornings. A press release right now
- 0:32Speaker 1: some posts and stuff I went up on social media.
- 0:35Speaker 1: It is called KSV Mornings with Craig Collins and Wayne
- 0:38Speaker 1: del Tapino, as I said, and it starts on Monday.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I will also be appearing on Chris Salsado's show this
- 0:43Speaker 1: Friday to promote it. Chris was nice enough to invite
- 0:46Speaker 1: me after I talked to him yesterday. Thrilled that this
- 0:50Speaker 1: is out there in the world, Thrilled that this is
- 0:53Speaker 1: the kind of thing that I can start talking about
- 0:55Speaker 1: now because it is crazy, and so I just want
- 0:59Speaker 1: to quickly take a few minutes and I know This
- 1:01Speaker 1: is self serving, and I apologize for it, and I
- 1:04Speaker 1: promise we'll move on and do actual news stuff in
- 1:06Speaker 1: just a bit. But to thank everybody here for trusting
- 1:09Speaker 1: me and trusting Wayne and trusting us to be a
- 1:12Speaker 1: part of a new show, and to try to take
- 1:15Speaker 1: any version of stepping into the shoes of Chris Salcedo
- 1:18Speaker 1: in his fourteen year career here.
- 1:20Speaker 2: That was incredible. It's gonna be awesome.
- 1:23Speaker 1: And out of all the people that have sort of
- 1:26Speaker 1: become a part of this being a thing that is up,
- 1:28Speaker 1: I see a calls coming in, so I'm gonna put
- 1:30Speaker 1: that call on hold real quick and I'll get to
- 1:31Speaker 1: that call in a second.
- 1:32Speaker 2: But out of all the people that made this.
- 1:34Speaker 1: A thing, one of the people I can't stop thinking
- 1:37Speaker 1: about is Gary Elliott.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Gary Elliott was a.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Longtime production manager at this company, created a bunch of
- 1:44Speaker 1: really really awesome things that you know, we used every
- 1:48Speaker 1: single day, commercials, spots of promotions, whatever. He's a guy
- 1:52Speaker 1: that created a bunch of our audio for years and
- 1:54Speaker 1: years and years, and he's the reason I didn't leave
- 1:57Speaker 1: like six months ago and I stayed. And Gary had
- 2:01Speaker 1: told me at the time that he thought that there
- 2:03Speaker 1: were other things, like bigger things in the future for me,
- 2:06Speaker 1: And this seems to be true now as I get
- 2:09Speaker 1: a chance to take over mornings at KSV, which is amazing.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Let's go to the call. Let's take the caller real quick,
- 2:16Speaker 2: and then we'll keep talking about this caller. What's your name? Hello?
- 2:21Speaker 2: Is Collie there? Are you? Okay?
- 2:23Speaker 1: You just want to hang up? So he called in
- 2:24Speaker 1: just to be off the air. That's fine that if
- 2:27Speaker 1: you want to call back in, if you're someone that
- 2:28Speaker 1: wants to be on the radio. I can only take
- 2:30Speaker 1: the calls on the air. And I have noticed that
- 2:33Speaker 1: our livestream says Chris X and Craig Collins in separate corners,
- 2:36Speaker 1: because I think there's two different things being used right now.
- 2:41Speaker 1: As far as the lower third graphic is what it's called.
- 2:44Speaker 1: We just need the Chris one to disappear. We just
- 2:46Speaker 1: need somebody to click a button. If Lucas can do that,
- 2:48Speaker 1: because he's still here, and if not, I'll do it
- 2:50Speaker 1: during the break, so that the lower third for Chris,
- 2:53Speaker 1: because it's a little confusing to look like we're both
- 2:55Speaker 1: here at the same time. There's a lot of stuff
- 2:58Speaker 1: to actually talk about. By the way, too, Thank you, Lucas.
- 3:01Speaker 1: There's a lot of things that are not at all
- 3:03Speaker 1: radio stuff, but one more time, I just want to
- 3:05Speaker 1: say thank you to Senator Bettencourt, to Ben Strusan, to
- 3:10Speaker 1: Bonnie Russell, everybody involved at this radio station for allowing
- 3:14Speaker 1: me in four or five days to be a part
- 3:18Speaker 1: of a morning show here in the heart of Texas,
- 3:22Speaker 1: the voice of Texas, you know, Houston, one of the
- 3:25Speaker 1: top major radio markets in the country. And if anybody's
- 3:29Speaker 1: asked themselves real quick, I guess I'll say this too.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Like what you're going to hear, We're going to focus
- 3:33Speaker 1: a lot on Texas, and Wayne delcha Fino is going
- 3:35Speaker 1: to be an incredible part of that with reporting contributions.
- 3:39Speaker 1: He'll be a regular contributor as far as an official
- 3:42Speaker 1: role goes for him on the show, and we'll you know,
- 3:45Speaker 1: certainly market the show with that because Wayne is a
- 3:48Speaker 1: legend as far as an investigative reporter goes here in
- 3:50Speaker 1: this industry. So hopefully we get a lot of really
- 3:53Speaker 1: cool stories from him whenever he's got the time to
- 3:57Speaker 1: join us, because it won't be every day.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Call her what's your name, Good afternoon, professor, and congratulations.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Man.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I know that this is very self serving to start
- 4:09Speaker 1: my show talking about this, but I can't help it.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I'm excited about it. But thank you very much for
- 4:15Speaker 2: calling in. Man. Is that all you want to say?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Or you want to talk about some stuff?
- 4:20Speaker 3: No, I always want to talk about some stuff here.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I mean, just it's a big move, you know, to
- 4:27Speaker 3: be in the mornings. Yes, that is an honored time spot. Yes, gosh, man,
- 4:33Speaker 3: I've been calling in since the d Handy days and
- 4:37Speaker 3: uh so that kind of ages me.
- 4:40Speaker 1: But well, I gotta I gotta go down there, actually
- 4:44Speaker 1: before before Monday. Man, I gotta go to Taste of
- 4:46Speaker 1: Texas because I haven't been there yet. I just I
- 4:48Speaker 1: have to go in and try to meet Ed.
- 4:51Speaker 3: You're kidding me. You've never eaten that Taste of Text.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I know it's down the street and I haven't done it. Man,
- 4:56Speaker 1: I know, I'm I don't think I'm allowed to host Monday.
- 4:59Speaker 1: If I don't do it, I think they'll kick me
- 5:01Speaker 1: out of the studio. So I'll get that done very soon.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I think you've got to take wife Betty for a
- 5:08Speaker 3: date night and like Friday night dinner after the Amigos,
- 5:12Speaker 3: let's go to state Texas.
- 5:14Speaker 1: We keep going to True Lux, which is delicious as well,
- 5:18Speaker 1: but I really got to hit Taste of Texas.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Continue.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Yeah, but true LUs is like six times the cost.
- 5:26Speaker 2: That's good to know.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Okay, cool, and so you you know you could get
- 5:32Speaker 3: out for a lot less at Base of Texas. But
- 5:36Speaker 3: but no, man, just uh you know, big Uh. I've
- 5:40Speaker 3: been on the road. I'm actually in Louisiana right now,
- 5:43Speaker 3: driving in west right outside of Lafayette. But uh, I
- 5:51Speaker 3: haven't heard a whole lot about what happened in Alaska.
- 5:55Speaker 3: So I didn't know if you were going to update
- 5:57Speaker 3: that that's the seat that we hold, that we positively
- 6:01Speaker 3: have to hold. And I know there were some Shenanigans
- 6:05Speaker 3: involved with the Polodi Poloda candidacy and putting another guy
- 6:11Speaker 3: named Dan Sullivan in the race, who's another communist. So
- 6:16Speaker 3: where did that race end up?
- 6:18Speaker 1: If you happen to know that, I do actually know
- 6:20Speaker 1: Mary did win her seat. I think forty eight to
- 6:25Speaker 1: forty two percent, even though some people are still calling
- 6:27Speaker 1: it too close to call at this point.
- 6:29Speaker 2: For the governor's race in Alaska, that's what you're talking about.
- 6:32Speaker 1: But I believe that Don Sullivan the Senate. Excuse me,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I don't know why I said governor Senate's race. That's
- 6:38Speaker 1: what I meant the Senate race there. I believe Dan
- 6:40Speaker 1: Sullivan has lost, but maybe it's just still too early
- 6:45Speaker 1: to call, so that that would be a big deal
- 6:48Speaker 1: if a Democrat took that spot.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Well, it is an open primary, so I'm guessing if
- 6:54Speaker 3: she does not get fifty plus one, then it would
- 6:57Speaker 3: go to a head to head.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I'm hoping, yeah, I would think, yes, okay, thank you,
- 7:01Speaker 1: thank you reminded me of that too. Yes, she's only
- 7:03Speaker 1: at forty eight right now, so I assume it will
- 7:05Speaker 1: just be ahead to head moving forward.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Good and uh you know that that that's one that
- 7:11Speaker 3: we need to h to assure we keep and uh,
- 7:14Speaker 3: still worried about what's going on in Texas. Sure, you know,
- 7:18Speaker 3: I hopefully some folks you're waking up. Sounds like there's
- 7:22Speaker 3: a fundraiser. I heard Jimmy x Is the second power
- 7:26Speaker 3: call in the end of the Christex Show and mentioned
- 7:29Speaker 3: something about a fundraiser, so hopefully you know local fundraising.
- 7:34Speaker 3: President Trump, Uh, he has got to step up his
- 7:37Speaker 3: media campaign and he has got to go after and
- 7:42Speaker 3: and and not go negative just expose who James Talafrico is.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Yes, you know, it's interesting about you saying I'm tempted
- 7:51Speaker 1: to say a thing Jimmy on the radio that I
- 7:53Speaker 1: should not say, but I'm tempted to say it because
- 7:56Speaker 1: I want it and it has nothing to do in
- 7:58Speaker 1: a negative way with the things you're talking about.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I have a family connection.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I've drive I've bragged about at times on the radio,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and my my cousin, Vinnie his first guest, his first
- 8:10Speaker 1: guest and his first radio show, and he took over
- 8:12Speaker 1: a national show for Dan Bongino was President Donald Trump.
- 8:15Speaker 1: And I texted my cousin when I found out that
- 8:19Speaker 1: I was going to be a morning show host in Houston,
- 8:21Speaker 1: and there's maybe some stuff happening that's trying to get
- 8:25Speaker 1: me a pretty decent first guest.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I don't think it'd be Monday.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I think it would actually be Tuesday, but a pretty
- 8:31Speaker 1: big first guest.
- 8:33Speaker 2: On my Tuesday show.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Dude that I didn't.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I didn't say it. I didn't say it. It's not
- 8:42Speaker 2: I'm gonna say.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna send all this to because the thing I
- 8:45Speaker 1: would like to let the President of the United States
- 8:48Speaker 1: know if by any chance this does work out, and
- 8:51Speaker 1: now I'm just being direct about it, is that Texas
- 8:53Speaker 1: is scarier than it should be. And I believe that
- 8:56Speaker 1: President Trump would know that. But I think to your
- 8:59Speaker 1: point what you're saying, and I like that there's going
- 9:02Speaker 1: to be a convention here in Dallas, and like there's
- 9:04Speaker 1: so many things happening that'll be great, but I'm I'm
- 9:07Speaker 1: fearful as someone that cannot fathom tallar Ico actually winning
- 9:13Speaker 1: that race. And I think we have to do everything
- 9:15Speaker 1: we can. And I think that's your point. And and
- 9:18Speaker 1: if the President is willing to make some time, then
- 9:22Speaker 1: hopefully that'll be a big part of the discussion is
- 9:25Speaker 1: is how the party can help Paxton win uh here
- 9:31Speaker 1: in Texas well.
- 9:33Speaker 3: If he comes on, then I think we need to
- 9:36Speaker 3: put an eadach out. No more Senator bettfort imitations, Okay,
- 9:42Speaker 3: non I like him, and then no more John Miller.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Chris Dax gotcha.
- 9:49Speaker 3: So we will have the Greg College show, the professor.
- 9:53Speaker 3: That's not what we have the real deal.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Wow, We're we're hoping, We're hoping.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I I would owe my cousin multiple steak dinners. I'd
- 10:02Speaker 1: have to take him to the taste of Texas. He'll
- 10:04Speaker 1: be in Dallas covering the convention, so he'll be around.
- 10:08Speaker 1: I'll have to take him to a lot of stuff
- 10:09Speaker 1: if this actually works out. But he's he's being very
- 10:12Speaker 1: cool about trying to help me get closer than I
- 10:15Speaker 1: thought I would get.
- 10:16Speaker 2: I'll just say that Wednesday before next week.
- 10:21Speaker 3: No, man, that would be incredible. And if you too, man,
- 10:24Speaker 3: make sure we go viral with social media, sure, so
- 10:27Speaker 3: we can maximize the listeners. Okay, we need more listeners
- 10:33Speaker 3: to KSV. A lot of people don't know about the station.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah, we need to make sure we can.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I can I say this because I don't mean for
- 10:41Speaker 1: this to be about this that's not really what you
- 10:43Speaker 1: called in about or what I intended to talk about.
- 10:45Speaker 1: But I think a lot of people in this community
- 10:47Speaker 1: know about KCV, but they may have forgotten about it,
- 10:50Speaker 1: or they may not be listening as avidly as they
- 10:52Speaker 1: listened before. And I'm sure there's there's things that are
- 10:55Speaker 1: causing that that might be our fault as far as
- 10:58Speaker 1: like the signal and what not goes.
- 10:59Speaker 2: But we're we're working on it. We're trying as hard
- 11:01Speaker 2: as we can.
- 11:02Speaker 1: So if if you know somebody that when you mentioned
- 11:05Speaker 1: the call letters, says oh, I used to love that station.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Try it out again, try it come on back, check.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Us out and all the things that we're doing in
- 11:13Speaker 1: all the ways that you can find us on social
- 11:14Speaker 1: media and the app and whatnot. Now, because I mean,
- 11:17Speaker 1: there was a time you said ed Hendy's name where
- 11:20Speaker 1: this was like the station in town from what I understand,
- 11:24Speaker 1: so you know we're working our way back to be
- 11:27Speaker 1: in that again.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Well, the app is a huge upgrade. I am listening
- 11:32Speaker 3: and calling you from the app.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Nice.
- 11:35Speaker 3: All the listeners out there just went to the app.
- 11:39Speaker 3: It's big red button, hit the call button, and here
- 11:42Speaker 3: I am sitting on it.
- 11:43Speaker 6: Ten.
- 11:44Speaker 3: That's awesome, flowing down because I see a policeman in
- 11:47Speaker 3: front of me. Yes, and but it is. It is
- 11:52Speaker 3: a streamlined, user friendly app. Yes, and so great job
- 11:57Speaker 3: to the whole KSDB team. And I knew you had
- 11:59Speaker 3: a big.
- 11:59Speaker 7: Part of that.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Yeah whatever, the whole team. The whole team does.
- 12:04Speaker 3: The Professor of Talk Radio.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Hey, okay, okay, I still don't feel like I deserve that, Moniker,
- 12:09Speaker 1: but thank you buddy for calling in.
- 12:11Speaker 3: You're daily one off dose of education from the Professor.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I definitely, Well, thank you very much, man, Thank you
- 12:19Speaker 1: Jimmy for calling in as always do.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I'll talk to about man.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I probably wasn't supposed to do the thing I
- 12:24Speaker 1: did there, well, Jimmy X was on the on the air,
- 12:28Speaker 1: but it is.
- 12:28Speaker 2: It is real.
- 12:30Speaker 1: My my family that has interviewed our president multiple times
- 12:36Speaker 1: is willing to at least try to have and the
- 12:39Speaker 1: market's big enough, the station's big enough. Salcedo had had
- 12:43Speaker 1: Trump on before, so, like everything about it is folding.
- 12:47Speaker 2: But for right now, I'm not anyone listening.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I'm not telling you that next week Tuesday, for sure,
- 12:52Speaker 1: the President of the United States will be on the station.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I'm just saying it's not a zero percent chance, it's
- 12:57Speaker 1: not a zero a percent chance that that will happen,
- 13:00Speaker 1: And at least that's the best I.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Can do for now.
- 13:03Speaker 1: There is actual stuff to talk about, not self serving
- 13:06Speaker 1: things to do, and to get to that I'd love
- 13:09Speaker 1: to probably cover at some point on the show. But
- 13:12Speaker 1: I do want to take a break too, and I
- 13:14Speaker 1: do very much hope that my break works. I am
- 13:17Speaker 1: looking at some things here in the studio and wondering
- 13:20Speaker 1: if some stuff is set up the way it's supposed
- 13:22Speaker 1: to be set up, and I'm thinking it's actually not
- 13:26Speaker 1: set up the way that it's supposed to be, which
- 13:28Speaker 1: is my fault and not yours. It's something that I
- 13:32Speaker 1: have to fix and there's no good way to do it.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So we're going to take a quick break. You might
- 13:37Speaker 1: have a slight pregnant pause, but you'll hear some commercials
- 13:40Speaker 1: in just a second. This is the Craig Collins Show, KSV,
- 13:43Speaker 1: the Voice of Texas.

- 20:13Speaker 1: This is the Craig Collins Show, KSEV the Voice of Texas.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Sorry about the very long pause there. We had everything
- 20:20Speaker 1: break and actually, you know, it's kind of funny. Today,
- 20:22Speaker 1: out of all days in the world of social media,
- 20:25Speaker 1: Rumble Studio went down, which might not mean enough or
- 20:29Speaker 1: much of anything to a lot of people, but it's
- 20:31Speaker 1: the way that most of our shows send our product
- 20:33Speaker 1: from one location to all the other digital locations. So
- 20:36Speaker 1: I believe I'm up on Facebook, which I rarely ever am,
- 20:40Speaker 1: and then I'm also up on X but nowhere else.
- 20:43Speaker 1: We're gonna upload a YouTube after the show so you
- 20:46Speaker 1: can see it if you want to watch it there,
- 20:48Speaker 1: and then probably put one on Rumble two. But some
- 20:50Speaker 1: of the stuff broke in the world of digital, so
- 20:52Speaker 1: that'll all be fixed tomorrow. But that's why we're having
- 20:54Speaker 1: some challenges today. And then the computer behind me just
- 20:57Speaker 1: turned off and that's what runs our digital stream, so
- 20:59Speaker 1: I fix that. During my show, Let's get to actual things.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Let's do actual stuff. I have President Trump talking about
- 21:08Speaker 1: humans and how grass has a life like humans have
- 21:12Speaker 1: a life. I enjoy the President talking about grass way
- 21:16Speaker 1: more than I should, because he's a grass guy. He
- 21:19Speaker 1: says that he's a guy who pays attention to a lawn,
- 21:22Speaker 1: who knows the value of, say, the appearance of something
- 21:26Speaker 1: from all of his life and career that is well
- 21:28Speaker 1: beyond this play, well beyond being just the President of
- 21:31Speaker 1: the United States. I should say everything that he's done
- 21:34Speaker 1: outside of that. So I find this amusing and enjoyable.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Some people like to crap on him for this kind
- 21:41Speaker 1: of stuff, which I don't really totally get why people
- 21:44Speaker 1: want to crap on the President for something that I
- 21:46Speaker 1: think is relatively mild, just bragging about grass.
- 21:49Speaker 2: But here we go, let's play with grass has a
- 21:51Speaker 2: life like humans have a life.
- 21:53Speaker 5: And this is all going to be right now. It's
- 21:55Speaker 5: put in.
- 21:56Speaker 6: If you come back in two weeks, three weeks, it's
- 21:59Speaker 6: in shock. But you come back in two or three weeks,
- 22:02Speaker 6: this has all been redone. It's all been top soiled.
- 22:05Speaker 6: In other words, we put topsail, brand new earth on top.
- 22:09Speaker 6: It's very you know, very lot of good ingredients in
- 22:13Speaker 6: that earth for grass.
- 22:14Speaker 5: If your grass, you're very happy.
- 22:16Speaker 6: And this grass will look so beautiful. If you remember,
- 22:20Speaker 6: it had big sunken areas in here, and it was
- 22:23Speaker 6: pretty bad. It was in bad shape. But this grass
- 22:27Speaker 6: is grass quality. It was given free of chid by
- 22:30Speaker 6: Scott's Miracle Growth Scott's and Scott's is a great a
- 22:34Speaker 6: great company. It is they actually contributed to my campaign.
- 22:37Speaker 5: I must be honest. You'll figure that one out.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Here's what I think is incredible and hilarious about this,
- 22:42Speaker 1: by the way, is like this is so innocent in
- 22:46Speaker 1: a certain sense. The president just talking about grass for
- 22:49Speaker 1: a while, Like I know a bunch of people in
- 22:51Speaker 1: the president's age bracket who care a whole lot about
- 22:55Speaker 1: their front yard, about their lawn and we talk about
- 22:57Speaker 1: grass in the same way, and so it's mystifying to me.
- 23:01Speaker 1: It's amazing to me that people crap on this, like
- 23:04Speaker 1: truly it is because no matter what you think of
- 23:07Speaker 1: President Donald Trump, when he's talking about grass and the
- 23:10Speaker 1: value of having a nice looking yard or a nice
- 23:13Speaker 1: looking place anywhere, or even when we talk about things
- 23:16Speaker 1: like the ballroom or we talk about stuff like the arch,
- 23:20Speaker 1: and the President winds up in a discussion about, you know,
- 23:23Speaker 1: being a longtime developer in New.
- 23:25Speaker 2: York and how he likes this.
- 23:26Speaker 1: He likes that, like whatever it might be that he
- 23:28Speaker 1: thinks is a huge focus point.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I know this is a silly place to start for
- 23:33Speaker 1: the actual show itself, but I couldn't help it when
- 23:36Speaker 1: I saw that, and then I saw viral attacks of
- 23:39Speaker 1: it again and just how stupid that is, because like literally,
- 23:43Speaker 1: this is very similar to me to when Joe Biden
- 23:46Speaker 1: needs to brag about liking ice cream, although actually I
- 23:50Speaker 1: would actually argue that grass is probably better because there's
- 23:53Speaker 1: a value to having something that looks good and not
- 23:55Speaker 1: just joking about being someone that wants to have a
- 23:57Speaker 1: snack on the way home when you're not aware you're president.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I mean President Biden was treated like a kid after
- 24:03Speaker 1: a baseball game. That's the way they treated the man
- 24:06Speaker 1: while he was in the White House. So if I
- 24:08Speaker 1: had to make the argument, I think I could easily
- 24:11Speaker 1: make it that one is actually better than the other.
- 24:14Speaker 1: But anyway, I just think it's amazing that these are
- 24:16Speaker 1: the kind of things he gets attacked for. Also, he
- 24:19Speaker 1: did put up on truth Social that at least one
- 24:21Speaker 1: person who won in a race, or excuse me, lost
- 24:25Speaker 1: in a race Democratic Socialists of America, Alex Vinman, that
- 24:30Speaker 1: he was a piece of crap, a sleeze bag.
- 24:32Speaker 2: I thought that was fun. I think Fox did a quick.
- 24:34Speaker 9: Thing on this, President Trump posting sleeves bag. Viniman loses
- 24:38Speaker 9: tonight to ironical left lumatic How cool?
- 24:41Speaker 5: Is that?
- 24:42Speaker 2: Pretty cool? Pretty good?
- 24:44Speaker 1: The Democratic Socialists of America are hopefully going to fail,
- 24:47Speaker 1: just across the board, like hopefully you're going to see
- 24:50Speaker 1: a lot more. And yes, yesterday was a big election day.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Jimmy X called in to talk about Alaska specifically and
- 24:57Speaker 1: asked questions about it and reminded me of something that
- 25:00Speaker 1: I had forgotten, which is, if nobody gets fifty percent,
- 25:03Speaker 1: they get into a runoff, and it looks like there
- 25:05Speaker 1: is going to be a runoff between an incumbent who's
- 25:08Speaker 1: a Republican and a crazy Democrat. And you can't have
- 25:11Speaker 1: crazy Democrats win races, but a whole bunch more crazy
- 25:14Speaker 1: Democrats are getting closer to at least being the nominees,
- 25:18Speaker 1: if not actually winning some of these races. And how
- 25:21Speaker 1: detrimentally bad to the United States that would be if
- 25:24Speaker 1: that continues, if.
- 25:25Speaker 2: That occurs at a higher level, of course than what we're.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Seeing right now. But there were a lot of good,
- 25:30Speaker 1: good wins and nice nights. By the way, there's another
- 25:33Speaker 1: big story out there, and this is somewhat self serving
- 25:37Speaker 1: in the world of media, which I can't help. It's
- 25:41Speaker 1: been one of those weeks, it seems like. But Dan
- 25:43Speaker 1: Bongino is returning to the radio. Dan Bungina will be
- 25:46Speaker 1: doing an afternoon show which will air from three to
- 25:49Speaker 1: six o'clock Eastern time, so that's two to five o'clock
- 25:53Speaker 1: our time. But Dan will be doing a three hour
- 25:55Speaker 1: show where he's going to have to clean up the
- 25:57Speaker 1: language that he uses whenever he's on the internet, because
- 26:00Speaker 1: he doesn't say things the way that radio allows them
- 26:03Speaker 1: to be said. But I thought that was pretty cool.
- 26:06Speaker 1: For a while. Bungino, who was on the station for
- 26:09Speaker 1: a long time, being someone that wasn't on radio, kind
- 26:13Speaker 1: of confused a lot of radio. There are a lot
- 26:15Speaker 1: of people in this industry that thought that that was
- 26:17Speaker 1: a bad sign for our industry. And even though Bungino
- 26:21Speaker 1: has been successful in the world of a podcast, him
- 26:24Speaker 1: wanting to and seeing a value of and working with
- 26:27Speaker 1: a big provider of radio stuff to actually put something
- 26:30Speaker 1: out there, I think that's good. I think that's a
- 26:33Speaker 1: big deal, and I think there's more of this, And
- 26:35Speaker 1: I think Salsato has even talked about it this week
- 26:38Speaker 1: with what he's doing and how he's stepping away from
- 26:40Speaker 1: radio to do something that probably.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Will eventually have radio in it again.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And I say this as I know that Chris Salsada
- 26:47Speaker 1: is currently doing his third Rail show on social media
- 26:51Speaker 1: on x with Amuse. Who's a big guy, a big
- 26:54Speaker 1: deal in social media.
- 26:56Speaker 2: All right, let's play this.
- 26:57Speaker 1: This is certainly local to Texas and something that a
- 27:01Speaker 1: lot of people are talking about. Carmelo Anthony's legal team
- 27:04Speaker 1: is in court demanding the removal of a judge from
- 27:07Speaker 1: all post trial matters as they seek a new trial
- 27:11Speaker 1: for the nineteen year old who was convicted of killing
- 27:14Speaker 1: Austin Metcalf and who several different people, young people who
- 27:19Speaker 1: were there that day retold the story that absolutely just
- 27:23Speaker 1: sounded like murder. There was no version of it that
- 27:26Speaker 1: sounded even remotely close to self defense. This was not
- 27:29Speaker 1: something that just one person said in that courtroom. So
- 27:32Speaker 1: demanding a new trial is sort of surreal and insane.
- 27:36Speaker 1: And I don't think that any inevitable trial, if someone
- 27:38Speaker 1: were to get it, would actually prove him innocent of
- 27:41Speaker 1: a crime. That's even more crazy. I think they're looking
- 27:45Speaker 1: for some sort of reduction of a sentence. He was
- 27:47Speaker 1: sentenced to thirty five years in prison, which to me
- 27:51Speaker 1: wasn't enough. I know that he's nineteen, you know, and
- 27:54Speaker 1: that he was a teenager when this actually occurred. But
- 27:58Speaker 1: to me, I thought that the sad thing was actually lenient.
- 28:01Speaker 1: And so it'll be interesting to see if anything does
- 28:03Speaker 1: happened here. But I know that Fox did a report
- 28:05Speaker 1: in this story too, And let's.
- 28:07Speaker 18: Start with this. Today, Carmelo Anthony's push for a new
- 28:09Speaker 18: murder trial begins. His attorneys are arguing to remove the
- 28:13Speaker 18: original judge from his case. Claiming he cannot be impartial
- 28:16Speaker 18: after giving an interview defending the verdict reach with no
- 28:19Speaker 18: black jurors. Anthony's team also argues public access restrictions violated
- 28:24Speaker 18: his civil rights. He has spent the past two months
- 28:27Speaker 18: serving his thirty five year prison sentence after being found
- 28:30Speaker 18: guilty of stabbing and killing Austin Metcalf during a Texas
- 28:34Speaker 18: track meet last year.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Right, so, here's the thing, and this is the thing
- 28:38Speaker 1: that I believe to be most important about a discussion
- 28:40Speaker 1: about this topic. And you heard it within you know,
- 28:43Speaker 1: And actually I'm going to play the press, the Fox
- 28:45Speaker 1: News report one more time. I'm assuming everybody's going to
- 28:48Speaker 1: catch it. I'm definitely catching it as to the thing
- 28:51Speaker 1: that Carmelo Anthony's attorneys are claiming is important and why
- 28:57Speaker 1: he is deserving of a new trial, why he's deserving
- 29:00Speaker 1: of having a second go at trying to prove to
- 29:03Speaker 1: a jury of his peers that he's innocent of the
- 29:06Speaker 1: murder that his own friends all seem to say that
- 29:09Speaker 1: they thought he was guilty of. But I want you
- 29:11Speaker 1: to pay close attention as I hit play again to
- 29:14Speaker 1: the middle of part of this audiocause I think it's
- 29:16Speaker 1: pretty important.
- 29:16Speaker 18: Let's start with this. Today, Carmelo Anthony's push for a
- 29:19Speaker 18: new murder trial begins. His attorneys are arguing to remove
- 29:23Speaker 18: the original judge from his case, claiming he cannot be
- 29:25Speaker 18: impartial after giving an interview defending the verdict reach with
- 29:29Speaker 18: no black jurors.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I'll stop it right there, because I think you noticed
- 29:32Speaker 1: what I noticed, and that's the way that the conversation
- 29:35Speaker 1: is going is that there were no black jurors. So
- 29:38Speaker 1: the assumption, or the assumption that people are trying to
- 29:42Speaker 1: get made here is that racism had to be a
- 29:44Speaker 1: component of it, and that the only way to circumvent
- 29:47Speaker 1: racism from a jury deciding whether or not someone is
- 29:50Speaker 1: guilty of someone something is to have someone who looks
- 29:53Speaker 1: like the person on trial be a part of that group.
- 29:57Speaker 1: This is beyond stupid as far as a of thinking
- 30:00Speaker 1: and a discussion, and certainly something that's ridiculous within the state.
- 30:04Speaker 2: But also, and here's the caveat that I do.
- 30:07Speaker 1: Want to throw out on the off chance that someone
- 30:10Speaker 1: were put on a jury and then made a decision
- 30:12Speaker 1: based on race, essentially meaning and I don't believe this
- 30:16Speaker 1: would be the case. I'm not predicting this but if
- 30:19Speaker 1: a black juror was added, and then just because of that.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Connection that a.
- 30:26Speaker 1: Black person is on trial and a black person is
- 30:28Speaker 1: in the jury box, that they decide a person is innocent,
- 30:31Speaker 1: that would be detrimental to our system.
- 30:34Speaker 2: And we all know it.
- 30:35Speaker 1: We all evidently know this, and yet these these lawyers
- 30:39Speaker 1: seem to almost be saying out loud that that's what
- 30:41Speaker 1: they're hoping for, that that's what they want. They want
- 30:43Speaker 1: a version of the OJ Simpson case where suddenly you
- 30:47Speaker 1: had a conversation and some people thought about it one
- 30:49Speaker 1: way and other people thought about it.
- 30:51Speaker 2: A different way. Now, granted that changed a lot over time.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I think that most people believed toward the end of
- 30:57Speaker 1: his life that OJ was guilty of a horrible crime.
- 31:00Speaker 2: But nonetheless, I just don't get.
- 31:02Speaker 1: This, And I really think that this is probably the
- 31:05Speaker 1: most valuable thing to dive deeper into and have a
- 31:08Speaker 1: discussion about in general, because for me, if I were
- 31:13Speaker 1: on trial and I looked up at a jury and
- 31:16Speaker 1: it's all people that don't look like me, it's all
- 31:18Speaker 1: women or you know, guys that are a different race
- 31:21Speaker 1: than me, I wouldn't think to myself, Man, I need
- 31:24Speaker 1: one white dude on this jury in order to not
- 31:28Speaker 1: be guilty of whatever the thing is that I'm being
- 31:31Speaker 1: accused of. I would be thinking to myself that I
- 31:33Speaker 1: better make my best darn case for why I'm innocent
- 31:36Speaker 1: of whatever the crime is I'm committed I'm accused of,
- 31:40Speaker 1: and then let the jury decide. I don't care what
- 31:42Speaker 1: they look like, I don't care who they are. Some
- 31:44Speaker 1: people would actually call that white privilege, which is insane
- 31:47Speaker 1: because I think there are a lot of people in
- 31:49Speaker 1: society who do make decisions based on race that shouldn't.
- 31:53Speaker 1: But but talk about a fundamental destruction of our system itself.
- 31:58Speaker 1: If Carmelo Anthony were able to get a new trial
- 32:01Speaker 1: based on the fact that there were no black jurors,
- 32:03Speaker 1: then get someone black on the on the jury, and
- 32:05Speaker 1: then somehow be told that he's innocent of a crime
- 32:08Speaker 1: that his own friends seemed to think he was guilty
- 32:10Speaker 1: of in that first trial.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Let's go to the phones. We got a caller calling in.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Call her. What's your name?
- 32:15Speaker 19: It's Bart. How are you doing good?
- 32:16Speaker 2: Bart? How are you doing good?
- 32:19Speaker 19: This subject bothers me because there were three potential jurors
- 32:23Speaker 19: that in the Vordyr process, they said they would not
- 32:28Speaker 19: find a black boy a perpetrator guilty just because he's black,
- 32:34Speaker 19: So they blackballed them. They didn't put him on the
- 32:36Speaker 19: jury simply because they said they refused to find a
- 32:39Speaker 19: black whatever you call it, well, well right.
- 32:43Speaker 1: And just to repeat repeat what Bart just said for
- 32:45Speaker 1: anyone that didn't get it, there were three jurors that
- 32:49Speaker 1: were excluded. They were removed from being capable of being
- 32:52Speaker 1: part of the jury because they said out loud at
- 32:54Speaker 1: the beginning of the case that because of race, they
- 32:56Speaker 1: were incapable of thinking that Carmelo Anthony would be guilty,
- 33:00Speaker 1: which should exclude anyone from any case anywhere in the country.
- 33:04Speaker 1: You can't say, before you see any of the proof
- 33:07Speaker 1: of something that there's no way this person can be
- 33:09Speaker 1: guilty based on what they look like.
- 33:11Speaker 2: That's horrible. Continue Bart.
- 33:13Speaker 19: Yeah, I'm like, how did we get to a point
- 33:15Speaker 19: in this country where somebody's guilt or innocent has decided
- 33:19Speaker 19: purely and they're melanin. I'm like, that's just ridiculous. And
- 33:22Speaker 19: I don't hear hardly any discussion about it.
- 33:24Speaker 1: No, I know, And that's part of the reason I
- 33:26Speaker 1: really wanted to talk about this, because even the Fox,
- 33:28Speaker 1: you sure, thank you, Bart. Even the Fox News story
- 33:31Speaker 1: that I saw when they're mentioning that there's no black jurors,
- 33:34Speaker 1: that shouldn't be like that doesn't matter.
- 33:36Speaker 2: It shouldn't matter.
- 33:38Speaker 1: And even more important, and if you paid attention to
- 33:40Speaker 1: the to the case as it sounds that Bart, you
- 33:42Speaker 1: did and I did, if you listen to what all
- 33:44Speaker 1: the people said, all the kids that were there when
- 33:48Speaker 1: one person stabbed another person and killed him. When that happened,
- 33:53Speaker 1: most of the people who were witnesses to it described
- 33:55Speaker 1: it as a sudden attack and not some sort of
- 33:58Speaker 1: self defense. So that that, to me was the definitive
- 34:01Speaker 1: hammer in the entirety of the story. That none of
- 34:03Speaker 1: the kids that were asked to testify, even by the defense,
- 34:07Speaker 1: said the thing the defense was saying, which was he
- 34:10Speaker 1: was defending himself and he killed somebody, you know, in
- 34:13Speaker 1: an act of protecting his own life. No one else
- 34:17Speaker 1: seemed to think that that occurred. And Anthony didn't even
- 34:19Speaker 1: take the stand, He didn't even testify himself. Which when
- 34:23Speaker 1: you have no one else saying something happened and you
- 34:27Speaker 1: are claiming it did as a defense, you probably need
- 34:29Speaker 1: to take the stand yourself. And at least say that
- 34:31Speaker 1: it is something to notice that that didn't happen, and
- 34:34Speaker 1: yet they're asking for a new trial and they're saying
- 34:36Speaker 1: that it's black I think it's.
- 34:39Speaker 19: Very rare for somebody that's the defendant to take the
- 34:42Speaker 19: witness stand in his own defense. Lawyers don't even want him.
- 34:46Speaker 2: To, I know.
- 34:47Speaker 19: But what's what's said is that three African American people
- 34:51Speaker 19: in a jury pool they had to blackball him because
- 34:54Speaker 19: they said before the trial even started, I will not
- 34:57Speaker 19: vote guilty no matter what the evidence.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's scary. That is scary. Thank you very
- 35:03Speaker 2: much for the call.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Bart, Thank you.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I appreciate with what you're saying, and that is scary.
- 35:07Speaker 1: But I would also say this just about the actual
- 35:09Speaker 1: case itself, in the value what happened in the courtroom
- 35:13Speaker 1: when and to Bart's point, because he said it, and
- 35:16Speaker 1: it's true, people almost never take the stand to defend
- 35:19Speaker 1: themselves in those kind of cases.
- 35:21Speaker 2: The exception is.
- 35:23Speaker 1: When you're saying something that no one else can confirm.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Kyle Rittenhouse comes to mind as someone who was willing
- 35:29Speaker 1: to defend himself and describe what happened when he shot
- 35:33Speaker 1: people that were trying to hurt him, and the fact
- 35:36Speaker 1: that Austin Metcalf was killed, and that none of the
- 35:41Speaker 1: people who saw that happen thought of it as self defense,
- 35:44Speaker 1: and that Carmelo Anthony didn't want to take the stand
- 35:46Speaker 1: to say it himself. I felt like that was the
- 35:48Speaker 1: opening and shutting of that case, and it had nothing
- 35:51Speaker 1: to do with what people look like.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Now.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Granted, I think some people would say that race was
- 35:55Speaker 1: a factor in the fight itself and in the inevitable
- 35:59Speaker 1: death of someone, because Anthony is a black young man,
- 36:03Speaker 1: a nineteen year old now an adult, and Metcalf was
- 36:06Speaker 1: a white guy, and so and like, you know what,
- 36:09Speaker 1: I'll say this, I'm gonna roll the dice and say
- 36:12Speaker 1: a thing that I don't know if I should say,
- 36:15Speaker 1: even though at all the radio stations and all the
- 36:17Speaker 1: places to say it in Texas, in Houston and on KSV,
- 36:20Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm fine. I have noticed people, and I'm
- 36:25Speaker 1: sure other people out there feel this way too, And
- 36:27Speaker 1: I'm not trying to vilify everyone because of an experience
- 36:30Speaker 1: I have. So when I say out loud that I've
- 36:32Speaker 1: noticed something that happened to me, it doesn't mean that
- 36:35Speaker 1: the next time I'm around someone who doesn't look like me,
- 36:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna expect the same treatment. But I've noticed people
- 36:41Speaker 1: who just sort of demonstrate that they hate me, like
- 36:43Speaker 1: to my face, and they don't know me. They're not
- 36:46Speaker 1: a person I've gotten to meet at all. They wouldn't
- 36:48Speaker 1: even know my name they walk up to me. Oftentimes,
- 36:52Speaker 1: these are people that are a different race than I am,
- 36:54Speaker 1: and they occasionally show how much they hate me. And
- 36:58Speaker 1: it's odd to say the very least, But you also
- 37:02Speaker 1: immediately reflect to how society has sort of coached this
- 37:06Speaker 1: out of people right now. And there's a bunch of
- 37:09Speaker 1: ways to go about this discussion, and actually, I'll do it.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Here's the way I want to do it, because this
- 37:15Speaker 1: is just sort of happening, this discussion in there. I
- 37:17Speaker 1: didn't plan for all of this, But I have told
- 37:19Speaker 1: this story before in the radio. I just don't think
- 37:22Speaker 1: i've told it here. At KSV. I was in a
- 37:25Speaker 1: college class in Chicago, Illinois, a pretty liberal place and
- 37:30Speaker 1: a pretty liberal school. I actually went to art school.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Columbia College as one of the places that I studied
- 37:36Speaker 1: in Chicago, and I was sitting in a class that
- 37:39Speaker 1: was supposed to be about like history and society I
- 37:42Speaker 1: can't even remember what the name. I think it was
- 37:44Speaker 1: like cultural studies or something. But anyway, the teacher, a
- 37:46Speaker 1: black guy, started saying some stuff about society, and I
- 37:50Speaker 1: remember raising my hand and I was twenty years old,
- 37:53Speaker 1: and I made an argument about what I guess some
- 37:56Speaker 1: people refer to as reverse racism, that if I were
- 38:00Speaker 1: to walk into a certain room and someone would expect
- 38:02Speaker 1: me to be a mean person, a bad person, a
- 38:05Speaker 1: racist person simply because I'm a white dude, that that's unfair.
- 38:09Speaker 1: And I remember the entire class.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Argued with me.
- 38:13Speaker 1: It was probably one of the first moments that I
- 38:15Speaker 1: realized I was destined to maybe do radio or something else,
- 38:18Speaker 1: because like the entire room, it was me versus everybody,
- 38:22Speaker 1: the teacher. Everybody was saying, how like white people can't
- 38:25Speaker 1: experience racism, which is a thing that you've.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Probably heard before.
- 38:30Speaker 1: There are people out there that say that if you're
- 38:33Speaker 1: a minority, you can't possibly be racist, which is insane,
- 38:36Speaker 1: like treating someone poorly based on what they look like.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I think anybody can do that.
- 38:42Speaker 1: But nonetheless, I just to this day, I will vividly
- 38:44Speaker 1: remember making an argument and in the room where it
- 38:48Speaker 1: was happening, where I was saying that I didn't think
- 38:51Speaker 1: that a white man was inherently racist, and I thought
- 38:53Speaker 1: that treating someone like they were was bad. I remember
- 38:57Speaker 1: thinking in that moment, like the thing that's proving my
- 38:59Speaker 1: point is the experience in the classroom that I was
- 39:03Speaker 1: getting yelled at by a bunch of people that didn't
- 39:05Speaker 1: look like me, and that some of the people who
- 39:08Speaker 1: did look like me were fairly quiet throughout the entire proceeding.
- 39:12Speaker 1: I just thought that that was amazing, because I think
- 39:15Speaker 1: I walked out of that classroom and I said to
- 39:18Speaker 1: myself that regardless of what that teacher or some of
- 39:21Speaker 1: those students just said, I definitively know something is true
- 39:25Speaker 1: because it just happened.
- 39:27Speaker 2: And I even remember making this argument too.
- 39:30Speaker 1: And I don't know if this is a valuable discussion
- 39:32Speaker 1: or an interesting discussion here on KSV, but I.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Can't help it.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I remember I lived in Mexico for like four months
- 39:39Speaker 1: during COVID. My wife, her family was having some problems.
- 39:42Speaker 1: I had the ability to do some things remotely, so
- 39:45Speaker 1: like I moved to Mexico short term.
- 39:48Speaker 2: This wasn't I didn't get like citizenship or anything.
- 39:51Speaker 1: And I remember I was walking around some days and
- 39:53Speaker 1: treated like absolute crap by a whole bunch of people
- 39:56Speaker 1: that would call me a white guy in Spanish and
- 39:58Speaker 1: just yell at me. And I was thinking to myself, like,
- 40:01Speaker 1: yet again, this is an experience that some people are
- 40:04Speaker 1: going to claim I can't have that. I can't have
- 40:06Speaker 1: any understanding, any semblance of a discussion of it. But
- 40:10Speaker 1: I was in a different country where maybe not everybody
- 40:13Speaker 1: liked me and like the way that I looked. I'm
- 40:15Speaker 1: not that's saying that I got treated like that all
- 40:17Speaker 1: the time. By and large, I really loved my experience
- 40:19Speaker 1: of living in Mexico, but there were.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Some days that were uniquely poor.
- 40:24Speaker 1: And any time I've ever mentioned that to anybody, especially
- 40:26Speaker 1: a minority, who tells me that, you know, a white
- 40:29Speaker 1: guy can't understand racism, they always look at me confused.
- 40:32Speaker 1: They're like, what now. I was like, Yeah, I was
- 40:34Speaker 1: in a place I was the only guy that looked
- 40:36Speaker 1: like me and everybody treated me like crap. I know
- 40:39Speaker 1: that it can happen. I also know that, by and large,
- 40:41Speaker 1: it didn't happen most of the time I was in
- 40:43Speaker 1: the same place. But we're gonna take another break, and
- 40:46Speaker 1: we took a long break the first time, but I
- 40:48Speaker 1: don't know that we played all the right spots we
- 40:50Speaker 1: were supposed to play, so we do have to catch
- 40:52Speaker 1: up on spots, and then we'll come back and we'll
- 40:54Speaker 1: close out the show with a couple other serious things
- 40:58Speaker 1: and then some silly things on the Voice of Taxes
- 41:01Speaker 1: KSV and The Craig College Show.

- 45:06Speaker 2: This is the Craig Collins Show KSCV, the Voice of Texas.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Thrilled to be with you.
- 45:10Speaker 1: So so much stuff out there to talk about, so
- 45:13Speaker 1: little time I left to do it. A company intentionally
- 45:16Speaker 1: put out a fake poll showing that Los Angeles Mayor
- 45:19Speaker 1: Karen Bass was leading a socialist, crazy, insane person.
- 45:24Speaker 2: By quote double digits. They called it a short term experiment.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Anyone anywhere that thinks that polling is crap, that thinks
- 45:32Speaker 1: that these kind of things are used to influence what
- 45:35Speaker 1: people believe is likely to happen in an election and
- 45:37Speaker 1: then thus maybe cause some people not to vote or
- 45:40Speaker 1: some people to vote. Essentially, meaning, if I report to
- 45:43Speaker 1: you that there's a bunch of terrible polling out there
- 45:46Speaker 1: that says horrible things about a candidate that I want
- 45:48Speaker 1: to win, I'm trying to encourage you to get out
- 45:51Speaker 1: and vote. Polling is stupid. They know it's stupid. They've
- 45:54Speaker 1: admitted it themselves. I've talked about it on the show.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Most pollsters willingly tell you that they are unlikely to
- 46:01Speaker 1: be right about their prediction unless they're like within days
- 46:05Speaker 1: of an election. I think they admit that it's something
- 46:07Speaker 1: like thirty percent of the time they get things right
- 46:10Speaker 1: in some poll that comes out at some point before
- 46:13Speaker 1: an actual election happens. I just don'to the call pop in,
- 46:16Speaker 1: So I'll take it real quick and see who this
- 46:18Speaker 1: caller is, and then we'll do the audio.
- 46:20Speaker 2: A caller, what's your name, Emily? Emily, where are you
- 46:24Speaker 2: calling from?
- 46:25Speaker 4: West Houston?
- 46:26Speaker 2: What would you like to say, Emily?
- 46:28Speaker 4: I just want to say about the Carmela Anthony case.
- 46:31Speaker 4: What I would have you know. I think the best
- 46:33Speaker 4: thing that could have happened is if they had treated
- 46:36Speaker 4: him as a seventeen year old, said he was not
- 46:39Speaker 4: an adult, and have the parents take responsibility to school
- 46:43Speaker 4: because they put this the students in charge of security.
- 46:47Speaker 4: Whatever they were doing, they were not trained to handle conflict,
- 46:51Speaker 4: and they put it was negligence on the on the
- 46:53Speaker 4: I would have argued negligence on the school and the
- 46:56Speaker 4: parents and work it out that way, and they could
- 46:59Speaker 4: avoid did all these things. So that's how I was
- 47:02Speaker 4: wanted to I would have recommended to handle it.
- 47:04Speaker 19: To bought past that.
- 47:05Speaker 4: But once you said about racism, about hating people just
- 47:09Speaker 4: because of their class, I think the number one thing
- 47:13Speaker 4: that makes us do that is conditioning people to do that,
- 47:16Speaker 4: is the political system, or your conditioned to hate somebody.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I agree with that, you're not well, wait a minute, Emily,
- 47:22Speaker 1: I'm going to put you on hold because I was
- 47:23Speaker 1: trying to jump in and you weren't letting me. But
- 47:25Speaker 1: I want you to be able to respond, so you can.
- 47:27Speaker 1: You can say something in a second, But I want
- 47:29Speaker 1: to go to your first point about Camaralo Anthony. I
- 47:32Speaker 1: couldn't disagree with you more. And it's not because the
- 47:35Speaker 1: things you're saying aren't true in certain scenarios. I think
- 47:38Speaker 1: that in some stories where tensions rise and people are
- 47:43Speaker 1: inexperienced in those moments, that there are things where you
- 47:46Speaker 1: then inevitably could make an argument in a courtroom somewhere
- 47:49Speaker 1: that this wouldn't have gone this way if people were
- 47:52Speaker 1: taught better things. But the difference is when someone takes
- 47:56Speaker 1: out a knife and stabs somebody in the chest and
- 47:58Speaker 1: kills them. Carmelo Anthony made it decision that turned him
- 48:02Speaker 1: into an adult at seventeen years old because he took
- 48:05Speaker 1: the life of another person. And we see that all
- 48:07Speaker 1: the time, where cases like that the person gets tried
- 48:09Speaker 1: as an adult. I don't see any version of something
- 48:13Speaker 1: where that decision making was done. And none of the
- 48:16Speaker 1: people surrounding Carmelo were describing it the way that his
- 48:20Speaker 1: defense attorneys were that it was an act of self defense,
- 48:24Speaker 1: because it sounded like from the description that multiple students
- 48:28Speaker 1: gave it suddenly happened that Austin was asking someone to leave.
- 48:33Speaker 1: It might have been physical the way that a teenager
- 48:35Speaker 1: is physical, like saying, hey, get out of here.
- 48:37Speaker 2: I'm a bigger kid than you. We don't want you
- 48:40Speaker 2: in our attent.
- 48:41Speaker 1: And if anybody doesn't know the totality of the story,
- 48:43Speaker 1: Carmelo was in a tent for a school that he
- 48:46Speaker 1: wasn't a part of during a track mate and so
- 48:49Speaker 1: a Carmelo Anthony made a threat something like say something
- 48:52Speaker 1: to me again and you'll regret it, to which maybe
- 48:55Speaker 1: Austin Metcalf did. But again, as someone who went to
- 48:58Speaker 1: school and is a man, there's a very big difference
- 49:02Speaker 1: between an argument of words and taking out a knife
- 49:06Speaker 1: and killing somebody, and that's something that the prosecution made
- 49:10Speaker 1: within their argument. That's something that they said is you cannot,
- 49:14Speaker 1: you know, answer a shove with murder. You can't respond
- 49:20Speaker 1: to being pushed by killing someone. And so I do
- 49:23Speaker 1: think that philosophically you and I are not that far apart.
- 49:27Speaker 1: But in specificity to this one story, in this case,
- 49:31Speaker 1: it's night and day to me, I could not disagree
- 49:34Speaker 1: with you more as I said in the Carmelo Anthony case,
- 49:36Speaker 1: because he chose to murder someone else. But I'm gonna
- 49:39Speaker 1: put you back on the air now to let you
- 49:41Speaker 1: respond to me.
- 49:42Speaker 4: Go ahead, Yeah, I agree with you. There's two different
- 49:45Speaker 4: things going on. Number One, all those arguments, I totally
- 49:48Speaker 4: agree with you. But the second thing is that psychologically,
- 49:52Speaker 4: it's been shown that the adult brain that these these
- 49:55Speaker 4: teenagers are still subject to all this emotionalism and peer pressure.
- 49:59Speaker 4: They do not make rational decisions until they're like, I
- 50:03Speaker 4: think it's estimated between twenty one and then like for
- 50:06Speaker 4: pot the effect on the brain, they were putting it
- 50:09Speaker 4: at twenty five before you should be able to smoke pumps.
- 50:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with that, agree because it doesn't make
- 50:12Speaker 2: your brain. But but I wouldn't say this here. Let's
- 50:14Speaker 2: let's try to have a conversation, right, I don't want to.
- 50:16Speaker 4: Put a weapon. Okay, a weapon in the hands of
- 50:19Speaker 4: somebody who's that is negligence because they can't control themselves.
- 50:23Speaker 4: So that's a separate issue here.
- 50:25Speaker 2: I gotta respond, You gotta let me respond. It's my
- 50:27Speaker 2: radio show.
- 50:28Speaker 1: So the thing I need to say to you is
- 50:31Speaker 1: that even though you're making the argument that a whole
- 50:34Speaker 1: lot of young people don't have the mental capability to
- 50:36Speaker 1: remove emotion from their decision making, a very small amount
- 50:40Speaker 1: of people of that age kill other people. So just
- 50:44Speaker 1: the simple thing that we're discussing, you don't you do
- 50:48Speaker 1: have more of it. I will admit this to Emily's point,
- 50:52Speaker 1: you do actually see younger people more likely to be
- 50:54Speaker 1: people who commit horrible, terrible crimes and take other people's lives.
- 50:59Speaker 1: That is more common than say a guy in like
- 51:01Speaker 1: his forties or fifties like me. I'm forty years old,
- 51:04Speaker 1: I'll be forty one soon. I'm less likely to be
- 51:07Speaker 1: the perpetrator of a violent crime in some ways, And
- 51:12Speaker 1: yet you still don't see a whole lot of it.
- 51:14Speaker 1: So you cannot argue that someone who's emotional and not
- 51:18Speaker 1: intellectual is then allowed, in any way, shape or form
- 51:22Speaker 1: to commit murder as the outcome of that difference in
- 51:25Speaker 1: his ability to think and my ability to think. I'll
- 51:28Speaker 1: let you back on again.
- 51:29Speaker 4: If he didn't have control, it's still negligence. I'm not
- 51:32Speaker 4: saying he's allowed to heal.
- 51:33Speaker 5: He should have had control.
- 51:35Speaker 2: What I'm saying is he should have had.
- 51:36Speaker 4: Control, right, but should response.
- 51:42Speaker 2: But thank you very much for the call.
- 51:43Speaker 1: Couldn't anyone that does something horrible claim that they weren't
- 51:46Speaker 1: in control? Like then we couldn't hold anybody accountable for anything.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Then if anyone does anything horrible and bad and you
- 51:52Speaker 1: say to yourself, why did you do a horrible and
- 51:54Speaker 1: bad thing, and the person goes, I wasn't in control
- 51:57Speaker 1: in that moment.
- 51:57Speaker 2: I was emotional.
- 51:58Speaker 1: We have to have law, we have to have rules
- 52:01Speaker 1: that our society is governed by.
- 52:03Speaker 2: And I think Emily for making the phone call.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I've never heard her voice before, so it's nice to
- 52:06Speaker 1: hear a new voice on the radio show.
- 52:10Speaker 2: But there has to be a line.
- 52:12Speaker 1: You can't say that someone is allowed to and you
- 52:16Speaker 1: are saying it, not that you're.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Using those words.
- 52:18Speaker 1: I'm the one using those words, but you are saying
- 52:20Speaker 1: that if you don't hold him responsible as an adult
- 52:23Speaker 1: for killing another person because he's seventeen and not eighteen,
- 52:27Speaker 1: and one year or a few years might make a
- 52:29Speaker 1: difference to the point that the listener made twenty five
- 52:33Speaker 1: for some things is actually truly a more developed brain.
- 52:37Speaker 1: But nonetheless, if that argument becomes commonplace in our society,
- 52:42Speaker 1: then more of these people who do horrific things would
- 52:45Speaker 1: get away with it, and we can't allow that. Our
- 52:48Speaker 1: laws are in place as a deterrent to terrible things
- 52:51Speaker 1: that people might do, and they are lessons that other
- 52:55Speaker 1: people learn. When I see someone do something horrible, I
- 52:58Speaker 1: say to myself, well, I'm not going to do that,
- 53:00Speaker 1: because this person who did this horrible thing got caught
- 53:02Speaker 1: and they got in a lot of trouble. It's not
- 53:04Speaker 1: the only reason I'm a Catholic, So I have other
- 53:06Speaker 1: reasons that I don't do certain things. I believe in heaven,
- 53:10Speaker 1: I believe in hell, I believe in being judged, I
- 53:13Speaker 1: believe in God. I believe in a lot of things.
- 53:15Speaker 1: So there's other reasons morally that I behave the way
- 53:18Speaker 1: that I do. But I just think it's interesting when
- 53:20Speaker 1: you excuse behavior and say you're excusing behavior for a
- 53:23Speaker 1: very specific reason.
- 53:24Speaker 2: What that would do to our society if it actually
- 53:26Speaker 2: became commonplace. We're out of time. I noticed that the
- 53:30Speaker 2: commercial did not trigger.
- 53:31Speaker 1: I'm going to play a little spot for you so
- 53:34Speaker 1: that we can have something that plays so it's not
- 53:36Speaker 1: just dead air. But then I'll be back tomorrow, and
- 53:40Speaker 1: I'll be back the rest of this week, and then
- 53:41Speaker 1: I'll be taking over mornings along with Wayne Deltrafino as
- 53:45Speaker 1: a contributor right here on KSEV, The Voice of Texas,
- 53:49Speaker 1: starting this Monday, right after we have the official sign
- 53:53Speaker 1: off of Chris Salceto on Friday, I will be part
- 53:56Speaker 1: of your new KSEV morning show on Monday morning.
- 53:59Speaker 2: Good night everybody. Hey God, bless you up.
