- 0:40there's one standing right in front of me that needs to get in
- 0:42here. You just got to push your way to
- 0:43the front. Just just push your way.
- 0:45You just elbow. Just elbow.
- 0:48But hey, here we go. Another Gil Athletics
- 0:50Connections alum. I'm allowing everybody else to
- 0:52introduce themselves instead of me doing so.
- 0:54Introduce yourself to the crowd here today.
- 0:57I'm Jim. Scrabber I'm the director of the
- 0:59University of. And you're going to have to
- 1:02speak up a little bit. You know it's it's loud here.
- 1:04I mean everything that you're hearing right now this is what's
- 1:06going on all around us. It's it's quite amazing when you
- 1:10put a bunch of coaches together and how much we'll we'll chat
- 1:13along here. So Spec, tell me how many years
- 1:16you been coming to the Dimension and what are you most looking
- 1:18forward to this week here at this year?
- 1:20But I'm proud to say that I've been to every convention and and
- 1:25and I just love coming here. I think Sam seems and his group
- 1:29does a. Phenomenal job.
- 1:31Shout out to Sam seems and shout out to Sam's the crew because
- 1:35love Sam, but he ain't doing this all by himself.
- 1:37He's got a great, amazing staff that supports us 365 days a
- 1:41year. Yeah, sorry, I just wanted to
- 1:42give a shout. Out Sam has really made this
- 1:46such a professional event and everything from Bowerman to our
- 1:51Coaches Hall of Fame banquet, of course, the wonderful
- 1:54symposiums. Getting you guys here, the
- 1:58industry out here to meet us. Absolutely.
- 2:00And then, obviously, the fellowship and, you know,
- 2:03catching up with all friends. Last year you spoke in the
- 2:07symposium. You were a teacher.
- 2:08Are you teaching this year? Or yeah, I've done it the last
- 2:11two years and so this year I'm gonna.
- 2:14Let somebody. I'm gonna let somebody else do
- 2:16it, but I enjoy attending those and and a lot of my friends are
- 2:22ones that are presenting and so I always like to go and.
- 2:24Support them. So if you could only.
- 2:26And I'm gonna put you on the spot.
- 2:27If you could only go to one thing.
- 2:29Not just symposium, but one thing.
- 2:30Hall of Fame, Dinner environment.
- 2:32See your buddy speak. Go to a committee meeting.
- 2:34If you could only do one thing this week, what would it be?
- 2:37Actually, the Coaches Hall of Fame.
- 2:41Big reason for that is a lot of my mentors, a lot of my friends,
- 2:46a lot of my colleagues and years are all in it and.
- 2:51So really an amazing group. I mean, they're amazing every
- 2:53year. But this year, as I was reading
- 2:55through the list, I'm like, Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh,
- 2:57like, they're amazing. Yeah, Yeah.
- 3:00And and and that's great that they have an opportunity to be
- 3:03recognized. And be celebrated and some of
- 3:08them have been retired and it's past due, right?
- 3:11And then there's a lot of them that are still in their pride.
- 3:14As. It shows you that we're really,
- 3:19really recognizing the people. That put so much.
- 3:24Into this one. Yeah, that that we're standing
- 3:27on their shoulders as coaches today and what they did.
- 3:29And now we're we're building it so future coaches can stand on
- 3:32these big old shoulders right here.
- 3:34All right. So Mr. Sprecher here, we've got
- 3:35100 questions, just kind of random fun questions.
- 3:38You get to pick the number one through 144.
- 3:41What's the significance of 44? 4 is my favorite number.
- 3:44All right. You didn't want to go 4OK.
- 3:47All right, well, this is a good one.
- 3:49It's Space Invaders Time. What's your favorite video game
- 3:51of all time? Let's see, This shows you how
- 3:54old. I am.
- 3:55Don't say pong. So I'm gonna say that I can
- 3:58still remember when Pong, but now I'm gonna say Pacman.
- 4:03Oh, classic. As a classic 80s game.
- 4:05And that's kind of, you know, when I was a video game.
- 4:09Did you have you guys purchased a Nintendo Switch?
- 4:12I don't have anything like. That so they've got a Pacman on
- 4:14there where you play against 99 other people in the world.
- 4:17OK, it's. Awesome.
- 4:19You got to check it out. It was one of when we first
- 4:20bought our switch, I was addicted.
- 4:22Now I'm addicted to Portland. OK.
- 4:24Hey, speaker. So another thing that we're
- 4:25doing this is exclusive. You're in a small club.
- 4:28Here is any Gil Athletics Connections alums that are on
- 4:32the live podcast here. So I grilled you for a couple of
- 4:35hours. You know, it was a long process
- 4:37to get through your whole story. It was very probably, you know,
- 4:41had to take a nap, I'm sure after that.
- 4:43So I'm going to let you flip the script and you get to ask me one
- 4:46question. We're going to go back to our
- 4:49days of. Allstate.
- 4:50Oh, yes. And I remember at Allstate we
- 4:54had a collection of reptiles. Yeah.
- 4:59Would you like to share it with everybody?
- 5:01Yeah, you know, I don't have them now because I'm married.
- 5:05My wife forbade me. But yes, I had.
- 5:08I've always. I grew up a huge snake fan.
- 5:11Like I moved a lot and everywhere that I would move
- 5:13into the new school. First thing you have to do is go
- 5:16to the library and read all the snakes.
- 5:18And that was just this before the Internet.
- 5:19You remember those days. And so I would read them all
- 5:22right? And so when I finally got to
- 5:23college, when I was finally able to get my own reptile, I bought
- 5:26a ball Python. All my snakes, by the way, were
- 5:29all named after herdlers. Who?
- 5:31Who do you think ski skeets? The very first one.
- 5:33Bingo. Exactly the all times.
- 5:35Now I'd have a Grand Holloway and a tray and those kind of
- 5:39Niali. That's what I would name about
- 5:40now. But I had a ball Python.
- 5:41And then when I was coaching junior college, I just got so
- 5:44lucky in Kansas. They had a big reptile, big
- 5:47snake collection that they were pairing down to.
- 5:49Only snakes that were native to Kansas.
- 5:52All those snakes they were going to get rid of and they knew I
- 5:53was a snake guy so I I got an 8 foot red tail boa.
- 5:58I got a little 1 foot massasago rattlesnake.
- 6:01I can't remember the other ones, but but really I loved my
- 6:05snakes. I really did.
- 6:06They were all you know, you couldn't pet the rattlesnake.
- 6:08The 8 footer had an attitude so you couldn't pet him either.
- 6:10So, but I had a great time and now my wife, she didn't say she
- 6:15divorced me, but I also kind of thought about calling her bluff.
- 6:18It's like, well, if I get a snake, what are you going to do?
- 6:20You ain't going to pick it up and get rid of it, you know,
- 6:21It'll just be there. So.
- 6:23But we did. We got this slever deal of free
- 6:2660 gallon fish tank. And there is a tank, a fish
- 6:30called the African rope fish. And it looks just like a snake.
- 6:34It has two little fins up front, but it's long, thick.
- 6:36They look just like snakes. It's it's scratch my snake fish.
- 6:40I'm good. I'm really good.
- 6:41Yeah, that's a good question, man.
- 6:42I love that. All right, my friend.
- 6:43Let's take our selfie here today.
- 6:45Thank you again for being on the live show, man.
- 6:47Appreciate you very much. Thank you.
