- 0:00Are we live? Yeah.
- 0:02Wait, we're live. We're streaming right now.
- 0:04We're streaming on Twitch. On the Daily BJ Twitch channel.
- 0:08Everyone turn on your cameras because it's the Twitch channel.
- 0:11Yes, which I will definitely be making by the time this airs.
- 0:14Right now it's Twitch with a silent T and it's TUITCH.
- 0:23What Twitch? You know, I used to have a
- 0:25twitch. You didn't.
- 0:27Like a physical 10. I want to.
- 0:30I want to have the doctor for it.
- 0:31Would they prescribe you? No, they looked at my mom and
- 0:34they said, he's just shrugging because my mom would ask me
- 0:39questions and she'd be like, mijo, what do you want to eat
- 0:41for dinner? And I would just, yeah, like,
- 0:43shrug my shoulders. And I would do it so often.
- 0:45And my mom thought I was twitching.
- 0:46She's like, after the 300th time, she was like, I have to
- 0:49take this boy to the doctor. Yeah, and then she said, Mijo,
- 0:51we're not paying that copay again.
- 0:53Figure it out. What?
- 0:54If I call you Twitchy Webito, Yeah, say that again.
- 0:58He's been calling me a certain name.
- 1:00As of this morning, Jerry has a new nickname.
- 1:02It's Webito. Because he's egg boy.
- 1:04He loves eggs. And I will call you Twitchy, OK?
- 1:07I think that's good. I can't believe I shared that
- 1:10today. Thank you.
- 1:11Anyways, welcome to the Daily BJ.
- 1:14I'm Brian. I'm Jerry.
- 1:17And together with the daily BJ. Daily.
- 1:20Not weekly. Daily.
- 1:22Am I drunk? No.
- 1:24I'm watching Jerry drink and I think I'm drunk.
- 1:26It's osmosis. We're here with the special
- 1:29guest. You've heard us talk about this
- 1:31person, talk about what we do with him on a weekly basis, what
- 1:35we've. Done to him.
- 1:36What he's done to us, what he's done to us, the pain, the
- 1:39torture, but also the elated sensation.
- 1:42There's been laughs, there's been tears.
- 1:45There's been singing. There's been singing and
- 1:47dancing. And dancing.
- 1:50And emotional trauma. Damage.
- 1:53Sorry, emotional damage and pain.
- 1:55Ladies and gentlemen, please give a round of applause to not
- 1:58only a dear friend, a close friend.
- 2:02Dare I save my biological father?
- 2:05But he is our Dungeon Master. Yes, we have our friend Matt
- 2:09here. Hello.
- 2:10Hello. Hello.
- 2:11Thank you for having me. It's, it's, I think it's the
- 2:15hair and the beard that really like, you know, people can tell
- 2:19us apart. Like, hey, you know what?
- 2:20That's his kid. Yeah, I see.
- 2:21Look a lot. A lot.
- 2:22The jeans have definitely come through.
- 2:24Your blonde beard is slowly coming in, and your blue eyes.
- 2:30The blue eyes are, yeah, I think it's a blue eyes series.
- 2:32Blue eyes are they're slowly getting there someday.
- 2:35Someday. Someday, yeah.
- 2:39Oh. We're here with Matt, who is our
- 2:44dungeon Master, our DM. Yes, the source of our pain and
- 2:48suffering. Yeah, Two years.
- 2:50Two years for Jerry specifically.
- 2:51November is when we started the first time.
- 2:53Your two year anniversary. My 2 year anniversary, is it
- 2:55coming up? Yeah.
- 2:57Damn, we got to go big. I know we got to go big.
- 2:59Something someone's got to die. We go back to Stride.
- 3:02Oh my God, we get the gang back together.
- 3:04You. Wanting to go back to stride.
- 3:06No, no, Curse of Stride everyone.
- 3:10If you want to cry yourself to sleep, play this game.
- 3:14Yeah, so introduce yourself, Matt.
- 3:16You're a Dungeon Master. What does that?
- 3:19Mean so as a dungeon master, I, I guess I control the game of
- 3:25D&D Dungeons and Dragons. I'm, I'm more of a, consider
- 3:30myself a world build builder than a storyteller.
- 3:35I look at the players as the storytellers and I just create
- 3:37the world and you know, I, I just facilitate this game that
- 3:43we play weekly. That's a big word for Elmo.
- 3:46Weekly. That's that's crazy to think
- 3:49about. That's a blessing.
- 3:51It's a skill. It's a hardest part of the
- 3:53entire game. You know, it's it's legit when
- 3:57you hit up your friend and you're like, hey, man, you want
- 4:00to hop on, play some, you know, Fortnite, play some rivals,
- 4:03whatever. And they're like, can't, I'm
- 4:05prepping for tomorrow. And by prepping, it's like, you
- 4:08know, all the background, all the background things that us as
- 4:11players don't see, right? Because it's DM stuff.
- 4:14Because he hasn't planned. Created out of his own little
- 4:17mind. Yeah, it's a trip.
- 4:19It's, it's more of, you know, I had one of my old DMS tell me
- 4:25that D Ming is like making a cookie, but the players decide
- 4:30what goes between it. So it's like you could be making
- 4:32a sandwich. You create the bread and the
- 4:35players create the inside of it, you know?
- 4:37So think of it as like, it could be two cookies on the outside
- 4:41and then steak in the middle. Like, you never know what it's
- 4:44gonna be, you know? That sounds pretty good.
- 4:47It sounds like our games where he has a plan and we completely
- 4:51do the opposite of yeah, what's expected.
- 4:53Yeah, that's crazy. Did you make me a sandwich?
- 4:57You made me a sandwich. So the same day that we totally
- 5:02live stream to you guys when you listen to these episodes?
- 5:05Yeah, the day we meet for Dungeons and Dragons.
- 5:07Yep. But a Thursday tradition now for
- 5:09Thursday. Since what, in January of this
- 5:11year? February, Yeah, so good.
- 5:13Like 6-7 months. Something like that, yeah.
- 5:16Yeah, about that, yeah. Where we all get together, we
- 5:19have all our dice, all our trays.
- 5:22Our salaries. We just had our 24th session.
- 5:2420. Fourth of our second.
- 5:25Campaign. Second campaign.
- 5:27Yeah. 24th sessions. Yeah.
- 5:29And it feels like we've only itched the surface.
- 5:33Yeah. You know, like, yeah, who knows
- 5:35what's next? And, and I wish we can go into
- 5:37detail about like what we're doing and everything, but it's a
- 5:40lot, guys. If you guys really want insight
- 5:42on what our campaign is, our first one is on Spotify.
- 5:46Yes it is. We would love for you guys to
- 5:47listen to that. Yes, it is.
- 5:48That'd be amazing yeah, that that campaign was was was kind
- 5:54of like, you know, new for both of you guys completely never
- 5:58playing before and Dulce and you know, like that was my first
- 6:03time DM ING like a full full campaign in a couple years too.
- 6:07And what a different second thing is compared to women.
- 6:13Yeah, man, that was like just horror, horror, horror.
- 6:16Thank you. I was about to say, can you
- 6:17describe it in one word? What the campaign was, yeah.
- 6:20Horror. Yeah, it was a horror campaign.
- 6:21It was. So yeah.
- 6:24Well, I would like to dive into some questions for sure.
- 6:26Yes. And for the first question I'd
- 6:29like to ask you what is Dungeons and Dragons for those that don't
- 6:32know? And why do you think people
- 6:34should give it a try? So Dungeons and Dragons is a
- 6:39tabletop role-playing game where you sit down with friends and
- 6:46play make believe. There's a many ways to play it.
- 6:52You can go off of a module, which is like a a book you can
- 6:55buy off the shelf and it'll give you the whole story front to
- 6:58back. You can run it that way and just
- 7:01it's adventures. And I always look at it as the,
- 7:04the, the greatest video game of all time.
- 7:07You know, it's, if you like video games, board games,
- 7:11anything like that, mysteries, movies, It's, it's all that in
- 7:15your mind. You know, I think the best part
- 7:18about it, why people should give it a chance is because it's,
- 7:22it's once you're in a group like we have, that's like a solid
- 7:26thing and you like find that, that, that group, which is very
- 7:30hard to find. We do have something special, I
- 7:32believe. But either way, it's like
- 7:35community, you know, like just being able to create something
- 7:39with a group of people and live and play and just like, you feel
- 7:45like you're in that world when you're there for those a few
- 7:48hours a week, you know? And I think that's the biggest
- 7:50thing, is it brings people together that you wouldn't
- 7:53expect whatever come together, you know?
- 7:55And it's like, I believe that D&D connected all of us and
- 7:59maybe never would have even met or known each other otherwise,
- 8:02which is pretty cool. Yeah.
- 8:03We're all very diverse and I think it's just a very cool
- 8:07thing to do. We had been talking about it for
- 8:09like months before Jerry met you.
- 8:13I had thrown around the idea of like, oh, Dragons always like to
- 8:17play because I don't know if it what people nowadays is if it's
- 8:22something new that you've like seen on social media or
- 8:25something. I first discovered it with
- 8:27Critical Role. No idea what it was.
- 8:29It was just recommended on a YouTube video and I'm like, what
- 8:32the heck, This is so cool. I want to do this.
- 8:34And I think the interest is it draws in different types of
- 8:39people for different reasons. The reason I was so interested
- 8:43in it, in it and why it I have so much fun doing it, is I came
- 8:48from like a theatre background way back then in high school,
- 8:51where this to me is like you're living and breathing improv.
- 8:54I love that. Right, that's amazing.
- 8:57Like I I very antisocial growing up.
- 9:02I would just, you know, like I had friends of course, but it
- 9:04was always a small group of friends.
- 9:06I was a musician and a nerd and just like to stay home and do
- 9:12bad things but. Elaborate.
- 9:14I'm kidding. Commit to your crimes.
- 9:18I was, I was very, I'm very shy. I still shake at times when I
- 9:22have to speak in front of you guys.
- 9:23Like internally I'm like vibrating sometimes, you know,
- 9:26just 'cause it is like the first time I ever played D and DI was
- 9:30like my hand was shaking trying to write notes, you know, I was.
- 9:33Like me the first time I played with you guys.
- 9:35Yeah, same. But it's just wild to think that
- 9:37now it's like, I can just comfortably do this, you know?
- 9:41Yeah. And but I think that's what it's
- 9:43all about is like, like you said, you already had this in
- 9:46you. I didn't have it in me until I
- 9:48was 35. You know what I mean?
- 9:51Which is crazy to think about. Yeah.
- 9:54And I think that's like that'll lead me on to my next question
- 9:56because you answered some of it. But why do you think it's such
- 10:01an important game to you personally, and what keeps you
- 10:03coming back after all these years?
- 10:08So I think the, the thing about it is I've always loved video
- 10:12games, movies, like comic books, like escapism, you know, like
- 10:19just to be able to go to another, another area and
- 10:23another world and be somebody you're not.
- 10:26And just like, you know, be that cool guy walking into an alien
- 10:30bar with a blaster on your hip, like just awesome, you know,
- 10:34like, and that's what always keeps me going as Adm is like,
- 10:40what world can we go into? Like, what can we do next?
- 10:43You know, And I think like on a like a more meta personal level,
- 10:49it's like the the the friendship and the hanging out every week.
- 10:53It's an excuse for us all to hang out, you know, and just
- 10:57like like we always do it mainly Thursdays, but how like this
- 11:01last weekend was like, we did it a brunch and made a day of it,
- 11:05then all like couldn't breakfast and that shit's rad.
- 11:09Like people don't even do that just hanging out.
- 11:11And especially these days, you know, and so I think like the
- 11:16friends and the, the friendships and relationships is a big part
- 11:20of what keeps me going. And the stress reliever you can
- 11:24have like, like, you know, we mentioned before how like
- 11:27Thursdays are always the worst day of the week, but then play
- 11:29DND and it's just like such a stress reliever, you know, just
- 11:33to get away, think about other stuff and just let it go.
- 11:37That's awesome. I think it's definitely
- 11:39self-care for a lot of us. And like you said, it's a
- 11:42Thursday. It's like at the end of the
- 11:43week, but not really. And then it makes Friday so much
- 11:46more enjoyable and it makes it go by so much faster.
- 11:50You're like, wow, I just had a really nice, cool session or
- 11:52really shitty intense session, but it still feels like a dent.
- 11:56That was really fun. You know we.
- 11:58Have one more day till the weekend.
- 11:59One more day and then it's a weekend, you know?
- 12:01But we got to escape our regular life for a couple hours and I
- 12:05think that's so cool. And yeah, be that person you
- 12:08aren't comfortable being in, are not normally in real life and
- 12:12expand on that, you know, have fun with it.
- 12:14And yeah, I think that's, I think it's awesome.
- 12:16Totally, and you get to play around with with the like the
- 12:20character building is one of my favorite things for the game.
- 12:24You do have there's a certain set of classes, people who are
- 12:27not super in the know the game. You have your DM, which would be
- 12:31Matt, telling us what the world is, and we create our
- 12:34characters. How are they gonna exist in that
- 12:36world? How are they gonna cooperate
- 12:37with one another? Yeah.
- 12:39How are you gonna either inject yourself in this character or be
- 12:42someone completely different? How are you gonna adapt to that?
- 12:45It's so fun. Yeah, it is fun.
- 12:47And being on this side of the screen, like, it's like, I get
- 12:53to watch this is like my, my weekly Game of Thrones, you
- 12:56know, like I just get to like. Here's Brian.
- 13:00Never seen it go. Play and like, you know, just
- 13:02watch what you guys do together. It's never what I expect.
- 13:06Yeah, you know, like I'm always, I always feel proud when, when I
- 13:10can hook you or get the gasp or get the, the, the shock at the
- 13:15table or whatever. And then I'm like, yes, it were,
- 13:18yeah, you know, but there's so many times when you guys do that
- 13:21to me, you know? And it's just like, oh man, I
- 13:23didn't see it going this way at all.
- 13:27And so, yeah, that's, that's the best part of it.
- 13:29And it's really cool. It's cute at the table.
- 13:32Like sometimes I'll look around and I see the gears turning in
- 13:35people's faces. Yeah, very specifically on
- 13:37Frenchy and would say I just literally, I'm like, they're on
- 13:41to something. Yeah, something's cooking.
- 13:43Yeah. The the, the brains of the team
- 13:46are working. Yeah.
- 13:47The leaders, yeah. No, it's, it's always a trip.
- 13:50When you expect one thing, it does it.
- 13:53You make a left turn and you're just like, how the fuck did we
- 13:56get here? You know what the hell is going
- 13:57to happen next? Like, yeah, it's it's super
- 13:59cool, right? If you get a chance, do it.
- 14:02Yeah, Listen to our episode, listen to the To the Morning
- 14:05Crew Spotify episodes. You'll you'll get the gist.
- 14:09It's so much fun. I'm telling you guys, you need
- 14:11to try it at least once. Yeah.
- 14:13At least. Once.
- 14:14So for those new, brand new players, what does a typical DND
- 14:20session look like? And it could be from start to
- 14:23finish, same day, but as a Dungeon Master, how do you help
- 14:28set that stage? And you kind of talked about
- 14:29this already. Yeah, like one thing that I
- 14:35think that's important for Adm, especially depending on like if
- 14:39you're playing a game like us, where we're weekly, we're on
- 14:41schedules, we have lives, we all have to get up early the next
- 14:45day. Like time, time management is
- 14:48like the biggest thing in DND that's hard to manage, you know,
- 14:52And I think when you set up a session, you got to always like,
- 14:59I'll have three to five things ready to go and I'm always ready
- 15:02to throw three to five things out the window.
- 15:05You know, like it's like, I know where I want to start you guys,
- 15:08you guys, I give you an objective, you know, you have to
- 15:12get there somehow. And from there it's however you
- 15:15want to do it. And I just try to think of the
- 15:17time and it's like, I, I've think I've gotten really good
- 15:21over this last year or so, like budgeting what we can and can't
- 15:25do, you know? And there's always a thing where
- 15:29you, you know, start and there should be a fork in the road
- 15:32that takes you two different directions just so you guys have
- 15:34options. Yeah.
- 15:35But you should always be ready to throw those options out the
- 15:39window, you know? But I think for a simple
- 15:43session, if you're just to run one your first time ever, I have
- 15:47like a, a model that I kind of use where it's just a, you know,
- 15:53get in, get an item, get out, keep it simple, keep it basic.
- 15:59And it, it really just all depends on what you want to do.
- 16:01There's a lot of one shots online and things that can
- 16:04explain the game to you. But for like full campaign
- 16:06sessions, when we're at the point we're at right now, it's
- 16:09just kind of like I have an idea and a guideline.
- 16:13But again, it's really tough to, this is a tough question because
- 16:16it's like it really depends on what's going on in the game, you
- 16:20know? Yeah.
- 16:21I kind of rambled, sorry. No, no, no.
- 16:23I was going to say, you mentioned one shot.
- 16:24Can you explain what a one shot is for the Yeah so.
- 16:27A campaign is usually two or more sessions.
- 16:30I would say technically I would think 33 sessions and it's a
- 16:36full story, however long. But a one shot is a story then
- 16:40and a game you could play all in one single sitting.
- 16:45You know, you, you want to have a beginning, middle and and a
- 16:48resolution solving a murder, playing a game of clues, kind of
- 16:52like a one shot. You want to figure out who
- 16:56killed this person or who stole this item or you guys save the
- 16:59Princess from the castle. It's just a game where you sit
- 17:02down one whole session is it's completely over.
- 17:05The story's over. Cool.
- 17:07Yeah. Now you know.
- 17:08Yeah. One shot.
- 17:09One shot. Do it right now.
- 17:11Try. I would love to try one DM ING
- 17:15session, I think just on the creative.
- 17:17I think you'd also be really good at that, Brian.
- 17:19The creativity part is what excites me the most of like like
- 17:23you said, I'm going to have 345 options, let's see which one
- 17:26goes. But what blows in my my mind is
- 17:29how do you have so much developed that you can do either
- 17:32one of those? So I mean, I think it might come
- 17:36to a surprise to you guys, but I would say now I've I've learned
- 17:39after all these years, well, you know, I've probably been playing
- 17:43for about 6 and DM ING for probably 4 of that time.
- 17:48And now I know to I don't bring a lot prepped.
- 17:53I know the, the, the gist of the story.
- 17:55I know The Who, what, where, when, why that kind of stuff.
- 17:58But all the little things like I, I think the best DM's roll
- 18:03with the punches and allow the players to really build the
- 18:06story, you know, but it all depends on the type of game you
- 18:10want to play. But the game we play is the way
- 18:12I run things is very cinematic and very storytelling.
- 18:16And that's the story matters. And so I always think like in a
- 18:22situation like that, it's you guys tell the story and kind of
- 18:28lost track of what I was, what the question was again.
- 18:31How you kind of answered it? How do you you have so many
- 18:36ideas? Is there some things that you
- 18:38would Then you're like, you know what?
- 18:39That was really good. I want to recycle that for
- 18:41something else. Oh.
- 18:42Yeah, You never throw them away completely.
- 18:44You just always set them aside for another day.
- 18:47You can always rescan it. You could the, the, the bank
- 18:51robbers don't always have to be bank robbers.
- 18:53They could be a gang later down or a group of thugs here and
- 18:55there. You know, like I always have
- 18:58tons of ideas that I'm like, oh, that would be cool.
- 19:00That would be cool. That would be cool, you know?
- 19:02Bookmark it for later. Yeah, exactly.
- 19:05And like I have things from our current campaign that happened
- 19:07in that first couple sessions that can totally, I'm like,
- 19:11maybe I should bring that back up now, you know, like so yeah,
- 19:15it's definitely possible to to rehash anything.
- 19:18I think that as a player, I think that reminds me of like
- 19:21when your character dies and you spent like a lot of time on it
- 19:23and everything, you're like, I do not want to throw this away.
- 19:25So you just recycle the character change, you know, drop
- 19:29a letter and then just like reskin it.
- 19:31And it's not, it's not a bad thing, you know, but it's just
- 19:33it's funny how it goes both ways kind of man kind of kind of kind
- 19:37of. All right.
- 19:39Next question. Do you prefer a high level
- 19:44campaign with world shattering stakes or do it?
- 19:48Or do you enjoy the smaller quirky adventures that live in
- 19:51the margins? I mean, I, I feel like there's a
- 19:55place for both, you know, like right now we're in high fantasy,
- 19:59high stakes, everything matters. And and. 2 1/2 weeks, we're
- 20:05playing a Halloween 80s slasher. The one shot that doesn't, does
- 20:09not matter at all. And it's definitely staying in
- 20:11those margins. You know, you know what you're
- 20:13what it is. So as far as campaigns go, if
- 20:17it's something I'm investing my time into and and all that, I
- 20:21want it to matter, you know, But the most important rule at the
- 20:27table by far, as long as you're having fun, you know, that's
- 20:32that's the biggest thing. If you're not having fun, if
- 20:35you're uncomfortable with any of the, the, the topics or if
- 20:39you're not comfortable with a player like talking to you a
- 20:43certain way or treating you a certain way or the DM treating
- 20:46you a certain way. Anything that's, that's
- 20:49definitely 100% reason to not want to play at that table.
- 20:55But I also think that, you know, fun is the most important thing
- 21:00and, and you got to make sure that as long as you're having
- 21:03fun, it's the right game for you, You know, and if for me,
- 21:07again, the, the high fantasy, high stakes is always the best
- 21:11'cause it feels like you're like in the middle of, you know,
- 21:14every like every other week. Brian's like, is that music from
- 21:17Skyrim? You know, 'cause he's, I could
- 21:21even tell he's like, oh, I feel like I've did like that's what
- 21:24we're dealing with, you know, like I love that stuff.
- 21:26Like it, it's, it's really cool. And, but I think the right
- 21:31table, you get all of that. You know, this campaign we've
- 21:34had the the high stakes, we've had the the scary moments, we've
- 21:38had the laughter joke, stupid moments.
- 21:41Like. You know, and so I think that's
- 21:44the the best combo as long as you're having fun.
- 21:46We were super close to starting our own brewery at the top of
- 21:49the hill in a in a Gimbels house.
- 21:53You know what? Fuck the story.
- 21:55We're going to start our brewery here and just, you know, open
- 21:58up, open up shop. I think that's the the best part
- 22:01of our group is we have a lot of different personalities that
- 22:04make a very interesting bunch 'cause we do have like the more
- 22:09serious, at least my character is very goal oriented.
- 22:12But then we also have like Dave and Steph who just have the
- 22:17funniest one liner sometimes. But even I'm like, you know
- 22:21what, let's they're right. We we should move in this
- 22:23direction instead. I think it's a, we have a very
- 22:28unique group. We have like all types of people
- 22:31at our table that just make it so funny.
- 22:34Yeah. And.
- 22:35Playing with your friends, I think, and this goes back to
- 22:37your old point, Brian, how we thought about this, starting our
- 22:42own like, you know, group and everything and playing without
- 22:45knowing anything we're going to. Start from scratch.
- 22:47Someone who had played one one I think one shot or mini campaign.
- 22:51I don't remember how long they played.
- 22:52We're like, OK, you're going to be our DM, let's get people
- 22:55involved. Yeah, well, like, let's do it.
- 22:56We just got to buy the books and buy our dice and we'll make it
- 23:00happen. No fucking way, no shot.
- 23:02Like, I mean, you do, you can, but like it's, I think at this
- 23:07like from what we know, what we've seen it, it just it seems
- 23:10impossible. Yeah, we need to give, it seems
- 23:12impossible, Matt, some credit of the fact that him and Frenchie,
- 23:16the level of commitment I went, went in with like this basic
- 23:20knowledge of like, OK, there's going to be like paper maps on
- 23:22the table and have little characters.
- 23:25And even before I started, because Jerry had started like a
- 23:28good 2-3 months before I was included, I got a message from
- 23:32this person I haven't met saying, hey, by the way, go onto
- 23:35this website and create your character.
- 23:37Because the day I showed up, there's a little 3D printed
- 23:40character that I'm going to use for the foreseeable future.
- 23:45And they have this cool like visual map.
- 23:50It's it's not paper. They have ATV.
- 23:52Yeah, it's ATV. He.
- 23:53Has mood lighting. He has music from.
- 23:55Dave Yeah, they've like we were using the the maps, remember the
- 23:59the maps on the wall. Were our first maps for
- 24:01different maps. And like, we had so many maps
- 24:05printed that it was just like, my whole closet was just, I'd
- 24:08open it up and maps would fall out.
- 24:11And then Dave brought that TV over.
- 24:13He brought it over once or twice.
- 24:15And then like realized that like, I was like, Oh my God, can
- 24:19I like, use this all the time? And so it's literally been at
- 24:23our house now for a year and a half.
- 24:26And yeah, we have a really cool setup.
- 24:28We like to make it, you know, feel like you're playing DND,
- 24:33you're in the room, you know, like we're very much maximalist,
- 24:36so. No and and it's hard to cut you
- 24:38off, but if you walk into their place, like there they have the
- 24:42coolest setup ever. Like their walls are packed with
- 24:46just posters, like memorabilia, collectibles, toys, like mood
- 24:51lighting, like everything in their place is just like
- 24:54jaw-dropping because it's cool. So you guys have a super cool
- 24:57place, guys. I appreciate.
- 24:58That and and then yeah, same thing when I first sat down at
- 25:02your table. I think you dimmed the lights
- 25:04red and I say I think because I don't know my colors and you
- 25:10started reading the intro distrade and or what?
- 25:12I'm sorry it. Said Lord Drop, in case you guys
- 25:14didn't know Terry's color blind. Lord drop red green color
- 25:17deficient anyways. And then you started reading
- 25:20something off of like stride or something.
- 25:21I don't know if it was from the manual, but I was like, oh, fuck
- 25:24this. And there was there was a music
- 25:26in the background and I was like, oh, damn, this is it.
- 25:29Like fuck. That was when I was shaking.
- 25:31Like my moment of just like, oh shit, like bubble guts at my
- 25:35fucking blood pressure was like over 200.
- 25:38Yeah, crazy. But yeah, it's been, it's been
- 25:41an amazing. Word that I think about that
- 25:44opening session so much compared to where we're at now.
- 25:47It's it's a wild thing about. It's a journey, I think when
- 25:51when you try to go in around the Table 1 by 1 to describe your
- 25:54character. Yeah, dude, I was shitting my
- 25:56pants and I was like fuck, fuck. And like Frenchie had a super.
- 26:00I forgot who went first, but I think Frenchie went first.
- 26:02I think Sushi went after right. I would think Dave might have
- 26:05gone, but then I was like, uh, my character is he's an elf.
- 26:09He's like 6 to 1. He has green eyes.
- 26:13And. He does nature.
- 26:15He has nature stuff. And I was like, like, that was
- 26:17yeah, dude, I was losing my mind.
- 26:19I was like, it's, I was so nervous.
- 26:20That's funny. Yeah, honestly, Because to us
- 26:23the three of them were like. Pros.
- 26:25They are pros yeah, all three of them are pros and they're like
- 26:28fuck, they're judging me. I fucking suck at this already.
- 26:32I I was thinking about the role play I'm.
- 26:34Like we would always look at like sushi.
- 26:35Like can we do that? Yeah, we do that.
- 26:37Yeah. It was like the one play that
- 26:38was there and like he could see us, we could see him like, can
- 26:42we do this and. Then we look at, we look at Matt
- 26:44like. Will that work?
- 26:46Can we? Do that.
- 26:46Do that, yeah. So funny, but when you first
- 26:50came in, Brian, I remember what was the best part was your
- 26:56commitment. That's the thing, DND takes a
- 26:58commitment and it takes a committed person.
- 27:01And so I knew right away when you're like, oh, I've already
- 27:04listened to all the sessions up to.
- 27:06This point I did my homework. And I was like, what?
- 27:08And that was like 11 sessions or something.
- 27:10They're all like anywhere between 5:00 to 9:00 hours.
- 27:14Probably. Some of them are long.
- 27:16Yeah, that was when you guys were playing weekends and it was
- 27:18like. Super long hours, yeah.
- 27:21And then like. So when you came in, you were
- 27:25like, oh, you guys are like, like celebrities, like listen to
- 27:29you all the time, like. I had your voices through my car
- 27:32speakers for like 2 months. Yeah, damn, it's wild.
- 27:36But then we wrote that into your character.
- 27:37Yeah, yeah, I just him. Man, he was following us guys
- 27:41this whole time. I love.
- 27:42We had fights, we had near death experiences, right?
- 27:45He was my baby. And he was just watching.
- 27:48He was just watching. I don't like him at first.
- 27:49No one did. No one liked your.
- 27:51Effort. At the very end, people weren't
- 27:52trusting me. Well, we had a, We had like.
- 27:55A Hey, how about people watching?
- 27:57And a conspirer. Hey, I was just doing what I was
- 28:00told. I was under contract for sure.
- 28:03The bad guy You. Were you were allegedly
- 28:08allegedly and now you're bashful.
- 28:10I'm bashful. All right, well, so can you tell
- 28:14me what's the funniest or most chaotic thing a player has ever
- 28:17done at your table? I completely derailed your
- 28:20plans. Yeah, So funniest I would say
- 28:25honestly, like one that first comes to mind is the bakery
- 28:29inspectors, like the the bakery inspector thing.
- 28:34I that and that 20 of him just trying to like where you guys
- 28:38are all trying to lie to this old lady that you don't realize
- 28:41there's a hag and she's like trying to keep you out the whole
- 28:46time. And you guys are trying to lie,
- 28:47lie, lie, roll, fail, roll, fail.
- 28:50And then Dave out of nowhere just like, come on, guys, I'm
- 28:53sick of all the lying. Fine lady, we'll just tell you
- 28:57the truth. We're actually bakery
- 28:59inspectors. And then I told him to roll
- 29:02deception in your old and Nat 20 on it.
- 29:05And she was like, OK, come on in.
- 29:09Like you guys have to pretend to be inspectors inspecting the
- 29:12kitchen and all this stuff because you're looking for
- 29:16children pretty much. And then there's a bag in my
- 29:19house. And that really, I did not
- 29:22expect that at all. And that's just one of those
- 29:24things. It's like there's a saying rule
- 29:27of cool. You just got to let things cool
- 29:30happen if you know, And so that that that that was definitely
- 29:34one of the. Funnier moments.
- 29:36I agree. Yeah.
- 29:37Damn. For those that don't know, a Nat
- 29:3920 is a critical success. So how would you put that in,
- 29:44you know? So that's AD 20 is a 20 sided
- 29:49die. So rolling the highest number on
- 29:52it gets you the the biggest outcome for your damage when you
- 29:56roll damage. So you get to roll double your
- 29:58damage if you get a Nat 20 or a critical success.
- 30:02Amazing and. I will say, like, when that
- 30:06happened, I forgot if I was outside or I had tried doing
- 30:09something and then I was like, no, I'm just a stable guy.
- 30:12I'm just, I'm just here for the horses.
- 30:14And yeah, a hag is like this, like super evil, gross.
- 30:18Witch, witch, witch. Yeah, told Hag.
- 30:21Magical old lady. Yeah and disgusting.
- 30:24They were running a bakery but they were using non conventional
- 30:27cooking material. Yeah, they were cooking the
- 30:29kids. They were cooking.
- 30:31They were cooking in there. I I we will not say who ate
- 30:37those. I did steal a pelt, I think a
- 30:40rabbit pelt, which it was just a pelt.
- 30:42Oh, my gosh. Put it in my bag for so long.
- 30:44And then my back started moving. Yeah, this was sessions after I
- 30:46forgot about that pelt. I don't even know what I wanted
- 30:48to do with it. And then something was moving in
- 30:50my bag and it attacked me like at night because it was just a
- 30:54freaking. That's cool.
- 30:55Yeah. That's so crazy, scary,
- 30:57disgusting, disgusting. I think that was that was the
- 31:01episode episode because they recorded that one.
- 31:04I think of it as episodes, yeah, yeah, instead of sessions.
- 31:07I think that was the session right before I joined.
- 31:09It was because Baba Lai saga. Because we left.
- 31:13And I fell off a tree. And we were looking for Dave,
- 31:15right? Yeah, we went back looking for
- 31:16Dave. Yeah, that was for Rev. And he
- 31:19helped you find. Yeah, Dang, wow, look at that.
- 31:22I. Know this is making me nostalgic
- 31:24even though it was a year and a half ago, I want to go back and
- 31:27listen. Oh my God.
- 31:29All right, what's the hardest behind the screen decision
- 31:33you've ever had to make? Where where you had to choose
- 31:36between the rules and the story. So the hardest thing for me
- 31:44ever, as Adm by far, is, is watching one of my players die.
- 31:50And man, there's been some like, you know, Frenchie, she died
- 31:58three times, like, and one of them was from me as Adm, another
- 32:03one was from me as a player, and another one was for her just
- 32:06willingly giving her life. She said yeah, she's she's
- 32:09experienced at all. Yeah, she has.
- 32:11And like, so when I, you know, DM her her first death or
- 32:16whatever, it was very like it's touching and it's hard to think
- 32:21about, you know, like most recently in the last few years
- 32:25is definitely your character here.
- 32:28Jerry's I'm. Over three guys, I'm one for
- 32:32four now, but the. Session is campaign for now.
- 32:35It it's crazy to think how so your first dance was in session
- 32:413. Yeah, like early on my voice
- 32:43cried because I'm about to cry. I know.
- 32:45My jaw dropped listening to that.
- 32:46Like no way, Jeffrey, you just started.
- 32:49And it was just running out of the house and rolled again.
- 32:52This is this is the way that Jerry always dies.
- 32:55Yeah, he always rolls 2 Nat ones back-to-back and the opposite of
- 33:01a Nat 20 is a Nat 1 and that's something that usually is a
- 33:05critical failure and something bad usually happens however the
- 33:10DM wants to deal with. You're Jerry, you die.
- 33:12Yeah, but at our table I make, I could be a little tough
- 33:16sometimes, but I'm very forgiving on a lot of things.
- 33:18But with when it comes to crits, I make Nat funds mean something.
- 33:22Yeah. And so you were trying to jump
- 33:24out of the house and you rolled in that one.
- 33:28And so you kind of got stuck on it, like you were last in line.
- 33:31And I was like, OK, roll one last time.
- 33:33Everyone rolled before you got out.
- 33:35And then I was like, one last dive, that one, and the house
- 33:38just crumbled on you and you died.
- 33:41Your first character. My first character.
- 33:43And but man, what a freaking can I cuss on this.
- 33:48Yeah, of course. OK.
- 33:48Absolutely. What what what a fucking arc
- 33:50that you had as beauty O dude like main character.
- 33:55Totally. I think you were the Strad main.
- 33:57Character, I mean the way once again this goes back to Brian
- 34:00being double agent. I mean, he was building me up to
- 34:03be the next evil ruler of this place.
- 34:06I didn't. Think you would be evil?
- 34:07I just wanted you to be the. Ruler the guy that takes over
- 34:10the vampire, evil leader, king, whatever he was.
- 34:14OK, he just happened to be a vampire and a king.
- 34:16I just wanted to make you a king.
- 34:18Is that all you wanted, Brian? Is that all you wanted with him?
- 34:21No comment. My character was promiscuous.
- 34:25What? Do you mean by that?
- 34:27Elaborate. No comment.
- 34:30You have to listen. You have to listen.
- 34:32To find out, you have to listen to episode, whatever episode,
- 34:35all, all of them beauty O my character was for sure my first
- 34:39and favorite character cause of all the things that let up after
- 34:42that moment, right? Like the, the individual
- 34:45one-on-one sessions that happened after that death and
- 34:47death is death, you know? But in this campaign, it's so
- 34:51much more. Dude and like when seeing
- 34:54everything that you went through is beauty O and like I know the
- 34:59that tie up a campaign was your guy's first campaign.
- 35:02So going into this new campaign, it has you were 6-7 months in,
- 35:07like you said, and once still don't trust things because of
- 35:11the previous yeah, which is fine and totally makes sense.
- 35:16And so like I've seen the effects of that on layers.
- 35:20And so it's like seeing you die and then come back and then all
- 35:25the things that you went through in there and then Dave dying and
- 35:28like every everybody dying in that campaign pretty much.
- 35:32But beauty O and just how much do you remember?
- 35:35Like the the walk we took and stuff.
- 35:37You were you. Were devastated, I was.
- 35:40And like, I was just like, fuck, like I felt bad, you know, But I
- 35:44don't feel bad. Like, you know, I don't take any
- 35:46blame. I always.
- 35:47Yeah, no, never, please. At that point.
- 35:50Yeah, my dice. I rolled those dice.
- 35:53So I had the dice that killed my first character encapsulated in
- 35:59a Etsy like D20 holder, and it was a necklace that I wore for a
- 36:04couple months. That dice disappeared along with
- 36:07a necklace. I don't know where it went, I
- 36:09think I told you, but right before I moved, it's going to
- 36:10come out like it's going to be behind something.
- 36:13It did not. That thing disappeared.
- 36:14It vanished, but it took that dye with it.
- 36:16So right. Like, yeah, it was just, I don't
- 36:19know. That was a trip to that comment.
- 36:20I wonder if it's like like I have this red bracelet, which is
- 36:23allegedly when you it breaks, it's because it protected you
- 36:27from something. And I wonder, I wonder if that's
- 36:30what happened with your necklace.
- 36:32Maybe. Took all that negative energy
- 36:34and said you don't need this. I'm a little bit somewhere.
- 36:36Maybe. Maybe that.
- 36:38That's a cool way to think. About it but.
- 36:40Thank you. OK, OK, then I.
- 36:42I just said like, oh, yeah, no one's died.
- 36:44And then I remembered. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:47That one was really rough for, Yeah, like the look on your and
- 36:50Dulce's face, like when I like went in and again, two net ones
- 36:55back-to-back. Yeah, 2 back.
- 36:57To back two chances and you failed both times right
- 37:00back-to-back. And so, like, I rolled the dice
- 37:04and it's so funny when I go like, I think I have enough dice
- 37:07and then I have to go get more dice.
- 37:09And like, you guys are just like, oh, crap.
- 37:12Yeah, when he's when he's digging through those little
- 37:14shells and you hear the the dice, you're like, fuck, he's
- 37:18grabbing more. What the fuck?
- 37:20And then I turned and looked at you and I was like, So what is
- 37:23the last thing you'd be thinking about?
- 37:26And like, Dulce just was just like, Oh my God, Dave was upset
- 37:31with me. He talked to me afterwards.
- 37:32Like, I can't believe he sent the mind flare on us at Level 3.
- 37:37You know, he's like, I want this, I want this, I want this.
- 37:40I need all these items out to protect me.
- 37:43Dude, it was no joke. And I mean, I I did, I went
- 37:47outside. I fucking shed a tear, dude.
- 37:49I was crying. I was like, what the fuck?
- 37:50It was frustration, it was sadness.
- 37:52It was like, and nothing against Matt, like it was never again,
- 37:55but it was yeah, I was, you're like, am I cursed?
- 37:58Dude? I was pissed, dude.
- 37:59Like I was just like, why do why am I in this situation again?
- 38:04And then why are my dies giving me ones to kill me again?
- 38:07But yeah. And it was also because I think
- 38:09I spent a lot of time on the back story, a lot of time on
- 38:12like, even like the the friends of the how they're connected to
- 38:15the story and how they're connected to this.
- 38:17And it was a lot. Yeah.
- 38:18So I think that kind of like brought me back to like, hey,
- 38:21this this can happen. You know, death is real.
- 38:23And that was one of the first things you said for the second
- 38:26campaign. Yeah, this is in Shroud.
- 38:28Death is real here. Yeah, so you guys give it in
- 38:31Stroud. We would bring everybody back,
- 38:32you know there'd be. Consequences with a new crazy
- 38:35ailment? Yeah, you're blind.
- 38:36Exactly. But like, yeah, and this one, I,
- 38:39I felt so bad, like, and those are like the moments that like
- 38:43I, it just hits me sometimes. Like that session a couple weeks
- 38:46ago when I was like, it was just thinking of your guys's like the
- 38:51connection with your Ravager and all this stuff that nobody
- 38:54listening to this is going to understand.
- 38:56But just like telling these beats in these moments, you
- 38:59know? And then like I get to my to
- 39:02Jill, who is Frenchie, who is my wife and like just picturing her
- 39:07standing there alone with nobody to hold her and like be with
- 39:11her. Like I got so like, emotional.
- 39:14He was Karine Guy. He was Karine.
- 39:17I needed a minute, like I was just like, it hit me, you know,
- 39:20and like, I'm a very emotional person.
- 39:23Maybe that's why I, I DM, you know, It gets me through it.
- 39:29This game has got us through. We've been through a lot, but
- 39:32it's got us through a lot. I think it's just like, you
- 39:35know, both in game and out of game play DND guys.
- 39:39And you answer this, I think throughout your whole time here.
- 39:44But if someone is brand new to DND, whether you know as a
- 39:50player rolling for the first character or as Adm running
- 39:54their first session, what's one piece of advice you give them to
- 39:57make the game fun and memorable? We touched a lot on like just
- 40:04have fun. Yeah, but to like part of that,
- 40:07I think, and one thing of advice that I have learned now is there
- 40:11are no rules that that's the the number one thing is don't ever
- 40:16think like, oh man, they're not going to like this or it's not
- 40:21going to go that way or you want it to go here and be mad when it
- 40:24doesn't because it's, there's there's no rules to this game.
- 40:28And it should again, be fun. Of course there's stressful
- 40:32moments and things you go through at the table and things
- 40:35I go through with prep and you know, I spend, I don't know,
- 40:39probably 8 to 10 hours a week prepping like after work and
- 40:44stuff like that, you know, and just while I'm at work, I'm
- 40:48talking to my phone and like all that.
- 40:49And so it's like, it, it, it can get stressful and, but I just
- 40:54always try to remind myself that you're playing with friends and
- 40:59it should just be very a thing of release, a thing of enjoyment
- 41:04and just no, no stress. Don't bring stress to the table.
- 41:08And just remember it's fun and there's no rules.
- 41:11There's no right way to play D&D.
- 41:14There's no wrong way to play D&D.
- 41:16You know, like you can like Critical Role or you can like
- 41:20dungeons and daddies shout out, you know, and they're very
- 41:25different games and very awesome in their own ways.
- 41:28And so there's, there's no right or wrong way to do it.
- 41:30Just just have fun. Yeah.
- 41:32What's the biggest thing? Beautifully said.
- 41:35Brian, yes, I think you make a great DM.
- 41:38I think so too. We'll see if I ever do, we'll
- 41:40come back. We'll touch.
- 41:41Base I think Brian would have the voices, the story.
- 41:46Smoke. Look at that, yeah.
- 41:49Live in this table for 30 years. Where'd Brian go?
- 41:52I mean, that kind of sounds like.
- 41:53Yeah, but when I try to do my own accents in games and never
- 41:55works. Except when you do the humano.
- 41:58Oh my God. The Humano one's great.
- 42:00You're all a bunch of idiots. That literally can't comes out
- 42:02of frustration, which is great, which is like crazy.
- 42:05I should let it out because I'm like, I can't do anything to
- 42:08help them. They're being stupid.
- 42:10Dude, Humano is the most logical party member, yeah.
- 42:12But who? We have a team leader now.
- 42:14We have a team leader now. It is Brad Jackson.
- 42:17Good old Jill. Jill Clearwater Stillwater
- 42:20Stillwater. Jill Stillwater.
- 42:22Stillwater Clearwater is when the douche runs clear.
- 42:24Sorry, wait. What?
- 42:28Sorry. Keep going.
- 42:29OK, well, on that same note, I have a bonus question for you,
- 42:33and I did not tell you about this.
- 42:36There's a lot of creatures and beasts in the world of DND.
- 42:41Yeah. Which beast in DND?
- 42:46Or race. Or or race, sure.
- 42:49Or race. OK is your hear me out.
- 42:53What do you mean like a? Elaborate, Brian.
- 42:57Like hear me out is like OK, people won't find this
- 43:00conventionally attractive or what I'm like normally into but
- 43:03there might hear me out like OK guys like hear me out.
- 43:07I know y'all don't agree but like AT.
- 43:08Fling No, no, no, so this is this would be my hear me out is
- 43:15gnomes. So gnomes, I think always have
- 43:19the wrap of like the cute little jolly, Yeah, like Snow White 2
- 43:26shoes Snow White, you know, like all that kind of stuff.
- 43:29And like I think the best the the, the hear me out thing is,
- 43:33they're terrifying. If you asked me something that
- 43:37big running up to me, I don't care how happy they are.
- 43:40It seems very like forceful and very small and I can't get to
- 43:46them and they can outrun me and probably hurt me.
- 43:49And so I think you know, that's why Gimbal the the rogue gnome
- 43:56in our group or our our game. He's the scariest of.
- 44:00All you have said that. Multiple times like what's the
- 44:03movie with the with the little the little lawn gnome that has
- 44:06the teeth and like blonde gnome with teeth?
- 44:09I have no idea. Gosh, I can't remember, but
- 44:13yeah, I always thought that those tiny little rosy cheek,
- 44:17bearded, bald little, yeah, they're, they always terrified
- 44:24me. Always.
- 44:25Yeah, there. You hear you out there?
- 44:26You're right here. Hear me out.
- 44:27Like wait. Hear me out.
- 44:29Well. I might be confused on the
- 44:33question. OK, my let me let me rephrase or
- 44:36let me give you an example my hear me out.
- 44:39Like all this out if it doesn't work would be so I'm confused.
- 44:43Hear me out is like listen guys I know y'all don't agree but
- 44:49Stroud was kind of daddy. That's a hear me out like y'all
- 44:52might not agree but I'm over here like sweating down South
- 44:56when Stroud came out. Oh, so like a physical
- 44:58attraction? Yeah, Yeah.
- 45:00Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:00Oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh oh, oh, OK.
- 45:03I mean, that's easy now. Mind flares bro.
- 45:06Like whoa. With the slimy tentacle, yeah.
- 45:11They can like penetrate your mind, you know, like they mind.
- 45:17They can know your deepest desires and play with that kind
- 45:20of stuff while they you don't even.
- 45:23Have to spook to you? Yeah, and then afterwards you're
- 45:25left with your scramble brain calling them the freaking Chosen
- 45:27I. Mean well, that's how much
- 45:30you've fallen for them. They just whipped you.
- 45:32That's how whipped you are. Dude have.
- 45:34You. Seen a my player in the last 30
- 45:36days, I'm a little scared. Me.
- 45:39I don't know. I don't think so.
- 45:41We. Should check for signs in
- 45:42Frenchie. Oh my God, she's got purple
- 45:48eyes. Fun fun fact, since we're on the
- 45:51on the topic of Frenchie, the daily BJ has also I guess turned
- 45:56out to be a love matching game because our DM here married
- 46:02Frenchie through this podcast. And that's so crazy because
- 46:06Jerry married through the podcast.
- 46:09Through the podcast, Yeah, they met that day.
- 46:11Match came dude this is. They met that day and then got
- 46:14married like 2 years before. That's crazy.
- 46:16Yeah, wow. And.
- 46:17Then future guests Pedro Pascal is engaged to Brian.
- 46:25I love this level of manifestation.
- 46:28Roll for it. Oh, I will roll for it.
- 46:31He's going to roll for this. Oh, we're all rolling for this.
- 46:33Roll. I don't have to say, he said.
- 46:35Use my dice. Give me a luck.
- 46:36Roll I literally don't have a dice tray we're.
- 46:38Rolling live on the daily. BJ.
- 46:40A. 10 my he. Rolled A1 guy I'm.
- 46:43Not getting engaged to Pedro Pasai.
- 46:45Roll. Roll again.
- 46:47No, I'm committing to my fate. OK, that's fair.
- 46:50So what happens now? Whoa, what happens?
- 46:52Between me and Pedro, Pedro, if you're hearing this, I know
- 46:55there's still a chance. Just give him a chance.
- 46:58Yeah, maybe there's a Pedro Pasquale out.
- 47:01There maybe different maybe. Maybe Pablo Pasquale?
- 47:04Pablo Pascal Maybe. It's his.
- 47:06His brother. Maybe.
- 47:08Maybe, I don't know. Maybe.
- 47:09You know what? At least by association.
- 47:11I can't believe. You roll the one that's crazy.
- 47:14Well, he wasn't. Prepared.
- 47:15He's not his natural dice I don't have.
- 47:17AI don't have a dice tray. When was the last time you used
- 47:19those dice? I've never those are the ones
- 47:21Dave gave me. Oh, that was because they were
- 47:23rolling terrible for him. And I rolled them.
- 47:25I rolled them. It's because I don't have a dice
- 47:27tower. And Brienne, you.
- 47:29Need to burn those dice. Yeah, you do.
- 47:30What I have right here, funny enough, is my Azurek dice that
- 47:33I'm also too terrified to roll for anything else.
- 47:37Why? I don't know.
- 47:38No, it's fine. They were kind of hit and miss.
- 47:40Follow the juju, which is kind of fun.
- 47:41Follow the Follow the energy. As stressful as it is to get
- 47:44like A1 when it comes to like your life, sometimes when you
- 47:47try to do something and you get a one, it ends up being really
- 47:49funny. Yeah, that's true.
- 47:51Can I ask you guys a question? Yeah.
- 47:53So Speaking of dice, and this would be fun for the listeners,
- 47:57I think what are what is one of your like dice superstitions?
- 48:05Like any kind of do you guys do anything to charge your dice,
- 48:09talk to your dice, work with your dice?
- 48:12Do you believe in your dice that way?
- 48:13Like how? How do you guys look at your
- 48:15dice character? I have one under way.
- 48:18I have certain dice for certain players which like I like.
- 48:22If I use it for a one shot, I will not use that for my main
- 48:24character. Like these are like no my one
- 48:26shot dice are like the dice I hardly pay attention to.
- 48:29I don't touch those dice, but for a one shot they're like
- 48:32dispensable. I don't care.
- 48:33Like, yeah, I can use them anytime.
- 48:35Also, I'm not a fan if Dulce like rolls my D 20s if she needs
- 48:39like AD 10 or like, oh, I need that.
- 48:41We know when someone asks like I need like AD5AD6, right?
- 48:44Sure, those are like extras. But to roll AD 20, I think it's
- 48:48a little sacred. Yeah, I'm not gonna say no.
- 48:50I'm not gonna like no and then like take it out of her hand.
- 48:52But like, I feel like don't do that.
- 48:54Don't roll, don't roll my D 20s don't.
- 48:56Give it weird vibes, you know? Right.
- 48:58You know, or like when someone using my dice tower.
- 49:00That's fine, right? Just don't do it with my dice.
- 49:02Yeah, Frenchie won't let me touch your dice.
- 49:05She just refuses. I feel it.
- 49:06Good. Yeah.
- 49:07Yeah, that's valid. Yeah.
- 49:09I mean, if you want to touch my dice, you can.
- 49:11You roll a lot of not 20s, roll a lot of not 20s.
- 49:15He rolls really well. Matt Rolls.
- 49:17Last session he rolled A disadvantage and he said OK,
- 49:19disadvantage is when you roll with two dice, but it's at a
- 49:22disadvantage so you take the lowest.
- 49:24He rolled a 19 out of 20. Yep, Yep.
- 49:27And all the time I'm tell Brian like.
- 49:29Look over it. Yeah, it's true.
- 49:32Whereas rolling with advantage means you roll twice, you take
- 49:35the highest, which is fun. I also love that when you roll
- 49:39your dice, it's the wood. So it's always like that.
- 49:41Clank, clank, clank, right? I love that ASMR. If I had a
- 49:45bowling alley, it would be about the right size.
- 49:47I need to roll my dice. Wow.
- 49:54Yeah, I don't think I have superstition.
- 49:56I'm trying to think of like what I do with my dice.
- 49:58You're a little stitious. Well, I mean that right there.
- 50:00That's a superstition. You.
- 50:01You I don't I don't touch these. These are separate.
- 50:04He's not in this campaign. I used to do the same thing with
- 50:06the one shot, but then I bought some really pretty woods that
- 50:09I've just been using. I think I'll use different
- 50:13colors depending on different things because my character's
- 50:17color screen, my character's color scheme to me is very like
- 50:22jungle with like bright, a mix of bright neon.
- 50:25So I don't have them with me, but I have like this dark green
- 50:28one and then a bright orange one that I think of like senpa suchi
- 50:32Marigold flowers. So sometimes I'm like, oh, this
- 50:35is kind of feeling like like magic or like.
- 50:39Yeah. Death Afterlife related.
- 50:41So I'll roll the orange one and then I'll roll my green one for
- 50:44like all other stuff, but for damage.
- 50:45It's to my damage Ties is always the orange one always, yeah.
- 50:49OK. That's cool.
- 50:51Yeah, I haven't. I haven't touched my beauty of
- 50:53dice since my green like gold ones.
- 50:57I haven't touched them. I just, it just doesn't feel
- 50:59right. It's it feels like Yeah, it
- 51:01feels, it feels. I don't know.
- 51:02It's yeah, I don't like it. Jerry got me my first, Jerry got
- 51:06me my first set of dice and I lost him before I even played.
- 51:11Really don't know where they went.
- 51:12We got it for his birthday. They were.
- 51:14We're like cosmic something. We're like, perfect.
- 51:16Which is perfect cosmic. Brian.
- 51:17Yeah, Yeah, he lost it. Yeah, I have.
- 51:19No idea where they are. I went through So what show I?
- 51:21Went through all my kind of friends is that.
- 51:22I don't know. Hey gang.
- 51:24Oh shit, can you hear us? You watch it twitchy?
- 51:33Yeah, I thought I forgot about that Mister Twitch a lot.
- 51:38I know they do say that you sound like an owl.
- 51:41Who, who? Who says that?
- 51:46Who, who? Who?
- 51:47Who? That's rude?
- 51:49Who they? How dare they?
- 51:52How dare they? Dare they?
- 51:55There you go. He mental.
- 51:56Yeah. Wow, Matt, it's been a pleasure
- 51:59just from walking outside to throw away the trash and then
- 52:03you asking like, what are you listening to?
- 52:05I'm like, who the fuck? I'm like, oh shit, yeah, I've
- 52:09seen these guys. These are new, new people,
- 52:10right? And then I I did, I think I
- 52:12forgot your guys's name for the first time.
- 52:13I'm like, what's your guys's names again?
- 52:15But no offense, it was just that's fine.
- 52:17Terrible with names. Probably clear a few more times.
- 52:20To learn news and. Then he invited me into his home
- 52:23and I'm like. Yeah, you.
- 52:25Can either kill me or I can see his cool cards.
- 52:28Yeah, I don't need baseball. Cards and you show me baseball
- 52:30cards. Theoretically yelled really loud
- 52:32and it could have come saved you.
- 52:34Maybe. They lived on top, like on top
- 52:36of each other, by the way. We did, yeah.
- 52:38We were. They were neighbors.
- 52:42I never called you that once. He thought it, yeah, Nope.
- 52:47But never vocalized. Never said that.
- 52:49It's OK, we're we're proud to be bottom, but.
- 52:53Good for you. Love that, good for you.
- 52:54More representation. Exactly.
- 52:56That's awesome. It's 2025, goddamnit.
- 52:58Yeah, it is. But yeah, we were neighbors for
- 53:00a couple years and whenever we needed something, we would just
- 53:04lower the string with the, yeah, a cup or something, or like a
- 53:08plate. Is that a couple times?
- 53:10Don't scratch, dog. We did, yeah.
- 53:12We all got flour. Couple times.
- 53:13Sent beers back and forth that way, Some food back and forth,
- 53:17yeah. Yeah, that's cool.
- 53:19Good times. It was good.
- 53:20It was. It's crazy, Yeah.
- 53:22And now we have some dumb people who live up there so.
- 53:25Are they dumb? I mean.
- 53:27Yeah, they're dumb. Yeah, they're dumb.
- 53:29You're listening to this. You're dumb.
- 53:32Yeah. You got anything you want to
- 53:35plug? Yeah, you're a man of many
- 53:36talents. Many talents.
- 53:38Not really. I mean, you can see me on
- 53:42Thursday nights. Yeah.
- 53:46I don't know. You know, I don't.
- 53:47I don't have a lot of social media stuff.
- 53:49I just kind of, you know, keep it low key.
- 53:52He's elusive. Yeah.
- 53:53OK, but maybe we could, you know, maybe we could upload this
- 53:57new podcast, our news, that crap campaign we've been working on
- 54:01if people are interested, maybe if you leave a comment and
- 54:05subscribe and smash the like button is that.
- 54:08Yeah, I love this. Yeah.
- 54:10Do you have a like button on Instagram?
- 54:12We do, yeah. Follow us on Instagram daily BJ.
- 54:17Just a glimpse, a glimpse of what we do every Thursday and
- 54:20what's kind of taking over our lives.
- 54:22Yeah, when this episode drops, we'll have a little compilation.
- 54:25We'll post a little reel of yeah, what happens around the
- 54:28table so you guys can have a little behind the scenes that.
- 54:31'D be really cool and if you're interested or have further
- 54:33questions we obviously didn't dive into like the mechanics of
- 54:35D&D and like the character customization and build but like
- 54:39those are all things that I think are very accessible if you
- 54:41search up how to that's what I did but yeah, that's honestly I
- 54:44that's where you get all your information but if you have any
- 54:47specific questions for Matt myself, Brian, please throw it
- 54:50in the comments. Yeah, comment on the on the
- 54:52Instagram. We'll reach out.
- 54:53We'll find you. And I would say like there's
- 54:56lots of the for for shout outs, I guess I'll shout out Critical
- 54:59Role, Dimension 20 dungeons and daddies DM dudes like the the
- 55:07there's a lot of stuff out there, a lot of good resources
- 55:10that are the best best stuff. Lots of content you can just
- 55:14watch. If you just want to learn what
- 55:15it's about, just go watch some dimension 20 on dropout.
- 55:18It's the best. That's on my watch list.
- 55:22Yeah, same. Brandon Lee, Mulligan, it's top
- 55:25DM. Matt Mercer, Matt Colville.
- 55:29Those are probably the top three.
- 55:31Matt this. Ones Matt Olson is dungeons and
- 55:32daddies. Just dads.
- 55:34Yeah, OK. My mind is in the gutter.
- 55:38And it's funny every time they started like this is dungeon and
- 55:40Daddy's not a BDSM podcast so. That was more in line with what
- 55:45I was gonna. It's very loose.
- 55:47They they it's not hardcore, it's more role-playing.
- 55:50So but it's funny, funny stuff. I have a goal this year to or
- 55:55with this character to just expand on the role play and then
- 56:00just do more like do more of that.
- 56:02So yeah, we'll see. We'll see how that goes.
- 56:04Yeah, I think I've. But it's a campaign.
- 56:06There's more opportunities too. Yeah.
- 56:08It's not like we're fighting for our life every day.
- 56:09Exactly. It's every other day, every 3rd
- 56:12day pretty. Much but Thursday.
- 56:15Yeah, Thursday we're back. We're back, baby.
- 56:18Yeah, we've got a lot to talk about, lot of questions to ask,
- 56:21Yes. We do a lot of kissing, yes.
- 56:27We haven't done that yet. We haven't.
- 56:28I have you have. Yeah, my character doesn't
- 56:31remember it anymore though. Why?
- 56:33That's right. Because you at the DM asked me
- 56:37to give up a memory. Oh.
- 56:38That's the memory you. Gave and that was the memory.
- 56:40I gave up. I got a boyfriend waiting at
- 56:42home and he doesn't. I don't even remember him.
- 56:45You said who? Well, just a kiss.
- 56:46Oh, just a kiss, yeah. You said who, who, who he's a
- 56:51who he's an. Alone.
- 56:55OK guys. Thank you so much for listening.
- 56:57As you guys know it is song recommendation segment and I was
- 57:03told y'all have some song recommendations.
- 57:05I do. I brought a song because you
- 57:08asked me to bring a. Song guest of honor.
- 57:09You can go first. So in in honor of the great
- 57:15Brent Hines, one of my favorite bands ever, Mastodon, I want to
- 57:19say The Last Baron is the song recommendation off the album
- 57:23Crack The. Sky, I will listen to that on my
- 57:26way home. It's my favorite Mastodon song.
- 57:28Mastodon. Such a great name.
- 57:30Yeah. Rest in peace.
- 57:31Rest in peace man. My song is going to be New York
- 57:36by Sex Style. I think I've recommended some of
- 57:40their music, but great. You want to like pick up your
