- 0:21Speaker 1: Sal Licata is with us, the Sal Licata Show, wherever
- 0:24Speaker 1: you get your podcasts. I'm excited to speak with him today. Sal,
- 0:26Speaker 1: you're going to laugh at this. I didn't think anything
- 0:29Speaker 1: could put Taylor in a bad mood after the Knicks
- 0:32Speaker 1: raised a banner. He's been waiting his entire life to
- 0:35Speaker 1: see it. They are the defending NBA champions. It all
- 0:38Speaker 1: happened last night. I didn't think anything could put Taylor
- 0:41Speaker 1: in a bad mood today, but Brian Cashman somehow has
- 0:44Speaker 1: done the trick.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I mean, I understand it. They say nothing. I think
- 0:50Speaker 2: the biggest problem with the Yankees is that they don't
- 0:54Speaker 2: think they have a problem. That's an issue. It's not
- 0:58Speaker 2: only like, oh, well, what's the problem? Let's fix it.
- 1:01Speaker 2: It's like, hey, guys, how are you going to fix
- 1:03Speaker 2: your problem? They're like, what problem? We won 90 plus games. Like, oh, yeah,
- 1:07Speaker 2: guys got hurt or something. You know what happens? The
- 1:09Speaker 2: offense wasn't very good, but they got hurt. Like Steinberg
- 1:12Speaker 2: is talking like they don't think they have an issue.
- 1:14Speaker 2: That's the main issue to me. They don't think they
- 1:16Speaker 2: have an issue.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Sal, the point I come back to all the time
- 1:20Speaker 3: is that Hal Steinbrenner was like George Steinbrenner's third choice
- 1:24Speaker 3: to run this organization. And every time Hal Steinbrenner opens
- 1:28Speaker 3: his mouth, you're like, oh, yeah, that's why his dad
- 1:30Speaker 3: didn't trust him. He says in his press conference, Aaron
- 1:35Speaker 3: Boone managed a good season. And the bottom line is
- 1:37Speaker 3: the players didn't live up to their end of the
- 1:40Speaker 3: bargain in the playoffs. We've been telling you the players
- 1:43Speaker 3: wouldn't live up to the end of the bargain this
- 1:45Speaker 3: entire time. And they're the only ones that are confused
- 1:47Speaker 3: by it when they're saying, oh, Brian Cashman constructed a
- 1:49Speaker 3: World Series championship caliber team.
- 1:51Speaker 2: No, you didn't.
- 1:52Speaker 1: The players didn't live up to it.
- 1:55Speaker 2: So let's extend the guy that brought in those players.
- 1:58Speaker 2: That's where you're going, Steinbrenner? That's exactly the point. So
- 2:03Speaker 2: he'll sit there. And then it's like, oh, well, what
- 2:06Speaker 2: about Cashman? Yeah, why wouldn't we extend Cash? He's great.
- 2:09Speaker 2: The game, well-respected in the game. He's been here 30-something years.
- 2:12Speaker 2: They win 95 games every year. We get into the postseason.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It just is not our year. Bad luck. No, you're
- 2:18Speaker 2: missing the point. I agree. It's not the manager. It is,
- 2:22Speaker 2: in fact, the players. However, how did you get those players? Like, well,
- 2:27Speaker 2: Giancarlo didn't play. Giancarlo hasn't played since 2018. And even
- 2:31Speaker 2: when he's the only player I've ever seen before that
- 2:34Speaker 2: even when he's healthy, he's not healthy. Like, oh, he's
- 2:36Speaker 2: healthy so he could, like, play the outfield and run
- 2:39Speaker 2: the field. Oh, no, no, no, no. He can't play
- 2:40Speaker 2: the field or run. He can't catch or throw a run,
- 2:43Speaker 2: but I mean healthy enough to swing the bat. Barely, barely.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Who put him on the roster? And why has he
- 2:49Speaker 2: still been on the roster all these years? Relying on
- 2:51Speaker 2: a 35-year-old Aaron Judge with a rib, a calf. It's
- 2:55Speaker 2: the roster construction. Having 15 different DHs, not having a
- 2:58Speaker 2: leadoff hitter. They just don't. Aaron Boone, this is a
- 3:02Speaker 2: true story, legitimate. Last year in the offseason, I was
- 3:06Speaker 2: doing my TV show and saying, the Yankees don't have
- 3:08Speaker 2: a leadoff hitter. Trent Grisham isn't it. Now, he hit
- 3:11Speaker 2: 34 home runs last year, but he failed in the postseason.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I get a call from Boone on the way home. Hey,
- 3:17Speaker 2: what's going on, Skip? How do you say we don't
- 3:20Speaker 2: have a leadoff hitter? Did you watch 34 home runs for–
- 3:23Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, that's great, but, like, he's not a
- 3:26Speaker 2: leadoff hitter. What about the postseason? And this was last January.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Guess how this season ended? With Trent Richum batting leadoff
- 3:34Speaker 2: in the postseason getting swept away. Like, they don't think
- 3:37Speaker 2: they have an issue.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Taylor, put it on the poll. Is it odd if
- 3:42Speaker 1: a baseball manager calls you and you pick up the
- 3:44Speaker 1: phone and call him Skip? Sal. I respect it, Sal.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Sal, this is my problem with this Yankee team. Just
- 3:55Speaker 3: because they're in these positions, the way they talk to
- 3:58Speaker 3: people and the way they talk to the media, they
- 4:01Speaker 3: make it sound like they are so much smarter than
- 4:03Speaker 3: everybody and their way is working. And it's like, okay,
- 4:06Speaker 3: if your way was working as much as you guys
- 4:08Speaker 3: portray it as... We wouldn't have one World Series appearance
- 4:12Speaker 3: in Aaron Judge's tenure as one of the best right-handed
- 4:15Speaker 3: bats ever. And then you have the, in spring training
- 4:18Speaker 3: last year, they say Ben Rice is a catcher. We
- 4:20Speaker 3: didn't see Ben Rice play an inning at catcher.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And guess what?
- 4:24Speaker 3: They're saying Luis Garcia is going to get some run
- 4:26Speaker 3: at second base next year, and he's not ruling out
- 4:28Speaker 3: third base as an option either. We are not going
- 4:30Speaker 3: to see Luis Garcia with position flexibility.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Ben Rice doesn't own a chest protector.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, that was another thing. I was
- 4:39Speaker 2: told last year, I'm like, what are you doing having
- 4:42Speaker 2: Ben Rice catch? He can't catch. Oh, no, what are
- 4:45Speaker 2: you talking about? Calls a great game. I'm like, what?
- 4:48Speaker 2: He's not a catcher. Fast forward to this year, Ben
- 4:51Speaker 2: Rice is not, in fact, a catcher. Like, I don't
- 4:53Speaker 2: understand how we can know more sometimes than the Yankees.
- 4:56Speaker 2: That is an issue. So, yes, when you, and you
- 4:58Speaker 2: bring in Garcia Jr., great bat, but we all said
- 5:00Speaker 2: at the time, well, where's he going to play? Like,
- 5:02Speaker 2: you already have a gluttonous amount of first base slash DH.
- 5:07Speaker 2: So you don't need that. You need somebody who can
- 5:09Speaker 2: hit like that, yes, but play a different position. And
- 5:11Speaker 2: then you're going to try to force him at third base,
- 5:13Speaker 2: learn a new position. No, it's the same old thing
- 5:16Speaker 2: with the Yankees. So I respect that they could say, well,
- 5:19Speaker 2: it's not Boone. It's not the problem.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I agree.
- 5:20Speaker 2: It's not. And the players are the problem. They are. Now,
- 5:23Speaker 2: how are you going to fix the people who put
- 5:25Speaker 2: the players together? That's the real issue.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Taylor, put it on the poll. Does catcher Ben Rice
- 5:30Speaker 1: own a chest protector? No. Or a catcher's mitt.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Like halfway through the season, they were like, he's still
- 5:36Speaker 3: in the meetings with the catchers. And it's like, why
- 5:39Speaker 3: is he in the meeting with the catchers? It's very
- 5:41Speaker 3: clear he's not going to play.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Sal, I was saying.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Because the DH room was too crowded.
- 5:45Speaker 1: All of you, stop! You hung a banner last night
- 5:48Speaker 1: in the Mecca!
- 5:49Speaker 3: We hung a banner in the NBA. That doesn't give
- 5:51Speaker 3: the Yankees this excuse to be this sorry franchise.
- 5:54Speaker 1: No, but there's no way after that evening, there's no
- 5:57Speaker 1: way you can come in the next day and be
- 5:59Speaker 1: this upset about Brian Cashman.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Yes, I can. because it's deja vu every October with
- 6:05Speaker 3: this Yankee team. And Sal, I was making the point
- 6:07Speaker 3: that he was saying, at least you're not the Mets,
- 6:10Speaker 3: and I was like, it's really apples to oranges comparing
- 6:13Speaker 3: the Yankees and the Mets right now. They both have
- 6:14Speaker 3: their issues. I'm wondering, you as a Mets fan, your
- 6:18Speaker 3: emotions watching Freddy Peralta Pitches way to the ALCS MVP.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Sickening. By the way, the Yankees should never compare themselves
- 6:26Speaker 2: to the Mets. What the Mets have done is near
- 6:28Speaker 2: impossible to do. Spend that much money and not sniff
- 6:31Speaker 2: the playoffs. That's the aberration. That's hard to do. So
- 6:34Speaker 2: the Yankees shouldn't be like, well, we make the playoffs
- 6:35Speaker 2: every single year. Some other teams don't. Yeah, that's the Mets.
- 6:39Speaker 2: They don't count. And not on top of that, not
- 6:41Speaker 2: only that, on top of that, you have Freddy Peralta.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Think about this. The team that traded Freddy Peralta... is
- 6:48Speaker 2: in the World Series. The team that ends up with
- 6:51Speaker 2: Freddy Peralta is in the World Series. And where are
- 6:54Speaker 2: the Mets? The Mets traded for Peralta, then they traded
- 6:57Speaker 2: them away, and they're home. And not only is he
- 6:59Speaker 2: good with the Brewers, awful with the Mets. Wins an
- 7:01Speaker 2: ALCS MVP with the Rays. Are you kidding me? That
- 7:05Speaker 2: is more embarrassing than trading away Pete Crowe Armstrong. Infuriating.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Good God.
- 7:11Speaker 1: The M in Mets stands for middleman. I mean, how
- 7:13Speaker 1: about that?
- 7:15Speaker 2: I mean, come on. Yes. At what point, like if
- 7:19Speaker 2: the Mets ever, if anybody needs to ever know that
- 7:21Speaker 2: the Mets are the problem, this is it. Like this
- 7:23Speaker 2: hits you straight over the head. They're the problem. Good
- 7:26Speaker 2: with the Brewers. Bad with the Mets. Great with the Rays.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Brewers-Rays World Series. Mets at home watching their guy that
- 7:32Speaker 2: they traded for pitch them to the world. It's unbelievable.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Sal, do you get worried, though, that David Stearns, the
- 7:39Speaker 3: Mets baseball executive, he's looking at this as almost like
- 7:42Speaker 3: a win because... His guy, Freddy Peralta, is the ALCS MVP,
- 7:47Speaker 3: and his former team that he helped build is the Brewers. Like,
- 7:51Speaker 3: I think Mets fans are embarrassed by David Stearns, but
- 7:54Speaker 3: David Stearns today is looking at it like, my process works.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Well, he's winning everywhere except for the place that he works.
- 8:00Speaker 1: But the Mets, in question, yes.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Wait, if I'm Stearns, I would probably say the same thing. Like, hey, look,
- 8:05Speaker 2: I built up the Brewers. They're good. I traded for Peralta.
- 8:08Speaker 2: He was good with Milwaukee. I traded them away. He's
- 8:10Speaker 2: good with Tampa. Clearly, the guy that I brought in
- 8:12Speaker 2: wasn't the problem. You got the problem. I'm out. See
- 8:16Speaker 2: you later. Maybe that's it. And that would make everybody happy.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Mets fans would love it if he left. But clearly,
- 8:20Speaker 2: the Mets have been the problem in this equation.
- 8:22Speaker 1: We'll get to J.J. McCarthy in a second, starting for
- 8:24Speaker 1: the Giants breaking news here. But before we get to that,
- 8:28Speaker 1: on a day again in which Taylor should just have
- 8:30Speaker 1: a smile on his face and be happy because he
- 8:32Speaker 1: waited for that moment his entire life. The other thing
- 8:35Speaker 1: besides Brian Cashman that upset Taylor was me having the
- 8:39Speaker 1: audacity to say the Philadelphia 76ers look fucking amazing.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Okay. I mean, I think Philadelphia is actually going to
- 8:50Speaker 2: hang a banner for that next week. I mean, good God.
- 8:53Speaker 2: The amount of Sixers fans that are like, oh, yeah,
- 8:56Speaker 2: Knicks are scared. No, no, no. I can assure you
- 8:59Speaker 2: that I slept. As a matter of fact, I did
- 9:00Speaker 2: lose sleep last night. I was going to say I
- 9:02Speaker 2: slept well, but I'm wrong. I did lose sleep last
- 9:04Speaker 2: night because I was scrolling for the championship merch all
- 9:06Speaker 2: night long to purchase. It's endless. The Knicks are champions.
- 9:10Speaker 2: And yes, Stu, you're right. Sixers look good. LeBron looks great.
- 9:12Speaker 2: He's the perfect thing for them to maybe get that team, maybe,
- 9:16Speaker 2: maybe get them past the semifinal round in the Eastern Conference,
- 9:20Speaker 2: finally for a change. But I would not worry about
- 9:22Speaker 2: the Sixers, and I'm just enjoying being a champion.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I didn't say anything about the Knicks being bad. I
- 9:28Speaker 1: just said the Sixers look good.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Sal, that was such an ugly game yesterday.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Right. So you're upset by it. Who cares? It's game one.
- 9:37Speaker 3: No, I'm not upset by it, but Stu came in
- 9:39Speaker 3: and he was ready to crown the 76ers, the Eastern
- 9:42Speaker 3: Conference Finals champions already.
- 9:45Speaker 2: It's amazing. It's amazing what Embiid could look like on
- 9:48Speaker 2: game one versus game 21, maybe.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:51Speaker 2: You know, can the Sixers win a little? Sure. Can
- 9:54Speaker 2: Embiid stay healthy? I mean, that that I don't think
- 9:57Speaker 2: so so without Embiid there then it's LeBron a 40
- 10:00Speaker 2: you know whatever a 42 year old 41 year old
- 10:02Speaker 2: LeBron with Jalen Brown and Tyrese Maxey they're good but
- 10:06Speaker 2: I don't I mean and they might be the biggest
- 10:08Speaker 2: threat um I think the Knicks could still beat them
- 10:10Speaker 2: in the in the post so would you.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Would you be more surprised if this Sixers team is
- 10:15Speaker 3: healthy come the postseason or the Knicks make it back
- 10:17Speaker 3: to the finals.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I would be more surprised if the Sixers were healthy.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Because it's just Embiid, specifically. He's never healthy. Would you
- 10:25Speaker 2: be surprised if John Carlos Stanton were healthy for a
- 10:27Speaker 2: full season? Like... Embiid can't stay healthy. It never happens.
- 10:32Speaker 2: It's the same thing. So the Sixers fans getting sucked
- 10:34Speaker 2: in just like the Yankees. Well, we have Judge and
- 10:37Speaker 2: John Carl. Yeah, the problem is they don't stay healthy. Well,
- 10:39Speaker 2: we have Embiid and Maxie and now LeBron and Brown. Yeah,
- 10:42Speaker 2: but you can't factor in Embiid because he is never,
- 10:46Speaker 2: ever healthy when it matters the most in the postseason.
- 10:48Speaker 2: So that would shock me more than anything else.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I would sit Embiid for the entire regular season. I would, seriously.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Just have him healthy. Yes, guaranteed healthy for the postseason.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yes. 100%, that's what they should be doing. I would
- 11:01Speaker 2: maybe play him sporadic. I'd definitely be watching his minutes.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Why wouldn't you? All you have to do is get in.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Get in and have.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Him fully healthy. That's your best shot. Not trying to
- 11:10Speaker 2: have a higher seed and risk injury with him or
- 11:12Speaker 2: have the wear and tear on him.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Is it true that you said you feel like after
- 11:15Speaker 1: a loss, after last night's loss, the Knicks have a
- 11:18Speaker 1: better shot of repeating? Is that true? You said that
- 11:21Speaker 1: after a loss, yes?
- 11:22Speaker 2: It is. It is, and I'll explain it because... Okay,
- 11:25Speaker 2: first of all, you guys know I'm a moron.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I don't know how you feel like that after a loss.
- 11:28Speaker 1: But anyway, go ahead.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Yes. A lot of my thought process is, ah, law
- 11:33Speaker 2: of averages. Like, it's so hard to win one. And
- 11:36Speaker 2: I didn't expect that to ever happen. Do you really
- 11:38Speaker 2: think they're going to win two? And then I watched
- 11:40Speaker 2: the game, and I was like, oh, yeah. They're really,
- 11:43Speaker 2: really freaking good. So even if you say the Sixers
- 11:46Speaker 2: are better than the Knicks or the two teams in
- 11:49Speaker 2: the West, the Thunder or the Spurs, we all felt
- 11:51Speaker 2: that last year, right? A lot of people felt the
- 11:52Speaker 2: Spurs and Thunder were better than them last year. How'd
- 11:54Speaker 2: that work out? And even if it's a six, it's like,
- 11:56Speaker 2: at worst, the Knicks are still the fourth best team
- 11:59Speaker 2: right now in the NBA, which gives you a very,
- 12:02Speaker 2: very realistic chance to win. Plus, they have a group
- 12:05Speaker 2: of competitors. So, yeah, watching it reminded me just how
- 12:08Speaker 2: good they are and that it is very realistic, even
- 12:11Speaker 2: though it's unlikely, very realistic that they could repeat.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I like that spin because that was their C game
- 12:16Speaker 1: last night. They were not playing well. They looked out
- 12:18Speaker 1: of shape. They weren't terribly focused. Mikael Bridges looked like
- 12:21Speaker 1: he spent the entire offseason drinking. And so, yeah, so
- 12:26Speaker 1: I like that take, actually. Their C game, and they
- 12:29Speaker 1: were still in it at the end against the Sixers,
- 12:31Speaker 1: who were playing like a B-plus game. I like that, yes.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Who wanted to prove themselves, LeBron's first day, the Mecca,
- 12:38Speaker 2: banner night, all that stuff. So, yeah, I mean, it's
- 12:40Speaker 2: just such a long season. I hate to not react
- 12:43Speaker 2: to these things, especially in the NBA. Like, you'd love
- 12:45Speaker 2: to be able to end the champion Knicks, but in reality,
- 12:48Speaker 2: it meant nothing for the Knicks, sadly. You could hang
- 12:50Speaker 2: the banner, but the regular season results don't mean anything
- 12:53Speaker 2: until they get back to the playoffs.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Are you surprised the Giants have gone to J.J. McCarthy
- 13:07Speaker 1: this quickly?
- 13:09Speaker 2: It's a great question. Here's why I'm not surprised. J.J.
- 13:13Speaker 2: McCarthy definitively gives them the best chance to win. The
- 13:18Speaker 2: only hesitation I had was, will Harbaugh just wait? Even
- 13:21Speaker 2: though he knows that, will he just wait? You know,
- 13:24Speaker 2: the Texans defense supposed to be really good. They now
- 13:26Speaker 2: have new life after beating the Jags and get themselves
- 13:29Speaker 2: a 2-4 after the 0-4 start. It's a tough spot.
- 13:32Speaker 2: and then the bye week following. So just the timing
- 13:34Speaker 2: of it, it's not about, wow, I'm surprised that they
- 13:36Speaker 2: made that move. It's if there were ever a time
- 13:39Speaker 2: to wait, it would have been against the Texans defense
- 13:41Speaker 2: with the bye week looming to just wait an extra
- 13:44Speaker 2: two weeks. But no, he definitively, J.J. McCarthy gives them
- 13:48Speaker 2: the best chance to win football games. And that's why
- 13:51Speaker 2: Harbaugh made that decision now.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Sal, wouldn't you agree that the way this Giants offense
- 13:55Speaker 3: was constructed this offseason, it was designed to take advantage
- 13:59Speaker 3: of somebody like Jackson Dart's mobility and You weren't getting
- 14:02Speaker 3: that with Jameis Winston, and at the very least, you
- 14:04Speaker 3: could try to replicate some of that game plan that
- 14:07Speaker 3: you had from before the season with somebody like J.J.
- 14:10Speaker 2: McCarthy. Yeah, it's why I love the trade. I'm not
- 14:14Speaker 2: a huge college football fan. I watch more now than
- 14:16Speaker 2: I have before, but I wasn't watching J.J. McCarthy at
- 14:18Speaker 2: times when he was at Michigan. And I didn't watch
- 14:20Speaker 2: him a ton. I saw some stuff with the preseason
- 14:22Speaker 2: with the Vikings, you know, before he got hurt. But
- 14:24Speaker 2: people were ripping McCarthy. For some reason, it feels like
- 14:28Speaker 2: they love to hate him. I love the trade when
- 14:31Speaker 2: they made it because of that. The ceiling with McCarthy.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I mean, you're talking about a former topic. I'm not
- 14:35Speaker 2: there's no guarantees is going to be a stud. But
- 14:37Speaker 2: the ceiling with him is far greater than it was
- 14:40Speaker 2: with Jameis Winston. You're talking about you saw the way
- 14:42Speaker 2: that he threw the football in relief. throwing bombs down
- 14:44Speaker 2: the field against New Orleans, trying to bring the Giants back.
- 14:46Speaker 2: And then, yes, with his legs, that's just something Jameis
- 14:50Speaker 2: doesn't do. So being that he's a dual threat and
- 14:53Speaker 2: that athleticism alone can be a different weapon in the
- 14:57Speaker 2: offense to deploy that they just don't have with Jameis. Yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 2: and like you said, maybe some similarities there in the playbook.
- 15:03Speaker 2: He's like a poor man's Jackson Dart for now, J.J. McCarthy,
- 15:05Speaker 2: and that's a good thing. When you lose your starting
- 15:07Speaker 2: quarterback for a full season, that's a good thing to
- 15:10Speaker 2: be able to have that. Sal, where are you at
- 15:11Speaker 2: with Aaron Glenn?
- 15:12Speaker 3: Because it felt like he had a big opportunity this
- 15:15Speaker 3: past weekend against the Patriots, and it was kind of
- 15:18Speaker 3: just the same story that you've come to expect when
- 15:21Speaker 3: the Jets make that trip to Foxborough, and then you
- 15:24Speaker 3: add on top of it the ball after halftime. where
- 15:27Speaker 3: it seemed like Aaron Glenn was pretty confused why the
- 15:30Speaker 3: Jets didn't start the second half.
- 15:31Speaker 1: He's just confused.
- 15:35Speaker 2: I wouldn't make too much of that quote. He tried
- 15:36Speaker 2: to clear it up afterwards. Forget the quote. The results
- 15:41Speaker 2: are god-awful. You guys saw the numbers. They've allowed 100 points.
- 15:45Speaker 2: They're losing 100 to 6 in between the end of
- 15:47Speaker 2: the first half and the start of the second, whatever
- 15:48Speaker 2: it is exactly. To me, Aaron Glenn lost me week
- 15:51Speaker 2: two against the Packers at home. They were up 10
- 15:53Speaker 2: points in the fourth quarter. It's a game you've got
- 15:55Speaker 2: to be able to win. He just didn't manage the
- 15:57Speaker 2: game properly. He uses his timeouts like it's 1990 still. Like, oh,
- 16:02Speaker 2: there's three minutes to go. Let's call some timeouts. Dude,
- 16:04Speaker 2: three minutes to go is like 30 minutes. Save the
- 16:07Speaker 2: timeouts until under two minutes. To me, Aaron Glenn, while
- 16:11Speaker 2: he seems like a very nice man and a good
- 16:14Speaker 2: leader of men in certain aspects, a former player, I
- 16:18Speaker 2: think he's clearly a coordinator. He is completely overmatched. as
- 16:22Speaker 2: a head coach I felt that way last year it
- 16:24Speaker 2: cemented my belief week two against the Packers it hasn't
- 16:27Speaker 2: changed in anything that I've seen even with the recent
- 16:29Speaker 2: yeah they're competitive sure they're better than they were last
- 16:31Speaker 2: year they're competitive he does not know what he is
- 16:33Speaker 2: doing as a head coach.
- 16:35Speaker 4: It's clear that Aaron Glenn is a great leader of men.
- 16:38Speaker 4: He just has no idea where he's leading them to.
- 16:40Speaker 4: He's just leading them around in circles.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Or which men he's leading.
- 16:44Speaker 4: And I would say that game was like the nail
- 16:47Speaker 4: in the coffin, but I'm pretty sure Aaron Glenn's coffin
- 16:50Speaker 4: is just nails at this point. It's been hammered so
- 16:54Speaker 4: many times.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It's just done. How many more nails do you need
- 16:56Speaker 2: to see? It's a great question because, shockingly, I know
- 16:59Speaker 2: sometimes I say things that will piss people off, But
- 17:02Speaker 2: saying Aaron Glenn is not a good head coach was
- 17:04Speaker 2: not one thing that I thought would upset people. And
- 17:06Speaker 2: it did. Somehow, Jet fans are like, oh, you give
- 17:08Speaker 2: him some time.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Oh, he's young.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Oh, you hate the Jets. Like, no. Give me a
- 17:14Speaker 2: tangible reason to believe that he's good. And if you
- 17:16Speaker 2: can't come up with one now, which you can't because
- 17:18Speaker 2: it's a trick question. There isn't one. What do you
- 17:20Speaker 2: need to see? Like, what do you need to see
- 17:23Speaker 2: to believe that he might be? Even like a little
- 17:26Speaker 2: semblance of he might be. And then even then, why
- 17:28Speaker 2: would it be okay? This is year two. Like- Give
- 17:31Speaker 2: me the tangible reason to think that Aaron Glenn could
- 17:33Speaker 2: be a even competent head coach at the NFL level.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Taylor, put it on the poll. Is it unfair to
- 17:38Speaker 1: ask a question where there is no answer?
- 17:44Speaker 2: Trick question.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I mean, what are you doing? If there's no answer,
- 17:47Speaker 1: then why are you asking people?
- 17:50Speaker 2: My cousin Vinny. Trick question. Trick question. There is no answer.
- 17:56Speaker 2: He can't.
- 17:57Speaker 1: There's no tangible reason.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Well, because of the Jets. That's not a reason to
- 18:00Speaker 2: say that he's good. I understand.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Just quickly on the way out here, at what point
- 18:05Speaker 1: can a Knicks fan start booing or being upset with
- 18:07Speaker 1: the Knicks? Is there a point in the season? Could
- 18:10Speaker 1: the Knicks arrive at any point in this season, 2-8,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I don't know, 5-15 to start the season, where Knicks
- 18:17Speaker 1: fans have the right to get upset at their team?
- 18:21Speaker 2: I personally, unless it's a lack of effort and you
- 18:24Speaker 2: clearly see that they're just not playing hard, lack of effort,
- 18:27Speaker 2: they got a pass from me. I don't care if
- 18:30Speaker 2: they're getting blown out, losing these games, the record, they
- 18:33Speaker 2: won a championship. I'm sorry, you wait 53 years for something?
- 18:36Speaker 2: I'm not going to move on from it after just
- 18:37Speaker 2: four months. It doesn't feel right to celebrate just four
- 18:41Speaker 2: months of winning. So they have the full pass from me.
- 18:43Speaker 2: But if it were a lack of effort, clear lack
- 18:45Speaker 2: of effort, then I could understand maybe some booing. Outside
- 18:47Speaker 2: of that, no way. All right.
- 18:48Speaker 1: That's fair. Spike Lee, he looked ridiculous last night, right?
- 18:51Speaker 1: I mean.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Why is that different from any other Spike Lee?
- 18:58Speaker 1: You're right. Sal, we appreciate it. The Sal Licata Show,
- 19:02Speaker 1: anywhere you get your podcast. We love having a mom.
- 19:05Speaker 1: We appreciate you doing it, man. We'll talk to you soon.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Thank you, guys.
- 19:08Speaker 3: All right.
