  SPEAKER_00: but there is something happening in the astrology right now that I wanted to talk

  SPEAKER_00: especially because it's setting us up for a much bigger story that we'll be talking

  SPEAKER_00: Venus is currently moving through Scorpio,

  SPEAKER_00: and we're also now in the pre-shadow period for the upcoming Venus retrograde.

  SPEAKER_00: but it will be closer to the retrograde itself,

  SPEAKER_00: I thought it might be useful first in preparation to talk about Venus

  SPEAKER_00: in Scorpio itself.

  SPEAKER_00: What is Venus like in this sign?

  SPEAKER_00: What kinds of themes can come up?

  SPEAKER_00: Because understanding this is going to be really important for understanding

  SPEAKER_00: and making sense of the Venus retrograde energy that is building.

  SPEAKER_00: And then I want to talk briefly about one particular aspect happening right now.

  SPEAKER_00: And well, longer really, because Venus will be in Scorpio for a while.

  SPEAKER_00: First, What's Venus?
• 3:44
  SPEAKER_00: Like, do we need a little refresher on Venus here?
• 3:46
  SPEAKER_00: Because we're going to hear a lot about Venus over the next several weeks.
• 3:50
  SPEAKER_00: Venus is probably most famous as the planet of love and relationships.
• 3:56
  SPEAKER_00: And of course, this is a big part of this retrograde cycle.

  SPEAKER_00: There is absolutely going to be no way of getting around that, I don't think.

  SPEAKER_00: But Venus describes more than romantic relationships.
• 4:11
  SPEAKER_00: Of course it does.
• 4:12
  SPEAKER_00: Venus has to do with attraction generally,
• 4:16
  SPEAKER_00: desire generally,
• 4:18
  SPEAKER_00: in all parts of life,
• 4:19
  SPEAKER_00: what we're drawn toward,
• 4:21
  SPEAKER_00: what we enjoy, what gives us pleasure or joy, what we find beautiful or valuable.

  SPEAKER_00: It can describe the way we relate to other people in our lives and what we seek
• 4:36
  SPEAKER_00: within our relationships.

  SPEAKER_00: It also has associations with money and resources,
• 4:42
  SPEAKER_00: particularly the things we place a lot of value on and what we're willing to put
• 4:48
  SPEAKER_00: towards them.
• 4:49
  SPEAKER_00: Like, what are they really worth to us?
• 4:52
  SPEAKER_00: What are we willing to pay or exchange or spend for them?
• 4:56
  SPEAKER_00: You know, spend monetarily or otherwise.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus has associations with our values and our value systems, what's important to us.
• 5:08
  SPEAKER_00: And then there's another Venus theme that I think becomes particularly important,
• 5:14
  SPEAKER_00: especially when we're talking about the sign of Scorpio, and that is self-worth.

  SPEAKER_00: What do I believe I deserve?
• 5:22
  SPEAKER_00: What am I willing to accept?
• 5:24
  SPEAKER_00: What am I attracted to and why?
• 5:28
  SPEAKER_00: Why am I drawn to that thing or that person?

  SPEAKER_00: Even like, why am I drawn to that pattern again and again?
• 5:36
  SPEAKER_00: What do I value enough to invest myself in?
• 5:40
  SPEAKER_00: Those are all really Venusian types of questions.
• 5:45
  SPEAKER_00: So what happens when Venus moves into Scorpio?
• 5:49
  SPEAKER_00: Well, Scorpio isn't really that interested or at all interested in keeping things on
• 5:56
  SPEAKER_00: the surface, right?
• 5:57
  SPEAKER_00: This is a sign associated with intimacy,
• 6:00
  SPEAKER_00: vulnerability, trust, power, mergers and merging, right?
• 6:06
  SPEAKER_00: Shared resources, psychological depth.
• 6:10
  SPEAKER_00: And often it's associated with whatever is happening underneath the thing
• 6:14
  SPEAKER_00: that we can easily see, right?
• 6:16
  SPEAKER_00: There's the thing that's obvious or visible, and then there's the thing underneath the thing.

  SPEAKER_00: So when Venus moves through Scorpio, relationships can become a little more emotionally complex.

  SPEAKER_00: We may be less interested in superficial connections and more interested
• 6:37
  SPEAKER_00: in what's real and deep.

  SPEAKER_00: Can I trust you or not?
• 6:43
  SPEAKER_00: What happens when I really let somebody get to know me,

  SPEAKER_00: know the real vulnerable me, the me without a mask on?

  SPEAKER_00: What am I giving to this relationship?
• 6:54
  SPEAKER_00: What energy am I putting towards it?
• 6:56
  SPEAKER_00: And what am I getting back?
• 6:58
  SPEAKER_00: Is there reciprocity?

  SPEAKER_00: Where do I feel secure?
• 7:02
  SPEAKER_00: And where do I not feel secure enough?
• 7:05
  SPEAKER_00: And because Scorpio,
• 7:06
  SPEAKER_00: you know,
• 7:07
  SPEAKER_00: deals with things like power and resources that we share with other people,
• 7:11
  SPEAKER_00: Venus here can bring attention to the exchanges of all kinds that are happening
• 7:17
  SPEAKER_00: within our relationships.
• 7:19
  SPEAKER_00: Not just money, although sometimes it is literally money, but emotional exchanges too.

  SPEAKER_00: Again, who gives more?
• 7:28
  SPEAKER_00: Is it equal?
• 7:29
  SPEAKER_00: Are there imbalances?
• 7:31
  SPEAKER_00: You know, who has more power?
• 7:33
  SPEAKER_00: Where are we too dependent or not dependent enough on one another?
• 7:38
  SPEAKER_00: Where are we holding something back from each other?
• 7:42
  SPEAKER_00: Where might fear of loss be influencing our feelings, our actions, or our relationship dynamics?

  SPEAKER_00: And these can be really uncomfortable questions.
• 7:55
  SPEAKER_00: But they're also questions that can create a lot more intimacy,
• 7:59
  SPEAKER_00: much truer intimacy, When we're willing to look at them and find the answers.

  SPEAKER_00: Now, of course, we know that Scorpio gets stereotyped constantly.
• 8:13
  SPEAKER_00: Sorry, Scorpio.
• 8:14
  SPEAKER_00: As jealous, possessive, obsessive, maybe secretive.
• 8:20
  SPEAKER_00: And those can certainly be expressions of Scorpio energy.
• 8:25
  SPEAKER_00: It can.
• 8:26
  SPEAKER_00: But Scorpio's mission is not, you know, just to create drama.
• 8:31
  SPEAKER_00: Scorpio's mission is to find the truth.
• 8:33
  SPEAKER_00: It wants to understand what's underneath the surface.
• 8:36
  SPEAKER_00: And sometimes that means being willing to go
• 8:39
  SPEAKER_00: into emotional territory we'd rather not go into at all,
• 8:44
  SPEAKER_00: or at least most of the time.
• 8:46
  SPEAKER_00: So Venus and Scorpio can potentially deepen our relationships,
• 8:51
  SPEAKER_00: but it can also expose the places where intimacy,
• 8:56
  SPEAKER_00: trust, reciprocity, or power dynamics aren't functioning particularly well.

  SPEAKER_00: And right now, things are getting pretty interesting.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus has just recently opposed Chiron.
• 9:13
  SPEAKER_00: Which means some deeper wounds for each of us may have gotten activated, rubbed up against.

  SPEAKER_00: And now Venus is moving into a square with Pluto.

  SPEAKER_00: This is the planet of the underworld, right?
• 9:26
  SPEAKER_00: This is the modern ruler of Scorpio.
• 9:30
  SPEAKER_00: The traditional ruler, though, just FYI, is Mars.
• 9:33
  SPEAKER_00: But, you know,
• 9:34
  SPEAKER_00: and Venus is doing all of this after entering the shadow of its upcoming retrograde.

  SPEAKER_00: If you listened to my recent Q&A episode,

  SPEAKER_00: you heard me talk about the shadow period as the beginning of

  SPEAKER_00: the larger retrograde cycle.

  SPEAKER_00: We're already moving through degrees of the zodiac that Venus will return to during
• 9:57
  SPEAKER_00: the retrograde.

  SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't necessarily assume that everything happening right now is going to become

  SPEAKER_00: the singular story of your Venus retrograde, but I would pay attention, certainly.

  SPEAKER_00: What is it that is getting your attention around relationships right now?

  SPEAKER_00: What is getting your attention around money,
• 10:23
  SPEAKER_00: values, self-worth, trust, intimacy, or reciprocity right now?

  SPEAKER_00: Because Venus may come back later and have us look at some of this stuff again.

  SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about the Venus-Pluto square for a minute.

  SPEAKER_00: Some of you may even have this aspect in your natal chart,
• 10:45
  SPEAKER_00: perhaps, or maybe you know someone who does.
• 10:48
  SPEAKER_00: Whenever Venus and Pluto come together, we're combining two very different planetary principles.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus wants connection, harmony, pleasure, value.

  SPEAKER_00: Pluto tends to intensify whatever it touches.

  SPEAKER_00: Pluto is associated with power,
• 11:10
  SPEAKER_00: compulsion,
• 11:11
  SPEAKER_00: psychological depth,
• 11:13
  SPEAKER_00: transformation,
• 11:14
  SPEAKER_00: and again,
• 11:15
  SPEAKER_00: all the things we sometimes keep buried because they're uncomfortable to confront.

  SPEAKER_00: When you put those together,
• 11:25
  SPEAKER_00: relationships can become the place or the stage
• 11:29
  SPEAKER_00: where some deeper stuff gets activated.

  SPEAKER_00: Sometimes that can feel like tremendous attraction or intensity of feeling and emotion.

  SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it can bring up fear of losing someone or something that we value.

  SPEAKER_00: Sometimes issues involving jealousy,
• 11:50
  SPEAKER_00: control, possessiveness, vulnerability, or unequal power become harder to ignore.

  SPEAKER_00: Who is it that holds all the cards in a relationship?

  SPEAKER_00: Sometimes that comes up for people.
• 12:05
  SPEAKER_00: But sometimes it's not about another person at all.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus Pluto can also have us kind of digging at some real issues
• 12:13
  SPEAKER_00: or challenges around value and self-worth.

  SPEAKER_00: Why do I want what I want?

  SPEAKER_00: Why am I so attached to this?

  SPEAKER_00: What am I afraid will happen?

  SPEAKER_00: So it can be a lot more than just relationship drama.

  SPEAKER_00: It can bring all the Venusian things to the surface.

  SPEAKER_00: And because this particular Venus-Pluto square is happening while Venus is already
• 12:52
  SPEAKER_00: in its retrograde shadow, I think it's worth noticing what surfaces now.

  SPEAKER_00: You know, we don't want to panic about it or anything.

  SPEAKER_00: We don't want to read too much into one argument or one conversation or disagreement

  SPEAKER_00: or anything.

  SPEAKER_00: We don't want to assume we can solve everything now either.

  SPEAKER_00: That comes later.

  SPEAKER_00: We're not trying to predict or solve our entire Venus retrograde based

  SPEAKER_00: on what happens this week.

  SPEAKER_00: We're noticing.

  SPEAKER_00: Notice your conversations.

  SPEAKER_00: Notice what's rubbing you the wrong way.

  SPEAKER_00: Notice what relationship stuff doesn't feel all that good.

  SPEAKER_00: Notice if there's fear or worry about something.

  SPEAKER_00: Or maybe nothing particularly dramatic happens at all for you right now.

  SPEAKER_00: Lucky you, in fact.

  SPEAKER_00: And if you have Venus-Pluto in your natal chart,

  SPEAKER_00: for those of you who have a Venus-Pluto conjunction or square or opposition natally,

  SPEAKER_00: some of these themes may sound a little familiar.

  SPEAKER_00: You may experience relationships and attraction with a certain amount of intensity already.

  SPEAKER_00: This is also true if you natally have Venus in Scorpio.

  SPEAKER_00: Relationships can potentially become very important vehicles for you

  SPEAKER_00: for your own personal and emotional growth and your transformation already.

  SPEAKER_00: There can sometimes be lifelong lessons around attachment or power or vulnerability

  SPEAKER_00: or control or intensity.

  SPEAKER_00: You know, is that intensity real intimacy or is it just intensity?

  SPEAKER_00: by the way,

  SPEAKER_00: to reduce a natal Venus-Pluto aspect to,

  SPEAKER_00: you have toxic relationships or you're obsessive in romance and these kinds

  SPEAKER_00: Okay, you may hear these things, but let's not get caught up in that.

  SPEAKER_00: As always, we have to look at all kinds of things.
• 14:55
  SPEAKER_00: And different people often live the same aspects in very different ways.

  SPEAKER_00: I think Venus and Pluto together can have an enormous capacity for emotional honesty

  SPEAKER_00: and depth.

  SPEAKER_00: There can be a willingness to go beneath the surface of a relationship rather

  SPEAKER_00: than settling for something superficial.
• 15:19
  SPEAKER_00: But that depth requires us to be willing to look at our own motivations too.

  SPEAKER_00: We just can't be always looking at the other person's motivations.

  SPEAKER_00: And we have to get to know ourselves as intimately as we desire knowing the other person.

  SPEAKER_00: Because often,

  SPEAKER_00: with these kinds of placements,

  SPEAKER_00: the person or the people in your life are there to mirror your own growth path back

  SPEAKER_00: So I think this is what I'd leave you with.

  SPEAKER_00: We're at the beginning of a longer Venus story arc.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus is in Scorpio.

  SPEAKER_00: We're inside the retrograde shadow now.

  SPEAKER_00: We've recently had the Chiron opposition, and now we have the square Pluto.

  SPEAKER_00: Here are the questions I think you can start thinking about as we go

  SPEAKER_00: through this pre-shadow period until October 3rd.

  SPEAKER_00: What are you learning about what you value?

  SPEAKER_00: What's coming up right now in your relationships?

  SPEAKER_00: Is the thing that's coming up the thing that's right on the surface?

  SPEAKER_00: Or is there a thing underneath the thing on the surface?

  SPEAKER_00: Are questions of trust, intimacy, vulnerability, power, or reciprocity coming up right now?

  SPEAKER_00: What are you discovering about your own attachments?

  SPEAKER_00: And maybe this is a big one too.

  SPEAKER_00: Is there anything in your life that is becoming harder to ignore right now?

  SPEAKER_00: You don't have to answer the ball.

  SPEAKER_00: Venus is going to come back through this territory later on in reverse,

  SPEAKER_00: and we'll have plenty more time to consider what we're getting as this happens.
