- 2:25Speaker 7: Good morning.
- 2:25Speaker 6: I may have you put that microphone in front of
- 2:27Speaker 6: you there if you don't care, there you go, prop
- 2:29Speaker 6: it up a little bit. There we go, all right,
- 2:31Speaker 6: there we good morning. Thank you for being here, Thank
- 2:33Speaker 6: you for being here. It goes a little bit of
- 2:35Speaker 6: background on spoblist. It's very successful business, not only here
- 2:40Speaker 6: in Charleston Smith Street, but also in Beckley. Give us
- 2:44Speaker 6: the overall view of spoblists.
- 2:46Speaker 7: Sure, I'm from Beckley. I started it there, was in
- 2:49Speaker 7: business for about five years and moved to Charleston. Started
- 2:53Speaker 7: all over with just myself as a staff member, my
- 2:57Speaker 7: daughter and one massage therapist, and have moved several times.
- 3:02Speaker 7: Bought a great warehouse down town and we now have
- 3:07Speaker 7: around sixty staff members.
- 3:09Speaker 6: Wow, I realized you had that many people aboard there. Wow,
- 3:12Speaker 6: that's that's great. Talk about the different we'll break it
- 3:15Speaker 6: down specifically because I want to learn about this, but
- 3:18Speaker 6: we'll talk about specific some of the other stories. Overall
- 3:21Speaker 6: the services that you offer.
- 3:22Speaker 7: There, we absolutely offer everything. It is a full day spot,
- 3:27Speaker 7: so we massage, facials, pedicures, manicures, lash lashes, hair removal.
- 3:36Speaker 7: We have that Lotus room that's infrared saunas and steam rooms.
- 3:41Speaker 7: We just added a brand new medspa on the third floor,
- 3:45Speaker 7: so the spa goes from the first floor all the
- 3:48Speaker 7: way up to the sixth floor.
- 3:49Speaker 6: But for regular complex there isn't it.
- 3:52Speaker 7: It really is. It's a true experience to come in.
- 3:55Speaker 7: Everybody is friendly. It's not the kind of place that
- 3:59Speaker 7: you walk in and you feel like it's some kind
- 4:02Speaker 7: of stuffy a spa that you know. It's just we
- 4:05Speaker 7: make everybody feel great. They're there, they're relaxing. It's just
- 4:10Speaker 7: overall we try to make a very nice experience.
- 4:13Speaker 6: And this is a learning experience for me because I
- 4:15Speaker 6: know very little about this, but I'm learning with the
- 4:17Speaker 6: listeners right now. When you said the eyelash thing, this
- 4:21Speaker 6: is huge right now, it is huge. Talk about that
- 4:24Speaker 6: it is.
- 4:24Speaker 7: We've been doing lash extensions for fifteen years, so we
- 4:28Speaker 7: were pretty much about the first people in Charleston to
- 4:31Speaker 7: offer them. It's amazing because you feel like you're waking
- 4:35Speaker 7: up with makeup. You don't have to do anything. If
- 4:38Speaker 7: you have lashes, you don't You just really don't even
- 4:41Speaker 7: need anything.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Else, you know. I think a lot of times when
- 4:44Speaker 6: people think about spa services, they think, as you said,
- 4:46Speaker 6: it's very stuffy, it's very very very vain, and so
- 4:51Speaker 6: on and so forth. But you see all types of
- 4:53Speaker 6: people with just a couple of things done, with a
- 4:56Speaker 6: lot of things done. And you see men we did
- 4:58Speaker 6: talk about your mail client to.
- 5:00Speaker 7: Our male client, tell is huge. We you know they
- 5:03Speaker 7: of course we have the hair salon, but also we
- 5:06Speaker 7: probably have just as many men that get massages as women.
- 5:10Speaker 7: We try to get them to do facials and pedicures
- 5:13Speaker 7: as well, but you know, well and they do some.
- 5:16Speaker 7: But yeah, it's it's I have twelve massage therapists, male
- 5:20Speaker 7: and female massage therapists, so yeah, we have something for everyone.
- 5:23Speaker 6: Really, if someone is interested in maybe learning more about this,
- 5:27Speaker 6: do you offer like if somebody just wants to come in,
- 5:29Speaker 6: I don't know, consultations the right word. But if you
- 5:32Speaker 6: just want to come in and say, well what do
- 5:34Speaker 6: you offer and what what can I get? You kind
- 5:37Speaker 6: of take us through that. Absolutely.
- 5:39Speaker 7: The front desk is very informed on everything we do.
- 5:42Speaker 7: They're happy to show everybody around, give them a little
- 5:44Speaker 7: toward the SPA, our new MEDSPA. We actually do free
- 5:48Speaker 7: consultations and that's more, you know, services that go along
- 5:52Speaker 7: with skin resurfaces.
- 5:54Speaker 6: A series medspas.
- 5:56Speaker 7: Yeah, we're real excited about it. I mean it literally
- 5:58Speaker 7: just opened. We have all the news technologies for the
- 6:02Speaker 7: MEDSPA and yeah, it is a free consultation and there
- 6:06Speaker 7: is usually something there for everyone. Painless services all the
- 6:10Speaker 7: way up to skin resurfacing and making you look ten
- 6:13Speaker 7: years younger.
- 6:14Speaker 6: So well, I need that. I definitely need that.
- 6:17Speaker 8: We all did.
- 6:18Speaker 6: Talking to Kathy Rubio Spoblst. The Dave Alan Showing five
- 6:21Speaker 6: eighty Live is brought to you apart by your hometown
- 6:23Speaker 6: baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds, the Selango Law Light
- 6:26Speaker 6: the Night continuing over at Gomar Ballpark through January the first,
- 6:28Speaker 6: every night except for Christmas Night. Get your tickets in
- 6:31Speaker 6: advance by visiting Dblightthenight dot com I want to talk
- 6:34Speaker 6: just a tad about the business and about and about
- 6:37Speaker 6: you because you're somebody you're on I think Charleston City Council.
- 6:40Speaker 6: Your business though, is involved with Charleston Urban Works and Kurra.
- 6:44Speaker 6: I love it when a business is not just a business,
- 6:47Speaker 6: but it's involved in the community. Talk about that.
- 6:49Speaker 7: Yeah, I decided to run for city council just because
- 6:54Speaker 7: of the you know, downtown. I feel like it could
- 6:57Speaker 7: everything could be better in the Warehouse district in particular,
- 7:01Speaker 7: and thought I would really like to get more involved
- 7:03Speaker 7: with the community. So I did that and it's working
- 7:08Speaker 7: on great. I've loved my experience there.
- 7:11Speaker 6: Yeah, well in getting and my point is is, you
- 7:14Speaker 6: know I've talked about the Charleston Nervoorgers and these other
- 7:17Speaker 6: organizations that you believe in getting involved in in the
- 7:20Speaker 6: community and giving back to the community.
- 7:22Speaker 7: Right, Yes, exactly. It's been a great experience and cure
- 7:26Speaker 7: is actually you know, they actually help I'm sure people
- 7:30Speaker 7: know they take old buildings and try to help business
- 7:34Speaker 7: people start a new business and things like that. So
- 7:37Speaker 7: it was just exciting for me to think that I
- 7:40Speaker 7: could help be involved.
- 7:41Speaker 6: Well, when I have we had these buildings in Charleston,
- 7:45Speaker 6: some of these older buildings, and they've got so much character, Kathy,
- 7:48Speaker 6: I mean, so much architecture. They don't build them like
- 7:51Speaker 6: that anymore. With all due respect to we have some
- 7:53Speaker 6: great architectural companies here in the valley and we I've
- 7:56Speaker 6: had many of them on the show. They do, but
- 7:57Speaker 6: they'll even tell you we just we just don't build
- 8:00Speaker 6: things like that anymore because you just can't find the
- 8:02Speaker 6: stuff like they did back in the day.
- 8:04Speaker 7: No, that's our place. It's a warehouse and I love
- 8:07Speaker 7: our building. It's over one hundred years old.
- 8:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 8:09Speaker 7: The floors are solid concrete that are fourteen inches thick,
- 8:12Speaker 7: and it's all brick and concrete and definitely, yeah, it
- 8:16Speaker 7: was made with love back in the day. They definitely do.
- 8:19Speaker 6: You know the history of the building, Okay, we're gonna
- 8:21Speaker 6: give us a little bit that I do.
- 8:22Speaker 7: It was originally the produce warehouse. The train tracks are
- 8:27Speaker 7: directly behind it, and there it was a loading dock
- 8:30Speaker 7: all along the back of the building and all of
- 8:33Speaker 7: the produce for Charleston came into that.
- 8:35Speaker 8: Warehouse location one location.
- 8:38Speaker 7: Yeah, the old scale that they weighed the produce is
- 8:40Speaker 7: still in the building. It's originally standing there.
- 8:43Speaker 8: It's a beautiful Yeah, that is awesome.
- 8:45Speaker 6: Now we all know this I said earlier, Kathy, people
- 8:49Speaker 6: of all backgrounds use spas. But I will say this
- 8:52Speaker 6: to the guys out there if you're looking for a
- 8:53Speaker 6: great gift, and to the gals, because we know the
- 8:56Speaker 6: guys use the spot too. If you're looking for something,
- 8:58Speaker 6: no matter your sex of or for your significant other,
- 9:02Speaker 6: it's Pobless would be a great place to go for Christmas.
- 9:04Speaker 7: It really is. It's more than just buying somebody an object.
- 9:09Speaker 7: It's actually buying them an experience. It's something that people
- 9:13Speaker 7: don't spend the money on.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Themselves a lot of times.
- 9:15Speaker 7: And we can make a great little gift package where
- 9:18Speaker 7: you know, we could throw a candle in there, or
- 9:20Speaker 7: jewelry or skincare along with a gift card and it
- 9:24Speaker 7: is absolutely I think.
- 9:25Speaker 8: The perfect gift.
- 9:27Speaker 6: I mean again, you can just basically just walk in
- 9:30Speaker 6: and just say, okay, here's what my person I'm buying
- 9:33Speaker 6: for likes could be a parent, could be a cowork
- 9:36Speaker 6: or whatever. This is what they like. You take it
- 9:38Speaker 6: from here and you can do that.
- 9:39Speaker 7: That's exactly right. We see people come in and they
- 9:43Speaker 7: just look totally confused, and it's usually mess.
- 9:46Speaker 6: I'm gonna say, I'm not gonna type cast. I'm not
- 9:49Speaker 6: going to stereotype, but let's face it, they probably are
- 9:52Speaker 6: big stinky men.
- 9:54Speaker 7: They are big stinky men. Sometimes they smell good, but
- 9:58Speaker 7: you know, they definitely look have a look of a
- 10:01Speaker 7: dumbfounded you know, like I don't know what and we
- 10:05Speaker 7: scream help, nope, and we certainly do. We tell them
- 10:09Speaker 7: everything we have. We have awesome packages that are discounted,
- 10:13Speaker 7: and usually we head them in that direction because the
- 10:16Speaker 7: gift card you could buy for a package which would
- 10:18Speaker 7: be like a massage, a facial, a pedicure, all of
- 10:21Speaker 7: our relaxing services. But if they don't want to use
- 10:24Speaker 7: it for that, they could use it for anything they
- 10:26Speaker 7: want because it is a dollar amount, so you can't
- 10:28Speaker 7: go wrong. It fits everyone.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Well, let's talk about your hours leading up to Christmas.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Where we are at.
- 10:33Speaker 7: Sure, it's nine am to nine pm Monday through Friday.
- 10:38Speaker 7: I'm sorry, eight am to eight pm Monday through Friday,
- 10:41Speaker 7: at nine until six on Saturday, closed on Sunday, but
- 10:45Speaker 7: we are going to be open Christmas Eve as well.
- 10:48Speaker 6: For nine truly last minute, last minute, and.
- 10:51Speaker 7: We see them nine until one. But you can also
- 10:54Speaker 7: easily give us a call. We could sell your gift
- 10:57Speaker 7: certificate over the phone and send it to your email,
- 11:00Speaker 7: or you could go to spa bliss dot com and
- 11:03Speaker 7: purchase a gift certificate and print it out from home.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Talk about your how you communicate out there with like
- 11:09Speaker 6: social media websites, you get that stuff. I'm sure, Oh.
- 11:13Speaker 7: Yeah, we have it all. We have our Facebook pages, spobless,
- 11:16Speaker 7: our Instagram is spobless. Wv you could go to any
- 11:20Speaker 7: of those. Look at our services, people's experiences.
- 11:24Speaker 6: Sure, all the reviews.
- 11:25Speaker 7: Keav.
- 11:26Speaker 6: It's been a pleasure having you on the show today.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Leave our listeners with like the final final thirty or
- 11:31Speaker 6: forty five seconds. I'm giving you a little airtime here
- 11:34Speaker 6: just to just sell your business.
- 11:35Speaker 7: Okay, would you like me to sing?
- 11:38Speaker 6: Look, we just came off of our WVRC Media Christmas
- 11:42Speaker 6: party over at the Roughner last night. Some of the
- 11:45Speaker 6: singing that came from there. We need good singers right now.
- 11:50Speaker 7: So you walk in Spa bless you just vision your
- 11:53Speaker 7: day of the at the spa. You walk in, they
- 11:56Speaker 7: give you a robe and sandals. You go up to
- 11:59Speaker 7: the dressing room. You change clothes. There's showers there, there's
- 12:04Speaker 7: places for women to take a shower to dry their
- 12:07Speaker 7: hair and men as well. Go down to the fifth floor,
- 12:09Speaker 7: get your massage, and then you go out to the
- 12:12Speaker 7: relaxation area and have some hot tea and a little cookie.
- 12:16Speaker 7: Go your esthetician will pick you up from there and
- 12:19Speaker 7: give you a facial send you down to the fourth floor.
- 12:21Speaker 7: You get a pedicure, manicure, your hair done. So it
- 12:26Speaker 7: is truly, like I said already a couple of times,
- 12:28Speaker 7: it's truly an experience. It's not just come in and
- 12:32Speaker 7: grab you and give you a massage, but it's truly
- 12:35Speaker 7: a place that you could rely.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Charles's really lucky to have a place like this. I
- 12:39Speaker 6: mean really it is, because people travel hundreds of miles
- 12:43Speaker 6: for this kind of service, and they probably pay a
- 12:45Speaker 6: whole lot more for it too, including the gas to
- 12:47Speaker 6: get there here right here in Charles.
- 12:49Speaker 7: Yeah, we're the largest day spot in West Virginia and
- 12:52Speaker 7: probably the Tristate area at least. So yeah, we've tried
- 12:56Speaker 7: to make a great place for West Virginias and local people.
- 13:01Speaker 6: KEM all right, Kathy, it's been a pleasure having you
- 13:02Speaker 6: in Showy appreciate you being here. Hang out with me

- 16:39Speaker 8: Well, my wife takes care of most of it. All
- 16:41Speaker 8: I'm left with is basically her.
- 16:43Speaker 6: I was going to say, you got to take care
- 16:44Speaker 6: of her or nothing else gets taken care of in
- 16:46Speaker 6: the future. Just so you know, all right, you has
- 16:49Speaker 6: to come on the show today because you have an
- 16:50Speaker 6: announcement to make.
- 16:51Speaker 8: I will turn it over to you. I do, David,
- 16:53Speaker 8: thank you for having me today. I'm just on here
- 16:56Speaker 8: to announce that I'm running for the state Senate in
- 16:58Speaker 8: the seventeenth district. Okay, next year, I will be running
- 17:01Speaker 8: in the Republican primary.
- 17:03Speaker 6: Okay, why are you running?
- 17:06Speaker 8: The number one thing is jobs and economic growth. I
- 17:08Speaker 8: think we've done some really positive things in recent years
- 17:12Speaker 8: in terms of economic development economic growth, but at the
- 17:15Speaker 8: same time, I don't think we've gone far enough. One
- 17:19Speaker 8: of the reasons why I ran for the House of
- 17:21Speaker 8: Delegates was jobs, job creation, getting government out of the way.
- 17:25Speaker 8: And my main motivation is that I want to create
- 17:29Speaker 8: more jobs, have greater economic opportunity for all West Virginians,
- 17:33Speaker 8: and I think we're not doing enough with that. I think,
- 17:35Speaker 8: oftentimes down in the legislature, and I saw this firsthand.
- 17:38Speaker 8: You were there, Yeah, I was there. In many instances,
- 17:43Speaker 8: a lot of the special interests got in the way
- 17:45Speaker 8: of true economic growth. So, for example, one of the
- 17:48Speaker 8: things I saw when I was down there is oftentimes
- 17:51Speaker 8: larger corporations advocating for more government. I saw that down there,
- 17:55Speaker 8: and I think the reason for that is and I
- 17:57Speaker 8: think part of it is just self interest. Larger corporations
- 18:02Speaker 8: can absorb the costs of regulations more than smaller businesses,
- 18:06Speaker 8: and what that does oftentimes is that by having more regulations,
- 18:10Speaker 8: it helps weed out the competition for large scale major corporations,
- 18:15Speaker 8: and I think one of the things that we can
- 18:17Speaker 8: do is make life easier for smaller businesses because frankly,
- 18:20Speaker 8: that's where a lot of economic growth comes from across
- 18:22Speaker 8: the country. Small businesses here in the Kannaga Valley are
- 18:26Speaker 8: the lifeblood of our economy. That's where new jobs come from,
- 18:29Speaker 8: that's where innovation comes from. And the neat thing about
- 18:32Speaker 8: smaller businesses too, and I know this because I'm a
- 18:34Speaker 8: small business owner, is that we have the ability to
- 18:37Speaker 8: turn on a dime a little bit faster than a
- 18:39Speaker 8: bigger corporation. So that's where a lot of innovation comes from.
- 18:42Speaker 8: And we need to make sure that we are growing
- 18:43Speaker 8: the economy, helping out smaller businesses, helping out all West Virginians,
- 18:48Speaker 8: and I think that's a key component.
- 18:49Speaker 6: Talking with Chris Sprett, who has just announced he's going
- 18:51Speaker 6: to be running for State Senate as a Republican in
- 18:54Speaker 6: District seventeen, explain the district to us.
- 18:56Speaker 8: Sure, this district consists of if you're going from up
- 18:59Speaker 8: at Elk View, goes down through Elkview, Cissonville, Eastern Kanaal County,
- 19:05Speaker 8: north of the River, gets all of Charleston, South Charleston
- 19:09Speaker 8: then it goes out into Saint Albans. That's that's essentially
- 19:13Speaker 8: the district. And on that side of the county near
- 19:16Speaker 8: north of the river, it's it's it's up in that area.
- 19:20Speaker 8: Then once you get down South Charleston and then in
- 19:23Speaker 8: the western part of the county kind of south of
- 19:25Speaker 8: the river. Uh Dunbars in the eighth but yeah, uh
- 19:29Speaker 8: South Charleston, St Albans, all of that is in the district.
- 19:33Speaker 6: And we mentioned that before. You were in the in
- 19:35Speaker 6: the House of Delegates, and and that's not uncommon sometimes
- 19:39Speaker 6: people will be in the House and then they transition
- 19:41Speaker 6: to the Senate. What talk about your experience in the
- 19:43Speaker 6: House because you were a relative newcomer to politics, you
- 19:46Speaker 6: know when you when you got elected and you went
- 19:48Speaker 6: in there. So talk about your experience in the House
- 19:51Speaker 6: and some of the maybe some of the things that
- 19:52Speaker 6: that you were proud of or that you accomplished that
- 19:54Speaker 6: you think will also now turn to make you a
- 19:56Speaker 6: good state senator.
- 19:57Speaker 8: Well, I think the tax cuts that was one of
- 19:59Speaker 8: the main things that we were to achieve. The tax
- 20:00Speaker 8: cuts were monumental. We were able to get those through.
- 20:04Speaker 8: It helped out all West Virginians. I think that was
- 20:07Speaker 8: a big thing. The Hope Scholarship, that was a big thing.
- 20:12Speaker 8: School choice, that's something that helped a lot of families.
- 20:15Speaker 8: That's something that I think is going to push us
- 20:17Speaker 8: forward going into the future. School choice, whether it's no
- 20:21Speaker 8: matter the type of school we're talking about public school,
- 20:24Speaker 8: if we're talking about private school, across the board, providing
- 20:28Speaker 8: for more school choice. I was very very happy to
- 20:31Speaker 8: be a part of that. And I think making sure
- 20:35Speaker 8: that we are leading the nation when it comes to
- 20:38Speaker 8: energy production. I'm really happy with a lot of the
- 20:40Speaker 8: things that we were doing there in the legislature in
- 20:42Speaker 8: terms of having, above all all check all the boxes
- 20:47Speaker 8: when it comes to energy. I'm a big advocate for that.
- 20:49Speaker 8: I think that's something else that we did. We need
- 20:52Speaker 8: to have. I think government needs to be neutral when
- 20:55Speaker 8: it comes to just about everything. It needs to be neutral.
- 20:57Speaker 8: In terms of energy. We shouldn't be playing favorites. For example,
- 21:01Speaker 8: with the so called green energy, I don't think they
- 21:03Speaker 8: should get special treatment. And I think we should make
- 21:06Speaker 8: sure that we have the best resources possible in terms
- 21:09Speaker 8: of our energy production. So those are some of the
- 21:11Speaker 8: things that I'm very proud of.
- 21:13Speaker 6: And you know, one of the one of the issues
- 21:16Speaker 6: that West Virginia has had is population lost. Now, we
- 21:20Speaker 6: have seen in some areas some gains. We've seen announcements
- 21:22Speaker 6: from places like New Core and things of that nature,
- 21:25Speaker 6: which has certainly certainly helped. But how do we get
- 21:29Speaker 6: people to want to either choose to move to West
- 21:32Speaker 6: Virginia or and specifically we'll just talk about your district, yes,
- 21:36Speaker 6: or how do we get people that are here to
- 21:38Speaker 6: stay here? Specifically are young people.
- 21:40Speaker 8: I think a key part of it is broadband. I
- 21:44Speaker 8: think that's one area where West Virginia can greatly improve.
- 21:47Speaker 8: I mean when people move here. I talk to people
- 21:49Speaker 8: all the time who are moving, and I do a
- 21:51Speaker 8: lot of estate planning with my business. I'm talking with
- 21:53Speaker 8: people all the time that are moving to West Virginia
- 21:56Speaker 8: because they love it here. We have a low cost
- 21:58Speaker 8: of living. We have of like right here in the valley.
- 22:01Speaker 8: I mean, you have everything you need. My mother in
- 22:04Speaker 8: law just moved down here from Buffalo, New York. I'm
- 22:06Speaker 8: from West Virginia, but you know she's from Buffalo, New York.
- 22:08Speaker 8: She moved down here, loves it, absolutely loves it. We
- 22:12Speaker 8: have a low cost of living, but there are things
- 22:14Speaker 8: that we can do to tweak this to provide for
- 22:16Speaker 8: greater opportunities. Broadband expansion is one, if we can get
- 22:21Speaker 8: a lot of those younger people, people who can I mean, look,
- 22:24Speaker 8: the economy in the future is going to be such
- 22:26Speaker 8: that people can live just about anywhere, and we have
- 22:29Speaker 8: to make the case in West Virginia that this is
- 22:31Speaker 8: a place where you can have all the amenities that
- 22:34Speaker 8: you have in other places, but we have the added
- 22:37Speaker 8: benefits of some other things as well, a low cost
- 22:39Speaker 8: of living, access to the outdoors. The new Ever Gorge
- 22:42Speaker 8: is right next door. We have great hospitals right here
- 22:46Speaker 8: in Kanau Valley. Those are some of the things that
- 22:48Speaker 8: I think we can do. I think that's going to
- 22:50Speaker 8: be the key to it. And also too, making sure
- 22:53Speaker 8: that if businesses are going to relocate here, if people
- 22:56Speaker 8: are going to move in, that we make it as
- 22:59Speaker 8: easy is possible for them to do it. And we've
- 23:01Speaker 8: we've taken some good strides in recent years to do that.
- 23:04Speaker 6: You think we still have more work to do in
- 23:06Speaker 6: that respect, though.
- 23:07Speaker 8: We do absolutely. I mean, I think we can do
- 23:09Speaker 8: things like I think the income tax could be lowered
- 23:12Speaker 8: even further. I think that we can be getting government
- 23:15Speaker 8: out of the way. Everything needs to be looked at
- 23:19Speaker 8: from the perspective of how are we going to make
- 23:22Speaker 8: things easier for somebody to open a business? How can
- 23:25Speaker 8: we make it easier just in terms of lowering costs.
- 23:29Speaker 8: I mean, that's something that I hear about a lot
- 23:31Speaker 8: about is lowering costs. Price is going up, and I
- 23:34Speaker 8: think there are some things that we can do about that.
- 23:36Speaker 8: I think one of the things that we can do
- 23:39Speaker 8: is simply on a national level. We can't do anything
- 23:42Speaker 8: about certain things in terms of the broader economy, but
- 23:44Speaker 8: we can do things about rising wages. I think the
- 23:49Speaker 8: more people we get in here, I think it's going
- 23:51Speaker 8: to help everybody across the board. Broadband, I think is
- 23:54Speaker 8: an important component of that.
- 23:56Speaker 6: Talking with Chris Sprett again, who is announce he is
- 23:58Speaker 6: running for State Senate District seventeen is a Republican of
- 24:01Speaker 6: a Dave Island Show and five eighty Live broad to
- 24:03Speaker 6: you in part by Pinnacle Consultants. They're lead paint inspection
- 24:06Speaker 6: and risk assessment services designed to identify and to assess
- 24:09Speaker 6: the presence of lead based paints and buildings and other
- 24:11Speaker 6: structures using a three phase approach including inspection sampling and
- 24:14Speaker 6: lab analysis and an assessment report. Check out Pinnacle Corp
- 24:17Speaker 6: dot net because what you don't know can hurt you.
- 24:20Speaker 6: You know, it's a crowded field that's going to be
- 24:22Speaker 6: running in twenty twenty six. Some of the states Senate
- 24:24Speaker 6: seats are up, all the House seats are up. And
- 24:26Speaker 6: just like you know, the Chris the Democrats controlled West
- 24:28Speaker 6: Virginia for eighty three years, and you had different factions
- 24:31Speaker 6: of Democrats. So I mean it was like, Okay, we
- 24:33Speaker 6: have these Republicans, but we have this kind of we
- 24:35Speaker 6: have pro business, we have a more conservative, we have
- 24:37Speaker 6: you know, evangelic, whatever you want to name. Now the
- 24:40Speaker 6: Republican party that they're in charge, they are starting to
- 24:44Speaker 6: and it's not necessarily a bad thing, don't get me wrong.
- 24:46Speaker 6: They just did different sections. If you had to define
- 24:50Speaker 6: what kind of Republican the chrisprint is, what would that be?
- 24:54Speaker 6: A free market constitutional conservative? That's it. That's the best
- 24:58Speaker 6: way to describe who I am. I believe limited government,
- 25:01Speaker 6: I believe in traditional conservative West Virginia values, and I
- 25:06Speaker 6: believe in the constitution. And I think our constitution works.
- 25:09Speaker 6: We have the greatest constitution in the history of the world.
- 25:12Speaker 6: And I think if we work within those confines, if
- 25:15Speaker 6: we honor the Constitution, if we work towards some limited
- 25:20Speaker 6: government and liberty, that's how we're going to advance as
- 25:23Speaker 6: a state. I mean, you see that in other states
- 25:25Speaker 6: that have grown a lot over the years. They have
- 25:28Speaker 6: more economic opportunity, they have more freedom, and I think
- 25:31Speaker 6: that's what perhaps distinguishes me from other types of Republicans.
- 25:35Speaker 6: I mean, there is such a thing as a big
- 25:38Speaker 6: government Republican in the state of West Virginia. A lot
- 25:41Speaker 6: of these people are tied to the special interests. They're
- 25:44Speaker 6: tied to the folks that want to keep the status
- 25:48Speaker 6: quo when it comes to special carve outs for different groups,
- 25:53Speaker 6: and such a government should be neutral.
- 25:56Speaker 8: We should get out of the way. Nobody should be
- 25:58Speaker 8: getting favoritism in government. It should be neutral, and the
- 26:01Speaker 8: rules should be applied equally and fairly.
- 26:06Speaker 6: Last I guess it was last week. And now this
- 26:08Speaker 6: is on the House side. I know you're running for Senate,
- 26:10Speaker 6: but last week House Speaker Roger Hanshaw came out with
- 26:13Speaker 6: an announcement about there, you know what the things that
- 26:16Speaker 6: he would like to see in the House. Haven't heard
- 26:19Speaker 6: that from the Senate, we probably will. It's still early.
- 26:21Speaker 6: But one of the things he talked about was he
- 26:23Speaker 6: talked about we want to focus on jobs, which you
- 26:25Speaker 6: mentioned earlier. To focus on jobs, we want to focus
- 26:28Speaker 6: on the economy and things that nature and get away
- 26:31Speaker 6: from some of the so called social issues. Now, again,
- 26:34Speaker 6: that was the House and you're running for Senate. Where
- 26:37Speaker 6: are you on some of these social issues, any particular
- 26:40Speaker 6: ones that you want to and I'll say trans issues
- 26:42Speaker 6: that have been debated, or vaccines or any of the above.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Did you have any opinions on any of those?
- 26:47Speaker 8: Well, I will say this, the idea that we should
- 26:50Speaker 8: be limiting the kind of legislation that we're bringing forth
- 26:52Speaker 8: in the legislature, I completely disagree with. I mean that
- 26:56Speaker 8: that whole idea. Look, we can do all of the above,
- 26:59Speaker 8: I mean, do we want to. I don't think most
- 27:01Speaker 8: West Virginians. I don't think most Republican Party primary voters
- 27:06Speaker 8: want us to just ignore certain cultural issues. I mean,
- 27:10Speaker 8: and that's not to say we should focus exclusively on them.
- 27:13Speaker 8: But you know, for example, if most people don't want
- 27:18Speaker 8: biological boys competing in girls sports, they just don't, Okay,
- 27:22Speaker 8: most West Virginians. If you take that idea to its
- 27:25Speaker 8: logical conclusion. We're not addressing those sort of issues, and
- 27:28Speaker 8: those sort of issues are important to many West Virginians.
- 27:31Speaker 8: It's important that we have legislation and we have laws
- 27:34Speaker 8: that reflect the values of the people here, and it's
- 27:37Speaker 8: important that Look, we're a conservative state and we can
- 27:40Speaker 8: do all of the above. So respectfully, I disagree with
- 27:44Speaker 8: the speaker if he was suggesting that we should just
- 27:46Speaker 8: ignore certain issues. We can do all of the above. Okay,
- 27:49Speaker 8: we can do multiple issues all at once. So that's
- 27:53Speaker 8: the approach that I have. It's not like we're passing
- 27:56Speaker 8: a lot of those laws anyways. When I was there,
- 27:58Speaker 8: it was it probably wasn't five percent of the bills
- 28:01Speaker 8: that we've passed that dealt with those topics. So I
- 28:04Speaker 8: think they obviously got a lot of attention just the.
- 28:06Speaker 6: Shiny objects, as you well know because you've been there,
- 28:09Speaker 6: and most things that go through the legislature would be
- 28:13Speaker 6: it's all important, but to a lot of people it
- 28:15Speaker 6: would be kind of boring stuff. And a lot of
- 28:16Speaker 6: it's bipartisan too. That never gets that never never gets
- 28:19Speaker 6: any play.
- 28:20Speaker 8: Yeah, right, absolutely, So I think that you know it's
- 28:25Speaker 8: we're not doing a whole lot of that anyways. But look,
- 28:28Speaker 8: if it represents the will of the people, if it's
- 28:31Speaker 8: important to West Virginians, we should at least be having
- 28:33Speaker 8: a conversation about it. We can do more than one
- 28:35Speaker 8: we can address more than one topic at once.
- 28:38Speaker 6: Talk about your campaign. You're going to be out knocking
- 28:39Speaker 6: on door. I mean, you've done this before in the House,
- 28:43Speaker 6: so you're going to be out knocking on doors. You're
- 28:45Speaker 6: looking forward to some meet the candidate's forums.
- 28:47Speaker 8: I think we're going to be doing meet the candidate forums.
- 28:49Speaker 8: I think we're going to be talking with people, going
- 28:51Speaker 8: out in the public where I'm going to be talking
- 28:54Speaker 8: to local leaders, trying to build consensus on how we
- 28:58Speaker 8: can move the state of West Virginia forward in the
- 29:00Speaker 8: seventeenth District here in Kannall County. I think all of that,
- 29:04Speaker 8: I think we're going to be doing that. I think
- 29:05Speaker 8: it's important that we get out there and we talk
- 29:07Speaker 8: about the issues. I think it's important that we make
- 29:12Speaker 8: sure that everybody is on board with good conservative legislation,
- 29:17Speaker 8: free market legislation. We're going to be doing all of that,
- 29:19Speaker 8: talking to as many people as we can do.
- 29:22Speaker 6: You have your social media or Facebook, websites or anything
- 29:27Speaker 6: up like that.
- 29:27Speaker 8: Yes, we'll social media. It's really really simple. It's at
- 29:30Speaker 8: print for the people that's on X, that's on Facebook.
- 29:33Speaker 8: If anybody wants to check out the campaign and get updates,
- 29:37Speaker 8: they can check it out there.
- 29:40Speaker 6: As you know, you've done this before. I close every
- 29:42Speaker 6: interview segment with a candidate by doing something I call
- 29:46Speaker 6: the final thirty, which is not timed. But I just
- 29:48Speaker 6: want to know why should people vote for Chris Pritt
- 29:51Speaker 6: for Republican State Senate District seventeen.
- 29:55Speaker 8: Because I'm going to represent the will of the people.
- 29:57Speaker 8: I'm going to represent West Virginia values. I'm going to
- 30:00Speaker 8: to advocate for those things that are important to all
- 30:02Speaker 8: West Virginians. Economic growth, conservative West Virginia First policies, That's
- 30:08Speaker 8: what I'm going to be advocating for. We have to
- 30:11Speaker 8: be working together to advance the state in a direction
- 30:14Speaker 8: that is consistent with our values, that represents West Virginia values.
- 30:18Speaker 8: I think going forward in terms of legislation, Look, if
- 30:24Speaker 8: anybody does any research on me, they're going to know
- 30:26Speaker 8: what my values are, They're going to know what my
- 30:28Speaker 8: record is. I think my record is that of a conservative,
- 30:32Speaker 8: a free market constitutional conservative. I did that in the House.
- 30:36Speaker 8: I'll do the same thing in the Senate.
- 30:38Speaker 7: Chris.
- 30:38Speaker 6: We wish you the best of luck. We'll be talking
- 30:40Speaker 6: in the future. Chris Spritt, Republican candidate for State Senate
- 30:43Speaker 6: District seventeen and always pleasure to see you, my friend.

- 36:11Speaker 6: She's actually going to be in Columbus interview in Ohio
- 36:15Speaker 6: Governor Mike DeWine, so you can look for that on
- 36:17Speaker 6: thirteen News coming to PSUE. Executive producer Stephanie Pauley is
- 36:21Speaker 6: also off for a few days, so the senior producer,
- 36:24Speaker 6: Ryan Nicholson and I are going to be in charge
- 36:26Speaker 6: of the whole dang thing coming up today. Who knows
- 36:29Speaker 6: what we'll get into. I do know that Hobby Kergible
- 36:31Speaker 6: is going to stop by of course, he dropped a
- 36:33Speaker 6: new commentary earlier and also a new state of Minds.
- 36:37Speaker 6: This is this interview segment that we do on Metro

- 36:55Speaker 6: Jeff Jenkins is going to stop by State Democratic Party
- 36:58Speaker 6: chair and delicate Mike Pushkin this year day. You know,
- 37:00Speaker 6: the president going back to President Trump is angering some
- 37:04Speaker 6: in the GOP because of recent comments that he wants
- 37:07Speaker 6: to reclassify cannabis, and that's not setting well with some
- 37:15Speaker 6: members of the GOP, specifically the more conservative wings of
- 37:20Speaker 6: the party, the more evangelical wings of the party, and
- 37:23Speaker 6: trust me, there are a lot of wings the Republican
- 37:26Speaker 6: Party right now. So Mike Pushkin is going to join
- 37:29Speaker 6: the State Democratic Party chair to talk about that. Also,
- 37:33Speaker 6: meteorologist Joe Fitzwater is going to stop by. You know,
- 37:36Speaker 6: we hadn't talked to Joe in about a week since
- 37:38Speaker 6: he brought the snowstorm in on his last week, and
- 37:40Speaker 6: now today, championshis are going to be in the sixties
- 37:42Speaker 6: and at least some areas of the state are going
- 37:44Speaker 6: to be looking at severe weather. I think they kind
- 37:47Speaker 6: of downplayed it for our area. They originally said that
- 37:49Speaker 6: the Canawa Valley may have some severe weather, some high winds,
- 37:51Speaker 6: and I think it's starting to be downplayed a little bit.
- 37:53Speaker 6: But some areas of the state are actually going to
- 37:55Speaker 6: get snow, some areas are going to get the severe weather.
- 37:57Speaker 6: We'll talk to Joe Fitzwater about that coming up a
- 38:00Speaker 6: little bit later on. Also, we're gonna talk about the
- 38:03Speaker 6: state's infrastructure. Some troubling information came out about the infrastructure
- 38:10Speaker 6: in West Virginia, so we are going to get to
- 38:12Speaker 6: that coming up on the show today. Plus Brad McElhenney
- 38:15Speaker 6: will stop by, and Putnam County Sheriff Bobby Egleton is
- 38:19Speaker 6: going to join us on the show today. I'm going
- 38:20Speaker 6: to get into this a little bit later on, but
- 38:22Speaker 6: Sheriff Egleton will join us. This high end heist, if
- 38:26Speaker 6: you will, of products from the day's Valley Kroger. It's
- 38:30Speaker 6: a very interesting story. So I we're going to get

- 38:35Speaker 6: again without thirteen News in Tonight Live anchor Amanda Baron
- 38:38Speaker 6: and me, well, no, I'll be here, she won't be here.

- 39:05Speaker 6: bottom and Trump just stopped all the funds that Biden
- 39:08Speaker 6: allocated for the state's infrastructure. We're going to talk about
- 39:11Speaker 6: that again coming up on the show today. Tex says,
- 39:14Speaker 6: if Christop Print believes in the Constitution, then he's not
- 39:17Speaker 6: a Trump supporter because Trump does not believe in the Constitution.

- 39:42Speaker 6: On Hustin's. Speaking of upcoming shows, I do want to
- 39:45Speaker 6: mention this we are less than a week away now
- 39:49Speaker 6: from our annual Jewish Christmas Spectacular with State Democratic Party
- 39:53Speaker 6: Chair and Delegate Mike Pushkin and myself. The aim of
- 39:56Speaker 6: Steel Band is going to be Stobby by the studio.
- 39:58Speaker 6: And if you've never heard the show in the past,
- 40:01Speaker 6: this is a day that I invite him, Pushkin, I
- 40:04Speaker 6: tell him, bring your guitar, believe your politics at the door.
- 40:08Speaker 6: We don't talk politics, we don't talk anything but just
- 40:11Speaker 6: holiday season and Jewish Christmas, like being Jewish, of course,
- 40:17Speaker 6: and we biled out some Christmas tunes. And this is
- 40:20Speaker 6: the first time that we've had Amas Steel the Band
- 40:23Speaker 6: on the show. I mean, in disrespect, they'll be making
- 40:25Speaker 6: their debut on the Jewish Christmas Spectacular. We've had it.
- 40:28Speaker 6: We had them on about I don't know a couple
- 40:30Speaker 6: of weeks ago when they had their big album drop
- 40:32Speaker 6: party out at Marty Gras. And look, I am a
- 40:36Speaker 6: lover of music of all type. These guys absolutely blow
- 40:38Speaker 6: me away. I mean they are fantastic. Especially it's the
- 40:42Speaker 6: genre of music that I really like, which is kind
- 40:44Speaker 6: of bluesy Southern rock, think Black Crows, that kind of stuff.
- 40:51Speaker 6: I know they don't like to be compared to other people.
- 40:53Speaker 6: But that's just to kind of give you the vibe.
- 40:55Speaker 6: They're fantastic. We're gonna put him with Pushkin. Pushkin's gonna
- 40:58Speaker 6: bring in another couple of his musician friends. We're just
- 41:01Speaker 6: going to tell some stories, We're going to play some
- 41:03Speaker 6: music and have a have a good old time. It's
- 41:06Speaker 6: coming up on Christmas Eve morning nine six here on
- 41:10Speaker 6: the Voice of Charleston WCCHS, so be sure and check
- 41:12Speaker 6: that out. Rich Lindsay is sponsoring it as he does
- 41:15Speaker 6: each year. Tony the Taylor, who is the quasi manager
- 41:18Speaker 6: for Amos Steele, is going to join us in the studio,
- 41:20Speaker 6: and I have put out the invitation to my frequent
- 41:24Speaker 6: guest on the show to stop by. This may be
- 41:28Speaker 6: the only radio show ever to get shut down by
- 41:30Speaker 6: the fire Department. Worked at a few places that were
- 41:32Speaker 6: shut down by the health department. That's actually a true story.
- 41:35Speaker 6: I worked at a radio station that was literally shut
- 41:37Speaker 6: down by the health department. That'll be that like Danny Jones,
- 41:40Speaker 6: That'll be in my book someday. But my frequent guest
- 41:44Speaker 6: of the show, everybody from Greg Thomas to elected officials
- 41:48Speaker 6: to the mayors of the just just come hang out.
- 41:51Speaker 6: The only requirement is though if you do come hang out,
- 41:55Speaker 6: you do have to bring food for Ryan. Okay, that's
- 41:57Speaker 6: the only thing that you have to do. That's the
- 41:59Speaker 6: only requirement. So I have fun with that coming up
- 42:01Speaker 6: on Christmas Eve morning, So hope you can join us
- 42:04Speaker 6: for that. Tex says, I think conservatives believe cannabis turns
- 42:09Speaker 6: people gay. Why else would they want to keep cannabis
- 42:12Speaker 6: schedule the same alongside heroin and illicit fentanyl? I think,
- 42:17Speaker 6: And I am not a proponent or an opponent of
- 42:20Speaker 6: cannabis either way, it's it does. I see the economic
- 42:23Speaker 6: impact of it and shake my head as to why
- 42:28Speaker 6: it is categorized alongside as a text, Texter said heroin
- 42:32Speaker 6: and fentanyl. I'm not a partaker myself. I have nothing
- 42:36Speaker 6: against people that are. It's just not my thing. But
- 42:41Speaker 6: I've said it's certainly worth taking a look at, and
- 42:43Speaker 6: I mean a serious I'm talking about West Virginia right now.
- 42:46Speaker 6: It is worth taking a serious, serious look at. And

- 48:38Speaker 6: That I am also not clear. That's a question that

- 48:42Speaker 6: I apologize for that, and let I'll tell you what

- 48:59Speaker 6: if you're you got about three minutes to let me know.
- 49:02Speaker 6: If not, I'll get an answer for you tomorrow, Nancy,
- 49:03Speaker 6: And I apologize for that.
- 49:05Speaker 3: All right, Thank you, sir.
- 49:07Speaker 6: Thank you Nancy calling us up today. Appreciate that. Yeah,
- 49:10Speaker 6: sometimes the host fumbles and should have asked that there
- 49:12Speaker 6: are two seats available, so I don't know which one
- 49:15Speaker 6: he's running for. So Chris Pritt, if you're listening right now,
- 49:18Speaker 6: text me and I'll get an answer. If not, Nancy,
- 49:21Speaker 6: I will promise you, I will leap right Ryan. Are
- 49:24Speaker 6: you producing tomorrow? Who's producing tomorrow? Whoever's produced? Okay, remind
- 49:27Speaker 6: me tomorrow first segment, even before we try to get
- 49:30Speaker 6: the dog adopted. I'm going to find out that for Nancy. Okay,
- 49:33Speaker 6: So try to remind me of that from this addled
- 49:35Speaker 6: mind that I have. Brad mclahanny has a story posted
- 49:38Speaker 6: this morning wv metronews dot com. A panel of US
- 49:42Speaker 6: appeals judges entered in order allowing the National Guard members
- 49:46Speaker 6: from states including West Virginia to remain in d C
- 49:49Speaker 6: while the case is under review. Now. Yesterday's order by
- 49:53Speaker 6: three judges on the Appeals Court for DC doesn't really
- 49:57Speaker 6: represent a final outcome in case, but it does mean
- 50:01Speaker 6: the appeals judges agree that Guard can remain on duty
- 50:07Speaker 6: in DC for now. It's it's very long, it's very complicated.
- 50:11Speaker 6: Brad doing Brad things as he always does, lays it
- 50:14Speaker 6: out perfectly he's got links to the orders and the
- 50:16Speaker 6: legales and so on and so forth over wv metronews
- 50:19Speaker 6: dot com. And we are going to be joined by
- 50:21Speaker 6: Brad during the two o'clock hour today on Metro News Midday,
- 50:24Speaker 6: so he'll give us a little update about that Texas.
- 50:28Speaker 6: Worst thing w Cochs could do would be to put
- 50:30Speaker 6: the right wing propagandists who can't work a real job
- 50:33Speaker 6: back on the radio. Well, I feel pretty confident that.
- 50:36Speaker 6: I mean, I don't want to get ahead of my
- 50:38Speaker 6: skis here, but I feel pretty confident that Dan Bongino
- 50:42Speaker 6: will not be returning to Who's the thing about Bongino?
- 50:45Speaker 6: I never understood politics aside. I listened to the show
- 50:49Speaker 6: from time to time. I really wasn't a big fan,
- 50:52Speaker 6: not necessarily because of his politics. I just didn't really
- 50:54Speaker 6: like his style. And that's okay. If you listened, he
- 50:56Speaker 6: probably didn't like my style either. But Bongino spent a
- 50:59Speaker 6: whole lot of time time, and we can say this
- 51:01Speaker 6: now that he's not on the air anymore, taking a big,
- 51:04Speaker 6: old giant crap on Legacy Media. And the ironic thing
- 51:09Speaker 6: about that is he did it while he was on
- 51:11Speaker 6: Legacy Media, and he didn't respect. I will say this
- 51:16Speaker 6: about Rush Limbaugh. You can say what you want to
- 51:18Speaker 6: about Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh a saved AM radio. By
- 51:23Speaker 6: I mean he saved it. And number two, he respected
- 51:27Speaker 6: the medium. Rush Limbaugh came to talk radio after being
- 51:30Speaker 6: a rock jock. A matter of fact, a former coworker
- 51:32Speaker 6: of mine who was from Pittsburgh actually worked with Rush
- 51:35Speaker 6: when his name was Jeff Christy and he was on
- 51:37Speaker 6: the air in Pittsburgh. So I will say that about Rush.
- 51:42Speaker 6: Rush did respect the medium of radio. Dan Bongino did
- 51:44Speaker 6: not respect the medium of radio. He didn't respect anything,
- 51:49Speaker 6: and he took to the airwaves basically just trashing the
- 51:54Speaker 6: very airwaves and media that he was on, which was
- 51:58Speaker 6: kind of an interesting flex for me. So I don't
- 52:02Speaker 6: think I don't think you have anything to worry about.
- 52:04Speaker 6: I may not be around, but I don't think you
- 52:06Speaker 6: gotta worry about bunging Gene. Okay, this close with this
- 52:09Speaker 6: the story of thievery that is coming out of Putnam
- 52:12Speaker 6: County fascinating. Chris has it posted with pictures wv Metronews
- 52:15Speaker 6: dot com. The Sheriff's Department. They're looking for a group
- 52:17Speaker 6: of thieves with expensive taste, stealing crab legs, wines, steak,
- 52:22Speaker 6: et cetera. Give them credit for having good taste. I
- 52:24Speaker 6: guess they've hit up to Tayese Valley Kroger twice in
- 52:27Speaker 6: recent days. If you head on over to the website
- 52:31Speaker 6: wv Metronews dot com and also WCCHS Network dot com,
- 52:34Speaker 6: we have got some pictures posted on there, and as
- 52:37Speaker 6: I said, Putnam County share Bobby Egleton is going to
- 52:39Speaker 6: join me on the show coming up but later today
- 52:42Speaker 6: on Metro News Midday during the twelve o'clock hour. Thanks
- 52:44Speaker 6: to all my guests today Kathy Rubion and also Chris
- 52:47Speaker 6: Prince S and your producer Ryan Nicholson. I will see
- 52:49Speaker 6: you later today at noon for Metro News Midday. Till then,
- 52:52Speaker 6: have fun and love somebody.
