- 0:07Speaker 1: It's media podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your guest host,
- 0:17Speaker 1: doctor Randall Williams, PhD. Today we're joined by Giannis Ptelis,
- 0:22Speaker 1: Ryan Callahan, Spencer Newharth, Corey Culkins, Corine Schneider, Hunter Spencer,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Brody Henderson and our special guest today, Brian the Butcher Harmon. Brian, Welcome,
- 0:35Speaker 1: thanks for having me. This is a ten round quiz
- 0:37Speaker 1: show with questions for meat eaters four verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:41Speaker 1: conservation and cooking, and there is a prize. Meat Eater
- 0:45Speaker 1: will donate five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of
- 0:48Speaker 1: the winners choosing Brian, this is your first time playing
- 0:52Speaker 1: Meet Eater Trivia. How do you feel about your chances?
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm not My expectations are very low.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Fantastic profession I'd just like to note that this is
- 1:02Speaker 1: a contest in which you want to have the high score.
- 1:05Speaker 1: High score, Why don't you tell the folks at home
- 1:08Speaker 1: traditional trivia? Yeah, yeah, as opposed to golf. Before diving
- 1:16Speaker 1: into the stat of the week, I would like to
- 1:18Speaker 1: note that I am simply reading from a script prepared
- 1:20Speaker 1: by Spencer for the next few minutes. I'm grateful for
- 1:23Speaker 1: his preparation. Each week here on Trivia, we reveal a
- 1:27Speaker 1: new stat for the stat of the week. This week,
- 1:30Speaker 1: we're looking at my own performance. On average, I get
- 1:33Speaker 1: seventy percent of questions right. In the hunting category, it's
- 1:37Speaker 1: sixty eight percent, in the fishing category sixty seven percent,
- 1:41Speaker 1: in the conservation category it's seventy two percent, and in
- 1:45Speaker 1: cooking it's seventy percent. It's really no surprise that I
- 1:49Speaker 1: excel in trivia because I am, after all, a doctor.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I didn't write that part.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Oh you know, like seventy percent in schools, like barely a.
- 1:59Speaker 5: C I know.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'm horrified by looking at this.
- 2:02Speaker 5: See he's good degrees.
- 2:03Speaker 6: And then yeah, Grandpa the surgeon would say, you know what,
- 2:08Speaker 6: see you got you medical school.
- 2:11Speaker 7: Doctor.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Yeah, Randall, I trust you as a doctor. Really, I
- 2:16Speaker 3: think I would.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Uh, because I'm calm and cool under pressure.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, that's fantastic. Yeah, seems like you have good
- 2:23Speaker 3: bedside manner. I could trust you.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm good at putting on the face right.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Oddly aloof like like most good surgeons are.
- 2:32Speaker 3: How do you know what most good surgeons.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Are like, I've had to go see a couple of work.
- 2:37Speaker 7: Sucks.
- 2:38Speaker 3: It's a compliment, Randall, thank you.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean we were just getting we're just getting
- 2:43Speaker 1: to know each other. But apparently he's got a good read.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Here's our zero percenter question of the week, which tests
- 2:51Speaker 1: how much knowledge players have retained from previous games. This
- 2:55Speaker 1: question was from episode four hundred and fifty six. The
- 2:58Speaker 1: topic was woodsmanship, and nobody got it right. Merriam Webster
- 3:03Speaker 1: defines this five letter word as quote a spout inserted
- 3:07Speaker 1: in a tree to draw off sap.
- 3:13Speaker 7: Hmmm, I forgot it already.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I will read your election.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 3:22Speaker 7: That's more than five letters.
- 3:26Speaker 1: No, do we give up? I think we should. The
- 3:31Speaker 1: correct answer was spile s p I l E. That
- 3:35Speaker 1: sticks with you. No, No, I remember thinking that I
- 3:38Speaker 1: didn't like this question when I first heard it, and
- 3:40Speaker 1: then I read it again when Spencer sent me this email,
- 3:43Speaker 1: and it aggravated me once more.
- 3:45Speaker 7: Uh.
- 3:45Speaker 1: The incorrect answers given were stipe, spout, spike, and crank,
- 3:51Speaker 1: which makes more sense. Yes, we also have some housekeeping
- 3:55Speaker 1: to get to. In a previous game of Trivia, we
- 3:57Speaker 1: had a question about the new River Gorge National Park,
- 4:01Speaker 1: and while I was taking a victory lap at my
- 4:03Speaker 1: correct answer, I talked about an ancient river that was
- 4:06Speaker 1: there before the new river. I pronounced the old river
- 4:10Speaker 1: as the Tees River, but listener Brent Brash wrote in
- 4:14Speaker 1: to let me know that it's actually the Tas River.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I guess I should have gotten a doctorate an English
- 4:19Speaker 1: instead of philosophy.
- 4:22Speaker 3: That's a weird thing for you to say, Randall.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I know, I know my degree is in history.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Though, Oh, you need to update your LinkedIn then, because
- 4:29Speaker 3: that's where I got that information.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Well, I don't want to get somebody. I don't want
- 4:34Speaker 1: to get into advanced degrees.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Here his multiple advanced degrees. He just got one on
- 4:40Speaker 3: the side while he was getting why why would you
- 4:42Speaker 3: LinkedIn say philosophy? Then who are you trying to impress?
- 4:46Speaker 1: So on the in the academic world, it's always a
- 4:48Speaker 1: doctor of philosophy like a doctor of me. You don't
- 4:51Speaker 1: become a doctor of history of a doctor of philosophy
- 4:53Speaker 1: in history. Yeah.
- 4:57Speaker 3: School.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Now, the Sydney Index for today's round is a three,
- 5:05Speaker 1: so our winner should get six and I feel pretty
- 5:07Speaker 1: good about that. With that, we're onto our game of trivia,
- 5:11Speaker 1: play the drop, Phil.
- 5:15Speaker 6: Look, it's so neat watching these kids live out their dreams.
- 5:19Speaker 7: You know, everybody's a winner here today.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Yeah, this is my nightmare.
- 5:24Speaker 2: We watch a lot of.
- 5:25Speaker 6: A lot of kids got night Bucks over the weekend,
- 5:27Speaker 6: but it's not not stacking up to this moment right.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I feel like I'm in the Santa suit right now.
- 5:34Speaker 7: Don't you feel a little bit good though, because you
- 5:36Speaker 7: should feel like you have a little better chance of
- 5:38Speaker 7: winning today being that he's not playing oh non asna Steve.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Steve said he didn't want a guest host because he
- 5:46Speaker 1: couldn't win, and I'm happy to be guest hosting because
- 5:50Speaker 1: I can't lose. So I actually feel while I don't
- 5:55Speaker 1: like that, while I don't like the camera trained right
- 5:57Speaker 1: at me, I feel comfortable knowing I won't walk out
- 6:00Speaker 1: out of here with a big old L on my forte.
- 6:02Speaker 4: I think you're doing great man, Thanks you guys so far.
- 6:05Speaker 7: You're the best one.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Thanks, Brody.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Sometimes sometimes I do lose, so there's a chance you
- 6:12Speaker 3: could take an l here.
- 6:14Speaker 5: Have any questions for us?
- 6:15Speaker 1: I do I do. Let's move on, thanks all. Question
- 6:20Speaker 1: number one the category of firearms. Oh you put the
- 6:24Speaker 1: answer on the board. Oh no, you didn't, never mind.
- 6:28Speaker 1: H The acronym SAMMY, most commonly associated with specifications for
- 6:34Speaker 1: firearm cartridges, stands for what And this is a multiple
- 6:38Speaker 1: choice question. Your options are a Standards of Arms and
- 6:42Speaker 1: Ammunition Manual for Industry, B Shooters in Arms Makers, International
- 6:48Speaker 1: C Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute, or D Scientific
- 6:55Speaker 1: Ammunition Accuracy, Measurement and Inspection. That's a lot of dollables, guys,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and I nailed them all.
- 7:01Speaker 3: You got the longest question ever already. I know.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I just realized that as I was reading it.
- 7:07Speaker 8: Spencer never does the A, B, C, D, but I
- 7:09Speaker 8: did in this case, just because I don't think people
- 7:10Speaker 8: are gonna want to write all that stuff.
- 7:12Speaker 3: You know this one, Brody, we'll find out.
- 7:16Speaker 1: We've got an answer from Brody.
- 7:19Speaker 6: I got an answer.
- 7:19Speaker 1: We've got an answer from Ryan Callahan.
- 7:23Speaker 7: I've looked at a lot of Sammy specs, but boy, I.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Can't do a lot of reloading.
- 7:27Speaker 7: Didn't you can't tell you what stands for? You got
- 7:32Speaker 7: any thirty out six reloads laying around?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Yes, dude, how are we feeling? We ready? Were ready
- 7:39Speaker 1: for reveal? Corey.
- 7:40Speaker 8: We've got an answer, yes, sir, Wait wait, get me
- 7:42Speaker 8: I lost I lost my markers is very important.
- 7:44Speaker 5: I'm sorry, Randall.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I'll continue to keep everyone's attention while Phil looks for
- 7:49Speaker 1: his marker.
- 7:50Speaker 5: Is that what means?
- 7:51Speaker 1: I don't know. It's that I think Phil space? Did
- 7:57Speaker 1: I do it?
- 7:57Speaker 7: Did it?
- 7:57Speaker 8: Grant?
- 7:58Speaker 5: I found it?
- 7:58Speaker 7: Okay?
- 7:58Speaker 1: Great? Why don't we flip our answers over here? Brian
- 8:04Speaker 1: the Butcher has a Hunter A, Corey D. Spencer, C. Brody,
- 8:14Speaker 1: B cal A, Karin A, and Giannis A. We have
- 8:23Speaker 1: a correct answer in the room. The answer is C
- 8:27Speaker 1: Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute Spencer. Who had C there?
- 8:34Speaker 5: Any Spencer?
- 8:35Speaker 8: Did?
- 8:36Speaker 5: Karen had it?
- 8:37Speaker 1: And I noted that. I noted that, But in the
- 8:40Speaker 1: moment I couldn't keep track of what I was just
- 8:43Speaker 1: so focused on reading the names and answers.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Cow was so quick to that A too. You looked
- 8:49Speaker 2: at you like, that's this is a no brainer without.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Like institute is redundant, Like I feel like we know
- 8:57Speaker 6: it's the institute.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Are you challenging me on the name of this organ?
- 9:01Speaker 5: No, I'm just explaining why I got it.
- 9:03Speaker 1: It's just like that's a stupid name. See correct answers
- 9:06Speaker 1: see sporting arms and ammunition manufacturers.
- 9:09Speaker 5: I think it's a stupid name. I think Sammy should
- 9:11Speaker 5: change their name.
- 9:12Speaker 8: That's why I changed.
- 9:13Speaker 7: Thank You.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Formed in nineteen twenty six, Sammy is an accredited developer
- 9:17Speaker 1: of standards for safety, reliability and interchangeability in firearm, ammunition
- 9:22Speaker 1: and component manufacturers. You'll commonly hear of Sammy approving the
- 9:26Speaker 1: latest new cartridge that goes to market, and you'll often
- 9:29Speaker 1: hear the phrase Sammy Speck used among handloaders or rifle builders.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And here's a fun fact for you. Sammy was among
- 9:36Speaker 1: the leaders in the effort to rally firearms and ammunition
- 9:39Speaker 1: manufacturers to support the Pittman Robertson Act.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Hmm, Jannis, did you used to push your loads past
- 9:45Speaker 4: the Samy specs?
- 9:46Speaker 1: No, sir, oh it's been done.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I tried to think about if I was the host there,
- 9:51Speaker 3: which ones would I come up with? And I thought
- 9:53Speaker 3: A and D were randall. So then I was down
- 9:55Speaker 3: to B and C, and I just guessed for C.
- 9:57Speaker 1: You know, I've never had so much fun trying to
- 9:59Speaker 1: come up with made up acronyms.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Okay, well, then you haven't played the board game Balder
- 10:03Speaker 3: dash should play that.
- 10:05Speaker 1: That's absolutely true. Question two is hunting. Two species of
- 10:14Speaker 1: this animal are the only trophies scored and recorded in
- 10:17Speaker 1: the Boone and Crockett Club record Book by a measurement
- 10:20Speaker 1: of its two prominent front teeth. Two species of this
- 10:29Speaker 1: animal are the only trophies scored and recorded in Boone
- 10:33Speaker 1: and Crockett by a measurement of its two prominent front teeth.
- 10:38Speaker 3: So the answer is one animal? Correct?
- 10:40Speaker 1: Yes, Okay, you got it.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Bro do you know this?
- 10:46Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say anything. If the answer was the
- 10:50Speaker 1: Northern robin and the Southern robin, you'd just say robin.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Day away from mammals, Johanny, I got this one right? Certain?
- 10:58Speaker 3: Not to and o here.
- 11:00Speaker 6: I don't think he's the only one.
- 11:01Speaker 7: Good for you? Are you? Are you giving us a
- 11:04Speaker 7: little lesson in smack talking to now?
- 11:06Speaker 1: No, I'm not scored by two front teeth.
- 11:12Speaker 8: M hm.
- 11:14Speaker 7: It's gotta be the timber tager.
- 11:15Speaker 1: We all get it. Looks like we're still waiting on
- 11:18Speaker 1: a couple of answers here, saber tooth cat.
- 11:22Speaker 7: Oh, I can only think of one animal with big
- 11:28Speaker 7: teeth teeth. Are those teeth the front teeth?
- 11:33Speaker 9: Are they if it's smiled like, we're out of questions.
- 11:41Speaker 1: God damn it, that's the time, Thanks Phil. Why don't
- 11:45Speaker 1: we flip our boards over and see who's got it?
- 11:49Speaker 1: We got a couple. Ryan, the Butcher's got nothing, Hunter
- 11:52Speaker 1: says bear, Corey says bear. Spencer says Walris. Brody says Walris.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Cal says all of his answers are crossed off. Elephant
- 12:05Speaker 1: Karinn says mountain Lion. Jannis says Walris. The correct answer
- 12:11Speaker 1: is Walris. To score a Walris, you add together the
- 12:15Speaker 1: length of each loose tusk, as well as four circumference
- 12:19Speaker 1: measures of east of each. An all time boone and
- 12:22Speaker 1: crocket Atlantic Walris must score at least in ninety five,
- 12:25Speaker 1: while an all time Pacific Walris must score at least
- 12:28Speaker 1: one hundred. The take of Walrus's has been prohibited since
- 12:32Speaker 1: nineteen seventy two under the Marine Mammal Protection Act. The
- 12:36Speaker 1: current all time Pacific Walris, scoring one hundred and forty
- 12:39Speaker 1: seven and four eighths, was picked up in nineteen ninety
- 12:41Speaker 1: seven by Ralph Young, who located the massive trophy while
- 12:45Speaker 1: flying the shores of Bristol Bay beachcombing in his supercub
- 12:49Speaker 1: two species?
- 12:51Speaker 2: Please? What are the two species of walrus?
- 12:53Speaker 1: Atlantic walrus and Pacific walrus? Two species of this animal?
- 12:58Speaker 1: So it's the two.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Do you measure a.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Hippo only measures North American animals?
- 13:05Speaker 7: Oh?
- 13:08Speaker 5: Doesn't it?
- 13:08Speaker 2: Atlantic walrus differ much from a Pacific.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Just a little smaller, it seems, okay?
- 13:15Speaker 3: Or are we good with the answer?
- 13:20Speaker 1: Our next question comes in the category of conservation sort of,
- 13:24Speaker 1: sort of. I didn't really label this one very Let's
- 13:27Speaker 1: just go with it.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Nobody cares.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe that was just an error and transposition between
- 13:32Speaker 1: my various documents. Jack Olsen's classic nineteen sixty nine book
- 13:37Speaker 1: Night of the Grizzlies, which details the fatal maulings of
- 13:40Speaker 1: two young women in Glacier National Park, was originally a
- 13:44Speaker 1: three part article for What Popular magazine? Anybody reading magazines
- 13:53Speaker 1: back in nineteen sixty nine. No, no, mmm, Phil, How
- 14:02Speaker 1: are we doing?
- 14:03Speaker 8: You're doing great?
- 14:04Speaker 1: Good on time?
- 14:04Speaker 5: Fantastic?
- 14:05Speaker 8: We're doing yeah, just perfect on time?
- 14:07Speaker 1: How's my am? I sitting at the right height, I
- 14:09Speaker 1: feel my postor.
- 14:11Speaker 8: You know, the more questions you asked me, the less
- 14:14Speaker 8: sort of confident you sound.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I just want to get it right. I just want
- 14:18Speaker 1: to get it. It seems like we have answers from
- 14:22Speaker 1: almost everybody in the room. Were ready to go to
- 14:24Speaker 1: answers here. WHOA, you're really rushing us.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you're not even giving us time to change, like
- 14:31Speaker 4: suss out the competition.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I think I think the listeners prefer the action.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Or you could take a second and ask me Corinne
- 14:38Speaker 3: and Hunter about the Phil's play that we went to
- 14:41Speaker 3: on Friday.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'll save that for another question. I'm gonna ask Corey,
- 14:45Speaker 1: are you confident in your answer? No, not at all. Great.
- 14:54Speaker 3: I still haven't decided yet.
- 14:55Speaker 4: That's why I'm trying to encourage some cross talk here.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Cal now, kelboy, I'm getting some whiteboards. I'm getting some
- 15:01Speaker 1: bad vibes from Cal right now. I don't think he
- 15:04Speaker 1: likes what I'm doing here.
- 15:05Speaker 5: No, I actually quite liked the pace.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Okay, fantastic, Randon. Can I ask you how confident you
- 15:11Speaker 1: are in my answer? I feel pretty good.
- 15:15Speaker 3: You think anybody has this right?
- 15:17Speaker 1: I bet someone?
- 15:19Speaker 6: I bet if you kept the pace high, we could
- 15:22Speaker 6: have more answers and thus more learning.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I'm trying to accommodate, Brody. I'm accommodated. Okay, we're sufficiently
- 15:29Speaker 1: accommodated in the back. The answer is Sports Illustrated, whoa
- 15:36Speaker 1: WHOA what you didn't yees? So that's why I need
- 15:43Speaker 1: to focus on.
- 15:46Speaker 8: Just completely psyched yourself out the last two minutes.
- 15:49Speaker 1: That's addressing Nobody says Field and Stream. Brian says National Geographic,
- 15:54Speaker 1: Corey Outdoor Life Spencer, National Geographic, Brody says National Geographic,
- 15:59Speaker 1: Cal says outdoor Life, Carinn says outdoor Life. Jannis says
- 16:04Speaker 1: Time that is a zero percenter after the Listrigel Olsen's
- 16:10Speaker 1: painstakingly researched account of the August nineteen sixty nine sixty
- 16:14Speaker 1: seven killings of Julie Helgeson and Michelle Coons in two
- 16:18Speaker 1: separate areas of the park stands as the definitive account
- 16:21Speaker 1: of this tragedy, so much so that the event itself
- 16:24Speaker 1: is most often referred to by the title of his book.
- 16:28Speaker 1: The May twenty sixth issue of Sports Illustrated featured a
- 16:31Speaker 1: cover headline that read the grizzly enemy of man must
- 16:35Speaker 1: he be exterminated question mark, and included a letter from
- 16:39Speaker 1: publisher Gary Valk, who wrote the following, it is hard
- 16:43Speaker 1: to accept the fact that the zoo image is not
- 16:46Speaker 1: the real image, and that the captive bear conceals his
- 16:49Speaker 1: hatred of man only because he has no choice. We
- 16:52Speaker 1: hope the menacing grizzly shown on this cover will help
- 16:55Speaker 1: reinforce Olsen's conclusion that man and bear can peacefully co
- 17:01Speaker 1: exist in the wild.
- 17:02Speaker 3: I didn't know that was his conclusion.
- 17:04Speaker 1: I don't know either. That's just what the guy in
- 17:06Speaker 1: s I wrote.
- 17:07Speaker 7: What a different time.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I thought he was going the other way.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, a very different time to be bandying about
- 17:14Speaker 1: ideas about should we exterminate a species.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Especially for sports illustrations.
- 17:20Speaker 1: At that point, anyway, if.
- 17:22Speaker 6: People need to broaden their minds and understand that sometimes
- 17:26Speaker 6: that's what coexisting is. You gotta look at all you
- 17:29Speaker 6: got it from all sides time.
- 17:31Speaker 5: Yes, that's actually like.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Very much coexisting, like you're coexisting in their belly.
- 17:38Speaker 7: Did you come across that when you were doing your
- 17:41Speaker 7: PhD research?
- 17:42Speaker 1: You know what I did? Thanks for asking you, honest.
- 17:45Speaker 1: It's one of my favorite images of all time is
- 17:47Speaker 1: the cover of that magazine, and I've stored it away
- 17:49Speaker 1: in my brain for years and years for this little trick.
- 17:52Speaker 3: What's the bear looking like?
- 17:53Speaker 1: Is he roaring? He's sort of head and profile like
- 17:57Speaker 1: this up beautiful.
- 17:59Speaker 5: That's the thumb right there.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Yeah, turn into you you turn. Tune in on YouTube
- 18:05Speaker 1: to see my face. We're on to question four. Question
- 18:11Speaker 1: four is in the category of fishing. Bill Lewis invented
- 18:17Speaker 1: this iconic lure by adding bbi's to a standard herdbait,
- 18:21Speaker 1: resulting in what Outdoor Life magazine once declared to be
- 18:25Speaker 1: quote the most influential fishing lure of all time. Got
- 18:32Speaker 1: some answers, hitting some whiteboards. That's a good sign. Some
- 18:35Speaker 1: people puzzling, some people, some people squinting.
- 18:41Speaker 7: Brian got this one.
- 18:42Speaker 2: I'm the most confident of this.
- 18:44Speaker 5: I feel, I feel, I feel pretty good.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Vibes coming from the left side of the room.
- 18:49Speaker 3: Specific Like you'd say, uh, an a five shotgun.
- 18:54Speaker 1: It's a it's a brand. Yeah, it's it's a product.
- 18:57Speaker 1: It's not like a it's not a category or a
- 19:00Speaker 1: type of lords. You would this would show up on
- 19:02Speaker 1: your receipt if you bought one. A good way to.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Set that up, Randall, thank you.
- 19:12Speaker 1: How was that musical? Sorry, not a musical? A screwball
- 19:16Speaker 1: comedy from the nineteen thirties. Among those who were in
- 19:19Speaker 1: attendance this weekend, Phil knock it out of the park.
- 19:22Speaker 1: It was great. Phil's a star.
- 19:25Speaker 7: Yeah, we knew.
- 19:27Speaker 3: That Phil is electric.
- 19:28Speaker 5: Show steeler is what I heard?
- 19:31Speaker 7: Electric?
- 19:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:32Speaker 7: Did you guys shower him with flowers at the end.
- 19:36Speaker 3: No, we showered him with wine. Came to the wine
- 19:38Speaker 3: bar afterwards. Oh, and he got Korean fried chicken. I
- 19:43Speaker 3: think in a glass of a.
- 19:45Speaker 7: Fashion that sounds much better than my Saturday night over there.
- 19:51Speaker 7: What was reason on the top of a ridge top
- 19:53Speaker 7: in twenty mile an hour winds?
- 19:55Speaker 1: And what was your cut of the was your cut
- 19:58Speaker 1: of the door? Phil?
- 19:59Speaker 8: Oh, don't fly until after the run of the show.
- 20:02Speaker 1: All right, all right, it looks like we're all ready
- 20:05Speaker 1: for the answer. I'll read yours first this time. Brian
- 20:10Speaker 1: the Butcher says a rattle trap. Hunter says rattle trap.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Corey says rattle banger Banger. Spencer says rattle trap. Brody
- 20:21Speaker 1: says rattle trap. Cal says rattle trap. Karinn has a question,
- 20:25Speaker 1: Mark Giannis says rattle trap. The correct answer is rattle trap,
- 20:31Speaker 1: launching what some have called the rattle Revolution. The rattle
- 20:36Speaker 1: trap took over the bass fishing scene in the nineteen seventies,
- 20:39Speaker 1: and the Bill Lewis Lure Company has since sold more
- 20:42Speaker 1: than one hundred and fifty million of them. Inspiration for
- 20:45Speaker 1: the lure's catchy name struck Lewis as he was driving
- 20:48Speaker 1: his old Ford station wagon, which he had affectionately nicknamed,
- 20:52Speaker 1: and he guesses, rattle you guys got it?
- 20:55Speaker 3: Rattle banger, the.
- 20:57Speaker 1: No, the rattle trap. Are you looking at? Corey's answer?
- 21:01Speaker 3: I see.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Legendary pro angler Roland Martin credits the rattle trap as
- 21:06Speaker 1: being quote very instrumental in my career and pointed out
- 21:09Speaker 1: that quote very few bait companies have been able to
- 21:12Speaker 1: exist on just one lure. Anybody caught a fish on
- 21:16Speaker 1: a rattle trap.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Caught a pierced. I pierced my mother's nose with a
- 21:19Speaker 2: rattle trap, as I did, Yes, I did.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Was that the bone you were throwing to him?
- 21:24Speaker 1: No? No, I had no idea. We haven't talked about
- 21:27Speaker 1: this yet.
- 21:27Speaker 2: We were catching hybrids up at clark Hill and Augusta
- 21:31Speaker 2: in the afternoon. They'll come and like boil up, and
- 21:33Speaker 2: you troll these rattle traps around the outskirts of them
- 21:36Speaker 2: and every line goes and so I'm trying to like
- 21:39Speaker 2: pitch this out pitch a rattle trap out, goes back,
- 21:42Speaker 2: doesn't come forward on the mom's face. Got to push
- 21:45Speaker 2: the bar through, caught it, bring it back out, And
- 21:48Speaker 2: I'm upset because that particular size rattle trap was the
- 21:53Speaker 2: one was that they couldn't stand and now it had,
- 21:56Speaker 2: you know, one less set of trouble.
- 21:59Speaker 1: She's still put up with your golf hobby after that, or.
- 22:03Speaker 2: That was for that was before golf, so she didn't
- 22:07Speaker 2: hold that against me.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Was that what made you take up golf?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Uh? No, maybe she steered you towards golf from fishing
- 22:14Speaker 1: in an event to prevent future puncture wounds.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Yep, I had a few, had a few of those. Yeah,
- 22:20Speaker 2: I remember the We used to call him like a
- 22:22Speaker 2: Charlie horse. But it was a top water plug that
- 22:24Speaker 2: had the the like almost looked like like any bitty
- 22:29Speaker 2: like anyway, I throw one of those things into the
- 22:33Speaker 2: bushes in our neighborhood and my dad's would me and
- 22:35Speaker 2: I'm trying to get it out and I finally, you know,
- 22:37Speaker 2: set it loose, and he said he heard it whistle
- 22:39Speaker 2: by him and then right into the top of my head.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I had I think it was a rattletrap. Stuck in
- 22:44Speaker 1: a bush and we were fishing from a canoe in
- 22:46Speaker 1: the boundary waters, and I chucked it up into the
- 22:48Speaker 1: bank and we paddle over to it and my dad's
- 22:51Speaker 1: trying to get it out, and a gust of wind
- 22:53Speaker 1: just blows the canoe into the hooks and he stuck
- 22:57Speaker 1: three fingers together on my trouble.
- 23:00Speaker 3: And he just the wind.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it wasn't my fault at all. And actually I
- 23:05Speaker 1: wouldn't have grabbed it the way he had put himself
- 23:08Speaker 1: in that.
- 23:09Speaker 7: That's why you're a doctor.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Yeah, we could have used a doctor on that on
- 23:13Speaker 1: that trip. On question five, unless there are any other
- 23:18Speaker 1: fun memories would like to recall about. Question five is
- 23:25Speaker 1: in the category of conservation, A proposal to damn this
- 23:29Speaker 1: river by some measures, north America's third largest, three hundred
- 23:35Speaker 1: miles downstream from the town of Circle at the site
- 23:38Speaker 1: of Rampart Canyon, would have created a lake roughly the
- 23:41Speaker 1: size of Lake Erie. I'll read that again because it's
- 23:47Speaker 1: very poorly worded. A proposal to damn this river by
- 23:52Speaker 1: some measures, north America's third longest, three hundred miles downstream
- 23:58Speaker 1: from the town of Circle at the site of ramp Canyon,
- 24:01Speaker 1: would have created a lake roughly the size of Lake Erie.
- 24:07Speaker 1: There's a lot of context cluesing there's guys, if you're
- 24:09Speaker 1: not familiar with this whole controversy, you can pick out
- 24:13Speaker 1: some pick out some clues there, and only one town
- 24:17Speaker 1: called Oh, you're picking up what I'm putting down. Then
- 24:26Speaker 1: Cal's staring at me. Brody's got an answer, Spencer's got
- 24:32Speaker 1: an answer.
- 24:32Speaker 7: I know a couple of circles. I don't know any Uh.
- 24:38Speaker 1: How are we feeling on this side of the room, poor, poor,
- 24:42Speaker 1: hung very hungry. M hmm, I'm feeling pretty hungry too.
- 24:47Speaker 1: You got plans yet? Brody's got an answer, Brody's got
- 24:51Speaker 1: his board down. Annis is waiting on an answer. Cal's
- 24:55Speaker 1: waiting on an answer.
- 24:58Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 24:59Speaker 8: I'm just gonna use this to apologize to the YouTube audience.
- 25:02Speaker 8: It cuts up the wrong camera, and I think you
- 25:03Speaker 8: just stared at my head for about ten seconds without.
- 25:07Speaker 7: Hope.
- 25:07Speaker 5: You enjoyed the view. You should be thanking you. You're
- 25:11Speaker 5: a star.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great break from Randall.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Electric the I had a hair on the kid, I
- 25:20Speaker 2: have a frame around it.
- 25:21Speaker 3: If it was on it was referenced no minimum, then
- 25:24Speaker 3: I think three times how handsome Phil was in the play.
- 25:28Speaker 3: They kept talking about how good looking he was. I
- 25:30Speaker 3: think they called them handsome. He was the love interest.
- 25:35Speaker 5: Can't teach that well.
- 25:36Speaker 6: I think we need to set this up. How would
- 25:38Speaker 6: you rate the other people on stage?
- 25:41Speaker 3: This is how they described him. When Phil entered the stage,
- 25:44Speaker 3: every character was swooning. Uh they were really there was
- 25:48Speaker 3: the energy changed in the theater.
- 25:50Speaker 1: So it's kind of is that how your normal life is?
- 25:52Speaker 7: Phil?
- 25:53Speaker 1: I was gonna say, it's like when he walks into
- 25:54Speaker 1: the podcast.
- 25:55Speaker 8: That's my burden to bear. People constantly putting frames around
- 25:59Speaker 8: my hair.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I'm going to help fill out here and change the subject.
- 26:03Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Cory answer, yep, why don't we reveal our answers? We
- 26:13Speaker 1: do have a correct answer in the.
- 26:15Speaker 5: Room, can we?
- 26:17Speaker 1: Yes? Okay, yeah, I just wanted to set up that suspense,
- 26:20Speaker 1: got it? This is yeah. Brian the Butcher says Missouri.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Hunter says Missouri, Corey says Columbia, Spencer says Yellowstone, Brody
- 26:33Speaker 1: says Colorado, cal has a blank board, Carinn has a
- 26:37Speaker 1: crossed out answer, and Yannis says the Yukon. The correct
- 26:41Speaker 1: answer is the Yukon River. First first put forth by
- 26:48Speaker 1: the Army Corps of Engineers in nineteen fifty four, The
- 26:51Speaker 1: highly controversial proposal to damn the Yukon at Rampart Canyon
- 26:56Speaker 1: or quote the narrows entailed to five hundred and thirty
- 26:59Speaker 1: foot high and four thousand, seven hundred foot long structure. Boosters,
- 27:04Speaker 1: including most prominently US Senator Ernest Groening, hoped it would
- 27:09Speaker 1: provide enough cheap electricity to attract industry to Alaska, and
- 27:12Speaker 1: if completed, the reservoir would have been the world's largest
- 27:15Speaker 1: man made body of water, at an estimated two hundred
- 27:18Speaker 1: and seventy miles long and eighty miles wide. Hunters and
- 27:21Speaker 1: anglers from across the country were among the most outspoken
- 27:24Speaker 1: critics of the idea, as it would have flooded the
- 27:26Speaker 1: slews and marshes that make the Yukon Flats one of
- 27:29Speaker 1: the most productive waterfowl breeding grounds in North America. Lake Erie, Yeah,
- 27:36Speaker 1: so that was a clue. There's not a lot of
- 27:39Speaker 1: places you could put a lake the size of Lake
- 27:41Speaker 1: Erie without flood and some stuff.
- 27:44Speaker 2: By what measure is the Yukon River the third.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Largest there's volume at length length yeah.
- 27:52Speaker 8: Yeah, Well you changed the wording of the question since
- 27:55Speaker 8: you sent me this email, so that's partially my fault too.
- 27:57Speaker 1: No, Phil, it's my fault. I feel this has all
- 28:00Speaker 1: been pretty scattershot and I haven't been as communicator. I
- 28:04Speaker 1: haven't been as communicative with you.
- 28:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 28:06Speaker 5: It started off great, it's kind of it's unraveling. This
- 28:11Speaker 5: is great.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I think, I think, I think I'm a great.
- 28:14Speaker 7: Time I've been in your seat. It's a lot of
- 28:17Speaker 7: work to put this together.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I was planning on doing it all yesterday
- 28:21Speaker 1: and pull yourself together right fell apart? Phil, We've now
- 28:26Speaker 1: we've now been through five questions. We're halfway through our
- 28:29Speaker 1: game of trivia. Can we have a score update please?
- 28:33Speaker 5: Oh I'd love to.
- 28:34Speaker 8: We've got Cory and Corinne with zero points. They'll they'll
- 28:38Speaker 8: get there. Then we've got Hunter, Cal and Brian all
- 28:41Speaker 8: with one point apiece. Brody has two and tied up
- 28:43Speaker 8: in first place, our Spencer and Giannis with three points.
- 28:46Speaker 7: This is by far and away the worst game I've
- 28:48Speaker 7: ever played.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I feel so congratula, Cal, I got I got a
- 28:54Speaker 1: couple coming up for you.
- 28:55Speaker 5: That pressures on.
- 28:57Speaker 7: Do you have a golf phone for Brian?
- 29:00Speaker 1: There's there's bone coming later, Big old bone coming later,
- 29:05Speaker 1: probably a family show. No, no, please please. Question six
- 29:23Speaker 1: is in the category of cooking. This term refers to
- 29:27Speaker 1: the intramuscular fat content in a cut of meat and
- 29:31Speaker 1: is one of the criteria for us d A grading.
- 29:39Speaker 1: This term refers to the intramuscular fat content in a
- 29:43Speaker 1: cut of meat and is one of the criteria for
- 29:46Speaker 1: us DA grading. We've got some answers in the room.
- 29:48Speaker 6: Cow feel good, feel better.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I wanted to get one of those out there in
- 29:55Speaker 1: the world, especially after you threw a But it's also
- 29:59Speaker 1: one of those that it can you know, if you
- 30:01Speaker 1: got the brain blockage, you could stump you. You could
- 30:04Speaker 1: stump you.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Randall, tell folks about the question that you wanted to do.
- 30:08Speaker 3: That was some movie reference with a bumper stick Oh, yeah,
- 30:11Speaker 3: you thought it was too obscure. Yeah, the mask the question.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't, I can't, it's it's not well. I
- 30:17Speaker 1: could ask the question, are you familiar with a film
- 30:22Speaker 1: where the character says he's got a bumper sticker on
- 30:25Speaker 1: his truck. He's he'd already rather be bow hunting. Do
- 30:29Speaker 1: you know this movie? Nope? Yes, And I wouldn't get it.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I was gonna play this clip. It's one of my
- 30:33Speaker 1: favorite clips. Are we all done with the movies? Kicking
- 30:36Speaker 1: and screaming? It's a Noah bombback film. Yeah, And they're
- 30:39Speaker 1: getting to an argument about a parking spot and the
- 30:42Speaker 1: guy's girlfriend gets out of the truck to yell at
- 30:44Speaker 1: the man who's taken her spot, and the character goes,
- 30:48Speaker 1: I don't think we should be doing this. He says,
- 30:50Speaker 1: he'd already rather be bow hunting. Let's just leave him alone. Zero,
- 30:57Speaker 1: We've got answers in the room. Ryan, the butcher says marbling.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Hunter says marbling, Corey's blank, Spencer marbling, Brody marbling, Cal marbling,
- 31:08Speaker 1: Karen marbling, Yannis marbling. The correct answer is marbling.
- 31:12Speaker 5: It's not as much fun when everybody gets on.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Well, Corey didn't get it.
- 31:19Speaker 3: It's actually more fun.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Don't put those vibes.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Cal said, is not as much fun if everyone gets
- 31:24Speaker 3: it's a Corey got it wrong.
- 31:29Speaker 1: It's more fun.
- 31:30Speaker 2: A tough one to miss for the new nickname.
- 31:32Speaker 9: According to the in the final naw.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't even make that connection that that could
- 31:40Speaker 1: have been your bone. But I got another one.
- 31:42Speaker 5: For you, okay.
- 31:44Speaker 1: According to Texas, a and m Agro Life Extension Service.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Marbling is the intermingling or dispersion of fat within the lean.
- 31:52Speaker 1: The minimum degree of marbling required for carcasses to be
- 31:55Speaker 1: graded prime is slightly abundant.
- 32:00Speaker 3: It's good that narrows it down.
- 32:03Speaker 1: There are all these great descriptors that coincide with the
- 32:06Speaker 1: different gradations, and they go from like abundant, moderately abundant,
- 32:12Speaker 1: slightly abundant, and they keep going down. And I was
- 32:14Speaker 1: just so tickled by something being slightly abundant. It was
- 32:20Speaker 1: just such a fun.
- 32:24Speaker 3: Is there any wild game that is good marbling?
- 32:27Speaker 7: Wild pigs?
- 32:28Speaker 1: Pigs?
- 32:28Speaker 6: I've seen the marbling in sheep. Maybe bears and muskos.
- 32:34Speaker 7: Yeah, black bears for sure.
- 32:37Speaker 3: No, guy, look like they'd have good marbling. But I've
- 32:39Speaker 3: never been into one.
- 32:41Speaker 7: Did not.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Question seven. I don't have a category for this one,
- 32:47Speaker 1: but it could be under gear order these cartridges from
- 32:51Speaker 1: smallest to largest by bullet diameter.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Oh, can I use my calculator?
- 32:56Speaker 8: No?
- 32:56Speaker 5: No, from from what to what?
- 32:59Speaker 1: From all us to largest by bullet diameter. We have
- 33:03Speaker 1: a three thirty eight Winchester Magnum three seventy five h
- 33:07Speaker 1: and h an eight milimeter Remington magnum and a nine
- 33:12Speaker 1: to three by sixty two Mauser.
- 33:24Speaker 3: What's so funny?
- 33:25Speaker 7: Randall?
- 33:26Speaker 2: The smallest and largest, smallest, the largest.
- 33:29Speaker 7: I don't know how I feel about this question.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Why I just said, I don't know what.
- 33:35Speaker 7: But are you not think about it?
- 33:37Speaker 1: You're not happy about it? Or you're not sure if
- 33:39Speaker 1: you're happier, because.
- 33:41Speaker 7: I'm a little perplexed right now.
- 33:44Speaker 1: A lot of numbers scrolling around folks heads. Some Coren's
- 33:48Speaker 1: got her calculator out. I'm only joking, only joking, furiously scribbling. Ah,
- 33:57Speaker 1: there's such.
- 33:57Speaker 4: A guess.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Clock is ticking. Brody's doing the thing where he gets
- 34:06Speaker 1: down low and puts his hand over his hat and
- 34:08Speaker 1: covers his face with the board.
- 34:09Speaker 3: That's a textbook.
- 34:10Speaker 1: That's textbook Brody for me.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Randall couldn't write this whole episode yesterday because he killed
- 34:16Speaker 3: a big giant bull.
- 34:18Speaker 1: And not a big giant bowl, but big enough.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I did.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I was gonna do all of this preparation that has
- 34:24Speaker 1: been evidently absent yesterday afternoon. But I shot a bull
- 34:28Speaker 1: at eight in the morning and got home well after dark,
- 34:32Speaker 1: and then I woke up at two thirty and I
- 34:34Speaker 1: just thought about trivia until four thirty, and then I
- 34:36Speaker 1: got up and just sat there staring at the screen.
- 34:40Speaker 3: That's prep Randall's just thinking about the thing.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I was surprised that you email so late.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Well, I had a similar thing. I was like, I
- 34:47Speaker 3: got to get this to Randall before Monday, and so
- 34:49Speaker 3: then I was up late last night.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I'm in bed by nine.
- 34:52Speaker 5: Just so you didn't how many grizzly bears did you see?
- 34:55Speaker 1: Saw two grizzly bears and heard one in the middle
- 34:58Speaker 1: of the night when I jumped out of my tent
- 35:00Speaker 1: to go to the bathroom, go and run off to
- 35:04Speaker 1: the trees and break a bunch of stuff. Really, yeah,
- 35:06Speaker 1: it was. It was not a I turned on the
- 35:09Speaker 1: longest movie I had on my phone and just let
- 35:11Speaker 1: it play noise after that, Jurassic World Dominion two hours
- 35:16Speaker 1: and forty four minutes.
- 35:19Speaker 5: And in Distress.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Well that's you know. Someone pointed that out to me.
- 35:22Speaker 1: They're like, the last movie I'd want to watch is
- 35:24Speaker 1: people being chased by a giant beast. And I said,
- 35:27Speaker 1: it didn't even occur to me. I I just looked
- 35:30Speaker 1: at what Amazon, you know, the automatic downloads, and two
- 35:33Speaker 1: hours and forty four minutes I said, I'm just going
- 35:35Speaker 1: to play this and turn the volume up and lay
- 35:38Speaker 1: there in my bag and stare at the tent. So
- 35:40Speaker 1: that was that was my Saturday night.
- 35:44Speaker 3: I feel like one of the Draft movies they like
- 35:45Speaker 3: feed them sheep, so you could have had like sheep.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Yeah, the first Jurassic Park they feed they feed a goat, yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 1: goat to a tyrannosaur. But they also feed a cow
- 35:55Speaker 1: to the velociraptors. That's when doctor Allen Grant says, you
- 36:00Speaker 1: reading velociraptors or something like that. Yeah, there's that very
- 36:04Speaker 1: dramatic opening scene. And do we have our answers? My sorry,
- 36:10Speaker 1: my computer run just why don't we turn our answers
- 36:14Speaker 1: over here? Wow? That is just calculus. I don't I
- 36:20Speaker 1: think that's an answer, just simply intended disregard. Oh oh,
- 36:23Speaker 1: I see you've listed them? Yes, eight millimeter? Can we Yeah? Sorry, Phil,
- 36:30Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 36:31Speaker 8: I didn't put letters down.
- 36:34Speaker 1: I will do? Will you do? You do? You You're gonna
- 36:37Speaker 1: have to keep track of this, that's fine. Brian the
- 36:39Speaker 1: Butcher says eight millimeter, three thirty eight, three seventy five
- 36:43Speaker 1: nine three by sixty two. Hunter says three thirty eight
- 36:47Speaker 1: eight millimeter nine three by sixty two three seventy five.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Corey says nine three by sixty two, eight millimeter three
- 36:55Speaker 1: thirty eight three seventy five. Spencer says eight millimeter three
- 37:00Speaker 1: thirty eight three seventy five, nine three by sixty two.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I feel like I'm recounting orders at a restaurant. Or
- 37:07Speaker 1: we can tell we get it right, Brody. Brody says
- 37:10Speaker 1: eight milimeter three thirty eight nine three by sixty two
- 37:13Speaker 1: three seventy five. Cow says eight millimeter three thirty eight
- 37:17Speaker 1: three seventy five, nine three by sixty two. Corin says
- 37:20Speaker 1: nine three by sixty two three thirty eight three seventy five,
- 37:23Speaker 1: eight millimeter. Giannis is eight millimeters nine three three thirty
- 37:26Speaker 1: eight three seventy five.
- 37:27Speaker 5: Are you having fun?
- 37:28Speaker 6: Oh?
- 37:28Speaker 1: I was planning on just going.
- 37:30Speaker 9: C A dB The correct answer, no, would you like? Sorry, Randell,
- 37:37Speaker 9: it's not just the time we need to Okay, keep going.
- 37:39Speaker 9: The correct answer is C A B D dB.
- 37:42Speaker 8: Ady got it right. Brody's the only one who got
- 37:44Speaker 8: it right.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:46Speaker 5: Uh, the zero point three got us.
- 37:48Speaker 7: Can you read the numbers? C A B D.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Four eight millimeters the smallest Okay.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Yeah, eight mili. Sorry, because of all these numbers, the
- 38:01Speaker 1: correct answer is C A dB that's eight milimeter Remington
- 38:04Speaker 1: Magnum three third eight, Winchester Magnum nine three by sixty
- 38:09Speaker 1: two Mauser and three seventy five eh and H.
- 38:12Speaker 2: What is the diameter on a non none three bout
- 38:15Speaker 2: sixty two Mauser?
- 38:16Speaker 1: H close to seventy point close? It's point three sixty
- 38:20Speaker 1: six point three sixty six.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Uh, so I knew a seven millimeter was a point
- 38:25Speaker 2: two eighty four.
- 38:26Speaker 7: Every millimeter's like.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Four, like the equivalent of four.
- 38:30Speaker 2: I got four point something here, So point something.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Three thirty eight is an eight six, so like an
- 38:35Speaker 1: eight six blackout, and then an eight millimeters three two
- 38:39Speaker 1: three like a three twenty five wisdom. So if you
- 38:43Speaker 1: knew one or more of those, you could have sort
- 38:46Speaker 1: of played around and fudged the numbers. My best friend,
- 38:49Speaker 1: Christian Hughes, had a Winchester Model seventy and nine point
- 38:52Speaker 1: three by sixty two mileser stolen from his home in Seattle.
- 38:55Speaker 1: It never turned up, but a handgun that was taken
- 38:58Speaker 1: in the same robbery was returned to him by the
- 39:00Speaker 1: Seattle Police Department after it was used in court as
- 39:03Speaker 1: evidence in a homicide trial.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Oh, did he keep it?
- 39:07Speaker 1: He sold it. He sold it because he thought it
- 39:09Speaker 1: was weird. And then the guy that bought it was like,
- 39:11Speaker 1: that's he was like kind of into it, kind of
- 39:14Speaker 1: like war relics or something that was pretty strange.
- 39:16Speaker 3: But yeah, that was I think I had hold on
- 39:18Speaker 3: to it.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Yeah, he had a whole cabinet full of guns. These
- 39:21Speaker 1: people broke into his house and they rolled it down
- 39:22Speaker 1: the stairs and knocked out his front door with the
- 39:24Speaker 1: cabinet and put it in the back of a Honda
- 39:27Speaker 1: court and drove it.
- 39:29Speaker 7: Seems odd his neighbor.
- 39:31Speaker 1: His neighbor watched the whole was unlocked. It's crazy. But
- 39:37Speaker 1: you came up with.
- 39:38Speaker 6: This when you were going through the SAMI book, right,
- 39:40Speaker 6: You're like, oh, there's my reloading.
- 39:42Speaker 1: No, no, I always I think it's fun to memorize
- 39:46Speaker 1: the what's what from metric to to standard?
- 39:49Speaker 7: I agree.
- 39:50Speaker 3: Did you know you had that brody or was any
- 39:51Speaker 3: of that guessing?
- 39:53Speaker 1: No? I know, I think I think cartridges and all
- 39:56Speaker 1: that stuff is ripe for trivia. Question eight comes to
- 40:01Speaker 1: us in the category of fishing. This fishing equipment manufacturer
- 40:07Speaker 1: got its name when it's Swedish predecessor ab or Fabricin. Sorry,
- 40:12Speaker 1: ab Or Fabricin didn't want to throw anyone off, which
- 40:16Speaker 1: translates to Watch Factory LLC merged with its US based distributor.
- 40:24Speaker 5: What that's the question?
- 40:26Speaker 1: Yeah, question?
- 40:27Speaker 7: What's question eight?
- 40:28Speaker 1: Now this fishing equipment manufacturer got its name when it's
- 40:32Speaker 1: Swedish predecessor ab Or Fabricin, which translates to Watch Factory
- 40:38Speaker 1: LLC merged with its US based distributor.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Brody, you got this?
- 40:45Speaker 1: We have an answer from Brody. Everybody else's you do?
- 40:49Speaker 5: Brody?
- 40:50Speaker 7: What part of it? Did you know?
- 40:54Speaker 1: All of it?
- 40:56Speaker 3: You knew it right away?
- 40:59Speaker 1: Let's see.
- 41:00Speaker 4: But I could flip it over and I could look
- 41:02Speaker 4: like a real ass.
- 41:03Speaker 1: I guess. Oh, Brodie, I feel confident. I think he
- 41:06Speaker 1: got it. I didn't know you were going to be here,
- 41:09Speaker 1: otherwise I would.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Have wasn't supposed you wouldn't ask this question.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Well, it's one thing to come up with trivia, and
- 41:16Speaker 1: then as you're reading the questions, you have a sense
- 41:18Speaker 1: of like who's doing well and who might you know?
- 41:21Speaker 4: Like, as Spencer, I want to host sometime, can I
- 41:23Speaker 4: hope for sure?
- 41:24Speaker 1: It's like it's like you know, selecting your picture based
- 41:27Speaker 1: on who's up at bat right.
- 41:29Speaker 3: That's a good.
- 41:32Speaker 1: This fishing equipment manufacturer got its name when it's Swedish
- 41:37Speaker 1: predecessor ab Or Fabricn, which translates to watch factory LLC
- 41:45Speaker 1: merged with its us. Let's flip the boards over, folks.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Ah.
- 41:56Speaker 1: The The answer was sort of in the question ab
- 42:02Speaker 1: oh uh, let's go around the room, Penn International Hunter, Blank,
- 42:08Speaker 1: Corey Shakespeare, Spencer, Abu, Garcia, Cal's already erased, and Karen's
- 42:16Speaker 1: turned her born over and Gianna says Shimano. Shamano, Shimano,
- 42:20Speaker 1: thank you.
- 42:22Speaker 7: How's that feel? Rand?
- 42:23Speaker 1: It's good, you know, it's good. I'm just I was
- 42:26Speaker 1: getting ahead of myself. I'm all flustered because I did
- 42:28Speaker 1: the thing in the wrong order again, and so.
- 42:30Speaker 5: I appreciate it.
- 42:32Speaker 3: He appreciates me.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Ab Or Fabricin was founded in nineteen twenty one as
- 42:37Speaker 1: a manufacturer of precision time pieces and various instruments, including
- 42:41Speaker 1: taxi cab meters. Two decades later, they began to produce
- 42:45Speaker 1: fishing reels, as the founder's son was an enthusiastic angler.
- 42:49Speaker 1: So that's the Abu. Where do we get Garcia In
- 42:52Speaker 1: the nineteen fifties, the New York based Garcia Corporation began
- 42:55Speaker 1: to import and market Abu reels, including the signature Ambassador
- 42:59Speaker 1: bake Casting, which was introduced at the New York World's
- 43:02Speaker 1: Fair in nineteen fifty four. Abu acquired the Garcia Corporation
- 43:06Speaker 1: in nineteen eighty, at which point the iconic brand name stuck.
- 43:10Speaker 5: Is there still a World's Fair?
- 43:13Speaker 1: That's great Chicago?
- 43:14Speaker 3: Right?
- 43:15Speaker 1: Well that's like, well, it used to rotate every Yeah,
- 43:18Speaker 1: it used to rotate every Now that's I'll be honest,
- 43:20Speaker 1: that's one area of knowledge that completely eludes me. I
- 43:23Speaker 1: find World's Fair is to be very curious.
- 43:26Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 43:26Speaker 6: Start read that book The Death in the White City.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Yeah whatever, yea, I used to live in that neighborhood,
- 43:33Speaker 1: Hide Park. Yeah uh yeah. I actually didn't know. When
- 43:37Speaker 1: I was coming up with this question, I just thought,
- 43:39Speaker 1: I have no idea where Abu Garcia comes from. And
- 43:42Speaker 1: I looked it up, and I thought that was interesting.
- 43:44Speaker 4: My dad's got a couple old ambassadors, good famous reel,
- 43:49Speaker 4: good good.
- 43:51Speaker 5: What does that have to do the Ambassador?
- 43:53Speaker 7: Really?
- 43:54Speaker 1: Yeah? Well, ab or fabric and as we all know, Abu.
- 43:59Speaker 1: That's that's the end, Phil, Can we have a score update?
- 44:03Speaker 1: That's question eight. It's time for an update.
- 44:07Speaker 8: That's some good men. Yeah, it's a way to remember.
- 44:10Speaker 8: We've got Corey, Kouran, Hunter, Call, and Bryan are all
- 44:14Speaker 8: eliminated from the running, but we have Spencer Yannis with
- 44:19Speaker 8: four points apiece, and then in first place with five
- 44:22Speaker 8: is Brody person?
- 44:25Speaker 1: All right, Well, it's anybody's game still with two questions left.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Question nine comes to us in the category of cooking.
- 44:36Speaker 1: This type of pepper, often used as a filling and
- 44:39Speaker 1: stuffed green olives, lends its name to both a loaf
- 44:43Speaker 1: style lunch meat as well as a tangy cheese spread
- 44:46Speaker 1: found on one of Augusta National Golf Club's most iconic
- 44:50Speaker 1: concession items a.
- 44:52Speaker 6: Little earlier in the lineup. Yeah, made us feel a
- 44:54Speaker 6: little better.
- 44:55Speaker 1: You know what. I planned to reorder my questions to
- 44:58Speaker 1: sort of account for the difficult of each, but then uh,
- 45:02Speaker 1: I had to send it to Phil, and I just
- 45:04Speaker 1: ran out of time to do that. Then you didn't. Yeah, yeah,
- 45:08Speaker 1: seems like we've all got it. Why don't we flip
- 45:10Speaker 1: the boards over? You're all right, it's pimento. This was
- 45:18Speaker 1: the only golf related question I could think of. Often
- 45:21Speaker 1: confused with cherry peppers. Pimentos are large, red, heart shaped
- 45:25Speaker 1: chili peppers and the namesake of both pimento loaf and
- 45:28Speaker 1: pimento cheese. According to Taste of the South magazine, the
- 45:32Speaker 1: pimento cheese sandwich at the Masters has become as famous
- 45:36Speaker 1: as the tournament's green trophy blazers. If you'd like to
- 45:39Speaker 1: put a wild spin on this is, watch this one.
- 45:41Speaker 1: If you'd like to put a wild spin on this
- 45:43Speaker 1: Southern staple, you can find Lucas Leaf's recipe for fish
- 45:46Speaker 1: sliders with pimento cheese at the meat eater dot com.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Have you had a pimento cheese sandwich at the Masters?
- 45:53Speaker 2: I have? Yes, delicious.
- 45:55Speaker 3: What's the verdict?
- 45:56Speaker 5: Go, Yeah, they're right, They're great.
- 45:57Speaker 2: I wouldn't call them more famous than the actual Green Jacket.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I think that's a little bit as well the South magazine.
- 46:06Speaker 2: I would think someone who came up with the pimento
- 46:08Speaker 2: cheese sandwich is probably who made that proclamation.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Could be a dollar fifty.
- 46:13Speaker 2: I'd like to know which one's been around longer, the
- 46:16Speaker 2: pimento cheese sandwich or the Green Jacket. The Green Jacket,
- 46:20Speaker 2: Green jacket is nineteen thirties Bobby.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Jones, Pimento cheese sand which got.
- 46:24Speaker 2: To be earlier than that.
- 46:26Speaker 5: I would think Pimeno cheese makes a good burger too.
- 46:29Speaker 8: When I asked you about this Friday, I was totally
- 46:32Speaker 8: was trying to think, Okay, what might he ask?
- 46:34Speaker 7: And I thought, maybe he'll do a birdie is one
- 46:37Speaker 7: under eagle?
- 46:39Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 46:39Speaker 5: Two?
- 46:41Speaker 7: What would hold next? What's next?
- 46:43Speaker 3: It's the bird with the largest wingspan in North America.
- 46:46Speaker 3: This came from the board game.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Oh that brilliant.
- 46:50Speaker 3: We had this question in the board game.
- 46:52Speaker 1: That would have been brilliant.
- 46:53Speaker 7: I don't know the answer.
- 46:55Speaker 3: You would never get one of these y albatros.
- 46:59Speaker 1: David Chang recommends putting the I believe the chicken sandwich
- 47:03Speaker 1: and the mental cheese sandwich together.
- 47:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 47:06Speaker 1: The Master's concessions are legendary.
- 47:08Speaker 5: I'm going are you there's your chief too.
- 47:12Speaker 1: It's true that all of the food is wrapped in
- 47:14Speaker 1: green papers. That's all it's so if it goes on
- 47:17Speaker 1: the ground, the cameras don't pick it up. Looks like
- 47:21Speaker 1: but but I mean the jackets are green.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Too, and that's a bird noises piped in.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Yeah, the theories are wild, Like, have you ever seen
- 47:27Speaker 3: a squirrel on the bird?
- 47:30Speaker 7: A squirrel?
- 47:31Speaker 4: They should pipe in some wild turkey gobbles?
- 47:35Speaker 1: Nice touch? Uh, since everybody got that right. I don't
- 47:41Speaker 1: think our leader board has changed much, Phil, But if
- 47:44Speaker 1: I'm wrong.
- 47:45Speaker 8: Please tell nope. We've got Joanniston Spencer with five, Brody
- 47:48Speaker 8: with six. Brody's got to slip up and they've got
- 47:51Speaker 8: to Oh, that'd be fully together.
- 47:53Speaker 1: That'd be fun. Question ten comes to us in the
- 47:57Speaker 1: category of hunting. Which twentieth entry US president shot his
- 48:02Speaker 1: first deer at the Texas ranch of his running mate
- 48:05Speaker 1: only nine days after his election?
- 48:08Speaker 3: M h, it's a fun question.
- 48:16Speaker 8: That's a good one, Randall, Thanks Phil, running me.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Mhm. A lot of a lot of sort of hms
- 48:33Speaker 1: and haws, maybe some breakthroughs, some revelations and Cal's furrowing
- 48:39Speaker 1: his eyebrows and I don't you know this, Brody, I
- 48:45Speaker 1: feel pretty good. The last board is Krims thinking, do
- 48:52Speaker 1: I feel good? Brody's Brody seems to have been feeling
- 48:56Speaker 1: good and now no longer is certain.
- 48:58Speaker 3: I don't think I know my running mates well enough?
- 49:02Speaker 1: Are mhm? He's doing the thing again?
- 49:06Speaker 4: Is everyone done? I'll make it interesting Let's turn him over.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Let's turn him over. The butcher says John F. Kennedy.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Hunter says w. Corey says Bush. Senior Spencer says Bush.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Brody says JFK. Cal says George W. Corienn says Ronald Reagan.
- 49:29Speaker 1: Jannis says George Bush. There is a correct answer in
- 49:33Speaker 1: the room. It's John F. Kennedy.
- 49:41Speaker 3: Bro Do you know Lyn.
- 49:45Speaker 1: According to William Manchester's nineteen sixty seven book Death of
- 49:49Speaker 1: a President, Lyndon Johnson brought the mount of the Buck
- 49:52Speaker 1: to the White House and insisted it be displayed in
- 49:55Speaker 1: the Oval Office. Now, whether or not JFK took to
- 49:58Speaker 1: the experience remains a point of tension. Relying on interviews
- 50:01Speaker 1: with Jacqueline Kennedy, Manchester maintained that Kennedy was haunted by
- 50:05Speaker 1: the memory of shooting the deer. Upon hearing this version
- 50:08Speaker 1: of events, LBJ was recorded as saying, forcing the poor
- 50:12Speaker 1: man to go deer hunting. Hell, he not only killed
- 50:15Speaker 1: one deer, he insisted on killing a second.
- 50:19Speaker 3: I like that version.
- 50:20Speaker 5: I like that version too.
- 50:21Speaker 1: I do too, I do too. No need for a tiebreaker.
- 50:24Speaker 1: I believe Brody is our champion.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Two point win he had.
- 50:29Speaker 5: Can we hear the tiebreaker?
- 50:32Speaker 7: How many time?
- 50:34Speaker 1: Let's throw it out there.
- 50:35Speaker 7: Did I go to beat?
- 50:39Speaker 5: This was a pretty long episode.
- 50:41Speaker 1: It was good of our one hundred and fifty four
- 50:42Speaker 1: national forests. How many begin with the letter s.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Oh, wow, wow.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Sequoia seqo way off.
- 50:52Speaker 1: I'm looking for a number. The answer is nineteen.
- 51:00Speaker 8: Wow.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Brody, as today's champion, I congret well, you're today's champion.
- 51:04Speaker 1: I just phrased that incorrectly, so it sounded as if
- 51:07Speaker 1: I had won. But as today's champion, you can give
- 51:11Speaker 1: five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of your choosing.
- 51:14Speaker 3: Do you feel like you won?
- 51:16Speaker 1: Rand You know it went better than I thought. Randall,
- 51:19Speaker 1: you did great. It's gonna take a day or two
- 51:21Speaker 1: for me to fully process, and then I'm gonna listen
- 51:23Speaker 1: and read all the time.
- 51:24Speaker 3: You're very entertainment.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Thanks Brody. I'm trying to bring it. Where would you
- 51:31Speaker 1: like the money to go to?
- 51:32Speaker 8: Brody?
- 51:33Speaker 4: We just got off a suite today Youth Hunt Montana
- 51:37Speaker 4: Youth Hunt for mule Deer.
- 51:39Speaker 1: So we're gonna do the Mule Deer Foundation timely wonderful, Yes,
- 51:44Speaker 1: the Meal Deer Foundation. Thanks you. I assume Spencer. It
- 51:49Speaker 1: says here in my notes now that I'm supposed to
- 51:52Speaker 1: throw it to you to plug the tournament which comes
- 51:55Speaker 1: next week.
- 51:56Speaker 3: Next week, it's my favorite stretch of the year. We
- 51:58Speaker 3: have four episode. It's the Meet Eater Trivia Tournament. We're
- 52:02Speaker 3: going to crown a champion of meat Eater Trivia for
- 52:04Speaker 3: twenty twenty three. We start with twenty players. By the
- 52:07Speaker 3: end of it, we have one person who gets their
- 52:11Speaker 3: name on the plaque that's coming up. We have two
- 52:13Speaker 3: qualifying episodes followed by two championship episodes. The championship is
- 52:18Speaker 3: a two part episode. I'm very excited. Please go listen.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Fantastic, Thanks Gang, this was fun.
- 52:25Speaker 3: Brandon, very good you
