- 0:00[SPEAKER_02]: According to Wonder Within, the path to permission is not an easy one.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's rocky, complicated, and cold, and can even be confusing, because we have to unlearn it on tangles.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome to the Beat till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor, and fit this business coach.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_02]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_02]: My friends, action brings clarity, and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_02]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_02]: Hello, the available welcome back to our series on permission on our Tuesday episode.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: If you missed it, we were talking about like, what is asking for permission?
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: Look like where's it come from?
- 1:03[SPEAKER_02]: Why do we do this?
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: I should have some stories.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_02]: Some of you had sent me some great stories of your own.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_02]: I love that you're loving that I'm doing this whole episode on this.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: And please keep some of your questions in, your top at request, and be a pod.com such questions.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_02]: You can also send your wins in there as well.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe have a win that you stopped asking for a mission.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'd love to know that.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: But be a pod.com such questions is where you can send in all those things.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: I'm hopeful to have some more different topics.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_02]: We could do a couple episodes on.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: Just to kind of go deeper on some of these things I'm hearing, our amazing guests give us be it action items on.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, don't ask for a mission, just do it.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, what the fact that, like you mean, just do it.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: easy, easy for them to say.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: They weren't raised to put other people's needs before they're out.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: They weren't raised to go like to not seek approval from others.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: They weren't raised to not like look crazy, right?
- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: So they aren't constantly hearing just different things where people go, oh, we believe she did that.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: She's so greedy.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, they gave, they gave the team a locker room on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: Now they went on Saturdays too.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like, those are things we pick up
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: when we're children and teenagers and young adults, we pick up on these things where people are saying things, mostly about women about when they step outside those traditional roles, when they do something against the grain.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying you have to go be a cancer grain.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: What I am saying is, you can't be it till you see it if you're waiting for someone else's permission to start being it.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: You have to give it to yourself.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: But how do we do that?
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: So let me go to my notes.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_02]: And in my research, I have sources.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: So we put those in the show notes as well.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: There's some really great reading and psychology today and all these different things.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: So it's pretty great.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so now we know we are often conditioned as per permission and in the last of us, what I do want to highlight, we did talk about the permission gap.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: We also talked about the signs of closets.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: So the gap is basically the gap between like what we want and what we think people's needs are and the putting their needs in front of our own.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: And so we're kind of always in the negative for what we need.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: And then we're asking for permission to give ourselves with those needs are.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: So.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: According to Wonder Within, the path to permission is not an easy one.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's rocky, complicated, and cold, and can even be confusing because we have to unlearn an untangle.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: So on Tuesday, I challenge you.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: I gave you a bunch of different signs, feelings, examples of what permission
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: looks like, as the information looks like, and so hopefully, I'm able to explore that.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: And now, means we have to unlearn an entangle.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: If you listen to the series that came out, starting in December of 2025, we do a whole habit series.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about in one of the episodes all about unraveling a bad habit.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: And that is an air quotes.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_02]: And it's really, truly unraveling.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's not breaking it.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: I was very specific on that because we do have to unravel.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: We have to understand what's the prompt.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I will say this.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: Unraveling, untangling the habit of asking for permission is advanced habit making, because you have to be aware of yourself asking for permission.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's not the same as I want to be able to habit of running around the block in the morning.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: That is very tangible.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's easier for your brain to go, oh, I want to run around the block this morning.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_02]: Versus.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: Catching yourself, asking for permission or feeling the need to ask for permission because that's a psychological habit, and you'll have to have that self-awareness.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: So I just want to say, it might take longer than you think.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but definitely check out that episode.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: So permission to become, to be until you see it, might be the biggest work that we have to do.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I believe.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: After doing those three, so I'm like, oh my god, I feel like I need a permission slip expert.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: It may include working with a trauma informed therapist, a somatic worker, so even with all the suggestions that I'm about to give you.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_02]: I want you to understand that if you need extra support, that is okay.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, it is really, really okay.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I need you to know that it's okay, and you're not asking for permission when you hire an expert in trauma or somatic work or therapy of any kind, because that's actually saying, hi, I need help.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's not you asking for permission, right?
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, so I told you in the last episode about when I wanted to, what I thought about becoming a Pilis instructor, like, as I had this thing, this thought, and I recognized now that I was kind of asking for permission to belong, for permission to fit into the Pilis role, because to be honest at the time, there was not Pilis instructors who did not discover Pilis from dancing.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: So that felt so weird.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_02]: Also, I knew I couldn't afford the comprehensive training.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_02]: So I was going to start the mat training and then say that my money for comprehensive training, which I did a year later.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I remember thinking, like, oh my God, maybe I can't do it because I can't do the whole thing at the same time.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: And so I do or recall asking for permission.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: I remember being an vintage and basically just saying, well, Tommy, what to do, I'll just do whatever you want me to do, which is just me asking for permission so that I can do be the thing that belongs because we all want to belong.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes we're just like, hey, just how do I be perfect.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: So I can not get kicked out of the script because we just want to belong.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: But really, and what they challenge me with is like, oh, no, we're not going to tell you what to do.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to figure you've got to feel what you need to do.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: Got to be intuitive.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's got to be something that you understand for your body.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_02]: And oh, my God, that is permission from them to be in my body.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: Which is not something any teacher had given me.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: All the teachers before had been like, do it like this.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: You do it like this and just tell me what to do.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: And that was kind of my whole life, right?
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: Having perfection overachiever.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: Lots of people telling me the right thing to do and just following the checklist and following the path.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: I had a whole adult life, thank God for Pilates and the curiosity that gave me start going, oh, look at me, like not checking a box here, with a smile in my face.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: So think about one thing that you have been wanting.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_02]: Could be a small as a food craving for today's lunch or as big as an idea you want to take action on.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: So you're thinking about it, got in your head?
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: What is keeping you from taking the next step?
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: How much permission do you feel you have or don't have?
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Who decides how much permission you do or don't have?
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: Is it possible that they are irrelevant?
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: It my case, the people that I thought I needed permission from, was the world of Pilates, they didn't even know me.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: They're so irrelevant, they didn't even know me.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_02]: I was giving so much power to a bunch of people.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't even know existed.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, can you give yourself permission?
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: Take a deep breath.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: Right, a deep breath.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: If you've listened episode 400 about upper limiting, sometimes we get outside of our comfort zone.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: And then, wild things come through worried.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_02]: Do you feel some worry right now?
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: Worries is a side of upper limiting to pull you back into your comfort zone, right?
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: Self-deprecating can be.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'll just want to let go of those questions one more time.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: So what's something you want to be taking action on or wanting or desiring?
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: No matter how small it is.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so what's keeping you from taking that step or trying that thing or ordering that thing?
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: How much permission do you feel you need?
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: You have or don't have for that.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: Who decides how much permission you do or don't have?
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: And is it possible that they are relevant?
- 8:21[SPEAKER_02]: So, Renee Brown gives herself permission slips.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's actually in her book, Dare, to lead.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_02]: She said, I give myself permission slips, and they say, I give myself permission to blank.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: So, to make mistakes, to rest.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: I love this.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think this is a really great way to close that gap and to get rid of the habit of asking permission is just to give, like, literally write yourself permission slips.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: So, if you remember, my dear friend, Nicole, whose last name was escaping me, sorry, team.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: She didn't do it this time.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my God, why is it that coming up?
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: Anyways, she talked about in the first episode about all the different posted notes that she put around her house affirmations and then she take them down because people are coming over because she didn't want any single person to be able to give her any nagging thing that would remove the permission she'd given herself.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you need to put little permission slips everywhere.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to try a new outfit today.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to make a mistake.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to go a different round.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to ask that person for that thing.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to rest.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to turn off my phone.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to not respond.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: So use clear and powerful language to empower yourself.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's really, really important.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: Affirmations are really helpful.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: So this will start kind of the same way.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to be successful.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to be authentic.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: I give myself permission to pursue my dreams, right?
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: So affirmations can also be helpful and also going with what per day Brown's mission subs are.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: You can do a meditation.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_02]: So this meditation's really easy one.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_02]: You can take your hands, put them on your heart, close your eyes and say, I've got this.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: All right, hands on the heart, eyes closed.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: You've got this beautiful.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: It's one of Friday's episodes.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: I give you as an affirmation.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_02]: I say it three times.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm hoping you're saying it out love with me.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm giving you a second to do that.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: I want you to give yourself permission to have that affirmation to be.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_02]: It tells you to get.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: And of course,
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: Journaling.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: Journaling is always a great thing.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_02]: Look, you be surprised what comes out of your hat when you journal, I like rewriting.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: If you haven't done the arc of the artist's way, it's 12 weeks of journaling prompts and really will help you peel back the onion of a wire asking for permission in the first place.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: Especially if you go into the book with that in mind, you're gonna start to like answer those questions with those thoughts and it's gonna give you a whole host of information, it's such a great.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_02]: thing to do, you can do it annually, you can do it more often than once, but it's really, really great.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: I highly recommend it.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so tips for cultivating self-promotion.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: So, here are some other tips and tools you can use.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: So, except 100% responsibility.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: This is very difficult for some people because that means responsibility for your own mistakes as well.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: But, acknowledge that you are responsible for your own life actions and responses.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: This shifts you from a victim mindset to one of empowerment, removing the blame, shame, and guilt game.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_02]: So, what happens when you accept responsibility?
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you can't ask information for people.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: It also means you can't say, oh, my kids wouldn't let me do pullize today.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: going to accept 100% responsibility, right?
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: Radical responsibility.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_02]: Another thing, let go of the need for external approval.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: Recognize that relying on others for validation can prevent you from trusting your own judgment.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's really, really true.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_02]: I got a medical diagnosis that isn't bad.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: Don't forget, but it's, it's not great either.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm a verbal processor.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: So I like to talk about it.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: to kind of like understand how I'm feeling and it's interesting like what I talked about with like some people in my life or like whatever you need you can recover here you could do this thing rather it's like so you're thinking about doing this like it wasn't I wasn't asking for permission I was just like talking about it right and then I had another friend as sharing it with and they were always talking me out of the thing I'm about going with fuck
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: Right, so I made me go, ugh, because I was a little annoyed that she wasn't like, like, everybody else, but then I was like, wait, why don't I care of what she thinks.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: Right, so it's this interesting thing.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: There's like, just start to recognize when you're relying on the validations of other people in that, and then they're lack of validation that causes you to think differently now.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, it's okay that she has me think differently.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: It really made me go back and and kind of research what she was saying and making sure that like I almost got more secure in my decision.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_02]: because of it.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: So it's also fine to talk things out, but just notice or maybe what she said could have got me to go, oh, maybe I don't need to do that.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: Those are all fine things, but just it's as as a very different thing from getting feedback versus validation.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: There are two different things.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: Embrace imperfection and mistakes.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: So give yourself permission to be human, to be wrong, and to learn from what does it work.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: Doing failures as lessons not torture is crucial for growth.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is really, really important.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: In my journey, I'm just like, you can remember covering perfectionist and overachiever is really helped me to not need permission because I'm not trying to be perfect to the thing and I'm allowing myself to,
- 13:08[SPEAKER_02]: learn and ask questions and be a human being who doesn't fail, but actually learns and then makes adjustments along the way.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of like a route, right?
- 13:18[SPEAKER_02]: When you're driving in the map is like, oh, here, and then it's like, oh, we found a faster route.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't go, oh, map quest.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: You're an asshole.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_02]: You fucked up the last one.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: No, you just go, wow, thanks for getting better of what you do.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_02]: You're just like, look at this app.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's so great.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like, we don't go, oh my god,
- 13:38[SPEAKER_02]: set boundaries.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: It is vital to give yourself a mission to say no to things that don't serve you even if it makes others uncomfortable.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: This protects your time and energy for what truly matters to you.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: I request you, but on the pod, we were talking the other day about like when people invite us to different things like we ask ourselves, is this more or is it better?
- 13:55[SPEAKER_02]: But more is it better?
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: And if it's just more, then it's probably no.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's better.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: Gonna make my impact better.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: Gonna make me a better person.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I'm looking to it.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, listen to your own intuition.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_02]: So reconnect with your inner voice and trust your gut feelings.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: The more exercise permission muscle, the latter and clearer becomes I am going to have a whole series on how to listen to your inner voice.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm not going to go deeper on that that will become it up in a few weeks.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, be curious, not judgmental.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: So approach your feelings and experiences with curiosity rather than fear or judgment, label your emotions to understand them better, which is a gateway to healing and growth.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: Prioritize self-care and rest.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, hi.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: Hello.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: We give yourself permission to rest, or recharge, and enjoy life without guilt, integrating self-care rituals, and to your daily routine helps make it a habit.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_02]: Listen to the habit series, so you have even better chance of doing that, but my goodness, you've got to prioritize yourself care, so you get rid of that permission gap.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not that I'm like, you're not going to help other people, or you're not going to care about them.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_02]: It's just that, like, you can't care about them before your own air mask is on first.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: Hello.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_02]: Allow yourself to pivot.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: recognize that personal growth involves change.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_02]: Give yourself permission to change your mind, career, or life direction if an old path no longer aligns with your evolving self.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, heck, you might have to ask your permission to do something and someone talked to you out of it, the thing you want to do, and now you're doing the thing that they gave you permission to do.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: So you're probably going to have to evolve, pivot, change things.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I would say nice to yourself, have grace and space, recognizing that, because my goodness, everything you learn on that path is what's going to make you even better on the path that you're on now.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: So please be kind.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: Another way to give yourself a mission is what's the cost of your inaction.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: What is the cost of doing nothing?
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: What is the cost of not doing the thing you want to do?
- 15:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to dive deeper into that in the next week's episode with Dr. Corey, so definitely be watching that for that interview because I promise you it's going to be so good, but I was like, oh my god, yes, and I'm so glad that we talked about that in her episode and keep in mind after years of second guessing for years of asking permission for permission, it can be hard to trust yourself and believe they've got this.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: So consider this permission to the you, the view, the view till you see it, no one but you defines the scope of what's possible and no one but you can dare to believe that you can be it till you see it.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: No one but you can define the scope of what's possible and no one but you can dare to believe that you can be it till you see it.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: I promise you that you are amazing.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: You don't need my permission to be it till you see it, but you might need my reminder that you can and I hope each and every week you say that to yourself as well.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_02]: All right, babe.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_02]: Until next time, get to you see it.
