- 0:23chickens. Hey everybody.
- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today I want to Little exercise with you and it
- 0:32involves you grabbing maybe a pen and paper.
- 0:35Even if you're driving, and you're doing this, like, do the
- 0:37exercise part after, but you can think about it while you're
- 0:39driving, but it's going to give you some clarity on some things
- 0:42in your life. So let's start off with.
- 0:45You've got a cruise ship, you're going to go on this amazing
- 0:48cruise ship. It's going to be the best Crews
- 0:51of your entire life. You're going to have the most
- 0:54fun you've ever had. It's going to be the kind of
- 0:56fun. You like to have whatever that
- 0:58might be. It's going to have all the Food
- 1:01the parties, the rest, whatever your version of fun is that's
- 1:05what this boat is going to provide and you get to bring 10
- 1:10people with you. Now, you might be saying, I
- 1:12don't, there aren't 10 people that I would want to bring and
- 1:14I'd already be laughing because I'd be saying the same thing.
- 1:16However, I would say whatever your number is, I'm giving you
- 1:2010 as an example, because most people can say, okay, these are
- 1:24good solid ten people in my life, whether their close
- 1:28family, close friends, acquaintances, Just someone you
- 1:31would not want to know that would be on that boat with you
- 1:34and I want you to make that list, okay?
- 1:36Get that list down, figure out, who would that be?
- 1:38Who are those people that you would want to bring?
- 1:40And if you need to make more than 10, go ahead and do it.
- 1:43Don't stress out about that hard number of 10.
- 1:45Okay, now once you have that done, I want you to start
- 1:50thinking about the next boat ride that I'm going to put you
- 1:52on, is the worst. It's like the Gilligan's Island
- 1:56boat ride for all of you, who know what that is.
- 1:59It's going to be awful. Going to encounter the worst
- 2:02sees, you're going to be sick to your stomach.
- 2:04You're going to have all kinds of problems.
- 2:06You are going to have food shortages, you're going to have
- 2:09everything that you could possibly imagine.
- 2:11Go wrong on this boat. Go wrong on this boat, who are
- 2:15your 10 people that you would want to take with you on that
- 2:18ride and no, it's not about torturing them.
- 2:21No, it's not about. Hey I want you to suffer while I
- 2:24suffer. This is about thinking of it in
- 2:27terms of. Who would you want to be
- 2:28spending your time with if you were Suck on this boat.
- 2:31Or if you're truly like the Gilligan's Island ride, stuck on
- 2:34an island where you can't get off.
- 2:36So who would those people be? Who are those 10 people that you
- 2:39would want to bring with you and write them all down.
- 2:42So you have an idea of who they are.
- 2:45Now, here's the tricky part of this exercise, when you have
- 2:48both of those done. The job is to sit and
- 2:51cross-reference, who is on both lists.
- 2:54Because those people, those are your core support system in
- 2:58life. Those people are.
- 3:00A core support system, meaning you can take them anywhere, you
- 3:04want to go, and they're going to be there for you, no matter
- 3:08what. Now here's the interesting part
- 3:10of this exercise. There are not a lot of people on
- 3:14the same list for most, most of us out there, if you have your
- 3:1910 that can cross reference to both lists, I love that.
- 3:23I mean I don't have that. So I will tell you most people
- 3:29that I have ever worked with or trained with or done these
- 3:33exercises with. Do not have the same people on
- 3:36both lists and we often ask ourselves, why is that?
- 3:39Why is it that we don't have those people on you know, both
- 3:42of List because we want to have people on both of our lists.
- 3:45But the reality is that every every person has a role in our
- 3:50lives. Every everybody who comes in
- 3:52just like we have roles in other people's lives and we might be
- 3:55the person that they go to in crisis, but we would not be the
- 3:57person that they would want to take on their Fun Ship.
- 4:00And that, I mean, that was my mother.
- 4:01Honestly, I love my mother so much.
- 4:04I miss my mother every day, but my mother was the person who
- 4:07fell asleep in Disney World. When I took her, she complained
- 4:10that she didn't see Winnie, the Pooh enough.
- 4:12Did she Have happy moments. Sure.
- 4:14But 80% of that trip she found problems.
- 4:17It was too hot. There was too much walking.
- 4:19The food wasn't what she liked. Winnie, the Pooh wasn't around
- 4:23enough. They didn't make enough attempt
- 4:25to let you see the characters enough.
- 4:28You name it and we were in supposedly the happiest place on
- 4:31the planet. And this is what happened and it
- 4:35wasn't just that one trip. She went with a friend on a trip
- 4:38and that trip ended up being a twin on a cruise and funny.
- 4:42I think for this exercise and they went to Mexico and lo and
- 4:46behold she was complaining about the trip to Mexico and that it
- 4:50was the ship was too much to walk around.
- 4:54There were too many choices with food.
- 4:56I mean, too many choices with food.
- 4:58She found the way to complain about that and her friend and I
- 5:00were laughing about it. But, you know, here's the,
- 5:03here's the interesting part of this.
- 5:04Once you start to realize who's on both lists, you can start to
- 5:08appreciate them on different levels because they truly, Uli
- 5:12are gifts my friends. When you can find somebody that
- 5:15is on both of those lists. Oh my gosh.
- 5:19And I will say, my husband is that person that's on both,
- 5:23those lists for me, without question I have been in Dire
- 5:26Straits of situations with him, when, you know, we got into
- 5:30trouble kayaking and a fast-moving Blackwater swamp.
- 5:33And I've never seen a human being as calm and as directive
- 5:39and as cool as the whole thing could have been It is in the
- 5:43water. Moving, trying to save our son,
- 5:45holding him up and hanging onto a kayak and still not yelling no
- 5:49screaming calm. As can be directing me what to
- 5:51do and he's also the coolest person to go on vacation with
- 5:56because wherever we go we always have fun.
- 5:58You know, walking Amsterdam and realizing that we had been out
- 6:02walking for 14 hours and we didn't realize it because of the
- 6:06lighting and how the light wasn't going down and we laughed
- 6:08and had such a great time about it and like why are we so tired?
- 6:12Well, because We had so much fun and didn't even realize the time
- 6:15he's my person that's on both. And I mean, when you find those
- 6:22people, you hang onto them and you find ways to give them Grace
- 6:27when they need it. And that's what this is all
- 6:29about, is that once you recognize where these people are
- 6:33in your life and how they show up and how you show up with
- 6:36them, you know the opposite of this is are you on someone's
- 6:39cruise ship of fun and also on Gilligan's Island boat or are
- 6:44you just showing up on one of those?
- 6:46It's a great way for us to be in that exercise of saying.
- 6:49Well, am I showing up as a, you know, both ships person or am I
- 6:54showing up just as a crisis ship and that's no fun at all.
- 6:59So take the inventory figure out who are your people and figure
- 7:03out? Are you being the Dual person
- 7:06for somebody or you just being, you know, that one one-sided
- 7:10person that can't be there for? Somebody else.
- 7:13And then figure out, is that something you really want?
- 7:15Are you okay with that or do you want to shift it?
- 7:18So, I will see you guys tomorrow.
- 7:20Have fun taking your cruise. Bye.
