Transcript
- 0:17Speaker 1: Well, hi, this is Fred. Since Sam has been going on,
- 0:24Speaker 1: I think we released our first album in twenty sixteen.
- 0:28Speaker 1: This is our third album that's about to come out
- 0:31Speaker 1: the eighth of August, and I guess people call us
- 0:35Speaker 1: death metal or black and death metal, so that's what
- 0:38Speaker 1: we are. I guess, why is it, old friend?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us today.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Yeah, well, thank you for having me my pleasure.
- 0:47Speaker 2: So as you say, since sane, but release your third
- 0:49Speaker 2: album in Devastation on August the eighth, So how are
- 0:52Speaker 2: you feeling.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Great? We've been working on the album for quite a
- 0:57Speaker 1: while now because the previous one, Repultion for You Humanity,
- 1:02Speaker 1: came out in twenty eighteen and a lot happened in
- 1:07Speaker 1: the meantime, so it's been a while. But we already
- 1:11Speaker 1: released a single like a few weeks ago, and it's
- 1:14Speaker 1: good to see that the reaction has been good and
- 1:17Speaker 1: throughout all the years, like it seems like people didn't
- 1:19Speaker 1: forget about us. I could see on the streaming platforms
- 1:24Speaker 1: that people kept on, you know, listening to our music.
- 1:26Speaker 1: So it's good.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Oh, so can you tell us a bit more about
- 1:30Speaker 2: the album from a musical point of view and what
- 1:32Speaker 2: you were a chalent for with this one.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I guess it's always hard to talk about your own music,
- 1:41Speaker 1: especially after spending so much time on it, going back
- 1:45Speaker 1: and forth. I think, I don't really I don't see
- 1:48Speaker 1: clear yet. I have no idea. I think like the
- 1:53Speaker 1: first album was a love letter to death metal, like
- 1:56Speaker 1: paying tribute to the genre. The second album was anger
- 2:00Speaker 1: really and incorporated more like you know. It had more
- 2:05Speaker 1: elements of I mean, looking back, elements of like Pantera,
- 2:10Speaker 1: you know, a bit more groove and whatnot. And for
- 2:13Speaker 1: this one, I started writing a good portion of the
- 2:17Speaker 1: music I started writing in twenty nineteen, and there was
- 2:22Speaker 1: no There was no agenda in the sense that I
- 2:25Speaker 1: just wanted to write music without oh it has to
- 2:29Speaker 1: be like this or like that, or if I want
- 2:31Speaker 1: to have like clean vocals, let's go for it and whatnot.
- 2:34Speaker 1: There was no limitations still within the you know, knowing
- 2:39Speaker 1: who was in the band. So that means like it
- 2:42Speaker 1: was going to be like sort of like the bass
- 2:44Speaker 1: would be like the recipe, the bass would be like
- 2:47Speaker 1: death metal. But then add whatever I wanted to because
- 2:52Speaker 1: because why not. And then a lot of like I said,
- 2:56Speaker 1: a lot happened in the meantimes, which is why it
- 2:58Speaker 1: took a lot and a lot of time to finish
- 3:02Speaker 1: the album and buy a lot. I mean me joining
- 3:06Speaker 1: Creator and then losing my father, and then losing our
- 3:10Speaker 1: drummer joege Ordison and going on tour with Creator, which
- 3:15Speaker 1: means like you know a lot of yeah, going away
- 3:19Speaker 1: and coming back and whatnot, and so yeah, it's been
- 3:22Speaker 1: it's been a long it's been a long road. Now.
- 3:28Speaker 2: The Pressure says that the album explores new sonic territory
- 3:32Speaker 2: for the band.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Would you agree with that? Yeah, I suppose so. Like
- 3:37Speaker 1: I said, we have clean vocals, it has like a
- 3:42Speaker 1: lot of melodies I've been experienced, I mean experimenting that
- 3:48Speaker 1: there's a citar, cillo, a little bit here and there.
- 3:52Speaker 1: It's still it's still death metal. It's still very aggressive,
- 3:55Speaker 1: but it's also catchy, straightforward that times sometimes a bit
- 4:01Speaker 1: more intricate and proggy. I don't know, it feels like
- 4:06Speaker 1: it feels like it's insanem. Well, I mean, since Santam's
- 4:09Speaker 1: always been insanem but it's more than ever in a
- 4:13Speaker 1: sense that, like I was saying before, there's no limitation,
- 4:17Speaker 1: so therefore it's more personal and I think like we
- 4:21Speaker 1: found our style possibly, I guess, I hope.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Yeah. You mentioned the citar in the Challow, which two
- 4:30Speaker 2: instruments not normally associated with your brand of metal at all.
- 4:33Speaker 2: So it was it hard to integrate them into the
- 4:36Speaker 2: songs and make them sound like they belonged.
- 4:39Speaker 1: No, it wasn't because that's see that that's not now
- 4:42Speaker 1: how it worked. It wasn't like, fuck, we need to
- 4:44Speaker 1: have chillo, so how could we make it work. It
- 4:47Speaker 1: was more like a case of that part feels like
- 4:50Speaker 1: it requires chillo, let's go for it. So it all
- 4:53Speaker 1: came very naturally. None none of it has been forced
- 4:56Speaker 1: or none of it the only thing that has been
- 4:59Speaker 1: for In a way, it's like me coming back to
- 5:03Speaker 1: writing music after losing my father and and then Joey.
- 5:07Speaker 1: It's just left me very empty emotionally and and with
- 5:14Speaker 1: no inspiration and you know, and then you have to
- 5:17Speaker 1: get back on it because life carries on. So that
- 5:20Speaker 1: that was the only time I was like sort of
- 5:22Speaker 1: forcing myself, just like God, you know, we wanted to
- 5:25Speaker 1: dedicate the album to them, and it was just like, okay,
- 5:27Speaker 1: let's go. Let's so that's the only thing it's not
- 5:29Speaker 1: forcing because it's you know, it's always coming naturally. You
- 5:32Speaker 1: can't really force it. But but no, but for the
- 5:37Speaker 1: sunning elements, I've never tried like there was no you know,
- 5:41Speaker 1: like a list of like things we need to include. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly,
- 5:46Speaker 1: just all right, okay, cillo done, Okay, And what's that?
- 5:49Speaker 1: It was more like a case of it felt it
- 5:52Speaker 1: all flew naturally in that sense.
- 5:56Speaker 2: You imagine. It's a couple of times. Man, I don't
- 5:58Speaker 2: want to dwell on this line of question pretty much,
- 6:00Speaker 2: but the album is deeply personal for yourself and for
- 6:03Speaker 2: lots of Jerry and lots of your father. So was
- 6:06Speaker 2: it was it any more difficult for you to write
- 6:08Speaker 2: the lyrics?
- 6:09Speaker 1: It is? Yeah, in the sense that I delegated. I've
- 6:13Speaker 1: I've asked people, so you know, I played a band
- 6:16Speaker 1: called loud Blast from France as well as the death
- 6:20Speaker 1: metal and we've we've been working with the lyricist Natan
- 6:24Speaker 1: and Ell, and I really enjoyed his work and his style.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And when it came when the time came to write
- 6:34Speaker 1: lyrics for Sincena, I felt like like I had like
- 6:38Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, I felt pretty empty, and uh,
- 6:43Speaker 1: I thought why not work with him? Because he's he's
- 6:47Speaker 1: very talented and and so I was giving him my
- 6:51Speaker 1: bullet points or what I was trying to express. Uh,
- 6:56Speaker 1: And that's how it worked. And uh. And then once
- 6:59Speaker 1: he would like start with like a basic scenario, so
- 7:03Speaker 1: they say, then I could just like, you know, go
- 7:06Speaker 1: back and forth with him and whatnot. But that's that's
- 7:09Speaker 1: why we used the different people this time around, because
- 7:12Speaker 1: also on the first two albums, I was writing the
- 7:16Speaker 1: majority of lyrics, and I just, yeah, this is not
- 7:19Speaker 1: you know, it's good sometimes to delegate and have someone
- 7:23Speaker 1: that's good at it. So and the the the majority
- 7:28Speaker 1: of the songs on the album are not dealing with
- 7:31Speaker 1: with loss and grief and the death of people I love.
- 7:35Speaker 1: In fact, there's only one song, uh, and that song
- 7:38Speaker 1: is less Goodbye It have Baad, Have not baad That
- 7:43Speaker 1: one deals with the subject and still without being very specific,
- 7:48Speaker 1: because there's there wouldn't be any proper words, you know,
- 7:52Speaker 1: to describe the the specific situation. It's more like a
- 7:56Speaker 1: general sense of how you feel, you know, a song
- 8:00Speaker 1: about like, yeah, grief and losing someone and the people
- 8:03Speaker 1: that stay there, people that stay behind.
- 8:07Speaker 2: How have you playing songs while that live bran like
- 8:09Speaker 2: I don't have to get really emotional.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we haven't done that yet, so I will.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I will let you know in a few in a
- 8:17Speaker 1: few months when we do that, if we do that,
- 8:20Speaker 1: But I think I think we'll play that song live.
- 8:23Speaker 1: And you know, we've so we've done a video for it,
- 8:27Speaker 1: and I can tell you as much that already doing
- 8:29Speaker 1: the video was emotional, and it's just you know, when
- 8:32Speaker 1: you do the video, you sort of like your mime
- 8:34Speaker 1: and you try to look good. And even that was
- 8:36Speaker 1: just like h And also doing all these interviews and
- 8:39Speaker 1: talking about you know, my father and and Joey and
- 8:43Speaker 1: also the album is also dedicated to Fred, who was
- 8:46Speaker 1: our light technician. Uh, and you also it passed away
- 8:53Speaker 1: a year ago. And yeah, when I started to do
- 8:56Speaker 1: these interviews, of course I knew that we would be
- 8:59Speaker 1: talking about it that because the album is dedicated to them.
- 9:03Speaker 1: But man, that's heavy. You know. I've been mentioning Heavy
- 9:06Speaker 1: Quit a few times, not because it's the name of
- 9:08Speaker 1: the magazine, but really because it is. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 1: but it's because it is heavy and and uh, you know,
- 9:14Speaker 1: at the same time, it's sort of a therapy. So
- 9:17Speaker 1: I guess if we play we end up playing that
- 9:19Speaker 1: song live, which I think we will. It would be
- 9:22Speaker 1: a therapeutic every night, and I guess that's a good thing.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I hope nice.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Now, don't fully You've released the title track, which is
- 9:32Speaker 2: in Devastation as your single, So why should is that
- 9:35Speaker 2: song introduced the world to this new body of music?
- 9:39Speaker 1: Well, I guess it was serving several purposes at once. First,
- 9:44Speaker 1: it's the title of the album, so it's good, like, hey,
- 9:46Speaker 1: there you go. But h but I guess it's a
- 9:51Speaker 1: good it's a good well picture of like sonic picture
- 9:58Speaker 1: of what the band is because the song is like
- 10:02Speaker 1: pretty straightforwards in your face it. I think it embodies
- 10:08Speaker 1: what we sound like nowadays. So it's like, like I said,
- 10:11Speaker 1: it's I think it's I think it's catchy. I think
- 10:15Speaker 1: it's straightforward and just like I think it's a great
- 10:19Speaker 1: song that I actually actually do and yeah, I know,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and like the format is correct, it has like different riffs,
- 10:27Speaker 1: like it has a long solo and it's just I
- 10:31Speaker 1: don't know. It felt to me, it felt like it
- 10:33Speaker 1: was like the perfect first song to show what's insanem
- 10:39Speaker 1: is in twenty twenty five, and hopefully people it seems like,
- 10:43Speaker 1: like I said, like the reaction has been good so far,
- 10:45Speaker 1: so I guess I guess it was right.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Speaking of Insane in twenty twenty five, well, say, got
- 10:53Speaker 2: yourself any drummer on this album by the name of
- 10:55Speaker 2: Andre Joys, So introduces to him and tell him what
- 10:58Speaker 2: he brings, dannem he.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Brings nothing, Now I'm kidding. Uh no, no, yeah, I
- 11:06Speaker 1: know that you I know that you know him, and
- 11:08Speaker 1: I know he's gonna read or listen to this. So
- 11:10Speaker 1: that's why I just tried to yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no, no, no.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So Joys he has been he's been a friend of
- 11:20Speaker 1: mine for a long time. But also he was the
- 11:23Speaker 1: drum tech of Sinceanam, which means like he was with Joey.
- 11:27Speaker 1: You know, he spent a lot of time with Joey
- 11:29Speaker 1: and he's he's part of the family. So when after
- 11:34Speaker 1: Joey passed away, and then when me and the band
- 11:38Speaker 1: talked about you know, carrying on and dedicated the album
- 11:42Speaker 1: and you know, so we need a new drummer, and
- 11:46Speaker 1: he became clear that keeping someone that was already in
- 11:49Speaker 1: the family it was the way to go, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 1: like it just you know, it feels it felt right,
- 11:54Speaker 1: and and that's why Joyce was the natural choice. And
- 12:01Speaker 1: he's an amazing drummer and and like I said, first
- 12:04Speaker 1: and foremost part of the family. And he you know,
- 12:07Speaker 1: he was you know with Joey all the time on
- 12:11Speaker 1: the tour we did and spending a lot of time
- 12:14Speaker 1: with him, you know, getting to know him. He was
- 12:17Speaker 1: also Joey Joyce was also coming on stage when we
- 12:22Speaker 1: were playing the song Final Results, he was doing percussions
- 12:26Speaker 1: on stage. So uh so yeah, I mean so to us,
- 12:31Speaker 1: it made perfect sense. And it was better than getting
- 12:36Speaker 1: someone like from outside and like with another big name
- 12:39Speaker 1: and whatnot. And you know, so yeah, we we we
- 12:44Speaker 1: chose him and he accepted and this is great, fantastic now.
- 12:50Speaker 2: But ever radio album also comes a relentless touring schedule. Mate,
- 12:53Speaker 2: so what shows you got coming up?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Well, it's not relentless. I mean, I'm very busy with
- 13:02Speaker 1: with creator as I mentioned before. So uh, I only
- 13:09Speaker 1: figured out that I would be free in October just
- 13:12Speaker 1: like a few months ago because you know, like there's
- 13:15Speaker 1: like it's a very busy schedule. So now when you
- 13:17Speaker 1: book a tour, you need to know your availability, like well,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know in advance so now being away for seven
- 13:27Speaker 1: years and then contactic promoters and saying, oh, we were
- 13:32Speaker 1: coming back. We have a new drummer you haven't heard of,
- 13:35Speaker 1: and we have songs that you haven't heard of, and
- 13:37Speaker 1: the album's coming out, but we can't tell you anything
- 13:40Speaker 1: about it. How about we book a show. It's not
- 13:43Speaker 1: it's not that easy. Yeah, I mean, yeah, yeah, too easy.
- 13:49Speaker 1: But uh but no, so we've so we we're gonna
- 13:53Speaker 1: We're gonna start with a few shows in Europe in October. Uh.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I think so far it looks like I could be
- 14:02Speaker 1: free in January, which means that if that's the case,
- 14:05Speaker 1: we would love to come and see you guys, you know,
- 14:08Speaker 1: to do Asia, Australia and whatnot. That would be January.
- 14:13Speaker 1: But that's right now. We're still like up in the
- 14:17Speaker 1: air and with like question marks flying around and whatnot.
- 14:20Speaker 1: But we're working on it. And first, like the way
- 14:24Speaker 1: I see things is like first we there's a single
- 14:27Speaker 1: coming in two weeks, then there's another one, and then
- 14:29Speaker 1: the album comes out, and you know, we will take
- 14:32Speaker 1: it as it comes. So we say, now before we
- 14:36Speaker 1: let you go, let a new segment.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I've started towards Fighter Bomb, which basically means I'm trold
- 14:40Speaker 2: three social media. Before we had a chat and I
- 14:42Speaker 2: found a couple of fighters someone now a little bit
- 14:44Speaker 2: more about So there's found this one mate, like, tell
- 14:50Speaker 2: us more about this mic stand. It looks bloody awesome.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Oh god, well did you find that? Yeah, the I
- 14:58Speaker 1: don't know where they are, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's
- 15:03Speaker 1: a cool picture though.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Well we created those before the before the tour in
- 15:11Speaker 1: twenty eighteen. Those were actually like circles, like based on
- 15:15Speaker 1: the so you have the logo the symbol AE in
- 15:19Speaker 1: the middle and the rest is like more like a
- 15:21Speaker 1: chaos star. And that was pretty easy for us to
- 15:25Speaker 1: travel with them around the world. So I actually don't
- 15:29Speaker 1: have them with me, so I don't know where they are.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I think Stefan has them, so I need to ask them,
- 15:33Speaker 1: uh and a little more info. If very easy to break,
- 15:39Speaker 1: so I don't know if they all. Yeah, they seemed
- 15:42Speaker 1: to be like in good shape on this picture. Yeah,
- 15:46Speaker 1: they seem okay, but some of them broke during the tour.
- 15:51Speaker 2: They look pretty sharp, you know, didn't cut yourself on.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Them at all? No, no, no, no, no, not really. Well,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I mean it's a little pointy, but it's not so bad,
- 15:59Speaker 1: but yeah, but they break now I see.
- 16:03Speaker 2: The second one, October Cross was a present that our
- 16:06Speaker 2: baby Metal sent you guys once black roses and fruits like.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Ah, yes, no, I would say the fruits were on
- 16:15Speaker 1: the table. I think it's only the black roses because yeah,
- 16:18Speaker 1: what's it's just like a bottle of something some cities
- 16:22Speaker 1: that belongs to us and the fruits they were that
- 16:26Speaker 1: was the rider. Yeah. No so uh, I've been friends
- 16:29Speaker 1: with the Baby Metal for quite a while now, and
- 16:34Speaker 1: this is like that's a custom in in that's a
- 16:37Speaker 1: custom in in Japan to uh, you know, to send
- 16:41Speaker 1: flowers to to a band. Well, I mean, at least
- 16:44Speaker 1: to us, it's been the case like you know, welcome
- 16:46Speaker 1: to Welcome to Japan and getting flowers from like levels
- 16:50Speaker 1: and bands that you know and whatnot. And uh yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 1: the Metal has done that to Sinceinnam and Dragon Force
- 16:58Speaker 1: and uh and and it's it's great. It's a great
- 17:01Speaker 1: you know, it's a great gesture. I think they they've
- 17:03Speaker 1: done it for creator as well.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Well.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I mean every time I come to Japan, I have
- 17:08Speaker 1: a little present from Baby Metal, and I think it's
- 17:10Speaker 1: it's very sweet. Also when they came to friends, I
- 17:14Speaker 1: always brought them like a little something like either like
- 17:17Speaker 1: I think I did bring them like Sin Santum shirts
- 17:21Speaker 1: a while ago, or just like food or something. You know,
- 17:24Speaker 1: it's I think it's a it's a very nice gesture.
- 17:27Speaker 1: And I really love when they did do things like this.
- 17:30Speaker 1: In fact, that little sign congratulations in Santo baby Metal.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I have it somewhere. I don't have it right now,
- 17:38Speaker 1: but I found it again, like not so long ago.
- 17:40Speaker 1: So I keep these things I have like bags and
- 17:44Speaker 1: boxes of like little present like this that I keep
- 17:47Speaker 1: with me.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Thanks very much for your time, friend. You know, absolutely
- 17:50Speaker 2: pleasure speaking with you. The album in Devastation is out
- 17:53Speaker 2: August the eighth. Then hopefully we see you in Australia
- 17:55Speaker 2: soon rather than later.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Thank you very much. Thanks for having me and held please.
- 18:46Speaker 4: So I'm talking for.
