The DiCecco Daily: Final Transaction Intel, Thoughts On Philadelphia Eagles Vs. Las Vegas Raiders · Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast

Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened to everybody? Welcome into another edition of
• 0:12
Speaker 1: the Czech O Deli. It's Andrew to check O, Eagles
• 0:14
Speaker 1: beat reporter for insidethebirds dot Com. Final transactional news for
• 0:18
Speaker 1: the Eagles, and they elevate safety Andre sam from the
• 0:23
Speaker 1: practice squad ahead of tomorrow's game. That's Andre's third and
• 0:27
Speaker 1: final elevation for the season. If they want to activate
• 0:32
Speaker 1: him for more games this year, they're going to have
• 0:35
Speaker 1: to sign him to the fifty three man roster. So
• 0:38
Speaker 1: he's the second year safety. Played fourteen snaps against the
• 0:41
Speaker 1: Chargers on special teams, picked up his first NFL tackle
• 0:45
Speaker 1: on kickoff. Great story for those of you who don't know,
• 0:49
Speaker 1: and I've sort of outlined this at different points over
• 0:52
Speaker 1: the past year and a half, but Andre was a
• 0:56
Speaker 1: highly coveted undrafted free agent coming out of LSU. He
• 0:59
Speaker 1: started his career at McNee State, then he went to
• 1:02
Speaker 1: Marshall and then LSU, and so he spent a lot
• 1:06
Speaker 1: of years in college. He entered the NFL about twenty
• 1:09
Speaker 1: five years old, but I believe he was the LSU
• 1:13
Speaker 1: defensive Player of the Year in twenty twenty three. So
• 1:16
Speaker 1: he's a player that I really like coming out of
• 1:19
Speaker 1: the draft, and he's been on the practice squad all
• 1:22
Speaker 1: of last season, all of this season, lockers right next
• 1:25
Speaker 1: to Mac McWilliams. And by the way, the rookie Diary
• 1:29
  Speaker 1: series will continue. It's just I wasn't there for a
• 1:32
Speaker 1: couple of days this week as I was under the
• 1:35
Speaker 1: weather doing better. But that'll pick back, pick back up
• 1:39
Speaker 1: next week. But yeah, Andre is just a player who
• 1:43
Speaker 1: works really hard in practice. As I understand, he's well liked.
• 1:47
Speaker 1: He's picked up the system very well. I think he's
• 1:51
Speaker 1: probably a better special teams player, even than Tristan McCollum,
• 1:54
Speaker 1: who he was sort of battling with for a roster
• 1:57
Speaker 1: spot last summer. I think that Andre's actually just a
• 2:00
Speaker 1: more natural fit for special teams. I would probably say
• 2:05
Speaker 1: that Tristan might be the better safety at this point.
• 2:08
Speaker 1: But I think that Andrea is interesting because well, first
• 2:13
Speaker 1: of all, he was really close with CJ. Gardner Johnson
• 2:16
Speaker 1: and they still are close, but he would have Andre
• 2:19
Speaker 1: over for you know, Thanksgiving and things like that. They
• 2:22
Speaker 1: trained together in New Orleans with Patrick Robertson, and they
• 2:27
Speaker 1: just had a really close knit relationship. And I think
• 2:30
Speaker 1: CJ sort of guided him along last season and sort
• 2:33
Speaker 1: of showed him the ropes of what it means to
• 2:35
Speaker 1: be an NFL player, and then Andre sort of taking
• 2:39
Speaker 1: that and run with it. Had a good training camp,
• 2:42
Speaker 1: made a lot of really good plays on special teams.
• 2:44
Speaker 1: I actually consider putting him on my initial fifty three
• 2:47
Speaker 1: man roster going you know, the final one, I should say,
• 2:51
Speaker 1: but there really just wasn't room and it had no
• 2:54
Speaker 1: bear it had. It was not an indictment on his
• 2:56
Speaker 1: play at all. Just comes down to numbers. But clearly
• 3:00
Speaker 1: the Eagles like what he provided on special teams will
• 3:02
Speaker 1: give safety depth and special teams prowess, And because that's
• 3:08
Speaker 1: something that is one would think would be a prevailing
• 3:12
Speaker 1: theme for the remainder of the season. You need safety
• 3:14
Speaker 1: depth because Drew mccoob is out for the year or
• 3:17
Speaker 1: undetermined amount of time at least, and you need the
• 3:21
Speaker 1: special teams coverage. So you have to wonder if eventually
• 3:25
Speaker 1: he'll make his way on the fifty three men roster.
• 3:27
Speaker 1: It's really tight, there's not a lot of spots, but
• 3:30
Speaker 1: that's something that you could conceivably see that role as
• 3:34
Speaker 1: a need moving forward. But interesting player. I talked to
• 3:37
Speaker 1: him a lot last season. Not as much this season,
• 3:40
Speaker 1: but last year he would find different ways to challenge
• 3:42
Speaker 1: himself in practice and whether that was I'm going to
• 3:46
Speaker 1: get seven tackles this week, or I'm gonna get two
• 3:48
Speaker 1: forced fumbles or an interception in nine tackles, I think
• 3:52
Speaker 1: that that was all self appointed. But that kind of
• 3:54
Speaker 1: shows you how he tries to keep himself motivated and
• 3:58
Speaker 1: engaged and challenge himself throughout the world week.
• 4:00
Speaker 2: So there you have it.
• 4:02
Speaker 1: That's Andre Sam will be elevated for the third and
• 4:06
Speaker 1: final time this week. And he was also among two
• 4:10
Speaker 1: Eagles who were fine coming off Monday night's game. He
• 4:13
Speaker 1: was fined seven and forty one dollars for unnecessary roughness
• 4:18
Speaker 1: that was the use of the helmet and tight end
• 4:22
Speaker 1: slash fullback Cameron Lotsu was the other player. He was
• 4:24
Speaker 1: fined four thousand, six hundred and sixty six hours for
• 4:27
Speaker 1: unnecessary roughness use of the helmet. So that those fines
• 4:32
Speaker 1: usually are handed down Saturday afternoon, right around the elevations.
• 4:36
Speaker 2: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
• 4:38
Speaker 2: not always in the mood to drink, and that's why
• 4:41
Speaker 2: I looked for a great alternative and I found one
