- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here, it's Friday you clever thing,
- 0:15you made it to the end of another week.
- 0:18It is the 4th of July and sadly I'm all alone at the microphone
- 0:23today. If you haven't been listening
- 0:25this week, this is the week we have been diving head first into
- 0:28the Song of Solomon, reading some beautiful love poetry and
- 0:32the lovely Yvonne. My wife has joined us so far
- 0:35this week and it's been lovely. So if you haven't listened to
- 0:37those you should go back and listen.
- 0:39What a treat it is to have her at the microphone with me.
- 0:42Much less lonely. But today I'm not lonely at all
- 0:45because I got your company and I got all the wisdom in the world
- 0:49delivered by our old friend King Solomon.
- 0:53It's a very King Solomon kind of a week this week.
- 0:55Bit of love poetry and then a bit of wisdom poetry.
- 0:59Well done, you, Solomon. All right, friends, you're ready
- 1:03to get a bit smarter with me to tap into some age old wisdom.
- 1:07Great. Me too.
- 1:08Let us read together Proverbs 1413 to 18.
- 1:25Laughter can conceal a heavy heart, but when the laughter
- 1:29ends, the grief remains. Backsliders get what they
- 1:35deserve. Good people receive their
- 1:37reward. Only simpletons believe
- 1:42everything they're told. The prudent carefully consider
- 1:46their steps, the wise are cautious and avoid danger.
- 1:52Fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence, short tempered
- 1:58people do foolish things, and schemers are hated.
- 2:04Simpletons are clothed with foolishness.
- 2:07But the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
- 2:12And again, laughter can conceal a heavy heart.
- 2:18But when the laughter ends, the grief remains.
- 2:23Backsliders get what they deserve.
- 2:25Good people receive their reward.
- 2:31Only simpletons believe everything they're told.
- 2:34The prudent carefully consider their steps.
- 2:39The wise are cautious and avoid danger.
- 2:43Fools plunge ahead with reckless confidence, Short tempered
- 2:49people do foolish things, and schemers are hated.
- 2:55Simpletons are clothed with foolishness, but the prudent are
- 2:59crowned with knowledge. My Lord, thank you for your
- 3:14wisdom through the ages to us. And in this first proverb that
- 3:18we read today, we read that laughter can conceal a heavy
- 3:23heart, but that even when the laughter ends, that grief
- 3:26remains. Our Lord, you know the journey
- 3:30of grief that so many of us have to travel.
- 3:33In fact, all of us have to travel at some point or another,
- 3:37and that yes, laughter can come and our hearts can be glad for a
- 3:40moment, but that grief must take its course.
- 3:48But thank you for this reminder that all parts of the human
- 3:51experience are valid and important.
- 3:55And Lord, you know that in these modern days, the hedonistic
- 3:59desire is to get rid of all this painful emotion like grief or
- 4:03heartache. But Lord, when we love and we
- 4:08lose, we experience grief. Lord, help us not to fight that
- 4:14grief, but just to let that grief run its course as we just
- 4:20respect it and allow it to do its work.
- 4:22Lord, because Your wisdom resides in that grief as it
- 4:27enables us to process the losses that life will throw at us.
- 4:33And Lord, yes, that laughter may still come even in the midst of
- 4:36grief. That laughter can come and go as
- 4:39a natural break, giving us some levity, and that then grief can
- 4:44continue its work. And Lord, as we live through
- 4:48this life of ups and downs and brokenness leading back into
- 4:52wholeness, we know that ultimately you are waiting to
- 4:58restore us fully and bring us entirely back into wholeness
- 5:03with your peace and your presence binding us back
- 5:06together in that perfect peace that irenae, that peace that you
- 5:12offer us, bringing all those broken shards back together in
- 5:17you. So we look forward to that day
- 5:20of wholeness, and we pray all of this with grateful hearts.
- 5:24In your name, Jesus, Amen.
