- 0:16To love letters. Welcome to Love Letters from
- 1:05God. We're going to talk about
- 1:08loneliness today. I'm wondering, I don't know who
- 1:14all listens to this, but I'm reasonably sure that there's
- 1:21some lonely people out there and they're wondering just what life
- 1:29is all about. It's pretty tough.
- 1:33And we want to look at some of that situation here today,
- 1:38Loneliness. Is there anything in God's love
- 1:44letters that has anything to do with loneliness?
- 1:50Now, some of you here too, who are expressing this loneliness,
- 1:57our warriors, you've been fighters for your country and
- 2:04you've given the best you had. And then you wonder if anybody
- 2:11really cares. When we are depressed, we often
- 2:17feel lonely and we feel that nobody cares what happens to us.
- 2:28And the immense opposition that we sometimes face in a community
- 2:37where where God isn't really honored much and we live in, in
- 2:45that kind of a case, that kind of a community, when we face a
- 2:52community like that, sometimes it can make us feel isolated and
- 3:00foolish if we haven't stand for God, for instance, it feels like
- 3:12the whole world is against us and we feel that we're fighting
- 3:18a losing battle for what we believe in.
- 3:24And the people that once stood with us, maybe they just don't
- 3:32seem to be there anymore. Now in God's love letter, he
- 3:40covers all kinds of situations. And there are some examples of
- 3:47individuals in that love letter of individuals that felt just
- 3:53like that. Elijah is one of them.
- 3:58He had been very successful in standing for God and then all of
- 4:04a sudden he was afraid that they were going to kill him.
- 4:07And he ran off, found himself in a cave all by himself.
- 4:15And he thought he was the only one that cared.
- 4:21But God had to remind him that there were a whole lot of other
- 4:28people that cared just like he did.
- 4:36He just didn't know who they were.
- 4:39He had to remind them of who they were.
- 4:43When you and I have situations like that in our own lives, it's
- 4:49it's such times like that that the Lord wants to open our eyes
- 4:58to the community of other people around us who do feel the same
- 5:06way we do. The Lord told Elijah that there
- 5:11were 7000 people who cared for the Lord as much as he did, and
- 5:22now that that's a lot of people and Elijah had to had to be
- 5:29reminded of that fact. He wasn't alone.
- 5:38He wasn't the only one either that had those kind of
- 5:43experiences there. There's just people everywhere,
- 5:53you and I don't know where they are.
- 5:56Just like, I don't know, I don't know how far this, this radio
- 6:01program goes. I don't know who's listening and
- 6:06who's not. But I know that I know that the
- 6:11Lord's message is true and it'll get where it needs to go.
- 6:18So we're going to look at some Psalms now.
- 6:23They're short psalms, and we're going to notice some of these
- 6:32same ideas. Let's turn to Psalm #99 The Lord
- 6:47reigns. Let the peoples tremble.
- 6:53He dwells between the cherubim. Let the earth be moved.
- 7:01The Lord is great in Zion, and He is high above all the
- 7:08peoples. Let them praise your great and
- 7:12awesome name. He is holy.
- 7:17The King's strength also loves justice.
- 7:23You have established equity. You have executed justice and
- 7:29righteousness. In Jacob exalt the Lord our God,
- 7:34and worship at his foots. To you he is holy.
- 7:41Moses and Aaron were among his priests, and Samuel was among
- 7:49those who called upon his name. They called upon the Lord, and
- 7:54he answered them. He spoke to them in the cloudy
- 7:58pillar. They kept his testimonies and
- 8:03the ordinances that he gave them.
- 8:07You answered them, O Lord our God.
- 8:11You were to them the God who forgives, though you took
- 8:16vengeance on their deeds. Exalt the Lord our God and
- 8:22worship at his holy heel, for the Lord our God is holy.
- 8:28So is Psalm 99. Notice in that Psalm that the
- 8:33Lord's always listening. He's always there.
- 8:38He wants to hear what we have on our mind, but at the same time
- 8:43that He wants to hear that, He wants us to know that He's going
- 8:49to be there to back us as long as we are backing Him.
- 8:54Let's jump over to Psalms 100 and 101.
- 9:01I will sing of mercy and justice to you.
- 9:04Oh Lord, I will sing praises. I will behave wisely in a
- 9:10perfect way. Oh, when will you come to me?
- 9:15I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.
- 9:20I will set nothing wicked before my eyes.
- 9:24I hate the work of those who fall away.
- 9:28It shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall depart
- 9:33from me. I will not know wickedness.
- 9:39Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy.
- 9:46The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, him I will
- 9:51not endure. My eyes should be on the
- 9:55faithful of the land that they may dwell with me.
- 10:01He who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve me.
- 10:07He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house.
- 10:13He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence early.
- 10:20I will destroy all the wicked of the land, that I may cut off all
- 10:26the evil doers from the city of the Lord.
- 10:33Again, this is a short Psalm one O 1 telling the Lord is there as
- 10:41long as we're there with him as well.
- 10:44Let's jump over to Psalms 110. Now I notice another short
- 10:53Psalm, that is David is is talking about there.
- 11:03Psalms 110 The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand, till
- 11:13I make your enemies your foot steal.
- 11:16The Lord shall send me the rod of your strength out of Zion
- 11:21ruled in the midst of your enemies.
- 11:25Your people should be volunteers in the day of your power, in the
- 11:30beauties of holiness. From the womb of the morning you
- 11:35have the dew of your youth. The Lord has sworn, and He will
- 11:40not relent. You are a priest forever.
- 11:45According to the order of Melchizedek.
- 11:49The Lord is at your right hand. He shall execute kings in the
- 11:56day of His wrath. He should judge among the
- 11:59nations. He shall fill the places with
- 12:03dead bodies. He shall execute the heads of
- 12:07many countries. He should drink of the brook by
- 12:11the wayside. Therefore he should lift up his
- 12:16head. Another short Psalm that tells
- 12:20us the Lord is always going to be there.
- 12:24Don't feel like you're by yourself.
- 12:27The Lord is always going to be there.
- 12:29Let's jump over to Psalms 140. 149, or rather 144, is the one
- 12:52I'm looking for. Blessed be the Lord my rock, who
- 13:01trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle.
- 13:08My loving kindness and my fortress, my high tower and my
- 13:13deliverer, my shield and the one in whom I take refuge, who
- 13:20subdues my people under me. Lord, what is man that you take
- 13:26knowledge of him, or the Son of Man that you are mindful of him?
- 13:32Man is like a breath. His days are like a parting
- 13:37shadow. Bow down your heavens, O Lord,
- 13:42and come down. Touch the mountains, and they
- 13:45shall smoke. Flash forth lightning and
- 13:48scatter them. Shout out your arrows and
- 13:52destroy them. Stretch out your hand from a
- 13:56bone. Rescue me and deliver me out of
- 14:02great waters from the hand of foreigners.
- 14:05Whose mouth speak lying words, and whose right hand is a right
- 14:11hand of falsehood. I will sing a new song to you, O
- 14:16God, on a harp of 10 strings. I will sing praises to you, the
- 14:24one who gives salvation to kings, who delivers David his
- 14:29servant from the deadly sword. Rescue me, deliver me from the
- 14:35hand of foreigners whose mouth speaks lying words and whose
- 14:41right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
- 14:45That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth.
- 14:50That our daughters may be as pillars, sculptured in palace
- 14:54style. That our barns may be full,
- 14:58supplying all kinds of produce. That our sheep may bring forth
- 15:03thousands and 10 thousands in our fields.
- 15:08That our oxen may well be well laden.
- 15:12That there be no breaking in or going out.
- 15:16That there be no outcry in our streets.
- 15:19Happy are the people who are in such a state.
- 15:24Happy are the people whose God is the Lord, and so was Psalm
- 15:33#144 The peace of God is a state of genuine, meaningful
- 15:50happiness. Peace and happiness are not one
- 15:56on the same thing. No one can be happy in a deep
- 16:02and meaningful way if you don't also have peace.
- 16:11So look for peace with the Lord, and as you have peace with the
- 16:16Lord, happiness will come. The apostle Paul is another
- 16:22example of one who experienced peaceful happiness as well as
- 16:30having met and embraced the the risen Christ.
- 16:35Paul knew that he had been forgiven for all of the people
- 16:41that he had imprisoned and had killed and everything else, and
- 16:47he could affirm that the words of this Psalm in 144.
- 16:55Happy are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven and who are
- 17:05covered. Happy is the man to whom the
- 17:10Lord shall not impute sin. Does God the desire for you and
- 17:20me to be happy? Absolutely.
- 17:25But the happiness that we experience derives from the
- 17:31unshakable truth that we have been forgiven and we live in a
- 17:38state of peace with God through Jesus Christ.
- 17:44Biblical happiness comes from being in the right relationship
- 17:51and fellowship with our God, and He tells us in His love letter
- 17:58how to come into that relationship.
- 18:01Shall we pray our Father in heaven?
- 18:05We do get lonely sometimes. We pray for your peace.
- 18:12We pray for your understanding that there are a lot of others
- 18:18all over the world who are just like us.
- 18:24And we need you. We all need you.
- 18:27We're happy that you are there, and we're happy that in your
- 18:32love letter you remind us of that fact.
- 18:36We're happy that your Son Jesus came and made everything
- 18:42available to us. And we pray this in his name.
- 18:47Amen. And that's it for today.
