- 0:02Yeah, lace them up another way. Another.
- 0:12Easy double, Yeah, from the track to the rodeo, we talk that
- 0:17talk splits on the watch, but we still take the Mick, Dean and
- 0:20Per for the long run. Legs go and break the fire when
- 0:22the session gets thick. Ryan in the mix with the numbers
- 0:24and plans from Everson to medals.
- 0:26Yeah, we break it all down. Hard graft Monday left about a
- 0:28Sunday. Still chasing peeves while the
- 0:30wheel spins. Run Hello and welcome back to
- 0:33the special Easy Double podcast series London Calling for the
- 0:37finale, the race episode, and we have two races to recap.
- 0:41We have the London Marathon and we have the Amagata Acadine, so
- 0:45I'm looking forward to getting stuck into this, boys.
- 0:47I know maybe Jake Smith, you might be not looking forward to
- 0:51it too much, but I'm sure you'll feel better afterwards.
- 0:55Just get it all out there. Yeah.
- 0:59So, Tim, you're back in Australia.
- 1:02I was the travel bar. I actually went through Hong
- 1:06Kong on the way back and I'd never done that before.
- 1:09So it's probably the most direct path in terms of minimizing
- 1:13flying. And it was a pretty weird
- 1:15experience because you, you know, obviously going to London,
- 1:18to Brisbane and you, I don't know, just randomly end up in
- 1:22Hong Kong for like 4 hours. So like managed to find a few
- 1:26Japanese like convenience stores and got like a Bakari sweat.
- 1:29So it was like this really random 4 hours where I was over
- 1:31tied just in Asia. But yeah, no back and yes,
- 1:36recovering now. And did you fly back with Liam?
- 1:40Are we on different schedules? Different schedules, so we
- 1:44actually haven't even caught up too much.
- 1:46His partner Jazz came over and they're I think he's coming back
- 1:51in the next few hours. They had a holiday so he's had
- 1:53the extra week. Yeah, OK, nice.
- 1:57And now, now that you're back in Australia, does it almost feel
- 2:00like London was a different lifetime ago or is it still like
- 2:03immediately, just there last week?
- 2:05Can you touch it still? No, I reckon it actually does
- 2:08feel like a better go now. I think moving time zones and
- 2:12whatnot, and even just having life distractions and stuff
- 2:16creep back in and, you know, starting to think about, you
- 2:20know, I'm going to be applying for new jobs and stuff now.
- 2:23So that's kind of creeping up and all that jazz.
- 2:26And I think even just that mental shift makes it feel a bit
- 2:29longer ago. And I know you and Jake caught
- 2:35up after the race and probably put the world to rights there.
- 2:38So it was mental state. Now we're all clear and any
- 2:42hangovers are long gone. Now I've I've probably if
- 2:46anything had had that week go too long, had pub golf on the
- 2:50weekend with my mates as well. So much like Jake I think he
- 2:54said he had another Degas or on his socials and I was about the
- 2:58same day as me. So I've had a very nice week off
- 3:01and we, yeah, we had a great catch up afterwards.
- 3:04It was everything I'd hoped after London Marathon to be.
- 3:10And yeah, I've been enjoying my recovery and I don't know if I'm
- 3:13keen to get back into running yet, but I know that ball's
- 3:16probably gonna start kind of rolling soon.
- 3:20Well, if ever there's a time for it.
- 3:24Oh, I have a story about it was it was.
- 3:26It's just the most wuzzy thing. I think we've now come to
- 3:29conclusion because we we finished the race now with my
- 3:32family just in the park in the, like bar downstairs in the
- 3:35hotel. And Tim, you went got lunch and
- 3:38stuff and then you were like just chilling in the room after
- 3:41the race. And he messaged me.
- 3:42He's like, oh, do you want to meet for a few drinks?
- 3:46So I said, yeah, yeah, come down to us.
- 3:48But this is when me and Katie had to go to another hotel
- 3:50outside a Nike event. So it's all my family, friends
- 3:53and stuff. There was like 4 guys there and
- 3:55I said Tim just hang out with these like I left so he has no
- 3:59clue who any of these people are but they are just one of the
- 4:02guys lives what? 10 minutes from your house?
- 4:0510-15 minutes from your house in Australia.
- 4:07Yeah, it turns out about 20 minutes, yeah.
- 4:10And then I get. They come back about two hours
- 4:11later and you wouldn't even need guess.
- 4:14Tim wasn't even part of the family.
- 4:16He was just like, like just hapsi go for it.
- 4:19We get to the pub later. I reckon he must bore 30 shots,
- 4:22probably only one for himself. The whole pub.
- 4:25He started being a waiter in the bloody pub, helping the actual
- 4:29pub guys pick up their glasses. It was phenomenal.
- 4:32It was a blood when it's little. I'm child of the people.
- 4:35Well, it's Japanese football. Top on it was.
- 4:39Very good evening. Because, you know, it's amazing.
- 4:42They all loved, they all loved him to be fair.
- 4:44So the Aussies are very good. I give the Aussies a lot of
- 4:48credit. They are very good.
- 4:49Bunch of people to go out with. Yeah, very fun evening and
- 4:54everything. I actually said you remember you
- 4:57are getting a job. Stop.
- 5:01I'm. Terrible, to be honest, like
- 5:03that. I also see it as like, that's
- 5:05that's why I kind of save my money.
- 5:06I spend it on experiences and people rather than flashy things
- 5:12if that makes sense. So that's exactly how I like
- 5:14spending my money. And then I get a.
- 5:18Message Oh yeah. Yeah, I got a message 3 and I've
- 5:21been walking back and it said it's Google location stuff.
- 5:25That was not fun, going back into that Hilton with a German
- 5:28Donna kebab. Yeah, Anyway for.
- 5:32The UK night out. Yeah, Yeah, we got there.
- 5:37Yeah. So within what like 12 hours
- 5:39you'd gone from run like peak physical condition to walk?
- 5:44Strolling in at 3:00 AM like absolutely bastard with the
- 5:47kebab in hand. So still peak physical
- 5:50condition. Yeah, for the average UK.
- 5:54Man, Yeah, no, it was a bit of fun and I know sometimes you get
- 5:59a little bit of steam off and yeah, it didn't get too crazy,
- 6:02but absolutely, yeah, probably enjoyed myself.
- 6:06Sounds like the the stunt stamina for a nice owl is
- 6:10similar to the stomach. The endurance stamina done well.
- 6:14Actually, to be fair, that's what Jake was talking about.
- 6:17Like I was too lazy to catch the, I don't even know if the
- 6:20tubes run that late. So I just walked home and it was
- 6:22like 5K. Took me about 50 minutes, but I
- 6:25kind of just went for this big walk.
- 6:29And Jake, what's going on over there in Japan?
- 6:31How's the feelings post acadine? As everything settled down now?
- 6:35Is the town been buzzing? It's a big, big come down after
- 6:40that one. I feel like I shouldn't be
- 6:41talking about when we've got the London Marathon just happened,
- 6:45but it was pretty legendary. Just yeah, I was genuinely
- 6:50thinking after it's going to be impossible next year to pick
- 6:53between that and London Marathon again.
- 6:56But before I was kind of joking, you know, there's this is a big
- 6:59event, but this was the most fun race, I guess you could say I've
- 7:04ever done easily just because it's like the team factor.
- 7:08You can't get in any other running.
- 7:10It was like you and your kid playing like football or
- 7:12something rugby. I thought it's such legendary
- 7:15memories because there's a team aspect and it's something you
- 7:18can't get from running unless it's this Ecky then.
- 7:20So yeah, it was, it was legendary.
- 7:22I can't believe I'm saying that. I might have to turn down London
- 7:25Marathon next year to come back for Round 2.
- 7:29So is it like state championships for the acadine,
- 7:33if you would compare it to that or like northerns or whatever
- 7:37and then it's like qualified? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:40I mean, the thing with most of the regions all around Japan, I
- 7:45think back in the day they had accu dens and stuff, but most of
- 7:48them kind of died out. You just got the big national
- 7:50ones for some reason. This one where I am is I guess
- 7:53the biggest one in Japan. It's still going like 70 years
- 7:56or whatever. And since you just get bigger
- 7:59and bigger each year, like the live streams, they've racked up
- 8:02like 300K views, like over the it's, it's enormous.
- 8:07Like, yeah, within Japan the next day after the race, I was
- 8:11getting stopped about 20 times just around town, random people,
- 8:15like, pulling up. Like, oh, shit, you ran the
- 8:17accident. Like, good.
- 8:18Well, I'm in a ride and you've got this car stopping by.
- 8:21Like, oh, great job. It was a bit mad, but yeah, on a
- 8:25row. Are they saying Jake son?
- 8:30Jake, Son. Hi, I'm on it.
- 8:33Great Japanese practice. You know when you say your name
- 8:38in like the MAD pronunciation? Is that just the Japanese
- 8:41pronunciation? Yeah, sounds like I'm being
- 8:45insanely racist, but Jacob Baracroff, that is my genuine
- 8:50name. Hi team, sorry to interrupt.
- 8:53Just a quick message to ask for a favour.
- 8:55I hope you've enjoyed the series as much as I have.
- 8:57If you've just joined us for Tim, Jake and Jake that's
- 9:00absolutely fine, but if you have enjoyed that, please leave us a

- 9:24Thanks, guys. Right, let's get into some of
- 9:27the race action then, fellas. Jake and Tim, we obviously
- 9:31caught up on like Wednesday prior to the race, which felt
- 9:35like the race was immediately upon us.
- 9:37But I bet you those 72 hours or whatever it was dragged like
- 9:41anything. So we don't need to go into like
- 9:45actual training. But did you do much running in
- 9:48those like 48 hours leading up to the race Friday, Saturday?
- 9:54I didn't, I think I did one workout, if you want to call it
- 9:57that, like 10 minutes of just pretty much not jogging
- 10:01essentially like a little, not even threshold, just essentially
- 10:05sort of break up the jogging on the don't even know if it was
- 10:09Thursday or Friday. And then I went into the race
- 10:11hotel and all I remember from there is just whinging to Jake
- 10:15at meals about how full I was and how over food I was and just
- 10:19kind of had to keep eating. So that was my most
- 10:22uncomfortable thing. I remember was just the food was
- 10:26delicious but I was pretty overeating.
- 10:31And then your, that was your made major debut.
- 10:34Yeah, first time on a major start line.
- 10:37Yep, Yep. First time running a major so it
- 10:41was pretty like there's a lot more full on procedures and
- 10:44stuff I guess, like uniform checks and all that.
- 10:47Like I don't remember doing that in Tokyo.
- 10:50I'm sure it's maybe just already done in the background with the
- 10:52countries, you know, uniforms, but yeah, all that.
- 10:58And then it just felt like the Saturday, I think the day
- 11:00before, like I was just going from procedure to procedure.
- 11:03So the day kind of felt not busy, but I was always doing
- 11:07something. And that so does it start to
- 11:10feel very real once you get in the race hotel?
- 11:14Yeah, I was glad we kind of went in the Friday.
- 11:17I think Jake went in the same day and it was just nice that I
- 11:20have kind of like that afternoon to settle and have a meal and
- 11:24what, just wake up there and. What about you, Jake?
- 11:29Are you just raring to go full of excitement at this point or
- 11:32you very calm and composed? Been there, done it before.
- 11:36No, I thought I was too excited because I can change pace
- 11:38groups. Yeah, yeah, it was good because
- 11:42on the Friday morning did some photo shoots with the team.
- 11:46I still want it mad. Like you get to the start of
- 11:49London Marathon and they bring up 4 athletes and they aren't
- 11:52bringing up Kamura checked guy. It still goes through me like
- 11:55they're not bringing those two athletes up.
- 11:57And if you look at what they've achieved it, I still would say
- 12:00those two are almost more accomplished than the other
- 12:03three, like in terms of major medals.
- 12:05But yeah, it was it was awesome. Like just hang out with Tim and
- 12:10Liam and Adam. Adam Clarke, who it's just quite
- 12:13a laugh. I don't know if you've met Eve,
- 12:15Charlotte Perdues. Are they married?
- 12:17Are they husband done? He just chats absolute like
- 12:22shit, basically so funny. He's like the perfect person you
- 12:25want before a race. It didn't really start to get
- 12:30real until like the meeting, I'll say in the Saturday
- 12:33evening. So I, I've always, I tried to
- 12:35keep really, really calm. Well, getting to win the race, I
- 12:40felt like I put a bit too much expectation on it because the
- 12:44last five miles I felt like it was more an emotional like cry
- 12:47than anything really. But.
- 12:51It was nice seeing a lot of other people.
- 12:53People came in at different times and my coach came in the
- 12:57Saturday evening just to like go for everything, the pay.
- 13:01It's just a bit of a shame like like you go into a major and
- 13:05there was what me, there was like 6 of us in a group go to
- 13:10like going at like 2A2O9 and there's no one else on the road.
- 13:14And it's just like that's the only negative side of London.
- 13:18I feel like sometimes the marathon they put, they spend so
- 13:22much money on the three people who can basically break 2, but
- 13:27then the actual depth is quite poor.
- 13:30It's like the the sub two guys and then the two of six.
- 13:33There's always a good two O 6 pack, like every single year.
- 13:36There's always a group there. And then after that it's just
- 13:40like Tim will get into it like a halfway.
- 13:42He backed off a bit and there was no one near him.
- 13:45And it's just like how how are we going into a major like this?
- 13:48When you look at the races, like for example, in Japan or the
- 13:51other majors, like there's always groups and I do feel like
- 13:55they should London Marathon should almost put more of an
- 13:59incentive and I want them to OK, now we broke into next year.
- 14:02See how many people they can like Jake has been saying on his
- 14:05on his videos before, like how many people we can see break two
- 14:09O 8. Like just get the like the world
- 14:11record for it would be so cool. But I don't know why why it is.
- 14:15But they always just spend so much money on these top top
- 14:19guys. And it's a bit of a shame
- 14:21because there were points in that race to him where you must
- 14:24find we were in a nomad. There was no one like 0.
- 14:28Yeah, it was pretty tricky and I might even diverge into that now
- 14:32at the first little part of the race.
- 14:34And I think we'd spoken about it at the race hotel and after the
- 14:39technical meeting. So my time in mind, I can say it
- 14:42now that it's afterwards. Like I would have loved like I
- 14:45reckon maybe 2830, like that's, I thought even if that was too
- 14:49hot, it would have still been not hot enough that maybe I
- 14:54could handle it and run to A9 low.
- 14:57So 208. Oh yeah, that's what the pace
- 15:00was meant to be. So that's why at the start we
- 15:03were like, yeah, you know, this should be all well and good.
- 15:06And then obviously, yeah, I think it went a bit quicker in
- 15:10the first part being downhill and whatnot.
- 15:12And even just the group dynamics.
- 15:15Was it five of us, I believe, because I remember thinking I
- 15:19had boots with me. We were kind of floating off the
- 15:21back and I was thinking in terms of a majority to try and swing
- 15:25the paces towards us. So I know both of us wanted to
- 15:29stick more to the 6430. I was in Alfisia trying to get
- 15:34hit because I knew it was his first marathon.
- 15:36I was like, oh, surely you want to, you know, take the foot off
- 15:38the throttle a bit here and, you know, let's just play it a bit
- 15:41safe. He was pretty content to keep
- 15:44rolling and I know Adam wanted to push on.
- 15:47So with that being said, it was like, cool, I'll just kind of do
- 15:51my own thing. And we kind of just floated off
- 15:52the back. But the pace was probably just,
- 15:55as Jake said, it was just a little bit tiny, too quick for
- 16:00comfort. But there's there's no point,
- 16:03you know, going slower. So it's just this really awkward
- 16:06in between, yeah. Can I show you the yeah, you
- 16:13know, in the pre race meeting and stuff, how are the groups
- 16:16set up? Are you having input into that
- 16:18or how? Because you know, different
- 16:20races in different ways, but who who actually comes up with the
- 16:22pace group? No idea.
- 16:24There's there was just a sheet with their names printed on it
- 16:27and I was like, cool, that's me. You're not even saying.
- 16:32So the organisers write down like, so they had the European
- 16:36time in mind, but then it would have been me and potentially I
- 16:41was the only person going with that group.
- 16:42So I was like, no point, let me go to a fast group, try and sit
- 16:46with them and then let them go with a slower pack because I
- 16:50didn't want to. I mean, when you do London, if
- 16:53you're by yourself and there's no one in front of you in Canary
- 16:55Wharf, it is the worst thing on this planet.
- 16:59But they were, they just went off PBS.
- 17:01So they put Chaparreau in the 209 Thirty group.
- 17:04He went off with the 206 around 207.
- 17:06They were just complete going off PBS and what like a bit
- 17:09quicker and but then in a meeting you can like talk like
- 17:13so for example, like we should have liked him saying we should
- 17:15have probably backed off. We'd sat Mohammed to shout out
- 17:19to him. He got us A30K.
- 17:20He's Mohammed, Mohammed's brother, Like he was the last
- 17:23two K he was. He was like he was pushing and I
- 17:29think Adam like he, I thought he had a really good race and I
- 17:32thought he was going to go on for something.
- 17:33Like when I saw him at 30 Ki thought he was on to something
- 17:36crazy but I think he struggled towards because Timmy went past
- 17:40and the new Tour at the end. Yeah.
- 17:42I think it about 41 or 40, yeah. He, I think he sort of, I think
- 17:47he was a bit quite aggressive, but but it's, it's the same
- 17:51dynamics. It's like, like I said before,
- 17:53we those five of us in a major marathon and we couldn't even
- 17:57see the group ahead or behind at any stage, not one stage
- 18:01basically. And it's just a bit like, what
- 18:04do you actually do? And we went through halfway in
- 18:08like 64364 four. So we were like we were pushing,
- 18:13but it was a it was a nice group for for the first UK.
- 18:17I was like Chang, I think I was chatting absolute shit.
- 18:19Basically. I was like, oh boys, we got his
- 18:21sub two away, something like that.
- 18:26Yeah. It was quite.
- 18:27Funny, So what on? On reflection, you were a little
- 18:29bit too energetic early doors. Me and Alfie were comparing
- 18:33heart rate to 5K. And Tim, Tim's probably like
- 18:40just trying to be in his own little world.
- 18:42He. Has he has a lot of spirit and
- 18:44I'm like, I want, I want it. Yeah, I was trying to sit at the
- 18:48back and my whole plan was on and I said this to the guys
- 18:52before, like I wanted to try and you know, like if I needed to
- 18:57drop myself off, like I didn't think I was going to run 2 or 8
- 18:59flat at London. So point being like I was never,
- 19:02ever going to stick to that pace.
- 19:05Like as soon as I got the slightest whiff of this is
- 19:07starting to pinch, I was just going to back off.
- 19:09Meaning like if you want to form a second group, I'll be there.
- 19:14And I did feel things like every Jake might know the part on the
- 19:17course. 10K in the crowd started to build up along the river and
- 19:22every time the crowd cheered, the pacer would pick up not
- 19:24Zack, our other one. And it was just like things like
- 19:28that. It felt very far lucky.
- 19:31Yeah, just a few things around that.
- 19:33And just like the group of five, I really felt like we took
- 19:37almost 10 to 15 K to kind of get settled whether it was just the
- 19:42like the occasion, if that makes sense.
- 19:44The amount of excitement Jake kind of touched on there about
- 19:48even the first 5K and still talking, getting splits like as
- 19:51a group. And we probably needed each
- 19:54other more and just, yeah, maybe we could have done more in the
- 19:58first 10K. Whereas, yeah, I think we
- 20:00probably all expended too much energy too early.
- 20:05Yeah, so through halfway, like Jake just said, use a 64 low and
- 20:10that first half of the races, it all gone to plan in terms of
- 20:13getting your bottles from the drink station.
- 20:15No one had pinched them. You got down what you wanted and
- 20:18stuff. Yeah, I didn't pinched any of
- 20:21Jake's bottles. I got all of mine.
- 20:27Daffo stealing some. What?
- 20:30He was on this African guy, he was terrible.
- 20:32He was they said you're table 5I reckon you kept it.
- 20:35You went Table 2, Table 3 and 1 table 4.
- 20:37He took that score 3 every time at.
- 20:40Least he was switching it off. I got all mine and I got a
- 20:48stitch again at around like I had this in Frankfurt as well so
- 20:51I wasn't too concerned, just a bit of gut discomfort around 10
- 20:55or 12 K. So I'll probably look to switch
- 20:57up my nutrition loading in next time.
- 21:00That's for me to workout. But I think also around that
- 21:04time is probably where I started to not even drop, but just like
- 21:09you, just 5 meters. But it wasn't by choice.
- 21:11It was like I just knew I needed to sort my guts out.
- 21:14So I was kind of, I was silent at that point between probably
- 21:1710 and 15. And if anything, I'll probably,
- 21:21you know, where, you know, you're starting to work or hurt
- 21:23a bit and you know, it's way too early to be feeling like that.
- 21:26So I was probably fighting demons through that part of the
- 21:29course. Are you able to take the
- 21:32atmosphere in as well during this or are you just like fully
- 21:35locked in? I was still trying to block it
- 21:38out. My plan was to ideally whether I
- 21:41was with a group or not, just get to.
- 21:44I had the number like 27 in mind but ±2 K depending how I was
- 21:48feeling and wanted to try and lift in energy from that point.
- 21:53So I was pretty focused on getting to 27, feeling OK ish.
- 22:01It's funny because, well, I was watching the race and then I've
- 22:04looked back at the splits to kind of try and piece the story
- 22:06together. So you just went through
- 22:08halfway, Tim. You were a little bit off the
- 22:11back by that point. And then between 20 and 30 K,
- 22:16Jake went through the 30K split, 20 seconds ahead here.
- 22:19And then by the 35K split you'd actually gone through that.
- 22:23I had the Jake. So had you at that point, Jake,
- 22:27were you still thinking like, shit, I'm on And you started
- 22:29rolling and then it kind of bit quite early.
- 22:34I think it like like I've said to my coaching stuff, I'm I was
- 22:3921 miles fit at 208. He's like if you told me at the
- 22:42start of the it's not a bad place.
- 22:44I let it get to me. Like if you look at my horror
- 22:46days and stuff, I let it get to me too much.
- 22:49So Adam, when the Pacers dropped out of 30 K, Adam was in front
- 22:53of me. He was helping me out and he
- 22:55basically made a surge. And I like said these words like
- 22:58I'm fucked basically. But you know when you say it,
- 23:01but you're, you're actually not because he puts like 2 meters on
- 23:04you. And then I just like from 3537,
- 23:08I picked it back up to pace when Tim went past me, I almost like
- 23:12almost closed the gap a bit again.
- 23:14But then I just the, the problem I had is yeah, OK, I went off
- 23:19too hot. But I put so much like, like I
- 23:22said, I wanted that fairy tale ending.
- 23:23I put so much belief in men like I train.
- 23:26I, I don't think anything went wrong with training.
- 23:28I just put so much pressure on myself to get this time because
- 23:32it would have been quite a cool story, like from everything I've
- 23:34done and help people to run the time.
- 23:38So when I saw like the time sort of slipping, I it just got to me
- 23:42way too much. So it's like, yeah, I it's one
- 23:48of those as well. It's like, I don't want to be
- 23:50like rude to myself. But now I feel like a 212 is a
- 23:53really like a shit performance on on my level, on the way I
- 23:57execute and stuff. So it gives me, it shows where
- 24:00I'm at. It's just, I don't know if you
- 24:02boys have ever been in the race and it's like, you know, when
- 24:04the time's slipping away, just it's so hard to get back out.
- 24:09So I really want that British best and I, it's completely on
- 24:12me. I, I completely executed it
- 24:15wrong, but I kind of wish when Tim went past, I just tried to
- 24:20like just sit on it. But Tim made me laugh because
- 24:22when he went past, he told me at the end that when he hurts, he
- 24:25like, he like does little waves and I didn't, I thought he was
- 24:29like chilling. But then he's like, mate, I was
- 24:31cooked When I, when I, I like wave at the eagle.
- 24:34And I'm not gonna lie, I was, I, I went straight after I crossed
- 24:38the line. I went and sat by myself by tree
- 24:40for 10 minutes, just like so upset.
- 24:45I think the worst thing is because I've had, it was my
- 24:47first bad race tonight. I've had such consistent results
- 24:50and show where I'm at. It's my first bad race in the
- 24:52year and it had to be London. That was the worst thing.
- 24:55But it is what it is. It happens and we go again I
- 25:00guess. Yeah, well, the worst thing is
- 25:04when you know yourself. Because.
- 25:07It's only those who decide whether you're happy with the
- 25:10performance or you're not. And then no matter how many
- 25:13times different people tell you like 0212, it's still an amazing
- 25:17run. If you're not happy, you're not
- 25:18happy. And like, it doesn't matter what
- 25:20anyone says because like you said, you, you've almost moved
- 25:24to that 209 place mentally. Like you know, you are the
- 25:27athlete. So then to not get that result,
- 25:30you're just full of like so much frustration because you know
- 25:33that that's what you deserve and what you'd almost earned.
- 25:36So yeah, I can release, but your day will come for sure.
- 25:41Yeah, And it's like it's I put together another plot this like
- 25:45maybe it's like I need to get go to the Ranch Japan book and do
- 25:50some more longer tempers. I feel like I need a couple more
- 25:53of them. Whereas like I think my heart
- 25:55shape at then would have been insane.
- 25:57Just going through like 64 felt like we were just jogging
- 26:01basically. But then I just felt like I
- 26:04hadn't done the like I just missed a couple of those longer
- 26:09stuff. But like every block you learn.
- 26:11So I got through another block. Yeah, it was, it was I, I I
- 26:16wouldn't, I don't wouldn't change anything really.
- 26:18It's been it's been such a but I've loved like talking about it
- 26:21and stuff. But I was in absolute.
- 26:24I was so upset. I was so upset afterwards.
- 26:28But it's that's a marathon guess.
- 26:31And it was so funny because Tim said to my sister after he was
- 26:34like, yeah, Jake's complain about 212 party from outside 220
- 26:38when you've blown up before or something like that in a
- 26:41marathon. So that gave me a bit of
- 26:42positive. Reinforcement should have seen
- 26:46me run Daegu. I think what year was that?
- 26:49Might have been 2024. It was like a hotter day than
- 26:53what they're planned. I think it was Gold Label Race.
- 26:56So they're trying to get as many guys to the Olympics as well
- 26:59they could. And I think the Olympic time,
- 27:02what was it, 2? Was it 206, thirty or 207?
- 27:06So that was the pace pack. And I was, I was a 212 guy at
- 27:10the time. So it was, yeah, that was a long
- 27:13day. I think I ran 217 and there were
- 27:16a few 340 fives in there. So I, I look back on it, that
- 27:22made me a lot tougher. And I hope to never have a day
- 27:25like that again. I don't think anyone further up
- 27:31in the field dropped out, did they?
- 27:32Usually? Like we were joking about people
- 27:34getting to tune back and stuff. Was it?
- 27:37I got Jake. Was there a British guy that
- 27:40dropped back that they were passed?
- 27:42Oh no. Past the results, yeah, I got 1
- 27:46athlete, but that was half the thing with our group's plan.
- 27:48Like I, I was trying to GR Alfie at about, oh, maybe 8K because
- 27:55Jake and Adam were kind of at the front of the group, so I
- 27:58could only get to Alfie. But my whole plan for all of us
- 28:01was like, if we could work together and sit together, we're
- 28:04just going to have so many people come back to us.
- 28:06And I felt like I started to even execute that myself, like
- 28:09not perfectly, but I wasn't, I wasn't dying.
- 28:12I was kind of just just staying alive and no one came back.
- 28:15It was just. Last year, 20 miles, I passed
- 28:20four people. The person you had to pass was
- 28:22Phil Sessman. That was the next person.
- 28:24I've never, ever seen anything like that in London.
- 28:26Like never. It's a first year.
- 28:29Yeah, I thought I saw Phil. Right at the end.
- 28:33But it was obviously like a minute and it was like as you
- 28:37pass Big Ben on that very long straight and Phil was turning
- 28:40right to do the penultimate turn before the finish.
- 28:43And I was like, yes, wait, that's like that's 300 meters.
- 28:49Maybe if the race was another K, you might have got Petrus
- 28:52because it cooked. It cooked to him maybe like 40K
- 28:56or something and it looked like he was jogging because like Diva
- 28:59and Peter Lynch just like flew past them.
- 29:03So although he's finished like obviously with a good time and
- 29:06stuff, I think he was doing the moonwalk by that point.
- 29:10Yeah, I think he can probably run 204 or something on a
- 29:16different day. What's he?
- 29:17Has he run 205? No, I.
- 29:19Was running No 204. He was going for 2:03. 204.
- 29:22At least yeah, yeah, he's plus with the the second at worlds,
- 29:26like everyone has a bad day here and there and if that's a bad
- 29:30day for him is pretty damn good athlete.
- 29:34And so, Tim, just to, to cook to your final result, you obviously
- 29:38agonizingly missed out on a PB by one second.
- 29:41Was it? At what point did you like
- 29:44realize your day had gone from fighting for the sub 29 or
- 29:48whatever to OK let's try and salvage a PB and like what was
- 29:52the kind of last few KS like there?
- 29:56From like 25 K when it just or I don't even know.
- 30:01It was between 25 and 30 where I started to, I saw the pace would
- 30:05kind of drop so it could even be after 30.
- 30:07It was all a bit of a blur and I saw the three other fellas had
- 30:11broken up and I was just trying to go one at a time and get them
- 30:15all back. From that point I never actually
- 30:17looked at my watch and that was my whole thinking.
- 30:19I was like time is irrelevant. This is the part of the marathon
- 30:23where I run, as you know, like you're conserving the whole
- 30:26part, first part to run as hard as you can in the second.
- 30:31So I just never looked. So in my head I could have been
- 30:34running. I knew I definitely wasn't
- 30:35running 208. It felt really slow the pace I
- 30:38was running, but I was like, what can I do?
- 30:41Like I've got, I've got a choice here.
- 30:42It's like you foot on the floor or not.
- 30:46So yeah, I got through the 40K clock.
- 30:48I wasn't worried about any of the other clocks.
- 30:51I didn't do the maths for the extra 200 and I was like, oh, I
- 30:54could be on for 208 here. And then I was like, Oh no, I'm
- 30:59not like 2850 or something. I was like, oh, if I can close
- 31:03all right here and then there's a little 1% incline up to Big
- 31:08Ben or whatnot. I'm not even sure I was running
- 31:10three 20s there. So yeah, it all the wheels fell
- 31:13off pretty quickly towards the end.
- 31:14But I think the key for me, it was more the mentality, Like I
- 31:19was really proud of what I got out of myself.
- 31:22Like not in terms of splits or anything, but it got hard and it
- 31:26got hard for all of us. I kept myself honest, put it
- 31:30that way. Yeah, well, you've done an
- 31:35incredibly, like you've literally run a lifetime best
- 31:38minus a second, but what's that? And you like coming away from it
- 31:42feeling a little bit salty that you didn't run faster, but
- 31:46rewind back to Frankfurt when you probably over the bloody
- 31:50moon thinking how ever done this.
- 31:52Whereas now you've got the same result, different mindset.
- 31:55So it shows progress in a different element I guess
- 31:58doesn't? It exactly right.
- 32:00And one of the big takeaways for me, I'm trying to remind myself
- 32:04of is like a, the whole training block and those gains aren't
- 32:08lost. But to get like better and even
- 32:13run a faster marathon, I'm going to have to go through it 64
- 32:17again. And like even the next one that
- 32:20probably won't change much. It's probably within 15 seconds
- 32:23either side of that halfway split.
- 32:24So I think now you just hope for not necessarily different
- 32:30conditions, but ideally, you know, I think I like cooler
- 32:33weather, me personally. So a few things change and you
- 32:36go, you actually probably don't change the pacing.
- 32:39It's just can you? Can you do better at that same
- 32:41split? Yes.
- 32:44So we spoke briefly offline about the weather before.
- 32:47How did you both find the temperature and the wind and all
- 32:51the conditions, and how do you then comprehend what happened
- 32:55off the top of the race? It's really like the wind was
- 33:00obviously very favorable for us. I didn't feel it, but I know it
- 33:03makes a massive difference because I felt it when we turn
- 33:06right off Tower Bridge heading towards Canary Wharf, probably
- 33:10in the 1st 5K. Like really the only spots we
- 33:12had a headwind so the rest of it's helping us.
- 33:17I think warm's the right word, but I felt as if every time
- 33:21there was plain water on the side, I think it was staggered.
- 33:242 1/2 KS from personal drinks. I was pouring bottles on myself
- 33:28and even just reflecting to the half in Ghent, which might have
- 33:33been three to five degrees. I've I personally feel more
- 33:37comfortable in that climate, but not at all an excuse because
- 33:42there's plenty of athletes that perform well.
- 33:43There were two world records that went down, but that's just
- 33:47how I felt. So how did you both find out
- 33:51that they'd broken to? Like do you get told pretty
- 33:53quickly or? Yeah, that was that was my first
- 33:57question when I crossed the line what what the winners run.
- 34:01It was like, like it was saying like in you couldn't have asked
- 34:06them better weather than that in London.
- 34:08It was, it was like in terms of London weather, it was, it was
- 34:11the best weather I've seen. So like compared to a year
- 34:16before and stuff. I think that's what made me so
- 34:19upset because it's like when we're going to get that again in
- 34:23a London Marathon. So.
- 34:26But yeah, it was, yeah, I'm still trying to put my head
- 34:30around it. The splits, like they were
- 34:32running and stuff because like London, like of course he's very
- 34:36quick and stuff. But then I think the biggest
- 34:38thing I take away is he put 7 minutes on chapter guys and I'm
- 34:43like, I can't, I still can't understand that.
- 34:46Or like he's spending nearly 7 minutes on Patty Devon PLA.
- 34:49Like like how like these are like these are guys who you put
- 34:54Patty Devon, you're if he did, you're a marathon.
- 34:56He's winning it like he can win it.
- 34:58So it's like, I just, yeah, I just, I just hope those two are
- 35:05one in 4 billion people like the POG of like, you know, just,
- 35:11they're just that good. I just really, really, really
- 35:14hope. But I still just can't.
- 35:17I just don't understand to be honest.
- 35:21The Kajal sure one's just the madness.
- 35:23It just like changes everything you think you understand about
- 35:27Marathon and like how do you do that on debut?
- 35:30He'd better not do another. I would stop if I was him.
- 35:33I would never do another marathon.
- 35:34Like, what is the point? But when he, when he's.
- 35:40No one runs their best on debut. It's like literally no one.
- 35:44No one nails the marathon on debut.
- 35:46So he could only get better then you'd think.
- 35:52Yeah. He's scary scary.
- 35:59Well, that's London for this year at least.
- 36:02You guys, you had a positive experience like Tim, how's how's
- 36:06it compare to you obviously run the world champs in September
- 36:09gone kind of at the pinnacle of the sport alongside that's it's
- 36:13perhaps London Marathon. How do the two experiences
- 36:17compare or differ? I really liked London because
- 36:22felt like you're running for yourself at the end of the day
- 36:25as well. Whereas Tokyo, particularly with
- 36:28the like having Liam beside me and the prep that we'd had with
- 36:31our injuries and you're both wearing the green and gold in
- 36:34the same group that was, we were honestly running as a team that
- 36:37day and we're trying to survive. Whereas like out there at
- 36:40London, like you, yeah, you run for yourself.
- 36:43You can possibly qualify for future events.
- 36:46You can, you know, it's it's it's a race at the end of the
- 36:49day. The crowds were just as good.
- 36:54You had the, I remember crossing Tower Bridge and just looking up
- 36:57like I wasn't even worried about the race.
- 36:59I was actually just being a tourist.
- 37:01So there are a few moments like that.
- 37:03And yeah, I, I actually thought I was like, man, it's going to
- 37:07be hard to run marathons now. Like I've run Tokyo World Champs
- 37:11and then straight into London. So I've spoiled myself a bit and
- 37:15I've probably set the bar a bit high for a while in terms of
- 37:19running nice marathons. It was, yeah, really incredible.
- 37:22There was only one little silence, but I remember which I
- 37:25was waiting for around Canary Wharf and apart from that you
- 37:29come out of there and there's people everywhere again.
- 37:33London as a race because I've watched it a few times oversea.
- 37:37I've never done it. I said at the beginning I'm
- 37:40going to need some persuading to choose London over the mighty
- 37:44Yamagata Reki then. But yeah, what would you always
- 37:46reckon that is it the best atmosphere of any race on Earth?
- 37:50But how? Yeah.
- 37:51How would you rate it as an actual marathon to choose?
- 37:56It it definitely is, but it definitely is pretty good.
- 38:00But you need so like for example, you know the 211 pack
- 38:05there was George Grassley and Andy Fife.
- 38:08They're like in terms of marathons you've done if you
- 38:13it's unreal atmosphere, but you have to you might be with one
- 38:17other person the whole race. That's the only issue with it.
- 38:23And it's like like next year, like say if I pace it again, I
- 38:27want to make sure I'm pacing a big group of people.
- 38:31But like the 214 group, there was like 30 people.
- 38:34But like the groups in front, it's just scattered.
- 38:37That's the only problem with but they, like Tim was saying that
- 38:40the best bits were when you were under the under the tunnels
- 38:43because you couldn't hear a thing because it was just too
- 38:45loud. But yeah, it's a bit, it's a bit
- 38:49nuts. I think Alfie and I were quite
- 38:51lucky because we were only groups in our little group so we
- 38:54got quite a few shout outs. It's like actually you're
- 38:59saying, I almost think the loneliest place on Earth in
- 39:02running is if you're running in between about 2:15 and 26.
- 39:07It's the only place in virtually any race.
- 39:10If you look at the results, there's never really like it's
- 39:14the same with all these Japanese races.
- 39:16There's two O 6 and then it's maybe top female group or like
- 39:20the top subbelite at 2:15. It's a weird place almost where,
- 39:25yeah, if you're a bit better, you can guarantee any race you
- 39:28go, you're going to be in the front group with the pacemakers.
- 39:31It's actually so hard to find. I was looking even like planning
- 39:34my next race schedule, just looking over any race in the
- 39:37world, it's to find a group that goes maybe 64 to 66 through
- 39:42half. It's pretty rare.
- 39:44It's like, yeah, it's hard to know how to do it because I
- 39:47think it's such a big factor having that group versus running
- 39:50solo. Like I mean that could be worth
- 39:522 minutes easily over the marathon, the perceived effort
- 39:55there. 6465 How many people did it?
- 39:58Like 60,000, like it was a world record and there were five
- 40:01people. Five people out of what is that?
- 40:05I don't even know what percentage wise that is, but
- 40:08like that's the only problem is like you.
- 40:09But then you look at Valencia. I paced Valencia before I paced
- 40:12A2 a group. I swear to God I had 40 guys on
- 40:15the far .40 yards and it's like what?
- 40:18What, Like, So yeah, it's like, I honest like Ji, if you will.
- 40:24All right. The shouts for you would be
- 40:26insane. You may be too much though.
- 40:30I feel like I just lose my head. I'd be.
- 40:32I'd drop A5 KPV and then absolutely pop.
- 40:36This is too good. Yeah, I think my biggest take
- 40:41away from London was it was actually the week after I was
- 40:44actually quite tipsy in there. British Athletics, like head
- 40:47coach Tom Craigs called me just like, well, to tell me I hadn't
- 40:50made the tea for Euros. But because I was on the
- 40:52rankings from my half and my mark, because, you know, you get
- 40:55points and stuff, That's my first one in five years getting
- 40:59a call. So I was a positive.
- 41:01But again, it was the same call as last time you have made the
- 41:04team, so I'm quite good at that. Is that the call you're
- 41:10expecting? Yeah, that was the call, right?
- 41:12So they're pretty sure that it's only taking 5 out of 6 athletes
- 41:17to Birmingham, which are still big nuts.
- 41:21And it you have they sent us like what's happening?
- 41:24You're staying in a Premier Inn for two days before the race.
- 41:26So they will send was it 30 guys, the World Rd. relays for a
- 41:32four by one team to drop the baton again in Bahamas yesterday
- 41:36and they can't send six guys. And I think the problem is I
- 41:39think 6th place, it was like in terms of rankings, there was
- 41:45like there was like 10 points between me, Ben Connor, Alfie
- 41:49Mantov and Ellis Cross. And of course Ellis Cross ran
- 41:52quicker and Seville, but he didn't do it's, it's like, you
- 41:55know, it's, it's up to the coach, but I would have put my
- 41:57name up there for like a reserve.
- 41:59So if someone did get injured, but they are refusing to take
- 42:03six guys to a home champ, which is a bit that I think that was
- 42:07the most annoying thing. Even if I didn't get selected,
- 42:09they're still not taking 6, which I think is a bit.
- 42:14You know, now pretty much British athletics is like, if
- 42:17there's a time and you've got to run that, that's all they care
- 42:20about it. It just seems like pretty much
- 42:22that's the way. Doesn't matter about the
- 42:24rankings, none of that. They want to make it as
- 42:26difficult as possible, send as little people.
- 42:28So it's almost like, yeah, you don't hit the time, you have no
- 42:31chance with them. So there's that.
- 42:34That's what I find. You name those four guys I've
- 42:36just named how many like Champs Ben Connor's been to You put us
- 42:40in a Birmingham, of course, in a team event.
- 42:42I'm pretty sure we're going to be quite a few Europeans all of
- 42:44like one of us. But yeah, that that's the most
- 42:49upsetting thing about it. Like they're just not taking six
- 42:51and like there's no reason why not really, but.
- 42:56I think it's it's good that you're willing to be like
- 42:59outspoken about it and like just call the spade the spade,
- 43:02because there's probably lots of athletes out there who feel that
- 43:06way, but probably want to also protect their relationship as
- 43:09well. And ultimately that's not going
- 43:11to like change anything at the end of the day.
- 43:13So could like everyone kind of get together because although
- 43:17like some people have been sorted out this time and
- 43:20obviously they've got the results to justify, who knows
- 43:23that a future championships, they might be on the wrong end
- 43:27of it. So it would probably be in the
- 43:29best interest of everyone to kind of try and sit down with
- 43:33British athletics and come to some sort of mutual agreement.
- 43:36Because the Tokyo team there was like they took like half a team,
- 43:40didn't they? Like the 10 Ki think that they
- 43:42only take Cali thackery and no males.
- 43:45And the marathon there was, like, hardly anyone.
- 43:49Well, it was. It was funny when in Tokyo when
- 43:53Julia Patson in one kept got bronze and she she left Britain
- 43:58to go to Uruguay because you couldn't get the time and they
- 44:01got third of world. That was the best thing I've
- 44:03ever seen in terms towards British athletics.
- 44:05I laughed so hard. Because she wasn't a British,
- 44:10she wouldn't have got picked like.
- 44:13She's the. Perfect, perfect example of
- 44:16like, yeah, take your chance on someone.
- 44:18You could come over to bronze. Imagine if they sent you that,
- 44:22like if you were just like Jake. Oh, I'm literally living here.
- 44:25Give me a vest. I.
- 44:27Was saying that it's like I'm ready to go, put me in if a
- 44:31meal. If a meal gets injured, I'll
- 44:33save my house. I'll save my house, just give me
- 44:36the rest. Yeah, but then Jake's like, I
- 44:43know you've got a partnership with like is GB, Adidas or Nike
- 44:47nowadays, whoever they use. You've been getting a Brooks
- 44:54Brooks vest printed. Yeah, yeah, whack a sticker over
- 44:58the time. Well, on to you then.
- 45:03Jake, how was your weekends? Give us a rundown.
- 45:05Again, it was a three day event and you're running on the first
- 45:09day. Yeah, yeah, that was the the
- 45:13biggest challenge was going to be getting through.
- 45:15So it was a 20K leg. It's a pretty much half marathon
- 45:18on day one. And then coming back, recovery
- 45:22day 2, coming back for A13K day three.
- 45:27And the Oh yeah, that half marathon was brutal as well
- 45:32because it was the whole prefecture.
- 45:35So Yamagata literally means in Japanese mountain shape.
- 45:40So like the actual preferences he's called that, you know, this
- 45:43course is going to be brutal. And yeah, it's just rolling
- 45:45hills, ups and downs actually destroys the legs.
- 45:50So then coming back for that third day was horrendous.
- 45:54I, I surprised myself, I I thought maybe coming in based on
- 45:58training, I could maybe knock out absolute best case, maybe
- 46:02310 per K. So like, that's about what's
- 46:07that 60, 663067 minute half marathon kind of shape.
- 46:14I was thinking, yeah, if I absolutely buried myself, I
- 46:16could pull that one out. But actually I think maybe, and
- 46:20I've always wondered this in the the this weird thing where the
- 46:25Japanese national records, all of them actually get smashed
- 46:29during echidom races, but they don't count.
- 46:33So it's like you have every year plenty of Japanese guys running
- 46:3758 minute half marathons, 22K23K.
- 46:40And I've never understood it. I'm like, how, how is it
- 46:42possible? And I think it's purely just
- 46:45because you're effectively running with the pressure of the
- 46:48team. So it's like in a weird way,
- 46:51obviously in a solo race, a marathon, you're giving
- 46:55everything you possibly can, but I felt more pressure in a way
- 47:00where maybe it's like you ease off the pace slightly when
- 47:03you're hurting, like even you think you can go, you think you
- 47:07can't go further. But when it's like you've got
- 47:09this support car behind you shouting out the whole way
- 47:12telling you the split, it's like Shannon, OK, the gaps this
- 47:14you're closing in on the leader. This is this like, let's go,
- 47:17let's go. You always feel like, OK, I
- 47:19cannot let the team down because for everyone, I guess the non
- 47:24elite runners in the race, the non pros, this is pretty much
- 47:27the biggest race of the year for all the amateur runners.
- 47:30So they've trained effectively as a team for a whole year
- 47:33building up to this race. There's like I've got the
- 47:36longest leg of the whole thing that I cannot let the team down.
- 47:40So I actually killed myself there, managed to get the
- 47:42fastest time of my leg. So it came out as it was like
- 47:46307 AK. It's like a 65 mid half
- 47:50marathon, which is way better than I thought considering how
- 47:55little training I'd been doing, how recently I'd sort of come
- 47:57back in. So I was pretty buzzing with
- 47:59that. And then it was just survival,
- 48:02like trying to somehow come back.
- 48:04Because usually you imagine after a flat out half marathon,
- 48:07it's probably a week before you're even attempting a
- 48:11session, like 2 weeks before you're back to normal.
- 48:15I was condensing that down to one day recovery and then
- 48:19another completely flat out effort on the the Wednesday
- 48:23after this Monday half marathon. And yeah, it was, it was like so
- 48:29painful. Just the pure DOMS, like every
- 48:32muscle in my body was just like crippling pain.
- 48:37That was just the warm up. So this is before the race
- 48:39actually started on the day. The day.
- 48:43In between you do just a little 12K shakeout though.
- 48:48Yeah, yeah, that. Was just to.
- 48:50Try and get some normality in the body getting moving.
- 48:53But yeah. And that that that was a
- 48:55struggle on itself. Were you like triple dosing on
- 49:01the no? Meal I was.
- 49:04On everything the I was. On the bicarb, the beetroot, the
- 49:10caffeine, just trying to numb the page.
- 49:12Get get me through that second leg.
- 49:15Do you find you're going to do that before you're?
- 49:17Like so you do a marathon, Why don't you just tell yourself
- 49:20like this is an academic lad? Like it's just 42 K The boys
- 49:24lead a big run here. I've always wondered all I.
- 49:27Need is just a gun because I've always wondered like if you
- 49:32tell. If you get yourself in that
- 49:33mental head face, like you said, like just think like, you could
- 49:37absolutely fly. Yeah, it's it almost doesn't.
- 49:42Look like another level because I, I went on that sort of my
- 49:46second leg, I kind of, I realised I had a couple guys
- 49:51behind me. So we, I picked it up in the
- 49:53lead and a couple guys behind you, a sort of 28 minute in the
- 49:5828 minute 10K range. So pretty rapid.
- 50:02So I knew they were going to be coming at me and I had like a
- 50:0532nd gap and I picked it up. So I just go out hard.
- 50:09And I'd actually done a track race 2 weeks before I dropped
- 50:13that 1459. It's a flat out track race.
- 50:17I split the exact same 1459 through 5K already.
- 50:22Like my legs are absolutely gone.
- 50:24And this is like a gradual uphill as well.
- 50:27And I can't, I can't explain how cooked I was at 5K.
- 50:31Like nothing left. So then yeah, if that had been a
- 50:35solar race, like I think I'd have been slipping to three,
- 50:38like three 20s, like completely pop.
- 50:42But managed to rally and actually, yeah, average 302 for
- 50:46the whole leg, picking up, yes, a few little sub threes at the
- 50:51end to yeah, completely bury myself.
- 50:55Just new realm of pain. It was yeah, different kind of
- 50:58feeling to any race I've done before.
- 51:00And it's different type of marathon, which I mean, I've
- 51:03basically blacked out in marathons before.
- 51:06That's there's nothing new. But this is more just my body
- 51:10was just like reaching a point where it shouldn't be out of
- 51:15reach like based of all the training recently, all the the
- 51:17sessions are done shouldn't have been possible.
- 51:20So it's it's quite cool to see that almost you can do more than
- 51:25like you. You should physically be out.
- 51:27It's like your your body puts a limiter, but you can, I guess,
- 51:30override that If if the the the men to side if you really just
- 51:35like want to give it everything, which I guess when you've got
- 51:37the whole team, yeah, relying and you've got to.
- 51:40So is it All in all, great? Yeah, great fun, but horrendous
- 51:46storms for an entire week. I'm still feeling the after
- 51:49effect now. Even if you if.
- 51:52You took those two. Races and put them like 2 weeks
- 51:54apart and said you ran A20K at 30 sevens and 13 K at 30 twos.
- 52:00The 13 K is almost better by itself, let alone the fact that
- 52:06you've run 20K20 like 48 hours prior.
- 52:12Yes, it almost doesn't make sense.
- 52:14I mean, I'm I'm like the ultimate car always.
- 52:17So I think even in my absolute best shape, I'm like 250 fives
- 52:22are still very hard for me. So and that's a completely
- 52:26fresh, perfect training all of that.
- 52:29So it is mad that yeah, I guess, I guess that's it.
- 52:33I've. Got to somehow.
- 52:34All I need is in my marathon, a support car following me the
- 52:38entire way, calling out the splits as we go, telling me to
- 52:42stop being a pussy and and give it my hold for the team.
- 52:46There we go, job done. You just need to tell yourself
- 52:49the children's on your. Part Yeah, yeah, that's it.
- 52:55They're they're coming for me. I've got to deliver the grids.
- 53:00Is that your first proper academic?
- 53:01Experience. Then, since being over there,
- 53:05I've done a. Couple before I've done actually
- 53:07the highest level 1. It's like the pro team, one
- 53:13company team. So like against Toyota, Honda,
- 53:16all of them as a a club team with my Tokyo club mates.
- 53:22So that was actually a funny thing with that one.
- 53:25They've got a rule where you can only have one foreigner on each
- 53:28team and that foreigners designated the shortest leg.
- 53:32So it's basically me and 30 Kenyans who've all ran the 27
- 53:38flat for 10K. At least you're like, we had
- 53:40Olympic medalist, world champions in there.
- 53:43Absolute joke. And I'm running like 30 minute
- 53:4610K behind them. So actually, yeah, this, this is
- 53:50a bit more chill versus that. So how did the team do?
- 53:53Overall, did they like qualify or do what they needed to do So
- 53:58this was? This was just a.
- 53:59Flat Championship. So it was just purely just all
- 54:03in on this one. We managed to 70th year, we
- 54:07actually broke the course record by 10 minutes.
- 54:11The only sort of problem, another team broke it by 16
- 54:15minutes. So we we gave it everything and
- 54:19still somehow came away with second.
- 54:22Unbelievable. You are the.
- 54:24Kajal Chair in this case, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:28But all of that, just a second place gutting.
- 54:34And usually now the conversation.
- 54:36Would turn to like the standard, oh, what's that coming next?
- 54:39But I do have the Launceston running festival fields up in
- 54:43front of me and I can see two names on there which are looking
- 54:47quite familiar. So are we?
- 54:50Are we able to confirm nor deny if those names are legitimate to
- 54:53be on there? As far as yeah, this.
- 54:58Week's going Yeah, this stage, yes.
- 55:06And I guess, yeah, the, the big race enhancement has been
- 55:09announced by the organizers. Yeah, I'm, I'm on that list.
- 55:15Anything from now is just way too hot in Japan.
- 55:17So this is Aussie season now. I'm, I'm heading over there.
- 55:21Tim, I'll see you there. Will you do Goldie?
- 55:25Again, no. No race.
- 55:27Announcement. Yeah.
- 55:28Well, yeah, it needs to be seen. All I'll say to listeners.
- 55:32It's it's the convenient for the Aussie winter round.
- 55:35That's that's probably the next one.
- 55:37It seems to be a popular one for the.
- 55:38Japanese that that sort of Aussie racing calendar.
- 55:44Will you have interest at Gold Coast then?
- 55:48Well, it I'm. Just trying to remember the time
- 55:51gap. So I got a weird next two
- 55:53months. I'd really love to run Sydney
- 55:57Marathon. I'm not confirmed yet but I've
- 55:59been pretty. I've said that publicly.
- 56:01Like I'd like to start it so that then if you get work back
- 56:04from there I'd like to run a fast half, whether it be Gold
- 56:08Coast or Lonnie. I've also been a bit naughty and
- 56:11I've got five days at the World Cup in Vancouver with Dad, two
- 56:14weeks before Gold Coast. So all of a sudden it's like I'm
- 56:18probably a bit banged up from London, got the World Cup in
- 56:21June. I'll get something done
- 56:24somewhere, I just don't really know what yet.
- 56:26And then Sydney's probably after that.
- 56:29So still working it out. I'll probably know more in two
- 56:33weeks once I get back training. So where you're flying to?
- 56:38Jake, where's the base point? Because I don't think you can
- 56:41fly straight into Tasmania, can you for?
- 56:45Me no. I can go direct.
- 56:48I can go yeah, yeah, yeah. Tokyo straight in easy money.
- 56:55Like can you go? Is that actually?
- 56:56The thing? Surely not, yeah.
- 57:00Unless I've unless I've got my flight run, let me go.
- 57:03I'm not sure you're going on one system.
- 57:06I really, yeah. Yeah, hang on, Am I going to the
- 57:09right place? I've I've booked it wherever it
- 57:11is. I can barely get to Brisbane
- 57:13Direct. It's.
- 57:14Like 1 flight a day. Yeah, the charm not too.
- 57:19Fair I may. Have a little, I may have a
- 57:22little stopper from Melbourne. I've not plugged it in in a lot
- 57:26of detail. The the flight has been booked.
- 57:28Who knows, I might end up in Melbourne.
- 57:31I might get to Launceston. Either way I'm I'm running
- 57:33somewhere in Australia next month.
- 57:38Do you know the Japanese? Guys on that start list, Jake,
- 57:41because there's a few of them in Launceston, Utah.
- 57:44Yeah, yeah. Taruki.
- 57:46Shimada. Yeah, it's like.
- 57:49I don't know, Joe Brett, Lana, the Japan running news.
- 57:53Yeah, he's the agent for all the Japanese boys, So.
- 57:58And actually, Ethan Shuli, you know who ran 207, who's also in
- 58:04Tokyo, He is a cart horse, that guy, because.
- 58:06I know he said he got ill, but like how can he run 1350?
- 58:10But 207? It's still goes through me like
- 58:14like he's 207, so much better than 13, but it's weird.
- 58:18He's almost. Become a Japanese because that's
- 58:21almost like them. The Japanese see it as you can
- 58:23run 1350 and then they'll translate that to a 207.
- 58:29So he's doing 8 times in a row. Yeah, Brian Faye went to.
- 58:34Japan around 1330. But then over a marathon surely
- 58:38would absolutely smack him, yeah?
- 58:42It's they are the ultimate. Quarter Horses, the Japanese
- 58:45crazy conversion but yeah, now he's, I think Brett's organised
- 58:50all the Japanese boys coming over.
- 58:51It should be rapid and they're going for yeah 60 flat something
- 58:56course record. Have you run it before Tim or
- 58:59not? So the race has been.
- 59:01Improved like every year for probably the last five.
- 59:04I think last year was the first year it was a gold label and I
- 59:08was like still injured or coming back then, so I didn't race
- 59:12that. I think even this year I think
- 59:14it's slightly changed, like it just keeps getting faster.
- 59:19It's not even a problem, but there's a hill at both ends and
- 59:23it just like the race is so good.
- 59:24They just do everything they can to cut it out and it's now I
- 59:27think the biggest hill is just gone completely and they take us
- 59:31further out I think on the first side of the river.
- 59:35So it's pretty much carpet flat, usually fog and 1°.
- 59:42And the tricky thing is it's it's like what you said.
- 59:45So whatever they decide, the leaders are going to be going.
- 59:49If you're not running that, you're solo on a highway.
- 59:54Yeah, so. It's like 60 flat.
- 59:56That's what it is, yeah. So it's an.
- 59:59Interesting race like that, but I.
- 1:00:00Think when you look at the start list like there should be enough
- 1:00:04of us around that Hopefully a good second group because I
- 1:00:07think the winners, like you said, it'll, it'll be something
- 1:00:10pretty silly. Yeah, it's pretty startless.
- 1:00:15That's not very, very good. Yeah.
- 1:00:19I'm trying to get an entry for Gold Coast.
- 1:00:21Jake, so maybe see you there if your itinerary takes you that
- 1:00:25way, we'll. See what happens.
- 1:00:29Is that for the full or not for the half?
- 1:00:33Oh OK, I did. That'd be good.
- 1:00:38What else have we got to have any?
- 1:00:39Anything else you boys wanted to speak about?
- 1:00:41It's it's sad that the the series comes to a conclusion,
- 1:00:44really. I've had a lot of fun.
- 1:00:48It's. I was actually thinking out of
- 1:00:50my job today. It had felt like a while since
- 1:00:52we'd all spoken and I was actually genuinely keen to just
- 1:00:55catch up and not even chat running.
- 1:00:57So yeah, it's been good. We've got some listener
- 1:01:02questions. Actually I.
- 1:01:03Shouldn't forget that Jake Smith.
- 1:01:06We should say what's next for you, seen as the boys have just
- 1:01:09spoken. I was going to bring it out like
- 1:01:11Jake was. Talking about his he's just
- 1:01:13race. We have this thing called Welsh
- 1:01:15castles. Relay star of June.
- 1:01:19It's 20. Lakes from the top.
- 1:01:21Of North Wales down to the South, you go through castles,
- 1:01:24the health and safety, let's just say you are running on
- 1:01:28basically just, you know, the A roads basically.
- 1:01:31Remember, Jake, like just the normal roads.
- 1:01:33So you're running over mountains at six mountain stages.
- 1:01:36I've got 2 horse records and two Dragons from the last two years.
- 1:01:41Let's just say a volunteer died a few years ago, got hit by a
- 1:01:45car. They're going 60 mph 1000 on
- 1:01:48these roads and you're just running.
- 1:01:50It's a big piss off on the Saturday.
- 1:01:53That's that's Welsh castles relay.
- 1:01:56But I think I'm going to try and chase.
- 1:02:00The thing is I was Tim was getting my head about coming to
- 1:02:03Launceston because I saw one around the sub 6130 because I
- 1:02:08still could get into, you know, the world Half team because I
- 1:02:13went to the trials. I just need the time.
- 1:02:15But I think it's just a bit too soon because I mean, I have to
- 1:02:18give a shout out to the guy, but bad courage I ran with this
- 1:02:21morning. Heart rate is still a bit
- 1:02:23higher. Legs feel like crap.
- 1:02:25It's my third run back. Never take any more than three
- 1:02:29days off. I took six days off.
- 1:02:31Worst decision of my life, but what I needed.
- 1:02:34But yeah, so I ran with Claridge and he wanted me to tell you
- 1:02:37all, give him a follow. He's pacing Oslo and Stockholm,
- 1:02:41Diamond League. So he's a, he's the Diamond
- 1:02:45League pacer. He's very nice.
- 1:02:46But yeah, so maybe go to Germany for 1/2 in June, but I was so
- 1:02:53close there booking that flight to Australia.
- 1:02:55We'll be a Gold Coast Jake before.
- 1:02:59You fully throw the idea away with that.
- 1:03:03Even traditionally it's probably a tiny bit slower than
- 1:03:07Launceston, but only just because of weather.
- 1:03:10Just being on the coast, you can sometimes get the wind.
- 1:03:14Do you know, Jake, what they wanted in last year 61 low was
- 1:03:17actually it's. Always there at 6:00.
- 1:03:19Yeah, he's done his research. Yeah, he's.
- 1:03:22Interested. It it.
- 1:03:25We don't go on through this. Series.
- 1:03:27But go on, it's. Maybe run it?
- 1:03:30Back. Come on.
- 1:03:30It's always first weekend in July.
- 1:03:32So even if it's a last minute week before thing, you're always
- 1:03:36welcome. It's an error from my place.
- 1:03:38First week of July. Stay here.
- 1:03:40Yeah, that's what I mean. It's it's yeah.
- 1:03:44Changes things. Basically the German.
- 1:03:47Races end of June and I was one in 6110 and only three guys ran
- 1:03:52under 6. I need 18 seconds.
- 1:03:55If you guys can promise me there'll be 18 seconds in Gold
- 1:03:58Coast, I will look at the flight.
- 1:04:03Just don't go through the Middle East I'll.
- 1:04:04Probably go through Hong Kong if you do, Andy.
- 1:04:09Buchanan won last year. In 6108 and he was followed by
- 1:04:13610961116118. And he's also around like. 60.
- 1:04:2230 and probably has been in shape to run faster.
- 1:04:26So it's like it's quick, but it is probably like add a bit extra
- 1:04:30on the European time, yeah. Yeah, just just rethinking.
- 1:04:35That bear term, aren't you being responsible for the hard sell of
- 1:04:39making them travel across the world?
- 1:04:41Yeah, yeah. Don't want to otherwise.
- 1:04:43It could be panned for free drinks and whatnot afterwards.
- 1:04:48They. Have an elite, elite.
- 1:04:50Like elite? What do you call like elite
- 1:04:54assistance? Yeah.
- 1:04:56Yeah, very big side of that. And yeah, like all fair, I can
- 1:05:03absolutely, you know, link you up with that and you can follow
- 1:05:06that up and see what happens up that alley.
- 1:05:09Question where is Gold Coast? Australia an hour South.
- 1:05:13Of Brisbane, OK, so it's a southern part.
- 1:05:16Australia E Northern. On the East Coast so.
- 1:05:23Just get it back. It's.
- 1:05:27Australia, That's all you need to know.
- 1:05:28It's it's a long way and it's done on that, but Skyscan has
- 1:05:32gone. In the last couple of years.
- 1:05:36Yeah, if you if. You guys are doing it and I know
- 1:05:39there's a group. I would be more keen.
- 1:05:42It's like. Though it'll be like the second
- 1:05:44one system, yeah, it'll be stacked.
- 1:05:47And we got a lot like all our merging Rd. runners that are
- 1:05:50like let's say low 28, mid 28, younger fellas off the track,
- 1:05:54step up and usually debut there and go quite well, run 102 and
- 1:05:58whatnot. So there's always plenty of
- 1:06:01people running well. See your boys in Australia.
- 1:06:06There we go. Job done.
- 1:06:08Series right? Series 2.
- 1:06:10Bring it on. Well, whilst we're on it, Jake,
- 1:06:13there's. An there's a 50K in Perth in
- 1:06:16June which pays 5 grand if you can take Dean's course records
- 1:06:22of 327 pace. I actually just.
- 1:06:26Heard you talking about. This on the pod was it last week
- 1:06:32that did piqued my interest. I feel like that's it's an easy
- 1:06:36long run surely? Haven't you?
- 1:06:38How is the flight? Haven't you run?
- 1:06:40Faster for a 50K? Yeah, yeah, I think.
- 1:06:43In training, I've I've probably knocked out and I guess that
- 1:06:47wins for life. That's what I was going to say.
- 1:06:49That was 67 K. What, 335?
- 1:06:55Yeah, I'm. I'm tempted.
- 1:06:56I'm tempted. Yeah, a little detour over
- 1:07:00there. It's going to happen.
- 1:07:02Let's. See, what other questions have
- 1:07:03we got people asking about the perfect conditions?
- 1:07:07You've spoke to that, Tim. With years like being.
- 1:07:12So close to PB, is there anything that you would change
- 1:07:15for the next block where you feel like you can easily
- 1:07:17convert? It some what I.
- 1:07:21Think we spoke about this leading into the race, like I'm
- 1:07:23more process driven. So I actually really don't mind
- 1:07:27about what that number says on the clock in terms of I did a
- 1:07:32few similar sessions which kind of led me with how those
- 1:07:37sessions went that had improved and the training block in
- 1:07:41general had gone well. I wouldn't mind exploring
- 1:07:45possibly higher weekly kilometers.
- 1:07:48Like what happens if I go up to 222 thirty, Who knows, it might
- 1:07:53cook me or go up to higher carbs.
- 1:07:57They're things I'll talk about with my coach.
- 1:07:59But predominantly I think things went the right way.
- 1:08:05Probably just need to keep trying and you get you know you
- 1:08:08might get the day that it clicks.
- 1:08:12Makes sense? With the depth in UK running
- 1:08:16right now, could the US style Olympic trial race work?
- 1:08:21Yeah, that was. That was that.
- 1:08:24Was also what I think. They all all the Brits had such
- 1:08:26good days and because I had AI struggled, it makes the gap look
- 1:08:30so much bigger. Whereas you know, the last year
- 1:08:32I beat Phil Jack Rowe, Johnny Mallard because they had tougher
- 1:08:36days. I had a good day.
- 1:08:39It is exceptional. Like that's like I said brought
- 1:08:43up why wouldn't you take 6 guys to European champs when you see
- 1:08:46the depth we have? And it I like well in London
- 1:08:54this year because like Tim's, Tim and I said we didn't apart
- 1:08:58from Wayne and he saw Phil, we saw no one else in front of us.
- 1:09:01So it wasn't actually, it didn't feel like we were racing them.
- 1:09:04I felt like we were in our own complete different bubble.
- 1:09:08I mean, I paced the Olympic trials when I was in Kew Gardens
- 1:09:11in 2021 and that was really, really cool.
- 1:09:16I mean, America just do it better.
- 1:09:18Like that's why they're so far ahead of us because they give us
- 1:09:22give them the opportunities. And it does really annoy me
- 1:09:24because if you look at that athlete we have now coming up to
- 1:09:29the marathon and we're all the same age.
- 1:09:31We're all 2728. All the guys you've named what,
- 1:09:35how do we make it to the next level?
- 1:09:37And like if you look Paddy P or Jack, where do they train
- 1:09:40America? No one wants to train in the UK
- 1:09:42anymore. Everyone wants to hit the UK
- 1:09:45unless you go to Leeds or Batsy. Batsy is quite good for a group,
- 1:09:49but if you're not in Leeds, where else do you go?
- 1:09:52In the UK? You go elsewhere because there's
- 1:09:54better opportunities and that's what is really annoying me
- 1:09:58because I do feel like I know the UK is quite shit for running
- 1:10:02itself. But if you put like on the Leeds
- 1:10:05Canal, if you had Phil, Alex, Jack, Say me, Emil, Jake Ranch,
- 1:10:11if you had us just actually going for it on that canal, like
- 1:10:15how fit we would get. But so I am thinking of doing
- 1:10:20maybe I've already messaged Phil after race, going up to Leeds
- 1:10:23and doing a few long runs for them because in order for me to
- 1:10:26get better, I need to train with someone better.
- 1:10:31So yeah, so, but it's just the opportunities here or that's the
- 1:10:34problem. Going back to the.
- 1:10:39Like the US trials thing, I know for you guys as athletes, it's
- 1:10:45all about athletic performance and like qualifying for these
- 1:10:49teams and like doing what you can to qualify.
- 1:10:52But from the outside for like fans and spectators, drama sells
- 1:10:58and more eyes on the sport probably eventually leads to
- 1:11:01more cash in the sport. Because right now maybe it seems
- 1:11:04like those at the very top who are almost unrelatable, as we're
- 1:11:09talking about with the sub, do maybe they're starting to get
- 1:11:12some decent cash and good deals. But be nice if that flowed all
- 1:11:17the way through like the elite fields.
- 1:11:20Yeah, So like the fact. Tim has to get a job still
- 1:11:24confuses me like he's just run at 2:09 and he starts a world
- 1:11:28champs last year and I'm not trying like well, I really I
- 1:11:31loved him to bits, but how can he not be a professional guy?
- 1:11:36That's what that's what infuriates me a bit because you
- 1:11:42look at the sport of football, you look at the sport of like
- 1:11:45cycling and stuff, it's like how can all.
- 1:11:48These League, One league. Two players who are sport
- 1:11:50running and that we are shaped, we are so shit and I've seen
- 1:11:53I've watched them play football and they cannot play football.
- 1:11:55But how can someone of teams level not have to get a part
- 1:12:00time like part time job? That's what annoys me and I
- 1:12:03think again, it's the same sort of thing, how much money London
- 1:12:07Marathon will give it to these top guys just for turning up.
- 1:12:09Like honey, Mo Farah got paid 500 K just to do half the London
- 1:12:14Marathon. What?
- 1:12:14Like OK, he's a great athlete, but why is he getting that much?
- 1:12:17Give it to give some money to Tim so he can focus on the year
- 1:12:21of running and recover and get to the next level.
- 1:12:25But running is just behind which, yeah, I really want to
- 1:12:30sort it out what I've done because what is it exact same
- 1:12:33things like again in British athletics, like Keely
- 1:12:37Hodgkinson. All these top guys.
- 1:12:39She she has so much money, she doesn't need funding of British
- 1:12:42athletics like all these top guys, Zano Hughes, they are the
- 1:12:46top of their level. They don't need any funding
- 1:12:48anymore because they have all the sponsors.
- 1:12:49Give it to the guys who are coming up and who can't start
- 1:12:53with so many guys can't get to these races because they don't
- 1:12:56have the money. So like for example, Ines, who
- 1:12:59one of my best mates who trains with Gav before she as she
- 1:13:02before she got on Nike build Nike, Gav and I, I would drive a
- 1:13:06training Gav would take her to every race because she couldn't
- 1:13:09afford to get to these races. She's now three times European
- 1:13:11champ. Why weren't British Heather Legs
- 1:13:14giving her the funds to help her to get to these races?
- 1:13:19But it's just who you know who's the best, and it's annoying.
- 1:13:22It's really annoying. It's quite backwards in the
- 1:13:26sense that. Well, those at the very top
- 1:13:29obviously deserve to be paid. But to those who are stepped
- 1:13:32down, who are the ones who are going to be making that step if
- 1:13:35they have the support, isn't it? And without support, it's hard
- 1:13:38to make that step. Yeah.
- 1:13:42So. Badly.
- 1:13:43Marketed running, it's just like you think the most participated
- 1:13:47sport on earth, literally highest participant number of
- 1:13:50any sport, yet it's horrendous viewership in terms of like an
- 1:13:55engagement in the top level. So like I just think out of any
- 1:13:59of any sport you look at, there's so much better
- 1:14:01storytelling, marketing, all of that around.
- 1:14:04It was like you just don't care about any of the runners.
- 1:14:07You know nothing about them. You like, how are you meant to
- 1:14:10get behind them? How are you meant to follow
- 1:14:11them? So there's just no money in it
- 1:14:14that way. I give, I give a lot of credit
- 1:14:16to you, Jake, because. I think you are now going to
- 1:14:17probably be the reason why stay in a few years, someone of Tim's
- 1:14:21level gets money because you're made.
- 1:14:22You have made running bigger, like and like you have certainly
- 1:14:26made running bigger, which helps people of like of Tim's level.
- 1:14:31But if it wasn't say you didn't start this running would still
- 1:14:34would probably be even worse. Like like you have just made the
- 1:14:38sport bigger and it's like how like how else?
- 1:14:42Like the worst thing is a lot of influences in the UK get bad
- 1:14:45Rep, but they at the end of the day, they are making running
- 1:14:49bigger. They are allowing for people of
- 1:14:51our level, like of all of our levels get sponsored.
- 1:14:54So why are we giving them a lot of like?
- 1:14:57Why are we giving it like it's confusing, but this is the only
- 1:15:01way running is going to through your YouTube and thank you.
- 1:15:04But we need to get it bigger because no, no, no, I'm I.
- 1:15:09Appreciate that. I know, I literally.
- 1:15:10Did it for that reason, because you see, as in it's so hard to
- 1:15:14make a career in it that yeah, nowadays you can run a sub 210
- 1:15:17and still be like an amateur runner effectively, like having
- 1:15:21to get a job, which is crazy. So I was like, the only way I
- 1:15:24can live like a Pro is by going the YouTube route, like
- 1:15:29showcasing the training and stuff, build the audience that
- 1:15:31way because yeah, it's just. And I think in a way, the reason
- 1:15:35my channel is maybe growing so quickly is because running is
- 1:15:39so, so badly marketed that it's so easy to stand out with some
- 1:15:44bang average videography. Me just chatting away at a
- 1:15:47camera like a little GoPro that I've bought.
- 1:15:51Somehow it's become like the most viewed running channel on
- 1:15:54earth. It's insane.
- 1:15:56Like there's there's no way it should be.
- 1:15:59I just think that it's so badly done from the top and there's no
- 1:16:04investment for any of the the brands and stuff should be
- 1:16:07putting money into giving people like storytelling platform like
- 1:16:11how the UFC does. It's like it shouldn't
- 1:16:13necessarily be on the individual because yeah, it's hard to do if
- 1:16:17you're trying to balance full time working stuff to create
- 1:16:21that content and stuff and put yourself out of there.
- 1:16:23But I think that's the only way it's going to grow.
- 1:16:25If you actually care about the runner, you know about them,
- 1:16:29therefore you want to watch them race, you know?
- 1:16:32Yes. It's mad.
- 1:16:34I'm I'm very. Lucky well.
- 1:16:36To all those viewers, please eat and don't do what I did and get
- 1:16:40red ass because it was a very hard time.
- 1:16:41But I'm very lucky because in terms of sponsors, I think like
- 1:16:45like I said, for every race I stand to, it's like I did that
- 1:16:48thing on Instagram when 23, I was just trying to get to a race
- 1:16:5024 making start. Lanes 25 win.
- 1:16:54The national medals and this year I've like got a call off a
- 1:16:57British culture. I'm very lucky because of my
- 1:17:00story. But like, again, it's like you
- 1:17:02said, like I just don't get how, like I said, like Tim, people of
- 1:17:07his level, like it just confuses me because if we compare to
- 1:17:12football where promotion championship, like relegation,
- 1:17:17we're like whispers in a minute. We're like struggling, but we're
- 1:17:20there. But it's just.
- 1:17:22An interesting. Point.
- 1:17:24As well, like globally. I did have a quick look, I think
- 1:17:29come rank like 400 and 30th or something.
- 1:17:32So to be honest, it's it's really nowhere.
- 1:17:35So like all these I guess companies?
- 1:17:38In in the world scheme. Of running, it's just two and
- 1:17:42nine's not what 2 and 9 used to be anymore.
- 1:17:44And I'm completely OK with that. Just got to get better.
- 1:17:48That's half the challenge, right?
- 1:17:50Is the the needles moving like 159's now The world record?
- 1:17:55Yeah. Just got to work with the times.
- 1:17:56I'm patient and I'll obviously keep, you know, chipping away
- 1:18:01and I'm. I'd love to be pro like, you
- 1:18:03know, full time running one day. But yeah, I've got AI.
- 1:18:08Don't think it's worth getting grumpy about either.
- 1:18:11Just got to put a head down. Andy Buchanan, by the way, Andy
- 1:18:15Buchanan ran 2/06/22, our national record while working a
- 1:18:18job as a school teacher. But then you're OK.
- 1:18:23You see your top 4? 100 How many players are in the
- 1:18:25Premier League? 400 yeah. 400 Yeah, we're.
- 1:18:29Making how much money does the print pull?
- 1:18:31A year. If we're the equivalent of
- 1:18:33football, it's it's an interesting.
- 1:18:36Topic yeah, yeah, but it's it's going to be.
- 1:18:41Running will get even bigger. When we all stop.
- 1:18:42Running will probably be one of the biggest sports and if you're
- 1:18:45in the top 2000, you're probably you're going to be pro.
- 1:18:48Yeah, it is catching up. It's just why can't it catch up
- 1:18:51quicker? Yeah, you'll, you'll be like.
- 1:18:55The the equivalent. Footballers of the ACS going
- 1:18:57there was no money in my day all.
- 1:19:03Right fellas, that could be. It we've got one more question,
- 1:19:05actually, Jake Barraclough. Are Brooks more or less happy
- 1:19:10with Jake B results? Wait.
- 1:19:14What was the question? Are they?
- 1:19:17Or maybe they're saying, are they?
- 1:19:19More or less happy with signing you, I don't know over.
- 1:19:27Connor, man. I've.
- 1:19:31Missed. The question completely that who
- 1:19:34are Brooks more happy with signing me or are Brooks?
- 1:19:39More. The word isn't more or less, but
- 1:19:42I'm reading it as more or less. Are Brooks more or less happy
- 1:19:47with Jake B results? I I don't.
- 1:19:50Even understand the question. What's it what I mean stupid?
- 1:19:56Is it me? Yes.
- 1:20:01Do you speak what result? I don't.
- 1:20:03I don't. Know what it means the the.
- 1:20:05Result of. Signing you or your results in
- 1:20:09Yamagata is a tough one. This is what I was missing.
- 1:20:12Oh. OK.
- 1:20:13OK. You guys poorly wordy question.
- 1:20:16Come on, I'll take it as that. I feel like they, when they
- 1:20:21signed me, they were keen on breaking into the Japanese
- 1:20:25market because they're very, like, very, very small here.
- 1:20:30You don't see anyone wearing it. So I guess in that sense, put
- 1:20:35Brooks on the map out here. Hopefully.
- 1:20:37Yeah, boosted their presence. So I think they're happy,
- 1:20:41hopefully. And yeah, yeah, we.
- 1:20:43I chat to Brooks. They're very, very good.
- 1:20:46Very, like they give me a lot of freedom, which is perfect for
- 1:20:51how I want to race and do stuff for YouTube and pick what race
- 1:20:55I'm doing. It's yeah, pretty perfect
- 1:20:57partnership, so no complaints there.
- 1:21:02Well, guys, it's been an. Absolute pleasure.
- 1:21:04Thanks so much for giving us. What is it, six weeks of your
- 1:21:08lives and just being so open and vulnerable and taking us inside
- 1:21:13the build to a major marathon or a major acadine.
- 1:21:17Bring on the. Goldie series.
- 1:21:19Let's go. That's why I didn't say but.
- 1:21:21Yeah, I've I've enjoyed it. May or may not be happening.
- 1:21:25It's been great to meet all you. Fellas as well, though I'll miss
- 1:21:28this, so yeah, thanks for having me.
- 1:21:31Yeah, Goldie, it could be. Like the group chat absolutely
- 1:21:34dies and it's one of them. It's never spoken in again.
- 1:21:36Or we could be reigniting it in July I.
- 1:21:41I think. My coach, a screenshot of it,
- 1:21:44Can I do it? He's a hen.
- 1:21:47He's a marathon. And Hong do they?
- 1:21:49Start the same separate. Day.
- 1:21:55I was hoping. Like double up if you want.
- 1:21:57No, I was hoping. Someone wants like go.
- 1:21:58For two or three pace, I just jump on the back.
