- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth and
- 0:16Speaker 2: today we're joined by Brody Seth, Nate, Max Logan, and John.
- 0:20Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 0:22Speaker 2: meat eaters four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking.
- 0:26Speaker 2: There is a prize. Med Eater will donate five hundred
- 0:28Speaker 2: dollars to the conservation organization of the winners. Choosing or
- 0:32Speaker 2: We got a mail bag question today. If you have
- 0:34Speaker 2: a question you want the crew to answer, send your
- 0:36Speaker 2: question to Trivia at the medeater dot com with the
- 0:39Speaker 2: subject line mailbag. This is from Nate Powatsky. He says,
- 0:44Speaker 2: what be harder to hunt a turkey with the nose
- 0:47Speaker 2: of a deer or a deer with the eyes of
- 0:50Speaker 2: a turkey? I think this is really easy.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you wouldn't see a turkey if they had a
- 0:56Speaker 2: nose like a deer.
- 0:57Speaker 4: No, not at all.
- 0:59Speaker 5: They would say, if a turkey smell you and kill Yeah,
- 1:04Speaker 5: I'm a firm believer in that.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Phil, Do you agree?
- 1:07Speaker 3: Yeah, thanks for coming to the expert.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, So, turkey with the nose of a deer. That'd
- 1:12Speaker 2: be hard to kill a deer with the eyes of
- 1:14Speaker 2: a turkey.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I think that exists already pretty much.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, except for I think turkey's like seeing the
- 1:20Speaker 2: UV light range. I don't know if deer have that
- 1:22Speaker 2: super or not. Also from Nate, he says, are non
- 1:26Speaker 2: Randall and Brody episodes easier or do I just choke
- 1:29Speaker 2: against elite competition. I try to like shoot for a
- 1:32Speaker 2: higher Shelby index on those episodes, so I would say
- 1:35Speaker 2: there may be a little easier. Yeah, we want the
- 1:37Speaker 2: Jabronis to have a good time while they're here, so
- 1:40Speaker 2: maybe a little easier, but it's it's still you know.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Where I am Randall, I'm sitting in the spot.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna call him crappy Chubb truck.
- 1:51Speaker 3: On the highways. More looks similar, it is, but I
- 1:54Speaker 3: don't know if it was his or not.
- 1:55Speaker 2: He doesn't miss trivia too often, so I I he's
- 1:58Speaker 2: doing something.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I was going to the about Turnpike Troubadour's concert tonight.
- 2:02Speaker 2: It's right yeah in Bonner. Yeah, gaming, all right, we
- 2:06Speaker 2: have some housekeeping. On last week's episode. We had a
- 2:09Speaker 2: question about the panfish inspired name for these small fat
- 2:12Speaker 2: head minnows that bait shops sell. The correct answer was
- 2:15Speaker 2: crappy minnows, but a few folks wrote in saying that
- 2:18Speaker 2: bait shops in their area call them perch minnows, specifically
- 2:22Speaker 2: in northern Michigan. Now, I couldn't find anything online to
- 2:25Speaker 2: confirm this, but I trust our listeners. And since perch
- 2:28Speaker 2: is a panfish and emailers said that they are these
- 2:31Speaker 2: small fat head minnows being sold, then I'll call that
- 2:33Speaker 2: a right answer. So if you said perch minnows, then
- 2:36Speaker 2: you get that one right. They were did say perch?
- 2:40Speaker 2: Who said purchase? Someone said, yeah, oh no, I've heard
- 2:44Speaker 2: them call he calls them perch minnows. I've never heard that, Okay,
- 2:50Speaker 2: I don't think. Yeah, they used a lot of emerald
- 2:54Speaker 2: chiners where he's at the other forty nine states call
- 2:58Speaker 2: him croppy meadows. All right. The shell be an extra
- 3:00Speaker 2: today is a five, So I'm putting us on perfect
- 3:03Speaker 2: score alert. With that, we're onto the game of trivia.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Play the drop fill. Look, I need to know what
- 3:12Speaker 2: I stay under wind everything?
- 3:15Speaker 6: How's that just tend to win everything?
- 3:25Speaker 2: Game on sus. Question one of the topic is hunting.
- 3:28Speaker 2: This first great question is via Eric Zilgmy, and as always,
- 3:32Speaker 2: this will be multiple choice. Which of these is not
- 3:36Speaker 2: a cavity nesting duck? Is it a wood duck, a
- 3:41Speaker 2: common Merganza, buffalehead or a blue winged teal? Max very
- 3:49Speaker 2: quick to answer, the only player with an answer so far,
- 3:52Speaker 2: Which of these is not a cavity nesting duck? So
- 3:55Speaker 2: three of them are cavity nesters, one of them is not.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Is it a wood duck, a common merganza, a buffalo head,
- 4:03Speaker 2: or a blue winged te Okay, Seth, he's got a
- 4:07Speaker 2: bad marker.
- 4:08Speaker 6: You ever play Wingspan Spencer?
- 4:11Speaker 2: No, somebody gives it to me. I have not played
- 4:14Speaker 2: it yet. My understanding of it is that it's like
- 4:17Speaker 2: kind of complex, so you need to like clear out
- 4:19Speaker 2: an evening and be like, I'm going to learn how
- 4:21Speaker 2: to play Wingspan. I've heard nothing but great things.
- 4:23Speaker 6: We should play it.
- 4:23Speaker 2: That's fun. You're into it.
- 4:25Speaker 6: Big big fan? Okay, like my mom likes it.
- 4:27Speaker 4: What is it exactly?
- 4:28Speaker 6: It's just like a it's a deck builder, it's an
- 4:30Speaker 6: engine builder, a bird game. It's like great art. Every
- 4:33Speaker 6: card has a bird fact on it.
- 4:34Speaker 7: They've got a they've got a fish version called fin span.
- 4:37Speaker 7: They got a dragon worm span.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Okay, I'm into the fish.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Span is the easiest to learn. Worm span is the hardest.
- 4:45Speaker 2: My favorite modern board game besides me Trivia is Ticket
- 4:48Speaker 2: to Ride. I think that's the perfect board game. Love
- 4:51Speaker 2: Ticket to Ride.
- 4:53Speaker 6: The reason I bring it up is on the cards
- 4:55Speaker 6: they have they define the nest of the bird, and
- 4:59Speaker 6: I'm trying to remember all the ducks and their bird
- 5:01Speaker 6: their nest icon.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Which of these is not a cavity nesting duck, wood
- 5:06Speaker 2: duck or ganzer bufflehead teal?
- 5:09Speaker 6: Great game or great gift idea for the game playing
- 5:12Speaker 6: Burder in your life?
- 5:13Speaker 2: You go, Max, give us an update.
- 5:17Speaker 5: So there was a point where I couldn't find any
- 5:21Speaker 5: and then I texted you that afternoon where I was like,
- 5:23Speaker 5: oh I found seven?
- 5:24Speaker 2: How long were they gone?
- 5:25Speaker 6: For?
- 5:26Speaker 2: Like a week? I know, I couldn't. I couldn't find them.
- 5:28Speaker 5: We have two pawnds out back. Couldn't find them on
- 5:30Speaker 5: either pond. And then that afternoon I found seven of
- 5:33Speaker 5: them with them on and I was like, oh, down,
- 5:36Speaker 5: one not too bad, way better than zero. And then
- 5:39Speaker 5: the next day there was all eight there and then
- 5:42Speaker 5: like the last like week week and a half nothing,
- 5:46Speaker 5: And then I walked over to this other pond, probably
- 5:49Speaker 5: a mile mile or so away. There's eight duck lands
- 5:53Speaker 5: and a hen, and so I think they migrated over there,
- 5:56Speaker 5: and they were roughly about that same side. I know,
- 5:59Speaker 5: like they're growing up a little bit.
- 6:00Speaker 3: This time of year.
- 6:01Speaker 8: Like for the last month, you see a lot of
- 6:03Speaker 8: road killed ducks. Yes, yeah, so they might have walked
- 6:07Speaker 8: over there.
- 6:08Speaker 2: It's weird.
- 6:08Speaker 8: There's like hot spots around Boseman where like every day
- 6:12Speaker 8: a new duck gets smashed by someone's guar.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers,
- 6:21Speaker 2: Seth says Buffalhead Logan Buffalhead, Max, blue winged teal, John
- 6:27Speaker 2: Common merganzer Nate Common merganzer Brody, blue winged teal. The
- 6:31Speaker 2: correct answer is the blue winged teal. Damn.
- 6:35Speaker 1: See that Max.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Brody got that one right. Most ducks fall into three
- 6:39Speaker 2: nesting categories, upland, over water or cavity. Upland nesters choose
- 6:45Speaker 2: sites along shallow seasonal wetlands. Examples of upland nesters are
- 6:49Speaker 2: blue winged teal and mallards. Overwater nesters choose sites that
- 6:53Speaker 2: are on floating mats of vegetation like cattails and bullrush.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Examples of overwater nesters are redheads and canvas backs, and
- 7:01Speaker 2: cavity nesters choose sites and hollowed out trees. Other examples
- 7:05Speaker 2: of cavity nesters are golden eyes and black bellied whistling ducks.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Getting to add max about nesting ducks.
- 7:12Speaker 5: That's a great.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Factors right there.
- 7:14Speaker 3: So buffalhead will they'll living tree kid.
- 7:19Speaker 2: And I feel like it's like it's like either a
- 7:20Speaker 2: rotting tree or an abandoned raccoon net, which they might
- 7:24Speaker 2: be in a rotting tree as well. Question two. The
- 7:28Speaker 2: topic is conservation. The blank candle, which shoots a quote
- 7:33Speaker 2: sequence of glowing comets, is banned in eighteen states because
- 7:38Speaker 2: of its tendency for starting fires and having too much fun.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Eighteen states. Still like you having all that fun?
- 7:50Speaker 6: Washington, New York.
- 7:52Speaker 2: The blank candle, which shoots a sequence of glowing comets,
- 7:56Speaker 2: is banned in eighteen states because of its tendency for
- 7:59Speaker 2: starting fire.
- 8:00Speaker 8: We used to escalate our bottle rocket fights by employing these.
- 8:04Speaker 6: Yeah heavy artillery, baby, Yeah have fights with these.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Okay, the room is gonna do well. They all look confident.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Is everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. The
- 8:15Speaker 2: whole room says Roman. The whole room got it right.
- 8:18Speaker 2: It is the Roman candle. Roman candles are heavy tubes
- 8:22Speaker 2: that discharge a series of balls of fire and sparks
- 8:25Speaker 2: into the air. It's the firework that started the twenty
- 8:28Speaker 2: sixteen table rock fire in Idaho and twenty twenty Traverse
- 8:32Speaker 2: fire in Utah. Massachusetts has the strictest firework laws in
- 8:36Speaker 2: the country, as the only state that completely bans the sale, possession,
- 8:41Speaker 2: and private use of all consumer fireworks.
- 8:45Speaker 8: This is the week the fire truck or the firework
- 8:49Speaker 8: boost will start showing up.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Oh yeah, what's a firework boost? Oh the booth, Yeah
- 8:56Speaker 2: they moved. In question three, the topic is cooking. This
- 9:00Speaker 2: next great question is via William Mayer. This pest, which
- 9:05Speaker 2: burrows into the flesh of living animals, was discovered in
- 9:09Speaker 2: South Texas in June twenty twenty six. Just listen to
- 9:13Speaker 2: the podcast.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Specific and.
- 9:17Speaker 2: You don't have to be that specific. If you thought
- 9:20Speaker 2: the answer was like a dragonfly, if you could put
- 9:24Speaker 2: a dragonfly, you don't have to put x X dragonfly
- 9:28Speaker 2: whatever a specific dragonfly would be. This pest which burrows
- 9:33Speaker 2: into the flesh of living animals, was discovered in South
- 9:36Speaker 2: Texas in June twenty twenty six. And we will look
- 9:40Speaker 2: at a picture after this of what that pest does.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It's pretty disgusting.
- 9:46Speaker 8: So we should do aither experiment where we put one
- 9:48Speaker 8: of these things in Giannis's arm.
- 9:51Speaker 2: It's said that they will, you know, be attracted to
- 9:55Speaker 2: humans as well, so they might take t Yanni's arm.
- 10:00Speaker 2: We're gonna look at a photo. If you don't want
- 10:01Speaker 2: to see a deer that's all messed up from this pest,
- 10:04Speaker 2: then maybe look away after the flavored text is read.
- 10:08Speaker 2: This pest, which burrows into the flesh of living animals,
- 10:11Speaker 2: was discovered in South June twenty twenty six. Nay, you
- 10:17Speaker 2: have this one right? Oh yeah, okay, Brody do you
- 10:20Speaker 2: Brody sent the hand super double right, double right? Okay,
- 10:24Speaker 2: you're going very specific, Mac or Max. Do you have
- 10:32Speaker 2: this one right?
- 10:33Speaker 5: Uh no, But I just listened to the podcast like
- 10:36Speaker 5: Tuesday or Wednesday when John, do you have this one right?
- 10:39Speaker 3: I do not what podcast?
- 10:41Speaker 2: Knowing about it? Your podcast.
- 10:45Speaker 8: There's a lot of podcasts.
- 10:48Speaker 2: John was telling me yesterday was our hottest day at
- 10:51Speaker 2: the store all year or ever, just year to date,
- 10:54Speaker 2: year to day. Okay, what's been flying out the door?
- 10:57Speaker 2: What are people like right now?
- 10:59Speaker 9: Well, Go Wear is flying out the door, of course.
- 11:01Speaker 9: We're in tour season now in Bozeman. And a real
- 11:04Speaker 9: hot cellar, which is one that we've had a major
- 11:07Speaker 9: demand for for several years now. The Nome Packing Unicorn
- 11:10Speaker 9: T shirt. Oh, that's finally back. Okay, we've we've had it,
- 11:15Speaker 9: had to have been just about every day without fail.
- 11:17Speaker 9: Somebody asked about what about this one?
- 11:21Speaker 2: I like that one. That's a really good one too. Yep,
- 11:23Speaker 2: we have that.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Yeah, this one's sick.
- 11:27Speaker 9: That one's really attractive to like the Southern.
- 11:29Speaker 8: Folks selling T shirts and more time working on selling
- 11:33Speaker 8: my beard.
- 11:34Speaker 9: That's out in the common area right now, so everybody's
- 11:36Speaker 9: that's the first thing they see when they walk in
- 11:38Speaker 9: the store now, a.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Lot of foot traffic going there. Talk to John, ask
- 11:41Speaker 2: him about maybe a trivia question the upcoming week. Maybe
- 11:45Speaker 2: I'll tell you, maybe not. It's everybody ready. Yeah, I'm
- 11:48Speaker 2: but whatever. Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth and
- 11:52Speaker 2: Logan say botfly, Maxwell says blank fly, John says tick,
- 11:58Speaker 2: Nate says new World screwworm. Brody says, screwworm, they got it.
- 12:03Speaker 2: The correct answer is the screwworm. The screwworm was found
- 12:08Speaker 2: inside a three week old calf, and two more cases
- 12:11Speaker 2: regarding cattle and dogs followed shortly thereafter. Screw Worms, which
- 12:16Speaker 2: are the maggot form of a fly, typically begin their
- 12:19Speaker 2: life in an open wound before drilling into the animal's flesh.
- 12:23Speaker 2: The parasite isn't a food safety issue, but it's largely
- 12:27Speaker 2: managed by the USDA because it has potential to devastate
- 12:30Speaker 2: the food we eat. The twenty sixteen screwworm outbreak in
- 12:34Speaker 2: Florida killed nearly twenty percent of their endangered key deer population.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Here is a picture of one of those key deer.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 12:42Speaker 2: It commonly infects in their head because they go to
- 12:45Speaker 2: an open wound. So if it's the rut and a
- 12:48Speaker 2: buck got messed up by another buck that creates a
- 12:50Speaker 2: natural spot for the screw worms to lay their eggs, is.
- 12:53Speaker 4: That deer still alive?
- 12:55Speaker 2: Like? Yeah, alive? If you find pictures of deer with screwworms,
- 13:03Speaker 2: a lot of times it's in their head or maybe
- 13:05Speaker 2: it's like you know, in their back Ham where they
- 13:07Speaker 2: got caught by another buck. Really disgusting thing. I think
- 13:10Speaker 2: they used to have we eradicated them in like the sixties,
- 13:13Speaker 2: but they still show up sometimes. In the latest case
- 13:16Speaker 2: was just in June in Texas. Question for the topic
- 13:19Speaker 2: is fishing. John Gustiffson and Max Goldman sabotage each other's
- 13:25Speaker 2: gear by cutting fishing nets and severing anchor lines in
- 13:29Speaker 2: the sequel to this nineteen ninety three movie. You could
- 13:37Speaker 2: tell me the sequel or just the regular you know
- 13:41Speaker 2: number one that I'm asking for. Smiling John Gustifson.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I didn't have it, I got it.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And Max Goldman sabotage each other gear.
- 13:51Speaker 8: About a particular joke that it cannot be repeated.
- 13:53Speaker 2: On by cutting fishing nets and severing anchor lines in
- 13:57Speaker 2: the sequel to this nineteen ninety three movie.
- 14:01Speaker 3: I caught catfish on her the other day?
- 14:03Speaker 2: You did, okay? Twenty pounds twenty pounds, twenty pounds caf
- 14:09Speaker 2: in Montana.
- 14:10Speaker 3: No, it is on is on here on?
- 14:12Speaker 2: I think was a giant. Well you you certainly weren't
- 14:15Speaker 2: targeting cats. Would it like a plug or a jig
- 14:18Speaker 2: or what?
- 14:18Speaker 3: Uh, just a jig with a crawler on it.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Do they have flatheads in here on? Or was it
- 14:24Speaker 2: a they do? It was a channel, but they that
- 14:26Speaker 2: is a whopper channel. That's a big that's like in
- 14:29Speaker 2: the ninety ninth sentile of channel catfish in the world.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I'll get a picture up again. Question for the topic
- 14:36Speaker 2: is fishing. John Gustafson and Max Goldman sabotage each other's
- 14:40Speaker 2: gear by cutting fishing nets and severing anchor lines in
- 14:43Speaker 2: the sequel to this nineteen ninety.
- 14:45Speaker 3: That thing, No, I threw them back.
- 14:48Speaker 2: That is a wop.
- 14:50Speaker 7: You can slack that to me seven if we want
- 14:52Speaker 7: to show it on the channel.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Well done, mm incoming Phil perfect, Seth, you have this
- 15:01Speaker 2: one right.
- 15:02Speaker 6: It's like the perfect question. I will never fishing.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Okay.
- 15:08Speaker 6: Spencer was like, what's the question? Brody would get right
- 15:11Speaker 6: this one?
- 15:13Speaker 2: You do not have this one right?
- 15:14Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 15:14Speaker 6: Okay.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Do you have a fishing movie down?
- 15:16Speaker 6: No, it's like a it's like a ocean movie.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Okay, it could be cool. Great, is everybody ready?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Did you put Captain Ron down? Oh?
- 15:28Speaker 2: Okay, Max? Are you ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers?
- 15:34Speaker 2: Seth Seth says grumpier old man logan without an answer.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Max says, rivers, run through it. John without an answer.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Nate says, water world, brody, grumpy old man. The correct
- 15:47Speaker 2: answer is grumpy old men. The sequel is grumpier old men.
- 15:55Speaker 2: We'll take your answer. Grumpy old men and Grumpy Old
- 15:58Speaker 2: Men are set and wabash Shah, Minnesota, a small town
- 16:02Speaker 2: on the Mississippi River southeast of Minneapolis. The film follows
- 16:06Speaker 2: neighbors John and Max, who have a relationship that fluctuates
- 16:09Speaker 2: between friendly and feuding. They also share a love of fishing,
- 16:13Speaker 2: which further complicates matters. In this scene, they are catfishing
- 16:17Speaker 2: on the wedding day of John's daughter and Max's son.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Take it away, Phil, You're.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Right, it's not an important day.
- 16:24Speaker 2: No reason here, hang on, drop the anchor backs, you
- 16:33Speaker 2: cut the anchor, you cut the net, dickhead, I've never
- 16:41Speaker 2: seen this.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Oh, it's so funny.
- 16:43Speaker 2: As in North Dakota. And you love this man.
- 16:45Speaker 6: Yeah, put your glove, John, We're I'll show you how to.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Do it the way he is going. D I want
- 16:54Speaker 1: German working man.
- 16:57Speaker 2: And this is the legendary fish catfish hunter Italy, Oly,
- 17:05Speaker 2: my god, look at this, Holy Moly. Can't get his
- 17:10Speaker 2: tail I got his tail catfish hunter. That was a
- 17:21Speaker 2: flathead sets catfish hunter was a channel cat Look at
- 17:24Speaker 2: that thing. Channel cats don't get much bigger than that
- 17:27Speaker 2: set that is for channel catfish.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Do you think that was a big mark like a walleye.
- 17:33Speaker 10: Well, when it first hit, I was like, oh, that's
- 17:35Speaker 10: a good fish, and I realized then I quickly realized
- 17:37Speaker 10: that it was not a walleye.
- 17:39Speaker 2: What did you think it was until you saw it was?
- 17:41Speaker 10: Did you think maybe, like for a second, I thought
- 17:44Speaker 10: I had like foul hooked a sturgeon or something, because
- 17:47Speaker 10: I know that those are in there, good for you.
- 17:49Speaker 2: But question five, the topic is gear. Motor Trend magazine
- 17:57Speaker 2: says that your vehicle's blank case is quote the single
- 18:01Speaker 2: most important part of four wheel drive.
- 18:06Speaker 6: Dude, I just had some vehicle issues yesterday.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Really is this thing?
- 18:10Speaker 6: No?
- 18:11Speaker 2: No, okay, okay could be worse than it could be.
- 18:14Speaker 2: This thing. Motor Trend magazine says that your vehicle's blank
- 18:18Speaker 2: case is quote the single most important part of four
- 18:23Speaker 2: wheel drive.
- 18:24Speaker 3: I've heard about this a lot, but have I done
- 18:25Speaker 3: anything to it?
- 18:27Speaker 6: Do I maintain it?
- 18:28Speaker 2: No?
- 18:29Speaker 5: But know the single most important part.
- 18:33Speaker 2: You're gonna change you.
- 18:35Speaker 6: Don't know this.
- 18:36Speaker 4: He's kind of unsure.
- 18:37Speaker 2: It looks like Motor Trend magazine says that your vehicle's
- 18:41Speaker 2: blank case is the single most important part of four
- 18:46Speaker 2: wheel drive. Nate and Brody disagree.
- 18:50Speaker 6: Yeah, I just don't know if i'd say this is
- 18:52Speaker 6: the most important.
- 18:54Speaker 2: The most important part. I mean, if you take away
- 18:57Speaker 2: your wheels, hearing, wheel, and gas. It's everybody ready, quick
- 19:04Speaker 2: answers in the room, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Seth and Logan and Maxwell and John and Nate say
- 19:11Speaker 2: transfer Brody says, differential. The correct answer is the transfer case.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Oh how does that feel, Brody?
- 19:19Speaker 1: It feels like I got it wrong?
- 19:20Speaker 2: A transfer case, I look a couple, but we'll get
- 19:25Speaker 2: a score up here, surely not the ones that matter.
- 19:29Speaker 2: A transfer case is what distributes power from the transmission
- 19:32Speaker 2: to both the front and rear axles to give you
- 19:35Speaker 2: four wheel drive or all wheel drive. They can break
- 19:38Speaker 2: due to a lack of fluid, improper use of four
- 19:41Speaker 2: wheel drive, or internal wear over time. If you need
- 19:44Speaker 2: to replace one, expect to pay between two thousand dollars
- 19:48Speaker 2: and six thousand dollars. Has anybody ever had transfer case problems? Yeah? Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 2: you feel like you're getting immediate feedback if you're like
- 19:59Speaker 2: abusing your four wheel drive. You know, if you like
- 20:01Speaker 2: go from really muddy to taking a turn on dry,
- 20:04Speaker 2: you're like.
- 20:04Speaker 10: Oh, what I did have transfer case? Probably what was
- 20:07Speaker 10: the issue in eighty eight Chevy Scottsdale in college and
- 20:10Speaker 10: we we got us three foot snowstorm in Pennsylvania and
- 20:15Speaker 10: we went up on the on the hill to Baja
- 20:17Speaker 10: around and as soon as I pulled off the highway
- 20:20Speaker 10: onto the road, I went to kick it in four
- 20:22Speaker 10: wheel drive.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Wouldn't do it.
- 20:25Speaker 2: It's the time you want to try. Pulled off the.
- 20:27Speaker 10: Road immediately got stuck because I couldn't get in formal drive.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Transfer went out. All right, we are halfway through our
- 20:34Speaker 2: game of trivia. Phil, give us a scoreboard update.
- 20:38Speaker 7: Just a two point spread here between all of our players.
- 20:41Speaker 7: Back of the pack. We've got Logan and John two points, Seth,
- 20:45Speaker 7: Nate and Max have three. Unfortunately, Brody could not transfer
- 20:49Speaker 7: his momentum to continue his perfect game because he has
- 20:54Speaker 7: four points. Now, I'm just waiting for the trans to
- 21:00Speaker 7: be the right answer to the question.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Question six. The topic is hunting. This is our listener
- 21:07Speaker 2: question of the week. Which was won by Eric Keeler.
- 21:11Speaker 2: For sending this great question, Eric is going to get
- 21:13Speaker 2: a one hundred and fifty dollars First Light gift card.
- 21:15Speaker 2: If you want a chance to win the Listener Question
- 21:17Speaker 2: of the Week, then send your question to Trivia at

- 21:28Speaker 2: silhouette that they call quote the outdoor industry's most iconic logo.
- 21:38Speaker 2: We have six blank whiteboards in the room. This gun
- 21:41Speaker 2: maker introduced the buckmark symbol in nineteen seventy eight, which
- 21:47Speaker 2: features a mule deer silhouette that they call the outdoor
- 21:51Speaker 2: industries most iconic logo.
- 21:53Speaker 1: That's a bold statement.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Well, I mean, you can say anything you want about
- 21:57Speaker 2: your own brand. I don't know if it even disagree.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Maybe not the most iconic, but one of them. Still
- 22:06Speaker 2: six blank whiteboards. This gunmaker introduced the buckmark symbol in
- 22:11Speaker 2: nineteen seventy eight, which features a mule deer silhouette that
- 22:14Speaker 2: they call the outdoor industry's most iconic logo. Mm hmm
- 22:21Speaker 2: max with you being annoyed.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Mule deer silhouette I'm not.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Gonna be anything. They call it a mule deer silhouette.
- 22:29Speaker 2: That's what they that's what they identify it as. I'm
- 22:34Speaker 2: Max and being in North Dakota, your your wife being
- 22:36Speaker 2: a Minnesota you guys would love Grumpy Old Man. They're
- 22:41Speaker 2: even one of them is even named after you. I
- 22:43Speaker 2: know maybe you're named after Max maybe person.
- 22:47Speaker 3: So you haven't seen those, either of those movies.
- 22:49Speaker 4: I would be lying if I told you, yeah.
- 22:52Speaker 3: The best movies ever. Do you think it's better than
- 22:56Speaker 3: as Tombstone?
- 22:57Speaker 2: It's a very earnest statement from set Mark. This gun
- 23:03Speaker 2: maker introduced thank You Mark symbol in nineteen seventy eight,
- 23:09Speaker 2: which features a mule deer silhouette that they call the
- 23:12Speaker 2: outdoor industry's most iconic logo. Nate, do you have this
- 23:17Speaker 2: one right?
- 23:18Speaker 6: No? No, just guess.
- 23:20Speaker 2: John, do you have this one right?
- 23:21Speaker 6: I think so he does.
- 23:23Speaker 10: Yeah, I think I think I think I got it out.
- 23:27Speaker 2: The Pennsylvania boys, they like, they're interesting.
- 23:33Speaker 6: What about the other Pa boy?
- 23:35Speaker 2: What you first want to put his board down? Is
- 23:39Speaker 2: everybody ready?
- 23:40Speaker 1: No?
- 23:40Speaker 4: I mean yeah, it doesn't matter.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers, says Browning. Logan Ruger.
- 23:52Speaker 2: That's right, John Brownstern, Remington, Brodie Browning. Yay, boys, got
- 23:59Speaker 2: it over. The correct answer is Browning. Browning had some
- 24:05Speaker 2: internal disagreement about the logo and its marketing department created
- 24:09Speaker 2: it in nineteen seventy seven. Most notably people thought it
- 24:13Speaker 2: should feature a white tail instead of a mule deer,
- 24:16Speaker 2: but its creator said the muley showed the gun's western
- 24:19Speaker 2: origins as a Utah brand and set it apart from
- 24:22Speaker 2: New England competitors. The logo proved to be a success
- 24:26Speaker 2: and has become one of the most popular tattoos among hunters.
- 24:29Speaker 2: I feel like, if you know a hunter who has
- 24:31Speaker 2: a tattoo, there's like a ten percent chance this is
- 24:35Speaker 2: you never knew. You don't know? Yeah, that they call
- 24:40Speaker 2: it their mulee silhouettes. Actual they had.
- 24:42Speaker 6: That's a great question.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Ron to question seven, the topic is public lands. Bar Harbor,
- 24:49Speaker 2: Maine calls itself quote the gateway to Blank National Park.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I just didn't recognize it when you said Bar Harbor, Phil.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Give us your best.
- 25:05Speaker 3: I don't have a good boss.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Bar Harbor, Maine calls itself the gateway to Blank National Park.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Oh, I've been there. I've been there many times.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Really, yep, many a times to Bar Harbor.
- 25:20Speaker 8: Yeah, good loster roles there, Yep.
- 25:24Speaker 2: I bet I would love to go there and have
- 25:26Speaker 2: a lostter role. MH. Brody very quickly came up with
- 25:31Speaker 2: an answer or other five players.
- 25:35Speaker 8: Yeah, this place has been on my list of places
- 25:37Speaker 8: to go.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I've never now you move so far away from it.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Bar Harbor calls itself the gateway to Blank National Park.
- 25:47Speaker 10: When I was when I decided I was going to
- 25:50Speaker 10: move out of Pennsylvania, I was split between Montana and Maine.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Both good choices.
- 25:57Speaker 2: You'd be a moose hunting machine.
- 25:59Speaker 6: I love Maynor, They're good.
- 26:00Speaker 3: The Maine is a great state.
- 26:03Speaker 2: It's fantastic, Nate, do you have this one right?
- 26:07Speaker 6: No, I don't think so.
- 26:10Speaker 2: It gave for Odi a chuckle.
- 26:12Speaker 3: It's one of those deals where when I hear it,
- 26:13Speaker 3: I'm gonna yeah exactly.
- 26:16Speaker 2: And you think you've been to this national park or
- 26:17Speaker 2: you've just been to Bajaba.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I don't know if I've been to the national park.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Okay, Maxwell, trying to come up with a national park,
- 26:29Speaker 2: wrote down a letter. Bar Harbor, Maine calls itself the
- 26:32Speaker 2: gateway to Blank National Park. Walk us through your thinking
- 26:39Speaker 2: process down there.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Max, there's not much to it.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I know of it.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I don't.
- 26:45Speaker 4: I just don't know where this is exactly.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Maxon never even bothers to try hiding.
- 26:53Speaker 5: His board because I don't even know if you're gonna
- 26:56Speaker 5: be right.
- 26:57Speaker 2: When he got the Randall seat today, I know she's
- 26:59Speaker 2: kind of a of an in spot in the studio.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Does Randall just get here ten minutes early in A.
- 27:06Speaker 2: I think he does do that. Yeah, and uh. Sometimes
- 27:09Speaker 2: someone who's not real familiar with the show will take
- 27:11Speaker 2: that spot and random, you know, kind of give him
- 27:14Speaker 2: a look I think this is and then reluctantly take
- 27:17Speaker 2: a different spot. Max. Are you ready, Seth? Are you ready?
- 27:22Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers? Seth says Akadia Logan Appalachian.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Maxwell tried to John Akad is, let's see that white boy.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Don't change it, Nate, says Centennial Brody.
- 27:47Speaker 3: A Kadia.
- 27:48Speaker 2: The direct answer is A Kadia, A C A D
- 27:53Speaker 2: I A.
- 27:54Speaker 4: There's a lot of distractions, the Horrible Speller.
- 27:57Speaker 2: With over four million visitors each year, Acadia is the
- 28:00Speaker 2: seventh most visited national park in America, ranking between Rocky
- 28:05Speaker 2: Mountain and Grand Teeton. It is home to Cadillac Mountain,
- 28:08Speaker 2: which is the tallest mountain on the Atlantic coast of
- 28:11Speaker 2: the United States Acadia. It was the first national park
- 28:14Speaker 2: created from private lands gifted to the public.
- 28:18Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie.
- 28:18Speaker 10: I heard Mexico as I'm like, ah.
- 28:23Speaker 2: The highest mountain on the Atlantic coast, Brody, I said,
- 28:26Speaker 2: this last game, what's your question?
- 28:27Speaker 1: What does that mean? Highest mountain on the Atlantic coast?
- 28:29Speaker 2: I assume that, like you can, you know, see the water,
- 28:32Speaker 2: like throw a rock and hit the water from it.
- 28:34Speaker 2: The highest mountain on the Atlantic coast of the United States.
- 28:38Speaker 2: So that's not counting our friends in Canada.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Brods, I said this last game. I don't play to win.
- 28:45Speaker 4: I played have fun.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Good, you're having fun? Yeah? Always. Question eight, the topic
- 28:51Speaker 2: is fishing. This next great question is via Tim allen As.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I'm sorry I should have warned you now, I just expected.
- 29:01Speaker 2: Tim is a prolific trivia question writer in her so Phil,
- 29:05Speaker 2: you better, what's going on? We got a dive bar
- 29:09Speaker 2: situation flickering all right? Topic is fishing. This word, which
- 29:15Speaker 2: is defined as quote. The way a rod flexes under
- 29:19Speaker 2: a load, can be described as fast, medium, or slow.
- 29:27Speaker 2: This word, which is defined as the way a rod
- 29:30Speaker 2: flexes under a load, can be described as fast, medium,
- 29:34Speaker 2: or slow. The PA boys again sharing that brain. They
- 29:42Speaker 2: all look confident. The non PA suckers not so much.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Nope, Maxer, you're an angler.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I know.
- 29:54Speaker 4: I think I got it.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Okay, I mean we know Nate's not going to get it.
- 29:58Speaker 6: I'm trying to lean in my physics background.
- 30:02Speaker 2: This word, which is defined as the way a rod
- 30:05Speaker 2: flexes under a load, can be described as fast, medium,
- 30:10Speaker 2: or slow. Hmmm, Logan, do you have this one right?
- 30:16Speaker 3: I think so. It's trick up a bit o.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Seth is questioning his answer. Oh, the silence kills me.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Is everybody ready?
- 30:27Speaker 6: Give me one second?
- 30:30Speaker 2: Nate's got a noodle on this. What's your physics background?
- 30:34Speaker 2: High school physics class.
- 30:38Speaker 4: Ten years ago.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I think under that definition everybody has a physics background.
- 30:44Speaker 6: I hope you wouldn't ask.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Okay, Seth making the last second, sticking with my gut change,
- 30:54Speaker 2: is everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth
- 30:58Speaker 2: crossed out power and went with that Logan action Maxwell action,
- 31:02Speaker 2: John action, Nate's tensile brody action. The correct answer is action.
- 31:09Speaker 2: The room did well, good on you set for making
- 31:12Speaker 2: that last second change order.
- 31:16Speaker 3: The mediums. The medium messed me up because you have
- 31:18Speaker 3: like a medium like isn't.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Powers like heavy lights ultra light? Yeah, I think it's
- 31:25Speaker 2: Sometimes instead of medium, you'll see moderate, so fast, moderate, medium, slow.
- 31:30Speaker 2: A fast action rod will flex at the tip of
- 31:32Speaker 2: the rod before it reaches its backbone, while a slow
- 31:36Speaker 2: action rod bends all the way down towards your fishing wheel.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Fast action rods are more popular for jig fishing, where
- 31:42Speaker 2: you're making contact with the bottom and creating slacking the line.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Slow action rods are best for when you're using treble hooks,
- 31:49Speaker 2: live bait, or lightline. Here's a diagram showing you how
- 31:53Speaker 2: the different rods will bend based on if it's a
- 31:55Speaker 2: fast action or moditor action slow action. A there, that's
- 32:00Speaker 2: an extra fast action so there you're only getting some
- 32:03Speaker 2: little bit of band at the end of your rod.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Broomstick or it's like d D that you're looking at
- 32:10Speaker 2: a moderate action that would be a noodle. What would
- 32:13Speaker 2: ugly stick be, well, I mean I think they still
- 32:16Speaker 2: span different. Yeah, they would have fast, slow, medium.
- 32:20Speaker 4: I think of ugly stick. I think of this.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Break dishwasher. John's referring to a wife trying to not
- 32:34Speaker 2: get her husband to go fishing. So he shoves the
- 32:37Speaker 2: She shoves the ugly stick down the garbage disposal.
- 32:41Speaker 8: Ugly sticks in my quiver. Man, those boys can't break.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Them all right? Failed? Two questions left. Give us a
- 32:46Speaker 2: scoreboard update.
- 32:49Speaker 7: This spreads a little more wide this time around. We've
- 32:52Speaker 7: got Logan and Nate tied up now with three points.
- 32:56Speaker 7: Max and John have five, but it's close up. Top
- 32:59Speaker 7: seth Scott's experty has seven.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Question nine The topic is natural history. Mount Mount which
- 33:07Speaker 2: National Geographic calls the world's most dangerous volcano is located
- 33:13Speaker 2: in this country.
- 33:15Speaker 6: Been there really?
- 33:17Speaker 2: Okay? There's a hint if you know Nate's travels Mountain.
- 33:23Speaker 6: I lived there.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Okay. That is a hefty mount which the National Geographic
- 33:32Speaker 2: calls quote the world's most dangerous volcano is located in
- 33:37Speaker 2: this country.
- 33:39Speaker 6: I'm pulling for you, sir.
- 33:42Speaker 3: Is it an island?
- 33:43Speaker 6: I can't conscious.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Say, has lived? How many countries have you lived in?
- 33:49Speaker 6: Nate? I think just two?
- 33:52Speaker 2: Okay.
- 33:55Speaker 6: I I guess your definition of lived is what would
- 33:57Speaker 6: define that?
- 33:58Speaker 2: Okay? I like sleep in a place for a month,
- 34:01Speaker 2: consecutively five five countries. Nate's lived in Mount Vesuvius, which
- 34:12Speaker 2: National Geographic calls the world's most dangerous volcano, is located
- 34:17Speaker 2: in this country. If Brody can get this one right, sorry,
- 34:21Speaker 2: Seth gets it wrong, that will wrap up the victory
- 34:24Speaker 2: for Brody with one question to go. If Brody gets
- 34:30Speaker 2: it wrong and Seth gets it right, we'll be tied
- 34:31Speaker 2: going into question ten.
- 34:33Speaker 10: Pulling for you, I don't know spell it.
- 34:37Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 34:38Speaker 6: I don't think you're right.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Another hit. Have you been to the actual mount? It's
- 34:52Speaker 2: everybody ready. Brody, do you have this one right? It
- 34:55Speaker 2: took you man.
- 34:57Speaker 1: We'll find out.
- 35:00Speaker 2: John not doing good over here? Okay. Do you have
- 35:03Speaker 2: a country written down?
- 35:05Speaker 9: I'll write a country down.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Okay. Then we're gonna flip them over. Go ahead and
- 35:11Speaker 2: reveal your answers. Seth says, what's that say?
- 35:16Speaker 5: Italy?
- 35:17Speaker 2: Maxwest, John, Japan, Nate, Italy, Brody Greece. The correct answer
- 35:26Speaker 2: is Italy. I was located in southern Italy. Mount Vesuvius
- 35:32Speaker 2: is the only volcano on Europe's mainland that's erupted in
- 35:35Speaker 2: the last one hundred years. Its most famous event was
- 35:38Speaker 2: in seventy nine a d when it obliterated Pompeii, killing
- 35:43Speaker 2: thousands in the area. It's estimated that eruption released one
- 35:46Speaker 2: hundred thousand times the thermal energy of an atomic bomb.
- 35:50Speaker 2: It pumped out so much sulfur, dioxide and ash into
- 35:53Speaker 2: the atmosphere that it temporarily altered global climates, and scientists
- 35:57Speaker 2: say that based on tree ring growth, regional temperatures were
- 36:00Speaker 2: actually cooler for a few years afterwards. What was your
- 36:04Speaker 2: experience on Mount Vesuvius.
- 36:06Speaker 6: Which is I mean I was like four. We hiked
- 36:08Speaker 6: up there. I remember, it was cool. There's like no
- 36:10Speaker 6: rules to speak of, so you just go up there
- 36:12Speaker 6: and look in the crater's sick.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Oh you went like to the top.
- 36:15Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's great. You should if you find
- 36:17Speaker 6: yourself in southern Italy, you should.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Go remember things from when you were a four?
- 36:20Speaker 6: Do you I remember things when I was two and
- 36:21Speaker 6: a half, and not even fake memories. This is a
- 36:24Speaker 6: whole debate. This is a whole debate. We're not going
- 36:27Speaker 6: to get out there.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I think part of part of the danger
- 36:30Speaker 2: of Mount Vesuvius is that there's like three million people
- 36:32Speaker 2: who live, you know, within what would be an eruption.
- 36:35Speaker 4: So how long did you live in Italy?
- 36:36Speaker 6: Two and a half years?
- 36:37Speaker 2: Okay, all right, here's a correct answer. Review so far
- 36:40Speaker 2: one was blue winged teal two, Roman Candle three screwworm four,
- 36:45Speaker 2: grumpy old Men five, transfer case six Browning seven, Acadia
- 36:51Speaker 2: National Park eight Action nine Italy phil scoreboard update.
- 36:57Speaker 7: No change amongst the competitive players here, but we got
- 37:00Speaker 7: logan innate with four points.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Now. Question ten. The topic is conservation. South Carolina labels
- 37:08Speaker 2: this six letter plant as a severe environmental threat, describing
- 37:14Speaker 2: it as having quote woody stems, branched growth, and often
- 37:19Speaker 2: large size hm six six letters. South Carolina labels this
- 37:28Speaker 2: six letter plant as a severe environmental threat, describing it
- 37:33Speaker 2: as having woody stems, branched growth, and often large size. Brody,
- 37:39Speaker 2: do you like your answer?
- 37:43Speaker 1: I had answer?
- 37:44Speaker 2: Okay, if he gets it right, he will have won
- 37:46Speaker 2: the game. He gets it wrong and Seth gets it right,
- 37:49Speaker 2: we will go to overtime. And I think we are
- 37:52Speaker 2: on an overtime drought. Here, immediate trivia to benemite. Okay,
- 37:58Speaker 2: I'm gonna give Seth a minute. He's he's drawn his
- 38:01Speaker 2: Hangman characters. Now he's just got to find a six
- 38:04Speaker 2: letter plant that South Carolina labels as a severe environmental threat,
- 38:10Speaker 2: describing it as having woody stems, branched growth, and often
- 38:15Speaker 2: large size. Brody the only player with an answer so far, Nate,
- 38:22Speaker 2: do you like your answer?
- 38:23Speaker 1: No?
- 38:24Speaker 6: I thought I had it, but it was only five letters.
- 38:26Speaker 6: So I've changed the spelling and we'll see what happens.
- 38:31Speaker 3: What do I mean by large size?
- 38:34Speaker 2: I don't know whatever South Carolina would describe as being
- 38:37Speaker 2: often large size, woody stems, branched growth, and often large size. Phil,
- 38:47Speaker 2: you had a little chuckle over there? Anything? Oh?
