Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / Mental Knowledge Compared to Psychic Knowledge
Transcript
- 0:00Each plane of consciousness has its own way of knowing.
- 0:04Mental knowledge comes through a process of observation,
- 0:08classification, comparison, categorization, analysis, and a
- 0:14decision based on this process through a comparison to past
- 0:17circumstances, events, or experiences.
- 0:21Mental knowledge is limited by this framework and frequently
- 0:25makes inaccurate judgments due to limited knowledge or
- 0:29incorrect assessment, in many cases due to trained in biases
- 0:33and prejudices. The psychic being on the other
- 0:37hand, does not utilize this type of cumbersome and linear process
- 0:42of step by step analysis to come to its understanding and
- 0:46knowledge. Due to its direct connection to
- 0:49the Divine, it possesses an unerring ability to instantly
- 0:54separate truth from falsehood. Any perception, any vital
- 0:59motive, any mental idea, when passed to the soul, yields an
- 1:05instant vibrational pattern for an interpretation that either
- 1:09represents a truth, a partial truth, or a falsehood.
- 1:15We speak of a gut instinct, but instinct is very much made-up of
- 1:19reactions of the external nature to patterns subliminally
- 1:23received in many cases that correspond to some prior event,
- 1:28some internalized understanding, training, or vital response, or
- 1:34reactions embedded through the long history of the evolution of
- 1:38consciousness. The soul's knowledge is not
- 1:42quite the same as a gut instinct.
- 1:44Rather, it is a form of knowledge by identity where the
- 1:49truth of the spirit is either confirmed in the impinging
- 1:52vibrational pattern or else a variance is experienced.
- 1:57The purity of the soul is able to distinguish purity or
- 2:01impurity in the energy received. The soul's knowledge provides an
- 2:06instant sense, while it does not attempt to go into all of the
- 2:11details and analysis of the mental being, which strives in
- 2:14its turn to achieve knowledge through a process of increasing
- 2:19detail and complexity. Each type of knowledge has its
- 2:23uses and its place. For the spiritual seeker,
- 2:28developing the ability to hear the voice of the soul is an
- 2:32essential power for progress in the spiritual growth and
- 2:35development, as it alone can provide real guidance to the
- 2:40spiritual aspirant about the ultimate direction and decision
- 2:44to take, Sri Rabindra writes quote.
- 2:50The mental being within watches, observes and passes judgment on
- 2:54all that happens in you. The psychic does not watch and
- 2:58observe in this way like a witness, but it feels and knows
- 3:02spontaneously, in a much more direct and luminous way, by the
- 3:07very purity of its own nature and the divine instinct within
- 3:11it. And so whenever it comes to the
- 3:15front, it reveals at once what are the right and what the wrong
- 3:19movements in your nature. End Quote Reference Shrioro
