- 0:15And welcome to a chapter A Day. Bible reading the podcast where
- 0:19as we are. So creatively named we read a
- 0:22chapter a day of God's word so that we can be delighted and
- 0:28inspired equipped and informed and reminded that we are loved
- 0:34people who walk in the presence of almighty God and that is
- 0:38exactly what we are doing today. And today we continue reading
- 0:44our way through the book of Exodus.
- 0:46And we have reached this wonderful point where the god of
- 0:51the universe and Beyond comes majestically to Moses to say,
- 0:56this is what you and I are going to do.
- 0:59And Moses goes you've got to be kidding.
- 1:02I am not your man. Go and find someone else to do
- 1:04your dirty work. I am not up to the job, so if
- 1:08you have ever had a crisis of Faith or a Isis have courage
- 1:12where you just don't feel like you can do what you think you
- 1:15ought to do. You're not alone.
- 1:16Even this Titan, let's tighten of our faith, Moses didn't feel
- 1:21like he could do what God was asking him, but boy does God use
- 1:26him powerfully so there's still hope for you and me, friends
- 1:29fear. Not so let's read the story.
- 1:31Together as we today will read together.
- 1:35Exodus chapter 4 But Moses protested again.
- 1:51What if they won't believe me? Or listen to me?
- 1:54What if they say the Lord never appeared to you?
- 1:58Then the Lord asked him. What is that in your hand?
- 2:03A shepherd's staff. Moses replied, throw it down on
- 2:07the ground, the Lord told him. So Moses threw down the staff
- 2:12and it turned into a snake, Moses jump back.
- 2:16Then the Lord told him. Chat and grab its tail.
- 2:21So Moses reached out and grabbed it, and it turned back into a
- 2:25shepherd's staff in his hand. Perform this sign, the Lord told
- 2:30him, then they will believe that the Lord, the god, of their
- 2:35ancestors, the god of Abraham, the god of Isaac, and the god of
- 2:40Jacob really has appeared to you.
- 2:44And the Lord said to Moses, now put your hand inside your Loke.
- 2:49So Moses put his hand inside his cloak and when he took it out
- 2:52again, his hand was white as snow with a severe skin disease.
- 2:58Now, put your hand back into your cloak, the Lord said, so
- 3:03Moses put his hand back in and when he took it out again, it
- 3:07was as healthy as the rest of his body.
- 3:10The Lord said to Moses, if they do not believe you and are not
- 3:15convinced by the first miraculous sign, They will be
- 3:18convinced by the second sign, and if they don't believe you or
- 3:23listen to you, even after these two signs, then take some water
- 3:28from the Nile River and pour it out on the dry ground when you
- 3:33do the water from the Nile will turn to blood on the ground.
- 3:38But Moses pleaded with the Lord. Oh, Lord, I'm not very good with
- 3:43words. I never have been and I'm not
- 3:47now. Even though you have spoken to
- 3:49me, I get tongue-tied and my words get tangled.
- 3:54Then the Lord asked Moses who makes a person's mouth who
- 3:59decides whether people speak or do not speak here or do not
- 4:04hear, see, or do not see, is it not I the Lord.
- 4:10Now go. I will be with you as you speak
- 4:14and I will instruct you in what to say, But Moses again.
- 4:19Pleaded Lord please send someone else.
- 4:24Then the Lord became angry with Moses.
- 4:26All right. He said, what about your
- 4:29brother? Aaron the levite.
- 4:32I know he speaks well and look, he is on his way to meet you.
- 4:36Now, he will be delighted to see you talk to him and put the
- 4:42words in his mouth. I will be with both of you as
- 4:46you speak and I will instruct you both in what to do.
- 4:51Aaron will be your spokesman to the people.
- 4:54He will be your mouthpiece, and you will stand in the place of
- 4:59God for him. Telling him what to say, and
- 5:03take a shepherd's staff with you and use it to perform the
- 5:06miraculous sign. I've shown you.
- 5:09So Moses went back home to Jethro his father-in-law,
- 5:13please. Let me return to my relatives in
- 5:16Egypt. Moses said, I don't even know if
- 5:19they're still alive. Go in peace Jethro replied
- 5:25before Moses left, Midian. The Lord said to him return to
- 5:29Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill, you have died.
- 5:34So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and headed,
- 5:39back to the land of Egypt in his hand.
- 5:42He carried the staff of God. And the Lord told Moses, when
- 5:47you arrive back in Egypt, go to pharaoh and perform all the
- 5:52Miracles. I have empowered you to do, but
- 5:55I will harden his heart so he will refuse to let the people
- 5:59go. Then you will tell him.
- 6:02This is what the Lord says. Israel is my firstborn son.
- 6:08I commanded you let my son go so he can worship me.
- 6:14But since you have refused, I will now kill your firstborn
- 6:19son. On the way to Egypt at a place
- 6:23where Moses and his family had stopped for the night.
- 6:26The Lord confronted him and was about to kill him.
- 6:29But Moses wife zipporah took a flint knife and circumcised her
- 6:34son. She touched his feet with the
- 6:36foreskin and said, now, you are the bridegroom of blood to me,
- 6:42when she said a bridegroom of blood, she was referring to the
- 6:46circumcision after that the Lord left him alone.
- 6:52Now, the Lord said to Aaron, go out into the Wilderness to meet
- 6:56Moses. So Aaron went and met Moses at
- 7:00the Mountain of God and he embraced him.
- 7:03Moses then told Aaron everything, the Lord had
- 7:06commanded him to say, and he told him about the miraculous
- 7:10signs. The Lord had commanded him to
- 7:12perform, then Moses and Aaron return to Egypt and called all
- 7:17the Elders of Israel together. Aaron told them everything, the
- 7:22Lord had told Moses and Moses perform the miraculous signs as
- 7:26they watched. Then the people of Israel were
- 7:29convinced that the Lord had sent Moses and Aaron when they heard
- 7:34that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their
- 7:37misery. They bowed down and worshiped.
