- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:06Speaker 2: And welcome inside to One Leg Up with Alex Garrett,
- 0:09Speaker 2: the sports side of things now. And with a one
- 0:12Speaker 2: Leg Up on sports, we have Terminelos take tonight ahead
- 0:16Speaker 2: of the World Series. And I also wanted to throw
- 0:19Speaker 2: this in. How many podcasts or vloggers have been able
- 0:25Speaker 2: to talk with someone who's been on both sides of
- 0:28Speaker 2: the field, whether it be in the Dodger dugout or
- 0:31Speaker 2: the Yankee dugout. Tommy John has been around both organizations
- 0:36Speaker 2: and pitched and thrived in both organizations. And I was
- 0:42Speaker 2: so lucky to get his take a couple of weeks
- 0:44Speaker 2: ago on what would it was like playing in LA
- 0:48Speaker 2: was playing in the Bronx Talk about pitching and Tommy
- 0:52Speaker 2: because I know that that's a.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Big part of your career.
- 0:55Speaker 3: It was a beautiful ballpark, I had great fans, the
- 1:00Speaker 3: weather was outstanding, and the Dodgers played well.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Lasorda was your manager, talking about me being, you know,
- 1:09Speaker 2: a student of Lasorda and under his wing.
- 1:12Speaker 3: You just had to have money to buy in food.
- 1:15Speaker 2: He was a wise guy and I'm sure you have
- 1:17Speaker 2: stories with him because he was just he was a character.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Even though I got to meet him years ago when
- 1:24Speaker 2: he was just a nice guy, but a wise guy.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I'm sure he felt he had that presence in the
- 1:28Speaker 2: dugout as well.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yes he did. But he loved the game of baseball
- 1:35Speaker 3: and he loved the Dodgers, and he got everybody that
- 1:38Speaker 3: went out on the field to bleed Dodger blue.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And obviously in the Bronx, different atmosphere, but I'm sure
- 1:46Speaker 2: it was still as exciting to pitch in the Bronx,
- 1:49Speaker 2: wasn't it.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Well, there's a different style than what it was out
- 1:53Speaker 3: in LA. But the fans were loud, boisterous. At Yankee Stadium.
- 2:00Speaker 3: We had a loud and boisterous owner.
- 2:02Speaker 2: What was it like under mister Steinberger? I just out
- 2:04Speaker 2: of curiosity, what was that like?
- 2:06Speaker 3: He was a tough cookie, very very tough, and you
- 2:11Speaker 3: played and you played hard, because if you played hard
- 2:14Speaker 3: and did well, he wouldn't say anything. If you didn't
- 2:18Speaker 3: play hard and you didn't do well, he'd be all
- 2:21Speaker 3: over again. George was like anybody that was building a winner.
- 2:28Speaker 3: You know, what do you in baseball? What do you
- 2:31Speaker 3: build it with? You build it with pitching mainly, and
- 2:35Speaker 3: that's what George did.
- 2:37Speaker 2: My thanks again, you Mac McFarlane, and uh, prayers for Tommy.
- 2:41Speaker 2: He's recovering from surgery he had last week, which is
- 2:45Speaker 2: public knowledge, but it may not be known.
- 2:49Speaker 1: To you.
- 2:50Speaker 2: So I just want to say prayers for Tommy and
- 2:53Speaker 2: the Tommy John for Cooper's Town crew is praying for you, sir,
- 2:58Speaker 2: and I am so thankful that we got to talk
- 3:01Speaker 2: prior to your surgery. To brighten the mood a little
- 3:05Speaker 2: bit more. Let's turn the Terminello's take as we recap
- 3:08Speaker 2: the Mets season and preview the World Series. Lou Terminello,
- 3:14Speaker 2: welcome back to One Leg Up on Sports with Alex Carrett.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Thank you as always for having me back. This is
- 3:21Speaker 1: an exciting week. It's been an exciting last month in
- 3:27Speaker 1: New York sports. Obviously, the Mets have put the had
- 3:32Speaker 1: their pedal to the medal since June, trying to get
- 3:35Speaker 1: back in the playoff race. Obviously, that last day the
- 3:38Speaker 1: regular season against Atlanta with the Lindor home run, then
- 3:43Speaker 1: two outs away from Alive Nation against Milwaukee and the
- 3:45Speaker 1: Alonso three run homer, their destruction of the of the
- 3:51Speaker 1: Phillies in four games, and against the Dodgers they aim
- 3:56Speaker 1: a good fight, they never quit They're pitching staff, in
- 4:00Speaker 1: my opinion, ran out of gas, ran on fumes. The
- 4:04Speaker 1: Dodgers tremendous offensive lineup just basically just wore down their
- 4:10Speaker 1: pitching staff. And you know, a season that was supposed
- 4:15Speaker 1: to be, okay, we're going to be competitive. I guess
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know, they figured if we're still in it around
- 4:24Speaker 1: Labor Day and then we fade, we could stay we're
- 4:27Speaker 1: competitive because this was the transition season to a twenty
- 4:31Speaker 1: twenty five. Well they got here, and they got, like
- 4:34Speaker 1: you said, within two games of the World Series. And
- 4:37Speaker 1: it's a kudos to the to the Mets and David
- 4:41Speaker 1: Stearns did help out during a regular season, had the
- 4:46Speaker 1: trade deadline, the Mets had, you know, a ton of
- 4:48Speaker 1: injuries to their bullpen. He replaced those guys when guys
- 4:53Speaker 1: like Drew Smith was injured and their best lefty reliever
- 4:58Speaker 1: Brooks Rarely was injured, and the underrated Danielle Nenez, who
- 5:04Speaker 1: was you know, a twenty eight old rookie who was
- 5:07Speaker 1: very you know, very very impressive when he got hurt
- 5:12Speaker 1: with the I get I think had the Ulmer injury,
- 5:15Speaker 1: but so and he replaced him. He got Meitan, who
- 5:18Speaker 1: had a good regular season was terrible. In this series,
- 5:22Speaker 1: Ryan Stanek, who was who did a very good job,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you know so, and of course getting Jesse Winker that
- 5:29Speaker 1: was that was a great pickup. So Sterns really did
- 5:32Speaker 1: a good job. And of course, as you always say,
- 5:35Speaker 1: the call up of the year, Mark vent Doz, I
- 5:38Speaker 1: mean the guy hit five home runs in the postseason.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The experience they got. And let's not forget Jose Iglesias,
- 5:47Speaker 1: who stern signed and brought up right around the Memorial
- 5:51Speaker 1: Day and he helped get the Mets Mets going, and
- 5:54Speaker 1: thank god he was around because you know Mcjeff McNeil
- 5:57Speaker 1: broke his risk in September, was good to come back
- 6:00Speaker 1: and had some good at bats the last the last
- 6:03Speaker 1: two games. But it was a positive, a positive season
- 6:07Speaker 1: for the Mets. Disappointed, but I'm not upset. And of
- 6:13Speaker 1: course Stearn's hiring his own man that he wanted to,
- 6:18Speaker 1: and I guess he had the right to hire his
- 6:20Speaker 1: own manager, even though we know book show Walter was
- 6:22Speaker 1: a terrific manager. Carlos Mendoza never lost his poise during
- 6:29Speaker 1: during this stressful season, did a great job. It looks
- 6:33Speaker 1: like the Mets have a winner in in their in
- 6:35Speaker 1: this manager that they hired. I was very impressed with
- 6:38Speaker 1: Carlos Mendoza.
- 6:39Speaker 2: So how many managers can take an ER to five
- 6:42Speaker 2: team and put them in the World Series for God's sake.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I feel like the White Sox had the similar start
- 6:48Speaker 2: and they just run downhill. So I do believe it's
- 6:50Speaker 2: a managerial thing that leads a team from that turmoil
- 6:54Speaker 2: to two games away from the Orals. I want to
- 6:56Speaker 2: keep saying that because we're two games away from the
- 6:59Speaker 2: World Series and people need to grasp that.
- 7:03Speaker 1: No, you're one hundred correct, and uh, like I said,
- 7:08Speaker 1: he never he never lost his poise. He was calm
- 7:12Speaker 1: in the face of of uh losing guys through injury,
- 7:17Speaker 1: through so that those first two months which were just
- 7:22Speaker 1: you know, I hate had j D.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Martinez, it would have been a different kind of April
- 7:26Speaker 2: and May.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Though wasn't it could have been. It definitely could have
- 7:29Speaker 1: been without a doubt, And of course he didn't have
- 7:33Speaker 1: He didn't know this at the time, but you know,
- 7:36Speaker 1: you didn't have Senga except for one, you know, start
- 7:39Speaker 1: in the regular season. I mean, I really have no
- 7:43Speaker 1: qualms of how we manage a team. You know that
- 7:48Speaker 1: being said the Mets have a lot of free agents.
- 7:50Speaker 1: The I have a lot. They have a lot of
- 7:52Speaker 1: free agents coming up, because the one thing Stern's did
- 7:55Speaker 1: do was he signed a lot of guys to one
- 7:57Speaker 1: year deals, some guys who prefer him better than than
- 8:02Speaker 1: we thought. I'm sure that he thought like Sean Manaiah
- 8:07Speaker 1: and Severino, who hadn't pitched much in the last five
- 8:10Speaker 1: years and had a very good year. Jose Quintana, who
- 8:15Speaker 1: was on the team from last year in the second
- 8:17Speaker 1: year of a two year deal, is a free agent.
- 8:20Speaker 1: You know he's out there. And of course Harrison Bader
- 8:24Speaker 1: had a one year deal. I do not think Harrison
- 8:27Speaker 1: Bader will be on the team. Yes, he plays a
- 8:29Speaker 1: great center field, as does Tyrone Taylor. They one of
- 8:33Speaker 1: them will not be on the team. I don't know who.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I assume it will. Taylor will will be on the roster,
- 8:41Speaker 1: and of course the big fish will will they sign him?
- 8:45Speaker 1: Will they not resign him? Pete Alonzo and uh, we'll see.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I mean, the Mets have a lot of first base candidates.
- 8:56Speaker 1: If they don't sign him, if they go after somebody else.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Of course, the one that everybody talks about, even though
- 9:02Speaker 1: the Mets can't talk about it until I guess it's
- 9:05Speaker 1: five days after the World Series. If that's still the rule.
- 9:10Speaker 1: One Soto who if the Mets don't get involved in
- 9:13Speaker 1: the one Soto free agency.
- 9:16Speaker 2: And by the way, you know, every Yankee fan is
- 9:19Speaker 2: saying he's a Yankee for life, but he himself has
- 9:21Speaker 2: made it seem like he no matter what happened to
- 9:24Speaker 2: this postseason, this World Series might test the waters. I
- 9:26Speaker 2: don't know.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Well, he's a Scott Borrows client. He's gonna go where
- 9:33Speaker 1: he gets the most cash now.
- 9:35Speaker 2: And by the way, he's gonna be, I believe twenty
- 9:38Speaker 2: five when this whole World Series starts.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That is correct, and that see, that's what makes that's
- 9:43Speaker 1: what makes him more attractive than even Judge was, because
- 9:49Speaker 1: when Judge signed his nine year deal, he was thirty.
- 9:52Speaker 1: He's gonna be He'll be twenty six by next opening day,
- 9:55Speaker 1: in the prime of his career. He's such a good hitter,
- 9:58Speaker 1: he's such a disciplined hit. Well, he saw the home
- 10:01Speaker 1: run the other night that won the American League Championship Series.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Patience long a people.
- 10:11Speaker 2: People don't realize this is the same one Soto that
- 10:15Speaker 2: willed the Nationals to a championship in twenty nineteen. I mean,
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'll never forget that homer he hit against the Dodgers
- 10:22Speaker 2: at Schevezravine in the I believe the LDS. I mean,
- 10:26Speaker 2: that was one of the more incredible homers he's ever hit.
- 10:29Speaker 2: I would say Saturday ranks up there, but that homer
- 10:32Speaker 2: when he was about twenty twenty years old.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Right that he was like twenty years old, and then he.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Goes and beats the Astros. I mean that twenty nineteen
- 10:40Speaker 2: Nationals team was his launching point. And I think because
- 10:45Speaker 2: we're yeah, we follow the Nats because they beat the Astros.
- 10:48Speaker 2: But as Yankee fans, we didn't follow him that closely
- 10:50Speaker 2: as we do now obviously, so maybe people forgot about that.
- 10:54Speaker 2: That's why I want to remind people, Hey, this is
- 10:55Speaker 2: the same kid that that homer against the Dodgers and
- 10:59Speaker 2: that was really the the start of their run. And
- 11:02Speaker 2: he's been clutch since he's been twenty years old. How
- 11:04Speaker 2: many players can we say that about it?
- 11:07Speaker 1: You know? Oh for sure? And Yankee fans don't want
- 11:10Speaker 1: to see Soto of the uniform, especially if it's if
- 11:16Speaker 1: it's a Mets uniform. That's for certain again, we don't
- 11:21Speaker 1: know what's going to happen, but the METSI and the outfielder.
- 11:25Speaker 1: So you know, we put a wrap up the Mets season,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and you know, maybe we won't talk about them for
- 11:31Speaker 1: a while until the free agency starts.
- 11:35Speaker 2: One the last thing you mentioned sever Reno, and he
- 11:37Speaker 2: was part of the staff that had a three point
- 11:40Speaker 2: six seven e RA since June thirteenth. As of September third,
- 11:44Speaker 2: I mean, they had one of the best pitching staffs
- 11:47Speaker 2: in the NL after June thirteenth. I don't know what clicked,
- 11:50Speaker 2: but something clicked on that team. Manaiah Quintana sever Reno,
- 11:55Speaker 2: and I told you I trusted Kinana in the big
- 11:58Speaker 2: games and he really not disappoint I thought, no.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I mean they all they all get thumbs up from me,
- 12:07Speaker 1: and you know, talking about how well they pitched, and
- 12:12Speaker 1: I think we talked about it before on other shows.
- 12:14Speaker 1: You really got to give a thumbs up to Jeremy Hefner,
- 12:18Speaker 1: the Met's pitching coach. I mean they worked on Sean
- 12:21Speaker 1: and I his arm angle and his second half of
- 12:27Speaker 1: the year was tremendous. He hasn't opt out in this deal.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I'm sure he's going to opt out, even though if
- 12:34Speaker 1: he doesn't, he gets paid fourteen million. Pretty good when
- 12:38Speaker 1: you can opt out of fourteen million bucks. But he's
- 12:42Speaker 1: probably going to get more. I don't think Jay D
- 12:44Speaker 1: Martinez is going to return. They'll go with a younger DH.
- 12:50Speaker 1: And it could it could be from inside the organization.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Remember everybody forgets this. Ronnie Mauricio got hurt in playing
- 12:57Speaker 1: winter ball in the Caribbean last year. The guy flat out.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Hit when he was a shining star of last September.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Wasn't he from was?
- 13:05Speaker 1: And uh, he's gonna be on the team next year
- 13:10Speaker 1: and he was probably gonna be the starting third baseman
- 13:12Speaker 1: this past year. So again that affects the Alonso free agency.
- 13:18Speaker 1: You got, you got Brett Baty. What are you gonna
- 13:20Speaker 1: do with him? Are you gonna are you gonna cut
- 13:22Speaker 1: cut him loose? Are you gonna trade him? It's a
- 13:25Speaker 1: very interesting scenario.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Baby's batted so good. If he wasn't injured, he would have.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Really the Mets need a lefty stick. He's a lefty stick.
- 13:37Speaker 1: So so it'll be an interesting offseason, uh for the Mets.
- 13:42Speaker 1: That was something we uh knew what happened, But coming
- 13:47Speaker 1: off this kind of season, you know, getting to the
- 13:50Speaker 1: third round of the Major League playoffs. Yeah, it's obviously
- 13:54Speaker 1: it's it's a successful year. Uh, they just got to
- 13:57Speaker 1: keep it going, you know. And uh then we get
- 14:00Speaker 1: to the other side of coin with the Yankees. And
- 14:04Speaker 1: the Yankees we knew were not gonna We said this
- 14:07Speaker 1: before the playoffs start, that their path to the World
- 14:09Speaker 1: Series was pretty easy. They were obviously much better than
- 14:15Speaker 1: the two teams that they played, the Royals and the Indians.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest with you. I was surprised they
- 14:21Speaker 1: had trouble. And I know they won three games to
- 14:25Speaker 1: one and four games to one. I thought they would
- 14:27Speaker 1: win a little easier during those games. But a couple
- 14:32Speaker 1: of things. Yankee fans, all you Yankee fans out there,
- 14:38Speaker 1: who for years have been torturing Stanton, I mean, Stanton
- 14:45Speaker 1: was tremendous fign.
- 14:47Speaker 2: The apology for him, as they say, right, yeah, the
- 14:50Speaker 2: apology form, because you know, and I thought he had
- 14:53Speaker 2: his ups and downs over the years, but this guy
- 14:59Speaker 2: has turned it on. I don't called him mister October,
- 15:01Speaker 2: that's Reggie right there. But you know, this guy has
- 15:04Speaker 2: turned it on. And you know what's cool about his
- 15:07Speaker 2: swing is it's almost like the gian Carlo when he
- 15:10Speaker 2: was miced it that one flick of the wrist and
- 15:12Speaker 2: it's gone like there's no I would say there's no effort,
- 15:16Speaker 2: but it looks effortless the way.
- 15:17Speaker 1: It does look effortless. And I don't know, it seems
- 15:21Speaker 1: like uh, in this playoff season, he's improved his bat
- 15:25Speaker 1: his bat speed. Don't again, I don't know.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Off the bat you knew that ball was gone. You
- 15:32Speaker 2: just kind of knew, oh, it's it's out of here
- 15:34Speaker 2: because he just had this swing about him. Maybe I
- 15:38Speaker 2: should get Richard Skigman back on the man who teaches
- 15:42Speaker 2: Judge tell us about the whole Yankee lamp swing, because
- 15:45Speaker 2: you know, it's it's been successful with John carlos So.
- 15:48Speaker 1: And the other the other Yankee that should take a bow.
- 15:52Speaker 1: And yet he was deservingly criticized because he did have
- 15:57Speaker 1: times where he had lack of was glabor Torres. But
- 16:03Speaker 1: he's hitting well and since they put him at the
- 16:05Speaker 1: top of the lineup, he's been an effective player. I
- 16:09Speaker 1: don't know if this is going to affect what happens
- 16:12Speaker 1: to him after the World Series, because his contract is up.
- 16:16Speaker 1: He will be a free agent. Will the Yankees resign
- 16:19Speaker 1: him at the beginning of the playoffs, I would say
- 16:22Speaker 1: no way. I still would figure they probably won't, but
- 16:26Speaker 1: you never know.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I will say this fifteen years ago, the last time
- 16:31Speaker 2: the Yankees won the World Series, Ajeki matsuiy won the
- 16:34Speaker 2: World Series MVP and was not on the Yankees the
- 16:37Speaker 2: next year. And you know, I kind of broke my
- 16:40Speaker 2: heart when Matt Sui signed with the Angels. But these guys, yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 2: they love the team, but they are about the money.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And unfortunately, I think Matsui was about the money or
- 16:48Speaker 2: something with the Angels. He just decided to go there.
- 16:51Speaker 2: But yeah, I'll never go when the World Series MVP
- 16:53Speaker 2: of OH nine went to a different team in the offseason,
- 16:57Speaker 2: that was that was something else.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Well, Ray Knight hit the home run that one in
- 17:01Speaker 1: nineteen eighty six World Series for the Mets and that
- 17:04Speaker 1: was the last game he ever played for the Mets.
- 17:06Speaker 1: He signed with the Orioles and next the next year
- 17:09Speaker 1: as a free agent that year, So, I mean, it happens.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I think the Yankees are in good shape. I mean,
- 17:15Speaker 1: obviously this is what Major League Baseball wanted. They wanted
- 17:18Speaker 1: Otani and versus Judge and again another playoff a couple
- 17:23Speaker 1: of series where Judge really didn't do anything and you know,
- 17:26Speaker 1: Judge had a red hot Stanton behind them and really
- 17:30Speaker 1: didn't do anything. So that's something to take a look at.
- 17:33Speaker 1: He's going to break out one of these days in
- 17:36Speaker 1: one of these series. No better time than do it again?
- 17:39Speaker 2: And when'd you want to do it in the place
- 17:40Speaker 2: where you tore your toe ligament in the Dodger Stadium
- 17:44Speaker 2: a year ago and really derailed your twenty twenty three.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I think that's such a great redemption moment for Judge
- 17:49Speaker 2: after being injured like that in Dodger Staate. Just come
- 17:52Speaker 2: back and you know, maybe turn on the jets a
- 17:54Speaker 2: little bit. We'll have to see.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Well, the thing is, you know, the thing is when
- 17:58Speaker 1: that injury happened on that that that Saturday afternoon, Uh,
- 18:04Speaker 1: it looked like okay, he was dated. Remember he was
- 18:07Speaker 1: day to day and he missed two months or you
- 18:10Speaker 1: know that that that was the crazy part about it.
- 18:14Speaker 1: But it did derail, derail the season.
- 18:16Speaker 2: And of the whole because if they had him and
- 18:19Speaker 2: now you know, we're going to see how who's on
- 18:22Speaker 2: the roster, who's off the roster, look, I cannot fall
- 18:26Speaker 2: And I was just going back and forth with this
- 18:28Speaker 2: Anthony Rizza. We've talked about him before and his bakery
- 18:31Speaker 2: in New Jersey and whatnot. But that guy deserves to
- 18:34Speaker 2: be in the lineup. I think the feeling mishaps he
- 18:37Speaker 2: had were tough to watch, but to hit the way
- 18:43Speaker 2: he hit with two fractured finger, who can do that?
- 18:46Speaker 1: I don't know who could do that. No, he's gonna
- 18:48Speaker 1: be on the roster.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I think he'll be in the Star line up one
- 18:52Speaker 2: hundred per I mean he'll be in there. So yeah,
- 18:55Speaker 2: But my point was, as tough as that was to
- 18:58Speaker 2: watch his fielding, you got to put him the lineup,
- 19:00Speaker 2: and it being of lineup. The difference between fifteen years
- 19:04Speaker 2: ago and now is the picture doesn't hit. So I
- 19:08Speaker 2: think the DH makes the difference in this series only
- 19:11Speaker 2: because it's you're gonna match up d age versus the
- 19:16Speaker 2: H here and that didn't happen fifteen years ago, so
- 19:19Speaker 2: it might be well.
- 19:21Speaker 1: In that matchup. Yeah, I know that Stanton's going to
- 19:25Speaker 1: be the DH. But showy Otani, right, I mean, my god,
- 19:32Speaker 1: what a great offensive player.
- 19:34Speaker 2: And all right, now you're starting to sound like Joe
- 19:36Speaker 2: Davis a little bit, Can you stop it?
- 19:38Speaker 1: No? Just oh man. I mean, Joe Davis a nice
- 19:43Speaker 1: guy and a good a good, solid announcer. But just
- 19:47Speaker 1: my opinion, we are going through an era right now
- 19:52Speaker 1: where we especially in a lot of sports, but especially
- 19:59Speaker 1: in baseball, there's not a number one, a number one
- 20:05Speaker 1: broadcaster of the caliber of Joe Buck or Al Michaels
- 20:12Speaker 1: when he did baseball, or the Big.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Three when the fifties Yankees and Dodgers played all the time,
- 20:19Speaker 2: mel Allen Vin Scully and I would say Bob wo
- 20:23Speaker 2: because he was in that category as well. Of course
- 20:26Speaker 2: he called the perfect game for Larson. I mean those three,
- 20:29Speaker 2: you can't match up with those.
- 20:31Speaker 1: He also had Read Barber. In those days, you had
- 20:35Speaker 1: the great Kirk Gowdy. I mean, we just don't right now.
- 20:40Speaker 1: We just don't have those type of broadcasters have presence
- 20:45Speaker 1: and charisma. We don't. That's just me, That's just my opinion.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Now, let me ask you this. I don't think Dave
- 20:54Speaker 2: Roberts can get away with doing a bullpag game in
- 20:57Speaker 2: this series. I don't understand that meant mentality well, doing
- 21:02Speaker 2: a bullpen game in the postseason, but against the Yanks
- 21:05Speaker 2: he may not be able to get away with that.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Well, again, I would disagree with you on that because
- 21:09Speaker 1: he was down two games to one to the Padres,
- 21:12Speaker 1: the season on the line, and he they pitched nine
- 21:19Speaker 1: different pitchers, won an inning and they won nine to nothing.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And then they end up winning games going back to
- 21:25Speaker 1: Los Angeles and they won Game five. Obviously they have.
- 21:29Speaker 4: They have pitching injuries, you know, uh, to to May,
- 21:33Speaker 4: to Kurshore, to the young rookie who has Tommy John's
- 21:39Speaker 4: gonna be out next year.
- 21:40Speaker 1: They have, you know, they have major pitching injuries. In
- 21:42Speaker 1: my opinion, the Yankees have the edge and pitching and
- 21:47Speaker 1: starting pitching. The Yankees are not gonna don't need to
- 21:50Speaker 1: do a bullpen game. Uh. They have the best pitcher
- 21:54Speaker 1: in this play in this series, in Cole. The lineups are.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I think the Dodgers lineup might be a little bit longer.
- 22:05Speaker 1: I think some of their secondary guys like like Muncie
- 22:10Speaker 1: and uh if will Smith comes out of it, I.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Was gonna say Will Smith is the guy. I mean
- 22:16Speaker 2: he is, and Austin Walla has done great, but this postseason,
- 22:20Speaker 2: you look at that matchup at catcher, Will Smith's the guy,
- 22:23Speaker 2: right there because he's been dominant behind the plate, has
- 22:26Speaker 2: been dominant, you know, hitting, and I always you know,
- 22:28Speaker 2: the thing about the Dodgers is also they hit homers,
- 22:31Speaker 2: but they also know how to do the dinks and
- 22:33Speaker 2: the dunks, and I just don't know if the Yanks
- 22:36Speaker 2: are gonna do that. We saw a little bit of
- 22:38Speaker 2: it against the Guardians, but they have to end. They cannot.
- 22:42Speaker 2: You're gonna face up against Mookie Betts, who is ultimately
- 22:45Speaker 2: one of the best best base dealers in the series.
- 22:48Speaker 2: You can't be picked off a first base. You can't
- 22:51Speaker 2: be doing a jets chism getting taken out at second base.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I mean, those base running errors.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Again, it is unbelievable. How and we talked about it.
- 23:03Speaker 1: We talked about it last week, We talked about it
- 23:07Speaker 1: throughout the season. The fact that the Yankees attention to
- 23:10Speaker 1: detail for a championship level team is so poor. It's
- 23:16Speaker 1: just surprising to me. But again, you know, I don't
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm not a big predictor. This is gonna be a
- 23:23Speaker 1: very good series. It's gonna be a long series. I don't.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I don't think when they play, who has a home
- 23:30Speaker 1: field advantage means that much. I think the Dodgers going
- 23:33Speaker 1: at the Yankee Stadium. I think the Yankees goin at
- 23:35Speaker 1: Dodgers Stadium.
- 23:38Speaker 2: I think God's going two out of three because in
- 23:41Speaker 2: that two out of three series, the Dodgers were the team. Okay,
- 23:45Speaker 2: they they just came in there. Yeah. O Tani was
- 23:48Speaker 2: actually homerless, I believe in that series. But they still
- 23:51Speaker 2: dominated the Yanks. And of course the Yanks are a
- 23:54Speaker 2: lot healthier than they were back then too. We got
- 23:56Speaker 2: to think about that.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and the Dodgers' pitching wise are not This is
- 24:01Speaker 1: this this will be a good This is a good
- 24:04Speaker 1: test for the Yankees. I mean, I think they have
- 24:06Speaker 1: they have a good chance. I actually think Dave, you know,
- 24:12Speaker 1: Dave Roberts, he's done a great job as managing as
- 24:17Speaker 1: managing this team this year.
- 24:20Speaker 5: And uh he's another he's another manager who keeps his poise,
- 24:24Speaker 5: and uh, you know, it should it should be Obviously
- 24:28Speaker 5: it's going to be a worldwide audience because of the
- 24:31Speaker 5: Otani factor.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Oh you have Howard Cosell. That's the guy that called
- 24:35Speaker 2: I believe the three World Series in seventy and then
- 24:40Speaker 2: eighty one. I believe he was there, wasn't he.
- 24:42Speaker 1: U Cosell called it was him Keith Jackson, And was
- 24:48Speaker 1: it Palmer who was the third guy? But it was
- 24:52Speaker 1: Keith Jackson to the play by play, Howard Cosell was
- 24:56Speaker 1: also part of that staff that that crew, and Jackson
- 25:02Speaker 1: hit the three home hit the three home runs in
- 25:07Speaker 1: Game six, three home runs from three different pitchers on
- 25:11Speaker 1: the first pitch from each at one of those pitchers.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And in seventy eight, was it was it back on NBC?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Well, I was gonna say, what do you remember from
- 25:26Speaker 2: those because the eighty one, I mean, it seemed like
- 25:30Speaker 2: the Dodgers and the Yanks were meeting a lot back
- 25:32Speaker 2: then in that era, and eighty one, I guess was
- 25:37Speaker 2: sort of a stunner, was it? Or were the Dodgers
- 25:39Speaker 2: were expected to win that series?
- 25:40Speaker 1: Well, you go back to seventy eight after the Reggie
- 25:45Speaker 1: hit the three home runs in seventy seven. In seventy eight,
- 25:48Speaker 1: the Dodgers won the first two games and then they
- 25:51Speaker 1: lost the next. They lost the next four. Katfishunter winning
- 25:58Speaker 1: Game six and Dodgers Stadium and Craig Nettles turned the
- 26:02Speaker 1: series around in Game three, the first game at Yankee
- 26:05Speaker 1: Stadium by probably saving five or six runs or the
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yankees would have been down three games none a brilliant
- 26:12Speaker 1: fielding performance by a brilliant fielding third baseman. Netles was
- 26:16Speaker 1: a brilliant fielder. Then in eighty one was I don't
- 26:21Speaker 1: know it was. It was that stupid split season because
- 26:24Speaker 1: of the strike that you know, the Yankees and Dodgers
- 26:27Speaker 1: boats were designated as first half winners when they came
- 26:31Speaker 1: back from the strike, and you know, it was a
- 26:36Speaker 1: six game series there was the teams were the teams
- 26:42Speaker 1: were basically equal. That series was Reggie Jackson's last series
- 26:48Speaker 1: as a Yankee, not only World Series but series of
- 26:52Speaker 1: any type, because the next year he signed a five
- 26:54Speaker 1: year deal with the with the California Angels, So that
- 26:59Speaker 1: that that was almost like a turning point because after
- 27:02Speaker 1: that eighty one season, even though it strike shortened, the
- 27:05Speaker 1: Yankees were basically not very good as far as getting
- 27:11Speaker 1: into the playoffs. They had the draft until late until
- 27:14Speaker 1: they made the playoffs in ninety five, and then they
- 27:16Speaker 1: won the World Series in ninety six when they pulled
- 27:19Speaker 1: a major upset against the Braves when the Braves pounded
- 27:22Speaker 1: them the first two games at the Yankee Stadium and
- 27:25Speaker 1: the Yankees came back to win the next four.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Well, people, you know I remember in ninety I know
- 27:29Speaker 2: in ninety five they didn't even get past the will
- 27:33Speaker 2: I mean, they didn't even really get past the LDS.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Right. So ninety five the Yankees when the first two
- 27:40Speaker 1: games in New York and was the last three in Seattle,
- 27:43Speaker 1: the last game a memorable extra inning game at the
- 27:50Speaker 1: old Kingdome. And no, so it was.
- 27:54Speaker 2: It was actually fifteen years after eighty one since they
- 27:58Speaker 2: went to the Alcs in the World Series. So you know,
- 28:02Speaker 2: the ninety six Alcs had the whole Jeffrey Mayer thing.
- 28:06Speaker 3: It was.
- 28:06Speaker 2: It was quite a drama.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Well, if there was instant replay in those days, Joe
- 28:11Speaker 1: Torrey might have been fired after that series because mister Steinbrenner,
- 28:15Speaker 1: who fired Buck Showalter the year before, after the guy
- 28:18Speaker 1: made the playoffs for the you know, yank like you said,
- 28:22Speaker 1: the Yankees' first playoff appearance since nineteen eighty one, he fired.
- 28:26Speaker 1: He fired Showalter because they lost the to nothing lead.
- 28:31Speaker 1: If just think how history would have been changed if
- 28:33Speaker 1: they had instant replay. That that's not a home run
- 28:37Speaker 1: by Jeter. He's called out on fan interference and the
- 28:42Speaker 1: Yankees still had four outs to come back from a
- 28:48Speaker 1: four to three deficit. But say they didn't, and remember
- 28:52Speaker 1: what happened the next day. David Wells shut them out
- 28:55Speaker 1: five nothing for the Oreos. So if the Yankees were
- 28:59Speaker 1: down two games to none, the Orioles probably win one
- 29:02Speaker 1: of the games in Baltimore. And I bet you Joe
- 29:05Speaker 1: Toy would have gotten fired. How about that?
- 29:08Speaker 2: But that's baseball season, as.
- 29:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I gotta say to today and this is the biggest
- 29:17Speaker 2: knock I have on the Mets. Either Bueller was really
- 29:23Speaker 2: go you know, really fueled up, or I'd say he
- 29:26Speaker 2: was really in the groove there against Lindor and these guys,
- 29:31Speaker 2: or they did not get the bat off the bat
- 29:33Speaker 2: off the shoulder. I don't understand in the bottom of
- 29:36Speaker 2: the third person when the bases loaded against Bueller, was
- 29:39Speaker 2: he fooling everybody? Or were they not swinging? Like? Why
- 29:42Speaker 2: did they strand the basis loaded like that, especially against Bueller?
- 29:45Speaker 2: And could that happen to the Yankees or will they swing.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Well against Lindor. The one thing that Dodgers pitches did
- 29:52Speaker 1: throughout the series, they basically never threw in the same
- 29:55Speaker 1: pitch twice in a sequence. And you know, Bueller pitched
- 30:02Speaker 1: four innings ninety pitches, sixty one strikes, ninety pitches in
- 30:09Speaker 1: four innings. Okay, you know, the Mets probably should have
- 30:15Speaker 1: been a better job. They left it in the four losses.
- 30:20Speaker 1: They left thirty eight guys on base. Even last night,
- 30:24Speaker 1: after six things, they left the eleven eleven on base.
- 30:29Speaker 2: So I mean it's out of potential for the Yanks
- 30:32Speaker 2: to look out for that. These pitchers are throwing stuff
- 30:34Speaker 2: that you know, it might be a little terrific.
- 30:37Speaker 1: The only the only pitcher and the only and he
- 30:40Speaker 1: even last five innings is Yamamoto. And Yamamoto pitched a
- 30:44Speaker 1: very good game against the Yankees in the regular season,
- 30:46Speaker 1: which means nothing, nothing in the World Series. But I
- 30:50Speaker 1: don't know the Yankees. I mean, buell is coming off,
- 30:53Speaker 1: you know, major surgery. I mean, I think Yankees have
- 30:57Speaker 1: a big advantage in the in the pitching area, and uh,
- 31:01Speaker 1: you know when the Yankees have a have a deep lineup, lou.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Last thing I want to get to and I don't
- 31:06Speaker 2: feel like talking football, because that's just a mess. We're
- 31:09Speaker 2: good to deal with that end of the day. I'm
- 31:10Speaker 2: so focused on this Super Bowl week of World Series
- 31:13Speaker 2: talk and and all that you want an event about
- 31:18Speaker 2: the Umps. I wanted to say, there's no way that
- 31:23Speaker 2: years from now we find out, well, you know, the
- 31:25Speaker 2: Umps are calling things against the Mets to make it
- 31:27Speaker 2: a Dodger Yankees World Series. I mean, we'll never get
- 31:30Speaker 2: anything and that that that.
- 31:32Speaker 1: That would that would not happen. That I mean the
- 31:35Speaker 1: umpiring behind home plate. I don't know what's what's a
- 31:39Speaker 1: ball and a strike anymore that but they they were
- 31:43Speaker 1: not trying to set up a Dodgy a Checker Yankee
- 31:47Speaker 1: world Series. No way, no way, no way, no way.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Under on the thought of umpiring, what did you like,
- 31:56Speaker 2: I know that you were frustrated.
- 31:57Speaker 6: Though, oh I would frustrated with the ball and strike
- 32:01Speaker 6: goals very first, right, I mean, I think we're going
- 32:05Speaker 6: to go as soon as they have the computer a
- 32:08Speaker 6: strike zone, you know what perfected.
- 32:12Speaker 1: You're going to see it, because I mean, it was
- 32:14Speaker 1: a pitch in one of the games to Jesse Winker
- 32:18Speaker 1: that was a foot outside and they called it a strike.
- 32:25Speaker 1: And when the the game last week, game two where
- 32:33Speaker 1: the Met's one seven to three, it was one two
- 32:36Speaker 1: pitch two were Freddie Freeman and out it was strike
- 32:41Speaker 1: three and they called it the ball and the next
- 32:44Speaker 1: the next pitch, Diaz got Freeman to swing and miss.
- 32:51Speaker 1: But these homeplate umpires not good as far as calling
- 32:57Speaker 1: balls and strike That's frustrating to me that that really is.
- 33:02Speaker 2: I thought the other day Tim Hill was going to
- 33:04Speaker 2: be thrown out of the game because the umbe was like,
- 33:06Speaker 2: you want to stay, you want to stay. It was
- 33:08Speaker 2: kind of a crazy thing in Cleveland. Hey, you know
- 33:11Speaker 2: you mentioned Freddy Freeman, and I want to go there
- 33:16Speaker 2: for a minute. He's obviously going to be in the
- 33:18Speaker 2: lineup despite his struggles or Willy, what do you think
- 33:20Speaker 2: Roberts is going to do with him.
- 33:23Speaker 1: If the only way he doesn't play is if he
- 33:26Speaker 1: has an ankle injury hasn't gotten any better. And you know,
- 33:32Speaker 1: they kept him out of Game six, and that was
- 33:35Speaker 1: pre playing. They said before the series that he may
- 33:38Speaker 1: not play every every day, so they the Dodgers got
- 33:42Speaker 1: fortunate they kept him out of Game six. They won
- 33:44Speaker 1: Game six. There was no game on Saturday. That was
- 33:48Speaker 1: a travel day because he played Friday in New York
- 33:51Speaker 1: and now he won't play until he won't play until
- 33:55Speaker 1: Friday night. Obviously, Otani's the h so he can't through
- 34:00Speaker 1: Freeman Campy to the age. But Freddy Freeman is playing,
- 34:03Speaker 1: and he is. I mean, they got three Hall of
- 34:06Speaker 1: Famers at the top of that lineup in Otani, Bets
- 34:11Speaker 1: and Freddy Freeman, and you know it's gonna be a
- 34:17Speaker 1: very interesting series. It's what Major League Baseball wanted. And
- 34:21Speaker 1: again not they didn't fix anything, but that's what Major
- 34:24Speaker 1: League Baseball wanted and they got it. So so we'll see.
- 34:30Speaker 1: But just a couple of quick things, and we don't
- 34:34Speaker 1: really want to go into football, but I just want
- 34:36Speaker 1: to give a couple of shout outs. You want to
- 34:38Speaker 1: give a shout out to Army and Navy. Army seven
- 34:41Speaker 1: to zero, Navy six and zero, and their offenses are prolific.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Army is back to its incredible running game. They've only
- 34:52Speaker 1: turned the ball over once this year, led by Bryce
- 34:57Speaker 1: and Daly, who I think should be a Heisman Trophy candidate.
- 35:00Speaker 1: He won't be, but the guy runs that offense brilliantly
- 35:06Speaker 1: and they're very fun team to watch. But you know
- 35:10Speaker 1: what they're going to do and you still can't stop
- 35:12Speaker 1: them because they're going to run that option most of
- 35:14Speaker 1: the time. They throw the ball a little bit more
- 35:17Speaker 1: than they used to. But seven to OZ and six
- 35:22Speaker 1: and oh for the Naval Academy makes it interesting as
- 35:25Speaker 1: we continue down the road here. So that that's one
- 35:29Speaker 1: thing I wanted to wanted to mention. We all want
- 35:32Speaker 1: to talk about the Jets and the Giants who right
- 35:35Speaker 1: now in nowhere going no place, but we could talk
- 35:39Speaker 1: about them another time, unless you want to talk about now.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Lex Well, no, I mean, the one thing is it
- 35:44Speaker 2: looks like Rogers and Wilson tried to make nice and
- 35:48Speaker 2: I guess they connected last night. And you know, here's
- 35:52Speaker 2: a guy that's looking so frustrated on the sideline, yet
- 35:55Speaker 2: wants to rush and make a new deal with the Jets.
- 35:58Speaker 2: It's kind of an interesting paradise. I think he looks
- 36:01Speaker 2: so frustrated and miserable yet once to keep playing. Does
- 36:03Speaker 2: he see hope for this team?
- 36:05Speaker 1: Or what are you talking to? Are you talking about Rogers?
- 36:09Speaker 2: Rogers?
- 36:10Speaker 1: Oh? Well, as I said before the season began, this
- 36:13Speaker 1: might be the only year that Rogers plays for this team.
- 36:16Speaker 1: But Rogers is a perfectionist. It's a four time MVP.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Remember as recently as as twenty and twenty one, he
- 36:26Speaker 1: went back to back MVPs William ten years ago. He
- 36:31Speaker 1: gets frusht he got frustrated especially, and you know he said,
- 36:34Speaker 1: I got to play better. I thought he played very
- 36:36Speaker 1: well last night. I did think one of the turning
- 36:40Speaker 1: points of the game when that that interception at the
- 36:43Speaker 1: end of the first half. But again, he throws that
- 36:48Speaker 1: ball on right right onto the chest of Gary Wilson,
- 36:54Speaker 1: and Gary Wilson just pops in the air and that
- 36:56Speaker 1: becomes it becomes an interception the other.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Way train interest Garrett Wilson, by the way, teams are
- 37:02Speaker 2: interested in him. Will they trade him or not? I
- 37:03Speaker 2: don't think so.
- 37:04Speaker 1: No, they called, but the Jets that that they're not
- 37:08Speaker 1: doing that. But anything can happen if they seems sweetened
- 37:12Speaker 1: the pot enough. They're not going to do that. Uh,
- 37:15Speaker 1: the Jets are just out of sink. That second half
- 37:18Speaker 1: last night after a very good first half, was was
- 37:21Speaker 1: horrible defensively. And I don't know if it's the fact
- 37:24Speaker 1: that Jeff Ulbrick, uh, the defensive coordinator, is now the
- 37:28Speaker 1: head coach and that's effected that. I thought they would
- 37:31Speaker 1: bring in a defensive consultant to help him out, but
- 37:35Speaker 1: they didn't. They probably figured they have enough guys on
- 37:39Speaker 1: the staff, who can who can do that? You know,
- 37:46Speaker 1: last week it's is there on my hitting a two
- 37:49Speaker 1: goal post? You know, last night it's it's Russell Wilson
- 37:55Speaker 1: throwing a pass on third down that hits Isaiah Oliver
- 38:02Speaker 1: on his left shoulder and bounces high in the air
- 38:05Speaker 1: and it's caught by pickings. They had break for the Jets, obviously,
- 38:09Speaker 1: Wilson not corralling that pass and knocking that into it
- 38:13Speaker 1: the air for an interception. I mean, how do you
- 38:16Speaker 1: figure that stuff out? You know, it's just crazy, And
- 38:22Speaker 1: I think, I mean, I don't know what the rest
- 38:25Speaker 1: of the season holds for them.
- 38:26Speaker 2: And and I don't know about the Giants.
- 38:31Speaker 1: But the frustrating part, there's too frustrating, different frust frustration.
- 38:38Speaker 1: The frustration for the Giants is they don't have enough
- 38:41Speaker 1: NFL talent on their roster. The frustrating part for the
- 38:46Speaker 1: Jets is they have NFL talent on the roster and
- 38:49Speaker 1: for whatever reason are not putting it together. Is it
- 38:53Speaker 1: poor coaching staff? Is it? Is it that they're just
- 38:57Speaker 1: out of sinc I mean, there's no way they should
- 39:00Speaker 1: be two and five. There's no way. And I just
- 39:04Speaker 1: I think I think both seasons are basically I know
- 39:07Speaker 1: it's only seven games in, but as the old saying is,
- 39:12Speaker 1: it's getting late early, and I don't I think the
- 39:17Speaker 1: rest of the NFL season is going to be locally,
- 39:23Speaker 1: is going to be an unattractive one. So so you know,
- 39:27Speaker 1: that's that's basically it.
- 39:29Speaker 2: The one thing about the Chiefs Niners game this week
- 39:32Speaker 2: is it looks like they are in different trajectory since
- 39:36Speaker 2: last year's Super Bowl, don't they. I mean the Niners,
- 39:39Speaker 2: I know they don't have McCaffrey, but they are just spiraling. Meanwhile,
- 39:42Speaker 2: the Chiefs ascendants is just it is almost unbelievable how
- 39:48Speaker 2: much of an ascension they've had since they're not stopping
- 39:51Speaker 2: Mahomes is not stopping anytime soon.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Well again, look at it this way. Mahomes hasn't had
- 39:56Speaker 1: a great year. Now he's still the best player in
- 39:58Speaker 1: the league, but he had had a great offensive year.
- 40:01Speaker 1: They don't have great offensive players, you know, they have some.
- 40:05Speaker 1: They have injuries, Pacheco Rice, these guys are hurt. They're
- 40:09Speaker 1: not coming back. But the one thing that this team
- 40:11Speaker 1: has that the other teams didn't, and they always had
- 40:14Speaker 1: they had a good defense, but they have an outstanding
- 40:17Speaker 1: defense of young athletic players. And that's given Steve Spagnola,
- 40:23Speaker 1: who I always thought was a little overrated as for
- 40:27Speaker 1: the attention that he got as a defensive coach, but
- 40:30Speaker 1: given Spagnola even more of an opportunity to do things
- 40:34Speaker 1: that he likes to do, He's and Spagnola's doing an
- 40:37Speaker 1: outstanding job with that young defense. The Chiefs are a
- 40:42Speaker 1: defensive team as much as they are an offensive team.
- 40:45Speaker 1: And I'm sure, I'm sure you might see them make
- 40:48Speaker 1: a trade at the deadline for another receiver, but they're
- 40:52Speaker 1: six or zero, and yeah, they're the best team in
- 40:57Speaker 1: the NFL. They have a great, full Hall of Fame coach.
- 41:00Speaker 1: They have a Hall of Fame quarterback. Yes he hasn't
- 41:02Speaker 1: put the numbers up, you know. They they have a
- 41:06Speaker 1: Hall of Fame tight end. Yeah, he hasn't had a
- 41:09Speaker 1: great year as he normally does, but they still have
- 41:12Speaker 1: that mahomes Uh and Travis Kelsey chemistry. The Chiefs are
- 41:18Speaker 1: the Chiefs are the Chiefs. You could that you could
- 41:21Speaker 1: see their greatness for a reason. The Niners, it's just
- 41:26Speaker 1: that they've had them, not only the McCaffrey injury, you know,
- 41:28Speaker 1: it is achilles tendonitis. But now yesterday Brandon Ayuk out
- 41:35Speaker 1: for the year torn mc L and ACL. Yesterday he
- 41:40Speaker 1: only played four plays. Deebo Samuel pneumonia, So, uh, I
- 41:45Speaker 1: don't know how long he'll be out. And uh, you
- 41:50Speaker 1: know the Niners don't have Jason Hargrave torn triceps, done
- 41:55Speaker 1: for the year. Uh, Dre Greenlaw, the terrific UH linebacker
- 42:02Speaker 1: still out with his achilles there so who knows when
- 42:05Speaker 1: he's coming back? Uh, they have a safe a safety man.
- 42:10Speaker 1: One of their safeties is injured with a with a
- 42:14Speaker 1: ligament damage in his wrists. So they've had a ton
- 42:17Speaker 1: of injuries they have had. They've had a ton of injuries.
- 42:21Speaker 1: I don't know if they can overcome them. And when
- 42:25Speaker 1: you don't have your offensive players like they don't even
- 42:30Speaker 1: a kid like Party who can make every throw and
- 42:33Speaker 1: has quick feet go through a couple of interceptions that
- 42:37Speaker 1: he normally doesn't throw. So it fits everything. You know.
- 42:41Speaker 1: You can't you can't play what injured got without your
- 42:44Speaker 1: without your key guys.
- 42:46Speaker 2: So and that's why the Giants are gonna have trouble
- 42:49Speaker 2: without Thomas. But lou loved having you this week We'll
- 42:53Speaker 2: get the more football next week. I'm just so repped up.
- 42:56Speaker 2: We got the Yanks and Dodgers and uh, maybe I'll
- 42:59Speaker 2: send you Aselfie in the World Series. Let's see if
- 43:01Speaker 2: we get in there this year.
- 43:04Speaker 1: I wish, yeah, I wish a lot of luck trying
- 43:06Speaker 1: to get it, trying to get a ticket for the
- 43:09Speaker 1: World Series. Get some tickets now, Alex, Uh, who do
- 43:14Speaker 1: you think is? Do you want to make a prediction?
- 43:17Speaker 2: The Yanks in five? And with that, I'll give you
- 43:20Speaker 2: my key real quick. My key is they got a
- 43:22Speaker 2: score early against them. They cannot have the base running
- 43:25Speaker 2: mistakes and you put homes in the seventh or eighth,
- 43:31Speaker 2: not an extras and I think the Yanks are good.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Luke Weaver had his Mario Rivera Guardian slash Indians initiation
- 43:38Speaker 2: the other night. I think that means he's their closer. Okay,
- 43:41Speaker 2: if you get an initiation against the Indians, then you
- 43:43Speaker 2: mean you're good. Because they seemed to only beat really
- 43:47Speaker 2: good closers like Mariano in their young stages of being
- 43:50Speaker 2: a closer. So I had that flashback when they beat
- 43:55Speaker 2: uh Weaver that night, and then, of course I think
- 44:00Speaker 2: d H. I still think Santon has the edge I
- 44:02Speaker 2: know Tony's incredible, but I think Stanton's on a hot
- 44:05Speaker 2: streak that that might overpower that DH spot. We'll have
- 44:09Speaker 2: to see.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I know that that that could be true. I
- 44:12Speaker 1: get the I actually get the Yankees a little bit
- 44:15Speaker 1: of a slight edge. I mean, it's obviously it's an
- 44:18Speaker 1: even series. I think Vegas has the Yankees slightly favored.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I mean has the Dodgers slightly favored. So uh yeah, no,
- 44:27Speaker 1: it's gonna it's gonna be an interesting series.
- 44:30Speaker 2: And the old school baseball, Louis, that's what we love
- 44:34Speaker 2: as baseball purists.
- 44:35Speaker 1: So base baseball is still the greatest sport of them all,
- 44:38Speaker 1: that's for sure. So and I as you know, you're
- 44:41Speaker 1: talking to a guy who loves all sports.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Hey, Howie rose felt fifteen and he's seventy. So even
- 44:47Speaker 2: even the older generation still love the game of baseball
- 44:50Speaker 2: as if they're a kid again. And that's what I've
- 44:52Speaker 2: been talking about all week, embracing the inner child that
- 44:56Speaker 2: is the love of the game. For the love of
- 44:57Speaker 2: the game, that's kind of how I feel.
- 44:59Speaker 1: So and I agree with you one hundred Louis.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Love you man, Thank you for joining on another Terminello's
- 45:05Speaker 2: take this week.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Alex, thank you for always having me. It's always a pleasure,
- 45:10Speaker 1: all right.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Luke Terminello, thanks for joining me. And I gotta shout
- 45:13Speaker 2: this out if you've been following my journey on the
- 45:15Speaker 2: Yankees Empire run by Jacob Baroner, Jacob b Speaks and
- 45:21Speaker 2: Darth Envy, they are throwing a watch party, that's right,
- 45:24Speaker 2: a watch party this Friday night for Game one, and
- 45:28Speaker 2: as a journalist, I went to the Yanks watch party
- 45:32Speaker 2: with Keith McPherson and the Bronzoo this last week. This week,
- 45:36Speaker 2: we're going to be at five hundred Broadway. This week,
- 45:40Speaker 2: we're going to be a fifty to sixty Broadway and
- 45:44Speaker 2: Brown Sugar is actually the name of the place. They're
- 45:47Speaker 2: going to be at the first ever viewing party with
- 45:50Speaker 2: the largest baseball community on X the Yankees Empire, which
- 45:54Speaker 2: is that twenty one thousand followers. So we'll be there,
- 45:56Speaker 2: Gabby will be there with me, and it'll be an
- 45:58Speaker 2: exciting night as the Yankees and Dodgers rivalry renewed once again.
- 46:04Speaker 2: We'll have more on that thanks to Mike Vaccaro tomorrow
- 46:08Speaker 2: as we are having one leg up on the World
- 46:10Speaker 2: Series on this network for you, the fans,
