- The DECAF Network: Hey, it's Dex, creator of Reboot Player One and host at the Checkpoint. And today's question is Am I chasing the wrong things? Am I chasing the wrong things? I can tell you that I think now, twenty twenty six, ⁓ I'll be turning fifty in about six months time. That I don't think I don't think I'm chasing the wrong things. As of this second. Maybe ask me again an hour when I'm searching through Facebook Marketplace and and looking to buy something that I probably don't need and you know, maybe somebody on social media said it was cool. think overall no what I'm really trying to build and grow and get to isn't the wrong thing. And that's helping people. People my age, males, females, that are all asking the same questions. Questions like this, funnily enough. So that overall goal, that overall thing that I'm trying to build and work towards, I don't believe that that's the ⁓ that's the wrong thing. Having said that, I do get distracted and I do look at things and and think to myself, I think that's I think that's pretty cool. Maybe I want that. Maybe I want that because I've always wanted that and I've got a bit of money. Maybe I want that because I saw it ⁓ on a on a YouTube ad. Maybe I saw that because I want to make this thing go faster or this thing be shinier. Maybe it'll make me feel good. And when it comes to material things, yeah. I think if I if I start to chase those, then I think they're the wrong thing. Now, the older I get, the more that I'm aware of certain things about myself, you know, the way that I act. around when I kind of want something, when I think something will be cool, when I want to complete something that might require, you know, purchasing a piece of hardware or a, you know, or a car part. I I I know that I I get into a bit of a tease with this sort of stuff. And then I definitely know that I'm chasing the wrong thing. And it's a difficult thing to to try and stop and multiple times I've had to struggle between, you know, resisting the urge to just mindlessly scroll ⁓ on on car sites, on Facebook groups, on you know, on places where I can buy things online, just so I can scratch a particular itch it particular itch or to complete the part of a project or to have a car look the way that I want. I I'm guilty of that. And the really crappy thing is I know when I'm doing it and I'm aware that it's not the right thing to do. Look, I'm not saying it's not the right thing to do, but I'm aware that it's the thing that I shouldn't be doing. But it's kind of what I want to do. And it's really difficult for me to to stop. You know, it it really revolves the things. Let me let me just make it a bit easier to understand. I love cars. Always have, always will. and I'm a I'm a car modifier. I'm not a I consider myself more of a person that modifies cars than to just buy it and then look at it. I buy cars and then I think to myself, ooh, I want to buy new wheels, or I want to make it faster, or I want to make this thing look red, or I want to, you know, do anything for a car. Even though the car itself is perfectly fine. I just like modifying cars. And I know that when I get new cars, and these aren't expensive cars, these are just cars for transport, cars for my my kids, cars for, you know, just daily stuff. Regardless of the car, I want to tinker with it. And I do research. There are things that I want, and I have this drive to get this particular piece. You know, I'll search on forums, I'll look on ⁓ marketplace, I'll go to all the different places, I'll go on eBay, I'll I'll want to buy this thing at the cheapest price. And more often than not, I get it. ⁓ you know, these parts aren't expensive by any means. but it's there could be lots of them. So the overall cost could be something that I really shouldn't be spending that much money on. But it's me. And I like this sort of stuff. And throughout the entire process, I I know that I I don't need to be spending this money. I should save it, maybe spend it on something a bit more ⁓ a bit wiser, it's probably a better way. But what really gets me going is my my dedication, my drive and my passion to get this part, to have this car look a particular way, go a particular way. And that astounds me because trying to harness that part of me and direct it into something else. Has been really difficult. And I'm not saying that ⁓ the other things out of modifying cars is any less important to me. It's just knowing that I have the ability to have that focus, to have that drive, to have that discipline to source something for a very menial task like modifying a car a car. It frustrates me that I know that I have that in me, but it's difficult for me to then focus that kind of ⁓ attention, emotion, energy to something else. So am I focusing on the wrong things? Was that the question? Am I chasing the wrong things? Hm. The big chase, no. I want to help people. I want to get people together. I want to build a community. I want to have some fun. I want to share ideas. I want to learn. So the big chase, no. The side chases, the ⁓ things that, you know, instead of going down the straight line, I sort of go, Well, I'll go here and then back onto the straight line and then go to another direction. Yeah. Yep. I think ⁓ those are the wrong things. Now, whether or not I'll be able to curtail those bad habits, I don't think so. I don't think so. But, you know, it's something that I like to be made aware of and to cons consciously try and change myself. Now I don't have the opportunity to do it every day. I'm not buying cars every week and you know, I'm not spending money on mods every other day. But I do know that when I'm faced with certain decisions on whether I want to buy something based off a need or buy something based off I think it's cool, I'll be made more aware of that. And if it's something that I just think is cool, I do take some time to pause and go, Do I really need this? Like is this just something that I want? It's not going to improve anything. It's just more of a the fact that I think it'll look cool. I question myself a lot. And look, I'm getting there, I think. I still tend to to focus on that. And I I don't know whether it's just because it's just who I am. But it's something that I'm aware of and I think it's something that I I actually enjoy seeing myself make these decisions because I can kinda psychoanalyse myself, which I enjoy doing, and then hopefully at some point make the smarter decision and instead of chasing the wrong things, start chasing the right things. So at this point in time, it's a yes and no answer. The big picture chase? No. It's perfectly the right thing to go for. The ⁓ little side quests and the the side chases that seem to pop up, yeah. They're definitely the wrong things. Will I change? Maybe. I hope so. ⁓ some of these perches are just stupid. They're car stuff. And if you're a car guy, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. ⁓ if you're not a car guy, then you'll think I'm I'm just stupid for spending money. Either way, you're both right. And either way, we both think we're stupid. All right. ⁓ that's it for today. ⁓ if you have been asking yourself questions like this, and or know people that might be asking themselves this question, we do this sort of thing every Wednesday. ⁓ you can visit the website tc.rebootplayer1.com, and I will see you on the next question. Bye.
