- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Dude, you missed a lot on the day
- 0:15Speaker 1: that you ducked me. I was afraid to put his mic.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'll do radio Ye sky Moore, which is another guy,
- 0:20Speaker 1: you know, just quick, versatile guy that can move, and
- 0:23Speaker 1: you were ducking. I talked to all the hut I know, well,
- 0:26Speaker 1: I was scared of you, Paul, and I needed to,
- 0:28Speaker 1: you know, just have the dead dad. Like I said,
- 0:31Speaker 1: I really like just watching the kids in that. Anything
- 0:33Speaker 1: to get away from Paul, right, that's what I like.
- 0:35Speaker 1: He ducked more and more Faull and Eric ideology front
- 0:38Speaker 1: and we took a bit of a shot last year.
- 0:40Speaker 1: But I sh'll see in this two hundred page racking
- 0:45Speaker 1: Duscian kil Trees, Save Animals, Kilt Trees. The next show,
- 0:51Speaker 1: he's going to have a lot of printed material. Here
- 0:53Speaker 1: is a different dude when Paul is not in Pound.
- 0:56Speaker 1: No question, there's so much dead air. You gotta talk
- 0:59Speaker 1: like sit here, it's just shot at me. I actually
- 1:05Speaker 1: shot at me for talking all the time. So I
- 1:07Speaker 1: think Bolin, you know, saying he's very excited, you know,
- 1:10Speaker 1: to be that is it? Cream cheese, cream cheese. This
- 1:14Speaker 1: is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All Right, welcome the
- 1:20Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Gillette Stadium, and
- 1:25Speaker 1: I'm I'm excited. I'm excited these owners. Mean, he's got
- 1:28Speaker 1: me going. You know, Bill's talking talk for half an hour.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Then the owner talked this morning. We'll have that in
- 1:35Speaker 1: full on Patriots dot com. You know, I'm you know, well,
- 1:40Speaker 1: we're getting ready, We're getting closer. I got excited with
- 1:43Speaker 1: the Panthers joined practice thing, just like it's coming at
- 1:46Speaker 1: about that real football up here. That stuff that that excited.
- 1:50Speaker 1: That's here. Yeah, Panthers are coming uh for UH joint
- 1:55Speaker 1: practice this training camp. I guess um Matt Rule had
- 1:58Speaker 1: said that it just needed to be approved. Yeah, no
- 2:00Speaker 1: league approval, but I mean that sounds to me like
- 2:03Speaker 1: a formality. Dudu has an updates. Matt Rule gonna wear
- 2:06Speaker 1: the outfit he wore for his UH head coach. You
- 2:09Speaker 1: saw that meme too with him. They killed. One of
- 2:13Speaker 1: these guys won the Super Bowl. The other one is
- 2:15Speaker 1: Sam Darnold. Funny. It's like you wonder why Bill Belichick
- 2:17Speaker 1: skips these things every year because it just becomes like
- 2:20Speaker 1: my buddy Brandt is doing a full breakdown of everybody's outfit.
- 2:24Speaker 1: It's like that has nothing to do with why Bill Belichick.
- 2:27Speaker 1: By my count, four coaches skipped it. I think I
- 2:30Speaker 1: counted twenty eight in the picture. I think you're right,
- 2:32Speaker 1: Freddy and you Reid, I didn't. I don't think I
- 2:34Speaker 1: didn't see Andy Reid. You would have noticed him. I
- 2:37Speaker 1: thought I did see him. I know, I don't think
- 2:38Speaker 1: he was in it. Hard to miss my thing the back. Yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 1: So anyway, so much to talk about, and U I
- 2:45Speaker 1: guess we start with Bill Belichick and Robert crafts um
- 2:51Speaker 1: press appearances yesterday and today. Um, you know, Bill was
- 2:56Speaker 1: his usual I'm looking forward, you know, not talk about
- 3:00Speaker 1: how things ended last year, although Mike Reese, uh he tried,
- 3:05Speaker 1: he tried. You know, Bill at that time said you know,
- 3:10Speaker 1: we'll see if it's a one time thing or and
- 3:13Speaker 1: Reese said, you know now that you've had more time,
- 3:15Speaker 1: which was it, And He's like, we're looking forward to
- 3:18Speaker 1: twenty twenty two. So that was that, And I think
- 3:21Speaker 1: you know, the people that were there, Ben voland Mike Reees,
- 3:24Speaker 1: Tom Curran most notably for me, you know, try to
- 3:29Speaker 1: you know, delve into you know, the philosophy for this offseason,
- 3:34Speaker 1: you know, about not being as aggressive in free agency,
- 3:38Speaker 1: not giving titles to coaches, you know, losing certain coaches,
- 3:43Speaker 1: how that affects Mac Jones, all the things that we've
- 3:45Speaker 1: been talking about and that fans are concerned about. But
- 3:49Speaker 1: Bill didn't seem that concerned about it. And that made
- 3:51Speaker 1: me feel good. That made me feel good, like, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 1: he's okay. If he's okay, I'm okay. I just I'll
- 4:01Speaker 1: leave you guys to talk about the details. Yes, Paul,
- 4:04Speaker 1: can I ask? Can I ask at a side? Yeah?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Does this now mean that they're back in the hunt? No?
- 4:08Speaker 1: Oh okay, No, I just wanted again. No, but see,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I need to see. That means I have a challenge again.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I have to do that now. I need to see
- 4:15Speaker 1: more evidence if I'm going to change my posture, I
- 4:18Speaker 1: need to see more. But at least you know Bill's okay,
- 4:23Speaker 1: and he's he's swat and flies like he usually does,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and that's okay. I I cracked me up his reaction.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm sure Paul tell us it was played.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But when they asked him about Malcolm Butler and we're
- 4:37Speaker 1: you know, I mean, how how things ended, and he's
- 4:39Speaker 1: like just the genuine I don't know if he's acting,
- 4:41Speaker 1: but the genuine look of confusion of like, what like,
- 4:45Speaker 1: it's just funny about the super Bowl Malcolm, butl you know, Malcolm,
- 4:48Speaker 1: He's like, what, I don't not to the past, like
- 4:50Speaker 1: it was just one of those funny moments where his
- 4:52Speaker 1: example of and as you said, Fred, they it's just like,
- 4:55Speaker 1: I don't call it the airing of grievances, but it's
- 4:57Speaker 1: like every single storyline that we've talked about that is
- 5:00Speaker 1: driving the offseason, they put it on his plate and
- 5:02Speaker 1: he's like, I don't know, you know, and it's not
- 5:05Speaker 1: like cons my favorite answer, I don't know. Yeah, you know,
- 5:08Speaker 1: but he has his plan, his way of doing things,
- 5:11Speaker 1: and you know, and and as Robert said today, it
- 5:14Speaker 1: might be a little bit outside of what we're used to,
- 5:16Speaker 1: but I think he's he's earned it and there and
- 5:19Speaker 1: he's going for it that way this offseason. And yeah,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and I think other which is one more thing and
- 5:23Speaker 1: feed into the craft, was just that the draft the draft,
- 5:25Speaker 1: the draft, like it's that's what I've been saying for
- 5:28Speaker 1: all these shows off season, and I and that's where
- 5:30Speaker 1: I think that the team is going to get well.
- 5:33Speaker 1: That and that's that kind of dovetails into what the
- 5:36Speaker 1: owner said today. The owner basically was, I am a
- 5:40Speaker 1: fan just like you. I just happen to own the team,
- 5:42Speaker 1: you know, so, you know, expressing concern about not having
- 5:46Speaker 1: won a playoff game in three years. You know, he's
- 5:48Speaker 1: that bothers him um, saying that you know, you're in
- 5:52Speaker 1: order to have long term success, you have to you
- 5:56Speaker 1: have to do well in the draft. And he wasn't
- 5:58Speaker 1: happy with was happy with last year's draft, but not
- 6:01Speaker 1: the four previous, which I think everyone shares that. So
- 6:06Speaker 1: I think he expressed what fans are concerned with. He
- 6:08Speaker 1: just happens to be the owner of the New England Patriots,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and so, you know, fans take that as okay, you
- 6:15Speaker 1: must have expressed those concerns to your head coach, I
- 6:18Speaker 1: assume you know, which I'm sure he did. But at
- 6:20Speaker 1: the same time, like you said, Duce, he understands that
- 6:24Speaker 1: Bill has his own way of doing things, and it's
- 6:26Speaker 1: kind of worked out, you know, yep, yep, Yeah. I
- 6:29Speaker 1: think what what Robert was talking about with that, I
- 6:32Speaker 1: sort of step back, and he has his own way.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Was the coaching staff. I don't think he was necessarily
- 6:38Speaker 1: well about maybe he was team building or any of
- 6:41Speaker 1: that other stuff. Specifically the I think that was a
- 6:43Speaker 1: question about, you know, the structure of Yeah, that's probably
- 6:47Speaker 1: Joe Judge and Matt Patricia. And he said, you know, listen,
- 6:50Speaker 1: he has his way of doing things. And I think,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you know, I'm paraphrasing sometimes even I don't see the
- 6:56Speaker 1: line was the way you said it, but you know,
- 6:59Speaker 1: I'm more of results oriented. I think, yeah, it's a
- 7:02Speaker 1: results business. Well, so I took that as yeah, I
- 7:06Speaker 1: think it's strange too. I'll be watching right your one
- 7:10Speaker 1: on one of your shows this morning, Chris Curtis is
- 7:14Speaker 1: that his name, That's not one of my shows, MC curtis.
- 7:17Speaker 1: He's he said, you know, after Kraft had talked, he said,
- 7:21Speaker 1: Robert Kraft was an outraged at um, you know, not
- 7:27Speaker 1: having one a playoff game in three years. He's outraged.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I never heard him say outraged. And he said that
- 7:31Speaker 1: the Patriots got rid of Josh McDaniels. No, Josh McDaniels
- 7:36Speaker 1: left for a head coach. They didn't get rid of them,
- 7:39Speaker 1: you know, It's like these type of things, like and
- 7:41Speaker 1: then people hear that, it's like yeah, right, you know,
- 7:44Speaker 1: three months from now, and of course Bill got rid
- 7:46Speaker 1: of McDaniels. It just becomes accepted, like I'd accepted talking point.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I really think people take their cues from a producer
- 7:52Speaker 1: of a morning show that no one watches. I've been serious,
- 7:56Speaker 1: even you could make an argument, even if it was
- 7:58Speaker 1: like Greg Hill, would you main Wiggins said that Robert
- 8:01Speaker 1: Kraft was outraged. No disrespect to Chris Curtis, he's the
- 8:05Speaker 1: producer of the show. But but what made me think
- 8:07Speaker 1: of that, Paul is I said what I said, and
- 8:09Speaker 1: you said, put it in context, which is what you
- 8:12Speaker 1: do responsibly, you know, like, let's let's be accurate about
- 8:16Speaker 1: what these people say instead of like inserting your own word.
- 8:20Speaker 1: You know, Well, the outrage thing changes to outrage right,
- 8:25Speaker 1: like that's you know, and I heard him say it, like,
- 8:27Speaker 1: I don't think there was outrage in his voice, And
- 8:29Speaker 1: I don't think he's disappointed they haven't won a playoffs
- 8:32Speaker 1: like we all are. And I'm sure also that was
- 8:36Speaker 1: what he prefaced when when he said that, that was
- 8:38Speaker 1: the part that he prefaced by saying, I'm a fan
- 8:41Speaker 1: right first and foremost at heart, I'm a fan again paraphrasing,
- 8:45Speaker 1: but that's what he led into that, and I'm disappointed
- 8:47Speaker 1: that we haven't won a playoff game in three years, right,
- 8:50Speaker 1: like you said, just the way everybody else in Patriots
- 8:53Speaker 1: Nation is putting my fan hat on you. I think
- 8:55Speaker 1: you'd like to hear that. You like to hear the owner,
- 8:57Speaker 1: you know, kind of saying that that I'm a fan first.
- 8:58Speaker 1: But I think, as you said, Fred, there was also
- 9:01Speaker 1: some nice reminders in there that he is the owner
- 9:04Speaker 1: and that the buck does stop with him, and that
- 9:06Speaker 1: you know, it hasn't been the results that everybody wants there,
- 9:09Speaker 1: certainly with some good stuff that happened last year, but
- 9:12Speaker 1: you got to build on it. It's got to start
- 9:14Speaker 1: getting better. The one thing that he said that I
- 9:16Speaker 1: think we can debate honestly, is you know the only
- 9:20Speaker 1: way to have the consistent success over time is through
- 9:24Speaker 1: the draft. You know, you can debate that. You can
- 9:27Speaker 1: debate that. He said that before, like through the twenty years,
- 9:31Speaker 1: even with Pete Carroll, I remember them saying that and
- 9:35Speaker 1: a lot of people said, yeah, that's an excuse for
- 9:37Speaker 1: not spending money, you know. So see, I don't look
- 9:40Speaker 1: at it that way either, but some people, some people
- 9:43Speaker 1: the organization there too, because I do think I mean
- 9:46Speaker 1: the draft, I don't think it's it's splitting any atoms here.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I mean you have to you have a way to
- 9:52Speaker 1: get young talent onto your roster right every year, affordable,
- 9:55Speaker 1: no matter what, no matter what, every year you will
- 9:58Speaker 1: have draft picks. And I think you know, the draft
- 10:02Speaker 1: isn't is a very important part of your team building
- 10:05Speaker 1: every year. Is it the only way to do it? No,
- 10:07Speaker 1: it's not, but it's probably the best way to do
- 10:11Speaker 1: it on a consistent basis. It's probably the you know
- 10:17Speaker 1: you can you can throw teams that have have done
- 10:20Speaker 1: it different ways like the Rams, And you're right. You
- 10:23Speaker 1: know what else, The Rams have done really well in
- 10:25Speaker 1: the last five years draft, just not at the top
- 10:28Speaker 1: because they haven't had any first round picks, but if
- 10:30Speaker 1: they have a litany of mid round guys, not the
- 10:33Speaker 1: least of which is Cooper cop yep. Right. But but
- 10:36Speaker 1: what really got the Rams over the top Matthew Matthew
- 10:40Speaker 1: Stafford getting that quarterback, getting that quarterback, and if you
- 10:44Speaker 1: want to sustain success in the NFL, get yourself a
- 10:47Speaker 1: good quarterback. But that's the key. But I think people
- 10:50Speaker 1: that would argue the other side of that would say, yeah,
- 10:53Speaker 1: they got the quarterback. They didn't draft anybody, they got
- 10:56Speaker 1: the quarterback, and that's the way that they got success.
- 10:59Speaker 1: And they've been successful for five years. So it's not
- 11:01Speaker 1: like this is they loaded up one year and they
- 11:04Speaker 1: won it all. They went to the super Bowl in
- 11:06Speaker 1: twenty eighteen without Stafford. Yeah, you know, doing the same
- 11:11Speaker 1: thing like with you know, the keep to Leeds and
- 11:13Speaker 1: the you know, then they recycle that over to Jalen
- 11:17Speaker 1: Ramsey and all the other trades that they've made over
- 11:20Speaker 1: the years. So there are different ways to do it.
- 11:22Speaker 1: But but I would agree with Robert that if you
- 11:24Speaker 1: want to consistently be able to turn your roster over
- 11:28Speaker 1: and get you have to have some success in the draft. Yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I mean, I think the RAMS approach stands out a
- 11:33Speaker 1: little bit. But I think, as you laid out, Paul,
- 11:35Speaker 1: is it really that much different because they have a
- 11:38Speaker 1: core of guys that they drafted, and they went to
- 11:40Speaker 1: free agency in trades and and maybe they spent a
- 11:42Speaker 1: little bit more draft capital to get talented players, to
- 11:46Speaker 1: spend first round pick used the draft picks on established talent,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but which is fine, but not a big core of
- 11:51Speaker 1: drafted guys and filling holes with free agents. And I
- 11:55Speaker 1: mean I think that's guys though as more guys they acquired,
- 11:59Speaker 1: I mean there's no action. Aaron Donald Cooper cut big
- 12:01Speaker 1: part of the team. But I agree with your your
- 12:04Speaker 1: your premise. I'm not gonna get hung up on semantics.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I agree with your your premise. Like you can't just
- 12:09Speaker 1: do one thing, is my point. So to just say,
- 12:11Speaker 1: like the only way you could do is through the draft,
- 12:13Speaker 1: to me is wrong. Just like if you characterize the
- 12:16Speaker 1: RAM success is just doing it by acquiring high priced players,
- 12:20Speaker 1: that's also wrong. What I'm saying is, whether it's the
- 12:24Speaker 1: draft or free agency, if you don't have a good quarterback,
- 12:28Speaker 1: neither work. Sure, and they gotta have the quarterback. Look
- 12:32Speaker 1: at all the teams with sustained success, and we can
- 12:34Speaker 1: define that any way you want, you know, five years,
- 12:37Speaker 1: ten years, whatever, every one of those teams had a quarterback.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Indianapolis with Manning right, Kansas City now with Mahomes, Pittsburgh
- 12:45Speaker 1: with Roethlis Green Bay with Rogers. Absolutely, all these teams
- 12:48Speaker 1: win every year, their playoff contenders every year. Yeah, I agree,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and I think the quarterback is at the top and
- 12:55Speaker 1: alan by itself. But I think what you're seeing with
- 12:58Speaker 1: the Patriots over the last few years is kind of
- 13:00Speaker 1: that most let's say most terrible, the worst place to be,
- 13:03Speaker 1: which is that you lose your core. I think that's
- 13:06Speaker 1: the that's the fatal flaw for teams in the NFL
- 13:09Speaker 1: is if you don't draft well and you don't have
- 13:11Speaker 1: at least some kind of core of guys that you're
- 13:14Speaker 1: paying on rookie salaries that are contributing and being players.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I think when you get into that mode, you can't
- 13:19Speaker 1: fix a whole team in free agency. It's just financially impossible.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I mean, football has to be a bottom line of
- 13:25Speaker 1: guys that you've drafted that are successful. And I think
- 13:27Speaker 1: that is as we've talked about, the biggest reason why.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I mean they've kind of talk about games. Games in
- 13:32Speaker 1: the NFL normally come down to like five or six
- 13:35Speaker 1: plays a game, you know, and a guy can blow
- 13:39Speaker 1: up a play who isn't the quarterback or who isn't
- 13:42Speaker 1: your star receiver by missing a block or doing something stupid,
- 13:46Speaker 1: you know, bad penalty, you know, because there's twenty two
- 13:49Speaker 1: guys out on the field at any one time, you know.
- 13:52Speaker 1: So that's what makes football so great, you know. Yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 1: I mean, and how many times are the Patriots were
- 13:58Speaker 1: the difference in the Super Bowls that they won or
- 14:00Speaker 1: lost just you know, a single big play in a
- 14:02Speaker 1: big moment. You know, a play by Dante hie Tower,
- 14:05Speaker 1: you know that was made of a fourth down stop
- 14:07Speaker 1: against the Eagles that didn't happen. You know, those those moments.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I mean, you could probably gather up ten moments that
- 14:12Speaker 1: were the difference in all the Patriots Super Bowl titles,
- 14:15Speaker 1: just based on who made a play in the biggest moments. Yeah. Yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 1: So speaking of plays of the biggest moments, Malcolm Butler's back.
- 14:23Speaker 1: So we had a little shout out on Patriots social
- 14:26Speaker 1: I saw with he's looking good. Now. The question is,
- 14:31Speaker 1: you know, health wise and mental wise, how is he? Yeah,
- 14:34Speaker 1: you know, I think that's a big question of And
- 14:36Speaker 1: I mean I wouldn't expect him to open up about
- 14:40Speaker 1: what happened, perhaps, but I'm not expecting he will tell
- 14:43Speaker 1: us what happened. But I'm curious what he's got. I mean,
- 14:46Speaker 1: going back and looking at twenty twenty, I think he
- 14:48Speaker 1: still had some football in the tank. But I think
- 14:51Speaker 1: just given what we've talked about plenty with man press
- 14:54Speaker 1: corners and abilities to get those guys, it's so hard.
- 14:57Speaker 1: And he might be thirty two and and a year
- 15:00Speaker 1: off of football, but you're not going to get a
- 15:03Speaker 1: guy with that skill set. Can he still do it?
- 15:06Speaker 1: I think I think he probably can just bite. Well,
- 15:09Speaker 1: what is it? Play play at at at a solid
- 15:13Speaker 1: I think he's still starting caliber cornerback in the NFL,
- 15:16Speaker 1: And I agree with Mike. I don't see any reason
- 15:18Speaker 1: to you know, based on the last sample that we saw,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I thought he was really solid in Tennessee. I know
- 15:24Speaker 1: every time someone leaves New England they fall apart. I
- 15:27Speaker 1: thought he was really solid in Tennessee. Um. My only concern,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and it's a major one, I'll admit, is what Fred said,
- 15:34Speaker 1: like you know, where his head's at, Like, I you know,
- 15:37Speaker 1: forgive me for being concerned when guys just up and
- 15:40Speaker 1: decide to step away from the game. Yeah, you know,
- 15:44Speaker 1: whether it was a personal issue off the field, like
- 15:46Speaker 1: he very much wanted to continue playing but felt he couldn't.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I have no idea why he stepped away. I don't
- 15:52Speaker 1: know the story. If that's out there, I missed it.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I have not, But I worry about guys like that.
- 15:58Speaker 1: And then what happens when he gets to trade in
- 16:00Speaker 1: camp this year? And let's just say, for argument's sake,
- 16:04Speaker 1: you know how I always love to paint these sort
- 16:06Speaker 1: of like doomsday scenarios. Well, let's let's okay, so hey,
- 16:12Speaker 1: you know what OTAs Hey, Malcolm looks great, hasn't lost
- 16:15Speaker 1: a step, hasn't missed a beat, knows the system, very
- 16:18Speaker 1: comfortable here, knows how Belichick wants things done. He looks great.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Let's pencil him in at left corner. And then all
- 16:24Speaker 1: of a sudden you get to August fifteenth and Malcolm
- 16:27Speaker 1: Butler decides, my heart's not in it. Yeah, it's possible.
- 16:31Speaker 1: That's a concern because they don't have a lot, you know,
- 16:33Speaker 1: they might be now relying on him, And everybody just
- 16:37Speaker 1: looks at the contract, which is more than affordable. You know,
- 16:41Speaker 1: it's like nine million, two year, nine million total something
- 16:43Speaker 1: like that, with some incentives and whatnot, but a very
- 16:47Speaker 1: affordable contract for a starting caliber corner. Until he doesn't
- 16:50Speaker 1: play all of a sudden, you're you're you're without a
- 16:53Speaker 1: starting corner. Yeah, that's that's the and that's why, Like
- 16:56Speaker 1: whether or not he starts this year, I still think
- 16:58Speaker 1: you need to draft a corner back. Yeah, you know,
- 17:01Speaker 1: I would say that that's high on my list. Still,
- 17:03Speaker 1: absolutely they need youth at that position because the youth
- 17:06Speaker 1: that they've gotten in recent drafts hasn't panned out. Well,
- 17:09Speaker 1: it's just the numbers game. And you know, I know
- 17:12Speaker 1: Jabil Peppers visited yesterday, but I mean I think he's
- 17:16Speaker 1: a player that fits. But why and he's more of
- 17:19Speaker 1: a safety too, Yeah, I wonder if they want him
- 17:23Speaker 1: as a returner. Like I just saw that the stuff
- 17:26Speaker 1: that they would kick in the tires on him, and
- 17:28Speaker 1: he was here and I haven't heard anything since, Like
- 17:30Speaker 1: he hasn't gone anywhere else, So I think there's got
- 17:32Speaker 1: to be interest there. I was saying deduced, like why
- 17:35Speaker 1: don't they like my guy Kyle Dugger as a return
- 17:37Speaker 1: I was gonna say, we got the We're gonna have
- 17:39Speaker 1: like the biggest stable of safeties in the league. Oh yeah,
- 17:42Speaker 1: I mean a lot of decent ones. I mean not
- 17:44Speaker 1: like just guys And it's almost like you didn't know. Well,
- 17:48Speaker 1: it's almost like sometimes you wonder if they're just finding
- 17:51Speaker 1: guys that they like and and sometimes you you think
- 17:54Speaker 1: it doesn't appear like they have a plan that they're
- 17:57Speaker 1: building towards. They're just kind of he fits, he fits
- 18:00Speaker 1: whole crap. We've got seventeen strong safety. You know what
- 18:02Speaker 1: generally happens when whenever we talk like this is you know,
- 18:06Speaker 1: what are they gonna do with all those safeties? Two
- 18:08Speaker 1: of them will get hurt, right, and everybody will be
- 18:10Speaker 1: like Bills A, yeah, we're usually talking about running backs
- 18:12Speaker 1: in that conversation. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so we'll see. I
- 18:17Speaker 1: don't know, but Josh Bledsoe you mentioned you know another guy,
- 18:20Speaker 1: and that's just what you know. And I'm all for
- 18:23Speaker 1: if there's a plan, if there's some kind of shift
- 18:25Speaker 1: on defense, that hey, maybe we can try to force
- 18:28Speaker 1: the Bills to punt somehow, like this is the key,
- 18:31Speaker 1: you know. So I do wonder if you know, if
- 18:33Speaker 1: they were to bring him in, how much it relates
- 18:35Speaker 1: to the linebacker position, and you know, how how much
- 18:38Speaker 1: they're staying and you know, I wonder if there's a
- 18:40Speaker 1: world where there's there's Jawan Bentley who's a big traditional
- 18:44Speaker 1: middle linebacker. And then there's safeties, and I mean, you know,
- 18:47Speaker 1: and Pepper's he did play, you know, linebacker in college.
- 18:50Speaker 1: He's played all over the place. He's a person guy.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So you get it on like on that side of it,
- 18:55Speaker 1: like the player, you get it too. But as when
- 18:57Speaker 1: you throw him into the depth chart and you throw
- 18:58Speaker 1: him into the defense and you say, I don't have
- 19:01Speaker 1: a lot of corners right now, though I mean we
- 19:02Speaker 1: got we'd have five free safe, five strong safeties. But
- 19:06Speaker 1: um so I just that's the leeway that I give
- 19:09Speaker 1: them though, is is are they are they shifting the
- 19:11Speaker 1: defense little? But not that they've been picking up strong
- 19:13Speaker 1: safeties like it's going out of business for twelve years now.
- 19:16Speaker 1: But you know, going back to um, you know, I
- 19:18Speaker 1: think Chung was kind of the original draft pick that
- 19:20Speaker 1: they kind of put into that role. But um who's
- 19:22Speaker 1: the guy. I'm Bucky Tank Williams, thank you, you get yeah, yeah,
- 19:28Speaker 1: you know, but that was with the start of all right,
- 19:30Speaker 1: these older safeties, even John Lynch maybe you know, who
- 19:33Speaker 1: can't maybe run like they used to, but they have
- 19:36Speaker 1: some toughness and they have some ability in the bed
- 19:38Speaker 1: like those guys and Bill. Bill has always looked for
- 19:40Speaker 1: those guys, and you do wonder if maybe that's what
- 19:42Speaker 1: he's I think a guy like Peppers was someone that
- 19:45Speaker 1: Bill probably said coming out of the draft, Oh, I
- 19:49Speaker 1: have a lot of different things I could do with
- 19:50Speaker 1: that player, you know, And he's been put yeah, he's
- 19:55Speaker 1: been Okay, it's coming off an al though, right, yes,
- 19:58Speaker 1: yeaheah and a high uncle Spring. I think they were
- 20:00Speaker 1: poor stufford at at the same time. Um, so I
- 20:03Speaker 1: don't know what. We'll see what happens with him, but
- 20:06Speaker 1: I mean I still think they're more moves. I'm sure
- 20:08Speaker 1: it'll be a great deal for the Patriots. Um that's
- 20:12Speaker 1: what I learned by by going on Twitter all time.
- 20:14Speaker 1: So there's all that, and then there's free agents still
- 20:17Speaker 1: out there, um, some of who you know. Obviously we're
- 20:20Speaker 1: not in the market for quarterback. But there was a
- 20:23Speaker 1: name that you're probably gonna laugh and it's like, oh, geez, really,
- 20:29Speaker 1: would you take Sequon Barkley if the money was right? No, No,
- 20:33Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I mean, I'm not laughing at you, but
- 20:36Speaker 1: I'm here now, are you saying generally or right here
- 20:39Speaker 1: now here? Now? Yeah? Nah? No, no, I mean, doesn't
- 20:44Speaker 1: he do everything that you want, you know, in terms
- 20:47Speaker 1: of catching and running. Yeah, but I feel like he's
- 20:51Speaker 1: redundant a little bit like, well, yeah, but now he's redundant.
- 20:55Speaker 1: But now you you know, you keep James White as
- 20:58Speaker 1: a backup, you know, you don't have to play him
- 21:00Speaker 1: as you know, like you can do anything you want.
- 21:03Speaker 1: You know, now he's got this injury history, but if
- 21:06Speaker 1: he's healthy, you can do literally anything you want on
- 21:09Speaker 1: first second down, anything you want. Why can't you do that?
- 21:12Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not saying that there is good Stevenson
- 21:15Speaker 1: and Harris aren't as good as Barkley. I'm not suggesting
- 21:17Speaker 1: that they're the same play right, but I think both
- 21:20Speaker 1: they've shown that they can catch the ball, not as
- 21:23Speaker 1: well as him. I didn't say they were as good
- 21:24Speaker 1: a player. They can catch the ball as well as him,
- 21:27Speaker 1: they're not going to make the plays that he does.
- 21:28Speaker 1: But same with McCaffrey. No interest there either, okay really none,
- 21:32Speaker 1: zero because of the health. Yeah, but if you're getting
- 21:37Speaker 1: rid of those The thing that I like about Harris
- 21:39Speaker 1: and Stevenson is chances are one of those guys is
- 21:42Speaker 1: going to be up every week. Yeah. I don't know that.
- 21:45Speaker 1: If I assume you're getting rid of these guys to
- 21:47Speaker 1: get to make you get rid of one, maybe you
- 21:49Speaker 1: get rid of Harris. But the thing is, if Barkley
- 21:52Speaker 1: gets hurt you you're not done. You've got other guys
- 21:55Speaker 1: off the bench. I just think that the running back
- 21:58Speaker 1: is not a problem. Is this like Pepper? Like I
- 22:00Speaker 1: don't have any problem with Peppers, But I just I wonder. Yeah,
- 22:03Speaker 1: don't get me, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying
- 22:06Speaker 1: it's a problem. I'm saying it could be amazing. I
- 22:09Speaker 1: don't think so. I don't think he's an amazing player.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I don't think McCaffrey is an amazing player. They're amazing
- 22:14Speaker 1: fantasy players. They put up all kinds of fantasy value. Yeah,
- 22:17Speaker 1: well their teams don't win because I don't think you
- 22:20Speaker 1: can win doing that. But yeah, I mean I wouldn't.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I wouldn't do what Carol like, let's just say Eric
- 22:26Speaker 1: Henry and his prime is different, Okay, but I would
- 22:28Speaker 1: if we had McCaffrey, I wouldn't be putting seventy percent
- 22:31Speaker 1: of my offense through his hands like they did. I
- 22:33Speaker 1: think that's a mistake. Yeah, you know, I wouldn't do that.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I agree, And that's the point where I kind of
- 22:37Speaker 1: come out on which we've talked about before, of of
- 22:40Speaker 1: teams like the Titans and the Panthers who build their
- 22:42Speaker 1: identity kind of around their running back guy and then
- 22:45Speaker 1: he gets hurt and then I wouldn't do. That's what
- 22:47Speaker 1: I wouldn't want to. But you know, I think in
- 22:49Speaker 1: like you know, Paul, but like, oh McCaffrey on like
- 22:52Speaker 1: a cheap prove it deal, Like he's been injured for
- 22:54Speaker 1: like two years or something, so you don't really like
- 22:56Speaker 1: to be the third down back then I like them,
- 22:58Speaker 1: but to be like the every down rely on him,
- 23:00Speaker 1: make him the guy, pay him with a guy. And
- 23:02Speaker 1: I also think there's just so many other concerns right
- 23:05Speaker 1: now that like running backs one of the only positions
- 23:07Speaker 1: where I'm like, I don't really have to think about
- 23:09Speaker 1: it too much right now, Like I just I like
- 23:11Speaker 1: having that kind of like, oh, okay, we got some
- 23:13Speaker 1: young guys. You don't think you don't think a guy
- 23:15Speaker 1: like McCaffrey or Barkley makes mac Jones better, well, depending
- 23:19Speaker 1: if they're on the field, sure, I mean essentially, but
- 23:21Speaker 1: why why hasn't Barkley made Daniel Jones better because he's
- 23:25Speaker 1: hurt all the time. Okay, so why is he gonna
- 23:27Speaker 1: make Mac Jones better. I'm just obviously point everything I
- 23:30Speaker 1: say was the caveat that if he's healthful. But they're
- 23:32Speaker 1: all these caveats. You had a caveat if he's healthy.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Duce has a caveat on a on a cheap prove
- 23:37Speaker 1: it deal. Right, why are you first of all you
- 23:39Speaker 1: can't make a guarantee that he's healthy and they donna
- 23:43Speaker 1: sign a cheap prove it deal Like that's I mean,
- 23:47Speaker 1: I'm just throwing it. Yeah, if you if you want
- 23:49Speaker 1: one of those guys, they are the centerpiece of your offense.
- 23:52Speaker 1: That's what those guys are. And I'd say philosophically, I
- 23:55Speaker 1: feel like I like having four running backs who can
- 23:58Speaker 1: all kind of do different stuff and you know one
- 24:00Speaker 1: of them or two of them are going to be
- 24:01Speaker 1: hurt at all times, and not leaning too heavy on one.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And again, I go back to what other teams said
- 24:08Speaker 1: last year about the Patriots offense. It's easy to defend.
- 24:11Speaker 1: That's got to change. Well, I don't think it adds
- 24:14Speaker 1: Kuon Barkley makes you much more difficult to defend. Really
- 24:17Speaker 1: the balls going to say Quon Barkley not But it
- 24:19Speaker 1: doesn't have to. That's what I'm saying, Like, this is
- 24:23Speaker 1: what I don't understand. So now you're going to just
- 24:25Speaker 1: use him as a decoy. You know, you're, you're, you're,
- 24:28Speaker 1: you're stretching my words here. No. I just they're easy
- 24:31Speaker 1: to defend for because they don't have playmakers on the
- 24:33Speaker 1: on the perimeter. Okay, that's why they're easy to defend.
- 24:37Speaker 1: But they have a tight end. Is the basic you know,
- 24:41Speaker 1: a tight end and a physical slot receiver or the
- 24:44Speaker 1: two main targets in the passing game. In other words,
- 24:48Speaker 1: nothing that's going to strike fear into it. But I
- 24:50Speaker 1: think I think what Carolina did with McCaffrey was lazy.
- 24:53Speaker 1: You know. I think they just said give it to
- 24:55Speaker 1: Christian McCaffrey instead of distributing the ball and who well
- 25:00Speaker 1: that's the thing they never developed any No, no no, no,
- 25:02Speaker 1: the Patriots. I'm putting McCaffrey on the Patriots backfield. Who
- 25:05Speaker 1: are you distributing the ball to Kendrick all All your well,
- 25:08Speaker 1: you're easy to defend. No, no, unless you get a
- 25:12Speaker 1: weapon on the outside for mac Jones to develop with. Yeah,
- 25:16Speaker 1: you're easy to defend. Stacked the line of scrimmage, make
- 25:18Speaker 1: them run into a wall and make guys get open deep.
- 25:21Speaker 1: That's that's the philosophy, and you need personnel to do that.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I mean, Panthers had j Robbie Anderson, Robbie Anderson, who
- 25:31Speaker 1: evidently Patriots fans have been lusting after for the last
- 25:34Speaker 1: month and a half and they couldn't do it well.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Bill had. Bill did say something along the lines of
- 25:40Speaker 1: what we're hoping for in terms of, you know, the
- 25:43Speaker 1: free agent why you know, we signed a lot of
- 25:46Speaker 1: free agents last year. They're still here. And I forget
- 25:48Speaker 1: his exactly that's stuck out to me. But have you
- 25:51Speaker 1: have young guys? You signed young guys that are under contract,
- 25:54Speaker 1: and which to me was a double down on that
- 25:55Speaker 1: philosophy in year two free he said, I what did
- 25:58Speaker 1: he say, we hope they get bad or something like
- 26:01Speaker 1: that or I don't just know. I don't think the
- 26:03Speaker 1: implication was that, But I think he said was that
- 26:06Speaker 1: we have young guys who are under contract. And I
- 26:09Speaker 1: think that's that was in relation to a question asking
- 26:12Speaker 1: they spent so much money last year, why the change
- 26:14Speaker 1: this year? Right? And he said, we have young guys
- 26:16Speaker 1: under contract, and I think that, to me is a
- 26:20Speaker 1: double down on I'm expecting these guys to get better
- 26:23Speaker 1: big leap, which was which was a good conversation Paul
- 26:26Speaker 1: and I had yesterday, because I think this is something
- 26:28Speaker 1: that's um that's often been an interesting point to me generally,
- 26:32Speaker 1: not even this season. It's just that I don't think
- 26:34Speaker 1: and I'm not going to tell you that every single
- 26:36Speaker 1: one of the guys are going to be better next year.
- 26:39Speaker 1: But I think that fans generally dismiss any kind of
- 26:43Speaker 1: improvement from players already on the roster. What they saw
- 26:46Speaker 1: last year is what they're going to see next year
- 26:48Speaker 1: or worse. And I think that that's a philosophy that
- 26:50Speaker 1: football football teams don't necessarily agree. Now, Paul will say,
- 26:54Speaker 1: I agree with you. I agree with you, and I
- 26:56Speaker 1: agree some guys might get worse and maybe ultimately it'll
- 26:58Speaker 1: it'll be a wash. But I do think that there's
- 27:00Speaker 1: something there to give these guys more of a chance, right,
- 27:03Speaker 1: And I agree with Mike. I think there is a
- 27:06Speaker 1: reason to think that Jhonu Smith and Nelson Agilore, just
- 27:08Speaker 1: to pick two guys will be better. And I do
- 27:11Speaker 1: think that Mike is right. Most fans look at guys
- 27:14Speaker 1: and they say that's what they are boom, But they
- 27:18Speaker 1: also do it the other way, Like they don't look
- 27:21Speaker 1: at Kendrick Boyne they say, well he'll he'll get better too.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Maybe not, Maybe he goes the other way. If if
- 27:29Speaker 1: you don't do anything different with your offense, then you've
- 27:32Speaker 1: got a tape worth of Kendrick Boyne in the Patriots system.
- 27:35Speaker 1: So he's easier, easier to defend a year two. And
- 27:38Speaker 1: maybe Matthew Judon is more what he was in the
- 27:40Speaker 1: second half of the year in the first half of
- 27:41Speaker 1: the year this season. Right, Oh, I refuse to believe that. No,
- 27:44Speaker 1: and I'm not, but what I think the way that
- 27:50Speaker 1: Mike said that is absolutely one hundred percent correct. Fans
- 27:53Speaker 1: and media alike, when we look at it, we always
- 27:56Speaker 1: sort of look at, oh, you got this and this
- 27:59Speaker 1: from from born in Judeon. You know, oh, we'll get
- 28:03Speaker 1: that again, right, just like on the negative side, we
- 28:07Speaker 1: got this in this from Aglarean Smith, we'll get that again.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Neither one, like all four of those guys could be
- 28:12Speaker 1: wildly different than they were a last year. Yep, yep.
- 28:16Speaker 1: So but just you know, it's it's heating up, I know.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I mean, I hearing all the things from Bill and
- 28:24Speaker 1: Robert Gray, it was really worse the joint practices where
- 28:26Speaker 1: it's just you realize we're gonna be sitting there watching
- 28:28Speaker 1: some real football stoom? Which is which is that? I mean,
- 28:31Speaker 1: I think that's the cool part like the rest. Like
- 28:33Speaker 1: I mean, I know, we haven't heard from Bill in
- 28:35Speaker 1: in a long time since you know, since um, you know,
- 28:41Speaker 1: the day after the season when he referred to the
- 28:43Speaker 1: game the night before as last year. Um, we haven't
- 28:47Speaker 1: really heard from Bill at all. Yeah, So in that regard,
- 28:50Speaker 1: it was interesting to hear him saying it, But nothing
- 28:52Speaker 1: he said excited me in any way. I gotta be
- 28:55Speaker 1: honest with you, like, I think he has the same
- 28:58Speaker 1: reservations that we all do. Just one more point on
- 29:00Speaker 1: the second year thing too, is like I just I
- 29:02Speaker 1: think Mac is such a big part of this, like
- 29:04Speaker 1: a second year quarterback, you know, I think that that
- 29:07Speaker 1: I'd love to get his real insight of just what's
- 29:11Speaker 1: the operation, like you know, from when you first got
- 29:13Speaker 1: here in May last year with all these guys to
- 29:15Speaker 1: now I know it reports where it John who's sticking
- 29:18Speaker 1: around like you know, when you guys get together, now,
- 29:20Speaker 1: how much more productive is it because they're not all,
- 29:23Speaker 1: you know, waiting for the rookie quarterback to figure it out.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Like he's been here, he knows, you know. It allows
- 29:27Speaker 1: everybody to to you know, just improved together. And I
- 29:31Speaker 1: think that that, you know, overall, my hope is that
- 29:33Speaker 1: individually we might point to guys who were improved or
- 29:36Speaker 1: worse from what they were last year. But my hope
- 29:38Speaker 1: is that overall, the offense as constituted, regardless of what
- 29:41Speaker 1: they add in the draft, which I expect should be
- 29:43Speaker 1: something that gives them some kind of boost on offense,
- 29:46Speaker 1: that that it's gonna be a little bit better than
- 29:47Speaker 1: it was last year. I don't know if it's going
- 29:49Speaker 1: to be all of a sudden, Hey, we're just lighting
- 29:50Speaker 1: people up left and right. It's hard to make that
- 29:52Speaker 1: argument right now. But I just think based on what
- 29:54Speaker 1: everything we've heard about Mac, what Mac did when he
- 29:56Speaker 1: got here last year, I think he'll be better. I
- 29:59Speaker 1: think that I think Mac should you know, should be
- 30:02Speaker 1: better and not just as a player, and Bill intimated
- 30:05Speaker 1: as a leader as well, like he mentioned, Like you know,
- 30:08Speaker 1: I think we have a lot of leaders and I
- 30:09Speaker 1: think I think he mentioned you know, Mac, Yeah, I
- 30:12Speaker 1: just think it will become one of those young leaders
- 30:15Speaker 1: to take the torch from the mccordy's and the James Whites.
- 30:19Speaker 1: And interesting they interesting that he said that too, about
- 30:23Speaker 1: when they kind of brought up those guys and he
- 30:25Speaker 1: was went right to, well, they're not going to do
- 30:26Speaker 1: it forever. Like I just thought that was interesting. It
- 30:29Speaker 1: wasn't really he wasn't really pitching it as I mean,
- 30:31Speaker 1: I guess with Slater he was pitching as like an
- 30:33Speaker 1: all time player coming back, but you know, with with mccordy,
- 30:36Speaker 1: it was more, you know, it's great to have these
- 30:38Speaker 1: guys while we can, but other guys got to step up.
- 30:41Speaker 1: And I think that, you know, for everybody, that's like
- 30:43Speaker 1: the theme of yeah, you gotta find the next level
- 30:45Speaker 1: of guys. Who's the next mccordy, who's the next later,
- 30:48Speaker 1: Who's going to carry that torch? That's what you got
- 30:49Speaker 1: to find in these next year or two. Yeah, all right.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Eight five five pass five hundred is a sticket hut
- 30:54Speaker 1: line web radio at Patriots dot Com. Is the email
- 30:58Speaker 1: address Little News News. It sounds like the the overtime
- 31:03Speaker 1: rules have have passed. Sorry, I lost it on which
- 31:06Speaker 1: one on Twitter? Yeah? Which one they go? Because there
- 31:09Speaker 1: was another one that Burt Brewer was talking about today
- 31:11Speaker 1: that seemed a little different than the other one. So please,
- 31:14Speaker 1: just I'm warming up to Bill's idea. Just do a
- 31:16Speaker 1: fifteen minute. I think Bill's had it right for years,
- 31:19Speaker 1: as I've often do it. You know, I'm often locked
- 31:20Speaker 1: up with the greatest coach of all time. Yeah, so
- 31:23Speaker 1: it's the Eagles and Coats proposal has passed and it's permanent.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Both teams will be guaranteed a possession in overtime postseason only.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I think that's also a good rule that it's just
- 31:32Speaker 1: for the postseason. I don't think they needed to do
- 31:34Speaker 1: anything different in the regular season. So do you know
- 31:38Speaker 1: that the pariser? So if if a team scores a touchdown,
- 31:41Speaker 1: the next team gets a chance to score a touchdown,
- 31:43Speaker 1: and then they get a possession period, and then if
- 31:45Speaker 1: they both score a touchdown, then it's sudden death. I
- 31:48Speaker 1: guess and all love that. Oh, then it's sudden death. Yeah,
- 31:51Speaker 1: I don't love that. Both teams are guaranteed a possession,
- 31:53Speaker 1: but both teams score, it becomes sudden next. You wouldn't
- 31:57Speaker 1: get to touch it again, right, I don't like. I
- 32:01Speaker 1: actually think that opens the door for more inequity like
- 32:04Speaker 1: that in that you know, everybody says, oh, just stop him,
- 32:06Speaker 1: Well you didn't stop us. Yeah right, Mike Tomlin. As
- 32:10Speaker 1: much as I've gained respect for him, I love you
- 32:13Speaker 1: really have to come out and say, I'm not afraid
- 32:15Speaker 1: of sudden depth. You're not out there playing. I'm not
- 32:17Speaker 1: afraid of sudden depth. Yeah, okay, you missed a tough guy.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Put it away, your muscles away. I can tell by
- 32:23Speaker 1: those sunglasses he's not afraid of anyway. Yeah, I do,
- 32:26Speaker 1: like I have to admit I do, and and I've
- 32:28Speaker 1: come full circle on Mike Tomlin. I do find him entertaining.
- 32:31Speaker 1: I enjoy listening to him. But that was a little
- 32:34Speaker 1: much like, Okay, you know he has a lot of
- 32:36Speaker 1: those little uh like for you know, you know, we're
- 32:38Speaker 1: looking for volunteers, not hostages. Things like that. Yeah, he
- 32:40Speaker 1: has a lot of those over the years that kind
- 32:42Speaker 1: of make me chuckle. It's like at some point, guy, hey,
- 32:46Speaker 1: you're a football coach, but you know that kind of thing,
- 32:49Speaker 1: Like the first time Pittsburgh's in the playoffs and they
- 32:51Speaker 1: lose because of a sudden death situation, he's gonna get Yeah,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I don't think he will. No, I don't think he will.
- 32:58Speaker 1: I won't pull the Rocky, I'm all right, No, but
- 33:01Speaker 1: they'll make fun of you human, aren't you all right?
- 33:04Speaker 1: Eight five five past five hundred A sicket hotline web
- 33:07Speaker 1: RADIOI pagris dot COM's email address, Justin in Rhode Island,
- 33:10Speaker 1: writes in hypothetical question, if the Jags offered to trade
- 33:14Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence for mac Jones for an equal trade, would
- 33:17Speaker 1: you do it? Yep, yeah, yeah I would. Yeah, I
- 33:22Speaker 1: would too. Sorry, Yeah, I mean that said, I'm very,
- 33:25Speaker 1: very pleased that mac Jones is our quarterback, but I
- 33:29Speaker 1: recognize the talent of Trevor Lawrence. I'm sorry, come on, yeah,
- 33:32Speaker 1: I mean as much as I want to tell you, like, well, nope, Tom,
- 33:36Speaker 1: He's the next Tom Brady. Mac Jones next Tom Brady,
- 33:37Speaker 1: and I don't want anyone else other than him for
- 33:39Speaker 1: all eternity. Like I would really wonder what Bill thinks
- 33:46Speaker 1: of mac Jones, Like I would really like what he's
- 33:51Speaker 1: like just censored complete criticism, like compare contrast what he
- 33:57Speaker 1: really thinks, really thinks of Tom Brady and thought of
- 34:01Speaker 1: Brady at a similar stage in his career, you know, yeah,
- 34:05Speaker 1: And I would really like to compare and contrast that
- 34:08Speaker 1: and um, because I mean a lot has been made
- 34:10Speaker 1: over the years of Bill, you know, sort of through
- 34:14Speaker 1: through other outlets expressing the you know, the notion that
- 34:18Speaker 1: he feels like he could win with average quarterback. Yeah,
- 34:22Speaker 1: you know, and I think that quote that was in
- 34:25Speaker 1: the latest book was from Joe Judge. It was like
- 34:29Speaker 1: from a former maybe once, you know, like average quarterback
- 34:34Speaker 1: that consistently won, a top fifteen quarterback, anybody in the
- 34:37Speaker 1: top fifteen they could win with. And maybe once. I
- 34:39Speaker 1: don't think, oh yeah, there's outliers or Eddie, right, you know,
- 34:42Speaker 1: like Joe Flacco caught fire and was phenomenal for one postseason,
- 34:47Speaker 1: Brad Johnson and what's his name, those guys were caretakers.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Those guys just had special teams. Like Peyton Manning with
- 34:56Speaker 1: the with the Broncos defense. You know, he wasn't Peyton
- 34:58Speaker 1: Manning anymore. But Joe Flacco was as much the reason
- 35:01Speaker 1: the Ravens won in twenty and twelve is anything else
- 35:04Speaker 1: that was going on. I mean, he just played out
- 35:06Speaker 1: of his mind in the playoffs, Yeah, that's why he
- 35:09Speaker 1: went up to him afterwards. Right. Uh, that was that
- 35:12Speaker 1: he went to a smaller school. That's why. Well I did,
- 35:15Speaker 1: and I told him the story that was was my
- 35:16Speaker 1: son's first ever football game was Delaware Northeastern Wow. And
- 35:19Speaker 1: Joe Flacco was the quarterback throwing to Ben Patrick. Remember
- 35:22Speaker 1: Ben Patrick tight end for the Cards. God, yeah, northeaston
- 35:26Speaker 1: beat lem. Uh. Well, he's like, yeah, all right, I
- 35:29Speaker 1: gotta go. Then they dropped the program. Yet some reason,
- 35:32Speaker 1: he was looking at his watch. It's like, yeah, is
- 35:35Speaker 1: this He seems like a good guy. He was when
- 35:38Speaker 1: he passed us to the quarter potty in Philadelphia the
- 35:42Speaker 1: Super Bowl, And I told him, well, he even remember
- 35:45Speaker 1: when he when he won the MVP and they had
- 35:47Speaker 1: like the the the young he goes, I get a car.
- 35:50Speaker 1: He's a good dude. It's just a goof. You know.
- 35:52Speaker 1: They couldn't stop him in that twelve game though, Man,
- 35:55Speaker 1: he just they were on fire that second half. Oh
- 35:58Speaker 1: he I think he threw like twelve touch sounds and
- 36:00Speaker 1: no picks in that postseason something like that, right up
- 36:02Speaker 1: the seam, over and over and over again. Tony writes
- 36:06Speaker 1: in I'm beginning to wonder whether the Patriots are now
- 36:08Speaker 1: back to the franchise of my youth. Nineteen seventies good
- 36:12Speaker 1: for a couple of years on the Chuck Fairbanks eighties,
- 36:14Speaker 1: good for a year or two, nineties good for three
- 36:16Speaker 1: to four years. Last twenty years Heaven on Earth spectacular.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Are we back to the times where we hope there
- 36:22Speaker 1: is a year or two in the next ten where
- 36:25Speaker 1: we can realistically win one even two playoff games in
- 36:28Speaker 1: dream of competing for conference championship. I'm sorry to say it,
- 36:32Speaker 1: but alas yes, oh no, we shuck again. Well, that's
- 36:38Speaker 1: most most teams. Most teams have that, you know, it's
- 36:41Speaker 1: it's it's not that uncommon to be in that place.
- 36:45Speaker 1: You know that. That's what it is. I think the outliers.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Yet twenty years of awesomeness that that doesn't happen. James Pettigrew,
- 36:52Speaker 1: the most interesting Patriots fan in the world, writes in
- 36:54Speaker 1: at least fifteen to twenty minutes on Will Smith. I
- 36:57Speaker 1: rarely ask for anything. Maybe late there, maybe we'll get
- 37:01Speaker 1: it there show. I mean it's I don't know why,
- 37:03Speaker 1: but all the sports shows did talk about that yesterday,
- 37:07Speaker 1: and it's because like maybe Will Smith played a lot
- 37:09Speaker 1: and was in some sports movies. Oh it's not. Why
- 37:13Speaker 1: the only thing anybody's talking not talking about Ukraine. I mean,
- 37:16Speaker 1: you know, because that's not the only thing anybody's talking about.
- 37:19Speaker 1: It might be the most important thing that's going on
- 37:20Speaker 1: in the world right now. But yeah, you don't hear
- 37:23Speaker 1: a lot of people talking about it upstairs? Do you?
- 37:25Speaker 1: A little later? Heard a lot of Will Smith talk upstairs?
- 37:29Speaker 1: Five pats, five hundred. Let's get over to the phones,
- 37:32Speaker 1: Will Williams and philam, what's up, William? What's going on?
- 37:35Speaker 1: So that's how y'all doing good? Hey, hey, Mike, how
- 37:39Speaker 1: are you doing good? Just maybe three questions and that's it. Uh, Bred,
- 37:45Speaker 1: I wouldn't be opposed to what you said about Barkley,
- 37:49Speaker 1: Christian mccatt. The problem is, though, Man, they dogged them
- 37:52Speaker 1: so badly and you know everything ran through them. You know,
- 37:56Speaker 1: they didn't have it. Yeah, I wouldn't do that. Yeah,
- 37:58Speaker 1: you know, and I understand it all. Thing. I mean,
- 38:01Speaker 1: I agree with that. I mean, I wouldn't be opposed
- 38:04Speaker 1: to the Barkley situation. But it's just he's just entry
- 38:07Speaker 1: from at this point, you know what I mean. So, um,
- 38:10Speaker 1: but I wouldn't be opposed to a little bit. I
- 38:12Speaker 1: don't know how that would work out, though, but I
- 38:14Speaker 1: would I wouldn't give him, No, they wouldn't. I wouldn't
- 38:16Speaker 1: trade up nothing big for him, all right, Like, if
- 38:18Speaker 1: you're just gonna tell me you're gonna drop se Quon
- 38:20Speaker 1: Barkley into onto my team, right into my lap, I
- 38:23Speaker 1: don't have to give up anything for him or whatever. Absolutely,
- 38:25Speaker 1: I'm not gonna tell you he's not better than Damien Harris.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Of course he is. It's not a football thing. I
- 38:31Speaker 1: just I don't think it's very realistic. Yeah, and the
- 38:34Speaker 1: Jabrill Peppers, I hope they's t I've been a fan
- 38:37Speaker 1: of assistants at Michigan. He can do He's a jack
- 38:39Speaker 1: of all trades. He can do anything just about. Put
- 38:42Speaker 1: him in any position, receiver, kick returner, you know, strong, safety,
- 38:46Speaker 1: free safety, linebackers. So if you watch him, William, if
- 38:50Speaker 1: you watched him a lot as a pro, Yeah, why
- 38:54Speaker 1: is this gonna be his third team in six seasons?
- 38:58Speaker 1: Would be he del trade help? Is how he went? No,
- 39:02Speaker 1: I'm just saying this is going to be his third
- 39:03Speaker 1: team in six years? Yeah? Because the two works well.
- 39:07Speaker 1: If the Patriots sign him or wherever he goes. Wherever
- 39:09Speaker 1: he goes, it's going to be his third team in
- 39:11Speaker 1: six years. Yeah. Right. I think he's a pretty good
- 39:13Speaker 1: player too. I have no problem if the Patriots were
- 39:16Speaker 1: looking into signing him, even though I think they have
- 39:19Speaker 1: a glot of safeties. I'm all four bringing good players.
- 39:21Speaker 1: I wonder if he's couldn't a lot to the rush.
- 39:23Speaker 1: The Brandon Cooks thing, first round draft pick who you
- 39:26Speaker 1: know has that behind him, but teams don't want to
- 39:30Speaker 1: pay the first round ready draft. You know, it's a
- 39:32Speaker 1: great one. Brandon Cooks, right, been on a million teams,
- 39:35Speaker 1: and I think he's a good that's a great Yeah, tough,
- 39:37Speaker 1: great com He's ended two of the last three years
- 39:39Speaker 1: on I R two. So yeah, first round. It might
- 39:42Speaker 1: be a little too small to play that style that
- 39:45Speaker 1: we're talking about. Yeah, and my last question is okay,
- 39:51Speaker 1: so y'all we're talking about the Nelson. Also, let me
- 39:54Speaker 1: let me be uh, let me get my keeping my
- 39:58Speaker 1: expectations down. You know, you all and Mike talking about
- 40:01Speaker 1: Nelson Aguil and John Knew and they second year and whatnot.
- 40:05Speaker 1: So I know I've been rubbing that off for a
- 40:07Speaker 1: little bit, but I mean it makes sense. So let's
- 40:10Speaker 1: just see what these boys can do in their second year.
- 40:12Speaker 1: But I mean, I ain't expecting too much, like I said,
- 40:15Speaker 1: Nelson Nagel, Like I told you, Mike, I'm not expecting.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I don't know what this thing. I don't know what.
- 40:19Speaker 1: That's what I said to you. I don't know what
- 40:20Speaker 1: you're expecting from him, John Knew. I'll give him a
- 40:23Speaker 1: pass because I you know, he kind of missed training
- 40:26Speaker 1: camp and stuff, so I kind of give him a pass.
- 40:27Speaker 1: So but Nelson Nagel, if he doesn't evolved, then I mean,
- 40:32Speaker 1: just just prepare yourself and I hopefully the Patriots will
- 40:35Speaker 1: put something in order, like this is why the draft
- 40:37Speaker 1: is here. You know what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah. Other
- 40:40Speaker 1: than that, you know, I'm all for it, man, you
- 40:42Speaker 1: know what I mean, I'm all for It's thanks well.
- 40:45Speaker 1: I mean, I think there's something to be said with
- 40:46Speaker 1: with Aglaura being that, you know, role of downfield guy
- 40:50Speaker 1: and you know, a rookie quarterback like I can at
- 40:52Speaker 1: least have some kind of argument with myself saying, you know,
- 40:55Speaker 1: there's a real Max should be able to get the
- 40:56Speaker 1: ball downfield, a little more understanding protection better, you know, so,
- 41:00Speaker 1: and there were there were glimmers of here and there.
- 41:02Speaker 1: And I have seen a lot of stories from the
- 41:04Speaker 1: analytics about his routes and how he wasn't really targeted
- 41:08Speaker 1: to the Yeah, I mean there are if you want
- 41:10Speaker 1: to look for it, you gids. What worries me most
- 41:11Speaker 1: about him, it's upstairs. Didn't he get in the doghouse
- 41:14Speaker 1: right away? Here? There was something weird during camp. I
- 41:17Speaker 1: remember where we weren't sure if him and Bill had
- 41:19Speaker 1: words on the field or something, and then he and
- 41:21Speaker 1: then he didn't play the rest of practice. I mean,
- 41:23Speaker 1: that's right. And I hadn't even thought of that until
- 41:26Speaker 1: he just said it. There was some kind of quirkiness. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:30Speaker 1: but I would say, I mean just personal opinion that
- 41:32Speaker 1: you know, I got a good vibe from him. It
- 41:34Speaker 1: seemed like he was, you know, invested and had his
- 41:36Speaker 1: head on straight or whatever. That should you should put
- 41:38Speaker 1: that on Twitter, like one of the rush The one
- 41:44Speaker 1: thing that sticks out with me, you know, and I
- 41:46Speaker 1: always you know me, I get my my antenna go up.
- 41:50Speaker 1: When you start to see a lot of the same
- 41:53Speaker 1: kinds of phraseology being used by different writers and whatnot,
- 41:56Speaker 1: A lot of attention suddenly being played paid to him
- 42:01Speaker 1: being here for the off season program and he wasn't
- 42:04Speaker 1: here Smith, Jono Smith, I should say, yes, Jona Smith,
- 42:08Speaker 1: he wasn't here last year and okay, so like to me,
- 42:13Speaker 1: it's kind of like the last straw. Yeah, like, let's
- 42:15Speaker 1: see if we can squeeze something out of this guy.
- 42:17Speaker 1: I think you know what I always think for whenever
- 42:20Speaker 1: they're talking about something like that all the time, I
- 42:22Speaker 1: go back to the Chad Jackson rule. Really smart, really smart,
- 42:26Speaker 1: Like we got him up on the board and gave
- 42:28Speaker 1: up like question in the back. I don't remember asking
- 42:33Speaker 1: you if I thought if you thought Chad Jackson was
- 42:36Speaker 1: smart enough to pick up the city, why are you
- 42:38Speaker 1: telling me unsolicited all these times about how smart Chad
- 42:42Speaker 1: Jackson is? My question here is why are we hearing
- 42:46Speaker 1: all these things about what Jono Smith's going to be
- 42:48Speaker 1: doing in the off season as the year two guy
- 42:51Speaker 1: and we have a lot of young guys under contract
- 42:53Speaker 1: and he's going to be here for the off season problem.
- 42:55Speaker 1: So that's what we're saying now, was the reason why
- 42:58Speaker 1: he didn't pan out last year? He was not here?
- 43:01Speaker 1: Got it? I think he's uh, I think he's real,
- 43:03Speaker 1: But that doesn't explain the end of the season. I
- 43:05Speaker 1: can see the beginning of the season, but by the
- 43:08Speaker 1: end of the season, come on, Yeah, I just don't
- 43:11Speaker 1: think he looks like a very fluid natural football player. Right.
- 43:14Speaker 1: He's an athlete. He's a great athlete. We all get
- 43:18Speaker 1: excited because that one play in preseason where it's like
- 43:21Speaker 1: he could do things. Oh, I think he can't. Yeah,
- 43:23Speaker 1: I think he is athletically gifted. But now after watching
- 43:26Speaker 1: him last year, I'm seeing why Tennessee only had him
- 43:29Speaker 1: catch forty five balls. Yeah. I think he's really interesting,
- 43:33Speaker 1: just because I think what we saw from him in
- 43:35Speaker 1: camp and during the season in little bits were like
- 43:38Speaker 1: what he does well, and it seemed like they knew
- 43:39Speaker 1: what he did well, and they were, you know, trying
- 43:41Speaker 1: to get him a little screen passes, little underneath, let
- 43:43Speaker 1: him run. It never looked comfortable, and you know, I
- 43:47Speaker 1: just I wonder how much of it is nuance of
- 43:50Speaker 1: you know, like like the quarterbacks always catch the ball
- 43:54Speaker 1: in space and it like it takes him a second
- 43:56Speaker 1: to Yeah, in that, I thought he always looked like
- 44:01Speaker 1: he was like his his steps would be choppy, like
- 44:05Speaker 1: he was thinking, Okay, I need to make sure I
- 44:07Speaker 1: get ready to cut at seven yards, right. Yeah, that
- 44:12Speaker 1: was exactly like I think when you got the ball.
- 44:14Speaker 1: And I think that's what the adjustment that that Bill
- 44:17Speaker 1: and Josh made last year was, Let's stop making this
- 44:20Speaker 1: guy think. Let's just put the ball in his hands.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Let's hand it to him eight or ten times. Let's
- 44:24Speaker 1: throw a couple of tight end screens to him. Let's
- 44:27Speaker 1: have him drag across the field on the plays that
- 44:29Speaker 1: Mike is talking about. Nothing that he has to think
- 44:31Speaker 1: too much. Just catch the ball and run with it.
- 44:33Speaker 1: I think it's and that's where I was exactly where
- 44:35Speaker 1: I was heading Paul. It was it just seemed like
- 44:38Speaker 1: he couldn't quite get in sync with the offense. And
- 44:40Speaker 1: you know, you see so many times with like Brady
- 44:42Speaker 1: where he'd be walking with a receiver and he'd you know,
- 44:44Speaker 1: like slowly go and then right here at this is
- 44:46Speaker 1: where you put your right foot and then you look
- 44:48Speaker 1: in the balls like everything was is down to the
- 44:50Speaker 1: like the millimeter in terms of where they want to
- 44:53Speaker 1: put the ball, where they want the routes to go
- 44:54Speaker 1: when they break, and it just didn't seem like he
- 44:57Speaker 1: could get in sync with that. So I have some
- 44:59Speaker 1: hope that like maybe he gets a little bit more
- 45:01Speaker 1: in sync with that. But I also wonder you played
- 45:04Speaker 1: do his strings last year? Like I couldn't sit here
- 45:06Speaker 1: and tell you they didn't do what he did in Tennessee.
- 45:08Speaker 1: They did, Like I mean that they derided to get
- 45:09Speaker 1: him the ball in space and let him off the sidelines.
- 45:11Speaker 1: That's what he did. You know, how do they evolved?
- 45:13Speaker 1: Does you know does the Jacob Johnson thing the fullback?
- 45:16Speaker 1: Do they get him out of the backfield more? Do
- 45:18Speaker 1: they use him that way? So? How do they change?
- 45:20Speaker 1: And and and who's gonna change? Who's gonna put the
- 45:23Speaker 1: thought into this of how do we elevate the office?
- 45:25Speaker 1: And I think that speaks to what people are concerned
- 45:27Speaker 1: about with our mampetrician Joe Judge. Good football coaches absolutely,
- 45:31Speaker 1: are they innovative offensive minds that can you know, adjust
- 45:36Speaker 1: and throw curveballs at other teams? You have no, you
- 45:39Speaker 1: have no evidence of that. So that that's that's a
- 45:41Speaker 1: big question. And you know just something I think generally
- 45:43Speaker 1: team fans want to be excited about their offense. It's
- 45:46Speaker 1: all about offense now, and you know, the wide zone
- 45:49Speaker 1: and Sean McVay and all the things that they do,
- 45:51Speaker 1: and you know, you don't want to go in thinking
- 45:53Speaker 1: what we're just gonna have a conventional kind offense. You
- 45:55Speaker 1: want to And I like that about Josh. You felt
- 45:57Speaker 1: like Josh thought outside the box and had a lot
- 45:59Speaker 1: of different stuff. So how are they gonna use guys different,
- 46:02Speaker 1: what's gonna look different, and how they're trying to unpack
- 46:04Speaker 1: their offense. I think those are the things for OTAs.
- 46:07Speaker 1: That's that'll be fascinating. Let's go to Rashod and Baltimore.
- 46:10Speaker 1: What's up with a shod? Hey? What's up? What's up?
- 46:13Speaker 1: What's up? Let me see. I guess I got, I got,
- 46:17Speaker 1: I got two two non patriot related questions, and then
- 46:21Speaker 1: one patriolated question. First um um for two Thoy nineteen,
- 46:26Speaker 1: when the Patriots drafting to kill her, I wanted them
- 46:30Speaker 1: to draft Lamar Jackson. I know, I mean, I know
- 46:32Speaker 1: they still at Brady, but I wanted him to draft
- 46:35Speaker 1: them all Jackson because you know, I'm wanting the future
- 46:38Speaker 1: and I just thought he was, you know, Lee was
- 46:41Speaker 1: like the next big thing. Now of what do y'all
- 46:44Speaker 1: think about day? I'm not I don't remember being like
- 46:48Speaker 1: I remember thinking, wow, here's a guy that is highly
- 46:52Speaker 1: rated that's still available. But I didn't. I wasn't, Like,
- 46:55Speaker 1: I have to be honest, I had the same kind
- 46:57Speaker 1: of thought. I thought Lamar Jackson was a dynamic athlete,
- 47:00Speaker 1: but I wasn't sure he'd ever be able to throw
- 47:02Speaker 1: well enough to be as successful as he already has been.
- 47:04Speaker 1: And there's still questions about how well he throws. Yeah,
- 47:07Speaker 1: but he is so electric as a runner that I
- 47:09Speaker 1: think any team that didn't have a quarterback would say, sure,
- 47:12Speaker 1: I'll take that. Yep, okay, okay, okay. And then um
- 47:17Speaker 1: my second one, um the top four tight ends in
- 47:20Speaker 1: the league. Um, because me and my friends having a debate,
- 47:24Speaker 1: is Kelsey, Kittle, Andrews and Waller is that correct or not?
- 47:29Speaker 1: Without giving it any thought, I would say that sounds good? Yeah,
- 47:32Speaker 1: like am I missing someone? I mean yeah, I don't
- 47:36Speaker 1: think anybody would argue with Ni Gronk has fallen off.
- 47:38Speaker 1: I don't think he's you know, but yeah, that moment,
- 47:41Speaker 1: and I would say that there are you know, there's
- 47:44Speaker 1: a lot of good tight ends. Yeah. I don't know
- 47:47Speaker 1: how many great ones they are up, but there are
- 47:48Speaker 1: a lot of good ones. And my last one waste
- 47:53Speaker 1: um as a Patriots fan, like we we don't really
- 47:57Speaker 1: have like no really like no real fan fairy risk.
- 48:00Speaker 1: I mean, besides, you know Edelman, but he's old. But
- 48:03Speaker 1: I'm talking about like jersey because like I was thinking about, like,
- 48:06Speaker 1: you know, the jerseys I've gotten, the last real jerseys
- 48:10Speaker 1: I've got, and I think it was a Groundkowski jersey.
- 48:13Speaker 1: But it's like, we don't really have any players you know,
- 48:16Speaker 1: that will stay long enough to wear as you you know,
- 48:18Speaker 1: you don't want to get their jersey because well, yeah,
- 48:20Speaker 1: certainly not that you know, like Dave Andrews has been
- 48:22Speaker 1: here for a while. But who's buying a center's jersey? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Yeah,
- 48:27Speaker 1: I love it. Rashard, I think about that a lot.
- 48:29Speaker 1: I mean, I think it it's just kind of well,
- 48:32Speaker 1: I think it sums it up. It sums it up
- 48:34Speaker 1: where they're at. You know, if you're gonna buy a jersey,
- 48:36Speaker 1: you want to buy a young player who's exciting and
- 48:38Speaker 1: gonna be there for a while. And and who would
- 48:40Speaker 1: you say other than Mac right now? I mean maybe Stevenson,
- 48:42Speaker 1: But I think there's just it speaks to the drafts
- 48:44Speaker 1: and the last maybe maybe Kendrick going if he can,
- 48:48Speaker 1: if he can, can you know, continue what he's doing. Yeah,
- 48:51Speaker 1: maybe if he can explain what you doing. But induce
- 48:53Speaker 1: I had just a bonus question for us of all
- 48:56Speaker 1: the Patriots Super Bowl runs and puts their fandom head on,
- 49:00Speaker 1: which one was your favorite? Twenty fourteen? Twenty fourteen? For sure?
- 49:04Speaker 1: That was That was my same one too. I would say,
- 49:07Speaker 1: just because I was a pure fan for the first three,
- 49:09Speaker 1: you know, just not invested any more than just a
- 49:12Speaker 1: real fan. And then in OH six I really got
- 49:14Speaker 1: into online blogging message boards, and so for that whole
- 49:18Speaker 1: space between like say two thousand and six seasons two fourteen,
- 49:22Speaker 1: I was in it. And so every loss from OH
- 49:25Speaker 1: five through then I was just devastated. And so that one,
- 49:29Speaker 1: that one meant the most, especially with how the game went.
- 49:32Speaker 1: Here we go again, another good I think I might
- 49:36Speaker 1: pick fourteen two. Yeah, I went to that. That was
- 49:42Speaker 1: one blow up, But I see I like that when
- 49:44Speaker 1: they're you know, when when you win a game when
- 49:46Speaker 1: the other team actually fought back. Yeah, and I think
- 49:50Speaker 1: back and forth game just like I would say, um,
- 49:53Speaker 1: you know, the way it was in two thousand and
- 49:56Speaker 1: one obviously will be special because it was the first one.
- 49:59Speaker 1: But I think fourteen have been picked, especially because you
- 50:02Speaker 1: remember those those playoff games too, like who they beat
- 50:05Speaker 1: in sixteen. I probably really have to think about it
- 50:07Speaker 1: for a second. Other than it was one of the
- 50:10Speaker 1: it was one of the only times since like you know,
- 50:13Speaker 1: the turn of that's you know that whatever the twenty
- 50:18Speaker 1: ten on, you know they didn't have a cupcake. Yeah
- 50:20Speaker 1: in the division round now, I think they blew out
- 50:23Speaker 1: to the double by right, Yeah, fourteen, Yeah andrew up. Yeah,
- 50:29Speaker 1: all right, I'm gonna we'll buy that year though with
- 50:31Speaker 1: the Ravens, we're gonna take a quick break, come back.

- 1:03:41Speaker 1: had to go through the replay process thing, the guy
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: in the sky what is it called the sky judges
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: that I don't know, but you know, they obviously had
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: communication with the referee and they listen. The ruling on
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: the field was an incomplete pass I wrote in the
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: nineties and Patriots Football Weekly, that's what they should do.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: So they finally and to me, just have somebody who
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: can do it with the authority right away. Have somebody, yes, yeah,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: and I think it's the command center in New York.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: But I think Fred's thing would be even better. Just
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: have one guy at every you know, just one guy
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: in charge, like because you know that all the angles
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: and yeah, quickly move things. And I think they call
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: it the Hawkeye technology, which was giving UM people access
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: to the replays quicker and not being reliant on the
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: network and different angles and whatnot. Let's get back to
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: the phones. Spi and Fresnel's been hanging on. Thanks to be.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: What's up. I think we got the new eighteen today here,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: no doubt. Yeah, no addition by subtraction. Yeah, I like,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: I actually like print everything with a see the more
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: that I thought about it, because it's just, you know,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: it goes with this like pomposity and like how he
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: kind of claims is Dilton's expertise and everything. It's also
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: called back to like the Prince of thing a little bit.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: I'm going with Prince everything. Yeah, yeah, screw you. I
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: wanted to follow up on the thing last week calling
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: about where Bill and the Schueler record, you know, kind
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: of not wanting to risk the three more losses a
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: season thing by playing the young developing players instead kind
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: of just sticking with like your thumper better in middle class.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: You know, that's that's good enough to win, you enough
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: to lose in the wild card round. And I had
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: been thinking that maybe that was that kind of build
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: scheme in order to get the Schueler record. But maybe
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: that's not the real intent behind it. Maybe it's just
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: that Bill's doing what he's always done, and like maybe
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: he just hasn't or maybe doesn't know how to like
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: have a team building process in the post Brady era,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: you know, like you're talking before about like winning with
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: a top fifteen quarterback. Maybe that's just not in Bill's
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: skill set. And that's take okay, thank speak. I'm trying
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: to think. I mean, I don't get it. I usually
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I'm big on Spee's interaction. I don't get this one. Well,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: building without a top flight quarterback is different than you know,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: like people said, I you know, listen to the radio
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: this morning. They were talking about how Brady was the
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: ultimate band aid. You know, you could make mistakes and
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Brady would cover them up, which is true. I like
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: to call them human spackle, Yeah, which is true. It's
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: it's true. And so if you don't have a top
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: flight quarterback, you know, um, it's different. It's you have
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: to worry about things. Maybe you don't have to when
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: you have that guy, you know, but it's I'll go
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: back to what I said, and you can yell at me.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: It's football, and I think Bill knows football, and I
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: think he knows football players. Yeah. I just think I'm
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: gonna say something really controversial right now. Like I'm against
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: violence against women, that's right, very anti domestic violence. I'm
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: really really against that. You might argue, you might yell
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: at me, but it's football and Bill knows football. You
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: might argue with me, Mike, I I do believe that.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: And I think I said on the show last week
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: that you know that they he has, you know, very
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: a lot of things that he believes about composition of
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: teams and balancing veterans and all that. I just wonder
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: how much of where he is now do you feel
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: like was established kind of in at New York and
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: Cleveland through those experiences, and you know, he came in
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: and then how did it evolve from that point over
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: the last twenty years when he was here, he had
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: full control. He was able to start to get the
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: pieces in place that he needed. So it wasn't you know,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: every year I'm trying to rebuild the team. As you know,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: certainly Brady was a big part of that. But I
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: just I wonder how his philosophy changed over time. You know,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: from where he started coming here from Cleveland, what he
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: took from that experience, you know, all the different things,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: the scouting language that they all speak, you know, I
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: know those things probably are still the same, but just
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: in terms of building a team, the dynamic, you know,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: wanting the right mix of you know, you don't want
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: to be too young, you don't want to be too old.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: You need elements of both. And you have to adapt
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: because what's changing below you when I'm talking about the
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: college game and the players coming out of college and
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: the high school kids going into college. You have to adapt.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: You you can't. You can't. You know, we're gonna be
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: a three or four team and that's what we are.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: You know, when you don't have enough people to do
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: to do a three four defense. Yeah, and then but
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: then I will also be guys and you know, I
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: don't necessarily subscribe to this, but that you know, it's
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: he finds market inefficiencies and he knows, you know, when
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: this kind of player is undervalued, he stocks. I don't
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: really believe all that, but I do believe that that
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: he has a you know, a chemistry to it that
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: he believes in. And I would just be curious how
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: how it's changed, and you know, how much does it
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: change when of course you got like while we got Brady,
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: So do we really you don't need to do that
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: now we're back to Yeah, we really do need to
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: make sure that this thing is is taken care of
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: because we don't have that you know, leeway. Yeah. I
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: think I think that you know, a lot of people
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: like you know, yearn for the past. I think football
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: is better than ever and because of the diversity and offense.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: You know, like four you had mostly everybody was a
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: pocket passer back when I was a kid. You know,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: now you have some teams that pocket passers, some teams
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: running quarterbacks. Teams have guys that can do both. And
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: you can't have just one defense. You have to be
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: able to adapt to the different offenses that are on
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: your schedule. Yeah, you know, you just there's no way
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: around it. The thing I found interesting, and I see
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: this too with maybe I connect with a little bit
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: more with hockey, but just how much better the sport
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: is now with the players, and I think you certainly
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: see it with the wide receiver position, with all the
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: seven on seven that kids play, and you just get
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: you know, when I was growing up, I mean there
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: certainly were towns that a pop warner and kids that
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: got some experience. Some kids like me a little too chubby.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: I don't know how that happens. You're you're too big
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: to play football when you're a kid. That was me,
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: but a lot of me and my friends we didn't
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: play till freshman year of high school. That's when hey,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: here you go, we're playing football. Now. Now you have
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: kids who, you know, like when I lived in California,
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: my boss's son who was going to Arizona, you know,
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: like he was all year long flag football camps and
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: he's I mean, he's a quarterback. A lot goes into it,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: but like Brady, like Brady, what do you mean? I
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: had a throw in coach when he was a sophomore. Yeah, So,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: I mean it's just it's continuing to build on that.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: And I mean, and Max's been all over the country
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: with it. But I guess I connect with a little
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: bit more of hockey because I played, and you know,
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: I see those players and it's the same kind of
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: thing where it's you know, you've got all these like
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: stick handling coaches and all this different stuff that goes
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: into it now and just the skill level is so
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: much greater, and and I get it. Sometimes it feels
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: like you're not tapping those modern pieces that have really
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: kind of gotten better and developed in recent years. You're
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: still kind of looking at as you know, kids who
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: by the time they get here, they've only been a
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: receiver for eight years, four years of high school, four
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: years in college, you know, but you know, they get
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: into college, they've seen a lot already because they did
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: it in high school. Then by the time they get
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: and I think that's why you're seeing so many of
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: these wide receivers hit it right away. You're throwing so
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: much more in college now, I mean, is there's no
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: pay come right in and they that part of it.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: I agree with you. I like that better because I
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: like the fact that you know the passing game. You know,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: you can have quarterbacks and receivers come into the league
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: and you don't have to wait four or five years
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: before these guys really mature into their prime. I wonder
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: if Bill Walsh was alive now, if he'd amend his
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: philosophy that you know, every quarterback needs like three years
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: on the bench. I wonder if he'd changed his mindset
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: there because things are different now. Yeah. Well, I mean
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: it's and I see both sides of it too, because
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: I see, on one hand, you're throwing the ball a
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: lot more. These these passing games are more complex, but
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: you're also seeing the whole team look at the sideline
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: wait for the coach to tell him what to do
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: that stuff I don't like, and then they all go
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: so yeah, you know, And then you wonder, well, when
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: he gets into a situation where all of a sudden,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: the defense all shifts and you can't talk to the
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: coach anymore because the communications cut off, you know, are
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: you able to process and manage that situation too? So
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: it's I think, I think for quarterbacks, as long as
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: they know why the coach on the sideline called what
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: he called and understands the reasoning behind it. I think,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: you know you can learn that way too. It's interesting
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: you say that word. That was I remember hearing Matt
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: Hasselbeck randomly as him last week, but I remember him
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: saying he really, you know, talking to people at last week,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: But I remember him saying, I've really made a significant
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: stride in my career as a quarterback when I started
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: understanding why right we were doing things and not just
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: what's the play call? Get it off? Why are we
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: doing this? And then I was understanding more conceptually how
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: to how to play the position. Yes, you know, and
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: and and I think to connect it to Mac a
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: little bit. You know, do you have some physical concerns
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: about him, Sure, but I think his processing ability and
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: his ability to throw with anticipation does all set some
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: of some of his weaknesses. And I think that then
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: goes back to what's the ceiling for a quarterback like that,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: where you already come in you kind of understand it,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Is it that much better if you understand it faster
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: or you know, or you're able to pick out flaws
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: or things that you know you've seen before. As you
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: gain that experience. So I think that's the big question.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: What as as excited as I was last year to hey,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: we got rookie quarterback coming in, what's this going to
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: be like? Now? It's like, all right, we've seen Mac,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: we've seen what he was as a rookie. What's it
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: gonna look like now? How are they going to change things?
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: And you know that that that'll be people? Oh well,
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: h we have a guest caller and uh it's Eric
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: with a K, Eric calling in from the owners meeting.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: What's up, Eric? Yeah, Well, I uh, actually on the
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: plane right now. But yeah, it was a quick meeting.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: They got their business done real quick. Okay, So and
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: what do you have to report? Well, I'm sure you
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: guys have already mentioned it, but the uh, the somewhat
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: controversial over time rule did pass today. Yeah, just for
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: the playoffs though, right, Only for the playoffs, right, But
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: it seems like they just are postponing the inevitable. So
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: each team gets a chance at it and if you're
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: tired after that, it's studden death all over again. So
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: in case of like Casey and Buffalo, if Buffalo it
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: gotten the ball and going down and scored and Tide
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: the game and then he comes back in the field
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: goal games over, So you're just kind of understand, yeah,
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: you know, yeah, yeah, yeah, So you say it was controversial.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: People were talking about like how many people liked it
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: and how many people didn't If you took a quick
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: straw pole, well, that's that's that's a good question. I
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: think most people were in favor of doing something with overtime.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: But uh, and the same seems to be a sentiment
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: to do it for the playoffs only, so not too
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: surprising that that part of it past. But just I
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know if there's a perfect solution
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: other than the ones that we've already talked about, you know,
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: in the past. But you know, letting the letting it
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: play out until somebody scores more points than the other,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: not necessarily in a sudden deathform, play an extra quarter,
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: right yeah yeah, right, yeah, um what else? What else? Yeah? Again?
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: How how was the traveling and did you get any
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: good food down there? Oh? Yeah, we've got some good
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: food down here. Yes, I was. That's always a priority,
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: as you well know, yea, But I mean there wasn't
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: much There wasn't much news coming up. The big buzz
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: was all about. You know, the AFC really was dominating
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: a conversation down here with all the all the transactions
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: that have that have gone on, it would have past
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: two weeks and you know, obviously we talked to the
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: owner this morning. Yeah, and that was well, you know,
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: he said in the bar Hind he wants to compete
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: this year. So you know, kind of what you've been
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: saying all along, Fred is kind of what he's thinking. Yeah,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: what about um NFL wise, scuttle butt about DeShawn Watson
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: and what you know what his name, you know, other
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: than the trade and you know, helping the AFT be
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: that much more competitive than that conference in that division,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: his name really hasn't come up because you know, I'm
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: almost like the commissioner frowned upon that sort of discussion
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: at the owners meeting. I was, I was surprised to
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: hear and I don't know how many it is, but
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: long time Cleveland fans saying I'm done. Yeah, I know
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: I've seen some of that. Yeah, I always don't really
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: buy it, but I have seen it. Yeah, for how long?
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: Right exactly? I mean until they start winning games, right
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: then they'll be back. But not topic of conversation. Okay,
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: so all right, well, um, other than that, Yeah, so
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: you're on a plane waiting to take off. As you
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: you're on the runway. The part in the background noise,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: that's what's going on. Masks required. Oh yeah, unfortunately, Yeah,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: mass required TSA. Did you were able to get through
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: t SA on that special thing that you have? I was,
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: it took it took me. It took me less time
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: to get through it. And it's a call into the show. Yeah,
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: I didn't know if like you had updated it since
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: you hadn't been traveling for two years. If that requires
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: for a certain amount of it's good for a certain
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: amount of time. You have to renew it every so often.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: But right, good for now? Okay, how how annoyed is
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: the person sitting next to you right now? Sorry, Paul,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: I couldn't hear you. That was deuce. I just wonder
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: not if if you're sitting next to anybody right now
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: and if they're annoyed with you? Yeah, okay, they're loving it.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: Just go into my radio show real quick. Excuse me?
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: Is everybody on the flight like a lot of people
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: from the meeting? Um, I haven't seen anybody actually, Oh,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: you're the one there. Wow. Yeah, okay, I did see
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: somebody I recognized in the next get who was going
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: to Boston. Yeah, you're flying into Providence, right, that's right, Yeah,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: when no one, no one would be Why would you
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: be going back to Providence probably on an empty probably
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: on an empty for you snack you get the biscuit
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: or the pretzels or the nuts. I try to get full.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: Oh you asked for because it hurting the chest for
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: the throat. Okay, all right, um, I hope they have
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: a vegetarian uh platter offering on them on the menu.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: All right, all right, well underscore, we'll see you. So
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: no news to report, kidding, Well, I mean he did
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: start to talk about Robert and you're like, we already
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: talked about it. I think that's probably what he was called.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: One of the things that I think he did was
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: he was supposed to go around all the other coaches.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: Yeah he did. He got uh you know the AFC
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Arms race kind of dl. I know he talked to well,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: he didn't talk to you. He got quotes from Sean McDermott,
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: Andy Reid, um, someone else, Cincinnati, Yeah, Zach Taylor. Um.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: So yeah, he went around the league a little bit
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: um and basically around the league is the AFC, because
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: that's that's where the arms race is. Yeah, all right,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: let's get back to the phones. Dave's in Manitoba, Canada.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: What's up, Dave good an opinion, there'll be a question
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: for you guys, if you have the time, you want
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: it eagerly anticipating the trivia excellent. My opinion is, I'm
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: glad to hear you guys talking about football again. These
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: last few weeks of just contract talk is it's disturbing
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: in my books, Like when we got Randy Moss, I
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: can vividly remember everybody being excited about a star receiver
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: already cared about what he got paid or what it
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: was going to cost us because he wasn't making any money. Well,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: everybody cared the second gear when he signed that contract extension,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: people cared, well, they cared. But I mean, a guy
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: like Darren Waller and DeVante Adams are going to be
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: playing together and I haven't heard moved about it. All
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: they care about is that he got honored forty million.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: And yeah, just my opinion, I'm tired of hearing contract
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: outs and I want to talk about football. Okay, I'm
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: probably alone on that one. All right, what's your trivia question?
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: Let's get to it. In the twenty fourteen season, Week six,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: the Patriots beat Bill thirty seven, twenty two, and Brady
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: hit passes to four wide receivers, three tight ends, two
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: running backs and a full back. Can you guys name
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: the ten players? Oh? God? What is what is the question?
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: Twenty fourteen thirty seven to say? Thirty seven twenty one,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: twenty two win over the Bills Week six, yep, twenty seven?
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Who were the ten people that Brady hit four four
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: wide receivers, three tight ends, two running back and a
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: full back? No idea? Well so Hernandez and Gronk? Oh No,
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: Hernandez has gone right? Fourteen? Gronk has won? Um Edelman
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: Edelman la fell? Yeah? Uh? Oh MANOUI James White Manui
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: was one? Yeah? White was not one of them. White
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: wasn't Shane Vereen? Correct up? Veren? Okay, I don't know
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: what do we get? Yeah? Five, I don't know. I
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: don't know. Brandy Moas now, Danny Amendola there yet? It
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: wasn't there yet? Why don't you just tell us? All right?
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: It was a few odd names. I thought it would
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: be interesting, Uh, James Devlin him right, Aaron Dobson him
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: that list. It's a good question. It's actually a good
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: trivia question because of you know, the Brian Tims and
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: you know those kinds of guys. Stephen Ridley. I didn't
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: even think of him fourteen, Yeah, it had some odd
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: names on him. I thought it'd be interesting. Okay, well
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: you were wrong. You're a bad guy. All right, thank you,
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: thanks for the trivia. Always welcome here. I mean it's
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: just like, we have some news. Can you recite the
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: twenty fourteen rocks? We have something, We have some new
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: students news. The Patriots have in fact signed Jabrill Peppers
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: to win you. Oh okay, so there, there it is, there,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: it is there, it is. So I still have my question,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: why don't they like Kyle Dugger as much as I do? Right?
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: The stock up on safety well punt returner, right, Like
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: I think that Kyle Dugger looks to me the prototype
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: explosive dangerous punt return Well, he wasn't. Leonora Rhyan, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: And I see him look very fluid doing it in
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: the practice field. I'm necessarily more talking about how he
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: looks here doing it, but they never really give him
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: chances in games. Well, I mean, Leonora Ryan, you know
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: you do it in a department store for plus side dresses.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: You know. It's not the same as the NFL. The
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: way I would have said, I just said I've been
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: talking about here, but I didn't want to step on
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: the line. People are like, what is he talking about?
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: One year deal? Little a little curious, you know, I
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: just guy, I don't know, coming off an injury, it's
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: almost like the rebuild one year. I don't know, a
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: one year deal. It's just say it's perfect for you,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: you know, one year proven deal, and we just get
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: rid of it. I know, but that's not a rebuilding
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: move because they are rebuilding now. They know they're not
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: doing anything now. I don't know. That's my point, So
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: why bother them? That's not really like because I could
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: see two year like all right, he would tell you
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: the answer to that. It's some insurance for mccordy if
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: you didn't you know, yeah, back next year you're probably
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: not gonna get And he's coming off an ACL and
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: an ankle, so right, I don't I don't know when
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: he's gonna be actually ready, So I don't. It just
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: seems like you're you're not gonna get a lot of
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: bang for your bucket. I don't want to say buck
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: because I don't really care about the money of it all.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: But I don't know. It just seems a little bit curious.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: It's given him a chance to come in and you know,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: rebuild his brand or for lack of a better word.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: But I don't know. One year deal, how much is
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: he gonna play. I don't know, a little curious. Yeah.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: I think it's a great move for the Patriots. Okay,
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: I just want to Okay, Patriots. I want to join
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: the Patriots. You haven't seen the contract yet. How can
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: you say that it's great. It's a great deal. It's
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: one year, you can always get out. Good move for
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: the Patriots. Solid don't percent get it, But that's really
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: good move. Like I said earlier in the show, I'm
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: not going to change my opinion now after they actually
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: signed the guy. Anytime you can add good players to
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: your roster, I'm sort of for it. Yeah. So I
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: think I think Jabrill Peppers. I don't think he's a
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: great player, but I think he's a good one. See
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: where he fits. I'll always take a swing on a
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: former first round pick's healthy. If he's healthy and he's good,
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: and then he leaves, I just you know, it goes
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: back to it goes back to the call from William
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: of of. I think I think fans probably want more
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: guys to kind of latch onto and have our guys
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: and ore that were, you know, our stars. And I
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: think it's a little hard right now. I mean, I
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: think Judean built a little bit of that up, but
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: I think they need more. I wonder if it was
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: a one year deal, because that's what Peppers wanted. Maybe
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: he didn't get much interest. You know, here we are,
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: you know, two and a half weeks in, maybe there
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: weren't wasn't much interest, and he said, well I'll take
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: I'll take a one year deal, chance to get back
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: on the market. It's also interesting they want to one
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: year deal. Not I can't. I can't make this stuff up.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: I just can't make it up. Mark Daniels, this is
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: a really good signing for the Patriots. Peppers played more
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: in the slot last season, Like just what, just one
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: time I want someone to say, I'm not sure I
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: get this one. You don't have to tell me it's
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: a terrible move because it's not a terrible move. It's
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: not a terrible move, but just once can somebody that
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: covers this team say, I'm not sure I get this one.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: This isn't really sure he gets it? Yeah, well, on
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: a one year deal because and also too, I think
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: a lot of the two year deals you're seeing that
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: they're able to kind of spread out that CAP's money
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: a little bit. So it's you know, you're not eating
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: and so whatever this contract is, it's all, it's all
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: coming out of this year. It's just interesting. So Patriots
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: signing Jabrill Peppers. So tell me the Patriots aren't doing
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: anything of free agency. Let's go to where they are. Todd,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: North Carolina, what's up, Todd? Well, first of all, thank
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: you guys for being in the doldrums of the football year.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: I know that this is exciting to see. If you
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: think this is bad, way, don't you see it like
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: May June. Anyway, My question is I've been watching some
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: games and I noticed that a lot of little slot
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: guys go right across loss the field. And I remember
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: in the olden days, back when you know there's two thousands,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: those guys would get lit up, what is the rule exactly?
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: When where can you hit a receiver if he if
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: he comes off the line, can you get him just
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: at the line or what if he doesn't have the ball?
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: You can't hit him past five yards? You know so?
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: And then if you're on the field, and but that
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: hasn't changed, there's no rule change on that. No, so
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: you can't hit him past five yards. And then obviously
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: you can't hit him above the shoulders, right head any time,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: head or neck area anytime. Um, you know so you can,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: like I've seen guys you can't, and you can't leave
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: with your helmet, and virtually anytime you get hit hard,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: a flag's gonna come. No, no, no, Because I've been
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: watching the Thank you mich I've seen a lot of
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: guys get lit up over the middle, clean head and
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: clean hits, and almost every time a flag come. I
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: don't think so almost every time, not every time. There's
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: always exceptions. I might. I'm just sick of being like,
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: that was a great hit and that's a penalty. Oh,
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: especially if the ball is incomplete. The only chance you
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: have of not being a flag if the guy holds on.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: It's like somehow the referee says, well, it couldn't have
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: been that bad because he caught it. Yeah. Well, if
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: it's incomplete, the balls by him and he gets hit,
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: that's the defenseless, uh you know player. Yeah right, that's
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: just that's the part that's changed. What's talking quite a
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: few hits that would have been totally legal, and it's
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: just you just got him too good. You got him
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: too good, him too hard. Yeah. Yeah. And my next
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: one is you guys actually touched on this about you know,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: Croft maybe having a little bit more influence than what's
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: going on in the matters because of the way things
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: are progressing, with the the lack of well winning, I guess,
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: or or the scene of progress. You think he's actually
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: dipping his fingers in and kind of pushing Bill a
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: little bit with his comments, or do you just think
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: that this is just a normal look. I want to win.
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: We're a winning team and that's what I'm about. I
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: think I think his comments are pushing Bill, and I
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: think he's not just doing it publicly. I think he's
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: doing it privately. And but I don't think he's meddling,
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: you know, I think, yeah, I don't think he's meddling,
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: But I think he's expressing the concern that we all have,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: and he wants I think he wants people to know
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: that he shares that concern. Like he's not just like
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: happy with not winning playoff games. That doesn't make him happy.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: He wants he wants the fan base to know that
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: their owner gives a crap there. You know, maybe that's
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: what Bill's doing, trying to get the team winning instead
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: of this whole thing. Well he's trying to go after
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: the record. Maybe he's actually being responding to what you know,
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: his boss is telling him to do. Get out there,
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: get me some wins, get me in the playoffs, win
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: the playoff game. Yeah, so maybe some fans got to
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: step back a little bit and stop freaking out like me. Yeah. Now,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: And the question is, like we talked about it last year, patience,
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: you know, do you do that? Do you you know?
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Do you do that? You know in spite of building
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: for the long term, where's that balance? And you wonder, like,
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: you know, but the beauty of it all is I
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: don't think Bill gives up. He doesn't feel that pressure
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: like no, but like he's not gonna oh you know,
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: Robert Kraft has to win now. Point I'm going to
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: alter how I want to build this team. No, you know,
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: he's gonna do what he thinks. You know it's cliche now,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: but in the best interest of the team. Do you
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: think that he felt pressure, not from Robert Kraft last year,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: but from Tom Brady's success. Uh, he's human. I can't
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: believe that he didn't human. I think he's human. He's competitive,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I do, but I also don't buy into the ninety
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: eight five that like he had to answer Tom Brady.
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: I think that's what that's I think that was his goal.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: But well he didn't he didn't want to see. But
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: I think that was what that was what he said
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: out that. I think that's why he's he's signed Cam
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Newton because I think he felt like, I'm gonna bring
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: him back and I'm gonna get all these guys and
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna and I'm gonna bring him all in for
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: Cam Newton. And then it was like, I didn't really
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: work out that way. Mac is better. I'm probably not
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: going able to win the Super Bowl, but this is
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: what I have to do because back to Fred's thing,
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: it's it's better for the team. Yeah, but I think
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: that was his goal. Was to take a run. Sure,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: you don't sign Cam Newton for long term. You know
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: that was a win now signing, but because of Brady,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: like when you sent Gronk and now you sent Jack Mason.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: Maybe not, but but I still think that, Like he's
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: a human being and wins the super Bowl. It's like,
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: you can't say that it didn't look worse for Bill
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: when Brady leaves and immediately wins the super Bowl. It did.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: But what is an answer for Bill to answer Brady?
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: He has to win the Sea failed, That's what and
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: I think that's what last year was all about. So
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: he's trying to win the super Bowl? Yes, every because
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: of Brady? Well, every, Yes, I think that added incentive.
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: I'm with Fred, I'm with you, Fred. Yeah, I agree
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: with you. You know, I think he's a human being
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: and but but the question is how much does that
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: altar what he knows is tried and true, right, And
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: I don't think it does. Yeah, you know, so what
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: did he do different? Then? You know, what did he
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: really Like? I don't know, I just spent like all
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: these us Brady more than he wants to just win
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: the Super But I think there was an opportunity going
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: back to Cam Newton. I think it was an opportunity.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: He took a flyer, like maybe maybe it comes full circle.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: Maybe guy can find some of the magic that he
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: had and we can go on a little run here.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: And it didn't work out. That was not work by
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: the way, that was another year two. Yeah, year two
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: be better. Year two. Year two? Well, no, who Cam,
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: Cam Newton, Cam Newton. That was the thought that whole
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: don't say that. It wasn't everybody thought everybody not me, Fred,
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: our show is very balanced and impartially. I was shocked
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: when they resigned it. So was I. But our show,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: it's like, what are we doing. I'm not trying to
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: like tell everybody, you know, we should be winning awards
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: or anything, but our show if nothing else is balanced
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: and impartial. Yeah, okay, yeah, everybody else. And you have
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: to admit this if you read it for Mike REESEO,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: Mark Daniels or Jeff hat another year in the system,
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: he's going to be much more comfortable in the off
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: season having learned the whole offer. It's going to be
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: better in year two. That was the narrative quote unquote
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: on Cam Newton. And then they signed him. Remember Yeah,
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: this is what people talked about the entirety of the offseason.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: Cam will be better. Remember our pal Betty Love, you know,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: killing us, you know every day when we weren't saying
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: that he was getting starting reps because he you know,
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: he wasn't doing anything the same. It was the same,
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: but that was the narrative. Head He looked at training camp,
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: it will be better in year two because there'll be
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: more comfortable in the system. Immediately, he looked no better
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: than a rookie, and that meant and we all said,
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: if everything's even, you know, right, Yeah, if you're even,
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: you're leaving them right. And he was leaving you know,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: he's perfect. Mac looked just as good as he did.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: They had both had good days, they had bad days, right,
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: And I said that, and I think the right test.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: I think I made that comment, like I continue to
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: see no difference between these two and that's a massive
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: indictment of Cam Newton that a rookie looks exactly the
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: same as he does. Yeah, now I was wrong. I
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: was wrong. I thought that I thought that Mac was
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: gonna have to, you know, clearly beat him out for
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: Bill to make the move, because you're not a watcher
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: and like observer of nag the way Eric, I thought
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: he'd go with that hid it. I know you did,
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: but I thought as as long as they were even
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: that Mac, I mean, Bill would stick with the veteran,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: to be honest with you, but I was wrong, and
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: I don't know. See, I don't know why I was wrong.
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: I don't know that you were wrong, because I really
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: think that it could have unfolded dramatically differently if not
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: for COVID. You mean when when Cam went out, I
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: think that was it. Yeah, I think that was it. Ye,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: but that was last year. I mean that was the
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: first year. That was the summer when when he went
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: out and Mac against the Giants because he also had
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: COVID in the first season, right, but training camp was
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: completely disrupted by him. Yeah, that's true. And I think
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: that was that caused Bill to take a step back
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: and say, I can't do this. Yeah, it's not good
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: enough to do this. I can't rely on him. I
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: can't rely on him. I think that, like to you,
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: So I wasn't wrong, yeah, and I'm not listening. You
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: weren't right. You weren't right either, But I don't necessarily
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: think you were wrong. Yeah, you know, like, uh, did
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: you happen to catch the SPFW that's ripping me? Um.
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: How many wins did you predict the team to have
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: last year? I've said ten and seven? Right? And did
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: did people laugh at you for that? No? Okay, thank you.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: I really appreciate the honesty of that answer. I never
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: laughed at you. Nobody laughed. Because I thought they were
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: going to be a playoff. I didn't think they would
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: win ten games six wins from Erica. Yeah, but I
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: thought nine like he thought ten. Like, I don't know
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: they're getting because you know my snarkiness, Like, you know,
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: people don't like it. Because when I was telling you
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: that the seven game winning streak was a little right suspect. Yeah,
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: and I ended up being right yea. So now people
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: were saying that I'm taking credit for being right when
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: I was all wrong last year. I wasn't all wrong
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: last year. I thought they would be on they would
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: be in the playoff hunt and have a chance for
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: a playoff, and that's ultimately what they did. Yep, they
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: got into the playoffs. I thought they'd be putting up
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: a billboard about the bills. So I mean I was wrong, right,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: but I just wanted to I just wanted to address
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: that one because I am wrong about a lot of things,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: and I really don't have a whole big problem admitting it.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: There's a lot of different things that I was like, Yeah,
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: I didn't see Richard Seymour being a Hall of Fame
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: player when they drafted him, like to go all the
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: way back in the way back machine. Yeah, there's a
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: lot of things that people are wrong about. There's nothing
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: wrong with I still thought Robert Gallery was gonna be good.
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: There's nothing wrong with saying that you were wrong. I
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: thought we didn't need Dante high Tier because we have
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: branded spikes. There's a million of those. Yeah, ROSSI is
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: one of my mock brass. Let's go to Jeff in California. Hey, Jeff, Yeah,
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: is what's going on? Hey, Paul, you must have been
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: reading my mind there when I was on hold, because
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: one of the reasons I was calling in was to
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: give you props for calling out all the fraud last week.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: They one hundred percent are mad at you because you
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: were right. Oh yeah, it's clear as day. People are
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: just so sensitive about that. To anybody that wants to
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: just kind of evaluate things, realistically, it's like you looked
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: at that wind Streak. I was the same way. I'm like,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: they're not as good as this wind streak, and people
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: just got so that was a good one, I really.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: I mean the very first win of that wind Streak
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: was the only one. I was really impressed with the Chargers. Yeah,
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: that was a really good win with no asterisk. Like
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: the Chargers had most of their players, you had most
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: of yours. You went on the road, you were trailing
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter, and you found a way to
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: win the game. I thought the Falcons was a good win.
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: Thursday night on the road. You shut out another team,
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: but it's terrible, terrible team, you know, but you still
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: it's still a tough spot. And they shut him out,
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: they shut him out healthy. Then yeah, maybe okay, then
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: maybe I would have felt different. They had any players
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: of any significance playing other than Mat I mean even
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: Cordarrol Patterson didn't play that night. That's true. No, I
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: like the Browns win. Yeah, I don't like him anymore.
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: He's not my guy no more. Bred Just remember you know,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: uh did uh Isaiah win uh Pro Bowl? Guard? At minimum?
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: And it's still it's still on the table still on
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: the table when you when you goes to right guard,
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: Win goes to to left guard, and then they draft
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: a left tup done. What what was my everybody out
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: of position? What was my bad? Bull? You had to win?
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: Prediction of that? I thought you last year, maybe it
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: was even the year before you thought Win was gonna
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: is going to come on. His floor is a pro bowl,
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: I think maybe even all pro guard. Yeah, that's just floor.
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: Jeff is right, that's what Fred. But if they never
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: play him at guard, I can't be wrong. That's the
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: beauty of us wrong, that's the beauty of us. Right,
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: that's that's the beauty. Just when you thought you had
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: the answers, I changed the questions. That's right. That's the
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: beauty of the thread model of arguing of just move
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: the goal posts. All right, that's alright, alright, alright, alright,
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: that's going too far. I like you before, but not anymore.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: Jeff about it. It's funny because he brings that up
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: and like and and all accurate of what you're saying.
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: And I just I don't feel like they were as
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: good as they were in that wind streak. And I
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: don't feel like they were as bad as they were
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: at the end, and the truth is, you know, somewhere
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: in the middle of of what they actually were, I
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: would agree. I would agree with that, as bad as
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: it looked at the end where you can't even force
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: a punt like But here's my question. But I agree
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: with you. I don't think they were as bad as
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: they played in the last five weeks of the season.
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: But what do you think is close? Well it here's
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: the thing. They lost four the last five games, right
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: or five out of the last six or something like that.
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: The game that they won, they pasted the Jaguars because
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: the Jaguars absolutely stink. Oh and by the way, were
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: absolutely ravaged Mike ovid right, you know, so even bad
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: players weren't playing, you know, so they did like they
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: would you know, I forget the score, but they just
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: a yeah, it was it was fifty fourth. It was ridiculous.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: But those teams that they lost to the Bill you know,
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: Bills twice, the Colts, and the Dolphins, all teams in
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: the hunt for playoff spot, and the Patriots got man handled. Right. Well,
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: that's the thing. You can't and that's why I agree
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: with Mike. I don't think they're as bad as that.
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: Like they really weren't overly competitive in those full losses, right,
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: Like the score at times got reasonably close, but they
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: were to use your word, many games. And that Colts
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: game that was the end. That was it. I mean
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: you went in there and like, you know, this team
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: that's putting up banners for like no reason, just absolutely
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: they you know, they really got to appreciate how you
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: can get a shot in at the team that manhandled
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: and and I'm sure not only that the mistakes of
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: early in the season that you thought you had put
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: behind you came back. They started doing those again. You know,
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: that's hard to square. Is just that a team that
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: hammers the bad team hammers them like embarrassing, right, but
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: then gets embarrassed by the good teams. And you know,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: and and that's why I guess I think it speaks
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: more to the chemistry. How can you not let the
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: same team not punt right in two games? How can that?
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: I've never seen that happen. And though I don't think
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: it's I think it is, especially a division opponent where
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: there's no surprise. Well, you know that two years, two
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: times every year Playoff one to me was particularly embarrassing
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: because it was a touchdown, like what's going on there? What? Like,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: what is going on there? And conceivably, if the field
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: was like three thousand yards long, they could have run
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: the whole clock out because they never would have stopped him.
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: You know, if Bill doesn't think that's who they are,
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: then there's got to be a reason why that happened.
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: I know. Well, I was laughing too about that that
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: famous thing of well, we'll find out next year when
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: we start playing again. And I guess we didn't take
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: it that way at the time, but he's bringing the
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: same team back, so that that was what he meant, right,
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: And then they wouldn't touch that question, right because Reese
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: tried to get him on that, right. Yeah, he never
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: he wouldn't go there, you know. Yeah, But I just
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: I think it's and I know that there's a talent
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: debate about needing more talent, but to me, that speaks
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: more about the team, you know, the chemistry the well
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: and I'll touch on that for second, Mike, if you
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: if you don't like when that Colts game and they
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: you know, coming out of that Colts game, if you
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: remember that was the game coming off the buy and
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: there was a lot of talk about the oddities of
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: that particular buy because they had played I think on
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: the Monday night, right, the blizzard gather the tornado or
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: whatever in Buffalo was the Monday night and then they
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: played on Saturday. Do you remember what the players talking
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: about the abnormalities of that bond? That's not Patriots talk. Now,
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: they might do it internally, right, Bill might have it
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: up on the screens for them to say, like, this
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: is why they're out to get you, it's us against
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: the world that and that's that's worked well for them
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: in the past, right, But they were openly talking about it, right,
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: And I think that was the game after the game
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: that Max said we got to stop feeling sorry for
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: ourselves or something along those lines. Remember, right, what are
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: you feeling sorry about? Right? And No, but I think
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: Mac was right. I know, I don't say that to
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: another size Mac. I think Mac accurately portrayed based on
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: what happened. No, I'm Mac had a good handle on
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: what was going on and what could you possibly feeling
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: sorry for yourself about it? And I think he was accurate.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: I think he had an accurate portrayal of some of
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: the mentality that was in the locker room, and I
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: remember we talked about it in that week and then
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: the weeks going forward with Matthew Slater talking about, you know,
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: we have we have a choice. We can pass. I
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: could up go home and quit, or we can fight.
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: I know what I'm gonna do. I don't know what.
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: And I remember Eric and I was saying, this really
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: concerns me, and you telling me why. Wow. Now again,
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: I'm not. I don't bring that up to talk about it.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: I don't bring it up to talk about an argument.
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: I bring it up to say I think Mike is
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: right when he talks about there were some things in
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: the locker room that were a little bit different than
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: we normally see. And I wonder if some of these guys,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: you know, you brought in a whole bunch of significant
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: players that are new to hear to the way they
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: do things here, and they they have like they have
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: a status based on their contracts. Right like aggila Or
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: may not have done anything, but he's getting paid. It
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: ain't going anywhere. Well, you're gonna eat a lot of money.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: The thing about it, though, I'd just use aggle Or
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: as an example, not that I think he was part
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: of the problem. I have no idea. Those things that
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: we're pointing out here are things you hear from teams
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: that are having trouble at the end of the season. Yeah,
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: you know, that's what you hear. And and to be fair,
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: it's it's not just last season, it's the last three
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: seasons that they've really sputtered down, not done what you
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: traditionally think of the Patriots. And you know again it's
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: you know, I know that they need talent and speed
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: and all those things, but that's that's what lingers. The
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: bad taste that lingers is just something felt off about
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: this chemistry. This This wasn't a team that circled the
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: wagons fought you. And it's just it's the disparity between
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: having that Jacksonville game right in the middle where it's
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: like we got nothing, we got nothing, we got oh
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: well hammer the jack no problem, we got that one.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: Oh we got nothing again like that, Like that's just
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: the Miami game to me was really eye opening, like
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: that they couldn't say, Okay, we got our swagger back
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: last week, let's go down to Miami and take care
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: of business. Right. I couldn't do it. Uh, Cody, and
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: Fresno writes in I absolutely love the statement from mister Kraft.
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: To hear him talk about how much losing bothers him
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: and how he thinks long term success is built through
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: the draft gives me hope as a fan. In my mind,
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: this is a direct call out to the draft staff,
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: put them on notice and demanding better from everyone involved
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: with selecting future Patriots. He gives he gave his props
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: for the recent success, which is great because that sets
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: the expectation. We need difference makers, players with ability who
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: will stay and develop for the long term. Kraft knows it,
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: the fans know it. Let's go get it. I'm fired up.
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: Let's go it really is I mean, I think as
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: a fan the biggest thing I would be afraid of
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: was the Jeremy Jacob's style of ownership of you know,
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: not really caring about winning, just kind of wanting to
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: be competitive. You know, we'll pay when we have to,
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: but we're not gonna shell out big bucks. Like as
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: a fan, that feels like a death sentence. And I think,
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: you know what mister Kraft said today, hit hit the
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: right time. Asked to choose between those two options, I'll
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: take Craft every time. I gotta share something with Paul
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: right now. So we were talking about the Will Smith
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: memes that are going around with the snap. Well, I
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: just found my wife off the top rope the best
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: one yet, Missus Kittner. Oh nice giving it to Mark Brody.
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: I like it, Thank you, thank you, Delane. She gets
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: she gets me, but I've never met out. It's a
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: big part of the show, especially on Sundays. Fred. Yeah,
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: I saw I heard one of your shows yesterday, Paul
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: think saying that that Will Smith thing was, uh, you know,
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: put on No Way again one of my shows. It
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: was real, that was on. I know they're all your shows,
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: they're all your shows used to be my show back Channel,
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: and there's no way that was fake. That was absolutely
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: for real. No. But I definitely would rather have my
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: owner be really concerned about winning rather than the bottom line. Yeah, um,
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: and I agree. I think Robert Kraft first and foremost
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: is a fan and wants to win, and Jeremy Jake
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: Ebb's first and foremost as a businessman who wants to
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: make money, and I would rather have Craft. However, I
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: wouldn't really mind at all if I never heard from
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: my owner, like, I don't need to hear what his
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: thoughts are on the philosophy fees of winning. Like, I
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: think it's great that Robert spoke today, and you know
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: that that's it's it's nice to have an organization step
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: up and have their head coach and their owner at
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: the owner's meetings. They're taking accountability. Nothing wrong with that.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: But I if I'm if I'm a fan of the team,
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: I don't like, I don't need but I don't need
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: my owner. But if you're a fan of the team
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: and things aren't going well, don't you want to hear
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: the owner from the head coach. That's all. That's all
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: I care about. You only want to hear from the
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: owner when and he fires the head coach. Yepkay, that
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: tells me that he wasn't happy with the performance, right
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: and you know to the to the email is uh
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: you know point that tells him that Robert is putting
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: them on notice. So you think if they have a
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: bad draft this year, they're out. Because there's no chance
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: that they're out. No, a mere first Bill decides to
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: leave a mere from Haifa writes in while I understand
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: the idea behind the OT rule, change. I'm not sure
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: past results suggest it's a really it's really warranted. In
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: the past decade, there were twelve playoffs which went into
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: overtime only seven of them. Of them were decided over
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: the first possession. Yeah, ten of them by the guy
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: the team that won the toss. Also, please tell Bighead
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: that his new co host sounds like a seven year
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: old negative child. Maybe it works for sports radio, but
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: it doesn't fit a podcast. Who is that? Who is it?
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: I thought he did it with? Um Ryan's gone? Ryan left? Yeah,
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: took a job at a one of those betting places
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: in the dream. Apparently everybody's gonna go there. Oh, I man,
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: I had some great interactions with him last night. I'm surprised, Paul,
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: you haven't had offers. Well, just so you know, I
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: might be looking into it. After that. Oh, they told
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: Ryan don't work too much? Yeah, uh so, who's really
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: into work life balance and not overworking. I did a
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: few things on Sunday night a few weeks ago, and
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: my boss basically inferred to not do that again. The
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: Friday of March Madness, they said to start working once
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: the game started. I said, any job openings, that's funny. Um,
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: who's the new co hostn't? I don't have to double
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: check if somebody knows it's not Mutt, is it? I
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: honestly don't know, Like I haven't heard it, and Andy
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: hasn't asked me. I don't know any since Ryan's last
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: podcast with Andy. That's the last time I was on
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: it with them. Yeah, man, um, let's see Sean and Vancouver. Hello, Fred,
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: Mike and Paul. Is Eric okay? Yes, he's flying back
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: from the owners meeting. He's fine. If Jacob Johnson is
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: right and the Patriots won't use a true fullback in
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: twenty twenty two, I'd love to see them use formations
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: that lead to less predictability. Have John block a couple
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: of times and then sneak out for pass. Have Harrison
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: White in the backfield so they can run or pass
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: based on what they see from their opponent. Maybe even
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: Stevenson with Harrison two more three wide receiver sets keep
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: defenses on their toes. Yeah, it wasn't that the predominant
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: set last year? Three wide receivers. Yeah, and I'd say
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: that's kind of what they do with John too. But
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: you know, again, I think it's just this is still
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: in that same area of wanting to like elevate the
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: offense and have an offense that's you know, a modern
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: NFL offense that's got some cutting edge kind of stuff
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: to it, and you know, we'll see what it looks like. Yeah.
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: The whole tricking, you know, tricking teams, keeping teams on
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: their toes offensively by being less predictive, be less predictable
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: offensively with your play calling is the equivalent of We've
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: got to get a guy in a you know, a cheap,
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: team friendly deal. Yeah, it's all like, if you have players,
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: I don't care what they cost, right, And if you
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: have players, I don't care if the other team knows
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: what I'm doing. I'm going to win because I have
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: players that are better than the guys covering them. Jacket
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: in Arbor, I suspect that the reason why the Patriots
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: don't like Dugger as a kick returner is that kick
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: returners is exposed to a heightened risk of injury. The
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: Patriots value Dugger too much as a safety to expose
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: them to increase risk of injury while returning kicks. I
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: can absolutely one thousand percent guarantee you that that is
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: not the case. Really, that's not why Kyle Dugger isn't
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: a returner. Bill has used guys in that capacity countless
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: times over the years, going back to Troy Brown, Wes Welker,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: Julian Edelman, Julian Edelman coming off an injury, Danny Amendola.
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: That's not what If he thought Kyle Dugger was the
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: best option, he'd be doing it. I barely even see him.
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: I like, I'm trying to remember a little bit. But
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: he returns a ton in practice I've never seen like.
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: I don't even think we need a play right now.
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: Just throw him back there to see. I don't know
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: if I've ever seen him even do a punt in
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: a preseason game. I'm not sure I have. I don't
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: think I've seen him do kicks periodically, but not punts.
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: And I want to see him as a punt returner.
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: We've seen more of him as a punt returner than
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: to kill Harry, and we started to kill Harry do
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: it in a game. But but in all seriousness, Bill
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: does not save guys from special teams roles to prevent
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: them from being injured. He believes in using the best
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: players in those roles, and he always has. It's also
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: just possible that Kyle Dugger at the department store, that
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: he went to college, that he was just that much
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: better than all those guys and an NFL level. They're like,
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: he's not. He doesn't have the quickness of the instincts
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: to do it at the NFL level. That's that's possible too. Yeah,
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: he doesn't have the instincts of a gun Rolschewsky, Kevin writes.
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: Kevin writes in doesn't say where he's from, which Eric
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: does not like. Uh, he says, So, I know this
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: won't get on the radio or anything, but I wanted
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: to write you anyway. Patriots fans need to chill the
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: f out out. I understand you guys being passionately upset
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: about the Patriots free agent decisions, but these people are
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: actually emotionally hurt and angry because of the people they
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: haven't gotten. Just a game you're watching TV. People, Relax,
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: It doesn't affect you at all, not even a little.
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: It might affect you, guys a bit, because it's your
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: job to care. It's bad enough listening to Paul acting
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: like his world is burning. That's Paul, these random Thank
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: God you don't speak for the rest of the fans.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: It's all I can say. We would all be out
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: of a job. These ran them. People need to step
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: away from the ledge since it seems like they are
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: literally suicidal. Calm down. It's a damn game that they
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: don't even play. Just enjoy watching the game, which I
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: understand is more fun if we are better. But relax,
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: Brady is gone and we aren't going to be as
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: good pretty obvious. I bought a win of its jersey,
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: which I know wasn't the best choice to begin with,
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: but I'm not crying myself to sleep because he got traded. Anyway.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: You guys are great. Just had to vent after listening
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: to Thursday's show Jess again. Thank god that that's a
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: vast minority opinion. Otherwise, what will we be doing? Yeah? Well,
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: I mean, and I don't get too worked about free agency.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: I get people do, but like I get worked up
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: about when we start talking about last season and like
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: how it ended and that, like that whole conversation we
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: had like the last That's what gets me, like, like
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: what we get some of those calls on free agency?
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: Those are the things that that are frustrating. But but
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: isn't that what it's all? About That's what it's all about,
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: and like being a sports fan, it's all about passion
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: and emotion. Hell let it out for this than other
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: things in the world. Jake your friendly pool guy from Bendigo, Australia.
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: I know it's been a lot of free agency and
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: draft talk of late, but after listening to the Edelman Cast,
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: it got me thinking, Yes, we may have two former
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: head coaches about to attempt to run some offense, but
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on bringing back old players to
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: be in those top positions. I know they'll bring a
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: fresh perspective fingers crossed, but an ex player would know
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: our systems inside and out. That could help maybe extend
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: or broaden what is already in place. You're all a
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: bunch of bonds of blokes, keep up the ripper work.
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: I think that was a compliment, right, I think, so
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: I'm going to go with that. Yeah, bonds of blokes.
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: I mean, I think they got to want to do it.
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: I just I think it's people want to just put
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: players into coaching roles and it's such a grind. It's
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: probably even more of a grind for the coaches than
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: it is for the players. And you know, I would
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: imagine someone like Brian Hoy or everybody wants to make
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: the QB coaching. It's probably more appealing to him to
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: be a player and not have to put in all
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: the extra hours that you know coaches do. But you
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: know that, said West Welker, he's been you know, coaching.
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: I mean, I would you never turn those guys down.
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: But they got to want to do it. They got
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: to be invested to pay that kind of time in
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: to be a coach. It's just like that's you know,
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: a nightmare. Man. You see some of these older scouting
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: assistants that come in and like, oh, they made a
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: new hire on the staff, and you're like, oh, who's
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: this guy? And it's like a guy who looks like
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: he's in his mid forties. I'm like, oh my god,
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: you know he's you know resetting. I mean even Bill O'Brien, right,
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: he came here kind of late as like an assistant.
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: He had coached. Um it was an offensive cord and
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: it was probably here in eighteen hours a day, you know,
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: doing those things. Like I'm not a big advocate of
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: you know, you got to get some of the ex
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: players and making coaches. I think some of them that
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: want to do it, and they do it, that's fine.
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: Like Troy Brown is on the staff here, Wes Welker
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: is a wide receivers coach. You know, Gerard Mayo is
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: an ex player. But I don't need all the guys
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: that are coaching to be guys that I watch play. Yeah,
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: I don't. I don't need that. I think it's appealing
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: to have fresh set of eyes and and you know, different,
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: different scheme, attic input rather than just everybody who ran
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: Josh McDaniel's offense. Sometime in the last ten years a
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: couple of emailers. Speed is among them and Josh and turners.
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: Fall says that Chris Shime is Andy's new co host. Oh,
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: that's one of the producers. Shim Time's going around. I
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: know Chris, I know who he is. I don't really
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: know him. I really don't know how Matt Morrell doesn't
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: have his own show yet because that's radio producers or
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: do the door cast. Everyone who produced wants the host.
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: Everyone who wants the host wants to I don't know
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: host dance. When you get to be a host, you
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: don't ever leaves job in the world. Okay, I'm just kidding.
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: One more email, Reno writes in I was wondering why
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: we haven't heard anything about Trey Flowers, not just for
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: us but in general. Also with what Kraft said this morning.
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: Do you think Belichick will be on the hot seat
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: if we don't win a playoff game? No, but I
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: think he could be in trouble if they have a
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: disastrous year. Yeah, like if they won like four games
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: and it just looked like a mass I could see
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: Robert saying, what are we doing? But no, if they
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: don't make it, they don't win a playoff game, I mean,
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: Fred doesn't, I mean, this isn't even a shot. And
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: I didn't say this once the whole show. You don't
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: think they're going to be in the hunt. So I
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: don't see how you could at this moment, right right
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: at this moment, I don't see how you could then
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: turn around and say he needs to be fired if
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: they don't win a playoff game and you don't even
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: think they're gonna be in the hunt. No, of course, not,
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: of course, not, of course not. I don't know about you. This,
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: This is a controversial. You might laugh at this, but
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: it's just football, and Bill knows football I think he
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: knows a little bit thick. He knows football. You might
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: laugh at that, Mike, and in places where you don't
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: talk about at parties. Why are you both pointing at
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: me because you seem to have checked out trying to
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: get you back in. It seem like you're trying to
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: pull me to your side, just like lost all is.
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: And so I'm just clearing this the new eight team. Yeah,
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: that's right here, this is the show. Yeah, sorry, Eric,
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: you're up about the skies. He'll be all crying in
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: this pillar. I don't think it's tiny. More time to
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: do travel stuff. Word. Yeah, all right. That's gonna be
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be back
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: Thursday with another show. Who knows what news will happen
