- 0:00SPEAKER_00: I'm going to get into a little bit of the fat of things.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: And talking about workouts and motivation, I talk to people frequently that are battling that problem that a lot of us seem to have, and that's that obesity epidemic and being completely fat.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Depending on how you were raised, how long that's been, maybe you've been dealing with this all your life, and here you are in your 50s, 60s, or 70s, and you're starting to be told you need to do something instead of getting to do something.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: And that is a big difference when a doctor is telling you you better do it or you're going to croak versus you making the decision yourself.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: But either way, if a decision has to be made, that might be something you want to consider.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: That brings me to today's topic talking about what happens when you join a gym or you want to start to work out, or is that even a necessary part of the process?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Most of the reason why gyms really make sense to a lot of people is because you have the motivation, you have other people there, hopefully with the same goals, and they're doing workouts so you get there and then you feel motivated.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you, if that's what you need for motivation, it's just like in real estate.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: A lot of real estate coaches out there, they really pride themselves on keeping their clients motivated to want to go out there and make money and to pay their bills.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking of that in a much different respect because if you have to be motivated to do something in order to pay your bills, I don't know if that's really the best place for you to be.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: You might have a different, more dramatic problem to deal with.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: If you want to do something, you should be able to do it, of course, with the proper guidance.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: If you're banging your head up against the wall and that's not the right way to get rid of the headache, maybe somebody should tell you, hey, you're not you banging your head against the wall isn't going to do it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you as far as eating goes, there's five things that you should be eating, and really nothing else.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: You should be eating meat, you should be eating eggs, you should be eating fish, you should be eating vegetables and some fruits.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: That's really it.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: All the additives, all those extra ingredients that are in the processed foods, packaged foods at the supermarket, bags of chips, coke, all of those things.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Pull back just a little bit.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Are those really the best thing for you?
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: And then, of course, yes, you're going to miss them.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Yes, you might develop some kind of an emotional attachment with these types of foods because I remember eating them.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, they're wonderful.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: They seem to solve all the world's problems till they didn't, till I started putting on more and more fat over time.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And this started when I was a kid.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: I was able to have some victories in my lifespan.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: To become a cop, I had to shave off a lot of fat to get into that regard.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: But again, there was nothing that ever lasted like it lasts now.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Something I will say.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: That gym thing, going to the gym, yes, that's great.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's important.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: But I'd venture to tell you that you could probably get a whole lot healthier by just grabbing a couple dumbbells at Walmart or at the store and coming home and just working out with them.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: There's probably a lot that would happen, but again, you need to be self-motivated, which if you are thinking about this for the umpteenth time, thinking about, you know what, I really need to get this off because my doctor's saying I need to get this off, or I'm really just tired of not being able to tie my own shoes because my fat belly's in the way.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: And I was there, folks.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: I had to do all sorts of unusual movements to be able to tie my shoes.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Wearing jeans, ha, sweatpants were my thing.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: And that it's nice to be able to make the selection, but still be able to wear jeans, because I still wear a lot of those types of pants as well.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: But it's nice to be able to have the choice instead of being forced to.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: I remember going on a listing appointment a long time ago.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: I was at my fattest, and I had to go to Walmart and I had to buy Dickies that had a 64-inch waist.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: And yes, they make them and they were tight.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And it was odd looking at myself in these pants because the pant legs didn't get smaller at the end.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: They just kind of hung down.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: So it was like they were dangling around my ankle and my leg inside the pant leg.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: And I remember that specifically, and then I also remember being at the listing appointment being so incredibly uncomfortable.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I was dripping with sweat.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: It wasn't even a hot day, and I'm here trying to breathe, which was also difficult at that weight, 365 pounds.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: And I was trying to tell these people that, hey, I'm a great choice in real estate.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: These are the things that I'm going to do.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: And the whole time, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking, it was like an outer body experience.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, these people, they're looking at me like I'm some overstuffed Santa Claus.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: And I had a hard time breathing and those sorts of things.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: It's all of those events I reflect on today, thankful because a majority of the reason I was in that mess was that autopilot scenario that I know we all get into.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: I was talking to a client the other day.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: He was mentioning to me that he had, he he really only eats once a day.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: That's what he said.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: And I said, Well, that's probably where I would start you if you were asking for unsolicited advice.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: I would say one meal a day would probably be good.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: And try to control that meal a little bit.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: You don't got to blow it out.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: But if you're capable of once a day, and then he followed up with, Well, you have problems with snacking.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: I said, snacking.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: He said, Well, you snacking, not the meals, right?
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Because that's only once a day, but you have things throughout the day.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And I say, brother, you're that those are each one of the that's a meal.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: That's calories in.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Your body never gets a chance to take a break.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: And there's something to be said about the break.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Breaks are for for health-wise, for longevity, giving yourself a break between meals, oh my God, it's fabulous.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: But I told him, I said, Well, that's not what I'm talking about.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Don't snack or don't have anything up until the time that you eat that meal.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: And then don't eat anything again till the next day, till it's time for uh that meal time, whenever that happens to be.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: And there's also other types of fasts.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: There's 18.6, you know.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: What worries me about that being a food addict myself, what worries about me is the 18-6 means this.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: You have 18 hours of not eating anything, then you have six hours of eating.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Well, in my brain, as an addict, oh my God, I'm gonna blow it out in those six hours because I just went 18 whole hours without eating anything, which normally I would sleep six or seven, get up and then eat something right away because the historically they say that that's how you keep your metabolism up.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: So if you don't eat in the morning, you're gonna crash your metabolism.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Folks, if you look at the studies on that and you look at the way fasting works, when you fast, you actually increase your metabolism.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: So don't fall for that line of malarkey that has been posted out there and everybody seems to live by.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: But with those breaks, usually I would say if you're gonna do this not eating until the next day and only have one meal, then go ahead and make that meal edible within an hour and don't make it a challenge to try to eat everything you can within the hour.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: In addition, earlier, you know, I was talking about the gym and working out and motivation.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: I went into an auto parts store the other day.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: I don't have a car under warranty, all that fancy stuff.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: So I went to the auto parts store the other day trying to get a battery because the battery was done.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: And I was talking to the guys, and you're asking me things, and that's kind of a weird, odd thing because I haven't been fit for that long, maybe three or four years now.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: But it's still weird when people are asking me, oh my God, how old are you?
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: What are you doing?
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: This and that.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: And so I tell them, you know, I fast and how I live my lifestyle.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: And they say, Well, do you go to the gym?
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: And I say, Well, no, I I I work out, I'm YouTube at home muscle.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: I'm all about doing things at home.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: And they say, Oh, well, you need the gym.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: And you know, these guys are telling me I need the gym, and that's that's fine, but that's in the brain, right?
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: That's been baked in.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: They're under the belief system that's you need the gym to lose weight.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Realistically, folks, the abdominals, those muscles that you can see, maybe you haven't in a long time, maybe you never have, but they're under there.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: They're in there.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Those aren't made by going to the gym, those are made by what you're eating.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: That's where the leanness comes from.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: The gym is important.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Working out is important to maintain the muscle, to keep the muscle that you have, and hopefully build more muscle, because muscle is definitely metabolically superior to fat, and muscle is functional.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: You can do things with muscle.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: You're in a parking lot late at night and you get jumped.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Muscle helps those situations.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: You're trying to live, you fall off the couch.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: If you have muscle, it helps those situations.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Usually those bone breaks later on, late in life, those are life killers.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Those are life enders when that happens.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: But if you're able to maintain that muscle, build it, and just try to keep as much as possible, you're really doing a great job.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: That's where the muscle and the working out comes in.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: And talking about that, like I mentioned in the beginning, the biggest thing is just getting started.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of times I don't want to work out, I don't feel like it, I feel tired, or I say, you're gonna wait until later.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I'll wait until later this evening.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: You know what ends up happening?
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Something happens that I don't work out, and then I feel bad.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: So I've developed this idea that if I'm gonna say I'm gonna work out, I'm gonna go work out.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: And even if I don't feel like it, I'm still gonna go start.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I'll pick up a couple dumbbells and I'll start doing something.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Lo and behold, within a few minutes, my mind switches off not wanting to to getting into it a little bit more.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: And then all of a sudden I'm doing a full workout and everything's just perfect.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: You just gotta force yourself to pick it up and start doing that action.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: So then you can start and continue the workout.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: That's a big part.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: If you're gonna commit to walking every day, which I would definitely recommend, do something other than changing your diet.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Try to do something else because they kind of go hand in hand.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: It's not that the walking is gonna lean you out and and make you all beautifully grainy and ripped and build all this muscle, but the walking is a component of you taking care of yourself, as the diet and you're eating is a component of you taking care of yourself.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: It's basically you loving yourself, you caring about yourself enough to start a program and stick with it.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: What happens when you screw it up?
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: What happens when you go to that party that you really didn't plan for and you drink alcohol when you didn't want to, or when you eat those donuts or croissants or pizza or whatever they have that's the most delectable food in the world that you didn't expect to do, then you start immediately once you realize your sin.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Once you realize you did it, just like Christianity, when you make a sin, when you commit a sin, you're supposed to immediately rebound.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: So basically you confess that sin and then you move on.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: That's how you're supposed to do it.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Well, at least in the way that I understand Christianity.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Correct me if I'm wrong.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: But it's the same way in the world, when you're fat and you're have a plan and you want to start to do things to try to get less fat and get rid of it, then the answer to the question is just stop immediately and move on with your plan.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Immediately.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: Don't let it go a day, don't let it go two days.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: Don't think at that moment, my God, I've already messed up.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: God, I've messed up so many times in the past.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: And brothers and sisters, you're talking to somebody that's messed up thousands of times.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Quitting smoking, oh my God, how many times that took.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Quitting chewing tobacco, oh, thousands of times.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Quitting alcohol, oh my God, I was gonna quit every time I got done drinking.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: And eating food, eating the crappy food, again, still a battle.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Fasting helps me keep that in check until I beat that demon.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: And then fasting is also good.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: But that's that's that checks and balances.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: That doesn't give you an excuse to go out and blow it out and then go on a long fast, which would probably do you really well, but that's not the excuse because you're not changing that addictive quality.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Fasting now for me has been fantastic.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: I've been dry for almost two days now.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: That means no liquid, no food, nothing like that.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: That's a much more advanced style of fasting, but I like the way it makes me feel, and it really does justice to me.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: But again, before you do any of this, check with your doctor.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: There's the disclaimer, check with your medical professional.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: I'm not a dietitian.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: I'm just a cat that torched off 135 pounds of body fat in about seven and a half months using fisting, fasting, and doing that muscle building workout.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of things you can do with a couple dumbbells.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of things you can do with a couple bottles of water as far as lifting, pushing, giving yourself some kind of resistance.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: And if it's been a long time since you've done anything like that, trust me, you're gonna be sore the next day.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Work through it and just continue.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: After a week or two, you probably won't be sore anymore.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Just continue that process.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: A lot of times when people get sore, they shut down and they stop.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: My suggestion is when you get sore, just work through it.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I'm not talking about lifting even heavier weights and pulling muscle and doing crazy stuff, ending up in some kind of surgery because you've separated your ACL or something like that.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying you're not gonna go in there and do some Olympic lifting.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: You're just gonna grab a couple water bottles or a couple heavy books and lift them over your head until you can't lift them anymore, and then curl them until you can't curl them anymore.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: And maybe do some tricep extensions over your head until you can't do tricep extensions anymore.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Those sorts of things.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: So be good to yourselves.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: Love yourselves.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: Understand that these processes take time, but by you identifying the sin and then starting again, you'll be able to make incredible strides.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Again, love yourself.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I'm Connor with Honor.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: We'll see you in the next one.
