- 0:53SPEAKER_03: We are without Brendan uh today.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: He's still living the life out in the US, struggling to minus 5.5 or whatever it is for his time zones.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: So it's just me and Yupe.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: How are you, Yup?
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I'm good.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: I'm good.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I I've I've been uh ill over the weekend.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Uh I did play, like I was very proud of myself that I actually uh because I I was throwing up all morning on Saturday, still decided to play throwing up all Saturday night.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Uh went to bed straight after the game.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: I was in bed at uh at uh like six or five five thirty, which is like the record for me.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, but we survived.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: It was an insane game.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Like against HDM, HDM got up 5-1.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: They came back to 5-4, and eventually we won 6-4 when it shouldn't, when it should have never been this close.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: But uh, yeah, that's Orange Road in a nutshell this year.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Uh, but uh yeah, doing uh fine.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: How are you, Philly?
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: You had an MJ flu game, a classic.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: What would have been good is if you'd if you'd have been, you know, like they could have done the all the the camera following you around, you sweat in, and then you score the winner to win six five.
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: That would have been amazing, wouldn't it?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: It was a game of ups and downs.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I I got I I my guy scored like I was cover marking a guy, or I wasn't marking a guy who scored who scored the 3-1.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Uh I got uh I got like I made a really, really like uh like uh uh the third division tackle, missed the tackle, they scored a 5-2 or something.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: I also gave like a made like an action for my own 23.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Uh passed two guys and gave a backhand over 50 yards and someone's foreigned into the circle.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Um, like it was ups and downs.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: It was it was definitely a flu game, but I don't know if it if it like if it's close to like what MJ did.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: That sounds like a 2017 Yup de Mall game.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: Or 2017 Brendan Krieg game.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: On the ball, it was a bit better than 2017 Brendan Krieg.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Off the ball, it was definitely 2017 Yub de Mol.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Like not focused, not sharp.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Like I was I was worrying more about uh whether I could survive the game.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Uh for the first time, I think in seven years I asked for a substitute at a certain point because I was dead fucked.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Uh I I I had to shit at half time, uh, and I was pissing out of my ass.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Uh I I threw up uh straight after the game, like it was terrible, but I survived.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: Oh, flu games are great fun, aren't they?
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: Getting ill, doing it.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: I yeah, you just can't write it.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: This well, it's a I remember when we were at the World Cup in 2023 and we went over to Rokela, and we've documented well how nice a place Rokela was, but like six of us got ill instantly, but not in the way that you would think in India.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: Um, we we we all had problems with our chests, lungs, whatever it whatever it was.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: Um, I woke up on the first game to play Wales, I think it was, and like felt absolutely disgusting, like was like dizzy, couldn't stand up.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Kept telling our doctor who seemed mainly okay with everything.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: She's like, Yeah, you're all a bit ill, but no one's got a temperature.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: And I was like, Can you just check my temperature?
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: And ended up getting angry with her, and then she like did it and she was like, Oh yeah, that is quite a high temperature, right?
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: Okay, and I was like, then end up just drugging up.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: You try and hope that the adrenaline hits you at the right point, and then I just came off with like five minutes to go at the end of the game, and I just randomly cried, and I was like, That was looking back, that was like messed up when you like I was like shaking, and you were just like, What the f why why are we doing this to ourselves?
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: And I remember our coach came up to me before the game, and I thought he was gonna be like, take a break, ropes, you don't need to, you don't need to play, you like you you're alright, and he was just like, Drug up, we need you, and I was like, Oh god, yeah, it's it's always you you really want to before before the game because you're like, No, I'm not gonna skip games, not in me, whatever.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: And after the game, you're like, I maybe should have skipped this one.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: That was like my my thing.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Like, oh, I did, I did not have fun during the game.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: I did not.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: Like, you probably got that covered, haven't you?
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: You'd hope.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, Philip.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: No.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: We the one thing I'm sure of this season is we don't have anything covered, like not on the good, but not on the bad.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: So we can win every game.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: I'm convinced we could win against any team at any moment, but we could also lose against any team at any moment.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: It's a good place to be in.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Is your league uh any fun anymore?
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Because I feel like uh there's not a lot of competition for you guys, is there?
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Well, on paper, no.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Um your team bought half the league, right?
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: No one's left.
- 5:49SPEAKER_03: We're 10 games in.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: Um, we've won 10.
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: Um, I think we've scored over 50 goals now.
- 5:56SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, we we we're going strong.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: Um, we've uh funnily enough, I'm actually having so much fun.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: It's a it's it's really really good to be part of.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: Um the weekend was interesting.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: We played Serbiton, who are second, and um I would say definitely the the other best team in the league.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: Um, and we had a we had a classic niggly game a bit all over the place, and then we we just have um players like Alan, Forsyth, Sam Ward, Tom Carson, who are just natural born goal scorers, and they can do stuff for you.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: Um, and fortunately they did stuff for us.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: I was basically um running around the whole game, not touching the ball, and then I managed to have a good two minutes at the end and score a goal.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: So you know, happy days for me.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: But yeah, we've got Wimbledon last game of the year um before indoor and winter break.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: So hopefully we can go 11 from 11.
- 6:58SPEAKER_03: But from everyone else, I'm sure they hate us, and I I'm sure they do, because yeah, it can't be that fun.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: But we're having a good time.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, if you if you guys are having a good time, it's all fine, but um I can I can vouch for everyone else that you kind of kinda hated hated upon, I think.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: On that note, I know a lot of you guys, and I I like a lot of you guys individually, but as like a team and a club, you guys seem pretty dickish.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: There's so many people who are gonna love you just that little bit more for saying that.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, it's it's it's true.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: So yeah, moving on.
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: Some more news for you is that Mark Hagar has been appointed as a new Australian men's head coach.
- 7:38SPEAKER_03: Uh he's the former New Zealand women and GB women's coach and Australian, actually former brilliant player.
- 7:46SPEAKER_03: Um, what do you think of that, you?
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: Did you hear that yet?
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Um no, didn't hear about it.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: I also gotta be honest that I don't know him.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Um but that's I think that says way more about me than about him.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: But he was the former coach of GB.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: Uh women, yeah.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: And New Zealand men.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: New Zealand women, I think.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Well yeah, if you if you get if you get the head coach job of Australia men, I think uh you're in a good spot.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: I I kind of know they also approached Alison Annan.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: Uh uh, like uh uh a little bird told me.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: Um so I think I think that would have been a good one, but I don't think she's ready to do that yet.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Um or I that's my assumption about you.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: Just loving China and loving the money.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, shitload of money.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: I think she still lives in Holland and her kids still live in Holland.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: So I think that that that kind of makes it easier for her to like stay here and fly to uh China every once in a while.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I think she would have been great for them.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: I think she's one of the best coaches out there right now, uh, men's or women's.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Um but uh yeah, yeah, I I to be honest, I cannot really say a hell of a lot about him.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: To be honest, I also didn't know uh Colin Batch before he was the coach of uh Australia man.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Uh like I also didn't know Revington before he was called V GB man, so it again it says way more about me, but yeah, if I think Australia are due for a new coach, I think it was a good decision of the coach and from Australia to not continue because I think I feel like he's been there a while, and sometimes you kind of reach your uh yeah, how do you say it, your peak or your potential with the group?
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: And I think the same as Revington said at a certain point, there's only so much you can get out of a group, so I think it's a good uh good step from uh from Australia to like move on, and because it's a group with a with a lot of talent, a lot of potential.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: So, yeah.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: Well, what's this space?
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's gonna be interesting to see if he keeps on the old a lot of the old heads in the Australian men's team, but we will see.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I know already Ogilfe, Ogilvie quit, Charter quit, and uh who else?
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Someone else quit as well.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Did Oaken did Ogun do the or is he still going for another four years?
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: I think he wants the record, doesn't he?
- 10:00SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, watch this space.
- 10:06SPEAKER_03: We'll we'll follow up with that, I'm sure, uh, in in the coming months.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: Um, just before we get on to the world players, uh World Star Awards, which is always exciting to do.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: I thought I'd just quickly touch on the Hockey India League.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: We're seeing a lot of players being replaced already.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: Um, especially, well, obviously, overseas players being replaced.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: Is that a sign that they've underpaid the overseas players like this time?
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: Like from last time, looking through the figures, they paid a lot of money to a lot of players, uh, a lot of overseas players, and this time it looks like you know, guys aren't as willing to go out to India for seven weeks.
- 10:47SPEAKER_03: Is it yeah, has it been under incentivized?
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 100%.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: I think that's the only uh real uh reason, right?
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Like, let's be honest.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: I think no one wants to be seven weeks in uh Rukela for uh for for that that amount of money.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Uh I I feel like also it makes a difference whether it whether it would have been like the traveling circus it used to be, where you would go all around India, play different stadiums, different venue every week, uh traveling around hotels, this and that, or that you're seven weeks locked up in Rukela.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: I think that makes a big difference.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Uh, also that it's over Christmas and um um uh and New Year's also makes it it's like quite heavy.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: I know some players actually managed to get their coach crazy enough that they could come after Christmas, so they're there two days before the tournament starts.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Uh wow, but yeah, yeah, like like let's be honest, Jorit Kroon, Jonas de Goes, uh I can name the seven, those are the Dutch guys I know.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: Besides the fact that they're both like I was surprised they even uh subscrib uh uh subscribed that they even put their name down because they're both not really fit at the moment.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: So, how can you like that?
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: That being said, I also think if they would have gotten 50,000 euros, they would have probably battled through injury for if I'm honest.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: I do wonder if it's gonna change because, like you say, now it it goes from having you know loads of the best players in the world to to now like you know, coaches are scrambling around desperately um to find find the right person and see who's actually willing to go out for the lax for Christmas and New Year, which kind of is is not the point of the Hockey India League.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: They want to see the best overseas players with the best Indian players.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: So I'm kind of intrigued to see whether that might change in the in the in the next year and actually how it looks when it starts.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm actually what what I'm most curious about is I feel like I think a lot of teams give away two-year contracts.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: That it's not just a one-year deal, most teams from the two-year contract, but next year is a World Cup year.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: So next year, I think like a lot of players, like I know for a fact Holland players are not allowed to even go.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: So all the Dutch players that have been auctioned right now will probably not be auctioned next year.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think knowing GB will probably also not be not be uh uh able to go there.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Germany probably won't, Belgium probably won't, like what's left.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: So I feel like that's the big, the, the an even bigger issue.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Like now it's more a money thing, next year is more an availability thing, even.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: And last time, you know, with that, because there was so much money, I remember it like in 2015-2016.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: Um, because the guys were being so well paid, the you know, we had um Adam Dixon, Mark Gleghorn, um Ian Lewis, Nick Catlin, Ashley Jackson, Barry Middleton all were on really big, nice contracts.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: That because that money was so significant, you know, they almost had to make way for it.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: Now, you know, the the Federation and the players are not gonna push back, you know, if you're just saying, oh, it's just you know 10 lakh to to go out for a year before the World Cup, it just doesn't make any sense.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: So I think Indians are gonna have to look at that.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: They have obviously you know well paid their own, which is completely fine, but you you had to incentivize it enough for world-class players to want to go and impact the league and make the league great.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: Um, so it's like I guess disappointing to see that.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, true.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, I don't want to do it, but we have to do it because it's like the fourth year in a row we're doing it.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: But the world players got announced.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: Firstly, the positive news is that Yibi, who was on last episode, um, won, so like amazing news, and I think that's thoroughly deserved.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: Uh she yeah, she she uh she just just uh got uh Goo Bing Feng.
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: Uh she Yibi won 27.3% of the votes, and uh Goobing Feng won 26.8, so there's only 0.5% between winning and losing that one, which again is a bit mental, but still like fair play.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: We're we're very happy at Let's Tick together that Yibi won that award.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: Youped Mol.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: Sorry, Yupe, do you want to cut in?
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: No, no, go, go on, go on.
- 15:05SPEAKER_03: Our very own Yupd Moll came second in the world men's player of the year.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: So again, incredibly proud of our boy.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: He came second, not as close.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: Um Harman Priet won 63.8% of the the the votes uh you were second with 16.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: So yeah, maybe next year, mate.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: Maybe next year.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Oh, incredible.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's again I'm gonna pitch in right here.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna pitch in right here.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: I feel like this was the year though that Hammerprit did deserve it, to be honest.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: Like, I think the ridiculous thing is that it's the sixth time in a row an Indian player wins without winning any uh uh like real silverware in the last six years.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: They never won anything in the last six years besides Asia games.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: Um but they haven't won anything, and they still get up.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: I feel like Hammerpret was one of the most influential players for their team.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, I feel like Hammerpret was of a bigger impact for India than I was for Holland, or Cherry was for Holland in the last year, than Wallace was for GB, or then Müller was for uh for Germany.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: So I completely understand that he won it.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: It's more the fact that again an Indian player won than that he won it this year.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: Like, that's that's the only thing I want to like.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: I I was never in the uh for me, getting second was the highest possible thing for me to to to to get out of this, to be honest.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: So I was really, really happy, and I was even a bit surprised again.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Like, oh fucking hell, I ain't got second, uh, which was really cool.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I do want to give uh Harman Prit his flowers that he had he had a really good year, uh, and he is a really good hockey player.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: It's just the fact that it again it's India, uh, which makes it like really annoying.
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and and I agree, I think Harman Priet has been unbelievable.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: Like, not just the flicking, but like his outlaying, his skills.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: He plays like a like an over 35s player, yeah, and it's somehow no one can tackle him ever.
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: So like he is an unreal unbelievable player.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: I just fundamentally disagree with how the how they do the voting, how the how it's worked.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, I keep I I've read it before, but I still don't understand.
- 17:28SPEAKER_03: There's there's 20% fans, 20% media, national association vote, 20%.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Now I don't understand what that is because Harmon Prix got 15 points on that, and no one else got over two points.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: So I don't understand that.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: And then the expert panel count for 40%, but we've already clarified the expert panels aren't experts, um, and some of them don't turn up to the meetings.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: I've I I've come to believe that they are experts because it's the only category that I really got a lot of points in.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: So don't bash on the in on the experts.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Experts actually were very, very uh uh they they know a lot about hockey.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: Okay, sorry.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: Just for just they they do know, but just for the men's category.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: Um for everything else, they they're they're idiots.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it would it would be lovely if they maybe mixed that up, got some experts who were experts, they uh changed this national association because that seems like that is ridiculous.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, we can bitch about it as much as we want.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: We're we're very happy for you, but I'm really happy for you, but yeah, we we need I keep pondering this fact that if I could if I had the time and energy, I would make a completely neutral world player vote.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: Uh like because you know what the you know what the main issue is, and it's not like uh let's um I never thought I would even be nominated for something like this, so I so I always thought I could speak like completely unbiased about it.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Uh, because again, never thought I would be nominated for such a thing.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: So now would now now I will sound maybe a bit unbiased or like uh colored about it, but that fuck that.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: The thing that really annoys me is that this prize actually is like the coolest thing there is as an individual ath uh like a hockey player to win, and that it's lost all its like shine and all its glory, like like the Ballon d'Or with uh with football is like such a big event, such a big thing.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: If you win a ballon d'or, you're like an all-time legend and whatever.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: And I feel like now it's kind of lost its shine, and is everyone's no one is taking it serious anymore, but there's nothing else we can take serious for it.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: So, like in the time of the Neuer, the time of like Dwyer, who got it like five, five, six times in a row, same as like Dilo Messi got it eight times.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: It's like such a big thing, and now because and I like no Indian player or no can can help it, like it's not Hammaprid who who who who can help it, like and again, he had a really good year this year, so deservedly so.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: But even now, for him, it's lost all its credibility, and there's still like heaps of people who will say he didn't deserve it because they don't watch hockey and they say I'm six times an Indian.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: I got like we made the joke, or Cherim Bringman made the joke.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: We got like uh congratulations in our group set from the national team, and Cherim Bringman made the joke.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, yeah, thank you guys.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: You Piermen and me are are sending flowers to India already to congratulate Schrijfs and Hamaprit.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: And it ended up with that that they both won.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: So that says, like, and I think that's the whole thing.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: No one in the hockey world takes the price as serious as they should anymore.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: And again, I think they both because also Sri Jess had like a really good year.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: It's his last it's more of like a farewell prize to him.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Uh, like to be honest, Pymin last year didn't have his best year and won it.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: This year Pyman had the best year of his career and didn't win it, so that's like you could kind of stripe it away to each other.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: But like the thing is it it should get like such it should be such an honor and such a like an incredible thing.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: And again, if I would have won it this year, I would I would see it as this incredible honor and the biggest achievement as in as an individual in a team sport there is, but it's lost its credibility, and that's that's such a shame because it's such a cool product.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: Like you hope a Zach Wallace, uh uh out of Nona as well, but like Artur de Slover, uh uh in name six other guys who are like in the running for Jerry Brinkman, guys like that will end their career winning world player of the year once, and now it looks like it will never happen, and that's that's a shame.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, and and that's why I think that someone out there, I wish it was I wish it was me, I wish it was us, I wish it was someone out there needs to s needs to start this other award where we can make it completely unbiased and we can make it something that people can be know is completely neutral and uh you know it's not just someone, you know, the hard yeah, yeah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: We you've said it all.
- 22:01SPEAKER_03: We need something incredible to create something.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: Um, just to very quickly run through the others, young players.
- 22:07SPEAKER_03: Um, Sufyan Khan from Pakistan and Zoe Diaz from Argentina won the young players.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: Again, a bit disappointing that a male player won um that didn't compete on the biggest stage, didn't play in the Olympics, didn't play in the pro league.
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: Um, goalkeepers, you've already touched on this.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: Uh Shri Jesh won.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: And uh Yi Yao from China um won.
- 22:31SPEAKER_03: Uh coaches Alison Annan and Yourone Del May, I think they they got that bang on.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: Them two coaches had a hell of a year, and then umpires Sarah Wilson and Steve Rogers.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: And I actually also agree with that.
- 22:41SPEAKER_03: I think that Sarah Wilson and Steve Rogers are both top umpires.
- 22:44SPEAKER_03: So congratulations to everyone.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: Again, slightly disappointing to look at the breakdown of the voting, and hopefully, something may be done about it in the coming years to to make make the award credible again.
- 22:57SPEAKER_03: We are gonna take a break.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: We will be uh back in a second.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: And we're back, we're going straight for it, you're going we're gonna bring back overrated, underrated.
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, so I've come up with some names and I went to like the the in my opinion, top eight countries uh and took one player from it.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: So uh first one, overrated, underrated, is uh Victor Vanier Belgium.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: Well, so you saying the person, and I've got to say whether overrated or underrated.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I'll agree with this week because I've my it's not not something for me to have a strong opinion about something, but I'll I'll I'll come off the fence for once.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: Overrated.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so for me, the thing with him is is that he's been underrated for so long that he's actually starting to become overrated, if that makes sense.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Like he's been such a such a silent power for Belgium, like controlling the midfield, defending really well, covering a lot of ground, and he still does, but I feel like people are looking at him now as one of the best midfielders in the in the world.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Uh he got sold for like 40k at uh at the Hockey India League.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: Um, like I I still think he's he's in my like top 10 midfielders in the world right now, but I feel like people are judging him as like a top three, and I don't think he's dead.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: So I I kind of agree with you.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: I think he's a little bit overrated.
- 24:31SPEAKER_03: I I also not not sure I agree with the whole like he's gone under the radar.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: I think he's been like he like burst into the the the scene in like 2018 or whenever it was, and then well not under the radar, but like he was he was he was like I think no one would one of them people that people like push.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: It's like oh Victor Venier, he's is he's that guy, and I and I completely agree with he's still one of you know yeah, top, top 10, top 15 midfielders in the world, but like he isn't gonna dribble past seven guys, he's gonna do a really fucking good job in you know deep centre mid at just like spreading the ball around about yeah.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: I do think he was he is like that's between 2018 and 2021, where Belgium won everything there is, he was like a vital, like a crucial part in that team.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Control as you said, controlling.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: I think in Tokyo, for instance, I feel like um uh Artur de Slova, Kina and Vigne were the three best players of that team at that tournament, as in like they they they performed the best.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: So I feel like at that point Wigne was for me like one of the best midfields there was, but I feel like he's like not declined, but like he wasn't as influential as he was, so I feel like that's why he's gone a bit overrated.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: But again, guys won everything there is to win.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: It's still, I think I would love to have a manye in my team, so makes it up.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: But I feel like I I would I would like slightly go overrated, but like not a lot.
- 25:58SPEAKER_03: Do you know what's really interesting as well?
- 25:59SPEAKER_03: I don't know if we've made this point on the podcast, but like what's really hard, I think, about being what it's really hard about being trying to be world class every year on an international level, yeah, is that is that the first of all expectations, second of all, it's like people get used to playing you, you have to constantly evolve to try and constantly be effective and go with the game.
- 26:24SPEAKER_03: So, like just because you can burst onto a scene and you can see people do it all the time.
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: I even think it's happened a little bit with our good friend uh Tungle Tongle Camp, I can't say his name still.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: Tong yeah, Duco.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Like the way he burst onto the scene last year, and the way that he runs with you know with so much speed down the left, you even saw it a little bit in in Paris and the way that people defended him, he had to adapt and had to change the way he played.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: Now, I'm not saying he played badly, but I think he was less effective than when he burst on the scene and people didn't know who he was, so he just did his thing.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I feel like uh I don't know the exact words in in English, but like uh the thing that comes to mind is satisfaction, or is like people are are like uh are spoiled, people are a bit spoiled by someone, like some um like for me the best example is Auti van Doreen.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Like people are expecting him to be like every year to be like by far the best free man there is in the world, and I think to be honest, he still is.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Um, but because people have their standards so high on him that they kind of forget how good he is, like and most of the times, and I think Wigne is kind of similar, and because we were talking a lot of time now about Wigner, but like still, I think it's like funny to like think about it, is because he had such a couple of really good years that still the thing he things he does for Belgium are things we don't really see in the field.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Like, Ames is also a good example for it.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: You guys, you you know how good he is when you take him away, and I feel like Vigne is a bit a similar player.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: When you take him away, you kind of notice oh he cleans up a lot of shit in the midfield, and same with Artie van Dore.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's pretty nice to have someone who could like uh skip two lines at once with one pass and put a striker right in front of the goal or like take away so much garbage in the back.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: So I I feel like he's in that category for me, but I feel like, as you said, I think as a defensive midfielder, he's still one of the best there is, but like he's yeah, I think he's uh gone to slightly overrated while still being top top notch.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: Okay, second one.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: Um Kelnan played against him this weekend.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Uh Will is his first name?
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: Will Kellnan?
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, absolute top tier shithousery, but and we talked a lot about him in like the shithy uh front.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: I had a a little it was far from an altercation, it was just um uh I think he even he he like pushed the ball and it was in my on my upper leg and it came on my upper leg, and uh I yelled to the ref, it was high, it was high, and then I kind of acted like it hurt a lot, and then he was like, Oh, if it hurts so much, then sit on the ground and stop running, you knob, or something like that.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: So I thought it was really funny.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: I actually had a couple of laughs about it after the game.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: I like I like like like uh uh I done it hinked towards him, like oh it hurts so bad, but it was just like a push on my upper leg, but I had like a blue mark for it to show the revit was my upper leg.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: Uh but as a hockey player, where would you like is he overrated, underrated?
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: He's a really tricky is he even rated?
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: That's what I was gonna say.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: I think like in terms of like world hockey, I wouldn't say that people are discussing Cal that much, maybe.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: No, but but he's been he's been on every tournament there is.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Like, I feel like he never misses a tournament.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: He's he's he was at the Olympics, he was World Cup, he was at the uh European Cup.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: He's like a like a like a standard or like a like a guy who's always selected, but he's never really been discussed.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Like, is he overrated under it?
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: Like, I feel like he's really quick, but if you have if you ask me to describe him as a player, while I've played against him a lot, I couldn't really tell you.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Like he's like really quick.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: I know he's really quick, but he's not the most skillful guy.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: He scored a really good goal against us this weekend.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: But like, what is his like what's his USP?
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: I have no clue.
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: I think he's a moments guy.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: I think that's that's he has he has these uh crazy, amazing moments where he's he's lightning quick, he is he is an unpredictable player, so you never know what's coming.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: Like you say, he's not that skillful, he can pull out some outrageous skills.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: He has both really nice hits, both backhand and forehand.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: Um, but it's a very good question because I'd like to ask him the same thing.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: Like, who is who are you as a player?
- 30:41SPEAKER_03: He's he's somewhere in between, you know, he's an a number 10 in football.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: He's he's he's not the out and out striker, he's the guy who is who's trying to feed feed the strikers, he's trying to create stuff, and yeah, you know who he reminds me of a little bit, not not in in but like playing style, a bit like Christopher Ru.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like similar.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: I don't think like I'm I'm sorry, Will, you're not as good, but like similar like way he plays, and I feel like it's tough.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna go underrated because he's he's he's not talked about, so I think like he's better than that because he makes every selection, which you guys he must be some do doing well.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Like I yeah, he's also like not really.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: There's also a reason he's not really been spoken about, to be honest.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: And he has a he has an X factor.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: Cal has an X factor.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: There's so many elements to Cal.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: First of all, he's a he's a showman, an amazing teammate, a a guy who, like we've already talked about on this pod, can can get under anyone's skin possible, and then has these magic moments where he can you know change a game.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and probably agree.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: I think 90%, 95% of his players who've played against him hate him because he gets on his skin.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: I think I'm in the lucky few that actually love him.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: I'm a big fan of him because he's such a he's such a he's like so Mike my type of guy, like being being such a knob on the field, and actually being such like so big on shit.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: I like so yeah, he's a he's a good guy, but I don't know if he's that good of hockey player.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Okay, uh another interesting one, Tom Rambouch.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm starting to think he's underrated.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Exactly, yeah.
- 32:26SPEAKER_03: Thank you, Philip.
- 32:27SPEAKER_03: We we gave him so much shit, and a lot of people I think give him a lot of shit, and then he suddenly developed into this like really like really tough defender, like unbelievable out there, like calm player, and a decent flicker.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: And you're like, Yeah, I think we underrated him on our FIFA cards as well.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: I think I think we we we he's like like I wouldn't say criminally underrated, but he's like he was, I think, the best center back for Germany in the World Cup.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: He was calm.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: I think he's a complete idiot sometimes in the field, and I think he would even everyone would agree with me that he can be even himself that he can like sometimes lose his head and be very emotional, too emotional, and do really stupid shit.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: Uh funny shit, but stupid shit.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: But he is um he he was so solid at the Olympics defensively.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: He has the I think at this moment the best high ball in international hockey, as in it's always on point, it's always in space, it's always right right uh uh on on the money, and he's just solid.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: He never never really gives away the ball.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: He's not a runner, he won't he will not like change the game, but like really, really solid.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: So I think he's really underrated at the moment because of his like stupid antics.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: Agree.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: That's a good one, easy one.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: Move it on.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, easy one, but I uh easy one, but like a very forgettable one.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: So I think okay.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: Next one is um uh Casella, Casella from Argentina striker.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: You you you always his fabulous hair.
- 33:59SPEAKER_03: Underrated, first of all, underrated, yeah.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: I think so.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: I think mainly because like is he has he?
- 34:10SPEAKER_03: I don't know if he maybe it's just me.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: Maybe I'm living under a rock, but I don't hear about him that much.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: He's been a bit of a journeyman, like where he's gone around the clubs, but like every time I've played him, he's always like it seems like he has a bit of an all-round game, so he can do a bit of everything, he can drop into midfield, he can pick up the ball, beat players, he can pass it, he can score, he can drag flick.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: There's there's so many elements to him, and I always think he's been pretty consistently good.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: But I'm not saying that he's like the best striker in the world, but I think he's he's pretty top tier.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I I was like very uh lopsided or very uh I don't know, very in debate with myself about him as I wrote him down.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: I was like, yeah, he is, I think he's like Argentina's poster boy, if that makes sense.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: He's like if you talk about Argentina, you'll talk about Michael Cassel.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: I don't know if he's like he's like in the same as the likes of like Lucas Vila or uh or uh or Mazilli in his prime, and like he's like not on that level yet for me.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: He has a pretty good corner.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: Like I would love to have a guy like that at One Road, to be honest, because I feel like he has a great touch.
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Like, I also haven't really seen him change the game for Argentina that much, yeah.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: And like uh like Argentina hasn't really gotten into a semi-final ever since they won uh Olympic Gol to Rio.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: They like kind of always got out to the quarterfinals, never really gotten through, and I think that's his his like uh uh um team or his like generation.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: So that's why I would go a bit overrated, but like not as a player, but like it maybe it's also you cannot change the game by yourself, but like yeah, I don't know.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: I feel like he's they've they've also changed Argentina, haven't they?
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: Because they had the years of Lucas Villa and Mazzilli where they just got complete license to lose the ball, to to dribble every time they got it, and they could do incredible.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and get the corner and make Bayot score it, yeah.
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: And they could also lose the ball 20 times their game and no one would care because that was their game plan.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: Like now they're a bit different, but yeah, I I yeah, I still fair.
- 36:17SPEAKER_03: I think yeah, he's probably probably he's just properly rated, but I feel like you need to like get it out, and then he's the closer to have a different rating because because is under aid, overhead, properly rated, and like I would probably put him in properly rated, yeah.
- 36:34SPEAKER_03: He's about right.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: Fair.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: Then then another one guy who's who's not been talked about a lot, had a really good Olympics, Bastia, number 10 of Spain, corner guy.
- 36:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, is he is he the really fast guy?
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: Um no, he's like number 10, the circle striker.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: But that the that you don't know him makes me kind of feel like he's underrated.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: Because I feel like he's like a good striker for Spain, scores quite a lot of goals, has a lot of goals under his belt, has a pretty solid corner.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: Um, also not really talked about.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: Again, Spain has also like just come onto the scene, really, in the last uh couple years.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: Um always been like like best of the rest, a little bit, like out of the top, top six, seven.
- 37:21SPEAKER_00: I feel like he's like uh he's like a bit underrated.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: People don't talk about him, and I feel like he's a good circle striker, it's like has a good shot, has a corner, it's like a bit of a type of uh Sem Lane uh Benerecht uh type of player.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm I'm I'm not even to be honest with you.
- 37:38SPEAKER_03: I know who you're talking about, but I can't remember him doing anything good um or like really hearing about him that much.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna struggle to give you anything.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: There is one Spanish guy which I'm gonna come back to you next week with his name because at the Olympics he was rapid and really skillful, and he shat on about five of us in the game we played against him.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: I think I know what you mean, and but he's really small, right?
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no, no.
- 38:04SPEAKER_03: It's not uh it's not um yeah, number 99.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: Villa Longa, Villa Longa.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Villa Longa.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: It's not him.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: He's he's an interesting, he's an interesting character.
- 38:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he just does just dribble every time.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: There's this big guy who's fast, and he he suddenly just came out of nowhere.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: And our defensive coach after the game was like, Why are we defending so badly?
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: And then every clip was him roasting another one of us, and we got to the end of the meeting, and we were like, Maybe it's just that guy, maybe he had the game of his life, like give us a break, like what we're meant to do.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: Like he pulled out some outrageous skill.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: And our coach is like, sort it out.
- 38:39SPEAKER_03: You're like, Yeah, we are playing against some of some pretty good players here.
- 38:43SPEAKER_03: Sometimes you got a call spade spade, yeah.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: Fair.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: Um, fair.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: It's always when you play India that you get like these these, yeah, you should keep them in front of you.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Yeah, I know I should, but this guy just had the most amazing right foot dribble, and I'm not that quick on my feet to like I know he's going to drag it inside, but yeah, like iron rubber.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: You know he's dragging it inside, you just don't know when, and it's always going past you.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that is the problem.
- 39:08SPEAKER_03: There is at least, I mean, now I'm terrified every time.
- 39:11SPEAKER_03: If you're near is it uh Lalit, Lalit?
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Lalit is uh I don't I I I got sent by him.
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: I was still in the I was like on my way out of the stadium last time I played him, so I was like, maybe I should leave and leave him alone anytime that I'm marking him.
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: I was like, Switch, switch.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: If an Indian player has his has his game, you you need to run go home.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: Um but there's an Indian player coming up.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: Um first Flores Middendorp overrated, underrated.
- 39:48SPEAKER_03: He's my type of player, so I'm probably gonna say underrated.
- 39:52SPEAKER_03: He's he's he just chose a load of underrated guys because like he's he's not he's come on the scene and he was like probably one of the guys, the last guys to get picked for the Olympics.
- 40:02SPEAKER_03: He like he was like number 16, number 15 for Holland, and then he's really good, he's got lovely hands, he knows how to play hockey, and he's yeah, yeah.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: I don't got too much bad to say about him.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: He's not like the best midfielder in the world, but he he is seriously a good hockey player.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: I feel like, and I'm gonna he has potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world, to be honest.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: He uh uh like I and I'm not I'm I'm completely biased because I train with him a lot.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: Uh he has I think the best hands in the uh that I've yeah, Jorid Krohn is also up there, but with which I have played with, like he has the ball on like uh like his right foot dribble, like left to right, is is the best I've seen.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know it's and you know it's coming, but it's kind of it's really tough to defend because you like as I said it's with Ayan Robbe, you know he's dragging it to his left foot, but he still he always got past people, and that's the same with with with him a little bit.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: You know the right foot dribble is coming, but he kind of always gets past people.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Um, I think he needs to for him to be like because I feel like he's kind of probably rated, as you said.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: I think he was um a fringe guy for the Olympics, but on the other hand, he did really he did like well at the Olympics, uh and um and the spot he was up for was like very uh heavily um positioned, as in there was there were a lot of players for his like position, so that's why he was like a fringe fringe guy to be like I couldn't I don't know how Youn Delme thought, but like up front you thought he was like competing with other guys for that position.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Um but the thing he needs to develop, I think it's a bit the same as Wallace had a couple years ago.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: That to really be like a like make a step is needs his like his rendement, like his rendement, I don't know the word in English, like his um uh what he gets out of action, yeah.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: But also what he needs what he gets out of actions, so like assists, goals, corners.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: If that goes up a little bit, so that he scores more goals, that he gets more corners, involved gets more involved in goal scoring and shit.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: I think he will like take a leap, he will get more onto the scene.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: It's it's so new that that it comes back to my original point about like when people are gonna play gonna be playing him the the third, fourth, fifth time.
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: Can he consistently adapt and play and still impact games?
- 42:22SPEAKER_03: Because that is something that I just think is so hard to do, and why like second it's almost like what what do you call it, like the second year in the football Premier League?
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: Like people get you seeing like a tricky second season, and also he isn't yet playing on his favorite position.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: I think his favorite position is central midfield, and he's now playing more as like on the sides, as like a high uh like a like a winger almost.
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I think his like priority or his best position is like it's as a central midfield, like a not a controlling midfield, but like a box-to-box midfielder.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I think it's it's tough to give him like an over underrated yet, because I don't think he's like, as you said, it's like a good thing of good good a good thing, Philip.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: Is that there are some guys that have not really been rated yet?
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I think like he's like one of the up-and-coming guys.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, next one is uh Hadik.
- 43:12SPEAKER_00: He's he's um properly rated.
- 43:16SPEAKER_02: I think, in my opinion, Hadik was by far the best midfielder in the Olympics.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: He was we gave him shit for winning world player of the year.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: I completely got it if he would have gotten it this year.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: He was insane at the Olympics.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: Like this, I'm sorry for this.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: I don't want to like uh open up old wounds, but the game he played against you guys made it what insane.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I'm I'm like I don't like uh I think he he was very overrated last year, but he actually made a leap towards underrated.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: I don't think a lot of players have done that.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: Um I feel like he's like very underrated right now.
- 43:58SPEAKER_03: No, he's not he's not underrated because.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: People like know him now.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: Oh, fair.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: Now they know.
- 44:02SPEAKER_03: And he know and and they know him.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: And then everyone's been like, okay, you're really good.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: And I agree.
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: Like his whole Olympics was insane.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: Okay, and then okay, and then and then uh I've I have two more three more.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: Three more.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just really quickly because but we'll go very quickly over it.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: One is uh uh one is Ephrance, Australia, yeah, underrated, easy, yeah.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Underrated as well.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: I feel that he's done doing really well at Bloomadell, scores a lot of goals, like tough to defend.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: So I I agree.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm gonna shoot myself here.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: You've the mall got him to the point where he's overrated.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: I officially 100% you're overrated now.
- 44:44SPEAKER_02: I've officially become overrated.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: You've gone, you've gone, you've done, you've done whole circle.
- 44:50SPEAKER_03: You've gone 100%, you were underrated in 2023, and now you're overrated.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: Second best player in the world, mate.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: You've got to be overrated.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: Like, what what else can you be?
- 45:01SPEAKER_03: It's official.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: You're you're the most official overrated player we've had talked about so far.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: Besides John John Doma and 2023 Hardik, I'm the most overrated player I think there is.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fair.
- 45:17SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I think we'll we'll leave it at that.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: I think that's a good good way to end it.
- 45:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean we only have one.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Is that we go in the coop?
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: Is either we go in the coop or we come up with my my idea, or we leave one of them for next year, next week.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: First, let me hear your idea, then I'll judge if it's like good enough to like skip the coop because I feel like people are like very eager for the coop.
- 45:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you basically just took control of overrated unrated for that to be your coop, so I should have made that.
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: But my idea is right, I've already talked about this on the pod, but I actually think this would be really fun.
- 45:52SPEAKER_03: Is that I want to get rid of corners because they're boring and no one likes them anymore.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: Um, I want to replace them.
- 46:02SPEAKER_03: Well, I've already said this all, but I'll just repeat it very quickly.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: Um, it's dangerous, uh, it's time wasting.
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: No one actually is interested anymore.
- 46:09SPEAKER_03: You can't flick it in the top corner hardly ever.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, we just spend 40 seconds round around again just putting corner kit on and then watching uh flicker flick it against the runner or flick it low between the pick keeper and the postman.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: It's boring.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Um if you win a corner, they draw a little circle about two feet by two feet at the top of the right at the top of the D and the person who wins the corner puts the ball in the spot and you get a free shot at the goalie.
- 46:43SPEAKER_03: You can have it forehand, backhand.
- 46:45SPEAKER_03: Um you can I don't know if you can roll it in or it just has to be dead.
- 46:50SPEAKER_03: Um but yeah, like I reckon, in my opinion, that would be way more entertaining than a corner.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: Less time consuming, more entertainment.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm after.
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: Like a free shot from top of the D.
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: So basically, I got this idea from OR.
- 47:08SPEAKER_03: When we played at OR and you won a corner, you had a shot from the top of the D.
- 47:11SPEAKER_03: But this would be more like rigid, so you can't like roll it in.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: It's like there is a circle.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you hit it, and it and it it instantly like I thought about it in funny ways.
- 47:23SPEAKER_03: In like, you know, you got a guy who winds up from five yards away and absolutely smash it over the bar, and you just imagine being like people absolutely loving it.
- 47:35SPEAKER_03: In the other, in the other thing is someone absolutely rigs it, or the keith makes an amazing save.
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: I think yeah, or like people chunk it, people like hit right in front of it, and it like rolls up to the goal, shit like that.
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: And uh, I just think that I'm on something.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: I feel like you're onto something here because I feel like as you said, I feel like I do think the penalty corner, that's that's my like thing before the penalty corner is that it's one is the identity of hockey a little bit.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: The people who don't watch hockey feel like that's what makes hockey stand out towards like other sports.
- 48:06SPEAKER_00: People know the penalty corner, and it creates heroes.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: So, like in Holland you have Takama, Yip Jansen, Mink van der Were, guys that like all young kids want to be like Yip Jansen, Yibby Jansen, uh like Maagje Palmer in Holland.
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: Uh the the the the the the Alexander Hendricks, those those are like make our sport bigger, and I feel like if you take away those, it like limits our sport a bit.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: So that's why I think there's a bigger reason to keep it on.
- 48:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do this call because as a hockey insider, I completely agree.
- 48:37SPEAKER_00: I think the penalty corners has become way too also it can decide games that you play shit, you get a penalty corner, some like big guy who can't play hockey flicks it in and it's end of the game.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just can you imagine the the the moment of you're in the final minute and you someone who can't hit the ball wins a corner, and you're like, Is it with or without a rebound?
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: No rebound.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's shit.
- 49:06SPEAKER_00: Or to add on it, you get a rebound, but it has to stay in the circle and it has to be first touch.
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, do you get the rebound, or is there more people no yourself?
- 49:15SPEAKER_00: You you can get a rebound, but you or you get like two touches in your rebound.
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: If it stays in the circle, you get two touches.
- 49:22SPEAKER_00: Shit, that'd be good as well.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: So if you hit the post, you get like another touch touch, and the goalie can come running out.
- 49:30SPEAKER_03: I just I pitched this to Amesy, knowing that normally he would he was the goalie, you have to stand on his line.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: Ooh, like it's really funny if the goalie is like as like he can stand up as not as close as he wants, but you make like a like a like a five meter or like six meters close, like away, like he can go halfway between you and the goal, so that you can also like lob him, like with handball, you know the penalty with handball?
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, you could like make the goalie so you can also like lob him.
- 50:01SPEAKER_03: It's it's multidimensional.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: We're talking about like you could be talking tactics for for hours about this, and then you could you could have so many guys at at the end of training being like, My shot is terrible.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: I need to.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: What in what if I win a corner?
- 50:15SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna have to hit the ball, yeah.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: Or don't don't come near the circle of 23 because you you they they will just like uh foul you uh on purpose, like with a Hakishack.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: Hackershak they will foul someone on purpose because they know you can't hit.
- 50:37SPEAKER_03: Oh, who would be Hackish?
- 50:39SPEAKER_03: Who that's a great question.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: Oh who can't oh I know I know a couple guys on the top of my head.
- 50:48SPEAKER_03: Nick Park, I'm sorry, mate.
- 50:49SPEAKER_03: You'd be happy.
- 50:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a shit shot.
- 50:52SPEAKER_03: He said he's he says he's a full-time deliverer now.
- 50:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's got a nice strike, low far post.
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's good to know.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, there's also a couple guys like if Cherry Brinkman, I think he would score a shitload of goals if he would because he would just he would not hit it like top corner, he would just everything like like poof, like bottom corner, poof, bottom corner.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: I feel I would be the kind of player who could like hit one crossbar and in, or who could hit it like on two pitches over, and I would also be the guy to fed it once, or like a back stick with my back end, you know.
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, want to hit it like like like you do with like your driver.
- 51:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, I wanted to hit it too hard.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: That I would be that guy backhand.
- 51:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, I went to hit it so hard.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Back stick.
- 51:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, and I love this guy, but I'd foul Savvy Van Ass.
- 51:41SPEAKER_03: I'd I'd I'd I'd hack him.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: Has a better shot than you think.
- 51:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm sure he probably does.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: It just seems like he'd stroke it to like he'd he'd he'd just like be like just smooth, but it wouldn't go in.
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: I'd 100% be that guy as well, where like we're like five times, it'd probably go quite well for me.
- 52:01SPEAKER_03: The other five, I'm obviously reverse sticking it, it just goes straight over the bar.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: I feel like that there would also be some guys who would slap it.
- 52:09SPEAKER_00: Like uh, like I'd make that illegal.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: Artur van Dorro would like slap it.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: I feel like he has a good shop.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: You could like have enough power to slap it in.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: Who would slide it?
- 52:18SPEAKER_00: Who would do a slider?
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but that's not possible because you only have like two feet in.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, true.
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: Be illegal.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: So that would be illegal.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: Ah, would be so many.
- 52:28SPEAKER_00: I think what would be like a complete danger to go to is if Yale Galama had to hit.
- 52:34SPEAKER_00: Guy has the most uncontrollably hard hit I've seen, but like for one reason or another, every training, one or one one shot of him of his goes into the ball sack of the goalie.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: I tell you who else, Liam Ansel, he would be absolutely terrifying if you were the if you were a key.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: There's always this guy, yeah.
- 52:53SPEAKER_00: There's always this guy who shot shoots it like Duco Terracomp as well.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: He shoots it so uncontrollably hard, and then you have to do an exercise, and you're already counting, you have to be at the second post and you're already looking.
- 53:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, who has to hit for me?
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: Oh fuck, it's it's Duco Terco Company.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: You know the ball is coming at 200 miles an hour to watch your head at one point in the exercise.
- 53:14SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 53:14SPEAKER_03: We're gonna we're gonna have to postpone you and the the coop and you're fair.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: I think this was a good coop, a good, a good like alternate coop.
- 53:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, I mean, guys, we don't talk to you very often anymore, but listeners, like, what do you think of my idea?
- 53:26SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm really excited about it.
- 53:28SPEAKER_03: I've I've pitched it to a couple of guys, and I'm thinking I'm gonna get shot down, and even Yup hasn't shot me down, so I'm pretty, I'm pretty uh pretty optimistic.
- 53:35SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna be sending my letter to the FIH later on in the year.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: Um, but this has been episode four of Let's Stick Together season seven, uh brought to you by Y1.
- 54:10SPEAKER_03: Um, hopefully we can get Brendan um if he answers us, if he answers his phone.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: Uh let us know if you miss Brendan, because we we kind of miss him, but he's not he's not really maybe you guys need to get him back.
- 54:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, can anyone message message Brendan?
- 54:24SPEAKER_03: Tell him that we record sometimes, just hit us up.
- 54:28SPEAKER_03: Alright, this has been Let's Dick Together.
- 54:31SPEAKER_03: See you next time.
- 54:33SPEAKER_02: Cheerio!
