- 0:02The average millionaire has seven income streams. That stat is everywhere. On Instagram and podcasts, TikTok captions, and it's made millions of women feel like they're falling behind because they only have one.
- 0:17Here's what nobody tells you. Those seven streams, they didn't build them all at once. They built one. That one funded the next, and the next funded the others.
- 0:28Today, I'm breaking down how income stacking actually works and why the way you're already managing your household is the exact skill set you need to do it.
- 0:41This is Mom's Money Talk, and I'm Ellie Ezra, the mom talking money like no one ever did for you. This is for the woman who's done managing money and ready to run her life like a business.
- 0:51I'm not a financial advisor, but I've built companies, sat in rooms with investors, and learned how money actually works. And here's the truth. You don't have a money problem. You have a systems problem.
- 1:02This isn't about budgeting harder or cutting lattes. It's about spending with intention, building assets, and thinking like the CFO of your household.
- 1:11Because if you're a mom, you're already running a business, the business of the home. So I'm giving you the playbook, one that makes your life feel lighter, not heavier. So what's the myth?
- 1:21Well, according to a 2023 Bankrate survey, 39% of Americans have a secondary business. The median monthly income from that secondary business, $810. Okay, that's not financial freedom, but that's a car payment.
- 1:38And yet the advice keeps coming. Get a side hustle. Start another business. Stack more. Here's what's actually happening.
- 1:45We are running three income attempts, burning out, making $400 a month across all of them, and wondering why we still feel broke. The problem isn't that we're not working hard enough. The problem is we skipped step one.
- 2:00Wealthy people don't have seven income streams because they hustle harder. They have seven income streams because they built one thing well first. And then that one thing created the leverage to build the others.
- 2:14The sequence matters. You don't diversify from zero. You build from one. Here's the thing. You already understand income stacking as a mom. You just haven't applied it to money yet.
- 2:27Think about how you manage your household in general. You know, you don't optimize every single expense category at the same time. You pick the biggest leak, you fix it, you move to the next. You sequence it.
- 2:39You prioritize. That's exactly what smart income stacking looks like. You also know that not all of your kids' activities give equal return. Soccer has a social benefit. Piano has the discipline.
- 2:52You evaluate and allocate. That's portfolio thinking. The only difference is wealthy people do this with income streams and now so will you. There are three types of income. You need all three.
- 3:06But in order, active income is time for money. Your job. Freelance work. Consulting. You stop, it stops. This is where everyone starts.
- 3:18Leveraged income is when your time creates something that earns beyond the hours you put in. You write a guide once, it sells 200 times. You build a course, it runs while you sleep.
- 3:29Passive income is when your money or assets earn without you. Rental properties, dividends, royalties. Most people try to jump straight to passive.
- 3:38That's like trying to build a second floor before you've laid the foundation. The sequence is stabilize your active income first, then build one leveraged asset, then use that income to fund passive streams.
- 3:54Before you add any income stream, ask yourself one honest question. Do I have margin? This is what business owners do. Margin means time, energy, and mental bandwidth.
- 4:05If you're already running on empty, a side hustle or a business won't make you richer. It'll make you resentful. So here's the test. Is your primary income stable and growing?
- 4:18Do you have your safety fund, the three months of expenses saved just in case? Do you have five to 10 genuine hours a week without sacrificing sleep, your kids, or your sanity? If yes to all three, you're ready to stack.
- 4:34If no, the smarter move is to optimize what you have. A 10% raise at your current job? That's worth more than a side business that makes $200 a month that costs you 20 hours. So what's worth your time?
- 4:47What's worth building? Consulting or fractional work in your area of expertise? High hourly rate, low overhead. Love fractional. I've done it. It's a great way to give your expertise at a fraction of the time.
- 5:04Digital products. Love digital products. Templates, guides, mini courses. You build once, you sell forever. Content monetization. Podcast sponsorships. YouTube. Newsletters. Paid tiers.
- 5:18The more you can offer, the more people will pay for. Real estate. House hacking. Short-term rentals. You know, this requires capital, but it has strong returns. So if you're at that step, think about that.
- 5:32Indexed fund investing. So this is long-term and it's non-negotiable. You got to do this. You want this for the long term. But proceed with caution. I actually hate these MLM network marketing schemes.
- 5:45Most people lose money. The math never really works out. So just say no. Dropshipping. Super saturated. Lots of scams. There's low margin and you're spending a lot of time invested in learning how to do that.
- 6:02Passive income courses that cost more than they'll ever earn you back, be careful. Be careful. So the test, does this income stream require me to trade time indefinitely, or does it build an asset?
- 6:16If it's always time for money, it's not a stack, it's a second job. So what are some practical actions? Let's talk about three shifts. Shift one, run your income audit like a business owner.
- 6:29So think of this as your income SWOT analysis. List every income source you currently have or that you've tried, and label each one active, leveraged, or passive. For each one, ask, "What's the realistic revenue ceiling?
- 6:44What does it cost in time per dollar earned? Where's the biggest untapped upside?" This is your income P&L.
- 6:52You're not adding anything new into exactly what's already on the books and which line item has the most room to scale. Shift two, launch your first leveraged product like a startup.
- 7:06Identify one that others would pay to learn. Write a one-page business plan for it. What's the product? Who's the customer? What's the price point? Run the numbers. If you sold it to 10 people at $47, that's $470.
- 7:19At $97 to 20 people, that's $1,940. What does your break even look like? How many units do you need to sell to make it worth your time? And set your 30-day launch plan. Week one, validate the idea. Pre-sell.
- 7:35Week two, outline and build it. Week three, deliver and collect feedback. Week four, price it properly and open it up. You don't need a perfect product. You need a viable one. That's how real businesses start.
- 7:49So shift three, build your investment policy and then automate it. So every business has a reinvestment policy. We need one too. Decide your percentage now. 5%'s the floor, 10% solid, 20% aggressive. Then run the math.
- 8:05If your household income is $5,000 a month and you automate 10%, that's $500 a month, $6,000 a year compounding. In 10 years, let's say it's an average return of 7%. That's over $86,000 from just that one line item.
- 8:21So set up automatic transfer today. The stack earns it, the system keeps it. Because we're moms thinking about generational wealth and our kids and their kids, we are thinking long-term.
- 8:35I put together a free resource in the show notes, the Household CFO Starter Kit. It walks you through the income audit, the leverage opportunity finder, and the investment percentage calculator.
- 8:44Grab it, use it, start building your stack. This is Mom's Money Talk. I'm Ellie Ezra, and I'm here to remind you, you're not bad with money.
- 8:51You're probably running an entire household economy without enough support, language, or systems. So this week, spend smart, acquire assets, and run your household like the wealth-building machine it can be.
- 9:02Grab the free tool in the show notes, follow the show, and send this to a mom who's ready to stop budgeting crumbs and start owning the bakery. See you next time. [outro music]
