- 0:00The Nets lose their star player. They lose their star closer.
- 0:04The Nets are in a bad spot right now.
- 0:12I've never seen a Ranger team quick before the Olympics.
- 0:15We're going to be looking at Aaron Judge and saying that he
- 0:17can't win the big game, Michael Jordan said.
- 0:20I played 82 games. You don't see LeBron doing that,
- 0:23but Jack Hughes did after getting his teeth knocked out to
- 0:26play every single shift he got back in the game.

- 2:34The weather out here I I don't know it's every time I come on
- 2:38this show I'm trying to figure out is it going to be hot?
- 2:41Is it going to be cold? Is it going to be normal?
- 2:43Normal to me is about 40° and today it was normal.
- 2:47So as you can see, I'm wearing a nice short sleeve shirt and
- 2:50joining enjoying the weather and you know, I'm just enjoying
- 2:55everything that's going on. There's nothing really going on
- 2:57in sports. The Yankees get knocked out.
- 3:00I mean, knocked out by one run, one to nothing.
- 3:03We'll get into that a little bit later.
- 3:04Athletics beat the Yankees. The Yankees pitching has been
- 3:07superb, but they're not hitting timely as the Yankees have done
- 3:12this year in and year out. It's been a big problem for the
- 3:15New York Yankees finding a way to get contact on the ball, but
- 3:20we'll get into that a little bit later in the Show.
- 3:22Q What's up, man? What's going on, man?
- 3:25Yeah, the Yankees definitely took a hard loss for that ain't
- 3:28man. So I'm a little down about that.
- 3:30But other than that, man, that's a good Thursday.
- 3:33I'm ready to light you up. Get the fans what they came to
- 3:36see a massacre. And yeah, let's get to it, baby.
- 3:40Let's go. Light me up.
- 3:43What do you think this is like, you know, race or something?
- 3:46We're going into a, you know, a race car race, a NASCAR race or
- 3:50we're we're playing, we're actually playing in the Masters
- 3:53right now because Masters are going on right now and we have a
- 3:58good three days left. We got Friday, Saturday and
- 4:01Sunday to find out who are champions going to be.
- 4:04We'll get into that a little bit later.
- 4:06I, I'm not a golf fan, but I know there's a lot of fans out
- 4:09there that absolutely enjoy this time of year, especially the
- 4:14Masters. You have the US Open, tennis is
- 4:17right around the corner when the summer comes around.
- 4:19So I like the tennis. So with, with all the different
- 4:22big events in the big title games and, and what do they call
- 4:26the, the big majors? Majors.
- 4:28They're majors. Majors.
- 4:29Majors. So we're getting to the Masters
- 4:32a little bit later in the show. Tennis again, This is really the
- 4:36start of the tennis season. It's, it's like a couple of
- 4:39weeks away. And, and as the big, the big
- 4:42majors come around Wimbledon, which is in the summer, the US
- 4:45Open. So well, we, we will get into
- 4:47that as we move forward for the rest of the, the summertime.
- 4:52But anyways, Michigan wins the national championship.
- 4:55Michigan beat UConn 609063 to wing to win their first national
- 5:01championship since 1989. Michigan won despite shooting
- 5:05just two for 15 from three, including zero for their first
- 5:10eight shots. Despite their woes from three,
- 5:14Boy oh boy where they was. Michigan was brilliant at the at
- 5:17the free throw line, making 25 of 28 attempts.
- 5:21Both Terrace Reed and Alex Caraban finished with double
- 5:26double S for U Conn, but both solo ball and Braille and
- 5:31Mullins struggled shooting, especially with threes.
- 5:34Elliot Cadeau LED Michigan with 19 points in the game and was
- 5:39named the NCAA Tournaments Most Outstanding Player.
- 5:42Dusty May won his first national championship in his second year
- 5:47as the Michigan head coach, tied with former UConn head coach
- 5:51Kevin Ollie for the second fastest ever to win a title.
- 5:55The only one that was faster was Steve Fisher, who won and as an
- 6:00interim coach for Michigan in 1989, the Wolverines only other
- 6:05basketball championship until that.
- 6:07This year Michigan was not hitting threes.
- 6:09They were not shooting the ball very well.
- 6:11But UConn is not an offensive team.
- 6:13The problem going into the tournament was the questions.
- 6:16Can U Conn put enough points up against elite defensive teams?
- 6:21Elite teams if they expect to win a championship, But through
- 6:25through the tournament they play very well offensively.
- 6:28They had unlikely sources coming from offensive, offensive
- 6:32sources coming from Taris Reid. Taris Reid throughout the season
- 6:36wasn't a high scoring player. You would expected Braylon
- 6:39Mullins was going to be that lead scorer for them or Caravan,
- 6:43who's been on this team for three years and he's he's been a
- 6:47national champion. You would have expected that a
- 6:50lot of these players were going to show up in the big game.
- 6:53And Michigan, they practically gave them every single chance to
- 6:58come back in the game and win the game.
- 6:59They they gave them so many opportunities to come back in
- 7:02the game. It's just UConn could not hit a
- 7:04shot. They could not hit a shot, and I
- 7:07expected this. I did expect this.
- 7:09I had UConn winning the game because I thought they were
- 7:11going to keep it at a low scoring game and they did, 69 to
- 7:1563. Michigan has been an
- 7:17electrifying offensive team throughout the tournaments.
- 7:21They're a great offensive team. Look what they did against
- 7:23Arizona, another good offensive team.
- 7:25They put up big points, a lot of points, and I expected this
- 7:29game, if UCOM was going to win, to keep it a very low scoring
- 7:32game, and they did. 69 and 63 is not a high scoring game for a
- 7:37national championship. And Michigan, who has been as
- 7:41good as anybody in this tournament shooting the three,
- 7:44couldn't elect 2 for 15. When you see those kind of
- 7:48numbers going into the second-half, you would think,
- 7:50and UConn, if I'm not mistaken, was only down by four or five
- 7:55points going into the second-half of the game.
- 7:58That to me gave UConn an opportunity to come back and win
- 8:02the game and I I trust Danny Hurley.
- 8:05I don't know if anybody heard the story that Danny Hurley
- 8:08during the half had his wife run home or run back to the, the
- 8:13hotel room because he left his lucky bracelet and she ran back
- 8:18and gave him back his lucky bracelet because he won national
- 8:21championships, 2 national championships with that lucky
- 8:24bracelet. And throughout this tournament
- 8:27he has, he's worn that lucky bracelet.
- 8:30Now I don't believe in things and like, I, I guess you could
- 8:34say monarchs and, and lucky coins and lucky bowls and lucky
- 8:41whatever. I don't believe in that.
- 8:43But Danny Hurley to me is a specific coach.
- 8:47He he plays a game. He plays the game at such a high
- 8:51level as a head coach, he understands the game at such a
- 8:53high level. And you look at this game and,
- 8:55and again, they've got Michigan's got players that are
- 8:59going to be NBA players a day. Mara is going to be an NBA
- 9:04player. Did he have a great game?
- 9:05No, but throughout the tournament he's been very, very
- 9:07good. He will be a good backup
- 9:10defensive center in the NBAI could see the Knicks drafting
- 9:14him in the second round. I could see him a late first
- 9:17round draft pick. Yaxel Lenenburg, this guy a lot
- 9:21of people believe is a top 20 pick now he can shoot the ball.
- 9:24He's got some size. I think he's a little undersized
- 9:27for his position, but this is a guy that can do everything well
- 9:32defensively, offensively. And again, Michigan to me going
- 9:36into this tournament, besides, I would say two other teams was
- 9:41the best all around team going into the tournament.
- 9:45Duke was one of them, which we all know what happened before
- 9:49the tournament. They lost two big players.
- 9:51One of them came back during the tournament, didn't really help
- 9:54them, but they they're to me, when you look at I'm I'm again,
- 9:59we all know what I think about John Shire.
- 10:01I don't think John Shire is Danny Hurley, but their team,
- 10:04they're all around team. They were very good offensively
- 10:07throughout the season and very good defensively.
- 10:10I look at Michigan, the this was the best all around team going
- 10:14into the tournament. The questions was with Michigan
- 10:17is could they could they do this consistently throughout the
- 10:20tournament And the bracket they were in was probably the easiest
- 10:24bracket. You can argue they had the
- 10:27easiest bracket from UConn, who was playing in that E bracket.
- 10:31When you look at Duke, you look at St.
- 10:33John's, there are a lot of good teams over there.
- 10:37And the Houston bracket I thought was very easy too.
- 10:39I, I thought that was a interesting bracket.
- 10:41Illinois came out of that bracket, and that's probably why
- 10:44Illinois came out of that bracket, because once Florida
- 10:47got eliminated, I think it was smooth sailing.
- 10:50There was nobody in that bracket besides Houston that I thought
- 10:53was going to come out and and play in the Final Four.
- 10:56But Houston choked. And then you look at Michigan,
- 11:01they had to go through a good team.
- 11:02Arizona, I know Fish, I know Q. They had a love fest for this
- 11:06Arizona team. The Wildcats.
- 11:08They're they're they're good offensive team, had problems
- 11:11shooting the three throughout the tournament, had problems
- 11:13shooting the three throughout the season.
- 11:15This is not one of the better shooting teams in the
- 11:17tournament. So that's where the advantage
- 11:20was for Michigan getting into the Final Four.
- 11:23They were the best shooting team going into the Final Four out of
- 11:27all four teams and U Conn was probably the weakest offensively
- 11:33out of all four teams. And, and if U Conn had a chance
- 11:37to win this game, they did what they needed to do defensively,
- 11:40but they needed to put up points.
- 11:41They needed to score. And I said it on the show a
- 11:44couple of weeks ago, if they're going to win a national
- 11:47championship, and I predicted the national championship final
- 11:50score, it was me, Purdue and U Conn.
- 11:55I expected the game to be at the least, if UConn was going to win
- 11:58the game, they were going to win 7874.
- 12:01I had Perdue beating UConn, 7673.
- 12:06I had to put up some points. And this game was really a lack
- 12:11of offense. It was two teams that really
- 12:14played back and forth basketball.
- 12:16They defended, they rebounded. But at the tail end of the game,
- 12:20UConn could not find the hole. They could not find it.
- 12:24They were trying to drive the ball.
- 12:25They made some mistakes in the fourth quarter that kept them
- 12:28away from even catching up the Michigan or making even close in
- 12:33with Michigan's. Because really, the last five
- 12:35minutes of the game, Michigan was up by like 8 or 9 points.
- 12:39They were chasing. UConn was chasing all through
- 12:42the second-half, something that UConn was not doing throughout
- 12:45the tournament. When they fell behind against
- 12:47Duke, what did they do? They slowly but surely chased in
- 12:51the second-half, cut it down eight points, cut it down to 765
- 12:55points. That's what UConn does.
- 12:58They keep the game close. They play team defense and then
- 13:01they have guys, they have shooters like Braylon Mullins.
- 13:04They got guys like Terrace Reed who's played very well on the
- 13:07boards, can get into the paint and draw fouls, could free throw
- 13:10shooter. That's what UConn does so very
- 13:13well. But against Michigan, Michigan
- 13:17gave them every single reason to win this game.
- 13:20And I, I honestly think Michigan had one of the worst final
- 13:25games, championship games, I've ever seen a championship team
- 13:29win. Think about it.
- 13:32You watch a championship team dominate throughout the bracket,
- 13:35they were dominating scoring. They were beating teams by 2030
- 13:40points. And against a UConn team that
- 13:44couldn't shoot, couldn't do anything offensively, they beat
- 13:48them by 6 points because UConn didn't get, didn't take the
- 13:52chances they had in the second-half of the game, even
- 13:55when Danny Hurley was calling timeouts.
- 13:57And he did it so very well with the last 6-7 minutes of the
- 14:00game. And then they hit a big
- 14:02three-point shot. They cut it down to four with 2
- 14:041/2 minutes left of the game. And you thought, hey, Uconn's
- 14:08going to figure it out. They're going to find a way.
- 14:09Braylon Mullins. Mullins is going to hit a three
- 14:12or they're going to get a 2. And they're going to get they're
- 14:14going to get fouled and they got a free throw.
- 14:16And they're going to be cutting it down to one point.
- 14:18And it's going to be really a final shot of the game.
- 14:20Who's going to hit the final shot of the game?
- 14:22Who's going to make the big defensive play?
- 14:23And it wasn't like that. It was really after that shot
- 14:29they hit and they cut it down to four points with 2 1/2 minutes
- 14:32left of the game. UConn couldn't do anything else.
- 14:35They couldn't do anything and that to me was the reason why
- 14:40Michigan won a national championship.
- 14:42Now I got to give a shout out to shout out to Dustin May.
- 14:44Dustin May has proven himself. He took over this team and a
- 14:48Michigan team over the last couple of years, really the last
- 14:5110 years, trying to find a coach, trying to guy find a guy
- 14:55that was going to take over for this team and and eventually
- 14:57prominently take them to a national championship.
- 15:00They haven't done since 2018. They lost in 2018.
- 15:04This this is a great basketball program.
- 15:07They are always known for their basketball and their football.
- 15:12They have world renowned teams. You think about Michigan, the
- 15:15Wolverines, the Fab 5, we all remember them.
- 15:18They failed because Chris Webber decides at the tail end of the
- 15:21game to call a timeout when they had no timeouts left.
- 15:24That cost, I believe, Michigan a national championship and and
- 15:28that was in the 90s. Think about that.
- 15:30They haven't won a championship since 89 and they've had a lot
- 15:33of good teams. A lot of good players just come
- 15:34out of Michigan, NBA players that were successful in the NBA
- 15:39but could never get over the hump.
- 15:40You think about this, UConn, for all the talent that they have,
- 15:44all the championships that they have won over the years, could
- 15:47you name more than three players that became decent NBA talents?
- 15:52Well, I remember 1 and he played for the next.
- 15:54You know what I'm talking about, speedy point guard Kemba Walker.
- 15:57Kemba Walker, he was the only one that I can really NIT pick
- 16:03from. All the teams, all the national
- 16:04championship, all those great UConn teams that ever became a
- 16:09superstar player in the NBA. Everybody else, Okafor remember
- 16:16him center, everybody thought this guy was going to be.
- 16:19He was a top five talent, drafted in a top five.
- 16:21He didn't make much of anything in the NBA.
- 16:25Went to the Bobcats, it was just tough and the Bobcats doesn't
- 16:27matter when he would have. Went great.
- 16:29He had no NBA. His NBA game was not going to
- 16:32fit. His game was more of a college
- 16:36game. He was a good rebounder, liked
- 16:38to get into the paint and draw a foul.
- 16:40She was a decent free throw shooter.
- 16:42That doesn't work in the NBA. And even when he was drafted,
- 16:46when he went to the Bobcats, he had No 3 point talents.
- 16:49He couldn't shoot anything further than a 1514 foot jumper.
- 16:53That wasn't in time. That wasn't in style back then.
- 16:57Hold on. Before you go any further, you
- 16:58think Kemba Walker was a superstar in the NBA?
- 17:01Yes, he was. Yes, he was.
- 17:03Because he played for the Knicks or.
- 17:05No, not with the Knicks. With the with Charlotte.
- 17:08He was a superstar player who's one of the better point guards
- 17:10in Eastern Conference. He was.
- 17:13He really was. And, and you look at the All
- 17:15Star games and, and honestly, the Eastern Conference had a ton
- 17:18of great point guards. So that's probably why Walker
- 17:22never really was consistent in the All Star game.
- 17:25But again, All Star games is, is voted by the the fans.
- 17:29It's not even voted by the players.
- 17:30It's not voted by the GM's or the the coaches.
- 17:34It's not. It's voted by the fans and then
- 17:37they pick. Then the coach that wins the
- 17:39championship the year before gets to coach the team and he
- 17:42picks his roster and how he wants to set up his roster.
- 17:46But Walker was a superstar player.
- 17:49You look at all those teams and all those championship
- 17:52contending teams, none of those guys really became NBA players,
- 17:55talented NBA players. So, but Michigan, you go back
- 17:59and you look at some of the guys that came from Michigan, a lot
- 18:02of those guys when they made it to the NBA were great players,
- 18:06good players, Maybe not all of them superstars, but good
- 18:09players. Hardaway Junior.
- 18:14Michigan did produce a superstar, but Kimball Walker
- 18:17was a superstar. What do you I didn't.
- 18:19You don't think Chris Webber was a superstar?
- 18:21That's not what I'm talking about.
- 18:22You're, you're, you're, I'm not saying that you're not listening
- 18:25to me here. You're listen to what I'm
- 18:26saying. Michigan has had a lot of great
- 18:30players come from their program, some superstars, some not, but
- 18:34they were better. And if you look at the talent in
- 18:37the past, they you, when you look at UConn and all the
- 18:40achievements that UConn has made over the years, going to
- 18:44national championships, Final Fours, If you look at the talent
- 18:48that's gone to the NBA, I would say I can only nitpick maybe one
- 18:52or two guys that had long careers in the NBA in Michigan.
- 18:57There have been guys that have come out of Michigan and have
- 19:00been successful, played 1415 years in the NBA, partially Hall
- 19:04of Farmers. But again, when I look at this
- 19:07Michigan team, am I going to tell you right now that at least
- 19:11one or two of these guys are going to be NBA superstars?
- 19:14I don't know. Now we we have to see their
- 19:16development. A lot of people think Lindenborg
- 19:20is their best player. I, I don't know, because his, a
- 19:24lot of people say his frame is not what you call what you look
- 19:28for as a, a forward, a power forward slash small forward,
- 19:31wherever they position him or wherever they decide to put him
- 19:35in the NBA. And, and again, they're they're
- 19:37kind of questioning where he's going to be drafted.
- 19:39He's going to be drafted in the teens.
- 19:41He's definitely not a lottery pick.
- 19:44I, I can't see Linda Borg being a lottery pick.
- 19:46He's probably more of a 14th. I mean late lottery pick.
- 19:50If anything, probably 1617 type of pick.
- 19:53I've heard I've seen on a couple of draft boards Charlotte likes
- 19:56him. So maybe the Charlotte, the
- 19:58Charlotte Hornets decide to draft him.
- 20:01I think they draft at 17 or 18. Maybe that's where that's the
- 20:04route they go. I I don't know.
- 20:06But I look at this team, this roster, a Dame, Morrow, who a
- 20:09lot of people like that could be a decent NBA player.
- 20:12They're saying he's a late first round, early second round pick.
- 20:17The only guy. And here's the thing, Yukon,
- 20:20everybody likes this Braylon Mullins.
- 20:22But here's the thing that I would say about Braylon Mullins.
- 20:24I do not think he should go to the NBA this year.
- 20:29I think he should play another year at college basketball and
- 20:32figure who he is and and let him develop his body.
- 20:35I don't think his body is fit right now for the NBAI don't.
- 20:38And if he rushes into the NBAI don't know how good he's going
- 20:41to be. He's going to be a secondary
- 20:42player. Look what's happened.
- 20:44Look at all the Portland Trailblazer players.
- 20:46We were just talking about it. Scoot Henderson, this guy was a
- 20:50top three, top four pick by Portland and I thought he was
- 20:54going to be a good player in the NBA.
- 20:56His development has been horrible.
- 20:58He goes to the G League and he keeps coming back from the G
- 21:01League to the NBA, the G League to the NBA and there's no
- 21:04Chauncey pull ups, but I don't think that's a big deal.
- 21:06I really don't. It's called development and and
- 21:10and his. Development coach got to be
- 21:11there. The coach doesn't help this guy
- 21:13shoot 303 pointers every single week when he's supposed to
- 21:17practice and put himself out there if he knows he has a
- 21:20weaknesses in his game. You're going to go out there and
- 21:22you're going to practice. That's what you do.
- 21:24And, and to me, Scoot Henderson, who a lot of people thought he
- 21:28had an NBA 3 point shot, has a great inside game and this guy's
- 21:32going to develop, develop his skills.
- 21:34He hasn't developed his skills. As a matter of fact, I think
- 21:38Scoot is one of the worst top five picks the NBA has seen in
- 21:42the last 20 years. He's been really, really bad.
- 21:45What's he averaging right now for Portland?
- 21:4817 and like inefficient shooting.
- 21:51I'm I'm telling you, he's not a. Very good player.
- 21:53That's good. That's pretty.
- 21:54Good. No, it's not, No.
- 21:56It's 17 points in the NBA right now.
- 21:57It's not he's. 14 shots. He's shooting 2526 shots a game.
- 22:0114.4 actually. 14 actually. He's not a good player.
- 22:06He's not a good player. He's really not.
- 22:08When you're a top five player and you're you had the number
- 22:11two pick, if I'm not mistaken, Yeah.
- 22:13He's shooting 41.4%. That's not good.
- 22:16No, I'm not. He's a, he's a what?
- 22:19Is he working second? Wasn't that weapon Yamas draft?
- 22:21Yes, it was. I think he was third and Brandon
- 22:23Miller was the Hornets pick, was the second kid from Alabama that
- 22:26got into that legal trouble during the tournament with all
- 22:28the guns. I think he was second and Scoot
- 22:30was third. And like you said, Scoot's been
- 22:32demoted I think 6 different times already in this is now
- 22:35year, year three in the NBA. And that's not a guy you trust
- 22:41to build your team around. What I'm saying here, isn't it?
- 22:43I'm not making, I'm not cracking.
- 22:45Jokes on Scoot Anderson, I I understand he could develop.
- 22:49He's what, 2324? He could be eventually.
- 22:52He could develop his skills later in his career.
- 22:54We've seen players get better in the later parts of their career.
- 22:57Maybe he gets traded. Maybe Portland isn't the team.
- 23:00Maybe that isn't the roster he's going to develop his skills on.
- 23:03All I'm saying is we have watched guys get drafted.
- 23:06Markel's faults, remember him faults, was the what, number
- 23:10one, number two pick he was drafted by, if I'm not mistaken,
- 23:13the 76ers. Right.
- 23:15Yep. We talked about it with Dan
- 23:16Purcell. That was the whole Jaylen Brown
- 23:18trade because he was too slow with the with the calf walking
- 23:21or. Whatever.
- 23:22And look how bad he was. He's been a journeyman.
- 23:24I don't even know if he's in the NBA anymore.
- 23:26The last time I remember he was in the G League.
- 23:28Maybe he's playing in China. We seen a lot of NBA players
- 23:31jump ship and go and play in different countries.
- 23:34Why I'm saying this is when I look at Michigan's roster, none
- 23:38of these guys pop out as NBA superstars.
- 23:43None of them. Now does that mean that they
- 23:45shouldn't be an elite team in in college basketball?
- 23:49No, because college basketball is run by team basketball.
- 23:53Team defense, team offense, how you run the zone.
- 23:56You play man to man. And that's something that
- 23:58Michigan has done very well all season long.
- 24:00They only lost three games and throughout the tournament they
- 24:03completely dominated in every single game besides this one.
- 24:07Think about it, the one game they didn't show up to was a
- 24:11national championship game. That's the truth.
- 24:14If you look at if you're if you're a Michigan fan and I know
- 24:17there's a couple of guys that are probably listening to the
- 24:20show right now, Carl being one of them, you can see that roster
- 24:26from top to bottom. Aren't is it a roster that
- 24:29sticks out to you that says, Oh my God, they can probably beat
- 24:34the Duke Blue Devils in the 90s or beat some of these top
- 24:37national championship teams because honest to God, if they
- 24:40play like that, they're not going to win.
- 24:42That was a really, really bad game for a national
- 24:45championship. We've seen most national
- 24:47championship games have always come down to the wire.
- 24:50Even when Yukon and I against Purdue a couple of years ago,
- 24:55that was a very close game that really came down to the wire.
- 24:58UConn was the better team. A lot of people had UConn
- 25:01winning the national championship.
- 25:02Purdue had such a great run. They had one of the best big men
- 25:07in the in the country, if not the best big man in the whole
- 25:09tournament. He was probably the best player
- 25:11in the tournament. And then he walked into a jigsaw
- 25:15puzzle in and UConn. And Danny Hurley is very hard to
- 25:18read as a head coach because he plays a lot of pressure defense.
- 25:22That's what he does. He presses up, up top.
- 25:25He wants you to, he, he wants you to, he wants to force you to
- 25:27get into the pain. He wants you to force you to
- 25:29take shots where you're uncomfortable doing.
- 25:32And, and, and that's, that's the power of great coaching.
- 25:35If you want a point and you want a new point, something that
- 25:38stands for college basketball and coaching, you put your
- 25:41players in the best position to win, even if you're not the more
- 25:45talented team. And that's what Danny Hurley
- 25:47does so very well. When you talk about Coach K,
- 25:50Coach K's teams, his national championship, championship
- 25:52teams, he's always had good recruiting classes.
- 25:55But what made Coach K1 of the more dominant coaches in NCAA
- 25:59history was the way he called his defense.
- 26:03That's what he did. Duke, who's more known for their
- 26:06defense, not their offense. From all the great teams that
- 26:09Duke and, and and Coach K has had over the years, Even Shire.
- 26:13Shire gets better talent now than Duke ever did in the 90s.
- 26:18Christian Leitner, when, when he was, when he was brought, when
- 26:21he was recruited, Christian Leitner wasn't the, he was a
- 26:24good high school talent. He wasn't the best.
- 26:27Bobby Early was probably the most talented out of all the
- 26:31guys that wanted to. Grant Hill was a good player in
- 26:33high school. Was he was he a top three
- 26:35recruit? I don't think Grant Hill was.
- 26:37I think he was a top 10 recruit. So now you look at Duke and look
- 26:41at the talent that they bring in.
- 26:43They're all #1 recruits #2 recruits #3 recruits.
- 26:47Cam and Kaden, these guys were top recruits in the country.
- 26:51Why I'm saying this is you look at UConn, besides Braylon
- 26:56Mullins, who a lot of people thought was a high recruit, none
- 26:59of these guys in Terrace Reed, he was in a top 10 recruit.
- 27:03Alex Caraban he was He wasn't a top 10.
- 27:06Recruit. No, he's a fifth year senior.
- 27:08Yeah, half of these guys weren't top recruits.
- 27:11Some of them came from the portal.
- 27:13That has something to do with coaching Michigan, these guys.
- 27:17Lenenborg was a top recruit. He was a good recruit a day.
- 27:22Mara was a good recruit. These guys were top recruits.
- 27:26Eliot Cadeau, this guy was been one of the best guards in the
- 27:29nation this year. He was a top recruit.
- 27:31All these guys were top recruits going into this game.
- 27:35When you look at talent versus talent, you would think
- 27:38Michigan's going to blow Yukon out of the water.
- 27:41What they did against Arizona was very impressive.
- 27:45Arizona has possibly 2, maybe even three guys that are going
- 27:48to be drafted in the top 23. Bradley Buries, Coopete.
- 27:53Those three of those guys, Coopete could be drafted in the
- 27:56late first round, but all of three of those guys are going to
- 27:59be first round talents. All three of them.
- 28:01Think about that. And Michigan ran over that team,
- 28:04ran over them. It wasn't even close.
- 28:07And that says a lot when you watch this national championship
- 28:10game and we go back and forth, we look at it's just bad
- 28:13basketball. The first half was just really,
- 28:15really bad. It was not something fun to
- 28:17watch. You want to say it was a lot of
- 28:19defense in the game. I don't know if it was that.
- 28:22It was just two teams that couldn't hit a shot and, and to
- 28:25me that's been a problem throughout this tournament.
- 28:28The free throws, even though both teams shot the free throws
- 28:30pretty well in this game, everything else was bad.
- 28:34Shooting the three, shooting 1817 foot jumpers, shooting
- 28:38layups. How many layups did we see
- 28:40missed? I saw a dunk being missed in the
- 28:43first half of the game. It was just a horribly played
- 28:46game. Yeah, it's, I think something
- 28:48where the quality of play that you saw from Yukon's two stars
- 28:52in the previous rest of the tournament were not there.
- 28:54Like even Reed, even though we got 14 rebounds in the game,
- 28:56some of those possessions he was extending did not turn into good
- 29:00shots or he tried to put them back and Michigan made him take
- 29:03uncomfortable shots. And that was what I was
- 29:04mentioning on Monday. Where Michigan, who knows Dusty
- 29:07May knows him being he was there the previous two years, is that
- 29:11they had a game plan for him to make him uncomfortable.
- 29:14Caravan did well, he was due to have a good game after having
- 29:16some rough games in the tournament.
- 29:17But again, those are really the only two you could get offensive
- 29:19production wise, which is hard for UConn because Michigan has a
- 29:22big size advantage. And Dan Hurley, you got to give
- 29:24him the credit though. He I was texting with Carl after
- 29:27the game. Carl or big Michigan fan, they
- 29:29played a Big 10 style of physicality with a team that
- 29:32outside of Taras Reid does not have a lot of size and Yukon's
- 29:35defense deserves a lot of credit for that making that work.
- 29:37Michigan, I was saying I think messed up a lot in the first
- 29:40half where they were shooting too many threes and yet still
- 29:42kept trying to do it when they were actually getting all these
- 29:45free throws. And we talked about it last
- 29:47month with the concrete jungle carousel with Dan Hurley yapping
- 29:50at his players for taking way too many fouls.
- 29:52And that was a big issue in the first half of that game.
- 29:54But Michigan, I don't think got enough free throw opportunities
- 29:56later or getting those and one opportunities to really put the
- 30:00pedal on the gas. It was 33 to 29, a very ugly
- 30:03first half at halftime. And that kind of thing left the
- 30:06game in Uconn's favor for a little while because of the way
- 30:08Dan Hurley was coaching. And the defense for UConn
- 30:11deserves a lot of credit inside and outside for that not making
- 30:14it easy. The problem is they just don't
- 30:16have enough size. They don't have enough secondary
- 30:18scoring if Mullins is off. Mullins was hitting some really
- 30:21tough shots against Illinois the round before that.
- 30:23It's not like UConn played an overly complete game against
- 30:26Illinois, but Mullins still hit those shots.
- 30:27Those are the shots you need those NBA prospect types to make
- 30:31and that was a difference in that kind of game.
- 30:33But everything you were describing before Errol was the
- 30:35epitome of what does not win in college basketball anymore,
- 30:37which are these flashy draft prospect type teams outside of
- 30:41Stefan Castle with UConn in 2024.
- 30:44Like there's not a lot of these teams that have these big name
- 30:46draft prospects on these national championship teams that
- 30:49you were talking about it. Lindenberg is probably maybe a
- 30:51mid first round pick at best because he's a six foot eight,
- 30:54240 LB guy that plays like a guard.
- 30:58You don't know how that's going to translate.
- 30:59He's not big enough to be an ML4 or five in the NBA.
- 31:02That's their best player and he was playing hurt.
- 31:04Meanwhile, you're also looking at a guy like Mara that's 7 foot
- 31:07three. He's big, he's good at bench
- 31:08center, but he's slow. He's slow for the NBA game.
- 31:11So the problem is that's not going to work in the NBA.
- 31:14However, in college basketball, you get that great fusion of
- 31:16everything together and This is why I like the process that
- 31:18Michigan had. It was a lot of transfers, it
- 31:20was a lot of senior transfers and it was a very similar
- 31:24process to what Florida did last year.
- 31:25That is the new wave of college basketball.
- 31:27It's not as much of these freshman driven teams.
- 31:29Congratulations to Michigan and. The Wolverines for beating
- 31:32UConn. We know how much of a fan Arrow
- 31:34is of Dan and the UConn Huskies. But yeah, I think there was
- 31:38outside like Speedy, like you said, I think there was
- 31:40outsides. And I think they used that high
- 31:44pick and roll 1 and then that high low where they was using
- 31:47the two big men. And then it was basically a 2
- 31:49versus one with Marvin Johnson versus Reed.
- 31:51So UConn didn't have nothing to do.
- 31:53And I think UConn was tired. You know, at first I thought
- 31:56Michigan was nervous. There's a big stage, there's a
- 31:58lot on the line. And then I thought UConn was
- 32:00just tired. Like they when you go back and
- 32:03look what they did with Duke, how that game went and it's
- 32:06progressed throughout the tournament, I don't think they
- 32:08had nothing left. And the tournament is all about
- 32:10whether or not you're going to make shots.
- 32:12And in the beginning, nobody could make shots.
- 32:13And I think the difference maker was that Michigan could run with
- 32:17them. Michigan was playing physical
- 32:18with them. And overall they just wear it,
- 32:20wear them warm down. And they they didn't have an
- 32:22answer because they couldn't hit shots.
- 32:25So I I totally agree. And I think those guys was was
- 32:29the better team. And like you said, that was
- 32:31keeping them in the game, but it just wasn't enough because
- 32:33they're the size difference. Qi, want to mention something to
- 32:35you? We were.
- 32:36Talking about like the North Carolina coaching candidates and
- 32:38you said you wanted a younger guy too at the time before you.
- 32:41We talked about Malone on Monday and you were seeing that kind of
- 32:44formula be the wave of it now a big school that has enough
- 32:47reputation with the NIL money like Michigan does with a
- 32:50younger coach that has done well with obviously FAU took a took
- 32:54of the Final Four. You look at Florida last year
- 32:55with Todd Golden doing well previously at University of San
- 32:58Francisco with a few tournament appearances in a small
- 33:00conference. Like that's the formula now that
- 33:02you're seeing in today's game. And a lot of transfers and a lot
- 33:04of senior transfers, I think are the big key.
- 33:06And now I think you're going to see a lot of these other teams
- 33:08adopted that same kind of formula.
- 33:10Yeah, the trend is definitely. Headed towards more seasoned
- 33:13older guys and getting creating the system and something built
- 33:18around that established senior junior those type of pedigree
- 33:22guys like I don't think I think the athletic you know super
- 33:26athlete and young kid. It's it's important, but I I
- 33:30just think that wave is over in regards to needing that for to
- 33:33win the championship. I also think that when.
- 33:36When you watched a national championship, you want to see a
- 33:39high scoring game. You don't want to see an all
- 33:41around defensive game. Even when you watched the Super
- 33:44Bowl this year, it was complete domination by Seattle.
- 33:47Seattle completely ran all over the Patriots, which everybody
- 33:50predicted because the Patriots shouldn't have been there.
- 33:53It was just really the just the weakness of the AFC and dealing
- 33:57with the Broncos, the Broncos losing Bo Knicks early in the
- 34:02playoffs and then going to a national, going to an AFC title
- 34:05game with a third string quarterback.
- 34:08So that that's the problem. You want to see competition.
- 34:10You want to see games that are going to be like the Arizona.
- 34:14That's what I wanted to see. What what happened to Arizona
- 34:17and Michigan, a high scoring game, back and forth offense
- 34:20really Michigan blew him out, but Arizona made a comeback.
- 34:24They were trying to come back in the game if it was something
- 34:26like that, and it was scored maybe 100, a hundred more, 105
- 34:30points by both teams, which usually national championships
- 34:33don't go over more than 80 points.
- 34:34Usually it doesn't go any more than that, but it was just, to
- 34:38me, it was one of those games that wasn't fun to watch.
- 34:42It was boring. We were watching the final 567
- 34:45minutes of the game at Applebee's and everybody was
- 34:48like, oh, and ah, because nobody can hit a shot.
- 34:51Nobody can hit a shot. Every time we saw some kind of
- 34:53points go on the board, it was free throws.
- 34:55That's what we were seeing with the last 7 minutes of the game.
- 34:58And then like I said, when Yukon cut it down to four, everybody
- 35:03was like, oh, Yukon has a chance.
- 35:04There's 4 minutes or I think 2 1/2 or 3 minutes left of the
- 35:07game. Yukon has a chance.
- 35:09We saw this against Duke. They're going to make a comeback
- 35:11and they just couldn't because every time they they cut the cut
- 35:16it down, Michigan then would hit an easy layup or go to the free
- 35:19throw line, hit two and then Yukon would take it down and
- 35:23then miss an easy layup or an easy shot.
- 35:25And then Michigan would take it down and get fouled again and
- 35:27they shoot two more free throws. It it was just bad basketball
- 35:32and what you want to see in a national champ.
- 35:34And I'm not blaming Michigan or Yukon for that.
- 35:36It's just one of those bad shooting games.
- 35:39It happens, but you didn't want to see this happen in a national
- 35:42championship game. That's love, the defensive game.
- 35:46It wasn't a defensive. Game it really wasn't.
- 35:48It was seems not any shots. Bricklaying game.
- 35:53Michigan had 90 points in every game until this last game.
- 35:57They hit only two threes in this game.
- 36:00Bro, it's just dead legs. They all had dead legs in this
- 36:03tournament. They the offensive output that
- 36:06they were going through. They just didn't have any legs
- 36:08for the last game. Both teams, it was ugly.
- 36:11It was a rock fight. It wasn't a really good game.
- 36:14It was competitive as hell. It was a championship game.
- 36:17But what's it called, you kind? Of had like 5 people in double
- 36:20figures. They did.
- 36:21They spread it. Around nobody got 20 oh so
- 36:24because. Yukon and every single one of
- 36:26their starting lineup had five guys that hit over 10 points.
- 36:30That makes a big deal. That makes an offensive so so
- 36:33you. Want a lot of shooting and a lot
- 36:35of scoring? You don't care that there's
- 36:37defensive or like it wasn't defense if.
- 36:40You want, but the game was competitive.
- 36:41Right. True or not, even if they're
- 36:43missing like that, they would just let them shoot like or was
- 36:47they actually competing. It was a little different for
- 36:49both teams. I.
- 36:50Think here 5 for 14 caravan. 4 for 12 for Reed.
- 36:56I'm not going to mention solo ball was 4 for 10, Braille,
- 37:00Braille and Mullins was 4 for 17.
- 37:02I mean, if you go up and down there, it's just a horrible
- 37:04shooting game. It was horrible bad game for.
- 37:08Reed This is what we were worried about for him too.
- 37:11It might really hurt his draft stock.
- 37:13He could not handle Mara at all and they only had three guys.
- 37:16That went to the line. Caravan, Reed and Ross.
- 37:20Those are the only three guys that went to the free throw line
- 37:24throughout the game. The whole game, those were the
- 37:26only three guys. Mullins, Berlin.
- 37:28Mullins didn't have one free throw.
- 37:30Solo Ball didn't have one free throw.
- 37:33Jalen Stewart didn't have. I'm sorry, no, he had no free
- 37:36throws. I'm just looking at the numbers
- 37:38right now. None of the other guys had any
- 37:40free throw shots. But if you go to Michigan, let's
- 37:43look at how many times Michigan was at the line.
- 37:45All right, Lenenborg. He was 5.
- 37:48For five, Johnson was 2 for 2. Elliot Caddo, he was 8 for 9,
- 37:56Burnett was 4 for four. Trey McKinney was 4 for four,
- 38:01Gayle right, Gayle 2 for four. I mean, practically their whole
- 38:05roster went to the free throw line and they hit it.
- 38:08They hit very well. They were they were very good at
- 38:11the free throw line. The reason why they beat UConn
- 38:14was because UConn found the hell out of them.
- 38:17That's why if Yukon kept them from going to the free throw
- 38:21line, Yukon wins the national championship.
- 38:24That's the facts. Look at it wasn't fair if it.
- 38:27Wasn't fair. You know what it was though
- 38:29Like. Their whole game, the entire
- 38:31tournament was get it to read inside and then he's going to
- 38:35muscle his way and he's going to get the offensive rebounds, he's
- 38:37going to get the every defensive rebound.
- 38:39And then he was up against a guy who had five inches on him and
- 38:43he couldn't, you know, take it to him.
- 38:45So he was missing bunnies. He was, he wasn't even using the
- 38:47backboard trying to get it over the guy.
- 38:49And he was a shell of himself in this game.
- 38:52Hit like 2 skyhooks in the beginning.
- 38:53Of the game, it looked like he was getting comfortable and then
- 38:55all of a sudden Michigan forced him to the side a lot.
- 38:59You can't play that. You.
- 39:00Can't play through them. You can't play through him for
- 39:02three or four games and then expect for him to show up huge
- 39:05in the championship game. He has somebody else to score.
- 39:07The one thing that I've. Been saying has been a big
- 39:10problem throughout the tournament and that shooting
- 39:12free throws was the one reason why UConn lost the national
- 39:15championship and UConn was not shooting free throws very good
- 39:19throughout the tournament. They really weren't either was
- 39:22Duke either was St. John's.
- 39:23Every single every single team in the east side were not
- 39:26shooting free throws very, very well and and on in the other
- 39:29regions as well. But this was a poorly shooting
- 39:33free throw championship or national tournament.
- 39:37If you watch the tournament, nobody can hit free throws.
- 39:40Nobody but you go into the national championship.
- 39:43The one reason why Michigan won a national championship is
- 39:46because they hit their free throws and UConn couldn't get to
- 39:49the line. They could not draw fouls by
- 39:52Michigan. That says a lot about the coach.
- 39:54Now I'm not saying he out coached Danny Hurley, because I
- 39:58am. How did he out coach Danny
- 39:59Hurley? He stopped shooting threes and.
- 40:01Went to a high low in the pick and roll.
- 40:02That's to got his team. He got his players to get to the
- 40:05free throw line. That's three.
- 40:06I mean, I don't know how much, how much more you need for that.
- 40:09That's three adjustments in in in one game that coaches usually
- 40:13don't make and they they must have listened to her arrow marks
- 40:16in regards to shooting free throws.
- 40:18So they got to the freedom. Now.
- 40:19Why don't you crown destiny, mate?
- 40:21She Wanda, That's the trip show. Why wouldn't you crown him
- 40:23arrow? Because he didn't out coach.
- 40:25Danny Hurley, How did he this this team Michigan was maybe 3
- 40:30Michigan. Michigan was the.
- 40:31Best team going into this corner the they were the number one
- 40:34seed. UConn, a lot of people
- 40:36questioned that they shouldn't have been a number two seed.
- 40:38Some people thought they were a four seed.
- 40:40They were that much better than UConn all season long, all
- 40:44season long. And you're going to tell me
- 40:46UConn lost six games, This team lost three games and Michigan is
- 40:50in a harder, We could say it. They're in a harder division.
- 40:52They're in the harder, harder conference.
- 40:55So and, and, and if you look at who Michigan had to beat all
- 40:58season long to what Connecticut had to beat, it's not even
- 41:01close. It's not even an argument.
- 41:03The fact here is Danny Hurley should not have been in the
- 41:06national championship game. He kept it close, but Michigan
- 41:10kept them close. The only reason why Michigan let
- 41:15this game stay close is because they couldn't hit a three-point
- 41:18shot. None of them could.
- 41:20They've been the best 3 pointed shoot shooting team in the
- 41:23tournament. They were the best.
- 41:25And then they go into the national championship and
- 41:27they're 2 for 15 and you think that's great coaching?
- 41:30No, they made an adjustment. Did it?
- 41:32Not what? Who made an adjustment?
- 41:35Destiny he's. Taking half, did he not?
- 41:38Because they still were. Missing 3 point shots, they were
- 41:41still what adjustment attack was.
- 41:44It not high lows? Was it not picking roads?
- 41:46Did they not get to the line? They can't sit here saying he
- 41:48didn't adjust because they didn't hit 3 pointers.
- 41:51Did you watch the rest of the game?
- 41:52Yeah, I watched the whole second.
- 41:54Half of the game and I don't know what you were watching
- 41:56because if you were watching the game you would know threes the
- 41:59whole second. Half, they shot a lot of threes
- 42:01in the second. Half they just shoot threes, no?
- 42:03Team shoots just. Threes in the halves.
- 42:06So they made an adjustment. Oh, that's.
- 42:08Not an adjustment. They still missed a lot of
- 42:10threes, they still missed a lot of threes, that's all.
- 42:13I'm asking, I'm not saying dusty.
- 42:15May wasn't good, but to say that he out coached Danny Hurley is a
- 42:19joke. That's not true.
- 42:20That's not true and he won. He came out on top.
- 42:22He didn't. He did not he.
- 42:24Did it he? Came out, he decided.
- 42:27To Pat Rodney, the game up from the 90s with the Knicks, like
- 42:30he's like, I'm just we can't shoot.
- 42:32Let's just go 90s, beat everybody up inside and see what
- 42:35happens. Fish he only, they only.
- 42:38Shot threes with Earl saw he saw the Hostess.
- 42:40That's not what I'm saying. I don't.
- 42:42Know what you're talking about? You're taking.
- 42:44Words out of my mouth. I never said that.
- 42:46I never said that. What I'm saying is you're saying
- 42:49that Dustin May outcoach Danny Hurley, which he didn't.
- 42:53He didn't outcoach. What are you talking about?
- 42:58Danny Early is not telling these guys to foul.
- 43:01He says what do you shoot the layup foul.
- 43:03Yeah, that's what he's telling him to do.
- 43:06That's not what he's saying. That's I am listening.
- 43:08I don't know what you're talking about.
- 43:10I was watching the players. I completely never gave them any
- 43:14advice. You know what, we're not here at
- 43:183, so we're going to make the adjustments.
- 43:20That's what you're saying. What adjustment you don't want?
- 43:22To do, Justin made his props. What adjustment did they make?
- 43:26We just told you. They got fouled, they got to the
- 43:28line, they hit free throws, they attacked them.
- 43:31They had a high low. They used post.
- 43:33So you're telling me? You're telling me?
- 43:35That was. His plan?
- 43:36Go to the hole and get fouled bigger.
- 43:38Yeah, that's one. Bigger.
- 43:39That's not what happened. I'm saying that, but you're
- 43:41saying that it's just the players.
- 43:43That's not what happened. Because if you look at the
- 43:45numbers, Connecticut was only outscored by two in the
- 43:48second-half. So I don't know why how many
- 43:50adjustments they made. They didn't make that many
- 43:52adjustments. They were.
- 43:53They were O for 9 from three in the first half so they didn't
- 43:56take that many threes in the 2nd and they won.
- 43:59And they won the paint battle 36 to 22 in the game.
- 44:02That's why they won the game. They the paint battle was how
- 44:05UConn was. But you're not I I agree with
- 44:07you. They won the game coaching
- 44:08thing. I.
- 44:09Think it was just they were a better, better size.
- 44:11They were better players, you know, they won the game because.
- 44:15They were getting to the line and they hit their free throws
- 44:18and UConn, even though and Michigan, they were not fouling
- 44:22because a lot of the layups and a lot of what UConn was doing in
- 44:26the second-half, they weren't. They were open shots.
- 44:29They had many times that they can get to the hole.
- 44:31They were missing easy layups, easy layups.
- 44:35So if you watch the game, which I did in the second-half, Yukon
- 44:40couldn't hit a lick. They couldn't even hit a 1760
- 44:43foot jumper. How many 3 point shots did we
- 44:46see in the second-half that Yukon missed?
- 44:49Bro they went 20. 5 of 28 from the line.
- 44:52Michigan. Yeah, no, I'm not losing.
- 44:55You're not losing. If you go 2528 if you actually
- 44:57hit the free throws. Which UConn couldn't hit the
- 45:00free throws prior to this UConn, but all of a sudden if Michigan
- 45:04would have fouled them, they would have been able to hit the
- 45:08first of all. First of all, UConn did hit
- 45:11their free throws. They were Caravan was 4 for six,
- 45:15Reed was 5 for six and Jaden Ross was 3 for four.
- 45:20They couldn't get to the line. They couldn't get to the because
- 45:24they were forcing bad shots. A lot of these guys, Braylin and
- 45:28again, everybody keeps saying this kid Braylin Mullins is
- 45:32going to be a top pick. Some people think he could be a
- 45:34top ten pick. Who knows?
- 45:36But he did not play well. The one big shot he had against
- 45:39Duke was the final shot of the game.
- 45:42He wasn't. Great, he was horrible.
- 45:45In the national championship, horrible.
- 45:48And these guys are jumping. To go play an 82 game schedule
- 45:51in the NBA and they can't get through the 3738 games here with
- 45:54their legs. Look, it's tough, but you know
- 45:57what I mean? Like they won't play.
- 45:58As much obviously their first couple years in the league.
- 46:00But you look you're right. Errol 12 of 16 from the line for
- 46:04U Conn before we move on to the carousel, the Michigan 25 to
- 46:082889.3%. That's unheard of in college
- 46:11basketball. That's 13 point advantage at the
- 46:14line. They won by 6.
- 46:16That's good coaching and they're coaching.
- 46:17Making them shoot, that's not good coaching.
- 46:19How? Do you hit that many free throws
- 46:21and only win by 6? What do you mean that's not
- 46:23good? That's.
- 46:24Not it's not. I think it's a testament to how.
- 46:26Good Danny Hurley is. I just think he had clearly the
- 46:29inferior team and maybe the refs just whistle happy for what are
- 46:32we talking the refs now? Well, look, whenever is that?
- 46:35Kind of a discrepancy. You're going to say they called
- 46:38it a little differently. Fish.
- 46:39Fish is going to. Bring out his favorite clip of
- 46:41Danny. Hurley, he's going to get the
- 46:42refs from last year. I will say.
- 46:46This I will say this. About dust in May, I will give
- 46:49him credit. This is a guy that I will give
- 46:51him credit. Let me speak for two years, two
- 46:54years he's been there and he finally in his second year wins
- 46:57a national championship. This is guy that's been, he's
- 47:00been an incredible head coach in, in the NCAA.
- 47:03He moved up in the rankings and he's finally got a big job and
- 47:06now he's coaching Michigan. Michigan hasn't won a national
- 47:09championship since 1989. A lot of people questioning
- 47:12picking May out of all the guys you could have picked take over
- 47:15the Michigan Wolverines basketball program.
- 47:18There was a lot of, you know, back and forth banter on it that
- 47:21look at all the talented coaches that were out there that could
- 47:24have been brought back. I mean, I'm, I'm not, I don't
- 47:27remember exactly who was available, but I'm, I'm pretty
- 47:30sure there was at least three or four big names that were out
- 47:33there when he when they decided to go in a you got to give him a
- 47:36little bit of credit there because he took over a program
- 47:38that has not been successful since 1989.
- 47:41And in the 90s when they had the Fab 5 and everybody thought they
- 47:44were going to win a national championship and they choked
- 47:46because we know Chris Webber was stupid and everybody remembers
- 47:50the whole run. Michigan's run to the national
- 47:53to go to a national championship was left.
- 47:56Everything was the site was was Chris Weber's calling the time
- 48:01out when they had no time outs with one second left of the
- 48:04game. So that's the truth.
- 48:06Called him stupid because he didn't.
- 48:07Know. Go ahead.
- 48:09Coach, what did you what did you say before?
- 48:12We get into the next segment. You know, the athletic director
- 48:15of Michigan has been really embattled with the football
- 48:19team. You talk about this choice for
- 48:21Dusty May. What a move by this guy.
- 48:24This just bought him another bunch of years because think
- 48:28about it like it's amazing he didn't get fired with everything
- 48:30that happened with the football team.
- 48:32I also personally love him because he was the AD of my
- 48:34college when I was there, SUNY Buffalo back in the day.
- 48:37He's the only guy that brought us to he's the first guy to
- 48:39bring us to the tournament. He's the first guy to get a
- 48:41winning record for that football team and he recruited Khalil
- 48:44Mack. And all I'll say is that guy is
- 48:48really good and you're seeing it right now.
- 48:50Maybe not morally 100 with the stuff that's gone over there,
- 48:55but he clearly is good at his job.
- 48:57I'm not. And again I'm.
- 48:59Not taking shots in AI, just I, I don't know if he actually out
- 49:03coached Danny Hurley. He didn't do that.
- 49:05Danny Hurley had every bit of a chance to win this game and come
- 49:09back and win this game. He just, his team couldn't hit a
- 49:12lick. But that was going into the
- 49:13tournament. The problem with UConn
- 49:15throughout the season was they were hot and cold.
- 49:18Offensive hot and cold. Why did St.
- 49:20John's completely dominated in the second time they played him
- 49:23this year? Why?
- 49:25Because they couldn't hit a lick.
- 49:26The first time they played St. John's, they hit every shot.
- 49:29The second time they played St. John's, they couldn't hit
- 49:31anything. So again, my argument here isn't
- 49:34that I'm not giving both coaches a lot of credit, I'm giving them
- 49:38both credit. I just thought that Danny
- 49:40Hurley, if his team could have figured out how to hit a couple
- 49:44of three-point shots or get to the line, they win the game or
- 49:47keep keep Michigan off the line. So that's all I'm saying.
- 49:50But we can't credit Dusty May. For getting his team cross the
- 49:53line. I get into the line hitting the
- 49:55free time. I am not.
- 49:56You never gave him credit. You never gave him credit.
- 49:58What do you? What do you say he got a
- 50:00championship? Since 89 two kisses ass.
- 50:02I'm not going to say go right back to dead Hurley after you.
- 50:06He didn't get it because I'm telling you.
- 50:10He could have won this game because.
- 50:12If you would have got because I'm telling because.
- 50:14I'm telling you because I'm telling you, Danny Early still
- 50:18had a chance to win the game and that had something to do with
- 50:20the way he called the game defensively.
- 50:23That's what I'm saying. He did it.
- 50:24He did it. He did Really, really.
- 50:28He never did Michigan. Michigan was.
- 50:30Forced to shoot bad threes, they won the game they.
- 50:33Were shoot, they were making it. Up.
- 50:35They were forced. To.
- 50:36Shoot bad threes throughout the game.
- 50:38They were, what are you talking, Danny Hurley, who made them
- 50:42shoot the bad threes? The defense.
