1:22
Well
1:22
Sleddy,
1:23
welcome
1:23
to
1:23
the
1:23
Articulate
1:23

1:25
Thank
1:25
you
1:25
so
1:25
much
1:25
for
1:26
having
1:26
me
1:26
on.
1:26
Oh
1:27
dude,
1:27
I'm
1:27
totally
1:27
looking
1:28
forward
1:28
to
1:28
it.
1:28
And
1:28
we
1:28
have
1:29
a
1:29
tradition
1:29
on
1:29
the
1:29
Articulate
1:30
Fly.
1:30
We
1:30
like
1:31
to
1:31
ask
1:31
all
1:31
of
1:31
our
1:31
guests
1:32
to
1:32
share
1:32
their
1:32
earliest
1:33
fishing
1:33
memory.
1:35
Fair
1:35
enough.
1:35
I
1:36
I
1:36
thinking
1:37
about
1:37
that
1:37
off
1:38
my
1:38
off
1:38
the
1:38
rip
1:39
here,
1:39
I
1:39
would
1:39
say
1:41
I
1:41
started
1:42
fishing
1:42
pretty
1:43
young.
1:43
I
1:44
think
1:44
the
1:44
first
1:44
time
1:44
I
1:45
ever
1:45
caught
1:45
a
1:45
fish
1:45
was
1:46
probably
1:46
around
1:46
the
1:47
age
1:47
of
1:47
four
1:47
or
1:48
five,
1:48
but
1:48
my
1:48
first
1:49
really
1:49
distinct
1:50
memory
1:52
in
1:52
my
1:52
time
1:53
fishing
1:53
was
1:54
probably
1:55
around
1:56
10
1:57
or
1:57
11
1:58
when
1:59
I
1:59
caught
1:59
my
1:59
first
1:59
northern
2:00
pike.
2:01
And
2:02
there
2:02
was
2:02
a
2:03
place
2:03
up
2:04
north
2:04
here
2:04
in
2:04
Michigan
2:05
where
2:05
my
2:06
family
2:06
had
2:06
some
2:07
property
2:07
and
2:07
it
2:07
was
2:09
kind
2:09
of
2:09
like
2:09
a
2:09
homeowners
2:10
association
2:11
up
2:11
north
2:11
that
2:12
had
2:12
a
2:13
really
2:13
nice
2:13
man
2:14
made
2:14
lake
2:15
within
2:16
the
2:16
boundaries
2:17
of
2:17
the
2:17
property
2:18
up
2:18
there.
2:18
And
2:19
there
2:19
was
2:19
a
2:20
medium
2:21
sized
2:21
dam
2:21
at
2:22
one
2:22
of
2:22
the
2:22
ends
2:22
of
2:23
the
2:23
lake
2:23
that
2:23
connected
2:23
to
2:24
a
2:24
small
2:24
creek
2:24
and
2:25
there
2:26
was
2:26
a
2:26
small
2:27
pit
2:28
below
2:28
the
2:28
dam
2:28
kind
2:29
of
2:29
in
2:29
a
2:29
ravine
2:30
that
2:30
was
2:31
surrounded
2:31
by
2:31
rocks
2:32
and
2:32
it
2:32
wasn't
2:33
quite
2:33
cut
2:33
off
2:33
from
2:34
the
2:34
river
2:34
but
2:34
it
2:34
was
2:35
almost
2:35
like
2:35
a
2:36
pool
2:36
that
2:37
was
2:37
separate
2:37
before
2:38
you
2:38
got
2:38
into
2:38
the
2:38
creek.
2:39
And
2:39
I
2:39
remember
2:40
my
2:40
first
2:40
Interaction
2:41
with
2:41
a
2:41
pike,
2:42
with
2:42
a
2:42
friend
2:42
of
2:42
mine
2:43
there
2:44
actually
2:44
being
2:45
bit
2:45
off
2:45
by
2:46
one
2:46
and
2:46
then
2:46
going
2:47
back
2:47
and
2:48
finally
2:49
achieving
2:49
success
2:50
and
2:50
landing
2:51
that
2:51
fish.
2:51
Being
2:53
very
2:53
intimidated
2:54
with
2:54
the
2:54
teeth
2:54
and
2:56
the
2:56
slimy
2:57
coating
2:57
on
2:57
the
2:57
fish
2:58
and
2:59
tough
2:59
to
2:59
handle
3:00
and
3:00
just
3:00
a
3:00
vicious
3:01
looking
3:01
creature.
3:02
But
3:02
that's,
3:02
that's
3:03
probably
3:03
my,
3:03
one
3:03
of
3:04
my
3:04
most
3:04
distinct
3:05
early
3:05
on
3:06
memories
3:06
of
3:07
fishing,
3:07
I
3:07
would
3:07
say
3:08
the
3:08
one
3:08
that
3:08
stands
3:08
out
3:09
most
3:09
to
3:09
me.
3:10
Very
3:10
neat.
3:11
And
3:11
so
3:11
when
3:11
did
3:11
you
3:11
come
3:11
to
3:12
the
3:12
dark
3:12
side
3:12
of
3:12
fly
3:12
fishing?
3:13
Fly
3:14
fishing
3:14
started
3:15
for
3:15
me.
3:16
I,
3:16
I
3:16
developed
3:17
a
3:17
taste,
3:18
kind
3:19
of
3:19
an
3:19
inquiry
3:20
based
3:20
thing.
3:21
I,
3:21
I
3:21
had
3:21
a
3:22
family
3:23
member
3:23
who
3:23
got
3:23
me
3:23
a
3:24
yearly
3:24
subscription
3:25
to
3:25
Field
3:25
and
3:26
Stream
3:27
and
3:27
I
3:28
remember
3:28
reading
3:29
an
3:29
article
3:30
in
3:30
that
3:30
Matt,
3:31
one
3:31
of
3:31
the
3:31
issues
3:32
in
3:33
regards
3:33
to
3:34
the
3:34
holy
3:34
water
3:34
of
3:35
the
3:35
Ausable
3:35
river
3:36
and
3:36
the
3:36
trout
3:36
fishing
3:37
there.
3:37
And
3:37
I
3:38
became
3:38
fairly
3:39
captivated
3:39
with
3:39
the
3:40
whole
3:40
idea
3:40
of
3:40
trout
3:41
and
3:41
dry
3:42
fly
3:43
and
3:43
nymph
3:43
fishing
3:44
and
3:44
thought
3:45
it
3:45
was
3:45
really
3:45
cool
3:45
the
3:46
matching
3:46
the
3:46
insects
3:47
and
3:47
tying
3:48
your
3:48
own
3:48
flies.
3:48
And
3:49
I
3:49
actually,
3:49
oddly
3:50
enough
3:50
started
3:50
tying
3:51
before
3:51
I
3:51
actually
3:53
went
3:53
out
3:53
and
3:54
started
3:54
to
3:54
pursue
3:55
fish
3:55
with
3:55
a
3:55
fly
3:56
rod.
3:56
I,
3:56
I,
3:56
I
3:56
dug
3:57
into
3:57
the
3:57
fly
3:57
tying
3:58
end
3:58
of
3:58
things
3:58
first.
3:59
So
4:00
that
4:00
was
4:01
I
4:01
roughly
4:02
around
4:02
the
4:02
age
4:03
of
4:03
13,
4:03
14
4:05
and
4:05
then
4:05
as
4:05
I
4:06
grew
4:06
older
4:06
into
4:07
15,
4:07
16
4:08
range,
4:08
I,
4:08
I
4:09
got
4:09
a
4:09
rod
4:09
reel
4:10
and
4:10
taught
4:10
myself
4:11
how
4:11
to
4:11
cast
4:11
it
4:12
and
4:12
would
4:13
dabble
4:13
around
4:13
with
4:14
that.
4:14
I
4:14
grew
4:14
up
4:16
a
4:16
stone's
4:17
throw
4:17
from
4:17
Lake
4:17
Sinclair
4:18
here
4:18
in
4:18
the
4:18
metro
4:18
Detroit
4:19
region.
4:19
So
4:20
that
4:20
was
4:20
kind
4:20
of
4:20
my
4:21
starting
4:22
place
4:22
for
4:22
learning
4:23
how
4:23
to
4:23
cast
4:24
and
4:24
fish
4:24
the
4:25
rod,
4:25
catching
4:25
panfish.
4:26
And
4:26
as
4:27
I
4:27
got
4:27
a
4:27
little
4:27
bit
4:28
my,
4:28
my
4:28
skill
4:28
sets
4:29
druid
4:30
the
4:30
occasional
4:30
bass,
4:31
but
4:32
that
4:32
was
4:32
the
4:32
kickstarter
4:33
for
4:33
me.
4:33
And
4:33
then
4:34
really,
4:34
really
4:35
started
4:35
to
4:35
go
4:36
full
4:36
steam
4:36
once
4:36
I
4:37
reached
4:37
the
4:37
high
4:37
school
4:38
range
4:38
of
4:38
things.
4:38
And
4:39
when
4:39
I
4:39
was
4:39
about
4:39
a
4:40
junior
4:40
in
4:40
high
4:40
school
4:40
is
4:41
when
4:41
I
4:41
really,
4:41
really
4:42
started
4:43
to
4:43
get
4:43
head
4:43
over
4:43
heels
4:44
with
4:44
it
4:44
and
4:45
really
4:45
adamantly
4:46
pursued
4:46
it,
4:47
you
4:47
know,
4:47
from
4:47
that,
4:48
that
4:48
point
4:48
on
4:48
and
4:49
never
4:49
really
4:49
looked
4:50
back.
4:51
Yeah.
4:51
So
4:51
that
4:51
was
4:51
the
4:52
point
4:52
where
4:52
it
4:52
started
4:52
ruining
4:53
your
4:53
life,
4:53
right?
4:54
Yeah,
4:55
yeah,
4:55
definitely,
4:56
definitely
4:57
captivated
4:58
me
4:58
a
4:58
lot
4:58
more
4:59
than
4:59
I
4:59
thought
4:59
it
4:59
would.
4:59
I
5:00
really,
5:00
I,
5:00
I
5:00
developed
5:01
a,
5:02
a
5:02
love
5:02
of
5:02
fishing
5:03
pretty
5:03
early
5:04
on
5:04
and
5:05
was
5:05
always
5:06
very
5:06
captivated
5:07
by
5:07
it,
5:08
the
5:08
places
5:08
it
5:09
took
5:09
me
5:09
and
5:09
the
5:09
people
5:10
it
5:10
connected
5:10
me
5:10
to.
5:11
But
5:11
once
5:12
I
5:12
started
5:12
fly
5:12
fishing
5:13
that,
5:13
that
5:13
opened
5:14
up
5:14
key
5:15
doors
5:15
that
5:15
I,
5:15
I
5:16
didn't
5:16
know
5:16
were
5:16
there
5:16
and
5:17
really,
5:18
really
5:19
intrigued
5:19
me
5:20
to
5:20
a
5:20
point
5:20
of
5:20
yeah.
5:21
Where
5:21
you
5:21
could
5:21
call
5:21
it
5:21
something
5:22
like
5:22
ruining
5:23
life
5:23
or
5:23
making
5:24
it
5:24
better.
5:24
Could
5:25
go
5:25
either
5:25
way
5:25
depending
5:26
on
5:26
what
5:26
timeline
5:27
you
5:27
use.
5:28
Yeah,
5:28
obsessions
5:29
have
5:29
a
5:29
way
5:29
of
5:29
Doing
5:29
that,
5:29
right?
5:30
They
5:30
do,
5:31
absolutely.
5:32
Yeah.
5:32
And
5:32
so,
5:33
you
5:33
know,
5:33
who
5:33
are
5:33
some
5:33
of
5:34
the
5:34
folks
5:34
that
5:34
have
5:34
mentored
5:34
you
5:35
on
5:35
your
5:35
fly
5:35
fishing
5:35
journey
5:36
and
5:36
what
5:36
have
5:36
they
5:36
taught
5:36
you?
5:38
On
5:38
my
5:38
journey
5:39
with
5:39
a
5:39
fly
5:39
rod,
5:39
it
5:40
would
5:40
be
5:42
unfair
5:43
for
5:43
me
5:43
to
5:43
say
5:44
that
5:44
my,
5:45
my
5:45
current
5:45
employer
5:46
and
5:46
boss,
5:46
Mike
5:47
Schultz,
5:48
he
5:48
obviously
5:49
a
5:49
mentor
5:49
of
5:49
mine
5:50
in
5:50
a
5:50
lot
5:50
of
5:50
ways.
5:50
He's
5:51
taught
5:51
me
5:53
an
5:53
insane
5:53
amount.
5:54
I've
5:55
learned
5:55
a
5:55
ton
5:55
through
5:56
him
5:56
and
5:56
he's,
5:56
he's
5:57
definitely
5:57
helped
5:57
cultivate
5:58
my,
5:59
where
5:59
I
5:59
sit
6:00
currently
6:00
in
6:00
the,
6:00
in
6:01
the
6:01
realm
6:01
of
6:01
things
6:01
and
6:02
inside
6:02
of
6:02
the
6:02
industry.
6:03
Greg
6:04
Senio
6:05
obviously
6:05
is
6:05
another
6:05
one
6:06
who's
6:06
a
6:06
big
6:07
influential
6:08
piece
6:08
of
6:08
my
6:09
lifetime,
6:10
especially
6:10
my
6:11
adult
6:11
lifetime.
6:12
I
6:12
have
6:12
an
6:12
old
6:13
family
6:14
friend
6:15
who
6:16
I,
6:17
I
6:17
owe
6:17
a
6:18
little
6:18
bit
6:18
to
6:18
in
6:18
the
6:18
starting
6:19
end
6:19
of
6:19
things.
6:19
He,
6:20
he
6:20
kind
6:21
of
6:21
gave
6:21
me
6:21
some
6:21
points
6:22
and
6:22
tips
6:22
and
6:23
those
6:24
guys
6:24
definitely
6:24
helped
6:25
bring
6:25
me
6:25
into
6:26
a
6:26
whole
6:26
new
6:26
tier
6:27
of
6:27
things.
6:27
I
6:28
had
6:28
a
6:28
good
6:28
friend
6:28
growing
6:29
up.
6:29
His
6:29
father
6:30
actually
6:30
was
6:31
a
6:31
very
6:31
avid
6:32
flying
6:32
where
6:32
his
6:33
name
6:33
was
6:33
Chuck,
6:33
Chuck
6:34
King.
6:34
And
6:35
he,
6:36
he
6:36
kind
6:36
of
6:36
took
6:36
me
6:37
under
6:37
his
6:37
wing
6:37
and
6:38
let
6:38
me
6:38
borrow
6:39
gear
6:39
and
6:40
gave
6:40
me
6:40
tips
6:41
and,
6:41
you
6:41
know,
6:41
kept
6:42
my
6:42
head
6:42
in
6:42
the
6:42
game
6:43
and
6:44
kept
6:44
me
6:44
moving
6:44
forward
6:45
with
6:45
it.
6:46
Fly
6:46
tying
6:47
especially,
6:47
that
6:47
was
6:48
one
6:48
that
6:48
I,
6:48
when
6:48
I
6:49
believe
6:49
it
6:49
or
6:49
not,
6:49
actually
6:50
when
6:50
I
6:50
got
6:50
started
6:51
fly
6:51
pying,
6:52
I
6:52
bought
6:53
a
6:53
deep
6:54
starter
6:54
fly
6:55
tying
6:55
kit
6:55
from,
6:56
I
6:56
believe
6:56
it
6:56
was
6:57
at
6:57
Bass
6:57
Pro
6:57
Shop.
6:58
So
6:58
it
6:58
would
6:58
have
6:58
been
6:58
their
6:58
White
6:59
river
7:00
fly
7:00
shop
7:00
that
7:01
they
7:01
have
7:01
in
7:01
their
7:02
locations.
7:02
And
7:03
this
7:03
was
7:03
long
7:04
and
7:04
not
7:05
incredibly
7:06
long
7:06
ago,
7:06
but
7:06
you
7:07
know,
7:07
I'm
7:07
35,
7:08
so
7:08
this
7:08
was
7:08
in
7:09
my
7:09
teen
7:09
years
7:09
and
7:10
this
7:10
was
7:10
back
7:10
when
7:10
VHSs
7:11
were
7:12
still
7:12
a
7:12
thing.
7:13
And
7:13
I
7:13
remember
7:13
that
7:14
kit
7:14
came
7:14
with
7:14
a
7:15
VHS
7:16
that
7:16
had
7:17
an
7:17
instructional
7:18
on
7:19
how
7:19
to
7:19
tie
7:19
the
7:20
six
7:20
or
7:20
eight
7:21
different
7:21
patterns
7:22
that
7:22
they
7:22
had
7:22
in
7:22
the
7:23
kit.
7:23
But
7:24
the
7:24
materials
7:25
in
7:25
the
7:25
kit
7:25
were
7:25
really,
7:26
really
7:28
poor
7:28
in
7:29
terms
7:29
of
7:29
quality.
7:30
They
7:30
were
7:30
definitely
7:31
the
7:31
bottom
7:32
of
7:32
the
7:32
barrel.
7:32
And
7:33
the
7:33
vise
7:33
was
7:34
a
7:34
really
7:35
cheap
7:35
kind
7:35
of
7:35
get
7:36
starter,
7:36
basic
7:37
clamp,
7:37
the
7:38
tools,
7:38
the
7:38
bob
7:39
and
7:39
the
7:39
scissors.
7:39
And
7:40
I
7:40
remember
7:41
getting
7:41
extremely
7:42
frustrated
7:43
with
7:43
it
7:43
when
7:44
I
7:44
got
7:44
started,
7:44
almost
7:45
to
7:45
the
7:45
point
7:45
of
7:45
where
7:46
I
7:47
wanted
7:47
to
7:47
give
7:47
up
7:47
on
7:48
it.
7:48
And
7:49
at
7:49
the
7:49
time
7:49
this
7:50
was,
7:50
this
7:50
was
7:51
in
7:51
the,
7:51
the
7:51
age
7:51
of
7:52
the
7:52
early.
7:52
Well,
7:53
I
7:53
have
7:53
to
7:53
be
7:54
the
7:54
earlier
7:54
Internet,
7:55
but
7:55
when
7:56
form
7:56
boards
7:57
were
7:57
a,
7:57
a
7:57
more
7:58
common
7:58
thing.
7:59
And
7:59
I
7:59
remember
8:00
I,
8:00
I
8:00
had
8:01
joined
8:01
a
8:02
form
8:02
board
8:02
on
8:02
me
8:03
for
8:04
Winston
8:04
fly
8:05
rods
8:05
actually.
8:06
And
8:07
there
8:07
was
8:07
a
8:07
lot
8:07
of
8:08
older
8:08
gentlemen
8:08
on
8:08
that
8:09
form.
8:09
And
8:09
I
8:09
remember
8:10
I
8:10
had
8:10
made
8:11
a
8:11
post
8:11
on
8:11
there,
8:11
just
8:12
kind
8:13
of
8:13
airing
8:13
out
8:14
my
8:14
dirty
8:14
laundry,
8:15
so
8:15
to
8:15
speak,
8:15
of
8:15
how
8:16
I
8:16
was
8:16
really
8:16
struggling
8:17
with
8:17
it
8:17
and
8:17
how
8:17
I,
8:18
I
8:18
was
8:19
entertaining
8:19
the
8:19
idea
8:19
of
8:20
just
8:20
donating
8:20
a
8:21
kit
8:21
to
8:21
somebody
8:21
else
8:22
that
8:22
might
8:22
want
8:22
to
8:22
use
8:22
it
8:23
because
8:23
I,
8:24
I
8:24
didn't
8:24
really
8:24
think
8:24
that
8:25
it
8:25
was
8:25
for
8:25
me
8:26
and
8:26
a
8:26
gentleman
8:27
on
8:27
there.
8:27
And
8:27
I
8:28
pains
8:28
me
8:28
to
8:28
this
8:29
day,
8:29
I
8:29
do
8:29
not
8:29
remember
8:30
his
8:30
name.
8:30
But
8:31
he,
8:32
he
8:32
reached
8:33
out
8:33
to
8:33
me
8:33
privately
8:34
on
8:34
there
8:34
on
8:34
a,
8:35
on
8:35
a
8:35
private
8:35
message
8:36
and
8:36
he
8:36
asked
8:36
me
8:36
for
8:37
my
8:37
parents
8:37
address
8:38
and
8:38
I
8:39
sent
8:39
him
8:39
my
8:39
parents
8:40
address.
8:41
And
8:41
about
8:41
a
8:41
week
8:42
and
8:42
a
8:42
half
8:42
later,
8:43
a
8:44
big
8:44
box
8:44
filled
8:45
up
8:45
on
8:45
my
8:45
parents
8:46
porch.
8:46
My
8:46
dad
8:47
came
8:47
to
8:47
my
8:47
room
8:48
and
8:48
he
8:48
said,
8:48
cor,
8:49
there's
8:50
a
8:50
package
8:51
outside
8:51
with
8:51
your
8:52
name
8:52
on
8:52
it.
8:53
I'm
8:53
not
8:53
too
8:54
sure
8:54
where
8:54
it's
8:55
from.
8:55
Did
8:55
you
8:56
order
8:57
something?
8:57
And
8:57
I
8:57
said
8:57
no,
8:58
I
8:58
didn't
8:58
order
8:59
anything.
9:00
I
9:00
was
9:00
a
9:00
kid,
9:00
I
9:01
didn't
9:01
have
9:01
much
9:01
money.
9:02
And
9:03
I
9:03
opened
9:04
the
9:04
box
9:04
and
9:04
there
9:04
was
9:04
a
9:04
handwritten
9:05
note
9:05
in
9:05
the
9:05
box
9:06
from
9:06
this
9:06
gentleman
9:07
on
9:07
this
9:07
form
9:07
board.
9:07
He
9:08
was
9:08
a
9:08
retired,
9:09
retired
9:09
from
9:10
the
9:10
Navy,
9:10
I
9:10
believe.
9:11
And
9:11
he
9:11
lived,
9:12
I
9:12
want
9:13
to
9:13
say
9:13
he
9:13
had
9:13
retired
9:14
and
9:14
he
9:14
was
9:14
living
9:15
in
9:15
Hawaii,
9:15
but
9:16
he
9:16
had
9:16
a
9:16
stop
9:17
here
9:17
in
9:18
the
9:18
lower
9:18
48
9:19
that
9:19
he
9:19
must
9:19
have
9:20
had
9:20
a
9:20
good
9:20
relationship
9:21
with.
9:21
And
9:22
he
9:22
had
9:22
called
9:23
them
9:23
up
9:23
and
9:23
he,
9:23
he
9:24
basically
9:24
had
9:24
them
9:25
assemble
9:25
a
9:25
package
9:26
of
9:26
materials
9:26
from
9:27
the
9:27
shop
9:27
and
9:27
he
9:27
sent
9:28
them
9:28
all
9:28
to
9:28
my
9:28
house.
9:29
And
9:30
from
9:30
that
9:31
day
9:31
on,
9:31
like
9:32
having
9:32
access
9:32
to
9:33
better
9:33
materials
9:34
and
9:35
getting
9:35
some
9:35
positive
9:36
encouragement
9:37
from
9:37
him
9:37
along
9:38
with
9:38
some
9:38
of
9:38
the
9:38
other
9:38
guys
9:39
on
9:39
that
9:39
form
9:39
board,
9:40
I,
9:41
I
9:41
was
9:42
able
9:43
to
9:43
figure
9:44
out
9:44
a
9:44
way
9:44
to
9:45
find
9:45
joy
9:45
in
9:45
it
9:46
and
9:47
maintain
9:48
my
9:48
course.
9:48
And
9:49
here
9:49
I
9:49
am.
9:50
I
9:50
wish
9:51
to
9:51
this
9:51
day
9:51
I,
9:51
I
9:52
joke
9:52
about
9:52
it
9:52
often
9:53
when
9:53
I'm
9:53
teaching
9:53
fly
9:54
tying
9:54
classes.
9:55
I
9:55
wish
9:55
I
9:56
could
9:56
give
9:56
that
9:56
man
9:56
a
9:57
hug
9:57
and
9:57
shake
9:57
his
9:57
hand
9:58
and
9:59
just,
9:59
you
9:59
know,
9:59
be
10:00
able
10:00
to
10:00
show
10:00
him,
10:01
hey,
10:01
you,
10:01
look
10:01
what
10:01
you
10:02
spawned.
10:02
You
10:02
know,
10:03
you
10:03
have
10:03
a,
10:03
a
10:04
young
10:04
man
10:04
who
10:04
ended
10:05
up
10:05
growing
10:05
up
10:05
to
10:05
be
10:06
a
10:07
full
10:07
time
10:07
manager
10:08
of
10:08
a,
10:08
you
10:09
know,
10:09
a
10:10
fly
10:10
shop
10:10
here
10:10
in
10:11
Michigan
10:11
that,
10:11
you
10:12
know,
10:12
fly
10:12
tying,
10:12
as
10:13
you
10:14
know
10:14
from
10:14
being
10:15
out
10:15
here
10:15
at
10:15
Bobbin,
10:16
is
10:16
a,
10:16
a
10:16
massive
10:17
part
10:17
of
10:17
our
10:17
business.
10:18
And
10:19
to
10:19
be
10:19
a
10:19
part
10:20
of
10:20
that
10:20
is
10:20
really
10:20
cool.
10:21
But
10:21
I,
10:21
I
10:21
look
10:22
back
10:22
on
10:22
that
10:22
and
10:22
I
10:22
think
10:23
about
10:23
that
10:23
often
10:23
as
10:24
I've
10:24
grown
10:24
older
10:24
and
10:25
how
10:25
grateful
10:25
I
10:25
am
10:26
that
10:26
he
10:26
was
10:26
willing
10:27
to
10:27
do
10:27
that
10:27
for
10:27
me.
10:28
He
10:28
really
10:29
kept
10:29
the
10:30
spark
10:30
going
10:30
and
10:32
built
10:32
that
10:33
lifelong
10:33
obsession
10:34
out
10:34
of
10:34
it.
10:35
So
10:35
I
10:35
think
10:36
about
10:36
that
10:36
often.
10:37
Yeah,
10:37
that's
10:38
pretty
10:38
neat.
10:38
I
10:38
think
10:38
it's
10:38
amazing.
10:39
I
10:39
think
10:39
people
10:39
sometimes
10:40
forget
10:40
the
10:41
power
10:41
of
10:41
like,
10:42
you
10:42
know,
10:42
small
10:43
kindnesses,
10:43
right?
10:44
Oh,
10:44
huge.
10:46
You
10:46
know,
10:46
and
10:46
it's
10:47
amazing.
10:47
It's
10:47
Always
10:47
good
10:48
for
10:48
your
10:48
fishing
10:48
karma,
10:49
right?
10:50
Absolutely,
10:50
absolutely.
10:52
So,
10:52
you
10:52
know,
10:53
it's
10:53
interesting,
10:53
I
10:53
know
10:54
you're,
10:54
you
10:54
know,
10:54
like
10:54
so
10:54
many
10:55
guys
10:55
in
10:55
the
10:55
shop,
10:55
you're
10:55
a
10:56
native
10:56
Michiganer.
10:57
I
10:57
hope
10:57
I
10:57
got
10:57
that
10:57
right.
10:57
I'm
10:58
a
10:58
Southerner,
10:58
so
10:58
if
10:58
I
10:58
got
10:59
it
10:59
wrong,
10:59
I
10:59
apologize.
11:00
Yeah,
11:00
yeah.
11:00
No,
11:01
Nate.
11:01
Native.
11:01
Born
11:02
and
11:02
bred
11:02
metro
11:02
Detroit.
11:03
Yeah.
11:03
And
11:04
so,
11:04
you
11:04
know,
11:04
one
11:04
of
11:04
the
11:05
interesting
11:05
things
11:05
is,
11:06
I
11:06
mean,
11:06
if
11:06
you
11:06
are,
11:08
you
11:08
know,
11:08
a
11:09
sportsman,
11:09
Michigan
11:10
is
11:10
a
11:10
super
11:10
special
11:11
place.
11:11
And
11:11
you
11:11
know,
11:12
for
11:12
folks
11:12
that
11:12
haven't
11:12
had
11:12
a
11:13
chance
11:13
to
11:13
kind
11:13
of
11:13
visit
11:14
the
11:14
mitten,
11:15
why
11:15
don't
11:15
you
11:16
kind
11:16
of
11:16
tell
11:16
folks
11:16
kind
11:16
of
11:17
the
11:17
whole
11:17
culture
11:18
of
11:18
like,
11:18
you
11:18
know,
11:18
the
11:18
lower
11:19
part
11:19
of
11:19
the
11:19
state
11:19
and
11:19
the
11:20
upper
11:20
part
11:20
of
11:20
the
11:20
state
11:20
and
11:20
what
11:21
makes
11:21
it,
11:21
you
11:21
know,
11:22
awesome
11:22
not
11:22
just
11:22
for
11:22
angling,
11:23
but
11:23
for
11:23
hunting
11:23
as
11:24
well?
11:25
Yeah,
11:25
it's,
11:25
it's,
11:26
it's
11:26
an
11:26
absolute
11:26
Mecca.
11:27
I,
11:27
I
11:28
feel
11:28
very
11:28
blessed
11:28
mo
11:29
most
11:29
days
11:29
to
11:30
be
11:30
here
11:30
and
11:30
to
11:31
live
11:32
in
11:32
this
11:32
state
11:32
that's
11:33
just
11:33
very
11:34
abundant
11:34
in
11:34
opportunities.
11:36
I,
11:36
Michigan
11:36
is
11:37
a
11:37
incredible
11:38
place.
11:38
I
11:38
think
11:38
one
11:39
of
11:39
the,
11:39
one
11:39
of
11:39
the
11:39
keynotes
11:40
that
11:40
stands
11:40
out
11:41
for
11:41
me
11:41
and
11:41
what
11:41
I,
11:42
I
11:42
tell
11:42
a
11:42
lot
11:42
of
11:43
people
11:43
that
11:43
travel
11:43
here
11:43
to
11:44
fish
11:44
or
11:44
are
11:44
entertaining.
11:45
The
11:45
idea
11:45
of
11:45
traveling
11:46
here
11:46
to
11:46
fish
11:46
is,
11:47
is
11:48
that
11:48
variety,
11:49
variety
11:49
is
11:50
a
11:50
spice
11:50
of
11:50
life,
11:50
as
11:51
many
11:51
say.
11:51
And
11:52
there's
11:52
not
11:52
really
11:53
too
11:53
much
11:53
here
11:54
in
11:54
terms
11:54
of
11:54
species
11:55
that
11:55
we
11:55
don't
11:55
have.
11:57
You
11:57
know,
11:57
we
11:57
have
11:58
everything
11:58
in
11:59
Michigan
11:59
from
12:00
really
12:01
technical
12:01
dry
12:02
fly
12:02
trout
12:02
fishing
12:03
to
12:05
in
12:05
absolutely
12:06
awe
12:07
inspiring
12:08
warm
12:08
water
12:09
opportunity.
12:09
You
12:10
know,
12:10
with
12:10
everything
12:10
in
12:11
between.
12:11
Several
12:11
of
12:12
the
12:12
sampid
12:12
species
12:13
as
12:13
well
12:13
as
12:13
the,
12:14
your
12:14
steelhead
12:16
and
12:17
a
12:17
ton
12:17
of
12:17
really
12:18
cool
12:18
native
12:18
species
12:19
and
12:19
obviously
12:19
kind
12:20
of
12:20
being
12:21
slapped
12:22
right
12:22
in
12:22
the
12:22
middle
12:22
of
12:22
the
12:23
Great
12:23
Lakes.
12:23
Your,
12:24
your
12:24
mecca
12:25
extends
12:25
in
12:25
every
12:26
direction.
12:27
So
12:27
no
12:28
shortage
12:28
of
12:28
water
12:29
here.
12:29
Uh,
12:30
I,
12:30
I,
12:31
I
12:31
joke
12:31
with
12:31
people
12:32
often
12:32
that
12:33
you,
12:34
you
12:34
couldn't
12:35
learn
12:36
Michigan
12:36
in
12:36
a
12:37
lifetime.
12:37
I
12:38
don't
12:38
think
12:38
that
12:39
if
12:39
you
12:40
had
12:40
every
12:40
day
12:40
of
12:40
your
12:41
life
12:41
to
12:41
fish
12:41
and
12:42
go
12:42
explore,
12:42
you
12:42
could
12:43
really
12:43
fine
12:43
tune
12:44
and
12:44
dial
12:44
every
12:44
fishery
12:45
and
12:45
watershed
12:46
that
12:46
we
12:46
have
12:46
here.
12:47
Uh,
12:47
there's
12:48
just
12:48
so
12:48
much
12:49
opportunity
12:49
in
12:50
so
12:50
many
12:50
different
12:50
corners.
12:51
You
12:52
can
12:52
go
12:52
uncover
12:53
manholes
12:54
and
12:54
find
12:54
your
12:54
way
12:55
into
12:55
that.
12:55
It,
12:55
it,
12:56
it
12:56
really
12:56
always
12:56
keeps
12:57
you
12:57
guessing
12:57
and
12:57
learning.
12:58
And
12:58
the
12:59
great
12:59
lake
12:59
systems
13:00
are
13:00
a
13:00
big
13:00
part
13:00
of
13:00
my
13:02
early
13:02
adult
13:03
life
13:03
and
13:03
kind
13:04
of
13:04
places
13:05
that
13:05
I've
13:05
found
13:06
a
13:06
lot
13:06
of
13:06
my
13:06
real
13:06
love
13:07
and
13:07
connecting
13:07
with
13:08
nature
13:09
between
13:09
Lake
13:09
Huron,
13:10
Lake
13:10
Superior,
13:11
Lake
13:11
Michigan,
13:12
Lake
13:12
Erie
13:13
now
13:14
can
13:14
after
13:15
two
13:15
years
13:16
ago,
13:16
the
13:16
first
13:16
time
13:16
I
13:16
got
13:17
to
13:17
fish
13:17
on
13:17
Lake
13:17
Ontario.
13:18
But
13:19
you
13:19
know,
13:19
between
13:19
all
13:20
those
13:20
great
13:20
lake
13:20
systems,
13:21
it's,
13:22
it's
13:22
it's
13:23
endless
13:23
in
13:23
terms
13:23
of
13:24
opportunity
13:24
and
13:25
what
13:25
you
13:25
can
13:25
do
13:25
and
13:26
what
13:26
you
13:26
want
13:27
to
13:27
pursue.
13:27
And
13:28
the
13:28
seasonal
13:29
changes,
13:31
sometimes,
13:32
you
13:32
know,
13:32
they.
13:33
They
13:33
dictate
13:33
the
13:34
species
13:34
that
13:34
you
13:34
target.
13:35
But
13:35
ultimately,
13:36
most
13:36
of
13:36
these
13:36
fish
13:37
species
13:37
you
13:37
can
13:37
target
13:38
most
13:38
of
13:38
the
13:38
year
13:38
here,
13:39
even
13:39
in
13:39
the
13:39
dead
13:39
of
13:39
winter.
13:41
Sometimes
13:41
you
13:41
have
13:41
to
13:41
drill
13:42
holes
13:42
to
13:42
do
13:43
so.
13:43
But
13:44
there's
13:44
usually
13:44
always
13:45
open,
13:45
moving
13:46
water
13:46
to
13:46
be
13:47
found
13:47
and
13:47
to
13:47
find
13:48
some
13:48
type
13:48
of
13:49
enjoyment
13:49
and
13:49
fun
13:49
within.
13:50
So
13:51
the
13:51
variety
13:51
is
13:52
a
13:52
big
13:52
selling
13:52
point
13:52
for
13:53
me
13:53
and
13:53
why
13:53
I.
13:54
I
13:54
think
13:54
anyone
13:55
that
13:55
really
13:55
likes
13:55
to
13:56
fish
13:57
would
13:57
find
13:58
Michigan,
13:59
you
13:59
know,
13:59
to
13:59
be
13:59
a
14:00
wonderful
14:00
place
14:01
and
14:01
can
14:01
find
14:02
a
14:02
lot
14:02
of
14:02
great
14:02
opportunity
14:03
within
14:03
it.
14:05
Hunting.
14:05
Yeah,
14:06
it's
14:06
obviously,
14:06
I'm
14:07
not.
14:07
I
14:07
don't
14:08
do
14:08
a
14:08
ton
14:08
of
14:08
hunting
14:08
myself,
14:09
but
14:09
obviously
14:10
have
14:10
a
14:10
lot
14:10
of
14:10
friends
14:10
and
14:11
family
14:11
that
14:11
do.
14:11
And
14:12
we
14:12
have
14:12
some
14:12
really
14:13
awesome
14:13
whitetail
14:14
hunting
14:14
here.
14:14
We
14:14
have
14:15
a
14:15
smaller
14:16
elk
14:16
population
14:17
in
14:17
the
14:17
northern
14:17
range
14:18
of
14:18
the
14:18
state,
14:19
and
14:19
we
14:19
have
14:19
some
14:20
really
14:20
good
14:20
grouse
14:21
and
14:21
woodcock
14:21
opportunity.
14:23
Along
14:23
with
14:23
your
14:24
waterfowl
14:25
through
14:25
the
14:26
Lake
14:26
Erie
14:27
and
14:27
Sinclair
14:28
up
14:28
into
14:28
Lake
14:29
Huron,
14:29
there's
14:29
some
14:30
really
14:30
incredible
14:31
migration
14:32
routes
14:32
for
14:32
a
14:32
lot
14:32
of
14:32
the
14:33
waterfall.
14:33
So
14:34
there
14:34
is
14:34
a
14:35
ton
14:35
of
14:35
opportunity
14:35
for
14:36
things
14:36
to
14:36
do
14:36
on
14:36
the
14:37
sportsman
14:37
end
14:37
of
14:38
things
14:38
here.
14:38
And
14:38
that's
14:39
probably
14:40
why
14:40
I'll
14:40
end
14:40
up
14:40
being
14:40
here
14:41
for
14:41
the
14:41
remainder
14:41
of
14:42
my
14:42
life.
14:42
I
14:42
tell
14:43
people
14:44
jokingly
14:44
that
14:45
I
14:45
think
14:45
if
14:45
Michigan
14:45
had
14:46
a
14:46
good
14:46
set
14:46
of
14:47
mountains,
14:47
I.
14:48
I
14:48
honestly
14:49
would
14:49
put
14:49
it
14:49
up
14:50
as
14:50
being
14:50
one
14:50
of
14:50
the
14:50
coolest
14:51
states
14:51
anywhere.
14:52
Just
14:53
that's
14:53
the
14:53
one
14:53
thing
14:54
we
14:54
lack
14:54
here,
14:54
is
14:55
we
14:55
don't
14:55
have
14:55
the
14:56
high
14:57
mountain
14:57
range
14:57
anywhere.
14:58
We
14:58
have
14:58
some
14:59
what
14:59
most
15:00
people
15:00
consider
15:00
foothills
15:01
in
15:01
comparison
15:02
to
15:02
real
15:02
mountains.
15:03
But
15:04
we
15:05
really
15:05
do
15:05
have
15:05
everything
15:06
you
15:06
need
15:06
from
15:06
an
15:06
angling
15:07
standpoint.
15:08
And
15:09
we'll
15:09
always
15:09
keep
15:10
you
15:10
busy
15:10
guessing
15:11
and
15:11
learning
15:11
more.
15:12
Yeah,
15:13
I
15:13
think
15:13
what's
15:13
really
15:13
amazing
15:14
too,
15:14
is,
15:14
I
15:14
mean,
15:14
you
15:15
don't
15:15
have
15:15
to
15:15
get
15:16
very
15:16
far
15:17
north
15:17
of,
15:18
you
15:18
know,
15:18
Grand
15:18
Rapids
15:19
or
15:19
Detroit
15:19
to
15:20
kind
15:20
of
15:20
escape
15:20
civilization
15:21
either.
15:22
Oh,
15:22
no,
15:22
it's.
15:23
It's
15:23
not
15:24
far
15:24
at
15:24
all.
15:24
I
15:24
mean,
15:24
there's
15:25
even
15:25
down
15:25
where
15:25
we
15:25
are
15:26
near
15:26
the
15:26
shaft
15:26
here.
15:27
I
15:27
mean,
15:27
we're.
15:27
Southeastern
15:28
Michigan
15:29
is
15:29
where
15:29
we're
15:29
based.
15:30
We're
15:31
about
15:31
30
15:31
minutes
15:32
outside
15:32
of
15:33
Detroit.
15:35
There
15:35
is
15:36
opportunity
15:36
within
15:37
an
15:37
hour
15:37
of
15:37
here
15:38
to
15:38
where
15:38
you
15:38
can
15:38
go.
15:39
And
15:39
you
15:40
have
15:41
solitude
15:42
and
15:43
quiet
15:43
terrain,
15:44
and
15:44
it's.
15:45
You.
15:45
You
15:45
wouldn't
15:45
know
15:46
you
15:46
were
15:46
so
15:46
close
15:46
to
15:47
a
15:47
big
15:47
metropolitan
15:48
area
15:48
when
15:48
you're
15:49
there.
15:49
And
15:49
then
15:49
the
15:50
further
15:50
you
15:51
go
15:51
north,
15:51
the
15:51
more
15:52
solitude
15:52
you
15:52
can
15:53
find.
15:53
And
15:53
then
15:53
we
15:53
have
15:53
the
15:54
luxury
15:54
of
15:55
another
15:55
peninsula
15:56
that
15:56
sits
15:56
above
15:57
us
15:57
that's
15:57
connected
15:58
via
15:58
Bridge,
15:59
Michigan's
16:00
Upper
16:00
Peninsula,
16:00
which
16:01
is.
16:02
I
16:02
call
16:02
it
16:02
the
16:02
Holy
16:03
Land
16:03
because
16:03
it's,
16:04
it's
16:04
like
16:04
going
16:05
back
16:05
in
16:05
time.
16:05
A
16:06
lot
16:06
of
16:06
the
16:06
time
16:07
when
16:07
you
16:07
go
16:07
up
16:07
there
16:07
in
16:08
terms
16:08
of
16:09
how
16:09
the
16:09
people
16:09
live,
16:09
how
16:10
the
16:10
communities
16:10
are
16:11
set
16:11
up
16:11
and
16:11
how
16:12
the,
16:12
the
16:12
wilderness
16:13
is.
16:13
It's
16:13
very
16:13
wild
16:14
and
16:14
pure
16:14
and
16:14
untamed.
16:16
Yeah.
16:17
Pretty
16:17
neat.
16:17
And
16:17
so,
16:17
you
16:18
know,
16:18
I
16:18
was
16:18
doing
16:19
research
16:19
for
16:19
the
16:19
interview.
16:20
I
16:20
didn't
16:21
realize
16:21
that
16:21
you'd
16:21
been
16:21
at
16:22
Schultzes
16:22
for
16:23
over
16:23
a
16:23
decade
16:24
and
16:24
I
16:24
was
16:24
kind
16:24
of
16:24
curious
16:24
if
16:25
you
16:25
could
16:25
kind
16:25
of
16:25
let
16:25
folks
16:25
know
16:26
kind
16:26
of
16:26
how
16:26
you,
16:27
how
16:27
you
16:27
made
16:27
it
16:28
to
16:28
the
16:28
shop.
16:29
Crazy.
16:29
It's.
16:30
It's
16:30
hard
16:30
to
16:30
believe
16:31
it's.
16:31
It's
16:31
been
16:31
that
16:32
many
16:32
years
16:32
now.
16:32
It
16:33
feels
16:33
like
16:33
it's
16:33
gone
16:33
by
16:34
in
16:34
the
16:34
blink
16:34
of
16:34
an
16:34
eye.
16:35
But
16:35
yeah,
16:36
going
16:36
on.
16:36
This
16:36
is
16:37
my
16:37
12th
16:37
year
16:37
being
16:38
employed
16:38
here
16:38
and
16:39
being
16:39
a
16:39
part
16:39
of
16:39
this
16:39
business.
16:40
So
16:41
been
16:41
really
16:41
cool
16:42
to
16:42
see
16:42
the
16:42
growth
16:43
and
16:44
where
16:44
we've
16:44
made
16:44
it
16:45
to
16:45
today.
16:46
And
16:47
that's
16:47
really
16:47
nice
16:48
for
16:48
me
16:48
because
16:49
I,
16:49
Smallmouse,
16:50
growing
16:50
up
16:50
on
16:51
Lake
16:51
Sinclair
16:51
were
16:52
definitely
16:52
kind
16:52
of
16:52
one
16:52
of
16:52
my
16:53
Kickstarter
16:53
species
16:54
and
16:55
they've
16:55
been
16:55
a.
16:56
Held
16:56
a
16:56
very
16:57
strong
16:58
piece
16:58
of
16:58
real
16:58
estate
16:59
in
16:59
my
16:59
heart
16:59
and
16:59
my
16:59
soul
17:00
for
17:00
most
17:00
of
17:00
my
17:01
childhood
17:01
up
17:01
to
17:02
my
17:02
adult
17:02
life.
17:02
So
17:03
to
17:03
be
17:03
a
17:03
part
17:03
of
17:03
a
17:03
shop
17:04
that
17:05
is
17:06
primarily
17:06
focused
17:07
on
17:07
smallmouth
17:08
bass
17:08
is,
17:08
Is
17:09
very
17:09
cool.
17:09
It's.
17:10
It's
17:10
been
17:10
an
17:10
awesome
17:10
ride.
17:12
Yeah,
17:12
absolutely.
17:13
And
17:13
I
17:13
know
17:13
you
17:13
said
17:14
you
17:14
manage
17:14
the
17:14
shop,
17:14
you
17:15
want
17:15
to
17:15
kind
17:15
of
17:15
give
17:15
folks
17:16
a
17:16
little
17:16
bit
17:16
more
17:16
of
17:16
an
17:16
idea
17:16
of
17:17
what
17:17
you
17:17
do
17:17
and
17:17
I
17:17
guess.
17:17
Does
17:17
that
17:18
include
17:18
the
17:18
G
17:18
side
17:18
as
17:19
well?
17:20
Yeah.
17:20
So
17:20
I,
17:21
I
17:21
originally
17:22
hired
17:22
in
17:23
here
17:23
actually
17:23
kind
17:24
of
17:24
on.
17:24
On
17:24
a
17:24
part
17:25
time
17:25
basis.
17:26
I.
17:26
I
17:26
tustered
17:27
Mike
17:27
a
17:27
little
17:27
bit.
17:28
I
17:28
was
17:28
working
17:29
part
17:29
time.
17:30
I.
17:30
I
17:30
took
17:30
a
17:30
job
17:31
up
17:31
in
17:31
Alaska
17:32
and
17:32
I
17:32
worked
17:33
there
17:33
for
17:34
a
17:34
short
17:34
period
17:35
of
17:35
time
17:35
and
17:35
things
17:36
didn't
17:36
quite
17:36
work
17:36
out
17:37
the
17:37
way
17:37
they
17:37
needed
17:37
to.
17:38
Consider
17:39
me
17:39
kind
17:39
of
17:39
young
17:39
and
17:40
dumb
17:40
at
17:40
that
17:40
time.
17:41
Between
17:42
some
17:42
poor
17:42
decision
17:43
making
17:43
and
17:44
not
17:44
really
17:44
figuring
17:45
out
17:45
what
17:45
I
17:45
wanted
17:45
to
17:46
be
17:46
doing
17:46
up
17:46
there.
17:46
I
17:47
ended
17:47
up
17:47
leaving
17:48
early
17:48
and
17:48
came
17:49
back
17:49
home
17:50
and
17:50
Mike
17:51
had
17:51
just
17:51
opened
17:51
the
17:52
shop.
17:53
I
17:53
want
17:53
to
17:53
say
17:53
probably
17:54
about
17:55
six,
17:56
maybe
17:56
seven
17:56
months
17:57
prior
17:57
to
17:57
when
17:57
I
17:57
came
17:58
back.
17:59
And
17:59
I
17:59
had
18:00
come
18:00
into
18:00
the
18:01
shop
18:01
a
18:01
few
18:01
times
18:02
and
18:02
really
18:02
enjoyed
18:02
it
18:03
and
18:03
liked
18:03
the
18:03
vibe,
18:04
obviously,
18:04
really
18:04
loved
18:05
the
18:05
whole
18:05
warm
18:05
water
18:06
program
18:06
and
18:07
that
18:07
was
18:07
something
18:07
that
18:07
I,
18:08
I
18:08
was
18:09
kind
18:09
of
18:09
focused
18:10
on
18:10
at
18:10
that
18:10
time
18:10
and
18:11
wanted
18:11
to
18:12
learn
18:12
more
18:12
about
18:12
and
18:13
I
18:13
could
18:13
see
18:13
Mike
18:14
from
18:14
afar
18:15
doing
18:15
what
18:16
he
18:16
was
18:16
doing
18:16
and
18:17
really
18:17
liked
18:17
it.
18:18
And
18:18
was
18:18
attracted
18:19
to
18:19
it.
18:19
And
18:19
I
18:20
reached
18:20
out
18:20
to
18:21
him
18:21
and
18:21
said,
18:21
hey,
18:21
you
18:21
know,
18:21
if
18:22
you
18:22
need
18:22
somebody
18:22
to
18:22
come
18:23
in
18:23
and
18:23
help
18:24
out,
18:24
clean
18:24
up
18:25
and
18:25
sweep
18:25
floors,
18:26
I'm
18:26
good
18:26
at
18:26
cleaning
18:26
and
18:27
organizing
18:27
and
18:28
I'll
18:28
work
18:28
for
18:29
free
18:29
if
18:29
you
18:29
need
18:29
me
18:30
to.
18:30
Just
18:30
to
18:31
kind
18:31
of
18:31
get
18:31
my
18:31
foot
18:31
in
18:32
the
18:32
door.
18:32
And
18:33
just
18:33
happened
18:33
to
18:33
work
18:33
out
18:34
that
18:35
a
18:36
young
18:36
woman
18:36
who
18:37
worked
18:37
here
18:37
before
18:37
I
18:38
became
18:38
employed,
18:39
her
18:39
name
18:39
was
18:39
Katie,
18:40
she
18:41
was
18:41
actually
18:41
leaving
18:42
to
18:42
take
18:43
a
18:43
job
18:43
to
18:43
work
18:44
for
18:44
Orvis.
18:45
And
18:45
they
18:46
were
18:46
looking
18:47
for
18:47
somebody
18:47
to
18:47
kind
18:48
of
18:48
step
18:48
in
18:48
and
18:48
help
18:49
fill
18:49
some
18:49
time
18:50
in
18:50
the
18:50
shop.
18:50
And
18:51
I
18:51
was
18:51
able
18:52
to
18:52
get
18:52
for
18:53
some
18:54
lucky
18:55
grace
18:55
there
18:55
on
18:56
Mike's
18:56
behalf
18:56
wanted
18:57
he
18:57
was
18:57
willing
18:57
to
18:57
give
18:57
me
18:58
a
18:58
shot
18:58
and
18:58
brought
18:59
me
18:59
in
18:59
and
19:00
the
19:00
rest
19:00
is
19:01
history.
19:01
So
19:02
I've
19:02
been
19:02
here
19:03
now,
19:03
you
19:03
know,
19:03
like
19:04
I
19:04
said,
19:04
go
19:04
past
19:04
12
19:05
years.
19:06
I
19:07
run
19:07
a
19:08
good
19:08
majority
19:08
and
19:09
handle
19:10
a
19:10
good
19:10
bulk
19:11
of
19:11
our
19:11
inventory
19:12
management.
19:13
So
19:13
I'm
19:13
in
19:14
charge
19:14
of
19:14
ordering,
19:15
reordering,
19:16
making
19:16
sure
19:17
we
19:17
stay
19:17
flush
19:18
in
19:18
here
19:18
on
19:18
the
19:18
walls
19:19
and
19:19
we
19:20
have
19:20
what
19:20
we
19:20
need
19:20
in
19:21
stock
19:21
here
19:22
for
19:22
customers
19:23
summit
19:23
in
19:23
to
19:24
pick
19:24
out
19:24
goods.
19:25
G
19:25
side,
19:26
I
19:26
don't,
19:26
I
19:27
help
19:27
and
19:27
contribute
19:28
quite
19:28
a
19:28
bit
19:28
to
19:29
the
19:29
ordering
19:29
and
19:29
product
19:30
importing
19:31
for
19:31
that
19:31
stuff.
19:32
But
19:33
we
19:33
have
19:33
a
19:34
younger
19:34
gentleman
19:34
by
19:35
the
19:35
name
19:35
of
19:35
Matt
19:35
who
19:35
works
19:36
here
19:36
who's
19:37
kind
19:37
of
19:37
the,
19:38
the
19:38
lead
19:39
man
19:39
on
19:39
that.
19:39
He
19:39
does
19:40
a.
19:40
A
19:40
fair
19:40
bit
19:40
more
19:41
of
19:41
it
19:41
than
19:41
I
19:41
do.
19:41
Like
19:41
I
19:42
said
19:42
earlier,
19:43
I
19:43
do
19:43
a
19:43
bit
19:43
of
19:44
both
19:44
conventional
19:44
and
19:45
fly
19:45
fishing.
19:45
I.
19:46
I
19:46
slip
19:47
Bill
19:47
quite
19:47
a
19:47
bit
19:48
with
19:48
him
19:48
on
19:49
that.
19:49
But
19:49
yeah,
19:50
so
19:51
that's
19:51
my
19:51
overall
19:52
duty
19:52
and
19:52
responsibility
19:53
here.
19:54
Yeah,
19:54
it's,
19:54
it's
19:54
an
19:55
amazing
19:55
thing.
19:55
I
19:55
mean,
19:56
for
19:56
folks
19:56
that
19:56
haven't
19:56
been
19:56
in
19:57
the
19:57
shop,
19:57
I
19:57
mean,
19:57
I
19:57
would
19:58
say,
19:58
you
19:58
know,
19:58
two
19:59
things.
19:59
First
19:59
of
20:00
all,
20:00
you
20:00
know,
20:01
I
20:01
mean,
20:01
the
20:01
tying
20:01
stuff
20:02
is
20:02
just
20:02
incredible.
20:03
Right.
20:04
But
20:04
then
20:05
the
20:05
other
20:05
thing
20:05
too
20:05
is,
20:06
you
20:06
know,
20:06
it's
20:06
so
20:07
hard
20:07
to
20:07
find
20:07
shops
20:08
that
20:08
will
20:08
have,
20:09
you
20:09
know,
20:10
four
20:10
or
20:10
five
20:10
or
20:11
six
20:11
different
20:11
rod
20:11
manufacturers
20:12
and
20:13
four
20:13
or
20:13
five
20:13
different
20:13
reels.
20:14
I
20:14
mean,
20:15
you
20:15
guys
20:15
have
20:16
really
20:16
have
20:16
it
20:16
all
20:17
in
20:17
a
20:17
really
20:17
pretty
20:18
compact
20:18
space.
20:19
Definitely.
20:20
I
20:20
mean
20:20
we've
20:21
grown.
20:21
We.
20:22
For
20:22
those
20:23
that
20:23
are
20:23
listening
20:23
that
20:23
have
20:24
never
20:24
set
20:24
foot
20:24
in
20:24
the
20:25
store,
20:25
we,
20:25
we
20:25
started
20:26
with
20:27
two
20:27
rooms
20:27
to
20:28
begin
20:28
in
20:28
the
20:28
building
20:28
that
20:29
we're
20:29
in
20:29
where
20:29
now
20:29
we
20:30
branched
20:30
into
20:30
four
20:31
total
20:31
rooms.
20:32
So
20:32
it's
20:32
went
20:33
from
20:33
two
20:33
to
20:33
four.
20:34
Grown
20:35
a
20:35
little
20:35
bit.
20:35
But
20:35
yeah,
20:36
overall
20:36
it's
20:36
not
20:36
a
20:36
massive
20:37
piece
20:37
of
20:37
real
20:38
estate,
20:38
but
20:39
we
20:39
definitely
20:39
pack
20:39
it
20:40
in
20:40
here
20:40
pretty
20:40
tight.
20:40
As
20:40
you
20:41
know,
20:41
you've.
20:41
You've
20:41
been
20:42
here
20:42
to
20:42
the
20:42
shop,
20:42
you've
20:42
seen
20:43
it
20:43
and
20:44
you
20:44
have
20:44
variety
20:44
back
20:45
to
20:45
that
20:46
thing
20:46
we
20:46
were
20:46
talking
20:46
about
20:47
earlier.
20:47
You
20:47
know,
20:47
variety
20:48
is
20:48
this
20:48
place
20:48
of
20:49
life,
20:49
and
20:49
I'm
20:49
a
20:49
firm
20:49
believer
20:50
that
20:50
it's
20:51
important
20:51
to
20:51
give
20:51
people
20:52
options
20:52
and
20:52
to
20:53
have
20:53
a
20:54
variety
20:54
of
20:54
things
20:54
for
20:55
people
20:55
to
20:55
come
20:55
and
20:55
see
20:56
and
20:56
test
20:57
out.
20:57
So
20:57
that's
20:57
kind
20:58
of,
20:58
you
20:58
know,
20:58
I
20:59
think
20:59
why,
20:59
over
20:59
the
20:59
years
21:00
we've
21:00
continued
21:00
to
21:01
expand
21:01
lines
21:02
and
21:02
have
21:02
more
21:02
product
21:03
variety
21:03
in
21:03
here.
21:03
I
21:04
think
21:04
it's
21:04
a
21:04
very
21:05
valuable
21:05
asset
21:06
to
21:06
our
21:06
business.
21:07
Yeah,
21:08
and
21:08
I
21:08
think
21:08
too,
21:08
you
21:09
know,
21:09
you
21:09
know,
21:10
the
21:10
tying
21:10
stuff
21:10
is
21:11
amazing,
21:11
but
21:11
I
21:11
think,
21:11
you
21:12
know,
21:12
the
21:12
subset
21:12
of
21:12
that,
21:12
the
21:13
natural
21:13
stuff,
21:13
is
21:14
really
21:14
incredible.
21:14
And,
21:15
you
21:15
know,
21:15
so
21:15
there
21:15
are
21:16
only
21:16
probably
21:16
two
21:17
or
21:17
three
21:17
places
21:17
in
21:18
the
21:18
States
21:18
I
21:18
would
21:18
even
21:19
trust
21:19
to
21:19
call
21:19
and
21:20
say
21:20
I
21:20
want
21:20
to
21:20
get
21:21
hackle
21:22
or,
21:22
you
21:22
know,
21:23
fur
21:23
or
21:23
hair
21:24
and,
21:24
like,
21:24
trust
21:25
that
21:25
what
21:25
I
21:25
got
21:25
was
21:26
going
21:26
to
21:26
be
21:26
what
21:26
I
21:26
needed.
21:27
But,
21:27
you
21:27
know,
21:27
it's
21:28
amazing
21:28
what
21:28
you
21:28
guys
21:29
have
21:29
and
21:29
the
21:29
quality
21:29
of
21:29
the
21:30
stuff
21:30
that's
21:30
hanging
21:30
on
21:30
the
21:30
wall.
21:31
Definitely.
21:32
Yeah.
21:32
And
21:32
we,
21:33
we
21:33
work,
21:33
I
21:33
would
21:33
say
21:34
we
21:34
work
21:34
pretty
21:34
diligently
21:35
to
21:35
maintain
21:36
that.
21:36
That
21:36
pace
21:37
with
21:37
things
21:37
and
21:37
that
21:38
it's.
21:38
It's
21:38
definitely
21:38
a
21:39
labor
21:39
of
21:39
love.
21:39
But
21:40
obviously
21:40
when
21:41
you
21:41
have
21:41
a,
21:42
you
21:42
know,
21:42
a
21:42
big
21:42
part
21:42
of
21:43
that
21:43
is
21:43
our
21:43
team
21:43
here.
21:44
We
21:44
have
21:44
a
21:44
really
21:44
good
21:44
group
21:45
of
21:45
guys
21:46
that
21:46
work
21:47
on
21:47
the
21:47
floor
21:47
and
21:47
on
21:48
the
21:48
back
21:48
end
21:48
of
21:48
things,
21:48
along
21:49
with
21:49
our
21:49
guide
21:49
staff.
21:50
So
21:50
they
21:50
all
21:50
kind
21:51
of
21:51
work
21:51
together
21:51
in
21:51
harmony
21:52
and
21:53
help
21:53
support
21:53
that
21:54
train
21:54
to
21:54
keep
21:54
it
21:55
all
21:55
rolling.
21:55
And
21:56
that,
21:56
that's
21:56
definitely
21:57
something
21:57
I
21:57
have
21:58
with
21:58
a
21:59
lot
21:59
of
21:59
our
21:59
customers,
22:00
is
22:00
people
22:00
know
22:00
they
22:01
can
22:01
trust
22:01
us
22:01
and
22:02
come
22:02
to
22:02
us
22:02
for
22:03
questions
22:03
and
22:04
for
22:04
help
22:04
selecting
22:05
materials.
22:06
We're
22:06
going
22:06
to
22:06
give
22:07
them
22:07
exactly
22:07
what
22:07
they
22:08
need.
22:08
That's
22:08
a.
22:09
Something
22:09
I
22:09
definitely
22:10
take
22:10
a
22:10
lot
22:10
of
22:10
pride
22:10
in
22:11
here
22:11
in
22:11
our
22:11
business,
22:12
and
22:12
I'm
22:12
very
22:12
proud
22:13
of
22:13
our
22:13
team
22:13
for
22:14
how
22:14
well
22:15
they
22:15
all
22:15
synchronize
22:16
to
22:16
make
22:16
that
22:16
happen.
22:17
Yeah,
22:18
it's
22:18
amazing.
22:18
It's
22:18
a
22:19
super
22:19
high
22:19
concentration
22:20
of
22:20
very,
22:20
very
22:21
fishy
22:21
people.
22:22
Right?
22:23
Definitely.
22:23
Yep.
22:24
We've
22:24
lucked
22:24
into
22:24
a
22:24
lot
22:25
of
22:25
good
22:25
ones
22:25
over
22:25
the
22:26
years
22:26
and
22:26
thankfully
22:27
not
22:27
a
22:27
high
22:27
turnover
22:28
right
22:28
here
22:28
in
22:28
our
22:29
shop.
22:29
So
22:30
most
22:30
of
22:30
the
22:30
people
22:30
that
22:31
are
22:31
employed
22:31
here,
22:32
we've
22:32
added
22:32
a
22:33
few
22:33
new
22:33
faces
22:33
and
22:34
a
22:34
few
22:34
have
22:34
left
22:34
us
22:35
over
22:35
the
22:35
years,
22:35
you
22:35
know,
22:35
to
22:36
pursue
22:36
other
22:36
things.
22:37
But
22:37
a
22:37
lot
22:38
of
22:38
the
22:38
people
22:38
that
22:38
have
22:38
been
22:39
here
22:39
have
22:39
been
22:39
here
22:39
for
22:39
a
22:39
very
22:40
long
22:40
time
22:40
and,
22:41
you
22:42
know,
22:42
hopefully
22:42
plan
22:43
to
22:43
be
22:43
here
22:43
for
22:44
quite
22:44
some
22:44
time
22:44
in
22:44
the
22:45
future.
22:45
Yeah,
22:45
absolutely.
22:46
And,
22:46
you
22:46
know,
22:46
so
22:47
it's
22:47
kind
22:47
of
22:47
funny
22:47
watching
22:48
on
22:48
social
22:48
media,
22:49
you
22:49
still
22:49
have
22:49
snow
22:50
on
22:50
the
22:50
ground,
22:50
but
22:50
it
22:50
looks
22:51
like
22:51
things
22:51
are,
22:52
you
22:52
know,
22:52
thawing
22:53
out
22:53
pretty
22:53
well.
22:53
But
22:53
before
22:54
we
22:54
get
22:54
to
22:54
the
22:54
fishing,
22:54
I
22:54
was
22:55
kind
22:55
of
22:55
curious,
22:55
you
22:55
know,
22:55
is
22:55
tying
22:56
season
22:56
sort
22:56
of
22:57
wrapping
22:57
up?
22:57
Anything
22:58
interesting
22:58
happen
22:59
at
22:59
the
22:59
vice
22:59
for
22:59
you
22:59
this
23:00
winter?
23:01
Oh,
23:02
I
23:02
actually,
23:02
believe
23:03
it
23:03
or
23:03
not,
23:03
I
23:04
this
23:05
winter
23:05
I
23:05
probably
23:07
did
23:07
a,
23:08
a
23:08
little
23:08
bit
23:08
less
23:08
tying
23:09
than
23:09
I
23:09
normally
23:10
do.
23:10
I
23:11
got
23:11
a
23:11
little
23:12
bit
23:12
heavier
23:12
over
23:13
the
23:13
last
23:13
couple
23:13
years
23:14
into
23:14
the,
23:15
I
23:16
don't
23:16
want
23:16
to
23:16
call
23:16
it
23:16
commercial
23:17
end
23:17
of
23:17
fly
23:18
tying
23:18
because
23:18
I
23:18
don't
23:19
quite
23:19
rank
23:19
myself
23:20
with
23:20
actual
23:21
commercial
23:21
fly
23:21
tires.
23:22
I
23:22
know
23:22
quite
23:23
a
23:23
few
23:23
of
23:23
them
23:23
and
23:23
I,
23:24
I
23:24
never
23:24
really
23:25
reached
23:25
the
23:25
output
23:26
that
23:26
most
23:26
of
23:26
those
23:26
guys
23:27
were
23:27
kicking
23:27
out.
23:27
But
23:28
I
23:28
was
23:28
doing
23:29
a
23:29
lot
23:29
of
23:29
custom
23:30
orders
23:30
for
23:30
people
23:31
and
23:32
I
23:32
don't
23:32
want
23:32
to
23:32
say
23:33
I
23:33
got
23:33
burnt
23:33
out
23:33
on
23:34
it,
23:34
but
23:34
fly
23:35
tying
23:35
kind
23:35
of
23:35
became
23:36
something
23:36
that
23:37
it,
23:38
it,
23:38
it
23:38
didn't
23:39
excite
23:39
me
23:39
quite
23:40
as
23:40
much
23:40
as
23:40
it
23:40
did
23:41
before.
23:41
I
23:41
was
23:41
tying
23:42
flies
23:42
for
23:42
money,
23:43
if
23:43
that
23:43
makes
23:43
sense.
23:44
So
23:44
this
23:45
winter
23:45
was
23:45
kind
23:46
of
23:46
a
23:46
nice
23:46
reset
23:46
for
23:47
me.
23:47
And
23:47
I
23:47
was
23:47
actually
23:48
funny
23:48
because
23:48
you,
23:49
you
23:49
know,
23:49
you
23:49
were
23:49
here
23:50
for
23:50
our
23:50
Bob
23:50
in
23:50
the
23:50
Hood
23:51
event
23:51
in
23:51
February
23:52
and
23:52
that
23:52
was,
23:54
that
23:54
was
23:54
like
23:54
my
23:55
re
23:55
spark
23:55
with
23:55
things
23:56
with
23:56
fly
23:56
tying.
23:57
That
23:57
really
23:58
seeing
23:59
all
23:59
those
23:59
guys
23:59
together
24:00
here
24:00
having
24:01
a
24:01
good
24:01
time,
24:02
seeing
24:03
all
24:03
the
24:04
just
24:04
insane
24:05
database
24:06
of
24:06
wisdom
24:06
and
24:07
knowledge
24:07
and
24:08
thousands
24:08
and
24:09
thousands
24:09
of
24:09
countless
24:10
hours
24:10
spent
24:11
on
24:11
the
24:11
water
24:11
from
24:12
guys
24:12
all
24:13
around
24:13
the
24:13
Midwest
24:14
and
24:14
beyond,
24:14
that
24:15
kind
24:15
of
24:15
reignited
24:16
my
24:16
passion
24:16
a
24:17
little
24:17
bit
24:17
and
24:18
have
24:18
been
24:18
back
24:19
on
24:19
the
24:19
vice
24:19
a
24:19
little
24:19
bit
24:20
more.
24:21
A
24:22
little
24:22
bit
24:22
more
24:22
avidly
24:23
here
24:23
as
24:24
of
24:24
late.
24:24
So
24:25
not
24:25
so
24:25
much
24:26
in
24:26
any
24:26
interesting
24:27
flies.
24:27
But
24:27
definitely,
24:28
you
24:28
know,
24:28
personally,
24:29
it
24:30
was
24:30
nice
24:30
this
24:30
year
24:30
to
24:31
take
24:31
a
24:31
little
24:32
bit
24:32
of
24:32
time
24:32
to
24:32
reset
24:33
a
24:33
little
24:33
bit
24:33
and
24:33
then
24:34
kind
24:34
of
24:34
get
24:34
back
24:34
into
24:35
the
24:35
groove
24:35
of
24:35
things.
24:36
Thanks.
24:36
You
24:36
know,
24:37
thanks
24:37
to
24:37
the
24:38
amazing
24:39
amount
24:39
of
24:39
talent
24:40
and
24:40
just
24:40
overall
24:41
love
24:41
that
24:41
we
24:41
had
24:42
here
24:42
at
24:42
for
24:42
bobbin
24:43
this
24:43
year.
24:43
So
24:44
that
24:44
was
24:44
pretty
24:44
cool.
24:45
Yeah,
24:45
absolutely.
24:46
And
24:46
you
24:46
know,
24:46
people
24:47
will
24:47
kill
24:47
me
24:47
if
24:47
I
24:48
don't
24:48
ask
24:48
you
24:48
how
24:48
the
24:48
pre
24:49
spawn
24:49
smally
24:49
bite
24:50
is
24:50
this
24:50
spring.
24:51
We're
24:51
not
24:51
there
24:52
yet,
24:52
man.
24:52
I
24:52
gotta
24:53
be
24:53
honest
24:53
with
24:53
you.
24:53
We're,
24:54
we,
24:54
we
24:55
Michigan,
24:55
for
24:55
those
24:56
of
24:56
you
24:56
who
24:56
haven't
24:57
spent
24:57
a
24:57
lot
24:57
of
24:57
time
24:58
up
24:58
here,
24:58
may
24:59
not
24:59
reside
24:59
here.
25:00
We,
25:01
our
25:01
springs
25:02
really
25:03
do
25:03
vary
25:03
every
25:04
year
25:05
as
25:06
they
25:06
do
25:06
in
25:06
most
25:06
places.
25:07
But
25:07
our,
25:07
our
25:08
weather,
25:08
I,
25:08
I,
25:09
I
25:09
say
25:09
often
25:10
that
25:11
we
25:11
experience
25:12
maybe
25:13
one
25:13
to
25:14
two
25:14
months
25:14
of
25:14
each
25:14
season.
25:15
And
25:15
then
25:15
everything
25:15
else
25:16
in
25:16
between
25:16
is
25:17
just
25:17
swing
25:17
weather.
25:18
And
25:18
this,
25:19
this
25:19
March
25:20
has
25:20
been
25:20
no
25:21
different
25:21
from
25:21
years
25:22
past.
25:22
Last
25:22
year
25:22
we
25:23
had
25:23
a
25:23
pretty
25:23
warm
25:23
March
25:24
where
25:24
things
25:24
got
25:24
going
25:25
a
25:25
little
25:25
bit
25:25
earlier.
25:26
But
25:26
this
25:26
Year
25:27
we've,
25:27
we,
25:27
we've
25:28
seen
25:28
a
25:28
few
25:28
warmups.
25:29
But
25:29
Tom,
25:30
most
25:30
of
25:30
our
25:30
rivers
25:31
right
25:31
now
25:31
are
25:31
still
25:32
temping
25:32
in
25:32
the
25:33
40s.
25:34
Some
25:34
of
25:35
them
25:35
have
25:35
tickled
25:36
that
25:36
50
25:36
mark.
25:37
And
25:37
on
25:37
those
25:37
really
25:37
warm
25:38
sunny
25:38
days
25:38
you
25:39
might
25:39
get
25:39
some
25:39
stuff
25:39
that
25:40
maybe
25:41
creeps
25:41
up
25:41
into
25:41
that
25:42
50
25:42
degree
25:42
mark.
25:43
But
25:43
overall
25:43
most
25:44
of
25:44
our
25:44
stuff
25:44
is
25:44
still
25:45
sitting
25:45
in
25:45
that
25:46
mid,
25:46
mid
25:47
40
25:47
range,
25:48
the
25:48
upper
25:48
40s.
25:49
So
25:50
our,
25:50
our
25:50
pre,
25:50
our
25:51
real
25:51
troop
25:51
Fawn,
25:52
as
25:52
far
25:52
as
25:52
I'm
25:53
concerned,
25:53
doesn't
25:54
really
25:54
get
25:54
started
25:54
until
25:55
we
25:55
stake
25:55
and
25:56
in
25:56
that
25:56
upper
25:56
40
25:57
deck
25:57
and
25:58
we
25:58
just
25:58
haven't
25:59
quite
25:59
been
25:59
there
25:59
yet.
26:00
So
26:01
we're,
26:01
we're
26:01
picking
26:02
away
26:02
at
26:02
things
26:02
right
26:03
now.
26:03
But
26:03
April,
26:04
based
26:04
on
26:04
the
26:04
weather
26:05
deck
26:05
and
26:05
the
26:05
forecast
26:06
that
26:06
they're
26:07
throwing
26:07
our
26:07
way,
26:07
it
26:07
looks
26:08
like
26:08
we're
26:08
about
26:08
to
26:09
get
26:09
rid
26:09
of
26:09
our
26:10
last
26:10
cold
26:10
night
26:11
weather
26:11
here,
26:11
which
26:11
is
26:12
really
26:12
what
26:12
I
26:12
think
26:12
holds
26:13
things
26:13
back.
26:14
And
26:14
the
26:14
weather's
26:15
going
26:15
to
26:15
start
26:15
to
26:16
kick
26:16
a
26:16
little
26:16
bit.
26:16
So
26:17
April's
26:18
usually
26:18
always
26:18
a
26:18
phenomenal
26:19
month
26:20
to
26:20
be
26:20
a
26:20
fisherman
26:21
in
26:21
general
26:21
here
26:22
in
26:22
Michigan,
26:22
but
26:22
especially
26:23
to
26:23
be
26:23
a
26:23
smallmouth
26:24
fisherman.
26:25
So
26:25
we're,
26:26
we're
26:26
waiting
26:26
on
26:26
it
26:27
still.
26:27
Man,
26:27
everybody's
26:28
excited
26:28
and
26:29
kind
26:29
of
26:30
gnawing
26:30
at
26:30
the
26:30
bit,
26:31
so
26:31
to
26:31
speak.
26:31
Our
26:31
guides
26:32
have
26:32
been
26:32
on
26:32
the
26:32
water
26:33
some,
26:33
quite
26:33
a
26:33
few
26:33
trips
26:34
have
26:34
been
26:34
run
26:34
up
26:34
to
26:35
this
26:35
point
26:35
and
26:35
fish
26:35
has
26:36
been
26:36
good.
26:36
Some
26:37
good
26:37
fish
26:37
have
26:37
come
26:37
into
26:38
the
26:38
bag
26:38
already
26:38
this
26:39
year.
26:39
But
26:39
we're
26:39
still,
26:40
we're
26:41
kind
26:41
of
26:41
on
26:41
that
26:41
early
26:42
cusp
26:42
of
26:42
things.
26:43
So
26:43
we're,
26:43
we're
26:44
looking
26:44
forward
26:44
to
26:44
April
26:45
as
26:45
we
26:45
enter
26:45
it,
26:46
you
26:46
know,
26:46
first
26:46
say
26:46
today
26:46
of
26:47
the
26:47
month.
26:47
So
26:48
a
26:48
lot
26:48
of
26:48
good
26:49
pace
26:49
to
26:49
come.
26:50
Yeah,
26:50
that's
26:50
pretty
26:50
interesting
26:51
because
26:51
I
26:51
just
26:51
recorded
26:52
a
26:52
fishing
26:52
report
26:53
with
26:54
a
26:54
guide
26:54
in
26:54
southwest
26:55
Virginia
26:55
and
26:55
where,
26:56
you
26:56
know,
26:56
he's
26:56
like,
26:56
yeah,
26:57
we've
26:57
probably
26:57
got
26:57
about,
26:58
you
26:58
know,
26:58
two
26:58
weeks
26:58
till
26:59
they
26:59
start
26:59
spawning.
27:00
So.
27:00
Kind
27:00
of
27:00
funny.
27:01
Yeah.
27:02
Yep.
27:02
Yeah.
27:02
We
27:02
actually
27:03
were
27:03
unfortunate
27:04
to
27:04
have,
27:04
we've
27:04
had
27:04
some
27:05
very
27:05
mild
27:05
winters
27:06
the
27:06
last
27:06
few
27:06
years.
27:07
That,
27:08
that
27:08
kind
27:08
of
27:09
bums
27:09
me
27:09
because
27:09
I,
27:10
I
27:10
like
27:10
to,
27:10
I
27:10
like
27:11
the
27:11
ice
27:11
fish.
27:11
I,
27:12
I
27:12
like
27:12
to
27:12
take
27:12
my
27:13
kids
27:13
ice
27:13
fishing.
27:14
So
27:14
that's
27:15
a
27:15
good
27:15
way
27:15
to
27:15
kill
27:15
winter
27:16
days.
27:16
But
27:16
the
27:16
last
27:17
couple
27:17
years
27:17
have
27:17
been
27:18
absolutely
27:18
horrific
27:19
in
27:19
terms
27:20
of
27:20
ice
27:20
making
27:20
up
27:21
here.
27:21
We,
27:21
at
27:22
least
27:22
in
27:22
the
27:22
southern
27:22
end
27:23
of
27:23
the
27:23
state,
27:24
we
27:24
haven't
27:24
really
27:25
had
27:25
good
27:25
consistent
27:26
cold
27:26
weather.
27:26
This
27:27
year
27:27
was
27:27
our
27:27
first
27:28
winter
27:29
in
27:29
a
27:29
number
27:29
of
27:30
years.
27:30
Now
27:30
that
27:30
we've
27:31
actually
27:31
maintained
27:31
a
27:32
good
27:32
solid
27:32
ice
27:32
face
27:33
on
27:33
most
27:33
of
27:33
the
27:33
lakes
27:34
for
27:34
over
27:34
two
27:35
months,
27:36
which
27:36
was
27:36
nice,
27:36
you
27:37
know,
27:37
and
27:37
I
27:37
think
27:37
that's
27:38
a
27:38
necessity
27:39
for
27:39
how
27:39
our
27:40
ecosystems
27:40
work.
27:41
I
27:41
think
27:41
here
27:41
in
27:42
the
27:42
Midwest,
27:43
we.
27:43
We
27:43
kind
27:44
of
27:44
need
27:44
that
27:44
solid
27:45
winter
27:45
every
27:45
year
27:46
to
27:46
create
27:46
ice
27:46
and
27:47
keep
27:47
some
27:47
extra
27:47
water
27:48
in
27:48
the
27:48
lakes.
27:49
I
27:49
think
27:49
it's
27:49
just
27:50
a
27:50
big
27:50
part
27:50
of
27:50
the
27:51
natural
27:51
function
27:52
of
27:52
the
27:52
ecosystem.
27:53
So
27:53
it
27:53
was
27:53
good
27:53
to
27:53
get
27:53
back.
27:54
And
27:55
a
27:55
lot
27:55
of
27:55
the
27:55
guys,
27:56
you
27:56
know,
27:56
a
27:56
lot
27:56
of
27:56
people
27:56
I
27:57
talk
27:57
to,
27:57
you
27:57
know,
27:58
winter
27:58
is
27:58
always
27:58
kind
27:59
of
27:59
the
27:59
complain
28:00
and
28:00
moan
28:01
about
28:01
it,
28:01
you
28:01
know,
28:01
wishing
28:02
for
28:02
spring.
28:03
But
28:03
it's
28:04
part
28:04
of
28:04
our,
28:04
our
28:04
seasons
28:05
here.
28:05
And,
28:06
you
28:06
know,
28:06
you
28:06
either
28:06
love
28:07
it
28:07
or
28:07
you
28:07
hate
28:07
it.
28:07
But
28:08
I
28:08
was,
28:09
I
28:09
was
28:09
pretty
28:09
happy
28:10
and
28:10
grateful
28:10
that
28:10
we
28:10
were
28:10
able
28:11
to
28:11
log
28:11
a
28:11
nice
28:11
winter
28:12
this
28:12
year.
28:12
So
28:12
I
28:12
think
28:13
we're
28:13
still
28:13
kind
28:13
of
28:14
kicking
28:14
the
28:14
band
28:15
aid
28:15
off
28:15
from
28:15
that
28:16
and,
28:16
and
28:16
waiting
28:17
for
28:17
that
28:17
consistent
28:18
warm
28:18
weather
28:18
to
28:18
come.
28:19
Yeah,
28:20
there
28:20
you
28:20
go.
28:20
And
28:20
you
28:20
know,
28:21
so
28:21
while,
28:21
you
28:21
know,
28:21
other
28:22
guys
28:22
in
28:22
the
28:22
shop
28:22
are
28:23
chasing
28:23
smallmouth,
28:24
you've
28:24
dialed
28:25
in
28:25
the
28:25
carp
28:25
game,
28:26
right?
28:27
Yeah,
28:27
that's.
28:28
That's
28:28
been
28:28
a
28:28
big
28:29
part
28:29
of
28:30
my,
28:30
my
28:30
lifetime
28:31
as
28:31
an
28:31
adult
28:31
here,
28:32
fly
28:32
fishing.
28:33
Something
28:33
that
28:34
I've
28:35
taken
28:35
a
28:36
lot
28:36
of
28:38
enjoyment
28:38
out
28:39
of,
28:39
a
28:39
lot
28:39
of
28:39
learning.
28:40
It's.
28:40
It's
28:40
definitely
28:41
improved
28:41
my
28:41
abilities
28:42
as
28:42
an
28:42
angler.
28:43
And
28:44
carp,
28:44
I.
28:44
I
28:45
love
28:45
them
28:45
a
28:45
lot
28:45
for
28:46
a
28:46
variety
28:46
of
28:46
reasons,
28:47
but
28:47
one
28:48
of
28:48
the
28:48
reasons
28:48
I
28:48
really
28:48
like
28:49
them
28:49
is
28:49
they're
28:49
readily
28:50
available
28:51
in
28:51
most
28:51
places.
28:52
Common
28:53
carp
28:53
are.
28:55
Have
28:55
a
28:55
very
28:55
wide
28:55
distribution
28:56
base,
28:57
especially
28:58
in
28:58
the
28:58
lower
28:58
48
28:59
here.
28:59
Most
28:59
watersheds
29:00
you
29:00
can
29:00
find
29:00
them
29:01
in,
29:02
they're
29:02
pretty
29:02
resilient
29:03
fish,
29:03
so
29:03
they
29:03
can
29:04
live
29:04
in
29:04
poor
29:04
water
29:05
quality,
29:05
good
29:06
water
29:06
quality,
29:06
cold
29:07
water,
29:07
warm
29:07
water,
29:08
very
29:09
opportunistic
29:09
feeders.
29:10
So
29:11
they,
29:11
they've
29:12
definitely
29:12
drawn
29:12
me
29:13
in
29:13
over
29:13
the
29:13
years.
29:13
The
29:14
tech,
29:14
the
29:14
technical
29:15
end
29:15
of
29:15
fishing
29:16
for
29:16
them
29:16
is
29:17
something
29:17
I
29:17
always
29:17
enjoy.
29:18
And
29:18
they.
29:19
They
29:19
always
29:19
keep
29:20
it
29:20
guessing.
29:21
Yeah.
29:22
Very,
29:22
very
29:22
neat.
29:22
So
29:23
where
29:23
are
29:23
some
29:23
good
29:23
spots
29:24
kind
29:24
of
29:24
near
29:24
the
29:24
shop
29:25
to
29:25
go?
29:25
Chase
29:25
card.
29:27
We.
29:27
It's.
29:27
It's
29:29
a
29:29
very
29:29
flush
29:30
system
29:30
here
29:31
within
29:31
the
29:31
Huron.
29:32
Right.
29:32
That
29:32
our
29:33
shop
29:33
actually
29:33
resides
29:34
right
29:34
on
29:34
the
29:34
bank
29:34
of.
29:35
I
29:35
do
29:36
a
29:36
lot
29:36
of
29:36
my
29:36
fishing
29:36
here
29:37
in
29:37
the
29:37
river
29:38
right
29:38
near
29:38
the
29:38
shop,
29:39
both
29:40
upstream
29:40
and
29:40
downstream.
29:42
There's.
29:43
We
29:43
have
29:43
some
29:44
good
29:44
opportunity
29:45
in
29:45
some
29:45
of
29:45
the
29:45
local
29:45
inland
29:46
lakes.
29:46
And
29:46
then
29:47
Lake
29:47
Erie,
29:48
Lake
29:48
Sinclair
29:48
also
29:49
provides
29:49
some
29:49
really
29:50
good
29:50
opportunities
29:51
for
29:51
people
29:51
wanting
29:52
to
29:52
get
29:52
out
29:52
and
29:52
pursue
29:53
those
29:53
fish.
29:54
Yeah.
29:55
And
29:55
I
29:55
would
29:55
imagine
29:56
maybe
29:56
best
29:56
time
29:57
to
29:57
target
29:57
carp
29:58
kind
29:58
of
29:58
depends
29:58
on
29:58
where
29:58
you're
29:59
fishing
29:59
and
29:59
like,
29:59
whether
29:59
you're
30:00
in
30:00
the
30:00
river
30:00
or
30:00
you're
30:00
trying
30:00
to
30:00
get
30:01
them
30:01
up
30:01
on
30:01
a
30:01
flat
30:01
in
30:01
a
30:02
lake.
30:02
But,
30:02
you
30:03
know,
30:03
I'm
30:03
totally.
30:04
Yeah,
30:04
I
30:04
mean
30:04
so
30:04
for
30:05
me
30:05
my
30:05
only
30:05
carp
30:06
experience
30:06
is
30:06
blowing
30:07
shots
30:07
at
30:07
carp
30:07
on
30:08
smallmouth
30:08
trips.
30:09
So
30:10
but
30:11
you
30:11
know,
30:11
for,
30:11
for
30:12
people
30:12
that
30:12
are
30:12
trying
30:12
to
30:12
target
30:13
them
30:13
more
30:13
consistently
30:14
kind
30:14
of
30:14
what
30:14
are
30:14
the
30:14
good
30:15
times
30:15
to,
30:15
to
30:15
kind
30:16
of
30:16
make
30:16
a
30:16
point
30:16
of
30:16
chasing
30:17
them?
30:18
I
30:18
would
30:18
say
30:19
on
30:19
average
30:19
the
30:19
most
30:20
consistent
30:20
carp
30:21
fishing
30:21
you'll
30:21
find
30:21
is,
30:22
is
30:22
generally
30:22
going
30:23
to
30:23
run
30:23
in
30:23
that
30:23
summer
30:24
timeframe
30:25
for
30:25
us
30:26
here
30:26
I
30:26
would,
30:26
I
30:27
would
30:27
put
30:27
that
30:27
probably
30:29
May,
30:29
June,
30:29
July,
30:30
August.
30:31
Those
30:31
are
30:31
all
30:31
really
30:32
phenomenal.
30:32
Consistent
30:33
months
30:33
with
30:35
tend
30:35
to
30:35
have
30:35
more
30:35
consistent
30:36
flow
30:37
temperatures
30:38
tend
30:38
to
30:38
stay
30:38
a
30:39
little
30:39
bit
30:39
more
30:39
consistent.
30:40
Carp
30:41
function
30:41
and
30:41
feed
30:42
well
30:42
in
30:42
cold
30:43
water.
30:43
They
30:44
definitely
30:44
get
30:44
a
30:44
little
30:44
bit
30:45
more
30:45
lethargic
30:46
and
30:46
they
30:46
tend
30:46
to
30:46
break
30:47
away
30:47
from
30:47
high,
30:49
high
30:49
speed
30:50
current.
30:51
They'll,
30:52
they'll
30:52
tend
30:52
to,
30:53
they
30:53
don't
30:53
all
30:54
leave
30:54
the
30:54
river
30:54
in
30:55
the
30:55
cold
30:55
winter
30:55
months
30:56
but
30:56
the
30:56
majority
30:56
of
30:57
them
30:57
like
30:57
here
30:57
for
30:58
example
30:58
where
30:58
the
30:58
shop
30:59
is
30:59
located,
31:00
it's
31:00
a
31:00
pretty
31:00
short
31:00
stretch
31:01
of
31:01
river
31:01
and
31:01
then
31:01
it
31:02
dumps
31:02
into
31:02
a
31:02
small
31:03
reservoir.
31:04
Well
31:04
I
31:05
shouldn't
31:06
call
31:06
it
31:06
small.
31:06
It's
31:06
pretty
31:07
good
31:07
sized
31:07
lake
31:08
that's
31:08
part
31:09
of
31:09
the
31:09
Huron
31:09
system
31:10
here
31:10
in
31:10
impoundment
31:11
that
31:12
most
31:12
of
31:12
those
31:12
fish
31:13
will
31:13
kind
31:13
of
31:13
vacate
31:14
out
31:14
into
31:14
in
31:14
the
31:14
really
31:15
cold
31:15
months.
31:17
But
31:17
yeah,
31:17
I
31:17
would
31:17
definitely
31:18
say
31:18
it's
31:19
a
31:19
summer
31:19
game
31:20
for
31:20
consistency
31:21
for
31:21
most
31:21
people.
31:21
I,
31:23
I,
31:23
this
31:24
is
31:24
about
31:24
the
31:24
time
31:25
of
31:25
year
31:25
when
31:25
I'll
31:25
start
31:26
to
31:26
go
31:26
out
31:26
and
31:26
look
31:27
for
31:27
them.
31:27
I
31:27
actually
31:27
was
31:28
out
31:28
the
31:28
other
31:28
morning
31:29
just
31:29
kind
31:30
of
31:30
walking
31:30
the
31:30
bank
31:30
and
31:31
doing
31:31
a
31:31
little
31:31
bit
31:31
of
31:31
fun
31:31
fishing
31:32
and
31:33
saw
31:33
a
31:33
couple
31:34
of
31:34
my
31:34
first
31:34
fish
31:35
in
31:36
shallower
31:37
water,
31:38
more
31:39
active
31:40
on
31:40
the
31:40
feed
31:41
front
31:41
which
31:41
was
31:41
really
31:42
cool
31:42
to
31:42
see.
31:42
Those
31:42
were
31:43
some
31:43
of
31:43
the
31:43
first
31:43
of
31:43
the
31:44
year
31:44
that
31:44
I,
31:44
I
31:45
was
31:45
able
31:45
to
31:45
go
31:45
watch
31:46
and
31:46
put
31:46
eyes
31:47
on.
31:47
I
31:48
tend
31:48
to
31:48
these
31:48
days
31:49
leave
31:49
them
31:49
alone
31:50
until
31:50
the
31:51
water
31:51
gets
31:51
to
31:52
into
31:52
that
31:52
50
31:53
degree
31:53
mark.
31:54
Just
31:54
because
31:54
they
31:55
do
31:56
they
31:56
are
31:56
a
31:56
little
31:56
more
31:57
lethargic
31:57
and
31:57
they,
31:58
they
31:58
still
31:58
fight
31:58
and
31:58
pull
31:59
hard
31:59
when
31:59
it's
31:59
cold.
32:00
But
32:00
I,
32:01
I
32:01
enjoy
32:01
their
32:01
energy
32:02
levels
32:02
a
32:02
little
32:03
bit
32:03
more
32:03
when
32:03
the
32:03
water's
32:04
a
32:04
little
32:04
bit
32:04
warmer.
32:05
They,
32:05
they
32:05
tend
32:05
to
32:06
give
32:06
you
32:06
a
32:06
little
32:06
better
32:06
show
32:07
and
32:08
you
32:09
gotta
32:09
put
32:09
the
32:09
brakes
32:09
on
32:10
em
32:10
a
32:10
little
32:10
bit
32:10
harder.
32:11
But
32:11
yeah,
32:11
overall
32:12
I
32:12
would
32:12
say
32:12
summertime
32:13
is
32:13
a,
32:13
is
32:14
probably
32:14
the
32:14
best,
32:14
most
32:15
consistent.
32:15
You
32:15
know,
32:16
time
32:16
to
32:16
target
32:16
those
32:17
fish
32:18
here
32:18
locally
32:19
and
32:19
your
32:19
inland
32:20
bodies
32:20
of
32:20
water,
32:21
whether
32:21
they
32:21
be
32:21
rivers
32:22
or
32:22
ponds
32:22
or
32:23
small
32:23
lakes.
32:24
And
32:24
then
32:24
the
32:24
Great
32:25
Lakes
32:25
stuff
32:25
which
32:25
we
32:26
do,
32:26
I
32:27
try
32:27
to
32:27
do
32:27
that
32:27
every
32:28
year.
32:28
I
32:28
really
32:28
love
32:29
doing
32:29
that.
32:29
Going
32:30
up
32:30
to
32:30
either
32:30
Lake
32:31
Michigan
32:31
or
32:31
Lake
32:32
Huron
32:33
and
32:33
targeting
32:33
those
32:34
fish
32:34
on
32:34
the,
32:35
the
32:35
more
32:35
flat
32:36
style
32:36
fishing
32:37
approach
32:38
that's,
32:39
that's
32:39
typically
32:40
more
32:40
of
32:40
a
32:40
summertime
32:41
game,
32:41
I
32:41
would
32:41
say
32:42
generally
32:42
speaking
32:43
that's,
32:44
you
32:44
can
32:44
get
32:44
into
32:45
those
32:45
fish
32:45
starting
32:46
in
32:46
May
32:46
out
32:46
there.
32:47
Water
32:47
temps
32:48
need
32:48
to
32:48
get
32:49
roughly
32:49
into
32:50
that,
32:50
you
32:50
know,
32:50
mid
32:51
60
32:52
point
32:52
before
32:52
those
32:53
fish
32:53
really
32:53
start
32:54
to
32:54
move
32:54
into
32:54
shallower
32:55
water
32:55
in
32:55
mass.
32:56
And
32:56
then
32:57
70
32:57
degree
32:57
water
32:58
is
32:58
generally
32:58
when
32:58
those
32:59
fish
32:59
are
33:00
really
33:00
going
33:00
to
33:00
start
33:00
to
33:01
push
33:01
in
33:01
shallow
33:01
and
33:02
feed
33:02
on
33:02
those
33:02
flats
33:03
and
33:03
get
33:03
ready
33:04
to
33:04
do
33:04
their
33:04
spawning.
33:05
Deal.
33:05
So
33:06
that's
33:06
typically
33:07
on
33:07
a
33:07
calendar.
33:08
It's
33:08
hard
33:08
to
33:08
pinpoint
33:09
it,
33:09
but
33:09
generally
33:09
June,
33:10
June
33:11
is
33:11
one
33:11
of
33:11
the
33:11
best
33:11
months
33:12
to
33:12
do
33:12
that
33:12
here
33:13
if
33:13
you're,
33:13
you're
33:13
doing
33:14
it,
33:14
you
33:14
know,
33:14
farther
33:14
north
33:15
on
33:15
the
33:15
bigger
33:15
lake.
33:16
Got
33:17
it.
33:17
And
33:17
do
33:17
you
33:17
have
33:18
anything
33:18
like,
33:18
you
33:18
know,
33:20
mulberry
33:20
hatches
33:21
or
33:21
cotton
33:21
seed
33:22
hatches,
33:22
anything
33:22
like
33:22
that
33:23
that
33:23
occurs
33:23
locally
33:24
that
33:24
really
33:24
kind
33:24
of
33:24
turns
33:25
the
33:25
carp
33:25
on?
33:26
Yeah,
33:26
we
33:26
get,
33:27
we
33:27
have
33:27
some
33:27
mulberry
33:28
fishing
33:28
here.
33:29
That's
33:29
really
33:29
cool.
33:30
That's,
33:31
that's
33:31
a
33:31
short
33:31
window
33:32
of
33:32
the
33:32
season
33:33
and
33:33
I,
33:34
I
33:34
tell
33:34
people
33:34
often
33:35
that
33:35
that's
33:35
a,
33:36
that's
33:37
an
33:37
enjoyable
33:37
time
33:37
to
33:38
catch
33:38
carp,
33:38
but
33:38
it's
33:39
not
33:39
a
33:39
really
33:39
good
33:39
time
33:39
for
33:40
somebody
33:40
who's
33:40
getting
33:40
started
33:41
with
33:41
it
33:41
mainly
33:42
because
33:42
it
33:42
doesn't
33:42
teach
33:43
you
33:43
a
33:43
lot
33:43
about
33:43
the
33:44
sis.
33:45
They,
33:46
those
33:46
fish
33:46
tend
33:46
to
33:47
behave
33:47
much
33:48
differently
33:48
when
33:48
they're
33:48
eating
33:49
no
33:49
fairies
33:49
than
33:50
they
33:50
do
33:50
the
33:50
rest
33:50
of
33:50
the
33:51
year.
33:52
So
33:52
it's,
33:52
it's
33:53
enjoyable.
33:53
I
33:54
like
33:54
to
33:54
do
33:54
it.
33:55
But
33:55
for
33:55
people
33:56
who
33:56
are,
33:56
you
33:56
know,
33:57
getting
33:57
their
33:57
feet
33:57
wet
33:58
in
33:58
the
33:58
game
33:58
of
33:58
carp
33:59
fishing
33:59
with
33:59
a
33:59
fly
34:00
rod,
34:00
I
34:00
would
34:01
suggest
34:01
that
34:01
they
34:02
try
34:02
to
34:02
find
34:03
fish
34:03
outside
34:04
of
34:04
those
34:04
things
34:05
just
34:05
because
34:06
I,
34:06
I
34:06
think
34:06
you'll
34:07
learn
34:07
a
34:07
lot
34:07
more
34:07
about
34:08
the
34:08
fish
34:08
and
34:08
their
34:08
behavior
34:09
and
34:09
how
34:10
they
34:10
typically
34:10
behave.
34:12
The
34:12
mulberry
34:13
thing
34:13
is
34:13
a
34:13
blast
34:13
though
34:14
and
34:14
we
34:14
do
34:14
have
34:15
some
34:15
good
34:15
opportunity
34:16
for
34:16
that
34:17
locally
34:17
around
34:17
here
34:18
which
34:18
I,
34:19
I
34:19
try
34:19
to
34:19
take
34:19
advantage
34:20
of.
34:20
And
34:20
that's
34:21
also
34:21
typically
34:21
a
34:21
summertime
34:22
thing.
34:22
Usually
34:23
June,
34:23
July.
34:24
Got
34:25
it.
34:25
And
34:25
so
34:25
in
34:25
terms
34:26
of
34:26
tackle,
34:26
you
34:26
know,
34:27
what's
34:27
your
34:28
preferred
34:28
kind
34:28
of
34:29
rod,
34:29
reel
34:29
and
34:29
leader
34:30
setup.
34:32
So
34:32
that's
34:33
going
34:33
to
34:33
vary
34:34
I
34:34
would
34:35
say
34:35
for
34:35
the
34:35
river
34:36
system
34:36
here
34:38
where
34:38
I
34:38
do
34:38
a
34:38
bulk
34:39
of
34:39
my
34:39
fishing,
34:40
I'm,
34:41
I'm
34:41
opting
34:41
for
34:41
a
34:42
6
34:42
weight.
34:43
I
34:44
generally
34:44
go
34:44
with
34:45
a
34:45
9
34:45
foot
34:46
saltwater
34:47
style
34:47
6
34:50
paired
34:50
with
34:51
a
34:51
floating
34:51
line,
34:52
good
34:53
quality
34:53
reel,
34:54
something
34:54
that
34:54
has
34:54
a
34:54
strong
34:55
drag.
34:56
Excuse
34:56
me,
34:58
just
34:58
getting
34:59
over
34:59
a
34:59
little
34:59
head
34:59
bug.
35:00
So
35:00
clear
35:01
Knox
35:01
system.
35:04
But
35:04
yeah,
35:04
nine
35:05
foot
35:05
six
35:05
weight.
35:06
I,
35:06
I
35:07
tended
35:07
to
35:07
steer
35:08
and
35:08
lean
35:08
towards
35:09
those
35:09
saltwater
35:10
style
35:10
sixes
35:10
which
35:11
are
35:11
the
35:11
full
35:11
wells
35:12
and
35:12
the
35:12
fighting
35:12
butt
35:13
gives
35:13
you
35:14
a
35:14
little
35:14
bit
35:14
more
35:14
pull
35:15
power
35:15
on
35:15
those
35:15
fish.
35:16
It
35:17
works
35:17
pretty
35:17
good.
35:18
Our
35:18
average
35:19
fish
35:19
here
35:19
in
35:19
the
35:20
river
35:20
system
35:20
is
35:21
probably
35:22
in
35:22
the
35:22
neighborhood
35:23
of
35:23
about,
35:23
you
35:23
know,
35:24
six
35:25
to
35:25
maybe
35:26
that
35:26
low
35:26
teen
35:27
mark
35:27
where
35:27
you,
35:27
you
35:28
know,
35:28
you
35:28
see
35:28
fish
35:28
that
35:29
are
35:29
10,
35:29
11,
35:30
12
35:30
pounds
35:31
and
35:31
there's
35:32
definitely
35:32
opportunity
35:33
for
35:33
larger
35:33
fish.
35:34
But
35:34
those
35:34
fish
35:35
tend
35:35
to
35:35
be
35:35
a
35:35
little
35:36
bit
35:36
smarter
35:36
and
35:37
tend
35:37
to
35:38
spend
35:38
time
35:38
in
35:38
different
35:39
places
35:39
and
35:39
are
35:39
a
35:40
little
35:40
bit
35:40
harder
35:40
generally
35:41
to
35:41
find
35:41
and
35:41
feed
35:42
with
35:42
a
35:42
fly.
35:44
But
35:44
the
35:44
6
35:44
is
35:45
pretty
35:45
comfortable
35:45
for
35:46
me.
35:46
I
35:47
enjoy
35:47
the
35:48
delicacy
35:49
of
35:49
the
35:49
rod.
35:49
It
35:49
allows
35:50
me
35:50
to
35:50
be
35:50
pretty
35:50
nimble
35:51
and
35:52
precise
35:53
with
35:53
my
35:53
fly
35:54
placement.
35:55
I
35:55
would
35:55
say
35:55
that
35:56
for
35:56
your
35:56
average
35:57
person,
35:57
somebody
35:57
who
35:58
hasn't
35:58
spent
35:58
a
35:59
lot
35:59
of
35:59
time
35:59
doing
35:59
it
36:00
or
36:00
doesn't
36:00
have
36:00
a
36:00
lot
36:00
of
36:01
experience
36:01
pulling
36:03
on
36:03
heavier
36:03
fish
36:04
with
36:04
a
36:04
fly
36:04
rod
36:05
and
36:05
lighter
36:06
tippet
36:06
to
36:07
probably
36:07
opt
36:08
for
36:08
a
36:08
seven
36:08
or
36:09
an
36:09
eight
36:09
weight
36:09
just
36:10
so
36:10
you
36:10
can
36:10
get
36:10
a
36:10
little
36:11
more
36:11
ability
36:12
out
36:12
of
36:12
the
36:12
rod
36:13
and
36:13
a
36:13
little
36:13
bit
36:13
more
36:13
lean
36:14
power
36:15
and
36:15
then
36:16
maybe
36:16
progress
36:16
down
36:17
to
36:17
a
36:17
lighter
36:17
rod.
36:19
But
36:19
yeah,
36:20
that's
36:20
kind
36:20
of
36:20
my
36:20
wheelhouse
36:21
for
36:21
that.
36:21
And
36:21
then
36:22
for
36:22
the
36:23
big
36:23
water
36:24
stuff,
36:24
when
36:24
we
36:24
do
36:24
the
36:24
flask
36:25
fishing,
36:25
that's
36:26
a
36:26
bare
36:26
minimum
36:26
night
36:27
weight.
36:27
Those
36:28
fish
36:28
tend
36:28
to
36:28
run
36:29
a
36:29
lot
36:29
larger
36:30
on
36:30
average
36:30
and
36:31
you
36:31
can
36:31
easily
36:31
run
36:32
into
36:32
fish
36:32
that
36:32
are
36:33
20
36:33
plus
36:34
pounds
36:34
on
36:34
the
36:34
flats,
36:35
you
36:35
know,
36:35
with
36:36
opportunities
36:36
and
36:37
shots
36:37
sometimes
36:37
that
36:38
fish
36:38
that
36:38
go
36:39
into
36:39
the
36:40
25,
36:40
30
36:41
pound
36:41
mark.
36:41
And
36:42
for
36:42
people
36:43
who
36:43
haven't
36:43
held
36:44
carp
36:44
or
36:44
held
36:45
many
36:45
carp,
36:46
a
36:46
lot
36:46
of
36:46
people
36:46
tend
36:47
to
36:47
over
36:47
exaggerate
36:48
carp
36:48
when
36:48
they
36:48
see
36:48
them
36:49
in
36:49
the
36:49
water
36:50
because
36:50
they
36:50
are
36:50
a
36:51
larger
36:51
species
36:51
of
36:52
fish.
36:52
But
36:52
a
36:53
20
36:53
pound
36:53
carp
36:54
is
36:54
an
36:54
absolute
36:55
animal
36:55
that's
36:56
a
36:56
very
36:57
large
36:57
fish
36:58
that
36:58
has
36:58
an
36:58
insane
36:59
amount
36:59
of
36:59
power
37:00
behind
37:00
it.
37:01
And
37:01
once
37:02
they
37:02
get
37:02
above
37:02
20
37:02
pounds,
37:03
they,
37:03
they'll
37:04
be
37:04
really
37:04
hard
37:04
to
37:05
handle
37:05
and
37:05
hold
37:05
on
37:06
a
37:06
light
37:06
rod.
37:06
So
37:07
we
37:07
use
37:07
eights
37:08
and
37:08
nines
37:08
when
37:08
we're
37:09
fishing
37:09
for
37:09
them
37:09
on
37:10
the
37:10
bigger
37:10
water.
37:10
You're
37:11
also
37:11
generally
37:12
doing
37:12
a
37:12
lot
37:12
more
37:13
longer
37:13
distance
37:14
casting.
37:15
So
37:15
you
37:15
know,
37:16
no
37:16
different
37:16
than
37:16
a
37:16
bonefish
37:17
or
37:17
a
37:17
permanent
37:18
flat
37:18
where
37:18
I,
37:19
I,
37:19
I
37:19
need
37:20
the
37:20
heavier
37:20
rod
37:21
as
37:21
much
37:21
to
37:21
deal
37:22
with
37:22
the
37:22
wind
37:22
and
37:22
the
37:22
ability
37:23
to
37:23
put
37:23
the
37:23
cast
37:23
where
37:24
it
37:24
needs
37:24
to
37:24
go,
37:24
as
37:25
I
37:25
do
37:25
for
37:25
the
37:25
fish,
37:27
but
37:27
floating
37:28
lines
37:28
for
37:28
that
37:28
as
37:28
well.
37:31
Generally
37:32
speaking
37:32
with
37:32
tapers
37:33
and
37:33
stuff
37:34
like
37:34
that,
37:34
I
37:34
like
37:35
kind
37:35
of
37:35
in
37:36
between
37:36
tapers,
37:37
so
37:37
not
37:37
quite
37:38
trout,
37:38
taper
37:39
lines,
37:40
something
37:41
with
37:41
a
37:41
little
37:41
bit
37:42
more
37:42
added
37:42
bump
37:43
in
37:43
the
37:43
front
37:43
of
37:43
the
37:43
line,
37:44
something
37:44
I
37:44
can
37:44
roll
37:45
cast
37:45
and
37:45
also
37:45
pick
37:46
up
37:46
and
37:46
throw
37:46
quickly.
37:47
But
37:48
I
37:48
don't
37:48
need
37:49
the
37:49
machine
37:50
gun
37:50
style.
37:51
Really
37:51
heavy,
37:52
fast
37:52
paced,
37:53
massive
37:54
weight
37:54
forward
37:54
lines
37:55
like
37:56
scientific
37:57
anglers,
37:57
bass
37:58
bug
37:58
or
37:59
airflow
37:59
power
38:00
tapers,
38:00
those
38:00
are
38:01
for
38:01
me
38:01
are
38:02
generally
38:02
reserved
38:03
more
38:03
for
38:03
my
38:03
bass
38:03
fishing.
38:04
When
38:04
I'm
38:04
fishing
38:04
larger
38:05
flies,
38:06
I
38:06
don't
38:06
need
38:06
to
38:06
be
38:07
as
38:07
delicate
38:07
with
38:07
my
38:08
presentation.
38:09
Carp
38:10
fly
38:10
fishing,
38:10
generally
38:11
speaking
38:11
you
38:11
have
38:12
to
38:12
be
38:12
a
38:12
little
38:12
less
38:13
invasive
38:13
with
38:14
how
38:14
you
38:14
put
38:14
the
38:14
fly
38:14
in
38:15
the
38:15
water
38:15
in
38:15
front
38:15
of
38:15
the
38:16
fish.
38:17
So
38:17
yeah,
38:17
something
38:17
on
38:18
the
38:18
neutral
38:18
end
38:18
of
38:18
things
38:19
kind
38:19
of
38:19
in
38:19
the
38:19
middle
38:20
that
38:20
has
38:20
power
38:21
but
38:21
still,
38:22
still
38:22
will
38:22
allow
38:22
the
38:23
angler
38:23
to
38:23
be
38:23
delicate.
38:24
So
38:24
I,
38:25
I,
38:25
my
38:25
go
38:25
to
38:26
line
38:26
most
38:26
of
38:26
the
38:26
time
38:27
for
38:27
those
38:27
fishes.
38:28
SAA
38:29
has
38:29
their
38:29
MPX
38:30
taper
38:31
or
38:31
their
38:32
infinity
38:32
taper
38:33
which
38:33
I
38:33
find
38:33
both
38:33
of
38:34
those
38:34
lines
38:34
work
38:34
really
38:35
well
38:35
for
38:35
that
38:36
leader
38:36
rigging
38:37
for
38:37
those
38:37
fish
38:37
I,
38:39
I
38:39
utilize
38:40
some
38:40
pre
38:40
made
38:41
stuff
38:41
often
38:41
when
38:42
I'm
38:42
just
38:42
kind
38:42
of
38:42
quickly
38:43
rigging
38:43
up
38:43
and
38:43
going
38:44
out
38:44
locally.
38:45
But
38:45
if
38:45
I'm
38:46
doing
38:46
it
38:46
right
38:46
and
38:46
properly
38:47
I,
38:47
I
38:48
will
38:48
build
38:48
leaders
38:50
generally
38:50
starting
38:50
with
38:50
some
38:51
monofilament
38:51
on
38:52
the
38:52
back
38:52
end
38:52
of
38:52
the
38:52
leader,
38:53
a
38:53
35
38:54
for
38:54
a
38:54
30
38:55
pound
38:55
butt
38:55
section
38:56
and
38:56
then
38:56
walking
38:56
my
38:57
way
38:57
down
38:58
keeping
38:58
the
38:59
leaders
38:59
pretty
39:00
much
39:00
in
39:00
that
39:01
nine
39:01
foot
39:02
range.
39:02
Sometimes
39:03
I'll
39:03
go
39:03
a
39:03
little
39:03
bit
39:04
longer
39:05
if
39:05
I
39:05
need
39:05
to
39:06
get
39:06
the
39:06
fly
39:06
to
39:06
drop
39:07
a
39:07
little
39:07
bit
39:07
quicker
39:08
or
39:08
I'm
39:08
dealing
39:08
with
39:08
cysts
39:09
that
39:09
are
39:10
really
39:10
spooky.
39:11
Sometimes
39:12
on
39:12
the
39:12
flats
39:12
you'll
39:13
extend
39:13
your
39:13
leader
39:13
a
39:14
little
39:14
bit.
39:14
But
39:14
yeah,
39:14
generally
39:15
in
39:15
that
39:15
9
39:15
to
39:15
10
39:16
foot
39:16
range
39:16
is
39:16
the
39:17
sweet
39:17
spot.
39:17
And
39:18
for
39:18
the
39:18
river
39:19
here
39:19
locally
39:19
I
39:20
often
39:20
am
39:21
fishing
39:21
either
39:21
8
39:22
or
39:22
10
39:22
pound
39:22
fluorocarbon
39:23
for
39:23
my
39:24
final
39:24
mark
39:24
on
39:24
the
39:25
leader.
39:25
On
39:26
the
39:26
flats
39:26
up
39:26
there
39:26
you
39:27
can
39:27
get
39:27
away
39:27
with
39:27
running
39:28
a
39:28
little
39:28
heavier
39:28
fishing
39:29
12,
39:29
sometimes
39:30
even
39:30
15
39:31
depending
39:31
on
39:31
the
39:31
day
39:32
and
39:32
time
39:32
and
39:33
place.
39:34
So
39:34
in
39:34
terms
39:34
of
39:35
on
39:35
the
39:35
leader
39:35
side,
39:36
just
39:36
to
39:36
kind
39:36
of
39:36
help
39:36
folks
39:37
out,
39:37
you
39:37
know,
39:37
I
39:37
would
39:38
imagine
39:38
your
39:38
butt's
39:38
probably
39:39
what,
39:39
four
39:39
or
39:39
five
39:39
feet?
39:41
Yeah,
39:42
yeah.
39:42
I
39:42
would
39:42
say
39:42
usually
39:43
starting
39:43
at
39:43
about
39:44
2
39:44
to
39:44
3ft
39:44
on
39:45
that
39:45
butt
39:45
end
39:46
and
39:46
then
39:46
utilizing
39:47
a
39:47
similar
39:47
kind
39:48
of
39:48
two
39:48
foot
39:48
ratio
39:49
as
39:49
I
39:49
walk
39:49
down
39:50
and
39:50
then
39:50
generally
39:50
going
39:51
a
39:51
little
39:51
bit
39:52
longer
39:52
on
39:52
my
39:52
tip
39:53
and
39:53
end.
39:53
Yeah,
39:54
like
39:54
3,
39:54
2,
39:54
2
39:54
and
39:55
then
39:55
tip
39:55
it.
39:55
Something
39:56
like
39:56
that.
39:57
Yeah,
39:57
yeah,
39:57
I
39:57
would
39:58
say
39:58
that's
39:58
right
39:58
around
39:58
the
39:58
sweet
39:59
spot.
39:59
I'm
39:59
always
40:00
changing
40:01
things
40:01
up
40:01
and
40:02
playing
40:02
with
40:02
different
40:02
configurations
40:03
to
40:03
see
40:04
what
40:04
I
40:04
like.
40:04
But
40:04
yeah,
40:05
that's,
40:05
that's
40:05
around
40:06
the,
40:06
the
40:06
wheelhouse
40:07
of
40:07
what
40:07
I
40:07
tend
40:07
to
40:07
play
40:07
with.
40:08
Got
40:08
it.
40:09
So
40:09
if
40:09
we
40:09
put
40:09
the
40:09
mulberry
40:10
hatch
40:10
to
40:10
the
40:11
side,
40:12
you
40:12
know,
40:12
let's
40:12
talk
40:13
about
40:13
bugs,
40:13
you
40:13
know,
40:14
what
40:14
do
40:14
you
40:14
like
40:14
to,
40:15
to
40:15
Fish.
40:17
That,
40:18
that's
40:18
gonna
40:18
vary,
40:19
you
40:19
know,
40:19
depending
40:19
on
40:20
where
40:20
you're
40:20
fishing
40:20
for
40:21
them.
40:21
The,
40:21
the
40:22
Great
40:22
Lakes
40:22
fish
40:22
tend
40:23
to
40:23
have
40:23
a
40:23
much
40:24
larger
40:25
dietary
40:26
base
40:26
than
40:26
the
40:26
fish
40:27
here
40:27
that
40:27
reside
40:28
locally
40:28
in
40:28
our
40:28
river
40:29
systems.
40:30
You
40:30
know,
40:31
those,
40:31
those
40:31
fish
40:32
on
40:32
the
40:32
big
40:32
water
40:32
will
40:34
gladly
40:34
and
40:34
willingly
40:35
pursue
40:36
3,
40:36
4,
40:37
sometimes
40:37
5
40:37
inch
40:38
plus
40:38
flies,
40:38
you
40:39
know,
40:39
if
40:39
you're
40:39
in
40:39
the
40:39
right
40:40
place
40:40
and
40:40
some
40:40
scenario.
40:41
A
40:41
lot
40:41
of
40:41
crazy
40:42
vulpin
40:43
goby
40:43
imitation
40:44
here
40:45
in
40:45
the
40:45
river
40:45
though.
40:46
I,
40:46
I
40:46
tend
40:46
to
40:46
downsize
40:47
quite
40:47
a
40:47
bit.
40:48
That's
40:49
not
40:49
to
40:49
say
40:49
that
40:49
I
40:49
don't
40:49
think
40:50
you
40:50
can
40:50
catch
40:50
them
40:50
on
40:50
bigger
40:51
flies.
40:51
I
40:51
just
40:52
based
40:52
on
40:52
how
40:52
the
40:53
fish
40:53
feed
40:53
and
40:53
generally
40:54
the
40:54
areas
40:55
that
40:55
they're
40:55
feeding
40:56
in
40:56
their,
40:57
their
40:57
forage
40:57
base.
40:58
From
40:58
what
40:58
I,
40:58
I
40:58
do,
40:59
I
40:59
try
40:59
to
40:59
send
41:00
a
41:00
lot.
41:00
I
41:00
spend
41:00
probably
41:01
more
41:01
time
41:01
these
41:01
days
41:02
observing
41:02
fish
41:03
than
41:03
I
41:03
do
41:03
casting
41:04
to
41:04
them,
41:04
just
41:04
watching
41:05
them
41:05
and,
41:05
and
41:06
kind
41:06
of,
41:06
you
41:06
know,
41:07
trying
41:07
to
41:07
figure
41:07
out
41:07
more
41:08
and
41:08
pick
41:09
the
41:09
equation
41:09
apart.
41:10
But
41:10
I,
41:11
I
41:11
often
41:11
will
41:12
fish,
41:12
you
41:12
know,
41:12
flies
41:13
as
41:13
small
41:13
as
41:14
down
41:14
to
41:14
a
41:15
8
41:15
or
41:15
even
41:15
a
41:16
10
41:16
sometimes,
41:17
depending
41:17
on
41:18
what
41:18
I'm
41:18
doing
41:18
or
41:19
what,
41:19
what
41:19
section
41:20
of
41:20
the
41:20
river
41:20
I'm
41:21
fishing.
41:21
Some
41:21
of
41:21
the
41:21
stretches
41:22
here
41:22
are
41:23
a
41:23
little
41:23
bit
41:23
heavier
41:24
traffic
41:24
these
41:25
days
41:26
with,
41:26
with
41:26
us
41:26
being
41:27
here
41:27
and
41:27
obviously
41:28
drawing
41:28
more
41:28
people
41:28
to
41:29
the
41:29
local
41:29
vicinity
41:30
there.
41:31
There's
41:31
been
41:32
more
41:32
people
41:33
pursuing
41:33
carp
41:33
every
41:34
year
41:34
as
41:34
years
41:34
of
41:35
one
41:35
on.
41:35
So
41:35
I
41:35
found
41:36
that
41:36
downsizing
41:37
tends
41:37
to
41:37
help
41:37
when,
41:38
when
41:38
you're
41:38
dealing
41:39
with
41:39
fish
41:39
that
41:39
are
41:39
a
41:40
little
41:40
bit
41:40
more
41:40
pressured.
41:41
I
41:41
have
41:42
a
41:42
pattern
41:42
that
41:42
I
41:43
pie
41:43
fish
41:44
a
41:44
lot
41:44
locally.
41:44
That's
41:45
a
41:46
variant
41:46
of
41:47
the
41:47
McLovin
41:48
fly.
41:48
That's
41:49
a
41:49
much
41:49
heavier
41:50
weighted
41:50
version
41:51
where
41:51
I
41:51
utilize
41:51
a
41:52
tungsten
41:52
bait
41:52
and
41:53
see
41:53
fairly
41:53
heavy
41:54
lead
41:54
eyes.
41:55
That
41:55
fly
41:56
is
41:56
designed
41:56
to
41:56
drop
41:57
really
41:57
quickly
41:58
and
41:58
kind
41:58
of
41:58
combat
41:59
the
41:59
current.
42:00
A
42:00
lot
42:00
of
42:00
the
42:00
fish
42:00
I'm
42:01
targeting
42:01
and
42:01
pursuing
42:02
in
42:02
the
42:02
river
42:02
are
42:02
feeding
42:03
and
42:04
often
42:05
fairly
42:05
quick
42:06
current
42:06
speed.
42:06
So
42:07
you
42:07
need
42:07
to
42:07
be
42:08
able
42:08
to
42:08
get
42:08
that
42:08
fly
42:08
to
42:09
drop
42:09
down
42:09
quickly
42:10
to
42:10
the
42:10
fish
42:10
and
42:11
almost
42:11
stand
42:11
still.
42:12
It's,
42:12
I
42:12
say
42:13
it's
42:13
almost
42:13
comparable
42:14
to
42:14
like
42:14
a
42:14
Euro
42:15
ninsing
42:15
style
42:16
of
42:16
approach
42:16
where
42:16
you're,
42:17
you're
42:17
not
42:17
casting
42:18
as
42:18
far
42:18
and
42:18
you're
42:19
kind
42:19
of
42:19
using
42:19
the
42:19
weight
42:20
of
42:20
the
42:20
fly
42:20
to
42:21
drop
42:21
it
42:21
down
42:21
in
42:21
front
42:22
of
42:22
the
42:22
fish
42:22
and
42:22
drag
42:23
it
42:23
into
42:23
their
42:23
vicinity.
42:25
And
42:25
you
42:25
know,
42:25
natural
42:26
colorways
42:26
tend
42:27
to
42:27
pay
42:27
bills
42:27
for
42:28
me.
42:28
Here
42:29
we
42:29
deal
42:29
with
42:29
a
42:29
lot
42:30
of
42:30
clearer
42:30
water
42:30
on
42:31
average.
42:31
So
42:32
for
42:32
those
42:33
guys
42:33
out
42:33
there,
42:34
guys
42:34
and
42:34
gals
42:35
that
42:35
may
42:35
be
42:35
pursuing
42:36
fish
42:36
in
42:36
dirtier
42:37
water,
42:37
you
42:37
can
42:37
get
42:38
away
42:38
with
42:38
some
42:38
louder,
42:39
brighter
42:39
colors.
42:39
But
42:40
here
42:40
locally,
42:41
I
42:41
tend
42:41
to
42:42
rely
42:42
a
42:42
Lot
42:42
on
42:43
that
42:43
natural
42:43
colorway.
42:44
The
42:45
olives,
42:45
the
42:46
tans,
42:46
the
42:46
browns,
42:48
sometimes
42:49
into
42:49
kind
42:49
of
42:49
like
42:49
that
42:50
crayfishy
42:50
orange.
42:51
But
42:51
I
42:51
tend
42:52
to
42:52
stay
42:52
on
42:52
the,
42:54
not
42:54
quite
42:54
always
42:54
mathing
42:55
the
42:55
bottom
42:55
type,
42:56
but
42:56
sticking
42:56
to
42:57
things
42:57
that
42:57
I
42:57
know
42:57
exist
42:58
in
42:58
nature
42:58
and
42:59
staying
42:59
away
42:59
from
43:00
the
43:00
bright
43:00
wild
43:00
stuff.
43:02
Yeah,
43:02
got
43:03
it.
43:03
And
43:03
so,
43:03
you
43:03
know,
43:03
I
43:03
guess
43:04
there
43:04
would
43:04
be,
43:04
I
43:04
guess
43:05
maybe
43:05
kind
43:05
of,
43:06
I
43:06
guess
43:07
generically,
43:07
kind
43:07
of
43:08
two,
43:08
two
43:08
approaches.
43:09
Right.
43:09
You've
43:09
either
43:09
got
43:10
them
43:10
kind
43:10
of
43:10
rooting
43:10
around.
43:11
Right.
43:11
Or
43:11
you
43:11
got
43:11
them
43:12
cruising.
43:13
So,
43:13
you
43:13
know,
43:14
you
43:14
kind
43:14
of
43:14
want
43:14
to
43:15
kind
43:15
of
43:15
pick
43:15
that
43:15
apart
43:15
for
43:16
folks.
43:17
Yeah.
43:17
So
43:17
the,
43:18
the
43:18
one
43:18
thing
43:19
I
43:19
used
43:19
for
43:19
that
43:20
and
43:20
recently
43:21
did
43:21
a
43:21
little
43:21
presentation
43:22
at
43:22
one
43:22
of
43:22
our,
43:23
one
43:23
of
43:23
the
43:23
expos
43:24
they
43:24
do
43:24
up
43:24
here
43:24
every
43:24
year
43:25
in
43:25
March,
43:25
the
43:25
Midwest
43:26
Fly
43:26
Fishing
43:26
show,
43:27
and
43:28
was
43:28
fortunate
43:29
enough
43:29
to
43:29
get
43:29
a
43:29
seat
43:30
to
43:30
do
43:30
a
43:30
presentation
43:31
at
43:31
that.
43:31
And
43:31
it
43:31
was
43:31
about
43:32
carp.
43:32
And
43:33
one
43:33
thing
43:33
that
43:34
I
43:34
noticed
43:34
captivated
43:35
everybody
43:35
who
43:35
was
43:36
in
43:36
my,
43:36
my
43:36
talk
43:37
was
43:37
I,
43:38
I,
43:38
I
43:38
give
43:39
people
43:39
a
43:39
dog
43:39
analogy
43:40
with
43:41
carp.
43:41
So
43:42
for
43:42
people
43:43
who
43:43
have
43:43
experience
43:44
around
43:44
dogs
43:45
and
43:45
have
43:45
spent
43:45
time
43:45
around
43:46
them,
43:46
it's
43:47
the
43:47
simple
43:48
logic
43:48
of
43:48
a
43:49
happy
43:49
dog
43:50
versus
43:50
an
43:50
unhappy
43:51
dog.
43:51
So
43:52
when
43:52
you
43:52
meet
43:52
a
43:52
dog
43:53
that's
43:53
unhappy
43:54
for
43:54
the
43:54
first
43:54
time,
43:55
that's
43:56
not
43:56
quite
43:57
into
43:57
you
43:57
or
43:57
into
43:58
your
43:58
presence,
43:59
that
43:59
dog
43:59
has
44:00
a
44:00
tendency
44:00
to
44:01
be
44:01
tight
44:01
and
44:02
rigid
44:02
in
44:02
its
44:03
body
44:03
language.
44:03
So
44:04
it
44:04
kind
44:04
of
44:04
stiffens
44:05
up
44:05
its
44:06
tails
44:06
generally
44:07
not
44:07
wagging,
44:08
its
44:09
head's
44:09
not
44:09
free
44:10
flowing
44:10
and
44:10
bopping
44:11
around.
44:11
It's
44:11
here,
44:11
they're
44:12
tight
44:12
and
44:12
drawn
44:13
back.
44:14
A
44:14
happy
44:15
dog
44:15
is
44:15
quite
44:16
the
44:16
opposite
44:16
of
44:16
that,
44:16
a
44:17
happy
44:17
dog,
44:17
the
44:17
tail
44:18
is
44:18
wagging.
44:19
In
44:19
the
44:20
carp
44:20
circumstance,
44:21
it
44:21
would
44:21
be
44:21
the
44:21
pectoral
44:22
fins
44:22
are
44:22
moving
44:23
clean
44:24
along
44:24
with
44:24
that
44:24
tail
44:25
and
44:25
helping
44:26
that
44:26
fish
44:26
move
44:26
and
44:27
adjust
44:27
itself
44:27
in
44:28
the
44:28
current.
44:29
And
44:29
that
44:30
fish's
44:30
face
44:31
is
44:31
moving
44:31
around
44:31
happy
44:32
like.
44:32
So
44:33
I,
44:33
I
44:33
tell
44:34
people
44:34
when
44:34
they're
44:34
looking
44:34
at
44:35
carp,
44:36
use
44:36
that
44:36
analogy
44:37
to
44:37
kind
44:37
of
44:37
identify
44:38
your
44:38
feeding
44:39
fish
44:39
as
44:39
opposed
44:40
to
44:40
your
44:40
negative
44:41
fish.
44:42
Your
44:42
negative
44:43
fish
44:43
are
44:43
those
44:43
unhappy
44:44
dogs,
44:44
the
44:45
ones
44:45
that
44:45
are
44:45
still
44:46
or
44:47
you
44:48
kind
44:48
of
44:48
have
44:48
that
44:48
negative
44:49
body
44:49
language
44:50
to
44:50
them
44:50
where
44:50
they're
44:50
not
44:52
looking
44:52
like
44:52
they're
44:53
very
44:53
interested
44:54
in
44:54
what's
44:54
going
44:54
around
44:55
them
44:55
and
44:55
they're,
44:56
they're
44:56
a
44:56
little
44:56
bit
44:57
more
44:57
sand
44:57
office
44:58
and
44:58
they're
44:58
kind
44:58
of
44:59
observing
44:59
and
44:59
sitting
45:00
still.
45:01
Those
45:01
fish
45:01
are
45:01
generally
45:02
for
45:02
me,
45:02
not
45:02
the
45:03
best
45:03
targets.
45:04
The
45:04
happy
45:05
ones,
45:05
on
45:05
the
45:05
other
45:05
hand,
45:06
are
45:06
the
45:06
better
45:07
targets.
45:07
Like
45:08
you
45:08
said,
45:08
those
45:08
are
45:08
the
45:08
fish
45:09
that
45:09
are
45:09
generally
45:10
rooting
45:10
around.
45:11
That
45:11
tail
45:12
is
45:12
wagging
45:13
freely.
45:14
Those
45:14
pec
45:14
fins
45:15
are
45:15
moving
45:15
along
45:15
with
45:16
the
45:16
fish,
45:16
helping
45:16
direct
45:17
and
45:17
guide
45:17
it.
45:18
Um,
45:18
and
45:18
Then
45:19
obviously
45:19
that
45:19
mouth
45:20
carp
45:20
are
45:20
built
45:21
to
45:21
be
45:21
that
45:22
more
45:22
of
45:22
a
45:22
downward
45:23
angle
45:23
feeder.
45:23
They
45:24
can,
45:24
they
45:24
can
45:24
easily
45:24
feed
45:25
upright
45:25
but
45:25
generally
45:26
seeking.
45:26
They,
45:27
they
45:27
do
45:27
a
45:27
lot
45:27
of
45:28
their,
45:28
their
45:28
feeding
45:29
on
45:29
the
45:29
down
45:29
end
45:29
of
45:30
things
45:30
where
45:30
they're
45:30
tilted
45:31
towards
45:31
the
45:31
bottom
45:32
and
45:32
their
45:32
mouth
45:33
is
45:33
just
45:33
consistently.
45:34
They're
45:34
filter
45:34
feeders
45:35
often
45:36
so
45:36
they're,
45:37
they're
45:37
sucking
45:37
up
45:38
and
45:38
taking
45:38
up
45:38
parts
45:39
of
45:39
the
45:39
bottom
45:39
and
45:39
the
45:40
sediment
45:40
and
45:40
the
45:40
grass
45:42
along
45:42
with
45:42
food
45:42
sources
45:43
and
45:43
they're
45:43
rejecting
45:44
what
45:44
they
45:44
don't
45:44
want
45:44
to
45:44
keep
45:45
in
45:45
their
45:45
mouth.
45:45
They
45:45
have,
45:47
I
45:48
don't
45:48
know
45:48
the
45:48
exact
45:48
number,
45:49
but
45:49
quite
45:49
a
45:50
few
45:51
sensory
45:51
membranes.
45:52
I
45:52
don't
45:53
know
45:53
what
45:53
the
45:53
technical
45:53
term
45:54
would
45:54
be
45:54
for
45:54
those,
45:54
but
45:55
inside
45:55
of
45:55
their
45:55
mouth
45:56
that
45:56
kind
45:56
of
45:56
tell
45:56
them
45:57
what's
45:57
food
45:57
and
45:58
what's
45:58
not.
45:59
So
45:59
it's,
45:59
it's
46:00
cool
46:00
to
46:00
watch
46:00
them
46:00
feed
46:01
because
46:01
they,
46:01
it's,
46:02
it's
46:02
interesting
46:03
too
46:03
when
46:03
you're
46:03
feeding
46:04
them
46:04
flies
46:04
because
46:05
you
46:05
have
46:05
to
46:05
kind
46:06
of
46:07
make
46:08
a
46:08
good
46:08
decision
46:08
on
46:08
when
46:09
to
46:09
set
46:09
the
46:09
hook.
46:10
Carp
46:10
can
46:10
be
46:10
pretty
46:11
quick
46:11
to
46:11
reject
46:12
flies
46:12
once
46:12
they,
46:12
even
46:13
if
46:13
they
46:13
do
46:13
eat
46:13
the
46:14
fly
46:14
often.
46:14
There's
46:15
many
46:15
times
46:15
when,
46:15
when
46:15
I'll
46:16
watch
46:16
a
46:16
fish
46:16
eat
46:17
my
46:17
fly
46:17
and
46:17
I'll,
46:17
I'll,
46:18
I
46:18
still
46:19
have
46:19
that
46:19
little
46:19
kid
46:19
in
46:20
me
46:20
and
46:20
I'll
46:20
be
46:20
excited
46:21
and
46:21
I'll,
46:21
I'll
46:22
pull
46:22
up
46:22
a
46:22
little
46:22
bit
46:22
too
46:23
quickly
46:23
and
46:24
nine
46:24
out
46:24
of
46:24
10
46:24
times
46:25
I'm
46:25
always
46:25
trout
46:26
setting
46:26
on
46:26
carp.
46:26
I'm
46:27
lifting
46:27
the
46:27
rod
46:27
sharply
46:28
and
46:28
setting
46:28
the
46:29
hook
46:29
as
46:29
opposed
46:30
to
46:30
a
46:30
strip
46:30
set.
46:31
Strip
46:32
set.
46:32
I
46:32
find
46:32
you'll
46:33
definitely
46:33
pull
46:33
a
46:33
lot
46:34
more
46:34
flies
46:34
out
46:34
of
46:34
the
46:35
fish's
46:35
mouth
46:35
doing
46:36
it
46:36
that
46:36
way.
46:37
But
46:37
if
46:37
you
46:38
wait
46:38
too
46:38
long,
46:39
you
46:39
often
46:39
can.
46:40
That
46:40
fish
46:40
will
46:41
stick
46:41
that
46:41
fly
46:42
out
46:42
as
46:42
fast
46:42
as
46:42
it
46:42
takes
46:43
it
46:43
in.
46:43
So
46:43
it's
46:44
a,
46:44
it's
46:44
a
46:44
very
46:45
visual
46:45
game
46:45
most
46:46
of
46:46
the
46:46
time.
46:46
I
46:46
think
46:46
that's
46:47
something
46:47
that's
46:47
always
46:47
kind
46:48
of
46:48
captivated
46:48
me.
46:49
I
46:49
really
46:49
enjoy
46:49
that
46:50
visual
46:51
element
46:51
of,
46:51
of
46:52
stalking
46:52
the
46:53
fish
46:53
and
46:53
finding
46:54
those
46:54
happy
46:55
fish
46:55
and
46:56
sometimes
46:56
being
46:57
fortunate
46:57
enough
46:57
to
46:57
feed
46:58
them.
46:58
Even
46:59
the
46:59
happy
46:59
fish
47:00
often
47:00
will
47:00
not
47:00
eat
47:01
your
47:01
fly.
47:02
Carp
47:02
are
47:02
a
47:02
very
47:03
sensory
47:03
based
47:03
fish.
47:04
They
47:04
rely
47:05
very
47:05
heavily
47:06
on
47:06
scent
47:06
when
47:06
they're
47:06
feeding.
47:08
So
47:08
they,
47:08
they're
47:09
able
47:09
to
47:09
track
47:09
and
47:09
taste
47:10
those
47:10
little
47:10
barbells
47:11
that
47:11
you
47:11
see
47:11
coming
47:12
out
47:12
of
47:12
the
47:12
front
47:12
end
47:13
on
47:13
top
47:13
of
47:13
their
47:13
mouth.
47:14
They're
47:14
actually
47:14
tasting
47:15
through
47:15
those
47:16
so
47:16
they
47:16
can,
47:17
they
47:17
can
47:17
kind
47:17
of
47:17
pick
47:17
up
47:18
their
47:18
food
47:18
source
47:18
before
47:19
it's
47:19
even
47:19
in
47:19
their
47:19
mouth
47:20
or
47:20
near
47:20
it.
47:21
So
47:21
when
47:21
you
47:21
take
47:22
that
47:22
out
47:22
of
47:22
the
47:22
equation
47:23
and
47:23
you
47:23
put
47:23
a
47:23
fly
47:24
in
47:24
there
47:24
that
47:25
doesn't
47:25
have
47:25
any
47:25
scent,
47:26
you
47:27
Gotta
47:27
be
47:28
pretty
47:28
convincing
47:29
with
47:29
how
47:29
you
47:29
choose
47:30
to
47:30
feed
47:30
the
47:30
fish
47:31
and
47:31
fly
47:31
placement
47:32
and
47:32
all
47:32
those
47:32
different
47:33
things.
47:33
So
47:34
it's
47:34
a
47:34
cool
47:35
system
47:35
and
47:35
it
47:36
definitely.
47:36
I
47:36
tell
47:37
a
47:37
lot
47:38
of
47:38
people
47:38
I
47:38
talk
47:38
to
47:39
in
47:39
the
47:39
shop
47:39
and
47:39
in
47:40
my
47:40
travels
47:40
that
47:41
they
47:41
are
47:41
a
47:41
fish
47:42
that
47:42
will
47:43
100%,
47:43
without
47:44
a
47:44
doubt
47:44
make
47:44
you
47:45
a
47:45
better
47:45
angler
47:45
all
47:45
around.
47:46
I
47:46
don't
47:47
really
47:47
care
47:47
what
47:48
you
47:48
fish
47:48
for
47:48
in
47:49
your
47:49
free
47:49
time.
47:49
If
47:49
you
47:50
want
47:50
to
47:50
improve
47:51
your
47:51
angling
47:52
game
47:52
with
47:52
a
47:52
fly
47:52
rod,
47:53
a
47:53
carp
47:53
is
47:53
a
47:54
common
47:54
carp
47:54
is.
47:54
Is
47:55
a
47:55
definitely
47:56
high
47:56
on
47:56
my
47:56
list
47:57
of
47:57
a
47:57
species
47:57
that
47:58
will
47:58
make
47:58
you
47:58
a
47:58
better
47:58
fisherman
47:59
and
47:59
for
48:00
those
48:00
exact
48:00
reasons.
48:01
Yeah.
48:02
So
48:02
it
48:02
almost
48:02
sounds
48:02
like
48:03
it's
48:03
almost
48:03
like
48:03
bone
48:03
fishing.
48:04
Right?
48:04
So
48:04
you're
48:04
kind
48:05
of
48:05
reading.
48:05
Very
48:05
much
48:05
so.
48:06
Yeah.
48:06
So
48:06
I,
48:07
I
48:07
would
48:07
guess
48:07
kind
48:07
of
48:08
generally
48:08
the
48:08
game
48:08
is
48:09
you're
48:09
kind
48:10
of
48:10
watching
48:10
the
48:10
fish
48:10
move
48:11
and
48:11
eat
48:11
and
48:12
kind
48:12
of
48:12
like
48:12
bone
48:12
fishing,
48:13
you
48:13
want
48:13
to
48:13
drop
48:13
the
48:14
fly
48:14
far
48:14
enough
48:14
ahead
48:15
of
48:15
the.
48:15
The
48:15
fish
48:16
on
48:16
the
48:17
outside
48:17
side
48:18
so
48:18
that
48:18
you
48:18
don't
48:18
spook
48:18
it
48:19
and
48:19
then
48:19
you
48:19
basically
48:19
want
48:19
to
48:19
bring
48:19
the
48:20
food
48:20
kind
48:20
of
48:20
into
48:20
the
48:21
path
48:21
at
48:21
the
48:21
right
48:21
time.
48:21
Is
48:22
that
48:22
my
48:22
oversimplifying
48:23
that
48:23
or
48:24
is
48:24
that
48:24
kind
48:24
of
48:24
how
48:24
the
48:24
game.
48:24
No,
48:25
no,
48:25
that's.
48:25
That's
48:26
pretty
48:26
accurate.
48:26
I
48:27
would
48:27
say
48:27
it's
48:27
again,
48:28
it's
48:28
situational
48:29
dependent
48:29
with
48:30
that.
48:30
I,
48:30
there's,
48:30
there's
48:31
a
48:31
lot
48:31
of
48:31
things
48:32
that
48:32
I,
48:32
I
48:32
feel
48:33
that
48:35
I
48:35
have
48:35
been
48:36
rigid
48:36
and
48:36
implementing
48:37
into
48:37
my
48:37
own
48:38
game
48:38
that
48:38
have
48:38
helped
48:39
me
48:39
be
48:39
a
48:40
little
48:40
more
48:40
consistent
48:41
fish.
48:41
And
48:42
like
48:42
you
48:42
had
48:42
mentioned
48:42
briefly
48:43
there,
48:43
the
48:44
how
48:44
you
48:44
choose
48:44
to
48:45
bring
48:45
the
48:45
fly
48:45
to
48:45
the
48:46
fish
48:46
is
48:46
an
48:47
important
48:47
one.
48:48
I've
48:48
noted
48:48
with
48:49
our
48:49
clearwater
48:49
fish
48:50
here
48:50
that
48:51
those
48:51
fish
48:52
tend
48:53
to
48:53
not
48:53
like
48:53
it
48:53
when
48:53
you
48:54
bring
48:54
the
48:54
fly
48:54
to
48:55
them.
48:56
And
48:56
the
48:56
simple
48:57
analogy
48:57
there
48:58
and
48:58
thought
48:58
process
48:58
is
48:59
really
48:59
think
48:59
in
49:00
nature,
49:00
how
49:00
often
49:00
does
49:01
the
49:01
prey
49:01
go
49:02
towards
49:02
the
49:02
predator?
49:03
Doesn't
49:04
happen
49:04
very
49:04
often.
49:05
You,
49:06
you
49:06
generally
49:06
the
49:07
prey
49:07
is
49:07
going
49:07
to
49:07
try
49:08
to
49:08
make
49:08
a
49:08
move
49:08
away
49:09
from
49:09
the
49:09
predator
49:10
in
49:10
any
49:10
circumstances.
49:11
Carpet.
49:12
I
49:12
don't
49:12
have
49:14
super
49:14
elaborate
49:15
PhD
49:16
knowledge
49:16
on.
49:17
On
49:17
how
49:17
the
49:18
fish's
49:18
eyesight
49:19
is,
49:19
but
49:19
based
49:20
on
49:20
my
49:20
experience,
49:21
I,
49:22
I
49:22
do
49:22
believe
49:22
carp
49:23
have
49:23
pretty
49:23
good
49:23
eyesight
49:24
in
49:24
clear
49:24
water,
49:25
in
49:26
good
49:26
sun
49:26
conditions,
49:27
clear
49:28
water.
49:28
I
49:28
think
49:28
carp
49:29
can
49:29
see
49:29
a
49:30
lot
49:30
better
49:30
than
49:30
most
49:31
people
49:31
would
49:31
give
49:31
them
49:31
credit
49:32
for.
49:33
So
49:33
that
49:33
angle
49:34
of
49:34
approach
49:34
with
49:35
the
49:35
fly
49:35
made
49:35
many
49:36
years
49:36
of
49:36
mistakes
49:37
where
49:37
in
49:38
excitement
49:39
and
49:39
that
49:40
that
49:40
youthful
49:41
play
49:41
to
49:41
go
49:42
to
49:42
fishing,
49:42
drop
49:43
the
49:43
fly
49:43
and
49:44
kind
49:44
of
49:44
get
49:45
dropped
49:45
the
49:46
angle
49:46
of
49:46
the
49:46
fly
49:46
to
49:46
where
49:47
it's
49:47
approaching
49:47
their
49:48
head
49:48
when
49:48
it's
49:48
coming
49:49
down
49:49
and
49:50
I.
49:50
You
49:50
turn
49:50
a
49:51
lot
49:51
of
49:51
fish
49:51
off
49:51
doing
49:52
that.
49:52
So,
49:53
yeah,
49:53
like
49:53
you
49:53
had
49:54
mentioned
49:54
kind
49:54
of
49:54
that
49:55
what's
49:55
referred
49:55
to
49:56
in
49:56
the
49:56
carp
49:56
community,
49:56
I
49:57
hear
49:57
out
49:57
and
49:57
about
49:58
is
49:58
the
49:58
drag
49:58
and
49:58
drop
49:59
where
50:00
it's,
50:00
it's,
50:00
it's
50:01
kind
50:01
of
50:01
putting
50:01
the
50:01
fly
50:02
somewhere
50:03
on
50:03
the
50:03
outskirts
50:04
of
50:04
the
50:04
fish
50:04
and
50:04
then
50:05
dropping
50:05
it
50:05
down
50:06
to
50:06
where
50:06
it
50:06
almost
50:07
meets
50:07
them
50:07
on
50:08
an
50:08
opposing
50:08
angle,
50:09
Enters
50:09
their
50:10
line
50:10
of
50:10
vision
50:11
and
50:11
then
50:11
settles.
50:12
You
50:13
know,
50:13
some
50:14
fish,
50:14
it
50:14
can
50:14
be
50:14
as,
50:15
as
50:15
close
50:15
as
50:15
a
50:15
dinner
50:16
plate
50:16
to
50:16
their
50:16
face.
50:17
Other
50:17
fish,
50:17
you
50:17
know,
50:18
you
50:18
want
50:18
to
50:18
give
50:18
them
50:18
a.
50:19
A
50:19
foot
50:19
to
50:20
two
50:20
feet
50:21
and
50:21
then
50:21
it's
50:22
contrasting.
50:22
Like
50:23
when
50:23
you
50:23
talk
50:23
about
50:24
big
50:24
lake
50:25
fish,
50:25
you
50:25
know,
50:25
great
50:25
lakes
50:26
fish,
50:26
when
50:26
you're,
50:27
when
50:27
you're
50:27
casting
50:27
to
50:28
them,
50:28
it's
50:29
much
50:29
more
50:29
similar
50:30
to
50:31
that
50:33
bonefish.
50:34
Even
50:34
the
50:34
tarpon
50:35
presentation
50:35
where
50:35
you're,
50:36
you're
50:36
actually
50:37
leading
50:37
the
50:37
fish
50:38
quite
50:38
a
50:38
bit
50:38
and
50:38
then
50:39
letting
50:39
the
50:39
fly
50:39
come
50:40
down
50:40
to
50:40
its
50:40
point
50:40
of
50:41
contact
50:41
and
50:41
then
50:41
bringing
50:42
it
50:42
into
50:42
their
50:43
wheelhouse
50:44
and
50:44
sometimes
50:45
there.
50:45
Those
50:46
fish
50:46
always
50:46
tend
50:47
to
50:47
amaze
50:47
me
50:47
because
50:47
you
50:48
can
50:48
have
50:48
fish
50:48
that
50:48
will
50:49
pursue
50:49
and
50:49
frack
50:49
flies
50:50
5,
50:51
10,
50:52
15ft
50:54
where
50:54
they
50:54
don't
50:54
even
50:55
hesitate
50:55
and
50:55
they'll
50:56
track
50:56
that
50:56
fly
50:56
for
50:57
a
50:57
ways
50:57
and
50:57
eat
50:57
it.
50:58
But
50:58
that's
50:59
obviously
50:59
more
50:59
specific
51:00
to
51:00
those,
51:01
those
51:01
bigger
51:01
water,
51:02
more
51:02
carnivore
51:03
base
51:04
carp
51:04
that
51:04
I
51:04
think
51:05
are
51:05
just
51:05
their
51:05
lifestyle
51:06
and
51:06
the
51:06
way
51:06
they
51:06
live
51:07
and
51:07
grow
51:07
up,
51:07
they're
51:08
a
51:08
little
51:08
bit
51:08
more
51:08
opportunistic
51:09
and
51:09
predatorial
51:10
and
51:10
how
51:11
they
51:11
seed.
51:11
But
51:12
with
51:12
that
51:12
being
51:13
said,
51:14
I
51:14
have
51:16
found
51:16
a
51:16
little
51:17
love
51:17
with
51:17
trying
51:18
to
51:18
seed
51:18
those
51:18
50
51:19
minnow
51:19
patterns
51:20
over
51:20
the
51:20
years.
51:20
And
51:21
I've,
51:21
I've,
51:22
I
51:22
won't
51:22
quite
51:23
say
51:23
that
51:23
I've
51:23
got
51:23
it
51:24
dialed
51:24
down
51:24
to
51:24
an
51:25
exact
51:25
science,
51:25
but
51:26
right
51:27
times
51:27
of
51:27
year
51:28
here
51:29
in
51:29
the
51:29
river
51:29
systems,
51:30
I
51:30
have
51:31
figured
51:31
out
51:32
fairly
51:32
consistent
51:33
ways
51:33
of
51:33
convincing
51:34
those
51:34
fish
51:34
to
51:35
eat
51:35
minnows.
51:36
And
51:36
that
51:36
is
51:37
often
51:37
you're
51:38
giving
51:38
them
51:38
a
51:38
little
51:38
bit
51:39
more
51:39
lead
51:39
space
51:39
on
51:40
the
51:40
fly
51:40
where
51:40
it's
51:40
kind
51:40
of
51:41
backing
51:41
down
51:41
to
51:42
them,
51:42
but
51:42
you're
51:43
still
51:43
leaving
51:43
several
51:44
feet
51:44
in
51:44
between
51:44
the
51:45
fly
51:45
and
51:45
the
51:45
fish.
51:46
And
51:46
then
51:46
they're
51:46
making
51:47
a
51:47
visual
51:47
commitment
51:48
on
51:48
if
51:48
they
51:48
want
51:48
to
51:48
eat
51:49
it
51:49
or
51:49
not,
51:49
which
51:49
is
51:49
pretty
51:50
cool.
51:50
Yeah,
51:51
absolutely.
51:51
You
51:51
know,
51:52
I
51:52
know
51:52
we
51:52
mentioned
51:53
a
51:53
few
51:53
presentation
51:54
mistakes
51:54
not
51:54
to
51:54
make,
51:55
but,
51:55
you
51:55
know,
51:56
a
51:56
couple
51:56
other
51:56
things
51:57
kind
51:57
of
51:57
jump
51:57
out
51:57
at
51:57
you
51:58
that
51:58
kind
51:58
of
51:58
new
51:58
carp
51:59
anglers
51:59
do
52:00
that,
52:00
you
52:00
know,
52:01
doesn't
52:01
tilt
52:01
the
52:01
odds
52:02
in
52:02
their
52:02
favor.
52:03
I
52:04
think
52:04
this
52:04
is
52:04
the,
52:05
the,
52:05
one
52:05
of
52:05
the
52:05
main
52:06
key
52:06
points
52:06
on
52:07
that
52:07
for
52:07
me
52:07
and
52:08
one
52:08
that
52:08
I
52:08
think
52:08
will
52:09
track
52:09
any
52:10
form
52:10
of
52:10
angling
52:11
anywhere
52:11
in
52:12
the
52:12
world
52:13
for
52:13
any
52:13
species
52:14
of
52:14
fish
52:14
is
52:15
learning
52:15
to
52:15
fish
52:15
with
52:16
your
52:16
eyes
52:16
before
52:17
actually
52:17
casting.
52:19
It's.
52:19
Carp
52:20
is
52:20
a
52:20
very
52:20
visual
52:21
game.
52:21
It's
52:22
very,
52:23
you
52:23
have
52:24
to
52:24
be
52:24
stealthy.
52:25
Carp
52:25
are
52:26
essentially
52:26
like
52:27
one
52:28
giant
52:28
eardrum.
52:29
So
52:30
they're
52:30
sensory
52:30
and
52:31
that
52:31
lateral
52:32
line
52:32
and
52:32
that
52:32
ability
52:33
to
52:33
feel
52:33
movement
52:34
around
52:34
them
52:34
is
52:35
very
52:35
strong.
52:36
With
52:36
carp,
52:36
they're
52:37
a
52:37
full
52:37
360
52:38
feeler.
52:39
So
52:40
as
52:40
opposed
52:40
to
52:40
a
52:40
bass,
52:41
for
52:41
example,
52:41
that
52:42
has
52:42
their
52:42
lateral
52:42
lines
52:43
on
52:43
the
52:43
side
52:43
of
52:44
the
52:44
fish
52:44
where
52:44
they're
52:45
feeling
52:45
from
52:45
left
52:46
or
52:46
right
52:46
flank.
52:46
Typically
52:47
carp
52:48
are
52:48
three
52:48
60s,
52:49
so
52:49
they,
52:49
they
52:50
can
52:50
feel
52:50
off
52:50
the
52:51
pop,
52:51
they
52:51
can
52:51
feel
52:52
off
52:52
the
52:52
bottom,
52:53
they
52:53
can
52:53
feel
52:53
from
52:53
head
52:54
on,
52:54
they
52:54
can
52:55
feel
52:55
from
52:55
tail
52:55
on
52:56
and
52:56
obviously
52:57
feel
52:57
on
52:57
their
52:57
sides.
52:58
So
52:59
I,
53:00
I
53:00
tell
53:00
people
53:01
it's
53:01
very
53:01
critical
53:02
to
53:02
just
53:03
learn
53:03
to
53:03
slow
53:04
down
53:04
and
53:04
observe.
53:05
I
53:06
cannot
53:06
tell
53:06
you
53:07
how
53:07
many
53:07
times
53:08
I
53:08
have
53:09
been
53:09
carp
53:09
fishing
53:10
either
53:11
by
53:11
myself
53:11
or
53:12
with
53:12
other
53:12
people
53:12
where
53:14
you
53:14
tend
53:14
to.
53:14
You
53:15
see
53:15
a
53:15
fish
53:15
and
53:16
you
53:16
almost
53:16
get,
53:18
what's
53:18
the
53:18
term
53:18
I'm
53:18
looking
53:19
for
53:19
here?
53:19
Where
53:20
you're
53:20
kind
53:20
of,
53:20
you
53:21
get
53:21
so
53:21
locked
53:22
in
53:22
and
53:22
fixated
53:22
on
53:23
one
53:23
fish
53:23
that
53:23
you
53:24
forget
53:24
to
53:24
observe
53:25
your
53:25
surroundings.
53:27
And
53:27
you
53:27
go
53:27
to
53:28
make
53:28
a
53:28
motion
53:28
and
53:28
a
53:29
movement
53:29
and
53:29
try
53:29
to
53:29
get
53:30
closer
53:30
to
53:30
that
53:31
fish
53:31
that
53:31
you,
53:31
you're
53:32
locked
53:32
in
53:32
on
53:33
and
53:33
you
53:34
don't
53:34
even
53:34
notice
53:35
a
53:35
fish
53:35
that's
53:36
closer
53:36
than
53:36
that
53:37
other
53:37
fish
53:37
that
53:38
you
53:38
end
53:38
up
53:38
spooking.
53:40
And
53:40
that
53:40
fish
53:40
will
53:41
end
53:41
up
53:41
throwing
53:41
off
53:42
the
53:42
rhythm
53:42
of
53:42
any
53:42
other
53:43
fish
53:43
that's
53:43
in
53:43
the
53:43
vicinity.
53:44
So
53:44
I,
53:44
I
53:45
tell
53:45
people
53:45
often
53:46
that
53:46
was
53:46
carp.
53:46
It's,
53:47
it's
53:47
a,
53:48
it's
53:48
a.
53:48
I
53:49
prefer
53:49
one
53:50
fish
53:50
games
53:51
where
53:51
if
53:51
I'm
53:51
going
53:51
out
53:52
and
53:52
I'm
53:52
looking
53:52
for
53:53
targets,
53:53
I
53:53
always
53:54
love
53:54
and
53:55
always
53:56
pick
53:56
the
53:56
fish
53:57
that's
53:57
solo
53:58
as
53:58
opposed
53:58
to
53:59
the
53:59
fish
53:59
that's
53:59
in
53:59
a
54:00
group.
54:01
And
54:01
by
54:01
no
54:01
means
54:02
will
54:02
I
54:02
say
54:02
that
54:02
you
54:03
can't
54:03
catch
54:03
carp
54:04
that
54:04
are
54:04
in
54:04
groups.
54:04
You
54:05
definitely
54:05
can
54:05
do
54:05
that.
54:07
The
54:07
margin
54:07
of
54:07
error
54:08
is
54:08
much,
54:08
much
54:09
smaller
54:09
there
54:09
though.
54:10
You
54:10
don't
54:10
have
54:10
the
54:11
ability
54:11
to.
54:12
When
54:12
you
54:12
have
54:12
a
54:12
group
54:12
of,
54:13
you
54:14
know,
54:14
6,
54:14
7,
54:15
8,
54:15
9,
54:15
10,
54:16
15,
54:16
20
54:16
carp
54:17
that
54:17
are
54:17
in
54:17
a
54:17
vicinity
54:18
feeding
54:19
or
54:19
say
54:19
some
54:20
of
54:20
the
54:20
fish
54:20
are
54:20
feeding
54:21
and
54:21
some
54:21
aren't,
54:22
it's
54:22
very
54:23
easy
54:23
to
54:23
upset
54:24
one
54:24
of
54:24
those
54:24
fish.
54:25
And
54:25
carp
54:25
or
54:25
from
54:26
what
54:26
I've,
54:26
I've
54:26
visually
54:27
seen
54:27
and
54:28
kind
54:28
of
54:28
keynoted
54:29
over
54:29
the
54:29
years
54:29
of
54:30
pursuing
54:30
them,
54:31
they're,
54:31
they're
54:32
very
54:32
community
54:32
oriented
54:33
fish.
54:33
They
54:34
work
54:34
well
54:34
within
54:34
their
54:35
ecosystems.
54:35
You
54:36
know,
54:36
the
54:36
common
54:36
carp
54:36
is
54:37
a.
54:37
Typically
54:37
referred
54:38
to
54:38
as
54:38
an
54:38
entire
54:38
basic
54:39
species.
54:39
But
54:40
in
54:40
most
54:41
of
54:41
their
54:41
environments
54:42
here
54:42
in
54:42
the
54:42
Great
54:43
Lakes,
54:43
they're
54:43
completely
54:44
Naturalized,
54:45
they,
54:45
they
54:46
work
54:46
with
54:47
the
54:47
local,
54:48
local
54:49
native
54:49
base
54:50
of
54:50
fish.
54:50
You
54:50
know,
54:51
smallmouth
54:51
and
54:51
carp
54:52
will
54:52
work
54:52
together
54:52
frequently
54:54
using
54:54
each
54:54
other.
54:55
The
54:55
smallmouths
54:56
will
54:56
use
54:56
the
54:56
carp
54:56
and
54:57
feed
54:57
off
54:57
of
54:57
their
54:57
backs
54:58
as
54:58
they're
54:59
kicking
54:59
up
54:59
food
55:00
and
55:00
spooking
55:00
things
55:01
out
55:01
of
55:01
rocks
55:01
when
55:01
they're
55:02
rooting
55:02
around.
55:03
And
55:03
they,
55:03
they
55:04
work
55:04
off
55:04
one
55:04
another
55:05
in
55:05
groups
55:05
of
55:05
carp
55:06
do
55:06
the
55:06
same
55:06
thing.
55:07
They.
55:07
If
55:07
you
55:08
spook
55:08
one
55:08
of
55:08
them,
55:08
it's
55:09
very
55:09
probable
55:10
that
55:10
you're
55:11
going
55:11
to
55:11
spook
55:11
the
55:11
majority
55:12
of
55:12
them.
55:13
So
55:14
that's,
55:14
that's
55:15
something
55:15
that
55:15
I
55:15
think
55:15
is
55:16
critical
55:16
for
55:16
people
55:16
that
55:17
are
55:17
going
55:17
out
55:17
and
55:17
learning
55:18
how
55:18
to
55:18
target
55:18
them.
55:18
Learn
55:19
to
55:19
find
55:20
individual
55:20
fish.
55:21
If
55:21
you
55:21
have
55:21
the
55:21
luxury
55:21
of
55:22
doing
55:22
that,
55:22
don't
55:23
be
55:23
afraid
55:23
of
55:23
the
55:23
groups.
55:24
But
55:24
definitely
55:24
you
55:25
have
55:25
to
55:25
tread
55:25
a
55:25
lot
55:25
more
55:26
lightly
55:26
when
55:26
you're
55:26
targeting
55:27
fish
55:27
that
55:27
are
55:27
in
55:28
groups,
55:28
because
55:29
one
55:29
bad
55:30
move
55:30
in
55:30
that
55:30
group
55:30
of
55:31
fish
55:31
and
55:31
you
55:31
likely
55:31
will
55:32
blow
55:32
that
55:32
group
55:32
of
55:32
fish
55:33
for
55:33
some
55:33
time
55:33
to
55:33
come.
55:34
Depending
55:35
on
55:35
the
55:35
watershed
55:35
you're
55:36
fishing,
55:36
they
55:36
can
55:37
sometimes
55:37
reset
55:38
quickly.
55:38
But
55:39
generally
55:39
seeing
55:39
it
55:40
takes
55:40
them
55:40
a
55:40
while
55:40
to
55:40
get
55:41
back
55:41
to
55:41
their
55:41
comfort
55:42
face.
55:43
And
55:43
until
55:43
they
55:43
get
55:43
back
55:44
into
55:44
that
55:44
comfort
55:44
space,
55:45
it
55:45
can
55:45
be
55:45
pretty
55:45
difficult
55:46
to
55:46
feed
55:46
them
55:46
flies.
55:47
But
55:47
definitely
55:48
learn
55:48
to
55:49
approach
55:49
the
55:50
water
55:50
with
55:50
your
55:50
eyes
55:51
before
55:51
your
55:51
rod.
55:52
I
55:52
often
55:52
give
55:53
people
55:53
the
55:53
keynote.
55:54
If
55:54
you're
55:54
really
55:54
serious
55:55
about
55:55
trying
55:55
to
55:56
learn
55:56
how
55:56
to
55:56
target
55:57
and
55:57
catch
55:58
carp
55:58
with
55:58
a
55:58
fly,
56:00
start
56:00
by
56:00
going
56:00
out
56:00
without
56:01
a
56:01
rod.
56:02
Grab
56:03
your
56:03
wading
56:03
gear
56:03
or
56:04
whatever
56:04
you
56:04
want
56:04
to
56:04
have
56:05
with
56:05
you
56:05
and
56:06
go
56:06
out
56:06
to
56:06
your.
56:07
Whatever
56:07
local
56:07
watershed
56:08
you
56:08
have
56:08
and
56:09
take
56:09
walks
56:10
and
56:10
find
56:10
fish
56:11
and
56:11
observe
56:12
them
56:12
and
56:12
learn
56:13
where
56:13
they're
56:13
spending
56:14
time
56:14
and
56:14
watch
56:14
when
56:15
they're
56:15
feeding
56:15
and
56:16
when
56:16
they're
56:16
not.
56:17
Learn
56:17
the
56:17
areas
56:18
where
56:18
the
56:18
fish
56:18
are
56:18
spending
56:19
time
56:19
feeding
56:20
as
56:20
opposed
56:21
to
56:21
just
56:21
finding
56:22
fish
56:23
and
56:24
do
56:24
that
56:24
without
56:24
a
56:24
rod
56:25
because
56:25
most
56:25
people
56:26
are
56:27
very,
56:27
I'm
56:28
myself
56:28
included
56:29
even,
56:29
you
56:29
know,
56:29
now
56:30
having
56:30
caught
56:30
hundreds
56:31
of
56:31
carp
56:31
on
56:31
a
56:32
fly
56:32
rod.
56:32
I,
56:32
I
56:33
still
56:33
get
56:33
giddy
56:34
when
56:34
I
56:34
get
56:34
shots
56:35
and
56:35
opportunities
56:36
at
56:36
fish
56:36
to
56:36
sometimes
56:37
where
56:37
I
56:37
get
56:38
a
56:38
little
56:38
too
56:38
excited
56:39
and
56:39
I
56:39
go
56:39
in
56:39
too
56:39
quickly
56:40
and
56:40
make
56:40
mistakes
56:41
and
56:41
end
56:41
up
56:41
blowing
56:41
that
56:42
fish.
56:42
So
56:43
learning
56:43
to
56:44
fish
56:44
with
56:44
your
56:44
eyes
56:45
is
56:45
a
56:45
critical
56:45
one.
56:46
And
56:47
just
56:47
slowing
56:47
down
56:48
and
56:48
really
56:48
slow
56:49
movements.
56:49
I
56:49
compare
56:50
it.
56:50
I.
56:50
I
56:50
had
56:51
mentioned
56:51
earlier,
56:51
I
56:51
don't
56:52
do
56:52
a
56:52
lot
56:52
of
56:52
hunting
56:52
myself,
56:53
but
56:54
I
56:54
have
56:54
friends
56:54
that
56:55
are
56:55
very
56:55
adamant
56:55
archery
56:56
hunters.
56:56
And
56:57
it's
56:57
very
56:57
similar
56:58
to
56:58
archery,
57:00
you
57:00
know,
57:00
in
57:00
comparison
57:01
to
57:01
gun
57:01
hunting
57:02
for,
57:02
let's
57:02
say
57:02
whitetails,
57:03
where
57:04
if
57:04
you're
57:04
gonna
57:05
whitetail
57:05
hunt
57:05
with
57:06
a
57:06
bow,
57:07
you
57:07
likely
57:07
have
57:08
to,
57:08
to
57:08
get
57:09
pretty
57:09
close
57:09
to
57:09
the
57:10
animal
57:10
or
57:10
Let
57:10
the
57:10
animal
57:11
get
57:11
pretty
57:11
close
57:12
to
57:12
you
57:12
before
57:12
you're
57:13
able
57:13
to
57:13
take
57:13
a
57:13
clean
57:14
shot.
57:14
And
57:15
it's,
57:15
it's
57:15
very
57:15
similar
57:16
to
57:16
carp.
57:16
You
57:16
know,
57:17
you
57:17
don't
57:17
have
57:17
the
57:17
luxury
57:18
of,
57:18
generally
57:19
speaking,
57:19
you
57:19
don't
57:20
have
57:20
the
57:20
luxury
57:20
of
57:20
long
57:21
distance
57:21
reaching
57:22
where
57:22
you
57:23
one,
57:23
you
57:23
can't
57:23
see
57:23
the
57:23
fish
57:24
as
57:24
clearly.
57:24
And
57:25
it's
57:25
very
57:25
critical
57:26
I
57:26
think,
57:26
to
57:26
be
57:27
able
57:27
to
57:27
see
57:27
the
57:27
fish
57:28
feeding
57:28
and
57:28
to
57:29
understand
57:29
where
57:29
it
57:30
is
57:30
in
57:30
relation
57:30
to
57:31
your
57:31
presentation
57:31
and
57:32
your
57:32
fly
57:32
as
57:33
well
57:33
as
57:33
when
57:33
the
57:33
fish
57:34
eats
57:34
the
57:34
fly.
57:34
So
57:35
just
57:35
be
57:36
really
57:36
stealthy,
57:36
you
57:37
know,
57:37
learn
57:37
how
57:37
to
57:37
moonwalk,
57:38
so
57:38
to
57:38
speak,
57:38
where
57:39
you're,
57:39
you're,
57:40
you're
57:40
moving
57:40
at
57:40
a
57:41
very
57:41
slow
57:41
pace,
57:41
especially
57:42
as
57:42
you're
57:42
waiting
57:43
a
57:43
lot
57:43
of,
57:43
a
57:44
lot
57:44
of
57:44
targeting.
57:44
I
57:44
do
57:45
those
57:45
fish,
57:45
I
57:45
try
57:46
to
57:46
stay
57:46
out
57:46
of
57:46
the
57:46
water
57:46
as
57:47
much
57:47
as
57:47
possible.
57:47
If
57:48
I
57:48
have
57:48
places
57:48
I
57:48
can
57:49
go
57:49
in
57:49
and
57:49
fish
57:49
them
57:50
where
57:50
I
57:50
don't
57:51
have
57:51
to
57:51
get
57:51
in
57:51
the
57:51
water,
57:52
I
57:52
will
57:52
always
57:53
tip
57:53
that
57:53
over
57:54
getting
57:54
in
57:54
the
57:54
water.
57:55
That,
57:56
that,
57:56
that
57:56
has
57:56
seemed
57:57
to
57:57
help
57:57
me
57:57
a
57:57
lot
57:57
over
57:57
the
57:58
years.
57:58
It
57:58
sometimes
57:59
can
57:59
be
57:59
a
57:59
little
57:59
bit
57:59
more
57:59
cumbersome
58:00
when
58:00
you
58:00
do
58:00
hook
58:01
the
58:01
fish
58:01
to
58:01
get
58:01
after.
58:02
Figure
58:03
out
58:03
your
58:03
entry
58:03
point
58:04
into
58:04
the
58:04
water
58:04
and
58:04
then
58:05
hope
58:05
that
58:05
there's
58:06
not
58:06
too
58:06
much
58:06
in
58:07
terms
58:07
of
58:07
trouble,
58:07
you
58:07
know,
58:08
wood,
58:08
wood
58:09
in
58:09
the
58:09
water
58:09
or
58:09
anything
58:10
that
58:10
they
58:10
can
58:10
get
58:10
wrapped
58:11
up
58:11
in.
58:11
Cause
58:11
they
58:11
will
58:11
quickly
58:12
take
58:12
you
58:12
to
58:12
it.
58:13
But
58:13
yeah,
58:14
it's
58:14
a,
58:15
be
58:15
as
58:15
stealthy
58:15
as
58:16
you
58:16
possibly
58:16
can.
58:16
It'll
58:17
definitely
58:17
force
58:17
you
58:17
to
58:18
slow
58:18
down
58:18
and,
58:19
and,
58:19
and
58:19
again
58:20
will,
58:20
I
58:20
think
58:21
does
58:21
nothing
58:21
but
58:22
makes
58:22
you
58:22
a
58:22
better
58:22
angler
58:23
and
58:23
helps
58:23
all
58:24
your
58:24
gains.
58:25
Yeah,
58:25
absolutely.
58:25
I
58:26
always
58:26
tell
58:26
people
58:26
just
58:26
because
58:27
you
58:27
have
58:27
a
58:27
pair
58:27
of
58:27
waiters
58:28
doesn't
58:28
mean
58:28
you
58:28
need
58:28
to
58:28
use
58:28
them
58:29
a
58:30
hundred
58:30
percent.
58:30
Yep,
58:30
that's
58:31
a
58:31
hundred
58:31
percent.
58:31
And
58:32
in
58:32
the
58:32
summer
58:32
months
58:32
here,
58:33
I
58:33
mean
58:33
even
58:33
in
58:33
the
58:33
springtime,
58:34
I,
58:35
I
58:35
start
58:35
wet
58:35
wading
58:36
usually
58:36
when
58:36
the
58:36
water
58:37
hits
58:37
about
58:37
50
58:37
degrees.
58:38
And
58:39
generally
58:39
I'm
58:40
not
58:40
doing
58:40
a
58:40
lot
58:40
of
58:40
deep
58:41
wading.
58:41
So
58:42
at
58:42
50
58:42
degrees
58:43
up
58:43
to
58:43
my
58:43
knees,
58:44
maybe
58:44
into
58:45
my
58:45
thigh
58:45
region,
58:45
I'm
58:46
pretty
58:46
comfortable
58:46
with
58:47
that.
58:47
And
58:48
yeah,
58:48
the,
58:48
the
58:49
less
58:49
you
58:49
carry,
58:49
the
58:50
better.
58:51
You
58:51
want
58:51
to
58:51
work
58:51
on
58:52
being
58:52
quiet
58:53
and
58:53
as
58:53
stealthy
58:54
as
58:54
possible
58:54
when
58:54
facilium
58:55
because
58:55
they,
58:56
they
58:57
feel
58:57
really
58:57
well
58:57
and
58:58
I
58:58
think
58:58
in
58:58
Clearwater
58:59
especially,
58:59
they
58:59
see
59:00
a
59:00
lot
59:00
better
59:00
than
59:00
they're
59:01
given
59:01
credit
59:01
for.
59:02
Very
59:03
cool.
59:03
Are
59:03
there
59:03
any
59:04
other
59:05
warm
59:05
water
59:05
species,
59:06
Letty,
59:06
that
59:06
you
59:07
go
59:07
out
59:07
of
59:07
your
59:07
way
59:07
to
59:07
chase
59:07
on
59:08
the
59:08
fly
59:08
rod?
59:09
All
59:09
of
59:09
them,
59:09
man.
59:09
I,
59:10
I,
59:10
there's
59:10
not
59:11
a
59:11
fish,
59:11
there
59:11
is
59:11
not
59:11
a
59:12
species
59:12
of
59:12
fish.
59:12
I've
59:13
met
59:13
in
59:13
my
59:13
life
59:13
that
59:13
I
59:13
haven't
59:14
liked.
59:14
I,
59:14
I
59:15
enjoy
59:16
everything
59:17
from
59:17
bluegill
59:18
all
59:19
the
59:19
way
59:19
up
59:19
to,
59:19
you
59:20
know,
59:20
the
59:20
largest
59:20
species
59:21
I've
59:21
been
59:21
able
59:21
to
59:22
target
59:22
in
59:22
the
59:22
ocean.
59:23
But
59:24
for
59:24
on
59:24
the
59:24
warm
59:25
water
59:25
front,
59:25
I
59:25
have
59:26
a
59:27
pretty
59:27
strong
59:27
love.
59:28
I
59:28
don't
59:28
get
59:28
to
59:28
do
59:28
it
59:28
as
59:29
much
59:29
as
59:29
I
59:29
used
59:29
to,
59:30
but
59:30
I
59:30
really
59:31
love
59:31
freshwater
59:31
drum
59:33
though.
59:33
That's
59:33
a
59:33
really
59:34
cool
59:34
native
59:34
species
59:35
of
59:35
fish
59:35
we
59:35
have
59:36
here
59:36
in
59:36
the
59:36
Great
59:36
Lakes
59:36
and
59:37
a
59:37
lot
59:37
of
59:37
our
59:38
inland
59:38
rivers.
59:39
Th
59:39
those
59:40
ones
59:40
are
59:40
a
59:40
lot
59:41
of
59:41
fun
59:41
and
59:41
can
59:41
be
59:42
a
59:42
very
59:42
technical
59:42
and
59:43
challenging
59:43
fish.
59:43
They
59:44
also
59:44
grow
59:44
to
59:45
be
59:45
pretty
59:45
large,
59:45
so
59:46
those
59:46
are
59:47
wonderful
59:47
species.
59:48
I
59:48
really,
59:48
really
59:48
enjoy
59:49
bullfin.
59:50
That's
59:51
another
59:51
native
59:51
species
59:52
that
59:52
we
59:52
have
59:52
here
59:52
in
59:53
the
59:53
Great
59:53
Lakes.
59:53
Not
59:53
to
59:54
be
59:54
confused
59:54
with
59:54
the
59:55
snakehead
59:55
which
59:56
is
59:56
an
59:56
invasive
59:57
species.
59:57
But
59:57
the
59:57
bowfin
59:58
is
59:58
native.
59:59
Those
1:00:00
fish
1:00:00
have
1:00:00
been
1:00:00
here
1:00:01
for
1:00:01
a
1:00:01
very
1:00:01
long
1:00:01
time.
1:00:02
Those
1:00:03
ones
1:00:03
are
1:00:03
really
1:00:03
cool
1:00:04
cause
1:00:04
they
1:00:04
have
1:00:04
kind
1:00:04
of
1:00:04
a
1:00:05
different
1:00:05
temperament
1:00:06
than
1:00:06
carp.
1:00:06
They're
1:00:08
a
1:00:08
little
1:00:08
bit
1:00:09
more
1:00:09
ballsy,
1:00:09
so
1:00:10
to
1:00:10
speak.
1:00:10
They're
1:00:10
not
1:00:11
typically
1:00:11
as
1:00:11
afraid
1:00:12
of
1:00:12
people
1:00:13
or
1:00:13
boats
1:00:14
or
1:00:14
wade
1:00:15
fishermen.
1:00:15
They,
1:00:16
they
1:00:16
almost
1:00:16
will
1:00:17
come
1:00:17
investigate
1:00:18
you
1:00:18
at
1:00:18
some
1:00:18
times
1:00:18
of
1:00:18
the
1:00:19
year.
1:00:19
They're
1:00:19
a
1:00:19
little
1:00:19
bit
1:00:19
more
1:00:20
robust
1:00:20
in
1:00:20
that
1:00:21
sense
1:00:21
of
1:00:21
things.
1:00:22
So
1:00:22
those
1:00:23
are
1:00:23
really
1:00:23
fun
1:00:23
to
1:00:23
feed
1:00:24
with.
1:00:24
Flies.
1:00:25
Don't
1:00:25
get
1:00:25
to
1:00:26
see
1:00:26
a
1:00:26
lot
1:00:26
of
1:00:26
them
1:00:26
in
1:00:26
the
1:00:27
river
1:00:27
throughout
1:00:27
the
1:00:27
year.
1:00:28
There's
1:00:28
not
1:00:28
a
1:00:29
giant
1:00:29
population
1:00:30
density
1:00:30
of
1:00:31
them
1:00:31
here
1:00:31
in
1:00:31
the
1:00:31
Huron
1:00:32
system.
1:00:32
But
1:00:33
every
1:00:33
time
1:00:33
I
1:00:33
come
1:00:33
across
1:00:34
one
1:00:34
I
1:00:34
get
1:00:34
really,
1:00:35
really
1:00:35
excited
1:00:35
and
1:00:36
you
1:00:36
know,
1:00:36
I'm
1:00:36
hopeful
1:00:37
that
1:00:37
I
1:00:37
can
1:00:37
feed
1:00:37
it
1:00:38
a
1:00:38
fly.
1:00:38
I
1:00:38
also
1:00:39
really
1:00:39
like
1:00:39
garbage.
1:00:40
Our
1:00:40
gar
1:00:40
here
1:00:41
are
1:00:41
really
1:00:41
fun
1:00:41
and
1:00:42
enjoyable
1:00:42
and
1:00:43
we
1:00:43
have
1:00:43
decent
1:00:44
population
1:00:44
numbers
1:00:45
of
1:00:45
those
1:00:45
fish
1:00:45
in
1:00:46
both
1:00:46
our
1:00:46
rivers
1:00:46
and
1:00:46
our
1:00:47
bigger
1:00:47
lakes.
1:00:47
So
1:00:48
yeah,
1:00:48
I,
1:00:48
I
1:00:49
all
1:00:49
the
1:00:49
above.
1:00:50
There
1:00:50
is
1:00:50
not
1:00:50
a
1:00:50
warm
1:00:51
water
1:00:51
species
1:00:51
of
1:00:51
fish
1:00:52
I
1:00:52
don't
1:00:52
like
1:00:52
to
1:00:52
pursue.
1:00:53
Well,
1:00:54
there
1:00:54
you
1:00:54
go.
1:00:54
Well,
1:00:54
before
1:00:54
I
1:00:55
let
1:00:55
you
1:00:55
go
1:00:55
tonight,
1:00:55
are
1:00:55
there
1:00:55
any
1:00:56
upcoming
1:00:56
events
1:00:56
at
1:00:56
Schultz
1:00:57
Outfitters
1:00:57
you
1:00:57
want
1:00:57
to
1:00:58
let
1:00:58
folks
1:00:58
know
1:00:58
about?
1:00:59
The
1:00:59
good
1:01:00
news,
1:01:00
we're,
1:01:00
we're
1:01:00
event
1:01:01
free
1:01:01
for
1:01:01
a
1:01:01
little
1:01:01
while
1:01:02
here.
1:01:02
We
1:01:02
have
1:01:02
a,
1:01:03
a
1:01:03
bass
1:01:03
tournament
1:01:04
that
1:01:04
we're
1:01:04
doing
1:01:04
on
1:01:04
the
1:01:04
conventional
1:01:05
side
1:01:05
of
1:01:05
things
1:01:06
that's
1:01:06
in
1:01:06
May.
1:01:06
That's
1:01:07
our
1:01:07
G
1:01:07
side
1:01:07
or
1:01:07
bass
1:01:08
bash
1:01:08
that
1:01:08
we
1:01:08
do
1:01:09
every
1:01:09
spring.
1:01:10
And
1:01:10
then
1:01:10
our
1:01:10
next
1:01:11
big
1:01:11
fly
1:01:11
event
1:01:11
is
1:01:12
going
1:01:12
to
1:01:12
be
1:01:12
our
1:01:12
demo
1:01:12
days
1:01:13
event
1:01:13
which
1:01:13
that's
1:01:13
in
1:01:14
June
1:01:14
1st
1:01:15
Saturday
1:01:15
and
1:01:15
Sunday
1:01:16
of
1:01:16
the
1:01:16
month.
1:01:16
So
1:01:17
it's
1:01:17
kind
1:01:17
of
1:01:17
a
1:01:17
week
1:01:18
long
1:01:18
event
1:01:18
that
1:01:18
leads
1:01:19
up
1:01:19
to
1:01:19
a
1:01:19
bigger
1:01:19
program
1:01:20
on
1:01:20
the
1:01:20
weekend.
1:01:21
So
1:01:21
that
1:01:21
one's
1:01:22
coming
1:01:22
up
1:01:22
here.
1:01:22
We're
1:01:23
looking
1:01:23
forward
1:01:23
to
1:01:23
that.
1:01:23
Excited
1:01:24
for
1:01:24
it
1:01:24
and
1:01:25
kind
1:01:26
of
1:01:26
the
1:01:26
nice
1:01:26
Part
1:01:26
of
1:01:26
the
1:01:26
springtime
1:01:27
here
1:01:27
as
1:01:27
we
1:01:28
we
1:01:28
get
1:01:28
to
1:01:28
go
1:01:28
a
1:01:29
little
1:01:29
bit
1:01:29
of
1:01:29
time
1:01:29
without
1:01:29
events
1:01:30
here
1:01:30
at
1:01:30
the
1:01:30
store,
1:01:31
take
1:01:31
a
1:01:32
break
1:01:32
from
1:01:32
our
1:01:32
winter
1:01:33
routine
1:01:33
of
1:01:34
quite
1:01:34
a
1:01:34
few
1:01:34
events
1:01:35
packed
1:01:35
and
1:01:35
crammed
1:01:36
in
1:01:36
there.
1:01:36
So
1:01:37
gives
1:01:37
everybody
1:01:37
a
1:01:38
little
1:01:38
bit
1:01:38
of
1:01:38
a
1:01:38
break
1:01:38
and
1:01:38
a
1:01:39
reset
1:01:39
and
1:01:39
some
1:01:39
time
1:01:40
on
1:01:40
the
1:01:40
water.
1:01:40
But
1:01:40
yeah,
1:01:41
June
1:01:41
will
1:01:41
be
1:01:41
our
1:01:41
first
1:01:42
one
1:01:42
coming
1:01:42
up
1:01:42
here
1:01:42
for
1:01:43
on
1:01:43
the
1:01:43
fly
1:01:44
end
1:01:44
of
1:01:44
things.
1:01:45
Very
1:01:45
cool.
1:01:45
Anything
1:01:46
else
1:01:46
you
1:01:46
want
1:01:46
to
1:01:46
share
1:01:46
with
1:01:47
our
1:01:47
listeners?
1:01:49
I
1:01:49
want
1:01:49
to
1:01:49
say
1:01:49
thanks
1:01:50
to
1:01:50
everyone
1:01:50
who
1:01:50
tunes
1:01:51
in
1:01:51
and
1:01:51
listens
1:01:51
to
1:01:52
this
1:01:52
once
1:01:52
you
1:01:53
put
1:01:53
it
1:01:53
out
1:01:53
there
1:01:53
in
1:01:53
space,
1:01:54
Marv,
1:01:54
and
1:01:55
really
1:01:55
appreciate
1:01:55
anyone
1:01:56
who
1:01:56
comes
1:01:56
along
1:01:56
and
1:01:57
listens
1:01:57
to
1:01:57
me
1:01:58
speak
1:01:58
for
1:01:58
an
1:01:58
hour.
1:01:59
Yeah,
1:01:59
well,
1:01:59
there
1:01:59
you
1:01:59
go.
1:02:00
And
1:02:00
you
1:02:00
know
1:02:00
what's
1:02:00
the
1:02:00
best
1:02:00
way,
1:02:01
Sleddy,
1:02:01
for
1:02:01
folks
1:02:02
to
1:02:02
kind
1:02:02
of
1:02:02
follow
1:02:02
your
1:02:03
adventures
1:02:03
on
1:02:03
the
1:02:03
water
1:02:03
and
1:02:04
keep
1:02:04
up

In

1:02:07
our
1:02:08

1:02:08

1:02:09
I
1:02:09
mean
1:02:09
we,
1:02:09
we
1:02:10
do
1:02:10
a
1:02:10
lot
1:02:10
on
1:02:10
the
1:02:11
Instagram
1:02:11
front
1:02:11
of
1:02:12
things.
1:02:12
That's
1:02:12
a
1:02:12
big
1:02:12
part
1:02:12
of
1:02:13
the
1:02:13
mechanism.
1:02:13
We're
1:02:14
fortunate
1:02:14
to
1:02:14
have
1:02:15
a
1:02:15
really
1:02:16
good
1:02:16
cat
1:02:16
behind
1:02:16
the
1:02:17
lens
1:02:17
and
1:02:17
the
1:02:18
audio
1:02:18
end
1:02:18
of
1:02:18
things
1:02:19
here.
1:02:19
Nick
1:02:19
Mindsayer,
1:02:20
he,
1:02:20
he
1:02:21
does
1:02:21
the
1:02:21
majority
1:02:21
of
1:02:22
our
1:02:22
social
1:02:22
media
1:02:23
feeds,
1:02:23
video
1:02:24
work,
1:02:24
fly
1:02:24
tying
1:02:25
stuff.
1:02:25
So
1:02:26
he's
1:02:26
doing
1:02:26
most
1:02:27
of
1:02:27
that
1:02:27
on
1:02:27
our
1:02:28
Schultz
1:02:28
Outfitters
1:02:29
page
1:02:29
there.
1:02:30
That's
1:02:30
definitely
1:02:30
the
1:02:30
most
1:02:31
the
1:02:31
best
1:02:31
way
1:02:31
to
1:02:31
stay
1:02:32
in
1:02:32
tap
1:02:32
with
1:02:32
what's
1:02:33
going
1:02:33
on
1:02:33
here
1:02:33
at
1:02:33
the
1:02:34
store
1:02:34
and
1:02:34
on
1:02:35
the
1:02:35
water.
1:02:36
I
1:02:36
personally
1:02:36
am
1:02:36
not
1:02:37
using
1:02:37
social
1:02:38
media
1:02:38
a
1:02:38
lot
1:02:38
these
1:02:39
days
1:02:39
myself,
1:02:40
but
1:02:40
any,
1:02:41
any
1:02:41
good
1:02:41
fishing
1:02:42
photos
1:02:42
and
1:02:42
things
1:02:43
that
1:02:43
I'm
1:02:43
doing
1:02:43
get
1:02:43
passed
1:02:44
along
1:02:44
to
1:02:44
him
1:02:44
and
1:02:45
regurgitated
1:02:46
on
1:02:46
the
1:02:46
Schultz
1:02:47
Outfitters
1:02:47
feed.
1:02:48
So.
1:02:49
And
1:02:49
then
1:02:49
obviously
1:02:49
for
1:02:50
anybody
1:02:50
who's
1:02:51
somewhat
1:02:51
local
1:02:51
here
1:02:52
to
1:02:52
the
1:02:52
store
1:02:52
or
1:02:53
a
1:02:53
Michigan
1:02:54
or
1:02:54
Midwest
1:02:54
based
1:02:55
human
1:02:55
that
1:02:56
ever
1:02:56
makes
1:02:56
their
1:02:56
way
1:02:57
over,
1:02:57
coming
1:02:57
in
1:02:57
and
1:02:58
stopping
1:02:58
in
1:02:58
and
1:02:58
saying
1:02:58
hi,
1:02:59
introducing
1:02:59
yourself,
1:03:00
be
1:03:00
happy
1:03:00
to
1:03:00
give
1:03:00
you
1:03:01
updates
1:03:01
on
1:03:01
what
1:03:01
we
1:03:02
got
1:03:02
going
1:03:02
on
1:03:02
and
1:03:03
share
1:03:03
some
1:03:03
fishy
1:03:04
tales
1:03:04
with
1:03:04
you.
1:03:04
Yeah.
1:03:05
And
1:03:05
you've
1:03:05
got
1:03:05
a
1:03:05
preactive
1:03:06
forum
1:03:06
on
1:03:06
Facebook
1:03:06
too,
1:03:07
right?
1:03:07
Absolutely.
1:03:08
Yeah,
1:03:08
we
1:03:08
have
1:03:08
a
1:03:09
customer
1:03:09
forum
1:03:09
on
1:03:09
there.
1:03:10
So
1:03:10
anybody
1:03:10
who
1:03:11
shops
1:03:11
with
1:03:11
us
1:03:12
or
1:03:12
does
1:03:12
anything
1:03:12
with
1:03:12
the
1:03:13
store,
1:03:13
that's
1:03:13
a,
1:03:13
a
1:03:14
great
1:03:14
resource
1:03:14
to
1:03:15
get
1:03:15
into
1:03:15
and
1:03:15
that'll
1:03:16
also
1:03:16
help
1:03:17
anybody
1:03:17
that
1:03:17
wants
1:03:17
to
1:03:18
tap
1:03:18
into
1:03:18
the
1:03:18
local
1:03:18
angling
1:03:19
community.
1:03:19
We've
1:03:20
seen
1:03:20
a
1:03:21
lot
1:03:21
of
1:03:21
people
1:03:21
build
1:03:21
great
1:03:22
friendships
1:03:22
and
1:03:22
relationships
1:03:23
off
1:03:23
of
1:03:23
that
1:03:24
form
1:03:24
over
1:03:24
the
1:03:24
years
1:03:25
and
1:03:25
lifelong
1:03:26
angling
1:03:26
companions.
1:03:27
So
1:03:27
that's
1:03:27
a
1:03:27
good
1:03:27
one.
1:03:28
Schultz
1:03:28
Outfitters
1:03:29
customer
1:03:30
Facebook
1:03:30
form.
1:03:31
And
1:03:31
it
1:03:31
doesn't
1:03:31
hurt,
1:03:32
right?
1:03:32
Because
1:03:32
Custis
1:03:32
get
1:03:33
it
1:03:33
first.
1:03:34
Absolutely.
1:03:34
Custody's
1:03:35
always
1:03:35
good
1:03:35
first.
1:03:37
Well,
1:03:37
Sleddy,
1:03:38
I
1:03:38
appreciate
1:03:38
you
1:03:39
hanging
1:03:39
out
1:03:39
in
1:03:39
the
1:03:40
shop
1:03:40
for
1:03:40
a
1:03:40
little
1:03:41
bit
1:03:41
more
1:03:41
than
1:03:41
an
1:03:41
hour
1:03:41
to.
1:03:42
To
1:03:42
chat
1:03:43
with
1:03:43
me
1:03:43
this
1:03:43
evening.
1:03:43
It's
1:03:43
been
1:03:43
a
1:03:44
ton
1:03:44
of
1:03:44
fun.
1:03:45
Absolutely.
1:03:45
Marvin,
1:03:46
thank
1:03:46
you
1:03:46
so
1:03:46
much
1:03:46
for
1:03:46
having
1:03:47
me
1:03:47
on,
1:03:47
man.
1:03:47
And
1:03:47
it's
1:03:48
been
1:03:48
a
1:03:48
pleasure.
1:03:48
Yeah,
1:03:49
come
1:03:49
back
1:03:49
anytime.
1:03:50
Take
1:03:50
care.
1:03:51
Cool.
1:03:51
You
1:03:51
too,
1:03:51
man.
1:03:52
We'll
1:03:52
see
1:03:52
you.
1:03:53
Well,
1:03:54
folks,
1:03:54
we
1:03:54
hope
1:03:54
you
1:03:55
enjoyed
1:03:55
the
1:03:55
interview
1:03:55
as
1:03:56
much
1:03:56
as
1:03:56
we
1:03:56
enjoyed
1:03:56
bringing
1:03:57
it
1:03:57
to
1:03:57
you.
1:03:57

1:03:58
