- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, friend.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike McCurray.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to Bible Trek Echoes.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: We've been talking this week about the choice that every person is faced with not just Christians, but every man woman or child on the face of the earth.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: We are all faced with the choice.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_01]: We have an opportunity before us.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: We can choose God's best, or we can choose anything else.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the evil one, the devil, Satan, Lucifer, as he's off to known,
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: He would love for us to choose anything, except for God's will.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: God's will, God's best.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: We often make it this murky, ephemeral thing that it's so difficult to figure out.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: But in reality, God's best, he wants it for us.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: He does not want to hide it.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: He does not want to make it difficult.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, it's often easy to figure out what God wants us to do, it's the doing of it.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's the hard thing.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we're talking about this week.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like you to turn to First Samuel chapter 13.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: We've pointed out that there are some inscriptions in the Bible.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: We're using Bible examples.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: that have chosen sin over God's best.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: You and I both know many Christians that have made that choice.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: You and I both know people that we look at in the mirror, every morning that we make that choice too.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Then there's the choice between God's best or silver material goods, the money of this world, filthy loaker.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, sin, silver, or skepticism.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: many times we don't believe God the way we should.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: Many times we don't put our faith and trust.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: We trust Him for eternity, but we don't trust Him for the here and now.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: He's good never heaven, but not right now.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: These things ought not so to be.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: I want to ask if you would grab your Bibles for Samuel chapter 13 is where we will be today for Samuel chapter 13 in our
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible says in verse 8, and he, speaking of Saul, King's Saul, carried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed, but Samuel came not to Gilgile and the people were scattered from him.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: And Saul said, bring Hithor, a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings, and he offered the burnt offering.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we know that Saul was the king.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: He was not the prophet.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: He was not the priest.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: He was not the one that was supposed to be offering these bird offerings, and yet he did.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: He had a choice between the best, God's best, and self will.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now I realize there is impatience that was part of this.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: I realize that there was a little bit of angst, a little bit of irritation with Samuel being quote unquote late, but he was right on Samuel was right on God's timing.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't late, he was following what God wanted him to do, and yes, Saul chose self-will.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think back to earlier in Scripture, when Saul was given the opportunity to become the king, all the way back in the first Samuel chapter number nine, what did he do?
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: He downplayed himself.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: He felt like he could not handle being the king.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: He even, when the people were looking for, the Bible says, he hit amongst the stuff.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: He was kind of trepidacious of it.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: He was unsure.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: It was like a confidence and he didn't think he was the right man for the job.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: When he wasn't big enough for the job, that was when God could use him.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: See King was not enough for him, he felt like there was something more, and so he steps outside the bounds of his responsibility and does what the priests were supposed to do.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: He was the people's choice.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: The people saw him as head and shoulders by everyone.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: He was the most powerful man in the kingdom.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: He was the king, but it wasn't good enough.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: He, whether he would say it in so many words, wanted,
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: more.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: Proverbs 14, verse 12, there is a way which seemed to the right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, James chapter 4, verse 10, humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: who's doing the lifting.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: We talk about the American concept of picking yourself up by your boots traps, but it is God at the end of the day that does the raising and the lowering, and we'd be very wise to wait on his time schedule just like Saul did not do.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: the best or sin, the best or silver, the best or skepticism.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Here we see the best or self will.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: I hope you'll make the right choice today, but that's not the only one I want to speak about today.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: There's one more.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: Go to Genesis chapter 4.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to find my place there as well.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: We looked earlier in the week at
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Adam and Eve, when we looked at how she, Eve and Adam really chose sin over God's best.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: But now we see verse number three of chapter four and in the process of time it came to pass that cane brought up the fruit of the ground and offering unto the Lord.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: Enable, he also brought up the first slings of his flock and of the fathor of
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: and to his offering.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: But in decaying into his offering, he had not respect and cane was very wroth in his countenance fell.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I don't know specifically though I could guess
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know specifically if God gave them exact mandates on for what he was looking for.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: I believe there's enough picture and there's enough insinuation previously in Scripture how an animal had to die so Adam and Eve could be clothe.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: I believe you could very easily make the case that God gave clear instructions to these boys, Cain and Abel about what they were supposed to bring.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: But regardless, let's just say Cain is finding out for the first time.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: that God would prefer the bringing of a lamb, not fruits and vegetable.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what is his response?
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: You would think you would just give God what he wants.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: God is not some dictator lording over us in that he is changing his mind.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: He is not fickle.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: He is immutable.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: He changes not.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: And so, King could have easily said, well Lord, if God, if that's what you want, I'd be happy to get it for you.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: I know where I can get a lamb.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: My brother has them.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: I will go get one from him.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: I will ask him.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: I will buy one from him.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to give you what you want.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: But there is a choice that you and I have, not just the best or sin, not just the best or self will, silver or skepticism.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: There's a choice between the best or a substitute.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: See friend, we are often given the opportunity to make choices about what we give God, and what we often do many a time, at least I can speak for myself, is we give God what we want to give God.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of finding out, I think of like a waiter who is waiting on with great service, good customer service, instead of waiting on God and taking his precise order, God, what would you like?
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: You want some water with lemon?
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: You want a few ice cubes in there?
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: How would you like your steak cooked?
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'd like to give it to you the precise way that you'd like not because we're going to get a tip because you want to please the master.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well that's not how we approach it often.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: We give God what we want to give God.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: If he has a special request for us, we say, ah, that's not on the menu.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: I have not allowed.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really open to those options.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what I want to give you.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: I worked hard on this.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: I've saved over this.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: I've put time, effort and energy.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know,
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: I do believe we could make the case, I believe it's true, that Cain knew what he was supposed to bring.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: God doesn't hide his will, but Cain labored over it not in a wrong way, he was a worker, he was doing a good thing, growing these fruits and vegetables, but then he brings them and then was the Bible say.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: First number five, but under Cain and two is offering he had not respect and Cain was
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: and the Lord said unto Cain.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: Why aren't thou wrath?
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: And why is thy countenance fallen?
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: If thou doest well and that's another reason why I believe Cain knew he was supposed to do.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: If thou doest well, shall thou not be accepted?
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: And if thou doest not well, sin, lieeth.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: at the door.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: But Cain doesn't just get angry, he goes one step further.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: He kills his brother.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: When it is finished, bring it forth to death, and not always just your own, it will affect those around you often with bad effects.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: sin.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it'll get you and I understand it.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: It'll trip all of us up for the rest of our days.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: Something to be aware of, something to fight against.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: Skepticism, we all have a few moments of doubts here and there.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Self will.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: Only by pride, come with contention, silver.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: We all love money a little
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: We are offered the chance.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: At God's best, not just the chance, the certainty of God's best if we would just give God what he wants, and yet we choose.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: substitution.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: I hope that's not the case for you today.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: Tomorrow on the broadcast we're going to share one more choice between the best or will fill in the blank on the Friday broadcast and I have an account of story.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd like to share with you tomorrow as well.
