- 1:07SPEAKER_1: How are you?
- 1:09SPEAKER_2: Good evening, Reverend Alexander.
- 1:10SPEAKER_2: Good to be with you.
- 1:11SPEAKER_2: Just getting back in from another meeting.
- 1:14SPEAKER_2: So just glad to be here.
- 1:16SPEAKER_1: All right.
- 1:17SPEAKER_1: Well, I'm going to give you a second just to kind of settle down.
- 1:19SPEAKER_1: Let us pray.
- 1:20SPEAKER_1: Father God, Lord, we thank you for this day.
- 1:22SPEAKER_1: Lord, we thank you for just being a God, Lord, that we can remember.
- 1:27SPEAKER_1: That we have to praise you, Lord.
- 1:29SPEAKER_1: Praise you, Lord, when things are going great, when things are not going so great.
- 1:33SPEAKER_1: But knowing you're still God, you're sitting high, you're looking low.
- 1:36SPEAKER_1: So, Lord,
- 1:36SPEAKER_1: now we ask that you just lead us,
- 1:38SPEAKER_1: guide us, and direct us on tonight as we go through our conversation.
- 1:41SPEAKER_1: Lord, let us allow you to direct us.
- 1:44SPEAKER_1: Let us provide substance to our conversation.
- 1:48SPEAKER_1: Lord, we ask you bless our listening audience and all that we do and say on tonight.
- 1:52SPEAKER_1: In Jesus' name I pray.
- 1:54SPEAKER_1: Amen.
- 1:55SPEAKER_1: Well, I'm Tony Alexander.
- 1:56SPEAKER_1: I'm glad to be with you with our president on tonight, Pastor David W. Greene Sr.

- 2:13SPEAKER_1: You can also comment on our Facebook page, The Concerned Clergy of Indianapolis.
- 2:18SPEAKER_1: We also share it to our individual pages as well.
- 2:21SPEAKER_1: So feel free to do that.
- 2:23SPEAKER_1: And once again,
- 2:23SPEAKER_1: don't forget,
- 2:24SPEAKER_1: we have the Substack that will be the replay on tomorrow,
- 2:27SPEAKER_1: the Progressive Indiana Network.
- 2:30SPEAKER_1: Mr. President,
- 2:31SPEAKER_1: we've got,
- 2:31SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 2:32SPEAKER_1: quite a bit that's going on now just before,
- 2:36SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 2:36SPEAKER_1: we're only a little bit,
- 2:38SPEAKER_1: almost 30 days out for early voting, lots of stuff going on.
- 2:43SPEAKER_1: We've got,
- 2:45SPEAKER_1: we're still dealing with disasters up in Northwest Indiana and other places here
- 2:50SPEAKER_1: in Indiana.
- 2:52SPEAKER_1: We're hearing that ICE here as well in Central Indiana,
- 2:56SPEAKER_1: specifically right here in the city of Indianapolis and in Marion County,
- 3:01SPEAKER_1: there's so much going on and we need to,
- 3:05SPEAKER_1: you know, do what we can where we can help, you know, inform the community.
- 3:09SPEAKER_1: And part of that is going to be sharing resources or at least trying
- 3:14SPEAKER_1: to help guide folks to where you can make sure that you're able to at least apply
- 3:21SPEAKER_1: for grants,
- 3:22SPEAKER_1: get information for what funding's out there,
- 3:25SPEAKER_1: especially if you've been impacted by some of the recent events that we had here
- 3:30SPEAKER_1: with the floods and everything that happened just,
- 3:35SPEAKER_1: I don't know, second week of August, you know, per se.
- 3:38SPEAKER_1: But Mr. President, I do want to start with the ICE situation right here in Indianapolis.
- 3:45SPEAKER_1: We're hearing a lot about folks and folks that are U.S. citizens.
- 3:51SPEAKER_1: However, they're being caught up in a wave.
- 3:54SPEAKER_1: I know that you've spoken out about it.
- 3:58SPEAKER_1: I know there's been a statement that's been put together.
- 4:00SPEAKER_1: So I'm going to kind of toss it to you and, you know,
- 4:03SPEAKER_1: kind of share from your Concerned Clergy leadership,
- 4:07SPEAKER_1: you know, kind of what you're hearing, what you're seeing and what you're saying.
- 4:13SPEAKER_2: Well, we know with certainty that ICE is in our city.
- 4:20SPEAKER_2: We know that they're operating on the east and west side,
- 4:24SPEAKER_2: north side and went down on the south side today.
- 4:27SPEAKER_2: They've been here this week.
- 4:31SPEAKER_2: So my understanding is as a result of Todd Rokita really encouraging ICE to come
- 4:37SPEAKER_2: to any city that he felt like wasn't addressing or reflecting the SEA 75 bill
- 4:47SPEAKER_2: that passed that, hey,
- 4:49SPEAKER_2: we needed to have ICE in and be,
- 4:54SPEAKER_2: you know, attacking immigrants for lack of a better term.
- 4:58SPEAKER_2: And so with that happening,
- 5:00SPEAKER_2: we know there's a number of people that are concerned and in a bad place.
- 5:06SPEAKER_2: I mean, it's not limited to, quote-unquote, those who are immigrants.
- 5:10SPEAKER_2: I mean, myself,
- 5:12SPEAKER_2: for example,
- 5:13SPEAKER_2: could be, okay,
- 5:16SPEAKER_2: he's a Haitian,
- 5:17SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 5:18SPEAKER_2: so you could be stopped and based on your skin color,
- 5:23SPEAKER_2: obviously, and be like, okay, now you got to prove all this.
- 5:27SPEAKER_2: And so that stuff is actually happening in our city.
- 5:33SPEAKER_2: I've been there.
- 5:35SPEAKER_2: We'll put this in the link,
- 5:37SPEAKER_2: I guess,
- 5:37SPEAKER_2: on Facebook that there is a thing out there now with any
- 5:42SPEAKER_2: of our faith-based organizations.
- 5:43SPEAKER_2: We got with Rabbi Aaron Spiegel and GIMA
- 5:47SPEAKER_2: because we felt like we were lacking leadership from our city.
- 5:53SPEAKER_2: In terms of the mayor or the city county council,
- 5:57SPEAKER_2: in cities where ICE was pushed back on,
- 6:02SPEAKER_2: it was that leadership that stepped up and said,
- 6:04SPEAKER_2: hey, we don't want this in our city.
- 6:07SPEAKER_2: And sometimes that silence means, okay, that means complicity.
- 6:11SPEAKER_2: It's all right if you do that.
- 6:13SPEAKER_2: And so given that we are a large Democrat city,
- 6:20SPEAKER_2: and the majority of our city county councils are Democrat.
- 6:24SPEAKER_2: The mayor's office is a Democrat.
- 6:27SPEAKER_2: We'd like to see more leadership out of that group.
- 6:31SPEAKER_2: And so we put together,
- 6:33SPEAKER_2: we'll share that on the Facebook page to say,
- 6:36SPEAKER_2: hey, sign up to say, Mayor, we need some real leadership.
- 6:39SPEAKER_2: Now, I understand that the mayor did issue a statement late this afternoon.
- 6:45SPEAKER_2: I have read that statement, Reverend Alexander.
- 6:49SPEAKER_2: But that,
- 6:50SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 6:50SPEAKER_2: just a generic statement saying everybody's welcome and we want people to be free
- 6:55SPEAKER_2: to take advantage of city services is not leadership in this regard.
- 7:03SPEAKER_2: When you look at places,
- 7:04SPEAKER_2: Chicago,
- 7:05SPEAKER_2: et cetera,
- 7:06SPEAKER_2: where there was pushback before something tragic happens, we need leadership.
- 7:13SPEAKER_2: And I'd like to see that out of the existing mayor.
- 7:17SPEAKER_2: We have a number of people running for mayor.
- 7:20SPEAKER_2: It'd be a great opportunity to demonstrate their leadership as well and speak up
- 7:23SPEAKER_2: and say, where are you on ICE?
- 7:25SPEAKER_2: Because if you become the mayor, you're going to have to deal with this particular issue.
- 7:29SPEAKER_2: So let the people know where you are.
- 7:33SPEAKER_2: And so, you know, or is it business as usual and all of you are the same?
- 7:39SPEAKER_2: And so this is an opportunity we're pushing for,
- 7:43SPEAKER_2: especially the faith-based community, to rise up and say, hey, wait a minute.
- 7:48SPEAKER_2: This is not what we want.
- 7:51SPEAKER_2: We're against this.
- 7:52SPEAKER_2: Just separating families, creating trauma, creating stress by illegal acts.
- 8:00SPEAKER_2: Because they're not having a judicial warrant that so-and-so.
- 8:04SPEAKER_2: This all started under the premise that we're going to get the worst of the worst.
- 8:09SPEAKER_2: Nobody's against you getting the worst of the worst.
- 8:12SPEAKER_2: This is being done to people who are positive contributors to our society here in Indiana.
- 8:22SPEAKER_2: Many of these people got jobs.
- 8:24SPEAKER_2: They're not criminals.
- 8:26SPEAKER_2: They haven't robbed anybody.
- 8:28SPEAKER_2: They haven't beaten anybody.
- 8:30SPEAKER_2: They have not molested anybody.
- 8:32SPEAKER_2: They've not killed anybody.
- 8:35SPEAKER_2: And so this is now just a witch hunt of just because of your skin color
- 8:40SPEAKER_2: or your origin, we can do it and we are doing it.
- 8:45SPEAKER_2: And so that merits, you know, a response and it merits leadership.
- 8:50SPEAKER_2: You know, I am challenging all those that are listening.
- 8:53SPEAKER_2: Where's your leadership on this?
- 8:55SPEAKER_2: Especially all those who are out to buy those seats now.
- 8:59SPEAKER_2: Those counselors that are in place.
- 9:02SPEAKER_2: Those mayoral candidates, the mayor himself.
- 9:07SPEAKER_2: You can't give a bland answer or statement.
- 9:10SPEAKER_2: This is if there ever was a time for him to stand in front of a camera.
- 9:15SPEAKER_2: At a press conference and say, here's where we are in Indianapolis.
- 9:19SPEAKER_2: This was it, Reverend Alexander.
- 9:22SPEAKER_2: You know, not at a ribbon cutting.
- 9:24SPEAKER_2: I need you right here to show some leadership.
- 9:28SPEAKER_1: Well, and here's,
- 9:30SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 9:31SPEAKER_1: let me add this caveat to why,
- 9:33SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 9:33SPEAKER_1: it's really so important that it's something that our local leadership responds to.
- 9:41SPEAKER_1: Because many of us,
- 9:42SPEAKER_1: we're aware of what happened in Minnesota,
- 9:45SPEAKER_1: and we saw the back and forth between the Attorney General of Minnesota,
- 9:49SPEAKER_1: the Governor of Minnesota,
- 9:52SPEAKER_1: and then even some of the local leaders,
- 9:56SPEAKER_1: some of the different cities there, such as Minneapolis and things like that.
- 10:00SPEAKER_1: Here's what's different.
- 10:02SPEAKER_1: What's different is,
- 10:04SPEAKER_1: for the most part,
- 10:04SPEAKER_1: all of those leaders are all Democrat,
- 10:06SPEAKER_1: and they all stood up, spoke up, and they stood together.
- 10:10SPEAKER_1: We don't have that luxury here.
- 10:13SPEAKER_1: We can't,
- 10:13SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 10:14SPEAKER_1: depend on, okay, we're going to hear anything from our governor, for instance.
- 10:20SPEAKER_1: You know, that's not going to happen.
- 10:23SPEAKER_1: We can't depend on there's going to be state leadership that's going to be
- 10:27SPEAKER_1: the one that's going to speak out.
- 10:29SPEAKER_1: And then we can kind of support our state leadership when it comes down to here
- 10:35SPEAKER_1: when we're talking about ICE bend in Marion County in Indianapolis.
- 10:39SPEAKER_1: That's why you need,
- 10:42SPEAKER_1: I'm going to say you,
- 10:43SPEAKER_1: you elected officials that are here in Indianapolis,
- 10:48SPEAKER_1: you that are desiring to have these positions that Pastor Greene just talked about,
- 10:53SPEAKER_1: we need you to speak up.
- 10:55SPEAKER_1: Because if you don't, no one's going to know about it.
- 10:59SPEAKER_1: The reason we know so much about Minneapolis,
- 11:02SPEAKER_1: Minnesota,
- 11:03SPEAKER_1: and some of these other places was because those local leaders stood up
- 11:08SPEAKER_1: and spoke out.
- 11:09SPEAKER_1: They were on CNN.
- 11:10SPEAKER_1: They were on all of the different news networks.
- 11:14SPEAKER_1: They were making it a national issue.
- 11:18SPEAKER_1: And we need to make sure that we're highlighting what's going on here in Indianapolis.
- 11:23SPEAKER_1: And let me do this real quick as well,
- 11:25SPEAKER_1: Mr. President, because what you just referred to was the...
- 11:32SPEAKER_1: The statement that you made as well,
- 11:34SPEAKER_1: and you can,
- 11:36SPEAKER_1: we'll share this information here,
- 11:38SPEAKER_1: but there is a press release that is actually,
- 11:41SPEAKER_1: you know, online,
- 11:43SPEAKER_1: and we'll share that information,
- 11:45SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 11:46SPEAKER_1: it's on our,
- 11:46SPEAKER_1: if you happen to be watching this on Facebook,
- 11:48SPEAKER_1: I've got it pulled up,
- 11:50SPEAKER_1: and you see there it says Indianapolis faith leaders call on Mayor Hogsett
- 11:54SPEAKER_1: and City County Council to respond to ICE activity,
- 11:59SPEAKER_1: but it also has a link there for how you can be involved.
- 12:04SPEAKER_1: So you can go in there,
- 12:05SPEAKER_1: you can put your information in,
- 12:07SPEAKER_1: who do you represent,
- 12:09SPEAKER_1: and then go ahead and submit that you are in support of calling our leaders out.
- 12:16SPEAKER_1: So that information is out there.
- 12:19SPEAKER_1: We'll even post it on our social media sites as well.
- 12:23SPEAKER_1: But we understand that it's going to take -- because once again,
- 12:28SPEAKER_1: we don't have an entire state government that's going to speak out on our behalf.
- 12:34SPEAKER_1: We just don't have it.
- 12:35SPEAKER_1: So we need some leaders and it doesn't make any difference if you're a Democrat,
- 12:40SPEAKER_1: Republican, whatever.
- 12:41SPEAKER_1: We need leaders that are going to say we can accept our constituents here,
- 12:47SPEAKER_1: our residents, our citizens.
- 12:50SPEAKER_1: While they may be immigrants,
- 12:52SPEAKER_1: a lot of them are going through the process and they haven't done anything wrong.
- 12:58SPEAKER_1: Exactly.
- 12:58SPEAKER_1: At all.
- 13:00SPEAKER_1: So we need to stand up for those individuals as well.
- 13:03SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of the conversation, you can call in to the radio station.
- 13:07SPEAKER_1: Their phone number is 317-480-1310.
- 13:10SPEAKER_1: And we see we have Imhotep joining us online.
- 13:14SPEAKER_1: We will say good evening to you as well.
- 13:16SPEAKER_1: And Imhotep,
- 13:18SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 13:18SPEAKER_1: puts in our chat here,
- 13:19SPEAKER_1: you know, rule of law has been thrown out when it comes to ICE and IMPD.
- 13:24SPEAKER_1: And even that,
- 13:25SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 13:25SPEAKER_1: when you look at ICE and IMPD,
- 13:28SPEAKER_1: two different agencies,
- 13:31SPEAKER_1: but we have some issues in both cases that the community is concerned about.
- 13:37SPEAKER_1: And even in this case,
- 13:39SPEAKER_1: when we're talking about ICE, you know, I would like, you know, this is myself.
- 13:43SPEAKER_1: I'd like to say, hey, IMPD, help us navigate through this.
- 13:48SPEAKER_1: But they pretty much are like, well, we can't.
- 13:50SPEAKER_1: We don't have any jurisdiction.
- 13:54SPEAKER_1: They're not communicating with us.
- 13:56SPEAKER_1: We don't know when and where they're going to be, Mr. President.
- 14:00SPEAKER_2: Yeah, I mean,
- 14:01SPEAKER_2: unfortunately,
- 14:03SPEAKER_2: this hands-off philosophy that we often practice in Indianapolis
- 14:09SPEAKER_2: or has been practiced by good local government,
- 14:14SPEAKER_2: this is a place where that gets in the way.
- 14:17SPEAKER_2: It's not going to work.
- 14:18SPEAKER_2: Every place where people have pushed back,
- 14:23SPEAKER_2: leadership was at the top of that, saying we don't want this.
- 14:26SPEAKER_2: Now, they can't do it by themselves, but if we get...
- 14:31SPEAKER_2: our faith-based community, other parts of the community, all of us saying this.
- 14:34SPEAKER_2: We can't do it without them saying it.
- 14:38SPEAKER_2: We can't have the elected officials operating with a sock in their mouth
- 14:43SPEAKER_2: on this particular issue,
- 14:45SPEAKER_2: trying to be on both sides of the issue,
- 14:48SPEAKER_2: being one way in the room and then another way.
- 14:52SPEAKER_2: Oh, yeah,
- 14:53SPEAKER_2: that's a shame when they're out in the community,
- 14:55SPEAKER_2: but never put themselves on public record for where they stand.
- 14:58SPEAKER_2: And that's my concern.
- 15:01SPEAKER_2: Are you for it?
- 15:03SPEAKER_2: Are you really for this?
- 15:05SPEAKER_2: I mean, because we know at the core,
- 15:09SPEAKER_2: even the diehard Republicans know, you were told this is for the worst of the worst.
- 15:14SPEAKER_2: We're going to get them off the streets.
- 15:17SPEAKER_2: Okay?
- 15:18SPEAKER_2: But that's not what's happening.
- 15:21SPEAKER_2: We're taking people and saying,
- 15:24SPEAKER_2: hey, we're going to take and swoop you up that have no criminal record whatsoever.
- 15:30SPEAKER_2: They're just guilty of being in America.
- 15:37SPEAKER_1: And, you know, you actually do have -- and I want to bring our press release back up.
- 15:43SPEAKER_1: You actually do have some Republicans that are really coming to that same conclusion
- 15:48SPEAKER_1: that you're at.
- 15:49SPEAKER_1: It's like, wait a minute, you're -- you're messing up families and...
- 15:56SPEAKER_1: People that have been here,
- 15:58SPEAKER_1: they've been contributing to society,
- 16:00SPEAKER_1: they've been working,
- 16:03SPEAKER_1: gainfully employed,
- 16:05SPEAKER_1: pouring into the economic system,
- 16:08SPEAKER_1: as well as paying whatever taxes,
- 16:13SPEAKER_1: going to their court appointments,
- 16:17SPEAKER_1: doing everything that they have been instructed to do.
- 16:22SPEAKER_1: And here, what we're doing is, we're just swooping them up.
- 16:27SPEAKER_1: Now, here in Indianapolis, I do want to say a couple of things that I want to highlight.
- 16:33SPEAKER_1: One, they're really targeting,
- 16:36SPEAKER_1: if you're listening to the reporting, they're targeting work vans.
- 16:41SPEAKER_1: They're targeting landscapers.
- 16:46SPEAKER_1: While they may not be hanging out at Home Depot,
- 16:49SPEAKER_1: they're still looking for some of those folks that may have just left Home Depot,
- 16:53SPEAKER_1: if you know what I'm saying.
- 16:55SPEAKER_1: They're still targeting all of those individuals.
- 16:58SPEAKER_1: So here it is, they're working.
- 17:00SPEAKER_1: They're not going to some corner where you got a bunch of illegal immigrants doing drug deals.
- 17:06SPEAKER_1: No, they're going to places where they're being productive,
- 17:09SPEAKER_1: feeding their families, doing something good in the community, Mr. President.
- 17:14SPEAKER_2: Exactly.
- 17:15SPEAKER_2: And so that's really my problem with this whole philosophy and execution of it.
- 17:23SPEAKER_2: And here we are on Wednesday, and this has been going on since Monday.
- 17:27SPEAKER_2: There should be a louder outcry across the board.
- 17:31SPEAKER_2: And I'm happy for those who have already signed off on this
- 17:35SPEAKER_2: that understand we cannot continue to be silent about this issue.
- 17:39SPEAKER_2: Because ultimately,
- 17:40SPEAKER_2: some people are going to ask,
- 17:41SPEAKER_2: where in the heck was the faith-based community in this?
- 17:44SPEAKER_2: You know, because this impacts, you know, people's view of the church.
- 17:52SPEAKER_2: And we can be silent on this.
- 17:53SPEAKER_2: I mean, what are we going to speak up on?
- 17:56SPEAKER_2: And so we have people that are clearly being mistreated that are respected by God
- 18:02SPEAKER_2: and loved by God.
- 18:04SPEAKER_2: I mean, there is nothing in Scripture that says, I only love white Christians.
- 18:09SPEAKER_2: That's not in the book.
- 18:11SPEAKER_2: And so we have to understand that God sees all people.
- 18:16SPEAKER_2: And so it's not our job to be like, okay,
- 18:18SPEAKER_2: we're going to be dismissive of this group of people,
- 18:21SPEAKER_2: but we'll be accepting of this one only group of people.
- 18:25SPEAKER_2: That has to stop.
- 18:27SPEAKER_2: And the body of Christ, a faith-based community has to rise up and say, hey, we ain't with that.
- 18:32SPEAKER_2: Whether it's Jews,
- 18:33SPEAKER_2: whether it's Muslims,
- 18:35SPEAKER_2: whether it's Buddhists,
- 18:36SPEAKER_2: whether it's Christians, we ought to share that in common and say, this is wrong.
- 18:41SPEAKER_1: Well, let's highlight that right there, because we got a minute before our break.
- 18:46SPEAKER_1: But this statement that you made, this press release, it was just in that.
- 18:52SPEAKER_1: It was with GIMA (the Greater Indianapolis Multifaith Alliance).
- 18:53SPEAKER_1: So you have other faith organizations.
- 18:56SPEAKER_1: I mean, what you just kind of outlined is here's some groups coming together saying,
- 19:01SPEAKER_1: no, this isn't just attacking, you know, particular color, particular faith.
- 19:06SPEAKER_1: All of us need to pay attention and need to stand together against this.
- 19:10SPEAKER_2: Yes.
- 19:11SPEAKER_2: And I was very intentional about that.
- 19:13SPEAKER_2: You know,
- 19:14SPEAKER_2: I've reached out to some white pastors today as well that will be signing off
- 19:20SPEAKER_2: on this because we collectively should be saying this is not right.
- 19:29SPEAKER_1: You can't just pretend that it's not going to come to your neighborhood.
- 19:33SPEAKER_1: You can't do that.
- 19:34SPEAKER_1: Well, we do have to go to our first break of the hour.
- 19:37SPEAKER_1: We've got callers on the line.
- 19:39SPEAKER_1: We're going to bring them in once we come back from a break.
- 19:43SPEAKER_1: But let's go ahead and go to our commercial break.
- 19:45SPEAKER_1: And when we come back, we'll have Imhotep.
- 19:47SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of the conversation.
- 19:49SPEAKER_1: Welcome back to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show.
- 19:51SPEAKER_1: I'm Reverend Tony Alexander and I'm
- 20:15SPEAKER_1: We're joined by our president, Pastor David W.
- 20:17SPEAKER_1: Greene Sr., and we have you as well.
- 20:20SPEAKER_1: We're talking about some of the recent,
- 20:24SPEAKER_1: I'll say,
- 20:25SPEAKER_1: ICE activity here in Indianapolis and Marion County,
- 20:29SPEAKER_1: and why our leaders are here,
- 20:32SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 20:32SPEAKER_1: right here in central Indiana are not really taking a lead in speaking up
- 20:36SPEAKER_1: and speaking out against it.
- 20:38SPEAKER_1: If you would like to be part of the conversation,
- 20:41SPEAKER_1: you can call into the radio station, that phone number, 317-480-1310.
- 20:47SPEAKER_1: Or you can also comment on the Concerned Clergy of Indianapolis Facebook page as well.
- 20:53SPEAKER_1: Let's go ahead and bring in our caller.
- 20:55SPEAKER_1: We have Imhotep.
- 20:58SPEAKER_3: Okay.
- 20:59SPEAKER_3: Good evening, gentlemen.
- 21:00SPEAKER_3: Good evening.
- 21:01SPEAKER_3: Thank you for taking my call.
- 21:02SPEAKER_3: We really appreciate you all highlighting and putting a shining light on injustice
- 21:08SPEAKER_3: and intolerance in the society.
- 21:13SPEAKER_3: And I'll be brief.
- 21:15SPEAKER_3: We're in a dystopian nightmare here.
- 21:20SPEAKER_3: And the point is that we have leadership on the federal level and at
- 21:25SPEAKER_3: the governor's office and at the attorney general's office here at the state level.
- 21:28SPEAKER_3: It just wants you to not look at anything.
- 21:32SPEAKER_3: Don't pay attention to it.
- 21:34SPEAKER_3: It's fascism.
- 21:36SPEAKER_3: Leadership here, I've been disappointed.
- 21:38SPEAKER_3: Disappointed with Leroy Robinson,
- 21:40SPEAKER_3: Maggie Lewis,
- 21:41SPEAKER_3: my counselor,
- 21:42SPEAKER_3: Carlos Perkins,
- 21:44SPEAKER_3: many others down there, Hogsett himself, but not verbally coming out.
- 21:49SPEAKER_3: Chicago spoke out against it.
- 21:51SPEAKER_3: Philadelphia, of course, Minnesota, L.A., Karen Bass.
- 21:56SPEAKER_3: Many of them, but Houston, this, this, this, many of them, but Memphis.
- 22:00SPEAKER_3: Look what they did.
- 22:00SPEAKER_3: They've occupied Memphis for the last, what, eight months?
- 22:03SPEAKER_3: Nine months?
- 22:04SPEAKER_3: People down there, I mean, I follow Memphis all the time.
- 22:06SPEAKER_3: I got a lot of family down there.
- 22:07SPEAKER_3: So you probably remember, you know, Bishop Mason Temple down there.
- 22:13SPEAKER_3: I used to go down there when I was a young lad.
- 22:15SPEAKER_3: So they've done -- remember they just, ICE agent, National Guard just killed a Black man.
- 22:21SPEAKER_3: First time, I think they said, either in 100 years or the history of the country.
- 22:25SPEAKER_3: Where a National Guard person that killed a citizen, took the brother and shot him.
- 22:29SPEAKER_3: So this leadership here is really, really terrible.
- 22:32SPEAKER_3: But I got a couple of things for you all.
- 22:33SPEAKER_3: One, with the ICE, we know that November is very important.
- 22:39SPEAKER_3: But then if we get the House and we get the Senate,
- 22:41SPEAKER_3: you can bring charges on all these people, definitely get them.
- 22:43SPEAKER_3: We can get rid of the Attorney General or bring him up on charges
- 22:47SPEAKER_3: if he doesn't do his job, the election, from the federal level.
- 22:51SPEAKER_3: And then we know, of course, the next president's election definitely is important.
- 22:54SPEAKER_3: That will remedy the situation.
- 22:56SPEAKER_3: We've got to have 18 and 30.
- 22:58SPEAKER_3: It's got to vote.
- 22:59SPEAKER_3: Number two, Nathaniel Lee made a statement Saturday.
- 23:02SPEAKER_3: Indianapolis -- IMPD has the most police shootings of Black people in the country.
- 23:10SPEAKER_3: This is from Nathaniel Lee.
- 23:11SPEAKER_3: He said the most in the country.
- 23:12SPEAKER_3: And he was disappointed at the lack of highlight and spotlight on this and the lack
- 23:21SPEAKER_3: of accountability from the leadership position.
- 23:24SPEAKER_3: I know we just got a new chief, but we still have Leroy's over public safety committee.
- 23:31SPEAKER_3: Leroy's over there.
- 23:32SPEAKER_3: Okay, and so this is an issue here.
- 23:35SPEAKER_3: And then when I look at the last thing,
- 23:36SPEAKER_3: when I look at the video a week,
- 23:38SPEAKER_3: week and a half ago of IMPD stopping and all those students coming
- 23:43SPEAKER_3: from Crispus Attucks,
- 23:44SPEAKER_3: making them sit on the curb on 10th Street with the traffic there.
- 23:49SPEAKER_3: The coach comes out just to find out what's going on.
- 23:52SPEAKER_3: Then they handcuff the coach.
- 23:53SPEAKER_3: It's clearly a disconnect with community policing again.
- 23:56SPEAKER_3: Because I understand we've had a ton of people walking the streets hit and killed.
- 24:01SPEAKER_3: That's true.
- 24:01SPEAKER_3: I had a person on the e-bike hit and killed.
- 24:03SPEAKER_3: I got it.
- 24:03SPEAKER_3: That is a dangerous intersection.
- 24:05SPEAKER_3: I don't like coming out of there when I go to City Barbecue
- 24:07SPEAKER_3: because people are coming around that corner real fast.
- 24:09SPEAKER_3: But when you go talk to the people at the school first,
- 24:12SPEAKER_3: when you have a meeting and say, hey, this is dangerous here.
- 24:16SPEAKER_3: We want you all to really be careful.
- 24:17SPEAKER_3: If you can go to the corner and cross at the corner, we really appreciate it.
- 24:22SPEAKER_3: We don't want anybody else hurt.
- 24:23SPEAKER_3: Instead, they use authoritarian tactics again.
- 24:26SPEAKER_3: So that's why my comment,
- 24:27SPEAKER_3: I highlighted IMPD too,
- 24:29SPEAKER_3: because this climate of Trump,
- 24:33SPEAKER_3: they're the highest number of shootings of Black people in the country
- 24:39SPEAKER_3: over New York, over Chicago, over even dirty L.A.
- 24:44SPEAKER_3: So I just want to throw that out there to you.
- 24:45SPEAKER_3: Thanks for this, Reverend Greene.
- 24:47SPEAKER_3: Great statement.
- 24:48SPEAKER_3: I'll try to write and see if I can write.
- 24:50SPEAKER_3: I'll write Carlos Perkins in the mail.
- 24:52SPEAKER_3: I'll write them and keep blasting them and we'll keep doing what we can do with.
- 24:56SPEAKER_3: It's an issue.
- 24:56SPEAKER_3: It's just a big issue.
- 24:57SPEAKER_3: All right.
- 24:58SPEAKER_1: Thank you so much for your phone call.
- 24:59SPEAKER_1: And that certainly,
- 24:59SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 25:00SPEAKER_1: could be a deeper conversation than some other point when it comes to,
- 25:04SPEAKER_1: you know, that piece right here locally.
- 25:06SPEAKER_1: Let's go ahead and bring in Mayhem.
- 25:10SPEAKER_4: Hey, how's it going?
- 25:11SPEAKER_1: Well, good evening, Mayhem.
- 25:12SPEAKER_1: Are you?
- 25:14SPEAKER_4: Pretty good.
- 25:14SPEAKER_4: Good conversation.
- 25:15SPEAKER_4: Hey, um, our police department been corrupt before Trump.
- 25:21SPEAKER_4: They just more bold and more slick about it.
- 25:24SPEAKER_4: They've been corrupt.
- 25:25SPEAKER_4: Um, you know,
- 25:27SPEAKER_4: there's laws on the books in Indiana that, um,
- 25:31SPEAKER_4: regular people can protect themselves from people with masks
- 25:35SPEAKER_4: and saying they are some kind of authority.
- 25:39SPEAKER_4: Some people don't recognize ICE in, um,
- 25:42SPEAKER_4: this leadership here that leads from behind better get ahead of this
- 25:47SPEAKER_4: because it's going to get real ugly.
- 25:48SPEAKER_4: Because if you mess with certain people and you're talking about you,
- 25:53SPEAKER_4: the police,
- 25:54SPEAKER_4: with a paper so-called,
- 25:57SPEAKER_4: you got to get your authority to come to my house late at night and kicking doors
- 26:04SPEAKER_4: in.
- 26:05SPEAKER_4: You know, we got laws in the book.
- 26:06SPEAKER_4: We can protect ourselves here by the law.
- 26:09SPEAKER_4: So these people with masks on,
- 26:12SPEAKER_4: and how do we really know some of these guys that they won't identify and got,
- 26:19SPEAKER_4: don't sound like they from here with the mask on.
- 26:22SPEAKER_4: How do we know?
- 26:23SPEAKER_4: Are they U.S. citizens themselves?
- 26:26SPEAKER_4: Why can't we know who these people are?
- 26:28SPEAKER_4: But like I said, Indiana got laws on the books that you come up in my house.
- 26:36SPEAKER_4: And using all this, you know, IMPD or whatever, we can protect ourselves here.
- 26:41SPEAKER_4: So they better get ahead of themselves because certain neighborhoods are not going
- 26:46SPEAKER_4: to put up with it.
- 26:47SPEAKER_4: And they've been and they are snatching Black people.
- 26:50SPEAKER_4: My mechanic, I was wondering where he was at.
- 26:53SPEAKER_4: He told me he was down there at the Kokomo thing.
- 26:57SPEAKER_4: They snatched him.
- 26:58SPEAKER_4: He was down there for like four or five months.
- 26:59SPEAKER_4: And he's Black.
- 27:01SPEAKER_4: Hey, have a good one.
- 27:02SPEAKER_1: All right, thank you.
- 27:03SPEAKER_1: One thing I do want Mayhem to know,
- 27:06SPEAKER_1: yeah, there are laws on the book regarding masks, but guess what?
- 27:12SPEAKER_1: ICE is exempt from those laws.
- 27:14SPEAKER_1: That's something that just got passed,
- 27:16SPEAKER_1: I believe it was last year,
- 27:19SPEAKER_1: where ICE has been exempt from those laws regarding masks.
- 27:25SPEAKER_1: Mr. President?
- 27:27SPEAKER_2: Well, yeah, I mean...
- 27:28SPEAKER_2: Now, I concur with Mayhem, but it puts a lot of people at risk, right?
- 27:33SPEAKER_2: Because you can't have,
- 27:35SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 27:35SPEAKER_2: can a criminal now get a mask and go knocking in somebody's house
- 27:39SPEAKER_2: and having them thinking, well, I'm coming in as a criminal.
- 27:43SPEAKER_2: A homeowner is going to have to be to make a decision, you know.
- 27:48SPEAKER_2: And what is a fact is that in order to really appropriately,
- 27:52SPEAKER_2: legally come in your house,
- 27:53SPEAKER_2: they need a judicial warrant, not an ICE warrant, a judicial warrant.
- 27:58SPEAKER_2: If they don't have the judicial warrant, they shouldn't be kicking in somebody's house.
- 28:02SPEAKER_2: That means if somebody hadn't committed a crime,
- 28:04SPEAKER_2: the judge hasn't signed off on this,
- 28:06SPEAKER_2: not the ICE judge, they're not supposed to be doing that.
- 28:11SPEAKER_2: They do that because they can,
- 28:12SPEAKER_2: quote-unquote,
- 28:13SPEAKER_2: as you said,
- 28:14SPEAKER_2: get away with it and be like, well, we're just going to get away with this.
- 28:19SPEAKER_2: But I guarantee you, unfortunately, people will push back and they have to make decisions.
- 28:25SPEAKER_2: To protect themselves,
- 28:26SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 28:27SPEAKER_2: because I guarantee you somebody will be trying to impersonate
- 28:30SPEAKER_2: an ICE agent who's not one.
- 28:33SPEAKER_2: So how do you differentiate between somebody who's impersonating themselves as
- 28:36SPEAKER_2: an ICE agent and just breaking into somebody's house versus an ICE agent
- 28:41SPEAKER_2: when they have,
- 28:42SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 28:42SPEAKER_2: when you're not showing your face,
- 28:44SPEAKER_2: you're not showing, you know, credentials, et cetera.
- 28:48SPEAKER_2: You're just doing it because you can.
- 28:51SPEAKER_2: I mean, it's -- I don't even, you know.
- 28:54SPEAKER_2: It's not even wise to be doing it that way,
- 28:57SPEAKER_2: but we need leadership to step up, to say, okay, now, hey,
- 29:02SPEAKER_2: we're joining with other people,
- 29:03SPEAKER_2: and they got cover now,
- 29:05SPEAKER_2: because the community is saying,
- 29:07SPEAKER_2: hey, we don't even want this right here, Democrats and Republicans.
- 29:12SPEAKER_2: But we need leadership to say,
- 29:13SPEAKER_2: this is where we are,
- 29:14SPEAKER_2: this is unacceptable,
- 29:16SPEAKER_2: and call it out, and nothing else be letting people know what they know.
- 29:21SPEAKER_1: Well, let's be clear.
- 29:23SPEAKER_1: Here we are.
- 29:27SPEAKER_1: As you know,
- 29:28SPEAKER_1: here in,
- 29:29SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 29:30SPEAKER_1: beginning of September, what we do know is that the rules for ICE have changed.
- 29:37SPEAKER_1: Everything is different now.
- 29:39SPEAKER_1: They're able to roll up in unmarked cars.
- 29:42SPEAKER_1: They don't have to have flashing lights.
- 29:45SPEAKER_1: They don't necessarily have to have body-worn cameras.
- 29:50SPEAKER_1: They can wear a mask and not identify themselves.
- 29:55SPEAKER_1: Think about what happened in Minnesota, folks.
- 29:59SPEAKER_1: When everything happened in Minnesota and they had the incidents and
- 30:04SPEAKER_1: the young lady was shot in the face,
- 30:09SPEAKER_1: they still don't even have the vehicle she was in.
- 30:12SPEAKER_1: They are taking all of the evidence straight up off the streets,
- 30:18SPEAKER_1: removing all of the vehicles,
- 30:21SPEAKER_1: all of the evidence,
- 30:23SPEAKER_1: even the ICE agents that were involved, shipping them off somewhere.
- 30:27SPEAKER_1: You never know their names.
- 30:30SPEAKER_1: We really need, you know, all of that needs to be addressed.
- 30:34SPEAKER_1: A lot of that can't be addressed at the local level.
- 30:37SPEAKER_1: You know, that's for sure.
- 30:39SPEAKER_1: A lot of that needs,
- 30:42SPEAKER_1: I'll say,
- 30:44SPEAKER_1: better leadership in higher places because that's where those issues,
- 30:49SPEAKER_1: it needs Congress to come and say,
- 30:53SPEAKER_1: hey, this isn't affecting just one group of people because right now it's not.
- 31:01SPEAKER_1: It's affecting a whole bunch of people.
- 31:04SPEAKER_1: And that's what we have to look at,
- 31:06SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 31:06SPEAKER_1: when we're kind of evaluating this is that,
- 31:10SPEAKER_1: all right, what can we do knowing here's where the rules are now?
- 31:17SPEAKER_1: The very minimum is we can have our local officials speak up,
- 31:22SPEAKER_1: speak out,
- 31:23SPEAKER_1: let us know what are your rights,
- 31:25SPEAKER_1: you know, citizens, you know, here's what we're going to do to help protect you.
- 31:30SPEAKER_1: At least we're going to stand with you,
- 31:32SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 31:32SPEAKER_1: because one thing we did see in Minnesota, no,
- 31:35SPEAKER_1: they were pounding the table saying,
- 31:36SPEAKER_1: no, we're going to stand with our people, our community, our constituents.
- 31:41SPEAKER_1: We don't have that here right now, folks.
- 31:45SPEAKER_2: That's what we need, Reverend Alexander.
- 31:47SPEAKER_2: I think that one of the things that I think may have, somebody said, voting matters.
- 31:54SPEAKER_2: This is the thing everybody can go do.
- 31:57SPEAKER_2: We better go vote.
- 31:58SPEAKER_2: We need to send a clear message in just a couple of months, November.
- 32:04SPEAKER_2: And keep in mind, I mean,
- 32:05SPEAKER_2: all this ICE stuff is just some of which will be just to deter people from voting.
- 32:11SPEAKER_2: They'll be in cities like Indianapolis just to deter voting.
- 32:16SPEAKER_2: And we have to be like,
- 32:17SPEAKER_2: we're going to go vote even if,
- 32:18SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 32:20SPEAKER_2: we're going to see this police or law enforcement vehicle or the other one.
- 32:26SPEAKER_2: They will be present.
- 32:27SPEAKER_2: I would be surprised if they're not present in locations that are heavily Democrat.
- 32:33SPEAKER_2: They won't be doing that in Republican dominated rural areas,
- 32:36SPEAKER_2: not necessarily, but they will want to deter people from actually going to vote.
- 32:43SPEAKER_1: And we know that's going to happen.
- 32:45SPEAKER_1: Let's go ahead and go to our last break of the hour.
- 32:49SPEAKER_1: When we come back,
- 32:50SPEAKER_1: we certainly want to remember those that are still trying to recover from
- 32:54SPEAKER_1: the disasters up in Northwest Indiana.
- 32:57SPEAKER_1: So we're going to try to help, you know, at least help guide some folks.
- 33:01SPEAKER_1: You know, here's where you can go for resources.
- 33:05SPEAKER_1: And hopefully, you know, everyone's on the road to recovery.
- 33:09SPEAKER_1: But we'll discuss that when we come back from our commercial break.
- 33:12SPEAKER_1: If you'd like to be part of the conversation, you can call in 317-480-1310.
- 33:19SPEAKER_1: We'll see you on the other side of our commercial break.
- 33:21SPEAKER_1: You're listening to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show
- 33:23SPEAKER_1: on Praise AM 1310 95.1 FM, Indy's Inspiration Station.
- 33:33SPEAKER_1: Welcome back to the Concerned Clergy Radio Show.
- 33:37SPEAKER_1: We can transition a little bit on our program on tonight
- 33:40SPEAKER_1: because we know we still have a lot of folks that are still trying to recover up
- 33:46SPEAKER_1: in northwest Indiana.
- 33:48SPEAKER_1: So what we're going to try to do is we're going to try to provide some color.
- 33:53SPEAKER_1: As well as try to provide a little bit of direction here at the end of our program
- 33:58SPEAKER_1: to make sure that our folks know where they can get some assistance.
- 34:04SPEAKER_1: A couple of places where you can go, the FEMA site, also Indiana 211.
- 34:11SPEAKER_1: But before I really talk about the resources, Mr.
- 34:14SPEAKER_1: President,
- 34:15SPEAKER_1: here's what I want to highlight,
- 34:17SPEAKER_1: because on the Indiana 211 site,
- 34:20SPEAKER_1: they do have a dashboard in which,
- 34:23SPEAKER_1: and I'll go ahead and bring that up,
- 34:24SPEAKER_1: they do have a dashboard in which you can go in and they tell you,
- 34:30SPEAKER_1: they ask you to submit a disaster report.
- 34:33SPEAKER_1: That means, you know, what kind of damage do you have?
- 34:37SPEAKER_1: They also give you resources, you know, whether it be food, pets, shelters, clothing, furniture.
- 34:46SPEAKER_1: If you've got trees, you know, that being you need those removed, even give, you know,
- 34:55SPEAKER_1: the links to the FEMA sites, and we're going to talk about that as well.
- 34:59SPEAKER_1: But here's what I want us,
- 35:02SPEAKER_1: as we have this conversation,
- 35:04SPEAKER_1: because we know that we had some damage in Hamilton County,
- 35:11SPEAKER_1: Delaware County, also up in Lake Porter County.
- 35:16SPEAKER_1: Here's what we have and here's what the statistics show for those
- 35:21SPEAKER_1: that have already been on the Indiana 211 site saying that they are affected by
- 35:27SPEAKER_1: the storms.
- 35:28SPEAKER_1: In Lake County, Mr.
- 35:30SPEAKER_1: President, 41,608 people have identified as having issues due to the storms.
- 35:43SPEAKER_1: Okay.
- 35:44SPEAKER_1: The next number.
- 35:47SPEAKER_1: It's Porter County at just over 5,600 people.
- 35:51SPEAKER_1: That's very next one.
- 35:53SPEAKER_1: When you get to Madison County, 3,138.
- 35:56SPEAKER_1: Marion County, 1,909.
- 35:56SPEAKER_1: Hamilton County, 1,791.
- 35:57SPEAKER_1: Delaware County, 1,534.
- 35:59SPEAKER_1: The numbers just keep getting lower.
- 36:00SPEAKER_1: I want to highlight that.
- 36:11SPEAKER_1: Because it's very evident just by the numbers that the state is displaying here
- 36:16SPEAKER_1: in Indiana 211 that Gary by far has been affected the most,
- 36:22SPEAKER_1: hit the worst, and needs the most resources.
- 36:27SPEAKER_1: However,
- 36:27SPEAKER_1: they're the ones that got the worst response as well when it came
- 36:31SPEAKER_1: to getting them back to the road to recovery.
- 36:34SPEAKER_1: And we have to ask ourselves, why?
- 36:37SPEAKER_1: Why is that?
- 36:38SPEAKER_1: And then we also have to ask ourselves, well,
- 36:41SPEAKER_1: are they actually on the road to getting some real recovery if they apply
- 36:48SPEAKER_1: for these funds?
- 36:49SPEAKER_1: I'm kind of concerned about that, Mr. President.
- 36:53SPEAKER_2: I'm definitely concerned about that data.
- 36:56SPEAKER_2: That's staggering,
- 36:59SPEAKER_2: Reverend Alexander,
- 37:00SPEAKER_2: that Lake County said 41,000 people has been impacted, which is obviously...
- 37:08SPEAKER_2: Twice as much as everybody else in the state that's being impacted.
- 37:12SPEAKER_1: Combined.
- 37:13SPEAKER_2: Combined.
- 37:16SPEAKER_2: And so to me,
- 37:17SPEAKER_2: that would say,
- 37:19SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 37:21SPEAKER_2: the majority of money should be flowing into Lake County in order to address
- 37:26SPEAKER_2: the crisis that has befallen them.
- 37:29SPEAKER_2: That's the way that should look.
- 37:32SPEAKER_2: But I've, you know, I venture to say, if we follow the dollars, it ain't going to say that.
- 37:39SPEAKER_2: That's my point.
- 37:40SPEAKER_2: Some of these other counties that are going to be leading the way
- 37:43SPEAKER_2: in
- 37:45SPEAKER_2: getting resources to get back on their feet while Northwest Indiana continues
- 37:53SPEAKER_2: to struggle and to limp along.
- 37:55SPEAKER_2: I mean, as dollars are getting released,
- 37:59SPEAKER_2: being that data you just shared,
- 38:02SPEAKER_2: you like to think, okay,
- 38:03SPEAKER_2: now we got to make sure we get not equal,
- 38:09SPEAKER_2: but a fair amount of money to Lake County because Lake County should get
- 38:14SPEAKER_2: a whole lot more than Hamilton County and Marion County.
- 38:17SPEAKER_2: And I get it.
- 38:18SPEAKER_2: And I live in Marion County.
- 38:20SPEAKER_2: But the numbers say, wait a minute, that doesn't jail.
- 38:25SPEAKER_2: And so we'll have to continue.
- 38:28SPEAKER_2: One, thank you for pointing this out.
- 38:30SPEAKER_2: We'll have to continue to monitor this and raise the critical questions
- 38:34SPEAKER_2: of our elected leaders related to this.
- 38:38SPEAKER_2: Because,
- 38:39SPEAKER_2: you know,
- 38:40SPEAKER_2: those who sit on ways and means and other places,
- 38:43SPEAKER_2: these finance committees, these are questions that need to be asked.
- 38:49SPEAKER_1: So when you're looking at between Lake and Porter County,
- 38:52SPEAKER_1: they're getting, you know, that they're the ones that have the most folks.
- 38:57SPEAKER_1: And you're looking at,
- 38:59SPEAKER_1: once again,
- 39:01SPEAKER_1: pretty much about 47,000 people out of,
- 39:04SPEAKER_1: I think, 67,000 was the number that they had in total.
- 39:09SPEAKER_1: So 62,000.
- 39:12SPEAKER_1: So when you look at that, you got 47,000.
- 39:14SPEAKER_1: The rest,
- 39:14SPEAKER_1: when you're looking at the other,
- 39:16SPEAKER_1: what, 13,000, 14,000 people, that's a big difference.
- 39:19SPEAKER_1: And we know, as a matter of fact,
- 39:27SPEAKER_1: people here in Marion County,
- 39:28SPEAKER_1: Broad Ripple, Hamilton County, a lot of those streets have already been cleared.
- 39:34SPEAKER_1: You know, they don't have any issues.
- 39:36SPEAKER_1: And we still have some folks that are up in Gary Lake County that are still trying
- 39:43SPEAKER_1: to get their lights turned.
- 39:45SPEAKER_1: We know that as a matter of fact.
- 39:48SPEAKER_1: Now, part of,
- 39:49SPEAKER_1: we want to make sure that you know,
- 39:51SPEAKER_1: is that you can, let me back up with Indiana 211.
- 39:55SPEAKER_1: So if you call them, because you can just simply call 211, we know them as a service.
- 40:01SPEAKER_1: But if you happen to call them,
- 40:03SPEAKER_1: they are saying that they're going to prioritize those that are dealing
- 40:08SPEAKER_1: with disaster relief.
- 40:10SPEAKER_1: But what they also said is all the other callers got to wait.
- 40:15SPEAKER_1: Which that's not good either, Mr. President.
- 40:17SPEAKER_1: We still need to be able to help the folks that are having everyday issues,
- 40:21SPEAKER_1: everyday problems, everyday needs.
- 40:24SPEAKER_1: And still be able to tend to those that, okay, have this disaster that just happened.
- 40:32SPEAKER_1: Because our governor stood up and said, hey, we're going to add people.
- 40:36SPEAKER_1: We're going to do all the great stuff that he announced he's going to do.
- 40:39SPEAKER_1: That other people shouldn't suffer because of that.
- 40:42SPEAKER_1: So I will tell you that.
- 40:44SPEAKER_1: But once again, you can also go on the FEMA site.
- 40:47SPEAKER_1: When you go to FEMA, they'll ask you, you know, if it fell out of form.
- 40:53SPEAKER_1: You have until.
- 40:57SPEAKER_1: I believe it's October 25th and I'm going to double check this date.
- 41:01SPEAKER_1: I believe it's October 25th to ask for funding.
- 41:06SPEAKER_1: And I want to make sure I get that right before we hang up on tonight,
- 41:09SPEAKER_1: because that's important as well, that deadline.
- 41:12SPEAKER_1: So you do have,
- 41:13SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 41:14SPEAKER_1: a few weeks, but,
- 41:15SPEAKER_1: you know,
- 41:15SPEAKER_1: as a lot of times first come isn't one that gets, you know, taken care of first.
- 41:21SPEAKER_1: So we want to try to help you help guide you through that.
- 41:24SPEAKER_1: But you can go to Indiana 211.
- 41:27SPEAKER_1: They've got the FEMA links.
- 41:29SPEAKER_1: You can go to FEMA as well.
- 41:31SPEAKER_1: They've got the links.
- 41:32SPEAKER_1: They'll ask you several questions.
- 41:35SPEAKER_1: First thing they'll ask is what your zip code is.
- 41:39SPEAKER_1: And I'll even add this as well.
- 41:41SPEAKER_1: Even there's credit card companies.
- 41:44SPEAKER_1: Feel free to call your credit card company if you know you've been affected.
- 41:48SPEAKER_1: Credit card companies now are actually offering some -- I'll use
- 41:53SPEAKER_1: the term some grace periods,
- 41:56SPEAKER_1: but they are making concessions for those that may have been affected.
- 42:00SPEAKER_1: Not only that, I got a phone call from mortgage company.
- 42:04SPEAKER_1: You know, they're even calling their customers saying, have you been affected?
- 42:09SPEAKER_1: So there's other ways that you can get assistance.
- 42:14SPEAKER_1: I just want to say this.
- 42:15SPEAKER_1: If you got credit cards, call them.
- 42:17SPEAKER_1: If you got a mortgage, call them.
- 42:19SPEAKER_1: If you're affected, call FEMA.
- 42:21SPEAKER_1: You need information, you know, look at the FEMA site, Indiana 211.
- 42:25SPEAKER_1: Let's go ahead and bring in our caller.
- 42:26SPEAKER_1: We have, I believe it's Councilor Oliver.
- 42:29SPEAKER_1: Is that correct?
- 42:36SPEAKER_1: Oliver?
- 42:39SPEAKER_5: You hear me okay?
- 42:40SPEAKER_1: We got you now.
- 42:41SPEAKER_1: Good evening.
- 42:43SPEAKER_5: Okay.
- 42:43SPEAKER_5: Yes, I'm so happy to hear it.
- 42:45SPEAKER_5: And I know you would be, you and Pastor Greene and many others.
- 42:49SPEAKER_5: For responded to lack of response initially from the 46th Meridian.
- 42:55SPEAKER_5: And I say that with tongue-in-cheek.
- 42:57SPEAKER_5: But I was involved in '05 to New Orleans.
- 43:04SPEAKER_5: The big flood, I mean, the tornado, all that came inland at that time.
- 43:07SPEAKER_5: And Pastor Covington and the church over there stored our everything.
- 43:12SPEAKER_5: We had everything brought over there from Kroger and everything.
- 43:15SPEAKER_5: It took two semis down there.
- 43:18SPEAKER_5: And the call went out all across the country.
- 43:21SPEAKER_5: We got down there, a guy from Seattle, Dallas, New York.
- 43:26SPEAKER_5: It had regular stuff down to New Orleans.
- 43:28SPEAKER_5: And the whole area,
- 43:30SPEAKER_5: the whole area,
- 43:31SPEAKER_5: not just New Orleans, the whole area was out of gasoline, no food on the shelves.
- 43:37SPEAKER_5: You know, because you couldn't take food down there because the roads were wiped out.
- 43:40SPEAKER_5: You know, the bridges would collapse, all that.
- 43:42SPEAKER_5: You know what I mean?
- 43:44SPEAKER_5: After we made that delivery, really,
- 43:47SPEAKER_5: they wouldn't let us go past Meridian,
- 43:49SPEAKER_5: Mississippi at that time,
- 43:50SPEAKER_5: because all the filling stations are out of gas, you're just going to make a big mess.
- 43:55SPEAKER_5: So it called the NAACP, and we unloaded at their discretion in Meridian, Mississippi.
- 44:01SPEAKER_5: Two weeks after that,
- 44:02SPEAKER_5: a call went out for workers and went back down there and helped restore a couple
- 44:07SPEAKER_5: of houses, done that for a couple of days.
- 44:09SPEAKER_5: At least all over, people came back and done what I just described.
- 44:13SPEAKER_5: Now, when the call,
- 44:15SPEAKER_5: when this happened in central Indiana,
- 44:19SPEAKER_5: the call went out, you know, man, this is terrible.
- 44:21SPEAKER_5: You know, this is terrible.
- 44:23SPEAKER_5: Is it all we got to do up there?
- 44:25SPEAKER_5: They tried to get me.
- 44:26SPEAKER_5: Yeah, I go up there and help out.
- 44:28SPEAKER_5: You know, that's all I heard.
- 44:30SPEAKER_5: And then a week later,
- 44:32SPEAKER_5: we hear that Northwest Indiana,
- 44:34SPEAKER_5: Northwest Indiana, nobody's saying anything about Northwest Indiana.
- 44:37SPEAKER_5: Exactly.
- 44:38SPEAKER_5: The government ain't saying anything about Northwest Indiana.
- 44:41SPEAKER_5: You know, like, wait a minute, what's going on here?
- 44:43SPEAKER_5: Well, then it came out more and more.
- 44:46SPEAKER_5: They were, the local news here, reporting local news issues, things like that.
- 44:53SPEAKER_5: All we heard about was Carmel, and thank goodness.
- 44:56SPEAKER_5: I mean, when you get wiped out, you get wiped out.
- 44:59SPEAKER_5: I'm not mad because that counted three times more than the average income,
- 45:05SPEAKER_5: et cetera, et cetera, Gary.
- 45:06SPEAKER_5: So that's okay.
- 45:07SPEAKER_5: But the response to Carmel was great,
- 45:10SPEAKER_5: and it should have been to Hamilton County, Muncie, the whole area.
- 45:15SPEAKER_5: But then we heard about Gary.
- 45:17SPEAKER_5: No.
- 45:18SPEAKER_5: Northwest Indiana.
- 45:19SPEAKER_5: Like they couldn't say Gary.
- 45:21SPEAKER_5: They said Northwest Indiana.
- 45:23SPEAKER_5: And then the next day they said Gary,
- 45:26SPEAKER_5: which is about a week after everything else was brought up.
- 45:31SPEAKER_5: So that's where I'm at right now.
- 45:33SPEAKER_5: Many of us are sitting like we're doing,
- 45:36SPEAKER_5: but I'm in the process of putting together what we did in '05.
- 45:40SPEAKER_5: And that's a place to have all those that want to donate.
- 45:45SPEAKER_5: And we got two trucks already.
- 45:47SPEAKER_5: And we want to,
- 45:48SPEAKER_5: you know,
- 45:49SPEAKER_5: Reverend Covington can see him tomorrow because he stored things at his church,
- 45:54SPEAKER_5: a big room over there.
- 45:56SPEAKER_5: And that's where we loaded up as he got full and took it down south down there.
- 46:00SPEAKER_5: Okay.
- 46:01SPEAKER_5: Let me ask you to do this.
- 46:04SPEAKER_1: Give us the information because we only have a couple of minutes
- 46:06SPEAKER_1: and I've got some more information I want to make sure that I share.
- 46:09SPEAKER_1: But make sure we get the information on what you're doing.
- 46:12SPEAKER_1: We'll share that.
- 46:13SPEAKER_1: We'll try to make sure folks are aware of it.
- 46:15SPEAKER_1: Okay.
- 46:16SPEAKER_1: And we appreciate, you know, all of your efforts.
- 46:18SPEAKER_1: I've seen you all over the place.
- 46:19SPEAKER_1: So I know you're definitely.
- 46:22SPEAKER_5: There are many in our city that want to respond to Gary.
- 46:26SPEAKER_5: Exactly.
- 46:27SPEAKER_5: I'm not waiting on him.
- 46:29SPEAKER_1: Exactly.
- 46:30SPEAKER_5: Kroger, thank you for them.
- 46:32SPEAKER_5: You know what --
- 46:32SPEAKER_1: I mean?
- 46:33SPEAKER_1: Right.
- 46:33SPEAKER_1: Okay.
- 46:33SPEAKER_1: Well, I got to go, Councilor Oliver.
- 46:35SPEAKER_5: Councilor Oliver.
- 46:36SPEAKER_1: I got to go because I got some more information I want to share.
- 46:39SPEAKER_1: All right.
- 46:40SPEAKER_1: Because here's what I want to make sure
- 46:41SPEAKER_1: that people know how I can get assistance now because we do have deadlines.
- 46:47SPEAKER_1: Okay.
- 46:48SPEAKER_1: You can go to disasterassistance.gov.
- 46:53SPEAKER_1: And it's there, you know, you can actually apply for individual assistance.
- 46:58SPEAKER_1: So that right there will get you to where you can ask for individual assistance.
- 47:03SPEAKER_1: It says there that FEMA will help you with costs that are not covered by insurance.
- 47:10SPEAKER_1: So a couple of things I want to encourage people to do,
- 47:12SPEAKER_1: and I'm going to go ahead and throw this up real quick.
- 47:15SPEAKER_1: A couple of things you want to do is go to that site.
- 47:18SPEAKER_1: Once again, disasterassistance.gov.
- 47:23SPEAKER_1: You can get on there and it will ask you a few questions.
- 47:29SPEAKER_1: It says there the FEMA can help you with child support care, medical, lodging, moving, funeral.
- 47:40SPEAKER_1: And some of this
- 47:47SPEAKER_1: stuff is like, well, you know, I can't read all, I can't go through it.
- 47:51SPEAKER_1: Well, they also have videos there.
- 47:53SPEAKER_1: So you can,
- 47:54SPEAKER_1: if you go to that page,
- 47:56SPEAKER_1: disasterassistance.gov,
- 48:01SPEAKER_1: you can click on a YouTube link and it will give you English versions,
- 48:08SPEAKER_1: it'll also give you Spanish versions and other versions
- 48:15SPEAKER_1: on how you can navigate yourself through the process of requesting funds
- 48:23SPEAKER_1: and getting some of the resources that are out there.
- 48:27SPEAKER_1: The governor just announced,
- 48:28SPEAKER_1: I don't know, what, $2.1 million or something, Mr. President, that's out there.
- 48:35SPEAKER_1: So we just want to make sure we're trying to lead folks somewhere where they can
- 48:40SPEAKER_1: at least start the process now and get some of that funding that's available.
- 48:46SPEAKER_2: And I want to, with the little time we got, I encourage them to do this immediately.
- 48:50SPEAKER_2: You don't want the governor to give out his money.
- 48:54SPEAKER_2: And then you're coming in at the last minute and they're going to tell you,
- 48:57SPEAKER_2: well, we already gave the money out.
- 49:00SPEAKER_2: Because 2.1 million sounds like a big number,
- 49:04SPEAKER_2: but when you consider the number of people who've been doing a crisis,
- 49:08SPEAKER_2: that ain't no money.
- 49:11SPEAKER_1: 2.1 million is not any money.
- 49:13SPEAKER_2: Yeah.
- 49:14SPEAKER_2: That's not any money.
- 49:16SPEAKER_2: You go to replacing homes or other stuff, infrastructure stuff, that's no money.
- 49:21SPEAKER_2: So if you don't want to get caught in hearing that,
- 49:24SPEAKER_2: I would encourage you to make a top priority to get the disasterassistance.gov
- 49:31SPEAKER_2: and get my name in the app.
- 49:34SPEAKER_1: We know the bridge in, I believe, is up in Hamilton County.
- 49:38SPEAKER_1: That's more than $2 million worth of work made.
- 49:41SPEAKER_1: That tells you right there we got a long way to go to meet the needs of people.
- 49:47SPEAKER_1: So we're going to stop right there.
- 49:49SPEAKER_1: But once again, that's where you can get that information.
- 49:52SPEAKER_1: I did confirm the deadline is October 25th.
- 49:57SPEAKER_1: But don't wait till October 25th.
- 49:59SPEAKER_1: Our president said, go ahead and do it now.
- 50:02SPEAKER_1: So you at least have some guidance there to help you prayerfully.
- 50:07SPEAKER_1: You're able to navigate through it.
- 50:09SPEAKER_1: And we hope our people are getting back on their feet.
- 50:12SPEAKER_1: Mr. President, that's all we've got for tonight.
- 50:15SPEAKER_1: And we hope everyone, once again, is getting on the road to recovery.
- 50:19SPEAKER_1: Everyone, we thank you for joining us on tonight.
- 50:23SPEAKER_1: And we'll hopefully catch you on next week.
- 50:25SPEAKER_2: You gotta stay cool.
- 50:27SPEAKER_1: Take care.
- 50:27SPEAKER_1: Absolutely.
