- 2:31Speaker 4: I Am October Kiss. Poppy is hired near Halloween as
- 2:36Speaker 4: a temporary nanny by Ryan, a widowed, work obsessed executive.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Through a series of adventures, the eternally optimistic Poppy sets
- 2:47Speaker 4: out to teach Ryan and his two young children what's
- 2:49Speaker 4: important in life, unconditional love, family, and the joy of
- 2:53Speaker 4: everyday occurrences.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Ashley william plays Poppy Summer Ale. She has eighty one credits.
- 2:58Speaker 3: We saw her most recently in Notes of Autumn. She's
- 3:01Speaker 3: very well known in the Hallmark universe. But outside of that,
- 3:05Speaker 3: I saw her play Victoria in sixteen episodes of How
- 3:07Speaker 3: I'm at Your Mother and Claire in the twenty eleven
- 3:11Speaker 3: Emily Given book adaptation in Something Borrowed?
- 3:14Speaker 4: Did you realize that Ashley Williams is not in any
- 3:17Speaker 4: movies in this year's countdown.
- 3:19Speaker 3: To Christis line up? Did realize that? As I was
- 3:21Speaker 3: preparing for today's episode that's a miss?
- 3:23Speaker 4: What's happening there?
- 3:25Speaker 3: I think there's just so many I think there's just
- 3:27Speaker 3: so many stars.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Well, then I'm hoping for something in January from her. Oh, hopefully,
- 3:34Speaker 4: I'm hopeful This movie co stars Sam Jager as workaholic Ryan.
- 3:40Speaker 4: This appears to be Sam's only Hallmark movie. During the
- 3:43Speaker 4: making of October Kiss, Sam was also co starring in
- 3:46Speaker 4: the family drama Parenthood. Of recent he has been in
- 3:51Speaker 4: nineteen episodes of The Handmaid's Tale, Devil in Ohio and
- 3:54Speaker 4: The Eyes of Tammy Fay.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Second appearance of Devil in Ohio in Our News and
- 3:59Speaker 3: Notes recently. Yeah have you watched that?
- 4:02Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:02Speaker 3: Do I need to? You won't like it? Okay. Hannah
- 4:05Speaker 3: Charami plays Zoe Larson. This was her first of nine
- 4:08Speaker 3: acting credits. She would go on to appear in other
- 4:11Speaker 3: things including Escape from Mister Lemonchello's Library, a movie adaptation
- 4:16Speaker 3: of a book series that my kids loved. She's also
- 4:19Speaker 3: in the sci fi thriller From which is a show
- 4:22Speaker 3: my husband watches. I don't partake. Wendy has a big
- 4:26Speaker 3: old red circle with a line through it when it
- 4:28Speaker 3: comes to sci fi.
- 4:29Speaker 4: So it's not for me. I also saw that she's
- 4:32Speaker 4: now twenty years old.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I did notice on her IMDb. She has all grown up.
- 4:35Speaker 3: She's beautiful, she's all grown up.
- 4:37Speaker 4: This movie originally aired October seventeenth, twenty fifteen. And it
- 4:42Speaker 4: was originally titled Temporarily Yours.
- 4:45Speaker 3: I like that better, do you?
- 4:48Speaker 4: It is cute, it's cute. It's cute to her.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I think so too.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I think I like it too better well.
- 4:53Speaker 3: The writer of this movie is Mackenzie Austin. She has
- 4:55Speaker 3: two writing credits. The other is Winter Love Story starring
- 4:59Speaker 3: Jen lily And and McGary and I feel like October
- 5:03Speaker 3: Kiss Winter Love Story. They're fine, but very generic. Temporarily
- 5:07Speaker 3: Yours speaks more to what this movie is about, but
- 5:11Speaker 3: it doesn't. It's not like Temporary Yours, and the leaves
- 5:14Speaker 3: like it says not the fall vibe, so I understand
- 5:17Speaker 3: why they went with October Kiss. This was directed by
- 5:20Speaker 3: Lynn Stopkowitz, who has twenty seven directing credits, including an
- 5:25Speaker 3: Aurora te Guarden mystery with an eerily similar title to
- 5:29Speaker 3: one we just reviewed. Three Bedrooms, One Corpse. Oh I
- 5:33Speaker 3: thought it was one ghost, I wrote corpse. It is
- 5:39Speaker 3: three Bedrooms, one corpse.
- 5:41Speaker 4: It is indeed, does that have movies and mysteries?
- 5:45Speaker 3: Of course it's Sina or a tea guarden mystery.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Finally, Raiders on IMDb gave this movie six point five
- 5:53Speaker 4: out of ten.
- 5:53Speaker 3: I'd like to point out the key for O'Riley plays
- 5:55Speaker 3: Zach Larson in this movie. And I know Wendy hates
- 5:57Speaker 3: kids and she didn't pull this, but speaking of all
- 5:59Speaker 3: grown up dude has thirty five acting credits, including a
- 6:02Speaker 3: role in the entire first season of the Disney Plus
- 6:05Speaker 3: adaptation The Mighty Ducks Game Changer as one of the
- 6:07Speaker 3: Don't Bothers. I don't.
- 6:10Speaker 4: I've never seen that show. I don't know what what
- 6:12Speaker 4: is it? Don't Bother? Is that a team?
- 6:14Speaker 3: It's the hockey team that has developed.
- 6:17Speaker 4: They're like, it's called don't Bother?
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, because they're the kids that, like the other coaches
- 6:21Speaker 3: don't bother with. Oh that's sad. It is there, like
- 6:25Speaker 3: the underdogs?
- 6:26Speaker 4: Did they end up winning?
- 6:28Speaker 3: I mean, you gotta watch.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Okay, I didn't like purposely leave him out, but I did.
- 6:33Speaker 3: I know. Okay, should we give him a first impression?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Have you had time to come up with one? No,
- 6:38Speaker 3: you go first. My first impression is? Is this the
- 6:40Speaker 3: moment in which Ashley Williams was typecast? Oh?
- 6:44Speaker 4: For real, for real, We're just gonna go with the
- 6:48Speaker 4: your first impression.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I don't.
- 6:49Speaker 4: I don't have one sign, no sign other than my
- 6:52Speaker 4: other first impression was I texted Megan while watching this
- 6:55Speaker 4: and I was like, ugh, did you see his kitchen?
- 6:57Speaker 3: It's so dated, I said, I didn't claw other than
- 7:00Speaker 3: his hideous barstools that are so uncomfortable. Would you ever
- 7:05Speaker 3: sit on like a criss cross waffle patterned metal chair?
- 7:10Speaker 3: And that's not like sit here and do your homework
- 7:12Speaker 3: kid while mom bakes cookies. The back of your legs
- 7:15Speaker 3: when you get up for that thing. No, no, awful
- 7:19Speaker 3: for the back of your legs squishing through each as
- 7:22Speaker 3: you're sitting there like a.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Pillsbury dough coming out of a can.
- 7:27Speaker 3: No, thank you. Let's talk likes for October kiss.
- 7:34Speaker 4: I have a few. Yeah, I loved, loved, loved that
- 7:39Speaker 4: this was set during Halloween. Yes, that's my number one.
- 7:42Speaker 4: When I asked on our Instagram what Hallmark movies are
- 7:48Speaker 4: there that are Halloween themed? Are take place during Halloween
- 7:53Speaker 4: and this was the only title mentioned, this.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Was like, this is it is next week's movie? Not
- 7:59Speaker 3: a hall not a Hallmark movie. It's just Hallmark adjacent
- 8:02Speaker 3: because Autumn Racer, isn't it. Nikki Deloch, Yeah, I always
- 8:07Speaker 3: transpose their two name to my mind. Yes, it was
- 8:12Speaker 3: not originally a Hallmark movie, but Hallmark fans have adopted
- 8:16Speaker 3: it as one of their own.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Yes, exactly what I thought. Exactly. I have a question though,
- 8:23Speaker 4: I'm just not sure why Hallmark doesn't make at least
- 8:25Speaker 4: one movie a year that takes place at Halloween other
- 8:28Speaker 4: than this. This is what I was thinking. Maybe people
- 8:33Speaker 4: don't rewatch Halloween themed movies.
- 8:36Speaker 3: That's a good question. Do you consider, like they make
- 8:40Speaker 3: so many Christmas movies, right? Yeah, but Christmas is for
- 8:44Speaker 3: many people a season. Is Halloween a season or is
- 8:49Speaker 3: it like a day and then there's like fall?
- 8:52Speaker 4: I think it's fall with Halloween as like maybe at most.
- 8:56Speaker 3: A week the way it it. Certainly now it's come
- 9:00Speaker 3: like that, right, there's so many like Halloween when you
- 9:03Speaker 3: have kids.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Right, So is that why you don't think hollow or homemark.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Maybe it's just not as marketable. Yeah, that's what I think.
- 9:12Speaker 3: But I think they should have more than one. And
- 9:14Speaker 3: they don't lean too hard on the Halloween. It's just
- 9:17Speaker 3: like a moment. I mean, they're getting their costumes and okay, okay,
- 9:22Speaker 3: they're decorating, they're getting their costumes. I get it, but
- 9:24Speaker 3: it's it does become a season because they're decorating and
- 9:28Speaker 3: they're making cookies.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Like the timeframe here is only like two weeks. Yeah,
- 9:33Speaker 4: it's not much. You're right, it's not much.
- 9:37Speaker 3: So I wrote this movie features child actors that even
- 9:40Speaker 3: Wendy can't hate question Mark. Oh No.
- 9:43Speaker 4: The daughter was so sassy and the boy was like sweet.
- 9:48Speaker 4: But I was like, dude, you can't be that scared
- 9:51Speaker 4: of spiders, Like come on. But the daughter probably annoyed
- 9:54Speaker 4: me the most just because she was like, like, they
- 9:59Speaker 4: wouldn't even give this nanny a chance when she like
- 10:02Speaker 4: came to their house, like they were just nasty to her.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Not they the daughter was nasty to her.
- 10:09Speaker 3: She was nasty to her. I don't like that. Well,
- 10:12Speaker 3: I don't love it either. I mean, I don't want
- 10:15Speaker 3: someone to be nasty to me. I don't like kids
- 10:17Speaker 3: that are nasty. However, I think it was like a
- 10:19Speaker 3: little bit of self preservation. They're like, this chick's gonna
- 10:22Speaker 3: leave us too, Like nobody pays any attention to us,
- 10:25Speaker 3: and this chick's gonna leave us. I'm so I'm not
- 10:29Speaker 3: gonna let myself get attached. I hear you.
- 10:31Speaker 4: But if you're so starved for attention.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Yeah, but they've been burned so many times, so she's like,
- 10:37Speaker 3: screw you. I'm not even going to let myself care
- 10:41Speaker 3: about you.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Did they establish that those kids had been burned before
- 10:44Speaker 4: by other like babysitters.
- 10:46Speaker 3: It seemed like the dad was like, yeah, I'll do anything,
- 10:50Speaker 3: like please stay for two weeks like I you know,
- 10:53Speaker 3: she comes home and she's like scrubbing the carpet. I
- 10:55Speaker 3: think they had established that the kids were a little
- 10:57Speaker 3: bit of a menace.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I mean, if you were hired as a nanny, would
- 11:02Speaker 4: you scrub somebody's carpet if there was.
- 11:05Speaker 3: A mess and a spill, You're just gonna leave the
- 11:08Speaker 3: big spill there. You're not gonna clean up after you.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Oh. I was thinking she was like cleanings an old spill.
- 11:13Speaker 3: No, that's not my impression. I certainly would. No, I'm
- 11:16Speaker 3: not breaking out the little green steam machine while after
- 11:20Speaker 3: the kids go to bed. No, but if a mess
- 11:22Speaker 3: happens on my watch, I'll do my best to clean
- 11:24Speaker 3: it up.
- 11:25Speaker 4: So you enjoyed the children in this movie.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I did, Okay, I don't think the movie exists without
- 11:31Speaker 3: the children.
- 11:32Speaker 4: It doesn't. It doesn't, it doesn't.
- 11:34Speaker 3: And I liked their arc. I saw a review that
- 11:38Speaker 3: said like, no kids like their nanny. This is not believable.
- 11:41Speaker 3: And I spent a lot of time in the car
- 11:43Speaker 3: this morning thinking about that comment, because I think the
- 11:47Speaker 3: reality is when you see on TV or in a
- 11:52Speaker 3: movie you've got a single parent bringing in a love interest, right.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Often times we see the kids pushing back against that.
- 12:02Speaker 3: But in this case, we had two kids who just
- 12:05Speaker 3: wanted their dad to spend time with them, and then
- 12:07Speaker 3: nanny was not you know, she didn't come into their
- 12:10Speaker 3: lives as a romantic interest, and she also wasn't a
- 12:13Speaker 3: roadblock with their dad spending time with him. She was
- 12:16Speaker 3: a interested in them. She made them feel important, and
- 12:21Speaker 3: she was trying to facilitate the dad's relationship. She wasn't
- 12:23Speaker 3: like I'm going to take away you're already limited time
- 12:26Speaker 3: with your dad like that other office lady was trying.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Abigail, Yeah, yeah, good points. Did you like anything else
- 12:36Speaker 4: I did? Ashley Williams is damn delightful. Like I think
- 12:41Speaker 4: she's a great actor, She's got a great smile, she
- 12:43Speaker 4: has stunning eyes. But like Notes of Autumn, her energy
- 12:48Speaker 4: level is at one hundred. I just need her to
- 12:52Speaker 4: rein it in. I can't think of another movie besides
- 12:56Speaker 4: Notes of Autumn. And I know I've seen her like
- 12:58Speaker 4: the Sister Swap. I don't remember her being like so like,
- 13:01Speaker 4: yes you do, go back and listen to your review
- 13:03Speaker 4: for real?
- 13:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 13:04Speaker 4: Is she the same way?
- 13:06Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 13:06Speaker 3: Is she always been like this?
- 13:07Speaker 4: I know you said like, is this when she was
- 13:09Speaker 4: type cast? Is she always like at one hundred?
- 13:13Speaker 3: I don't think so, because I watched her in How
- 13:18Speaker 3: I'm at Your Mother. Oh, and she's not Mary Poppins
- 13:23Speaker 3: in that.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Okay, So.
- 13:26Speaker 3: I like the energy she brings because I find often
- 13:29Speaker 3: some of these Hallmark movies can be really low energy.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Oh totally, and I think Sam kind of plays to
- 13:36Speaker 3: the low energy. Yeah yeah, Joel.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Did you immediately clock him as Joel from Parenthood when
- 13:42Speaker 3: you were watching this? Of course I was like, yeah,
- 13:44Speaker 3: I just do I know him from I mean, as
- 13:47Speaker 3: soon as I looked it up, I was like, of
- 13:48Speaker 3: course that's Joel, but you know how I get him confused?
- 13:50Speaker 4: But sometimes the guy that played like the haughty love
- 13:53Speaker 4: interest on the Bowl type Richard Yes, oh yeah, who
- 13:57Speaker 4: is also in Hallmark movies? Sam Paige is his name? Yes,
- 14:01Speaker 4: I can see that.
- 14:01Speaker 3: So anyway, I like the energy she brings, it keeps
- 14:04Speaker 3: it keeps things interesting on screen. And I think in
- 14:08Speaker 3: this movie it's true to her character. I mean, her
- 14:11Speaker 3: character cannot be tied down. She bounces from thing to thing.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Can we talk about that?
- 14:17Speaker 4: I mean it's kind of more in my wish for
- 14:19Speaker 4: I mean, I have other likes, but do you want
- 14:22Speaker 4: to put a pin in that for a second.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Well, let's talk about it.
- 14:25Speaker 4: So as I'm watching this, I'm feeling an immense amount
- 14:31Speaker 4: of guilt and I'm like, I've never been I know,
- 14:35Speaker 4: she's not there the mother of these children, but she's
- 14:38Speaker 4: like playing with them and like, let's go on these
- 14:42Speaker 4: adventures and let's do this one stuff. And I was like, oh,
- 14:45Speaker 4: I wish I was a parent like that to my child.
- 14:49Speaker 4: But then I was like, she doesn't also have to
- 14:51Speaker 4: like make dinner and clean the bathroom and other other
- 14:55Speaker 4: stuff that she's finding.
- 14:56Speaker 3: The permission slips and shopping for the stuff she's saw
- 15:00Speaker 3: to bring for the class party and run in their
- 15:02Speaker 3: laundry so they have clothes for soccer practice.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Right?
- 15:05Speaker 3: What was my point here that you feel guilty that
- 15:07Speaker 3: you're not the fun mom. Yeah?
- 15:10Speaker 4: And she was like the fun mom nanny.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Yes, And she's getting paid to do the fun stuff, right.
- 15:16Speaker 4: So do you think now when her and Ryan the
- 15:19Speaker 4: dad get together, does she shift into now I'm stepmom
- 15:24Speaker 4: and my less fun now because now I have to
- 15:26Speaker 4: enforce the rules and enforce behaviors and whatever.
- 15:31Speaker 3: No, I think. Look, I'm not a fun mom either,
- 15:35Speaker 3: I know. No, I'm not either. I know I making nice? Like,
- 15:41Speaker 3: Am I the mom who loved pretend play? No? I
- 15:44Speaker 3: hated it. I hated pretend play too. You want me
- 15:47Speaker 3: to sit in color with you? Like that's I can
- 15:49Speaker 3: do that, But like here, mommy, you be the bad guy. No, no,
- 15:54Speaker 3: I'm out.
- 15:55Speaker 4: I can't.
- 15:55Speaker 3: It hurts me. Like I like structured activities?
- 15:58Speaker 4: Yeah, me too, same I was.
- 16:00Speaker 3: That's never the fun mom. Does that mean that my
- 16:02Speaker 3: kids had a bad childhood? They found fun in other ways.
- 16:06Speaker 3: I don't think it's the parent's responsibility to entertain. Yes,
- 16:10Speaker 3: to be the child's entertainer. Now, if that's something you
- 16:12Speaker 3: find joy in, making shopping for Halloween decorations into a
- 16:17Speaker 3: whole event, cool. But I think there's more than one
- 16:19Speaker 3: way to be a good mom.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe she takes on more like responsibility. I think
- 16:27Speaker 3: her personality is to like turn everything into an activity,
- 16:31Speaker 3: and my personality is, let's get this done. And I
- 16:35Speaker 3: don't have time for the fun stuff. And I know
- 16:38Speaker 3: I suck. My kids are teenagers now, so it works.
- 16:41Speaker 3: They don't want to do the fun stuff either, Okay.
- 16:43Speaker 4: I also want to talk about her inability to like
- 16:47Speaker 4: not be able to keep a job.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 4: I didn't really love that kind of narrative. I know
- 16:54Speaker 4: they needed to like make her free spirited, but is.
- 16:57Speaker 3: It that she can't keep a job or that she
- 16:59Speaker 3: can't find something she loves? And by the way, does
- 17:01Speaker 3: she find something that she loves other than being like
- 17:04Speaker 3: at the end of this movie, I was like, wait
- 17:05Speaker 3: a minute, does she have a job or is she
- 17:08Speaker 3: just she's just a girlfriend? Yeah?
- 17:10Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I never love it when we paint a woman as
- 17:15Speaker 3: like she's fun and therefore unseerious at all times.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Exactly. That's one of my biggest pet peeves.
- 17:21Speaker 3: You can maybe fun and have a drive for finding
- 17:26Speaker 3: excitement in your life and still keep your life together.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Can I give you one more like to please? Aesthetically,
- 17:35Speaker 4: I love the outdoor Halloween decorations. I thought what they
- 17:39Speaker 4: did to their fron herd was very.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Does it make you feel like you're at home based
- 17:43Speaker 3: on the decoration situation happening on your street.
- 17:47Speaker 4: The decorations happening on my street are downright terrifying, as
- 17:50Speaker 4: well as your neighbor's scary big thing.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Oh okay, wait pod animated. No, but it lights up
- 17:56Speaker 3: like the wand the scary witch lights up. There's like
- 17:59Speaker 3: a little light end of it. And it's not always on,
- 18:01Speaker 3: and sometimes on during the day and sometimes on at night.
- 18:03Speaker 3: It's weird. It's like it's sentient. Speaking of their decorations,
- 18:09Speaker 3: there's not at the nanny house, but at Poppy's sister's house,
- 18:14Speaker 3: which I guess is where she lives. Yeah, they have
- 18:17Speaker 3: a bunch of decorations as well. And one of those
- 18:19Speaker 3: decorations this was and my digity level we're talking about it.
- 18:21Speaker 3: There's a mummy like sitting up against a tombstone. It
- 18:26Speaker 3: looked like a person. It was like, that looks like
- 18:29Speaker 3: a body, like I said.
- 18:31Speaker 4: The outdoor decorations were cute, but with that I hated
- 18:35Speaker 4: the interior cheesy party store decorations like the boo sign
- 18:41Speaker 4: and the cobwebs all over the kitchen, like no, no.
- 18:45Speaker 3: No cobwebs in your kitchen are a mess.
- 18:48Speaker 4: No. No, And it was even in his office. I
- 18:50Speaker 4: was like, is he doing like zoom meetings with like
- 18:52Speaker 4: a skeleton behind at length?
- 18:54Speaker 3: So stupid? What did you think of Zoe's Halloween costume?
- 18:59Speaker 3: Her cute witch costs? They were cute. I don't hate kids.
- 19:03Speaker 3: I don't hate kids, guys. I liked her costume and
- 19:06Speaker 3: I liked her. She was like, you're not just gonna
- 19:07Speaker 3: buy it from the store, like, we're gonna make it work.
- 19:09Speaker 4: I love a homade costume. I think that's really cute.
- 19:13Speaker 4: You know what I just realized. I think we have
- 19:16Speaker 4: maybe type casted me as like a full ogre, like
- 19:22Speaker 4: I don't like Christmas, I don't like kids, I not fun.
- 19:26Speaker 3: I'm really not all those things though. I think I
- 19:29Speaker 3: am fun in Bubbly. You know, your personality used to
- 19:34Speaker 3: be used to be what fun?
- 19:38Speaker 2: Oh?
- 19:38Speaker 3: No, lightly tread? I know what I mean. I don't
- 19:43Speaker 3: mean your personality used to be I mean the persona
- 19:48Speaker 3: that you projected on the internet used to be, like
- 19:51Speaker 3: you were the cheerleader. I am a cheerleader. I agree
- 19:54Speaker 3: with that. That's what I'm saying. I am a cheerleader.
- 19:57Speaker 3: You just know the real Meia.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Sometimes I don't like things.
- 20:00Speaker 3: We're team wet blankets. It's okay, that's why we're friends.
- 20:05Speaker 3: It's all right. I I like kids though. I like
- 20:10Speaker 3: children too. I do like kids.
- 20:15Speaker 4: I like my kid best, but.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Like kids.
- 20:20Speaker 4: All right, Let's move on to oh what you wished for?
- 20:23Speaker 3: The sister needs to sim it down. Getting married is
- 20:27Speaker 3: not a required life goal. Like the spinster old made
- 20:30Speaker 3: conversation not funny funny. I was annoyed by that too.
- 20:34Speaker 3: It was really funny to think of twenty fifteen as
- 20:37Speaker 3: the olden days, but it definitely is in terms of
- 20:40Speaker 3: Hallmark standards for women. Oh for sure.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Yeah, was the sister even married? I don't remember seeing
- 20:47Speaker 4: a husband.
- 20:47Speaker 3: There's never a husband, but she has children, so it's implied, Ah,
- 20:52Speaker 3: got you, she was married at some point, at least
- 20:56Speaker 3: got you.
- 20:57Speaker 4: I hated the whole scene where Ryan comes home to
- 21:00Speaker 4: his kids and has to sit through a beat down
- 21:02Speaker 4: of why he's a shitty dad.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Dude, can you imagine if your nanny facilitated that idea?
- 21:09Speaker 3: I know you by it. There's no way like that
- 21:15Speaker 3: hole that.
- 21:16Speaker 4: It made me so uncomfortable.
- 21:19Speaker 3: It made me so uncomfortable. She's like I got this idea,
- 21:21Speaker 3: and then he comes home and they just gilt tripped him. Yes,
- 21:25Speaker 3: he works a lot, he's also a single parent with
- 21:29Speaker 3: a job, who needs to provide for these children, right,
- 21:32Speaker 3: and I get that, like he misses out on some things.
- 21:37Speaker 3: What choice does the man have, right, right, it's only him.
- 21:41Speaker 3: He's hired this woman who's clearly taking good care of them,
- 21:45Speaker 3: who's showing up for them. I think this is really
- 21:51Speaker 3: problematic in terms of, like you need to be all
- 21:54Speaker 3: things for your children, and I mean we tend to
- 21:55Speaker 3: put this on mothers. So I guess it's okay, maybe
- 21:58Speaker 3: a little bit better that it's the dad getting this treatment.
- 22:03Speaker 3: But when he is has to be all things because
- 22:07Speaker 3: he's widowed, something's got to give kids, and sometimes that
- 22:11Speaker 3: means he can't make it to your daytime Halloween party.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I was like, give the guy some slack. Maybe
- 22:18Speaker 4: he does have a demanding job. But also at this time,
- 22:21Speaker 4: he's trying to get this app sold like he's in
- 22:23Speaker 4: a season.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Yeah, like got him a break. Doesn't seem to be
- 22:29Speaker 3: like this is how it's always going to be. He's
- 22:31Speaker 3: clearly on this like timeline of getting this app invested
- 22:35Speaker 3: in and he needs everyone like there's it's give and
- 22:41Speaker 3: take in a family, even between kids and parents, and
- 22:44Speaker 3: he needed to be like, look, do you like living
- 22:46Speaker 3: in this house? Yeah?
- 22:48Speaker 4: Sometimes he needed to throw down the hammer. I think, yes, yeah,
- 22:51Speaker 4: because this is when that girl, the daughter was getting
- 22:54Speaker 4: all snappy when she's on the stairs and she's like,
- 22:58Speaker 4: you don't ever show up for us? I don't know
- 23:00Speaker 4: whatever she said, and I was like, oh, so frustrating.
- 23:05Speaker 3: When Poppy has the conversation about her two different parenting
- 23:09Speaker 3: styles and how she had like the mom who was
- 23:12Speaker 3: fun but unreliable and the stoic dad but who showed up. Yeah, okay,
- 23:19Speaker 3: but showing up doesn't always mean you're physically present at everything.
- 23:23Speaker 4: I know.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Can you imagine if your nanny was like shaming your parenting? No,
- 23:28Speaker 3: you're fired. Yes this it's not a good working relationship anymore,
- 23:32Speaker 3: not like any of that.
- 23:34Speaker 1: No.
- 23:35Speaker 4: What'd you think about the Abigail love storyline.
- 23:38Speaker 3: I think it's an unnecessary distraction. Me too, and I
- 23:43Speaker 3: it leads to an unnecessary miscommunication. She sees them kissing,
- 23:48Speaker 3: she makes an assumption that he's as all in on
- 23:50Speaker 3: it as Abigail is, and then she decides like oh,
- 23:53Speaker 3: this isn't for me, and then they don't have any
- 23:55Speaker 3: conversation and then home Mark yesterday.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Yes, yes, I my biggest problem with that whole storyline.
- 24:05Speaker 4: I agree was not necessary. But also Ryan at some
- 24:08Speaker 4: point sees that Abigail as like not for.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Him and doesn't shut it down. Cut it loose, dude. Yes, yes,
- 24:16Speaker 3: and he is in an awkward position because he works
- 24:18Speaker 3: with this woman. Well, then don't get involved with you
- 24:21Speaker 3: work with, have the conversation and say this isn't working
- 24:26Speaker 3: for me. Wow, time for Did you see that? I
- 24:29Speaker 3: got a whole bunch? Okay, you can go first. Okay,
- 24:33Speaker 3: early in the movie, the Poppy and her sister and
- 24:35Speaker 3: the boys are sitting down to dinner, and the boys go, this,
- 24:37Speaker 3: broccoli is really good. Mom, as if we like broccoli
- 24:41Speaker 3: in my house? I love broccoli. Your child liked broccoli
- 24:45Speaker 3: from a young age. Yes, okay, well it's one.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Of the few vegetables she'll eat.
- 24:49Speaker 3: But yeah, I guarantee you no one in my house
- 24:52Speaker 3: I love broccoli. Do you were like, roast it with something.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Makes your house so bad?
- 24:59Speaker 3: Yeah, like farts, but so delicious. So I love most vegetables,
- 25:05Speaker 3: but I didn't as a child, and I just didn't
- 25:08Speaker 3: believe it. There's mac and cheese on that play and
- 25:10Speaker 3: he's talking about the Broncoln. Also, there's a family photo
- 25:16Speaker 3: on the stairs at Ryan's house in the photo shop
- 25:18Speaker 3: in black and white.
- 25:19Speaker 1: So bad.
- 25:20Speaker 4: It's so bad. I've noticed it too.
- 25:22Speaker 3: I just didn't need it.
- 25:24Speaker 4: I was like today in twenty twenty three with Ai,
- 25:27Speaker 4: you can just be like, create me a picture with
- 25:29Speaker 4: these four people. Yeah, and it's gonna come out so
- 25:31Speaker 4: much better. So funny. I have a few things. Ryan
- 25:36Speaker 4: tells Poppy he's thirty four. Sam Jeger today is forty six,
- 25:43Speaker 4: So in twenty five, twenty fifteen, he would have been
- 25:46Speaker 4: thirty eight. And I know four years isn't like a
- 25:48Speaker 4: huge difference, But why aren't they true to age?
- 25:53Speaker 3: Yeah, because she is genuinely younger than him. I believe
- 25:56Speaker 3: Ashley Williams a few years younger than him. Few I
- 25:58Speaker 3: look too, she's just a few year you're younger. And
- 26:01Speaker 3: she was playing what six years younger than him? She
- 26:02Speaker 3: said she was twenty eight in the movie.
- 26:05Speaker 4: She was like making a joke about it, so I
- 26:07Speaker 4: don't really remember how old she was.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Yeah, why if you're close in age to your actual age.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Why not just say how old you are?
- 26:14Speaker 4: I don't know his app Food with Friends? Would you ever?
- 26:20Speaker 1: No?
- 26:20Speaker 3: But I want to tell you my husband for a
- 26:23Speaker 3: long time has My husband's not a for the listeners,
- 26:27Speaker 3: A tech guy. Yeah, he probably has like three apps
- 26:29Speaker 3: on his phone, Ticketmaster, ESPN. He's not an app dude.
- 26:35Speaker 3: But he's had these two app ideas for a long time,
- 26:40Speaker 3: and one of them he has names for them, one
- 26:42Speaker 3: of them. But he's like, you know, when you just
- 26:44Speaker 3: want a friend to go to a concert with or
- 26:47Speaker 3: whatever it is, because he loves to go to concerts
- 26:49Speaker 3: and I don't always want to go with him. So
- 26:50Speaker 3: if that's what it was born out of, so it
- 26:52Speaker 3: did make me think of that. But would I just
- 26:55Speaker 3: go to dinner with a stranger to make a friend?
- 27:00Speaker 3: That's my understanding is what this is. It's like a
- 27:02Speaker 3: platonic dating app.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Basically, so you don't have to eat alone.
- 27:07Speaker 3: I'd neither eat alone. I would rather make an awkward conversation.
- 27:10Speaker 4: I hate small chit chat. So no, I don't want
- 27:12Speaker 4: to sit across from somebody while I'm stuffy my face.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Right, I really just sit at the bar. Yes, we're
- 27:20Speaker 3: good to go, I don't talk to me on my
- 27:23Speaker 3: couch shovel it in as quickly as I can with
- 27:26Speaker 3: an episode of Real Housewives like normal people do. No.
- 27:30Speaker 3: I don't think there's any shame in eating in a
- 27:31Speaker 3: restaurant alone either. No. None. I'm not that interested in
- 27:35Speaker 3: meeting new people. That doesn't apply to any listener of
- 27:38Speaker 3: the podcast. We'd love to meet you. I just mean
- 27:40Speaker 3: I'm not desperate for interaction to pull up an.
- 27:44Speaker 4: App like you're confident enough to sit with yourself.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Yeah, but I do think there are people who are like,
- 27:51Speaker 3: are you kidding me? Sitting by MYSELFE sounds terrible. I
- 27:53Speaker 3: need to talk to someone, I said, found yourself last
- 27:56Speaker 3: night at a rest Yes you did, I did, if
- 27:59Speaker 3: you were a food Friends Potential investor emails Megan and
- 28:02Speaker 3: Wendy at gmail dot com.
- 28:04Speaker 4: All right, I have a couple other things. When they're
- 28:06Speaker 4: looking for corn, she.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Tells the boy, like the best way to.
- 28:11Speaker 4: Look for corn, it's it's almost like if you look
- 28:14Speaker 4: for a watermelon, you look for like the yellow on
- 28:16Speaker 4: one side. I've never heard this advice for corn.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Which she said, like, look and see if it's yellow underneath.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Yes?
- 28:22Speaker 3: Did that mean like on the bottom side of the corn,
- 28:25Speaker 3: or like at the base of the corn kernel.
- 28:28Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 28:28Speaker 3: I've never ever heard this advice. I've not the heard
- 28:32Speaker 3: advice for picking corn. It's usually unshucked. So how are
- 28:35Speaker 3: you supposed to know? Are people peeling the husk back
- 28:38Speaker 3: in a grocery store. I don't know. I don't think
- 28:41Speaker 3: you'd want it shucked like it was in that display.
- 28:43Speaker 3: It's going to start to dry out, isn't it? Maybe
- 28:46Speaker 3: corn dot with Megan and Wendy.
- 28:48Speaker 4: What was funny though that she did not follow her
- 28:50Speaker 4: own advice. She was just like throwing them in her arms,
- 28:53Speaker 4: like and then leave them behind, including her popcorn. She
- 28:56Speaker 4: had that big bucket of popcorn and then left it behind.
- 28:59Speaker 4: I was like, what they are shopping for Halloween decorations
- 29:03Speaker 4: are at like Party City or whatever, and they come across,
- 29:05Speaker 4: like the pumpkin carving kits. She's like, we need three,
- 29:09Speaker 4: only grabs two. Thought it was funny. When they are
- 29:12Speaker 4: baking cookies, she says she doesn't believe in measuring. I'm like, no, ma'am.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Baking is a science exactly. It must be measured or
- 29:20Speaker 3: it's gonna come out terrible. Yeah, you don't need to
- 29:23Speaker 3: measure in cooking, but baking is pretty important. And the
- 29:28Speaker 3: most nicely decorated cookies you've ever seen in your entire life.
- 29:30Speaker 4: One hundred percent.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Yeah. This. There's no way it would have been more
- 29:36Speaker 3: believable if they were a complete disaster. Because this woman,
- 29:39Speaker 3: according to the character you've built for her, yeah, can't
- 29:42Speaker 3: focus on anything for long enough. So you're telling me
- 29:45Speaker 3: we have decorated cookies, Wendy, and I mm hmmm, they
- 29:49Speaker 3: didn't look like that. They looked okay, they looked great, okay,
- 29:53Speaker 3: but they didn't those were professional level. Will include a
- 29:57Speaker 3: photo of some of our decorated cookies in the show notes.
- 29:59Speaker 3: But I mean, it took us an hour and a
- 30:01Speaker 3: half to do six and they're just like churning them out.
- 30:03Speaker 3: They've got trays and trays of these beautifully decorated, flood
- 30:06Speaker 3: royalizing cookies with.
- 30:09Speaker 4: Children involved not happening. She's like, don't touch, You're.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Gonna ruin it. That's why I have no fun.
- 30:15Speaker 4: I would be like so like trying to oversee the
- 30:20Speaker 4: cookie decorated note. Finally, at the pumpkin patch, toward the inn,
- 30:25Speaker 4: Ryan and Poppy lift what is clearly a huge, fake
- 30:29Speaker 4: styrofoam pumpkin, and.
- 30:31Speaker 3: Then they had to adr the sound of it pumping
- 30:33Speaker 3: into this it's so dumb.
- 30:35Speaker 4: And then they are scraping the seeds out of it,
- 30:38Speaker 4: this fake pumpkin.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Like t one hundred and fifty dollars? How much is
- 30:42Speaker 3: a pumpkin that size of the pumpkin patch got? First
- 30:44Speaker 3: of all, never buy your pumpkin at the pumpkin patch.
- 30:47Speaker 3: It's too expensive, unless unless you're bringing like a little
- 30:50Speaker 3: baby pumpkin, but not something that is clearly going to
- 30:53Speaker 3: be one hundred and fifty bucks. Go take your pictures
- 30:55Speaker 3: of the pumpkin patch and buy your pumpkins at the
- 30:57Speaker 3: grocery store.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Right all right?
- 30:59Speaker 3: Are you ready to eat? Mo vibes? Only three point
- 31:01Speaker 3: five stars? That's my It was fine rating. We need
