- 0:00Speaker 1: You just heard the news. Now you'll find out what
- 0:03Speaker 1: it all means. It's Mark Simone on 710WOR. Hey, welcome
- 0:08Speaker 1: to the show.
- 0:09Speaker 2: It's Monday.
- 0:10Speaker 1: What a weekend. What a weekend. We've got a lot
- 0:26Speaker 1: to get to. We'll get to AI. What is it
- 0:29Speaker 1: exactly that we've got to be afraid of with AI?
- 0:32Speaker 1: I mean, some of it's great. What's the part we've
- 0:34Speaker 1: got to be afraid of? We'll get to that. We'll
- 0:36Speaker 1: get to President Trump. We'll get to Iran. We'll get
- 0:40Speaker 1: to Mamdani. We'll get to SNL. We'll get to AOC.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We'll get to baseball. End of the season. All right.
- 0:49Speaker 1: This was some weekend. This was the first weekend of fall.
- 0:53Speaker 1: And this is what you heard all weekend. What a weekend.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Just stay inside. Every so often you say, well, probably
- 1:07Speaker 1: it's a few hours. Let me go outside. Well, I'll
- 1:14Speaker 1: go to sleep. Wake up in the morning. Let me
- 1:17Speaker 1: go outside. This is all you heard all weekend. This
- 1:26Speaker 1: is Friday night. This is all day Saturday. Saturday night. Sunday.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Sunday night. You say, well, let me check out. That's
- 1:37Speaker 1: all I heard. All I heard. Now, the good news
- 1:41Speaker 1: is you had some terrible flooding, but that's mostly from
- 1:43Speaker 1: rivers overflowing and stuff. We didn't have the street flooding.
- 1:48Speaker 1: As extensively as we usually do, Queens got a lot
- 1:51Speaker 1: of it. There was some street flooding, but usually every parkway,
- 1:55Speaker 1: everything flooded. We didn't get that so much this time
- 1:57Speaker 1: because the rain, the good news is having it come
- 2:01Speaker 1: over two or three days. It came down slowly. It
- 2:03Speaker 1: was like a tenth of an inch an hour at
- 2:05Speaker 1: the most. So it didn't overwhelm the drains everywhere. Now,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I don't want to hear another word about the reservoirs
- 2:13Speaker 1: aren't full anymore. This should have filled them up. I
- 2:16Speaker 1: checked before the storm. They were at about 76% capacity.
- 2:20Speaker 1: So this should be all we need. But a lot
- 2:25Speaker 1: of people without power. I've got to give those electric
- 2:28Speaker 1: companies credit. They were pretty quick at getting a lot
- 2:30Speaker 1: of people back up. But it's going to rain today.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And then it's supposed to be nice and dry tomorrow.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And then actually mild on Wednesday. It's supposed to go
- 2:40Speaker 1: back to about 75%. So Wednesday will be a nice day.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I forgot to mention, we'll get to my new iPhone.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Got it yesterday. Started using it last night. And today,
- 2:53Speaker 1: I'll say one thing for it. The one thing about
- 2:55Speaker 1: this phone, it's supposed to have, this is the 18
- 2:58Speaker 1: Pro Max. It's supposed to have incredible battery life. Now,
- 3:02Speaker 1: I've been using it all morning for about two hours.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I've been watching a lot of video on it and YouTube. And, uh,
- 3:11Speaker 1: battery percentage still a hundred has even dropped to 99.
- 3:15Speaker 1: So supposedly the battery can go about two days in,
- 3:19Speaker 1: in this thing. So, uh, president, uh, busy weekend. He
- 3:23Speaker 1: was all over the place doing a few campaign stops, uh, midterms. Now, uh,
- 3:28Speaker 1: all you hear on the news is that the Republicans,
- 3:31Speaker 1: the approval ratings, everything is so low. It's so low.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Nobody has lower approval ratings. than the Republican. Trump is
- 3:38Speaker 1: the lowest approval ratings. He said, yes, true. The part
- 3:43Speaker 1: they forget to mention is the Democrats, it's far worse.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Their approval ratings are really, they're much lower than the Republicans,
- 3:51Speaker 1: much lower than Trump. I don't know why, but CNN
- 3:53Speaker 1: has the most honest pollster Harry Anton, listen to the
- 3:57Speaker 1: CNN pollster on Democrats and their leaders.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Democrats on their own leaders. They don't like their own leaders.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I dare say they despise their own leaders. And this
- 4:05Speaker 2: is the big difference from what we saw back in 2018,
- 4:08Speaker 2: just before Democrats were trying to take back the U.S.
- 4:10Speaker 1: House of Representatives that fall. Take a look here.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Net approval of congressional Dem leaders among Democrats back in 2018.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Look at this. Their net approval rating was.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Plus 19 points. Hey, that's pretty good.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Two thumbs up.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Cisco and Ebert.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Now we're talking about Democrats. Two thumbs down.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Look at this. Minus 12 points. What a different world
- 4:29Speaker 2: that we are in right now. Democrats do not like,
- 4:32Speaker 2: they despise.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Their own leadership. That's not a good sign. Now, as
- 4:37Speaker 1: far as the midterms, Republicans, the messaging, it stinks. It's nonexistent,
- 4:44Speaker 1: pretty much. They got a lot to get out there.
- 4:47Speaker 1: You know, the... The news media always makes it sound
- 4:49Speaker 1: like economy in turmoil, economy in crisis. Well, if you
- 4:52Speaker 1: look at the actual numbers, in fact, nobody reported that
- 4:56Speaker 1: thing that came out a week and a half ago.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Median income at an all-time high, poverty low at an
- 5:01Speaker 1: all-time rate. Inflation's a little up, but it's nowhere, nowhere
- 5:05Speaker 1: near what it was. Oil prices are high, but the
- 5:09Speaker 1: Republicans don't counter message enough. It's getting to be a
- 5:12Speaker 1: little too late. You're a little less than five weeks away.
- 5:16Speaker 1: This is not the time to start. So they've been
- 5:19Speaker 1: screwing up badly on all of this. And, you know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: even in the Iran war, which nobody likes, everybody hates
- 5:27Speaker 1: this Iran war, pain in the neck. I mean, the
- 5:30Speaker 1: good thing is you did stop Iran's nuclear enrichment. They were,
- 5:35Speaker 1: they were, I give, meet the press credit. They had
- 5:39Speaker 1: the Iranian foreign minister on who defended his case. It was,
- 5:44Speaker 1: it was, This guy looked so panicky. It looked like
- 5:47Speaker 1: they were going to execute him in Iran the moment
- 5:49Speaker 1: he got home if he said one wrong word. But
- 5:52Speaker 1: she did ask him. The uranium they had, they kept claiming,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and this guy kept claiming it was just for commercial purposes.
- 6:01Speaker 1: It was for energy, electricity. It was just for commercial purposes.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And she kept saying, well, that would mean you would
- 6:07Speaker 1: enrich to 2% or 3%, 20% at the most. You
- 6:12Speaker 1: kept enriching. You had it up to 60%. And the
- 6:16Speaker 1: guy kept double-talking an answer. And he basically said, that's
- 6:19Speaker 1: not illegal to make it– well, I guess– I mean,
- 6:23Speaker 1: it's not illegal in Iran. It's illegal for us because
- 6:27Speaker 1: if you enrich to 90%, you got a nuclear bomb.
- 6:31Speaker 1: And they got it all the way up to 60%,
- 6:33Speaker 1: which would mean they were two weeks away from 90%,
- 6:36Speaker 1: two weeks away from having the bomb. Now, obviously, you
- 6:39Speaker 1: wouldn't want Iran to have a nuclear bomb. And the
- 6:41Speaker 1: real fear is once they got it, very tough to
- 6:46Speaker 1: go in and stop them. Once they've got nuclear weapons,
- 6:48Speaker 1: it's hard to go to a war with them. So, uh,
- 6:52Speaker 1: she did ask him the tough questions. He did look, uh,
- 6:55Speaker 1: completely frightened as he answered because, uh, they do like
- 6:59Speaker 1: to execute their leaders in, in Iran. So, uh, at present, uh,
- 7:04Speaker 1: there's a big announcement today. Nobody quite knows what it is.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Is it an AI announcement? Is it, uh, it could
- 7:10Speaker 1: be something about the press, uh, The press ban, all
- 7:15Speaker 1: of that stuff. There's a rumor floating around. You know,
- 7:18Speaker 1: they have a beautiful press room. That's where they have
- 7:20Speaker 1: the press conferences. And it used to be the White
- 7:23Speaker 1: House pool for many, many years. I mean, the swimming pool.
- 7:26Speaker 1: The White House had a beautiful swimming pool. A lot
- 7:30Speaker 1: of presidents. It's very good for them. Swimming, good exercise,
- 7:32Speaker 1: good stress reliever. A lot of presidents used it. Kennedy
- 7:37Speaker 1: famously used it with those two hookers. Pixie and Dixie
- 7:42Speaker 1: or Jinks and Hanks, whatever their names were. But was
- 7:47Speaker 1: it Nixon? Yeah, I think it was Nixon that covered.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Nixon didn't want to swim. And they needed to put
- 7:53Speaker 1: a press room someplace. So they covered up the pool,
- 7:56Speaker 1: built a floor over it. And that's where they put
- 7:59Speaker 1: in the press room. And it's been redone a couple
- 8:01Speaker 1: of times. It's a beautiful press room. So a rumor
- 8:04Speaker 1: going around is the president is going to announce he's
- 8:07Speaker 1: going to get rid of the press room, tear up
- 8:09Speaker 1: that floor and bring the pool back. And put the
- 8:13Speaker 1: swimming pool back. It's a good idea. Donald Trump does
- 8:15Speaker 1: not swim ever, so it wouldn't be for him. But
- 8:19Speaker 1: it's a nice idea to have that White House swimming pool.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And as long as you've got a builder in office,
- 8:25Speaker 1: let him do it. Of course, the pool will be
- 8:26Speaker 1: all gold and everything. But so, hey, Bar Lago has
- 8:30Speaker 1: a beautiful pool. The guy has 25 resorts. They all
- 8:33Speaker 1: got beautiful swimming pools. Let him do it. Let him
- 8:35Speaker 1: build it. He loves building projects. So that's just a rumor.
- 8:39Speaker 1: We don't know if that's the announcement. later today uh
- 8:44Speaker 1: now uh ai what is you got to be afraid
- 8:48Speaker 1: of the president saying they didn't really he and president
- 8:52Speaker 1: she didn't really talk about.
- 8:53Speaker 3: It i spoke a little bit about it with president
- 8:56Speaker 3: she not too much it wasn't a topic of conversation.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yeah now that the meeting with president she there's a
- 9:01Speaker 1: lot of criticism that he was so deferential to she
- 9:05Speaker 1: why was he being so respectful and uh More so
- 9:08Speaker 1: than with other leaders. You know, you watch Trump with
- 9:10Speaker 1: a world leader. He's slapping the guy in the back.
- 9:12Speaker 1: When he shakes hands, he grabs the guy's hands and
- 9:14Speaker 1: he pulls them towards him. It's like a domineering kind
- 9:17Speaker 1: of move. He didn't do that with Xi. He's bowing
- 9:20Speaker 1: in a normal handshake. Why was he being so respectful?
- 9:24Speaker 1: Could have been to help Xi. Xi's in a lot
- 9:26Speaker 1: of trouble back home. Xi wants to stay in power.
- 9:30Speaker 1: There's a big movement to get rid of him. There's
- 9:32Speaker 1: a possibility he won't last. He wants to look like
- 9:36Speaker 1: he's a powerful figure on the world stage. So Trump
- 9:40Speaker 1: and him get along, and that might have been a
- 9:42Speaker 1: way of making Xi look stronger back at home, help
- 9:46Speaker 1: him save his job. So that's why he's being so respectful.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I'm sure they talked about AI more than he's saying.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Big thing about AI, if you're to believe this, uh
- 9:57Speaker 1: how dangerous it is and uh some people say there's
- 10:01Speaker 1: nothing to worry about and then you got bill gates
- 10:04Speaker 1: on the sunday shows and writing those uh op-ed pieces
- 10:07Speaker 1: that it's going to kill us all it'll kill a
- 10:08Speaker 1: billion people we're all going to be dead somewhere in
- 10:11Speaker 1: the middle is probably the answer you remember gates is
- 10:14Speaker 1: always uh sounding the alarm bell and always getting too
- 10:18Speaker 1: hyperbolic and hysterical about everything, whether it was food shortages
- 10:22Speaker 1: or vaccines or whatever it was. But there is something
- 10:27Speaker 1: to worry about. But the point is, if it's that dangerous,
- 10:30Speaker 1: if it's that deadly a weapon, if it can wipe
- 10:32Speaker 1: out everybody, then it's crucial that we be the leaders
- 10:37Speaker 1: of AI, that we be the ones in control of
- 10:39Speaker 1: AI and not let China do that. It'd be like
- 10:43Speaker 1: we had no nuclear weapons and China had them all.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So that's the problem. Right now we lead in China.
- 10:49Speaker 1: China is pushing this movement to stop AI here. That
- 10:53Speaker 1: way they can get ahead of us. We're ahead of
- 10:54Speaker 1: them right now, as President Trump points out.
- 10:57Speaker 3: And we're leading and we're building tremendous, you know, trillions
- 11:01Speaker 3: of dollars worth of places. And why should we give
- 11:03Speaker 3: that up? You don't give up a trillion dollar or more,
- 11:08Speaker 3: two or three or four trillion dollar industry because you
- 11:11Speaker 3: think something like that, we will straighten it out if
- 11:14Speaker 3: and when a problem occurs.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Yeah, he's meeting with these AI leaders, the head of Anthropic,
- 11:20Speaker 1: he's having dinner with him tonight.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Well, we're going to talk about it. I'm for let's
- 11:25Speaker 3: go and let's win. You know, we're about a year,
- 11:27Speaker 3: maybe a year and a half up on China. There
- 11:29Speaker 3: is nobody in third place. I mean, it's just us
- 11:32Speaker 3: and China.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's like a nuclear arms race. Now, AI,
- 11:36Speaker 1: a lot of you use it and say it's just cute.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I use it to... Help me write an essay. I
- 11:42Speaker 1: use it to look up stuff. I use it to
- 11:45Speaker 1: work on my website. I use it to do my resume.
- 11:49Speaker 1: What's the danger? Well, that's what a lot of people
- 11:53Speaker 1: are using it for now. It's like a super Google,
- 11:57Speaker 1: a more advanced version of a search engine. It's help
- 12:01Speaker 1: you write stuff. It's helping you with simple tasks like that.
- 12:05Speaker 1: That's what a lot of people are using it for.
- 12:08Speaker 1: There's a much, much deeper... a part of AI where
- 12:13Speaker 1: it can do all kinds of stuff. Instead of it
- 12:16Speaker 1: just writing your copy for your website, people can use
- 12:21Speaker 1: AI to go build a website, create a website, do
- 12:25Speaker 1: all sorts of stuff. It's not like Google. Some people
- 12:27Speaker 1: think it's just an advanced form of Google. Google is
- 12:30Speaker 1: just a search engine. It's just searching. AI can take action.
- 12:35Speaker 1: It can attack a website. It can create bots and
- 12:38Speaker 1: bombard a website. It can hack into a website and
- 12:41Speaker 1: take over a website. These are things Google obviously can't do.
- 12:44Speaker 1: And the part, there's a lot of stuff to AI.
- 12:46Speaker 1: It's too complicated to get into all of it. But
- 12:49Speaker 1: one of the, the part of AI we're worrying about
- 12:52Speaker 1: is what they call the recursive part, the recursive self-improving AI.
- 12:58Speaker 1: And that's where you program the AI to do something.
- 13:04Speaker 1: But the AI has the capability to go beyond what
- 13:07Speaker 1: you told it to do. It can retrain itself. It
- 13:11Speaker 1: can reinvent itself without you. It can autonomously, on its own,
- 13:16Speaker 1: design new codes or transition into something else. You give
- 13:21Speaker 1: it the task. You give it the code. It can
- 13:23Speaker 1: rewrite that. It can advance itself. And if you tell it,
- 13:28Speaker 1: don't do this, don't do that, well, it can suddenly
- 13:31Speaker 1: rewrite the code so it can. That's what they call
- 13:33Speaker 1: the recursive self-improving AI. So that's the part they got
- 13:39Speaker 1: to try to fix. Somehow you got to fix it
- 13:44Speaker 1: so the system can't improve itself on its own, can't
- 13:47Speaker 1: take those actions without permission. But again, it's AI. It
- 13:51Speaker 1: can learn to jailbreak its way out of whatever thing
- 13:54Speaker 1: you set up. So that's the problem. Now people say, well,
- 13:58Speaker 1: we'll just put a, See, a lot of these politicians,
- 14:00Speaker 1: the problem with Congress or anybody regulating it, the Bernie
- 14:04Speaker 1: Sanders type is that they don't know anything about it.
- 14:08Speaker 1: They're just too stupid technically. They don't understand anything about AI.
- 14:12Speaker 1: They don't understand the technology. There's one thing Bill Gates
- 14:14Speaker 1: was saying on these Sunday shows. Because the Bernie Sanders,
- 14:19Speaker 1: you don't require a kill switch on it. Gates was explaining,
- 14:23Speaker 1: there's no such thing as a kill switch. You have
- 14:25Speaker 1: to be. Really, internet illiterate to think you could have
- 14:29Speaker 1: a kill switch. There's no possibility. There's no such thing
- 14:32Speaker 1: as a kill switch. So this is complicated. This is
- 14:37Speaker 1: going to take a lot of looking at. You know,
- 14:40Speaker 1: the ex-Trump official, Alina Haba, she'd been a lawyer. I
- 14:45Speaker 1: think she was Trump's lawyer at one point. She'd been
- 14:47Speaker 1: a prosecutor. She was in the Trump administration. She left,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and she's 42 now. She just got married. She found
- 14:57Speaker 1: a Turkish billionaire. He's only 29, a lot younger than her,
- 15:02Speaker 1: but he's a billionaire. Perfect. So she marries this billionaire.
- 15:07Speaker 1: They had their wedding over the weekend in the Waldorf Ballroom,
- 15:11Speaker 1: the new redesigned Waldorf Ballroom. I don't think it's as
- 15:15Speaker 1: nice as the old one. The old one was a
- 15:17Speaker 1: little classier. It was white and gold. This one is
- 15:20Speaker 1: silver and too shiny. But when they redid it and
- 15:23Speaker 1: reopened the Waldorf, they also really raised up the prices.
- 15:26Speaker 1: They jacked up the prices. That's why a lot of
- 15:29Speaker 1: the big charity galas that used to be in the Waldorf,
- 15:31Speaker 1: they're not rushing back. The prices are really high. So
- 15:34Speaker 1: she threw a wedding there with the Turkish billionaire. The cost,
- 15:39Speaker 1: because they had more flowers than you've ever seen. I mean,
- 15:41Speaker 1: it was what they did to transform the ballroom. The
- 15:44Speaker 1: cost is said to be $ 10 million for the wedding.
- 15:47Speaker 1: $ 10 million for the wedding. I hope this guy's not
- 15:50Speaker 1: going to be spending that much on all of his weddings.
- 15:52Speaker 1: That's a lot of money. But he's a billionaire. He
- 15:55Speaker 1: can afford it. Then they said, if you read the headline,
- 15:59Speaker 1: star-studded wedding. Well, I'm looking. Who's the stars? It's Kash Patel.
- 16:07Speaker 1: All right, nice guy, but not a big star. I mean,
- 16:10Speaker 1: you walk down the street with Kash Patel, people are going, oh,
- 16:13Speaker 1: it's Kash Patel. You know, most people don't... when he
- 16:17Speaker 1: comes to the room, you think it's the it guy.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I mean, most people don't get excited about cash. Who's
- 16:21Speaker 1: the other big stars. Attorney general, Todd Blanche. Very nice guy.
- 16:25Speaker 1: But again, uh, if he's walking down the street, nobody
- 16:29Speaker 1: knows who he, I don't, I wouldn't call that a big,
- 16:31Speaker 1: big star. Mike Tyson was there. Okay. I don't know
- 16:36Speaker 1: if that's a good omen for your marriage to have
- 16:38Speaker 1: Mike Tyson. I don't know if that's good luck having
- 16:41Speaker 1: Mike Tyson. And, uh, Margo Martin, she's one of President
- 16:46Speaker 1: Trump's executive assistants. Very nice woman. Hey, we'll get to
- 16:50Speaker 1: Saturday Night Live. It was pretty interesting. They did go
- 16:56Speaker 1: after Trump. They went after Natalie Harp. She's another Trump
- 16:58Speaker 1: executive assistant. The press has decided to go after her,
- 17:02Speaker 1: make her look like she's a crazy stalker because she's
- 17:06Speaker 1: always following him wherever she is. That's what you do
- 17:10Speaker 1: when a presidential executive assistant That's what they do. They're
- 17:15Speaker 1: supposed to be there at all times. Every president has
- 17:18Speaker 1: had a Natalie Harp. Every president has had a Natalie Harp. Now,
- 17:24Speaker 1: Natalie Harp's very good looking, young. I mean, a lot
- 17:27Speaker 1: of these presidential assistants look like Madeleine Albright. So this
- 17:31Speaker 1: is a little different. But she's a very nice woman,
- 17:34Speaker 1: a very fine woman, very good character. But they made
- 17:37Speaker 1: her look like a crazed stalker. Well, we'll get back.
- 17:39Speaker 1: We'll get to Saturday Night Live. Coming up, we've got
- 17:41Speaker 1: a lot to talk about. Don't forget, I'm here three
- 17:43Speaker 1: hours every day, nine to noon every day. Nine o'clock
- 17:47Speaker 1: till noon every day on 710WOR.
