- 0:27Hey everybody good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30Today we are talking about overthinking and the reason that
- 0:35we are talking about overthinking is we all do it.
- 0:38We all overthink everything. I had a conversation with a long
- 0:42term client of mine during the week, had a session and then got
- 0:48a bunch of poop emoji sent to me saying that he was overthinking.
- 0:53And I got on the phone with him and I said to him, OK, first of
- 0:56all stop making yourself wrong for overthinking.
- 0:58And he said how did you know I was making myself wrong?
- 1:00And I said because we all do it, we all make ourselves wrong for
- 1:03overthinking. But I this is a great reminder
- 1:06for everybody as you hear me say this, who is driving your bus
- 1:12when you are overthinking, You have got to know the emotion
- 1:15that is in the seat causing the overthinking.
- 1:19And he his funny answer to me is, well, the overthinker.
- 1:22And I'm like, yes, but who's sitting next to the overthinker?
- 1:25Who is the emotion that is sitting next to the overthinker?
- 1:29And in his case, it really comes down to anxiety gets in that
- 1:33seat, and then imagination, creativity is sitting right
- 1:37there and making it all worse, and the overwhelm that just
- 1:41shows up and overthinking that comes out of it all causes
- 1:46everything to go awry because now you're judging yourself.
- 1:49So now we've got the cast of characters at the front of the
- 1:51bus that could wipe anybody out. And as they're all sitting there
- 1:56and they're all talking and yakking it up, we all know how
- 1:59that feels. And it becomes a a daunting,
- 2:02debilitating state of paralysis. And you do go into analysis
- 2:07paralysis and then over you say, oh, I'm overthinking.
- 2:12Every single person does this, myself included.
- 2:15I was talking yesterday about reassessing the farm.
- 2:17And I can promise you, I can promise you that.
- 2:21The crazy part is I overthink it.
- 2:23I don't need to make it as complicated as it is, but in my
- 2:26head I'm painting the pictures. So my imagination is doing an
- 2:30excellent job painting pictures for me.
- 2:32Yet it's causing me to go down a rabbit hole and and take way too
- 2:38much time where I don't need to. And this is what we all do.
- 2:42We every single person overthinks.
- 2:45Now, real question is great. We all overthink.
- 2:47What do we do, Kim? How do we stop it?
- 2:49Well, the first thing you have to do is go back to basic bus
- 2:52rules and understand what is happening in those moments, What
- 2:55is happening when you're having those times and you're feeling
- 3:00that way. You've got to make sure you know
- 3:02who's at the front of the bus in those commanding seats, along
- 3:07with whatever the main driver is now.
- 3:09Sometimes when you're feeling, you know, like you're
- 3:12overthinking and you're overwhelmed, really, the main
- 3:16driver may be anxiety, it could be judgement, it could be
- 3:19overwhelmed, it could. There is a myriad of
- 3:21possibilities when it comes to emotions, but unless and until
- 3:24you put them on paper, you will never have the ability to
- 3:27command and switch those drivers.
- 3:29It's an absolute, necessary part of what we do.
- 3:32You have got to know the cast of characters on that front of the
- 3:36bus. So you pull those out and then
- 3:40you decide, OK, does this situation warrant having 567
- 3:46drivers? Sometimes.
- 3:47And the answer is no, it it never does.
- 3:50It never does. And then you have to pick and
- 3:53choose another driver. And sometimes that driver that
- 3:56you need in the moment is not a driver that you even consider
- 4:00going to regularly. So for me, when I get
- 4:04overthinking, especially about the farm and what I'm doing, I
- 4:07know I have this. Yes, apparently Raven knows it
- 4:12too. He's seen her show up here.
- 4:14I have this driver of, I don't want to even say just jokingly
- 4:19perfectionism, but really it kind of is.
- 4:22I refer to her as Martha on my bus because I obsess on Martha
- 4:25Stewart and what she does. And I love her farm and I think
- 4:29she's amazing in many ways. And I know there are a lot of
- 4:32people who are not fans of Martha Stewart, but I grew up
- 4:35reading her books, looking at her stuff and I just love the
- 4:40the the image, at least the image that she puts out there
- 4:42behind the scenes. Listen, I've never met the
- 4:45woman. I don't know who she is in
- 4:46person, so she may be dreadful because that's what happens a
- 4:49lot of times behind the scenes. People are dreadful.
- 4:53They put out a public persona. But I'm going to be the first
- 4:56one to say I've never. I know she's a perfectionist.
- 4:59I know she is a self-proclaimed perfectionist.
- 5:03And she says yes, I'm a pain in the ass.
- 5:06So I just love her for the fact that she confesses that because
- 5:09I feel that way sometimes too. So when Martha is driving my
- 5:13bus, I have this need to have things be a certain way and I
- 5:18will drive myself insane trying to attain that.
- 5:23And even now, I could sit here and I could look and I could
- 5:26say, OK, I am seeing where everything is on the farm and I
- 5:30want to change it. I want to change it because I'm
- 5:32overthinking it and I've actually gone so far as to say
- 5:36in my head, boy, I wish I just had a blank slate and start all
- 5:38over again. What?
- 5:40How is that even possible? Why would I even go there after
- 5:43everything that we've done? Well, it's because of that
- 5:46nature of overthinking. So just be aware that it's
- 5:49there, debrief it, switch the drivers.
- 5:52Be very careful with who you leave driving because it is one
- 5:56of those things that is potentially very, very dangerous
- 6:00when you leave it in the seat too long because the
- 6:03overthinking leads to analysis paralysis and then you're not
- 6:06moving at all. OK, my friends, I hope you have
- 6:09a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:11Bye.
