Speaker 3: high school football with Tom Bragg and Chris Lawrence. Chris
• 1:53
Speaker 3: happy early birthday. Hey you thank you very much, And
• 1:56
Speaker 3: I would be remiss if I also did not wish
• 1:58
Speaker 3: my wife Ruthanne a happy anniversary thirty three years she's
• 2:02
Speaker 3: had this. Yeah, my condolences. Then congratulations to you all right, Chris,
• 2:10
Speaker 3: who you got tonight? We have the age old rivalry
• 2:13
Speaker 3: of South Charleston on the Hill at GDB tonight. That
• 2:17
Speaker 3: one has been a little one sided for several years now.
• 2:20
Speaker 3: But Donny May is back at South Charleston and I
• 2:23
Speaker 3: talked to him this week. Feels like he is beginning
• 2:25
Speaker 3: a rebuilding job there. It's a work in progress.
• 2:28
Speaker 5: And they got their you know, they got the monkey
• 2:30
Speaker 5: off their back with by winning their opener against Ripley
• 2:33
Speaker 5: and come from behind fashion run there at the end.
• 2:35
Speaker 5: They stumbled last week and struggled a lot with Winfield,
• 2:39
Speaker 5: but he feels like, you know, you play the games
• 2:42
Speaker 5: and you improve every week. So meanwhile, Steve Edwards Junior's
• 2:45
Speaker 5: got a team that he feels like is really really solid,
• 2:48
Speaker 5: and they even though they are young, they've got some
• 2:51
Speaker 5: guys that have some experience and some talent, and they
• 2:56
Speaker 5: they really feel like that they've got an opportunity to
• 2:58
Speaker 5: go pretty deep this year in the playoff. If everything
• 3:01
Speaker 5: works out and everybody stays healthy, they've got a solid
• 3:04
Speaker 5: team there at GW.
• 3:05
Speaker 3: All right, so you guys will have the You and
• 3:06
Speaker 3: Aaron Parker have the call to night. We will be
• 3:08
Speaker 3: on here at seven o'clock. Kickoffs at seven point thirty
• 3:11
Speaker 3: from Steve Edwards Senior Field upon the Hill. All right,
• 3:13
Speaker 3: what you got on West Virginia Outdoors tomorrow? Well, I
• 3:15
Speaker 3: know that this weekend is the West Virginia Trappers Association
• 3:19
Speaker 3: State Convention at Glenville, so I will have somebody from
• 3:23
Speaker 3: the Trappers convention on to talk a little bit about
• 3:25
Speaker 3: what they're doing. All right, that's the plan, all right,
• 3:28
Speaker 3: mister Lawrence. And what number of birthday is this for you?
• 3:31
  Speaker 1: On Sunday?
• 3:32
Speaker 3: I will be fifty seven, fifty seven. Yes, you don't
• 3:36
Speaker 3: look a day over fifty six. Yeah, I don't feel
• 3:38
Speaker 3: a day over eighty. So happy birthday by Fred. All
• 3:42
Speaker 3: right'll be listening to the game to night and listening
• 3:43
Speaker 3: tomorrow morning. Tom Bragg is here, you got Hoover tonight
• 3:47
Speaker 3: as you do over on KWS. And Matt Murphy not
• 3:49
Speaker 3: here this week, so it'll be you and Daniel Woods.
• 3:52
Speaker 3: You're doing play by play. Daniel will be doing color,
• 3:55
Speaker 3: which is the opposite of what we do on State
• 3:57
Speaker 3: on Saturday afternoons on a beat, right, yes, all right, So, oh,
• 4:00
  Speaker 3: what's the Husky's doing tonight.
• 4:02
Speaker 6: Well, the Husky's got a road trip. They got to
• 4:04
Speaker 6: go down to Hamlin take on Lincoln County. It's a
• 4:07
Speaker 6: series that hasn't happened a whole lot in the past.
• 4:09
Speaker 6: Team's only played two times ever. And I went and
• 4:12
Speaker 6: dug into the historical results Dave and went to check.
• 4:16
Speaker 6: I was like, well, this Hoover played the teams that
• 4:17
Speaker 6: consolidated to be Lincoln zero games against Hamlin, Duval, Heart's
• 4:21
Speaker 6: guy in Valley, so only the third meeting. I'm gonna
• 4:24
Speaker 6: correct you. One thing, Hearts is not part of Lincoln County,
• 4:26
Speaker 6: was it not you? No, Heart's Hearts was with Chapmanville Regional. Okay,
• 4:31
Speaker 6: that's why they got the regional.
• 4:33
Speaker 3: But I get the basic guy.
• 4:34
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 4:35
Speaker 3: It's not very often that I know something that you don't.
• 4:37
Speaker 3: That's why I had to throw it out. You got
• 4:38
Speaker 3: me on that one.
• 4:40
Speaker 6: But either way, you know, Hoover's coming off a dramatic
• 4:44
Speaker 6: win last week against Nitro. The Husky's won fifteen to fourteen.
• 4:48
Speaker 6: When we were here last week, we said, you know,
• 4:50
Speaker 6: last year we got this great overtime game that really
• 4:53
Speaker 6: came down to the wire. It was a defensive struggle
• 4:55
Speaker 6: between two offensive teams. You hope you get a game
• 4:57
Speaker 6: even kind of that good. I think it might have surpassed.
• 4:59
Speaker 6: It was just great back and forth game and Hoover
• 5:03
Speaker 6: took Nitro's best shot, and I thought they lived to
• 5:05
Speaker 6: fight another day. They weren't perfect. There were some sloppy things.
• 5:09
Speaker 6: There was some trouble on the extra points. They missed
• 5:12
Speaker 6: an extra point because of a bad snap, and then
• 5:13
Speaker 6: they had to go for two the next time they scored,
• 5:15
Speaker 6: and there was a bad snap on that too, and
• 5:17
Speaker 6: they ended up missing it and really had to drive late.
• 5:21
Speaker 6: They needed an interception late in that game and then
• 5:24
Speaker 6: drove and kicked field goal with in the last couple
• 5:26
Speaker 6: of seconds. But it was a fantastic game between Hoover
• 5:28
Speaker 6: and Nitro. I expect Hoover to probably be able to
• 5:32
Speaker 6: stretch its stretch its legs out a little bit this week.
• 5:35
Speaker 6: I think they would probably be considered pretty heavy favorites
• 5:37
Speaker 6: going down to Lincoln County hasn't been probably the season
• 5:40
Speaker 6: the Panthers fans have wanted down in Handles struggled there, Yeah,
• 5:43
Speaker 6: they've struggled there historically. It seems like maybe things they
• 5:46
Speaker 6: seem a little better than they have been in the past,
• 5:48
Speaker 6: but still that schedule is tough. They've played some really
• 5:50
Speaker 6: good teams so far, and they've got a really good
• 5:52
Speaker 6: one coming into town tonight with the Huskies. Should be
• 5:55
Speaker 6: an interesting game for the Huskies. We'll get to see,
• 5:57
Speaker 6: you'd think if it goes the way that a lot
• 5:59
Speaker 6: of people think it will, that you get to see
• 6:01
Speaker 6: some of that depth. Maybe get some time out on
• 6:03
Speaker 6: the field, some younger guys that having gotten to play
• 6:05
Speaker 6: a whole lot so far, maybe get on the field,
• 6:07
Speaker 6: make some play. See what what kind of backups and
• 6:09
Speaker 6: third strings guys Joey Fields has out now field.
• 6:12
Speaker 3: All right, and of course we'll have coverage on KWS
• 6:15
Speaker 3: tonight ninety six point one Superstar Country with you and
• 6:17
Speaker 3: Daniel Woods, then you and mister Woods tomorrow with State.
• 6:20
Speaker 3: What State got this week?
• 6:21
Speaker 6: State is also on the road, so we make the
• 6:22
Speaker 6: long trip to Hamlin tonight, we come back tomorrow morning.
• 6:24
Speaker 6: We're gonna get up and go to Bucanon. State's at
• 6:26
Speaker 6: West Virginia Wesley and tomorrow you know the Bobcats.
• 6:29
  Speaker 3: It's been rough.
• 6:30
Speaker 6: They one of the worst teams in the NEC the
• 6:32
Speaker 6: last few years. Statistically you look at it, they're near
• 6:34
Speaker 6: the bottom in Division two and in a lot of things.
• 6:37
Speaker 6: State still kind of trying to figure itself out. Got
• 6:40
Speaker 6: a big win two weeks ago against Barton College. I
• 6:42
Speaker 6: think that was a good shot in the arm for
• 6:43
Speaker 6: their confidence, and then they had an off week last
• 6:45
Speaker 6: week to kind of figure things out going into the
• 6:47
Speaker 6: NEC portion of their schedule this week, So should be
• 6:50
Speaker 6: one to keep an eye on for the Yellowjackets, probably
• 6:52
Speaker 6: going up there hoping to come back with a win.
• 6:54
Speaker 6: They've won the last couple in this series. We'll see
• 6:56
Speaker 6: how they do. All right, We'll be listening tonight and tomorrow.
• 6:59
Speaker 6: Appreciate it man, thanks to and again our sister station,
• 7:01
Speaker 6: the Beats, is the home for West Virginia State football.
• 7:04
Speaker 6: And again they'll make that trip off to Winsley and tomorrow.
• 7:07

  Speaker 3: to the show.
• 7:43
Speaker 8: Good morning, It's finally Friday.
• 7:46
Speaker 3: It is indeed now we know what we do. Want
• 7:48
Speaker 3: to remind you that as always, our picture of our
• 7:51
Speaker 3: pet is posted at Dave Allen Radio and the WCHS
• 7:55
Speaker 3: Network on Facebook and also over on x on aunt
• 7:59
Speaker 3: Dave tell us about Ruby.
• 8:04
Speaker 8: Ruby is a senior pet. She's about six ish five
• 8:08
Speaker 8: to six this years old. She's a very sweet dream
• 8:12
Speaker 8: on the leash. If you're looking for a dog to
• 8:14
Speaker 8: just simply hang out with you and not pull you
• 8:17
Speaker 8: everywhere on the leash, doesn't want to go on hikes
• 8:20
Speaker 8: things like that. Ruby is the girl for you. She
• 8:23
Speaker 8: got spayed yesterday, so she is ready to roll if
• 8:25
Speaker 8: you do decide to adopt. She's fully vaccinated, great with
• 8:29
Speaker 8: calm dogs, good with kids, and she's the perfect what
• 8:33
Speaker 8: I would call medium sized dog. She kind of looks
• 8:36
Speaker 8: like a beagle. She's about twenty seven.
• 8:38
Speaker 3: Pounds, That's what I'm The first thing I noticed when
• 8:40
Speaker 3: you sent me the picture last night, does that dog's
• 8:42
Speaker 3: definitely got some beagle in it. There's no doubt about it.
• 8:45
Speaker 3: And it sounds like if you want a dog that's
• 8:46
Speaker 3: going to be, I mean, from what you're telling me,
• 8:48
Speaker 3: low maintenance, this will be the dog for you. Because
• 8:51
Speaker 3: a little bit, a little bit older, very very sweet
• 8:54
Speaker 3: dog from what you said to around twenty seven pounds,
• 8:56
Speaker 3: already spade, already vaxed, and great with kids and other dogs.
• 9:00
Speaker 3: Just just an all around great dog.
• 9:02
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 9:03
Speaker 8: Absolutely, I've been on a hound kick for the past
• 9:05
Speaker 8: few weeks, it seems. But Ruby is a great, low
• 9:08
Speaker 8: maintenance dog and I think would be perfect for any
• 9:11
Speaker 8: time any first time dog owners out there.
• 9:13
Speaker 3: All right, what else is going on to shelter?
• 9:16
  Speaker 9: Uh?
• 9:16
Speaker 3: What? What's what's the needs? Let's start there. We always
• 9:19
Speaker 3: ask you about the needs. What's the needs?
• 9:21
Speaker 8: The needs are puppy chow, wet dog food, and bleach
• 9:26
Speaker 8: and paper cowls as far as cleaning supplies go. So
• 9:29
Speaker 8: those are the big ones right now. Of course, volunteers
• 9:32
Speaker 8: are always needed, and newspaper and blankets as always, but
• 9:37
Speaker 8: big ones are the puppy chow, the bleach, paper towls,
• 9:40
Speaker 8: and wet dog food.
• 9:41
Speaker 3: All right, we have a text here for you. You know,
• 9:43
Speaker 3: you always you're popular. We always have questions for you. Okay.
• 9:46
Speaker 3: One was how was the Saint Albans kitten doing.
• 9:50
Speaker 8: Much better? I can't release too many details.
• 9:54
Speaker 3: Again because it's our animal cruelty case.
• 9:56
Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, active ongoing investigation wants the investigation is over
• 10:00
Speaker 8: with us, I'll be happy to share all the details.
• 10:02
Speaker 8: But the kitten is stable, doing much better, and you know,
• 10:07
Speaker 8: is expected to live a long, happy life. The only
• 10:10
Speaker 8: way you can tell something even happened is it does
• 10:13
Speaker 8: have kind of a little head tilt, but the kitten
• 10:16
Speaker 8: is expected to make a full recovery and live a
• 10:19
Speaker 8: normal life besides that headkilt.
• 10:21
Speaker 3: All right, that's good. And the other question was any
• 10:23
Speaker 3: updates on how the kitten that was thrown off the
• 10:24
Speaker 3: Patrick's treet bridge several weeks ago, has been doing.
• 10:27
Speaker 8: You know, we never got that kitten in the shelter.
• 10:30
Speaker 8: We were fully prepared to receive it and treat it.
• 10:33
Speaker 8: So I'm just going to assume that's the finders, you know,
• 10:37
Speaker 8: found a new home for that kitten. Nothing was wrong
• 10:39
Speaker 8: with it, best case scenario, But we never got that kitten.
• 10:43
Speaker 8: So I can't I can't speak on any updates on that,
• 10:46
Speaker 8: but I can be hopeful.
• 10:47
Speaker 3: Another text here, someone was wanted to know if you
• 10:49
Speaker 3: have an Amazon wish list. I don't think this is
• 10:52
Speaker 3: you personally, but you probably got one. But let's talk
• 10:54
Speaker 3: about the shelter. They have an Amazon wish.
• 10:56
Speaker 8: List, so we do have an Amazon wish list. We
• 11:00
Speaker 8: also have a Chewy wish list. So if you hop
• 11:03
Speaker 8: into the comments on some of our most recent Facebook posts,
• 11:06
Speaker 8: there is a giant comment from us that always says
• 11:09
Speaker 8: info and links, so you can see all the links
• 11:12
Speaker 8: to all of our wish lists wherever you prefer to shop.
• 11:16
Speaker 8: All of those are in the comments on our Facebook posts.
• 11:19
Speaker 3: All right, are you out and about anywhere this weekend?
• 11:22
Speaker 8: This weekend? We are not, so we're gonna be inside
• 11:26
Speaker 8: the shelter. We do have an adoption special going on
• 11:28
Speaker 8: this weekend. With the backyard brawl and all that, we've
• 11:32
Speaker 8: decided to go with a twenty four dollars adoption special
• 11:36
Speaker 8: for adult dogs and puppies. The cats are sitting this
• 11:39
Speaker 8: one out just because the cats are having such an
• 11:41
Speaker 8: easy time finding homes right now. We wanted to give
• 11:44
Speaker 8: the dogs and puppies a leg up on that. But
• 11:47
Speaker 8: you know, twenty four dollars to adopt any doggar puppy
• 11:49
  Speaker 8: in our care.
• 11:50
Speaker 3: All right, sounds good. We will talk to you again
• 11:53
Speaker 3: next week. Thanks a lot, thank you.
• 11:55
Speaker 10: Have a good one you as well.
• 11:56
Speaker 3: And Ruby is our not me, please spend of the week.
• 11:59
Speaker 3: She is is about six years old, around twenty seven pounds.
• 12:02
Speaker 3: Spade up the date on vaccines, great with calm dogs
• 12:06
Speaker 3: and kids. So if you're looking for an older dog again,
• 12:08
Speaker 3: a low maintenance dog, this would be the dog for you.

• 14:46
Speaker 3: You were telling me that you saw them.
• 14:48
  Speaker 2: It's really exciting.
• 14:49
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 14:49
Speaker 13: I've took my kids to see it. My adult kids
• 14:52
Speaker 13: Sammy's twenty one and j just twenty three, took them

Speaker 13: do your homework, study, study. It's a fantastic show.
• 15:11
Speaker 3: All right again. It'll be Wednesday night. We'll talk to
• 15:13
Speaker 3: one of the cast members from that Kevin up a
• 15:14
Speaker 3: little bit later on. All right, I do want to
• 15:16
Speaker 3: get into the regarded numbers. You had the press event yesterday,
• 15:19
Speaker 3: but before we get to that Wednesday night into Thursday morning,
• 15:23
Speaker 3: I guess it was not only within the city of Charleston,
• 15:26
Speaker 3: but in some of the outlying areas as well, there
• 15:28
Speaker 3: was a rash of what was it, thirty five drug overdoses.
• 15:32
Speaker 13: That's right, that we know, and I always want to
• 15:34
Speaker 13: preface it by saying that, you know, we know what
• 15:37
Speaker 13: we know when we know it. And so it was
• 15:40
Speaker 13: a really challenging night, not just for our CFD, our
• 15:45
Speaker 13: Charleston Fire Department in EMS who were making a lot
• 15:48
Speaker 13: of those responses, our County Emergency Services as well, our
• 15:52
Speaker 13: care team in the City of Charleston making sure they
• 15:55
Speaker 13: could get to as many people as possible, and then
• 15:57
Speaker 13: of course our Charleston Police Department. You know, I attribute
• 16:01
Speaker 13: the non fatal that we know of, non fatal overdise
• 16:06
Speaker 13: is overdoses to our rapid response.
• 16:08
  Speaker 14: You know.
• 16:09
Speaker 13: Unfortunately, we here in Appalachian all across the Mountain state
• 16:13
Speaker 13: are getting really good at that rapid response. And so
• 16:17
Speaker 13: while it was at least in the time that I
• 16:21
Speaker 13: have been here one of the worst nights that we've
• 16:23
Speaker 13: ever had. And so kudos to our entire team. They
• 16:27
Speaker 13: work from dusk to dawn. We are in constant communication
• 16:30
Speaker 13: and so that's what we should be doing going out,
• 16:32
Speaker 13: and that is the first line of attack that we
• 16:36
Speaker 13: have save as many lives.
• 16:37
Speaker 2: But let me be perfectly clear.
• 16:40
Speaker 13: If you are in the city of Charleston peddling this
• 16:44
Speaker 13: poison to our residents, to our neighbors, to our family members,
• 16:48
Speaker 13: you will be cut.
• 16:49
Speaker 2: You will be held accountable. We're coming for you.
• 16:53
Speaker 3: And you know, drugs have been around since mellion of time.
• 16:57
Speaker 3: We all know that of some swords, people been get
• 16:59
Speaker 3: hind But what we're seeing out there now, not just
• 17:02
Speaker 3: in Charleston but all across the country, really is not this.
• 17:06
Speaker 3: None of them are good, don't get me wrong now,
• 17:08
Speaker 3: but this is not what we saw. This is the
• 17:11
Speaker 3: the smallest percentage can kill you. And it's also putting
• 17:17
Speaker 3: the thesponders in rest. I mean, you hear stories of
• 17:21
Speaker 3: the news all the time about first responders who came
• 17:23
Speaker 3: in contact with a particle like a piece of sugar,
• 17:26
Speaker 3: you know, rice or something and are hospitalized. I mean,
• 17:29
Speaker 3: this is a different.
• 17:30
Speaker 13: Brain they do it, and they do it disgusto because
• 17:32
Speaker 13: they have a you know, it is who they are.
• 17:36
Speaker 13: If you are in public service, we're here to serve
• 17:39
Speaker 13: and that's what you do. You run and you help people,
• 17:42
Speaker 13: and that's what they do. But also let me be clear,
• 17:44
Speaker 13: as you know, you can have a couple of different
• 17:46
Speaker 13: trains running on different tracks today, and so what the
• 17:50
Speaker 13: public should feel confident about is we have lots of
• 17:53
Speaker 13: different trains running on lots of different tracks.
• 17:56
Speaker 2: The first response is.
• 17:57
Speaker 13: Always saved lives, Save lives, but it is also secondary
• 18:01
Speaker 13: collect as much information as you possibly can in that process.
• 18:06
Speaker 2: We've done an outstanding job of doing this.
• 18:08
Speaker 13: There is there is for good reason why we have
• 18:12
Speaker 13: a very we have a low crime rate and a
• 18:14
Speaker 13: very high solve rate because our folks are always investigating
• 18:17
Speaker 13: and always looking. And I feel confident that we're going
• 18:22
Speaker 13: to secure and take off the streets some of the
• 18:26
Speaker 13: drugs that are being pushed around. But you're absolutely right.
• 18:29
Speaker 13: I mean the type of drugs and what the drugs
• 18:32
Speaker 13: are being lace with. We believe you know, xylazine. You
• 18:36
Speaker 13: see that all across the country right now, and so
• 18:40
Speaker 13: you know, I saw a lot of folks out on
• 18:41
Speaker 13: social media. What we want to make sure that we
• 18:44
Speaker 13: do is provide clear and accurate information that is done
• 18:50
Speaker 13: in a responsible pray because you know, while I love
• 18:56
Speaker 13: watching everybody's kids, you know, winning the football game, and
• 18:59
Speaker 13: first day pictures and weddings and social media also can
• 19:02
Speaker 13: take us down rabbit holes, and people just in the
• 19:05
Speaker 13: light of or in the absence of information, people.
• 19:08
Speaker 2: Like to make it up. You know this.
• 19:10
Speaker 13: You've been in this business for a really long period
• 19:12
Speaker 13: of time, so sooner rather than later, we'll have more
• 19:15
Speaker 13: to share. But please know that we have lots of
• 19:18
Speaker 13: different trains on lots of different tracks, and they've been
• 19:21
Speaker 13: running for a while.
• 19:23
Speaker 3: All right, let's transition into the At a press event
• 19:27
Speaker 3: yesterday down a slight pasa and you don't let me forget.
• 19:31
Speaker 3: I got to mention Adam Harris needs me to mention
• 19:34
Speaker 3: something too about wrestling. I'll do that before I'll do that. Well,
• 19:37
Speaker 3: they got the big event. I'll talk about that. I'll
• 19:39
Speaker 3: talk about that before we close. But the regarded numbers, yeah.
• 19:43
Speaker 13: It was absolutely incredible and quite frankly, you know, somebody
• 19:46
Speaker 13: asked me yesterday did you expect them to go up
• 19:49
  Speaker 13: this year?
• 19:50
Speaker 2: You know, mother nature. She messes with us.
• 19:52
Speaker 13: As I like to say, sometimes we're in control of
• 19:55
Speaker 13: a lot, planning and working together with our city teams
• 20:00
Speaker 13: on this huge, huge event. But mother and nature can
• 20:04
Speaker 13: mess things up for us. But she and she tried to.
• 20:06
Speaker 13: I mean, the temperatures got up to ninety but we
• 20:09
Speaker 13: had forty over forty million dollars forty point one million
• 20:13
Speaker 13: dollars in economic impact. You know, two hundred and twenty
• 20:18
Speaker 13: five thousand people. I say all the time when I
• 20:21
Speaker 13: started back to regard of many years ago, it's kind
• 20:23
Speaker 13: of like a birthday party. You send out invitations and
• 20:25
Speaker 13: you go, I hope people are gonna come. Gosh you
• 20:28
Speaker 13: is are they? And they did. It's like holding a
• 20:31
Speaker 13: party for two hundred and twenty five thousand people. But
• 20:34
Speaker 13: let me also be clear about this because someone said, oh,
• 20:37
Speaker 13: just you know, it's just a big party.
• 20:39
Speaker 2: What does it do? What does it do?
• 20:41
  Speaker 13: I'm a daughter of a small business owner. I'll tell
• 20:43
Speaker 13: you what events like this do. My job is mayors
• 20:45
Speaker 13: to get more people in front of your shop. But
• 20:47
Speaker 13: your job to get them in the shop. Whatever you're selling,
• 20:50
Speaker 13: whatever your marketing is, that's not my job. That's your job.
• 20:52
Speaker 13: Dave and so what it did for our businesses and
• 20:55
Speaker 13: downtown restaurants and shops. By the way, I don't get
• 20:59
Speaker 13: this for million. I want everybody to understand that I
• 21:02
Speaker 13: don't get it. It goes to support local businesses. That
• 21:05
Speaker 13: is what is generated from this event that we hold.
• 21:10
Speaker 13: You know, if it is not the largest in the state,
• 21:12
Speaker 13: it is quickly becoming the largest event in the state
• 21:15
Speaker 13: of West Virginia. What is significant about the numbers that
• 21:19
Speaker 13: we saw were twenty six percent of the attendees we're
• 21:24
Speaker 13: from a fifty mile radius and beyond, and those you know,
• 21:29
Speaker 13: seventy eight percent of visitors.
• 21:30
Speaker 2: Were from out of state.
• 21:32
Speaker 13: It's a mayor's dream, Dave, to have people come from
• 21:35
Speaker 13: outside and to spend the night with us.
• 21:38
Speaker 2: Lots of folks come in for concerts. Right, you're here
• 21:40
  Speaker 2: for a night.
• 21:41
Speaker 13: You may live closed, you live within a you know,
• 21:43
Speaker 13: thirty minute, you know, spend the night at hotel, Dave,
• 21:45
Speaker 13: you're going to probably back home, get somebody to eat,
• 21:47
Speaker 13: and you're going If you are spending the night in
• 21:49
Speaker 13: a hotel, that's when we see real revenue generated because
• 21:52
Speaker 13: you're getting supper, you're getting coffee. Somebody sees the shop,
• 21:56
Speaker 13: they want to go get coffee and breakfast. So it
• 21:59
Speaker 13: is significent, wildly significant that I mentioned that USA Cycling
• 22:04
Speaker 13: is not just a bike race. Regatta is not just concerts.
• 22:08
Speaker 13: It is true economic impact. And you know I talk
• 22:12
Speaker 13: a lot about outside influence. Businesses use the Regatta as
• 22:17
Speaker 13: a recruiting tool they do. I was on the stage
• 22:21
Speaker 13: at the West Virginia Business Summit a couple of weeks
• 22:24
Speaker 13: ago with Mayor Patrick Farrell of Huntington and Mayor Tommy
• 22:27
Speaker 13: Joyce of Pergersberg, who you know, both of those men,
• 22:30
Speaker 13: and we talked about promoting your city and what you're
• 22:33
Speaker 13: doing within your city that not only supports the quality
• 22:37
Speaker 13: of life that you have here and lots of things
• 22:40
Speaker 13: to see and do, but also bringing business people in.
• 22:45
Speaker 13: It is incredibly important for us to do this. We
• 22:48
Speaker 13: had an engineering firm that looked at us. They came
• 22:51
Speaker 13: to Charleston put their headquarters here, but they looked at us.
• 22:54
Speaker 13: And when I was talking to their recruit meant director coordinator,
• 22:58
Speaker 13: I said to him, when you're in viewing these these engineers,
• 23:02
Speaker 13: what what do they want out of a city? And
• 23:05
Speaker 13: he said to me, hand to the heavens. They we
• 23:08
Speaker 13: took him down on Friday Mayor. They loved the concerts,
• 23:11
Speaker 13: and they liked that park you have. You were doing
• 23:14
Speaker 13: like a little festival there and boy oh boy, Brewers
• 23:17
Speaker 13: Row and that lots of things to see and do.
• 23:20
Speaker 13: It is the number one travel motivator to get people
• 23:24
Speaker 13: out of your house downtown on the west side of
• 23:26
Speaker 13: the east end of South Hills. Lots of things to
• 23:28
Speaker 13: see and do. Number one travel motivator if you live
• 23:31
Speaker 13: in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio to come here. By the way,
• 23:36
Speaker 13: who came to the regatta. West Virginia is always going
• 23:39
Speaker 13: to be overall our number one for anything that we do.
• 23:42
Speaker 13: But this is the city of origin of people who
• 23:45
Speaker 13: came here. Pittsburgh, Black Beckley, Bluefield, Charleston, South Carolina, the
• 23:52
Speaker 13: other Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, Washington, d C. Clarksburg, Western Columbus, Roanoke,
• 23:57
Speaker 13: and Charlotte, North Carolina.
• 23:59
Speaker 2: That's top ten. I'll take that any day of the week.
• 24:03
Speaker 13: So when people say, well, my daughter she's going to
• 24:05
Speaker 13: North Carolina see a concert, good, I'm glad we support
• 24:09
Speaker 13: traveling tourism. As a former tourism commissioner, I can tell
• 24:12
Speaker 13: you this, We're not the we're the fun people because
• 24:14
Speaker 13: we look like the fun people, but we're the money people,
• 24:17
Speaker 13: and so we have a lot to offer in the
• 24:19
Speaker 13: state of West Virginia. Regatta is just one thing that
• 24:22
Speaker 13: we do, but it's quickly it has quickly become one
• 24:26
Speaker 13: of the largest things.
• 24:27
Speaker 3: Give us the thumbnail on how you arrive at these things,
• 24:31
Speaker 3: I mean, like where they come from and and because
• 24:34
Speaker 3: that's that's what you know. People say, well, how do
• 24:36
Speaker 3: they get these numbers? And we don't need to get
• 24:38
Speaker 3: too technical, but exactly and out of Tim Brady with
• 24:41
Speaker 3: the CVB is also involved in this. How do you
• 24:45
Speaker 3: how do you know they came from Pittsburgh?
• 24:46
Speaker 13: Yeah, you we use by the way, we use companies
• 24:50
Speaker 13: that track and monitor by the way, let me go backwards,
• 24:54
Speaker 13: hotel receipts, restaurants, shops.
• 24:58
  Speaker 7: You know.
• 24:58
Speaker 13: People say, do you just take picture of the crowd? No,
• 25:01
Speaker 13: we absolutely, I mean we do that. Yeah, don't get
• 25:04
Speaker 13: me wrong, because I'd like to know for a variety
• 25:06
Speaker 13: of different reasons. And so we do that. But we
• 25:09
Speaker 13: use destination operating systems. There's tools in the industry. Zartico
• 25:14
Speaker 13: is the company that we use, although there are lots
• 25:16
Speaker 13: of other companies and economic impact calculators. When you put
• 25:21
Speaker 13: in all of the things that we know, the revenue
• 25:25
Speaker 13: that is generated from hotels and restaurants and shops, how
• 25:29
Speaker 13: long they stay there, and oh, by the way, if
• 25:31
Speaker 13: you don't know, everybody has in their hand, yeah, this
• 25:34
Speaker 13: little device that also tracks movement. It's a huge part
• 25:39
Speaker 13: of it as well. So it's not one system or
• 25:43
Speaker 13: one thing. It's a variety of different things that we measure.
• 25:45
Speaker 13: So when people say, oh, this is made up, I
• 25:47
Speaker 13: can promise you it's not. We rely on accurate and
• 25:51
Speaker 13: thorough factual information in what we do. Because, by the way,
• 25:57
Speaker 13: this isn't this isn't trend business. That show business is
• 26:00
Speaker 13: a very serious event. We have a great time. We
• 26:03
Speaker 13: bring people here, but it's a lot of heavy lifting.
• 26:06
Speaker 13: And I will say this, as I said to the
• 26:08
Speaker 13: folks who were on stage with me, the most important
• 26:10
Speaker 13: people in the Charleston cern Roe Regatta are our employees
• 26:14
Speaker 13: of the City of Charlestown police, fire ams. By the way,
• 26:17
Speaker 13: the people who do the heavy lifting refuse your refuse team,
• 26:21
Speaker 13: By golly, they work so hard. You should see how
• 26:24
Speaker 13: hard Steven works. I don't go to bed at regatta
• 26:26
Speaker 13: nights sometimes till two three in the morning before him
• 26:30
Speaker 13: and I'm watching him and I'm waving to him as
• 26:32
Speaker 13: I'm leaving, and he's still there at two am. It's streets,
• 26:36
  Speaker 13: it's traffic, it's parking.
• 26:38
  Speaker 9: Rex.
• 26:39
Speaker 13: The thing that we saw from Regatta more than ever before.
• 26:42
Speaker 13: When we did our survey families, families, families, families. I
• 26:46
Speaker 13: was elbowed up to a family that was from Pittsburgh
• 26:49
Speaker 13: and they said, now.
• 26:50
Speaker 2: Is all this free right here in this area?
• 26:53
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 26:53
  Speaker 7: Free?
• 26:54
Speaker 2: Do you have to buy tickets to go on the
• 26:56
Speaker 2: bull ride or no?
• 26:57
  Speaker 7: Free?
• 26:58
Speaker 2: How about the face make no free? How about to
• 27:00
Speaker 2: do the class with the aerial artists? No free.
• 27:03
Speaker 13: It's because of our sponsors and first and foremost in
• 27:05
Speaker 13: Cove Boy, oh boy, they make it happen in West
• 27:08
Speaker 13: Banco and W Thomas, the AMC and USI and just
• 27:14
Speaker 13: we couldn't do it without them because it is a
• 27:16
Speaker 13: big ticket item. It's a big ticket they private companies
• 27:20
Speaker 13: have the bulk of and these are, by the way,
• 27:23
Speaker 13: West Virginia companies, Dave. These are West Virginia guys and
• 27:26
Speaker 13: girls that put their money into this. So when people say, oh,
• 27:31
Speaker 13: it's a waste of money, your businesses are pretty smart businesses.
• 27:34
Speaker 13: They know they have limited budgets, and they know where
• 27:37
Speaker 13: they're going to spend their marketing and advertising and recruitment dollars,
• 27:41
Speaker 13: and they put it into us, and for good reason,
• 27:43
Speaker 13: because our footprint and you can look at the cities
• 27:46
Speaker 13: that we market to is monumental.
• 27:48
  Speaker 15: Let me.
• 27:48
Speaker 3: I got a couple quick text for one that says,
• 27:50
Speaker 3: have you thought about getting hotels, restaurants, the ballpark, play center,
• 27:53

• 28:11
Speaker 13: structural engineers, I should say, to come in and look
• 28:14
Speaker 13: at the structural integrity. It is my hope, cross your fingers.
• 28:18
Speaker 13: They had a couple of blips in their system and
• 28:21
Speaker 13: couldn't get the report to us when we felt like
• 28:24
Speaker 13: it was coming to us so sooner rather than later.
• 28:27
Speaker 13: What we wanted to do was we wanted to see
• 28:30
Speaker 13: what what can be salvaged, what can't be and then
• 28:33
Speaker 13: what the cost of it is going to be either
• 28:36
Speaker 13: to build, to fix up, or to rebuild.
• 28:40
Speaker 2: But we had to do the structural engineering report first.
• 28:43
  Speaker 2: That idea.
• 28:45
Speaker 3: All right, So many things going on this weekend. I

Speaker 2: Yes, And I'm going to do I.
• 33:02
Speaker 19: I have to get into a Charleston Light Opera Guild
• 33:06
Speaker 19: production before Missus Pascinetti retires. I hope she doesn't retire
• 33:11
Speaker 19: anytime soon. Delaney's been in many and I'm a theater mom.
• 33:16
Speaker 19: I always thought i'd be a sports mom. Wanted to
• 33:18
Speaker 19: be a sports mom, but a theater mom is so
• 33:22
  Speaker 19: much more interesting.
• 33:23
Speaker 2: And I am going to be in a play.
• 33:26
Speaker 19: I just told myself this and Suemanahan and I she's
• 33:29
  Speaker 19: a theater mother.
• 33:30
Speaker 2: Also, you know, the the best.
• 33:32

• 33:35
Speaker 19: the next productions of Charles Light Opera Guild. So we
• 33:39
Speaker 19: say we're gonna do it. So I'm gonna do it.
• 33:41
  Speaker 19: I can't sing worth a lick, but I have to
• 33:44
Speaker 19: be in one before Missus Passinetti.
• 33:47
Speaker 2: She's just amazing. You have you do you know who
• 33:50
  Speaker 2: she met?
• 33:52
Speaker 19: Oh my gosh, in some regards.
• 33:55
Speaker 2: She reminds me of my mother, and Delaney.
• 33:59
Speaker 19: Will say that too, but she's She's why those productions
• 34:04
Speaker 19: are just so good. National you wait, Anastasia's coming up
• 34:08
Speaker 19: at the Clay Center, so people need to go see it.
• 34:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, people also need to clean up. We've got fall
• 34:15
  Speaker 3: cleanups coming out.
• 34:16
Speaker 2: That was one of the things I mentioned. Yeah at
• 34:19
Speaker 2: the Old it's tomorrow.
• 34:20
Speaker 3: This is the first one.
• 34:21
Speaker 19: Right, yes, no, the first fall one, yea, yeah, yeah, yeah,
• 34:25
Speaker 19: We've had two in the spring.
• 34:27
Speaker 2: You know, I keep counting.
• 34:28
Speaker 19: I've been as a county commissioner for eight months, nine months,
• 34:31
Speaker 19: and they are fascinating to watch people line up hours
• 34:37
Speaker 19: in advance. They're pulling along the normal things, bunch of garbage,
• 34:41
Speaker 19: stuff you pulled out from the side of your house,
• 34:43
Speaker 19: stuff you pulled out from under the house, refrigerator, stoves, boats,
• 34:48
Speaker 19: and I went to the one I don't know last spring,
• 34:53
Speaker 19: and yes, they can take your boat and they just
• 34:57
Speaker 19: crunch it up and put it in the the the
• 35:00
Speaker 19: trucks and the trucks go out. So this one is
• 35:02
Speaker 19: going to be It didn't Clanden and we call it
• 35:05
Speaker 19: the Clindennon Area, the site of the Old Herbert Hoover
• 35:07
Speaker 19: High School. So folks start getting ready clean up. You
• 35:12
Speaker 19: have until tonight and then get ready and get in there.
• 35:16
Speaker 3: And there'll be several, you know throughout the county. They're
• 35:18
  Speaker 3: always arn one.
• 35:19
Speaker 19: Well, the second one is October fourth, and it is
• 35:22
  Speaker 19: in South Charleston.
• 35:23
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, but this this one's in Clinton.
• 35:25
Speaker 2: Where is it at the site of the old Herbert
• 35:27
  Speaker 2: Hoover High.
• 35:28
Speaker 3: School, which is literally what you just said, pay attention day, Yes, and.
• 35:31
Speaker 2: It's right along that road.
• 35:32
Speaker 19: And I just the last thing I think of Herbert
• 35:34
Speaker 19: Hoover High School is in June of twenty sixteen, and
• 35:38
Speaker 19: going there and looking inside there and just sing a
• 35:41
Speaker 19: line where the water.
• 35:42
Speaker 3: Was, and so get your stuff out there. That's a
• 35:45
Speaker 3: great oportunity to get a Clinton. You want to talk a
• 35:47
Speaker 3: little bit about the paint creak water.
• 35:50
Speaker 19: I thought, this is why I do. Let people say,
• 35:52
Speaker 19: how's county commission? I love it because look, I just
• 35:55
Speaker 19: talked about Clindennon and then anywhere, and actually I'm sure
• 35:57
Speaker 19: that folks are going to come from outside then and
• 36:00
Speaker 19: that's quite all right to drop things off and help
• 36:03
Speaker 19: with your fall cleanup. But Pink Creek Watershed association is
• 36:08
Speaker 19: doing more cleanup, and at our next meeting, we will
• 36:11
Speaker 19: be giving them more of the money from a settlement
• 36:14
Speaker 19: that we had, Like can you tell that I wasn't
• 36:17
Speaker 19: there when they did all this, But I know that
• 36:19
Speaker 19: we're gonna we're gonna vote on money. And I have
• 36:22
Speaker 19: known Pete Saminski for probably thirty years, since I was
• 36:27
Speaker 19: a young reporter doing stories about Paint Creek. And you know,
• 36:31
Speaker 19: I listened to the mayor on my way in. All
• 36:33
Speaker 19: of these are economic development drivers. You know, you think, well,
• 36:37
Speaker 19: Paint Creek eighty two thousand dollars, you're going to give them, Well, yes,
• 36:41
Speaker 19: they're going to clean up, but they also want to
• 36:43
Speaker 19: have bike trails and various recreation on the way because
• 36:49
Speaker 19: Kanawa County is the gateway to one of our newest
• 36:53
Speaker 19: national parks, the New River Gorge, And so that's why
• 36:56
Speaker 19: it's so important that we are out in that area
• 37:00
Speaker 19: and focusing on that area.
• 37:02
Speaker 3: Also, we talked to the mayor, as you mentioned earlier,
• 37:04
Speaker 3: about Regatta and things of that nature and the economic
• 37:06
Speaker 3: gamepact of Regatta. But yeah, but there's a lot of
• 37:10
Speaker 3: other things going on as far as tourism go throughout
• 37:12
Speaker 3: the county. I mean, and I know you want to
• 37:15
Speaker 3: talk a little bit about about the Kanawha Valley tourism
• 37:19
  Speaker 3: in general.
• 37:20
Speaker 19: Yes, because she talked about Tim Brady and when we
• 37:23
Speaker 19: talked about the CVB, we're like, oh, yeah, the CVB.
• 37:26
Speaker 19: We think it's the the CVB that we've known for
• 37:30
Speaker 19: so long with Tim Brady at the Helm Alicia Bailey
• 37:33
Speaker 19: before that. But we have a Central West Virginia Convention
• 37:38
Speaker 19: and Visitors Bureau and it's like, where's that? Where was
• 37:40
  Speaker 19: that from?
• 37:41
  Speaker 2: Well, that's Kanaha.
• 37:42
Speaker 19: Counties as a whole, and Lafleur Lucas before her, Carrie
• 37:49
Speaker 19: ward Smith was the executive director, and they have really
• 37:53
Speaker 19: turned this around that it's now accredited again, meaning we
• 37:56
Speaker 19: get the funds from outside the city the mayor's talking
• 38:00
Speaker 19: about the or outside all the cities talking about the hotel,
• 38:05
Speaker 19: motel taxes and heads and beds. Well, that's what the
• 38:09
Speaker 19: CVB in Kanaw County will now get or kanaw Valley Tourism,
• 38:15
  Speaker 19: and that is.
• 38:17
Speaker 2: Just turning around. They're rebranding it.
• 38:18
Speaker 19: They're going to get a new website because all of
• 38:21
Speaker 19: those economic drivers and economic numbers need to be known
• 38:25
Speaker 19: for the county and outside the County too, and just
• 38:28
Speaker 19: doing some amazing things. Follow them on Facebook for right
• 38:32
Speaker 19: now and you'll see the events that are going to
• 38:35
Speaker 19: be taking place this weekend, whether it's in Dunbar, whether
• 38:38
Speaker 19: it's the Pickle Palooza that's coming up tomorrow at Slack Plaza.
• 38:43
Speaker 19: And I can't decide what do we call it. Is
• 38:45
Speaker 19: it slack Plaza or is it the Civic Center or
• 38:48
Speaker 19: the Civic Center city city Center?
• 38:52
Speaker 3: You see what I mean, city Center at Slack Plaza,
• 38:55
Speaker 3: That's what I think. Yes, And of course you got wrestling
• 38:57
Speaker 3: there tonight. We don't want to forget that. Oh really, yeah,
• 39:00
Speaker 3: this is like we're God of Pro Wrestling. Free Showdown
• 39:02
Speaker 3: Tim Adam Adam Adam Harris would be would body slam
• 39:06
Speaker 3: me if I didn't mention that they got that av going.
• 39:08
  Speaker 11: On the night?
• 39:09
Speaker 19: Why doesn't he just start when he's finished with wrestling,
• 39:11
Speaker 19: start getting ready for Pickle Palooza Because I I told
• 39:15
Speaker 19: Brian Cooper that I would volunteer and that means like
• 39:18
Speaker 19: nine nine o'clock in the morning.
• 39:20
Speaker 2: So if Adam can start on our work.
• 39:23
Speaker 3: Okay for tomorrow collaboration.
• 39:25
Speaker 19: Yeah, and Delaney, I'm a judge and I'm doing with
• 39:28
Speaker 19: games too with Rory Perry. He is he's now the
• 39:33
Speaker 19: owner since his dad, Mike Perry passed a heritage farm.
• 39:36
Speaker 19: We need to talk about that some more too. But
• 39:37
Speaker 19: Delaney's the MC and I'm going to judge some pickles
• 39:40
Speaker 19: and do all kind of fun stuff, so in between
• 39:43
Speaker 19: some football games and all kinds.
• 39:45
Speaker 2: Of stuff that's happening tomorrow.
• 39:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just so many things going on. I've mentioned
• 39:48
Speaker 3: you mentioned the dun Barfall Festival. What's happening tomorrow. Uh,
• 39:51
Speaker 3: we got the Mountaineers Night out over the carpet tomorrow.
• 39:54
Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to that.
• 39:56
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 39:56
Speaker 3: So, I mean there's just too many things to do, uh,
• 39:58
Speaker 3: speak of the things to do when there are young people.
• 40:00
Speaker 3: There's been a lot of emphasis on playgrounds here and
• 40:04
Speaker 3: the one you know in the Tornado area, and just
• 40:08
Speaker 3: so many in Coonskin. You know that's right.
• 40:10
Speaker 19: And we're getting to get Pioneer Park too over in
• 40:12
Speaker 19: the eastern part of the county. Yes, well, we opened
• 40:15
Speaker 19: up Hoppy's Kids Happies Playground yesterday, made it official and
• 40:21
Speaker 19: as I sat up there at Coonskin, it's beautiful.
• 40:24
Speaker 2: It is a beautiful playground.
• 40:26
Speaker 19: I looked over when I first pulled up, I'm like, oh,
• 40:28
Speaker 19: there's that way little one over there that we used
• 40:31
Speaker 19: to take Delaney to twenty years ago.
• 40:34
Speaker 2: Now this one is beautiful. But I just want folks
• 40:36
  Speaker 2: to know.
• 40:37
Speaker 19: You sit there and you look over and there's the
• 40:40
Speaker 19: skate park at Coonskin. Then there's disc golf and people
• 40:44
Speaker 19: were running along, and then you know, I had to
• 40:46
Speaker 19: tell my story about the tennis courts. When I worked
• 40:49
Speaker 19: for Ken Heckler back thirty five years ago, was the
• 40:52
Speaker 19: summer I was the mountaineer and he loved to play tennis.
• 40:54
Speaker 19: He took all of us. I didn't know how to play.
• 40:56
Speaker 19: I served it hit him right in the back. And yes, everyone,
• 41:00
Speaker 19: we know, we know that tennis courts are in poor
• 41:02
Speaker 19: shape and we want to do something about that. So
• 41:05
Speaker 19: that's that's coming up. So yeah, we have to have
• 41:09
Speaker 19: better tennis courts at Coonskin.
• 41:10
Speaker 3: All right, you got a couple more minutes left. Anything
• 41:12
Speaker 3: else anyone you want to you right?
• 41:13
Speaker 19: I want to mention yesterday and I don't think that
• 41:16
Speaker 19: the mayor mentioned it, but she was there. You know,
• 41:18
Speaker 19: we follow in the same circles sometimes, but I just
• 41:20
Speaker 19: want to mention, and it goes with everything that we've
• 41:24
  Speaker 19: talked about here.
• 41:25
  Speaker 2: Booker T.
• 41:25
Speaker 19: Washington's mother, Jane Ferguson, was honored yesterday by the unveiling
• 41:30
Speaker 19: of a monument at spring Hill Cemetery. Now we need
• 41:36
Speaker 19: we as more of a community, perhaps need to know
• 41:39
Speaker 19: about Booker T. Washington, that mother Jane Ferguson left when
• 41:44
Speaker 19: when eighteen sixty five they came in August of eighteen
• 41:46
Speaker 19: sixty five to come to not just freedom, when they
• 41:50
Speaker 19: walked walked from Salem, Virginia to Malden, West Virginia for
• 41:55
Speaker 19: freedom and dignity. And so Booker T. Washington is ours.
• 42:01
Speaker 19: His developing who he was, his developed being took place
• 42:07
Speaker 19: in Malden, West Virginia with the Roughners. And that is
• 42:10
Speaker 19: a story that that you know, who we have as

Speaker 19: Is an historian and he he has written a book
• 42:22
Speaker 19: that I'd love for you to talk to him about it.
• 42:25
Speaker 19: And but that's that's our history. But that's also historic tourism,
• 42:30
Speaker 19: because they're going to have an African American tour that

Speaker 19: takes place and goes through all up Spring Hill Cemetery.
• 42:38
  Speaker 2: That's economic development.
• 42:40
Speaker 19: I work in a place at the Brennan Center where

Speaker 19: That's right, right, there's one word that I keep thinking
• 43:09
Speaker 19: of when I think a Book of Mormon.
• 43:11
Speaker 3: They say it a lot. All right, we'll just leave
• 43:12

Speaker 12: When we think about substance use disorder in West Virginia,
• 43:40
Speaker 12: we need everyone to come together and motivate change. Artists
• 43:44
Speaker 12: and recovery activists throughout the state have teamed up to
• 43:47
Speaker 12: paint murals that inspire hard conversations. It may seem small,
• 43:51
Speaker 12: but everyone played a role in breaking through stigma and
• 43:54
Speaker 12: turning these murals into something vibrant and meaningful. When it
• 43:58
Speaker 12: comes to how we think about recovery, it takes all

• 46:00
Speaker 3: the Clay Center next Wednesday. Joining us now remember the cast,
• 46:03
Speaker 3: jerryus mcwell client, welcome to the show.
• 46:08
Speaker 7: Hey, thank you so much for having me.
• 46:09
Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you, thank you for being here. Tell
• 46:11
Speaker 3: us a little bit about you and then later about
• 46:14
Speaker 3: your role in this production. We want to know about
• 46:16
Speaker 3: you the person, to give us a little bit of
• 46:18
  Speaker 3: your background.
• 46:20
Speaker 7: Yeah, so I'm born and raised from Atlanta. I recently
• 46:26
Speaker 7: was just there doing some vacation some downtown. I'm going
• 46:28
Speaker 7: to see some family and friends. I have a bachelor's
• 46:34
Speaker 7: from the University of Alabama role Tide, and I got
• 46:39
Speaker 7: my master's at Georgia State back in Atlanta, both in
• 46:41
Speaker 7: vocal performance. So I started doing performing, I would say,
• 46:47
Speaker 7: at a young age, just like in church choir, in
• 46:50
Speaker 7: church acting camp and community things. I ended up doing
• 46:56
Speaker 7: it like professionally, I want to say I started in
• 46:58
Speaker 7: twenty seventeen. Uh and I've been going full time ever since.
• 47:03
Speaker 7: But uh, I've been now with the production of book
• 47:06
Speaker 7: Mormon off and on for three years.
• 47:09
  Speaker 1: Noowh uh.
• 47:11
Speaker 7: And the role that I play now is Mafalah Timbi,
• 47:14
Speaker 7: So I'm the father of Nabolungi uh in the show.
• 47:18
Speaker 7: So I'm kind of like the village leader innocence uh.
• 47:22
Speaker 1: And so getting to play this.
• 47:25
Speaker 7: After playing a different role in the show has been
• 47:28
Speaker 7: fun and so dynamic to find a new way of
• 47:32
Speaker 7: telling this story and bringing it around the country.
• 47:35
Speaker 3: But a violence showing five any line brought to you
• 47:37
Speaker 3: a part by a Bridge Valley Community Technical College. So
• 47:39
Speaker 3: one of the people what's made I mean this shows
• 47:41
Speaker 3: this is really a part of I mean of the
• 47:44
Speaker 3: uh of the American and elsewhere landscape. I mean my
• 47:48
Speaker 3: two previous guests, I just before you had the mayor
• 47:50
Speaker 3: of Charleston and then I had one of our county commissioners,
• 47:52
Speaker 3: and they both had seen it. They both talked about
• 47:55
Speaker 3: how wonderful it was. What is it that's made this
• 47:58
Speaker 3: such a pop feel? Her production? Over the years and
• 48:01
  Speaker 3: with staying power.
• 48:03
Speaker 7: I think you have to look at it from top
• 48:06
Speaker 7: to bottom. You have writing from Matt and Trey Stone.
• 48:09
  Speaker 2: You have.
• 48:11
Speaker 7: Music from Bobby Lopez, who is responsible for you know,
• 48:14
Speaker 7: Frozen and so many other amazing musical works. Also the story.
• 48:20
Speaker 7: I think you know it's back dropped as a comedy,
• 48:23
Speaker 7: but it does have a lot of heart to it
• 48:24
Speaker 7: as well. And one thing that I always take away
• 48:28
Speaker 7: from it every night being with my amazing cast and
• 48:31
Speaker 7: telling the story, it is about community, and I think
• 48:35
Speaker 7: that's a very big subject in our world right now,
• 48:39
Speaker 7: is building community and and having that be the heart
• 48:43
Speaker 7: of the story while also having some good laugh and
• 48:46
Speaker 7: having some amazing singing going on.
• 48:48
Speaker 3: I got to ask you, have you been to Charleston,
• 48:50
  Speaker 3: West Virginia before?
• 48:52
Speaker 7: I honestly, I've been trying to rack my brain if
• 48:55
Speaker 7: I have, and I'm sure if I have not been,
• 48:57
Speaker 7: fully I've passed through. So I'm excited to explore. While
• 49:02
Speaker 7: we're there. I always try to find like some good
• 49:05
Speaker 7: coffee shops to you know, get get a nice cup
• 49:07
  Speaker 7: of coffee, maybe.
• 49:08
  Speaker 18: Do some work.
• 49:09
Speaker 7: Also local eateries. I'm a big foodie. You Oh yeah,
• 49:12
Speaker 7: and you're talking about language recommendations.
• 49:15
Speaker 3: I would gladly well, I would have to give you
• 49:18
Speaker 3: those off the air, because you know, if you mentioned
• 49:20
Speaker 3: one and you don't mention the other, and we make
• 49:22
Speaker 3: our money on advertisement here, Yeah, why why didn't you
• 49:26
Speaker 3: mention mine? But I will tell you we get some
• 49:27
Speaker 3: wonderful coffee shops. I'll tell you one place that you
• 49:29
Speaker 3: need to check out when you're Charleston, right, you need
• 49:31
Speaker 3: to go to Taylor Books. It's a downtown great place
• 49:34
Speaker 3: to get a cup of coffee and get a scone,
• 49:37
Speaker 3: and it's the whole vibe.
• 49:38
  Speaker 8: You know.
• 49:39
Speaker 3: Taylor Books Downtown is not far from I'm sure where
• 49:41
Speaker 3: you're going to be. Of course, you'd be performing at
• 49:43
Speaker 3: the Clay Center. So I'll go ahead and give you
• 49:44
  Speaker 3: that recommendation.
• 49:45
Speaker 7: Taylor Books, Right, I'll thank you.
• 49:47
Speaker 3: Go check it out. The production is going to be
• 49:49
Speaker 3: next Wednesday night at the Clay Center. And I'll tell
• 49:51
Speaker 3: you you're gonna love the Clay Center. It is a
• 49:53
Speaker 3: gem in really this part of the country. It is
• 49:56
Speaker 3: a fantastic facility. You're gonna love performing there. I have
• 49:59
  Speaker 3: no doubt.
• 50:00
  Speaker 17: I can't wait.
• 50:01
  Speaker 7: I can't wait, especially like it's that moment when I
• 50:04
Speaker 7: first come on stage and I get to see the
• 50:06
Speaker 7: audience and it is it just reminds me why I
• 50:10
Speaker 7: do this, and so I hope that they are ready
• 50:13
Speaker 7: for a good time and some good laugh and good
• 50:16
Speaker 7: music and like I said, a story that's all about heart.
• 50:19
Speaker 3: All right, It's gonna be next Wednesday, I have the
• 50:21
Speaker 3: Clay Center. Appreciate you taking time at your schedule to
• 50:24
Speaker 3: be here, and we'll see you next Wednesday nights.
• 50:26
Speaker 1: Thanks a lot, see you next Wednesday.
• 50:27
Speaker 18: Thank you so much for having me.
• 50:28
  Speaker 17: Yeah.
• 50:28
Speaker 3: Absolutely, Jerius mcquell, client from the production of the Book
• 50:33
Speaker 3: of Mormony. It'll be the Clay Center next Wednesday night.
• 50:35
Speaker 3: And we were asking the mayor asked me earlier if
• 50:37
Speaker 3: it was sold out. It is not sold out, so
• 50:39
Speaker 3: we'll get your tickets and go check it out. I mean,

Speaker 3: federal representative, says a Texture texas Dave. Going back to pets,
• 51:08
Speaker 3: I think many forget that the Fixum Clinic is helping

Speaker 3: and sick animals that the Humane Association sadly cannot see
• 51:16

• 51:50
Speaker 3: One hundred and eighty thousand people that they're saying came
• 51:52
Speaker 3: here from out of state. That's forty five thousand dollars
• 51:54
Speaker 3: a night from out of state. I don't think the
• 51:56
Speaker 3: Turnpike orps or seventy nine, seventy seven or sixty four
• 51:59
Speaker 3: are quite busy. That's a big sold up Marshall football game,
• 52:03
