Transcript
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Haunted Ozark Theatre.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: H.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: O.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: T, your Hot Horror Podcast, folks, and we are back to talk about when sequels are better than the original.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Blasphemy?
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Is it possible?
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: It is possible.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Today we're going to go.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: We're going to break it down.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: We're going to break down the sequels that we feel like surpassed their predecessors.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: But of course, we gotta do this day in horror history.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Have you seen uh directed by Bava and produced by Argento uh Demons?
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Demons! Uh give me the rundown.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Because I always get Demons, Nine of the Demons.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: There's a 80s.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: It is it's 80s, not Night of the Demon.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I love Night of the Demon.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: I love Night of the Demon, also.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Linnea Quigley, and one of her, that's one of her vehicles.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: She was all over the place in the 80s.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Demons is the one where they get locked in the movie theater.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Great film, dude.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: It's so I love the effects in that one.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Great effects.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Great example of fantastic 80s gallop.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Scared me as a kid.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: What a chaotic movie.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: It's it's uh yeah, that's a good word for that movie.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: That thing is like there is so much going on, and it's like it never lets up.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: So wait a minute.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: The director's birthday, what it or the anniversary anniversary of it coming out.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Dude, that's awesome.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: This movie came out today.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: In I think '85.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: This wasn't an 85?
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: 85, 86, something like that.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: I don't, I can't.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: But it's its birthday.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: But it was today, uh, October 4th.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Back in the mid-80s, we'll just say Demons came out.
- 2:11SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Dude, that brings back some good.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Such a good movie.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: This is one of my favorites.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Like I didn't see it at the time.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I saw it probably in the mid to late 90s.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: And I was like, this is amazing.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: And it was like when I when I finally discovered Argento, and I started like getting into all the Giallo and stuff, you know, that had been around for 20, 25 years at that point.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: But you know, I was discovering it and I was like watching one after the other.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And then I got to demons.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: And you were like, this is the so good.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: You rocked out, didn't you, dude?
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: This these two, just to give y'all a quick synopsis, yeah, these two girls um are given tickets to go see a movie.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: They they weren't planning on going to the movies.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Some stranger on the street gives them tickets, and they go inside, and one of them I can't remember how, but she gets infected.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: And she goes to the bathroom because she's not feeling well.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: In the bathroom, she turns into a demon.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: She goes back into the theater full of people and demons out.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Is that what you call it?
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And then everybody starts freaking out, and when they all try to leave the theater, what happens, Paul?
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: They're locked in.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: They're locked.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: And what happens?
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: The guy who I think gave them the tickets has now barricaded them in.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: And all hell breaks loose.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Literally.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Literally, like at one point a helicopter comes crashing through the ceiling.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: All hell breaks loose.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: When Paul says this as a chaotic movie, believe it.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: But so much fun.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: In the best way, in the best way.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Get some popcorn, turn the lights off, and have fun watching this movie.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: If you don't have fun with this movie, you don't have a pulse.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're listening to the wrong podcast.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: That brings back a lot of memory.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: That's a good one.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Happy anniversary.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Happy anniversary to demons.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: What do you got for rewatch, Paul?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: I watched something I had never seen before, so it's not a rewatch, but uh I'm gonna tell you about this and see if you've seen it before.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: This was one of those ones where you know we did our episode about Korean and Japanese, and we both said like we're gonna make a point to go a little more international.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: So I seeked out an international film that I had not seen before.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: It's a Spanish horror movie, it's Spanish uh in Spanish with American subtitles or English subtitles, and it came out in the early 70s.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: It's called Tombs of the Blind Dead.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Sounds like a metal band.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: I love it, man.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: What's it about?
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Tombs of the Blind Dead.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: That is hardcore.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's about it's basically a zombie movie, um, but they don't call them zombies.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like how, you know, uh Romero calls them ghouls, not zombies, but uh it's about this girl who I forget how she ends up on her own, but she ends up on her own and she's you know kind of wandering, and she comes across like this ruined town.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: It's like the like a ghost town.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Like there's it's just decrepit buildings and and the leftovers of you know, whatever used to be there.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: And she goes inside and uh finds a tomb down in the depths of this of this place, and she accidentally awakens everything that's down in there and sets in motion the zombies.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: And they it's they're called the blind dead because like in you find out the whole backstory of of what happened to this abandoned village, basically, and they they're all cultists basically, and they they um like gouged out their own eyes before before they died, like they gouged out their own eyes, so now their corpses don't have eyes.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: So when they reanimate, they're blind, they're blind, they're the blind dead, so you don't have to worry about them.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: You would think, but nah, no, but they they they uh what's the makeup look?
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: They smell you.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, the makeup is good, yeah.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: So that's the that was the best part.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Um the creature design and the makeup is fantastic because uh you know, like Doug Jones is like he's real skinny, yeah, and so like he gets to play, he he plays all these corpses a lot of the times because he's the only one that's skinny enough to get into these costumes.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: All the actors are like that in this movie.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: They're they look like they're very like dusty and um like empty husk looking kind of people.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Um they look like you know somebody sucked everything out of them with a straw.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: They're real skinny and withered and you know, like a leaf, like a leaf that's cracking in a dried leaf that's cracking.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Kind of like you could hit them and they just turn bone and dust.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: But they don't.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: They keep it coming.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: And tech they don't I don't remember what they call them, but they're so they they're they're reanimated corpses like a zombie, but they're trying to get her blood.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: They need they need to drink the blood.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: They need to drink blood to survive.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: They're vampires.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Kind of like vampires, kind of like a like a hybrid, I guess, between a vampire and a zombie.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: It's different, yeah.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: It's really, really good.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Worth watching.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: It's very slow, slow burn, like a slow burn, yeah.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Not slow in a bad way.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: It's it's very slow, an atmospheric, builds a lot of dread, takes its time.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: I like that, takes its time, and but it's it's you're never bored, you're always entertained, and the makeup and stuff is say no more out of this world.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Say no more.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Really, really good.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Tombs of the blind dead.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Let's make that a rock band.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: But it's in Spanish, so you got the good subtitles, though?
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: I I didn't have any problems with it.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, did not have any problems with it.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: What did you rewatch?
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Dude, I don't know if you've ever seen this movie.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: I was in the mood, and I hadn't seen this since maybe middle school.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: It's very atmospheric.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: It really makes you feel like you're in fall, October.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: It's Lady in White.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: A young Lucas Haas.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Do you know the premise?
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Do you remember it?
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: I remember it not well.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: I think I've only seen it just one time.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: So it's about this boy, his brother, the the mother's dead, and they're lit like off a little main town.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: It's a coastal town, and the it's yeah, it's really nice, and uh, so Lucas Haas is playing with his buddies and they trick him to go back to school, he forgets his cap, and they lock them in the closet at the school.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: And there's that you it it you think it's kind of this fun, kind of little kid whore, but then you find out they he gets attacked, I'll just say, and the killer thinks he's killed him, but you find out that the boy gets resuscitated from his father, but you find out this guy has killed 11 kids, but not on top of killing, he molests them.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: And it's now I remember it.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it goes way darker than you're expecting, and you're like, whoo, okay, that came out of left field.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: But it's so like, man, I felt like it's a you're right there, it's Halloween, and you feel it.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: And it's a great little horror mystery.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's really, really well done.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: And when you've got kids and the main character, it doesn't always pull off.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: But Lucas Hawes, as you man, that guy's just a great actor from kid till now.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: And uh if you haven't seen it in a while, it's on Tubi, it's got a great twist.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: They blame the janitor, the black janitor.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: And I I don't want to give too much away because you need to re-watch it.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because right now it's perfect time being fall.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: I've only seen it the one time, and yeah, it was how long ago?
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: 10, 12 years ago?
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Lady in White?
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: You're thinking Lady in What the Lady in the Water.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: This came out in 1986.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, okay.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: So it's way older than I'm remembering.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: 1986.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Well, maybe I only watched it like 10 or 12 years ago.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Maybe.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Maybe that's it, yeah.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Because there was a Lady in the Water bio uh Mnite Shovelot.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: But this is Lady in White.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: No.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, I mean, I've seen it, I definitely have seen it, but I've only seen it once, and it's been a long time.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: So I'll have to revisit it.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, cool.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: So, Paul, what are we here for today?
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: We're gonna talk about uh a movie comes out, it's great, it blows your mind, and then the sequel comes out and it's even better.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: It's like Godfather Part 2.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Is that what we're talking about?
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Terminator 2.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Empire Strikes Back.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Like, how how did they how do they top how did they top the first one?
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: But in a war.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: So do you want to start?
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: No, you go for it.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Mine and this is I don't think you're gonna fight me on this one.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Halloween part two, but but Rob Zombies.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Ah I I'm not I couldn't put 1980 in front of 78 Halloween, but I I you know how I feel about Rob Zombies.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love the 07.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: I love but 2009 is a Rob Zombie Halloween movie with 07.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he got the blessing from John.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Make it your own film.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: He didn't the studio stepped in.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: That's a John Carpenter Rob Zombie movie.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: It's a it's a mirror of two, but in 09, Rob, go crazy.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: The only thing it's got in common with the part two from the 80s is the hospital scene.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that is it.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: And then it's it's more about Lori and what that trauma costs with her and Annie and man.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: A lot of people hate this movie.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: I think this is the scariest Michael out of any version of Michael Myers.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: It it really plays on the story of loss and how that affects everybody from Sheriff Brackett, Annie, Lori, how Michael's surviving, what happens.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: I get with Loomis, because he's not the same as uh Donald Pleasant.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Michael Maddow does his own thing and he goes off a different kind of path I would like seen.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: But hey, that's this movie.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Well, and that's what that's part of what gives it its own unique identity.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: Right, exactly.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: And I don't know why people they're now I'm just not having this backwoods here, Bailey Rob, this Michael Myers.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Dude's living in the woods.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: He's gonna have the be, he's gonna look like a hobo.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: They call him Mobo Myers.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: I love long-haired Michael with the mask over it.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: And I love Scout Scott Taylor Compton.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, as Lori and Daniel Harris is.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they and they went on to host the podcast together.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: So would you would you agree or do and it's fine if you don't, but it is which one I know.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: I love 07, but a superior movie movie to me is the 09.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: I would agree that Rob Zombie's 09 movie is better than Rob Zombie's 07 movie, but I would have a hard time agreeing that either of them are better than like the main line Halloween movies.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: The originals?
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Well, you're a purist, though.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: I am, you really are.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: But with that being said, this is a perfect segue to one of my more more controversial takes.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Um Halloween 2 is inferior to the new Halloween trilogy that we got.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Who you're saying compared to all three of them?
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Halloween 18, Halloween Kills, Halloween Inds?
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: Yes, I'm saying those if you take those three as kind of like a single as a sequel to the original Halloween.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Which you could.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Right, very easy.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: David Gordon Green, he made a trilogy of films that were meant to replace everything except the original Halloween board.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: And again, like you're kind of saying with Rob Zombie, a lot of people hated this new trilogy.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: I enjoyed it quite a bit.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: And it lost me at ends.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna lie.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: I would say that uh you can make an argument that the new trilogy as a sequel is is superior to at least to Halloween 2, and maybe to all those, all the Halloween that came out.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: That's a hot take, dude.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: That's my hot take.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: That that will have to be in a discussion where we just discuss the Halloween franchise, my friend.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: Well, and we're gonna, I'll just let the audience know right now, we're gonna do, as Halloween approaches, we're gonna do an episode, which I feel will probably get split into two episodes where we tackle the Halloween franchise.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: Well, then I'm gonna bookmark that because me and you will have a good discussion about that topic.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm not done with that.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Not my long shot.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, when we when we get around to agree with that, which is gonna be probably in the next two or three weeks, we're gonna we're gonna tackle that.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're gonna talk about the whole Halloween franchise.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna talk about everything that came from the original that John Carpenter started, but we're also gonna talk about the two Rob Zombie movies, and we're also gonna talk about the three David Gordon Green movies.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: All in play.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Because the we're talking about the whole franchise.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: We're gonna talk about the video game.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're gonna run out of time if we include the we got the comics too, because there's some great Halloween comics.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: But by okay, okay, that's awesome.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: All right, so you are saying 09 Halloween, I'm saying David Gordon Green Halloween trilogy.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: What else you got on your list?
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Dude, uh one that I think is a far superior film to the original.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: And I'm not, and let it me just say, just get the first one.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying it's bad.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: The first one by all means uh on any of these, but it's just one I prefer better than the original.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: I like watching more.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: And the next one I picked is Child's Play Part 2.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Okay, 1990.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: It uh part two is good.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Man, in the very ending where they're in the toy factory, yes, and Andy's got the foster parents, and you feel so bad for him, and the kills are take it to the next level.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: I I I have I had a hard time watching this as a little Cody.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I had a hard time watching this, and when he gets mutated at the end, and he you know, Andy, and he's coming down the conveyor belt.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Belt, yeah, dude.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: And that some of the kills on this, it man, Chucky is brutal.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: I they really amped it up for this part two, and I think it's a better film all the way around.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: I will say that when I think back on child's play as a whole, that's where my mind goes.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: My mind goes to the the ending in the factory, the ending of part two in the factory.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: That's like my mind's eye replays with him and his foster sister, and they're doing everything to stop Chucky.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: And and what and it's even cool because that credits end on Chucky.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: If you remember, he's mutated and melted.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: So I just looked at me.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Some other people's lists of what they say is uh a superior sequels.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: And there were a lot of people who said Chuck E2 is better than Chuck Ew.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: There was also a lot of people who said Cult of Chucky belongs to Chucky in that conversation.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Now remember, I just went off the sequels, the actual pure sequels.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: The part two.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: So, but no, I love cult of and I didn't, you know, I got that on Redbox, brought it home, me and a girlfriend, and I was like, this movie's gonna suck.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and we both got done, and she wasn't a huge Chucky fan, but she's like, that rocked.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: And I was like, didn't it though?
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it was a fun surprise.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: It's always fun to have that surprise in a way.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: I totally agree.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: That was um that was a movie that far exceeded my expectations.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: Because, like, you can when you're when you've when you're 20 years removed from the original and you've made this.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: You're not expecting too much, Paul.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Definitely am I incorrect too?
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: The leading lady, the the the handicapped chick, that's Bret Durf's daughter in real life.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: Fiona Durf, yeah.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's great, isn't she?
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: She's she needs to be more she is she's not handicapped in real life, but she uh she's got some chops.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: She totally does.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Now, I heard maybe I'm not recalling right, but she does voice work too, and there's like a horror movie that just came out or is coming out soon, where she is the voice of the of the main one of the main characters.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: Let's do some beckoning, we'll find that out.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: She's she's stepping into her and filling her father's shoes.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: That's some big shoes to fill too, dude.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: She's awesome.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: She's starting to uh you know gain the experience and the and the credits that her name deserves, yeah.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's just yeah, she's deserving.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: And that is an awesome movie.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: Not better than part two, in my opinion, though.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Gotcha, gotcha.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: What do you got?
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: Uh here's my last one that I would deem controversial.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: And it's only controversial because I don't know where I'm such a huge fan of the first one.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: I've told y'all before, Alien, the original Alien, is such a landmark movie.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: This is a landmark movie for me.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: Alien, the original Alien, is so special to me.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: It's such a masterpiece.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: But I gotta say that part two might be better.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: But they're two different movies, man.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: They're totally so and I was gonna put that on the list, but I was like, I can't justify it.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but you're you're told I which one do I like better?
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: Don't make me a kid.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: But then you're right in that the nice thing is they're so different in tone from each other that you don't have to pick one or the other.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: No, you don't.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: Uh but James Cameron, James Cameron did something that I didn't think anybody would be able to do, which is take the alien and then make it so good that you'd be having this argument.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: Is it better?
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Like And is it?
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: You're saying it is.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: You're saying it is.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm including it on my list.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: So you're saying I need to hear I need to hear your mouth say it.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: I think it's it's got more mass appeal.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: I think it's a more entertaining movie.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: If we're talking about strictly horror, part one is better.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, part one is more of a horror movie, and it has more going for it, you know, that that makes it but overall, but overall, part you know, aliens is so entertaining.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: It's you can't you can't definitely can't uh overlook it.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Not no god no great pick.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: Uh this one might be controversy to you because these are in I like them, but I don't like them as much as you.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: But I found this movie superior, it levels above part one, dude, and you may not like this, and that's Evil Dead 2.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: I got it on my list.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Do you re I loved Evil Dead 2?
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: Evil Dead 2 is the best of the whole franchise.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: It's everything.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: I the I think this is do you would you say this is Bruce Campbell's best performance?
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: Well, have you seen Ash versus Evil Dead?
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: I haven't.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: So I don't think there is a I think Ash versus Evil Dead is Bruce Campbell totally off the leash.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Like he was set free to fully embody the Ash character in in Ash versus Evil Dead, and he does.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: And he shines.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: He shines.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: As far as the three movies go, um, yes, Evil Dude, Evil Dead 2 is Bruce Campbell's best performance, for sure.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: I love the camera work Sam Raimi does on that too.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: It's crazy camera.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: Camera work on one and two is so influential.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: So many people copied that style after one and two came out.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Um, no, but I there's there's no pushback for me.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Two is a superior movie.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, I thought every no, two is a superior movie in every single way.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: And um two introduces lore that didn't exist in part one that gets carried through the rest of the franchise.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, two is really the one that sets the stage and launches everything else.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: No, I uh you're not gonna get any pushbacks.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: Okay, awesome.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: What do you got next?
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: Um, I got two more on my list, and I know you're gonna agree with both of these.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: Sounding pretty confident there, Pauly.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: What do you got?
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: One of them is one that you and I have talked about numerous times about it not getting its flowers.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: And the sequel is Hatchet 2.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: Made my list.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, made my list.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, Hatchet 1 is amazing, and Hatchet 2 is even better.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: It's even better.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Adam Green's the hatchet.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: If you guys people sleep on Hatchet.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Man, have you a hatchet marathon and go nuts with this?
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Part two.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: I can't say enough about two, dude.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: No, you and you and me have talked about this numerous uh occasions, both on the podcast and off the podcast.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: Hatchet franchise is slept on.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: Dude, I would love to do a whole series on Hatchet.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: I totally would too.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: And there is uh, I think I showed it to you on my phone.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: There is like a hatchet box set that you can get.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you did.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: And I I want to get that bad.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: Why do you like two more than one?
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: It just takes everything great about part one and just dials it up.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: It a hundred percent.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: Without sacrificing anything.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: How did you feel?
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: And I you know I love Danielle Harris.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: And her replacing, did you did that take you out any?
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Because the first time I watched it, I loved that young lady who was in the the for what was her um I can't.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: Carrie Ann Beth or Oh, uh her character's name.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Beth Ann, or but I loved her, and I was like, okay, but when I found out it was Danielle Harris, I was like, let's rock.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, you you're always kind of like, oh, I would feel better if it was the same actress.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: You always feel that way, I think.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: But I mean, you can't argue with Daniel Harris's pedigree uh in horror, and you can't argue with her chops as an actress.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, she she does great.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: And if you guys love Kills, and if you're only familiar maybe with Terrifier, I would say Terrifier, it you like we've said before, Hatchet walked, so terrifier art the clown could run, guys.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: And if you don't believe me, check out Hatchet series.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, this part two is is better in every way, and like you said before, that doesn't diminish part one.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Not at all.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, it takes it builds on it, and it builds on it in a great, great way.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: You say you you so you've got one more because I've got a healthy list here.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: I wanted to go over some quick mentions real quick and pick your mind.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Uh have you seen this movie?
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: And if so, is it better than is it would you consider this part one?
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: And this is Manhunter.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: It's the story of Hannibal Lecter.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: And I to me that's part one, and Silence of the Lambs is part two.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: But Manhunter came after No, Manhunter is the originally part it is part one, and then Silence of uh uh Ryan something.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: He's a great actor, plays Hannibal Lecter.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: But I mean, like it's a prequel, but Silence of the Lambs came out first.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, no, no, no, no.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Manhunter came out first, and it's a like Hannibal's still Lecter's still locked up, and there's a uh a killer called Tooth Fairy.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, and uh FBI, uh old retired FBI, they have to get him to Yeah, no, I I know I'm familiar with it, but how is that a sequel?
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Silence of the Lambs would be a sequel.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Oh Silence of the Lambs is the sequel.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, you're saying Silence of the Lambs is the sequel and it's better.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Yes, I agree.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, hardly.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: I was confused as to what you were saying there.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: Okay, and then a quick mention I wanted to do.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: I don't think you've seen them yet still, but it's the Fear Street anthology, the one, two, and three.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: The trilogy?
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you've seen them?
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Okay, I thought you told me 1978 is better than 1993, in my opinion, but I am very biased because it's a summer camp slasher.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I was in heaven that whole time.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: So I just wanted to bring up those two.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: No, you you have the the Camp Killer's mask, and dude, I've seen those numerous times.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, I thought you told me maybe it was someone else.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, I'm probably I I watched all three of them when they first came out.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: I just re-watched them probably last year with my 11-year-old because she was starting to get into horror, and I thought that was uh I thought that would be up her alley, and it totally was.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: And I've I've seen the Prom Queen one too.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I wasn't crazy about it.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: I didn't hate it.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it like those three.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: No, those three are great.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, I'd say 78 is the best of the three.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: But um all three of them are good.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: All three of them are good, and they all tell one cohesive story.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: You need you need one to the future.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I'm gonna save.
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: I've got a couple left, but I want to save my best one for last because I think you won't agree.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's see.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: This one for me was an easy pick, dude.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Friday the 13th, part two, yeah, is a better film all the way around.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Now, maybe part the original is more iconic.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Dude, I I'm a Jason dude.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: And I get Sackhead Jason, I get the lore, you get that campfire story, and it's just that final girl.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: I liked her better than uh the final girl in the part one.
- 28:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I liked her a lot better.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: No, I agree.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: Part two is better.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Part one is, you know, great for all the reasons that it's more of a setup movie to me.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it's the diving forest.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: It really is.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: Um, no, part two is fantastic.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: I've said many times that Sackhead is one of the best looks, and it's totally underrated.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: And I love when you get underground and you see how he's been living, yeah, and you get the shrine that he built to his mother with her head, and like that's awesome.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: That's good stuff.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: And I like that psychology, you know.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: She put at the end, um she puts on the sweater and does her hair, and Jason, mother's talking to you, and Jason's kind of like, uh that's the only reason she survives.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: And uh in about a week or two, we got the crystal egg uh Twitter.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Great things.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: I have too, and I'm sure I'm gonna binge it.
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: I'm sure they're going to uh build on that, build on the like the ending of two when she's photograph and stuff and the shrine, and then that's gotta be included in this show.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: It has to be.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: It's gotta be.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: I wanted to bring that up.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: What do you got?
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Uh last one I have is Devil's Reject.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: I got devil's, but I've got more, so go ahead.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Um I'm a huge, huge fan of the Firefly trilogy.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Um I know a lot of people don't like one and three.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know why either.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: But two, the Devil's Reject is pretty universally loved.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, it came out in 05, and I remember not I'd seen rejects before I saw House of a Thousand First.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: And it I was like, I've gotta see and I it's I was blown away by D Lux Rejects the first time I watched it.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: I think most people agree that this is Rob's best film.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: Um easy.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: And it's easily the best of the trilogy.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: Uh and again, to me, that doesn't diminish one or three, because I love all three of them.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: But doubles rejects is a solid, solid the the character arcs and all of them, and dude, Ken for how I love his sheriff, and he's he's the getting the revenge for his brother who gets shot in the first one, and he's uh bringing hell with him kind of vendetta.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: But then the five they're they're bonning and the comedy they had the 2D fruity.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: We're not stopping for no 2D fruity.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Then it had you laughing, but then it had the most grotesque scenes where he skins the the maid and she runs out and gets hit by the diesel.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a gory, gory film, and some of the best dialogue.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: It's very hardcore, it's very grindhouse.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: It's it's almost Tarantino-esque.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Very good, yeah.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, it's got fantastic dialogue, and this might make me a weirdo.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: I could watch this movie once a week.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: I could watch the devil's research once a week.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: You with me on this?
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, thank you.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, most definitely.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: This is one that like I I would put this on to like test people who gauge them.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, who's your favorite Firefly?
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: I've never asked you.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Otis.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Or is Captain Spauld be?
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: Otis is my guy.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: Otis is your dude.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Otis is my guy in all three movies.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: All three movies, I'm like, well, I'm a big Bill Mosley fan, first of all.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: But Otis in particular is you're yeah, he's I've got to show you when this podcast is over.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: A little plug for a shirt company, a clothing called the Drive.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: I've got it, and it's uh it's got Otis on it, and it says run rabbit run.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: I gotta show you, yeah.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: I'm plugging them, you'd love it.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: Well, I think I've said this before, but um when I got the I bought the like the VIP experience when three for three from hell came out, and uh they there were three shirts.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: There was the Otis shirt, the baby shirt, and the Wolfman shirt.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: And you had to pick one.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I picked Otis because that's that's my guy.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: Otis is my guy, 100%.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: Great family.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: Who's your favorite of the three?
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, definitely, definitely.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're you agree.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: I I I wish I could have got some more backstories on some of the guys from Devil or uh House of a Thousand Corpse is like uh what do they call nut skin is uh too tall.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: And but she kind of tells about how yeah, tiny, thank you, and how the story where they're eating dinner and the fire and his daddy did it to him and captive or uh Dr.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: Satan.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: I would have liked to hear more about Dr.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: Satan and Devil's Rejects.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: You don't hear anything about him, though.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: I guess there is a deleted scene in Devil's Rejects where we revisit Dr.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: Satan.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: I would have loved and seen that.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: I just have this like sneaking suspicion that Rob is one day gonna give us like a Dr.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: Satan film.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: I would not be surprised if he's got an idea or a script written or just the beginnings of something rattling around in that brain.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Wouldn't that be awesome?
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: His full his final movie would be that maybe a trilogy of that.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: Even if it wasn't a trilogy, just just what if he just came out and said, like, Dr.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: Satan, I'm giving you guys Dr.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Satan the movie.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: I'm there for it.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: That would be awesome.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Therefore, dude, sign me up.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: That would be awesome.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: So that's my list.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: I kind of want to end there.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: I I I'm I'm bringing up one because that's the one I want to end up.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: Uh this is uh franchise of films that I really loved, and I think out of all of them, it's not only the better than part one, it's I think, in my opinion, it's the best out of the franchise.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Final Destination 2.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: And we talked about this once before, I couldn't remember what about, but it's just a better movie all the way around than one, I thought.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: And I what do you think?
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: I love the kills.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: There's an elevator scene kill that I love.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: And the logging truck.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: My grandfather was a logger, so that really I mean the logging truck is probably the most iconic scene from the whole franchise.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: And that did come from part two.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Because we've all been there.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: We've all been on the highway, and you're like, I need to get on the other side of this truck.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: To this day, you know, 20 years later, like, no, not even just horror fans.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: Nobody wants to be behind a logging truck because that's the first thing they think of.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that chain's gonna break, and that mug's gonna come and split my head in two.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I would say if it's if two is not better, it's at least more iconic than than the first one.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: I am not a huge fan of the franchise as a whole.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, I mean, I I keep going to see every time they come out with a new one.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: Who's that left bloodlines?
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: Bloodlines, yeah.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: Every time they come out with a new one, I go see it.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: But I I don't ever find myself re-watching them.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: See, I'm on the other hand, I'm not it's I'll put Final Destination on, watch Ten Minutes, it's a background movie.
- 36:03SPEAKER_01: I'm doing laundry, I make it, and I those are it's those are the kind of horror movies I can put on to do that, and I tend to just I'll put on part one and have it where I can go through all of them.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: So and I always find twos just I don't maybe it's just me, maybe other people don't feel that way, but two just always if I had to pick one to watch out of all of them be part two.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: No, I I hear what you're saying.
- 36:26SPEAKER_00: I would, yeah, I would I stand by what I said, which is if it's not better, it's definitely more iconic for sure.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: And that's the end.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: I just want to and I wanted to see how you felt real quick before we close out.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: I couldn't do it, but I thought I could, and then I re-watched part one, and I was like, nope, part one's better.
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: Terrifier.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: Terrifier, right?
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: By far.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: And I wanted to like two a lot more.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: I wanted to really love, and I do love part two, don't get me wrong.
- 36:51SPEAKER_01: I love three, but I was just like, one is something about it.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: I it's just a better film than me.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Terrifier so far, it's the franchise is not complete.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: So far, it's the opposite of what we were just talking about with the Firefly movies.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: We just said, um, you know, with the Firefly movies, two is easily the best, and one and three get hated on.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: For the Terrifier movies, in my opinion, two is the weakest of the three.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: I would agree.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: So far.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: I would go one, three, two.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, totally agree.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: Um, two's not bad.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: It's not bad at all.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Not at all.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: But it's not as good as one, and I feel like three accomplished what he was trying to accomplish on part two.
- 37:39SPEAKER_00: Like he tried to do something with two and he didn't quite make it, but then in three, he did pull it off.
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: But yeah, two, I would not put two above one under any circuit.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: I didn't think you would either.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: And I just re-watched two like a month or a lot.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: It is a good movie.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: Nothing at all.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: What I when I watched two for the very first time, I walked away from it initially thinking that was far inferior to part one.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: When I watched part two about a month ago or so, um I I walked back on that initial thought.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: It's a it's a good movie, and and the only problems I have with it are at the very end.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: The first, you know, hour and 20 minutes of it are fantastic.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: And then the last 10 minutes goes a little off the rails just in those last 10 minutes.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Gotcha.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's my only gripe with Terrifier 2.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: But Terrifier as a trilogy, great, as a whole, I love it, and I anticipate that the fourth movie is gonna make make it even better.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: Fingers crossed, right?
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's a we want a sword fence.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: I'm excited about part four.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: So, Paul, that's our list.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: You that you know more for you, right?
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I'm done.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: I'm done.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: Uh you want to tell the audience what we're gonna be doing next?
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're we're gonna have some fun with this next episode.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, y'all remember when we guested on the Donamantis podcast?
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: Joey.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: With Joey and Ivan and Sam, and then Donna Mantis came and guest starred on our podcast, and we decided that it's time to hook back up with them for another collaboration.
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: A road trip.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: This one's a road trip.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: Kind of like how you and me did the episode from the road when we went to Forecona OKC.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: The four of us, me and Cody from Haunted Old Zark Theater, and Joey and Ivan from Donamantis, we're road tripping, and we are gonna do a podcast from the radio from the road, and we are going to explore Tex Arcana, Arkansas slash Texas, and we're gonna visit all of the sites of the Phantom Killer, the town that dreaded Sundown.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: The town that dreaded Sundown.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna talk about um both films, but we're also gonna talk about the real life crowders, what it's based off of.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and talk, and we're gonna talk about them at the places where they occurred.
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: So excited for that.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be fun.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: Additionally, we are going to go a little farther south and go to Falk to see and visit the monster mark in Boggy Creek.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: We're gonna talk about the legend of the Boggy Creek monster.
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: So we should have a law for you guys.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: It's yeah, it's gonna be a special episode for us.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: This is gonna be a very special episode, and I think this will be the first time where the episode is the same, whether you're listening to Don Amantis or Holly Goes Arc Theater.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: You're gonna get the exact same episode from either podcast.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, they they guessed it on ours, and ours was totally unique to theirs when we guessed it on theirs.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: There were two completely different episodes, but this one is gonna be the same episode no matter which podcast you're listening to.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be fun, guys.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be really fun.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: We're gonna we're gonna talk about uh both versions of the Town of the Dread Sundown.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: We're gonna talk about the legend of Bogging Pig Monster, but we're also gonna talk about the actual case of the Phantom.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: This is a real thing that happened in the forties.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: Yes, it is.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: And they never caught him.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: They never caught him.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna um we're gonna visit all the real locations where this this took place, and it's gonna be awesome.
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: Don't miss this.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: Don't miss it.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: Don't sleep on it.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: No.
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: This is fun.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: Yes, sir.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: All right, y'all.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: Thank you for listening and come back in a week.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: Be good, guys.
