- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happened to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So there's a process in gardening where if you want
- 0:34something to put energy into making the vegetable, you have
- 0:38to sometimes pull the bud off that would actually make the
- 0:42vegetable when the plant is too small.
- 0:45And this kills me. Like I have to say, every time I
- 0:48do it, it always makes me cringe because you wait for those to
- 0:51happen. You wait for the flowers to show
- 0:53up. And it doesn't work on all
- 0:55plants. So for those of you listening
- 0:56and taking this as gardening advice, please check whatever
- 1:00plant you're doing this with, vegetables or flowers.
- 1:03Sometimes you should do it and sometimes you should not.
- 1:06Peppers happen to be one of them that you absolutely should do
- 1:10it. And there are tricks where you
- 1:13can pull off those initial flowers and strip off some of
- 1:19those lower leaves to keep the plant so it has enough air flow.
- 1:23And all of a sudden you will end up with a lot more Peppers and
- 1:26they'll be longer and straighter because they're not avoiding
- 1:30those branches. It's just very weird how it
- 1:33works, but it's very true. And Peppers happen to be one of
- 1:37my favorite things to grow. I love making sauces out of
- 1:40them, doing all kinds of things with them.
- 1:43However, it's very important to know that the plants will start
- 1:48flowering when they're really small.
- 1:50And in order to have them progress, you have to pull off
- 1:53the flower. Now, as a coach, I sit there and
- 1:56I look at this and I think, Oh my gosh, isn't this true?
- 1:59You have all these potentials in your brain.
- 2:02You have all these ideas in your brain, and sometimes you have to
- 2:05prune them off to stay focused on the bigger piece of the
- 2:09puzzle, which is growing yourself and getting to the
- 2:12strength where you can handle the idea that you want to do.
- 2:16Isn't that a wild concept when you think of it that way?
- 2:19I love it. It just, it makes so much sense
- 2:21to me. I've had ideas over my lifetime
- 2:25that I couldn't handle. So when I was little, I had this
- 2:30big huge brainstorm. I was in my bedroom.
- 2:32I was probably like 5 if I remember right, four or five.
- 2:36And I was doing something that my parents did not like me to
- 2:39do, which was use the glue, white glue, Elmer's glue and mix
- 2:44it with paint. And my mother used to get so
- 2:46annoyed with me for this. However, I would use make
- 2:50colleges with things that I would find find item the found
- 2:54items out in the world like, you know, go collect leaves,
- 2:57flowers, petals, things like that.
- 2:59And I would want to stick them onto cardboard and make a
- 3:02collage. But every time I did that, the
- 3:04white glue stuck out and it irritated me.
- 3:07Even when I was little, I remember sitting and saying to
- 3:09myself, that's not pretty, That's not what I wanted because
- 3:12in my head I could see it and I wanted it to match the product
- 3:16that I was putting on there or the piece of whatever I was
- 3:18doing. So I would sit and take Dixie
- 3:20cups because she had one of those old school Dixie cup
- 3:23containers in the bathroom so that when you used mouthwash or
- 3:27you were brushing your teeth, you could use the little cup.
- 3:30Even though it never worked because my father would always
- 3:33just put his mouth down to the faucet and scoop up.
- 3:36And my mother was completely offended by him sucking on the
- 3:38edge of the faucet all the time. And she was like, can you just
- 3:41use the cup? So we had those old school Dixie
- 3:44cups anyway. So I would take those Dixie cups
- 3:47and I would put glue in all of them and I would then mix paint
- 3:51in them, paint into the glue. And my mother was like, this is
- 3:54a waste. You're wasting the glue, you're
- 3:56wasting the paint. She got very annoyed all the
- 3:58time. I I, however, thought it was a
- 4:01brilliant idea. And I went to my father one
- 4:04night and I said, I want to make colored glues and sell them.
- 4:08And my father was like, well, that's a silly idea.
- 4:11I don't know how that would ever work.
- 4:13I don't know how we would do it. I mean, I'll talk to your mother
- 4:16about letting you do it, but that's a silly idea.
- 4:18Now think about this. Crayola went on to make an
- 4:21entire business out of this. I was 5 when I came up with
- 4:24this. Had nobody to talk to, nobody to
- 4:27advocate for me because they just didn't think it was
- 4:29something. And it was in the 70s and who
- 4:30cared? It wasn't what they did.
- 4:32They didn't think that way then. So I I had an idea, but it
- 4:38needed to be pruned back. It needed to be that creative
- 4:42energy needed to be channeled into other things, which it was.
- 4:47It could have been a fabulous thing if it had been ready for
- 4:50it, but or somebody had been ready for it, but it, it wasn't,
- 4:53it had to be pruned back. And now I think about all those
- 4:57ideas that flow into my head that I can essentially create in
- 5:02different ways because I've now become the person that can do
- 5:06this, the person that can do it. So I think it's incredibly
- 5:10important to say, OK, I sometimes I've got to put my
- 5:13ideas in a parking lot. We've talked about using parking
- 5:16lots before. If you're not ready to perform
- 5:19the idea or create the idea, but it's a good idea, put it in a
- 5:22parking lot and then when it comes to fruition, do it.
- 5:25So I just wanted to throw that out there today because it's
- 5:28making me think of it because I got to go pull some pepper
- 5:31blooms off the Peppers before I put them in the garden this
- 5:34weekend. So wish me luck and I hope you
- 5:37guys have a blessed day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:40Bye.
