- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to Just the Cats with Michael Bennett. Hello, Big
- 0:13Speaker 1: Blue Nation, Welcome to Just the Cats. My name is
- 0:16Speaker 1: Michael Bennett. On this Tuesday, June twenty third. Hope everybody's
- 0:21Speaker 1: having a great days, have a bit of a pretty day.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It's a little chilly outside, but I think the heat's
- 0:27Speaker 1: getting ready to hit us. I know for a fact
- 0:30Speaker 1: that allergies are hitting some of us. But Matthew Chilles
- 0:34Speaker 1: is with me this morning. Matthew are you Are you okay?
- 0:39Speaker 1: I felt like death the past, like five days death. Really,
- 0:44Speaker 1: I just got mucus all on my throat.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I can't I can barely breathe and congested sound awful.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you can't do this. You just got engaged. And
- 0:53Speaker 1: Paulina might turn around and say, I I'm out man.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I don't need some guy that's got all this kind
- 1:00Speaker 1: of issues. I need somebody that's healthy and good looking
- 1:04Speaker 1: and and uh, you know, gonna take care of her. Well.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I'm definitely healthy. I'll tell you that. Are you healthy?
- 1:10Speaker 1: You don't look like you're healthy. Good Looking is one thing,
- 1:13Speaker 1: but healthy is a definite. Yeah. This is a yearly
- 1:16Speaker 1: thing for me. I can't stand it.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It's just one it's only gotten worse throughout my life
- 1:21Speaker 2: because the air quality and Louisville is just terrible.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Yep, welcome to the Ohio Valley. It's it's so bad.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Every single year, I have to basically take allergy medicine
- 1:30Speaker 2: like it's a probiotic like I like it's a vitamin
- 1:34Speaker 2: like I. If I miss like a day or two
- 1:37Speaker 2: in a row, I get like this and I forgot
- 1:39Speaker 2: to take one.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Oh you forgot to take it. You're irresponsible. Yep, exactly.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Oh boy, I listen. I need to talk to Pauline's
- 1:48Speaker 1: dad about this is we might need to call this
- 1:50Speaker 1: engagement off. I don't know if you deserve her. She
- 1:53Speaker 1: certainly doesn't deserve somebody that's irresponsible enough not they can't
- 1:56Speaker 1: even take their own medicine and make them feel good.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I agree, I'm just kidding. But uh And for those
- 2:04Speaker 1: that don't know, Matthew got engaged last Friday, So that's
- 2:07Speaker 1: what we're talking about. We talked about it yesterday. Some
- 2:09Speaker 1: people tuned in didn't realize it, but uh again, congratulations,
- 2:14Speaker 1: congratulations to you. I'm not sure I should say it
- 2:16Speaker 1: to Paulina.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't say it pol either, but yeah, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 2: congratulations to me for getting her over trick doing this exactly.
- 2:24Speaker 1: You definitely tricked her, and.
- 2:25Speaker 2: So I told the other day she was like, she's
- 2:27Speaker 2: on vacation. I was like, you can't cheat anymore, it's over,
- 2:29Speaker 2: like you lost.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Whoa Did you say that to her yesterday? Yeah?
- 2:34Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, I was like, it's oh, you know you're
- 2:37Speaker 2: locked up now. I mean, yeah, if you thought about
- 2:39Speaker 2: having any fun, let.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Me tell you right now, there are traps out there. Okay.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I'm just trying to tell you you got to be careful.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And you hope that she doesn't listen to you on
- 2:49Speaker 1: the radio, cause you'll say something and then she'll come
- 2:52Speaker 1: You'll come home and she'll ask what did you mean
- 2:54Speaker 1: by that? And that's happened to me, Like, for instance,
- 2:57Speaker 1: I was telling uh Dale Romans the trainer out Chill
- 3:00Speaker 1: Downs the other day. I have to leave Wednesday night
- 3:04Speaker 1: to fly out to Spokane, Washington for my wife because
- 3:08Speaker 1: her mom passed away and that's where she's going to
- 3:10Speaker 1: be buried. And so I have to leave Wednesday night.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I'll come back Sunday. And you know, I'm talking about
- 3:17Speaker 1: all the big races at Churchill Downs. You got Stephen
- 3:20Speaker 1: Foster this weekend. It's now up to two million dollars.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Person got everybody in it. And she looked at me
- 3:26Speaker 1: and says, it's okay, you don't have to go. And
- 3:28Speaker 1: Dale Romans looked at me and says, don't you fall
- 3:31Speaker 1: for that? That's a trap. And his wife, Tammy's right
- 3:35Speaker 1: there at Tammy Fox and she's like, yeah, don't don't
- 3:37Speaker 1: that you need to go. So I'm going. Of course
- 3:40Speaker 1: I'm going, but I'm not gonna fall. That's one of
- 3:43Speaker 1: those traps you have to watch out for. When they say,
- 3:46Speaker 1: oh you don't have to go, that means you had
- 3:49Speaker 1: better go. Oh well, I mean I already know that. Okay.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Paulina does that stuff now, oh she does.
- 3:56Speaker 2: She like, she'll Her thing is she'll want to go
- 3:59Speaker 2: do something or go get something, so she'll be like,
- 4:03Speaker 2: you know, it'd be you know, she'd be like, you know,
- 4:07Speaker 2: ice cream sounds really good. I'm like, And then her
- 4:09Speaker 2: trick is she'll ask me if I want to go
- 4:11Speaker 2: get ice cream, and then she's expecting me to say yes,
- 4:15Speaker 2: just because I know she wants to go.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 2: But if I say, I mean I don't really want it,
- 4:20Speaker 2: then she just won't go. You know, she just wants
- 4:22Speaker 2: me to say so I'll be like I have to say, yeah,
- 4:25Speaker 2: for sure, I'd love to go get ice cream, even
- 4:26Speaker 2: though that's literally the last thing I could care about
- 4:28Speaker 2: right now, because I can't say we can go get
- 4:30Speaker 2: it for you. No, she wants to eat it with somebody.
- 4:33Speaker 2: She don't eat by herself. She's that stuff now. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:37Speaker 2: don't say, here's five bucks set in about twenty minutes. Yeah,
- 4:40Speaker 2: it's not what you want to do.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Like for instance, last night you mentioned sweets, Patricia made brownies.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I said why did you make brownies? And it triggered
- 4:50Speaker 1: her because she said she has a client that got
- 4:54Speaker 1: a divorce and made the comment to Patricia, you mean,
- 4:58Speaker 1: I can make brownies anytime I want to. I don't
- 5:00Speaker 1: have to worry about somebody ridiculing me. The only reason
- 5:03Speaker 1: I said is because I'm trying not to eat sugar.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I don't want to gain all my weight back. I mean,
- 5:09Speaker 1: you just don't have to eat it. You're right, but
- 5:11Speaker 1: they're right there in front of me, and there it's
- 5:13Speaker 1: got the whole house smelling like a brownie. Look.
- 5:16Speaker 2: So we had our engagement party on Friday. Yeah, I said,
- 5:19Speaker 2: we had a bunch of family members and friends over. Well,
- 5:22Speaker 2: I mean, like he's really invite by the way, you're welcome. Yeah,
- 5:24Speaker 2: like family and friends, and Michael Bennett was not invited.
- 5:28Speaker 2: So I'm not family, nor am I a friend. Colleagues
- 5:30Speaker 2: weren't on that list a colleagues.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I'm a colleague.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I mean we worked together. Okay, all right, fine, but
- 5:37Speaker 3: you said you liked me.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I do. We're you know, we're we're friends. There you go.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I wasn't invited.
- 5:45Speaker 2: But like I've said before, her sister bakes and she made,
- 5:49Speaker 2: oh yeah, like hundreds of cookies for this really for
- 5:53Speaker 2: this event, and they're all on a trip this week,
- 5:56Speaker 2: so they're just at her house.
- 5:58Speaker 1: So I eat maybe ten cookies a day right now.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Wow, that's not good. You can't be doing that because
- 6:06Speaker 3: but they're good.
- 6:07Speaker 2: They're good, and they're just like if I'm ever like,
- 6:09Speaker 2: oh I could use a snack, I go in the kitchen.
- 6:11Speaker 1: There's like a hundred of them. Oh my gosh. Okay,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you know you think her sister would send a few
- 6:16Speaker 1: cookies Michael Bennett's way, because you know, if she did,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I would be mentioning her name on the radio show.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I can bring him in tomorrow and then guess what,
- 6:24Speaker 1: it hadn't happened, So therefore I'm not mentioning your name.
- 6:27Speaker 1: There's a bag of I can bring the bag. No,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I can't do it. I just can't. I mean, I uh,
- 6:35Speaker 1: last thing I need. I've turned to fruit. So I
- 6:38Speaker 1: mean I'm fruity Michael Bennett. Okay, we already knew that. Ah,
- 6:42Speaker 1: there we go. Okay, but all right, So I really
- 6:46Speaker 1: think the big news is not about Kentucky today. I
- 6:51Speaker 1: really think the big news of yesterday and today is
- 6:56Speaker 1: what is going on at the University of Michigan right now.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I mean that has become really the center of conversation
- 7:06Speaker 1: throughout the country because, if you haven't heard yet, Dusty made,
- 7:09Speaker 1: the head basketball coach for Michigan is no longer the
- 7:12Speaker 1: head coach of the University of Michigan. He's headed to
- 7:15Speaker 1: Dallas to be the head coach of the Mavericks in
- 7:18Speaker 1: the NBA. And I looked at this and I'm like, Okay,
- 7:22Speaker 1: here goes another college coach the NBA. How long is
- 7:26Speaker 1: it going to take him to learn that maybe I
- 7:29Speaker 1: should have stayed in college. This whole thing where college
- 7:33Speaker 1: coach is going to the NBA for the most part,
- 7:37Speaker 1: has not worked. Billy would you say Billy Donovan was
- 7:42Speaker 1: his success in the NBA somewhat? I mean kind of
- 7:47Speaker 1: like he has a good career, Like it's not like
- 7:48Speaker 1: he went in there and just burned out immediately. He didn't.
- 7:52Speaker 1: But what other college coach has gone from the NBA
- 7:58Speaker 1: are from college to the NBA succeeded?
- 8:00Speaker 2: I mean was okay? He was okay? He wasn't great.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Brad Stevens or is he today? Brad Stevens is probably
- 8:08Speaker 2: the only one. Is there anybody else? John cal Perry
- 8:13Speaker 2: wasn't successful. Rick Pattino I would say, was eh, And
- 8:19Speaker 2: Billy Donovan I would say, was he was okay?
- 8:23Speaker 1: I mean, there's not a lot. There's another I'm not
- 8:25Speaker 1: thinking of. There isn't so I I just if you
- 8:29Speaker 1: want to text me tell me who you think five
- 8:31Speaker 1: two four one four fourteen fifty on the Whiskey Feed
- 8:33Speaker 1: text line. You can do that. Oh, by the way,
- 8:35Speaker 1: you can listen to us on YouTube. You turned us
- 8:38Speaker 1: on YouTube, I think, didn't you. Yes, the camera's on.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But you can go to a Big X Sports radio
- 8:44Speaker 1: Louisville and then look at my uh good looking face.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I look good today. By the way, this is my
- 8:50Speaker 1: father's day President I have on today so brand new shirt.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I like it, very comfortable. All right, So what did
- 8:56Speaker 1: you think when you saw the news yesterday that Dusty
- 8:59Speaker 1: May was What was the first thing you thought of?
- 9:03Speaker 1: What the hell? Really? That's it?
- 9:06Speaker 2: I mean, in all honesty, the first thing I thought of,
- 9:12Speaker 2: yes was you know this was a coach that Louisville
- 9:14Speaker 2: and Kentucky were both.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was to the point.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Where, I mean there was reports that Louisville even had
- 9:21Speaker 2: press conferences set up for him and I'm ready to
- 9:24Speaker 2: go exactly was going to be the head coach.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Then he backed out.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I went to Michigan and the whole thing was, Okay,
- 9:30Speaker 2: is Pat Kelsey really the guy? Or is he just
- 9:32Speaker 2: a last minute grabbing this and that? And look, I
- 9:37Speaker 2: was having the mental debate of if I knew my
- 9:41Speaker 2: head coach was going to be gone in two seasons,
- 9:45Speaker 2: but he brought me a national championship? Is that okay
- 9:50Speaker 2: with me?
- 9:50Speaker 1: Well? Hold on, it doesn't end there. He comes there
- 9:53Speaker 1: for well really one season, wasn't it when he in Michigan?
- 9:56Speaker 1: Just one season? Or was it two. It was two Okay,
- 9:59Speaker 1: he was there two seas, when'd you h a national championship?
- 10:03Speaker 1: But that third season he's gone and your entire team
- 10:07Speaker 1: is most likely going to be gone. Yeah.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Do you want to start it all over for just
- 10:12Speaker 3: one national title? And that's what that's what was like
- 10:15Speaker 3: racking in my brain.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Yes, because when you hire Dusty May, you obviously know
- 10:20Speaker 2: that he's been to a Final four before, so he
- 10:22Speaker 2: has some pedigree, right, You obviously don't know you're gonna
- 10:25Speaker 2: win national championship in his first real season as your
- 10:28Speaker 2: head coach.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Yeah? Would I It's the same question here all the.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Time, like, hey, would you take one football championship for
- 10:36Speaker 2: nine years of basketball mediocrity?
- 10:38Speaker 1: Year? Would you know what I mean? Would you take? Yes?
- 10:39Speaker 2: You know it's that one that we always do in
- 10:41Speaker 2: radio all the time. Yeah, yeah, but it's real life.
- 10:44Speaker 2: So I was sitting here thinking if he came to Louisville.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I try to put myself as if we really got
- 10:48Speaker 2: Dusty May, if he brought me a championship in two years,
- 10:53Speaker 2: just to be getting a new coach again, would I
- 10:55Speaker 2: be okay with that?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Yes? I would? Would you really? Yes? I was? I
- 11:00Speaker 1: really I struggle with it, is it worth one title
- 11:04Speaker 1: and then go back straight to mediocrity. I really have
- 11:08Speaker 1: a hard time with that. Is it is it worth
- 11:11Speaker 1: number nine? To Michael Bennett.
- 11:12Speaker 2: See the way I thought about it this way, if
- 11:15Speaker 2: it was ten years ago, I would say it's not
- 11:18Speaker 2: worth it, because why getting a new coach is rebuilding
- 11:22Speaker 2: your entire program. It's starting from the ground up. There's
- 11:26Speaker 2: no like transfer portal, there's no anything like this. But
- 11:29Speaker 2: if you brought in Dusty May and you had him
- 11:32Speaker 2: for one and I we'll say one and a half season,
- 11:34Speaker 2: because their first season, that's not even their full roster.
- 11:36Speaker 2: It's a bunch of you know, band aided guys put together.
- 11:39Speaker 2: We'll say one and a half seasons, and he brings
- 11:42Speaker 2: you a championship in that second year. Not only is
- 11:46Speaker 2: it good onto him, it's you know, it's a good
- 11:48Speaker 2: resume piece, but it shows that your university is willing
- 11:51Speaker 2: to back whoever brings in there has the funds for,
- 11:54Speaker 2: it has the resources for, it has the infrastructure for
- 11:57Speaker 2: it to win at a high level immediately. So therefore,
- 12:02Speaker 2: if you're a younger coach coming up, or you're a
- 12:05Speaker 2: guy who has got who every single time is a
- 12:08Speaker 2: coach opening that you know, you're getting your phone calls
- 12:10Speaker 2: ringing off the hook like a Dan Hurley or something
- 12:14Speaker 2: like that. That school is now a place that you
- 12:18Speaker 2: probably woudn't land at, Like, hey, Dusty mat won a
- 12:21Speaker 2: championship with these guys in a year and a half.
- 12:23Speaker 2: It took them no time. If I went there, I
- 12:25Speaker 2: know I've already won one or two championships. They're gonna
- 12:28Speaker 2: give me whatever I want. They're gonna give me this,
- 12:29Speaker 2: They're gonna give me that. Whereas you know, okay, they've
- 12:32Speaker 2: won a championship before, but it's not been for like
- 12:34Speaker 2: twelve years. They've had the same coach, So yes, you
- 12:39Speaker 2: don't want to go through the coaching cycle again. But
- 12:42Speaker 2: at least Dusty may having that ability, Michigan having that
- 12:46Speaker 2: ability to win a championship that fast, just like Indiana football.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Now it has them on the map as like coaches
- 12:53Speaker 2: are gonna say, well, even though it's a football school,
- 12:57Speaker 2: they're willing to rendust like, I'll go there, so I
- 13:00Speaker 2: would take it. I would take the one championship.
- 13:02Speaker 1: But my problem is now you don't know of course,
- 13:06Speaker 1: they said the assistant coach, Mike Boyton is going to
- 13:08Speaker 1: take over. I don't know if that helps her not
- 13:12Speaker 1: keep the players there. But man, if I'm a player,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I didn't come to Michigan to play for Mike Boyton.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I came here to play for Dusty May. And I'm
- 13:22Speaker 1: to a point now because you know, once they named
- 13:24Speaker 1: the coach, which is which is? The interim coach has
- 13:27Speaker 1: already been named and it doesn't count, though, does it?
- 13:30Speaker 1: I think it has to be like a full does it. Really?
- 13:33Speaker 1: I don't think the interim coach counts, okay, so as
- 13:36Speaker 1: far as transfer portal for fifteen days.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Because if it does, then like that's a really bad
- 13:41Speaker 2: move on Michigan to just immediately announce a head coach,
- 13:44Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like they should have If
- 13:46Speaker 2: the interim coach counts towards that transfer portal for them,
- 13:51Speaker 2: that seems like they should have waited a little bit
- 13:53Speaker 2: so they get say, oh.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Who's available? Though, I mean, you were in this is
- 13:57Speaker 1: the first of July, and I know it's a week away,
- 14:01Speaker 1: but we're basically at July. Who are you going to
- 14:04Speaker 1: hire right now to be your head coach? And not
- 14:07Speaker 1: only that, how many players can you say from leaving
- 14:10Speaker 1: because I can tell you right now, I would think,
- 14:13Speaker 1: and this is purely guessed, vast majority of that team
- 14:17Speaker 1: would want to leave, probably somewhere else. You're gonna like.
- 14:20Speaker 2: The thing is, if you're a Michigan, you're set in
- 14:22Speaker 2: a situation where you are, Yes, you have a roster
- 14:28Speaker 2: and a bunch of guys who are coming back, but
- 14:31Speaker 2: you're gonna have to sell them on a new coach
- 14:33Speaker 2: exactly that you're going to have to buy out of
- 14:35Speaker 2: a contract now, right, So, not only did you just
- 14:38Speaker 2: spend however, let's say it seems like it's about an
- 14:41Speaker 2: average number. Now, the schools that are, you know, Michigan level,
- 14:45Speaker 2: Kentucky level, duke level, are spending upwards above twelve or
- 14:48Speaker 2: thirteen million dollars a year. Now, that's just where we're at. Right,
- 14:50Speaker 2: Let's say they spend fifteen, because I just want to
- 14:52Speaker 2: ask of brow these guys back. Not only you have
- 14:54Speaker 2: to spend that, you're probably gonna have to spend upwards
- 14:57Speaker 2: of ten plus million dollars to buy a code s
- 15:00Speaker 2: out of his contract to bring him in, because you
- 15:01Speaker 2: can't just go grab some mid major guy with a
- 15:04Speaker 2: three hundred thousand dollars buyout that the fans are not
- 15:07Speaker 2: gonna lie you do.
- 15:08Speaker 1: You just want a national championship. You can't go you
- 15:09Speaker 1: can't go.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Get a dude from go down Saint Margaret Mary of
- 15:13Speaker 3: the Woods and then hope that in three years you'll
- 15:16Speaker 3: get another good coach.
- 15:17Speaker 1: You have to win now.
- 15:18Speaker 2: So I don't know where they're going to get the
- 15:21Speaker 2: money from, but I guess it's the Big Ten.
- 15:24Speaker 1: They can do whatever they want. So well, Michigan doesn't
- 15:27Speaker 1: lack money, that's for certain, and they can't afford that.
- 15:30Speaker 1: But I just I look at this and I think, man,
- 15:33Speaker 1: can this be an Auburn situation where Bruce Pearl leaves
- 15:37Speaker 1: and his son takes over and they keep most of
- 15:40Speaker 1: the players, and look look how that turned out. They
- 15:44Speaker 1: want an n yep bee. I don't think it'll be
- 15:47Speaker 1: like that. You don't think it'll be like that. I
- 15:49Speaker 1: think it has every chance to be like that. I
- 15:51Speaker 1: don't think.
- 15:51Speaker 2: I mean, Dusky may had not been there long enough
- 15:53Speaker 2: to kind of build that like the trust and that
- 15:55Speaker 2: kind of staff, or it's like, you know, Bruce Pearl
- 15:58Speaker 2: been there forever, you know, like Stephen Burrows' son, he'd
- 16:01Speaker 2: been on his staff for an extended period of time
- 16:03Speaker 2: and there's like a trust between him and the university,
- 16:06Speaker 2: Like Dusty may I want James there year and a half,
- 16:09Speaker 2: you know what I mean? So like I don't think
- 16:11Speaker 2: that this the staff or I don't think university nor
- 16:14Speaker 2: the fans would be like I one hundred percent okay
- 16:16Speaker 2: with this guy that I just met last year being
- 16:19Speaker 2: our head coach for the foresee of a future.
- 16:21Speaker 1: They're gonna want some way they at least know the
- 16:22Speaker 1: name of Well, a lot of people were predicting that
- 16:25Speaker 1: Nicola Costa Rica as I like to say, Costa Rica
- 16:30Speaker 1: was going to be committing to Michigan. So now does
- 16:33Speaker 1: this put him back in play with Mark Pope and
- 16:36Speaker 1: you vers Kentucky. Yes, absolutely it does, and if if
- 16:41Speaker 1: if Mark Pope and Moe Williams can do their magic,
- 16:44Speaker 1: you know, girl a little more beard. By the way,
- 16:47Speaker 1: I think that has been the greatest thing for Mark
- 16:49Speaker 1: Pope and given him all kinds of confidence that uh
- 16:53Speaker 1: Nicola will come to UK. I hope, So that would
- 16:57Speaker 1: be a good late get for you UK. And with
- 17:01Speaker 1: Dusty Magone, I kind of feel like man UK should
- 17:05Speaker 1: have a good shot at that. I don't know, you're
- 17:07Speaker 1: coughing a whole lot, aren't you. Man?
- 17:08Speaker 2: I feel bad for you, like I mean, I don't
- 17:11Speaker 2: like feel sick, like it's not, it's just the fact
- 17:13Speaker 2: like there's I can just there's just so much like
- 17:15Speaker 2: mucus and stuff.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I'm just so congested. Yeah, I get it. I feel
- 17:19Speaker 1: bad for you. I mean, your eyes are real watery,
- 17:21Speaker 1: your nose is it and I mean, my goodness, every
- 17:24Speaker 1: everybody's watching you on YouTube. By the way, if you're watching,
- 17:27Speaker 1: you can go see how how bad this poor guy looks.
- 17:31Speaker 1: I mean, I wish I could give you the day.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I don't can just pay you anyway.
- 17:34Speaker 2: You know what if you do that, Michael, I'll invite
- 17:38Speaker 2: you to the second engagement.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Oh oh thanks, yeah, for all the sloppy seconds exactly.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I mean, I'm trying to think he would be the
- 17:48Speaker 1: sloppy second invite there, it'd be Michael Bennett top of
- 17:51Speaker 1: the list. Who else would be in the slot? I
- 17:53Speaker 1: bet you invited Roman to your party. Of course, of
- 17:56Speaker 1: course you did. And I've been friends with you longer
- 17:59Speaker 1: than Row.
- 18:00Speaker 3: That's not true, Okay, all right, I'm not Roman before
- 18:03Speaker 3: I met you, did you really?
- 18:04Speaker 1: Okay? All right? Then?
- 18:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I invited you come on my show and be
- 18:09Speaker 3: on my show, and I didn't even get roman. Okay,
- 18:13Speaker 3: all right, then what kind of hurts my feelings?
- 18:15Speaker 2: But what I didn't The thing is I didn't have
- 18:19Speaker 2: any friends though. It was literally just like my parents
- 18:22Speaker 2: and her parents and then her grandmother.
- 18:23Speaker 1: That's nice. I should have been invited, but I could be.
- 18:27Speaker 1: You know, Uncle Mike, You'll get invited to the wedding.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Just don't call me Big Mike. That's I'm not Big Mic,
- 18:31Speaker 1: that's somebody else. But anyway, Uh five oh two four
- 18:35Speaker 1: one four fourteen fifty one to text in on the
- 18:37Speaker 1: Whiskey Thief text line. If you want to call in,
- 18:39Speaker 1: he can did five O two three eight four fourteen fifty.
- 18:41Speaker 1: You can tweet me at just the Cat Radio. Uh.
- 18:44Speaker 1: When we get back. Uh, there's all kinds of stuff
- 18:48Speaker 1: going on. Uh, and I'm not sure where we want
- 18:51Speaker 1: to go. Do we want to talk NBA draft? Uh?
- 18:55Speaker 1: Do we want to talk about? Uh? Team Iran? I
- 18:59Speaker 1: know I say Iran, but the correct way to say
- 19:02Speaker 1: it is Iran. We'll talk about that. Uh. And Uh
- 19:06Speaker 1: uk Man, there was a stat that came out yesterday
- 19:10Speaker 1: which is pretty cool. UH. And it involves only one
- 19:14Speaker 1: school in this country and it happens to be UK.
- 19:16Speaker 1: We'll talk about that and then what the heck does
- 19:18Speaker 1: Dan Hurley want to do? Holy cow? Is this a
- 19:21Speaker 1: good idea or not? I don't know. Dan Hurley comes
- 19:24Speaker 1: up with some crazy stuff. So stay right there. A
- 19:26Speaker 1: lot more just the cats coming right up, just like
- 19:29Speaker 1: unagin Skim makes so crull.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Float like, oh, shout special, I see.
- 20:15Speaker 1: You play a good song. I let it play a
- 20:16Speaker 1: little longer because I like this song right here? Are
- 20:19Speaker 1: you a big band of creek? Yeah? Or did you?
- 20:23Speaker 1: Is it a song you have on your phone? Or no? Yeah?
- 20:26Speaker 1: It is okay because this seems like a song that
- 20:28Speaker 1: you would not have on your phone. It's not even
- 20:30Speaker 1: my favorite song named creep though, Oh what's your favorite
- 20:33Speaker 1: song named creep?
- 20:35Speaker 3: Oh?
- 20:35Speaker 1: Boy? Okay? Tender Love and Care Yeah, okay, I mean that.
- 20:42Speaker 1: That always takes me back to the movie. The other
- 20:44Speaker 1: guys come on, He's.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Like, you're saying it right now and you're literally quoting
- 20:49Speaker 2: TLC exactly.
- 20:52Speaker 3: I'm talking about man who is that actor by though,
- 20:56Speaker 3: Michael Keaton.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Michael Keaton is hilarious in that movie, and I, yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 1: I know what you're talking about. You can't say creep
- 21:05Speaker 1: three times without knowing you're referring to TLC.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I love that he gives him like his wooden gun
- 21:11Speaker 2: back in the middle of the movie, and he's like,
- 21:13Speaker 2: he's like, he even buffed it for you.
- 21:14Speaker 1: We might want to thank him. He took our shoes.
- 21:19Speaker 1: What a great movie.
- 21:21Speaker 2: My favorite comedy movie of all time? Is it really
- 21:24Speaker 2: not even close?
- 21:25Speaker 1: That would the other guys really? Yeah, every time I
- 21:28Speaker 1: do see it, all I have to watch it. I
- 21:29Speaker 1: would not say it's my favorite of all time. Probably mine.
- 21:33Speaker 1: It goes dates. It's probably Caddy Shack. I mean anything
- 21:36Speaker 1: with Bill Murray Caddie Shock is really good.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I just think it's it's one of those where like
- 21:42Speaker 2: all of the jokes hit exactly the same.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Everything, like every scene is quotable.
- 21:47Speaker 2: There's the one, like, my favorite scene in the whole
- 21:49Speaker 2: movie is when they're about to go to his girlfriend,
- 21:52Speaker 2: his ex girlfriend's house, and they're in that bar.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Oh my god, it keeps.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Turning around and singing the old World War two songs
- 21:58Speaker 2: and then we're continuing his story.
- 22:00Speaker 1: It's my favorite scene in the whole movie.
- 22:03Speaker 3: It's because mar Walmart just sits there and waits for
- 22:05Speaker 3: him to finish every time, and he goes, it's it's
- 22:07Speaker 3: it's I love it.
- 22:09Speaker 1: It's Christina. Are you coming to my house? You get
- 22:14Speaker 1: my wife's name, right? I bet there's only two people
- 22:19Speaker 1: out there that my wife will watch this movie with me.
- 22:22Speaker 1: It's like, do we have to watch this again? I
- 22:25Speaker 1: don't get this movie. I think only guys really like
- 22:28Speaker 1: this movie.
- 22:29Speaker 2: The underlying joke that every attractive woman ever loves him
- 22:33Speaker 2: is hilarious.
- 22:34Speaker 1: He's like, is that j loo? I do I love?
- 22:40Speaker 1: I just I love that movie. But anyway, let's get
- 22:43Speaker 1: to a couple of text five two four one four
- 22:45Speaker 1: fourteen fifty on the Whiskey Thief text line, Oh, how
- 22:49Speaker 1: guys said, I'm sure Tyler Hero is happy to leave
- 22:52Speaker 1: Miami to go back home to Wisconsin. Yeah. So, if
- 22:56Speaker 1: you haven't seen the news yet, Tyler Hero uh being
- 22:59Speaker 1: traded by Miami headed up to Milwaukee to play for
- 23:03Speaker 1: the Bucks. What did you think of that trade?
- 23:06Speaker 2: I mean, it doesn't really surprise me. Like the dude
- 23:09Speaker 2: who's played in Milwaukee forever. A lot of people want
- 23:12Speaker 2: to play in Miami just because it's Miami. Yes, And
- 23:16Speaker 2: the only thing is this kind of gave me the
- 23:19Speaker 2: vibes that Yannis is not really trying to compete for
- 23:21Speaker 2: a championship anymore because he's leaving Milwaukee, a team where
- 23:24Speaker 2: he's surrounded by young talent, Like it's not great, great, Yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 2: he's going for money. He's going for Miami because now
- 23:32Speaker 2: he's going to a team in Miami, he just has
- 23:34Speaker 2: nobody around him, not it's just him and basically Bam out.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Of Bayo, And I mean it's gonna be interesting.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Sam out of Biyo has been in the league for
- 23:43Speaker 3: a while now, Yeah, might probably be coming out of
- 23:46Speaker 3: his prime here.
- 23:47Speaker 2: So it's just you had a choice fort Miami or
- 23:50Speaker 2: the Celtics. One was gonna, you know, make you immediately
- 23:53Speaker 2: a contender in the East. The other one was immediately
- 23:55Speaker 2: going to give you a nice paycheck and give you
- 23:56Speaker 2: a nice house on the Bay. And he shows the
- 23:58Speaker 2: house on the Bay.
- 23:59Speaker 1: It's gonna be interesting to see what Tyler Hero's wife
- 24:01Speaker 1: thinks about this, because you know, she's isn't she from
- 24:04Speaker 1: Cuba or South America something? Now she's moving up to Wisconsin.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Holy cow? Yeah. Uh. And then in other news as
- 24:13Speaker 1: far as trades, uh, Julius Randall headed to you know,
- 24:18Speaker 1: he's kind of been He's render the next and then
- 24:20Speaker 1: he got traded to uh Minnesota Timberwolves. Now he's getting
- 24:24Speaker 1: traded to the Nets. Is that a good move for
- 24:27Speaker 1: him or is that just one of those exactly? Yeah,
- 24:31Speaker 1: I feel bad for him. The Nets.
- 24:33Speaker 2: The Nets is basically like the Cleveland Brown that's where
- 24:35Speaker 2: you go to just finish off and yeah, go out
- 24:37Speaker 2: to pasture.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, I just like this stinks, but uh,
- 24:41Speaker 1: you know, it's gonna come a day and time and
- 24:43Speaker 1: it's getting closer and closer where a lot of these
- 24:45Speaker 1: UK players are not gonna be playing uh much anymore.
- 24:49Speaker 1: You know. It's the one thing we've been happy about
- 24:50Speaker 1: in the NBA. Hey, I get to watch a UK player.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Oh yeah, such and such is on this team, and
- 24:56Speaker 1: it's it's it's getting closer where these players are like,
- 24:59Speaker 1: oh boy, uh, Josh texted out Freudy Michael Bennett. Now
- 25:03Speaker 1: we have Totty and Fruity in the Morning. Listen, Why
- 25:06Speaker 1: you can I do I do like that Touty and Fruity.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Do you like the name of that show? Yeah, Toty
- 25:12Speaker 1: and Freddy in the Morning. Yeah, that's not a bad name,
- 25:15Speaker 1: right though, Tudy, do you like the fact that people
- 25:18Speaker 1: still remember your nickname? Toutye follow me? Yeah? And that
- 25:21Speaker 1: god that was over a year ago, wasn't it. Yeah?
- 25:23Speaker 1: Pretty close that that was revealed. Uh Buzz texted out.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Current college free agency is much worse than NBA free agency.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Coaches feel like they can coach anyone. Why start over
- 25:35Speaker 1: every year with a new roster, take the NBA money
- 25:39Speaker 1: and run.
- 25:40Speaker 2: I mean that's what That's what Dusty May said yesterday.
- 25:42Speaker 2: He said that his the reason for him leaving is
- 25:44Speaker 2: not the money that could be whatever, Yeah, he says,
- 25:47Speaker 2: not the money. He says, it's because we don't know
- 25:49Speaker 2: where the stay of college basketball is gonna be in
- 25:51Speaker 2: five years. We don't know if it's gonna change. We
- 25:53Speaker 2: don't know if it's gonna stay the same, you know,
- 25:54Speaker 2: if it's gonna be get worse. And he left because
- 25:57Speaker 2: he wants to, you know, have job security.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we'll talk about some of the rule changes
- 26:01Speaker 1: that they're trying to come up in a few minutes.
- 26:03Speaker 1: But uh yeah, coaches don't. That's why you see so
- 26:06Speaker 1: many coaches that have gone out. They're just done. Nick
- 26:09Speaker 1: Saban left for a completely different reason. I'm gonna tell
- 26:11Speaker 1: you why. That's he had a stronghold on how he
- 26:16Speaker 1: was getting players to come to Alabama and uh, you
- 26:18Speaker 1: had to say Merzies miss dealership. It's well that too,
- 26:21Speaker 1: and it's going to be revealed one day how he
- 26:24Speaker 1: got so many players. Okay, even though I think ed
- 26:28Speaker 1: Orgeron definitely said it best, but we had money coming
- 26:31Speaker 1: into We got just as much money coming in the
- 26:33Speaker 1: front door as we did the back door. I mean,
- 26:35Speaker 1: it's just like that tells you everything you need to know.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Why is in the NCAA investigating that.
- 26:40Speaker 2: The thing about me, The thing about the situation for
- 26:42Speaker 2: me is it makes me feel like his situation like
- 26:47Speaker 2: ed Orgeron, you know, has been open about it. There's
- 26:49Speaker 2: been coaches all around college football that have been open
- 26:51Speaker 2: that they did stuff before in basketball the same way.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Who was then the Kentucky player or whatever that was
- 26:58Speaker 2: on like a podcast couple months ago, like, of course
- 27:00Speaker 2: we used to pay players back then.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember that. I don't remember who it was.
- 27:04Speaker 1: I forgot who it was.
- 27:05Speaker 2: But he says as a joke too, and people are like, ah,
- 27:07Speaker 2: of course makes sense. The thing with Alabama is he
- 27:11Speaker 2: is going against him. He's working so hard to kill
- 27:15Speaker 2: the narrative was Nick Saban. Nick Saban's working so hard
- 27:23Speaker 2: every time the joke is brought up against Alabama, He's
- 27:26Speaker 2: defending it with his life.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it gives me the feeling that some really weird.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Stuff was going on over there, and he's trying to
- 27:32Speaker 2: like cover it up because everybody else is being opened
- 27:35Speaker 2: that like, yeah, of course we used to pay players.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Aha, we do in the front door. What are they
- 27:39Speaker 1: gonna do right now?
- 27:40Speaker 2: Nick Saban is defending it as if like his legacy is.
- 27:45Speaker 1: On the line, the line.
- 27:47Speaker 3: But if but if he came out and was like,
- 27:49Speaker 3: of course he used to pay players, nobody's gonna careybody's
- 27:52Speaker 3: Everybody's like, well, we knew that, we kind of figured.
- 27:54Speaker 3: But the way he's so defensive about it, Pete Roads
- 27:59Speaker 3: makes me feel like there's like underlying things that were
- 28:02Speaker 3: going on besides paying players much worse exactly, That's what
- 28:05Speaker 3: makes me feel.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm the same way. It's I just hope somebody
- 28:09Speaker 1: comes out with.
- 28:10Speaker 2: It, because every time someone comes at him, he looks awkward,
- 28:13Speaker 2: he looks uncomfortable about it.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Yeah, who is the comedian that said it? On game
- 28:19Speaker 1: daye Shane Gillis and I thought it was hilarious and
- 28:22Speaker 1: Nick Saban he should have laughed along to me. The
- 28:26Speaker 1: way he reacted told me everything I needed to know,
- 28:30Speaker 1: told me that he was looking at it. It's like
- 28:32Speaker 1: that's guilt. You can't defend it anymore. Just say it, Yeah,
- 28:37Speaker 1: we did it. I mean, he's so afraid that people
- 28:40Speaker 1: are going to think that he wasn't the greatest coach
- 28:42Speaker 1: because he ended up paying players and we all found
- 28:46Speaker 1: out about well we're not finding out about it. We
- 28:48Speaker 1: know it. Just come out and say it. There's gonna
- 28:51Speaker 1: be books. I think it'll hurt Nick Saban's legacy is
- 28:55Speaker 1: what he'll do. And that one minute definitely was a
- 28:58Speaker 1: chink in the chain when Shane Gillis was making fun
- 29:02Speaker 1: of him and he didn't laugh at all and got
- 29:03Speaker 1: mad at chance. Dude, it's just a joke.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean I'm not saying he has to
- 29:07Speaker 2: literally come out and say of course we used to
- 29:09Speaker 2: pay players and like just like some of the other
- 29:11Speaker 2: but like you said, when people joke about it or
- 29:13Speaker 2: something like that, like, bro, just laugh at all, Like
- 29:15Speaker 2: you don't have to be so defensive and uncomfortable about it.
- 29:18Speaker 1: One person said, Michael, where will the Michigan players go?
- 29:21Speaker 1: Who has money left? Oh, that's a fair question. I'm
- 29:26Speaker 1: sure there's people out there that could find money for him.
- 29:30Speaker 1: So you just call a couple of boosters and boom,
- 29:32Speaker 1: you got it. I just don't think the money's gonna
- 29:36Speaker 1: be the problem. Now. It's becoming the problem that U
- 29:38Speaker 1: of L. Have you seen? This is five years in
- 29:41Speaker 1: a row, the University of Louisville is in a deficit.
- 29:46Speaker 1: They're reporting right now that U of L is in
- 29:48Speaker 1: a thirty million dollar deficit deficit for their athletic department. Yep,
- 29:53Speaker 1: that's just the new norm, isn't it. And that's just
- 29:56Speaker 1: not U of L. That's gonna be every athletic department
- 29:59Speaker 1: out there. No, that's that's just how it is. Louisville
- 30:01Speaker 1: is just one of the ones to step up.
- 30:03Speaker 2: And they basically were like, look, this is how college
- 30:06Speaker 2: sports are.
- 30:07Speaker 1: We're gonna show you our numbers to show you how
- 30:09Speaker 1: this is.
- 30:09Speaker 2: This is literally not physically possible to get to sustain
- 30:13Speaker 2: unless you're one of the like five schools in the
- 30:15Speaker 2: country like Ohio State or like Alabama or Michigan.
- 30:19Speaker 1: You know, I don't think Alabama's there, but.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I like one of those ones that like you know,
- 30:23Speaker 2: has like like LSU or something, has that money almost
- 30:26Speaker 2: all the time. It's gonna come to the point where
- 30:29Speaker 2: like only those schools can compete for anything, right because
- 30:31Speaker 2: they're the only ones that have money left. Even the
- 30:33Speaker 2: schools in the SEC are gonna have to hit this
- 30:35Speaker 2: at some point. Even the big ten schools are gonna
- 30:37Speaker 2: hit this at some point. It's just like it it's you.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Something needs to be done because this is not possible.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Like I I hate to see it, but I don't
- 30:47Speaker 2: hate on Josh Hurd for the decision he made.
- 30:49Speaker 1: He basically is saying, look, no, I admire Josh coming
- 30:53Speaker 1: out and saying.
- 30:54Speaker 2: He basically was like, look, we had two options. We
- 30:56Speaker 2: can either not pay anybody and suck for a long
- 30:59Speaker 2: time yeah and hope that regulations come in that make
- 31:02Speaker 2: us relevant later. Or we basically borrow money hope that
- 31:06Speaker 2: we win. You know, that's a risk, because the thing
- 31:11Speaker 2: is isn't it's a huge risk. It's it's a lose
- 31:13Speaker 2: lose situation either way. But at least you have the
- 31:16Speaker 2: opportunity to make the money back. You know what, I mean,
- 31:18Speaker 2: if you chose the other way, then you chose to
- 31:21Speaker 2: to save your money and and then pray to God
- 31:24Speaker 2: the government or something steps in or n c A
- 31:26Speaker 2: steps in and fixes this the chances of your fans
- 31:31Speaker 2: coming back, because who knows how long that's gonna take.
- 31:34Speaker 1: That's the one thing about to me, there's a difference
- 31:37Speaker 1: between UK and U of L fan bases. I think
- 31:40Speaker 1: UK sticks around a lot longer, where U of L
- 31:44Speaker 1: that that fan base leaves quickly. And I think there's
- 31:48Speaker 1: a difference. And here's the difference. And this is not
- 31:50Speaker 1: a knock on U of L. I promise you it's not.
- 31:54Speaker 1: The difference is you get UK fans from a lot
- 31:59Speaker 1: of small areas throughout Kentucky, and there's not much to
- 32:03Speaker 1: do in those areas, whereas that U of L, most
- 32:05Speaker 1: of the UFL fan base is right here in Louisville,
- 32:08Speaker 1: and there's lots of other things to do in Louisville.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Then just to sit here and watch a team that
- 32:12Speaker 1: really is not very good. So guess what, I'm gonna
- 32:15Speaker 1: go do something else. I think that's where U of
- 32:17Speaker 1: L is. It's a little riskier there. I mean, whereas
- 32:22Speaker 1: the fan base is a little.
- 32:23Speaker 2: I think you're also in a different situation where, if
- 32:25Speaker 2: you put it, let's say Kentucky and Louisville where both
- 32:28Speaker 2: in the exact same situation where they both chose to say.
- 32:31Speaker 1: You know what, we are not paying players right now.
- 32:34Speaker 2: We're gonna wait for the NCAA to step in and
- 32:37Speaker 2: regulate all this, and then we'll start, you know, building
- 32:40Speaker 2: the money forward. Like both schools at the same time,
- 32:42Speaker 2: did it. I will agree with you, Kentucky fans would
- 32:45Speaker 2: stick around a little bit longer, even though it'd still
- 32:47Speaker 2: be terrible. Yes, But I think the sole fact of
- 32:50Speaker 2: that is because of the ten year fallout that Louisville
- 32:53Speaker 2: has already gone through. Yeah, Like it's like, why would
- 32:56Speaker 2: I already waited ten years for my team be good again?
- 32:59Speaker 2: Why would I wait five more? I'm just gonna move on.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Kentucky never had to go through that. Fair you have
- 33:05Speaker 2: a little bit of a buffer zone. Yeah, you're right
- 33:07Speaker 2: about that. It just it just makes it tough. The uh,
- 33:11Speaker 2: the part that worries me the most. We talk about
- 33:14Speaker 2: these schools that will have the money. I've said it
- 33:17Speaker 2: before and I'll say it again. Within the sec I
- 33:20Speaker 2: worry about Vanderbilt because Vanderbilt, first of all, they're private,
- 33:25Speaker 2: so they don't have to disclose what kind of money
- 33:26Speaker 2: they have or don't have. Second of all, I think
- 33:29Speaker 2: they have a lot of sneaky money out there, and
- 33:31Speaker 2: the alumnists are really supporting this program. All of a sudden,
- 33:35Speaker 2: they saw the success that Vandbelt football had with Diego
- 33:39Speaker 2: Pavia and Bradley.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Has it really going on now? You see some success
- 33:43Speaker 1: with the basketball program. I worry about Vanderbilt getting a
- 33:47Speaker 1: lot of money and from their alumnus and they've becoming
- 33:52Speaker 1: a successful team. You can laugh at me all you want,
- 33:54Speaker 1: but I'll tell you that could happen. I worry about
- 33:57Speaker 1: that with Duke, and I worry about that with Notre Dame.
- 34:02Speaker 1: So there's your schools right there that could be the
- 34:07Speaker 1: unbelievable teams of the future because they can get alumnus
- 34:12Speaker 1: to give money without just flip off a switch. Hey,
- 34:15Speaker 1: So for the Ohalo guy that asked me a couple
- 34:17Speaker 1: of minutes ago, who has money left? I bet you
- 34:19Speaker 1: those schools still have money.
- 34:21Speaker 3: See.
- 34:21Speaker 2: The thing that frightens me and that I'm worried about,
- 34:23Speaker 2: is that this stuff drags on too long and it
- 34:27Speaker 2: comes to the point where now the NCAA can't do
- 34:29Speaker 2: anything about it, and it's just those you know, top
- 34:31Speaker 2: tier schools that have money left and they just own
- 34:34Speaker 2: college sports. It's basically like they're the ruling power because
- 34:37Speaker 2: they have all the money. And it comes down to
- 34:39Speaker 2: like the SEC and the Big Ten have a super conference,
- 34:42Speaker 2: and then all the other schools and all the other
- 34:44Speaker 2: conferences don't mean anything because they're out of money. They
- 34:47Speaker 2: can't afford to do this anymore. So then ninety percent
- 34:51Speaker 2: of college sports is wiped out. There's like a sixteen
- 34:53Speaker 2: team inca tournament, there's like a there's their own college
- 34:56Speaker 2: ball playoff all over again.
- 34:58Speaker 1: That's only the Big Tennessee c And that's what we're
- 35:01Speaker 1: gonna go to.
- 35:02Speaker 2: If this doesn't get regulated, that's what will happen because
- 35:04Speaker 2: there's just not enough schools that can afford to do
- 35:07Speaker 2: this with how much there's how much the interest is
- 35:12Speaker 2: accrued every single year.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Well, you know what schools have the largest endowment that
- 35:15Speaker 1: could really succeed if they wanted to the IVY League.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Think about the IVY League. All of those schools probably
- 35:22Speaker 1: have into the billions in endowments. So if they wanted
- 35:26Speaker 1: to really get into sports, they could go out and
- 35:29Speaker 1: pay as much as they wanted. Can you imagine, you know,
- 35:31Speaker 1: back in the early nineteen hundreds, Harvard and Yale were
- 35:34Speaker 1: some of the best college football programs in the country,
- 35:37Speaker 1: and yet they could get back into it and be
- 35:39Speaker 1: that team again. Can you imagine Harvard and Yale getting
- 35:42Speaker 1: out there and being the lights of Ohio State Michigan.
- 35:46Speaker 1: That would be just hilarious to me. I wouldn't like it.
- 35:49Speaker 1: I'll crazy one, I think.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Oh no, the best college football teams on the planet, Yes,
- 35:54Speaker 2: would be Army and Navy.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Oh wow, government funded, government funded.
- 35:59Speaker 2: The only reason then they're not good is because they
- 36:01Speaker 2: have height and weight limits for their players.
- 36:03Speaker 3: Wow.
- 36:05Speaker 1: And don't forget air Force. Air Force. Air Force would
- 36:07Speaker 1: be a really another read one. Yeah, well, all the
- 36:10Speaker 1: military schools. You have bm I and Virginia Virginia Military Academy,
- 36:14Speaker 1: you have Air Force, Army, Navy, and you have Citadel
- 36:19Speaker 1: down in Charleston, South Carolina.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Like imagine if it came out and trumb was like,
- 36:24Speaker 3: one billion dollars of our three trillion dollar military fund
- 36:28Speaker 3: is going to college football.
- 36:32Speaker 1: They We're gonna play every game in the white.
- 36:33Speaker 2: House front lawnch Army Navy is in the National Championship
- 36:36Speaker 2: every season.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that's hilarious. All right, Uh, we gotta
- 36:39Speaker 1: take another break. When we come back. I want to
- 36:41Speaker 1: talk about this idea that Dan Hurley came up with
- 36:44Speaker 1: when uh Yukon plays Duke. Stay right there more just
- 36:48Speaker 1: cats coming right up? Fable two three four fourteen fifty.
- 37:33Speaker 1: You want to call fable two four one four fourteen fifty.
- 37:35Speaker 1: You want to text in on the whisky t text line.
- 37:37Speaker 1: One person, did I read this? I bet the Michigan
- 37:39Speaker 1: players have stipulations. I did not read that. I did
- 37:42Speaker 1: not read that. Oh, how guys said, I bet the
- 37:44Speaker 1: Michigan players have stipulations in their NIL deals that they
- 37:48Speaker 1: can't transfer. I but that would mean that they would
- 37:55Speaker 1: have a contract.
- 37:55Speaker 2: That would go against NCAA rules exactly because there's a
- 37:58Speaker 2: genuine rule in place and transfer or that if your
- 38:00Speaker 2: coach leaves, it opens the transfer portal for fifteen days.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Yeah. So I don't think so as far as that,
- 38:07Speaker 1: Ohio guy, I think I think they'll be completely open
- 38:10Speaker 1: to leave if they want to, because that is one
- 38:12Speaker 1: of the rule changes that is everyone has made very clear.
- 38:16Speaker 1: If your coach leaves, it opens up everything that.
- 38:20Speaker 2: I mean there there might be stipulations in their contract
- 38:23Speaker 2: that say that, well.
- 38:23Speaker 1: They're in our INIL deals, but who cares.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's say they're technically on for two seasons or
- 38:29Speaker 2: something like that. I could see that, But I think
- 38:31Speaker 2: as soon as your coach leaves, all that stuff is
- 38:32Speaker 2: no on.
- 38:33Speaker 1: All bets are off exactly. Otherwise, they're going to have
- 38:36Speaker 1: a contract and guess what, they become an employee of
- 38:38Speaker 1: the University of Michigan or whatever university go to. And
- 38:41Speaker 1: these universities are really against having contracts and making these
- 38:47Speaker 1: athletes employees because that's going to cost a whole lot
- 38:51Speaker 1: more money. You're talking about a different situation from that standpoint.
- 38:55Speaker 1: So I think all bets are off as far as
- 38:57Speaker 1: that goes. Josh texs it out is so is the
- 39:00Speaker 1: one that said we paid players. That's right. It was
- 39:02Speaker 1: dan Isel that did that. I don't remember what podcast
- 39:08Speaker 1: that was. Yeah, I don't remember, I remember somebody, but
- 39:10Speaker 1: I'm positive that was the one. It was dan Isel,
- 39:12Speaker 1: So thank you, Josh. I appreciate that. One person said.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Mashburn stated on TV that he got in IL when
- 39:19Speaker 1: he attended UK. I didn't know that. That's first time
- 39:23Speaker 1: I've heard that. But interesting. Okay, well, thank you for
- 39:26Speaker 1: letting me know, letting me know that. Yeah, I know
- 39:29Speaker 1: there was a lot of those what one hundred dollars handshakes.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I know there were a lot of those supposed jobs
- 39:36Speaker 1: that players would have at horse farms, and sometimes they
- 39:40Speaker 1: show up, sometimes they wouldn't, but they still get paid.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I get it. I mean, it's just one of those things.
- 39:46Speaker 1: But I do want to talk about this. So what's
- 39:50Speaker 1: his name? John Rothstein said his name? Yeah. Released yesterday
- 39:55Speaker 1: the home and away games for UK. Within the s
- 40:00Speaker 1: you see, let me go through the home slate, let
- 40:02Speaker 1: me go through the SEC road slate for UK, and
- 40:06Speaker 1: then we'll I want you to tell me what you
- 40:08Speaker 1: think about it. Uh So, the three games that UK
- 40:11Speaker 1: is going to play home and away are Tennessee, Vanderbilt,
- 40:17Speaker 1: and Old Miss. Then on the home slate where they're
- 40:20Speaker 1: only playing these teams once, it's Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, LSU,
- 40:27Speaker 1: Texas A and M South Carolina. Now on the away
- 40:30Speaker 1: slate for in the SEC schedule again it's Tennessee, Vanderbilt,
- 40:34Speaker 1: Old Miss. So they're gonna see Uh. Uh Tennessee twice,
- 40:38Speaker 1: which I like, going back to Knoxville, and the UK
- 40:41Speaker 1: has swept them the past what's now two or three
- 40:45Speaker 1: seasons and got Vanderbilt in Nashville, Old Miss down in Oxford,
- 40:50Speaker 1: at Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. Uh.
- 40:59Speaker 1: What game sticks out to you on the home slate Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Ole,
- 41:03Speaker 1: miss Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Texta, and in South Carolina
- 41:08Speaker 1: that you kind of mark it downs, like, Okay, that's
- 41:12Speaker 1: the game I want to see. Is it the second
- 41:14Speaker 1: time for John cal Perry to come to Reperena. No? Really,
- 41:19Speaker 1: I feel like I have we not moved on from
- 41:21Speaker 1: this already. I don't know.
- 41:23Speaker 2: I think he's gonna play at Reparerena thirty five times
- 41:25Speaker 2: and every single time we're like John cal Perry coming
- 41:27Speaker 2: to Reperena, like at some point we got it, Like
- 41:29Speaker 2: the breakup has to be a breakup.
- 41:31Speaker 1: I get the I get what you're saying, and I
- 41:33Speaker 1: agree with you. But on the other hand, I feel
- 41:36Speaker 1: like UK has to beat them on their home court. Well,
- 41:40Speaker 1: last time Arkansas came to Lexington, Arkansas won. Of course,
- 41:48Speaker 1: they played last year UK goes to Arkansas, UK wins.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Don't you feel like that's the one game that UK
- 41:56Speaker 1: fans are gonna mark down because now they want to
- 41:59Speaker 1: beat cal on their own floor.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I mean I hope not, but like the way UK
- 42:06Speaker 2: fans are, Yeah, it's the one they're on to mark down.
- 42:07Speaker 1: All right, So it's probably so you're probably gonna see Alabama.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Then now I'm gonna say Tennessee Tennessee really over nat
- 42:13Speaker 1: oates in Alabama. Yeah, I think Tennessee interesting. Why do
- 42:16Speaker 1: you see Tennessee?
- 42:17Speaker 2: Kentucky swept them, like you said, back to back seasons.
- 42:19Speaker 2: It's gonna be one where, look, Rick Barnes made three
- 42:22Speaker 2: consecutive Elite eights. The question is why can't you beat
- 42:25Speaker 2: this mediocre Kentucky team? Ever you've every single time you've
- 42:28Speaker 2: lost to them, it's a major blown lead. It's not
- 42:32Speaker 2: like you got beat you know, wired a wire. It
- 42:35Speaker 2: wasn't like it was a close game. You're up seventeen
- 42:37Speaker 2: points here, fourteen points, you're up twenty points well, and
- 42:39Speaker 2: then you keep blowing them away. So it's one where
- 42:42Speaker 2: if I'm Rick Barnes, I get them on a lifetime contract.
- 42:45Speaker 2: But you need to go into up Perena and beat
- 42:46Speaker 2: this team, like you need to somehow understand you need
- 42:49Speaker 2: to beat this our older brother you have so you
- 42:52Speaker 2: can finally have some respect on the SEC, because I mean,
- 42:55Speaker 2: as good as they are, nobody is scared of that team,
- 42:59Speaker 2: like every single season, like they make the early Day,
- 43:01Speaker 2: but nobody in the SEC is terrified of that team.
- 43:03Speaker 2: And that's where Bardnes is a problem. So, uh, from
- 43:06Speaker 2: the Kentucky fans standpoint, it's definitely not Tennessee. If I'm
- 43:10Speaker 2: a Tennessee fan thinking of like all the like, that's
- 43:13Speaker 2: my most important game of the season.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Well, I see, I get it from a Tennessee standpoint.
- 43:17Speaker 1: You're exactly right. I think from the Tennessee standpoint, that
- 43:21Speaker 1: is a game they have marked down. It's Kentucky and
- 43:23Speaker 1: Lexington and Kentucky and Knoxville.
- 43:26Speaker 2: For that fact, you have a guy on a lifetime
- 43:28Speaker 2: contract that literally you cannot beat Mark Pope.
- 43:31Speaker 1: That's that'd be a problem. Yeah, all right, let's talk
- 43:34Speaker 1: about the road slate. Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Old miss Florida, Georgia,
- 43:39Speaker 1: Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas. I know which one I
- 43:43Speaker 1: have marked down, and it's Florida. I want to go
- 43:48Speaker 1: down there and beat Florida that because Florida fans are
- 43:52Speaker 1: really feeling like, oh, we dominate UK. Not really a
- 43:55Speaker 1: big game does anymore? Well, I think it's important that
- 43:59Speaker 1: they go down there and uh and show up in
- 44:03Speaker 1: Gainesville and come away with a win. What are you thinking?
- 44:09Speaker 3: Hmm?
- 44:10Speaker 2: If I had to really make a guess and this
- 44:13Speaker 2: is like the Kentucky fans standpoint, yes, you're right, it's
- 44:16Speaker 2: probably Florida because, like you said, Todd Golden I don't
- 44:18Speaker 2: think has lost to them yet.
- 44:19Speaker 1: No, And you know he left Repperenda last year, remember
- 44:23Speaker 1: towards the end of the game and he made that
- 44:25Speaker 1: comic get the blank out of here, and he was
- 44:27Speaker 1: yelling at the yelling at the I suppose he was
- 44:30Speaker 1: yelling at the fans. But that's you're kind of getting
- 44:33Speaker 1: a little bit of cocky Todd Golden out there.
- 44:35Speaker 4: Now.
- 44:35Speaker 1: I don't think that set well with a lot of
- 44:38Speaker 1: UK fans, the UK basketball team, and the coaching staff.
- 44:42Speaker 2: If I'm looking outside in in the game that I
- 44:44Speaker 2: think is most important, I think it's the road game
- 44:48Speaker 2: against Vanderbilt.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Really, that's you've picked two surprise ones for me. I
- 44:53Speaker 1: like this.
- 44:54Speaker 2: I think that you kind of made the point earlier
- 44:55Speaker 2: and you've all seen it coming that. You know, Vanderbilt
- 44:58Speaker 2: has a lot of money. You're right, has been un
- 45:00Speaker 2: tapped for a long time until an Aisle started. Vanderbilt's
- 45:02Speaker 2: coming up in every single sport right now, and it's
- 45:05Speaker 2: kind of becoming like a passing of the torch of
- 45:08Speaker 2: who's gonna be, you know, the better team, maybe not
- 45:10Speaker 2: the best team in the SEC, but second or third, And.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Vanderbilt is kind of passing Kentucky at this point. You
- 45:16Speaker 1: know that it seems like they're spending their money a
- 45:18Speaker 1: little bit better. I think that. I think that Mark
- 45:22Speaker 1: what's his last name? Oh crap, who the coaching? Yeah,
- 45:26Speaker 1: their head coach right now.
- 45:28Speaker 2: I think their head I think he's done a better
- 45:30Speaker 2: job than Mark Pope has in his short tenure there
- 45:32Speaker 2: so far. I think they're bringing better recruits at this moment.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Byington Buyington, Mark Byington. It's kind of, like I said,
- 45:40Speaker 2: kind of a passing of the torch. It's one where
- 45:42Speaker 2: if you're Mark Pope and you can go into Vanderbilt
- 45:44Speaker 2: and get a win. I know you beat them last
- 45:45Speaker 2: year on your home floor, but you got blasted by
- 45:48Speaker 2: them on their home floor that they look like a
- 45:50Speaker 2: bona fide possible Final four team going to the tournament.
- 45:52Speaker 1: It's a team that's growing quickly.
- 45:54Speaker 2: If you can go in there and beat them on
- 45:55Speaker 2: their home floor and kind of cement yourself as like, hey,
- 45:57Speaker 2: I'm still Kentucky in the SEC, that's a big win.
- 46:01Speaker 1: What do you think as far as their record in
- 46:04Speaker 1: the SEC? Do you do you think they'll have middle
- 46:07Speaker 1: of the pack record above or below? I mean, you
- 46:13Speaker 1: look at Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Old Miss, Arkansas, A right, Tennessee.
- 46:17Speaker 1: You think it's gonna be a win for them? For
- 46:19Speaker 1: UK in Lexington? Yes, I think they trade one on
- 46:22Speaker 1: one this season. All right, Vanderbilt in Lexington, goll Your
- 46:28Speaker 1: hesitation is making me nervous.
- 46:30Speaker 2: I'm actually they don't be Vanderbilt really all right? Old Miss?
- 46:35Speaker 1: I think so too. Arkansas? So uh he comes back
- 46:38Speaker 1: to Lexington. Can UK Mark Pope beat John cal Perry
- 46:42Speaker 1: and the Razorbacks.
- 46:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna say, yes, they don't have Darious Aup anymore.
- 46:46Speaker 1: All Right? Alabama? Can UK beat Nate oats Auburn? That
- 46:53Speaker 1: should be a easy l s U. I think should
- 46:56Speaker 1: be athlt you Texas A and m I don't know.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Bucket ball is really nice, but I think he's up
- 47:04Speaker 2: and coming right now. I think he's doing a good job.
- 47:06Speaker 2: I'm gonna say Kentucky wins out.
- 47:07Speaker 1: I think so too. Uh in South Carolina, it's gotta
- 47:11Speaker 1: be a win. So you got him one one loss
- 47:13Speaker 1: or two losses. I forget you had two losses. I
- 47:15Speaker 1: have one loss at home. That's pretty good right there.
- 47:19Speaker 1: All right, we'll talk about the away when we come back. Plus,
- 47:21Speaker 1: I think Corey Price is coming, and do you know
- 47:23Speaker 1: we'll talk about him. Yeah, we'll hopefully see him in
- 47:26Speaker 1: a minute. They're right there. Our two are just cut
- 47:28Speaker 1: cats coming right up. Welcome to Just the Cats with
- 47:45Speaker 1: Michael Bennett. All right, we're number two and Just the
- 47:51Speaker 1: Cats on this Tuesday, and Matthew joining us. Now I'm
- 47:56Speaker 1: hesitant to him, come on, he's already given me knocks
- 47:59Speaker 1: on on the side here. It's like, my gosh. I
- 48:02Speaker 1: was showing him a horse that uh that I was
- 48:07Speaker 1: able to get last week down to no callin and
- 48:09Speaker 1: he said, oh, I like the gray horses, just like you.
- 48:13Speaker 1: You're gray hair. It's like, wow, thanks alive. Corey Price.
- 48:17Speaker 1: But it's Tuesday. Corey Price is here with us today.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Oh he did it. There we go. Wow, he didn't
- 48:32Speaker 1: play it long enough. But that's okay.
- 48:33Speaker 2: And by the way, okay, well not playing it anymore.
- 48:36Speaker 2: That wasn't good enough for you this time.
- 48:40Speaker 3: I did not ruin anything. It's it's just kind of funny.
- 48:43Speaker 3: He finds it and he's and he's about to leave
- 48:45Speaker 3: for I know. Well, the good news is we have
- 48:49Speaker 3: hired a new producer. Yeah, and he starts what day
- 48:53Speaker 3: does he start?
- 48:53Speaker 1: The fifth? No, you're asking me, I don't know who
- 48:56Speaker 1: this new guy is.
- 48:57Speaker 3: Uh, but all right, so I think you're talking about
- 49:02Speaker 3: July the sixth. Yes, it's it's the guy we all
- 49:07Speaker 3: are talking about. Yeah, so it's great news. He's not
- 49:09Speaker 3: a new producer. No, it's that's not giving away now.
- 49:13Speaker 3: But anyway, I'm excited. What no spoilers, right, No.
- 49:18Speaker 1: No, absolutely not, because I want this person to come
- 49:21Speaker 1: back and announce it himself. He's going to join us

- 54:47Speaker 1: Was it really so just three years ago? And then
- 54:49Speaker 1: they're done? Now they're done? Yeah, that's so sad. Always
- 54:52Speaker 1: wanted a box of popcorn that's made of gold. That's
- 54:55Speaker 1: pretty cool. Yeah.
- 54:57Speaker 3: June twenty third, nineteen eighty nine, the comedy film Honey,

- 56:00Speaker 3: Matt that's the one with what's his name in Austin Butler. Yeah,
- 56:05Speaker 3: he's a good actor. It was in that World War

- 56:12Speaker 3: but I'm sorry, go ahead.
- 56:13Speaker 1: It was. It was okay, fun. I think it was

- 56:17Speaker 3: Fact, I went to the last film that ended at
- 56:22Speaker 3: Village eight, which was Elvis, really Elvis on July fifth,

- 57:08Speaker 1: of rom coms. I like, Yeah, there's a lot of them.
- 57:12Speaker 1: I like, that was definitely one of them. I would
- 57:14Speaker 1: probably put when Harry met Sally as one of those
- 57:17Speaker 1: that seemed to always have Meg Ryan. Yeah, you've got mail.
- 57:22Speaker 1: That's another good one. Yeah, because it had one of
- 57:24Speaker 1: my all time favorite comedic actors in that one. And
- 57:29Speaker 1: I can't think of his name, Tom Hanks's dad in
- 57:32Speaker 1: that movie. I'll tell you in a minute. So.

- 58:25Speaker 1: The Hurt Great movie? Yes? It won huge hurt Locker
- 58:28Speaker 1: Loss Awards. Did you see it, Matt, I've not seen
- 58:32Speaker 1: that movie. It's pretty good.
- 58:33Speaker 3: Directed by Catherine Bigelow, stars Ray Fines, Brian Girardi, Evangeline Lily,
- 58:42Speaker 3: Anthony Mackie, David Morse, Guy Pearce and Jeremy Rinner. Didn't
- 58:48Speaker 3: do well in The Boss. Talk was film Grocer Property's
- 58:51Speaker 3: seventeen million dollars domestically making at the one hundred and
- 58:55Speaker 3: sixteenth highest person film of two thousand and nine, but

- 59:28Speaker 1: see that, Michael never heard of it. You've never heard
- 59:31Speaker 1: of Wally. No, I've never heard of Wally. It's actually,
- 59:34Speaker 1: in my opinion, the best Pixar movie ever made. Really.
- 59:36Speaker 1: Oh wow, okay, good watch. I think it has my
- 59:41Speaker 1: favorite message of all of them. What's the message.
- 59:43Speaker 2: It's just it's like an eco friendly message, like we're
- 59:46Speaker 2: destroying the planet and Wally is like infinitely having to
- 59:49Speaker 2: clean it up for us and.
- 59:50Speaker 3: Stuff like that. Are we destroying the planet? Take care
- 59:53Speaker 3: of our planet? Michael, please?
- 59:54Speaker 1: Okay?
- 59:55Speaker 3: All right? Directed by Andrew Stanton, features the voices of
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: Ben Burt, Jeff Garland, Alyssa Knight, John Ratzenberger, and Sigournia Weaver.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: A film grosser APPROXIMATEY two earned twenty three point eight
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: million dollars domestically, making it the fifth highest ruction film
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: of two thousand and eight, and the film was not
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: mad for six Academy Awards when he won for Best
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: an Animated Feature.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Masters of the Air is what I was trying to
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: think of, and that's what Austin Butler was in. Did
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: y'all never see that? I don't think I've ever heard
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: heard of it? Oh my gosh, it was was that.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: I was sad. I've never heard of that either. Oh,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: it was fantastic. I loved it.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: It's not like it was a Masters in the theater
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: because I didn't see it.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: It wasn't in the theater. It was on Netflix or
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: something like that. He just it was a series, and
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: it was. It was fantastic. There's a.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: I think it's the History Channel is doing a world
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: twenty part series on World War Two currently, and Tom
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Hanks is like the host.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Then, yes, I've been watching that. I was watching it
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: last night. I was doing some work.
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: You're not, no, No, I yeah, mail know, like a
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: whole detail about the war. So yeah, nice. I mean,
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: is Tom Hanks over exposed? It seems like he he
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: does everything.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: He probably deserves to do everything. Is that really why?
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: I mean, he's a great actor.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: If Tom Hank's overexposed, then what's Morgan Freeman true?
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: And I love I listen, I'm not knocking on Tom Hanks,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: and I would never knock on Morgan Freeman. I love
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Morgan Freeman. I think he between I don't know who
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: has the better voice. Unfortunately, James Earl Jones is not
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: with us anymore, but James Earl Jones just had that
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: kind of voice, just like Morgan Freeman. I don't know
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: whose voice I would prefer. James Earl Jones, Morgan Freeman
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: and Qurey Price. Just the Oh that wow. Top top
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: three voices. That would be the funnest job ever. My
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: wife has a client that that's all they do is
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: voice And so if you go to certain airports, airports, airpoints, airport,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: if you go to certain airports, you hear their voice. Wow.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: And I was like, that's the coolest saying. And he
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: gets paid to say that kind of stuff. I mean,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I don't know. Wouldn't it be fun to go through
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: an airport and say, hey, that's me? I mean yeah,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: I mean watch your step. Yeah, the walking sidewalk is
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: getting ready to end.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: Don't forget to visit to Chili's, you know, don't forget
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: to visit Chili's.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Why would you bring up Chili's. Isn't it at the
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: airport level?
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: Oh?
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Is there?
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: Oh?
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I think there is a Chili's air That's the
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: one thing Louisville Airport has done horribly hopefully with this
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: new renovation that they're doing there. Spend a lot of
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: money at the airport, lots of construction going there. They
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: get better food selections. I don't fly a whole lot, so,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: oh you don't. I've been there in quite some time.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: Oh I'm I think I'm there every week.
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: You're you're a busy man. It's way too much yea, yeah, ah,
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: this horse stuff going on. Oh, come on, it's fun.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: I'm enjoying all the horse stuff. I'm glad you do. Yeah,
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: I'm just saying yours. I could see Tom Tom Leech
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: every night, No Tom Leech because he'll be at Genland
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: because he's the host there. I'm actually doing a feature
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: on Tom because this year will be his thirtieth season
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: calling games.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: For for UK. Thirty years the season. Yeah he started
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: starting in ninety seven, so well, but I mean thirty
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: years since it's been Ralph Hacker. That's just amazing to me.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: So for the yearbook for Football, I'm doing a little
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: cute cute are you?
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Are you really all right? Do you have your questions now?
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: I sent it to him on Sunday. Yes, he's gonna
- 1:03:51Speaker 3: record his answers, give it back to me and they'll
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: put in like you know, Ward, you.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Won't sit down and talk to you live about this.
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I guess I could, but it is
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: it's just easier, honestly it is.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I get it all right. Can you give
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: us a little tidbit of maybe one or two questions
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: that you asked him?
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: Yes, I think I asked a lot of the basics,
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: like like, what's his favorite stadium?
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Besides uh, you commonweal to call a game?
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: Yeah, if he has like a play player or game
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: it sticks out. It's first twenty nine seasons. He's called
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: every game since ninety seven as a missed. Once I
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: asked if he's if he's any close calls of games. Oh,
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: that's a good question. My mask is a travel or yeah,
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: sickness or something.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, Because I remember back in the day when
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: Ralph Hacker was coloring. Of course the great Kwood Ledford
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: was played by play. They would talk about how UK
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: had a night game for basketball in Lexington and UK
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: had a day game in football in Knoxville. I remember that,
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: and and they would have to they would describe how
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: they were going to get on a jet and fly
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: back up there and cover the game of both games.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: So they did football game, did the basketball game that night,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: and that's just like I always thought that was really cool.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: I would love to know how long before he became
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: the play by play guy did he have an idea
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: that he would become the play by play guy And
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: what was his reaction when he finally heard the news
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: that he was going to be the play by play
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: guy for UK.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: That question was similar, not quite that, but I asked, yeah,
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: at what age did he feel like he wanted to
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: do something in radio? And I asked if his parents
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: were encouraging of that goal at dream and then asked,
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: I know how his first game was August thirtieth ninety seven.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: I asked if he can give any memories of that
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: day and how felt and stuff.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: So, yeah, it was exciting to hear him. I mean,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: there are two different guys that Kwood Ledford who is
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: always going to go down as to me the goat
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: for UK and play by play. Tom Leach is right
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: there behind him, and Kwood doesn't did not have the
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: kind of excitement that Tom Leach brings. I mean, you
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: knew it was fun to listen to him when he
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: first started, and it's still fun to listen to him
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: because you still hear that excitement come out of his voice.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: I mean every time I hear him say touchdown Kentucky.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: And I mean back then, you could go back and
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: listen to easily you can today, but his call during
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: uk U of L games and and hear him call
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: the football ones, I'd go back and listen to him
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: over and over just because I loved his excitement. It
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: got me excited all over. It would give me cold
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: chills like it does right now. It's just like I
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: love listening to Tom Leach. I think it just and
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: getting to know him and what a great guy he
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: really is, and how he on the radio is exactly
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: how he acts in person.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: And you know, back in ninety seven, it's not like
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: it's today where every game is live, you know, on
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: TV or streaming. So I mean there are many games
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: where if you wanted to know what was happening live,
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: you you had to listen to Tom. So I was twelve,
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: so that's kind of age where you know it kind
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: of means means a little more to you.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: So he made a pretty big impression on me, and
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: I mean now I get to work with him, So it's.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, because the one thing you don't hear Tom
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Leach say anymore. This is one thing that Kawood Letford
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: always said, if you're listening, we're going right to left.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: If you're listening on your radio this he still says that.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Does he really okay? Because not many people listen on
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: their radio dials anymore. I mean you're you're predominantly listening
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: on your phone or your computer or something along those lines.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: But still him talking. It absolutely it is. I'd like
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: to know as well, was there ever another job he
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: possibly could have taken. Would he've gone to the NBA,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: would have gone to the NFL, would have gone to
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: a major city and done something like this?
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: Prus asked that, uh, kind of along the lines you
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: mentioned just uh group briefly ago. Uh, he's been so
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: amazing at his job for thirty years. I asked him, like,
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: what what makes him?
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: What pushes him to keep doing it? Because I mean
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: he's I mean he could mean if you want to,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: he could.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: He could retire today and he would leave, you know,
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: something awesome behind. So like what pushes him to keep
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: keep doing it, you know.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: And I would love to know.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: I know he wouldn't answer, but i'd love to know,
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: you know, who was your favorite coach? I didn't ask that. Yeah,
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: I don't think he would answer. Yeah, probably not. Yeah,
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: I mean it's pretty I mean, now it's been now
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: with Stein and bat Uh, he's been through I think
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: six coaches and four athletic directors. Has it been four
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: and still just been one one voice? So wow, time
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: has been been through a lot. Yeah, he has, and
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: he's downs the exact same. So, I mean it's funny.
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: I'll talk to him on the phone or in person.
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: It's like, Okay, I'm listening to the UK broadcast right now,
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: and Tom's big with the horses too, right, oh very much?
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: So oh yeah, and that's where we'll see each other
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: at Keenlan and stuff and he'll ask me what you
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: got right in today? So but yeah, what a great guy.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: But I'll look forward to that. It should come out
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: when uh, probably early September. I know they sell them
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: at the home games. I'm not sure where we're gonna
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: be selling them besides that, so I guess. I mean,
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: I worst the first song game, which I think is September.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, good and uh so you got plans
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: with your lady friend anymore this week? No, you're not
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: heading down to the e town. Is she coming up
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: to Louisville? His face is already turning red. Matthew, it's
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: all right. I just asked a simple question, and his
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: face is turning red. No plans? Really? Oh? Was it
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: not a love connection? Nothing like that? Really? Is she
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: just a friend? Yeah? Just a friend? This is so sad. Okay,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: come on, friends turning girlfriends, people of the girl friends
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: turn into wives, people of the opposite sex. Can't be
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: just friends. No, you know that answer. They can't. No, No,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: that question was answered when Harry met Sally. Boys cannot
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: be friends with girls, and girls can't be friends with boys.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: Thank you, Matthew. Go ahead, that's the freezing take every look.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna debunk this right now. Corey.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: Do you have a single female friend in your life
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: that you've never even thought you know what?
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: I could be with her? Ever?
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: Say what egan like, if you ever had a female
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: friend in your life or in it for even for
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: a second, you thought in your head I could be
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: with her if she came, if she if she asked me,
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: because I'm getting confused.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Him what the question? I am understanding the question is
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: that what he doesn't want to answer. Is there a
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: girl out there that you are friends with that you
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: could never think of making out with? Yes, of course
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: there is? Yeah, Okay, all right then, Matthew I don't either.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I don't believe what word is coming out now. You're
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: not weird, You're just not answering, honestly. But that's okay,
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: all right, Corey, I'm truthful. I am not Listen. One
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: of the first texts I got on Sunday Corey priceying
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Happy Father's Day. And I always appreciate that Corey is
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: good about that. How many people do you think you
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: text on Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthdays and fathers saying Mother's Day?
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: As many as I It's nice you to do that,
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: spread the joy.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you do. You do that all the time.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: So even females that they are just friends, you know. Yeah,
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: here we go.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: I'm not buying it.
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: Matthewton says it best. I think that's a perfect way
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: to describe it. You are acquaintance, You're no, we're not hating.
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: We just want you to find somebody and have a
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: have a nice life. So the one day you can say,
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: uh hey, it's Father's Day for me, who's gonna text
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: Michael Bennet's text me for Father's Day? I mean, I'm
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: I'm thriller your father. But I don't think you have
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: to be a follower dad, find joint life.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: You're exactly correct, but it hasn't become one of the
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: greatest joys of my life. Be a dad, I guarantee
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: it this. Yeah, yeah, and you'd be a phenomenal dad
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: and phenomenal husband. But we just got all right, if
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: if there's a love acquaintance out there, would you DM
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: Corey Price or me? He has one. He just went
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: on a date with her. He had to drive all
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: the way to Elizabethtown. I don't know. Maybe tonight he's
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: driving out to Lagrange to go meet somebody or Carrollton Corey,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: how old are you? I am forty one in August.
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: Yeah, that was a date, Like, there's no way that
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: you're forty And that woman was like, yeah, I'll go
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: to the movie theater essentially platonically with a man, Like
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: what are we talking about?
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: That's a date? Or who paid for the movie tickets?
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: It was split.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: I mean they're forty. That makes sense, Okay, is that
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: where it happens when you're forty? They were like eighteen
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: and Corey. Corey would definitely have paid for it. But yeah,
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: they're who paid for the I think she bought my water.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: She interested in him day, she's interested in him. He
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: was telling you, Okay.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: Corey can't do anything for two more.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: This might be Corey's last Tuesday with us, by the way, Okay,
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: on the third movie that's making a move. You know.
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: We do this because we love you, Corey. You know
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: the next Tuesday is is Matt's last one? Yeah? It is, Yep,
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: it'll be It will be a sad day when Matthew
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: is going. Yeah, I'm not looking forward to it. I
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: love my Matthew. I don't want I need my my
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: my tuty here what my two d that's what his
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: mom called them, that's his nickname.
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: Can you spoil? Is the next guy also a Cards fan? No,
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: he is not a U of L fan. Sorry man, Yeah,
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: it's okay, needs some man.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: You might know him. So anyway, it'll be exciting day
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: when he comes back. So there you're yeah, I mean
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: when he comes.
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: Sounds like you anyway.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: All right, we gotta take a break. Card Price always
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: fun having you here on.
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: Tuesday was a pleasure of Michael Bennett and Matthew Childress.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: On your day, Cory, We're gonna take a break. Stay
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: right there more just Cat's coming right up. Were you
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: a little hard on Cory that last segment? I mean
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: his face was so red. But were you just to
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: touch a little heart on him?
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: No, we're all friends here. Yeah, you gotta give friends
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: tough love sometimes. Look boy love, he's doing it. It
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: was a date.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: It's okay, it's fine.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: There's no way that woman it's just going to movies
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: with men as friends in her forties.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: They all want time to wait. Oh my gosh, man,
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: it's just it was fun to see you reacted, and
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: I'm looking at him react. He didn't know how to
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: respec on to you. By the way, I love Corey.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: He's hilarious. We all do. He's such a funny dude. Yes, but.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: If you're listening right now and your way back to work,
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: you better go home. Call that woman yes and ask
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: her out. To ask her out again, and I bet
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: money she'll say yes.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, exactly. Oh yeah, there was a love connection.
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: I think that's what. He didn't want to admit that
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: he likes her and he doesn't want to maybe let
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: her know. I get it. It's the first day. Yeah,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: but you know he told us that he went to
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: the movie and I said, who'd you go with? And
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: he said, a girl just friends. I don't buy it. Listen.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: I told my dad when I was dating my wife
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: now almost said current wife. When I was that we
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: were just friends. He's like, yeah, sure you are. And
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: next thing you know, she became my real friend. Next
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: thing you know, she became my wife. So yeah, friends
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: become wives. I've been around enough women in my life.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: I've been around enough people of my life. Yes, know
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: how this works, Yes, exactly.
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: And Corey isn't an advantageous position where you know you're
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: to the point where you're the weather a little more mature,
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: they know what they want. Yeah, you don't have to
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: play the games. You don't have to worry about if
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: there's other men she's looking for and all this. Corey,
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: call her when you get off work and say, hey,
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: why wait then texture right now is in the car?
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Right now? Color? What does Robert and I you're saying trap,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Vick Thumder, you say, hey, will you get out of here?
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: You call it? You said, baby, we're going on to day.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, those allergies are clearing up all of
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: a sudden. Friends, you are just blasting him for that.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: I pretty he'll never come back again Tuesday at nine o'clock.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: But there was only one school that had a transfer
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: portal that was ranked in the top ten or better
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: with men's basketball, women's basketball, and football, and that team
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: was the University of Kentucky. No other school was able
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: to accomplish that. Men's basketball had the number two transfer
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: port in the country, women's basketball had the number six.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: I didn't realize women's basketball was that high. My gosh,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: that's awesome. Kenny Brooks has just got it going on there.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: I want you to know, I want Kenny Brooks to
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: be the lifelong University of Kentucky women's basketball coach. We'll
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: have him on next month or so. And then, of
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: course football. We all know what will Stein's been doing.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: The tenth ranked transfer report of class in the country.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: I mean, just the complete turnaround of all of these
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: teams within the last well, football, within the last few months, basketball,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: within the last month month and a half, people were
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: ready to get rid of Mark Pope and he turns
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: around and ends up having the number two class in
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: the country. It's just nothing short of amazing. And then
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: what Kenny Brooks has done at UK, that's the one
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: thing I'm really excited about. And plus I really like
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: Kenny Brooks. I think he has done a phenomenal job
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: coming to UK and getting this program to be wildly
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: successful and do as well as he does in the SEC,
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: which is one of the toughest conferences in women's basketball
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: in the country. And then will Stein with with the
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: departure of Mark Stoops and the way the program was
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: going for football, and then will Stein to come in
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: here and basically overnight get the tenth ranked transferport of
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: school in the country is again nothing short of amazing.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: I mean, you look at that. Are you surprised by
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: all that? I didn't realize it until yesterday when I
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: saw this that all three schools had the top ten.
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I hadn't kept up with women's basketb Yeah, so yeah
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: it is, that's okay, Yeah, it really is impressive. I'm happy.
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: All right, what did you think about this idea? Did
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: you see where Dan Hurley where Yukon is playing duke
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: this year? This coming season, Dan Hurley attended the UFC
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: event at the White House. He now wants the Yukon
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: duke game to be played at the White House. Is
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: this a good idea or a hokey marketing ploy to
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: get more attention to Dan Hurley and Yukon.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: Look, as somebody who watched UFC two fifty at the
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: White House.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: Lawn, it was successful.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: What did I want more major sports? Do you realize
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: it doesn't have to be the White House? But like
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: major American landmarks? Like I thought it was such a
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: cool thing. I'm this is one thing, Okay, this is
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: not a political take.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: This is just like, no, we don't talk politics on
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: the show.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: I don't like that they're this whole like patriotism is
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: like one side politically than the other, you know what
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: I mean. I think it's so cool when people like
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: embrace where they're from. Yes, even if it's gimmicky looking,
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: you know when they do. I love like the flyovers
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: at college football.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: It's so cool. I love like you know, I love symbolism.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: It's fun.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: So like the UFC two fifty was one where they
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: went above and beyond. It was completely American, Like the
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: World Cup is the same way. Everybody's wearing wave American flags.
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: There's people with the soccer games dressed up as Abraham Lincoln.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: Like that stuff is fun. Yes, that that stuff is
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: so cool to me. Like they used to do college
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: basketball games, yeah, on aircraft carriers out in the middle
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: of the other.
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: Side, right, played on one.
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: We don't do that stuff anymore, right, And I feel
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: like it's because like the Internet and social media has
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: put this whole like patriotism is this side, and this
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: is this you know what I mean? Like I don't
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: like it being you know, enjoying where you live is
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: not a political take.
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: I love this stuff. I think it doesn't have ducon
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: Duke whatever. I don't care about that.
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: Just put stuff like show off America and where we
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: doesn't have to be the White House.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: It could be in Yellowstone, Nicka. Well, let's talk about
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: it all right. Let's name some places besides the White
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: House you would like to see a basketball game. Where
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: would be another iconic United States venue that you think
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: would be a lot of fun to watch a sporting event.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: Rutger Park in New York. Rooker Park Park is.
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: I don't Rutger Park is a really popular public park
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: where like professional basketball players used to like do like
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: five on run.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: That's cool. It's a really historic park, all right.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: I think if we're still talking basketball, I think Venice
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: Beach is really cool. Yeah, that's another like you know,
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: public basketball area. Yeah, if we're talking, i'd love somewhere
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: like Midwest, like I think like a national landmark kind
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: of thing, you know, I don't know, Eric is huge
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: or so many places you go.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: I mean, throw somebody in Alaska, like move somebody around. Well,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: they used to have that great Amask of Alaska and shootout.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: They used to have that, and that's kind of good.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: I think it's gone by the wayside. But yeah, I
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: kind of like it was kind of a it was
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: kind of it was a hoax last week. But I
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: thought it was pretty cool to say that a basketball
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: game by UK and Kansas was going to play be
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: played at Churchill Downs. I think if you played that
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: in the paddock, you could easily put a basketball court
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: in the paddock, couldn't you, And in the surrounding stands
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: could be where the people sit and watch the basketball game. Yeah.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: I thought that was kind of cool uf L did it.
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: I just I like that stuff because it's for the fans,
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: it's for the viewers, it's for the atmosphere. It's one
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: of the few things we have left that's not for
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: the business owners of the world. Right, it's not a
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: it's not a corporate meeting to go to the basketball game,
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like, so I love that
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: the whole. That's why I love UFC two fifty. Like,
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: it's been so much fun to watch that stuff. I
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: wish we did more of it. I wish we brought
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: to college sports, not just basketball. I wish we did
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: with football, Like like hockey every year does the outdoor game,
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: and I love that.
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: Those are wildly successful. They sell out every time.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: There's like it's like, oh my gosh, we're watching hockey
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: outside like this, this is awesome.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: Well, you know, they were so nervous last year they
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: did the one in Tampa where the Lightning played at
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: the Buccaneer Stadium. They were so worried that the ice
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: was gonna melt. They took months to make certain it
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: wasn't going to melt. Then it ended up being one
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: of the coldest nights in Tampa, Florida, where snow was falling.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: Of all things, I think here's what I would like
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: to see. I'd like to see a basketball game played
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: at Yankee Stadium. That'd be really cool and the dead
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: of winner and let's see how those guys in shorts
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: and tank tops are doing out there. I don't know,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: I think that I don't care. I think that would
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: be awesome to see just the the cold air coming
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: out of a guy's mouth when he's trying to play
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: basketball in mid thirty degree temperatures. I think that would
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: be a lot of fun play play a game at
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: what what's an iconic NFL stadium playing in Green Bay?
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: That would be.
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: Fun to go see a basketball game you would there.
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: That's the only one I could fight you on. That
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: would just be imp It would be so windy nobody
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: could shoot. It be a blizzard of a disaster. You'd
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: have to do something like that in the South, all right,
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: so you could, well, what are some outdoor football state?
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: Well you got Miami hard Rock. You could do Raymond
- 1:25:41Speaker 3: James down there as well.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: Well, didn't who was it?
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: Was it? Wisconsin's volleyball team play an outdoor game like
- 1:25:48Speaker 3: last season or is it Nebraska and they exoled the
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: whole football stadium.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I forgot about that. You're exactly for it. So
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: cool cool. I like that, just like I would like
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: to see UK play at Memorial, just one game play
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: at Memorial Coliseum. I promise it'll be so sold out people,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: it'll be the buzz, It'll just be a lot of fun.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: So anyway, all right, we gotta take our last break.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: I'll get to your text as soon as we get back.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: Five two four one four fourteen fifty. Stay right there,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: one more segment, just CAAT's coming right up. All right,
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: let's get through some of these text messages. Five two
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: four one four fourteen fifty. On the Whiskey thief text line,
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: one person's had lots of cow the Michigan reports. Would
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: he I don't know. Would he leave fayette Field to
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: move to ann Arbor, Michigan. We've had a lot in Fatteville.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: He is getting well by the Chicken people. So do
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: you think is there any chance he would go to Michigan? Hey,
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: that is a bigger school, I mean, and there's probably
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: a lot more opportunity for more money than just from
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: one chicken person. I don't know, and they will of
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: course the Walmart people too, But what do you think.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: I mean, it depends on how much they want to
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: pay him. They have to pay us buy out or
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: Arkansas is a big thing.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think Michigan's scared of that. They're not.
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: But it's also I think calf like enjoys playing an
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: environment that likes when basketball is, you know, the main thing.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: Michigan's just not that.
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: I mean there's Michigan fans like football the whole season,
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: and then once January is over then they kind of
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: transition over.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: Hope.
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: The basketball team's pretty good. So I don't if it
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: was like a if cal just came out and said, look,
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: I'm coaching for two more years, I'm making sign one
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: more contract, then yeah, he could go to Michigan and
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: possibly try and win a championship before he leaves. But
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: if he is doing what he's doing now and he
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: genuinely wants to continue to coach basketball for an extended
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: period of time, I don't see him going to somewhere
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: like Mischigan.
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: I think that's your best comment was why would he
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: go to a school that's mostly known for football. So
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: if he's not going to be the king be like
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: he is at Arkansas, then he's not go way too
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: much somewhere like that. Yeah, and that's that's not a knock,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: that's a reality. So don't give me a hard time.
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: I'm knocking on cow. One person said, Ncuba rules allow
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: them to transfer. Nil deals are more binding than n
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: Cuba rules. Uh. In our world today, I still think
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: they get out of the nil deals. I think they
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: walk away from that. Uh. I know, I'm old. It's
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: k would and then everybody else. Yeah, buzz, you're right
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: about that. I mean no, and I think Tom Leach
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: would not take offense to that. But a man listening
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: and growing up with Kwood Ledford on the radio was
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: a lot of fun. But I will say probably the
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: best thing that ever happened to Tom Leach is that
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: Ralph Hacker was in between. If Tom Leach he had
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: followed Kwood Lefford, I think it would have been a
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: much tougher road. But I think he would have succeeded.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: I know he would have succeeded, but it would have
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: been tougher for him. I think it was an easier
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: transition from Ralph Hacker to Tom Leach. Tom Leach has
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: just done a phenomenal I love Tom Leach. I love
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: him as a person, and I love him as an announcer.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: And I'm so happy he's our announcer because I think
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: Bar Nunn today there's nobody better than Tom Leach. John here, Hey, Michael,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: I have a hypothetical question for you. In nineteen ninety eight,
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: Tubby Smith and the Kentucky Wildcats won the men's NCAA
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: Basketball Championships. Some say Tubby won that with Rick Patino's players.
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: They try not to give him credit. I will, I
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: will not go that far. I give him all the
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: credit in the basketball world. However, I do ask you today,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: if coach Rick Patino would have been still coaching, would
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: he have coached them to a better record in along
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: with still winning the championship? Would he have coached them
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: better in your opinion? And Matthew chime in if you
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: would like to as well, what do you think I
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: still think that team would have won? I was not alive,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: so I don't really have a take on this, okay,
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: And I think they would have had a better record
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: purely because that team was still used to coach Patino styles,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: so they had to learn a new style of basketball
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: under Tubby Smith. So that's where I think the differences
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: and the only reason that Patino would have had a
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: better record. I hope that answers your question right there.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: John Ohio guy said you conversus Duke wouldn't work at
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: the White House lawn because of winter time weather unless
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: they scheduled it earlier. I mean, that's a non conference game,
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: so that game could be I don't I'm sure the
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: dates already up, but they could schedule that game October November.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: It might be chilly, but if you played on a
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: weekend during the day, it should be fine. Don't you
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: think you have to be like an early season like
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: exhibition or something. No, come on, it can't be an
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: exhibition game. It's got to be a real game.
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: You literally couldn't run out there in forty degree weather
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: and just play basketball for two hours three hours.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: Yeah. One person said, basketball in front of Lincoln Memorial.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: That'd be really cool. That'd be really cool right there. Uh,
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: do it put the way You couldn't probably put it
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: on the reflecting pond, but that would be cool to
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: have it right there. But in front of Lincoln memorial,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: I would I would like that, or Thomas Jefferson's memorial,
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: or the Washington Memorial, any of those. I think, especially Lincoln.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: I'm probably partial to Abraham Lincoln because he's from Kentucky,
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: so I would probably do that. I never understood why Illinois.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: All right, as I like to say Illinois, they call
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: themselves Land of Lincoln. Well, Lincoln's from Kentucky, so really
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: Land of Lincoln is from even though we grew up
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: in Illinois. But come on, he's from Kentucky. Right. We
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: got his house, yeah, we exactly. The funny part is
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: they don't even know if that's his real house or not. Uh.
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: What did you think about?
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: Uh? Uh?
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: The Iranian team how they handled themselves during the World Cup.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: You know, they left their locker the same way that
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: they came in, clean, perfect, immaculate. They even wrote a
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: note to the city of Los Angeles. We came to
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: Los Angeles with pride, competed with honor, and leave with dignity.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: Thank you Los Angeles for your hospitality. What did you
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: think of that? Was that political or was that really
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: from the heart?
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: I mean, it's probably a little bol Like the soccer
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: players don't have anything to do with the con nothing exactly. Like,
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: if they didn't do all that stuff, I wouldn't think
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: any less of them if they you know, it doesn't
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: share like I don't know like that they have nothing
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: like I said they did. Yeah, it's nice what they did,
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: But I feel like, because I saw this doo, I
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: think people are just like looking into way too deep.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Yeah. I got it to a point where I kind
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: of felt bad for them, because you're right, they had
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: nothing to do with what's going on between the United
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: States and Iran, but it's kind of stuck in the middle.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: They had to stay in Tijuana and fly everywhere. Yeah,
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: so that's unfortunate for them.
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: Yeah, but I also get that, you know, every country
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: has ignorant people. Yeah, and if some of those ignorant
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: people probably found out that the Iranian people were staying
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: in this particular hotel.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: Then yeah, it might cause problems, you know what I mean.
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: It's all that's not me saying that that's wrong or
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: right or but I'm just saying there's ignorant people everywhere.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, NBA draft is tonight. Are you gonna watch it?
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: I mean, I'll keep up with it. Yeah, I'll have
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: it on eight o'clock. First round is gonna be on
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: ABC or ESPN or whatever respective it it's gonna be
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: interesting to see where Jade and Quaint's is going to go.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: I mean it's it's gone from first round er. We'll
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: talk more about tomorrow first round or two second round.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: I mean, it's just it's I wonder if he should
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: have stayed at UK. I don't think it would have
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: benefited him. You don't think so?
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: No, all right, well we'll talk about that tomorrow, amongst
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: a lot of other things.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: So fun show today. We'll see you tomorrow. Everybody have
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: a great day, all right. All Right. I don't know
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: if that was to me or just nice to you.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: I well, nine fifty nine, I thought we were done
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: it just hard nine n nine. We got like fifty
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: seconds left? Oh we do? Oh well you want me
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: to go on for another fifty seconds? I mean I've
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: already thrown the show out of here. So anyway, this
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: was fun today. I had a lot of fun today,
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: so I hope you did too. All Right, everybody see
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: you tomorrow. I have a great day.
