- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, let's talk more about that Senate race in Minnesota,
- 0:02Speaker 1: because it is one that Donald Trump seems especially focused
- 0:05Speaker 1: on as we as we approach Election Day. On Monday,
- 0:08Speaker 1: he posted this quote. Let's all get behind Michelle Tafoya
- 0:11Speaker 1: in Minnesota. She's running a great race. Don't allow them
- 0:15Speaker 1: to play with the votes after the race is over.
- 0:16Speaker 1: The federal government will be watching closely. The only way
- 0:19Speaker 1: she can lose is if they cheat by playing games
- 0:21Speaker 1: with the ballots as they come in. Sounds familiar. Donald
- 0:26Speaker 1: Trump has also spent a huge amount of time lately fixating,
- 0:29Speaker 1: exactly like Ali said, on Minnesota's Somali immigrant community, leveling
- 0:34Speaker 1: racist accusations at them, calling them all corrupt. He's especially
- 0:38Speaker 1: targeted Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, whose Washington residence was raided
- 0:43Speaker 1: by the Department of Homeland Security and their investigators earlier
- 0:46Speaker 1: this month. And of course, Minnesota has literally been ground
- 0:50Speaker 1: zero for the brutal and the lawless anti-immigration raids and
- 0:55Speaker 1: all of those armed and masked federal agents that carried
- 0:58Speaker 1: out the indescribable on Donald Trump's orders. During that offensive,
- 1:04Speaker 1: agents shot and killed two Americans on the streets of Minneapolis,
- 1:08Speaker 1: Alex Preddy and Renee Nicole Good. In a press conference today,
- 1:11Speaker 1: the parents of Alex Preddy said that in the nine
- 1:13Speaker 1: months since their son was shot, no one, no one
- 1:17Speaker 1: in the federal government has reached out to them. Instead,
- 1:20Speaker 1: the Justice Department seems to be stonewalling the investigation.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Minnesotans said no to this injustice.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Americans said no to this injustice.
- 1:32Speaker 2: And today we are here begging for the Department of
- 1:36Speaker 2: Justice to do what is right, to hold the men
- 1:40Speaker 2: who murdered our son accountable.
- 1:43Speaker 1: For what they did. Alex Freddie's younger sister, Michaela, is
- 1:48Speaker 1: also speaking out. She posted on Instagram last week writing this.
- 1:53Speaker 1: To everyone around the country that sent our family letters
- 1:56Speaker 1: after Alex was murdered, a majority of them said, please
- 1:59Speaker 1: let us know how we can honor Alex or we
- 2:01Speaker 1: will do everything to fight for Alex. And to that,
- 2:04Speaker 1: I say, please, please go out and vote. Vote for Alex.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Vote for a step closer to justice for my family.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Vote for all of the victims of ICE. Vote for
- 2:13Speaker 1: your community and your neighbors. Alex stood up for his community.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So now it is time we stand up and we
- 2:20Speaker 1: fight back. Peggy Flanagan has served as the lieutenant governor
- 2:24Speaker 1: of Minnesota since 2019. She's the Democratic candidate for senator
- 2:27Speaker 1: this year, and she joins me now. It's good to
- 2:30Speaker 1: see you. Thanks for being here.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Thanks so much for having me.
- 2:34Speaker 1: You just heard Alex Priddy's parents on the investigation into
- 2:37Speaker 1: his death, as well as what his sister had to say.
- 2:39Speaker 1: What's your reaction to all that?
- 2:41Speaker 2: I mean, these parents are incredibly brave, and my heart
- 2:49Speaker 2: just breaks for them. And I just join Michael and
- 2:53Speaker 2: Susan and Michaela in demanding that this evidence be released
- 3:01Speaker 2: and shared with state investigators. The fact that they just
- 3:04Speaker 2: continue to stonewall this investigation, you see, I mean, you
- 3:10Speaker 2: can tell in their voices and their demeanor just how heartbreaking.
- 3:16Speaker 1: All of this is.
- 3:17Speaker 2: No parent should have to stand up there and ask
- 3:21Speaker 2: for the federal government to simply.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Do their job.
- 3:25Speaker 2: They're just asking for accountability, for justice, for their son
- 3:30Speaker 2: who was killed. And we all saw it happen, right,
- 3:34Speaker 2: with our own eyes. What we have been through is
- 3:38Speaker 2: incredibly traumatic here. And to see how his family is
- 3:43Speaker 2: carrying this and being incredibly brave in this moment and
- 3:47Speaker 2: calling out for justice for their son. I'm just, I'm
- 3:52Speaker 2: with them. And I know that there are so many
- 3:54Speaker 2: people in this state who stand with Alex Prudy and
- 3:57Speaker 2: his family.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I have to ask you more about it because we
- 4:00Speaker 1: all watched the ICE raids in Minnesota together. We all
- 4:03Speaker 1: saw regular people who came out to protest and protect
- 4:07Speaker 1: their neighbors and offer mutual aid, sometimes in super sub-zero conditions. temperatures.
- 4:13Speaker 1: After all of that, I think there are some people
- 4:15Speaker 1: who wonder, how is this race, how is your race
- 4:17Speaker 1: so close?
- 4:19Speaker 2: I mean, I just say this. I think that Minnesotans
- 4:24Speaker 2: understand there is just a very clear choice in this race.
- 4:29Speaker 2: You know, Donald Trump, who you mentioned earlier, endorsed my opponent.
- 4:33Speaker 2: He has, in fact, endorsed Michelle Tafoya multiple times in
- 4:38Speaker 2: the last two weeks, and that's because She's completely aligned
- 4:42Speaker 2: with him on so many issues. But when it comes
- 4:45Speaker 2: to Operation Metro Surge, she literally used footage of Operation
- 4:51Speaker 2: Metro Surge and ICE in her campaign rollout video days
- 4:55Speaker 2: after Renee Good was killed. And in fact, she went
- 4:59Speaker 2: on a podcast the day Renee was killed and said
- 5:03Speaker 2: that Renee Good was responsible for her own death. She
- 5:07Speaker 2: has now tried to change her tune a bit. But
- 5:11Speaker 2: I think we know that Donald Trump doesn't give out
- 5:14Speaker 2: his endorsement willy-nilly. You have to earn it. And Michelle
- 5:19Speaker 2: DeFoya has earned it with flying colors from her support
- 5:23Speaker 2: for the tariffs, the trade war. She platformed January 6th
- 5:28Speaker 2: insurrectionists on her podcast and called them really good people
- 5:32Speaker 2: and her brothers. She said ICE should be called nice
- 5:36Speaker 2: and that they've treated children really, really well. We all
- 5:39Speaker 2: know what happened to Liam Conejo Ramos, right? The 6,200
- 5:43Speaker 2: children who've been detained by ICE. That is the choice
- 5:48Speaker 2: in this race. And I think Minnesotans deserve someone who
- 5:52Speaker 2: will be beholden to them and not do the bidding
- 5:55Speaker 2: of Donald Trump.
- 5:56Speaker 1: It is deranged. I mean, it was deranged on the ground.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It's deranged to hear someone who could have possibly seen
- 6:01Speaker 1: that like I did with my own eyes and think
- 6:03Speaker 1: it was anything other than deliberate cruelty on the streets
- 6:07Speaker 1: of Minneapolis and in you know, throughout the Twin Cities.
- 6:12Speaker 1: There's the other huge issue here, which is Trump is
- 6:14Speaker 1: obviously laying the groundwork to challenge your election, elections across
- 6:17Speaker 1: the country if you win. There's also been so much
- 6:19Speaker 1: speculation about the other ways that he could interfere with
- 6:21Speaker 1: the vote on the ground there. The Justice Department just
- 6:24Speaker 1: notified two Minnesota counties to be prepared for federal election observers.
- 6:29Speaker 3: What are you doing?
- 6:29Speaker 1: How are you prepared for this possible incursion or election interference?
- 6:35Speaker 1: At the same time, you've got to motivate all of
- 6:36Speaker 1: your supporters to go get out to the polls. So
- 6:38Speaker 1: I'd say a couple of things.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Number one, Minnesota has one of the best election systems
- 6:44Speaker 2: in the entire country. Our Secretary of State, Steve Simon,
- 6:48Speaker 2: is incredible. The governor's office, the attorney general's office, as
- 6:53Speaker 2: well as the Secretary of State's office are working together
- 6:57Speaker 2: to make sure that people can vote. I would also
- 7:02Speaker 2: just say this, that we've got a lot of folks
- 7:05Speaker 2: who are on the ground who will also be observers,
- 7:08Speaker 2: making sure that so many of the folks who are
- 7:12Speaker 2: mobilized around Operation Metro Surge and standing up for their
- 7:17Speaker 2: neighbors also are motivating people to get out to vote,
- 7:20Speaker 2: to also make sure that people can vote safely and
- 7:23Speaker 2: free from interference. But what I would also say is
- 7:25Speaker 2: that we have seen tremendous early vote numbers here in Minnesota.
- 7:30Speaker 2: That I think is really encouraging. And if folks are
- 7:32Speaker 2: feeling a little nervous about the election, I would just
- 7:34Speaker 2: encourage them to to vote early. And that's something that's
- 7:38Speaker 2: available to people up until Election Day. And, you know,
- 7:43Speaker 2: that is the really the movement that we're seeing so
- 7:47Speaker 2: many folks who are turning out to vote early. And
- 7:50Speaker 2: I feel confident that we will have low drama in
- 7:55Speaker 2: these elections under the leadership of our Secretary of State,
- 7:59Speaker 2: Steve Simon. And we've got some of the best election
- 8:02Speaker 2: judges in the entire country who are going to make
- 8:05Speaker 2: sure that people are following the rules, doing what they
- 8:07Speaker 2: need to do. But, you know, as you said, Donald
- 8:11Speaker 2: Trump is starting to already sow doubt around the election
- 8:15Speaker 2: results here in Minnesota, calling into question, you know, potentially
- 8:19Speaker 2: what will happen in Alaska as well.
- 8:22Speaker 1: That's outrageous. And, you.
- 8:27Speaker 2: They know that their policies are not popular. A $ 5, 000
- 8:31Speaker 2: hamburger is similar to, you know, what Michelle Tafoya said
- 8:35Speaker 2: about skipping a trip to Starbucks and keeping a stiff
- 8:38Speaker 2: upper lip if you're concerned about, you know, gas prices. But,
- 8:43Speaker 2: you know, the bottom line here, I think, is, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 2: we've seen this already. We saw this during January 6th, right,
- 8:51Speaker 2: when he riled up his supporters. And frankly, that should
- 8:56Speaker 2: have been enough. to stop Donald Trump from being elected
- 9:01Speaker 2: for a second time. He has said that Minnesota voted
- 9:05Speaker 2: for him three times and that he's ready to win
- 9:07Speaker 2: a fourth time. I would just say this. We know
- 9:11Speaker 2: who won the election in our state, and we will
- 9:14Speaker 2: ensure that Donald Trump is defeated a fourth time on
- 9:18Speaker 2: November 3rd. And if folks want to make sure that
- 9:20Speaker 2: you know, the state that demonstrated we are not powerless
- 9:23Speaker 2: in the face of Donald Trump. In fact, we are
- 9:25Speaker 2: quite powerful.
- 9:26Speaker 1: If you felt inspired, be part.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Of, you know, this campaign. Help us to make sure
- 9:31Speaker 2: that we are sending someone who will be a check
- 9:34Speaker 2: on Donald Trump, not a loyal soldier, and visit us
- 9:37Speaker 2: at PeggyFlanagan.com if people want to help support to ensure
- 9:41Speaker 2: that this election goes the right way.
- 9:42Speaker 1: All right. Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, thanks so much
- 9:46Speaker 1: for being here.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Hey, it's Rachel. I am so glad to see you
- 9:49Speaker 3: at the end of that clip because this is where
