- 0:00SPEAKER_00: The best time to call someone is when you don't have to.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: In business and in life,
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: relationships thrive on care that's not tied to a sale,
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: a deadline,
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: or an agenda.
- 0:15Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is reach out just
- 0:21because someone came to mind.
- 0:23Today,
- 0:24our focus is Proverbs 27,
- 0:26verses 23 through 27,
- 0:29because it's the 27th day of the month.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Hi,
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford,
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: and this is Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking away.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: I'm Ernie Lansford,
- 0:48and my desire is to help you connect biblical wisdom to
- 0:52everyday marketplace
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: decisions,
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: allowing you to build relationships that outlast any transactions.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: We work to do our best,
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: really,
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: to bring timeless biblical wisdom and truth into the marketplace.
- 1:08where influence is real,
- 1:10choices are constant,
- 1:12and relationships matter the most.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: So,
- 1:15pour yourself a cup of coffee or whatever it is you drink when
- 1:18this particular
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: podcast comes on,
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: and let's get started.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Today,
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I'm sharing from Chapter 27 of Marketplace Proverbs,
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Volume 2,
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Micro to Macro,
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: The Ripple Effect of Influence,
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: written by yours truly and co-author John Kluter.
- 1:38So I'm going to be reading from the CSB translation or version
- 1:46of Proverbs 27,
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: verses 23 through 27.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Know well the condition of your flock,
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: and pay attention to your herds,
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: for wealth is not forever,
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: not even a crown lasts all time.
- 2:03When hay is removed and new growth appears and the grain from
- 2:08the hills is gathered
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: in,
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: lambs will provide your clothing and goats the price of a field.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: There will be enough goat's milk for your food,
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: food for your household,
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: and nourishment for your servants.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: That's Proverbs 27, verses 23 through 27.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: From my perspective, this passage isn't just about farming.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: It's about stewardship.
- 2:38And just like flocks and herds need daily care,
- 2:43relationships require consistent attention.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Neglect really weakens them.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Nurturing strengthens them.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: In my early years,
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: a family elder,
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: my grandmother Powell,
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: shared a principle I've never forgotten.
- 3:03When someone comes to mind outside of a recent conversation or
- 3:08planned interaction,
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: the Holy Spirit may be prompting you to pray for them,
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: so reach out.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: I've seen this proven over and over.
- 3:20Sometimes it's been weeks or months since I last spoke with
- 3:23someone inside a
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: customer's organization,
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: and suddenly that individual comes to mind.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: And when I called or even send a handwritten card,
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: I often hear,
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: wow,
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: I was just about to call you,
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: or I've been meaning to reach out.
- 3:43Now,
- 3:44even when there wasn't an immediate need,
- 3:47the connection was strengthened.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: And many times,
- 3:51a follow-up conversation uncovered opportunities to help with a
- 3:55project or provide
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: a solution or a prayer request.
- 4:01Handwritten notes have been one of my most effective
- 4:05relationship-building tools.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Whether sent after an on-site visit,
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: which I used to do when I was a field rep back in the 70s,
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: 80s,
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: and 90s,
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: simply say,
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: thinking of you,
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: or thank you for the time,
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: They've built trust in ways that the emails never could.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: A handwritten thank you card.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: I have some printed up with my slogan,
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: customer success mastery is my customer success is my mission celebrated
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: relationship is my goal.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: It's just a small personal touch that says you matter to me.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: You know something that really changes everything.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Listening to the Holy Spirit's promptings isn't just for customers,
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: it's for family and friends too.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I've had moments when someone came to mine in the middle of the night,
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: along with a sense of urgency to pray for them.
- 5:08And following that prompting has led to some of the most
- 5:11meaningful conversations
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: and moments of encouragement in my life.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Acting on those nudges, these nudges is part of stewardship.
- 5:22It reminds us that relationships are personal,
- 5:26spiritual,
- 5:27and eternal,
- 5:29not just transactional.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Proverbs 27 tells us the rewards of good stewardship,
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: ongoing provision,
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: stronger bonds,
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: and the joy of serving with integrity and love.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: When we pay attention to the condition of our flock,
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: whether that's customers or colleagues or family,
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: We create ripples that last far beyond the moment.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Today's customer success quote,
- 6:02relationships grow when you respond to God's prompting before
- 6:07the world gives you a
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: reason.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Lord, thank you for the relationships you've entrusted to me.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: And help me be attentive.
- 6:18to your Holy Spirit's promptings,
- 6:20whether to pray,
- 6:21reach out,
- 6:21or offer practical assistance.
- 6:25Teach me to be a faithful steward who invests in the lives of
- 6:30others with genuine
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: care and intentionality.
- 6:34May my actions reflect your love and create ripples of
- 6:38significance in the
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: marketplace and beyond.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: In Jesus' name, amen.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Well, I've got some expanded action points here.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Responding to promptings is the theme.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Action point number one, acknowledge promptings.
- 6:55When someone comes to mind unexpectedly,
- 6:58pause to pray for them and consider reaching out.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Action point number two, take immediate action.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Call, email, or write a handwritten card.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Don't overthink it.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Just act.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Just respond.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Action point number three, keep a journal.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Record moments when the Holy Spirit prompts you to connect.
- 7:22Reflect later on those actions as to see how they deepened the
- 7:27relationship.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Action point number four, invest in care.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Schedule regular check-ins with key customers,
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: all customers for that matter,
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: team members or family members.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Use these times to listen and encourage.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: And action point number five, listen with intentionality.
- 7:51In every interaction,
- 7:52prioritize adding value and significance over chasing a
- 7:57transaction.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Believe me, the rewards will follow.
- 8:03Well,
- 8:04thank you for joining me on today's episode of Marketplace
- 8:07Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: I'm sharing insights from Proverbs to inspire customer success mastery.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: I want to be really clear here,
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: though,
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: that my goal is to offer practical applications from my own experience.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I'm not here to teach doctrine.
- 8:29I'm committed to staying true to God's Word and avoiding any
- 8:33false teaching,
- 8:34focusing only on how these verses guide us in serving with
- 8:39integrity and wisdom and
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: developing relationships.
- 8:43If you hear me spreading false doctrine,

- 8:5224 through 26 from the Old Testament book of Numbers over you.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: May the Lord bless you and protect you.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: May the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: If this message encouraged you, please share it.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: And remember, success is temporal.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Adding significance to others is infinite.
