Latest / Real Money with Lisa Chastain / Why Women Need to REDEFINE What it Means to be RICH in 2026
Transcript
- 0:02Hey, it's Lisa. Welcome to the Real Money
- 0:04Podcast, where money is emotional before it's
- 0:07mathematical. And in this season, we spent a
- 0:10ton of time talking about things that are happening in the money
- 0:13industry and adjacent to the money industry that are
- 0:16disrupting the way that we live, the way that we work, and the
- 0:19way that we think about our health, our wealth, and our
- 0:22careers. Today's a solo episode, and I'm
- 0:25going to talk about what it really means to be rich as
- 0:28defined by me, and where I see the money world moving as it
- 0:32pertains to women. I'm going to share with you some
- 0:35powerful statistics about the status of women today.
- 0:38And we are on the eve of my 46th birthday.
- 0:42I started this show a few years ago because I didn't feel like
- 0:46when I went on to money podcasts, the real conversations
- 0:49were being had. And if I'm being honest, looking
- 0:51back then with what I know now, is that I felt like there was a
- 0:55lot of bullshit and a lot of conversation about the topic of
- 0:59money. And where my goal was with this
- 1:02podcast was to help fill the gap of having real meaningful
- 1:07conversation for women just like me.
- 1:09I'm a blue collar girl. I grew up on a dirt Rd. in the
- 1:12outskirts of Las Vegas. Now I know Las Vegas is huge
- 1:16today, but 46 years ago it was a small town still.
- 1:19And it is it is still predominantly a blue collar kind
- 1:23of town. Things have changed a lot in the
- 1:26world and in Las Vegas for me. I've had the privilege of seeing
- 1:29this city grew up and I've grown up alongside of it.
- 1:32But when it comes to money conversations, being a blue
- 1:35collar girl, I talk about these things in my book.
- 1:37You've heard about it before, but in this one-on-one solo
- 1:40episode with you, I thought I'd get more, even more real with
- 1:42you. I was noticing some things being
- 1:45in the money industry and conversations that were being
- 1:47had in the money industry that I just didn't resonate with.
- 1:52And what we're getting feedback from over and over again from
- 1:54our listeners in this podcast is that it's real, it's
- 1:59approachable, it's dealing with the emotional side of money.
- 2:03And my hope is that it's continuing to disrupt old
- 2:06patterns, old systems, and old paradigms that are no longer
- 2:10serving us and specifically haven't been serving women for a
- 2:14really long time. So I gave this talk at the Take
- 2:17the Lead event last. What is it?
- 2:19It's November, and that event was October 9th, 2026.
- 2:23And in this talk which I'm going to share with you today, we've
- 2:26got some really powerful statistics to talk about where
- 2:29women are going when it comes to money.
- 2:31And I am here for that conversation, but not
- 2:34exclusively for women. Because what we know is that
- 2:37women, we need men. Men, we need women.
- 2:43This is not a only for women conversation.
- 2:46This is a from a woman's perspective, where we're at and
- 2:48where we're headed and what needs to happen for the balance
- 2:52of the world to return to whole out of a male dominated
- 2:57paradigm. That is what we're leaning in
- 2:59today. I'm so glad you're here.
- 3:01Let's get started. All right, so statistically,
- 3:07here's what we've seen happen in the last year.
- 3:10The financial landscape for women reveals a stark reality
- 3:13that demands our immediate attention, $31 trillion of
- 3:19assets controlled, yet most women would report that they
- 3:24don't feel wealthy. Well, 31 trillion is great, and
- 3:28that's growing by the day. We're in the middle of the
- 3:30greatest wealth transfer. A lot of that wealth is going to
- 3:32come to women, but it's going to come to women
- 3:35disproportionately. The have still have, it's still
- 3:40the top 5% of people who are going to inherit the majority of
- 3:43this. Well, think Warren Buffett, he's
- 3:4498 years old. That money is going to pass down
- 3:48generations, but it's going to pass down to the generations
- 3:50that are already wealthy. So yes, more what?
- 3:52More money is coming to more women in this decade, more than
- 3:56ever before. And yet it's still coming to
- 3:59women disproportionate. And I've got some more
- 4:02statistics that we need to think about and communicate about.
- 4:04And if you're listening to this, I want to know what you're
- 4:07thinking. If you're watching this on
- 4:08YouTube, welcome. Let me know what you're
- 4:10thinking. How does this resonate with you?
- 4:13And the ultimate question for you by the end of this episode
- 4:15is what are you willing to challenge yourself with and do
- 4:18about it? Because in Real Money, that's my
- 4:22goal, is that you come here, you learn, you get new perspective,
- 4:26and you take it back out into your world and you take action
- 4:29because that's where real, real change happens.
- 4:33Not just by listening to this episode, but by taking it in,
- 4:36digesting it, and then deciding for yourself what you're going
- 4:38to do about it. And we'll have some
- 4:40opportunities along the way in this episode for you to to
- 4:43imagine what steps you could take in my world to continue
- 4:47this work with me. 23% of women feel confident about what
- 4:51they're doing with their money. Of the four billion women on the
- 4:55planet today, only 23% feel confident.
- 4:58Where are you in the mix? 70 to 80%?
- 5:02This is the number. This is the percentage of women
- 5:04who will manage money independently at some point in
- 5:07our lives because we live longer than men.
- 5:10That's not changing. So 70 to 80% of us are going to
- 5:14independently own money at some point in our lives. 23% of us
- 5:19feel confident about money, and $31 trillion is being controlled
- 5:23by women and most women don't feel wealthy yet.
- 5:27What is going on? What is going on?
- 5:30Well, from my perspective, we've been taught predominantly by
- 5:33male constructs and we are bombarded by messages of how we
- 5:37are not enough, which then permeates right into our
- 5:40relationship with money. We must have a new framework.
- 5:46We must, we must step into 2026. We must step into these new
- 5:51decades coming before us. We must, as women, step into new
- 5:55framework and new paradigm when it comes to money.
- 5:59And I'm going to talk about what that framework is today or what
- 6:01I believe it should be and the mission that I'm on to help
- 6:03change this conversation to help women have more money, more
- 6:07success, more power, more control, more healing so that
- 6:11the world wins. Because when women have more
- 6:13money, the world wins. We have statistics that back
- 6:15that up over and over and over again.
- 6:17And I know you're with me and that's why you're here in the
- 6:20podcast. So let's stop for a minute.
- 6:22If this conversation is important for you to have, share
- 6:25it out with someone that you love.
- 6:27Share it out with a woman that you love.
- 6:29Let her know what you're listening to.
- 6:30Let's keep the conversation going in your own community and
- 6:34your own sisterhood, in your own network.
- 6:36That's how this work grows and expands and evolves when we do
- 6:39it together. Here's another statistic as of
- 6:42January 2025, Just as of January 2025, it's November 4th that I'm
- 6:48recording this episode. So in the last 11 months, we've
- 6:52had over 200,000 women leave corporate America, women of
- 6:56color, and I've seen this statistic, women of color, over
- 6:59300,000 women of color have left corporate America over the last
- 7:04few years. Corporate America is
- 7:06hemorrhaging right now. People are leaving.
- 7:09Predominantly women are leading corporate America.
- 7:12Why? Why are we leaving?
- 7:15Maybe you're listening to this and you're considered leaving.
- 7:18Maybe you're listening to this and you've already left.
- 7:20Why did you leave? What I know from the
- 7:22conversations I'm having with women is that we're done.
- 7:25We're fed up. We're over it.
- 7:28We don't want to be controlled anymore.
- 7:29We don't want to be told what to do.
- 7:31We want our voice to be heard. We want a seat at the table.
- 7:35We don't want to have to grind to get there.
- 7:38We're just done with it. We're done with the rules and
- 7:40the regulations and the nonsense is happening in corporate
- 7:42America right now. Well, where are we going if
- 7:46thousands and thousands of women are leaving corporate America
- 7:49and we're in the middle of a government shutdown, more people
- 7:51are being furloughed, more people are leaving with or by
- 7:54choice or not choice. They're still they're still
- 7:56leaving. Where are we going?
- 7:59Well, what we're not doing is we're just going home to stay at
- 8:02home. That's not happening.
- 8:04This one statistic backs that up. 49% of new businesses in
- 8:092024 were started by women. 9%, Half of the new businesses that
- 8:13were started by people in America were started by women.
- 8:16So we're not leaving the workforce.
- 8:19We're leading corporate America and we're starting our own
- 8:22companies. Why?
- 8:23Well, most women will tell you they want independence, they
- 8:26want freedom. They want to do things on their
- 8:28own. They don't want to have to
- 8:29report to a narcissistic boss. They are tired of working
- 8:33patriarchal dynamics that are not working for them.
- 8:37Why are you leaving? Let us know what's going on with
- 8:40you. That's what we're here to do is
- 8:41have that conversation open, honest, and loudly.
- 8:44Women and money report card. This is global and regional
- 8:47breakdown. Some of these stats we're going
- 8:49to put into the show notes today.
- 8:50So you can pop into the show notes and grab some of these
- 8:52stats, but I'm going to read them off for you.
- 8:55Globally, 33% of global wealth is held by women today.
- 9:00This is from the Bank of America Institute.
- 9:03This includes financial assets and overall wealth, 33%.
- 9:07So we don't own the majority of the world's wealth yet, even
- 9:10though a good amount is coming to us, although
- 9:13disproportionately it's coming our way.
- 9:16This statistic was about 15% a decade ago, so it's climbing,
- 9:21but still 1/3 of the world's wealth is managed and owned by
- 9:25women. That's it.
- 9:27We're not even at the majority yet.
- 9:28American women is a little bit different, but still we've got a
- 9:30lot of room to grow. And if you go back, I have
- 9:33another episode about this was done about women and money in
- 9:36the history of women and money in the United States over the
- 9:39last 100 years. This speaks into that that this
- 9:42is a statistic that makes a big difference in our mindset
- 9:46because less women owned money over a decade ago than they do
- 9:51today. Which also means that we have
- 9:54women who are facing real time, our own belief system, our own
- 9:59generational patterns, and our own nervous systems to have more
- 10:04wealth, to grow more wealth, to become more independent.
- 10:09There's a lot happening inside of that conversation in my world
- 10:12and in other money worlds where we're confronting mindset head
- 10:16on. And it's going to take some work
- 10:18beyond budgeting for us to be able to get to the other side of
- 10:21this so that the world has 50 percent, 75% wealth owned by
- 10:26women. What would be different if that
- 10:28was the case? I know that's scary to think
- 10:30some guys are like, hold the fuck up, What does that mean for
- 10:33them? Well, we'll never know until we
- 10:35try. But what I do know is that we'll
- 10:37have a healthier world as a result of women having more
- 10:39money. And we've got to lean into that
- 10:41conversation. But the data is clear.
- 10:43We are not yet the owners of the majority of wealth on the
- 10:45planet. We have work to do.
- 10:47Another statistic in global financial assets, 34% of global
- 10:52assets under management are controlled by women.
- 10:55That doesn't necessarily mean owned by women, It just means
- 10:58controlled by women. So let's break this down.
- 11:01This was as of 2023. Global assets under management
- 11:04are controlled by women. That means women are making
- 11:07portfolio and management decisions either in the industry
- 11:11or independent of the industry and family offices.
- 11:14Women's wealth growth is outpacing the market overall.
- 11:18So more and more, more and more money is coming our way.
- 11:20More and more money is coming by our way, but we're still not at
- 11:23the halfway mark. Even though we have half of
- 11:26businesses being opened by women, we still have a ways to
- 11:29go when it comes to over ownership and control of wealth
- 11:33in the United States. Women control about 1/3 of the
- 11:36US household financial assets. Large wealth transfer events and
- 11:39demographics will continue to shift this more and more.
- 11:43So still about 1/3 of the US households are being controlled.
- 11:47Financial assets are being controlled by women.
- 11:50This doesn't say owned by women, by the way.
- 11:52So we have our hands in it. But to me, control and ownership
- 11:56are two totally different things.
- 11:57It may not be solely in our name, although we're running the
- 12:01decisions around it. And then when it comes to
- 12:04spending money, we know that for since the beginning of time,
- 12:06women have spent the majority of money.
- 12:08So it's controlled decisions are happening in our fingertips.
- 12:11This is 1/3 of households in America today.
- 12:14And retirement. Women are expected to accumulate
- 12:18only 74% of men's wealth by retirement, despite equal
- 12:23starting roles. Lifetime events widen the gap.
- 12:26What are those lifetime events? Kids, families.
- 12:31Women are still the caretakers in the family.
- 12:34So we will accumulate only up to 74% of men's wealth by
- 12:38retirement because we have gaps and we have a mindset problem.
- 12:43We have a context problem when it comes to women and wealth.
- 12:47And that is the world. That's the goal of this podcast
- 12:50and the workshops that I'm doing and the work that I'm doing is
- 12:52to help bridge that gap for women and men alike.
- 12:56US single, unmarried adults. Among unmarried adults in 2022,
- 13:00typical single men had 82,000 in wealth versus typical single
- 13:04women 58,000 in wealth. This is from the Pew Research
- 13:08Center. So there's a big gap.
- 13:11There's a big gap. Why I'm here to say I think it's
- 13:13mindset. I think it's mindset over
- 13:16anything and everything that we must continue to work past,
- 13:20which is why I'm on a mission to state say, stop budgeting
- 13:24because we need, as women, a huge breakthrough when it comes
- 13:27to money and scarcity and holding back and cutting back
- 13:32and not spending money are not the answers.
- 13:36Among the world's richest, women are underrepresented.
- 13:40Only 15 of the top 100 billionaires are women.
- 13:45So yes, on social media, we see that there are billionaire
- 13:47women. We see Taylor Swift.
- 13:49I see you, Taylor Swift. You're amazing.
- 13:51I love you. And yet only 15 of 100 are
- 13:56billionaires. Huge gap.
- 13:58When more money is coming to women, more women control money
- 14:02more than ever. More than ever.
- 14:04Still only a third of the money. And there are fewer female
- 14:08billionaires than there are men. We have work to do.
- 14:13Single women historically owned $0.32 of wealth for every dollar
- 14:17that single men own. Why?
- 14:20Why? Well, at this stage in the game,
- 14:24it's not because we're less educated.
- 14:27We're the most educated women on the planet ever than ever
- 14:29before. You've heard me say about
- 14:31you've, you've heard me say this before on the podcast.
- 14:34It's our mindset, y'all, that's our mindset.
- 14:36And I'm going to talk about some ways that you can work on
- 14:39reframing your relationship with money today.
- 14:41And that is what this podcast is about.
- 14:43That is what my world is about. I've got some incredible events
- 14:46coming up next year. You can read my book to get
- 14:50started. I've got women and men coming to
- 14:52me now going, what do we do about this?
- 14:54And I still have some more statistics for you.
- 14:57And I hope that you're in that question too, because it's not
- 14:59going to be budgeting that's going to get us there.
- 15:02Budgeting will get us more of the same, more of the same
- 15:06conversation, more of the same disparities, more of the same
- 15:09inequities, more of the same control.
- 15:13We have to breakthrough into a new paradigm and I'm here to
- 15:17help you with that. Status of women in business.
- 15:20So let's talk about women in business.
- 15:21So earlier we talked about how half, a third of US household
- 15:26assets are being controlled by women, which is different than
- 15:31overall wealth. Not going to get into the total
- 15:34intricacies of that, but statistically nearly half of all
- 15:39US wealth is now controlled by women.
- 15:42But this is disproportionate. Money sits in all different
- 15:46places. So household finance is it's
- 15:48still 1/3 US. Wealth is in existence in a lot
- 15:52of different ways, real estate and different portfolios and
- 15:57business ownership and all kinds of all kinds of ways that that
- 16:02wealth is managed and controlled and owned.
- 16:04So half of that is disproportionately controlled by
- 16:08women. And this is a staggering
- 16:11statistic. So when we're talking about
- 16:12women in business, women are leaving corporate America, women
- 16:15are going to business ownership. And so we're leading corporate
- 16:18America, we're starting businesses, we're becoming
- 16:20entrepreneurs. We're just wanting to figure
- 16:23things out on our own. And yet less than 3% of venture
- 16:27capital goes to women owned businesses.
- 16:31We make less, we control less. We have big dreams, we have big
- 16:36visions, we have big goals. And yet 3% of venture capital
- 16:40goes to women. What is up with that?
- 16:43It's got to be mindset. We're more educated, we're more
- 16:47capable than ever before. It's got to be mindset, right?
- 16:5090% of women will be the sole financial decision maker at some
- 16:53point. So we're rising.
- 16:55But in order to have more, we've kind of now start to confront
- 17:00ourselves, confront our mindset and the statistics go on and on
- 17:06and on and on. But don't be fooled by social
- 17:08media. I'm on social media, you're on
- 17:12social media, you're on CNBC. Maybe, maybe not.
- 17:16Maybe following the world of money and people with money.
- 17:19And you might be thinking to yourself that everyone has money
- 17:22but you or every woman is running a 7 figure business but
- 17:26you or everyone has got this figured out but you.
- 17:30But the truth is that that's not the case.
- 17:33And here are some statistics that back that up.
- 17:36There are 14,000,000 women owned businesses and only three to 5%
- 17:41of them earn over $250,000 annually. 3 to 5% make more
- 17:49$250,000 a year, which means that we have millions and
- 17:55millions and millions of business owners, female business
- 17:58owners, we're making less than $250,000 a year.
- 18:02That's the stats. That's not the reality or that's
- 18:05not what you see or hear on TikTok or Instagram.
- 18:07But I promise you that there are more women making less money
- 18:10than most than the other way around.
- 18:13Only 500 women LED companies generate 500,000.
- 18:18So half a million of the 14 millionaire making between
- 18:23250,000 and $900,000 a year, less than $1,000,000. 88% of
- 18:30female business owners are still making under $100,000 a year.
- 18:35I hope that when you hear those statistics, you realize that
- 18:38you're not alone in your pursuit and you're not alone in your
- 18:41goals. And there is there's some real
- 18:44time reasons why this is happening and we have to be
- 18:47willing to confront some of those paradigms and make those
- 18:50shifts in order to get to the other side of it.
- 18:52But trust me when I say that if you are not yet at that
- 18:56$1,000,000 mark or that multi $1,000,000 mark, you're not
- 18:59alone. Because 88% of female owned
- 19:02businesses are still making less than $100,000 a year.
- 19:06OK, it's a climb. We've got work to do.
- 19:09Now. If this conversation is
- 19:11triggering you, good. If it's poking on your nervous
- 19:14system, good. If it's getting under the
- 19:16surface of all the things that you've been feeling or seeing or
- 19:19watching or knowing or feeling or hearing out in the world,
- 19:22you're not alone. And what I believe is that the
- 19:26old playbook of money isn't working for women.
- 19:29It hasn't worked for women. Slowly, we're making progress.
- 19:32We are making progress. But what would have to happen
- 19:35for us to make faster progress? Well, I think we need to break
- 19:39out of this paradigm of traditional financial advice.
- 19:42This is what I've seen across the board, which is why I'm on a
- 19:44mission to change. It creates a toxic cycle of
- 19:46guilt, shame, and confusion. It wasn't built for women in the
- 19:501st place. If women stay guilty, if we stay
- 19:53ashamed, and if we stay confused, who has the power?
- 19:57Still not us. But when we have clear
- 20:00confidence, one, we can stop relying on financial pundits to
- 20:04tell us what to do. Because if we're not confused,
- 20:07if we're confident, if we're not guilty, we're happy.
- 20:11If we're not filled with shame of the choices that we're making
- 20:14and we're clear, we don't need all this financial advice out
- 20:19there from pundits and experts. We can start thinking on our
- 20:22own. And have clarity and trust from
- 20:24within. And that's the mission that I'm
- 20:26on. That's what I want for you.
- 20:28So I hope that you approach my world like that.
- 20:31Like I'm here to share with you what I know.
- 20:33I'm here to share with you and be a guide.
- 20:35But ultimately, the answers come from within.
- 20:37That is deeper level work. And that's exactly the work that
- 20:40we need to have happen in order for us to start thinking for
- 20:43ourselves and taking new action. So here's the system that's
- 20:47broken for women that needs to shift into a new paradigm.
- 20:51Save more. It's the endless cycle of
- 20:54restriction and deprivation. I've been in rooms with
- 20:57financial advisors who are talking about scarcity and fear.
- 21:01You're not going to have enough by retirement.
- 21:03You have to save more. You need this financial product
- 21:06to make sure that you secure and lock an income over and over and
- 21:10over again. We're just being fed shame and
- 21:12not enough and scarcity. Here's the second thing that we
- 21:15hear over and over and over again in personal finance.
- 21:19Spend less. It's guilt driven decisions
- 21:23making you feel guilty about the decisions that you're making
- 21:25that disconnect you from joy. Don't go out to eat.
- 21:28Dave Ramsey says don't do it if you're in debt.
- 21:32By the way, if you're in debt, you're an idiot.
- 21:34By the way, if you have credit card debt, you're stupid.
- 21:37Oh well, you just didn't know any better.
- 21:39You're ignorant. I've heard these conversations
- 21:41come out of the mouths of financial pundits and it's
- 21:43hurting all of us. So spend less is not a financial
- 21:48strategy. Spending less is not going to
- 21:51get you where you want to go because the most abundant people
- 21:54that I know on the planet spend happily.
- 21:58They spend joyfully. They don't restrict themselves
- 22:01from pleasure. They don't restrict themselves
- 22:03from vacation. They enjoy spending.
- 22:07They don't hold back. What's different about the
- 22:10financial conversations that are happening on TV, on Instagram,
- 22:13and across the board is you're being told to cut to save more,
- 22:17more, more, more, which is a less conversation because if you
- 22:19need more, you don't have enough.
- 22:21Spend less because you're spending too much.
- 22:25We've been hearing this for decades, for hundreds and
- 22:27hundreds of years as women and budget harder On my YouTube
- 22:32channel. I've had men yell at me before.
- 22:34Well, it didn't work for you because you didn't work the
- 22:38system or you're not smart enough or you didn't work hard
- 22:42enough. Budget harder, try harder.
- 22:45These are shame based systems that ignore your reality and all
- 22:49they're designed to do is get ratings and likes.
- 22:52They are not serving you. We've got to shut it down.
- 22:56Shut it down because there is an alternative.
- 23:00Here's how I believe traditional finance is feeling.
- 23:02Women, it's a budget prison. Budget prison says stay in these
- 23:08rigid systems, Just track your money, track every single
- 23:12dollar, and somehow buy magic with more discipline, more
- 23:16self-control, which presupposes that you don't have either.
- 23:21You're going to get what you want.
- 23:22You'll have millions of dollars in the bank.
- 23:24Doesn't work that way, you guys. It doesn't work that way.
- 23:27There's a shame spiral, self blame, guilt cycles that keep
- 23:31women small, apologetic and disconnect us from our financial
- 23:35power. You guys, as a money coach for
- 23:37the last decade, I've had so many women come in to me afraid
- 23:40to share the real stuff, afraid to share what they spent.
- 23:46They're afraid to show me the numbers because they think I'm
- 23:48going to shame them or guilt them.
- 23:50Why are they going to think that?
- 23:51Because that's what's been happening for decades about
- 23:54women and money. We've been controlled, we've
- 23:57been shamed. We've been told we have to
- 23:59budget. Women who write books and
- 24:01finance are telling us that we have to do these same things.
- 24:04They're sharing the same old systems, the same old paradigms.
- 24:07That's creating slow growth. We're not busting through it,
- 24:10it's hurting us. We've got to stop it and there's
- 24:13a huge gap. Does the data supports this
- 24:15between and what success is for women versus what it is for men?
- 24:20We got to shut it down. Here's where we start, and
- 24:22here's where we start. We have to look at the feminine
- 24:25ways of being with money compared to the masculine ways
- 24:28of being with money. The feminine way of being with
- 24:31money is flow and receiving. It prioritizes alignment,
- 24:36collaboration, and intuitive guidance.
- 24:39It focuses on drawing in opportunities, building
- 24:42sustainably, rooted in inner worth and purpose.
- 24:45It's about being, allowing and expanding.
- 24:49That is the feminine way of being with money, compared to
- 24:54the masculine way of money which we've been taught over and over
- 24:57and over again. Emphasizes competition,
- 25:00relentless pursuit, external validation.
- 25:03It focuses on chasing opportunities, controlling
- 25:06outcomes, and often valuing output over process and
- 25:11sustainability. The masculine way of being with
- 25:14money is about doing, striving, and acquiring.
- 25:18And it's hurting all of us. It's hurting all of us real time
- 25:22on the planet today for us to predominantly be in the
- 25:27masculine way of being with money.
- 25:29It's counterintuitive to the feminine, but what happens when
- 25:33we lean over to the feminine, when we talk about being in the
- 25:37feminine way of being with money?
- 25:39Fear. It's fear.
- 25:41It's fear. And also as women we have been
- 25:44taught to ignore those feminine ways of being men.
- 25:49You have to. And for us to even imagine what
- 25:53it would look like or feel like to have money and to be with
- 25:57money, that is not about doing striving and acquiring hyper
- 26:02masculine. It's fear because what if we get
- 26:06it wrong? Well, I'm here to suggest that
- 26:10when we have the courage to lean into flow and receiving, which
- 26:14is where safety comes in, by the way, we have to feel safe enough
- 26:17to receive it. And women, our bodies have been
- 26:20violated. Our brains have been brainwashed
- 26:24to think that it's our fault when we're violated.
- 26:26There's so many reasons why we don't feel safe to open
- 26:30ourselves up to flow and abundance.
- 26:32And it's this dis ease and disconnect between the masculine
- 26:35and feminine when it comes to money that we need to lean right
- 26:39into and bust open. And imagine a world where being,
- 26:44allowing and expanding is the predominant conversation not
- 26:49just for entrepreneurs, but for people on the planet.
- 26:52Because it's more sustainable that way.
- 26:55It's less rigid that way, it's more fluid, it's more fun, and
- 26:59that scares the crap out of a lot of people.
- 27:02It really does. It's time for a feminine model
- 27:05of financial leadership to take shape.
- 27:07It's cyclical, intuitive, it's purpose driven, it's flexible,
- 27:11and it's collaborative. I'm going to pause there, and
- 27:14when we come back from the break, we're going to talk about
- 27:17the work that I'm doing for women, the future of money and
- 27:19women in the way that I see it, in the way that we're creating
- 27:22it in my world, real time. Stick with me.
- 27:25We're going to talk about next steps.
- 27:27We have the status of women. We now know the difference
- 27:29between masculine and feminine when it comes to money.
- 27:31And I'm going to share with you all the things that we're going
- 27:33to do about it after the break. All right, so we're back.
- 27:36So what is the future of money for women?
- 27:38Well, more money is coming to women disproportionately.
- 27:42So we have some glass ceilings of our own to breakthrough in
- 27:45order for more women to have more money, regardless of where
- 27:48they are in the in the framework or structure or hierarchy of
- 27:52money, if you will, on the planet today.
- 27:54But here's what I know. The future of women and money is
- 28:00emotional regulation, values based spending, and a new wealth
- 28:06identity. Those three things combined,
- 28:08when we work with them together create a whole new way of being.
- 28:13When it comes to money and women, we are so ready for it.
- 28:16We are so, so ready for it. Let's talk about each one of
- 28:19those and how they work real time.
- 28:23First, the emotions of money in my book Stop Budgeting, Start
- 28:27Living. So I have my book here.
- 28:29You can grab your copy today and we can work through this
- 28:31together. In the book real time, I talk
- 28:33about your financial set point. Your financial set point was in
- 28:37play before the age of seven. These are what we call our
- 28:40imprinting years. And in our imprinting years, we
- 28:44learned how to be human beings. We learned how to be little
- 28:47tiny, walking, talking human beings.
- 28:49And it's all emotional. It's the feelings, it's the
- 28:52stories, it's the beliefs that drive your financial patterns.
- 28:5695% of the decisions that we make in our money are in the
- 28:59unconscious mind. And that comes from our
- 29:02imprinting years and our modeling years, which is
- 29:04imprinting is zero to seven modeling years is 7 to 14.
- 29:08In my new program, which is a four day intensive retreat style
- 29:13program, it's called the Wealth Within.
- 29:15We lean into that. So it's in my book, you can
- 29:17start on that work right now, but it's also in The Wealth
- 29:20Within which I'm launching next year, where you can get into
- 29:23touch with your emotional relationship with money.
- 29:26There is no way to separate your emotional relationship with
- 29:29money. There is no way to separate
- 29:31logic and figures and facts from emotions.
- 29:34It's impossible. And people who want to tell you
- 29:38that you have to be more disciplined and that you have to
- 29:41control the and track every dollar are ignoring the fact
- 29:45that what happens first is your emotions come into play.
- 29:49Your thoughts and your emotions work together and real time,
- 29:53seconds and seconds every single second, they're influencing the
- 29:56decisions that you're making financially.
- 29:59When you can acknowledge that, then you can begin to work with
- 30:02it. And that's in my money coaching
- 30:04certification that I'm in the process of right now.
- 30:06Certifying coaches to learn how to do this with clients real
- 30:09time, which is the emotional release work, which is the
- 30:12breaking through generational patterns work so that you can
- 30:15begin to work with your emotions, heal the things that
- 30:18you need to heal. Work within your nervous system
- 30:21so that you can then clean up and clear out any disease that
- 30:24you have when it comes to your money.
- 30:27If you're listening to Dave Ram's, if you're listening to
- 30:29Caleb Hammer, you're listening to other kinds of financial
- 30:31experts who don't get this. They're basically telling you
- 30:35that you're fucked up and then it's your fault that you're
- 30:37making the decisions that you're making financially.
- 30:39And it's just not true because it's a it's a conglomeration of
- 30:42generation after generation after generation generation
- 30:45mindset that's inherited that you, you're listening to this,
- 30:51are being charged with reversing and altering the course of
- 30:54history for generations behind you and generations before you.
- 30:57It is way emotional before it's mathematical.
- 31:00Y'all way, way, way. You must lean into that
- 31:05conversation. And then we have values based
- 31:08spending, which is totally different than a traditional
- 31:10budget. A traditional budget is going to
- 31:12work with percentages. It's going to tell you the
- 31:14604040 rule or the 8020 twenty rule. 80% of your money goes
- 31:18here, 20% goes there, full stop. What I mean by stop budgeting, I
- 31:23get this question all the time when I'm a guest for podcasts is
- 31:27what does that mean? What is stop budgeting mean?
- 31:29And also what does a budget mean to you?
- 31:31And what budgeting means to me is that budgeting is trying to
- 31:35control your every dollar, dollar and every cents, not
- 31:39connected to your emotions, not connected to your values, not
- 31:43connected to your priorities, but based on someone else's
- 31:46framework of saying this is what you should do with your money.
- 31:49And then you have a budgeting, like a budgeting app that tells
- 31:52you that you you should only be spending $200 a week on
- 31:56groceries, for example, And then you should only be spending $200
- 32:00a week on gas. And then you only have $50 a
- 32:04week for entertainment. It's very restrictive, It's very
- 32:08line itemed, and it's also very in the rear view mirror because
- 32:12when traditional budgeting, when you're traditionally budgeting,
- 32:16you're saying, well, we're just we're planning on spending this
- 32:18and then we're going to see how we did.
- 32:21Which is different from values based spending, which is
- 32:24aligning your money with what matters to you most first to
- 32:29create your most authentic pathway to get there, which is
- 32:33not following someone else's framework, which is way less
- 32:37mechanical than you think it has to be, which is putting money
- 32:41into a spending account for spending purposes and enjoying
- 32:44it, giving yourself permission to spend.
- 32:47In my world, we spend time breaking these things down so
- 32:51that on the other side of budgeting, we take the budget,
- 32:54we throw it away. We talk about first what's most
- 32:56important to you and what is the vision that you have for your
- 32:59life. It's not that cash flow
- 33:01management isn't important. I'm not saying that in any any
- 33:06of my books or any of the work that I do.
- 33:09The cash flow management and cash flow strategy and future
- 33:13forecasting your cash flow is a totally different way of looking
- 33:17at your money as it flows forward into the future.
- 33:20Then just arbitrarily creating categories and trying to budget
- 33:25thinking of that's going to be the solution to your financial
- 33:27problems and woes. Because it's not.
- 33:29Because there are a lot of reasons you have those financial
- 33:31problems and woes and budgeting is not one of them.
- 33:35OK, so stop trying to slap a budget onto the bigger problems.
- 33:40And in this work, it takes time, it takes some digging, and it's
- 33:44so, so worth it. Also, wealth and identity go
- 33:48hand in hand. You're going to get more of the
- 33:51same by subscribing to the identity that you have today, or
- 33:55the identity that you have in your past, or the identity that
- 33:58your family has. You're just going to get more of
- 34:00the same. But if for those of you who are
- 34:03here because you truly desire to have wealth, first of all, you
- 34:06need to, you need to define what that means for you and only you.
- 34:09Not as defined by someone else, by a financial advisor, by a
- 34:13financial pundit, by anyone else.
- 34:15But what does wealth mean to you specifically for you?
- 34:18What does success mean to you specifically for you?
- 34:21And then let's build a new identity around that.
- 34:24Who is she? Who is she?
- 34:28What is she up to in the world? What does she do on a daily
- 34:31basis? What are the conversations that
- 34:34she's having? True wealth is about who you
- 34:37become, not just what you accumulate.
- 34:40And if you can start in that conversation with your emotions,
- 34:45with your values, with building a new identity for building
- 34:49wealth, you're going to actually become the woman that you
- 34:52imagine becoming. You're not just tracking money
- 34:54for the sake of tracking money. You're not just accumulating
- 34:57wealth for the sake of accumulating wealth.
- 34:59You're becoming the woman that you envision yourself being on
- 35:02the planet today. And we need more of that in the
- 35:06money industry and the money landscape.
- 35:08OK, moving on. Just a few more things to talk
- 35:12about in today's podcast episode.
- 35:14I hope this has been valuable for you.
- 35:16If it has, make sure you like and subscribe to this channel.
- 35:19Share this out with someone. Have a conversation with another
- 35:22woman that you know and love today.
- 35:24Talk about the things that are working in your financial life.
- 35:27Talk about the things that are not working in your financial
- 35:29life. Let's keep the conversation
- 35:31going now. Here's the new playbook for
- 35:33wealth for women and for people on the planet today, Emotional
- 35:37safety. We have to learn how to create
- 35:40emotional safety. And guess what?
- 35:42Emotional safety does not live in the numbers.
- 35:45You cannot just say that by having $1,000,000 you're going
- 35:48to feel safe, because for a lot of people, that's actually the
- 35:50opposite. Emotional safety is by creating
- 35:54a secure foundation where you can make clear, confident
- 35:56financial decisions without fear or anxiety.
- 35:59And that requires you to regulate your nervous system.
- 36:02That requires you to heal from your past money wounds and
- 36:06traumas. You're not really blocked from
- 36:09having the future that you want. It's probably that you just
- 36:12haven't clearly and successfully identified it and laid it out
- 36:15for yourself. Aligned financial practices go
- 36:19right into this new work, this new playbook for wealth, for
- 36:21women, building money habits that reflect your values,
- 36:24support your authentic vision for success.
- 36:26This is a winning combination with emotional safety.
- 36:30Buckle up, buttercup. If you have emotional safety and
- 36:33then you have aligned financial practices, you're moving a new
- 36:37direction. You're not looking in the
- 36:38rearview mirror. You're not needing a budget.
- 36:41Most people in my world stop budgeting.
- 36:43They do track their money, they do look at the flow in and out,
- 36:47but they're not so tight around it.
- 36:49They're not trying to control it.
- 36:51So much radical responsibility goes right into this new
- 36:54playbook. I talk a lot about this in my
- 36:55new book, Stop Budgeting, Start Living, but you've got to own
- 36:58your financial power completely. If you are blaming someone else
- 37:02for where you are in your life or whatever reason, you are not
- 37:06in a responsible conversation and that is keeping you playing
- 37:09small. That is keeping you stuck.
- 37:12That is not putting you into a whole healthy, aligned and safe
- 37:16conversation when it comes to your money.
- 37:19No one's coming to save you financially.
- 37:21No one's coming to save you in your life.
- 37:23It is your job to do this moving forward and it's going to take
- 37:27you being in a radically responsible conversation.
- 37:30If you do not know how to do that, come to the wealth within.
- 37:33I will teach you how to do that in my 4 day event, to shift from
- 37:37victim, from blaming, from mindset.
- 37:40And trust me, there's a lot of that in the financial world too.
- 37:44In the financial landscape, in the government shutdown, we're
- 37:46seeing it real time of people blaming the government for their
- 37:49problems, people who are radically responsible for their
- 37:53lives and their futures. Do not blame anyone, including
- 37:56themselves. So stop blaming yourself.
- 37:59Just do the healing work to release and let go and move
- 38:02forward in a new future where you're feeling emotionally safe,
- 38:06aligned in your financial practices, aligned in your
- 38:08vision, in your purpose for life.
- 38:11You're in a radically responsible conversation.
- 38:14And here's the final piece. Community and sisterhood.
- 38:18We are not meant to operate alone.
- 38:20We are not meant to do this work alone with community and
- 38:24sisterhood. And you are all doing this at
- 38:27the same time, real time. That is how real change happens.
- 38:31That's how it's changing in my world.
- 38:33That's how it's happening in my world.
- 38:35And when these things start to work together, life gets really
- 38:40fun, possibilities open up, and you start to live a life that
- 38:44you love, financially and otherwise.
- 38:47That's a new playbook for women and for wealth.
- 38:50Those things get to happen all together for women to bridge the
- 38:53gap financially. We do it together, We do it with
- 38:56love, so we rise together. When women support women, we all
- 39:02rise. Your success creates permission
- 39:05for others to succeed. There's nothing wrong with you
- 39:08having financial success because you give women permission to
- 39:11succeed. Sisterhood matters.
- 39:13There's data that backs us up. Bernie Brown's work backs this
- 39:16up. There are Co regulation studies
- 39:20that talk about women Co regulating together when it
- 39:22comes to finances. How cool is that?
- 39:24When we can get together? I know this happens in my world.
- 39:27I've got my sisters. We get together, we talk about
- 39:30money, we talk about life, we Co regulate, we support for each
- 39:34other, we keep moving forward, we give each other high fives,
- 39:38we tell each other we're awesome.
- 39:39Yes go make that $1,000,000. Yes go make those multi
- 39:42$1,000,000. Yes stretch outside your comfort
- 39:44zone. Social support lowers coders all
- 39:48and reduces stress and it speeds up recovery.
- 39:51Social support, you need other people to support you.
- 39:54You should not be on this journey alone.
- 39:56We don't want you on this journey alone.
- 39:59Let me land the plane today on in this conversation.
- 40:01So I hope that this has been valuable.
- 40:03I hope these statistics are supportive.
- 40:05I hope that seeing this new paradigm into a feminine
- 40:08paradigm of wealth is helpful. And I want to talk about how I
- 40:12have redefined rich in my own life.
- 40:16In order for us as women of the 21st century, in 2025 and
- 40:21beyond, to have more, to be more, to be seen more, to be
- 40:27hurt less, to be controlled less, in my opinion, we need to
- 40:32redefine the word rich. Because the masculine definition
- 40:36of rich is what more accumulation.
- 40:39It's hurting all of us. The feminine definition of rich
- 40:43for me is resilience, independence, confidence, and
- 40:48happiness. What would your life look like
- 40:50if you just have the courage to learn how to become resilient?
- 40:54Bouncing back from setbacks with grace, with wisdom, building
- 40:58financial strength through every challenge.
- 41:00There will be challenges that you'll get stronger because of
- 41:03them. There's no failure.
- 41:05There's no more self doubt, there's no more shame.
- 41:08There's no more guilt. That builds resiliency so that
- 41:11we can keep going. We're independent.
- 41:13We make choices from a place of freedom, not fear, with a
- 41:16confidence to chart our own financial course.
- 41:20We're confident, trusting our instincts and our abilities,
- 41:23knowing we have what it takes to create lasting wealth for
- 41:26ourselves and for others. And we're happy.
- 41:29We're not stressed. We find joy in the journey.

- 41:40Money grows when we grow, and it matters that we are women.
- 41:43It matters so much that we are women.
- 41:45We are not built to abandon our bodies, ignore our rhythms, and
- 41:49grind ourselves to prove that we belong.
- 41:52It is time for a new paradigm. It is time for a female paradigm
- 41:55when it comes to building wealth.
- 41:57And I'm leading the charge. I'm Lisa Chastain, your host of
- 42:00Real Money. I hope that this conversation
- 42:02was powerful, it was supportive, and that you feel motivated with
- 42:06some clarity on where to look. It's not in the rear view mirror
- 42:09and it's not by budgeting. We can be real, we can be rich.
- 42:12We can be in charge. And I hope that you enjoy
- 42:16today's show. Share it out with someone that
- 42:18you know, you love, and you trust.
- 42:21Let's call other women forward into this conversation.
- 42:23Let's breakthrough our glass ceilings.
- 42:25Let's do this work together. Let's empower and inspire each
- 42:29other to have more, to be more, to dream more.
- 42:33Because the world needs more of that.
- 42:35I'll see you next time.
