- 1:49I didn't expect, Lumberg brought up burning plastic.
- 1:52But like with special scrubbers on the smokestacks as maybe a
- 1:56better solution for disposal, even getting energy back, my
- 2:00first thought was wait, burning plastic isn't that way worse?

- 4:29about new problems like plastics or climate.
- 4:32Maybe we should also remember this overall upward trend.
- 4:35Absolutely. It shows our capacity to
- 4:37innovate to solve problems. New challenges pop up, sure, but

- 7:07Like more extreme weather? Yeah, more frequent or intense
- 7:11heat waves, storms plus sea level rise.

- 8:29mean, it really surprised me. A Lancet study from 2015
- 8:33apparently showed rising global temperatures actually save
- 8:36lives. Oh, houses are around 166,000
- 8:40lives a year globally, mostly because fewer people are dying
- 8:44from the cold. Wow, OK, that's not the
- 8:46narrative you usually hear. Not at all.
- 8:48We focus so much on the dangers of heat right, But this suggests
- 8:51there's a big counter effect from fewer cold related deaths.
- 8:54Historically, cold has killed far more people worldwide.
- 8:58That's interesting. And get this, in the US
- 9:00specifically, way more people die from cold than heat each
- 9:03year. Something like 170,000 deaths
- 9:06linked to cold. Really.
- 9:07That many? Yeah.
- 9:08It shows how vital adequate heating is in winter, and maybe
- 9:12preventing heat deaths with AC is well, simpler or cheaper than
- 9:16making sure everyone stays warm in cold climates.
- 9:18That makes sense. It points to the importance of,
- 9:21you know, regional differences, socioeconomic factors, access to
- 9:25heating and cooling really matters for how vulnerable
- 9:28people are. So the conversation then kind of
- 9:30tackled the whole vibe around climate change, the end of the
- 9:34world narrative, the hysteria, the fear, especially.

- 10:10century. Which is striking, isn't it?
- 10:12Totally stark contrast to the idea of impending doom.

- 10:18Yeah, that long term trend, it shows how much better we've
- 10:23gotten at predicting storms, preparing for them, responding
- 10:26effectively. Better forecasting warnings.

- 10:31disaster plans, it all adds up. So the focus shifted then to
- 10:36more, I don't know, practical solutions, Maybe less dramatic
- 10:40ones like what? Like simple things?
- 10:42Better building codes? Example putting roof clamps on
- 10:45houses in hurricane zones. Simple engineering fixes.
- 10:50Could drastically cut storm damage, but may be overlooked
- 10:53when everyone's focused on huge global climate policies.

- 13:16smarter long term play is massive investment in green

- 13:21Make clean energy cheaper and better.

- 15:04complex. Natural cycles play a big role,

- 15:10And while some data might hint at stronger storms potentially,
- 15:13maybe there's no clear proof they're happening more often.
- 15:16And, interestingly, hurricane damage as a percentage of GDP
- 15:20actually going down. Because we're better prepared.
