- 0:06Speaker 1: Today's podcast is a little different to normal. Usually on
- 0:08Speaker 1: a Thursday it would be a doctor's desk conversation where
- 0:11Speaker 1: we unpack the latest science. Today we're going to unpack
- 0:14Speaker 1: something else it arrived in the mail. Today is an
- 0:16Speaker 1: unboxing and unboxing on the Happy Families Podcast. You won't
- 0:19Speaker 1: be able to see it, but you will be able
- 0:21Speaker 1: to hear it, and we think it might be one
- 0:23Speaker 1: of the most important boxes we've ever unpacked. Hello, Welcome
- 0:27Speaker 1: to the Happy Families Podcast, Real Parenting Solutions every Day.
- 0:30Speaker 1: This is Australia's most downloaded parenting podcast. We are Justin
- 0:34Speaker 1: and Kylie Colson. I'm not going to even pretend that
- 0:37Speaker 1: this is nothing other than a pure sales pitch today,
- 0:40Speaker 1: but it has nothing to do with us. We have
- 0:42Speaker 1: a platform, being Australia's most downloaded parenting podcast, where we
- 0:46Speaker 1: can tell you about things that matter, things that can
- 0:48Speaker 1: change lives. And Kylie, we've been through something that has
- 0:52Speaker 1: been life changing, which is why I now do some
- 0:54Speaker 1: of the work that I do, specifically with a group
- 0:56Speaker 1: called Gotcha for Life.
- 0:58Speaker 2: November six, twenty twenty three literally rocked our worlds as
- 1:02Speaker 2: we were awoken to the news that Justin's nephew had
- 1:08Speaker 2: taken his life, and as a result of that experience,
- 1:13Speaker 2: the conversations that we have with our children, the conversations
- 1:16Speaker 2: that we have with others has changed. It's different and
- 1:22Speaker 2: the opportunity that you have to work closely with Gotcha
- 1:25Speaker 2: for Life is an absolute reaction to that experience, but
- 1:29Speaker 2: one that we hope will actually make a difference in
- 1:33Speaker 2: lives of people all around.
- 1:34Speaker 1: The world such privileged to work with. Gus Wallen to
- 1:37Speaker 1: the team at Gotcha. For those of you who are
- 1:39Speaker 1: not familiar with Gotcha for Life, they're based out of Sydney,
- 1:41Speaker 1: but they do work up and down the East Coast
- 1:42Speaker 1: and across the nation wherever they can. The goal of
- 1:46Speaker 1: Gotcha for Life is to bring suicide to zero in Australia.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Some people say that's ridiculous, you can't do it. Gus
- 1:54Speaker 1: is undeterred. Why because when you have been through it,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you just don't want anyone else to ever ever go
- 2:00Speaker 1: through it.
- 2:01Speaker 2: The idea that we could bring that number to zero
- 2:06Speaker 2: feels extreme, It feels so far fetched, it feels so
- 2:10Speaker 2: unbelievably unachievable. And yet just the very fact that we
- 2:16Speaker 2: have that goal, that that there is somebody or a
- 2:20Speaker 2: group of people who are desirous to do that means
- 2:23Speaker 2: that a life will change as a result of this. Yep,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and one less life lost to suicide. It's worth it.
- 2:39Speaker 1: So let's get to the point of what today's podcast
- 2:41Speaker 1: is about. It's an unboxing. Got your Full Life have
- 2:44Speaker 1: a relationship with Chemist Warehouse. Chemist Warehouse as a chemist
- 2:49Speaker 1: have relationships with pharmaceutical and self care companies all over
- 2:53Speaker 1: the place. And each year, at this time of the year,
- 2:56Speaker 1: if you go into a chemist Warehouse, you will find
- 2:59Speaker 1: box with the Gotcha for Life logo on them, this
- 3:04Speaker 1: Men's care box. In fact, let me have a look
- 3:07Speaker 1: at the box that I've got right here on my
- 3:08Speaker 1: lap because it just arrived in the post today. Gotcha
- 3:10Speaker 1: for Life Men's Care Box supporting men's mental health from
- 3:14Speaker 1: Chemist Warehouse. You can buy it for twenty dollars and
- 3:18Speaker 1: all money raised from the sale of these boxes goes
- 3:22Speaker 1: to Gotcha for Life and doing the important work of
- 3:25Speaker 1: inspiring meaningful conversations about the importance of opening up and
- 3:28Speaker 1: sharing what's really going on. I love what Gus and
- 3:31Speaker 1: Chemist Warehouse and Gotcha have done, and each year they
- 3:34Speaker 1: send me one so that I can tell people about it.
- 3:36Speaker 1: When I've got a platform this big, I'm going to
- 3:37Speaker 1: tell people about it. So Kylie, I'm going to dig
- 3:41Speaker 1: into the box. You can make any commentary about it,
- 3:43Speaker 1: because I might not know what all these self care
- 3:44Speaker 1: products do, because I don't care for myself that well
- 3:47Speaker 1: when it comes to this sort of stuff I'm opening,
- 3:51Speaker 1: I could probably groom better. Look at this. The first
- 3:54Speaker 1: thing I've pulled out is something from Swiss, the multivitamin company.
- 3:57Speaker 1: It's I don't know how to say it, luronic acid
- 4:01Speaker 1: skin glow. I'm going to get a glow up. It's
- 4:03Speaker 1: got vitamin C from Aceerole. It contributes to normal collagenformmation
- 4:06Speaker 1: and healthy glowing skin in peach flavor that is in
- 4:09Speaker 1: the box. Each that in and of itself. Just to
- 4:13Speaker 1: highlight this is a twenty dollars gift box. This thing
- 4:16Speaker 1: would cost you twenty dollars or more just for the
- 4:18Speaker 1: just for the glow up.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I was literally just going to look that up right
- 4:21Speaker 2: now because I know how expensive these are.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Good luck spelling it as well as that. Oh look
- 4:27Speaker 1: that there's a sampler of you remember yup the toilet.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Oh nice, I'm going to be smelling way nicer than
- 4:33Speaker 1: I normally do with the yup. I've got a Listerine
- 4:36Speaker 1: Total Care ten and one. It's one hundred miles of listerine,
- 4:39Speaker 1: which means you can even take it on a plane
- 4:41Speaker 1: overseas and be allowed to use it. I'll look at this.
- 4:44Speaker 1: There is a Gillette skin guard razor, three steps to it,
- 4:49Speaker 1: all the great shaved stuff that's said. Holy smokes, I'm
- 4:51Speaker 1: not going to be able to fit this on the
- 4:52Speaker 1: desk here.
- 4:53Speaker 2: So I'm still stuck on your hydra.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I can't say it either. On the Ironic Yep.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Acid skin glow. They retail for twenty three dollars, so
- 5:04Speaker 2: literally that one product gives you your money back.
- 5:06Speaker 1: You know how much it costs for a Gillette razor. Yeah, okay,
- 5:10Speaker 1: there's also, like I said, the listenerine, there is a
- 5:12Speaker 1: I call it a shower puff that's probably not what they're.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Puff would be.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Shower puff puff a men's exfoliating sponge. I got one
- 5:21Speaker 1: in last year's box and I'm still using it. It's
- 5:23Speaker 1: one of the best ones I've ever used. I'm just
- 5:25Speaker 1: saying it's a really good one. Spend forty nine dollars
- 5:27Speaker 1: there's a there's a Gotcha flyfe special. You can get
- 5:30Speaker 1: thicker full of hair. You can get a discount with Nihox.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And there's some twenty band aid strips. There's a Fuss
- 5:37Speaker 1: Free Naturals Original Man Mask. This is a mask that
- 5:41Speaker 1: goes over your face. But it's beard friendly. Not that
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'll ever have a beard. You won't let me, you
- 5:46Speaker 1: won't kiss me if I have a beard. There's a
- 5:47Speaker 1: skin control pimple patch. We've got some goat soap with
- 5:51Speaker 1: lemon myrtle. When I say goat soap.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Oh, that's what I can smell. As soon as you
- 5:54Speaker 2: opened that box up, it was instant.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Okay, so I mean the goat soap's there. There's there's
- 6:00Speaker 1: also white glow whitening toothpastes in there. The laureal Men
- 6:04Speaker 1: Expert Intense Relaxing Shower Jel. I love that. It's intensely relaxing.
- 6:10Speaker 1: How do you have something less intensely relaxing that feels
- 6:12Speaker 1: a little bit too. There's also the dentist Formulated Fresh
- 6:16Speaker 1: Breath oral rints from Thorough Breath. I think I've said
- 6:19Speaker 1: that right. I hope I got that right. There is
- 6:21Speaker 1: some freshwater farm Australia, Lemon Myrtle and Manica honey body bar.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Oh no, that's the smell. Oh my goodness, it smells
- 6:29Speaker 1: lemon Myrtle. I could if I.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Just have to correct you if I die Manuka, Manuka?
- 6:34Speaker 1: What do I say Manica? In Camper they say Monica.
- 6:38Speaker 1: There's a couple of Bond Eye, Protein Company, Collagen and
- 6:41Speaker 1: protein bars. There's also a couple of level Up hydrations,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and last, but not least, there is a Headgear high
- 6:48Speaker 1: performance matte shaper for men with hair like mine. I'm
- 6:53Speaker 1: going to check that all back into the box. Now,
- 6:55Speaker 1: twenty bucks for the whole thing. I mean, I don't
- 6:57Speaker 1: know one hundred dollars worth of gear in there for
- 7:00Speaker 1: twenty dollars. I mean it's great because you get a bargain,
- 7:03Speaker 1: but I think the main thing is it actually makes
- 7:05Speaker 1: a difference in the lives of people who who need it.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I want, so I spend my twenty dollars to get
- 7:09Speaker 2: one of these boxes. Where does that money go to?
- 7:13Speaker 1: It goes to Gotcha and all of it. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:16Speaker 1: they donate the lot Chemists warehouse doesn't keep anything here.
- 7:18Speaker 1: This is a donation. These brands, White Glow and Headgear
- 7:22Speaker 1: and listenerin Laurel and My Oxen and Swiss and Fuss
- 7:24Speaker 1: Free Naturals and My Beauty in Calvin Klein and Thera
- 7:26Speaker 1: Breath and Jillette and Go It's Open whoever else fresh
- 7:29Speaker 1: Water They have all donated. So this is a donation
- 7:33Speaker 1: so that Gotcha can continue to do the really important
- 7:35Speaker 1: work that they do as we work towards a suicide
- 7:38Speaker 1: free future. I just think it's great.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I don't know if men are the same, but if
- 7:41Speaker 2: I got a box like that, I would be stoved.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Yes you would, Yes you would. I'm pretty stoked. I'm
- 7:49Speaker 1: pretty stoked. But what I want to do now is
- 7:51Speaker 1: I'm going to go down to Chemists Warehouse and buy
- 7:54Speaker 1: a couple of these for some guys in our lives
- 7:56Speaker 1: that need to know that they're love.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Yeah. I have. Actually, as we've been talking, I'm literally
- 8:00Speaker 2: making a list thinking about people in our lives that
- 8:02Speaker 2: could really do with knowing that somebody's looking out for them.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yeah, they'll sell out. So when you listen to the pod,
- 8:07Speaker 1: get down to chemist ware House straight away. If you've
- 8:09Speaker 1: listened to the entire thing, thanks so much. I know
- 8:11Speaker 1: it's a little bit I don't know, and you can't
- 8:13Speaker 1: see what we're doing. And I've just rattled off a
- 8:15Speaker 1: big list of all this cool stuff that I've been
- 8:17Speaker 1: surprised by as I've opened up the box. We're going
- 8:19Speaker 1: to wrap it up there. Just a huge plug for
- 8:21Speaker 1: the team at Gotcha. Check out their Mental Fitness Gym
- 8:24Speaker 1: online and have a conversation with someone. Just check in,
- 8:28Speaker 1: ask them if they're doing all right, tell them what
- 8:30Speaker 1: you're noticing. If things aren't quite right, let them know
- 8:32Speaker 1: that you're there. And if you're having a hard time,
- 8:34Speaker 1: seek support. The conversations matter, and new matter, and the
- 8:38Speaker 1: people around you matter. We've got to do so much
- 8:40Speaker 1: better at helping so that we can get this to zero.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Just as we wrap things up, I was thinking about
- 8:44Speaker 2: an experience I had the other day on the bike.
- 8:46Speaker 2: You and I ride our pushies first thing in the morning.
- 8:49Speaker 1: It's pitch black, Yeah, it is a moment.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And the other day, as we were riding, I watched
- 8:54Speaker 2: this bike coming towards me, but all I could see
- 8:57Speaker 2: was a headlight. I knew that it was a bike.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I couldn't see anyone or anything.
- 9:01Speaker 1: On the stands side of the roads.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I could just see his headlight. It wasn't until
- 9:05Speaker 2: we were literally parallel with each other that I realized
- 9:08Speaker 2: not only was it a bike, but there was a
- 9:10Speaker 2: guy sitting on that seat, peddling furiously underneath that light.
- 9:15Speaker 2: And when I think about this experience, so often we
- 9:18Speaker 2: see the light that's a life, right. We see somebody
- 9:20Speaker 2: going about their day to day. We have no idea
- 9:24Speaker 2: what they're experiencing or how hard they're peddling to stay afloat.
- 9:28Speaker 2: And what Gotcha for Life does is just gives us
- 9:31Speaker 2: an opportunity to be mindful of the people around us
- 9:35Speaker 2: and let them know that they're seeing that they're loved
- 9:38Speaker 2: and they're valued.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Yeah, well said, They might look like they're just cruising along,
- 9:42Speaker 1: but when you get up close, sometimes you can see
- 9:45Speaker 1: a very different picture. And it's worth asking the questions
- 9:47Speaker 1: and doing the investigations. Got You for Life Men's care
- 9:50Speaker 1: boxes available at chemist Warehouse. Grateful to be an ambassador
- 9:53Speaker 1: for Got You for Life and on their advisory board.
- 9:55Speaker 1: What a privilege to be able to do that work.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I wish that we didn't have to do the work,
- 9:59Speaker 1: but what a privilege to be able to do it.
