- 0:03Speaker 1: Hi, get everybody on Dan Horde and thanks for downloading
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Bengals Booth podcast. The It's a New Day. It's
- 0:11Speaker 1: a New Day addition, as the Bengals beat the Steelers
- 0:16Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh for the first time in six years, giving
- 0:19Speaker 1: them two straight wins against the Steelers for the first
- 0:22Speaker 1: time in eight years. Coming up, you'll hear radio replace
- 0:26Speaker 1: from the win, postgame comments from players and coaches, and
- 0:29Speaker 1: analysis from my broadcast partner Dave Lapham. Then, in this
- 0:33Speaker 1: week's fun fact segment, you'll get to know newcomer Trey Hendrickson,
- 0:38Speaker 1: who is obviously a great athlete, but he might just
- 0:41Speaker 1: pale in comparison to his wife. The details are coming up.
- 0:46Speaker 1: The Bengals Booth Podcast is presented by bud Light. Seltzer
- 0:50Speaker 1: refreshed the Game and here's a quick reminder that you

- 1:00Speaker 1: google Play, Spotify, or pod Bean. It's the greatest thing
- 1:04Speaker 1: since the chicken palm sandwich at the Bread Bar. I
- 1:10Speaker 1: have a new contender for Cincinnati's best sandwich, the chicken
- 1:14Speaker 1: palm at a cafe called the Bread Bar on Gilbert
- 1:17Speaker 1: av and Walnut Hills. It's gigantic, it's delicious. The sauce
- 1:22Speaker 1: has a slightly spicy kick, and it's served on freshly
- 1:26Speaker 1: baked bread. What's not to love. They're only open from
- 1:30Speaker 1: ten to two, so try one for lunch. You just
- 1:34Speaker 1: might see me there. Now, let's get to Sunday's win.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Last week in Chicago, Joe Burrow had three straight passes
- 1:43Speaker 1: intercepted by the Bears. On Sunday in Pittsburgh, it happened
- 1:47Speaker 1: again on the Bengals second dry Burrow ready for the
- 1:50Speaker 1: gun snap, clapping his hands furiously, Hopkins fires it back.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Burrow with time whistles a fastball over the middle and
- 1:57Speaker 1: it is deflected at intercepted at the money nine yard line.
- 2:00Speaker 1: The Steelers are running it back to the forty to
- 2:03Speaker 1: the forty four the tackle made there, Terrell Edmonds coming
- 2:08Speaker 1: up with the ricochet for the interception for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 2:12Speaker 1: That is the Pittsburgh Steelers first interception of the season.
- 2:16Speaker 1: But less than a minute later, the Bengals took the
- 2:18Speaker 1: ball right back. Rothlisberger hit ball is it accepted at
- 2:23Speaker 1: the forty yard line. The Bengals will take over at
- 2:26Speaker 1: the Steelers forty one. Sam Hubbard put the hit on
- 2:30Speaker 1: Ben Roethlisberger, and Logan Wilson made a one handed juggling
- 2:34Speaker 1: interception before going to the ground. He'll give the ball
- 2:38Speaker 1: to the Bengals in Steelers territory officially at the forty
- 2:41Speaker 1: two yard line, and six plays later, the Bengals were
- 2:44Speaker 1: in the end zone, browing the gun on third down
- 2:47Speaker 1: and two. He catches the snap, he's looking. He throws
- 2:49Speaker 1: pits caught Tyler Boyd at the ten for the first
- 2:51Speaker 1: TI faits a tangle to the five to the goal line,
- 2:56Speaker 1: touchdown Bengals, Tyler Boyd pinballing off tacklers and taking it
- 3:02Speaker 1: in for the seventeen yard score. Perfect description. Boyd, of course,
- 3:07Speaker 1: grew up in the Pittsburgh area before starring at pitt
- 3:10Speaker 1: Here's Joe Burrow on t b's TD. He catches something
- 3:15Speaker 1: underneath and he goes and tries to run somebody over.
- 3:17Speaker 1: That's kind of guy he is. I think that's part
- 3:19Speaker 1: of being from Lapaltia, you know, being in that area
- 3:23Speaker 1: of Pittsburgh tough. You know, it's TV's a really, really
- 3:26Speaker 1: good player that I'm excited to play with the Bengals
- 3:28Speaker 1: took a seven nothing lead to the second quarter, but
- 3:31Speaker 1: with nine and a half minutes left and a half,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Ben Roethlisberger went to work, leading the Steelers on a
- 3:36Speaker 1: fifteen play eighty six yard drive that took more than
- 3:40Speaker 1: eight minutes off the clock. Three receivers right, one out
- 3:43Speaker 1: to the left. Ben has the ball, rolls right, passes
- 3:45Speaker 1: into traffic. Friar Mouth extends the ball touchdown. Pittsburgh. Well,
- 3:51Speaker 1: that's a gut punch to score with a little over
- 3:53Speaker 1: a minute to go in the first half. The shovel
- 3:56Speaker 1: pass touchdown to tight end Pat friar Mouth made it
- 3:59Speaker 1: seven seven with one oh four to go. According to
- 4:02Speaker 1: the athletics Jay Morrison, that's the twenty fifth time in
- 4:05Speaker 1: the last thirty meetings that the Steelers have scored in
- 4:08Speaker 1: the final two minutes of the first half against Cincinnati.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But it took just three plays for Burrow to answer.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Joe and the Gun catches the snap, fakes the p
- 4:18Speaker 1: Rhyan throws it high and deep down the left side.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Chase has it in the end zone, touched down. Mangals.
- 4:25Speaker 1: What a throw by Joe Burrow to Jamar Chase, who
- 4:29Speaker 1: extended his arms and reeled it in for the thirty
- 4:32Speaker 1: four yards score. Unbelievable. More specifically, the catch was unbelievable.
- 4:37Speaker 1: His chase hauled it in by the back half of
- 4:40Speaker 1: the ball and get this, Jamar became the first player
- 4:44Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl era to have a touchdown catch
- 4:47Speaker 1: of thirty or more yards in each of his first
- 4:50Speaker 1: three NFL games. It was a hell of a throw
- 4:52Speaker 1: by Joe. You know what I'm saying. He laid me
- 4:55Speaker 1: out forward. I'm not behind, not a jumbob, but no
- 4:59Speaker 1: in front of me. Us Really what receiver wants and
- 5:02Speaker 1: to make extend to catch like I did, perfect time.
- 5:04Speaker 1: And so that was a great throw by Joe. It
- 5:06Speaker 1: gave the Bengals of fourteen seven halftime lead, and they
- 5:09Speaker 1: started the third quarter with a ten play drive that
- 5:12Speaker 1: ended with a forty three yard field goal by Evan
- 5:14Speaker 1: McPherson to make it seventeen to seven. Here's Zach Taylor.
- 5:18Speaker 1: That's how we want to play. We want to dominate
- 5:20Speaker 1: the in the half and then come out strong to
- 5:21Speaker 1: sort of the third quarter. Puts in a great position
- 5:23Speaker 1: than to play. How we know, we got to play
- 5:24Speaker 1: on the road. The Steelers had to play catch up
- 5:27Speaker 1: in the second half, Pittsburgh's offense consisted of thirty seven
- 5:31Speaker 1: passes and only three runs. Big Ben has the ball
- 5:36Speaker 1: fakes to the right, running toward the middle of the field.
- 5:38Speaker 1: He intercepted because a penalty flag down. Logan Wilson tackled
- 5:43Speaker 1: at the nineteen yard line. Big Ben faced down on
- 5:46Speaker 1: the grass right now, now getting to his knees and
- 5:50Speaker 1: to his feet, will the interception? Yes, number fifty three. Yes,
- 5:55Speaker 1: penalties decline, so those plays a first down Cincinnati Logan
- 5:59Speaker 1: Wilson in interception. Logan Wilson will be leading the National
- 6:04Speaker 1: Football League an interceptions, I mean, unbelievable. Logan Wilson had
- 6:08Speaker 1: ten interceptions at Wyoming. He has five and nineteen NFL games.
- 6:13Speaker 1: That's incredible stuff for a linebacker. I credit a lot
- 6:17Speaker 1: of that to not really playing linebacker until I got
- 6:19Speaker 1: to the college level. Truthfully, Um, you know, I was
- 6:22Speaker 1: I was a slot receiver, I was a defensive back,
- 6:24Speaker 1: so I was always you know, I kind of um
- 6:27Speaker 1: developed my my ball skills, you know, as I was
- 6:29Speaker 1: growing up. And um, and then and then back to
- 6:32Speaker 1: the whole thing about running to the ball. If you're
- 6:34Speaker 1: always running to the ball, you're always gonna have a
- 6:36Speaker 1: chance to make plays on the ball, maybe, whether that's
- 6:38Speaker 1: trying to get a strip or someone else trips it
- 6:40Speaker 1: and you be able to fall in and recover it. Um,
- 6:42Speaker 1: that's just one thing I've always prided myself on and
- 6:44Speaker 1: I will continue to do so. He appears to be
- 6:47Speaker 1: a great third round pick and has a fan in
- 6:50Speaker 1: last year's first round pick, and he's playing at an
- 6:53Speaker 1: elite level, and he's he's a guy that you love
- 6:56Speaker 1: to have on your team and you would hate to
- 6:58Speaker 1: play against, you know whenas in zone coverage, he reached
- 7:02Speaker 1: quarterback size better than anybody. And not only does he
- 7:04Speaker 1: do that, but then he makes plays on the ball.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Wilson's second I NT put the Bengals in the red
- 7:09Speaker 1: zone and led to burrows third touchdown pass of the game,
- 7:12Speaker 1: Burrowing the gun with Nixon to his left, a two
- 7:15Speaker 1: by two formation for Cincinnati, Burrow back to pass standing
- 7:19Speaker 1: looking fires over of the man caught for the touchdown.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Chumar Chase with his second touchdown catch of the game,
- 7:28Speaker 1: his fourth in three NFL games. He beat Joe Hayden
- 7:32Speaker 1: and the Bengals increased their lead. That was the best
- 7:36Speaker 1: pass protection I've seen this year out of the offensive line.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Every single pass rusher from the Steelers was wired and
- 7:44Speaker 1: wired shut. The pass protection was so good that Chase
- 7:48Speaker 1: was actually burrows fifth read on that play. That's what
- 7:51Speaker 1: I said to the whole line, like I got, I
- 7:53Speaker 1: was able to get to my fifth read. And that's
- 7:55Speaker 1: all because of you guys in this league. When you
- 7:57Speaker 1: can get to your fifth three, your fifth three is
- 7:59Speaker 1: almost always open. And so that's that's It was twenty
- 8:02Speaker 1: four to seven Bengals midway through the third quarter. That's
- 8:05Speaker 1: the most points they've scored at Heinz Field since two
- 8:08Speaker 1: thousand and six. And if that wasn't a rarity, consider this.
- 8:13Speaker 1: This will be a forty two yard field goal for
- 8:15Speaker 1: Chris Boswell. Once in my life, I would like to
- 8:17Speaker 1: see him miss a kick against the Cincinnati Bengals. His
- 8:21Speaker 1: kick is and it is miss galled. It jis Boswell
- 8:27Speaker 1: has missed a kick. Had last against the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 8:32Speaker 1: He was fifty eight for fifty eight between field goals
- 8:36Speaker 1: and p eights and the jinks worked it did. It's
- 8:41Speaker 1: about time, dad, my life is complete. Boswell did make
- 8:45Speaker 1: a short field goal in the fourth quarter to cut
- 8:48Speaker 1: the lead to fourteen. But that was his clothes, his
- 8:50Speaker 1: big ben and the Steelers would get He's back to
- 8:53Speaker 1: throw against the four man rush Cox. The arm throws
- 8:56Speaker 1: dropped by nag Harris at again. Then about that and
- 9:00Speaker 1: that is coffin nails by Amy. The final score Cincinnati
- 9:06Speaker 1: twenty four, Pittsburgh ten. Here are Trey Hendrickson, Logan Wilson,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and Zach Taylor on a huge road win. You know,
- 9:15Speaker 1: we bounced back with a lot of heart, I think,
- 9:18Speaker 1: fighting back from the tough loss last week. And I
- 9:21Speaker 1: know these guys are hungry, resilient, and we're a tight
- 9:24Speaker 1: knit group and that's something that's really special in this league.
- 9:26Speaker 1: We always believed in each other, with the team that
- 9:28Speaker 1: we have right now, that we could do something like this.
- 9:30Speaker 1: There's just a matter of putting it together and getting
- 9:33Speaker 1: a win in a hostile environment in Pittsburgh against a
- 9:37Speaker 1: great team. So it's big for us. This is something
- 9:39Speaker 1: we needed, but it's just a small step in our
- 9:42Speaker 1: journey for the rest of the season. You know, we
- 9:43Speaker 1: expect to be on the road win divisional games, to
- 9:46Speaker 1: achieve all the things that we talk about internally as
- 9:48Speaker 1: a team. This is something that's necessary and and it's
- 9:52Speaker 1: it's it's a big win, but we got to turn around.
- 9:54Speaker 1: We play up Thursday night, you know, so these guys
- 9:56Speaker 1: got to turn around and get focused right now. On
- 9:58Speaker 1: the stat sheet, Joe Mixon ran for night yards on
- 10:00Speaker 1: eighteen carries, and Burrow was fourteen for eighteen for one
- 10:04Speaker 1: hundred and seventy two yards, three touchdowns, one pick, and
- 10:07Speaker 1: a passer rating of one twenty two point nine. But
- 10:11Speaker 1: the most significant stat was zero in fact two zero's
- 10:16Speaker 1: under sacks and quarterback hits for Pittsburgh. The Bengals much
- 10:21Speaker 1: maligned offensive line ended the Steelers NFL record streak of
- 10:26Speaker 1: seventy five games with at least one sack. Dave Lapham
- 10:30Speaker 1: talked to offensive line coach Frank Pollock after the game. Coach,
- 10:35Speaker 1: Steelers had a record NFL record seventy five straight games
- 10:39Speaker 1: with a quarterback sack. Today, zilch, zippo, not a squaduge
- 10:44Speaker 1: no sacks. How's it feel? Well, it's it's an ultimate
- 10:49Speaker 1: team game. In the line fought hard, the backs fought hard,
- 10:52Speaker 1: the tight ends fought hard. The receivers are running to
- 10:54Speaker 1: get open. The corbacknos were to go with the ball.
- 10:56Speaker 1: It's the ultimate team game. It's an ultimate team accomplishment there.
- 11:00Speaker 1: You know, you had such balance that Joe Burrow goes
- 11:02Speaker 1: fourteen for eighteen, three touchdown passes, Joe Mixon seventeen carries
- 11:07Speaker 1: ninety one yards. When you when you're balanced like that,
- 11:10Speaker 1: even even really good defensive teams, you know they're they're
- 11:13Speaker 1: on new heels, aren't they. Yeah, Zach called a great game. Um,
- 11:17Speaker 1: it was. It was fun to be on the sidelines
- 11:19Speaker 1: with him and interacting with him and called a great game.
- 11:22Speaker 1: He was into it. They were giving us some challenges,
- 11:26Speaker 1: having adjusts versus base, versus eleven personnel, and he was
- 11:29Speaker 1: all over it getting us to the right stuff. And
- 11:32Speaker 1: the players are out there next year they have the
- 11:33Speaker 1: hard job, and he did an excellent job executing and
- 11:36Speaker 1: the unfortunately even had a couple of penalties that cost
- 11:38Speaker 1: us some other good runs unfortunately, but the team played hard.
- 11:42Speaker 1: That's against the ultimate team game. The defense put us
- 11:44Speaker 1: in great positions and it was a lot of fun
- 11:46Speaker 1: to be a part of. You had a rookie with
- 11:48Speaker 1: his first NFL start in Pittsburgh against the Steelers, Jackson
- 11:52Speaker 1: Carman held his own in there. He held his own
- 11:55Speaker 1: and he showed me that that that he can get
- 11:58Speaker 1: a little you know what in his neck when he
- 12:00Speaker 1: needs to. Yeah, you means so that that showed his
- 12:03Speaker 1: teammates what he's all about in this environment. He stood
- 12:07Speaker 1: up to it and did an outstanding job. I'm really
- 12:09Speaker 1: proud of him. He's really hard. How about Riley Reefs,
- 12:13Speaker 1: he came back into the football game, just kind of
- 12:15Speaker 1: turned the ankle a little bit out. Did I scare
- 12:17Speaker 1: you a little bit? A little bit? But he's old
- 12:19Speaker 1: school man. You don't spit on it. Put some tape
- 12:22Speaker 1: and go out there and play right. He's from your error. Man.
- 12:24Speaker 1: That's good stuff. I hear that, coach. So two in
- 12:27Speaker 1: one record you're in. You're in a tie for first
- 12:30Speaker 1: place in the in the division. After two to three games,
- 12:34Speaker 1: it's week three. I could care less when any of
- 12:36Speaker 1: that stuff is. All we know is got a game
- 12:38Speaker 1: on Thursday. That's all we're looking forward to is uh,
- 12:41Speaker 1: you know, the next the next, the next challenge. So
- 12:43Speaker 1: none of that else stuff matters. We don't control that
- 12:46Speaker 1: our stuff. We just control what we got next. And
- 12:47Speaker 1: that's Jacksonville. A final question, Jacksonville short week, and that
- 12:52Speaker 1: that's gonna be hell on the coaching staff. I mean,
- 12:54Speaker 1: how do you prepare for an NFL team that you
- 12:56Speaker 1: don't play all that often such a short period of time.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I'm and you guys, there's not enough hours in the day,
- 13:01Speaker 1: is there. It's it's hell on the players. Who cares
- 13:03Speaker 1: about the coaches. We got the easy job. The players
- 13:05Speaker 1: got the hard jobs. So that's so we got to
- 13:07Speaker 1: get them rested up. And Zach does always a great
- 13:09Speaker 1: job with them and takes care of them so they
- 13:11Speaker 1: can play at their best. So appreciate your coach, Appreciate you.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Thank you. Offensive line coach Frank Pollock. So, the Bengals
- 13:18Speaker 1: host Urban Meyers Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. The
- 13:22Speaker 1: Jags areo and three after a thirty one nineteen loss
- 13:25Speaker 1: to the Cardinals on Sunday, and we'll bring an eighteen
- 13:29Speaker 1: game losing streak to Paul Brown Stadium. Now time for
- 13:33Speaker 1: postgame analysis with lab After losing eleven straight to the Steelers,
- 13:37Speaker 1: the Bengals have now won two in a row, going
- 13:39Speaker 1: back to their win on Monday Night Football last year.
- 13:42Speaker 1: What did you think were some of the biggest keys
- 13:44Speaker 1: to this win. I thought the line of scrimmage. You know,
- 13:47Speaker 1: we talked about you know, which offensive line was gonna
- 13:51Speaker 1: get enough of a running game established where they could
- 13:53Speaker 1: protect the quarterback and balanced their game out a little bit.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And I thought that, you know, they really stuffed now
- 14:00Speaker 1: Harris in the running game and turn him into another
- 14:03Speaker 1: wide out basically in the short intermediate passing game that
- 14:07Speaker 1: Ben is throwing sixty times a game, it seems like
- 14:09Speaker 1: these days. And you know, Joe Mixon the rush over
- 14:12Speaker 1: ninety yards and then you know Joe Burrow kind of
- 14:15Speaker 1: compartmentalizing after the interception and being as efficient as he was,
- 14:19Speaker 1: you know, was ballgame. And I thought, you know, for
- 14:22Speaker 1: the offensive line to pitch a shout out against the
- 14:26Speaker 1: Pittsburgh Steelers, who had a sack in seventy five straight
- 14:28Speaker 1: games an NFL record, is is really good. And again
- 14:32Speaker 1: it's not just the offensive line. Joe had a lot
- 14:34Speaker 1: to do with that and everybody. It's a team sport.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I talked to Frank Pollock after the game, and he
- 14:39Speaker 1: was quick to point that out a lot of things,
- 14:41Speaker 1: a lot of things happen for them not to give
- 14:44Speaker 1: up a sack, that's big, though. I mean, for those
- 14:46Speaker 1: guys who have been so maligned for several years now,
- 14:50Speaker 1: to be the team that ends that streak, even if
- 14:52Speaker 1: it was only eighteen attempts, who cares. That's a great
- 14:56Speaker 1: point of pride for those guys. There's no doubt. And
- 14:59Speaker 1: you know that's that's almost how you the fact that
- 15:02Speaker 1: you're able to run the ball, well, the fact that
- 15:05Speaker 1: the defense shut it down. That's what he means. There's
- 15:08Speaker 1: a lot of components to being able to pitch the
- 15:11Speaker 1: shut up, but the fact is there's no esteris there.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I mean, they stopped the streak, and uh, you know,
- 15:16Speaker 1: that's that's what it's all about in football. It's one
- 15:19Speaker 1: of the reasons I love it so much. It's the
- 15:20Speaker 1: ultimate team sport, and um, you know, wins like this
- 15:25Speaker 1: show that really, you know, it's probably even more telling
- 15:28Speaker 1: than the fact that they did not give up a sack.
- 15:30Speaker 1: You asked Joe Burrow a question in the postgame news
- 15:32Speaker 1: conference that elicited a tremendous answer. What was your read
- 15:36Speaker 1: on the touchdown pass? The second touchdown pass to Jamar
- 15:40Speaker 1: Chase that was read number five. He went through his options.
- 15:44Speaker 1: He's covered, he's covered, he's covered, he's covered. He gets
- 15:46Speaker 1: to the fifth read and throws a touchdown pass. That's
- 15:49Speaker 1: great blocking it is And Jamar Chase I talked to
- 15:52Speaker 1: him in the locker room and he said the same thing.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Because I was backside, I was the last guy and
- 15:57Speaker 1: uh and he said, you know, Joe, Joe came back
- 16:00Speaker 1: to me. I'm like, well, you know, this is an
- 16:02Speaker 1: opportunity here. So yeah, I think once they get locked in,
- 16:06Speaker 1: you know, and people are gonna you know, poo poo
- 16:08Speaker 1: a lot of things. Ah, there was no wat, there
- 16:10Speaker 1: was no there, no that bottom line. That's life in
- 16:12Speaker 1: the National Football League. And honestly, Frank Pollock made mention
- 16:17Speaker 1: of it. Zach made mention of it. The Pittsburgh Steelers
- 16:20Speaker 1: because of the injuries, they were running different personnel groupings
- 16:23Speaker 1: and things they hadn't done. They had to go back,
- 16:26Speaker 1: you know, in their memory banks, like over that ten
- 16:28Speaker 1: game period last year and in the you know, the
- 16:31Speaker 1: first couple of games this year to get the adjustments
- 16:35Speaker 1: that they needed to make and get them done. And
- 16:37Speaker 1: they did it well enough to win by two scores.
- 16:40Speaker 1: How about Jamar Chase targeted five times, four catches, sixty
- 16:43Speaker 1: five yards, two touchdowns this week, including a thirty four
- 16:47Speaker 1: yard or third player in the history of the National
- 16:49Speaker 1: Football League to have three touchdown catches of twenty five
- 16:52Speaker 1: or more yards in his first three games. I jokingly
- 16:55Speaker 1: said on the broadcast, I apologize on behalf of all
- 16:58Speaker 1: members of teams. Still, we thought it would have been
- 17:01Speaker 1: better to take the offensive lineman. He has provided exactly
- 17:05Speaker 1: what this offense needed. He really has. I mean, when
- 17:07Speaker 1: there's man coverage on the outside, it's it's it's curtains,
- 17:11Speaker 1: it's coffin nails. And to make the catch he made,
- 17:14Speaker 1: I mean he made a catch that I'd only seen
- 17:16Speaker 1: Isaac Curtis. To catch the back half of the football
- 17:19Speaker 1: when you're a speed guy like that, to be able
- 17:21Speaker 1: to focus and concentrate enough these guys when they run,
- 17:25Speaker 1: their head is so still. You know their head's not
- 17:27Speaker 1: bouncing around. If they can track the ball when they're
- 17:30Speaker 1: running at such an extreme speed, it's remarkable. And to
- 17:33Speaker 1: catch the back half of the football like that, you know,
- 17:36Speaker 1: when you have a defender you're worried about you're running
- 17:38Speaker 1: up the field. I mean, it's it's it's remarkable to
- 17:40Speaker 1: play he made. I thought his hands weren't good. Yeah,
- 17:43Speaker 1: what happened to what happened to Stone hands man? That's
- 17:46Speaker 1: a that's an urban urban myth now, So I don't
- 17:50Speaker 1: want to make too much of a big deal out
- 17:51Speaker 1: of this. It's Week three, the Bengals are two and one,
- 17:54Speaker 1: the Steelers are one and two. But are we seeing
- 17:56Speaker 1: a change of the guard in the rivalry? The Angles
- 18:00Speaker 1: have the great young quarterback in Joe Burrow. Ben Roethlisberger
- 18:03Speaker 1: appears to be, you know, running out of gas at
- 18:05Speaker 1: thirty nine in his eighteenth season. What do you think
- 18:08Speaker 1: are we seeing a change of the changing of the
- 18:10Speaker 1: guard in this rivalry? I think I think it's it's
- 18:13Speaker 1: potentially the case. I mean, you know, you're right, um
- 18:16Speaker 1: Ben is uh, you know, Ben's putting out on eighteen
- 18:20Speaker 1: and Joe Burrows just he's finishing maybe the second hole.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I mean, he's just starting out on his and you
- 18:27Speaker 1: look at it. The Bengals defense is closing in on
- 18:29Speaker 1: what the Pittsburgh Steelers are doing in terms of you know,
- 18:33Speaker 1: I mean it's totally different structure and scheme and all
- 18:35Speaker 1: that sort of thing, but personnel, they got some playmakers,
- 18:37Speaker 1: you know, both teams do, and the Bengals are a
- 18:39Speaker 1: lot closer to where Pittsburgh's been at such a high
- 18:42Speaker 1: level for for so many years, and they're both trying
- 18:45Speaker 1: to get their offensive lines right. I mean, there's a
- 18:47Speaker 1: lot of things. These teams are very similar, and I
- 18:50Speaker 1: think right now it's it's uh, it's hit that point
- 18:53Speaker 1: where on the curve they're both there. Now one is ascending,
- 18:56Speaker 1: the other one is declining. All right, we all like
- 18:59Speaker 1: to be a fly on the wall of places that
- 19:01Speaker 1: we can't go. You are one of three people that's
- 19:04Speaker 1: allowed into the locker room after the game in order
- 19:07Speaker 1: to do your postgame interviews. What was the atmosphere like
- 19:11Speaker 1: after winning in Pittsburgh today? Well, by the time I
- 19:13Speaker 1: was letting there, it was all pretty much, you know,
- 19:17Speaker 1: calm down, it was. It was excited though we could
- 19:20Speaker 1: we could listen in and hear from the doorway, and
- 19:22Speaker 1: guys were obviously pumped up about it, and rightfully so.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Um when I got there, though, guys were you know,
- 19:28Speaker 1: in different places the shower or the training room, whether
- 19:31Speaker 1: the case may be. But everybody had that that quiet
- 19:36Speaker 1: look of satisfaction, you know, I mean for that deal
- 19:39Speaker 1: of I remember what it was like to come here
- 19:41Speaker 1: and win, and that that feeling of feeling of satisfaction.
- 19:44Speaker 1: There's nothing there's nothing like it. It's like Tiger Johnson
- 19:48Speaker 1: I said many times, Dude, this as long as you can,
- 19:52Speaker 1: you'll never find another job like it. Tiger was right
- 19:55Speaker 1: as usual. Here's a quick invitation to join Lapping Me
- 19:58Speaker 1: for the Bengals Game Plan Show on Wednesday night from
- 20:01Speaker 1: six to eight. We'll be at the Holy Grail Banks
- 20:04Speaker 1: across from Great American Ballpark and our guests will include
- 20:08Speaker 1: Ken Anderson the night before he enters the Bengals Ring
- 20:11Speaker 1: of Honor. We'll have a bunch of giveaways as well,
- 20:14Speaker 1: so we hope you can join us Wednesday night from
- 20:16Speaker 1: six to eight. The Bengals Booth Podcast is presented by
- 20:20Speaker 1: Bud Light Seltzer. It's light and refreshing with a hint
- 20:23Speaker 1: of fruit flavor. Now time for this week's fun facts
- 20:26Speaker 1: segment or you get to know the person under the pads.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Time for some fun facts of Bengal defensive Entrey Hendrickson
- 20:34Speaker 1: from Orlando, Florida. According to your dad, when you were
- 20:38Speaker 1: four or five, you told him you were going to
- 20:40Speaker 1: be a professional football player. I doubt you remember that conversation,
- 20:45Speaker 1: but was this your dream for as long as you
- 20:47Speaker 1: can remember? Yeah, I mean playing football and competing at
- 20:50Speaker 1: a high level has always been a dream of mine
- 20:52Speaker 1: and aspiration that my parents have obviously fueled me through
- 20:56Speaker 1: the entire journey. So it's a it's been a blessing
- 21:00Speaker 1: and a journey, and I'm happy to be here. Were
- 21:03Speaker 1: you one of those kids who was basically good at
- 21:06Speaker 1: every sport you played? Um? I was. I was gifted
- 21:10Speaker 1: in some ways, just height and strength and then you know,
- 21:14Speaker 1: wanting it. You know a lot of high schoolers in
- 21:16Speaker 1: that aspect don't necessarily want it. So you know that's
- 21:20Speaker 1: one thing I could I could say is hard work works,
- 21:23Speaker 1: you know, and that was something my dad again instilled
- 21:27Speaker 1: in me. And uh, hard work on the basketball court,
- 21:30Speaker 1: lacrosse field, baseball and football. It was just h it
- 21:33Speaker 1: was fun. It sounds like, at least as a kid,
- 21:37Speaker 1: you didn't take losing well guilty as charged. Yeah I didn't.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I didn't like losing to my dad a lot. You know,
- 21:44Speaker 1: he was he was always you know, he wanted it.
- 21:47Speaker 1: So when I beat him, you know I would know
- 21:49Speaker 1: I actually beat him. So it was no free rides
- 21:52Speaker 1: for sure, So it was it was great. We're talking
- 21:55Speaker 1: to Trey Hendrickson. Did you push your dad's car down
- 21:58Speaker 1: the street as youth? Workouts. Yeah, that was out of
- 22:02Speaker 1: the Yeah that was the old book on my dad's
- 22:04Speaker 1: you know, workouts and stuff. So yeah, he had an
- 22:08Speaker 1: old five o Mustang that he put in neutral and
- 22:11Speaker 1: I had to get behind it and he tapped the
- 22:13Speaker 1: brakes a couple of times, you know, to see. But yeah,
- 22:16Speaker 1: it was just great. You know the environment I was
- 22:19Speaker 1: raised in. My brother was extremely competitive too, So if
- 22:22Speaker 1: it wasn't you know, playing sports, video game something, we
- 22:26Speaker 1: were always competing as a family. So it's it's really special.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So we've talked about your dad a bit, Let's talk
- 22:31Speaker 1: about your mom for a moment because I know you
- 22:33Speaker 1: were at homeschool when you were really young. How tough
- 22:36Speaker 1: was she as a teacher. She was a great teacher,
- 22:38Speaker 1: but she held that accountability of getting your job done.
- 22:41Speaker 1: And she's a strong woman in faith, and I a
- 22:44Speaker 1: lot of that that you hopefully see in me is
- 22:48Speaker 1: from her. And I was, you know, raising a very
- 22:51Speaker 1: good home. So I mean being my mom being my
- 22:53Speaker 1: teacher and showing me how to do things was just
- 22:56Speaker 1: absolutely great. You played high school football at a Popka
- 23:00Speaker 1: High school not far from Orlando. You are defensive Linemen
- 23:03Speaker 1: is a sophomore in a junior and then your senior
- 23:05Speaker 1: year the team needed offense. You played tight end. You're
- 23:09Speaker 1: very successful, seven touchdown catches, State championship team, but when
- 23:13Speaker 1: it came time to go to college, you wanted to
- 23:15Speaker 1: go back to hitting people. Right. Yeah, it's a you know,
- 23:18Speaker 1: it's different environment. Rushing the passer. You know you can
- 23:22Speaker 1: affect the play every time. You know you can make
- 23:24Speaker 1: a tackle assist. You know, on defense you can be
- 23:27Speaker 1: in the play every time. If you're running a route
- 23:29Speaker 1: and the quarterback doesn't even look your way, that's a
- 23:32Speaker 1: completely different game to me. So I wanted to be
- 23:35Speaker 1: a part of something special and play defense, and FA
- 23:39Speaker 1: you gave me an opportunity, and it was a rest
- 23:41Speaker 1: is history is the biggest key to sacking the quarterback.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Physical ability or smarts. At this level, you have to
- 23:49Speaker 1: have more than just physical ability. I feel like everybody's
- 23:53Speaker 1: gifted in some ways. So it's a little bit of
- 23:55Speaker 1: a chess match. So you know, it's you're always setting
- 23:58Speaker 1: it up. I think Dwight Freeney put it best. It's like,
- 24:00Speaker 1: you know, you gotta have three moves that look the same,
- 24:02Speaker 1: So it's it's definitely it comes with some growth and
- 24:07Speaker 1: experience and being around guys like Cam Jordan only helped
- 24:10Speaker 1: me and my journey personally. So we're doing fun facts
- 24:13Speaker 1: with Trey Hendrickson. You attended Florida Atlantic. You set the
- 24:16Speaker 1: school record for sacks. You at a conference USA Defensive
- 24:19Speaker 1: Player of the Year as a senior. What was the
- 24:21Speaker 1: best part of your four years at Florida Atlantic Being
- 24:25Speaker 1: under guys like um, you know, Charlie Partridge, coach Jamison
- 24:30Speaker 1: and coach Rock bell Atoni. Those are guys that you know,
- 24:33Speaker 1: new football told me what to look at and obviously
- 24:36Speaker 1: they were molding me for the next level. So it
- 24:38Speaker 1: wasn't just the next week, you know, if it was
- 24:41Speaker 1: Rice or Middle Tennessee. It was knowing that guys are
- 24:43Speaker 1: gonna be bigger and stronger and getting ready for that.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Tell me about the diet you followed going into your
- 24:50Speaker 1: senior year. Yeah, it was a lot of calories. It
- 24:53Speaker 1: was definitely different focusing on your body. That was another
- 24:56Speaker 1: thing my strength Coach Chuck Loby got me too, is
- 25:00Speaker 1: that you know, that's another element of the game that
- 25:03Speaker 1: you can take advantage of that others might not be.
- 25:05Speaker 1: So that was something that you know, how bad do
- 25:08Speaker 1: you want it? Kind of thing and it's just a
- 25:10Speaker 1: lot of calories, so you know, I had to want it.
- 25:16Speaker 1: We're doing fun Facts with Trey Hendrickson. You are a
- 25:18Speaker 1: third round picked by the Saints in twenty seventeen. Describe
- 25:21Speaker 1: your draft experience getting drafted. I was fortunate and blessed
- 25:27Speaker 1: to be a part of the combine where I got
- 25:28Speaker 1: to see all the competition at the end position and
- 25:32Speaker 1: stuff like that. So I was also blessed to be
- 25:35Speaker 1: in the East West Shrine Game. That gave me an
- 25:37Speaker 1: opportunity to show what I can do on the football
- 25:40Speaker 1: field as well. So going into the draft, I really
- 25:42Speaker 1: didn't know. I never really looked at potential picks and
- 25:46Speaker 1: where I'd want to go because you never know. But
- 25:49Speaker 1: I I can definitely say I didn't know I was
- 25:51Speaker 1: going to New Orleans. So it was it was a
- 25:54Speaker 1: special experience and it was a great place, and it
- 25:57Speaker 1: definitely molded me into the man I am today. You
- 26:00Speaker 1: spent four years in New Orleans, culminating with a tremendous
- 26:03Speaker 1: season individually last year, thirteen and a half sacks tied
- 26:06Speaker 1: for second best in the NFL. What went right? Was
- 26:10Speaker 1: it a matter of staying healthy? Was it the experience
- 26:12Speaker 1: that you had garnered in the NFL. What led to
- 26:14Speaker 1: that huge season, Well, it was my opportunity to start
- 26:19Speaker 1: for the first time in the NFL, So there's a
- 26:22Speaker 1: huge opportunity there. That offseason, I got married to Alisa,
- 26:26Speaker 1: and she was special, and how she helped me off
- 26:29Speaker 1: the field and through faith was a very strong thing.
- 26:32Speaker 1: So I think in Glacian six Night it says in
- 26:35Speaker 1: proper time, you'll reap a harvest. So I have no
- 26:38Speaker 1: doubt that that was my time and my opportunity, and
- 26:41Speaker 1: I took advantage of it, and the rest is history.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I was going to save Alisa for later, but since
- 26:47Speaker 1: you mentioned her, let's get to that. You've accomplished a
- 26:50Speaker 1: lot in life, but I'm not sure you measure up
- 26:52Speaker 1: to your wife. Tell us about her background and her accomplishments. Alisa,
- 26:57Speaker 1: besides being a beautiful woman, she excelled in fencing. She's
- 27:02Speaker 1: a state championship fencer, She's a state championship figure skater.
- 27:06Speaker 1: She's impressive academically, she's finishing up her doctorate in pharmacy
- 27:11Speaker 1: up up in Nashville, and it's uh, you know, she's
- 27:15Speaker 1: just tremendous and what she does in discipline and the
- 27:18Speaker 1: way she was raised, and you know, like I was
- 27:21Speaker 1: going back and saying, how bad you want it. It's
- 27:24Speaker 1: not something that you can just punch a clock and
- 27:26Speaker 1: be here. It's off the field too, and she helped
- 27:29Speaker 1: align me with that. And but she's done it herself
- 27:32Speaker 1: her whole life, being an athlete herself, and obviously I
- 27:35Speaker 1: don't want to fence her. So she's great. I know
- 27:39Speaker 1: the US had a gold medalist in fencing in the
- 27:41Speaker 1: Olympics this year. I think that was the first time.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Did you follow that at all because of her background?
- 27:46Speaker 1: Did it? Oh? Yeah, We watched the tournament and it
- 27:48Speaker 1: was anytime the United States is going for a medal,
- 27:52Speaker 1: but being fencing and we haven't done it before was
- 27:55Speaker 1: something special and that was something that we were glad
- 27:58Speaker 1: to watch. So he became a free agent this past
- 28:01Speaker 1: off season, and some players, understandably, they want to go
- 28:04Speaker 1: to a team that was on the brink of going
- 28:06Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl the year before, maybe even went.
- 28:09Speaker 1: You seem to take the opposite approach, where you wanted
- 28:11Speaker 1: to be part of a franchise that needed somebody like
- 28:15Speaker 1: you to help in the rebuild. Well, I love to
- 28:18Speaker 1: win and in New Orleans, I learned how to win
- 28:22Speaker 1: and a lot of things that you can see from there.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I saw here they're just a couple pieces away. And
- 28:30Speaker 1: in cincinnati's special because of the culture they've had and
- 28:33Speaker 1: all the things that they and they've been so close
- 28:36Speaker 1: in the past, you know, but something like they haven't
- 28:39Speaker 1: won a playoff game since the nineteen ninety you know,
- 28:42Speaker 1: those are the things that kind of get me fired up.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Because if you're a piece that makes this culture change,
- 28:47Speaker 1: that's truly special and I feel a strong calling to be,
- 28:52Speaker 1: you know, a part of something special like that. And
- 28:54Speaker 1: that's why I was a no brainer to bring my
- 28:56Speaker 1: family to Cincinnati. All Right, a few wildcard category worries
- 29:00Speaker 1: to wrap things up. Do you have a hidden talent?
- 29:04Speaker 1: Hidden talent? I'm not too sure. I can't sing, and
- 29:09Speaker 1: you know, there's not a lot a lot of craziness,
- 29:11Speaker 1: but not really. I'll have to check with Alisa on
- 29:15Speaker 1: that one. Maybe she'll know what your hidden talent is.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Is there anything you like to splurge on? My wife
- 29:21Speaker 1: and I can get into a little bit of a
- 29:23Speaker 1: movie rut where we're just watching movie after a movie
- 29:26Speaker 1: and rewatching things. So I think I splured John watching
- 29:29Speaker 1: movies here and there. All Right, this is always a
- 29:32Speaker 1: tough one. If you could meet anybody in history, athlete, statesman, actor,
- 29:37Speaker 1: or whatever it might be, who would that person be.
- 29:41Speaker 1: You know, I've always had a I would like to
- 29:43Speaker 1: meet Muhammad Ali to know kind of how how he
- 29:47Speaker 1: mentally got after his opponents and also physically. I feel
- 29:50Speaker 1: like he was truly special in the boxing ring, and
- 29:55Speaker 1: I'd love to have a conversation with him. I'm right
- 29:57Speaker 1: there with you. Muhammad Ali would be very high on
- 29:59Speaker 1: my you are off the hot seat. I appreciate your time.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Best of luck this season. Yes, sir, thanks for having
- 30:05Speaker 1: That's going to do it for this episode of the
