- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Let's Talk with Carl Lee.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Let's Talk is proudly presented by attorney Frank Walker. Real talk,
- 0:29Speaker 2: real experience, real results. FrankWalkerLaw.com. Let the conversation begin on
- 0:35Speaker 2: Let's Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, this is Carl Lee, and
- 0:39Speaker 3: I have in the building the queen, Lisa Odie, and
- 0:44Speaker 3: Hollis Lewis. Hello, hello. I'm going to break the ice
- 0:50Speaker 3: just for— I don't know really what the reason is.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I don't like this at all.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Whatever the reason might justifiably be. I'll talk to the boss. So, Matt,
- 1:08Speaker 3: I've never really liked the Cowboys. I've never really ever
- 1:14Speaker 3: had any kind of good feeling about the Cowboys. They
- 1:17Speaker 3: just were one of those teams that I just really
- 1:21Speaker 3: chose to dislike.
- 1:23Speaker 5: That seems like a good way to feel about the Cowboys.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Well, okay.
- 1:26Speaker 6: Not a bad plan.
- 1:29Speaker 4: But I have, for some odd reason, I am so
- 1:34Speaker 4: proud of them.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Oh, no.
- 1:38Speaker 6: What?
- 1:38Speaker 3: I'm so proud of them because who did they play this?
- 1:42Speaker 4: Who did they just play?
- 1:43Speaker 5: Who did they lose to?
- 1:44Speaker 6: You mean who did they lose to last night?
- 1:46Speaker 4: Did they not win?
- 1:47Speaker 1: No.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:48Speaker 6: Yeah, see?
- 1:50Speaker 7: You went down that road. You went down that path,
- 1:52Speaker 7: and it just shut down. The Packers won at Lambeau.
- 1:56Speaker 4: I still don't like them.
- 1:58Speaker 5: That score must have just flipped.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I still don't like them.
- 2:01Speaker 5: He's dreaming.
- 2:02Speaker 4: And you know what?
- 2:04Speaker 5: Got hit one too many times and I can't read
- 2:06Speaker 5: the score. Box score makes no sense.
- 2:10Speaker 4: And because they lost.
- 2:13Speaker 6: Shame.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Shame.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Because they lost and the Packers won. Packer gear and
- 2:19Speaker 3: Packer fans are really no longer part of the show.
- 2:22Speaker 4: You know what?
- 2:22Speaker 6: I'm wearing the next show. I'm bringing it all.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Yeah, the cheese head.
- 2:27Speaker 6: I'm bringing it all in.
- 2:28Speaker 4: I'm telling you.
- 2:29Speaker 7: My Micah Parsons shirt, my cheese head, all the fixings.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Get ready.
- 2:34Speaker 4: Okay, I want to go back. I want to go back.
- 2:36Speaker 4: This is totally off script.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Yes, it is.
- 2:40Speaker 3: So what really ever made you, like, Choose them.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Like, when did you choose them? How long ago? I mean, like, what?
- 2:48Speaker 7: I mean, I was like 12 years old, and I just,
- 2:52Speaker 7: I loved the Green Bay Packers.
- 2:53Speaker 4: Why?
- 2:54Speaker 6: I liked Lambeau.
- 2:56Speaker 7: I liked the fact that there was not one single
- 2:58Speaker 7: owner of that team. I am a team, I'm an owner.
- 3:03Speaker 7: I own a share of the Packers stock. I like
- 3:05Speaker 7: that idea. I like the fact that Lambeau is not
- 3:08Speaker 7: Jerry's world. It's set in a city about the size
- 3:12Speaker 7: of Charleston, West Virginia. It's just the whole, I don't know,
- 3:17Speaker 7: the whole history of it. There's history behind the pack.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Are you literally an owner?
- 3:22Speaker 6: Yes, I own a share.
- 3:24Speaker 4: You do? Yeah.
- 3:25Speaker 6: Yeah, I bought a share.
- 3:26Speaker 4: They offered that.
- 3:27Speaker 7: People think that you can just buy shares anytime you want,
- 3:30Speaker 7: and that's not true. What happened was when they have
- 3:32Speaker 7: to do some type of upgrade to the field or
- 3:34Speaker 7: the stadium— They sell shares of stock.
- 3:37Speaker 5: That's cool.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Like, when did you get that?
- 3:38Speaker 5: Oh, gosh.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Probably been about 10 years ago. Wow.
- 3:42Speaker 7: They were doing something to the actual boxes. They were
- 3:45Speaker 7: building some new boxes up there at Lambeau.
- 3:47Speaker 3: So, how does that go? They just, like, put it
- 3:50Speaker 3: out there? Like, hey, who wants to buy? That's pretty cool.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 7: At the time, I think I paid, like, I don't know,
- 3:56Speaker 7: $ 150 a share. I'm sure it's more, way more now.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Uh-huh.
- 4:00Speaker 4: So, yeah. That's awesome, man. I remember when that took place, too. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 7: Because when I did the tour of Lambeau, and then
- 4:05Speaker 7: we're going to talk sports. Nobody wants to hear this.
- 4:08Speaker 7: But when I did the tour of Lambeau, when I
- 4:10Speaker 7: went to Lambeau Field a few moons ago, they asked,
- 4:13Speaker 7: do we have any owners on the tour? And I
- 4:16Speaker 7: raised my hand. There was like two or three of
- 4:17Speaker 7: us out of like 20. Because not, you know, like
- 4:20Speaker 7: I said, you have to, it has to be a
- 4:22Speaker 7: special time to be able to purchase something.
- 4:25Speaker 6: The stock.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Now, if you're a shareholder, do you get like any special,
- 4:28Speaker 3: like not, not just to get tickets or anything, but
- 4:30Speaker 3: do you get like, Hey, you can get, What do
- 4:32Speaker 3: you get?
- 4:32Speaker 6: I get like an invitation.
- 4:33Speaker 7: They do like a meeting of other shareholders in July
- 4:37Speaker 7: at Lambeau, and I get an invite to that.
- 4:39Speaker 6: I never go, but yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 4: That's awesome. I mean, that's pretty cool.
- 4:42Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll bring it in. Wait, wait.
- 4:44Speaker 7: Matt Murphy, I'm going to bring in my actual framed.
- 4:48Speaker 6: Stock next week. So I want you to see it, Carl.
- 4:50Speaker 6: Don't mess with an owner in the package.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Do you think more teams should do that, right?
- 4:55Speaker 3: I think so.
- 4:56Speaker 4: They're the only one. Yeah, they are the only one.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
- 5:00Speaker 5: I think they're trying to put that away. I don't
- 5:02Speaker 5: think they want other teams.
- 5:03Speaker 6: No, they don't.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think the, and I'll say this
- 5:07Speaker 3: for sure, the old school owners really were not interested
- 5:11Speaker 3: in anything like that.
- 5:12Speaker 5: No.
- 5:12Speaker 4: At all.
- 5:13Speaker 6: No.
- 5:14Speaker 4: I mean, they didn't want to share nothing.
- 5:16Speaker 3: But I think that, like, if you look at, like,
- 5:18Speaker 3: what's happening in Chicago and it's like all the tax
- 5:20Speaker 3: bonds and the tax issues that, why they may move
- 5:23Speaker 3: out of the city, this, I.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Think this would be cool.
- 5:26Speaker 6: I mean, you know what I'm saying?
- 5:27Speaker 4: Just let the people have it.
- 5:28Speaker 3: And just like, if you want to, upgrade if you
- 5:30Speaker 3: want to buy this or buy that, then divvy out stocks.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I like this.
- 5:36Speaker 5: The other thing they do, I mean, we might as
- 5:37Speaker 5: well pile it on here. Let's go.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Let's go, Matt. Help me out here.
- 5:40Speaker 5: If you live in Brown County, where Green Bay is located,
- 5:44Speaker 5: every year they do a lottery for all the county
- 5:47Speaker 5: residents to get tickets. And so it averages out to
- 5:50Speaker 5: like once maybe every season or every other season that
- 5:53Speaker 5: you can get a lottery spot to get a pair
- 5:56Speaker 5: of tickets and go to a game.
- 5:58Speaker 4: I like that.
- 5:59Speaker 3: And I do think that there's a lot of teams
- 6:01Speaker 3: that do different types of things.
- 6:04Speaker 4: And, unfortunately, I don't know of any of those through Minnesota.
- 6:08Speaker 6: I don't think they're actual team owners.
- 6:10Speaker 7: Like, they may, like, do, like, you know, put your
- 6:13Speaker 7: name on a brick in the wall of, you know,
- 6:15Speaker 7: whatever they're building or something like that. But, I mean,
- 6:17Speaker 7: we're actually owners. So, I think that's kind of cool.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Yeah, you get to say– you get to say– Except,
- 6:23Speaker 4: you know, the team's horrible. You are an owner.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you're an owner of.
- 6:27Speaker 6: A horrible team. So, stand down over there.
- 6:29Speaker 4: You're a horrible team.
- 6:30Speaker 6: Oh, my goodness.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:32Speaker 6: We'll see when the Vikings roll in. We'll see what happens.
- 6:34Speaker 4: But right now, the Vikings are what? What are we?
- 6:37Speaker 2: What?
- 6:37Speaker 4: I mean, I don't remember.
- 6:38Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 6:39Speaker 6: They're undefeated.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Huh?
- 6:41Speaker 6: I said it. I almost choked when I said it. But, yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Un-what?
- 6:45Speaker 6: Un-lost.
- 6:47Speaker 5: I don't know how to read those numbers.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Un-lost.
- 6:49Speaker 6: They haven't lost a game.
- 6:51Speaker 5: I don't know if the zero means they haven't won
- 6:53Speaker 5: or if they haven't lost. I don't know.
- 6:55Speaker 6: You could easily flip those numbers when it comes to
- 6:57Speaker 6: the Vikings, right?
- 6:58Speaker 4: Can't read it.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I would think, Matt, that you should be balanced between us.
- 7:04Speaker 3: You seem like you're leaning over there to the Packers
- 7:06Speaker 3: is what it seems like.
- 7:08Speaker 5: Listen, I've been a Packers fan.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh. Steve?
- 7:12Speaker 5: We're all going to be in the unemployment line. My
- 7:16Speaker 5: family's from Milwaukee, so I rooted for the Packers back
- 7:21Speaker 5: in Sterling's day. I grew up as a kid watching
- 7:23Speaker 5: Sterling Sharp on TV.
- 7:24Speaker 6: I saw Sterling, yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 4: I need to just stop coming because I can't fire him.
- 7:31Speaker 6: Oh, my God.
- 7:31Speaker 4: What I do is not that hard. You can do this.
- 7:34Speaker 6: Oh, my goodness. Let's do a show.
- 7:36Speaker 4: I mean, we might as well stay NFL. Okay. Just quickly.
- 7:40Speaker 4: I mean, there's a lot of stories going around.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 4: So the Browns are four and two.
- 7:45Speaker 6: That's another thing.
- 7:46Speaker 3: And I told you guys earlier, if you can remember.
- 7:49Speaker 3: I did say that Deshaun Watson was going to be
- 7:52Speaker 3: good this year. And he's been a pretty good starting quarterback.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Not a pro bowler, not nothing out of the world,
- 7:59Speaker 3: but he's pinned his team in a position to win games.
- 8:01Speaker 3: So the question I have, if they, again, they're leading
- 8:05Speaker 3: the AFC North. If they continue this, they win the
- 8:10Speaker 3: AFC North, they get a first-round buy. Do the Browns
- 8:16Speaker 3: keep him beyond the end of the contract?
- 8:19Speaker 4: Do they just.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Roll with it? Or do they start to figure out?
- 8:23Speaker 3: Because it doesn't look like they love Shador Sanders. I
- 8:25Speaker 3: don't imagine he'll be there much longer. Not because of him,
- 8:28Speaker 3: but just, you know, whatever. But do they keep Deshaun
- 8:31Speaker 3: Watson in spite of everything that's happened in the past? Me?
- 8:37Speaker 3: I think you have to. You have to keep him?
- 8:39Speaker 3: I think you have to. You have to keep him
- 8:40Speaker 3: beyond when the contract ends?
- 8:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:43Speaker 4: So does that mean an extension?
- 8:45Speaker 3: I think that you need to start talking about it now,
- 8:48Speaker 3: and let's see if we can get you signed now.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Go ahead and sign him now? Yes, sir. Let's sign
- 8:53Speaker 4: you to an extension right now. Okay. What do you, Lisa?
- 8:57Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know.
- 8:58Speaker 7: I mean, I think Deshaun Watson, I mean, he's– This
- 9:01Speaker 7: is my take on Deshaun Watson. He struggles most of
- 9:05Speaker 7: the game, okay? But then he finds a way to win.
- 9:09Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying? This is the fourth game
- 9:13Speaker 7: that he's had the winning drive at the end of
- 9:14Speaker 7: the game. His tape, if you watch his tape up
- 9:17Speaker 7: until that point to the fourth quarter, it's not the greatest.
- 9:20Speaker 6: But he's a leader.
- 9:22Speaker 7: He's taking the Browns somewhere they haven't been for a long,
- 9:25Speaker 7: long time.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Long time.
- 9:26Speaker 6: Long time.
- 9:28Speaker 7: And I'm kind of with Carl on this one. I mean,
- 9:30Speaker 7: I think you start pursuing that extension of a contract.
- 9:33Speaker 4: But I guess, okay, how do you sell this to
- 9:36Speaker 4: the fans? Oh, I think it's easy.
- 9:38Speaker 3: But let me, here's, again, this is one of the
- 9:42Speaker 3: major things that I think is a problem when we start,
- 9:46Speaker 3: evaluating players I think it has a lot to do
- 9:50Speaker 3: with with some of the schemes you know Hollis you
- 9:54Speaker 3: know there's a there's a system that would work perfect
- 9:57Speaker 3: for you as a quarterback but if you don't get
- 10:00Speaker 3: that system, now you have to kind of try to
- 10:03Speaker 3: adapt to. And see, and I'm thinking he's now in
- 10:07Speaker 3: a system that he can work in.
- 10:11Speaker 4: I think now there's a future in Hollis. For him
- 10:15Speaker 4: and some success for the team. Okay. I mean, that's true.
- 10:21Speaker 3: And I think it's always up to the coaches to
- 10:23Speaker 3: have to pick the player in the best position, right?
- 10:25Speaker 3: But I would say, too, is like if we're just
- 10:27Speaker 3: talking the business side of it and the money, because
- 10:30Speaker 3: obviously you can't pay him what you just paid him.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Oh, no, no, no, no. Yeah, that's an issue.
- 10:35Speaker 3: So when you talk about extension, and if we're going
- 10:38Speaker 3: to introduce that earlier before the contract ends, How do
- 10:42Speaker 3: you have those talks? Because, dude, I can't pay you
- 10:44Speaker 3: what I paid you. Now, and I don't imagine that
- 10:48Speaker 3: any other team is going to pay you. Them days
- 10:50Speaker 3: is gone. You done got your meat and potatoes. You
- 10:53Speaker 3: done probably got the biggest contract you ever seen. You
- 10:55Speaker 3: ain't getting nothing else moving forward. But at the same time,
- 10:59Speaker 3: we've seen in the NFL, there's just a lack of
- 11:02Speaker 3: good quarterbacks. Yes.
- 11:04Speaker 4: I mean, there's probably 10 dudes out there, 12 maybe. OK,
- 11:07Speaker 4: let me. So what do you do on that end?
- 11:10Speaker 4: What you doing a business? OK, well, here's OK. Here's
- 11:13Speaker 4: here's my problem with that. I question.
- 11:19Speaker 3: The system in its itself of. So if I put
- 11:24Speaker 3: you in a system that's not good for you because
- 11:27Speaker 3: it's what I know and it's what I want to
- 11:29Speaker 3: do because I'm the coach or I'm the old coordinator, right?
- 11:31Speaker 3: I want to do this system, so I'm going to
- 11:33Speaker 3: put you in it, and I expect you to adapt
- 11:36Speaker 3: to it, and maybe it's not something that makes you
- 11:39Speaker 3: the best player that you can be.
- 11:42Speaker 4: And I think currently now in the.
- 11:44Speaker 3: NFL, I think the structures of offensive coordinators, head coaches–
- 11:51Speaker 3: They have these systems in their mind. They're not looking
- 11:55Speaker 3: at you and saying what you can do. They're looking
- 11:57Speaker 3: at you and trying to make you fit something that
- 12:03Speaker 3: they're creating. And I don't think that that's the right way.
- 12:06Speaker 4: It's definitely not the right way.
- 12:07Speaker 1: No.
- 12:07Speaker 4: I would agree with you there. Because, again, I'm a
- 12:10Speaker 4: product of it.
- 12:13Speaker 3: I couldn't play zone at the pro level.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I couldn't play it.
- 12:19Speaker 3: And in the first three years that we were trying
- 12:22Speaker 3: to do it, I ended up being a safety at
- 12:27Speaker 3: one point in time and really wasn't big enough to
- 12:30Speaker 3: be a safety to make all those tackles that you're
- 12:32Speaker 3: going to end up making. If there's not a change
- 12:36Speaker 3: that comes in and says, okay, now we're going to
- 12:38Speaker 3: play a bump and run.
- 12:39Speaker 4: And I'm like thinking, well, okay, well, wait a minute.
- 12:41Speaker 4: What is that? Okay, well, let me see. Oh, well,
- 12:43Speaker 4: wait a minute. I think I can do this.
- 12:45Speaker 5: Right.
- 12:46Speaker 4: I think it's all about what you can and can't do.
- 12:49Speaker 3: And I don't think that today's coaches.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Today, because Hollis has that big name as a head
- 12:58Speaker 3: coach and has won these championships, he's not going to
- 13:02Speaker 3: come to the team and change anything. He's going to
- 13:05Speaker 3: make us do exactly what he thinks. But maybe I
- 13:09Speaker 3: can't do it. But I think that's the difference between,
- 13:14Speaker 3: you know, if you look at the NFL is different
- 13:17Speaker 3: in that depending on the power you have as the
- 13:21Speaker 3: head coach, you can Get the guys, or at least
- 13:24Speaker 3: you can sort of pick the groceries, as Bill Parcells said,
- 13:28Speaker 3: to fit your system. But outside of that, if you
- 13:31Speaker 3: are a top-level coach, then you're going to make the
- 13:33Speaker 3: adjustments necessary. And we've seen that, like, what's going on with, like,
- 13:37Speaker 3: you know, some of the college programs. But my question,
- 13:39Speaker 3: you just answered your own question. But my question was,
- 13:44Speaker 3: if you're the Browns and you're talking money, How do
- 13:49Speaker 3: you navigate that?
- 13:51Speaker 4: Because you can't pay him what you just paid.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Right.
- 13:55Speaker 3: But you got to pay him something because there's not
- 13:57Speaker 3: enough good quarterbacks in the league.
- 13:58Speaker 4: So what do you do?
- 13:59Speaker 7: I mean, I think they just need to be honest
- 14:01Speaker 7: with him, right? I mean, just tell him, look, this
- 14:03Speaker 7: is what the franchise can afford. We want to keep you.
- 14:06Speaker 7: We're impressed with what you're doing with our team this year.
- 14:09Speaker 7: You know, this is the first time since 2014. Since
- 14:10Speaker 7: they've been 4-2?
- 14:11Speaker 4: It's been that long. Since 2014.
- 14:12Speaker 6: Since they've been at the top. That's like 12 years ago.
- 14:18Speaker 4: That's a long time.
- 14:19Speaker 6: That's a long time.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Wow.
- 14:20Speaker 7: But they, you know, and it depends on how deep
- 14:23Speaker 7: the cut is. Like, is it, you know, half of
- 14:25Speaker 7: what he's making or is it just a 25% cut?
- 14:29Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know what they can afford up there.
- 14:31Speaker 4: I don't buy it.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I don't buy the idea that you can't pay me.
- 14:37Speaker 4: But we can't pay you what you, like that historic contract?
- 14:40Speaker 4: What was the number? It was like hundreds of millions
- 14:42Speaker 4: of dollars.
- 14:43Speaker 6: I don't remember, but it was crazy. And he didn't play.
- 14:45Speaker 4: And he didn't play for most of it.
- 14:46Speaker 6: Yeah, so to me, there's a justification.
- 14:48Speaker 4: Earn your pay. Here's the thing.
- 14:53Speaker 3: I earned my play already. That's why you're paying me.
- 14:57Speaker 3: That's why you paid me. That's fair. So now, because
- 15:00Speaker 3: I got hurt, is there something that you said in
- 15:02Speaker 3: the contract that if I get hurt, that there's something?
- 15:05Speaker 5: No, no, no.
- 15:06Speaker 4: I just mean like moving forward, like for the new contract.
- 15:10Speaker 4: You got to pay. You got to pay. You got
- 15:11Speaker 4: to pay.
- 15:12Speaker 6: The same amount is what you're saying.
- 15:13Speaker 2: No.
- 15:14Speaker 4: No. That you got to pay.
- 15:16Speaker 3: If you pay me $ 10 and that's a huge deal
- 15:19Speaker 3: and that was for the first contract, now my contract's
- 15:23Speaker 3: up again.
- 15:23Speaker 4: You want more? Absolutely.
- 15:27Speaker 3: And I don't want 11. But in spite of everything. Now,
- 15:33Speaker 3: here's what you can do. Here's how I'll help you, Hollis.
- 15:37Speaker 4: You the GM. Here's what you can do.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I'll take exactly what I got now with In X
- 15:46Speaker 3: number of years, you pay me this because you owe
- 15:51Speaker 3: me that. So that way I can help you sign
- 15:54Speaker 3: everybody else, but I'm going to get what I'm due.
- 15:59Speaker 7: I think now that you said it that way, Hollis,
- 16:02Speaker 7: I mean, now that I'm going to rethink what I said,
- 16:04Speaker 7: I believe that you probably don't pursue the extension until
- 16:09Speaker 7: you see what happens the rest of the season.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Yeah, you got, yeah.
- 16:13Speaker 6: You know what I mean? Like, you know, right now,
- 16:15Speaker 6: who knows?
- 16:16Speaker 7: I mean, it could be the fact that they're a
- 16:17Speaker 7: really good team.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Yeah, what happens if they all of a sudden are
- 16:21Speaker 4: a great team? Collapse, right. No, what if they do great, though?
- 16:23Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Now you've really got a problem.
- 16:27Speaker 6: No, not really. Not really.
- 16:28Speaker 5: I mean.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Because you're about halfway through now.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:32Speaker 4: He signed in 2022.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Five years, $ 230 million fully guaranteed. Yes, you're talking about
- 16:41Speaker 5: $ 46 million every year.
- 16:43Speaker 4: You ain't getting that no more.
- 16:44Speaker 5: No.
- 16:45Speaker 4: We can't give you that, bro.
- 16:46Speaker 6: We can't give you $ 40 million.
- 16:47Speaker 5: My question, though, what happens if they get to December...
- 16:52Speaker 5: Things are looking good, and they get into the playoffs.
- 16:54Speaker 5: I mean, what if they wind up in the Super
- 16:56Speaker 5: Bowl somehow? Dude, that would be nuts. Do you think
- 17:00Speaker 5: that would change the game on the contract, though?
- 17:02Speaker 4: It'd have to, right?
- 17:03Speaker 3: Look, if I took you to the playoffs, I don't
- 17:07Speaker 3: care what y'all paid me yesterday. We going to talk
- 17:11Speaker 3: about because when's the last time y'all been here? When's
- 17:14Speaker 3: the last time the Browns have been in the playoffs?
- 17:17Speaker 3: Can we look that up?
- 17:18Speaker 4: Look, I was a kid. I was a kid. I
- 17:20Speaker 4: had to be a kid. I was a kid.
- 17:21Speaker 6: That was a minute ago. But, I mean, here's a
- 17:25Speaker 6: valid point, guys.
- 17:26Speaker 7: Is it because, because I said, you know, at the
- 17:29Speaker 7: beginning of this whole conversation that he doesn't look that
- 17:32Speaker 7: great the whole game.
- 17:34Speaker 6: He just finds a way to win games.
- 17:36Speaker 7: He's got a lot of bad tape along with the good,
- 17:39Speaker 7: which the good is the last few minutes that he
- 17:40Speaker 7: pulls out a win.
- 17:41Speaker 3: I think it's true, but I think the caveat to
- 17:45Speaker 3: that is that it's the Browns. And when was the
- 17:48Speaker 3: last time they had a decent quarterback who was doing
- 17:50Speaker 3: any of this?
- 17:51Speaker 6: Well, that's true, too.
- 17:52Speaker 4: So I think that's the caveat, right?
- 17:53Speaker 6: Are they that good, or is it just the AFC
- 17:55Speaker 6: North is that bad? But it's the Browns.
- 17:58Speaker 4: But see— The.
- 18:00Speaker 7: Stars must be aligned in some weird way, because you're right.
- 18:04Speaker 6: It is the Browns. It's the Browns.
- 18:06Speaker 3: While you all are saying, okay— To your point, Lisa,
- 18:10Speaker 3: is it that bad?
- 18:12Speaker 4: Is the conference that bad?
- 18:13Speaker 6: I mean, I love it. I don't mind the Browns.
- 18:16Speaker 6: I like to see them do well.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Me as the player, I ain't got nothing to do
- 18:19Speaker 3: with that. I ain't got nothing to do with that.
- 18:22Speaker 3: All I'm trying to show you all is look at
- 18:25Speaker 3: my numbers. Okay, when was the last time they've been
- 18:27Speaker 3: to the playoffs?
- 18:28Speaker 5: So they made the wild card round a couple of
- 18:30Speaker 5: times recently, 2023 and then again back in 2020.
- 18:35Speaker 6: I wonder when they won their division, though. I mean,
- 18:37Speaker 6: that's probably not.
- 18:40Speaker 4: That might not be there.
- 18:40Speaker 6: That may not even have ever happened.
- 18:42Speaker 4: I'm going back to Leroy Kelly and all that.
- 18:46Speaker 3: So just to move.
- 18:51Speaker 7: 1989.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Dang.
- 18:51Speaker 6: Is that when they last won the division?
- 18:55Speaker 5: 1989.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Carl was in the league.
- 18:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Wow.
- 18:58Speaker 3: So what I'm saying is that if you make the playoffs,
- 19:03Speaker 3: potentially get a first-round buy, and win the division, you
- 19:06Speaker 3: don't want the Super Bowl as far as the Cleveland Browns.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Exactly. That's the Super Bowl. Yes, that's the Super Bowl.
- 19:11Speaker 4: And if you got to the Super Bowl.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Yeah, we might be talking about that 46 million.
- 19:17Speaker 7: I don't even know how that franchise afforded that in
- 19:19Speaker 7: the first place. How did they afford that? I mean,
- 19:22Speaker 7: Cleveland Browns are not that affluent.
- 19:25Speaker 4: But there's a ton of Browns.
- 19:26Speaker 6: It's not Jerry's world.
- 19:27Speaker 3: There's Brown fans, though, that will support them, do or die.
- 19:32Speaker 6: That's true.
- 19:32Speaker 3: All right, more NFL. I guess we'll ask now. What
- 19:37Speaker 3: are your thoughts on international games?
- 19:40Speaker 4: Should the league.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Is it a health risk for the players? Is it
- 19:45Speaker 4: good for the league? Should we be playing those games
- 19:48Speaker 4: as a former player? I played three. All right. And–
- 19:55Speaker 4: So this has been going on for a while. Yes. Okay,
- 19:57Speaker 4: got it.
- 19:58Speaker 3: But ours were.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Scrimmages.
- 20:01Speaker 3: They weren't– or preseason games.
- 20:03Speaker 4: They weren't regular games. Okay, got it, got it.
- 20:06Speaker 3: And again, we know the foundation of why this is
- 20:09Speaker 3: happening is money.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Of course. So we understand that.
- 20:13Speaker 6: Everything happens because of money.
- 20:15Speaker 3: The worst thing about the trips is the flight going,
- 20:18Speaker 3: the flight coming back.
- 20:19Speaker 5: Okay?
- 20:20Speaker 3: Because it's like forever. It's not like going flying to
- 20:23Speaker 3: California or whatever. You're going anywhere across the country.
- 20:27Speaker 6: You're going into like differences of days sometimes.
- 20:30Speaker 4: Yeah. And so that's part of it. Then when you
- 20:34Speaker 4: get there.
- 20:36Speaker 3: managing where you can go, where you can't go, where
- 20:42Speaker 3: to eat.
- 20:44Speaker 4: You don't know anything.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Everywhere else you've gone, if I go to the Packers,
- 20:48Speaker 3: if we're going to Green Bay, I know somewhere that
- 20:50Speaker 3: we're going to go hang out, we're going to go
- 20:52Speaker 3: do something. But in those places, you have nothing. But
- 20:55Speaker 3: you know what's going to happen? They're going to go.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Those guys, I mean, you're going to go out into
- 21:00Speaker 3: those places. But is it good for the league, though?
- 21:03Speaker 3: I don't think it can be good for the league
- 21:04Speaker 3: because of the potential of what happens with the players.
- 21:08Speaker 3: And the reason why, when you say the league, the
- 21:11Speaker 3: league is not going to do anything until something crazy happens, unfortunately,
- 21:16Speaker 3: with a player. He's going to do something or something's
- 21:19Speaker 3: going to happen. God forbid anything would happen to players
- 21:23Speaker 3: hanging out after practice or whatever. God forbid if something
- 21:29Speaker 3: were to happen in times like this, I ain't trying
- 21:33Speaker 3: to go nowhere. What do you think, Lisa, like far
- 21:36Speaker 3: just like the game play? stuff that you saw as
- 21:39Speaker 3: far as, like, watching those games? Is it just something
- 21:42Speaker 3: that the league needs to continue to do, or maybe
- 21:44Speaker 3: you scale back?
- 21:45Speaker 7: I mean, I think they're even talking about increasing the
- 21:48Speaker 7: NFL games.
- 21:49Speaker 4: Yes, they are.
- 21:51Speaker 6: I'm not a big fan of it.
- 21:52Speaker 7: I don't like watching, you know, for myself, just being,
- 21:55Speaker 7: you know, my selfish perspective, I don't like watching NFL
- 21:58Speaker 7: football at 1030 on Sunday morning or whatever time it
- 22:00Speaker 7: comes on, you know. I mean, it's just the whole
- 22:03Speaker 7: vibe of that. I hate it when my team plays
- 22:06Speaker 7: on a Sunday.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Morning international games. And when you watch it, does it
- 22:09Speaker 3: make you any difference? Like when you're watching the game,
- 22:12Speaker 3: you know, like you said, you're watching your team. Does
- 22:15Speaker 3: it make any difference to you where they're playing? You're
- 22:17Speaker 3: just watching the team. I mean, it kind of does
- 22:20Speaker 3: because those teams are losing a home game too.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Oh, well, yeah. You know what I mean? So you're losing.
- 22:25Speaker 3: So if you're like an owner or you are a
- 22:29Speaker 3: season ticket holder.
- 22:30Speaker 4: That's one less game you get to have.
- 22:32Speaker 7: I wonder if they have some type of deal, though,
- 22:34Speaker 7: where they split. I mean, I'm sure they get compensated
- 22:37Speaker 7: in some way when their teams go overseas like that.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Yeah, they're paid.
- 22:42Speaker 6: But not as much as a home game. There's no way.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:45Speaker 6: When you think about, you know, all the merch and
- 22:46Speaker 6: all the stuff.
- 22:47Speaker 4: Well, let's just say this.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Even if they do, I'll say the merch, they'll probably
- 22:51Speaker 3: sell more there than they probably would.
- 22:53Speaker 6: Maybe.
- 22:54Speaker 4: At home. Good point.
- 22:56Speaker 6: But.
- 22:59Speaker 3: I'm not... I'm missing a game. As a fan, I'm
- 23:04Speaker 3: missing a home game. Yeah. And I got to sit
- 23:07Speaker 3: at home watching it on television at a crazy time.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Am I going to do it? Yes. Do I like it? No.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Season ticket holders, what do you do? I think it's
- 23:17Speaker 4: just too much. I think it's a novelty.
- 23:19Speaker 3: And again, I think it's good for the global expansion
- 23:26Speaker 3: of the game.
- 23:27Speaker 4: But I think football is a different beast. It's not
- 23:29Speaker 4: like basketball.
- 23:31Speaker 3: You don't have like the, you know, basketball globally was
- 23:34Speaker 3: expanded through the Olympics and the dream team of Michael
- 23:36Speaker 3: Jordan and those guys. But I think football is such
- 23:39Speaker 3: a different beast that to me, the better like methodologies
- 23:43Speaker 3: always starting from the ground up. So maybe you go
- 23:45Speaker 3: play a game over there, but like what's after that?
- 23:47Speaker 3: So you got to get like little league programs and
- 23:49Speaker 3: you got to start building the programs that if you
- 23:51Speaker 3: want those countries to like really be serious about football.
- 23:54Speaker 3: So it has to start from like, the ground up.
- 23:56Speaker 3: So it's just one of them things. And to your point,
- 23:59Speaker 3: player safety, health concerns, you know, sleep and all that other.
- 24:03Speaker 4: Stuff that goes into it. And what's the goal? What's
- 24:06Speaker 4: the actual goal? Expand.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:09Speaker 4: So, okay, expand.
- 24:10Speaker 3: But what you, okay, so expansion to me is, okay,
- 24:14Speaker 3: so we're going to, we're going to put a team together.
- 24:17Speaker 4: We're going to name a team and we're going to be, no, no, no, no, not, not, not,
- 24:20Speaker 4: not literally.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I'm talking about expanding like the popularity game, stuff like that.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Then, then put it, put it on TV. Well, you
- 24:28Speaker 4: know what?
- 24:29Speaker 7: I mean, that's a good point, but think about the viewership. I, I,
- 24:33Speaker 7: I do not watch those Sunday morning international games unless
- 24:36Speaker 7: my team's involved.
- 24:37Speaker 6: I'll be honest.
- 24:38Speaker 7: And so, you know, if it's like, let's say, you know,
- 24:40Speaker 7: the Raiders versus Cowboys or whatever, and it's a one
- 24:44Speaker 7: o'clock game and I just happen to be, you know,
- 24:46Speaker 7: hanging out, I might watch it. But if it's on
- 24:49Speaker 7: in the morning, you know, I'm doing, I'm not going
- 24:51Speaker 7: to watch, I'm not going to make the effort, put
- 24:53Speaker 7: it that way. And most viewers are probably like that.
- 24:55Speaker 7: So do you think the major networks like this?
- 24:59Speaker 3: Again, I think you're going to watch it if you're
- 25:01Speaker 3: a fan of the team and then it, I think
- 25:03Speaker 3: the purpose for them is just to, you know, see
- 25:05Speaker 3: how much interest you can have in, you know, whether
- 25:07Speaker 3: it's Germany or Mexico or whatever. If they can create enough,
- 25:10Speaker 3: if they can create enough revenue, but my, but again,
- 25:15Speaker 3: let's assume it's a hundred dollars. They, they can, they
- 25:18Speaker 3: can make a hundred dollars and they were making 90
- 25:20Speaker 3: somewhere else.
- 25:22Speaker 4: But I think it's, does it matter?
- 25:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's longterm because I think, again,
- 25:27Speaker 3: I think for them, you got to look at not
- 25:29Speaker 3: only viewership, but you got to look at, um, like
- 25:32Speaker 3: the player bases. So they got to figure out different
- 25:34Speaker 3: ways and different spots around the world to go get
- 25:37Speaker 3: players now. Cause you know, I think with an American football,
- 25:43Speaker 3: you know, you know, I'm not going to say it's dying,
- 25:47Speaker 3: but I don't think it's as popular as it was
- 25:48Speaker 3: 10 years ago.
- 25:49Speaker 4: No, I would agree. So I would agree.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I think that you're going to have to, at some
- 25:53Speaker 3: point expand for nothing else, but just to have a
- 25:57Speaker 3: group of players, you know what I'm saying? So if
- 25:58Speaker 3: you go to Germany, maybe some of those cats who
- 26:00Speaker 3: play rugby, in a soccer cast now they may be
- 26:03Speaker 3: playing football or you're going to African countries and different things.
- 26:07Speaker 4: And I agree.
- 26:08Speaker 3: I don't think the popularity is, I think it is,
- 26:11Speaker 3: we're losing it. But I think that is also, I
- 26:14Speaker 3: think that is part of the way the game is played.
- 26:19Speaker 3: I think it's, and the way all the different side
- 26:22Speaker 3: bars of the game, I think people get tired of it. Like,
- 26:27Speaker 3: you know, they're tired of the quarterback.
- 26:28Speaker 4: He's not playing. or somebody's holding out, all that kind
- 26:34Speaker 4: of stuff.
- 26:34Speaker 5: See, I disagree.
- 26:35Speaker 4: See, I think the fans are— Disagree what?
- 26:38Speaker 6: I disagree.
- 26:38Speaker 7: I think fans are still as devoted to college and
- 26:43Speaker 7: NFL football. If you look at the SEC, those games
- 26:46Speaker 7: in those stadiums this week, there wasn't an empty seat
- 26:48Speaker 7: in any of them. And I think where the issue
- 26:51Speaker 7: lies the most is that the players, is that the
- 26:55Speaker 7: little league level, the middle school, high school, the popularity
- 26:59Speaker 7: of playing the sport, I think, is lessened. Those kids
- 27:03Speaker 7: are playing soccer. They're doing other less physical contact types
- 27:07Speaker 7: of sports, which is limiting the number of athletes coming
- 27:11Speaker 7: to play football when you get to the.
- 27:13Speaker 3: But I also think it is something to be said,
- 27:15Speaker 3: because if you talk to just like maybe the casual
- 27:18Speaker 3: college football fan, I think they're sort of tuned out
- 27:20Speaker 3: because of the movement of everything like that. So I
- 27:23Speaker 3: think that's that's that's really hurting the game. And that's
- 27:26Speaker 3: why they saw in a rush to pass that. that
- 27:28Speaker 3: Nick Saban bill.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Why don't they.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Tap into the Canadian football league? Why not try to
- 27:32Speaker 5: merge the leagues? I mean, they've got like, what, an
- 27:36Speaker 5: eight or ten team league up there.
- 27:37Speaker 6: I don't think that's a great idea.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's a great idea. It's just different rules.
- 27:42Speaker 6: But you can work on that.
- 27:44Speaker 5: Yeah, because I mean, like, there are American players that
- 27:47Speaker 5: wind up up there. I think about Marshall, former quarterback
- 27:50Speaker 5: Rakeem Kato. He had a great CFL career.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Yeah, Michael Hughes was his upper kicker from GW. He
- 27:55Speaker 3: was just up there.
- 27:57Speaker 5: That, to me, seems like the easy, low-hanging fruit.
- 27:59Speaker 6: I like that.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 3: So, again, another NFL question. So what are your thoughts
- 28:06Speaker 3: on owners being overtly involved in football decisions? Obviously, we
- 28:11Speaker 3: think of Jerry Jones, but we got to think of
- 28:14Speaker 3: Miss Ursae from the Colts.
- 28:17Speaker 4: She's a new owner.
- 28:18Speaker 3: She inherited from her grandfather or father, so she's like
- 28:20Speaker 3: a third-generation owner. And what she's actually doing, not only
- 28:23Speaker 3: is she, like, she's on the sideline during the games,
- 28:28Speaker 3: and she's at times been listening to the headset so
- 28:30Speaker 3: she's getting the calls. Like, directly to, like, figure out
- 28:34Speaker 3: what's going on. And I think she recently, I want
- 28:36Speaker 3: to say today, just fired her GM.
- 28:38Speaker 6: Yes, she sure did.
- 28:38Speaker 4: Yeah, so what are your thoughts on the owners being, like,
- 28:41Speaker 4: that involved?
- 28:42Speaker 7: Well, if you're going to use her example and look
- 28:45Speaker 7: at the record of the Colts and look at the
- 28:46Speaker 7: example of Jerry Jones and the record of the Cowboys,
- 28:48Speaker 7: I would say that it's not that effective of a strategy.
- 28:51Speaker 6: I mean, just looking at it doesn't appear to work.
- 28:55Speaker 6: But I don't know. I mean, what do you think, Carl?
- 29:01Speaker 3: Again.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Mike Lynn.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Is always where I have to start off when we
- 29:08Speaker 3: start talking about stuff like this. I think when you
- 29:11Speaker 3: start talking about ownership, I think part of the problem
- 29:19Speaker 3: is how that ownership is involved.
- 29:23Speaker 4: How invested are they into the game? And I don't
- 29:30Speaker 4: know how.
- 29:33Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 29:33Speaker 3: I just don't... I don't think that... I don't think
- 29:36Speaker 3: that there should be any... I don't think we're ready
- 29:39Speaker 3: for any... changes of any type right now.
- 29:45Speaker 6: Changes as in?
- 29:46Speaker 3: As in the way, who's running it? Who's going to
- 29:50Speaker 3: run it? Who's going to make the final decisions?
- 29:55Speaker 4: Changing the league. Ownerships are going to change the league.
- 30:01Speaker 4: They're going to be the main ones changing the league.
- 30:04Speaker 3: If they sit around and start talking about, okay, let's
- 30:08Speaker 3: do this, let's do this, let's play these games over here,
- 30:10Speaker 3: let's do that, all those kind of things, to me,
- 30:13Speaker 3: I think that's a problem. Because to Hollis' point, the
- 30:17Speaker 3: game has dropped off already. I don't know if you
- 30:23Speaker 3: can just hope that you're going to create something that's
- 30:25Speaker 3: going to make it grow.
- 30:27Speaker 4: I just think that the game has to be better.
- 30:29Speaker 3: What I'm asking is, like, owners being involved in day-to-day
- 30:33Speaker 3: team decisions. So, like, personnel decisions, you know, who's playing,
- 30:38Speaker 3: just like that, basically a meddling owner in their team's
- 30:41Speaker 3: day-to-day operations. Here's the problem. They don't see it as meddling.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I guess that's the point.
- 30:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 30:48Speaker 4: They don't see it as meddling. What they see is
- 30:51Speaker 4: it's mine.
- 30:55Speaker 3: I can't grab your phone and start going through it
- 30:57Speaker 3: and saying, well, I have a right to do it
- 31:00Speaker 3: because I got one or I bought one.
- 31:03Speaker 4: And I think that's where we are.
- 31:04Speaker 3: We're getting to the point where the ownership is starting
- 31:09Speaker 3: to think that they're going to run the team. They're
- 31:11Speaker 3: going to manage the team even on the field. And
- 31:15Speaker 3: they can't do it. They might be great business people.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Yeah. But that doesn't make you a great coach.
- 31:22Speaker 7: But are there other examples besides the Colts and the
- 31:25Speaker 7: Cowboys of really that being a problem, you feel like?
- 31:30Speaker 4: Not that I've heard per se.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I mean, we always look at like the
- 31:33Speaker 3: old Lakers and the Bust family. They were super involved. Obviously,
- 31:37Speaker 3: they had results there. But I think that, you know,
- 31:41Speaker 3: football is just so different. Yeah, that's it right there.
- 31:44Speaker 6: That's it.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Like I always tell people, people are like, well, you know,
- 31:47Speaker 3: they need to start a league or da-da-da-da-da-da. I mean,
- 31:50Speaker 3: at a minimum, you probably need like 10 coaches just
- 31:53Speaker 3: to like say go, right? Right. And it's so nuanced.
- 31:57Speaker 3: And football is such a detailed type of sport. It's
- 31:59Speaker 3: really about if you're not digging in the details about
- 32:03Speaker 3: like how you're coaching, I think that's what separates like
- 32:05Speaker 3: Nick Saban from other coaches, right? Because he's so like minute,
- 32:08Speaker 3: micro details about everything. So I think if you don't
- 32:12Speaker 3: have a deep understanding of football, football strategy, personnel, a
- 32:18Speaker 3: technique and all those things, it's sort of hard to
- 32:21Speaker 3: assess and judge. And that's what will happen when you
- 32:25Speaker 3: have the Mike Lynn-type ownership that wants to be involved,
- 32:30Speaker 3: but you don't really.
- 32:32Speaker 4: Know what's going on.
- 32:33Speaker 6: You don't know what you're doing.
- 32:35Speaker 4: And you're making decisions.
- 32:36Speaker 6: I mean, Jerry Jones has been doing this for years.
- 32:39Speaker 6: And look at the outcomes. I mean, it's just, you know,
- 32:43Speaker 6: it's the truth, right?
- 32:44Speaker 7: And you talk to Cowboy fans that are, you know,
- 32:47Speaker 7: every year this is our year, which we all say
- 32:49Speaker 7: that in the NFL. But their biggest complaint, and they'll
- 32:53Speaker 7: tell you this, almost every fan that you talk to,
- 32:55Speaker 7: until Jerry Jones gets his nose out of the franchise's
- 33:01Speaker 7: actual day-to-day operations and business, it's going to be like this.
- 33:05Speaker 5: Woody Johnson and the Jets is another one. Jets have
- 33:08Speaker 5: been terrible for a long time, too, and he's got
- 33:09Speaker 5: his fingers in a lot.
- 33:11Speaker 3: And see, when you look at those teams. See, it
- 33:12Speaker 3: doesn't work. Yes, because they're in it for themselves. They
- 33:17Speaker 3: don't have any coaching experience. I seriously doubt that they
- 33:22Speaker 3: have any GM kind of stuff. They're just money folks.
- 33:27Speaker 3: They're just owners who are going to, like, I can't
- 33:31Speaker 3: walk into your job and tell you, well, Lisa, you know,
- 33:35Speaker 3: here's what I think your problem is.
- 33:37Speaker 7: It's like being the owner of a hospital and walking
- 33:40Speaker 7: in saying, I'm going to perform heart surgery today.
- 33:42Speaker 6: You know, pretty much. Yes.
- 33:45Speaker 3: And I think what, and to Hollis's point, I think,
- 33:50Speaker 3: The more we get that, I think the worse the
- 33:52Speaker 3: game is going to be. I just think it's just,
- 33:56Speaker 3: because players are not happy when they're in those organizations.
- 34:00Speaker 4: They hate it.
- 34:01Speaker 3: I mean, the Viking organization itself for me and the
- 34:06Speaker 3: team and all of that was great. The upper management,
- 34:14Speaker 3: I'll say individual, made it the worst situation ever.
- 34:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:20Speaker 4: Just one person.
- 34:21Speaker 6: And that's all it takes.
- 34:22Speaker 4: That's all it takes.
- 34:23Speaker 6: That's all it takes.
- 34:24Speaker 4: Because there's nobody who can say anything about it. All right.
- 34:28Speaker 3: So speaking of that, just moving on from NFL to college. Now,
- 34:32Speaker 3: unless you correct me if I'm wrong, five out of
- 34:35Speaker 3: the seven top teams, so like one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
- 34:39Speaker 4: We're not talking about just top. It's like theoretical. We're
- 34:41Speaker 4: saying the rankings.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:43Speaker 3: So five of the seven top teams lost this weekend.
- 34:47Speaker 3: This is the first time this has ever happened that
- 34:50Speaker 3: that many teams lost. And again, it's because of NILs,
- 34:54Speaker 3: because of transfer. It's because of the talent is not
- 34:58Speaker 3: concentrated anymore. So if you're in Florida now, Florida State, Miami,
- 35:03Speaker 3: and FSU just can't stack up talent like they used to.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Those guys are totally spread out. So the question is,
- 35:09Speaker 3: is this level of parity good for college football or not?
- 35:15Speaker 7: Well, I mean, you know, as much as fans and
- 35:18Speaker 7: we've talked about this time and time again on the podcast,
- 35:20Speaker 7: as much as we, you know, dislike, I don't want
- 35:24Speaker 7: to say hate, dislike NIL and we dislike the transfer
- 35:27Speaker 7: portal and everything that goes along with it. You know,
- 35:30Speaker 7: it really does appear that we were finally, you know,
- 35:33Speaker 7: it's kind of leveling out. Like in the beginning, it
- 35:36Speaker 7: was like, OK, we're seeing the haves get more and
- 35:38Speaker 7: the have nots. still the true have-nots like Marshall, the
- 35:43Speaker 7: lower tier, you know, those teams, you know, it hurts
- 35:46Speaker 7: them still. But I think if you get above a
- 35:49Speaker 7: certain level, like for the Big 12, the, you know, conference.
- 35:53Speaker 6: Power four. Power four, that.
- 35:56Speaker 7: It's starting to level out. But we're seeing that with
- 35:58Speaker 7: the wins and losses this past weekend. I just want
- 36:02Speaker 7: to go over them real quick in case somebody missed it. But, okay,
- 36:05Speaker 7: number one, Georgia lost to an unranked Auburn team.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Crazy.
- 36:09Speaker 6: Unranked, right?
- 36:10Speaker 3: That's crazy.
- 36:11Speaker 6: Of course, Notre Dame lost to BYU. BYU was ranked eight.
- 36:14Speaker 6: Notre Dame, two.
- 36:15Speaker 7: Number five, Indiana, lost to Ohio State at home. But
- 36:18Speaker 7: Ohio State was ranked number four.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not really.
- 36:20Speaker 7: Wasn't too horrible. Alabama lost to Tennessee. Alabama was six. Tennessee, 14.
- 36:25Speaker 7: Number seven, Texas, lost to unranked Florida.
- 36:29Speaker 3: And we'll talk about that one a little later. But
- 36:31Speaker 3: I think, to your point, Coastley, you talked about NFL.
- 36:36Speaker 3: You talked about guys playing in systems. What's happened in
- 36:39Speaker 3: addition to guys with the money and spread it out,
- 36:42Speaker 3: I think it's caused guys to make non-football decisions. So
- 36:47Speaker 3: I think you'll have this player, like the quarterback from Michigan. Obviously,
- 36:52Speaker 3: that quarterback from Michigan doesn't necessarily fit into that system
- 36:56Speaker 3: that they're trying to run. So what happens is that
- 36:59Speaker 3: you're looking at a paycheck instead of going to the
- 37:02Speaker 3: system that fits you.
- 37:03Speaker 4: That makes sense. Because before, if I'm a player.
- 37:08Speaker 3: And I'm, you know, I'm getting maybe some dark money
- 37:10Speaker 3: and money under the table. But, you know, I would
- 37:12Speaker 3: have to look. You're looking at facilities. You're looking at
- 37:15Speaker 3: academic stuff. But you're also primarily looking at, okay, do
- 37:19Speaker 3: they run a system that's conducive to my skill set?
- 37:22Speaker 3: And I think players, that's like second or third now.
- 37:25Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Because they're looking at the money and the revenue generating opportunities.
- 37:29Speaker 3: Because it's that idea of I can't pass this money up.
- 37:33Speaker 4: I can't let it go.
- 37:35Speaker 3: So whether or not they're running a wishbone and I'm
- 37:38Speaker 3: a dropback quarterback, if they're going to.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Pay me enough, I'm going to go.
- 37:43Speaker 3: But is this good for, it's just outside of that,
- 37:48Speaker 3: is like having this sort of parody where we really
- 37:50Speaker 3: don't know who's the best team.
- 37:52Speaker 4: Is that good for college?
- 37:53Speaker 3: Because we never really, because in college sports, you always
- 37:55Speaker 3: had about that five teams that you knew.
- 37:57Speaker 4: That was going to always be there. Yeah, you knew
- 37:59Speaker 4: about the five, maybe 10 teams in any given year.
- 38:02Speaker 3: I will say it this way. I think that it's
- 38:06Speaker 3: good that you can, the parody of it. But the
- 38:11Speaker 3: way we got there ultimately is going to blow up
- 38:15Speaker 3: It's going to blow up.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it's blowing up.
- 38:17Speaker 3: And so it looks well, but the future, the long-term
- 38:23Speaker 3: future is going to blow up.
- 38:27Speaker 6: It just needs reined in. I think that's the thing.
- 38:30Speaker 7: You've got to set some caps, some limits to how
- 38:33Speaker 7: many times you can transfer, how much money you can get,
- 38:36Speaker 7: those kind of things.
- 38:38Speaker 4: See, I've talked about capping the money for a long time.
- 38:40Speaker 3: That's what they're trying to do with the Safe Scholarship Program.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Okay so that is part of.
- 38:46Speaker 3: That well let me yeah they're gonna cap it yeah
- 38:48Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be yeah I think the baseline
- 38:50Speaker 3: is 20 and the max is like 47 50 million.
- 38:57Speaker 7: I'll take that cap.
- 39:00Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a big one.
- 39:01Speaker 4: But that's not just football. That's for your whole department.
- 39:04Speaker 7: Oh, okay.
- 39:04Speaker 4: Not just football. I was going to say.
- 39:07Speaker 6: Well, let me ask you guys this.
- 39:08Speaker 7: Since we're talking about the parity in college football and
- 39:10Speaker 7: what's happening this year with the rankings being crazy, number
- 39:14Speaker 7: one's changing almost every week. Do you think that this
- 39:17Speaker 7: kind of solidifies the argument of the NCAA? They're wanting
- 39:22Speaker 7: to go from the 12 to the 24 team playoff?
- 39:25Speaker 7: Do you think that this helps it, their argument?
- 39:27Speaker 6: I do.
- 39:28Speaker 4: I think it does. And it's like, man, what... about time.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Like every other sport has like a, a, a playoff.
- 39:35Speaker 3: I mean, again, 24 teams, maybe we could do 16,
- 39:39Speaker 3: you know, maybe 17 with the number one getting to
- 39:41Speaker 3: buy something. Like, I don't know if we need 24,
- 39:44Speaker 3: but it's like, if we've, if we're going to have
- 39:45Speaker 3: a top 25 ranking, heck, you might as well just
- 39:48Speaker 3: do it. And I think that, you know, every other
- 39:50Speaker 3: sport figure out how to manage this. D2, D3 football, NAIA,
- 39:55Speaker 3: junior college, like they all figure out how to do this. So,
- 39:57Speaker 3: I think it's, you know, it's inevitable and it's about time.
- 40:00Speaker 3: I think it's about time. Because you got to get
- 40:02Speaker 3: rid of it. So I'm sorry, I don't mean to
- 40:03Speaker 3: cut you off, but you got to just get rid
- 40:04Speaker 3: of the bowl games.
- 40:05Speaker 4: Just get rid of them. Yeah, they're not really them anymore.
- 40:08Speaker 6: But you could possibly use a lot of those bowl
- 40:10Speaker 6: games to do the 24.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:11Speaker 6: Just use the names.
- 40:12Speaker 3: It's just going to be called like first round fiesta
- 40:15Speaker 3: or whatever bowls.
- 40:15Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying?
- 40:16Speaker 4: Just scale down.
- 40:17Speaker 3: What bothers me, I like it, but what.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Concerns me is the number of teams. I don't know
- 40:29Speaker 4: if that.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Number is— I think it's too many.
- 40:32Speaker 4: You think 24 is too many? I think 24 is
- 40:35Speaker 4: too many.
- 40:35Speaker 7: Then they should do away with the AP poll of 24,
- 40:38Speaker 7: 25 teams. Which is where I guess they got it.
- 40:41Speaker 6: Yeah, that's exactly where they'll get it.
- 40:43Speaker 3: So I think the top 25, and like you said,
- 40:45Speaker 3: just integrate the bowl games into the round of the playoffs.
- 40:49Speaker 3: First round and you'll have all the mayonnaise bowl, the
- 40:52Speaker 3: car quest bowl. I think that you just kill the bowls.
- 40:57Speaker 3: I think you keep that just integrated into the playoff game.
- 41:02Speaker 7: But let's think about this and maybe Matt can do
- 41:04Speaker 7: the math for us. How many games, including the regular
- 41:10Speaker 7: season games, how many games would a team have to
- 41:12Speaker 7: win to win the national championship if we go to
- 41:14Speaker 7: a 24 game?
- 41:16Speaker 4: I thought it was 16, right? Is 16 or 17?
- 41:19Speaker 6: Would that be 16 or 17? That's just off the
- 41:21Speaker 6: top of my head.
- 41:23Speaker 4: I thought it was 17 games.
- 41:24Speaker 5: Well, all right. So if you got 24, then you
- 41:27Speaker 5: go down to 12. Then you go down to six.
- 41:33Speaker 7: See, it's kind of like confusing.
- 41:35Speaker 4: Yeah, you would have to figure out.
- 41:37Speaker 5: You'd have to have some kind of.
- 41:38Speaker 6: You'd have to sit down and do some kind of formula.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:40Speaker 6: Because if you win, you keep moving on.
- 41:42Speaker 3: You lose.
- 41:44Speaker 6: You're out.
- 41:45Speaker 5: Yeah, somehow in that first round you've got to figure
- 41:47Speaker 5: it out.
- 41:47Speaker 6: But there's a number.
- 41:47Speaker 5: I'll find out this week.
- 41:48Speaker 6: We'll figure it out.
- 41:49Speaker 4: So how many rounds? If you had 24, so you
- 41:50Speaker 4: have 12 on each side.
- 41:52Speaker 3: So you've got one round, so that takes you down
- 41:57Speaker 3: to 12. Then you've got the round of six.
- 42:00Speaker 5: Yeah, so you'd have to do something there to break
- 42:02Speaker 5: that down to where it's four and then two.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:05Speaker 6: Four and two. Yeah, I don't know how they'll do it.
- 42:07Speaker 7: But I just think it's a lot of– I was
- 42:11Speaker 7: a reading specialist in my defense when I taught.
- 42:13Speaker 5: Well, I mean, you can do some kind of like
- 42:17Speaker 5: wild card or something similar. I mean, that's how we
- 42:19Speaker 5: do it in professional sports is just wild card.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Do you think that that's what they're going to do?
- 42:23Speaker 4: They're going to probably use the whole wild card system?
- 42:27Speaker 7: Marshall did it years ago whenever they were– 1AA.
- 42:31Speaker 6: Yeah, 1AA. That's how they won their championship. But I
- 42:33Speaker 6: don't know if it was 24 teams.
- 42:35Speaker 4: I think it was about 24 teams.
- 42:36Speaker 6: It was a lot. I remember they were playing every week.
- 42:38Speaker 4: D2 championships is 24 teams.
- 42:39Speaker 6: Yeah, there you go. And that's what it was.
- 42:42Speaker 3: But they break it down like super regional. They do
- 42:44Speaker 3: stuff like that. But I think you're going to end it.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Because if you got what? You got 12 regular season games?
- 42:51Speaker 4: Or 11? 11.
- 42:52Speaker 6: Depends on if you go to the conference championship, right?
- 42:55Speaker 4: So that's 13.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Yeah, you've got to consider that one, too. So you've
- 42:59Speaker 3: got 13. So I want to say it's about 17 games.
- 43:02Speaker 6: That's a lot.
- 43:05Speaker 5: That's an NFL regular season.
- 43:07Speaker 7: And if you're being paid like NFL players, we're going
- 43:10Speaker 7: to expect the same performance.
- 43:11Speaker 4: And, again, it's money. It's money.
- 43:14Speaker 6: It's all money.
- 43:15Speaker 5: Marshall was in a 16-team bracket.
- 43:17Speaker 6: Okay, okay. And it seemed like it lasted forever. I
- 43:20Speaker 6: can't imagine 24.
- 43:21Speaker 3: All right, speaking of pay, we got Arch Manning. So
- 43:25Speaker 3: there's been a lot of, basically, that's been outside of,
- 43:29Speaker 3: you know, the parody talking as far as college sports
- 43:31Speaker 3: is concerned. That's been the big talking point. And they're basically,
- 43:36Speaker 3: some guys are saying, hey, he needs to, possibly be benched.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Other guys are just saying like, hey, man, he's not great.
- 43:43Speaker 2: He's good.
- 43:44Speaker 3: And this is what you're going to have. And I
- 43:46Speaker 3: think the bench argument is just around like how good
- 43:48Speaker 3: their defense is. And it's an opportunity for them to
- 43:50Speaker 3: win the championship this year. But, you know, when we
- 43:53Speaker 3: talk about a player of that magnitude with that last
- 43:56Speaker 3: name coming, you know, sort of managing those expectations, are
- 44:02Speaker 3: we allowing ourselves for the opportunity just to watch the
- 44:05Speaker 3: guy develop. Like he just made, I mean, he's been
- 44:08Speaker 3: in the system three years now. He may not just,
- 44:11Speaker 3: I mean, it may take him another year just to develop.
- 44:14Speaker 3: Do we have that patience anymore? Can we just say, hey, man,
- 44:17Speaker 3: you're not going to get it all right now. You're
- 44:19Speaker 3: not as great as what we thought initially. Maybe you
- 44:21Speaker 3: need a little extra time.
- 44:23Speaker 4: No, I'm not. I agree with you.
- 44:26Speaker 7: But you can tell Carl came from the NFL, the
- 44:29Speaker 7: old school NFL.
- 44:30Speaker 4: I'm with you.
- 44:31Speaker 3: I understand 100 percent. And you are exactly right. But
- 44:37Speaker 3: sports doesn't have that anymore. There is none of that.
- 44:40Speaker 3: What are you going to give me right now? And
- 44:43Speaker 3: part of that, I'm giving you this money. I expect
- 44:46Speaker 3: you to be this.
- 44:47Speaker 4: That's true. So I don't have no time for you to.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Okay, so you should develop. We're going to give you
- 44:54Speaker 4: this money. Play as a freshman. Okay? You did okay.
- 44:58Speaker 4: Now as a sophomore, we need you. You don't get.
- 45:06Speaker 3: three, four years at any level and you ain't showing
- 45:10Speaker 3: out and you're getting paid a bunch of money.
- 45:13Speaker 7: I think he's inconsistent though, isn't he?
- 45:15Speaker 6: I mean, he looks like, okay.
- 45:17Speaker 7: So when I've watched him, you know, play the few
- 45:19Speaker 7: times that I've seen Texas on TV that, you know,
- 45:22Speaker 7: I've tuned in, you know, he looks comfortable when he
- 45:24Speaker 7: like hits the, the, the deep downfield shots. Like he,
- 45:27Speaker 7: he seems to be okay with those, but you know,
- 45:30Speaker 7: then he struggles though with just like routine, like check
- 45:33Speaker 7: downs and, And simple, you know.
- 45:35Speaker 6: Short routes. So do you think that's his execution.
- 45:39Speaker 3: Or is it coach called the plays? No, I think, well,
- 45:44Speaker 3: you got to be the, you know, if Hollis can't,
- 45:46Speaker 3: if I call a deep ball and Hollis can't throw it.
- 45:49Speaker 4: He can't be my guy. Well, I think, like, it's
- 45:51Speaker 4: two things. So I say this.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Number one, they're trying to make, trying to put a
- 45:57Speaker 3: square peg into a round hole.
- 45:58Speaker 6: There you go.
- 45:59Speaker 3: He's an athlete. He's a dual threat quarterback. You got
- 46:02Speaker 3: to run him. And that's what they kind of don't
- 46:05Speaker 3: want to do, just running. He's a guy who can run,
- 46:08Speaker 3: get on the edge. He can do a lot. He's
- 46:10Speaker 3: a really good athlete, right? So I think they're trying
- 46:13Speaker 3: to just set him in the pocket and he has
- 46:15Speaker 3: to read.
- 46:15Speaker 4: And that may not be his strong suit now. Pit
- 46:18Speaker 4: him in the gun and let him run.
- 46:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree.
- 46:20Speaker 3: And I'm going to say this, and I said this
- 46:22Speaker 3: last year when I first seen him, something is wrong
- 46:25Speaker 3: with that shoulder. And I'm telling you as a quarterback,
- 46:28Speaker 3: the way he moves the shoulder, the way he throws
- 46:30Speaker 3: inconsistent like you just said. Because sometimes when you got
- 46:35Speaker 3: a shoulder problem, and I'm not saying it's deep or
- 46:37Speaker 3: tear or anything, but I'm saying it could possibly be
- 46:39Speaker 3: some sort of tendonitis. The deep balls tend to be
- 46:43Speaker 3: a little easier for you because you can get the
- 46:45Speaker 3: full expansion. But sometimes when you're throwing those intermediate route,
- 46:49Speaker 3: you got to get the zip. And what happens is
- 46:51Speaker 3: it's not about power at that point. It's about the
- 46:53Speaker 3: quickness of that release. And sometimes it's hard to get
- 46:56Speaker 3: that gun up there. And, you know, I wish y'all
- 47:00Speaker 3: can't see me, but it's hard to just... It's hard to.
- 47:02Speaker 4: Get that quick... I feel blessed.
- 47:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's hard to get that quicker movement.
- 47:06Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I mean?
- 47:08Speaker 3: That makes sense. Something's wrong with that shoulder. Maybe he
- 47:11Speaker 3: doesn't want to disclose. Maybe he doesn't want to have
- 47:13Speaker 3: the surgery. But I think ultimately... Man, they just got
- 47:17Speaker 3: to get a different system and let him run the ball.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Let him be an athlete.
- 47:20Speaker 4: And again, that's the situation where... I want you to
- 47:25Speaker 4: do this in my system, and I don't want you
- 47:27Speaker 4: to run.
- 47:28Speaker 3: And then based on his family history, there's never really
- 47:33Speaker 3: been a, you know, none of the quarterbacks have been
- 47:35Speaker 3: really that mobile.
- 47:36Speaker 4: But the granddaddy was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the uncle
- 47:40Speaker 4: and the dad. Yeah.
- 47:42Speaker 3: Well, his dad, again, you got to remember, his dad
- 47:43Speaker 3: was the best athlete. Cooper was the best athlete out
- 47:46Speaker 3: of the bunch. Remember, he was the receiver. Yes. He
- 47:48Speaker 3: ended up getting sick, so he didn't have a career,
- 47:50Speaker 3: you know, outside of high school. But he's got that
- 47:53Speaker 3: athletic of the daddy and his, excuse me, the granddaddy
- 47:57Speaker 3: and his dad.
- 47:58Speaker 4: So, you know, I don't know.
- 48:01Speaker 3: It's like, I just wish we could be more patient.
- 48:03Speaker 4: But like you said, money don't allow that.
- 48:07Speaker 3: And it's a shame that we've got ourself in a
- 48:10Speaker 3: situation to where, you know, I'm going to bring you
- 48:12Speaker 3: in and I'm going to pay you this money and.
- 48:18Speaker 4: I'm starting you as a freshman. Right.
- 48:21Speaker 3: And you got to give me a junior, senior kind
- 48:25Speaker 3: of performance. Because if not, I'm already starting to look
- 48:31Speaker 3: around and are we thinking about who we're going to
- 48:34Speaker 3: try to find next year because this ain't going to work?
- 48:39Speaker 4: I don't know, dude.
- 48:41Speaker 3: Do you know of, at this point in time, off
- 48:44Speaker 3: your head, a quarterback– that was an average freshman or
- 48:50Speaker 3: an average rookie and is still playing.
- 48:54Speaker 4: Three, four, five years later. As a starter. I mean,
- 48:58Speaker 4: but he's a junior now, right?
- 49:00Speaker 6: Yeah, I think so. He's got one more year. But
- 49:01Speaker 6: there's rumors that he's not coming back next year.
- 49:04Speaker 4: Where is he going to go? You're talking about, like, draft?
- 49:07Speaker 6: Draft. There's rumors. He ain't ready for that.
- 49:10Speaker 5: No, no.
- 49:11Speaker 7: In fact, they're saying that his recent mock draft boards,
- 49:15Speaker 7: they're tumbling quickly.
- 49:19Speaker 6: So they're saying, should he stay? Should he go?
- 49:22Speaker 7: I mean, I think for, in my opinion, with his shoulder,
- 49:25Speaker 7: what you're saying makes a lot of sense, Hollis, with
- 49:27Speaker 7: it being some kind of an internal injury, like nagging
- 49:31Speaker 7: injury that just comes and goes. He needs time to
- 49:35Speaker 7: let that heal, and he also needs more time Just
- 49:38Speaker 7: another year of development.
- 49:39Speaker 3: But he's got to be the one stepping forward to
- 49:42Speaker 3: make sure he can get that time and get it checked.
- 49:45Speaker 3: Because to me, most of the time, it's the player
- 49:49Speaker 3: who's the one hiding it. Because I'm telling you, man,
- 49:53Speaker 3: the way the NFL going, ain't no development in the NFL.
- 49:55Speaker 5: No.
- 49:56Speaker 4: It's too hard.
- 49:57Speaker 3: Like, if you really look at, like, NFL quarterbacks, I'm
- 50:01Speaker 3: telling you, man, I— It's getting harder and harder, and
- 50:04Speaker 3: it's like less and less dudes out there. So those
- 50:06Speaker 3: dudes that can really play are just really, really special
- 50:10Speaker 3: because it's just too hard to play, even with the rules,
- 50:13Speaker 3: it seems like. You got all the rules to your advantage,
- 50:16Speaker 3: but it's still even that much harder because it's just schematically,
- 50:20Speaker 3: and the athletes, particularly at the defensive back position and
- 50:24Speaker 3: the front four, it's tough, man.
- 50:26Speaker 6: You got to be fast. You got to be quick
- 50:27Speaker 6: because they're quicker.
- 50:28Speaker 4: They're quicker.
- 50:29Speaker 6: That line is quick.
- 50:30Speaker 4: Go ahead. Go ahead.
- 50:32Speaker 7: I was just going to say, okay, so what you're,
- 50:34Speaker 7: like I said, what Hollis said about the shoulder injury
- 50:36Speaker 7: makes sense.
- 50:37Speaker 6: And what you said, Carl, about him maybe hiding.
- 50:39Speaker 7: It because, but wouldn't, if you see it, Wouldn't the
- 50:42Speaker 7: coaching staff notice a difference in his performance? Are they
- 50:45Speaker 7: ignoring him because they don't want to pull him off
- 50:47Speaker 7: the field?
- 50:47Speaker 6: I mean, what are your theories?
- 50:49Speaker 4: I think that that could be true just because of
- 50:51Speaker 4: the investment.
- 50:52Speaker 6: That's what I mean, yeah.
- 50:54Speaker 3: Texas, by and large, I'm not saying they leverage the future,
- 50:57Speaker 3: but it's a lot riding on him, not just as
- 50:59Speaker 3: far as what they pay, but a lot of people,
- 51:01Speaker 3: they're coming to the games to watch ours. It's a
- 51:04Speaker 3: lot outside of just what the paycheck is saying. And
- 51:09Speaker 3: that Manny name, that's football rules. You know what I'm saying?
- 51:13Speaker 3: It sure is. So it's to their advantage for him
- 51:16Speaker 3: to be good. They want him to succeed. So they're
- 51:20Speaker 3: not going to replace him. No, you're not going to
- 51:22Speaker 3: do that.
- 51:23Speaker 7: But let's just look at the facts, okay? They were
- 51:25Speaker 7: ranked number one at one point. They got beat by Oklahoma.
- 51:28Speaker 7: Then they dropped to number seven. Then they got beat
- 51:31Speaker 7: by Florida. And now they're at 19. They may not
- 51:33Speaker 7: even make the playoff.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:36Speaker 6: I mean, you know, there's some things.
- 51:37Speaker 4: But that's the gamble with the name. That's the gamble
- 51:40Speaker 4: with the name. Yeah.
- 51:42Speaker 3: And like I said, even like his high school, a
- 51:44Speaker 3: lot of people are kind of going back to that
- 51:45Speaker 3: where you play 2A football in Louisiana and you didn't
- 51:48Speaker 3: really even dominate 2A football in Louisiana. And, you know,
- 51:52Speaker 3: I've seen kids dominate 6A football in Louisiana at the
- 51:56Speaker 3: quarterback position and end up at like D2s.
- 51:59Speaker 4: Yeah. You know what I'm saying? So it's just. I mean,
- 52:01Speaker 4: he's got the perfect name, but he may not have
- 52:04Speaker 4: the skill set of the ones before.
- 52:07Speaker 7: Well, he sure will have the money that comes along
- 52:09Speaker 7: with it, regardless of whether he.
- 52:10Speaker 6: Makes it or not.
- 52:11Speaker 4: WV Cincy, I know we ain't got a lot of time.
- 52:13Speaker 7: Oh, yeah. So that was a must-win situation, and they
- 52:17Speaker 7: pulled it off. But let me tell you guys, they
- 52:19Speaker 7: won it. I think what the final score was 45-42.
- 52:25Speaker 7: I said right out of the gate when we started
- 52:27Speaker 7: watching the game, I said, whoever gets the ball last wins.
- 52:30Speaker 7: Whoever is on offense last is going to win this game.
- 52:33Speaker 7: The defense, guys, it's the same story.
- 52:37Speaker 4: The what? Exactly.
- 52:38Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 52:39Speaker 4: There was no defense.
- 52:40Speaker 1: No.
- 52:41Speaker 6: Like, it's the same story every week.
- 52:43Speaker 7: And the offense, you know, this week they were lucky
- 52:46Speaker 7: enough that Cincinnati's defense was just as stinky on the
- 52:48Speaker 7: field as ours. But they ended up winning it, you know,
- 52:51Speaker 7: 35-yard field goal with no time left on the clock.
- 52:53Speaker 6: So it was an exciting game.
- 52:55Speaker 4: That's awesome. It was a homecoming.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Yep.
- 52:57Speaker 3: And I think that's a big deal to win a
- 52:59Speaker 3: game like that at homecoming. I think that's a good deal,
- 53:04Speaker 3: but I don't know if that's going to be a
- 53:06Speaker 3: routine going forward. Yeah, because I know WVU, they have TCU.
- 53:12Speaker 3: They have Texas Tech. I believe both of those are
- 53:14Speaker 3: on the road. They got Kansas coming up. So it
- 53:18Speaker 3: ain't getting no easier for them.
- 53:19Speaker 5: They have three ranked teams coming up because they've got
- 53:23Speaker 5: TCU is currently eighth. Houston is 14, and Utah is 16.
- 53:27Speaker 5: So I know they play— Excuse me, Utah is 10th.
- 53:30Speaker 3: I know we're running out of time, but they play TCU,
- 53:33Speaker 3: and they play Texas Tech back-to-back games, right?
- 53:35Speaker 5: Yeah, those are on the road.
- 53:36Speaker 4: So I would.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Love to know the travel schedule. So if you're flying
- 53:41Speaker 3: all the way to Texas, you're going to play that game.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Are you flying back and then flying back or are
- 53:45Speaker 3: you staying on the road?
- 53:45Speaker 4: Well, there's a week off there. Oh, it's a week
- 53:46Speaker 4: in between?
- 53:47Speaker 5: A Halloween weekend they're off.
- 53:48Speaker 4: Okay, got it, got it, got it. Yeah, so that
- 53:50Speaker 4: would be a challenge. Oh, my gosh.
- 53:52Speaker 3: If you're playing it back-to-back, I just wonder how you
- 53:54Speaker 3: do that. And, again, it goes my reason. Again, I'm
- 53:57Speaker 3: not necessarily a fan of the same college sports side,
- 53:59Speaker 3: but one of the things I hope it can do
- 54:01Speaker 3: is do conference realignment.
- 54:02Speaker 6: I agree.
- 54:03Speaker 3: And you don't get a choice. This is the conference
- 54:05Speaker 3: that you're playing in. And you want to do that
- 54:07Speaker 3: by– By region, what you do. You know what I'm saying?
- 54:10Speaker 3: Which makes sense. WVU, we need to either be in
- 54:12Speaker 3: the Big Ten or we need to be in the ACC.
- 54:14Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 54:15Speaker 4: Come on, man.
- 54:16Speaker 7: I was just a couple of, like, I was just
- 54:18Speaker 7: the other day, I was watching a game, and California
- 54:21Speaker 7: is in the ACC.
- 54:23Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:23Speaker 7: I was like, what in the world is that? That
- 54:26Speaker 7: just blew my mind.
- 54:27Speaker 3: Because the thing is, if you're going to talk about, like,
- 54:29Speaker 3: having those limited budgets now, and again, it's one thing
- 54:32Speaker 3: for a football team because we only got, like, 10,
- 54:35Speaker 3: 12 games in a regular season, right?
- 54:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 54:37Speaker 3: But if you're talking about the volleyball team, the volleyball
- 54:39Speaker 3: team played in the BYU and they in California. You
- 54:43Speaker 3: can imagine the expense of that. And again, we love volleyball.
- 54:46Speaker 3: We love all the Olympic type of sports. But nobody's coming.
- 54:49Speaker 3: They're not filling up football arenas, right?
- 54:51Speaker 6: Doesn't have the audience.
- 54:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:53Speaker 3: And you're going to be better off playing a Cincinnati
- 54:55Speaker 3: or playing a Maryland where you're parents can come.
- 54:57Speaker 4: And you can recruit regionally again.
- 55:00Speaker 3: And again, I just think that there's an overlook of
- 55:05Speaker 3: that piece of parenting coming to the game and that
- 55:07Speaker 3: kind of stuff. I just don't think that they're looking
- 55:09Speaker 3: at it. Any way that they think there's a mass
- 55:12Speaker 3: way of making money.
- 55:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 55:14Speaker 4: And they're trying to go that way.
- 55:15Speaker 3: Now the schools, I think they have to make some
- 55:20Speaker 3: sort of allowance for the parents to fly to a
- 55:24Speaker 3: specific amount of games.
- 55:25Speaker 4: So that's another... Expense. Expense. You know what I mean?
- 55:29Speaker 6: It's out of control.
- 55:29Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 55:30Speaker 5: All right.
- 55:31Speaker 3: Well, ladies and gentlemen, hope you enjoyed the show and
- 55:33Speaker 3: we'll be back again next week.
