- 0:08Speaker 2: KFI AM six.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Forty Bill Handles Morning Crew. It is a Friday morning,
- 0:14Speaker 3: May the first. It is May Day where we dance
- 0:18Speaker 3: around the poll? Don't we also dance around the pole
- 0:22Speaker 3: for Festivus? I believe that's the case, very important day
- 0:27Speaker 3: to say the least. Now here is what happened in
- 0:34Speaker 3: terms of the shutdown? Who thought that there was a shutdown? Still, well,
- 0:38Speaker 3: there has been for seventy six days because you have
- 0:44Speaker 3: some FEMA employees, Coast Guard TSA employees that have not
- 0:50Speaker 3: been paid for seventy six days and worked because the
- 0:53Speaker 3: law says that they have to work without pay under
- 0:57Speaker 3: certain circumstances, and these were certain circumstances. So what happened, Well,
- 1:02Speaker 3: it all has to do with the folks at ICE
- 1:07Speaker 3: and Border patrol. And this is about the immigration roundups.
- 1:13Speaker 3: As you know, immigration huge issue for the administration and
- 1:17Speaker 3: the absolute position of President Trump saying we must deport
- 1:25Speaker 3: every illegal alien who is in the country. Now, initially
- 1:29Speaker 3: it was just the bad ones, right, that was it.
- 1:33Speaker 3: All We're going after are the bad people that should
- 1:37Speaker 3: be deported. Well, that was a croc because immigration went
- 1:40Speaker 3: after everybody, and the vast majority of people who were
- 1:43Speaker 3: detained are detained and were deported were innocent or the
- 1:49Speaker 3: infractions were minor, not a threat at all, and yet
- 1:54Speaker 3: they were being bounced out of here also with a
- 1:56Speaker 3: lot of force.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Those videos.
- 1:58Speaker 3: So what happened with immigration aids that were dealing with
- 2:01Speaker 3: people being pulled out of cars and separated from families
- 2:04Speaker 3: and then the two individuals who were shot and it
- 2:08Speaker 3: was absolutely horrific, and Christine Olim at that that time,
- 2:14Speaker 3: the head of the Department Homeland Security was saying that
- 2:19Speaker 3: these were terrorists. It was just crazy. I mean, it
- 2:22Speaker 3: made no sense at all. So she got bounced. So
- 2:25Speaker 3: what ended up happening is a boy was there a backlash.
- 2:29Speaker 3: And if you notice, the Trump administration is really downplaying
- 2:32Speaker 3: the immigration raids, really downplaying the number of people who
- 2:37Speaker 3: are being deported. Why because of the perception of the
- 2:43Speaker 3: utter chaos and the inhumanity of doing this, separating families
- 2:47Speaker 3: and beating people to a pulp and arresting them, and
- 2:51Speaker 3: it was it's bad news. So what ended up happening
- 2:55Speaker 3: is the Democrats wanted to they have to pass a
- 2:59Speaker 3: bill they got has to be funded.
- 3:01Speaker 2: And the Democrats say, I'll tell you what.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You separate out. This is the House senator has already
- 3:06Speaker 3: dealt with this. You separate out the department those departments.
- 3:12Speaker 3: You separate out Ice and Border Patrol and will take
- 3:16Speaker 3: up paying for them at a different time. Let's just
- 3:19Speaker 3: fund everything else. The Republicans were so adamant that ICE
- 3:24Speaker 3: and Border Patrol had to be funded as part of
- 3:28Speaker 3: this funding bill that they didn't move, and that was
- 3:31Speaker 3: the impasse. And the Democrats, what forty days ago, a
- 3:36Speaker 3: month and a half ago, kept on insisting, they have
- 3:39Speaker 3: not stopped, insisting that we want that funding to be
- 3:44Speaker 3: considered in a separate bill, and the Republicans said no.
- 3:48Speaker 3: As I said, what happened. The Republicans caved. It's exactly
- 3:53Speaker 3: the same bill that Democrats wanted. They just couldn't take
- 3:57Speaker 3: it anymore. Because how many people, other than adamant supporters
- 4:03Speaker 3: of the immigration process policy that President Trump has been following,
- 4:08Speaker 3: or they've been following him, how many people are in
- 4:11Speaker 3: favor of what happens and what ICE agents are doing.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Not many, not many, And the perception is getting worse
- 4:19Speaker 3: and worse. So the House voted, Mike Johnson put it
- 4:23Speaker 3: on the floor. Finally, and here is the problem. You
- 4:28Speaker 3: had the hard right, You had the real conservative Republicans
- 4:33Speaker 3: fighting like crazy to make sure that the funding continued
- 4:39Speaker 3: on or would not be passed. The funding would not
- 4:42Speaker 3: be passed by separating out ICE and Border Patrol. And
- 4:46Speaker 3: they said, it's all or nothing. We want funding of everything.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Democrats saying, no, we want to separate it out. And
- 4:54Speaker 3: here's the logic. If you have this kind of controversy
- 4:58Speaker 3: going on with two of these police agencies, Ice and
- 5:03Speaker 3: Border Patrol, and the Democrats say, let's deal with this
- 5:07Speaker 3: later on. In the meantime, we have to fund all
- 5:09Speaker 3: these other agencies. How logical is that? Doesn't that make sense? Well,
- 5:14Speaker 3: you have hardcore Republicans that are saying absolutely not, we.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Are not going to cave.
- 5:21Speaker 3: And finally, moderate Republicans, even right wing Republicans, went the
- 5:26Speaker 3: other way.
- 5:27Speaker 2: They said, Okay, we have to do what the Democrats want.
- 5:30Speaker 3: We have to go ahead and separate out the two bills.
- 5:36Speaker 3: So ICE and also Border Patrol is going to be
- 5:41Speaker 3: considered in a separate bill. All the other agencies are
- 5:45Speaker 3: now funded, although certain aspects of border control have been
- 5:51Speaker 3: funded through President Trump's entire term, so he doesn't have
- 5:55Speaker 3: to worry about it. And the Speaker acknowledge Johnson yesterday
- 6:01Speaker 3: that he had trash the spending bill originally when it
- 6:05Speaker 3: was first sent to the House by the Senate in March,
- 6:09Speaker 3: how because he called it hap hazardly drafted and criticized
- 6:14Speaker 3: it for zeroing out immigration enforcement operations. We threw a fit.
- 6:20Speaker 3: We had to, although he caved now much how much
- 6:23Speaker 3: it has to do with the President wanting the bill
- 6:28Speaker 3: considered in one fell swoop?
- 6:29Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know.
- 6:31Speaker 3: I have no idea that Mike Johnson wouldn't follow everything
- 6:34Speaker 3: anything that the President asks him to do. Okay, Moving
- 6:39Speaker 3: on California locally robo taxis. How do you ticket a
- 6:45Speaker 3: robo taxi for violation of the law, maybe going too fast,
- 6:50Speaker 3: maybe blowing through a stoplight, maybe making a U turn.
- 6:54Speaker 3: That is a problem, and California is taking care of
- 6:57Speaker 3: that problem.
- 6:57Speaker 2: It just slipped through the cracks.
- 6:59Speaker 3: It's not that there was any political backlash on this
- 7:03Speaker 3: or any political view.
- 7:04Speaker 2: We just slipped through the cracks. And I'll explain what's
- 7:06Speaker 2: going on.
- 7:07Speaker 3: With this camp by AM six forty Bill handle here,
- 7:11Speaker 3: Good morning. It is a Friday morning, It's Foody Friday
- 7:16Speaker 3: at eight o'clock, followed by Ask Candle Anything, Camp Mystic.
- 7:21Speaker 3: We're looking at some of the big stories. The Texas
- 7:24Speaker 3: Christian Camp where twenty seven campers and counselors died as
- 7:29Speaker 3: a result of the floods. Last July, I had applied
- 7:34Speaker 3: to reinstate itself as a camp. Eight hundred girls had
- 7:39Speaker 3: signed up. I mean you talk about craziness. Well, there
- 7:43Speaker 3: was such a backlash that the camp has withdrawn its
- 7:48Speaker 3: application for this year. It was heartbreaking to hear the
- 7:53Speaker 3: hearings where parents have lost their children. Now here's some
- 7:57Speaker 3: news that just came down and this is pretty expensive,
- 8:00Speaker 3: pretty extensive and important as to the war in Iran,
- 8:05Speaker 3: there is a proposal from Iran that has just happened.
- 8:10Speaker 3: First of all, we are in the middle of a well, actually,
- 8:14Speaker 3: the sixty day or was it a thirty day ceasefire?
- 8:18Speaker 3: OH War Resolutions Act of sixty days, thirty day or
- 8:22Speaker 3: two weeks ceasefire with Iran and the War Powers Act.
- 8:27Speaker 2: It connects.
- 8:27Speaker 3: The War Powers Act says that a president can only
- 8:31Speaker 3: use force along these lines for sixty days and Congress
- 8:35Speaker 3: has to fund anything thereafter. And the President is arguing, well,
- 8:41Speaker 3: since we're in the middle of a ceasefire, none of
- 8:43Speaker 3: that works. Pete Hegseth yesterday in front before Congress but
- 8:49Speaker 3: basically argued that there was a tolling of quote the statute,
- 8:55Speaker 3: So as long as ceasefire is happening, the War Powers
- 8:58Speaker 3: Act do not apply. Where of course, you got Democrats saying,
- 9:02Speaker 3: where is that written in the Act? Explain that one,
- 9:07Speaker 3: and he danced around that, and so you got the
- 9:11Speaker 3: War Powers Act.
- 9:12Speaker 2: You have the this.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Ceasefire going on right now, and the President has come
- 9:21Speaker 3: up with some ideas and that is basically the same
- 9:24Speaker 3: thing he has asked for, and that is the nuclear
- 9:28Speaker 3: facilities not to be used, the transfer of that enriched
- 9:32Speaker 3: uranium to someplace else. Well, here is what happened with Iran.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Their latest proposal. They want to restart negotiations through Pakistan.
- 9:42Speaker 3: They do not want direct talks, and they want to
- 9:46Speaker 3: first focus on de escalation, nothing about nuclear concessions, simply
- 9:53Speaker 3: de escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Then the issue
- 9:59Speaker 3: becomes the the excuse me the Iranian the military of
- 10:08Speaker 3: the Iranians basically controlling horror moves. The revolutionary Guard, which
- 10:15Speaker 3: controls the government, and they're going to keep on opening it.
- 10:19Speaker 3: It's not going to be free opening. It's not going
- 10:21Speaker 3: to be an international waterway as far as they're going
- 10:23Speaker 3: to concern. What Iranian is Iran is saying is we
- 10:26Speaker 3: will control the strait, we will open it, and ships
- 10:30Speaker 3: are going to go through, but they're going to pay
- 10:33Speaker 3: us a toll to get through. The toll for a
- 10:37Speaker 3: tanker is about two million dollars, just to let you know,
- 10:41Speaker 3: it's about a dollar a barrel. And when you figure
- 10:44Speaker 3: out there are hundreds of tankers they go through the
- 10:48Speaker 3: strait every year, that's a lot of money. So that
- 10:51Speaker 3: is new. Uh, they want to go ahead and basically
- 10:56Speaker 3: charge the toll. Also, they want security guarantees from the
- 11:02Speaker 3: US and Israel. And then they'll start talking about the
- 11:09Speaker 3: nuclear facilities they have and dealing with and reach enriched uranium.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Whether they continue or not, that's not on the table
- 11:19Speaker 3: right now. The manufacturer of drones not on the table
- 11:23Speaker 3: right now. Uh. The attack, the ability to attack, not
- 11:27Speaker 3: on the table right now. And so there isn't much
- 11:31Speaker 3: we'll see if the President moves on Pete Hegseth yesterday.
- 11:36Speaker 3: He's so contentious. Now when you have members of the
- 11:39Speaker 3: administration or anybody get into it, there's no such thing
- 11:44Speaker 3: as this collegial view anymore, or people respectful in front
- 11:49Speaker 3: of Congress used to you used to look at anybody
- 11:52Speaker 3: called in front of Congress as showing complete deference to Congress. Yes, Enator, no, congressman.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Now it's how dare you accuse us of doing whatever
- 12:05Speaker 3: the accusation is? How dare you should be ashamed of yourself?
- 12:08Speaker 3: I mean, it is contentious. And that's exactly what happened
- 12:11Speaker 3: yesterday with Pete Hegsith. He was asked by a Democrat
- 12:16Speaker 3: this quagmire that we're in because, remember it was the
- 12:22Speaker 3: nuclear program has been obliterated. Well, then why are you
- 12:25Speaker 3: arguing about the nuclear program? The war has been one
- 12:29Speaker 3: day one? Well really, then why are we still at war?
- 12:34Speaker 3: We're going to end this were two weeks, then it's
- 12:37Speaker 3: going to be two to four weeks. Well we've started
- 12:41Speaker 3: month three. And what he did is simply deflect quagmire. Quagmire.
- 12:47Speaker 3: You say, we're not in a quagmire. Look at what
- 12:51Speaker 3: happened with Afghanistan. That was a quagmire. Look what happened
- 12:55Speaker 3: in your rock that was a quagmire. And then I
- 12:59Speaker 3: wish I had been on the panel asking hegseeth the
- 13:03Speaker 3: question where is at what point is a quagmire? Tell
- 13:09Speaker 3: me when a quagmire occurs, and what do you if
- 13:13Speaker 3: it reference to Afghanistan an Iraq? The quagmire is years
- 13:19Speaker 3: away if you want to compare the two. Therefore defending
- 13:25Speaker 3: any kind of military action because we're not in a quagmire.
- 13:31Speaker 3: The other issue that's going on is munitions are really reduced.
- 13:36Speaker 3: I mean the United States has gone through a lot
- 13:38Speaker 3: of munitions, a lot of missiles, a.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Lot of shells used.
- 13:44Speaker 3: And the problem is you got a drone that is
- 13:48Speaker 3: entering the airspace let's say entering Kuwait or entering Oman
- 13:55Speaker 3: and they have American bases there and they are a
- 14:00Speaker 3: to shoot down drones. Drones cost thirty five thousand dollars
- 14:04Speaker 3: to manufacture. A missile costs four million dollars. You have
- 14:10Speaker 3: other missiles that cost a million dollars. You have fighters
- 14:15Speaker 3: that unload their missiles at hundreds of thousands of dollars each.
- 14:20Speaker 2: It isn't close.
- 14:22Speaker 3: And Iran, which has now been obliterated because there's no
- 14:27Speaker 3: military left in Iran, And why do you need a ceasefire.
- 14:31Speaker 3: But we've wiped out the military, as President Trump said
- 14:35Speaker 3: day one, we wiped out their military and their ability
- 14:39Speaker 3: to fight. And we've taken out their navy, which is true,
- 14:44Speaker 3: and taken out a lot of their missing l the
- 14:47Speaker 3: launching systems, which is true. However, we're talking maybe forty
- 14:54Speaker 3: percent or sixty percent has been removed. The military experts
- 14:58Speaker 3: are telling us they're still plenty. There are still plenty
- 15:01Speaker 3: of drones, still plenty of missiles that Iran has and
- 15:06Speaker 3: can unload them, and plenty of small ships that can
- 15:09Speaker 3: mine the Strait. Iran has control of the straight or Romus.
- 15:15Speaker 3: We have gone from an international uh, international path right.
- 15:22Speaker 3: We've gone from literally allowing or they have gone from
- 15:26Speaker 3: allowing ships from any country to go through the strait.
- 15:30Speaker 3: And that's from the Persian Gulf into the Arabian Sea
- 15:33Speaker 3: that then turns then delivers oil to refineries all over
- 15:39Speaker 3: the world or all over the Middle East. We've gone
- 15:42Speaker 3: from that where it is an international Uh, what's what
- 15:49Speaker 3: I'm working for on that? An international pathway where no
- 15:54Speaker 3: tolls were charged to now Iran once they opened this
- 16:00Speaker 3: right and part of their negotiation is going to be
- 16:03Speaker 3: we want a toll for every single ship other than
- 16:07Speaker 3: the ships that, of course are allied.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Russian ships are not going to be charged because Russia
- 16:12Speaker 2: is an ally of Iran.
- 16:15Speaker 3: But the rest western world two million dollars a ship
- 16:19Speaker 3: per tanker.
- 16:20Speaker 2: If you want to get through, it's tough. It is tough.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Okay, Let's move over to Disneyland. And this is where
- 16:31Speaker 3: Amy and Neil jump in. Disneyland is cracking down on guests.
- 16:36Speaker 3: There are new restrictions and those are causing backlashes.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Let's deal with that, the two of you. When we
- 16:44Speaker 2: come back.
- 16:45Speaker 4: You're listening to bill Handle on demand from KFI AM
- 16:49Speaker 4: six forty.
- 16:51Speaker 3: KFI AM six forty Bill Handle here, good morning.
- 16:56Speaker 2: It is a foody Friday.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Ask handle anything Friday, May one May day? Okay, something
- 17:04Speaker 3: new happening at Disneyland. And of course Amy and Neil,
- 17:08Speaker 3: who are are Disneyland experts. And just a quick story.
- 17:12Speaker 3: I went with Amy a couple of mondays ago. I
- 17:14Speaker 3: was her guests, and I had not gone in probably
- 17:17Speaker 3: thirty years, and at the time of my life just
- 17:21Speaker 3: enjoyed myself. But then I'm never I never said that
- 17:24Speaker 3: Disneyland is not fun. I just bitched about the price
- 17:28Speaker 3: and the lines, so you know, we lived with it
- 17:31Speaker 3: and the rides and everything was terrific.
- 17:33Speaker 5: And there's a great little video on Instagram of it,
- 17:36Speaker 5: so you can see your return to Disneyland. It's a
- 17:39Speaker 5: lot of fun.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I had a good time. Okay.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Now I was on a ride and that's a Web
- 17:45Speaker 3: Slinger where it's probably the most interactive ride in the
- 17:49Speaker 3: park where you're moving in these cars and in front
- 17:53Speaker 3: of you are I guess holographic. It's like a video game, right,
- 18:00Speaker 3: where you have bad guys and good guys and you're
- 18:02Speaker 3: supposed to kill the bad guys and you're wearing yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 3: and it's it's you're it's a game. It's a video game,
- 18:10Speaker 3: but interactive and you're part of it. And the what
- 18:13Speaker 3: you do is you have your spidy web uh, and
- 18:18Speaker 3: you're with your hands and you go pow pow, and
- 18:21Speaker 3: then you sort of just throw your hands in front
- 18:24Speaker 3: of you and aim for the bad guys.
- 18:27Speaker 5: Like Spider Man does when he throws out his arm
- 18:30Speaker 5: and the web comes out. You simulate that.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Right, Thank you for explaining that. Uh. And what ends
- 18:36Speaker 2: up happening is then in.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Your car, uh, the number of successful attacks that you
- 18:44Speaker 3: have made, the number of bad guys you have killed
- 18:47Speaker 3: show up in front of you on this screen and
- 18:50Speaker 3: gives you the numbers how you did. And the people
- 18:55Speaker 3: that I was with did pretty well, did pretty well.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Not bad? Were you on that ride with me?
- 19:02Speaker 3: Amy?
- 19:03Speaker 5: I was on the ride, but in a different car.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Okay, I'm trying to remember. Anyway, I did worse than
- 19:09Speaker 3: anybody else, because.
- 19:11Speaker 5: I did worse than anybody else in my car.
- 19:13Speaker 3: But here's what I did, because instead of flipping my
- 19:17Speaker 3: fingers and pointing to the bad guys and having my
- 19:21Speaker 3: spidy web hit them, I did jazz hands. Yeah, and
- 19:26Speaker 3: just it was just enjoyable. I didn't hit anybody, that's right.
- 19:30Speaker 3: I did sort of jazz hands and did a dance
- 19:33Speaker 3: move where you know, I take my hand and I
- 19:35Speaker 3: circle each arm and I go the other way. And
- 19:40Speaker 3: I didn't do well. I did not do well, but
- 19:42Speaker 3: I had the time of my life. But I'll tell
- 19:45Speaker 3: you what did happen if you remember on this, Amy,
- 19:48Speaker 3: the ride stopped twice and we had to sit there
- 19:54Speaker 3: for several minutes twice, okay, And then there was I
- 19:58Speaker 3: guess it happens so often because because there is a
- 20:00Speaker 3: recording where you have this lovely voice that says, we
- 20:05Speaker 3: only have stopped for a few minutes.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Everything is fine, relaxed.
- 20:10Speaker 3: See if I did that, if I was in charge
- 20:13Speaker 3: of that voice, So what do you think I would say?
- 20:16Speaker 3: You're going to die, don't get out of the car.
- 20:19Speaker 3: You're probably going to be electrocuted. And that is entertainment
- 20:23Speaker 3: with a capital E. So the point is, and now
- 20:27Speaker 3: we're going to get to the point of the story,
- 20:30Speaker 3: and that is why did the ride stop.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Was it a technical issue?
- 20:38Speaker 3: Probably not, because Disney had Disneyland has technology and they
- 20:42Speaker 3: know what they're doing. It is that either someone threw
- 20:47Speaker 3: something or dropped something in their sensors all over the place,
- 20:52Speaker 3: or they threw their arms in the air or had
- 20:56Speaker 3: a cell phone that dropped in. Any interference with the
- 21:02Speaker 3: ride just shuts it down cold. And they're dealing with
- 21:07Speaker 3: that or trying to deal with that. And for example,
- 21:11Speaker 3: on the Incredit Coaster, one of the best roller coasters,
- 21:16Speaker 3: I mean it's a serious roller coaster, I mean a
- 21:18Speaker 3: no joke roller coaster, they were really fanatic about if
- 21:23Speaker 3: you have a phone, put it in your pocket. If
- 21:26Speaker 3: you have a bag of any kind, put it at
- 21:28Speaker 3: the floor of your car, Do not show it, do
- 21:33Speaker 3: not bring it out, do not take pictures, do not
- 21:36Speaker 3: put your hands in the air, do none of that.
- 21:39Speaker 3: And they are fanatic about that, and they check every
- 21:43Speaker 3: single cars, not just the seat belts which they check
- 21:47Speaker 3: or the barrier.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I mean, they really go crazy with that.
- 21:51Speaker 3: And why is that. Well, first of all, there's fraud
- 21:56Speaker 3: that's going on. We're going to talk about that in
- 21:58Speaker 3: a minute, because I really don't get the front. And
- 22:01Speaker 3: second of all, there is this code of conduct targeting
- 22:06Speaker 3: a surge and ride disruptions. Are people getting more obnoxious?
- 22:10Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 22:10Speaker 3: Probably. There are more cell phones out there. There are
- 22:14Speaker 3: these selfie sticks because everybody takes selfies. Now, Disneyland, why
- 22:20Speaker 3: these have been banned?
- 22:21Speaker 2: You can't have them in it.
- 22:22Speaker 4: I think gimbals are now banned too. But the truth
- 22:26Speaker 4: is people do not self regulate anymore. They do whatever
- 22:31Speaker 4: they want, dian them whatever they want to do, and
- 22:35Speaker 4: they you know, use flash on cameras when they're not
- 22:39Speaker 4: supposed to do, and they stand on rides and they
- 22:42Speaker 4: do stupid things, and they're you know, they have to
- 22:45Speaker 4: keep adapting to everybody's comfort. You know, these huge thermoses
- 22:52Speaker 4: that they're bringing to drink water all day and all
- 22:55Speaker 4: these things. It's just it's getting too much.
- 22:59Speaker 2: We's thee I were and I'm trying to remember.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Originally it was e O and it was Michael Jackson
- 23:04Speaker 3: Ryde and that was the roller coaster that you're in.
- 23:06Speaker 5: The dark Space Mountain.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Theater okay.
- 23:14Speaker 3: And this was the ride where you sit in that
- 23:16Speaker 3: roller coaster and US Mountain okay, and you thank you.
- 23:20Speaker 3: You have absolutely no idea where you're going, and it
- 23:25Speaker 3: is I find that scarier than even riding a much
- 23:29Speaker 3: more sophisticated, faster roller coaster with tighter turns.
- 23:33Speaker 4: You should be a side player on your show. It's similar.
- 23:38Speaker 4: You're in the dark, you don't know where it's going. Excellent,
- 23:41Speaker 4: you're holding on for the whole ride.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Yeah, it was those That ride really scares me because
- 23:47Speaker 3: all that goes through my mind is what there What
- 23:49Speaker 3: if there is an earthquake and I go flying off
- 23:53Speaker 3: the track and I have no idea. I want to
- 23:56Speaker 3: see where I'm going to die for some reason, I
- 24:00Speaker 3: want to have eyeballs on death. And I mean clearly,
- 24:03Speaker 3: I mean there's never been an issue. No one has
- 24:06Speaker 3: ever died or been heard on that ride. I don't think, Okay,
- 24:10Speaker 3: we're done with that. New security at Disneyland.
- 24:15Speaker 5: New security at Disneyland.
- 24:17Speaker 3: Yeah, and new security. They really are getting into your bags.
- 24:21Speaker 5: They've been doing that for a while.
- 24:24Speaker 3: And then the facial recognition business is happening now as
- 24:27Speaker 3: opposed to the photographs. I mean, it's getting it's getting
- 24:30Speaker 3: tighter and tighter. And then that's they're going to ask
- 24:33Speaker 3: what do you think of Mickey? You had better say
- 24:35Speaker 3: I love Mickey. It's almost like immigration coming in. It's
- 24:39Speaker 3: almost like the immigration officer asking you the questions that
- 24:43Speaker 3: you have to answer appropriately when you ask for asylum.
- 24:48Speaker 3: It's almost to that point you better come up with
- 24:51Speaker 3: the right answers or you're not getting in the park.
- 24:55Speaker 3: For example, what do you think of knots Erry Farm?
- 24:58Speaker 3: I hate it. It is, It's horrible. You'd better have
- 25:02Speaker 3: the right answer, all right. Coming back, let me tell
- 25:04Speaker 3: you what Walmart is doing, a very Unwalmart thing, and
- 25:08Speaker 3: we'll dive into that day. By am six forty Bill
- 25:12Speaker 3: handle here on a Friday morning, May first, some of
- 25:16Speaker 3: the big stories we're looking at. Congress voted to reopen
- 25:19Speaker 3: parts of the Department of Homeland Security, including tsa heretofore
- 25:24Speaker 3: it was.
- 25:24Speaker 2: A seventy six day Wow.
- 25:28Speaker 3: You know that was a stoppage of Yeah, it wasn't
- 25:33Speaker 3: funded various departments, and now everything is funded except ice
- 25:39Speaker 3: and border patrol. The Republicans caved. Okay, you go into
- 25:44Speaker 3: a high end department store. You going to Niemen's for example, right,
- 25:48Speaker 3: or Nordstrom. Do you even have a norths from anymore
- 25:50Speaker 3: Southern California? I don't know, because I never shop at
- 25:53Speaker 3: those department stores. But they when you go in there,
- 25:57Speaker 3: right near the front anywhere near one of the exits,
- 26:02Speaker 3: you have the makeup and you have the perfume department,
- 26:08Speaker 3: and there is generally someone there who can help women.
- 26:12Speaker 3: As always women do their makeup, sit in the chair,
- 26:16Speaker 3: and you have this makeup artist who helps someone knows
- 26:20Speaker 3: what they're doing and helps you look the best. And
- 26:23Speaker 3: these are the high end department stores, and they have always,
- 26:28Speaker 3: of course young ladies there who are incredibly good looking.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I think that is a requirement. You cannot be ugly,
- 26:36Speaker 3: you have to be very good looking. Well, those are
- 26:39Speaker 3: the high end stores. Walmart, who you would think would
- 26:43Speaker 3: never do that, is starting to do that. They're starting
- 26:49Speaker 3: to put those makeup people to help women customers do
- 26:55Speaker 3: their makeup. Let's put some foundation on, or maybe you
- 26:59Speaker 3: want to change your lips so you'll look better.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Now.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Again, those are incredibly good looking. And I don't want
- 27:05Speaker 3: to sound like a misogynist or a sexist, but they're
- 27:09Speaker 3: very good looking young ladies. Whereas Walmart greeters you have
- 27:15Speaker 3: to be ugly, you have to pass the ugly tests
- 27:17Speaker 3: to be a greeter, and here it's the other way.
- 27:21Speaker 2: And what makes this story so interesting.
- 27:24Speaker 3: Is Walmart, the king or queen of the discount change,
- 27:30Speaker 3: is moving in that direction. Makeup and scared and care
- 27:33Speaker 3: products now have in store advisors offering personalized tips and recommendations.
- 27:39Speaker 3: I always thought that they these people, these women were
- 27:43Speaker 3: paid for by the various products you know you're paying.
- 27:47Speaker 3: They're being paid for by the big names in makeup
- 27:51Speaker 3: and in perfumes.
- 27:52Speaker 2: They're not.
- 27:53Speaker 3: They're actually paid for by the store. And Walmart's doing
- 27:58Speaker 3: the same thing. They are hiring and right now they're
- 28:02Speaker 3: breaking out of the no frills service model staffing the
- 28:06Speaker 3: beauty aisles with these quote train specialists, yeah, train specialists.
- 28:11Speaker 3: I think the academy that these women go through last
- 28:15Speaker 3: for four hours and they're trying twenty two stores in
- 28:19Speaker 3: Arkansas and in Texas.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Do women wear makeup in Arkansas and Texas? What do
- 28:26Speaker 2: they do do?
- 28:27Speaker 3: For example, to make your skin smoother? Do they put
- 28:31Speaker 3: bacon grease on your face? Use that as a hand lotion.
- 28:39Speaker 3: I don't even know how that works. But these beauty
- 28:44Speaker 3: experts are being brought in. Target seems to have them,
- 28:49Speaker 3: Sephora and the department stores. Of course, it had him forever.
- 28:52Speaker 3: The market for US beauty and personal care is one
- 28:56Speaker 3: hundred and twenty nine billion dollars, and Walmart is missing
- 29:00Speaker 3: on the high end stuff, a lot of bear Greece
- 29:05Speaker 3: in Arkansas, in Tennessee. You're looking at me like it
- 29:09Speaker 3: doesn't happen, Neil.
- 29:11Speaker 4: I just think Walmart's an interesting place because well, like
- 29:14Speaker 4: if I go to a Walmart, I'm the skinny guy.
- 29:18Speaker 4: So it seems like it just seems like there's some
- 29:22Speaker 4: other areas they may want to work on before they
- 29:24Speaker 4: get to the old what do they call it?
- 29:27Speaker 2: Walmart is very it's very regional. It's very regional.
- 29:30Speaker 3: I remember going to a Walmart and maybe it was
- 29:34Speaker 3: a Costco, and it's it's all regional. So they I
- 29:38Speaker 3: went through Jacksonville, Florida, and stopped off at a Walmart.
- 29:43Speaker 2: And imagine this.
- 29:45Speaker 3: There were five gallon jars of pigs knuckles, pigs feet,
- 29:52Speaker 3: and they had built a mountain of them as a display,
- 29:57Speaker 3: almost floor to ceiling. It looked like a pyramid of
- 30:01Speaker 3: five gallon jars of pigs feet. So I came back.
- 30:06Speaker 3: I spent two days in Jacksonville and drove back along
- 30:10Speaker 3: the same road, stopped at the same walmart. There was
- 30:12Speaker 3: not one left, not one jar left of pigs feet. Now,
- 30:19Speaker 3: how many jars of pigs feet you think you would
- 30:22Speaker 3: get at your local Walmart here in southern California.
- 30:28Speaker 4: I don't know, but they're rare. They are only four
- 30:30Speaker 4: per pig, so a lot of pigs to get that.
- 30:34Speaker 4: A lot of pigs out there, for sure. And also
- 30:38Speaker 4: it depended the on Costco also, just for fun, is
- 30:41Speaker 4: very regional too. You go to the costco in Alaska,
- 30:44Speaker 4: literally you get moose meat. You can get some stuff
- 30:48Speaker 4: that you can't even begin to get here, and you have.
- 30:52Speaker 4: And I go to a costco near here that has
- 30:54Speaker 4: a large Asian population because I live near an Asian neighborhood,
- 31:00Speaker 4: that you can buy rice in hundred pound bags and
- 31:06Speaker 4: they have you look at them, and they have fifteen
- 31:09Speaker 4: different brands of rice in these huge bags, almost lining
- 31:14Speaker 4: up an entire row. Do that in a Hispanic neighborhood.
- 31:19Speaker 4: By the way, hot tip. I was at the Holy
- 31:22Speaker 4: Land yesterday aka Costco and the short rib lasagna.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Very strong, very short, very strong, right.
- 31:37Speaker 3: And also as you notice that the people that work
- 31:39Speaker 3: at Costco are getting older, and there was oh, there
- 31:44Speaker 3: was one lady. I go into the lane of the
- 31:49Speaker 3: self help lane because that goes much quicker than standing
- 31:53Speaker 3: in line. And what they'll do is they bring out
- 31:56Speaker 3: their little scanners. They can I scan this for you,
- 31:59Speaker 3: and they start. The woman in this case started scanning
- 32:02Speaker 3: did not speak English for starters. And as she sat
- 32:07Speaker 3: there and scanned all of my goods and it wasn't
- 32:10Speaker 3: very much. I had six items, fifteen people walked past
- 32:14Speaker 3: me and I almost kicked her. I go, come on,
- 32:19Speaker 3: but she was slowing you down, yeah, ridiculously.
- 32:23Speaker 2: She was slowing me down.
- 32:24Speaker 3: Yeah, And I would scream at her, but I didn't
- 32:26Speaker 3: speak whatever language she spoke. Okay, we're done, coming up
- 32:31Speaker 3: Footy Friday with Neil Savedra right here.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I am sixty.
- 32:37Speaker 1: You've been listening to the Bill Handle Show. Catch My
