- Lucas: Velkommen tilbake, Luna. Ready for another Norwegian adventure? Luna: I am so ready. Last episode we talked about working, and I've been practicing 'jeg jobber' all week. Lucas: That's great. And today we're going to learn a verb that's all about being there for someone. 'Å hjelpe'. Luna: Å hjelpe. That sounds nice. What does it mean? Lucas: It means 'to help'. And it's a really useful verb. Let's start with the base form: 'å hjelpe'. Luna: Å hjelpe. Å hjelpe. To help. I like that. Lucas: Now, if you want to say 'I help', you say 'jeg hjelper'. Luna: Jeg hjelper. So 'jeg' is I, and 'hjelper' is help? Lucas: Exactly. Jeg hjelper. Let's use it in a sentence. 'Jeg hjelper deg' means 'I help you'. Luna: Jeg hjelper deg. I help you. That's a good one. Lucas: Now, a super common phrase is 'trenger du hjelp?' which means 'do you need help?'. Luna: Trenger du hjelp? Do you need help? That's so useful. Let me try: Trenger du hjelp? Lucas: Perfect. You've got it. And if you need to ask for help, you say 'kan du hjelpe meg?' – can you help me? Luna: Kan du hjelpe meg? Can you help me? Oh, that's going to be my new go-to. Kan du hjelpe meg? Lucas: And a quick, direct way to call for help is 'hjelp meg' – help me. Luna: Hjelp meg. Like if I'm carrying too many grocery bags. Lucas: Exactly. Hjelp meg, jeg har for mange poser. That means 'help me, I have too many bags'. Luna: Hjelp meg, jeg har for mange poser. I'm going to use that one a lot. Lucas: Let's put them all together. We have 'å hjelpe', 'jeg hjelper', 'trenger du hjelp?', 'kan du hjelpe meg?', and 'hjelp meg'. Luna: Okay, let me say them all. Å hjelpe. Jeg hjelper. Trenger du hjelp? Kan du hjelpe meg? Hjelp meg. Lucas: That was perfect. You're a natural. Now, imagine you're at a train station and someone looks lost. What could you say? Luna: Trenger du hjelp? Lucas: Yes. And if they say they need help, you could say 'jeg hjelper deg'. Luna: Jeg hjelper deg. So I help you. That's a beautiful phrase. Lucas: It is. And if you're the one who needs help, you just say 'kan du hjelpe meg?'. Luna: I feel like I can handle almost any situation now. Lucas: And that's the beauty of 'å hjelpe'. It shows kindness. Speaking of kindness, if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Norwegian, you know what would be amazing? If you could help us keep this show going.
