- 0:00OK, guys, so why is autism and sex a taboo thing to think
- 0:03about, right? And a couple of months ago,
- 0:06actually about a year or so ago, I did a conference.
- 0:09It was autism or neurodiversity and relationships and sex.
- 0:13It was really interesting, but I wanted to talk about it here
- 0:15right now because we're seeing a lot of influx in this type of
- 0:18area to question these types of taboos with shows like Love on
- 0:23the Spectrum and you know, down for love and other types of
- 0:27things. So let's get into it right now.
- 0:29What's going on guys? My name is Dan.
- 0:30I have autism and ADHD and I make weekly videos like this.
- 0:33So if you're new around here and you want to learn more, I'm
- 0:35about to hit the subscribe button by clicking the
- 0:36notification bell down below. OK, so I know that most of you
- 0:39guys watching out there are women, right?
- 0:41And so I just wanted to let you in on something awesome.
- 0:44There's a giveaway that a blesser and I are doing and
- 0:49literally everybody who signs up to my giveaway with Blesser will

- 0:55the way. Basically, you're not blessed,

- 0:59Wellness toys and company for sexual Wellness, and they create
- 1:04toys and all kinds of stuff. Now I'm going to show you why I

- 1:22But now this is the whisper bullet.
- 1:27This one is the whisper rabbit, and this is a whisper vibe.
- 1:31Now why do why is this important?
- 1:33Why is this important for autism?
- 1:34Well, look, we all have needs, wants and desires, and we all
- 1:37also need to keep our sexual health.
- 1:39Well, now this is the world's first silent vibrate alignment.

- 1:59And you can barely do that. I don't.
- 2:01You can barely hear that. The thing is on.
- 2:02You can barely hear it. Why is this important for
- 2:04autistic people? Autistic women may actually have
- 2:08sensory aversions, are not able to use toys because the toys
- 2:11make so much noise, which is so interesting.
- 2:14These pack a serious punch by all accounts from people who
- 2:19have tried these out. And they sent me this to give
- 2:21them a giveaway because I know most of my audience are women.
- 2:23So I thought, hey, why don't we give back to the community in a
- 2:25way which is going to be fun and sensory pleasing for you guys

- 2:53it does a little bit, but no one can hear it.
- 2:56And it's kind of cool because you're going to love it.

- 3:59OK guys, let's go on with the video OK guys autism and sex.
- 4:03Why is it such a taboo? Why do people not want to talk
- 4:06about it? I think it comes from the fact
- 4:07that autism is a spectrum, right?
- 4:10So it has levels, you know, you've got like somebody who can
- 4:12maybe, you know, can't go to the bathroom on their own, see
- 4:14somebody who can go out, get a job and do grocery shopping on
- 4:17their own. And there's people everywhere in
- 4:19between. Now, why is it that sex is
- 4:23taboo? Well, the first thing is sex is
- 4:25always taboo. And the word taboo guys means
- 4:27something that is typically not spoken about because of a maybe
- 4:33a conservative idea, a conservative being like a, oh,
- 4:36we don't talk about that. It's a bit rude or crude, right?
- 4:38So taboo means that. And sometimes we talk about
- 4:41things being taboo when actually, in fact, they're not
- 4:44taboo. But when we think about autism
- 4:46and sex, we instantly think disability and sex or disabled
- 4:50people and sex. And we don't want to always
- 4:54think about that. Why?
- 4:55I think for a few reasons. One, it makes people really
- 4:58awkward to think about disabled people actually having, you
- 5:01know, loving relationships and making love when we're all
- 5:04human, a binary process. The reason we're here is to
- 5:07procreate, to carry on the lineage of our DNA and our
- 5:10survival of the group, right. So we all have to have sex to
- 5:13create offspring and the offspring we all came from
- 5:15product of sex. And I feel like a lot of people
- 5:17don't want to talk about it because they feel like it's
- 5:19crass or it's crude or it's like, you know, oh, it's it's a
- 5:22bit weird because sex is normalized in every other
- 5:25culture. I mean, we see it on TV, we see
- 5:27it, we hear on the radio, we read it in magazines, you know,
- 5:30the whole industry about this. And that's fine.
- 5:34But when you, you know, encroach on the idea of autistic
- 5:39individuals having sex or wanting to have sex, it becomes
- 5:42an ethical kind of moral, you know, ignorance.
- 5:46And so when we look at shows like Love on the Spectrum, and
- 5:48lots of my friends are on the show, by the way, so big shout
- 5:51out to all my friends on Love on the Spectrum, Australia and USA.
- 5:55What we find is that it's all fun and games.
- 5:58You know, they're dating and I was going to laugh.
- 6:00And then when does it gets more serious?
- 6:01Like these people may want to date longer or they're talking
- 6:04about having children or if they're talking about making
- 6:06love or if they're even just making out.
- 6:08It becomes a thing people will kind of get.
- 6:10You know, the viewership drops and the talk of it is all about
- 6:16that. It's about how that person
- 6:17interacted with the idea of sex or sexual health or sexual
- 6:20relationships. And what's weird about it to me
- 6:23is like, why is that any different?
- 6:24I don't see anybody else talking about, you know, oh, how weird
- 6:29is it? They're talking about sex on any
- 6:30of the show. If you watch any of the reality
- 6:31show, I mean, heck, guys, there's reality shows Make Love
- 6:35Island too hot to handle. You know, these Netflix shows
- 6:39are designed are built specifically to encourage people
- 6:42to get into it and potentially have sex.
- 6:45But when it becomes a reality show that involves people on the
- 6:47autism spectrum, it becomes a bit weird, right?
- 6:50But why is that? And I think a lot of it comes
- 6:52from the fact that we don't talk about it enough.
- 6:55We don't we we're not there yet as a society, as a whole, as a
- 6:58group, We don't talk about it. But why?
- 7:01I don't know. And I think that we should we
- 7:03should encourage the conversation.
- 7:05I think talking about sex is a healthy adult thing to do,
- 7:08obviously. I mean, you know, if you're
- 7:09younger than the legal age of intercourse, then obviously
- 7:14those conversations need to happen, you know, with
- 7:17professionals to understand what would, you know, what is your
- 7:20future like for that type of stuff, You know, like your
- 7:22guidance counsellors or teachers or sexual education classes.
- 7:26But then once you're an adult of legal aid, then it's those
- 7:29explorative times and you'll understand those things.
- 7:31And there's nothing wrong with that, right?
- 7:33As long as it's all legal and everyone's, you know, happy and
- 7:36consensual, it's OK. Now, when we think about it as
- 7:38well, we also think that sometimes people may take
- 7:40advantage of disabled people in terms of sex.
- 7:44And although this can happen and people are disgusting and those
- 7:48things can happen and people can be victims of those things,
- 7:50they're not the most of the idea of sex and autism or idea of sex
- 7:55and disabilities. That's not what happens to
- 7:57those. What happens the most is you
- 7:58have disabled people marrying other people getting together
- 8:01and having a good time. Now I want to know what your
- 8:04thoughts are on it. Do you believe that there's too
- 8:06much taboo around it or do you think that it's OK?
- 8:08Do you think that people understand about autism and sex
- 8:12and think that it's OK? I'd like to not drop in a
- 8:15comment down below. Let's open the discussion and
- 8:17give it to your thumbs up if you'd like to see more videos
- 8:19like this one.
