- 0:00SPEAKER_00: An egg McMuffin, it is quite the international parade, if you think about it.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: English muffin, Canadian bacon, American cheese, and a Yugoslavian egg.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, cage-free Yugoslavian egg.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: We don't know where that chicken came from.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: He was Roman.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Everything else got a title.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I don't get it.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: I will be there as well.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I will have my girls in tow, so we're gonna be running around a little bit.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: What do we say it?
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Egg McMarkin.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I don't think I can miss an egg McMarkin.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: It's the PNW podcast.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: My name is Drew Tiedeman.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Here with Marcus Bridges.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Uh, we had to do a little duck preview.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I had Burger Boy John on, but now we're back at home with Marcus uh here.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: And now, uh, Marcus, I don't know if you got a chance to see it, but Burger Boy John, the guy we had on, he is a big burger influencer in the Eugene area.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: So you should follow along with him and you can uh you can put yourself darn near cardiac arrest like me with a couple extra burgers.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I actually uh after I saw the interview, I went ahead and gave him a follow.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Uh it's funny stuff, man.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: He's he's a good dude.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: He seems like a really nice guy, and uh giving, you know, some honest shakedown of the burger uh situation down here in uh the the South Willamette Valley.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: And uh I'm I'm in, man.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: He's already he's tried a couple down here that I've looked at and been like, I should go try a burger at that place.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: And now I have even more motivation too because I've actually seen it on camera.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: So, you know, uh, whenever you get to see something like that, you can at least sort of expect what you're gonna get.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: And uh he's doing a great job with all of his content, man.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's a good guy.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: And uh also Aaron Fentris from the Oregonian, and Oregon Live came on, previewed some of the duck stuff.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, he really has high hopes for Oregon this year, which of course we get to kick off the action this weekend.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: But uh just a reminder, real quick, we are at the Stafford Hills Club right here in the suites where work meets play.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: And even though the rains have arrived, they're kind of on and off and on and off.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: It's still a great place to be where it's nice and dry inside.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: But I was looking out there at the pool and the saltwater grill where Burger Boy John could come and try the burger there and probably come highly rated.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Check him out, staffordhills.com.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Tell him Drew sent you for half off your initiation.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: We got a pack show here, Marcus, as some things that are affecting the Northwest and the, I guess, the epicenter of Oregon here in the Portland area.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Um, and of course, a little bit of screen time for Marcus with an Oregon Ducks commercial that we're going to get into here in a little bit.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: But I don't where I would like to start is what everybody's talking about, and that is Tiger Woods.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Now, recently, of course, we know he got in another car accident.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: He just loves flipping cars.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: That guy loves to drive out of control, go around people, have a pocket full of pharmaceuticals, and just do Tiger.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, the guy can drive on a golf course.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: A guy cannot drive on a road.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: It's just the way it is for that guy.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: But um, he had pled not guilty and even called the president from the side of the road when he was arrested for DUI or DWI.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: You can split hairs on that if you'd like.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Um, but Marcus, everything changed today for Tiger, didn't it?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it did, man.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: And uh, I had almost thought, Drew, that this had gone away because this accident happened over five months ago, and we hadn't really heard anything.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: And I look, I know the legal process takes time, but I'll be honest with you, even as a Tiger fan, I kind of thought, man, I bet that call to the president pulled some strings, and we're just not going to hear anything else about this.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: So I was a bit surprised to see this news come out.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Because the president can pardon whoever he wants.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Now, a DUI pardon feels pretty murky for me.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, no, and there's some greasy pardons throughout time, not just this president, all presidents do it.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: But uh, this one would be a little strange if it's like, and a presidential pardon for Tiger, drive safely.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Um because I know I'm not alone, Marcus, when I say, how was he still driving?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Not just the license.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: The license should have been taken away a long time ago.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, but when you're a powerful person, you're able to kind of round the edges on your mistakes.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: But how does a man who has I don't know the exact net worth, we could look it up, but I don't really care.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Guy has next to a billion dollars.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: He should never, ever, ever, ever, ever worry about driving or waiting on an Uber.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: I think that he liked the power of being able to drive the car and uh he clearly likes to drive it like a dickhead, but he also, dude, the guy he's not good at it.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: No, and he's not good at judging when he's had too many farmies.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And, you know, this isn't the end of it for Tiger because, you know, as of today, that license is suspended for five years, right?
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Is that the final lockdown?
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Well, believe it or not, it could have been suspended for 10 years, but the judge actually gave him a little bit of grace and let both five-year suspensions that these penalties carry um run concurrently.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: So it will only be a five-year suspension for him, but he was staring down the barrel of a decade without a license, Drew.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: And again, as as a guy that was a fan of Tiger growing up, rightfully so, right?
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: You can't mess around with driving under the influence, whether it's alcohol or pharmaceuticals or or you know, insert drug here.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: And uh something to your point there, the power, I worry for Tiger that what we're dealing with here is the reason he's off on his own driving himself is because he's out either doing or procuring things that he doesn't want other people to know about.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: And we've seen it over years and years and years doing what we do, uh, whether it be celebrities, athletes, even friends, uh, when they struggle with addiction, a lot of times they try to kind of pull the wool over everybody's eyes.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: And without making an excuse for Tiger here, this I I could see as his reasoning because it hasn't been good for him for a while.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: The golf is pretty much gone.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, he's the only time you see him in the media anymore is when he's done something like this, or his wife caught him cheating and she's hit him with a golf club.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's there hasn't been good news for Tiger for a really long time, and that scares me because I don't want to see somebody succumb to addiction.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: And in this case, you're you already said it.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: He was driving around with pills in his pocket.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: That's what they found because he took a breathalyzer test, Drew, and it came back negative.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: He's fine.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: He doesn't have any booze on him, but they found pills in his pocket, and then they kind of expanded the sobriety test, and he refused to take a urine test.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Which, you know, it's everybody's right to do that.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: It's your right to say I'm not taking your sobriety test.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: I know in Oregon, you know, there's an officer's judgment that goes along with this.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: You could blow 0.0, you could pass the sobriety test, and they can still take you in for suspicion of DUI.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: So I understand why a person would refuse.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Um, but given the recent news that we've heard about Tiger, I'm thinking he refused because he knew what that test was going to look like.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, a couple of things.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: First of all, he had spinal fusion surgery.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's a he's in chronic pain management.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: He has a he actually has a medical quote unquote right to take the medicine.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Do I think he got a little of the Michael Jackson and the Prince treatment where you got doctors who never say no and they write you whatever number you want?
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: I also know that um doctors don't always have to say straight up yes.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: They can say, okay, well, maybe we'll give you a lower dosage of this pain medicine.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: When he had the pills in his pocket, I think he had four Vicodin in his pocket.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: If you look up the medication, because they said the exact medication he had, they were four double Vicodin in his pocket.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it was the number of pills is four, but when each one is a double, now you've got yourself in a bit of a predicament.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Now that being said, with being in chronic pain management, he has the right to hire a driver and be forthcoming that he needs his medicine.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: But if you're taking that amount of if you have that much in your pocket and you are afraid to take the UA, that means you have already taken some today.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: You've got another eight total, if we're doing the full math, in your pocket.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: So you're already, you're juiced every single day.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: You're over the legal limit to drive every morning when you eat that at breakfast.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: If you're like, oh, I'm in pain and you take a bunch of pain meds, you're no longer allowed to drive your vehicle for the rest of the day.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: That's that's the rule.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: And so nobody, nobody fits the bill more than he does to have a driver.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Driving Miss Daisy style, you have that person be your closest confidant.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: If you want to be a piece, Marcus, this is what I would do.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: I would sign that guy to a non-disclosure, a confidential agreement with all the Tiger Woods firepower behind it, that they could never say anything about anything, about who gets in the car, about what we take, about what condition I'm in.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: And I know that sounds terrible, but are you thinking for one second that that isn't happening all over the place?
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Where like P.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Diddy didn't drive, but do you think his driver was allowed by legal contract to go and tell what he was actually doing?
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely not.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: They would have sued him into the ground and then probably put him in the ground, knowing that group of people, uh, Drew.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: And and here's the deal with with athletes and celebrities, we see this all the time.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: We've all watched Entourage.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: We know that it's uh built around a true story.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: It's not the true story, but a lot of these guys pay their friends to drive them.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: They say, listen, you don't have a gig.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: You and I are tight.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: I make 17 million a year, you're my driver.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: I'm paying you 90 grand a year.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: You just need to get me from point A to point B whenever I ask at my behest.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: And then you've got that relationship with that guy where you know he's not gonna rat you out, he's not gonna give you up, and he's also not gonna talk about where you're going and what you're doing when you're there.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: This happens all the time with high-profile people.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: And, you know, with the kind of money we're talking about, the Tigers got send him to evasive driving school, send him to self-defense school, send him to learn how to carry legally and fire a weapon to protect you, turn him into a pseudo-security person, and you check so many boxes with that, including no DUIs.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: So there's plenty of ways to to crack this nut, Drew.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: And Tiger didn't try any of them.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: He just cracked a bottle of pills and took off.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: And it we should note, I've had uh you know, heavy painkillers prescribed to me for various surgeries and such.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: You I know have as well.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: What does every single one of those pill bottles say on the side of it?
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Do not drive, do not operate heavy machinery, do not do anything.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Don't walk out on the sidewalk and take your dog for a walk if you can't stand up and just kind of be present for a couple of minutes.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Like there's a lot of warnings.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: So this didn't have to happen, and I think happened so many times.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Now this is a pattern of behavior.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: You kind of have to look at the license suspensions and say, Yeah, I'm surprised it wasn't taken away for good forever, because a lot of repeated offenders like this don't ever get their license back.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Let's look back all the way back to you mentioned when Elon caught him cheating.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: At the time she didn't know it was with like 30 chicks, but uh when she swings down on him with the golf club, he drives away and crashes it immediately.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: And then the second time where he nearly lost his leg, oh, he crashed that one heavily and almost died.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: And then this one, he manages to flip this car as well.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: So it's not like these are marginal issues.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: And you know, the first time he was able to kind of whisk it away and it's a marital thing, and every oh, it's Tiger Woods, and nobody even did anything about it.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: But you or me, if we're if we're on our third offense and we flipped a car with a pocket full of farmies, we're not getting a license back.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: No, it's the end of it.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: I I know people who are never ever gonna drive again and they have to get an Uber.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Tiger just needs to find a driver.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: What are you doing?
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: It reminds me of what I used to hear from my dad at a young age all the time, Drew.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Driving is a privilege.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: It's not a right.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: And if you enjoy it like I do, I love driving.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: It's I road trips don't bother me.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: You know that about me.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: I'll jump in a rig and drive seven, eight hours, stop once along the way.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: I enjoy the act of driving, I always have, um, which is why I protect my privilege as as best as I can by not making stupid decisions like this.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, again, I just I really hope that things don't get worse for Tiger before they get better because, you know, I'm I'm sitting less than five feet from a commemorative box of golf balls from his '99 uh Pebble Beach uh run that he had.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: I'm I was a big fan of Tiger, and this has been really sad to see in these late years.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: It has, and it's it's a product of being so famous.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's kind of got the Elvis Presley thing going on where he's he's almost a prisoner in his own golden palace over there, Marcus.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: And by being so, you know, the pharmaceuticals are his best friend.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, you can't when you've done this this many times, even a call to the president isn't gonna bail you out.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: And I when I look into his eyes, he looks lonely, he looks sad.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: You know, at one point the guy was living on top of the world in Las Vegas with all these girls and gambling and God knows what substances, because he already had his farmies in his pocket.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: So he was living this trajectory which is just unobtainable and unret retainable as well.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: And even for Tiger Woods, you can't stay up in the party for that long.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And and I think that it just kind of bit him on the backside.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: And now, I mean, you were showing me pictures of him during the DUI.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: He looks like trash.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Dude, he does not look good.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: And I've I will say this: I've never seen whatever field sobriety test they're doing to the guy.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: He's leaned up against the hood of a cop car with kind of his butt on the hood and his legs are kind of out at a 45, propped him up, and he's got both hands fist to fist with his the top of his hands pointing up and his fists on top of one another, pointing at his chest, and he's got his eyes closed and he's like clenching his face.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: I I said to you when I showed you the picture, it looks like he's on Game of Thrones.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: He's been stabbed in the heart and he's accepting his fate.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: I've never seen a sobriety test like this before, but you're right.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: That's not the Tiger Woods that we've seen as fans growing up.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: That is a different man, and another reason I'm so concerned about you know how things are going in the six inches between his ears, Drew.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and everybody's like, is he coming back to golf?
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Where we get more golf.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: And any other sport, we don't talk to a man his age about that.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: No.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: You let them go and hang out at Club Med or something.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Let's stop worrying about golf and start worrying about the human.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Because personally, I think if Tiger Woods doesn't have a trajectory change, he's gonna be a statistic that we read about.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and here, let me uh give some advice.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: I've never been in a position before to give Tiger Woods advice on life, but I think I can tell you this.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: If you want to learn how to handle your substances and still get on and do the things that you like, go spend some time with John Daly.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: That guy's never taken a break from any of the substances that he likes, and things are going fine for him.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: He's barefoot golfing in a Hawaiian shirt in Florida every week, and he's doing it on YouTube for crying out loud.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, just a little tact, a little, a little thought here uh before you get behind the wheel of a car next time, Tiger.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: But we shouldn't have to have that conversation for five plus years, Drew.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: You know that Tiger Woods himself has said that John Daly's natural ability is so good that if he had the work ethic of Tiger, he would have been the greatest of all time.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Yep, but his work ethic is in instead is uh where's the first T and what's the course record with a lit cigarette in his mouth.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: And you gotta love it.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: And how cold are the beverages, really?
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: All right, we're gonna take a quick break.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: We're gonna come back with a closure that's going to shake up Portland for over a month and Marcus's run on a commercial for the Oregon Ducks or an Oregon Ducks situation.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: We'll break it all down in a minute.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: This episode brought to you by Motorsport Hillsboro, your one-stop shop for everything when it comes to dirt bikes, street bikes, side-by-sides, e-assist, mountain bikes, and so much more.

- 18:04SPEAKER_00: He takes care of his people too.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: Uh, tell them Drew sent you for 10% off your first purchase and also$500 off a water heater if you need one of those.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: And as we head into the fall months, it's gonna be needed for you to get on board and maybe stay warm in the shower unless you're ready for a cold plunge every single time you get in there.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Uh so hit them up today, axiompdx.com.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: And of course, the Stafford Hills Club, these are my people, voted the number one health and wellness facility in the Portland area, and you've got to come down and see them.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: They got everything you need from workout facilities to the saltwater pool and classes, classes, classes, classes with the best instructors.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: And just the community here is next level.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: I talk about it all the time, but I truly love it and they care about the people who walk in this door.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: If you want to be a part of it, Staffordhills.com.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: Tell them Drew sent you for half off your initiation.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: So it's about to be Shacob City in the Portland area.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: And as if it isn't tough enough to get through that whole downtown, and even when you cross over to the east side, that's really where you hit that I-Fi bottleneck uh coming in or coming out of the city.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: And the people who live up in the Vancouver area uh constantly ripping their hair out for saving a couple of thousand dollars on their homes when they bought in Vancouver, trying to commute in and out of the city.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, something that is was very enticing at one point.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: And then I drive it one time and I'm like, I just can't.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: I can't.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's about to get worse, Marcus.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: An I-5 closure is coming.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: And did I read this right?
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: Are we talking about five weeks?
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Uh five weeks, man, starting September 11th.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: And there will be some real never forget vibes about this one, I guarantee it.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: 10 p.m.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Friday, September 11th.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Estimated five weeks of major repairs.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: And you know as well as I do, living in this state.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: It was estimated that Highway 20 over to the coast was only going to take a couple of years, and it's been going for long enough to have graduated high school and gotten a degree at this point in time.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: So who knows how long these things are going to last?
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: I would hope that they don't keep it for more than five weeks because we're talking about a crucial stretch of I-5 here as far as the daily commute for Portlanders is concerned.
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: So when people are looking at the exact area, it's over by the Moda Center, correct?
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's uh I-5 southbound between 405 and 84.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: So basically, that stretch, if you know I've done it before, you got to get from 405 and you want to go get on 84.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: You're gonna have to find a different way to do it because you are not gonna be able to take that stretch of I-5 that kind of connects those two.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: So uh, but this is only the southbound lane.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: So if you want to go from one to the other, you can get there.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: You just can't get back.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Well, I love how you can go, you're just not allowed to come back.
- 20:59unknown: Yeah, exactly.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: And it's and it's super tough.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: So, like if you're if you're looking at the overall like game plan, right?
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: If you're coming from Vancouver and you want to go south of Portland or downtown Portland, it won't be so bad, even though it's going to be more congested going around than it ever has been before.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: But just like you said, trying to get to the Interstate 84 and to go all the way down or into northeast Portland over there is going to be a nightmare because it's all old school thin roads through there.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: There is no super highway that goes through northeast like that.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, you have bigger roads, but those roads all have stoplights on them.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: And it's some of them are one way.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: You're going to be dealing with a whole thing coming and going there.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: Now, I saw that the city is trying to they're attempting to pass a thing right now that'll allow every city worker to go and have free bus rides during the five week period.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: Something uh and City and state, I think all government employees, but they will also this is going to cost a half a million dollars to get them a bus pass, which is funny to me.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: We're we're all fighting and yelling and screaming about the Motor Center, but uh w we can just shove a half a million dollars for bus passes underneath the counter and not be too worried about it.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Look, I mean, I think it's great that if if they can offer that to the government employees, then more power to them.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: But uh again, it's like, where are we taking that money from?
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Is that just already in the coffers?
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Because maybe that conversation that we've been having about the Moda Center uh doesn't seem quite as dire if we've got an extra half million just laying around.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Uh, but another thing that concerns me about this thing, Drew, is they're wanting to divert traffic to uh regional traffic to I-205.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Now, when I drive back home to the northeast corner of the state to see my parents in in Little Enterprise Oregon, I go I-5 north from Eugene, right there at like uh the Wilsonville area.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: I cut off on 205 and I meet up with Interstate 84 all the way out in Troutdale.
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: It skips that whole area that we're talking about right now, keeps you from having to dive right down into the depths of Portland.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: But for God's sakes, have you been on 205 in the last couple of years?
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: It's Orange Cones from where I get off on I-5 to where I pull up on 84 in Troutdale and has been for years.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: There hasn't been in the last five trips I've taken across the state, whether it's rush hour, middle of the night, winter, summer, I have pulled on to 205 and come to a dead stop within two miles of getting off of I-5, and it's happened every time.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: I can't imagine what congestion is going to look like on 205 when this five weeks hits on September 11th.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: Because when we have like a one day or a, you know, it's it's closed till 6 a.m., it still is a bit of a problem even trying to get it going at five weeks.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: Now, maybe people will find their workflow and they'll find a way to get from point A to point B.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: But for me, if I was working on either end of that, I'm going to work at a crazy early time.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: I'm begging to work off hours so that I can leave early and be out of there on time, or maybe shift it the other way, get in late, exit late, because people are going to spend just an obnoxious number of hours sitting in their vehicle, which is a great time to catch up on the PNW podcast.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: Lots of episodes there for you.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: And I'm just going to do a shameless plug.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: Brand new websites for both this podcast, the PNW podcast.com.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: Uh also PNW podcast, the Pacific Northwest Podcast.com.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: All of those, you can just go there and you can catch up on every episode right there on the front page of it, which is pretty awesome, Marcus.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: And of course, my other one, Fit for Radio, is also there.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: You can catch up.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: But right now, for the sake of this show, uh, everything that we've done lives for you right there on the cover.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: And so if you're stuck uh grinding your gears, then we got you covered with uh plenty of stuff to do while you wait.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you, I'm worried about the carpal tunnel at your house because if you're the one that put those websites together, uh I know the amount of work that goes into it, and I hope that you're doing wrist strengthening exercises because it's a lot of point and click.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: And for me, it was just endless frustration, and I just gave up.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: But uh, I'm really glad that you're the guy in charge of it because wouldn't be there if you put me in charge of it.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: Now, I'm not gonna lie to you, I actually had a bit of a golden pony um come along, and that is I had an intern who actually has come on the Fit for Radio podcast, Parsa, my intern from the University of Oregon.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: He's gonna be a senior.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Uh, his internship just finished, and I had like an emotional goodbye with my boy.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, but he also helped me rebuild both websites and then gave me uh basically the blueprint on how to do it myself, which is daunting.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, uh, I don't know what's going on.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: He's like, I knew that that would happen, and so I wrote you an entire playbook.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: He wrote me an he wrote me a website playbook, Marcus.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: What a deal.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Which I can share with you because it's like next level stuff uh that really makes uh a couple of ding-dongs like us look smart.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: Well, hats off to that guy, man.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: Sounds like that was a heck of an internship.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he just asked me, he's like, hey, would you mind writing me a positive review or a review?
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: He didn't ask for positive on my LinkedIn.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I would write your name in the sky.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: What are you talking about, dude?
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: I would banner you up at an Audsen Stadium duck game.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: So uh he was a great, he is a great guy.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: He was a great addition to the team, but I'm not taking all the credit for that.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: He came and uh followed throw huge on that.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: Check it out today, the PNW podcast.com.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: Uh speaking of the ducks, you may see banners in the sky.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: I can't afford any of them.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, but you may see Marcus when you're at the duck game this weekend.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Uh not in the crowd, because you'll find me there as well, but maybe even up on the jumbotron.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Um, and I'm a little bummed because just the timing didn't work out for me to be able to get in on this with Marcus, but he pulled the trigger and got it done.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: And tell us what is going on and why we might see you on the Jumbotron.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: Well, uh, you know, Drew, it was real, just kind of a chance thing.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: I I have a buddy in my band and he's a filmmaker, and he uh got in touch with me last week and said, Hey, you're a tailgate guy, right?
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: And and I I'll give my guitar player the credit he deserves.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: Fantastic filmmaker, does not do anything with sports.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: So he kind of knew that I did this because he's heard me say it, but he didn't know to the extent that I take tailgating very seriously.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: And of course, you know that you were a part of that for many years.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: And I said, Yeah, I'm I'm the guy.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: He gave me a number and I ended up getting uh in contact with the producer that was making a commercial for Benchmade Knives that was a crossover with the Oregon Ducks uh because Benchmade is sponsoring the tailgate area or some part of the tailgate area at Audson Stadium this year.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, nice.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: So uh on Sunday I went down to Audson at about 9 a.m.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Uh we filmed a bunch of stuff with Evan Stewart in full gear running out of the tunnel, fog machines, the whole getup, probably me and another 20 to 25 extras, um, did a bunch of scenes from right there at Audson, which was really cool, Drew, because I got to walk down the tunnel.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: I got to see the just do it banner.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: And uh Evan Stewart said something when he crossed under it the first time.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: He reached up and tapped it.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: And the producer said, Hey, do you wanna do you wanna tap that when you walk through in the shot?
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: And he goes, I have to.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: And he looked at him like, Do you not know that this is just like that's gospel?
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: That's that's saying your prayers at night right there.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: And uh, but really cool.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: We we didn't get to take any pictures or anything with him.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: We were all instructed, leave the talent be.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Um, but we got to be the extras and and get right up in the camera.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: And then the second half of the commercial, they kind of took us out into the parking lot and set up a pseudo-tailgate.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: And they were grilling and they had drinks and they had snacks, and albeit they didn't have a lot of shade.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: I was horrifically sunburnt by the end of it because I think I was outside on Sunday, which was a very nice day in Eugene for I don't know, five, six hours, just kind of chasing shade around.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: Um, but really cool thing, they I was kind of bummed because at first they wanted me to be the grill master.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: I'm talking to the producer and he goes, I think you're gonna be like the only extra.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: There's no lines, but you're gonna be the featured guy because you've got all this experience cooking at a tailgate.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: We're gonna bring a grill, we're gonna bring a steak, we're gonna have you grill it.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: And then just at the at the 11th hour, I get a text that says, Hey, turns out Benchmade brought their own guy for the grill master.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: And Drew, I I'll be honest with you.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: First of all, this is a this is a good looking dude, right?
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: I get it.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: I I look at my face every day in a camera, staring back at me, and I understand why I wouldn't be choice one or ten or even fifteen, but I was the guy because I had the experience.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: They got this six foot four dude who's just chiseled out a stone, who looks like he should be on the field stretching his quads, not out at the tailgate with the rest of us plebs.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, but he was the grill master, and at one point in time I looked at some of the other extras.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: We were out there just tailgating having a good time, and it's like, I don't know about you guys, but I like my my tailgate chef to have a little bit more spare tire around the middle.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: And they're like, Yeah, he's he's very statuesque.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: He's got the quads and the calves.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Like, good looking dude.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a great commercial.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: They did a good job, cooked us up a steak and everything.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: So uh yeah, a lot of fun.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: I asked them, hey, where's this gonna air?
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Because of course my mom wants to know.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Um, I want to know.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: And they said, mostly socials and the jumbotron is all they said.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: So if you look up and you see the benchmade logo and Evan Stewart on the screen, look around for me.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: I'll have the black Dante Moore jersey on with the very same white hat that I'm wearing right now, and of course the trademark Oakley's that everybody that's known me for the last 20 years will know I will be wearing.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: So uh give your boy a wave up there if you see him on the big screen.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: I I don't know what it's gonna be like, Drew.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: I've had my face blown up uh for you know posters and things like that before.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: I've never seen it on a screen that size, and I'm slightly terrified.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a serious screen, and I was bummed that I couldn't be there because you did invite me to go as well, and it would have been a fun experience.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: But we were at the coast, and my kids were like, I want to stay and I want to go swimming, dad.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Can't say no to that.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: Can't say no to that.
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: And it was the end of summer, the whole deal, and so um I will remind them because they'll be at Odson with me this weekend if they're like, oh, Marcus is in the commercial, that's so cool.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: I'll be like, Yeah, it's really cool.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: It's so cool that I was gonna do it.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: But I'm I'm glad that you're in it, and I'm I'm glad that it's gonna air during the game so I get a chance to check it out.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: It is a big weekend.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: Um now, are you gonna be doing the back to grill master uh for this one?
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: You got you got people coming to town.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: What do you what's your plan?
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: We do.
- 32:14SPEAKER_01: We'll be out there at 7 a.m.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: uh as early as they'll let us in, and I'll be making uh egg McMarkvin's for everybody.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: Uh that's my own brand of the egg McMuffin.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: I kick the Canadian bacon and I I use real American thick-cut Kirkland bacon on them.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: So uh I hope that you and the ladies will come see us because you know I got one with your name on it.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: And I I love the name you've thrown on that thing.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: You know, because an egg McMuffin, it is quite the international parade if you think about it.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: English muffin, Canadian bacon, American cheese, and a Yugoslavian egg.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, cage-free Yugoslavian egg, right?
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: We don't know where that chicken came from.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: He was free, he was Roman.
- 32:54unknown: Yeah.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, everything else got a title.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: I don't get it.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I I will be there as well.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: I will have my girls in tow, so we're gonna be running around a little bit, but uh an egg McMart, what do we say it?
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: Egg McMarkfin.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: I don't think I can miss an egg McMarkin.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: So that's that sounds incredible.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: Um and yeah, I'm hoping we can put the screws to Boise State.
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: When I had Aaron Fentress on, he thinks it's gonna be a much different operation than the last time two years ago, where it came down to a final field goal.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: But I will say that was my girls' uh my two oldest girls' first game they ever went to.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: And actually, Millie was strapped to Amy's chest with ear, like headphones on for that game.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: And it was so it went so late that it was, I think it was like 11 something at night, and we had to walk home.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: And my girls were still so juiced.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: And I mean, I was hitting them with like Swedish fish to keep them going.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: And you know, you need a Sour Patch kid.
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: Uh, but they were having so much fun um that I was like, these these girls are ducks, they're dialed in.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: And um, I'm really excited.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: My nephew just is starting an internship, and I don't know if I told you this.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: My nep, my oldest nephew on on my side of the family landed an internship with Oregon football.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: Um, so he's gonna be uh doing video work with them this year.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: Don't expect to see any footage because uh when he went there for a tryout, they made him erase everything upon leaving.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: But he got the job and he did it all on his own.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: So I'm very proud of that young man.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: And um, I I do wish that I could show him what the tailgate experience is like in the Egg McMarkin.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Um, but he's gonna experience a game unlike we ever did.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be it's gonna be really cool for him to be down on the field and maybe he can get me some game-worn shoes.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: There you go, man.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: A glove, an armband.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: Even if it smells like a foot, I don't care.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: Just give it to me so I can add it to the collection.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: Well, uh, thanks for joining me, Marcus.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: We will be back on Monday with me and that beautiful beard you see on your screen on YouTube, where we will uh break down the first week.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: We'll also talk beeves, huskies, cougs, how all of them uh were able to fend in week one, and we'll get a kind of an idea of what the landscape is, who's the juggernaut, who's coming for who, and are the Oregon Ducks exactly what everyone thinks they are and in the window to win a national championship this year.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: Go Ducks, and uh, welcome to football season, Marcus.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Can't wait to see you this weekend, buddy.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: Cheers.
